So I've talked before about my burning desire to go and build a separatist tribe of women in nature, preferably in forest next to a mountain or somewhere far out so that nobody would bother us. I've been keeping on building that dream in my head, but also in many practical ways, trying to prepare myself for it. This tribe would have to function out of capitalism, off grid, without the use of money or even electricity, unless one day I figure out how to produce some. So we use only technology that is not harmful to nature and produce everything we need to survive.

It sounds so surreal, but it's not a particularly wild idea, because humans have been doing this for millenia and lived, I presume, with way less of their population depressed and suicidal. It wasn't more than 80 years ago humans lived without electrity or modern commodities, my 85yo neighbour can still remember bathing in collected rainwater and washing the clothes in the river. (Don't worry, we wont have to wash the clothes in the river, I found a way.)

So what I'm proposing is in fact, far more reasonable, climate conscious and healthy than living in capitalism, only problem is: It's less convenient.

We're to assume it's convenience that brings us comfort and happiness, but I'm about to propose a counter-argument: It's not. It's boring and makes everything very impersonal and unsatisfactory. I can tell, but only because I've been shifting into that inconvenient, more-effort-put into survival kind of life. And, it's been a very fun, weird time.

So as you can see by my posts, I've been learning to grow food and to make meals from self-grown food only, and eating feels different. It's far from impersonal when you bring a handful of seeds into life, then harvest and store and eat that; you know where this food has been. You know the food's story and it's been interlaced with your own story to the point where it's no longer something you consume, you have memories with that food. It means something to you. And, it's way, WAY harder to throw it away. You do not waste what you build up from scratch.

I've also been venturing into other self-sustaining missions, like, cleaning products and preserving resources as you would in nature, figuring out hygiene without capitalism, and this is where my life got weird. If I wanna wash my hair, I go and make tea, then wash my hair in that. Funny snippet, lemon balm tea actually darkens your hair the more you use it, people in my life now legit think my hair is black, it's not! It's brown but the herb made it so dark nobody can tell. I've since found out there are also herbs that make your hair lighter, or even give it a blue-ish glow! That is way fun. Washing hair like this is a more effort than shampoo, but I feel different about it. Proud I did that, or just happy I never have to buy a shampoo maybe.

If I wanna do laundry I'll go and cut open some conkers, since I still have a bag of unprocessed ones and they work as a detergent. If I wanna clean something I use vinegar I infused with orange peel, it smells amazing. If I need to go to the bathroom I'll skip on toilet paper and use family cloth. Now what is that? I actually heard someone on youtube say that word and researched it and found out that before toilet paper, people used rectangular strips of white cloth, to clean themselves, and they were all washed so it was reusable and wasted no resources since you could cut any old cotton shirt into strips and use it. Now a lot of people react with 'ewww' but hear me out: you don't use it for number two unless you have a washing liquid to immediately throw it into (I don't), and, do you throw away any underwear that you've used just once? They get about as filthy as that and then you put them thru boil cycle in the washing machine, they take so little space inside it's forgettable, and you can use them forever. I actually only had to buy toilet paper once, this entire year. 10/10. Also, extremely comfy and soft to use. If anyone wondered.

I also cook my food in weird ways, mostly having it wrapped in towels instead on a stove top, I rarely heat any bathroom water and either use cold or I also discovered I love heating a pot of water and just spilling it over myself instead of showering, it feels so good! It's so gentle and pleasant, showers are agressive and mean in comparison, it's like they hate you and are trying to spray you away. Water gently spilling from a pot on your body loves you and wants you to be happy and experience pleasure and love.

So I'm not trying to brag too much here but I haven't visited a grocery store in two months (figured out how to buy flour directly from the company lol) and maybe visited them 7 times this year altogether, isn't that kinda wild? And yes I'm giving myself a little star for good pandemic behaviour. I earned that. I just seem to not need stuff anymore unless they're oil and flour and maybe some salt and sugar. And it wasn't ... that hard. I mean okay, poverty and general anxiety are fueling my behaviour for sure, but it feels very much like... it's not that impossible to do without stuff, if you're crazy stubborn and don't have many alternatives.

I've also been prepairing for this life in a savage hermit hoarder type of matter; I've collected jars obsessively, stored every little produce net or bag that anyone brought to my place, I collect dumb promotional newspapers to start fires with in the future, and I can make baskets out of it, I stored every plastic cup or container ever because I can grow seedlings in those, I collected all seeds in any way available to me, I don't throw away any fabric anymore bc I can sew new things, any soft and spongy textured thing is stored to make seating space on future chairs and cushions, and I value every bit of knowledge coming my way only in regard to how it could help me survive.

I haven't figured out the medicinal side of this, or the social aspect, but at this point it feels very wrong for me to be in a city, renting out an apartment, and then living half like a little savage on the side and refusing to go to the store. I should be in my little cob house dammit, and cooking in my cauldron on top of a fire. I should be bathing in rainwater and have plants on every surface of my home. I should have soil available to grow all my food. And optimally have a big swing and a tree house and an obstacle course in the forest. I wanna drink water that I discovered in a spring or collected from rain and filtered with the coal I made. I wanna know how earthen floors feel under my bare feet.

So anyways, how many of you'd wanna join a tribe where we live in cob houses and tell stories around a fire and change our hair color with tea and presumably spill water over each other because hygiene is important? Also we never shave or care abt how our faces look and we shed the light onto downfall of capitalsm because I feel like, if we all (the population) just bought flour, oil sugar and salt, a lot of things would go down super fast.

saige never believed she was created out of love. it was an action with a purpose, intentions to create the perfect child. the hybrid of both military genius and fashion extraordinaire, molded to their will.

it took them no more than six months after her birth for her parents to up and move, thus beginning the cycle of packing and unpacking, flying and driving, state-to-state and country-to-country. the longest saige had ever stayed in one place was two years.

kept on a short leash, homeschooled, and learning skills she had no interest in – she was more like a pet, a project, than a child. the world moved all around her, but she felt restrictively tethered to her parents.

she had always felt this way. a bird in a cage of thorns.

I'd be interested to hear what you don't like about Sword/Shield. For me, it's quite the opposite. I played the hell out of the 3rd and 4th Gens, then struggled to finish White and didn't buy White 2. Didn't finish SoulSilver, or whichever of X or Y I got, and became completely bored about 10 hours into Alpha Sapphire despite being all motivated to play the game with my original Sapphire team only now I know what I'm doing. Didn't even BUY Sun/Moon.

Then I hung out with my Pokemon friends over Sword/Shield launch weekend, watched them playing on the TV, and had to immediately borrow a spare Switch so I could play too. By the end of the weekend I'd bought the Switch and paid to download my own copy of Shield. I have a few issues with it, mostly relating to the lack of clothing options for male characters, but otherwise I'm finding it the blast of fresh air that I needed to get back into the Pokemon games.

