Always and Forever

Keith was elated, filled with both dread and excitement at once as he lifted Shiro onto the back of his hover bike. He found him. Rather, Shiro had crash landed and Keith rescued him. Semantics aside, Keith wanted to think of nothing more than bringing Shiro back home, where he was safe. Unfortunately, the universe had other plans. The last thing he had expected was a party when he broke Shiro out of the Garrison camp. But, here he was, with four other people on his bike, weighing him down. 

“Can’t this thing so any faster?!” Lance shrieked, looking behind them as Garrison members raced after them. 

“We could toss out some non-essential weight,” Keith growled, annoyance creeping onto his features. 

“Oh right!...So that was an insult, I get it.” Keith was beyond exasperated at this point. He had no idea who these people were or why they had followed him to get to Shiro. 

Once Keith saw the cliff twelve yards away, he found some joy. Launching himself and the others off into the sand, ditching the Garrison fleet and making their way towards Keith’s home was as smooth as could be. Other than everyone screaming and yelling at him. 

He had found some kind of peace in the desert, there was no one around to disrupt him. Which would have been perfect if it had been him and Shiro out there, alone. But it had ended up just being Keith, grieving for the loss of his “dead” boyfriend. After that, the desert seemed to speak to him. Something had called to him, telling him to stay there. So, with no other purpose in life, he did. He had decoded cave drawings of strange lions, leading him to Shiro that night. For this, he was beyond thankful. He had thought his life was over, that maybe he had started going crazy from heat exhaustion. But, when he looked into Shiro’s face for the first time in over a year, he knew everything was worth it. 

That morning, after the annoyingly crowded rescue, Shiro got up just as the sun broke the horizon and left Keith’s room. Keith had been sleeping on the floor, back against his closet door when he heard his steps creak on the wooden floor. He waited a few seconds before cracking his limbs and following the man he had spent the last year grieving. Closing the front door behind him, Keith admired Shiro from afar. He stood alone a few yards from the shack, arms crossed in front of his brick wall of a chest. Cautiously, Keith walked up behind the older man, putting his hand on the back of his shoulder. Shiro turned to him immediately. “Sorry, did I wake you?” His smile was everything Keith had dreamed about, just as sweet and heartbreaking as the first time they had met. 

“Don’t be, I was trying to wait till you woke up.” Their eyes held, not a word spoken between them for a while. They just soaked in each other’s presence. Shiro had thought of Keith every day since he left earth, and even more after he was captured. He couldn’t even believe that Keith had found him, or how for that matter. “How are you? Truth,” Keith asked, eyes softening. 

Shiro let out a sigh. “Truth. I’m still shaken up. I’m still trying to peace all my memories together, figure out what happened while I was captured.” Shiro closed his eyes for a moment, breathing in the desert air. 

Keith thought, not sure whether or not he should ask. “So…” Keith looked around awkwardly. 

“What?” Shiro asked, his shoulder cocking to the side. Keith loved that tick. 

“What happened to your hair? Not that I don’t like it but…” Keith smirked before saying, “It really accentuates your age.” 

Shiro just stared at him, dumbfounded before bursting out laughing. Keith joined him readily, hand over his mouth as he laughed harder than he had in a long time. “Next time I get captured by aliens, I promise I’ll ask them to use botox,” Shiro joked, moving closer to Keith. 

“Nah, none of that. I like your crows feet.” Keith’s voice was soft as he reached up to cradle the side of Shiro’s face. Closing his eyes, Shiro leaned into the touch like he was about to fall asleep right there. “You know…I missed you,” Keith mumbled. 

Shiro’s eyes opened, giving him a sad smile. “Oh Keith, I missed you too.” Immediately, Shiro enveloped him in a hug, pressing their chests together as hard as he could. Keith melted into the touch in an instant, wrapping his arms around Shiro’s neck. They stayed like that for a while, basking in each other’s warmth and love. A year without physical affection or contact had deprived them both of much needed comfort. Keith broke apart, only for a moment, and dragged Shiro into a chaste kiss. It was sweet, soft, and slow; all things that neither of them had in the beginning of their relationship, but here they were. 

“We should get inside, before the others wake up at least,” Keith whispered against Shiro’s lips as they broke apart. 

Shiro hummed, nodding. They slowly walked back into the cabin, hands releasing from one another once they got to the entrance. The others began to wake from the terrible night they had before, talking about sciencey stuff that Keith didn’t really understand. He showed them what he had found out in the desert, the marked caves with symbols he didn’t understand. He also told them about the energy he had been feeling, the one that had led him to Shiro. When he spoke, he watched his boyfriend from his periphery. Shiro looked concerned, curious even. The big guy, Hunk, had come up with a way to track the energy that Keith spoke of. He led them all out into the desert and into one of the caves filled with lion carvings. Lance made a stupid joke before the entire cave lit up blue. “That’s never happened before!” Keith said in shock before all of them fell through the floor. 

When he saw the lion, Shiro was more curious than anything. He stared in awe, admiring the obvious handiwork that went into making this thing. This had to be Voltron. He had never seen anything like it. When Lance stepped forward and knocked on the force field surrounding the lion, Shiro realized how wrong he really was. Voltron was five different lions combined into one giant robot. Seeing how large the one lion was, he couldn’t fathom how enormous all five of them would be together. 

