So I know it's gonna seem a little strange to analyze something as simple as Shaun the Sheep, but does anybody else believe that Shaun was a child/baby during the events of A Close Shave?

Cuz not only does he look smaller to me, but his baa's/bleats sound more high pitched as well. Even his voice actor Justin Fletcher mentioned in an interview that the first baa he gave Shaun was "quite high" and that later on he's "grown up a tiny bit" so now his baa is still a little high but not as much as it used to be. You can watch this interview right here btw.

So from Justin's description of him growing up, along with a few other moments/actions Shaun sometimes does in the show, I'm very certain that the series highlights his life as a young adult since then. I mean I know that him being a young adult throughout the series was probably already pretty obvious but I just think it's kind of neat to think that he was a baby in his debut film and that the series has progressed his life since then.

And I know that might also sound strange since Shaun's series has very much become its own unique show/world from the Wallace and Gromit one, especially since Shaun the Sheep doesn't have any dialog while Wallace and Gromit does. Therefore it can be kind of hard to imagine that A Close Shave happened within the same timeline of the series at this point. And of course the fact that we've seen him as a baby on the farm at the beginning of the first movie. So perhaps it would be better to say that he was a child in A Close Shave rather than a baby.

But I dunno, I just think this is a neat idea because I feel like it can be a good representation of how far he's come since his debut film all the way back in 1995. And it feels like a nice way for his character to start off. And even if it's pretty debatable as to whether or not the Wallace and Gromit world is truly also the same world as the Shaun the Sheep series, it's still lots of fun to imagine that A Close Shave was still something that happened in Shaun's life long ago before he maybe came back to the farm all grown up or something.

Anyway, so sorry for this long analysis but I just thought it'd be neat to talk about cuz it's been on my mind for a while. Plus you know me, I'll take every chance I can to talk about my son and my hyperfixation on his show. Even when it's a longer post like this. 😋 This is just my personal speculation on the whole thing.

Involuntarily, you smile. You do that a lot now, each one printed with Shiro’s name. You pour yourself a glass and carry it with you to the bathroom. Putting it on the ground next to you, you run water for a bath, turn to the sink.

Just standing there, brushing your teeth as you wait, you start to feel tired. For someone who’s lived in the desert for all of his life, you’re not really a fan of the heat. It makes your hair grow sticky and lie flat with sweat every other day, and there’s just something about the crackling air that makes you irritable. You shuck off your boxers and get into the bath, wincing as you go from incredible heat to incredible cold. You end up adding warm water before you can relax.

You slide underwater, eyes squeezed shut, and seize tranquility.

Maybe you can fall back asleep after this. It’s a day off from Kolivan’s today — Antok and Kolivan are out of town, celebrating their anniversary — but you find yourself wondering if you should just go in anyway, see if the garage’s AC is working. It’s tempting, but you do end up falling asleep, right there in the tub, and can’t dwell on the thought any longer.

It’s Shiro’s voice that wakes you: “Keith? Are you home?”

“Shiro,” your sleep-slurred voice calls. “M’here.”

“Where?”

“Bathroom.” You rub your eyes, sit up. Shiro must be here for his lunch break, but you can’t remember if there’s anything other than beans in the pantry. “Door’s open.”

Shiro steps inside, his expression softening when he sees you. You still can’t believe how lucky you are: how can someone like you make someone like him look that that? He’s wearing your favorite shirt of his, too: a gray button-down, rolled up at the sleeves. You reach out, motion for him to come closer.

“Get in with me,” you say. I want to ruin you is what you don’t say, but he reads it in the curve of your lips, the dark of your pupils.

“Baby,” Shiro chides, fights a smile. “I have to get back to work.”

“You have an hour.” You might be whining, just a little bit. “Just take your clothes off and come in.”

“I feel like you’re a mermaid trying to lead me to my death,” Shiro laughs, sits on the edge of the tub to run a hand through your wet hair. “But how can I say no?”

“So get in,” you press, grinning. You flick a couple drops of water at him, turn his breast pocket dark gray.

“We’re not gonna fit in the tub,” Shiro says skeptically. “I can lift you out, though. We can go to the bed.”

Shiro’s biceps are looking very, very appealing in that button-down. Nothing sounds better than being held by them, but if you leave the tub, you’ll have to face the heat again. Ugh.

“My skin’s all,” you fumble for the right word, “you know. And the AC’s broken. So you should get in with me anyway. See?” You show him your pruned fingertips, wiggle them a bit. Shiro laughs, heads out of the bathroom. You hear his belt hitting the ground, hear him hopping out of his pants. You sit up a little straighter. Shiro trips over his shoes; you don’t bother stifling your laughter. Shiro pads back to you, pouting.

“What if I’d been hurt?”

“Then I’ll kiss it better,” you coo. With a laugh, Shiro crouches by the tub, opens up his arms. With an overdramatic sigh, you climb out of the tub and settle against his chest, comfortably braced by strong, firm arms. Shiro’s prosthetic is pleasantly cold, too, and you lean into its chill. Shiro kisses the top of your head. “Hi, Keithy kat.”

“Oh my god.”

“Keithheart,” Shiro continues, punctuates his laugh with a kiss to your neck as he stands. You’re dripping all over the floor, all over him as he carries you to the bed, but you don’t really care. Shiro’s kissing your cheeks, your neck, your hair. You both tumble onto the sheets together, and Shiro’s laugh shakes your your skin as he pulls you close.

“Hi,” he whispers. There’s a sheen of sweat on his forehead, but it’s him, so you think of -- god -- dew on grass, rain kissing its way down glass --

“You’re lookin’ hot, Shirogane,” is what you end up saying. He grins, wipes at his forehead before he nuzzles your collarbone, lips skimming above your heart.

“Real sweaty, right?” he says, works his way down to kiss at your thighs. “Wonder whose fault that is.”

“Sure as hell not mine.” You may be gasping. You run your hand through his hair, clutch at the short strands to anchor yourself.

“It’s always you, for me,” Shiro says, muffled into skin. “Wouldn’t want it any other way.”

You drag him up, climb into his lap. Roll your hips against him, place your arms around his neck. Your throat is thick, your head spinning, and you can’t speak. But you don’t need to, with him. He knows. He knows you better than you know yourself. His hands come up to hold you against him, and you think about the sun melting you both into a warped sculpture, terrible and beautiful and forever, before you bend down to kiss him. Or maybe this is just you flying too close to the sun -- his prosthetic comes up to hold your cheek, but you find that you’re still burning against cool metal.  

Even if you end up falling, melted wax on your shoulder blades and the ocean yawning wide underneath you -- his heat is the kind you’ll never mind.
