Aquileia
The ancient city of Aquileia was situated near the head of the Adriatic Sea west of the Roman province of Illyria. The strategic location of the city served a crucial role in the expansion of the Roman Republic by serving as a buffer against possible invasions from the Germanic tribes to the north. As a colony with major harbor facilities, Aquileia allowed the Romans to exploit both the neighboring gold mines as well as the region's own rich amber.
To the north of the colony was the independent territory of Noricum. It would become a Roman province in 16 BCE under Roman emperor Augustus (27 BCE to 14 CE). Although Noricum controlled a few minor routes over the Alps, its location south of the Danube and abundant iron and gold reserves were far more valuable to the Republic, allowing trade to emerge between Noricum and northeastern Italy, namely Aquileia. As a buffer and center of trade, the city would eventually become one of the largest and wealthiest cities of the Roman Empire, becoming the capital of Venetia et Istria.
A Gallic Region
Lying to the north and northeast of the Italian peninsula far to the west of Aquileia lay Cisalpine and Transalpine Gaul. During the early and middle Roman Republic, the area was not considered part of Italia, which only extended to the foothills of the Apennines. Cisalpine Gaul comprised the area from the plains of the Po River to the Apennines, while Transalpine Gaul extended beyond the Alps northward. Although sources vary, Cisalpine Gaul was initially the home of the Etruscans; however, Celtic tribes from north of the Alps – the Insubres and Senones among them – gradually moved into the area, and by the end of the 4th century BCE, the Etruscans had been completely forced out – thereby enabling the Celts (Gauls) to make the occasional raid into Italian territory.
Around 390 BCE, the Celts were bold enough to push further south and sack the city of Rome. Tom Holland in his Rubicon wrote that "a barbarian horde had burst without warning across the Alps, sent a Roman army fleeing from it in panic, and swept into Rome" (234). Although sporadic raids continued into the 3rd century BCE, in 225 BCE, Rome was able to defeat the Gallic invaders at Telamon – a city located on the coast of Etruria between Rome and Pisa. Realizing the importance and potential of the region, the Romans went on a three-year campaign, capturing Mediolanum (Milan) in 223 BCE. Further attempts to move northward were foiled by the Carthaginian commander Hannibal in the Second Punic War (218-201 BCE) where many of the Celtic tribes sided with Hannibal. After his defeat, Rome continued their foray into the region, establishing colonies at Cremona and Placentia (Piacenza).

Ok imma make a list of my fave animes and manga from when I was growing up., because I can. And if you are an Italian that grew up in the late 80s/early 90s watching TV, you'll find a crapton of those cartoons that were aired on Bim Bum Bam (so, Italia 1, Canale 5 and Rete 4 lolol) and on the smaller television channels (especially the one from the 80s ).
It's going to be A LONG ONE, probably divided in a couple of reblogs, because I am not kidding you all, I DEVOURED manga and anime when I was a child/teen lolol
As usual, they are in no particular order of preference: I am just writing them down as they come to my mind.
So without further ado, you will find the list beneath the "keep reading" lolol
-LADY OSCAR
When I say that this story shaped me as a person, I am not exaggerating. I always LOVED reading shoujos, but I never felt like I could relate to any of the heroines. I felt like I was never sweet enough, or feminine enough. Then, Oscar François de Jarjayes came along and dear gods, it was EVERYTHING my heart desired. I wanted to be her so badly: brave, strong, just and never afraid to be who I am. This story is my everything.
-X-1999
(the way Seishiro and Subaru's story had me BY THE THROAT even as a teen,I just cannot begin to explain. Gods, it was so twisted, but so SO GOOD. Seishiro and Subaru were just MY EVERYTHING. And do not let me start with Kakyou and Hotaru, my heart was WRENCHED. tbh, it would be fair to say that everything connected to the Sumeragi just grips my heart , especially after reading Tokyo Babylon. Gah, my heart).