I’ve heard a lot of people say something similar, that SwSh was a nice upgrade from the past couple gens. I started slipping around XY - didn’t wanna buy a 3DS and didn’t until Omega Ruby came out, since Ruby was the first one I’d played - and after I finished the Team Flare plot of X I just gave up for three years and only last year finished the 8th gym and the league. I honestly don’t remember much of playing OR. I think it was a weird kind of frantic nostalgia-fueled haze but I genuinely cannot comment on what I liked about that game. It’s a blank in my memory. Really enjoyed Sun and Moon, like Sword but get bummed the longer I think about it. But I did buy it because I did see a ton of people saying it was a change they were enjoying, quality-of-life upgrades, fun new features, etc. Different strokes and all.

My biggest gripe on Sword is that the world feels pretty empty. Besides the Wild Area, and its few secluded corners, though it’s really a straightforward place, there’s nothing to explore. The plot grabs you by the hand and pulls you to every location. There’s nothing off-the-way that you don’t go to for the main plot. There’s nothing like Kanto’s Power Plant, or Alola’s Power Plant - which I didn’t even realize was there on my first pass through, and then I was like “hey what’s this little place, OH MY GOD WHAT THERE’S MORE STUFF HERE.” The region is a linear loop. There’s no weird little caves that aren’t plot relevant that you get scrambled up in. There’s nowhere that’s locked until you beat the League, like the other half of Poni Island or those last upper bits in Unova or the Battle Frontier in Sinnoh. I had canvassed the Wild Area for everything by the time I went to the final tournament. There’s nowhere else to go. Sure I went back through the Wild Area to catch more stuff to fill out my Pokedex, but new places? Nothing. There’s nowhere to go back to once you can cross water except the little lake by the professor’s house. Not like in Sun/Moon where there’s bits on prior islands to go back to with Lapras. That cave underneath the starting island to go check out I’m thinking of. Galar is a pretty bare-bones region and the Wild Area doesn’t fully compensate.

Which ties to my other biggest gripe, which is, there are three legendary Pokemon in the game and one of them is the opposite version’s exclusive that you can’t get. Two legendary Pokemon! Two legendary Pokemon you can catch! And you catch them both in the course of the plot! There’s nothing like the Regi trio hidden by batshit puzzles, or Cobalion/Terrakion/Virizion tucked in out-of-the-way corners. No wandering Lati@s or beast trio. No Tapus or anything. You can catch two legendary Pokemon.

I think we really peaked back in Gen 3 with its visual Braille puzzles and Gen 4 with whatever the everloving fuck the Turnback Cave was on about. The weird locations that hurt your brain. I miss those. I miss the tricky caves you get lost in and spend time figuring it out. Galar didn’t have caves. The mines were basically a straight shot, yknow? When I’d like to go deeper and have more to explore instead of feeling like I’m taking a walking tour of the whole region.

And the DLC looks like it’ll deal at least with that point with more legendaries, which really grinds my gears. In all the discourse about whether or not the DLC is good or bad or neutral, whether the price of video games has needed to go up or the DLC is cheaper than a third version but some people wait for the third version, which I didn’t seek out said discourse but saw pass me by on Twitter, I saw no one mention that we’re paying to get more than two legendary Pokémon and I felt like I was losing my mind for a little while there. I feel like I’m paying extra for something that’s been in every game since the beginning of time, that being more than two legendary Pokémon that I can catch.

And my lesser little gripes: level balance of the game felt a little wonky with the wild Pokemon toward the end higher leveled than all the trainers except Leon, and the always-on exp share made it worse because when I dragged out the plot by catching everything in the Wild Area, my team got way overleveled for the back half of the game and I could curbstomp everyone that passed me. Team Yell were an egregious roadblock and while Pokemon has always had those, the prominence of Team Yell was exasperating. I prefer environmental roadblocks, like water and back when we used to have other HMs, those feel a little better than two dudes standing in the middle of a wide road.

And why, oh WHY, did GameFreak downgrade after XY and only have fitting rooms in boutiques instead of also in Pokemon Centers? I don’t want to fly to another town to change my clothes! Not every town has a clothes shop but everywhere has a Pokemon Center! I was crusading on this point through Sun/Moon and I will not be stopped until GameFreak puts changing rooms back in Pokemon Centers! (They will probably never do that but I refuse to stop. Forget Dexit; this is the real issue of our time.)

I didn’t mind the limited Pokémon at release because I never transfer my teams thru the games anyway - I’m a sentimental anxious idiot afraid of decisions and commitment and I can’t commit to the one-way transfers to move my teams up to new games. And that plus the Wild Area having trade-evolution Pokemon walking around made me feel like completing my pokedex was actually attainable. So I did!

I don’t hate the game, but I am disappointed by it. I’ve never been a Battle Tower or shiny-hunting person, but I’ve ended up doing those because I don’t know what else to do.

So that’s my opinion on why SwSh has bummed me out more as time goes on, since you were curious.

(Joker from Mass Effect 2 when you ask him for gossip about your teammates voice: “But that’s just my opinion, no need to go spreading it around.” ;) I’ll gladly chat with friends but the poke-discourse got too intense on twitter and I am not inviting that kind of bad energy into our lives. None of us deserve that.)

I’ve still got a lot of endgame stuff for Sun and Moon, UB hunting and I haven’t made it to the Battle Tree yet because my Moon team is getting its ass kicked by everything because I turned the exp share off and overcompensated in the wrong direction and am chronically underleveled. There’s a certain charm for me in being underleveled because I used to have endless patience to overlevel my team to extremes because my childhood anxiety was something like “if I die in the game I die in real life???” and I was terrified of losing and now I’m like “blacks out twice in a row in Moon as I go toward the postgame stuff yolo”. So when I feel like playing Pokemon I’ll probably spend more time in Alola, when I’m not trying to hatch that damn shiny Rookidee because I accidentally committed to that.

33. — tragic keepsake

((Thank you very much for providing this chance to break some hearts. WARNING!!! THIS IS ANGSTY!!! MENTIONS OF SUICIDE!! DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS TOPIC!!!))

It was like walking on ice the whole time. Each little step was on your tiptoes, trying not to disturb the world around you. This journey was so hard. It always was. Every year on the same day you’d make sure to take the long walk up the mountainside. You chose the more scenic path because you had so many memories attached to the trail hidden by trees. A cough escaped your lips as you tracked on.

You could remember the warm spring you first found this little hidden pathway. You smiled as the memory flooded your mind. You rode on your horse, side by side with a man you loved more than anything else in this awful, evil world. The two of you talked on and off about this and that, chuckling at any jokes that passed between the two of you.

His name was Arthur. Arthur Morgan, a man truly of the west. He may have sung little songs calling you the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. He’d sing that song, “Still I love my faithless Flora, the Lily of the West.” Every time he mumbled the little tune, you’d smile and blush like a school girl. He was so sweet, and so very sweet on you. You missed the sound of his voice the most.

You took this path by foot now, not wanting to rush by on horseback. You’ve done for several years now. It had to... what? 20 years now? 25? You weren’t sure, really, and it didn’t matter how long it’d been either. It only mattered that you had to do this.

