A big day for Wild Orchard Hatchery!
Wild Orchard Lore: Arc 1, Arcane Nightmares, Chapter 1
The Obelisk and Fathom half landed, half fell through the underbrush, winded and stumbling.
"Are we close?" the Obelisk panted.
The Fathom nodded. "There's definitely a strong source of magic near by."
"You still think it's strong enough to get this thing off our backs?"
"I think so. We'd better hope so, it's getting close."
The Obelisk nodded, helped the Fathom untangle a leg from a vine he'd become snared in, and the two of them struggled on.
Towards the Orchard that they didn't know was there.
-----
Cirrus checked her speed before entering the clearing up ahead. It felt disrespectful to just go crashing right up to your clan matriarch's nose as if it was nothing. She took a moment to catch her breath- a messanger who can't talk is no use- before approaching the Guardian sitting in the leaf litter between the massive trees.
"Dusk, I'm sorry to bother you, but important news," she announced. Dusk turned her head, and Cirrus imagined that she could hear the creak of wood like a tree groaning under a strong wind.
"Go ahead."
"Vera and Rosa both agree that they can sense something big coming this way. It's not close yet, but it's on the edge of their senses, and it's not going away."
Dusk rumbled and stood up slowly. "I'll come closer to the orchard in case I'm needed at home. Make sure Brocade is warned too, if you can find him." She stopped and chuffed a laugh. "What am I saying. You can find him."
"I'll make sure he's ready to go to work."
-----
Chittam flared his wings as full length as the trees and vines around would allow, bracing himself in the path of the two dragons that were rushing his way. They skidded to a stop when they saw him and one fell over, from exhaustion by the look of it. Chittam mentally switched gears from 'stop the intruders' to 'help the travelers' and lowered his wings.
"You're in Wild Orchard territory," he called out to them. "Do you need help?"
"Territory… what?" the dazed Fathom said as he strugled back to his feet. "You don't mean there's dragons living in this area."
"Quite near by, yes."
"There's some kind of terrible magic contamination near here! It's too dangerous!"
"We know about it," Chittam said guardedly. "We have it managed."
The Fathom and Obelisk exchanged openly terrified looks.
The Obelisk spoke next. "There's something dangerous chasing us. We led it to the magic here because we thought it would be deserted."
Chittam swore softly. "You should come back with me and tell our people what you can before whatever it is gets here."
"You don't understand," the Obelisk insisted. "You need to evacuate."
"We don't evacuate the Orchard. We defend it, or we die in it. I'm happy to take you with me to a safe place where you can rest, or to let you go onward, but I have to go report this in right away so we can prepare."
-----
"So you're why our Arcane girls have been having nightmares," Salica said, checking his newly arrived guests over and applying smears of salve to the scratches and cuts they'd gained from charging heedless through the Labyrinth.
"Nightmares?" the Obelisk, a lady named Tisana, asked.
Salica nodded. "Whatever you've led here has enough of an aura to set their sense off. They've been having terrible nightmares for days."
"So let me make sure I have this right," Chittam asked from off to the side. "You don't know what it is, you just know it's hunting you, and you can feel it coming?"
"It sounds silly when you put it like that," the Fathom, named Velare, said with a flinch as Salica's treatments sank into his cuts. "But yes. My father was cursed with a haunting, and I can feel that something is tuned in on me, coming after me. My only thought has been to get away from it."
"We'll be ready," Chittam said stonily whil Salica delicately wrapped a bandage around Velare's tail. "Everyone is getting into place. Whatever it is, we'll meet it."

(below, there are some observations about my language and its gendered words, which we have a lot. feel free to ignore if it's not of your interest)
As you can see, most adjectives are gendered; like "brava" (femimine) and "bravo" (masculine) -- both meaning "angry/pissed off". Mostly, the letters "o" and "a" are used to define if a word is masculine or feminine, respectively, and there aren't neutral alternatives for them (few exeptions are adjectives like "inteligente [smart]" and "estudante [student]" or "forte [strong]" which are completely neutral, like the english ones). Then we have the official gendered pronouns of portuguese language, "ele (he)" and "ela (she)". Lately, though, people are agreeing on the inclusion of neutral alternatives, using the letter "e" in these gendered words, instead of "a" or "o"
Ex: Brave (neutral alternative for brava/bravo) - angry
Cuidadose (neutral alternative for cuidadoso/cuidadosa) - careful
Esperte (neutral alternative for esperto/esperta) - another word for "smart"
And as some masculine words use "e" instead of "o", (like "ele"), the neutral equivalent would use "u" (becoming "elu", the neutral pronoun in portuguese language, like the singular they in english).
Fun fact: The word "the" also is gendered in portuguese, being divided in "o" (masculine) and "a" (feminine): [a mulher era inteligente - the woman was smart] or [o homem era lindo - the man was beautiful]. The neutral equivalent of it would be "ê" (ê menine era divertido - the enby was funny).
Another fun fact: There is a thing in portuguese which we call "nominal concordance" (concordância nominal), which is basically that every word in the sentence has to agree in number and gender with the noun. In english, most of the words are naturally neutral, but not in portuguese. Basically, nominal concordance means that you can't put a masculine adjective to describe a feminine noun. And I don't mean just "woman", "girl" and words like that. Many things in portuguese, like normal objects, also are put like fem or masc, since we don't have the pronoun "it". "Door" would be a feminine noun. Just as "mug", "shirt" or "window". So we use feminine adjectives when refering to such objects. Ex: A porta estava aberta. (The door was open - pink are the feminine words. Door is already feminine.) - O portão estava aberto. (The gate was open - blue are the masculine words. Gate is already masculine.)
Yet another fun fact: When we are talking of a plural, and in that plural we have both masculine and feminine members, the masculine stands out (This is actually because the language is mysoginist but forget that for a minute). In english, you have "they", right? In portuguese, not. We have gendered plurals! The most dumbest thing in the word, actually. Eles - plural of "he". If you're talking about a bunch of man, instead of saying, "they", you say "eles". Elas - plural of "she". Talking about a bunch of woman, "elas". So, when we put a woman and a men (pronoun conforming) in a group and talk about them, we don't say, he and she, as we miss the "they". We say "eles", the masculine plural. Because the masculine stands out. That's the rule: if in a plural there's at least one masculine noun, no matter if there are 99 fems, the nominal concordance might be masculine.
One more fun fact: While the word "person" (pessoa) is technically feminine in portuguese, you can use it to refer to people of any gender/pronouns, since it's pretty neutral, after all. Even if you got to use feminine words with it because of nominal concordance.
One more: most colors, even when used as adjectives, don't have gendered variations. Like blue - azul. You can say that a man or a woman are blue (don't ask why) without having to change the word. Some exeptions are red (vermelho/vermelha) and purple (roxo/roxa).

𝙸𝙳𝙴𝙰𝙻𝙲𝙷𝙾𝚂𝙴𝙽: a HIGHLY SELECTIVE, PRIVATE & MUTUALS ONLY roleplay blog for a canon divergent portrayal of NATURAL "N" HARMONIA-GROPIUS of gamefreak's POKEMON BLACK & WHITE. 18+ only. MINORS, PERSONALS & POKE IRL BLOGS DNI. Written by Cat. EST. DEC 2023. Medium-low activity. Multiverse & cross over friendly!
WILL CONTAIN TRIGGERING SUBJECTS SUCH AS ABUSE ( Mentioned in N's backstory ). INTERACT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
CARRD ( WIP )
DOC ( WIP )
CLICK HERE FOR RULES IN THE MEAN TIME.
Tumblr media
Very important information about my portrayal of N ( until i get a carrd set up ):
Is a biological clone of his father ( as we all know )
Still likes Pokémon more then people
Technically Homeless ( I do not count anime only stuff bc. I don’t watch it )
Autistic. Are you surprised? I’m not.
Hates loud noises and will remove himself if its too loud.
I retcon the whole “he gives reshiram/zekrom to MC’ no. My N still has Zekrom.
He’s a little more self aware of manipulation tactics but unfortunately is still naive enough to be manipulated.
N is non binary and uses He/They pronouns.
He is a pan romantic demi sexual.
He likes street food because it reminds him of the fair which reminds him of the Ferris wheel which is his favourite thing ever.
He did attempt vegetarianism at one point but he got very sick from not getting enough vitamins and minerals, despite doing it properly. Turns out it’s because his clone body was reacting negatively to it.
People who actually know that N is a lab kid:
Hilda & Hilbert know. They find out around the same time N does after the events of B/W.
Rosa & Nate also know.
Colress knows from working with Ghetsis.
John ( @turnecoat ) knows because the information was found out by interpol after B/W and N was taken in for questioning.
Lysandre ( @fleurladari ) knows from data gathering.
Silva ( @picavecalyx ) knows because they have a lot of similarities and he trusted her enough. It’s easier when there’s someone like you, you know?
Felicity ( @memorigami ) similar reasoning to Silva but she knows bc they’re both fucked up people who need each other.
— The N Project.
The N project was a cloning project—the third one done by Ghetsis in order to make a perfect clone of himself that could be taught Pokespeak, easily befriend Pokémon and become a champion to one of the legendary dragons of Unova. Of course this was all to benefit Ghetsis’ own needs, as the perfected clone would also be created to continue his tyrannical path once he died.
The first two of the cloning project were Anthea & Concordia using DNA that was not Ghetsis’ own. They were created with DNA from two of the Seven Sages. They were deemed as failures but developed some psychic abilities.
Natural, or Experiment N-003, was closer to a perfected clone using Ghetsis’ own DNA. The clone was meant to age as a regular human being so it could be nurtured and manipulated and molded into Ghetsis’ ideal image. The DNA would still take time to mature as Natural grew older, which is why by the time he turns 30, his eyes become red and he shows a little more physical characteristics to Ghetsis.
When he was awoken at the age of 2 after final diagnostic checks he was thrown into the wild with abused Pokémon to develop Pokespeak. Despite what most may know, he was being monitored the whole time via hidden, wireless cameras in the area. Scientists had to log data and track the success of Natural learning what he needed for the next 4 years.
In his teens + adult years, N has been put into an experimental tube like the one he was developed in to run diagnostics and gather data. This usually happens when he is asleep, and he would have no recollection of it. However, after learning about his origins he did start to have nightmares about being the lab, as if he were an outsider looking in, only to realize these are repressed memories from the scientists blocking off those memories in his brain. Lack of maintenance on the repressed memories staying repressed is the cause of these ‘memory dreams’.
All of N’s body is organic but they are able to pull data from his mind.
Part of the N project was for Natural to be homeschooled by the Seven Sages and learn about being a King to prepare him for coronation and his duties. He was isolated from people except for the Sages and his Sisters and some scientists. Because he wasn’t taught real, basic education ( he’s not stupid, he DID learn stuff; math, history ect but most of his education was focused on him being a king and what he would be doing when he was crowned ) he gets confused by certain things and his social skills lack severely. Also, you know. Autism.

W-wait...
I'm probably going to sound insane (lol) but this got me thinking...
I always found it weird how they deliberately named one of their male characters "Artem" (in english). You can argue "Nah, it's nothing. And yes, there's a big possibility that it is nothing. BUT! Hear me out.
I'm no theorist or anything. I'm a simple Artem lover who loves to see him become "true route/canon" male love interest. Sit back and relax, I'm gonna ramble about him! <3
We know that Artemis/Themis is representative of our MC, Rosa, or us. We can see it in her statue. Although it's only a symbolism, with how far CN ToT has gotten so far, we cannot be so sure if this plays a bigger part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So... I searched for the greek goddess/roman goddess diana/artemis and look at the interesting stuff i found.
Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, wild animals, chastity, and rebirth. She was mostly depicted by poets and artists as a STAG or hunting dog.
And we know who's been depicted as a stag/deer before? This guy.
Tumblr media
Do I need to explain? >~<
So I checked what Deer meaning is and its usually gentleness and sensitivity and even innocence and youth. But when I search for it's meaning in love, I was floored.
Here is the article where I got the excerpt below:
"Deers do not force their way through life, and so they are a reminder that we cannot coerce the flow of love in our own lives. The deer encourages submerging into love and embracing love on its own terms. They do not wrestle it to the ground, rather..they gently survey and explore their realm, detecting the presence of love in every breeze and blossom on their path. This, I think, is the epitome of deer meanings in that these creatures display heightened sensitivity to life."
Now, I'm going to link 2 tumblr posts about Artem Love Theme in game. Actual CN lore/translation. You be the judge of this. I'll try to summarize it in excerpts:
1 & 2
From link 1:
"[可遇而不可求]... this phrase means is that what belongs in your life will come to you and what doesn’t belong to your life should not be forced. A wondrous thing can only be waited for and if it belongs to you then, when the opportunity comes, you put in the effort and you will get it. However, if it doesn’t belong to you, then even if you force it and obtain it for a short while you will still ultimately lose it in the end."
From link 2 (vid):
"It's not that I haven't thought this before, but perhaps to me you are something that can only be encountered and not sought for."
Like it fits so well with his theme of love in game. Also, why deer out of all the animals out there. Deer that is connected symbollically to Artemis/Themis? Hmm.. Sus.
I think I'm gonna cry... anyway! Moving on from the article and just to my thoughts in general.
I wouldn't be surprised if Artem's the actual true love/true end/canon-y male lead. Lol. Before, I would say Luke's very canon with the best friends to lovers trope but Artem blows away all of them by a margin that I like to call...
Fate. Specifically, Red String Fate and Past Lives.
This is just my personal opinion and everyone is invited to have a take. I even doubt there would be a "true love/true end/canon" couple like some otome games in ToT. But if we're going to agree just this once about who's more likely set up in game by Mihoyo as Rosa's canon lover (or who'll betray her--*someone staples my mouth shut*), it's going to be Artem for a few reasons I noticed.
His name is Artem from Artemis. Rosa is symbolically Artemis or at least connected to her. They're both symbols of justice since they're lawyers.
Artem is Libra. Libra is Themis' scale of justice. She holds him. You can argue he's favored but that isn't really a strong hold. I just think it's interesting lol.
In all major ToT events (except Enduring Light I think) such the Gufeng/Blizzardous Event and Artem's personal cards Entwined Fate and Paired Blessing, there is always a presence of the Red String trope. It's become clear it's their trope.
If you don't know what this trope is, to give a very rough idea, it's essentially you have a destined soulmate and your pinkies or your lives are entwined/tangled/connected through a red string that binds you forever. It's an invisible string that pulls you to this person no matter what, no matter where you are, what lifetime you are in. Like fate. Fated lovers in any lifetime. Reincarnation. I think the only way to sever this completely is through a pair of divine scissor (?). I dont know. I've long forgotten this tale TT^TT.
So going back, it's so weird to me that Artem and Rosa has so much past lives theme and red string themes like fate and all that in their personal love story. And its not even just in the personal cards like the separate ones from the canon in game events that comes with the cards like the exploration games.
Artem and Rosa's fates diverted out of their story multiple times and I think this happened with Luke too in the new event (the current one, Enduring Light) but Luke was playing a character when he alludes to little boss (rosa in their roleplay) as the person luke saved in his "past life" when he killed himself by purposefully crashing his plane lol. But with Artem and Rosa... they were themselves when they discovered objects that alluded to their "past lives". It's very cute. I don't think its canon (a/n: its not lol.) but i love how mihoyo has stuck to this religiously.
Here's a Twitter Thread.