-SLAYERS
RINA WAS MY EVERYTHING. Poweful, Sassy, independent, reckless and with a short temper??? like HELLO?? I connected to her so much fml (and child me shipperd her hard with Zelgadis, fml.). The Italian Theme song was just SO BEAUTIFUL, it was one of the many reasons I adored this anime so much.
-ROBIN HOOD
*takes deep breath* ok. I have a lot to unpack on this because I have this CLEAR core memory from when I was still in preschool and was watching this anime at my grandparents' home and I was just lost for Robin. COMPLETELY lost, and while I am known to have a penchant for being rather theatrical, now I am totally serious. fml this cartoon had such a huge influence on me, that I am still feeling it to this day, even in the way I design characters (like, I never realized how much Maid Marian actually resembled Dottie dear gods.)
- MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM WING
I usually do not care much for the Mecha genre tbh, it was never my favourite, but Mobile Suit was one of the few that I actually loved. And this was the Anime that made me go "yes, I love men with long hair fml (Duo, you bastard, I had such a huge crush on you. So yes, I am looking at you) and I love magnificent bastards (Treize I hate that I love you so much)", so I already knew there was no going back lol).
-SAILOR MOON
I talked extensively yesterday about HOW MUCH I love Sailor Moon, but dear gods let me reiterate. Sailor Moon IS my childhood. The amount of time I played pretend in school with my group of friends cannot even start to be counted. Adore. just ADORE.
- CHOBITS
(prepare yourself because you will see A CRAPTON of stuff from Clamp. They were my go to, along Rumiko Takahashi, Naoko Takeuchi and Ai Yazawa).
-CARD CAPTOR SAKURA
(this story was *everything* and i coveted so badly her card deck. like, the amount of time I redrew the card of Fire, Water, Light and Darkness because fml i adore Mokona's style so much, especially the one she had during that period of time).
-TSUBASA RESERVOIR CHRONICLE
(I am still trying to recover from THE HUGE HEADACHE this freaking manga caused me, with all the cross referencing and whatnot, but fml I was *living* for all the characters from Clamp´s previous work being included everywhere. It was amazing, I adored it so much).
-MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH
I WANTED TO BE UMI SO BADLY. SO BADLY. BLUE HAIRED HEROINE, ELEGANT, CONNECTED TO DRAGONS, WITH ONE HECK OF A RAPIER AS SWORD?? WHY YES. YES. And Emeraude, oh gods, the way I loved Emeraude and Zagart's story. Just let me sob in silenceeeee).
- GODCHILD
What can I say about this, aside from the fact that this was my descent into the Visual Gothic Genre?? It had everything! fucked up story-lines (Victorian Gothic literature was filled up with that), the AMAZING pencil of Kaori Yuki, and Cain. ESPECIALLY CAIN.
-DRAGON BALL
(Z/GT, you name it. Mandatory watch with my lil bro, as soon as I got back home followed, of course, by a fight between me and him because we couldn't agree on who was stronger, Vegeta or Goku - and I still stand by my man Vegeta, idc. Also, Freezer's saga lasted FOREVER. A WHOLE SUMMER OF WATCHING IT, AND IT WAS NEVER ENDING.).
- NARUTO
this is THE MANGA. The one that, alongside The Crow caused me and my husband to meet and fall in love. We were both following Shippuuden as it just came out and was airing in Japan, and my hubby had a Sasuke fpf. Aside from this though, I just love Kishimoto's work so much fml.
- LITTLE POLLON
A whole ass anime about the daughter of Apollo, busy trying to prove herself a Goddess and making SO MUCH CHAOS?? My cup of tea as a child (I was probably 4-5 when I watched it) and my own personal gateway to Greek Mythology lololol
-WOLF'S RAIN
DO NOT SPEAK TO ME ABOUT THIS ANIME, I AM STILL CRYING THINKING ABOUT IT, DEAR GODS. THIS ANIME FUCKED ME UP IN SO MANY WAYS, I CANNOT EVEN START TO COUNT THEM. FML. But dear gods, the way I adored it and tickled all my wolf spot in the brain. BEAUTIFUL.