You looked at every little detail, how everything has changed, but it was still the same too. The forest looked as cluttered and deep as always and smelled of sweet wild lilac bushes. His favorite flower... He loved them and their pungent smell. Arthur would go wild for lilacs, and he’d simply just grab a bundle of flowers and stuff his face in them and take the deepest breath. He was such a silly man.

The forest slowly grew less and less as you ventured further up the mountainside. If you were lucky, you’d get there by sundown. The backpack you slugged around your back had everything you needed in it. It was heavy and made your back ache out in pain but you ignored it and went on.

Off the side of the trail, you noticed a familiar sight. A rock that was riddled with bullet holes and once was stained with blood. The memory came flooding in whether you wanted it too or not. You traced a hand lightly on your side through your shirt. The gunshot wonder always felt numb and sensitive at the same time. You nearly died there on that rock while Arthur rushed to murder and save your life simultaneously. What day that was. Despite the tragicness of it, you still smiled at that memory.

Arthur had picked you up and carried you by foot for almost a mile before you found your horses again. They ran away in the commotion of the shoot out and they ran far. You were bleeding out on him as he carried you bridal style, “You’re a mess,” You told him, “I’m gonna die here and you’re going to be a mess,”

“You ain’t gonna die” You could remember how his face twisted up when he said that. “You’ve made a mess of me before and this ain’t gonna be that last time. You got plenty more messes to make.”

He was right. You lived, painfully so, but you lived and healed to see another day. You wished he was here, at the moment, right now as you left the forest for open rocky cliff sides. You were always afraid of heights, you use to hold tight to Arthur’s hand and clung tightly to his arm. You couldn’t stand seeing the drop, it caused you to go light headed and near piss yourself from the sheer fear of falling. You had to hold back a harsh cough while you carefully clung to the cliffside.

The sun was starting to set. You could see its slow descent into the hilly horizon it called its grave. The trip was already more than half done. You only had a bit left to go. You always loved sunsets, but your moved sunrises more. Just like Arthur.

The two of you had so much in common. It’s funny because it took years of fruitful friendship to finally say those three simple words of “I love you.”

You could remember that do so clearly. The crip clean memory waved into your thoughts quickly. It was a cool summer morning further out west in the desert. You had woken up to a letter on the table beside your tent, asking you to meet someone somewhere far away. You knew the location, it was a small lake that went back and forth between full and empty with the rainy season. There was always a deep save system and waterfall that also came and went with the seasons. You went there, to the little lake, and found a camp set up just at the mouth of the caves.

The remains of the spring rain trickled down in a small misty waterfall that never truly reach the lake’s surface, and rather just blew away in the wind. You found Arthur there, waiting for you. He seemed nervous and more of a mess than usual. You were both so young, and yet so old. Someplace in the middle of 23 and 28, after Arthur got over his heartbreak with Mary. You thought the two of you would always be friends, but he loved you, and he knew he hurt you choosing Mary over yourself.

So he made it up to you in the best way he could. He got you alone, told you his feelings and waited for you to say something. When you returned his feelings, saying how much he meant to you, but how hard it was and how painful it was to be ignored and pushed aside for someone else. He admitted his wrongs, called himself a fool and bitterly laughed. He wanted to make it up to you so he made you an entire dinner over the fire and asked if he could give you something as a keepsake to always remember him buy.

You remembered as you grew closer and closer to your destination, and lifted your hand to grasp the locket around your neck. How many years have you worn that thing? You were so god damn young, you didn’t have a clue..

That night long ago, Arthur gave you that locket. When he gave it to you, you expected there to be a picture of some kind it in, like most lockets. But there was no picture. It was a large but beautiful locket big enough to fit a small note in it, that when folded a hundred and ten times, could easily fit nice and snug inside.

There was also room for something else that you could hear even now clinking around in there as you walked your step cliffside path. You knew the note by heart. In your thoughts, you repeated it to yourself.

I’ve done you wrong, so many times. You’ve stuck with me since I could remember. For all those years we grew up together, I’m glad it was you. I wouldn’t have it any other way, or anyone else. I’d do it all again if it meant I got to be with you. I know many people have told you this before, but you beautiful, and in my eyes, you’re so simply perfect. I can’t stand the thought of losing you. The way your eyes light up when you see me, the way you laugh quietly at my boring jokes, the way you lean your head on my shoulder when we sit by the fire. You give me a comfort I never knew, and I don’t want to let that go. The last few months with you attached at my hip has honestly changed my world, I’m glad your there. I’m glad I can tell you about my day, about the things I do, the people I rob, the things I steal... The crimes I commit. As much as I hate it that is apart of me that is so hard to hide. I could never have that with anyone else but you... I have to say it. I love you. I really do. I love you and want to give you this note and this ring for the day I can finally call you mine, that is if you’ll have me because I certainly want to be yours.

The note had turned yellow after all these years, and some tears and holes had made their way into the delicate paper. The ring he gave you chimed inside the locket, ringing out slightly at each step you took. The sun was finally setting below the hills. You had made it in time to the familiar open cliffside.

It hurt. It hurt a lot and no matter how many times you looked at it, it was like the pain was as fresh and as new as the day it happened. Your old body had was crying out in pain from such a long walk with no rest at all. You were old enough to be someone grandma. Maybe even a great grandma. You were young and healthy anymore, your old and dying at your own pace. You wished it came a little sooner as you stared at the cross that marked the grave of the man you always loved. His grave was overrun with flowers, and lilacs of course, that you planted there yourself some odd decade ago.

“Hello, my darling,” You spoke quietly as you got down on your knees only a few inches away from his grave. You pressed a hand into the old aging wood, feeling the smoothness that weathering has caused. You missed him. So much, so fucking much. It hurt every second to be there.

He would have loved this spot, Charles did a good job of that. You fought back the tears and smiled, “Happy anniversary, Arthur,” You quickly wipped away a tear before it could fall, “I hope you’re doing well,” You reached for the chain of the locket, pulling it off your neck. You opened it up, the ring and note fell into your lap. You picked up the ring and put the note back where it belonged.

“I’ve been holding onto this god damn ring for so long,” This wasn’t the ring he gave you that night in the desert. That ring was snug on your finger. The one you held now was Arthur’s matching wedding band to yours. You coughed a few times, feeling the sharp shooting pain cut open your lungs, “God damn you, Arthur. I loved you, I still love you. I wish it didn’t have to be this way.”

You knew damn well that this was going to be your last visit to Arthur, this going to be your last anything.

Your voice cracked while speaking to the grave, “You got me sick,” You whispered while place his wedding band into the dirt at the base of the cross, “I’m dying...” It felt so strange to finally admit it out loud, “I’m dying and I’m scared.”

Trying your best, you made your old body comfortable on the hard ground. You could remember that perfect day were you and Arthur eloped and certainly ran away for a month. Funny, because Arthur always gave John a hard time for leaving for so long. Maybe because you were married by the time John was old enough to ride a horse. You guys came back, eventually, you called that month away, a honeymoon and it was very nice, perfect even. A whole month camping out in a rental cabin, with just Arthur and no one else. You wished you could go back.