4. Rosa is almost if not always saved by Artem in some way in Main Story. Remember when Rosa has to choose to kill Artem or herself? Yeah, that's on main story! Or other times they got trouble in that club or something? It's a lot. I think Artem's got the most screen time too in Main Story overall.
This is gettingbway too long so I'm cutting this short. Thanks for dealing with my rambling! Phew! You made it this far? You're a certified Artem Wing lover I bet 🤣💗🫶🏻
TAKE NOTE:
I may be screaming "Oh this is bloody canon!" "Oh they're canon!" "True love!" Yadada and all that, but remember this is just my personal, selfish opinion based on what I found and my thoughts in general as someone who goes with Artem as her main lead.
If you beg to differ, please you're welcome to give your thoughts! It's welcomed here 🥰🫶🏻
STAN ARTEM.
Guys I'm dead everyone knows Artem's name is a short variation of the greek "Artemis" but then if you squint at it...

Do you imagine like, Peter introducing Tony to Brooklyn 99 ? The wild shit that would ensue would be amazing :
Peter would be obsessed with it, and obviously quoting the show on a daily basis with Ned. Eventually, he would start cracking b99 jokes while he works in the lab with Tony, with one here and there. Tony wouldn't pay attention, thinking it's just another weird joke of the kid (plus he's sleep-deprived).
But as the lab days pass, Peter would quote the show more and more, because the new season is coming out soon so he and Ned just binge watch it non-stop. After a while, Tony's definetly not sleep-deprived brain would click. He would ask Peter where all these jokes come from, because there's definetly something going on and he doesn't like being left out of the loop. Peter would go red and start rambling : "oh, it's just uh.. you know.. there's this show that Ned and I really like, I mean not only us, there's like so many people who love it, but anyways, it's about cops in brooklyn and they are like all super cool, there's this detective who always has big knifes and stuff, and there's another one who loves weird food, and this big sargeant played by Terry Crews who loves yogurt and-"
Tony would stop him, and ask the name of the show. "Oh. Uh, it's Brooklyn 99". Tony would then get up from his stool, walk up to Peter and say "how about we go in the living room and put it on then ? If you're to quote it all the time, I might as well be able to understand what you're saying". Peter would get really excited, and they would go in the living room to watch it.
Tony would be mostly curious, because why the hell was Peter so obsessed with Terry Crews eating weird yogurt with a big knife ? After a short reflexion, maybe he should go pick up a coffee before starting the show.
After a few episodes, it would turn out that Tony just LOVES it, because there is so much sass in this show, but there's also the same kind of humor that Peter has (and he loves the kids' stupid jokes, not that he would stop rolling his eyes at them though), so he is completely conquered.
Gina is definetly his favorite, which Peter had guessed because she's literally the feminin version of Tony, to which Tony totally agrees. He would then say to Peter that he is a mix of Jake and Boyle, because he always has stupid ideas, he's messy but also clumsy and caring for everyone (but he mostly has stupid ideas). After that, they would try to find who is who in the show and debate over that (Peter says that Rhodey is Rosa because he is super badass and has a ton of weapons on the suit and always has good plans).
They end up binge watching the whole first season that day, and they really have a lot of fun. When May calls Peter because it's late and he needs to come home, Tony says that they can watch season 2 next time, to which Peter immediatly agrees. So this is how a new ritual starts, in which Peter would come to the tower to work in the lab with Tony for a few hours before they would go in the living room to watch b99.
Tony ends up quoting the show in the lab as well, which makes the lab sessions even funnier to the both of them. Sometimes, Tony quotes the show when he is with Rhodey or Pepper, so they end up catching up on the show as well because Tony and Peter barely speak in something other than b99 references at this point and they don't understand a thing of what they are saying.
In the end, they just have b99 binge watch nights all together, with May and Peter staying over. They even make game nights based on the show, like they sort a case they have to solve, and each one impersonates a character as they try to solve the case the way the squad would in the show. Obviously they mess around a lot, while perfectly staying in character, and it can take a lot of time to solve the case but they just have so much fun all together that it's even better that way.

give you my wild, give you a child
"stupid numbers, think they’re so great. i'd love to see numbers give you a baby."
inspired by that one line in 8x08 renewal, because he really did give her a baby.
read on ao3
It's been three days and Amy can't stop crying.
Sometimes she thinks it's stopped, that she'll finally have a stable moment to talk to her husband or eat a meal in peace or facetime some of the twenty or so relatives on her list, but it feels like it’s never more than minutes before her emotions swim to surface again and something new brings out the vibrating sobs that have seemed to characterize this day. As it turns out, even newly pregnant Amy has got nothing on three days postpartum Amy.
That she cries about the big, life-changing things doesn’t surprise her. When she wakes up after a night of minimal sleep and sees Mac in the bedside crib next to her, she cries because she’s so grateful; that everything went well, that their baby is finally here and that he's perfect beyond words. Then she cries because she thinks about what could have happened if it hadn't gone well, because she gave birth in a makeshift birthing suite in a police precinct, and so many things could have gone wrong it’s a miracle nothing did. When she gets out of the shower, she cries seeing herself in the bathroom mirror, because she's proud of her body in a way she's never experienced before. Then she cries because she also barely recognizes the person staring back at her, still looking six months pregnant except with hospital underwear and nursing pads in her bra. When she has breakfast after feeding Mac and tries to read the newspaper, she cries because so many terrible things are happening in the world all the time, and she doesn’t know how she’s going to protect this child from a world that sometimes seems to be getting more and more cruel by the day. Then she cries out of guilt for feeling that way, because she’s supposed to be enjoying this baby bubble, and what kind of mother even is she for daring to think about anything but her baby right now?
As the day goes on, however, her reasons for crying begin to feel increasingly ridiculous. She cries because she’s so relieved to be drinking regular coffee again, then because it doesn’t taste the same as decaf and she’s gotten so used to it that the caffeine tastes weird now. She cries because the coffee goes cold anyway when Mac begins to whimper and suck on his fingers in the way he seems to do whenever he’s hungry and she has to drop everything to feed him another time. She cries when Jake turns on the television and a commercial for diapers comes on, because she can’t believe they get to buy them now. Then she cries when Mac has finished eating because the red flannel she borrowed slash stole from Jake won’t button properly, and she realizes one of the buttons has gone in the wrong hole and she has to redo the whole thing. When Jake offers to help her with it, that makes her cry too, because the way he’s not laughing at her right now but patiently trying to solve her problems is making her feel so loved she doesn't know how to thank him.
The thing that makes her cry most of all, though, is watching Jake and Mac together. She always knew that sight would drive her crazy, and it’s part of the reason she wanted to have kids with him so much in the first place, but not even in her most indulgent fantasies about their future could she have pictured this. As grateful as she is over the fact that she gets to be a mom, getting to see Jake be a dad is a close second. He loves their son so much, and Mac so clearly loves him too, and Amy has to remind herself of the nine months she's spent carrying this child by herself in order not to feel jealous when Mac stops fussing the moment Jake picks him up. He looks so tiny when Jake holds him, the back of his head fitting perfectly in Jake's palm, and the care with which he’s handling him keeps making her emotional. He's always talking to him, sometimes whispers she can't hear and sometimes praise for her which she can, and that makes her cry too. He even chats to him when he changes his diapers, which Amy hides behind the door frame just so she can hear, failing to stifle a giggle when he asks in a fake interrogation voice what Mac has to say to his defense for making such a mess. He wakes up with her in the middle of the night when she has to breastfeed to get her endless glasses of water and granola bars when it makes her feel starving, and then he lets Mac burp him in the face and spit up on the back of his shirt before he falls back asleep curled up on his chest. He leans his chin on the top of Mac’s head to smell that perfect baby scent, running his finger over those cute neck rolls, and the smile on his face when he looks back at Amy makes her completely lose it, because this is what she dreamed of all along.
This is what she imagined when they visited her brother Christian’s new baby shortly before they got married and Jake spent the better part of an hour making funny faces to the child in his arms. This is what she panicked over when he said he wasn't sure if he wanted kids, because she had always thought. This is what she thought of those nights after another timed round of unenthusiastic sex, trying to keep the hope alight until that single line would once more tell them not this time. She had felt it in his teary smile when she showed him that first positive test, in how hard he'd squeezed her hand at their first ultrasound when their baby’s heartbeat had filled the room, in the absolute joy on his face the first time he’d managed to put his hand on her stomach just in time to feel their son kick, and now it's right in front of her and almost too much for her heart to take.
She's so tired, and she's sore and overwhelmed and worried about a billion different things, but she's never felt so grateful.
That's what makes her cry floods at three a.m. when Mac seems to have finished eating and she comes back from the bathroom to find Jake still sitting up with him in bed, holding him with a hypnotised look on his face. He doesn’t even seem tired, even though he must be, is just looking at his son like he’s holding the entire world in his arms and doesn’t ever want to let go. She always knew seeing him with a baby would be incredible, those surprisingly toned biceps curling around a fragile little human and those heart eyes focused on one thing only, but maybe she hadn’t expected not being able to watch it without breaking into tears.
“Jeez, Ames,” he says when he looks up, the expression on his face changing to one of concern. “Are you okay? Honestly?”
“Yeah,” she sniffles and dries her eyes again as she sits down on the bed. The skin on her cheeks is stinging at this point. “I just can’t believe this is my life.”
“Why not?” Mac’s pacifier glides out of his mouth, and Jake puts it back with two fingers before he can notice anything. “We’re right here, babe. We’re very much real.”
“Sometimes I thought it was never going to happen.” She hiccups. “All the times we’ve been apart. The months we fought to have him. How freaking long and exhausting being pregnant was. And now I have him, and you, and I’m just so grateful I don’t know what to do with myself.”
“That’s why you’re crying?”
“I think I don’t even know why I’m crying anymore. I’m so sleep-deprived.”
“Yeah.” Jake smirks. “But I get it. I’m really, really grateful too.”
Mac makes a short gurgling sound that Amy takes to mean he agrees. She reaches out so his hand can wrap around her ring finger, feeling him squeezing it tight in the cutest grip. The grey striped pajamas has little mittens on it to keep him from scratching herself, but Mac gets upset whenever they pull them down, so Amy figures they'll just have to keep filing his nails instead. Their son is already both opinionated and stubborn, and she loves it about him, because she loves everything about who he is. He's perfect, and he's hers, and she still can't quite believe it even though he's right there in Jake's arms. It's all her dreams coming true, and it's making all the hard things feel so worth it.
 “Jake?”
“Yeah?”
“Thanks for giving me a baby,” she whispers. She’s too tired, barely even knows what she's saying anymore, but looking at the two of them, all she can think about is how incredibly lucky and thankful she feels.
Jake blinks in disbelief, grinning at her. “Wait, I gotta make sure I heard this right. Did you just thank me for giving you a baby?”
“Uh-huh?”
“And you're serious about this?”
“Well… yeah.”
“So you mean after nine months,” he says, still wide-eyed, “of you telling me, minimum a couple times a week but pretty much daily toward the end, that I could never understand what you're going through, and then you shouting some lovely descriptions at me whilst you were literally pushing him out, and also earlier this evening when you cried because I can't breastfeed him for you – you’re thanking me?”
“Some of it was a team effort,” she insists. “You helped.”
“Oh yeah, my nards sure are loving the credit.”
“Don't be gross.”
“Sorry.” He smiles, a little bashfully, stroking his fingers back and forth over Mac’s forehead instead of looking at her. “But Ames, c’mon. It was a pretty limited effort compared to what you did.”
“Maybe they’re not the same thing.” She leans her head on his shoulder. Mac is still holding on to her finger, but his grip is getting looser now. “But you were part of it too, babe.”
“Really?” He’s blushing. “What did I do that was so special?”
“Let's see. You didn’t laugh at me when I kept crying at everything the first weeks. Rosa made fun of me on a daily basis, but you just hugged me and told me everything was going to be okay. You let me sleep in when I had days off, even though I pretended I wanted you to wake me up. You fixed food for me without telling me what it was, and put it in front of me before I could feel sick thinking about it.” She shakes her head at the memory of those, few but complicated, weeks, and how hard they’d had to work around it. “You kept telling me I looked great even when my body kept changing and it all felt weird, and helped me pick out maternity wear when I didn’t want to do it on my own. I don’t know that I would have taken barely any bump pictures if you hadn't made me. You listened to all my research about the best strollers and pacifiers and cribs, and you did those courses and read all those books with me, and you came to almost every scan and held my hand so tight every time. You came home with onesies and hats because you thought they were too cute not to buy, and you gave me massages whenever I wanted them, and you even slept on the couch a couple nights at the end when I got angry at you for snoring. You barely even complained about it.”
“I complained a little,” Jake mumbles. “When you couldn’t hear me.”
“Fine. And lastly, you rode a horse through the city to get to me while I was in labor, and you didn’t even act like seeing him be born was gross.”
“I mean, it was a little bit gross.” Jake lifts Mac so he can kiss his forehead when he whimpers. “No offense, bud. I mean you looked perfect, I didn’t think you looked like a slimy alien even for a second, didn’t cross my mind, et cetera.”
“Whatever.” She rolls her eyes. “Point is, babe, you were there. You're here now. I know I did the actual work, but you were the one who made sure I could. I don’t know how I would have made it through without you. So… thank you.”
He doesn't give her any witty comebacks for that, only a shy smile.
“I love you,” Amy all but whispers through the tears that fight their way through her determination to keep them in. “Both of you. So much.”
“Love you, Ames.”
She kisses him, putting her hands on each side of his thighs so she can reach over Mac. Kissing is a lot more complicated than usual when both his hands are busy and none of them wants to risk crushing their son, but it's still nice, feeling his soft lips on hers and squeezing his lower lip between both of hers for just a moment before pulling apart.
“It's hard to kiss you while you're holding a baby,” she says, and Jake grimaces. “That might be the only bad thing about it.”
“My bad. I’m just going to put him down so we can make out all night.”
“Don't you dare. He currently doesn't have a boob in his mouth and he's still not crying, you're not doing anything to risk that now.” Amy pulls the comforter up to her chin. “Wake me up when he needs to eat again and not a second earlier.”
Jake chuckles at her as she turns out the light and snuggles up close to him, but he makes no move to put Mac down or even protest, and she didn't think it was possible to love him even more. Her heart has definitely grown with becoming a mom, much like everyone told her about, but most seem to have forgotten to prepare her for how much it would also grow when it came to her partner.
“I still think I’m the one who should say thank you,” Jake whispers just as she closes her eyes, and Amy can't help but smile. “If we're talking about who gave who a baby.”
“Jake, just accept the praise.”
“Oh, yeah.” She doesn't need to see his face to know that he's grinning. “I’ve locked it in a little box in my brain and I’m gonna keep it as gloat material forever, bringing it up when you least expect it.”
“That's great, babe.”
“Mm-hmm. We both know the truth, though.” Jake's left hand strokes over the top of her head, and Amy has to look up to see that Mac is still resting safely on his right arm and doesn't seem to have noticed a thing. Another tear fight its way down her cheek at the thought of how safe he must feel with him. This time, she doesn’t even bother to wipe it away.