-GALAXY EXPRESS 999
I have the fondest memories of this anime, because I used to watch it with my grandpa who actually happend to be a train conductor. He always made sure to record it on the VHS when he had shifts where he would not be able to be home and watch it with me, so this has anime has so many memories conneced to it. Also, I loved Maetel, she alway looked so elegant to me (infact, I had half an idea of drawing Dottie as her for halloween, but didn't have the time lolol). Hilariously, this anime would subsequently be the one to open the doors for me to Captain Harlock lol.
-INUYASHA
I CANNOT START BLABBERING ABOUT INUYASHA, BECAUSE OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE A 50K ESSAY LONG TO PRESENT HERE. But I remember approaching it after I read Urusei Yatsura and Ranma 1/2 (Rumiko Takahashi is a fucking genius, I will take no other opinion on her. She carried this side of the manga industry on her shoulders alone fml), and I fell SO IN LOVE with the Sengoku Era and with the whole youkai mithos that I just tuned on MTV whenever I could just to watch it fml. Also, this cemented my love for the "Magnificent Bastards with long hair" that Gundam Wing started (am looking at you, Naraku, Sesshomaru and Inu-no-Taisho fml) (also no, I don't want to hear about Yashahime. I love the characters design they had for the children, but as far as I am concerned in regards to the story, that thing never existed for me and will never exist).
-SAINT SEIYA
I CAVALIERI!! I CAVALIERI!! I CAVALIERI DELLO ZODIACOOOOOOOOOOOO!! *ahem, sorry. I had to. The Italian opening by Giorgio Vanni is so fucking catching, it alwys put me in such good mood. I adored Lady Isabel but also wanted her to end up with Nettuno, I just couldn't find a freaking compromise lol. AND FML, my heart belonged to Ikki. He was such a spunky, arrogant son of a bitch, I loved him so much. But truth is that I also ADORED Seiya's Italian VA (Ivo De Palma, fml, you magnificent man).
-YU YU HAKUSHO
This was the beginning of my love for short kings who are also emotionally constipated TO THE MAX and a bit of a bastard. AND YES, HIEI, I AM TALKING ABOUT YOU. I was never a great appreciator of Yusuke tbh, but I always shipped him with Botan because they were just SO ADORABLE together. But I was just much more interested in Kuwabara being all over the moon for Yukina and Hiei having to deal with it lololol that was so much fun.
-FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST
BEST. MANGA. AND. ANIME. EVER. I have YET to see to this day a story AS GOOD as this one. Like, seriously, the amount of research that Hiromu Arakawa did for this anime is something that needs to be praised. Seriously, if you have never seen this, GO NOW AND DO SO. You are missing out on SO MUCH.This manga shaped me as a writer and artist, tbh: it had such profound impact on me on a creative level (also, Maes Hughes is living a long life with his family after he retired from service, had 3 more children, and they are all living in a cottage by the sea fml).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK I FINISHED PART 1 FOR NOW.
Part 2 will come soon lolol

Exclusive, Celestino Vietti: “I want to become like Bagnaia”
The interview to the Piemontese: “My future? On track, maybe in MotoGP, but no hurry. Valentino Rossi? He gives me the energy to win the Moto2 title”
“Look at how young Pecco was... I also was so much younger, I remember already looking at him with the desire to be like him”. In front of the pictures of his past, Celestino Vietti Ramus finds himself in front of a photo from 2013, with Bagnaia in the san Carlo Team Italia leathers.
Near him, two kids, one of them daydreaming of emulating the path of his fellow countryman Pecco: “I won the entrance to the paddock of the Misano GP thanks to a contest: I had to colour the livery of Pecco’s bike. My drawing was terrible...” remembers Celestino today. “I could have never known that a couple of years later I would have joined Bagnaia in the VR46 Riders Academy. He’s always been a model for me, we come from the same province, I took his same route”.