Speaking off, “I haven’t seen anyone, no one... in years. I don’t think John or Abigal is alive anymore... I... I tried reaching out. To Sadie too. And Marybeth. No one. No one is left. I know Dutch is dead... John told me about that. He killed em, Bill and Javier. I don’t know where Charles is... I don’t... I...” You felt a hot wave of pain and tears wash over you. You started to sob, feeling utterly and truly alone, “What do I do, Arthur? I can’t keep fighting this fight. I don’t want to die, but don’t want to alone anymore,” You wheezed pretty bad, trying to catch your breath between sobs, “I miss you. What should I do? I... I don’t know what to do without you. I’ve spent all these years living alone, get old and dying. Please tell me I get to see you again,”

It felt like someone was cutting out your heart and throwing it into the dirt. The pain was heavy, it weighed you down, creating a void that couldn’t be filled. You came here with this bad, a little tent and some food, but you came here to say goodbye. To die. Every since Arthur died, all you wanted was to have him back. But no one can change the nature of death, and no one knew Arthur or who he was anymore. You couldn’t stand the idea of being buried in a mass grave or even buried away from Arthur. You were dying, and you had die here.

As morbid as it was, this was your final wish. You had such a ahrd time breath, suffocating on your own tears. You took your wedding band off your finger and pressed it into the dirt beside Arthur’s wedding band. You took of the locket and hung it off his cross, watching it sway back and forth.

This was it, wasn’t it? The end of the road. You hoped that this wouldn’t hurt. You hoped this was the answer you were looking for. Part of you knew that it wasn’t, and most of you knew you were doing this because you just couldn’t keep going. You wanted to die on your own terms, not at the hands of fate or disease.

You laid down beside his grave, staring at the darkness of the approching night sky. A few stars had made there way out. You held tightly to the gun you got your backpack, thinking over and over again if this was right. It didn’t feel right, but your soul craved release. This was awful. Life was awful and unfair.

You closed your eyes and took in a deep breath, begging, hoping, praying that you’d see Arthur again. So that who every finds you burries you beside your long dead husband. You were scared, crying, and unsure, but you came so far and you weren’t healthy enough to take the trip back. You’d rather chose this than starver to death up here, or let this cruel disease steal your last breath.

You closed your eyes, and pulled the trigger.

Why is Stephon Gilmore a Patriot?

When the New England Patriots opened NFL free agency last March by signing Stephon Gilmore to a whopping 65 million dollar contract I imagine most Patriots fans reacted with some variation of the following, “Uh Gilmore…...um, OK…...uh, plays for the Bills right……..yeah he’s solid I guess…..don’t remember him much….”. This was the classic “In Bill We Trust” signing. A guy that was hundreds of miles off anybody’s radar, didn’t exactly make a big splash in the AFC East and played a position, corner, where they already had an elite player. In short, the signing made little sense and on the “Un-Patriot-like Scale” was the free agent equivalent of the Patriots recording their own version of the ‘Super Bowl Shuffle’. Now, after an embarrassing 33-30 home loss to the Carolina Panthers, a loss where Gilmore was exceptionally awful, it’s time to push “In Bill We Trust” aside and start asking “What the hell was Bill thinking?”

The defense has been bad all year but Sunday was particularly ugly. The Panthers offense stumbled into Foxboro having scored just 22 points in their last two games, including a putrid 13 point performance at home against the Saints. They put up 33 on the Patriots despite fumbling inside the 10-yard-line. Entering Sunday Carolina had not thrown for more than 180 yards all year. On Sunday they lit up New England for over 300 yards passing. Cam Newton walked into Gillette a broken quarterback in a prolonged funk: He embarrassed himself in the Super Bowl against the Broncos, followed that up with the worst year of his career in 2016 and entered Sunday’s game with a QB rating of 69.7. Newton may have walked in a broken man but he left with MVP swagger - shoulders back, chest puffed out and a 130.8 QB rating in his back pocket.

The Patriots defense has become like a therapy dog for NFL quarterbacks. Dink-and-dunk Alex Smith entered his Patriots game needing to fend off a high rookie draft pick and establish the Kansas City Chiefs as a contender, well Alex, how does 368 yards and a 148.6 QB rating grab you. Deshaun Watson entered his Patriots contest a struggling and confused rookie but left with confidence and clarity after putting up 342 yards of total offense. And now the rebirth of Newton.

Most disappointing is that the biggest culprit in this defensive mess is New England’s secondary - a much-hyped unit laced with talent and experience, that has been abysmal most of the season. The Patriots pass defense ranks dead last in the NFL, allowing 324 yards per game. The second worst team is the Eagles at 285 yards per game. That’s a big gap. Which brings us back to Gilmore.

While everybody has struggled on some level in the secondary, Gilmore has been at the center of the mess, and Sunday he was a one-man wrecking crew of incompetence. It’s not so much that he can’t cover as much as it is that he apparently doesn’t even know who to cover. Whether it’s a late first half TD to a wide-open Devin Funchess or a Fozzy Whittaker touchdown where, not one, but two Panthers were left wide-open, it seems all it takes is the slightest motion or misdirection to turn Gilmore into a befuddled pile of goop. And yes, I know, technically we don’t know what coverage they were in or who had what receiver but is it some wild coincidence that Gilmore seems to be involved in all of these plays. Is there any doubt now that Tyreek Hill’s deep ball on the Patriots week 1 was Gilmore’s fault and not McCourty’s?

It probably isn’t helping the situation that New England’s secondary is communicating with each other about as well as the Democrats and Republicans, and certainly the entire unit, along with the coaches, need to shoulder the blame for that. But it’s funny, I don’t seem to recall any problems with the secondary communicating before this year. Hmmm, what has changed in the last year? If only I could put my finger on it.

Clearly, opposing teams have put their finger on it. Sunday it looked like Carolina was using its receivers to play three-card Monty with the Patriots defensive backs.

Of course communication wasn’t the only problem that plagued Gilmore on Sunday. Twice he was flagged for illegal hands to the face on 3rd and long to extend Carolina drives that led to scores. The first penalty was simply a horrendous call as Gilmore’s fingertips barely grazed the lower part of Kelvin Benjamin’s facemask. The second penalty was all Gilmore, and it was as costly as they come.

Despite a wretched game New England’s defense actually showed a spark late in the 2nd half and it looked as if they had stopped Carolina with sacks on back-to-back 3 and outs. It appeared that Brady, who had brought the team back from 14 down with consecutive touchdown drives, was going to get a shot to score for a third consecutive time and win the game. All was going to be right with the world. Then Gilmore, after having just been called for it, jams Carolina receiver Devin Funchess right in the mug. Penalty. Sack nullified. First down. Eight plays later the Panthers put Gilmore and the defense out of their misery with a game-winning field goal.

It’s not as if Funchess is some Wes Welker runt where you are almost forced to jam him near his face, the guy stands 6’5”. It was an inexcusable and baffling mistake from a Patriots player that is looking more and more like an inexcusable and baffling signing. Gilmore didn’t exactly instill confidence when he was asked about the penalty, “I was playing aggressive, I don’t know what else I can do.” Really? You’ve been in this league for 6 years and you don’t know how to prevent a penalty. Here’s an idea, stop doing stuff that is against the rules. And definitely stop doing stuff that is against the rules at really, really key moments in the game. At the very least, stop getting caught.

