Day 10 & 11 of Countdown To Working With The Ancestors 101. If you are interested in learning to work with spirits of the dead and ancestors, then check out my new class on working with the ancestors 101.
Today's post is about my great grandparents, on my paternal fathers side.
My great grandparents were born in Ireland. My great grandfather's name was Patrick McNeeley. He was born in 1894, and both of his parents died before he was 20 yrs old. I don't know where he was from in Ireland, but I do know that he and my great grandmother were together before coming to America and got married in ohio.
My great grandmother's name was Ella Theresa Treacy. She was born in Clogh, Cappalusk District, Galway county, Ireland, in 1894. When I look back at some of the records, I am confused because they say she was the head of household, but it also says married, not widowed or divorced? There are so many mysteries looking into my family's past. I did find something interesting when going through records from my family in Ireland. Apparently, close to where some of my family is from, there was a famous pirate queen named Grace O'Malley. The more I learn about my ancestors and my past, the more I grow. This statement is not true for everyone. Not everyone feels this way. Some people have a disconnect to their family and ancestry, and that's OK.
As I post these small descriptions of my family, I feel the power growing between me and them and their assistance in helping me with my daily life.

Reposted from @niafitalianamerican The Italians Who Built America: Vincent Lombardi Legendary NFL Coach Vincent Lombardi was born in 1913, in Brooklyn. Lombardi’s parents both emigrated from Salerno to the U.S. Early on in life, Lombardi and his siblings faced intense discrimination, outside of their neighborhood, due to their Italian background. Church was a large part of family life growing up, with Sundays reserved for attending Mass, followed by a lengthy dinner amongst family and friends afterward. In 1933, Lombardi accepted a football scholarship to play for the Fordham University Rams. After graduating from Fordham in 1937, the Great Depression led to few if any career paths for Lombardi. He would accept an assistant coaching job in 1939 at St. Cecilia High School in New Jersey and also become a teacher at the school. Lombardi would take over as head coach of the school in 1942, leading the school to become one of the top football teams in the nation. In 1948, Lombardi took an assistant coaching job with West Point’s football team that would serve as the major influence on his coaching style. An assisting coaching job with the New York Giants would follow, but it was his time with the Green Bay Packers that would cement Lombardi’s name forever as the greatest football coach in NFL history. Taking on a dismal looking Packers team that lacked motivation, Lombardi exhibited his famous never quit attitude and leadership to lead them to five NFL Championships and the first two Super Bowl Championships. After passing away in 1970 from cancer, in 1971 the Super Bowl trophy was presented from there on out as the Vincent Lombardi Trophy. Aside from the trophy, his name lives on in the memorable quotes he has left on motivation, work ethic and life for countless generations to come. #TheItaliansWhoBuiltAmerica #ItalianAmericanHeritageMonth #Italian #ItalianAmerican #Italy #Italia #ItalianAmericanPride #America #NIAF #ItalianImmigrants #ItalianPride #ItalianHeritageMonth #Lombardi #SuperBowl #NFL #Sports #ItalianPride #ItalianAmerican #NeverQuit #VinceLombardi #LombardiTrophy https://www.instagram.com/p/CVk0L_Fl76V/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Feast of San Gennaro Little Italy 🇮🇹 New York City USA September 19th 2020 Photo iPhone XS Max Saint Januarius is famous for the miracle of the annual liquefaction of his blood, which, according to legend, was saved by a woman called Eusebia just after the saint's death. Thousands of people assemble to witness this event in Naples Cathedral three times a year: September 19 (Saint Januarius's Day, commemorating his martyrdom), December 16 (celebrating his patronage of Naples and its archdiocese), and the Saturday before the first Sunday of May (commemorating the reunification of his relics) Januarius (Gennaro) was thrown to wild animals in the Flavian Amphitheater at Pozzuoli–some say bears, others say lions–and that the animals refused to eat the holy men. Another legend says he was thrown into a fiery furnace and emerged unharmed. In the end, St Januarius and his companions were publicly beheaded. His blood was saved by a woman called Eusebia In the Eastern Church, it is celebrated on April 21st 2020 The flag of Italy (Italian: Bandiera d'Italia), often referred to in Italian as il Tricolore (Italian: [il trikoˈloːre]); is a tricolour featuring three equally sized vertical pales of green, white and red, with the green at the hoist side. This my grandfather in his happy place, the backyard. He arrived from Italy in 1911, joining his father and older brother. He was a laborer, eventually finding a job as a box car repairman on the Pennsylvania Railroad. He bought this house in the 1930’s, and lived in it for over 50 years. He died there too. He was hard working, strong and to most people a man of few words. He spoke to me a lot though. He was a good man. #grandfather #grandpa #italianimmigrant #brokenenglish #filmphotography #1980 https://www.instagram.com/p/CD6bf1IHLK5/?igshid=iqghfw8pocf4