The goal of the twenty years old, today, is completing the work: Vietti is leader of the same Moto2 that Bagnaia won in 2018, with the same Made in Tavullia team, before getting to MotoGP. The big stage, where “Celin” would be able to find himself at ease, him who finds himself comfortable in his Coassolo – holiday destination for people from Turin – like in Tavullia, away from his family that he hasn’t seen in a couple of months. “Maybe this is the longest period I’ve been away from them, but I feel good here too. Who goes away from home young adapts better to places and situations. And it has also been my choice, I’ve been chasing a dream. But home is always home, and I miss my family”.
The World Championship makes you grow up fast, but if you add to it being away from home... “Yes, you grow up. You discover a lot of things, you have to make do: i lived the first period with enthusiasm, because everything was new. Now, when I get back from races, the first thing to do is the washing, and then getting everything in order. I’m a bit the “housewife” (laughs)”.
Are you a tidy person?
“No, and actually in the team me and Niccolò Antonelli compensate each other... but independence is important: you have your experiences, you learn a bit how to manage yourself, you learn how what seemed taken for granted, actually isn’t. And home is always home”.
But now you have your own house, in Tavullia.
“I bought a house, and I know that doing so at twenty isn’t common. I did it thinking and calculating that in the next years I will be here, I will train here. Let’s say, it’s an investment. Moving hasn’t been hard, in the end it’s been just a few meters”.
How is your typical day?
“The most difficult ones are those after travelling back from a race: doing the washing, grocery shopping, maybe going to the business consultant or something like that. And you also train a lot”
Then, how FP results suggest, waking up is always a delicate moment...
“(laughs) Let’s say that in FPs I find myself in bigger difficulties when I’m not immediately okay: I’m still ‘machine-like’, I’m working on it”.
You’re a race animal instead.
“Making a lot of consecutive laps helps me, because lap after lap I can shave a lot of little things working on my riding. During the race you can study your opponents better, that are maybe more explosive during FPs”.
You started with 70 points won from the 75 available in the first three GPs, then you went down. What happened?
“Maybe it comes from my ‘little’ explosivity. And in GPs outside of Europe, everybody goes in a bit blind sighted”.
But emerging when everybody is in blind sighted is a sign of talent.
“Maybe it is”.
Did being the rider to beat condition you or is it a pure mediatic suggestion?
“I don’t feel it a lot, even if I feel more watched and followed. The problem, for me, is dealing with difficult moments knowing I’m leading the Championship. In FPs I often told myself ‘no, I can’t be in this position’. I tend to blame myself when things don’t go well”.
Does Valentino Rossi’s advice remain the same, “always believe in it a bit more”?
“Yes, Vale motivates me. And above all else gives good advice. He watched me from the side track in Portimao, he asks a lot of question in general, he inquires. And then he still trains with us, and he’s always fast”.
Did you imagine being so high up in your second year of Moto2 already?
“No, I was picturing more difficulties. I was expecting the first podium and the first victory, yes, but not in the first attempt in Qatar”
Who’s the first rival for the title?
“Aron Canet, who’s my opposite: he’s super fast from the first lap of the weekend. He hasn’t won yet, but he’s good. Ogura always takes something home. And Chantra surprised me”.
How do you win a world Championship?
“Always getting to the finish line. Thing I didn’t do in Austin, where I also tried to manage a bit. Bad mistake”.
How do you position yourself in from of the new duality between Enea Bastianini and Pecco Bagnaia in MotoGP?
“it’s nice to see italians in front, in Le Mans we saw an exciting battle, unfortunately in didn’t finish under the chequered flag. I’m a bit on Bagnaia’s side, I’ll admit it”
What does he represent for you?
“He’s a great MotoGP rider, I saw him riding and ‘hitting like a blacksmith’ again also on the GP22, and it’s a sight for the eyes. Pecco has always been a model, he brought our territory in the bike world, he won a title, he is in MotoGP on the official Ducati. It’s impossible not to dream about following his steps”
You had another model-rider, in your family.
“My big brother Doriano started riding minibikes, and imagine if I, being much more vivacious than him (to not say something else), would settle for watching him. I’m happy for where he is, with Aprilia in the CIV’s superbike, even if the injury before the championship hasn’t helped him”.