“I don’t know what else I can do?” Not exactly the cerebral answer you might expect from a Belichick coached player. Which begs the question, why is Stephon Gilmore here? What did Belichick see in this inconsistent and expensive cornerback from a franchise that has spent the last 15 years rotting away in the NFL’s basement? Why is this the guy Belichick chose to break the bank for?

For starters, it’s not exactly the Patriot way to make any big splash in free agency, much less on day one. Free agency has always been a bit of fool’s gold, wrought with big risks and expensive payouts, and the Belichick era has been no exception. Only twice since 2001 has New England delved into the world of high-priced free agency and both times the results were less than spectacular: LB Rosevelt Colvin in 2003 and LB Adalius Thomas in 2007. Both players had their moments but in the end came up way short of expectations and were eventually released. If twice in your life you go on an expensive cruise, and both times you get sick, then you’re probably not booking a third cruise. But after 10 years of staying away Belichick was sucked back into the unlimited buffets and awkward magic shows of the open seas, convincing himself that he had packed enough dramamine and this time would be different. So far it’s been different alright, it’s been much worse.

The entire mind set and process behind the signing of Gilmore was such a break from the normal way of doing business down at Foxboro. The Patriots are supposed to be the patient and methodical ones. The team that rarely trades up in the draft, and gladly trades down for picks in future years. The team that never overpays for its own players, and welcomes them to test the market. The team that calmly sits back when free agency opens, while all the desperate franchises trample all over each other like it’s midnight on black Friday, so they can throw away 100 million on the next Ndamukong Suh. Not New England, they are smart shoppers. The team that lies in the weeds waiting to pounce on the next bargain.

Until now.

The Gilmore signing always had that whiff of desperation normally reserved for the other guys. The Patriots didn’t even have him in for a visit. No formal meeting to kick the tires and look him in the eye in the hope of getting some sense of what the player was all about. No chance for Belichick to put him thru any of those mental tests he uses on potential draft picks. No opportunity to find out if the loser mentality of the Buffalo Bills had seeped permanently into his DNA. If they had a face-to-face maybe they could have asked him about that deep touchdown Chris Hogan caught against the Bills last year in Buffalo. It was a play that was broken down expertly by Erik Turner of USA Today and, as Parcells used to say, the play had more red flags than May Day in Moscow.

For starters it looks like yet another blown coverage that involved Gilmore and a big play - are you starting to see a pattern here? Then, after Hogan makes the catch Gilmore bypasses an opportunity to make a tackle on Hogan so he can instead turn and yell at one of his teammates. Even if the touchdown wasn’t his fault what NFL player does that in the middle of a play? And this was during a Patriots game. Belichick saw this first hand and still didn’t hesitate to whip out Kraft’s checkbook???

And this only gets worse.

Turner reported that Gilmore reacted that way “several times” that year, inexcusable even if Gilmore was in the correct coverage every time. But guess what, he wasn’t, at least not on the Hogan touchdown. After the game then head coach Rex Ryan confirmed that it was Gilmore that had blown the coverage. So for those of you keeping score at home, Gilmore blew a coverage, cost his team a crucial 53-yard touchdown, and even though it was his fault, gave up on the play so he could openly bitch out a teammate for his own mistake. Is there anything in that sentence that sounds remotely Patriot-like?

Turner adds this nugget about Gilmore’s play overall, “He has been beaten by opposing wide receivers, but that happens to every cornerback. What’s more concerning is his apparent selfish play and his attitude towards his teammates in a contract year.” Yikes. Again, does this sound like the type of guy you break 10 years of free agent discipline for? And don’t gloss over the “beaten by opposing receivers” part of the quote. In 2016 Gilmore was one of the lowest rated corners according to Pro Football Focus, with a grade of 73.2. To put that in perspective he barely finished ahead of Sterling Moore, yeah THAT Sterling Moore, who came in with a grade of 72.3.

Isn’t that the opposite of what Belichick normally does? Belichick’s the guy that lands the player with the high ranking for the low dollars, not the other way around. Belichick’s free agent M.O. is to find the undervalued guys from winning programs like Rodney Harrison and Mike Vrabel, not overpay for defensive backs from loser franchises that can’t even perform in a contract year. But maybe I shouldn’t be so harsh on the Bills who currently have the number one scoring defense in the NFL and just won at Atlanta by holding their high-powered offense to 17 points. I have no idea if this will hold up, but if it does, what does it say about Gilmore that he leaves and the defense gets better? Or that he shows up on the number one scoring defense last year and thru four games they are ranked 31st. I call this the A-Rod effect. It’s when a team seemingly improves whenever a certain player leaves and when the new team regresses after that same player arrives. The sample size as yet is too small but it is something to keep an eye on.

The worst part of this entire Gilmore saga is the Malcolm Butler sub-plot. At least when Belichick signed Colvin and Thomas he didn’t step over high-performing linebackers on his own roster to do it. If the Gilmore signing is puzzling, the treatment of Butler is utterly baffling.

Since arriving in New England as an undrafted free agent Butler has done virtually everything right. By all accounts he works hard, plays hard, keeps his nose clean off the field and in case you missed it, has a penchant for making big plays when the spotlight is brightest. He is a Pro Bowler that has excelled in the Patriots system and played a key role on teams that have done nothing but win. He is a coach’s dream yet here he is making less than 4 million while his struggling counterpart makes 13 million. The entire situation is confounding. It’s easy to understand in a salary cap league why guys like Belichick take an excessively frugal approach to team building, but if you’re going to occasionally open the vault don’t you do it for a high-performer on your own roster and not some outside question mark?

It’s still far too early to close the book on the Gilmore signing but what if this thing keeps trending bad? Worse yet, what if Butler is gone at the end of the year? Where will the Patriots be then? And for those of you that think New England can just press the eject button on the Gilmore experiment and give his money to Butler, think again. Gilmore’s guaranteed money based on performance (not injury) is 31 million, meaning there is zero chance he gets cut after this year. If he did, the cap hit for next year would be roughly 23 million for a player that wouldn’t even be on your roster. That ain’t happening. Even if he is cut after 2018 the cap hit would still be around 11 million in 2019. Like it or not, Gilmore is here for the foreseeable future. But the question Patriots fans are asking today is less about his future and more about his past: Why is Stephon Gilmore a Patriot?

***** The first wall was raised for the old Conklin’s barn dinner theatre in Goodfield, Illinois. After a struggle to raise money after the old barn was destroyed and a fight with the insurance company, the day has finally come. The new structure which is part of a whole new complex will open in 2019. I can’t wait!!!