Note
imagine jake gets his john mcclane moment, but it turns into his biggest nightmare because amy and mac are one of the hostages. maybe on amy's day off at the bank or something
it would be the WORST omg
- he's being all crazy about it again, locked in the building with Rosa and going on about this being the most awesome way to spend their newest job together (Rosa asked for help with another investigation again, something about fraud this time that led them to the bank). Rosa is this close to tell him to shut the fuck up please, your Die Hard obsession is hard enough to take when we're not actually IN IT
- also tbh even before they find out about Amy+Mac they're both kinda on edge because the last time they were in a bank together they literally got arrested for trying to rob it so uuuh hearing that there's robbers barging in through the front doors is not exactly a good thing for either of them to think about
- (good thing they both know each other well enough to check for a possible panic attack and keep each other grounded)
- until, of course, Jake makes Rosa go into the airvents (THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT OKAY) and she does get a view of the hostage situation and starts recounting it to him a few feet behind her: "5 robbers, armed, an old couple, three bankers, a young man, and a woman with a strol- oh no" "oh no what Rosa. OH NO WHAT ROSA." "It's Amy. And Mac."
- that's when Jake hears the telltale sign of his own baby's crying that he knows better than anything else and yeah, this is not Die Hard anymore. This is not cool. At all.
- "We're going back and calling the police." "Seriously?" "YES Rosa seriously what do you think we should do?! Run in there so they can fucking shoot the hostages or something?" "I thought you'd come up with some insane plan to save the day!" "I DON'T WANT TO SAVE THE DAY. I NEED TO SAVE MY WIFE AND SON."
- Rosa is mildly stunned, to say the least, but they do shuffle back from the airvents into the office space they were previously trying to break into for information, and Jake calls Holt from his cell to tell him to send the biggest squad he can get together down here
- unfortunately the robbers have good ears and all Rosa can do is push him into a locker to hide before they barge in and take her hostage too, so, great, now he's ALONE in a BANK while his only friend who'd understand and help him is being KIDNAPPED together with his WIFE AND SON
- at least Holt's on the go now so all he really needs to do is stall them. Make sure they don't, like, leave the bank and take the hostages with them or something crazy. And, as luck would have it, he is in the head-honcho's office right now, which means there's an intercom. So if he takes that with him and times his messages right and hides inbetween..
- he manages to send 3 of the 5 robbers on a wild goose chase through the bank trying to find the 'fucking asshole who's talking shit to them through the speakers' while Rosa and Amy share a lot of worried looks
- (they can't sit together because then the robbers might figure out they know each other, and would also know the dude Rosa was obviously working with, and whose kid is this...? No way either of them is going to risk that, so it's silent stares from across the room and, strangely, synchronised breathing so neither of them turns into a panic)
- the SWAT team manages to break through about 10 minutes later, Holt right behind them, and they find Jake with a very knocked out robber at his feet in one of the offices. He immediately jumps Holt and asks about Amy and Mac
- "I would not know, Peralta." "What do you mean you don't know?!" "I have not been to the main hall yet, but decided to sweep the rooms for the three missing perps that you reported." "Priorities, Cap- why am I arguing with you? The other two guys are tied up three rooms back, now excuse me but if anyone tries to stand in my way again until I see Amy I'll have to knock out some non-criminals"
- pretty sure he's never run faster in his life, and god he fucking hates cardio, but he makes it to the main hall in less than two minutes and immediately runs into Amy with a not-crying-anymore baby in her arms and the world is alright again
- Rosa gets pulled into the family hug as well, because of course, and they offer her a drive home too. She opts for a drive to their home instead and helps put Mac into bed and then, only then to Jake and her allow themselves to panic a little while sitting on the couch being fed beer and Spanish comfort food by Amy.

beyond the story: bitchin’
Tumblr media
Hi friends! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy during these tough times! I really wanted to put something out there as a thank you to just how much support Bitchin’ got. You guys really are incredible. So, although this story has come to an end, I wanted to properly close the Bitchin’ chapter by giving you all a behind the scenes look at Bitchin’ and everything that went into writing it. This includes hidden easter eggs, backstories, alternative plot-lines, and a short drabble of the Bitchin’ cast 10 years after the story’s end.
Without further ado, please enjoy and thank you again for all your love. You have all of mine.
CHAPTER ONE – PARTNERS
Ah, yes, the start of this whole wild ride. I’ve always loved the whole nerd/popular person trope in fanfics, so it was only a matter of time before I tried my hand at it too. One thing I was adamant about was not making this a “popular person turns nerd hot/confident/better” fic as its kind of one of my least favorite cliches. With that in mind, and knowing that I was going to allude to TATBILB’s contract, I decided that I wanted Y/N to gain as much from the deal as Jungkook did. No blackmail, no just agreeing for the hell of it – Y/N was going to further herself and her dreams given the opportunity.
The beginning of the chapter is where the two are most separated and dissimilar throughout the whole story. It wasn’t that they were fundamentally different, it was that they approached life differently. Y/N was frustrated at how superficial Jungkook seemed, because she believes there is much more to life than just kicking your feet up and cracking jokes.
On the other hand, Jungkook didn’t understand why Y/N was so tense and on guard. To him, life was meant to enjoy and not take so seriously. Which makes sense, given that he grew up with minimal rules and minimal worries (bare minimum partners wassup !)
“So, do we have a deal? Partners?” There was mischievous timber to his words, the kind that made you feel as if this would all later come back to bite you in the ass.
Pushing that pestering thought away, you took his hand into yours, holding his eyes as you gave it a firm shake.
“Partners.”
God, this bit. I knew from the minute I wrote it that I was writing the ending of bitchin’ along with it. I knew this was exactly how I was going to end this story, bc the word partners has multiple means right? In chapter 1, this meant business partners, but in the final chapter… it means life partners. Idk, I’m just still really happy with this writing decision :D
CHAPTER TWO – THE CONTRACT
Dearest Yara. We meet her in chapter two don’t we? Yara is completely based off of my irl best friend Yara who is a writer and who helped me A LOT with this story. She was my biggest supporter throughout figuring out this crazy plot. It was initially only about seven parts, but with her help I managed to bump it up to 10! Everybody say thank you Yaraaaa.
You were angry, that much was evident to her. Yara was sat in your shared dorm’s living room, a thick blanket engulfing her small frame. You briefly glanced towards the TV, it was tuned into MTV, the familiar music video of Every Breath You Take by The Police playing, before directing your glare back onto the copper-haired girl.
The song reference is a direct allusion to writer Yara’s fic, which is one of my favorite fics by her. She was actively writing it around the start of our friendship so it only felt right to pay respects to her. The introduction of her character felt necessary imo bc I wanted to make sure Y/N had a life outside Jungkook. Plus, I got to use the scenes between the two girls as a way to reference the music and culture scene. Yara is especially a fan of the powerful women in the music industry at the time, i.e., Madonna, Annie Lennox, Cyndi Laupner, etc.) Yara is a raging feminist and believer in sexual freedom and libery for women, we do in fact have to stan.
“How old do you think your sister is?”
“Hey, don’t sass me. For your information, Lyanna still has all her Care Bear tapes. She threw a hissy fit when my mom tried to give them away last Christmas.” Yara recalled.
Lyanna is one of writer Yara’s past pseudonyms. She always used to joke about how whenever she read it, it was confusing because there was Y/N, Yara and Lyanna, which were technically all her lolol.
FUNNY STORY ABOUT THE CONTRACT I INSERTED INTO THIS PICTURE… Twitter found it and made it into somewhat of a meme because no one knew it came from a fic rip. I was actually rly embarrassed and even wrote some posts about how much twitter scared me on my blog LMAO. but THEN weirdly enough, I actually stumbled upon a small community on twitter who actually found my fic and would TWEET ABOUT IT!!! LIKE REACTIONS TO EACH UPDATE!!! I wish I could go back in time and remember how giddy I was the first time I found a tweet about my fic. The fanfic community on twitter gave me a new love for the site (which I had previously had removed myself from because of its toxicity) and I have met so many wonderful people because of it. People even made themselves a little twitter group chat to talk about my fics, and now we are all friends! I miss posting a chapter of bitchin’ and refreshing my twitter feed as all my mutuals would post memes and live tweet their reactions. God that made me so fucking happy.
CHAPTER THREE – THE ROLLERSKATING DATE
I love the bickering in this chapter, because unlike the bickering in the first chapter, it’s actually less hostile and more playful. Y/N is slowly letting her guard down to the very persistently charming Jungkook.
“Woah. Family of six, huh? So you have siblings then.” He noted.
“Yep. Three.”
“Tell me about them.”
Looking up from where you were slipping on your second skate, you met Jungkook’s eyes, surprised to see genuine interest in them.
I actually originally had Y/N brush him off here. I was going to wait until the drunk party scene for Y/N to open up about her family and relationship with her sisters. But then I kind of thought to myself… Why? Y/N made peace with it and doesn’t hold onto those insecurities anymore. And objectively, Jungkook hasn’t proven himself to be a bad person so… I let Y/N open herself up to him.
“Then there’s the twins, Rosa and Lia.”
“Hold on. Twins? Wait… did they go to our high school?” Jungkook asked, his interest in this conversation doubled.
“Yep. They were two grades above us.” You confirmed.
“Oh shit, yeah, I remember your sisters, they were mad hot.” Jungkook let out a low whistle, before stiffening, flashing you an apologetic look. “Uh, in a totally non-meathead way.”
You offered the scared-looking boy a small smile, shaking your head.
Some of y’all notice but, Rosa and Lia are a blatant homage to my name: Roselia. ACTUALLY some form of my name can be found in every one of the rewind series fics, including upcoming ones. I’ll give a cookie to whoever can find every single mention hehe.
“I told you it was dumb.” You laughed nervously.
It wasn’t that you cared much about what Jungkook thought but you had a feeling a guy like him, who was popular and carefree, wouldn’t be able to sympathize in the way you would like him to.
“No, I’m just… surprised, that’s all.”
Jungkook certainly was surprised. You had built up quite the impression on him from the very moment you two met. It was hard to imagine that the girl who was so unapologetically herself was ever unsure or insecure.
Somehow, the idea tugged at his heart, as if he understood you more if only just a little.
From the get go, Jungkook was extremely drawn to just how confident and secure Y/N was in herself. I knew I wanted Y/N to be unapologetically sure of herself and in her abilities. Something I didn’t want, however, was for frat boy!jungkook’s only personality traits to be liking sex and being a cocky bastard (although I am a big consumer of that trope heh). Jungkook is actually canonly incredibly insecure. He lacks a real sense of self, which is why he is so desperate for Kiri back. His relationship with Kiri at that time was a big part of what he thought was himself. He has somewhat of low self esteem tbh which is why he’ll go back to a woman who treated him unfairly. That’s why he comes off the way he does in the first chapter and why Y/N thinks he has a big ego... he’s overcompensating. He finds it so endlessly fascinating that Y/N, in all her confident glory, was actually once super insecure. He admires her all the more once she opens up about her past.
“Oh, Rosa is an intern for our hometown’s newspaper but between you and me those assholes don’t even let her write. She does coffee and burger runs for men in charge. And Lia sells ice cream at the mall.”
“What about your brother?” Jungkook asked.
“He’s training to be a cop just like my dad.”
“And your mom?”
“She works at a convenience store.”
All their careers resemble people in the latest Stranger Things season (Nancy, Steve, Hopper, and Joyce). Fun Cameo there.
“What’s wrong?” You wondered, following his eyes.
“October 16th, 1985. 6:48PM.”
“Yes. That’s today’s date and time. What about it?” You pressed, growing confused.
“Remember it.” He warned.
“Why?”
“It’s when I fell in love with you.”
This iconic line I actually got from the real Jeon Jungkook himself. While Jungkook wasn’t actually in love with Y/N here, it certainly was a cute way for him to express his admiration for her.
OH HERE’S A FUN FACT: the hickey scene at the end of this chapter where JK and Y/N kiss for the first time was actually supposed to be Yara giving Y/N the hickey like the best friend she is. Ultimately I went with JK giving it for... smut purposes... ≖‿≖
CHAPTER FOUR – THE HALLOWEEN PARTY
The decision for Y/N to be Freddie Krueger came from me planning to be him for Halloween. And I was! JK as Glen Lantz just followed naturally. I’ve seen some great edits of him as the character. Truly chef’s kiss.
I really liked that Jungkook came over to the girl’s dorm to get ready. I didn’t want a scene where Y/N was thrown into a situation she was uncomfortable with which is how much Nerd At A Party Scene go so made sure Jungkook stayed by her side throughout the part, going out of his way to introducing her to the people he cared about.
Tae’s character came in when I realized I needed a way to actually put Y/N’s event in motion. He was the missing link and BOY did you guys eat his character right up huh. Love that for me.
Another thing, the confrontation with Kiri was so hard to write guys, I reeaaaally struggle with girl conflict. GIRLS SHOULD SUPPORT GIRLS. However, not everyone gets along in real life so I went with Kiri being more along the lines of petty rather than outwardly a cunt to Y/N. Realistically, Kiri is popular and well liked among the greek life so being unkind to someone she hardly knows wouldn’t make sense. There’s definitely tension between these two but I tried my best to steer away from the typical cat fight/revenge porn/public humiliation trope most movies seem to follow.
CHAPTER FIVE – THE FIRST TIME
Introduction to Erik!!!! It was really important to me that Y/N had a life before Jungkook. That's why I wrote in Y/N having a fiancé. She’s not opposed to love, she just has reshifted her focus. She knows what she wants and is choosing to focus on that, which why when she realizes she’s falling for Kookie she’s so hesitant to admit it because she’s fallen down that road before. Even though Jungkook treats her with respect and acknowledges the parts of her she’s most proud of, she just isn’t willing to possibly give up her passions for love. Which is why she doesn’t immediately confess to him, even once she’s sure she loves him.
“I’m serious, nerd. You’re like… um… the sun!” Jungkook marveled, eyes growing full as the realization dawned on him.
“The sun?” You laughed.
“Yeah, like… you’re this bright, beautiful thing that seems like it’s here in front of me but is really light-years away.”
Jungkook was drunk, and although you were sure he was making more sense in his head, you couldn’t help but feel your face grow hot, unsure of how to react to his drunk analogy.
“You’re the sun, Y/N. You make the world turn for you. Never orbit for anyone else.”
And suddenly, you were kissing him, for no other reason other than you wanted to and that it felt like the right thing to do.
No real commentary here. Just love this bit. It’s probably my favorite interaction between them two ‧⁺◟( ᵒ̴̶̷̥́ ·̫ ᵒ̴̶̷̣̥̀ )
“Also… She’s, uh, currently dating Eunwoo.” You told Yara.
Your best friend blinked, silence falling over her.
“Yara?”
“Good for her.” She perked up almost forcibly. “Let her put up with his annoying ass.”
Yara could see the way your expression had turned dubious as if you didn’t believe her nonchalant act.
Yara turned up her nose defensively, “What?”
Ugh yes, some character development from Yara.... the flavor ! Yara (much like Y/N and JK) also struggles with love. She has a real fear of commitment and if far more comfortable with casual sex than relationships. She did develop actual feelings for Eunwoo, she just wasn’t ready for that kind of commitment so she cut him off. Fleed the scene if you will. Typical gemini smh my head.
"I don’t think the contract mentioned orgasms.” Jungkook smirked as you released his thumb.
“I say we let it slide.” You shrugged, leaning into him casually.
“You think?”
“Totally. Think of it as… a bonding activity.” You joked, resting your chin on his shoulder, peering up through your lashes.
“Damn, we’re really committed to this fake dating thing, huh.”