Doriano and Celestino: will you be the third generation in the family business of repairing agricultural machines or will the rider career bring you somewhere else?
“He already works with dad: me and Doriano went to the same mechanic school in Turin. I also would like to carry on dad’s work, my uncles’, my grandpa’s. I admire Doriano because he works during the day and then he trains. It’s hard, he’s told me so, but he doesn’t want to stop. I think of him when I have some problem, maybe a lot of commitments, or I miss home, because I live a life I like, I’m lucky. And when I leave for a GP, I always do it willing, because I know that transforming a passion in your job is not for everyone”.
So you see yourself World Champion and then in the family business?
“That’s the plan, I’d hate to interrupt everything that my family has created”.
How far is MotoGP?
“It depends on how much we grow, and I don’t use the plural casually, because this is a grow path we take all together. With the Team Mooney-VR46 we win and we lose as if we were only one person. Saying all this, I wouldn’t want to make a too rushed transition, I’d like to get some satisfaction in Moto2 and to be ready for the moment of the jump”.
Do the rumours that picture you close to the top class influence you?
“No, I’m able to stay calm. When I hear people talking about certain possibilities, I think about it a bit, but I doesn’t interest me at races. And above all else I don’t change my way of doing things”.
2020 was the year of passing the maturità, 2021 accompanied you to buying a house: what is the big goal of 2022?
“Staying where I am now, until the end”.
Like Bagnaia did, some time ago, another torinese who left home as a teenager to move to Tavullia and carch a dream. Celestino Vietti Ramus has been ready to receive that baton for almost ten years. Since than picture with his role model...

La’eeb: Thanks- what?
Haddaf: Congratulations! Here’s your prize in the container right here!
La’eeb: Yay! (Opens and gets in the container) Wait, why there’s nothing in there?

title: charles leclerc talks about his "red passion" author: roberto croci photographer: joseph degbadjo source: l'officiel series: f1, 2022
Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc talks about his beginnings, his myths - including Ayrton Senna and how he prepares for his races. And what he likes to do in his free time with his lifelong friends.
L'OFFICIEL ITALIA: Who chose to call you Perceval? CHARLES LECLERC: My father, perhaps he imagined his children as the legendary Knights of the Round Table. I have two brothers, the younger Arthur - who has speed in his blood - and Lorenzo, older than me, who always accompanies him to all the races..
LOI: Maybe one day together with Ferrari? CL: It would be a dream, but for now I want him to grow independently, to discover his path, the circuit is a difficult world, so much so that he knows that if he ever needs me I will always be by his side.
LOI: When did you discover your passion for this profession? CL : I was four years old and one day I told my father Hervé that I didn't feel well and I didn't want to go to kindergarten. I don't know why, he believed it and took me with him to the go-kart track of his best friend, Philippe Bianchi. (Father of the pilot Jules Bianchi, who died in 2015 on the Suzuka track, the first pilot to die after Ayrton Senna, nda). When I saw other children running on the track, I asked my father if I could try. For my first car I chose the color red, and after three laps I fell in love with this sport, I couldn't understand the concept of braking. On those tracks I started dreaming of becoming a pilot, then growing up I realized that I could make my dream come true and turn it into a job opportunity.
LOI: Do you ever feel fear? CL: Honestly… I felt scared in 2017 when I thought I could not succeed in becoming a Formula 1 driver. (Leclerc won the GP3 series championship in 2016; FIA Formula 2 in 2017 to debut in F.1 with the Alfa Romeo Sauber the following year, in 2018). Never afraid of speed, the day I'm afraid, I'll stop running immediately, because living in fear is half living.
LOI: Do you remember the first Grand Prix you saw?
CL: I was still a child, I had a friend whose apartment had a balcony overlooking the Monte Carlo circuit. Of course, I always supported red cars, which have always been a special color for me, even though I didn't know Ferrari existed yet. I repeat, I am living my childhood dream.