***** A personal note: I heard a comedian the other day talking about jerks in all parts of our lives. Whether it be church, work, school, concerts, an AA meeting or whatever there is always an asshole in the mix to ruin stuff. This really resonated with me because I have seen a situation lately that perfectly illustrates this. A local store has a department with 3 managers. Manager #1 keeps hiring in his friends that mostly create their own schedules and do not often break a sweat. Manager #2 has been there a while and things run pretty smooth and fair when they run the day. Manager #3 is new to the position and often seems like they do not know what the fuck is going on and it was recently learned that this one has been backstabbing #2 so much that # 2 was fired. Now, we can’t know, of course, the reason for the firing but it just shows that a perfectly nice place to work and shop with a company one can believe in can go all wrong because of one or two bad apples. Manager #2 who is also battling illness (so does not often have the strength to fight back) has lost a career and many employees who respect them are now stuck working with people they know will run the place into the ground or having to find another job. I have seen a few similar situations thru the years and of course, asshole in chief in D.C. is like the all time perfect example of this but why can’t we weed out the jerks?

Let Will and Sonny have each other and find a better match for Paul but don’t let him go. I mean Sonny treats Paul like he isn’t even in the room half the time and they were going to marry?! Will she have a baby for Eric? Olivia Rose Keegar (Claire) has released a single titled ‘Just my type.’** Are they really gonna do a Ben and Ciara thing?** Sephen Nichols (Patch) is out as well as Greg Rikkaart (Leo). Farah Fath (Mimi Lockhart) is back. Sheila, Shawn and Belle will show up soon. Kyle Lowder who used to play Brady will return as another character. There is a rumor that Allison Sweeney (Sami) will swing in for a bit and will she be pregnant with Rafe’s baby? I am betting so since Hope just mentioned something about Raif not having any kids.

Tony Shalhoub, Laurie Metcalf and Andrew Garfield also took home awards. The most beautiful moment was from the students of Stoneman Douglas and their teacher who was honored.** A Trump supporter went to A Bronx tale: The musical after the DeNiro incident which is codirected by Mr. D. The supporter held up a Trump 2020 sign. My son chuckled, “At least he bought a ticket.”

I can’t help but think of our ‘well meaning’ Christian folk trying to convert the Native Americans back in the day. They tried hard to make the natives dress like the white man, pray like the white man and go to our schools. As well as leverage for scary clown’s wall, are they trying to fill these children’s heads with their own propaganda while they are in foster care or residing in the white man’s warehouse? **When will the loyalists realize that a wall cannot be built? Happy Mother’s Day—Sunday Chats (5-14-17)

Happy mother’s day everyone! Let’s chat.

Thanking Mom

Firstly, I know I am very fortunate to have a mother still with me that loves and supports me, whom I have a great relationship with despite our differences, and who is all around an amazing and great human. I know this makes me very lucky. She has been there through thick and thin, and still supports me in what I want to do and how I live to this day. She lives in Florida, which is pretty far from Maryland, but she comes up here every other month or so for work, so I do get to see her semi-frequent. Including last Sunday! See, picture:

It’s that time of year again where I remind everyone that hey: my mom is probably the reason I am so into video games. This is the first freelance article I ever wrote, and the first thing I ever got paid to write:

I used to play more 2D stuff on my own, like A Link to the Past or Pokémon, and I’d usually get away with skipping all the dialogue and just playing. It may surprise some of you, but I was very bad at reading when I was younger, and this also may surprise none of you. I had essentially a remedial reading regiment when I was growing up, and while I still am not a huge fan of reading books themselves, I love reading now, partly because its hand in hand with writing.

With the jump to 3D games, it was pretty difficult to get through major investments like Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina of Time, games my two older brothers were into and I desperately wanted to be into, but couldn’t because of my difficulty reading and following what to do next. In came my mom, who worked as both my filter and my Official Mom Narrator. She would play and read what was happening, while I would memorize maps, abilities, and give out strategies so that we could get through the tougher parts. Keep in mind I was born in 93, so when these games were big, I was five and six years old, so while something definitely explicit like FF7 would be a challenge for me, it’d be hard regardless to just keep up with.

But that didn’t stop her. Even the last year, hearing how in love my Mom is with the Nintendo Switch and Zelda Breath of the Wild, and hearing how, of course, she is playing that game totally differently than anyone else I’ve talked to, focusing on exploring and chatting with characters, she inspires me to keep playing games and keep telling their stories, because hey: they might surprise you.

Happy mother’s day mom. I may not be close, I may not be able to afford a bunch of flowers to send you, but I am forever grateful for everything you’ve given me and the kindness you continually inspire me to bring and share with everyone I meet. <3

Gaming with Friends Again

This last week I sat down and played some online games with friends for the first time in actual forever. The last time was Overwatch with friends late last year, and while I’ve been enjoying my time in single player land, it was so much goddamn fun good lord.

Last night Nato Johnston, who is a lovely Australian fucker™, got together after the recording of Irrational Passions Podcast 328 to play a bunch of Mario Kart 8 online. Eventually Barrett Courtney, his girlfriend Alyssa, Max Roberts, Moises Taveras, Trevor Starkey, and Shaun Donahue would join us for intermittent rounds as well, and good lord was it a blast. We set up a quick Discord (something I’ve never done) and got to playing.

I hesitantly bought Mario Kart 8 on Friday because I knew I’d be pretty left out if I didn’t have it for Kinda Funny Live 3 this coming June, but this night alone completely justified the purchase. It was about three and a half hours of battle mode, races, some crazy Mirror and 200cc thrown in there, and it was just a complete joy. I got heated, said some ridiculous shit, Nato laughed so hard he cried at one point, and it was easily some of the most fun I have ever had playing a video game.

It brought about a few things. I mean, earlier that day me and the podcast crew got together to play some, and that was already a blast, but I’ve gathered around so many amazing and talented friends from podcasts all over the world, and how fun and enjoyable all of their company is.

I am very lucky, and it was nice to get a little reminder to just how fun it is to play games with friends is. Also: that new Battle Mode in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? It’s fuckin’ great.

5/7 - Sunday Chats

5/8 thru 5/13 - Brand New Secret Project

So I mentioned on Twitter that I had an idea for a new thing that I am very, very excited about, but it is very much in its primordial stages. I just started writing it out this past week, and I feel like it will be the majority of what I am working on going forward. Which once again makes this section of Sunday Chats a little useless, kind of how it became when all I was working on was Alex Talks episodes.

I really don’t want to say too much about the project, one because it will be a massive undertaking, and two because I have literally only told one person. I’ll give a couple hints though, because I can’t resist. It is technically TWO ideas, and they are video-based. It relates to a thing I said I was looking into semi-recently, and that should be a big hint for some, and they lean very specifically into me and my interests. It’s a show that just makes too much sense for me not to make, and I don’t think anyone out there is quite doing this same thing, at least not in the way I am planning it.

I’m excited, and I can’t wait to say more, but I’m expecting the earliest date for this to be announced to be August. Probably later. But I’ll say this: finally everything is starting to come together.

What’s on Tap

Persona 5

My emotions with Persona 5 are so complicated.