You laughed in the way that you hated, but Jungkook loved; it was loud and abrupt, but it genuine, and it was you.
“What can I say, I’m a method actor.” You sighed dramatically, causing Jungkook to grin before pressing a kiss to your nose, simply because he liked the way it always seemed to make you smile.
GOD THEY’RE SO WHIPPED FOR EACH OTHER ITS DISGUSTING!!!!!! I’m really happy I decided not to make sleeping together a big deal and I got a lot of feedback from you guys agreeing! I had a lot of fun with these two’s sex scenes knowing they could do it whenever they wanted.
CHAPTER SIX – THE STEM EVENT
I started the scene with smut BUT I wanted to point out that much of their time spent together is at Y/N dorm, Jungkook either napping, hanging out or doing work as Y/N would study like she always did. I liked the idea that Jungkook would get bored and would want attention from Y/N because she was so focused. Idk, I just wanted to write a love story about two people spending time together and figuring out how they fit in each other’s lives as opposed to some dramatic I mEeT HiM aNd mY LiFe bEcAmE cRaZy. There’s nothing wrong with that plot line, I just didn’t want that for these two dorks. I wanted Y/N to interact with JK’s scene and crowd but not give up her own which is why most days JK and her just lounged around in her dorm studying.
Also, I don’t know how the teacher/student roleplay made it into the smut, it just did, no further questions (ʃ⌣́_⌣́ƪ).
Then the event scene.
“You’re whipped, dude! Seriously.”
Jungkook felt his face go red, “Shut up, no, I’m not.”
“Hey, I’m not judging. I get it. That’s your girl.” Taehyung shrugged. Jungkook placed a hand on the fold up table in front of him, staring down at the information pamphlet you had worked so hard on.
“She’s just… so fucking driven and passionate about everything she does. Sometimes I look at her, and I’m just like… holy shit, what am I doing with a girl like her? I feel like she’s totally out of my league and being with me is holding her back but— I dunno, man. I just… really like her.” Jungkook revealed, voice growing small.
An unexpected wave of tenderness fell over the two boys, Taehyung throwing an arm over his little brother’s shoulder.
“I’m happy for you, bro.”
Jungkook didn’t know it just yet but dude was talking from the heart and, is in fact, totally whipped :’c
I loved the confrontation scene between the boys and Eunwoo because the boys standing up for Yara really did make everyone feel like a friend group, not just some character who happen to exist at the same time. It wasn’t just Y/N and Yara and one side and the boys on the other. They would all become friends, which is ideal to me. A boyfriend who likes your best friend and considers her a friend so you can all hang out??? Yes please.
Initially, irl Yara and I had noooo clue if Yara would end up with Eunwoo or not. That was actually the original goal actually. But after this chapter four, you guys made it ABUNDANTLY clear that you guys wanted to see Taeyara, despite the two never even meeting! Honestly, it wasn’t until this chapter was written that we decided for sure that Eunwoo was out of the picture for Yara. Part of me really wanted to keep Yara single, but irl Yara insisted on dick and frankly, she’s right. Bitchin’ Yara deserved a shot at love. She definitely has her own story outside of Bitchin’ and will experience a lot of growth in the future.
“God, I know. I do not miss that temper of his.” She chuckled, her words piquing your interest.
“Temper?”
“Oh, yeah. Have you seriously not experienced it yet? He’s got some gnarly anger issues. Not to mention all the lying…” Kiri paused suddenly, straightening up as she flashed you an apologetic look. “Yikes, I’m sorry. I totally should not be telling you this. I’m not trying to be that gross girl that shit talks her ex to his current girlfriend.”
Miss Kiri, Miss Kiri. She really acted up this chapter didn’t she. There was a lot of discussion about whether or not those things she said about Jungkook were true. Which was exactly what I wanted hehe. We come to find out that Kiri had definitely stretched the truth. She really is good at manipulation and understanding how people think and it’s why she is in the role that she is in. Messy queen.
CHAPTER SEVEN – THE ROOFTOP DATE
This entire chapter was inspired by High School Musical with Troy and Gabriella’s rooftop garden scenes. This was my shortest chapter and honestly, probably not my strongest. I definitely went into writing this with zero concept of what I actually wanted to happen. Usually when I write my chapters I have a 4k long outline of it beforehand that I go off of. Not this one though. I really just winged it and I tried my best to write a chapter that really showed off (dialogue wise) just how this couple bounces off each other. I do really like some of the banter they have in this chapter.
You had taken note a little wooden popsicle stick poking up from the soil of the yellow flowers. Acacias, they were marked. Pulling your knees up to your chest, you considered his words.
Yellow acacias stands the value of true friendship and can indicate a secret love! I thought that was very appropriate given these dummies' relationship.
“So, you probably know why I brought you here.”
You nodded.
“You’re proposing, right?”
“Yeah, I– oh, shut up.” He laughed, the serious mood shattering as you joined him.
Even though I knew they were going to have a semi serious talk, what with Y/N asking about what Kiri had told her, these two dufuses realistically are just too comfortable with each other to stay serious for too long.
“Hey, I said that out of frustration, I didn’t really mean it. I’m sure she’ll come crawling back soon.” You attempted to comfort him, hoping to sound sincere.
“Even if that’s true, I’m not entirely sure I want that anymore.”
“What?” You blinked. Jungkook shrugged.
“What about us?” He met your eyes, causing your breath to hitch.
“What about us?”
Jungkook stared at you for a moment, noting the way the timber in your voice had become higher pitched as if panicked.
MORE FUN FACTS LMFAO: I typically do this thing with unplanned chapters where I just go for it and write and usually it works out. But when I wrote this down I remember stopping and being like ??? WHY DID I JUST WRITE THAT ??? I don’t like deleting my writing so I had a serious think to myself about whether this was going to be the moment Jungkook confessed or not.
Canonly, I decided that Jungkook did in fact mean ‘us’ in a romantic sense, but because of the way you perceivably panicked at that possible meaning, he decided against taking the conversation in that direction, instead speaking about ‘us’ in a platonic sense. Poor kookie :(
“Stop. Listen to me, Jungkook, you’re a fucking great guy, okay? You’re charismatic and funny and care about your friends… sure, you almost ruined my event, but it was mostly to defend my best friend when Eunwoo got too pushy, right? You’re a good guy, meathead. I know I joke about your ego, but I really believe you’re capable of more than you think you are. Seriously, Kiri is so lucky to be the object of your affection.”
Jungkook watched the way the sun’s orange light kissed your face, a bittersweet feeling growing in his chest as he contemplated the object of his affection. Just a couple of months ago, he would have had no doubt about who held his heart, but as you held his stare, he found himself unsure and yet, entirely sure all the same.
“Jungkook? You okay?” You frowned, catching in the sadness in his eyes.
“Hm? Yeah, yeah. I just… realized something.”
“Oh? What’s that?”
“…It doesn’t matter.” He smiled, the gesture hardly reaching his eyes.
It’s in this moment that Jungkook decides that there is no way you hold the same affection towards him that he does to you. He mistakes your words of comfort as you pushing him away. You are so kind and encouraging and Jungkook loves you so much that hearing you insist about him ending back up with Kiri hurts him so bad.
But you are still unsure about your feelings and genuinely believe that's still what Jungkook wants. You’re just being a supportive friend!! :( It isn’t until the end of this chapter when Y/N has her talk with Yara that she realizes, oh man, she’s in deep.
CHAPTER EIGHT – THE MISTAKE
BLAH. This chapter is so BLAH, you know? Having to write this chapter was SO HARD. I texted irl Yara complaining about how much I hated having to put my characters through this and that I wanted to just end the story on chapter 7 and keep them happy forever. BUT ALAS! I had planned for this to happen from the start.
You tasted like the mint of your favorite brand of toothpaste. He imagined if he had caught you any later then the mint would have been accompanied by the taste of coffee, knowing the way you rarely started a day without a cup.
God, he had missed the taste of you.
What you guys didn’t see is Jungkook spending the night with Kiri, and immediately kicking her out, freaking out as the weight of guilt washed over him. He knew he had done nothing wrong, that you weren’t his real girlfriend, and that getting back together with Kiri was exactly what he had signed up for. It was what he should’ve wanted. But it wasn't… because you were what he wanted. And that was exactly what he was going to tell you as he marched over to your apartment.
But he panicked. His mind already decided that your answer to him would be no– that you didn’t feel the same. So he kissed you. He had you in the only way he was allowed to. He was selfish and impulsive and so incredibly scared that he ended up hurting the person he loved the most.
Initially though, I had Jungkook get back together with Kiri, not that he slept with her right before sleeping with Y/N. But I decided TEEHEE let me just make everything erupt into flames. However, I didn’t realize just how angry with Jungkook you guys would get. I remember thinking DAMMIT WAS THAT TOO SCANDALOUS?? I knew I was going to have to work hard for Jungkook to redeem himself to my readers.
“She wants to get back together.” Jungkook swallowed dryly, eyes wavering between yours as if to gauge your reaction.
“…Oh.”
You shook your head.
“I mean, wow! That’s… That’s great!” You smiled, something tearing apart inside you as the words left your lips.
“Y/N–”
“Seriously! This means it worked, right? This is exactly what you wanted to happen.” You enthused, turning your head so that he couldn’t see the way your eyes had welled up.
Jungkook’s heart was pounding in his ears, fighting the urge to wrap his arms around you.
“Yeah… yeah, no, you’re right. We did it.” He replied monotonously.
GOD THIS PART IS SO UNBELIEVABLY FRUSTRATING! JUST ADMIT YOU LOVE EACH OTHER YOU MORONS! This entire situation is so convoluted because there's so much information missing and not being expressed, I seriously want to ring my own neck rereading this bit.
“Are you mad?” He called out cautiously, a heavy feeling falling onto his chest.
“Why would I be mad?” You quipped back sharply, causing Jungkook to flinch. He shifted in his seat uncomfortably.
“I just thought… I mean we’ve been fooling around a lot lately, so I didn’t know if—”
“If what? I had feelings for you?” You scoffed. “Please, as if I’d ever fall for you.”
And there it was— everything Jungkook already knew but had been so afraid to hear. Of course, you didn’t feel for him what he felt for you. How could he have expected anything different?
IDIOTS!!! THEY'RE BOTH IDIOTS!!! I don't know how y'all put up with this for so long. Forgive me.
CHAPTER NINE – THE BREAK
Okay I actually love this chapter. And for many reasons. Let me break down the three scenes for you guys.
Scene one: Kiri confrontation
Kiri is definitely an opposing antagonist. She is constantly working against Y/N because of their interests directly conflicting. BUT. I would argue that the biggest antagonist to this story is the inner ones – Y/N and Jungkook's lack of ability to admit their feelings constantly holding them both back from their happy ending. That being said, a confrontation scene between Y/N and Kiri was MUCH needed. While I suppose I can understand why Kiri doesn't like Y/N, that doesn't change the fact that she has been disrespectful and catty. So miss Y/N had to put Miss Kiri in her place (•̀ᴗ•́)
Scene two: Yara and Tae at the library
Fanservice. That is all. LMFAOOO y'all reallllyyy wanted it to happen and who am I to deny my people what they want. It was really fun getting to explore my side characters and develop them through interactions outside the two main characters. IRL Yara also mentioned giving bitchin’ Yara and Tae their own chapter as a joke and I was like LOL BET. I fully was going to but then I got the idea for the next scene and was like ahh ok maybe not the whole chapter.
Scene three: Meeting with Erik
So. This was a SUPER last minute decision. Like, it wasn’t until I was writing this chapter that I planned on Erik making an appearance. I saw a tweet with someone saying their bitchin theories and they mentioned Erik appearing out of nowhere and I was like,,, HOLD ON!!!! That could be kind of spicy ≖‿≖
I knew for a fact JK was NOT going to be forgiven in this chapter; I needed a way to lay the situation out between the two dorks without trying to seem like I was trying to sway my audience in a way that didn't make sense to the story. Y/N was rightfully angry. But she wasn't only angry about the timing of the sex. She was angry that Jungkook went back to Kiri at all and there was no way she was going to admit that. So who better to lay it all out than calculated, unbiased third party Erik. He deserved some character development after all.
I also liked the idea that Y/N had, in theory, “romantic options.” Losing Jungkook didn’t mean the end of her life. Having my female lead stand on her own was very important to me.
CHAPTER TEN – THE END
RIGHT OF THE BAT I needed Jungkook to suffer. So that whole scene where he tries to interact with his old group only for his presence to make everything awkward MMMM yes, sweet revenge on my part.
You were surprised. His hair was no longer shaggy and long like you remembered it. Instead, it had been freshly cut, looking healthy and neatly styled for the first time since you met Jungkook.
THE WAY SO MANY PEOPLE COMMENTED ON THIS LINE “but Y/N liked it long?!?”  IS SO FUNNNYyyyy. So let me clarify a thing. Jungkook had always wanted to cut his hair right. The only reason he didn’t was because Y/N told him not to. With Y/N no longer in the picture to convince him out of it, he cut his hair. That’s really all there is to it skfjsjf.
You know, I had written this part around the time I had just finished up the third ch believe it or not. And it was COMPLETELY different. I had it planned that Yara and Y/N ignored him throughout class and Yara had gone back after the bell rang to go verbally assault JK. And as the two hashed it out, only then was that when Jungkook would realize that he liked Y/N after Yara literally spelled it out for him.
“You like her, dumbass!” Was what I had written Yara saying. I really had written him in denial for ten chapters, I was a whole sociopath (╥﹏╥). But ultimately, I decided that Jungkook came to that conclusion on his own and the decision to apologize to Y/N would have been made over winter break.
“You said Kiri came over asking for you back, yet you still came over and slept with me the next day. Even though the two of you had sex the night before. Do you understand how that makes me feel?”
“I’m—”
“Like garbage!" You emphasized, the white paint of the door somehow irritating you further. "I felt like I was something you threw away and picked back up whenever you felt like getting your dick wet.”
Your chest was rising and falling rapidly, and you tried your hardest to not let your emotions get the best of you.
“Not to mention to everyone else, it looks like you cheated on me. Which makes me look like a fucking idiot." You scoffed.
Jungkook said nothing in reply, which somehow made it easier to say all you should have said that day in your room.
“It just sucks to realize that someone you once cared about sees you as nothing more than a toy. It fucking sucks.”
Man :( writing this hurt my heart. I really, really, love bitchin!y/n and writing her hurting freaking stinks. But she had to speak her mind. She deserves the chance to get everything off her chest with the way Jungkook hurt her.
Your heart and mind were in constant paradox, torn between wanting him back and wanting him to know just how much he had hurt you. Your mind ultimately won the battle, of course, but as Jungkook stood just a few inches of drywood apart pouring his heart out, it was hard to say which major organ was responsible for your next words.
The creak of the door being pushed open sent Jungkook's eyes wide, revealing your hesitant form. You had your arms crossed over your chest as if to guard the contents inside of it.
You looked like an angel underneath the bathroom's blue fluorescent lights, beautiful and lovely, a stark contrast from your next crushing sentence.
“I slept with Erik.”
Hehe. Ofc my girl Y/N had to have a rebound!!! She knows that life goes on. However, as I wrote in, she definitely regretted it. It was kind of the same situation that Jungkook was in where he pursued something just because it was familiar and a distraction and not because he really wanted it. Both Y/N and Jungkook are flawed characters but that’s okay! If anything, Y/N’s mistake of sleeping with Erik is what allows her to forgive Jungkook. Knowing first hand how complicated their entire relationship really was.