LOI: Your favorite driver? CL : My idol has always been Ayrton Senna, from what I have been able to see from documentaries and talking to people who knew him, I discovered that he was a special person, not only behind the wheel, perhaps the best in history, but also as a human being. He will always be a legend, and not just for me.
LOI: Give me a list of your favorite team and circuits. CL: Senna for sure, Prost, Niki Lauda, James Hunt, Michael Schumacher and... Hamilton would be fine too. Monaco and Singapore the circuits, precisely because if you make a mistake you pay for it immediately.
LOI: There's been a lot of talk about mental health in sports lately. How do you keep your focus? CL : Even if I run at 300km per hour I'm a human being, I alternate between beautiful moments and difficult moments, I'm not a superhero. To maximize my concentration, even though I've always been good at handling tense moments, I've been doing breathing exercises since I was a boy. They help me stay calm, they're part of the job of achieving a level of focus that helps me maximize my potential. Preparing for the race is 90% of the work, you have to think about everything from strategies to teamwork.
LOI: Since you spend most of your time in a pilot suit, how do you like to dress in your spare time? CL: Even if it doesn't seem like it, I really like fashion, it's a way to express myself without speaking. I have two types of styles, one very streetwear, causal, relaxed but refined, and then the more classic one, complete with jacket and elegant trousers. I'm not very fond of ties and I use them little. I often wear garments from the new Ferrari line, they are aerodynamic and the fabrics are technical but with an air of couture. Plus they have my favorite color, you should know what it is by now.
LOI: When you're not running, what do you do? CL: I'm a normal guy, I spend time with friends. They are Ricardo, Alex, Thomas, Guillaume, Nico, Hugo, and Joris. I'm the hard core of my youth. We go to the beach, to the restaurant, we play soccer, we play sports together because we are all sportsmen, even if it is difficult for me to find free time to spend with them. I do normal things, even if my life remains different because while they study, I live my passion. I love racing, I love Ferrari, I'm lucky.
LOI: Do you play Formula 1 video games? CL: I play with my brothers, it's a lot of fun because normally we never talk about racing together, but we do when we play. During the lockdown, with other riders, we organized challenges on Twitch, because we wanted to entertain our fans who couldn't come and see us racing. It was a tough time for everyone, at the same time I had the opportunity to stop for a moment and live a more normal life with my family.
LOI: Your favorite moment before a race? CL: When I put my helmet on and everyone comes out of the pit lane, at that point I'm alone with my car and it feels good. It's like a nest, I don't feel any sensation, zero tension, I'm completely relaxed waiting for the ride.

"Unsettled" Pt. 5
Serennedy Golden Compass au [Lore][Pt. 1][Pt. 2][Pt.3][Pt.4] ("Speaking aloud" v "Speaking telepathically with daemon")
Leon's Mind, The Past.
Over leftover soup and handkerchiefs sodden with tears, Leon told his side of the story.
The jeering. The Drafts. His Nonna sitting her little Leone down at the table the boys had eaten at and played under countless times with a pencil and a piece of paper and coached him through creating Leon S. Kennedy. A good American boy with only American neighbors who knows nothing of Italia or Sicilia and has never been on a boat bigger than a neighbor’s rowboat.
She taught him to keep his head down and to scuff dirt onto his cheeks to draw attention away from the bridge of his nose that he got from his babbo and to hide the freckles that he got from his mamma.
He became the name they stamped on his paperwork, nothing more than another boy with pale skin and a dog-like daemon.
After bootcamp, they were given shots. These shots were stored in metal briefcases, already in their syringes, and they were put straight into each recruit’s bicep.
Sickness swept the newbies in waves, daemons going transparent or flickering with so much light and energy that the human attached would be left writhing and scrabbling at his chest.
But the ones that survived the shots were able to go further and further away from their daemons, some even able to leave their other half far enough behind that those with sensitive ears didn’t have to find anything to muffle the sounds of battle.
The screams of dying and the silence of loss.