Like I’ve said in the past, maybe part of me is disappointed by it? But that’s really not the right word. It’s better than I expected, I love it more than I hoped, but it didn’t topple Persona 4, or at least hasn’t for me yet, then again what can, so how can I be disappointed? It’s very complex

But I’ll say this, going back through it, I just appreciate everything so much more. The little touches, the dialogue, the loving care the developers took to make it.

It’s assuredly my game of the year. Which is nuts. I tend to lean toward the thing that’s new for me, but which is unquestionably Zelda, but Persona 5 just does what it does so goddamn well.

I think I need to rewrite a lot of my critique of it, which is partly why that hasn’t gone up yet, so when I edit that, hopefully this week, people will be able to read it.

I love this game, and it is my favorite game I have played all year. Concerns and slight disappointment aside, that is for sure not in doubt.

Mario Kart 8:

I was very hesitant to by this, but see above, I haven’t regretted it.

It’s also great to just see how fucking good Mario Kart 8 is again. And honestly, the double item stuff goes such a long way to balance things out and make the rubber banding seem less-so, that I really love it.

GREAT GAME IS STILL GREAT

Nier

No, not that new Nier, the OLD Nier.

Yeah don’t ask me why I started playing this. Justin Graffius lent it to me, and I’ve just started it today, and now I’m hooked.

It’s Mother’s Day, how is it NOT lit??

Dude like, that new Street Fighter 2 package is such bullshit right? Evil Ryu is pretty cool in Street Fighter 4, I’ll say that. I really like playing Akuma, because he is very aggressive. He’s no Abel, but hey, he is pretty fun to play and he was the first character I got not terrible with. Evil Ryu is rad because he is kind of like Akuma, with a bit more balanced aggression than Akuma for me, and not as low health.

But fuck this Violent Ken stuff. And fuck charging anything more than 20 dollars for that Switch version of that game from 1991.

This is a good one. For me, the one where you climb Mount Lanayru was absolutely my favorite. Early on when I was playing Zelda I tweeted about doing something that was the craziest thing I had done in an open world game, and I was talking about this. Since it’s been a couple months since it came out, I don’t feel bad talking about it now.

There is just a rumor in town about Zelda once visiting the spring that is somewhere on Mt Lanayru. It’s been so long that no one even really knows where the spring is, and it’s so cold and dangerous to go up there that no one has done it. The first time I climbed the mount I just climbed up the side of it, and saw the giant dragon resting at the top. I got thrown off and died, and had to start again.

The second time I climbed up, I took the “beaten path” so to speak, which is this super great, set-piece like path, where I saw my first Lynel and had to run from it, fought off wolves, summoned Wolf Link, and fought tooth and nail against monsters to the top of the mountain. It was amazing and felt like my own little story, and none of this was brought on by any formal quest in my quest log, it was just something that I wanted to do.

When you get to the top, you see the giant dragon Naydra resting, injured by calamity, at the top. Then you do this massive scale fight, sort of, where you shoot the calamity on the dragon across the Lanayru Mountain Range, and it just amazing with its sense of scale and scope. It was massive, and also small at the same time. I remember when I got to PAX East and got to chat with Greg Miller about the game, this was the thing I had to just gush about to someone whom I knew may have seen it.

It’s absolutely still one of my favorite moments, and the reward is a Shrine quest that leads to a Shrine hidden behind the Nayru Spring.

This is a good question too, so don’t sweat it!

I am a little bias to Toriel, who is the dog-mom you meet at the beginning of Undertale. She is so sweet and wonderful. She is the dog mom to end all dog moms, and I love her.

Outside of that, I can’t really think of many. I feel like there has definitely been a dadification of video game relationships, so maybe that’s why not a lot of great video game moms are coming to mind. I have one, that’s a bit of a cop out, but The Boss from Metal Gear Solid 3, who acts as a sort of mother/mentor/lover figure to Big Boss, and also Boss from Metal Gear Solid 4, who is technically Solid Snake’s mother, and she is also badass, even though she more so inherits the Boss’s appearance and characteristics.

Double up question, so I paired these together.

This is very, very hard. My mom and I have had very rad moments, and we’ve also had our downs as well.

Obviously playing Final Fantasy VII with my mom is a big one, since I got to write about it and everything.

A recent one was figuring out how to do SharePlay, that great PS+ feature where you can control someone else’s game briefly, and I used it to help my mom get through a difficult section in Uncharted 4. Or so she believed, to her chagrin, it was more that you had to click in the right analogue stick and she wasn’t sure what the “R3″ button was. To her credit, she did get through the entirety of every other part of that game with my help, but that was just a recent favorite moment.

She is also really great at giving life advice. Even at this most recent dinner we had last Sunday, she definitely related and understood to a recent situation I am going through, and gave me some great advice. But those moments come pretty fast and frequent when you have an awesome mom.

Okay, so one: context, when we were playing battle mode last night, the villager (COM) kept hitting me with fireballs and green shells in Mario Kart, and I MAY HAVE angrily and jokingly said I was going to cut off his face and wear it because when I get pissed i say absurd terrible things to make me laugh, and Nato and Barrett just wouldn’t fucking let it go.

Listen, I get it, this doesn’t sound good, but it was very funny if you were in the Discord.

And here we are. Never gonna live that one down.

AND TO BE FAIR Barrett at some point said he was going to feed Dry Bones Bowser a bunch of dicks, and we ALL kept saying that we were gunning for each other’s bootys when we were racing each other.

So shit gets real, and real explicit in Mario Kart.

Please god just let me live this down.

Hrm, I feel like I’m not the best to ask since I don’t have a ton of Manga under my belt. The only ones I have read art some of Inuyasha and pretty much all of Naruto, except for the war arch in the middle, which I skipped most of to get to the end to see how it ended. Either way, those are both great, in my humble opinion.

As for shows, my favorite anime is Sword Art Online. Full of terrible, terrible flaws, but is easily my favorite show for what it gets right, for the beautiful love story at its center, and for the way it is paced.

I adore Your Lie in April, and that’s another romantic-ish one. And fair warning, it’ll fucking destroy you. It’s an amazingly somber story about music and what it means to the human heart and the human condition, and it is very, very sad. But it earns it. It does it well.

Golden Time has a ton of problems and can be super frustrating, but it’s a really sweet love story and it’s about college kids instead of high school kids, which is really interesting. It’s the first and currently only anime I have watched about Japanese college kids, so I’d recommend it for that, it’s humor, and the adorable feels it gives you.

A general rule of thumb is if you haven’t watched Ouran High School Host Club, you absolutely need to. Added bonus is the Manga continues on way farther than the 1-season show, and it follows the high school kids through graduation. I haven’t read it, but it’s an easy recommendation.

And to round out my five, Waiting in the Summer is a great summer anime, it’s a great love story, and it’s just fun and wacky. It’s got the drama, it’s absolutely beautifully drawn, and it’s worth a watch too. I loved it, and it’s probably my third favorite anime of all time.