“I don’t need you… but I don’t think I want a life without you.” You finished shyly.
Your eyes were locked with his when suddenly a small noise escaped him, eyes pulling away from yours as his head moved to attempt to hide the way his eyes had grown wet.
I got this line from one of my best friends after her ex broke up with her. It made me physically sad and really sympathize with her so I quickly wrote it down into my notes app to save for later LMAOOOO. Knowing that you are your own person and life will inevitably go on after losing someone, but that your heart still wants and is pleading for the one person you can’t have. SO SAD. I’m happy I got to use this line in one of my fics.
The note Jungkook wrote Y/N,,, imagine him not being able to sleep one night over winter break so he just writes down everything he should have told Y/N while he still had the chance. I’ll for real cry dude, he’s so cute. Also, the line about him buying you fluffy Halloween socks for Christmas went over people’s heads I think but HECK I THOUGHT THAT WAS SO FUNNY AND SWEET (because Y/N bought Christmas socks when it was Halloween teehee).
"Are you two dorks done crying?" Yara’s voice rang out suddenly, causing both of you to jump apart.
"Yara, you creep! Privacy, dude! Ever try knocking?" You sniffed, wiping at your face hurriedly.
"What? Like you were peeing with Jungkook in the bathroom? Please." She waved you off, walking back into the living room to give you two some privacy. She did say Jungkook had 15 minutes before she’d have to come back in after all. "Anyway, Tae will be over in 10 minutes for the Saved By The Bell marathon that’s on so you guys are more than welcomed to join." She called out from her newly seated position on the couch.
I included this scene with Yara because things were getting too serious for my liking ngl. Plus the idea that the four of them would all come together at the end for a much needed reunion made my happy bitchin heart soar.
Jungkook let out a laugh, his palm finding your cheek, eyes locked on your lips. You were preening for his kiss, mouth parting slightly as you anticipated it.
“Partners?”
The question took you by surprise, eyes widening at your not so pretend lover.
Idiot.
“Partners.” You smiled softly, eyes shiny and brimming with tears as he kissed you for what must have been the millionth time, but still somehow felt like the first.
UGH I LOVE THEM I REALLY DO. I was so happy with how this final scene came out :( They’re partners, they really are I miss these boneheads.
AND NOW, I PRESENT THE CANON FUTURE OF THE BITCHIN UNIVERSE...
10 YEARS LATER
Let’s be honest, Jungkook popped the question the day of graduation, he can’t imagine a life in which you wouldn’t be beside him
You said yes (shocker)
Cue Jungkook being the most wonderful partner and respecting your wish to finish your residency program before having the wedding
You absolutely kick ass at being a neonatal surgeon
Also, Jungkook started a film company! It’s small but he loves what he does and works with colleges and helps out the film majors with resources and equipment <3
SO IT'S THE DAY OF YOUR WEDDING RIGHT
Yara and your sisters are helping you get ready, with your best friend as the ever so reassuring maid of honor
And by that I mean you’re as calm as a cucumber and Yara is one wrong move away from having a stroke
“Y/N… Don’t freak out....The catering company put in two orders of shrimp instead of chicken and steak.”
“Yara, it’s okay.”
“NO ITS NOT???? THIS IS YOUR WEDDING DAY AND YOU’RE GETTING CRUSTACEANS.”
Y/N making Yara take a seat and practice some breathing exercises so she doesn’t upset the baby
Oh yeah, Yara is 10 weeks pregnant
Taehyung is the dad lol
Yara and Taehyung have been together ever since that day at the library hehe <3
They moved in together and adopted a cat and everything (sweet boy Tae wanted a dog but Yara’s afraid of dogs and Tae would do anything for that woman so Yeontan the cat it is)
Yara refuses to put a label on their relationship even after all this time, and Tae doesn’t ask for one. They’re happy and dedicated to each other and don’t feel the need to put pressure on something that’s already so perfect
Yara is actually violently in love with Tae but still scoffs when Y/N tries to bring it up
“Oh my god, you’re so in love with him”
“Huh??? you must be sick or something. Get well soon, damn :/”
Yara likes to come up with different labels for Taehyung every time she has to introduce him. Among her favorites are roommate, rent sharer, baby daddy and penis lender
Speaking of Taehyung, he’d have a hand on Jungkook’s shoulder as he tries to calm down the panicking groom to be
“JK, breathe.”
“What if she doesn’t show up? What if she doesn’t want to marry me? What if I pressured her into this and— and I’ve freaked her out and now she hates me?”
“Dude, you guys have been engaged for eight years. She’s had her opportunity to run. She’ll show up.”
Taehyung scruffing up the younger man’s hair reassuringly, which only flusters him more because DAMMIT he wants to look perfect for you and now his hair is messed up >:(
(You like him no matter what his hair looks like though)
Jungkook literally swallowing down a sob as you walk down the aisle and he lays his eyes on you for the first time
You having a dumb smile on your face the entire walk over because your husband to be is crying and you haven’t even exchanged vows yet
The entire audience going all sobby when you finally do exchange vows because they’re so beautiful and real
The ten years together has not been easy— from financial struggles as you tried to support yourself through med school, to personal conflicts when Jungkook wanted to start a family already
But you guys figured it out
You always do
He’s your person. And you are his.
Y/N’s sisters Rosa and Lia are a WRECK— even your dad is tearing up
Your family loves Jungkook and have been counting down the days until you guys married, let’s be honest
“You may now kiss the bride.”
Jungkook punching the air with a “FINALLY!” before kissing the hell out of you
The cutting of the cake inevitably turning into a food fight
The shrimp entrees turning out to be pretty damn good
Yara catching the bouquet and wagging her brows at Taehyung suggestively
Jungkook pulling you aside to take photos of you outside the venue because you look so so pretty and he loves the way you smile when he’s the one behind the camera
The party is in full session, your siblings tearing up the dance floor like the extroverts they are
You and Jungkook are sat at the head of the room, hands intertwined underneath the table as you watch a tired and painfully sober Yara swing her bare feet onto Taehyung’s lap, requesting a foot rub
Watching your pregnant best friend and her lover together, you turned towards your own, smile impossibly wide
“What?”
“Let’s have a baby.” You’d grin, so stupid happy
Jungkook’s eyes going round and immediately jumping up from his seat because god that’s all he’s ever wanted
Being tugged out the room by a giddy Jungkook, one of your heels flinging off somewhere behind you.
“What’s happening? Where are we going?!”
The two of you find yourself in a storage room somewhere on the hotel floor
“Jeon Jungkook, what the hell—“
His mouth find yourself, kissing you in a way that couldn’t at the altar
You kissed him back without questions, arms wrapping around the man you now called your husband
“I love you.” He’d sigh into your neck, his hot breath causing you to shiver
“I love you too.”
“Let’s make a baby.”
“Yeah let’s— wait, right here? Right now?!”
Jungkook merely nodding as his mouth found the exposed skin of your chest
“Meathead, we can’t just ditch our wedding to have sex!”
“Why not? We did our marital duties. Now it’s our guests' job to get embarrassingly drunk and make a fool of themselves on the dance floor. No one will even miss us.”
“Isn’t baby making what our honeymoon is for?”
“Screw that. I’ve done my waiting. Let’s start our family, nerd.”
Jungkook kissing your protests silent before you inevitably give in and let him take you right there and then, your wedding dress hung around your hips
Husband and wife coming together with shaky breaths and hushed moans as they promise the rest of their lives to each other, making every argument, struggle or moment of uncertainty leading up to now totally worth it
Walk of shame back into the party with nervous hair fixing from you and a proud grin from Jungkook
Yara figuring out exactly why you two had sneaked off to, flashing the newly weds a knowing smirk
The night of your wedding, Jungkook surprises you with a present
You unwrap it in confusion, only to see that it’s a glass frame and inside of it is the wrinkled and worn out lined paper the two of you had scribbled on many many years ago
Jungkook hangs up the contract right above your bed as per your request, smiling as he does and jumping on him the moment he puts down the hammer bc dammit it you’re too heckin excited to make love with your sentimental loser of a husband
And yes, by the next month, you are pregnant and incredibly happy
And of course, your daughter and Yara’s son grow up to be best friends, not a family holiday passing by where they aren’t told the story of the totally bitchin’ way both set of their parents got together

Note
Hey first date of cashier damian with a little butting in from the co workers and Gerald ?
co workers and gerald coming up
• Gerald TikTok is feralgerald
• so anyways.
• I’ll have 2 separate dates, but I feel like Gerald gets to see the first one and then I’ll do something special for the 3rd
Gerald:
• jon went to pick Damian up for their date, Damian had finally agreed to go on a date with Jon after months
• jon was excited
• it was Friday night, around 9 pm, Damian was gonna leave his shift early that night so they could go see a new movie
• damian and gerald were working that night
• jon was so hyped for the date, he came in with water lilys for Damian, he looked it up and one of the things it symbolized was hope and celebration. jon is celebrating the fact Damian finally said yes. Also damians favorite flower is water Lily’s
Jon: Dames!!
Damian: shut up, jon, im busy
Gerald: oh! look everyone! the two love birds are in the same room again.
Jon: restocking, you can pay attention to me! or am i just too distracting;)
Gerald: gosh jon reminds me of a young name.. Damian is like my first wife, a wild spitfire..
Damian: you’re too distracting because you’re a lunatic
• Gerald was on live ( Damian and jon both said they were okay with being filmed if it was something as mundane as them flirting talking, but if something else happened? nah
• jon and damian were both good kids Gerald loved to talk to, they were good for each other, too, Gerald noticed it the first time he met jon. he hoped they would stick around with each other
• damians shift soon ended and Damian fid a farewell to Gerald to go on a date with Jon
Gerald: don’t have too much fun out there, kids!!
Brad:
• saturday shift, Damian was going to go to breakfast with Jon before brad stopped then
Brad: oh oh oh oh wait a second! It’s not time for you to go yet, ian!
Damian: don’t call me that! It’s Damian, not *gag* ian
Brad: you did not answer my question 👀
Damian: we’re going to breakfast
Brad: five minutes early? why? it a special occasion?
Jon: it is! It’s our second date!
Damian: JON!
Brad: you two are dating and you didn’t tell me???????!
Damian: oh my god
Brad: cmere jon, * jon comes over * you’re a good kid, you gotta take care of Damian before he gets arrested for something dumb. but you also can’t hurt him. but I know Damian? he would probably hurt you more if you hurt him. But have fun!!
Jon:
Damian: what the fuck, brad
Rosa
• the woman was just bagging groceries up for a customer when Jon comes waltzing in
• damians shift started at 1, ( it’s Sunday ) jon was here at 11:45am
• rosa was confused until jon walked up to her
Jon: I need help
Rosa: uh, sure, sweetheart, what’s up?
Jon: I need to ask Damian out to homecoming..
Rosa: awww!
Jon: I have a big idea! I got these fake water lilys from Amazon.. and I wanna.. like set them up to spell out: will you go to homecoming with me?
Rosa: that sounds perfect!
Jon: can you help me? I just need a area to do it
Rosa: of course, come on, you can do it in the break room
• so jon set it up
• but he spelt it wrong: can u come to homcoming
• damian still said yes and laughed a lot
But here’s a small one shot of their first date that isn’t completely finished but:
Once the duo left the store, they headed out to Jon’s car, both of them flushed red in excitement. Damian had gotten changed quickly into the outfit he had brought for this date, even putting extra time and effort into his appearance. Look, if he’s going out, he’s going allllll out.
Jon found Damian absolutely stunning, he’s always stunning, but he’s extra stunning today. After months of flirting and breaking through Damian’s exterior, he finally got the chance to take him out. On a date. Not like.. killed.
( “Can i take you out?” Jon asked quietly as he parked the car in front of Damian’s apartment, blue eyes shining with hope before Damian slapped him.
“What the fuck! No?! You’re not killing me!”
“NO. That’s not— OW! That is not what I meant..”
“What did you mean?”
“On a date..” as soon as those words left Jon’s lips, Damian’s heart stopped, sure Jon has asked a lot, but this time was really different.. Damian knew he looked like he just ate a hot chilly pepper, so all he did was nod. He nodded really hard, he knew that if he spoke, he would sound like an idiot. )
Damian was fidgeting s lot, tapping his fingers on his thighs, messing with the silver rings on his fingers.. until Jon took his hand.
“It’s okay. Don’t worry, it’s just me, it’s just like we’re hanging out. But romantically,” Jon laughed, his laugh was so so so pretty. Damian couldn’t believe someone like Jon would like him. Damian had heard Jon complain about the countless girls and boys asking him out at school, he also learned that Jon hated turning people down so it was always awkward. Why did Jon even settle for him? He didn’t know.
But Jon drove them to the movies and got out, opening the door for Damian.. because what else would you expect? And then they walked in to get the tickets. They watched the movie together, got dinner together, and walked around until Jon took him back to his apartment.
“I had fun,” Damian finally spoke for the first time since they entered the car.
“Me too, can we do it again?”
“Yeah. I’d like that.”
Damian opened the car door before shutting it and leaning over the console to peck Jon’s lips quickly before he got out, slammed the door shut, and then ran inside, leaving Jon red and grinning like a mad man.

Traditionally Obscure Chapter 37
Here we go. Meet the Family take 2.
Previous Chapter
Tumblr media
The wild air felt so great in her lungs as she stepped off the small plane. Vyn hadn’t told her that they were going to use a family-owned aviation company. Well, nothing like flying when you have the gusto and money. She probably had one too many champagnes on the flight, but Vyn found it quite entertaining.
Rosa nearly tripped, but of course, Vyn dropped their bags swift enough to catch her in a dipped hold with a smile. “Falling for me, Rosa?” he questioned.
She laughed and caressed his cheek while her face darkened. “How could I not?”
He chuckled and righted her on her feet before adjusting his shirt. “I’m glad you enjoyed the flight.”
“I’m glad you brought your cards for us actually to play this time,” she giggled and wrapped her arm around his.
The last three weeks have gone by in such a beautiful blur. Work melding with time with Vyn and Luke had become really close to Vyn, which was Rosa’s surprise. They even took her to an archery range where Vyn instructed her on the proper ways to shoot a bow.
Scathing kisses had become less potent and more a beautiful blending of soft caresses and slow tempo sighs. Which Rosa really couldn’t get enough of. It was safe to say; she truly enjoyed kissing the brilliant psychiatrist.
Marius even stole a Saturday last week and took them both to an art exhibit to his clear frustration. He finally swallowed defeat when Vyn was in a heavy conversation with someone he knew from another college and introduced her as his partner. Rosa almost felt bad for him, but he would recover.
Now they were getting to visit Ester, Sasha, and Elsa. This was actually something Rosa looked forward to because it was technically their first trip as a couple. Kiki did say that was an impressive thing and needed to be celebrated. They’d been together a month? Time certainly had a way of moving swiftly when people were happy.
The car ride from the airport wasn’t going to be long. Rosa got to work on her hair, using her mirror to double-check and ensure the hair clip was sitting well. She put on some lip balm and glanced over to see Vyn smiling and watching with curiosity.
“What?” she questioned.
He chuckled and shook his head. “I was admiring how you enjoy being presentable. I am fond of your primping when the occasion calls for it.”