Leon had been one of the lucky ones. He could be separated from his soul and out of sight without crumpling to the ground.
It was what made the Dust Trials snap him up after the war, before he’d even gotten a chance to touch boots back on American soil.
No, they pulled him and ‘Fire’ out of a German ditch, make him write a letter home to tell his ‘Grandma’ that he’s been chosen to serve his country in Intelligence – nothing else, just Intelligence (here, Luis snorted) and was shipped off to a different bootcamp.
More shots, more tests.
At times he felt like he was leaving more and more of himself behind the further they took him from Fiorire and from Nonna.
He never asked what was in those shots, or where they had come from. It was all Intelligence. For the good of Their Country.
Leon S. Kennedy never even drew his gun in Italy. He’d seen Spain from a boat once, during the war.
Then he was put in charge of a special operation. A grizzly Major with an even more grizzled German Shepherd daemon sent him off to parts unknown.
He had fought in the snow, had marched through mountains in February with a full kit and Fiorire on his back.
The island the Research Compound was on was still bleak. Far from humanity, far too quiet.
But he had a job to do, he was to guard the perimeter and make sure all the animals they were testing for Dust-affinity didn’t get loose.
Why he had gone from specops to glorified statue he didn’t know, he didn’t ask. He was just another white boy with a dog daemon, after all.
Then one of the boxes cried during the night.
Fiorire tilted her head at the crate – Leon wouldn’t fit into it even if he crouched, but that noise wasn’t like any animal he’d ever heard.
That night, under the eternal darkness of Arctic winter, Leon S. Kennedy met a little blond girl with a terrified daemon.
Her name was Sherry, and he hadn’t let her tell him the name of her kitten. It was good though, that she had the makings of a feline-type. That independence might keep her alive if she survived whatever it was they were keeping her for.
The sky had thrummed with light, Dust particles pulled down from the aurora itself only to snap back into place when all the lights at the facility went out.
Sherry let out a little moan of fear, tiny tears forming on her young face.
She wasn’t dressed for this weather, was the thing that Leon had noticed then. Of all things.
Fiorire had pressed her side into Sherry, too. To keep her warm as they hid her. Leon could go far away and out of sight without his daemon, after all.
So they hid her until the crates were stacked up to go back to the mainland, and told her to stay very, very quiet and to not let her daemon leave her arms.
And they put her in a crate and they watched that crate go on the boat.
And they watched that boat sail away.
He swore he’d look her up if he ever got back to the States, she looked like she could use a grandma.
Apparently the animals he had been guarding were daemons.
Young ones, with their children kept in cages in big tents.
Sherry was the first they helped escape.
There were many more, but not enough.
People in high places started to notice that the numbers of test subjects didn’t match transfer rosters and they got suspicious.
So they laid a trap and another soldier with a dog far from home fell into it.
“Subject S.”
“Stands for Sicily.”
“Does it?”
Leon shrugged.
But the soldier could be kept further and further away from his soul without the sky snapping back into place.
Each time they tried further, and further, until the soldier swore if he tore off his clothes he would be covered in tiny cuts and his chest would be a mess of scar tissue. He fell asleep sore and woke up terrified.
He could live without seeing his daemon, after all.
“Jesus.”
“And the sun doesn’t set up there. I have no idea how long it’s been since I held her in my arms.”
”I’m here now.”
“I know.”
At least with Subject S. they didn’t have to keep using kids with unruly daemons, so the shipments must have slowed down. There were fewer and fewer daemons in the pens they kept Fiorire in, like an animal.
Like a dog.
Luis held out a clean kerchief and dabbed his friend’s eyes gently, the warmth of the fabric and his hands was enough to open the gates for Leon’s tears.
Every night, they penned her and caged him. Every day they dragged her away until the Tether created a vacuum for the Dust to collect on, getting caught in the chemicals the researchers had smothered both Leon and Fiorire in.
People he had eaten lunch with, before.
People he had laughed with, before.
People who had been killing children, before.
So he didn’t regret it.
Until one day, a scientist came who looked at the roster and the setup and knew.