“It’s like the lion is talking to me!” Lance exclaimed, touching some buttons before taking off in the ship. Immediately, Keith’s body fell into Shiro’s as they were flung around in the lion ship. Shiro gripped onto the younger man, holding both of them up as best he could. He couldn’t lie, even after their closeness this morning he still craved Keith’s touch. Even if this wasn’t the best situation to be in, with Lance flying the alien war ship, he still tried to enjoy what he could. That was, until they broke out of the atmosphere of Earth and were suddenly face to face with a Galran battle ship. Shiro was scared, he needed them all to make it out of this alive. He wouldn’t let what happened to the Holt’s happen again. 

The lion maneuvered out of the way of the Galra ship before spitting out a wormhole. The team began arguing about what they should do. Should they go through? Where would they end up? Should they turn back? No, that wasn’t the best option. It seemed like the only choice that ended with them being alive was to go through the wormhole and hope they didn’t end up in a black hole. 

“I don’t recognize any of these constellations. We must be a long, long way  from Earth,” Shiro’s voice was sad, Keith noticed. He could imagine why. He had just gotten back to Earth less than a day ago and suddenly he was back out in space. Keith nudged his hand gently, giving Shiro a small smile. 

“The lion it going towards this plant. I think it’s going home,” Lance said, nervously. The lion began to shake as they entered the atmosphere of this new planet. “Okay, I need some personal space guys! Hunk, your breath is killing me!” 

“Is it just me or is anyone else having second thoughts about flying through a mysterious wormhole? Why are we listening to a robotic lion?” Hunk chattered, his nerves bleeding into the air. 

They were all nervous, Shiro especially. He had no idea where they were. The last thing he wanted was for all of them to be captured by another crew of violent aliens. “It got us away from that alien warship, didn’t it?” Lance boasted, showing some protectiveness over the lion in an odd way. 

“I don’t know if you noticed, but we’re in an alien warship!” Keith’s eyes narrowed at the Cuban. 

“Scared?” Lance teased. 

“With you at the helm, terrified.” Keith rolled his eyes, shifting his weight back onto Shiro. 

“Alright, everyone knock it off! No one is happy about this situation, but we’re here now. If we want to get through this we need to do this together,” Shiro said in annoyance. He was getting too old to do damage control for kids. 

After a rather smelly ride down to the ground, all five of them got out of the lion and walked up to a giant castle. The lion roared, opening the doors and allowing them to step inside. Although it was the lion that brought them to its home, the castle was oddly human sized. The group explored the building, following the corridor. They were stopped and scanned for a moment, Shiro asking all kinds of questions. There didn’t seem to be anyone around, like this place had been deserted. 

“Um…Are these guys dead?” Hunk asked nervously, looking into tall glass pods. Suddenly, one of the pods opened, a girl dropping out of it, calling for someone. 

Lance caught the girl. “Hello~” he purred. 

“Who are you? Where am I?” the girl asked, her voice becoming increasingly concerned. 

“I’m Lance, and you’re right here in my arms.” The boy smirked. 

Keith rolled his eyes at Shiro, who chuckled a bit. “Are you alright?” Keith whispered. He hadn’t wanted to say anything in front of the others, but he could see how tight Shiro’s stance was. 

Shiro nodded, crossing his arms. “Just nervous. I don’t want anything to happen.” 

Keith looked over him before bumping their hands together gently. His boyfriend appreciated the gesture, wishing this was the right time to hold the other boys hand. 

A second pod opened and a man with a rather large mustache fell out, ready to fight. Him and Lance got into some kind of odd metaphorical fight that was pointless beyond words, when the girl–who claimed to be a princess– gasped. 

“What is it, Princess?” Coran asked, walking up behind her.

“We’ve been a sleep for ten thousand years!” She was in a state of panic. “Zarkon,” she growled, eyes narrowing as she burned holes into the hologram in front of her. 

“Zarkon…?” Shiro’s voice waivered, his eyes deep in thought. Keith worried for the older man, they still hadn’t gotten to talk about anything that had happened over the last year. He couldn’t remember. 

“He was the King of the Galra. A vile creature, and an enemy to all free people,” Spit the Princess. 

Shiro’s face went pale. “I remember now, I was his prisoner.” 

Allura’s eyes widened in shock. “He’s still alive? That’s impossible!” 

“It’s true, he searching for something called Voltron.” Shiro stepped forward, trying to convey how urgent this matter was to the Princess. 

Prisoner. Shiro had been a prisoner for a whole year. What had they done to him? Keith had already known that they had taken Shiro’s arm, something Shiro was very self conscious of, but what else could he not remember?

“He’s searching for it because he knows it is the only thing that can defeat him.” Allura’s confidence shot up, her determination spreading to everyone else in the group. 

Now, all they have to do is find the damn thing, Keith thought.

Sheith Month 2020 // JUNE

The 4th Annual Sheith Month is upon us!

On June 1st we will began a month long celebration of our two favorite boys (Shiro and Keith) and their undying love for each other. As always, this event holds the goal of creating/sharing content for sheith and gives you free reign over your artistic contributions, whether it be art, writing, edits, memes, music, or anything else you can think of!

BASIC RULES: You can participate in all the days or just a few (or even just one). There are no minimum requirements or limits to what you want to create, it’s all up to you. However, there are a few rules to help keep the event safe and fun for everyone involved.

☆ NS\FW is absolutely allowed, but it must be tagged with a #ns\fw tag. ☆ NO “broganes” allowed. ☆ NO OT3s, unless it’s additional versions of Keith and Shiro (e.g. Kuro). ☆ Tag your content as #SheithMonth2020 (within the first five tags) and/or tag @sheithmonth somewhere on the post. ☆Anonymous Participation options can be found on Rules/Info page.. ☆If you have ideas that don’t fit the prompts, you can tag them as Free Days ☆This is supposed to be fun, so don’t stress if you can’t get a submission in on time.