She put away her mirror and leaned toward him. “Dr. Richter, are you doing a character assessment on me?” Rosa teased as her fingers traced his hand.
“Never, Rosa,” he murmured and bent closer to her. “Unless you think that’s needed,” he lowered her tone and tilted his head.
She cleared her throat and dropped her vision as her cheeks darkened. Something new developed in her feelings, and it bubbled in her abdomen like warm fluttering fireflies. He would take that tone of voice, and it would cause her to burn.
His cool fingers touched her cheek. “My sweet Rose,” he sighed.
She smiled and met his gaze. “Are you looking forward to seeing your cousins and aunt?”
Vyn nodded. “Very much. My aunt was so excited to hear that you were coming. She was concerned that you wouldn’t want to.”
“Of course I did! I mean, they were so kind and sweet last time,” Rosa declared.
Vyn glanced out the car window a moment before in a sudden movement, gripping her for a kiss. Rosa sighed, and with the force of his gravitational pull he seemed to have on her, she was closing the gap between them. Oh, these kisses!
She was always so hungry for them, and apparently, he agreed. The seatbelt was in her way from completely wrapping her arms around his shoulders. However, Vyn must have removed his because he drew closer and his hands were in her locks. The deep rumble that left his throat made Rosa squirm. It was so primal? Yes, that was a great word for it.
“Your Grace,” The man in front called out.
Vyn groaned and pulled from Rosa. “Are we approaching?”
“Yes, Your Grace,” The man declared.
Vyn exhaled and raced a hand through his hair while Rosa wiped her lips. That was unexpected, to say the least. Vyn was passionate in doses, but that was… what was the word that Kiki used? Ravishing? Rosa fanned her face and glanced out at the familiar border to the estate.
The concept that the rules were indeed different in Svart didn’t grow lost on her. That might be the last of those types of kisses for the weekend. Hopefully, the driver wasn’t too much of a chatterbox. Although, Vyn seemed to be unconcerned as he straightened his attire and smiled.
“Ah, it seems that Alex is here,” he said while noting the bright red sports car in the guest parking.
Rosa inhaled and adjusted her burgundy dress. “Do, Vyn, is this alright?”
He chuckled. “Of course, you look beautiful, Rosa. I’ve never seen you this nervous about your attire.”
“Well,” she murmured and rubbed the side of her neck. “I’m just being positive. I represent you well enough,” she confessed and simpered while glancing over at him.
Vyn reached over and caressed her cheek as the car parked. “You’re a marvelous and brilliant woman. You don’t need to fuss over your attire when the only place someone is going to be looking is your smile.”
She beamed and breathed. “You look handsome as well.”
He laughed and ran his thumb over her cheekbone. “Thank you.”
Her car door opened from the driver, and he smiled and bowed. “My Lady,” he said.
Rosa curtseyed and nodded. “Thank you for your service,” she said in a very unsure tone in Svartish.
He chuckled and bowed again. “You're welcome.”
The driver hurried over to the other side and assisted Vyn with his door. Rosa flexed her legs and rolled her neck as the men talked for a moment. She caught bits and pieces; it mostly had to do with the schedule tomorrow. Rosa knew she couldn’t speak it well, but Vyn had given her a whole audible book on the language for her to practice independently.
“Rosa!” A voice screeched over the area.
Rosa glanced to the house and saw both the girls practically running out to the car. “Rosa! Rosa, you’re here!” Sasha shouted and then enveloped her in a tight embrace.
She laughed and stroked their blond heads. “Oh, I missed you too!”
“Vilhelm! Mor, Rosa and Vilhelm are here!” A small voice cried.
The girls pulled away just in time for Rosa to observe the boy nearly launching himself into Vyn. The man picked him up with a laugh. “My, Langdon, you’ve grown in a month. What have you been eating?” Vyn asked.
“Cow hearts!” Langdon laughed and flexed his arm.
“Cow hearts?” Rosa scowled.
Sasha and Elsa laughed. “You understood him?”
Rosa tilted her head. “If he said cow hearts.”
“It’s a joke,” Vyn chuckled and set Langdon on his feet. “Shall we go inside?”
Vyn offered his hand, and the girls yammered about what they missed in a month. Rosa squeezed his fingers and nodded as they spoke about their lessons, the estate, and how much they looked forward to tomorrow.
The cousins didn’t miss the hand-holding and were grinning as they stopped near the sitting room. “Are you both courting?” Elsa gasped.
“Yes,” Rosa nodded.
Sasha jumped in place. “Vil! Oh, we just knew it. Didn’t we tell Mor? We told her you both would!”
“When’s the engagement party?” Elsa gasped.
“Wait, no, there’s no ring,” Rosa huffed and waved her left hand.
Elsa crossed her arms. “Vilhelm, you want to marry her. Why isn’t there a ring?”
“Silly girls, allow your cousin to come in and greet his aunt,” Ester said from the sitting room.
The girls pouted, but Rosa smiled and touched each of their cheeks before walking into the sitting room with Vyn. He didn’t release her fingers as the occupants of the room were revealed. There was a bulky man with silvery blond hair and light brown eyes, Alex, and of course Ester.
“My nephew,” Ester beamed.
Vyn approached and released Rosa’s hand only to bow. “Your Majesty,” he said.
“Ah, my darling, don’t be so formal. Please, sit,” Ester laughed and waved off the formality.
The man rose to his feet and bowed deeply. “Your Grace, it’s wonderful to see you’re home.”
“Lord Stephan, this is my partner, Rosa. Rosa, this is my second cousin, Stephan Haspran. You remember Alexandria,” Vyn declared as he gestured to the pair.
Alex beamed and waved. “Partner now, Vilhelm? I see you put into action what I told you to do. Now, where’s the ring?”
“Yes! We asked the same,” Elsa huffed.
Langdon glanced at Rosa’s hand and shrugged. “They’re not married.”
“Forgive them,” Vyn sighed as he turned his attention to Rosa. “Marriage is a massive cornerstone in tradition. Mostly for the guests to partake in large amounts of alcohol and jump into rivers. Correct, Stephan?”
Stephan huffed and shook his head. “You’re never going to let me live that down, Vil?”
Rosa smiled and shrugged her shoulders. “Forgive me for being a bit naive in this respect, My Lord and Lady. Marriage really wasn’t a concept I sought unless it had to do with my career.”
“Similar to your partner,” Ester snorted.
“She’s so sweet, Vil. What’s she doing with you?” Stephan teased and patted his shoulder. “I’m happy to see you.”
“Now sit, please,” Ester grumbled and gestured to the loveseat. “Ladies, go grab the ottoman and sit with your cousin at the table, please.”
Vyn led Rosa to the sofa, and they sat down. Ester leaned over her armchair toward him and kissed his cheek. “I missed you.”
“I missed you as well. Your phone calls have been illuminating,” He nodded.
Ester gestured to Rosa and beamed. “My dear girl, I’m so delighted to see you. I had an inkling that you both were headed down the path of affection long before you left.”
“Long before they arrived, if Vilhelm’s discomfort was any nod to it,” Alex laughed.
“Alex,” Stephan sighed. “Please? They had a long flight.”
Rosa gazed at Vyn and smiled. “Probably.”
“Probably?” Vyn questioned.
“If what you said was true, you never embellished your feelings. I just took a second to catch up,” Rosa voiced and rocked her head.
He chuckled and nodded. “I am a patient man, Rosa.”
“Don’t be too patient. You need an heir!” Alex taunted and ruffled her son’s hair.
Vyn cleared his throat and gave the feisty woman his attention. “Where’s your daughter?”
“Likely up from her nap soon. The governess is with her,” Alex declared.
A female worker walked into the room with a tea tray and gasped. “Your Grace!”
“Calm down, dear. You’re going to break the china,” Ester giggled.
Rosa watched as the woman set down the tray and shakily began to prepare the tea for everyone. She glanced at Vyn twice with crimson cheeks. He looked at Rosa and bent toward her.
“I’m relieved you’re here,” he whispered in her ear.
She beamed while squeezing his hand. “I’m happy to be of service, Your Grace,” she breathed.
The most unattractive snort came from his nose, and he pulled from her. Rosa had to cover up her laughter, and they grinned at each other. It wasn’t often she shattered his reserved nature, but there wasn’t denying it on this occasion.
The worker handed out the tea and plates before scurrying out of the room with a bow. It wasn’t even a concern as the pair shrugged and smiled at each other. Was Vyn concerned she’d be jealous of some girl blushing over him? Rosa could almost laugh more at that than his reaction to her tease.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this enraptured before, Vyn,” Ester hummed.
He melted back to a more serene state and smiled at her. “No, I don’t think you have.”
“It is true. Vilhelm always has been quite stoic,” Sasha nodded.
“It is,” Elsa agreed.
Langdon sipped his mug of what appeared to be hot cocoa. “Vilhelm, are you going to get married and move home then? Father did say you would.”
Stephan huffed and bent to his son. “What did I say about repeating secrets?”
“How long is a typical courtship before engagement?” Rosa scowled.
Alex was grinning as she tilted her head. “On average? Six months? A year is likely due to the families not agreeing on terms.”
Rosa blinked as her cheeks darkened. “Isn’t that a short amount of time to get to know someone?”
Vyn cleared his throat. “Rosa, you have to remember, most of the families that still go by this tradition have known each other longer than that. Which is why that doesn’t apply here,” He said, and his eyebrows sank in the slightest while staring at Alex.
“My wife is rather insistent, Rosa. I apologize for her aggressive tongue,” Stephan smiled.
“She’s perfect for him. What’s so wrong in wanting my Vilhelm happy?” Alex snorted.
“Had I realized we were going to be dissecting my relationship, I would have let Rosa refresh herself while you got it out of your system, Alexandria,” Vyn hummed.
Rosa shrugged and glanced over at Ester. “How have things been this month?”
“Oh, my dear Rosa. Things have been quite busy! My daughters have been with their tutor most days. I’ve been keeping myself busy with my own work. It has been charming. I miss my husband dearly, but I get to see him every night,” Ester explained with a soft smile.
“How so?” Rosa frowned.
“In my dreams,” she said and touched her heart. “Love, it never leaves you. He may not physically be here, but he is always with me until time fades.”
Rosa touched her chest and bowed her head. “That’s such a beautiful testament of love, Your Majesty.”
Elsa and Sasha whispered to each other for a moment and stood up. “Mother, we’ll be right back. We have a gift for Rosa we’d like to go retrieve.”
Ester gestured for them to leave, and the girls skipped off. Alex grinned and spoke to Ester with a circular motion to her hand. “Convince him to get married so they can have little ones, aunt.”
Rosa’s cheeks darkened, and she cleared her throat as Vyn pressed his hand to his face. “Alex, Rosa has learned a fair amount of Svartish since last month. She understands you well enough. Please desist.”
Alex laughed and covered her mouth. “My apologies, Rosa.”
“It wasn’t that difficult. It’s Latin based,” Rosa murmured as she shifted in her seat.
Luckily Rosa could sip her tea and eat the pastries. The conversation tapered to Vyn asking Stephan about the estates and how the North has been. Stephan showed clear respect and care for Vyn’s questions and opinions.
The conversation was only interrupted by a woman walking into the room with a fussing baby. She spoke swiftly in French to Alex before rocking the child.
“Olivia is going to give me such heart pains,” Alex sighed and gestured for the woman to walk forward.
Rosa examined the unclaimed governess with her greying dark hair and green eyes. They spoke to each other a moment, and then the woman bent to Langdon. “Come along. We must meet your fencing tutor.”
“Remember what I taught you,” Vyn said.
Langdon jumped up and took his stance. “In the gut!” He exclaimed and patted his stomach.
“That’s right, your core is your balance and strength,” Vyn nodded.
Stephan shook his head with a smile. “You listen to Vilhelm. He was the best fencer I’ve ever met.”
Langdon waved and shouted his goodbyes, making the baby cry more as he left with the governess. Alex puffed and rocked the infant with a scrunched brow.
“And you want to push motherhood on her,” Stephan snorted.
“Don’t you dare judge me, Steph. I was up with her all night,” Alex groaned and stood up.
“Believe it or not, we love each other, Rosa,” Stephan sighed and smiled.
Rosa giggled and rocked her head. “I believe it.”
“Would you like to try?” Alex asked as she swayed and winced.
“Oh, are you,” Rosa stopped and stood up. “You’re in pain.”
“Just a ruddy backache. Stephan has one too. Our nursemaid came down with illness this last week. We've been taking turns,” Alex sighed.
Rosa rubbed Alex’s back, and she exhaled. “I mean, I’ve never,” she sputtered as her cheeks darkened.
Alex snorted and pivoted, offering the child. “Just like that, she’ll lay on your chest; you just hold her like that,” she instructed while assisting. Well, not assisting. Practically pushing the baby on her.
Rosa breathed, and Alex nodded while swaying with an invisible baby in her arms. “Like this?” she asked.
Alex nodded. “Yes, now, give me five minutes, and I will take her back. Liv, she’s a fusser,” she sighed and slumped back onto the sofa next to Stephan.
“She’s not even here for an hour, and you have her doing labor for you?” Stephan questioned.
Rosa stifled a smile as they bickered, and she walked Olivia. There was something almost calming about it as the infant settled some and cooed. Had she ever held a being this small? She turned around from her bouncing pace toward the shelves.
Vyn was watching, and his eyebrows were raised. Rosa had seen this expression but in a different light. It was of shock, which wasn't usual for him, but there was another tint to it.
“See, she’s a natural. I was right. You know, you should give me more credit for knowing when our daughter would relax with someone,” Alex smirked.
Ester covered her smile and shook her head. “Alex, my dear, you need some rest.”
Vyn stood up and cleared his throat. “I shall go see what is keeping my cousins.”
No one had time to reply as he left the room. Rosa blinked and glanced at the doorway before staring at Ester. “Was something wrong?” she questioned.
Ester smiled and shook her head. “No, Rosa. Sometimes men just need a moment to think.”
“That’s the truth. Why don’t you go track down Vilhelm, Stephan?” Alex asked.
Stephan climbed from his seat with a wince and paced up toward Rosa. “Thank you for holding Olivia for us. It isn’t as bad as we make it seem,” he chuckled.
“I’m not judging. It can’t be easy,” Rosa laughed.
“It isn’t, but I wouldn’t do it with anyone else,” Stephan smiled and left the room.
“If you want, you can sit and rock her gently, Rosa. She’s nearly asleep,” Alex offered.
Rosa paced back over to the loveseat and relaxed in her former spot. She rocked, and soon the ladies fell into the topic of children. Rosa listened with mild fascination at the two women steadily ahead of her in something she never thought about. It was beyond anything she quite understood before then.

burnout only feels like burning
2.7k / Summary: kyle valenti doesn't have the same quarantine as his friends; an exploration of kyle's trauma during covid as a doctor. (tw depression & other triggers you’d imagine with this subject)
read & comment/ ao3
A little like the virus itself, Kyle’s relationship with his mask begins with worry, annoyance, and then pain. He’s more than happy to have the proper N-95 mask as they begin to get their first case at Roswell General but then a couple more patients trickle in and within a few days his skin is irritated and itching. Maybe it’s the news, maybe it’s the texts from his friends that he’s increasingly missing, but when the Regiment starts spouting off about how COVID is a joke he thinks it might be affecting his nerves too. By week three his former red mark left by the mask has become a permanent feature to his face and by week five it’s not a mark but a bruise instead. Blisters and cracks in his skin litter his hands from over-washing. His feet become so overused the pads of his feet feel numb and bruised and he wears through an entire pair of shoes.
