Midnight Thought on the Ithaca Saga (spoilers)

When Athena is hoping for a kinder world, I like how Odysseus doesn’t shoot her down (I think he had his fill of that with the suitors, ha ha ha), but just says it won’t be in his life. Why? Because he’s not saying it’s impossible, just that that kind of change takes more time and sacrifice than he can give. And that actually reminded me of something: in the Bible, King David wanted to build a temple to God, but God said no because of all the blood on his hands- David was a king during wartime, he is not meant to lead Israel in peace. But his son, Solomon? He would be the peacetime king, he built the temple, and coincidentally was also known for his wisdom (and his 700 concubines, but that’s irrelevant here).

Basically- TELEMACHUS AND ATHENA WORKING TO MAKE THE WORLD BETTER!!!

[I don’t really think Jorge was using the David-Solomon thing as inspiration or a reference, I just thought it was a cool similarity- especially the wisdom part, which I only realized while writing this. ]

Telemachus wants to “bring the world some light,” and she accepted his friendship rather than just a mentor-mentee relationship, showing that she’s opening her arms. Together, they can make a greater tomorrow that she couldn’t do with Odysseus. His part in the war was important, but there’s still work to be done, work Telemachus is very eager to accomplish.

He was also just coming back from a “diplomatic mission,” which shows more of that open arms mindset, something even the more innocent version of Odysseus didn’t really do! (I know in the actual Odyssey he went in search of his dad, but I don’t think that’s the same case here since there was no mention of a plan to do that on his end, plus Jorge had to change how Odysseus actually made it back to the island to fit his story.) Diplomacy is a lot about alliances and making peace, not about outsmarting/outmaneuvering enemies. It still requires wisdom and intelligence, but the world is not changed for the better by swords alone.

Odysseus’ story required him to embrace ruthlessness, but because of that, his son Telemachus doesn’t have to.

And I am so PSYCHED for the new wisdom duo. GO MAKE A GREATER TOMORROW!!!

This MEANS soo much too mee , coz the only thing that bothered me ( before the livestream) was that , DID ODY FIND OUT THAT ATHENA FOUGHT FOR HIM ???? LIKE SHE HEARD HIS CALL !!!! AND SHE TOOK A LIGHTNING BOLT TO THE FACE FOR YOU TO GET YOU HOME !!!! I mean of course he's the warrior of the mind he will figure out , BUT THERE WAS NO MENTION OF ITT!!!!

BUT THIS SCENE GIVES ME EVERYTHING THAT I COULD EVER WANT !!! Coz he gets to SEE WHAT ATHENA DID FOR HIM !! EVEN THOUGH SHE IS IMMORTAL AND DIFFERENT FROM HIM, HE DID HAVE AN IMPACT ON HER ( A LITERAL SCAR TO PROVE THAT ) !!

Absolutely love how Athena and Telemachus tie into the theme conflict of “Ruthlessness” vs “Open arms”

Athena was a variation of Ruthlessness for most of the musical. She believes in the slaughter and pushed Odysseus to do the same. And then she meets Telemachus. It would’ve been so easy for Athena to try and stamp the Open Arms out of Telemachus, both for her character and as a writing point. The narrative could’ve dedicated itself to Ruthlessness here. But it didn’t. Athena doesn’t. She starts listening and genuinely considers the idea. Maybe the world could be fine if we had Open Arms.

Then in the reunion with Odysseus, Athena poses the same question to her old pupil. Could we be fine? Could the world be kind? Odysseus can’t have that answer for her. He’s just a man, and he’s already changed so much. He can’t make that world for her, and he has a life he wants to live. A life that doesn’t need Open Arms, not for him or his Spartan wife. But he admits that world could exist. Somewhere beyond him. It could.

And there leaves Telemachus. The open question. The suitors take advantage of his kindness, but he wasn’t shown throwing away the idea of Open Arms. Maybe he still believes in it. Maybe Athena could maybe a kinder world with him as her next student. Maybe Athena could train hundreds of students on the idea of Open Arms.

The musical began with listening and ended with love.

Okay so after 1 day processing (lies i processed nothing) and listening to " will you fall in love with me again " on repeat

I have thoughts A LOT OF THEM

I loveeee how Penelope's RAGE is showcased in the song and especially in the livestream ( @gigizetz you absolutely GOAT ) , because it's her husband in front of her after 20 goddamn years and he has the GAL to say if you knew the things (i absolutely love the background showing all the animatics of the things he has done and how he has changed ) I have done (not blaming ody here he has a totally vaild perspective) , could she bring herself to love him again, and SHE IS PISSED , but she knows he husband very well so instead of shouting, she asks him for a simple favour, to move the wedding bed (and i love how it's adapted from the Odyssey, Penelope instead of proving herself that's her husband, proves ody that he's still her husband) , and ody is pissed( bro brings out the electric guitar and all 💀) and is like how could you ask me to do that , it's a symbol of everlasting love , and PENELOPE is like WELL ONLY MY HUSBAND KNEW THAT SO I GET THAT MAKES HIM YOU (you can hear the rage in her voice, ask stupid questions get stupid answers ), and ody is shooketh , his falabers are gasted , and then we get "I will fall in love with you , Over and over again, I don’t care how, where, or when, No matter how long it’s been