Honestly, and it’s weird because I just did it in March, but travel again. I guess going to PAX East, as fun as it is, is still more work than it is pleasure. It doesn't help that this past PAX East was very stressful for absurd reasons I won't get into here, but the overall trip didn’t end up being that enjoyable, even if I did have a great time through most of it

So this upcoming trip to San Francisco I am hoping to have a great time with. I just hope I can actually have a little bit of money to have on that trip, because right now I’ll barely be able to afford food.

So all expenses paid? Go somewhere and spend time with someone I care about. That’s something i just very much want to do right now.

YES. I don’t want to frighten anyone, but I feel like Harmonix has been trying a lot of new stuff lately, and none of it has been working. I am genuinely very concerned for their future.

I can’t imagine that company staying the way it is for much longer. It’s a terrible shame, because just 8 or 9 years ago, that company was literally on top of the video games industry.

I tried this once. It wasn’t that cold. My tongue did not get stuck. Though I found out that can actually happen and have been waaaay too terrified to do it since. Which is probably for the best.

There is love love, and then there is familial or friend love.

The latter I know isn’t like the former, but I don’t know if I’ve ever really experience true, unadulterated love. For me, familial love is more a sense of comfort. The feeling that no matter what, this is here. It doesn’t break for anyone, but it does bend and change. And it can just go away.

I think, personally, believing you can’t fall out of love is ignorant. Whether it’s one kind or the other, people change, and the relationships and bonds with them change too. I think the ones where the people change and grow, and then the bond and sense of familiarity with that person grows and becomes stronger, those are the keepers. When that intimacy and comfort with someone grows and grows, those are the kinds of bonds that you want to work to hold on to. But there have been people in my life where they just change and honest to god, I have not wanted to work to hold onto that person in my life.

I have had people in my life where I thought I felt true, absolute love for, and I was wrong. And I don’t even consider those people a friend anymore. I think that’s okay. I have many friends, and I’d rather spend the time nurturing those relationships where we both put in and get something out than the ones where I don’t.

Justin McElroy put it really well once, saying that in Marriage, he find the most success thinking of it as 60/40. If you both think of it that way, if you both put in just a little more than you feel you need to, then it’s a lot easier. To feel you need to put in more work than just an even half, then you both always go the extra mile.

I am so, so, so unbelievably lucky. Lucky to have the love I get in my life. But I still have some hesitation with saying to any person that I love them. Whether in one way or another. Sometimes its even hard with my closest friends, and it sucks because I know those people deserve and crave that kind of sentiment, but it’s hard for me, you know? It’s really hard for me to show that vulnerability and affection, but I really, really try, for the people I care about.

So I guess if you’re one of the folks I say I love you too, whether as a friend or not, know that I really mean it, or at least, in my head I am trying my best to, and to deserve your love in return, which I don’t always think I do.

Hopefully someday I will be able to feel that kind of love love that everyone is so obsessed with finding out there. And hopefully I’ll deserve, and not take it for granted.

NOW THIS IS A QUESTION TO GO OUT ON.

Uh.. Uhh... They’re all so good.

So uh, first, SHOUTOUT TO MOO MOO MEADOWS. That shit is great.

I really, REALLY love the design and look of most of the levels. Like the Big Blue in MK8 is pretty incredible. My favorite track, overall, is probably Dolphin Shoals, honestly. Like, it may just be for the music alone, which has the best music of almost any track in the game, but it’s also colorful, jolly as all hell, and just a fun race.

Least favorite? I dunno. One of the more simple courses, like the GBA Mario Circuit, or Donut Plains, just because they aren’t super memorable like the rest of the courses.

Shoutout to moms! It’s a completely thankless job, and there, and some people truly pour their heart and souls into it. There is no better time than mother’s day to thank your mom.

I understand not all mothers are great or actually help their children, but I’ve been lucky in my life to have one that’s always supported me, so thank you for that.

This info was recently discovered in some e mails. Chris Hayes observed: ‘Incredible irony that not a single Clinton/Podesta e mail was as incriminating as the 2 Trump campaign e mails we’ve seen.** There was total denial from the campaign about a key player , Felix Sater. He has cards that read Felix Sater: Senior advisor to Donald Trump.

*****Scary Clown was going to pardon Sheriff Joe Arpio then the WH said he wouldn’t but at his campaign rally he said he would but didn’t. The two became close over the birther issue. Arpio seems to have spent big money researching the issue. A correspondent watched the Sheriff get quite upset when Trump did not call him on his birthday. The Arizona Sheriff stood for dehumanization and an estimated 160 people died in what Arpio called concentration camps. He put criminals in the desert, in a tent city and made them wear pink underwear. He was found in criminal contempt of court when he defied a court order not to enforce the travel ban. His racial profiling is legendary. Trump and or his staff seemed to wait for the opportune time to actually pardon the man. Hurricane Harvey was bearing down on Texas and without following the guidelines , Trump gave his friend and supporter the pardon. But it isn’t quite as it seems. Trump did not want to bury the story in the Texas news, he claims that he wanted to make it public then because everybody would be watching the news about the catastrophe and his announcement would get good ratings. Technically, accepting a pardon is an admission of guilt and can be used in civil suits. But you should seriously look up the long list of garbage this guy did. There has been $142 million spent on legal fees, settlements and compliance costs because of him that almost bankrupt his county.** As far as the rally goes, the crowd waited so long they were tired and started to leave early. Bottled water was confiscated at the door and some were becoming dehydrated. Many mentioned a man that was standing behind Trump who calls himself Michael the Black man, a radical fringe activist. The man has been a Trump follower for some time. He is a former member of the Yahwen Ben Yahwen cult, known as a violent black supremacist religious cult. He reformed himself and is known in some circles as the poor man’s Alex Jones and abhors homosexuality. Michael AKA Maurice Woodside calls Oprah ‘the devil’ and calls himself an anti-democrat. He has been acquitted of 2 murders, racketeering, conspiracy and firebombing. ** The Pres also chose the category 4 hurricane as a good time to go thru with his tweet threat and ban the Trans community from the military. He is basically undoing LBJ’s entire civil rights package. The ACLU is suing over the military ban on behalf of 6 individuals who are currently serving. Defense secretary Mattis has established a panel to review the Transgender troops and has frozen the ban. There sure seems to be a lot of extra work going on for nothing, we have a huge crisis on our hands. *****Another word on Hurricane Harvey: The pictures are shocking ,the people helping are so wonderful and I hope they all find some peace and safety. Ted Cruz voted against aid for hurricane Sandy but is now asking for assistance for Harvey. ** Joel Osteen is coming under scrutiny for telling Texas that his Lakewood church in Houston is inaccessible. The religious leader who is worth an estimated 56 mil announced he would let Hurricane victims in when the other centers reach their capacity. There were already twice as many people as the convention center allows. The reporter in front of the church showed there was some flooding but people could certainly get there! Lakewood can house 3 times the capacity of the current center taking in victims. Once the Toyota center also opened, the church was open but Osteen claims the doors were never closed. Things like this show the true colors of humans. After all the division, these things happen and show us how alike we are. Were any of the victims KKK members and were they helped by someone whose skin was a different color? Were any of the victims immigrants and were they helped by a white nationalist?