Positivity has fled from his life by week seven and now he’s inside of a survival mode he’s never experienced. He thought after last year he’d be used to anything the world (or universe, rather, given all these aliens) could throw at him. Now what feels foolish, he had believed that there was nothing that could be worse than the previous pain of losing a patient or finding out his father had experimented on people’s lives.
When he’s out of ventilators and CPAP machines because Albuquerque needs them more and he has to choose whether or not to save the life of an eighty five year old or a thirty two year old he remembers from high school, he breaks.
Guilt is one thing, grief is another, but the pure rage he feels knowing that Max Evans is out on the town patrolling as some fucking cop and not someone who could heal most of this hospital makes him want to commit actual murder. Maybe trading the blood of an alien on his hands would feel less heart-wrenching. But no. Max had brought back Rosa and had paid the price. Quelling his anger, he went back to work.
He slept at the hospital most nights in the height of it. Sure the couch was rough, but it was better than the other on-call doctor beds down the hall. Three twelve hour ER shifts of a usual work week doubled to five days of thirteen hour shifts. Soon there’s a week where he pulls double shifts for an entire week when one of his nurses is urgently hospitalized herself. Hospital directors had left them with no PPE except contaminated masks to reuse. Maria, Isobel, and Rosa are in the forefront of a drive to make and donate masks to his hospital after some social media posts that he doesn’t even see until the cloth masks arrive and his medical assistants give him their handwritten note. It makes him smile, but smiling feels so foreign that he almost wants to break from that.
Visitors are no longer allowed which means Kyle isn’t allowed to use his bedside manner to comfort the family of patients. He has to facetime mothers, spouses, and children and hold the phone over a patient who can’t breathe without machine assistance and pretend that everything is fine and that there’s still hope despite the hypoxia and lack of rising vitals. Ignore that if the patient goes into cardiac arrest more than once, the kindest thing to do given prognosis is to let the patient pass. Resuscitation and DNR (a patient’s begging request to not be resuscitated) becomes a word he uses in his daily work and not simply for intense surgeries.
Exhaustion isn’t a deep enough adjective to describe the fugue state he goes into. File to file, room to room, ventilator to next… he isn’t surprised when his body starts to wear down. When he no longer feels hunger and instead feels all too hot and dizzy. Telling himself it’s just because of how much he’s exerting his body while covered in layers and layers of protective clothing doesn’t help the fact that he’s starting to have more trouble breathing as he walks the hallways at a fast pace. When he begins to cough, he does what he promised himself he wouldn’t do and drives out post-shift to the desert cabin of Max Evans.
Part of him is too desperately tired to knock, but when he arrives on the property with the cop car idle and the house dark and at peace for the night, his fury greets him with the embrace of a long-lost friend. Knuckles pound at the wood and Max answers the door with surprise and a general look of defense, and Kyle tries not to immediately punch him in the face at the fact he looks like he had woken up from a comfortable sleep.
“Heal me.” Kyle manages to spit out.
 “I—what’s wrong?”
“Beginning stages of respiratory distress, fever, nausea—what do you fucking think?”
“Kyle—,” Max starts to say, the hesitation deepening, and that does it.
“No. I have not asked you for anything in all of this, Evans. Anything!” He shouts, voice hoarse. “Not when people got sick, not when they started dying, not even when we started having to let people die on purpose. And you know what? I wasn’t going to even come and ask you now, but I can’t get sick when I’m the one here fucking saving lives out of the two of us and you’re just cruising the streets handing out goddamn traffic tickets.”
Max’s face isn’t stony like it usually is when Kyle’s yelling at him; this time it’s crushed and guilty but not nearly enough. “What kind of hours you work this week, Evans? A nice 8 to 4? Did you get facetime with Isobel or your mom, maybe binge through a few books and movies after you’re home? Did you sit down and eat a nice dinner and or go over to drink a few beers with Guerin since you can’t get sick? Even get a nice eight hours of sleep in your own bed in your nice quiet home?”
 No response.
“I am not asking to sequence your DNA like Liz. All I am asking is for you to let me heal people since you don’t want to.”
A night breeze is all that makes noise for a moment as Kyle catches his breath and glares at Max, who stands quietly but is staring down at his boots before he finally looks up and nods. Max steps forward then, and Kyle sees that his eyes are actually filled with tears. Temper deflating, but still not subsiding entirely, given that not much else is able to be done; Kyle lets Max place a hand on his shoulder and feels the extremely weird feeling spread throughout his body. Something more electric than anything else, which God knew made a lot more sense concerning his powers and how the body operated with electrical nerve impulses, but that is a train of thought better left for another day. He wants to just walk away, and he almost does, but he still mutters a “thank you” before he does so.
When his nurse dies a few days later and he watches as the staff double bag her body to take to the morgue, he escapes to his office and crashes on his couch with sobs. There’s no one here to support him. He can’t go to his mother’s home and collapse into one of her comforting embraces without risking infecting her. He can’t get wasted at the Wild Pony with Maria when it’s closed. He can’t visit Rosa or Arturo at the Crashdown. Keeping his friends and family safe meant keeping them away from him. Keeping them safe meant he needed to stop pushing his head into his hands to try and control the sound of his crying and get back to work at saving the lives around them.
He gets put on leave by the hospital administrator when he’s almost arrested for decking Wyatt Long in the hospital parking lot as the idiot stood outside with a sign rallying Regiment members to make sure the hospital was told it was killing people on purpose for the election. If Jenna hadn’t been the officer on duty he would have been cuffed and put on record, jeopardizing his license, but there was some self-preserving part of him that desperately wished for his practice to be over anyway. He’s not even sure how Jenna handles it, honestly, all he remembers is her dropping him off at his house from her patrol car like she had been nothing but an uber. No matter how angry and adamant he gets, his boss refuses to bend, saying it’s for his own good given the connections the Long’s have in the town and how Kyle has worked almost 74 of the past 76 days.
Alex is the first to visit him, unannounced. When the doorbell rings Kyle is mindlessly pretending to watch some tv show in his living room that’ll distract him from his consuming thoughts about patients, so he doesn’t get up to answer. He checks his silent phone to see if he was forewarned of a visitor but sees nothing. Unsure if it’s his boss or a patient’s family, he forces himself up onto his sore feet and opens the door after grabbing a regular mask off the coffee table. Black face mask on and standing further out from the door on the porch is Alex, the usual gruff hello turned into something soft. “Hey.”
Kyle heaves a sigh. He had wondered when the pity visits would begin. “Hey. You really shouldn’t be around me, you know.”
“I’m clearly a minimum of eight feet away in an open space while masked.” Alex smarts back. “Either way, I’m worried about you.”
Scoffing, he shakes his head. “Don’t fucking worry about me. Worry about getting sick, because if I have to see another person I care about die, I--,”
“Kyle.” the other says too kindly, the sort of pacifying voice Alex reserved for only the most dire situations. “I have no idea what you’re dealing with in specifics, but my experiences do overlap with yours in some places.”
“And?”
Maybe it came out a little too rude, because Alex raises a brow, but then sighs instead. “And I’m just checking in to make sure you know people care about you.”
“Thanks, Manes.” Kyle huffs in return, managing not to roll his eyes because focusing on being blunt and abrasive was so much easier.
“Just be careful.” Alex interjects before Kyle could close the door and turn back to his show. “Dealing with the trauma of what you’re dealing with gets dark very quickly.”
“Because I punched Wyatt Long?” he spits back sarcastically.
“No, because the suicide rates for healthcare professionals are drastically increasing along with the rates of PTSD diagnoses.” Alex says flatly, ever one to be unfazed by sarcasm. “And I’ve lost more active duty members to suicide than I have combat.”
Kyle pauses, caught. Maybe Alex had known he would be, because there isn’t some way he can give a smile and reassuring wave with him like he could his mother or Liz. While Kyle hadn’t actively thought of a plan, he couldn’t pretend he had noticed signs of depression the second he was alone in his house.
“The quiet is the worst part, right?” Alex says, all but reading his mind. “Not always because of the flashbacks, although those are horrible, but because if things are quiet then--,”
“--people are dying.” Kyle finishes, his voice raspier by the end of the three words. “Yeah, well, mine still are.”
“They’re going to.” Is what felt like a cold response, but somehow gave Kyle the understanding he’s been craving. “They’re going to die and because of your profession you’re going to be able to save some of them. Which will make you think you’re responsible to save all of them and because you’re a good person you’re going to feel guilty in ways that no one will understand for being human and failing to.”
“Failing is all I do lately.” Kyle replies. “Usually the wins feel higher than the losses as a doctor, but with this-- and no one outside of it cares. They go outside and yell about how this is about a fucking election and when it’s not the patients, it’s the hospital pretending they don’t have enough money to buy us proper protection. Or the government saying this will all go away and that it’s just a light cold.”
Alex gives a small nod. “I know. I also know telling you the same advice that you’d give another doctor of trying not to burn out and instead taking a small rest is useless. So I’m just going to drop off these dvd’s and make you report back to me the difference when you’re done.”
Star Trek and Star Wars. Kyle finds a smile tug on his lips. Alex leaves with one on his as well.
When he gives a response to Alex a few days later on how Star Wars is better not more than a few minutes later Deluca is texting him with recommendations on joining her Buffy the Vampire Slayer rewatch. There’s something sweet about the fact that people have been clearly talking about him, even if definitely borderline creepy with how nosy his circle of friends can be, but he sighs and lets Maria add him to the group chat she has with Rosa and Liz where they review each episode after the fact and even chimes in every now and then. Isobel gets added not long after due to an Instagram story Maria shares and then the group has moved onto Friends after everyone shoots down Liz for suggesting Grey’s Anatomy on behalf of Kyle. Alex is also in there, even if it’s rare he chimes in with an opinion, but once they start Friends his commentary about how much he hates Ross that gets the entire group riled up does tend to make him laugh. Even Kyle agrees with Forest-- whose opinion had been shared by Alex-- that Chandler had all too many queer-coded scenes with Joey.
His mother facetimes him daily, which given how they both don’t exactly go out much starts to become monotonous, until she begins to give in and talk about memories she has of their father. Tidbits she never would have shared with him about their adult life when he was a child or teenager. He in turn facetimes Rosa and shares some of the memories of their father as well, which as much as she tries to pretend she doesn’t want for Arturo’s sake she clearly does with the million questions she asks every single time and the small smile she gives him at the end of their calls.
Liz updates him on her work which is a nice reprieve from everyone’s normalcy and lack of medical jargon sometimes, especially when she gives him inside info on covid vaccine studies not yet published to the general public yet. Everything in him wants this more than anything else in the world right now and he texts her almost every day asking if she’s heard more news even when he knows things take time. She’s a good sport about everything, even when he shares in a very angry rant about Max Evans and how they could have helped so many more people so much more quickly with his DNA-- however selfish that might have been.
When he goes back to work, he feels refreshed, even when it makes things hit like a freight train once more. Lost in a sea of inadequacy, his feelings extend past the pandemic. Even when things return to a level of normalcy and the cases subside he gets alien medical drama thrown in his face once more, and he starts to wonder if he’ll ever recover. If he was wrong to choose this calling. If the fact he can’t help Max or Maria is a sign from above or his father that it’s time to make some career move or change location like his mother and Liz. But, like he tells Michael Guerin. He can’t think he can face his future children and say he walked away from this. Or let people die by quitting, just like Rosa warns. And so he stays and tries to heal both other people and himself.

Amber Midthunder Talks Rosa's Roswell, New Mexico's Season 3 Journey & Excitement Over New Powers
Roswell, New Mexico Season 3 has shown us a new side to Rosa Ortecho.
Between exploring her powers and continuing to find herself in this new world, Rosa has found her niche within the group and has been a valuable asset in the fight against the season's big bad.
Amber Midthunder took a few minutes to talk with us about Rosa's journey, her favorite dynamics, and what she's excited for the audience to see over the final episodes this year!
Rosa has had quite the journey this season. Can you speak to that journey and what you enjoyed most about it?
I mean, what a big question. So, many things. The whole thing I've enjoyed. I think this season has been my favorite, both shooting and my experience just personally of shooting it was, I think, the most fun that I've had any of the years. And also kind of what she's getting to explore in so many ways.
She's quite on her own this year. Like first year it was a lot of flashbacks. Second-year, it was a lot of struggling. And I think this year it's her kind of walking on her little deer legs, trying to figure out who she is in this new life and this new time period on her own. So, all of it. I've had a lot of fun scenes with a lot of new people.
She had her storyline in the beginning with Wyatt. That was a fun story to explore. I got to have some really cool scenes with Michael Vlamis. That was a lot of fun.
And then the whole experience of the storyline with Lily and Heather was very heavy at times, but also very fun and exciting and cool for us to get to explore. So, I think all of it, just seeing her develop and kind of like stand on her own, is exciting for me as somebody who cares about her as a character, as a person.
And also, as an actor, to get to explore so many fun, new things has been very cool.
Totally. You touched on this a little bit there, but the story with Wyatt earlier in the season that was an unexpected one for the audience. What did you think about that relationship, and what do you think Rosa took away from it?
A lot of people have had, I think, a lot of feelings and a lot of opinions about it, and I don't think any of them are wrong. I think that what's fun about our show is we get to explore very strange what-ifs like, what if this person loses their memory and becomes completely different?
And what if this person dies, but ten years later, they're not really dead? So already, that's just like, when would that ever happen?
But it's cool in the sense that I think the grounded truths are that it's two people who relate to each other in a way.
I think that there are a lot of cool elements to their relationship and the way that they see each other and understand each other and share a lot of the same feelings about their town and where they are and how they feel.
If they feel outside or misunderstood or misplaced. That was something that was really fun and also very surprising to me to get to explore. And it was cool, and also I had a great acting partner, so it was cool.
The last time we saw Rosa, she was instrumental in severing the connection between Maria and Jones. Can you preview what's next for her as the fight against Jones continues?
I think for her, she's finding for herself that she has a real place in the group and in this world. I think that even before she came back, she struggled a lot with feeling like she had purpose or significance or like she could help anybody.
All she wanted to do was protect her sister, and the stakes were lower, maybe in like a TV sense, but to her quite high that she wanted to protect her family and set a good example for her sister and all those things. And she's felt like she couldn't do that.
Initially, she felt like there's just no chance for her ever to do anything good. Which was, I think, much of her struggle, like with her sobriety, but I think for her to realize that she has not just a purpose or position, but a responsibility and that she's needed is very satisfying and is very cool to see.
And so, I think in the next couple episodes, you'll see her find more of her position. And she's also still just trying to figure out who she is and where she lands. It's a very weird position she was put in, coming back from the dead. She's just trying to still regain her balance. And also, I think you'll see her find that for herself as well.
Sure. And yeah, Rosa was a fish out of water in a lot of ways in season two. And I think in season three, she's made a lot of strides in getting to know herself more. How do you feel like she's embraced this new world she came back to?
It's all the same people. It's just like dynamics are deeper. So, I think it's just her finding her new place and kind of getting over her ideas about things and understanding the realities of other people as well. Like her relationship with Isobel is a good example for that.
They share an abuser, and so what can easily look like she should have a lot of tension with Isobel because of what happened really becomes a common bond. And then they end up obviously being very close. I think it's her just opening her perspective but also staying firm in herself and what she knows to be true.