He knew what had been happening and what was supposed to be happening and knew that something had gone very, very wrong.
Or that he hadn’t been given the truth.
“So what led Mr. Hot-Shot Special Guest Dustologist to inciting a prison break?” Leon leaned back, eyes red-rimmed but his story complete.
The scientist took in a breath and took over. --- A/N Part 5 already??? Hell yeah! Babbo - Dad/Papa Fun fact! Fiorire (Leon's White Iberian Wolf daemon) means "Bloom/Blossom", so for him to pretend her name is the opposite of that is.........yeah. Love that for him. (I don't!) I still have one more part after this written, and then we're in the wilds of "Who knows! Not me!", so that'll be fun. :D I think I have a general idea of what's going to happen (and I know a fun twist that's coming!) but how we get there.... iunno.
[Pt. 6]

Mike Patton, italian interview, sept 2000
Probably, this interview took place right before the concert at Arena Parco Nord in Bologna, during the Independence Days Festival. A nice thing to know: the guy interviewing Mike is also from the US, his name is Derek Simons. Enjoy!
youtube
// Here we are with Mike Patton from Mr. Bungle, who's also been part of a ton of other bands. I know you're about to go on stage in a bit, but for those folks in Italy who might not know you yet, here's a super simple question: tell us what Mr. Bungle's music is like.
Mike: fiuuu, questo è difficilissimo! // Fiuuu, this is very hard!
I: (sarcasm mode on) no è semplice! // Oh no, it's easy!
Mike: no no no, un suono particolare, meglio (da) comprare il disco e scopri così. Io non posso descrivere. // Well, it's a unique sound, better to buy the album and discover it for yourself. I can't really describe it. (Mike Mike Mike, we don't expect these mistakse from you: "da" is incorrect here and you should have said "lo scopri così/ lo scoprirai così).
I: il disco "California" sta andando bene. // "California" is doing well.
Mike: sta andando abbastanza bene, benissimo no, diciamo a un livello modesto, sì.// It's going pretty well, not great, let's say at a modest level, yeah.
I: ma siete contenti? // Are you guys happy?
Mike: sì, però noi siamo contenti con poco, eh. // Yeah, but we're happy with very little, you know. (sweet smile and "contenti con poco" is fuc*ing native)
I: ho letto una lista di tutte le canzoni cover che fate nei vari concerti, ci saranno 80 diverse canzoni. Come mai questa passione per le teme delle colonne sonore dei film? // I've read a list of all the cover songs you perform at different concerts, there are 80 different songs. What's the reason for this passion for film soundtrack themes? (some mistakes here but our US friend has a pretty good italian, I remember him, LOL).
Mike: ma più che altro è che le nostre canzoni, che scriviamo noi, dopo un po' diventano un po' noiose e dobbiamo aggiungere qualche spezia, così. E i cover sono... è per questo motivo che suoniamo i cover. // More than anything, it's just that our songs, the ones we write ourselves, can get a bit boring after a while, so we have to add some spice to them. And the covers... that's why we play covers. (In Italian, "cover" is feminine so "le cover", not "i cover").
I: c'è un qualsiasi stile musicale che è rimasto da provare per voi? // Is there any music style left for you guys to try?
Mike: sempre. C'è sempre qualcosa da imparare, da provare. Però più che altro da imparare. Quanto tempo più che suono più che realizzo che più che so che non conosco niente, che non so niente. // Always. There's always something to learn, to try. But more than anything, to learn. The longer I play, the more I realize that I don't know anything, that I know nothing. (A bit chaotic but our grammar is a mess with this kind of phrase. He wanted to say "più suono, più mi rendo conto che non conosco niente, non so niente". Btw, the meaning is clear).
Mike: ciao ciao a tutti che stanno guardando "Surfing", ci vediamo! // Hi to all the people out there who are watching "Surfing", see ya!
In this interview, his Italian isn't at its best. Probably, he spent some time abroad during the summer, and he was a bit incorrect here and there. By the way, it's always more than good!