Meet the Riboli Family of @sanantoniowinery.  The Winners of the 2018 American Winery of the Year. . . San Antonio Winery was founded in downtown Los Angeles in 1917 by an Italian immigrant and railroad worker named Santo Cambianica. Some 101 years later, it remains a rather limber competitor in the global wine industry. Over the last decade, the Riboli family has planted and expanded its vineyards across California’s Central Coast region to more than 1,000 acres. . . . . #ItalianWine #Wine #ItalianImmigrant #AmericanWine #LA #California #Migrant #WineBusiness #Vineyard #Winery #Acres #CaliforniaWine #WineExportation #WineBlogging #WineBlogger #WineTales #WineStores #WineStories #Wine https://www.instagram.com/p/BsttFkuH_19/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=184nd2yz1prta

Lady Liberty Guiding The Way
Lady Liberty Guiding The Way
It was a cold day in February when the SS Madonna arrived at New York Harbor from the Port of Naples, Sicily.
Sailed from Naples Sicily February 1909
The near month-long journey was coming to an end. Angelina gathered her two daughters and ventured out of the third class to the deck when she heard cheering. Vittoria, then six years, was lifted to set her eyeson the Statue of Liberty.  Others…

This was an interesting story but kind of unsatisfying—and the author acknowledges that, referencing the lack of satisfying conclusion as well as the disappearance of many records that could have filled out the story, such as many of the court records for the cases connected to the Axeman. The strength of this book may not be so much in its telling of the Axeman’s attacks (since many of them may not even have been the work of this particular boogeyman but crimes of opportunity masked by his MO in a time of panic and poor police work) but in its exploration of the cultural environment in New Orleans in particular and the rapidly expanding United States in general. Davis does an excellent job of framing these attacks within the historical context of the time period, delving into immigration, prejudice, corrupt and incompetent police practices—these attacks took place at a time of great change, and while the story of the Axeman was lacking, this look into turn of the century New Orleans was fascinating. 📚🎧 #gsbbooks #gsbreadsmiriamdavis . . . . . . . . . #gasstationburrito #books #bookish #bookworm #booknerd #reading #currentlyreading #whatImreading #bookaholic #booklove #bookquotes #audiobook #whatimlisteningto #libbyapp #goodreads #reading2020 #miriamdavis #axemanofneworleans #neworleans #axemurderer #truecrime #italianimmigrants https://www.instagram.com/p/B9o0xh6hyJU/?igshid=mcrcmus2mgfs

Reposted from @niafitalianamerican The Italians Who Built America: Ken Langone Ken Langone was born in Roslyn Heights, New York to working class parents in a close-knit Italian family. His father earned a living as a plumber and his mother worked as a cook in a school cafeteria. Growing up in a paycheck-to-paycheck home helped instill the value of a dollar in young Ken. As soon as he was old enough, he began picking up odd jobs to support his family. Despite warnings from Ken’s high school principal not to waste money sending Ken to college, the Langones mortgaged their house so that their son could attend Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. To help pay for school, an ambitious Ken worked any job he could get. He graduated from Bucknell in 3.5 years with a BA in Economics. After graduating, Ken found a fulltime job, while attending night classes four nights a week at the NYU Scchol of Business. Today, NYU sponsors a night school program called the “Langone Program” in the Leonard Stern School of Business with curriculum that includes Ken’s business model. Soon after graduation, Ken began his first white-collar job for a Wall Street financial services company. Then in 1978, Ken met with Bernie Marcus for breakfast. Bernie had just lost his job at Handy Dan, a home-improvement chain. That meeting sparked a lightbulb moment. What if Ken and Bernie started their own home improvement company? Along with a third co-founder, Arthur Blank, Ken and Bernie began brainstorming a warehouse-sized store stocked full of discounted goods. It would be a place where the general consumer could buy everything they needed to transform their home. Ken raised enough capital for the venture, and the first two Home Depot stores opened in 1979. Just three years later, Home Depot went public at $12 a share. Today a Home Depot share is worth over $350 and currently employs 400,000 associates at 2,284 stores in the US, Canada and Mexico. #TheItaliansWhoBuiltAmerica #ItalianAmericanHeritageMonth #Italian #ItalianAmerican #Italy #Italia #ItalianAmericanPride #America #NIAF #ItalianImmigrants #ItalianPride #KenLangone #HomeDepot #howdoersgetthingsdone https://www.instagram.com/p/CVSg_j_AabI/?utm_medium=tumblr