Where would you love to see Rosa's storyline go? We've seen her in rehab. I really love that touch of her at art therapy. Where do you see her going forward, or where would you like to see Rosa's storyline go moving forward?
Honestly, in episode 11, there's some pretty fun decisions and resolutions, and I'm excited for that. I'm excited to see what that looks like in the next season.
You touched on this earlier, too, about some of the dynamics that Rosa's gotten to have. There's Rosa and Liz, obviously Rosa and Isobel, Rosa and Kyle, Rosa and Michael. Is there a particular dynamic that you enjoy most on-screen for Rosa?
No, honestly, they've all been really fun. I think that's what's most surprising to me as an actor is that even though I'm living as the same character, all of the scenes feel so different.
All of the dynamics are so unique because all the relationships are so rich, and the histories are so rich. And that's what's cool about this story and the small town and the whole like the ten years of it all is that there's so much to explore one on one with each person.
The group scenes are so much fun, and the group dynamic is cool because all those are at play. But also, when you get to do one-on-one, you get into kind of the nitty-gritty of what's between two people, and the scenes between Rosa and Michael are so different from the scenes between Rosa and Kyle or Rosa and Isobel.
And then they all have their own. Each one is very different and really fun.
Rosa and Liz have such a beautiful sister relationship, and I love that scene towards the end of episode eight at the Wild Pony between them. Can you speak to that relationship and its importance to Rosa?
Yeah, I mean, that's like everything to her, right? That's the world. Before all of this happened, that was what she lived for was to protect her younger sister and to want her to do better than she did. And now she's seeing that, and she's seeing her sister live those things.
And even though we're living inside this weird sci-fi fantasy world. I think our writers and especially anytime that I get to work with Jeanine. Jeanine like is my sister.
So, it's fun, and it's nice. We have a lot of conversations, and we have a lot of talks about our scenes and what's happening, and where they're at. Honestly, even this season, the sisters have been quite separate, but always at the end, whether you see it or not, it's the two of them versus everything.
She and I always have a dialogue about, "Okay, well you're here, and I'm there, but where are they at?" And like, "What is their dynamic right now? What's going on with them?" So, I mean, to me, that's like the heartbeat of everything that they do, and that Rosa does.
I love getting to see Rosa explore her powers this season. How was that for you in getting to tap more into that side of Rosa?
It's so much fun. Honestly, I love having power. I was excited when I read it and when it first started happening and her having abilities. And I hope they just keep coming.
Yeah, me too. Is there a storyline this season outside of Rosa's that you really enjoyed on the show?
Oh yeah. I think Liz's whole California life has been so fun, seeing her in her other world and her with Heath and her really exploring her science. Obviously, it's always been present, but I think this year, more than anything, it has been pretty clutch. So that's been a lot of fun. And also just anything that Isobel ever does I love.
There's so much beauty in New Mexico, and it serves as such a beautiful backdrop for Roswell. What do you love most about filming in New Mexico?
That's where I grew up, so I get to be home with my family and much of the crew I've known since I was young. And so it's all just people and places that I'm familiar with, and it's such a unique experience. And I feel so lucky that I think just being home for me is great.
I mean, it's beautiful. There's good food. My loved ones are there. It's a pretty good setup for me.
That's wonderful. And the last question for me. Season three has been an exciting ride, and it's been a lot of fun for the audience. What are you looking forward to the audience seeing most in the final episodes?
Honestly, our fans are so vocal that I look forward to seeing what they have to say. I'm always excited, and we talk about it like, "Oh, when people see this, and people see that."
I'm excited for them to see just what happens with Jones and the dynamics between Liz and Max and where all the gang ends at the end of the season, and how everybody feels about it. I don't think they'll be disappointed.

Roswell NM 3x11 Thoughts (I have a lot of thoughts!!!)
Contrary to popular opinion I really liked this episode. Yes, the science was so made up it was funny, yes certain character choices are hilariously silly, yes there was a lot of scenes filled with exposition dump, yes characters disappearing for episodes not to be mentioned as if they don’t exist is jarring & annoying, and omg yes, the Wyatt arc (if you can call it that) fell flat and was a complete waste of valuable screen time. So yes, I agree with most everyone’s assessment. That said still a very enjoyable and entertaining episode setting up the final concluding 2 hours of the season. Let’s get into it.
Jones is highly entertaining, overly good looking, and sometimes hilarious villain. Nathan shines bringing charm and depth to the role. Its important to note that Jones hasn’t caused any lasting damage to the group. Sure, he has tried to kill various members, he’s responsible for putting Maria in a coma & has kidnapped half the cast basically, kept our heroes busy all season. But when it comes to killing or destruction it’s really been focused on the dregs or racist folks of the town, the poor scientist in Santa Fe (I think it was Santa Fe) & the lady at the university last week. No one of any real consequence to our heroes. Now I have no idea if Maria’s vision arc has concluded because it hasn’t been mentioned in forever, but I’m assuming that there will be a major death by season end. Noah killed Rosa and the 2 other girls, abused Isobel for 10 years and destroyed the lives of all the mains. For Jones to be a real big bad there’s got to be some long-lasting consequences to one or more of our mains. Though I’m going into the final 2 episodes with excitement there is some concern. I don’t think any of the mains will perish but I do worry about Sanders and even Heath. (I’m really worried about Sanders y’all especially after that promo!!!)
Jones negotiation with Liz was bizarre. Why negotiate at all? Wouldn’t he just threaten to kill or maim people…what the heck is Liz’s bargaining chip against an all-powerful, evil dictator? If she doesn’t do what he wants he can just start killing folks she loves. It really is that easy. I get the whole creativity inspiration thing but fear for those you love is a great motivator. I was so amused that after hours of discussion Liz pulls out the big guns… free the sheriff. Was that her wild card? Really Liz? She may be a kick-ass scientist with a boatload of courage and sass, but I wouldn’t have her negotiating any of my needs anytime soon.
Isobel and Rosa scenes continue to delight. I think it’s clear Rosa won’t be in Season 4 much. As much as I will miss her, I’m glad that she will find some peace and joy at art school, she deserves it. Unlike Wyatt who does not deserve any tranquility because his redemption (if you can call it that) was not earned. Instead, his memories were wiped along with it any true feelings of guilt and remorse. How can we believe he has truly changed? What happens if his memories return? So silly and completely wasteful screen time (no offense to the actor who is quite good and likable).
The Dallas and Max scenes were wonderful. Don’t get me wrong I prefer the show not tell method. And Dallas conveniently having the entire Oasis history in a memory from his father then regurgitating those memories to Max (and the audience) was not the best way to convey the story. However, the actor who plays Dallas is ridiculously charismatic and I could listen to him recite the phone book (do those still exist?) and be entertained. Plus, for one moment I truly believe that Dallas had gotten through to the constantly self-sacrificing, martyr that is Max Evans. But as the promo for finale proves with Max asking Michael (why Michael?) to kill him, the words didn’t stick. Oh Max…
Speaking of, I truly feel so bad for Max. He’s had it rough. In a span of couple weeks, he’s been told he is a clone of an evil dictator, he isn’t the Savior but in fact a weapon to bring down the real Savior who also isn’t really a savior but a genocidal maniac (Michael’s words not mine) who slaughtered half his planet. Not to mention the “there has to be 3” doesn’t include him, as he isn’t part of the triad. And that because he is a clone, he doesn’t actually have biological parents or siblings or anything, well Michael, by DNA sort of, maybe? Oh, and he is the only thing tethering the evil, psycho dictator to life. I mean…
My hope for Season 4 is that Max gets to process everything he has learned about his existence. He hasn’t expressed how he feels the entire season and he deserves to. I hope the writers don’t have him get over it by season’s end with one scene or worse just sweep it under the rug. Like being a clone of an evil psycho, to be used as a weapon, without any real connection to Isobel and Michael? That’s got to have some lasting effects…please writers let me see it on my screen.
Speaking of show not telling, Michael’s new powers. I not a fan of Michael telling us a story of how he used his mind control powers accidently when he was 18. Can we please see these scenes so we can feel the true emotional impact?
As for these powers, strap in, this is a doozy (and might be controversial). I, like Michael, feel that taking someone’s free will, no matter who they are is not a good power to have; it’s not fun, it’s not cool. Michael is right that’s some dark shit and a power that needs to be used very sparingly and with a ton of responsibility.
I loved the scene between Sanders and Michael, but I have a couple issues with some of the dialogue. Sanders is the only living person (other than Jones) that knew and loved Nora. Thus, he can speak about her with authority. He is also the only person who is any kind of real parent figure in Michael’s. Thus, him saying Michael has no darkness can be believed. He knows Michael and he knows Nora. However, Sanders doesn’t know what its like to have powers, especially an immense power such as mind control. Though I appreciate Sanders’ perspective (and agree with him about the purity of Michael’s soul) I wasn’t a big fan of him brushing away Michael’s fears about having mind control powers and not wanting to use them. Yes, it’s important for Michael to recognize just because he has Jones’ power doesn’t mean he is or will ever become Jones. It’s not the powers that make a person. But the line about Nora not fearing her powers was not helpful. Nora’s powers were telekinesis, engineering (if genius is a power) and possibly miraculous crop growth. None of these powers take away a person’s ability to control their actions (well telekinesis to a certain point but in nowhere near actual mind control). So of course, Nora didn’t fear her powers.
I wish someone had validated Michael’s fears instead of brushing them away with a few words of you have no darkness or in Isobel’s case you aren’t like Jones/Noah. A person does not have to be evil or bad to misuse a power like mind control & for that misuse to have dire consequences. Can you imagine being able to make people do what you want them to do at any time? Even if your intent is to do good, it doesn’t mean it’s something that should be done or won’t have major consequences. Sort of like the ends justify means conversation between Jones and Liz. What is the line, do you recognize it and what’s to stop a person from inches towards the line and what happens if you cross it?
So, my wish for next season is for Michael like Max is given time to process what he has learned about himself and his powers. My wish is for Michael is to continue to struggle with when, how and if he should use the mind control power. That way even when faced with a racist sheriff that is holding a gun to his friends, he is careful, asks for consent and never takes advantage of this tremendous power. In addition, I do think it would be very interesting to continue to explore these powers and how they maybe could change a person? Take Max’s power to give and take away life force. He killed Noah and used that life force (and his own) to bring Rosa to back to life. Seems like a good exchange but ethically and morally having a person decide who lives or dies? And how would this all fit into religion with Dallas being a priest? These could make for some great conversations and strong character development. Fingers crossed we see some of it and not just get told in passing.
The music in the episode was amazing. The beginning with Nothing Else Matters and Jones is a tux… I mean… Also, the ending with the fight sequence, building the suspense, only for the reveal to be that Jones had wanted them all to come so he could trap Liz, Dallas, and Max along with Isobel and Michael (for extra leverage) in his mind. I’m confused about why everyone was sitting but Michael was standing? Is he able to move or is he able to resist his father’s mind control? I’m really looking forward to next week and for Team Human to come to the rescue (maybe).
Favorite lines of the episode:
Sanders to Michael: “You are just a pair of sad puppy dog eyes and a cowboy hat”
Jones to Team Alien & Liz: “Well, everyone seems a little tense” (LOL I love Jones!)
Dallas (or Isobel) writing on the wall to Jones: “KNOCK, KNOCK”

A Moment In Time, Again and Again
Hello @xoxobuckybarnes, It is I, your Summer Fic Exchange writer for @b99fandomevents.  Thank you for all your amazing prompts, but I ended up choosing “The Squad after ten years”. I really hope you enjoy it.
Also a few points:
 1) The whole story is non-linear. It’s like a series of snapshots. It’s related, but chronologically the don’t really make sense
2) It is smut adjacent? Implied smut? Idk, It’s just a few lines because honestly, it’s my first time writing anything like that
3) There might be some spelling errors and grammatical error, sorry if they put a damper on your experience
4) Thank you @b99fandomevents for giving this chance
5) MOST IMPORTANTLY: I hope you enjoy it.
There were many reasons Amy thought that might bring the squad together- well, mainly one- Scully dying (the man was already decaying when she was in the precinct), but this was not it. In fact, this was the opposite of it.
She reads the sign again, still wondering if she dreamt it up. But nope. Norm Scully and Cindy Shatz were indeed getting married.
Amy walks into her old turf: Shaw’s Bar. She feels like she stepped into another universe, everything is different, but somehow, the same. It’s the place she came to right after her wedding. The stools are different and the bar more worn, but the place still feels warm like her wedding night. The back door leads right to the alley where she once tried to conceive (that was a low point) and judging by the fact the Hitchcock is standing right outside the bathroom with Scully nowhere in sight, she guesses even the bathroom smells (stinks) the same.
Her eyes sweep over the room, she can see Rosa and Gina huddles together and she already feels bad for their victim, Holt and Kevin are talking to Terry- it never stops amusing her seeing the very passionate Captain Jeffords squared against impassive Retd Captain Holt and Kevin. Charles is haranguing the caterers, when she hears a voice from behind: “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.”
They had just gotten into the airport- Jake is bringing all their luggage while she is trying to get her children to calm down. While Maya knows everyone in the squad, Mac has lived with them more. So Mac has decided to fill in the blanks. His stories are wild and absolutely untrue and Maya is hanging onto each word. She was looking to see where her husband was when Maya suddenly tugged her hand and asked in wonder “Did Daddy really catch a thief by sending Mac in undercover?” “No. Your daddy never sent Mac undercover because he isn’t a cop and he is a baby”. “Well, I am not a baby and dad did do that, he just didn’t tell you”
“What didn’t I tell your mom?”Jake joins them, luggage in tow. “That you sent me undercover to catch that thief” “Mac”, Jake says with fake indignation. “You weren’t supposed to tell that. It was our secret”  Mac’s eyes has that same mischievous glint she has seen a million times on her husband’s face as he says he told her to maya and launches into his story. They’re loading their luggage into the cart when Jake’s phone buzzes. “That’s Charles and he has already called me 5 times and messaged me a lot. I stopped counting after 10”, Jake says. “Kids, your Uncle Charles is waiting. You know how he gets when you are late!”, he adds.
Mac, without any prompt, holds his sister's hands, so as to not lose her, still continuing with the  stories of his feats, she’s sure, without missing a beat. Her heart swells as she watches her kids, Mac being a protective older brother and Maya holding onto his hands and words. Her husband’s hand slips into hers as he asks “You ready to go?” She couldn’t be happier.
"Captain Santiago"
"Captain Holt! Hi!" Apparently even his retirement hasn't made Santiago less flustered. He won't deny there is a part of him that enjoys the reverence. "How was your first year running a precinct, Captain?" He enjoys calling her Captain almost as much as she enjoys hearing it.
"Great! Super cool. Fantastic. Dope. No diggity no doubt" He briefly wonders if she had a stroke.
"Okay, you saw right through me. It's not been easy. Manhattan is completely different from Brooklyn. The squad is also new, they all just transferred about a month or two before me. So they don't even know each other so everyone is walking on tiptoes. And they follow everything I say, but don't really see me as a leader."
"Well, the first precinct I ran, I had a detective who only cared about closing cases, everyone in the squad thought I was a robot, my two best detectives had a bet with each other, my Sargent was chained to the desk and the office administrator was Gina and I had Hitchcock and Scully"
"You are right. I shouldn't complain. I don't have a Hitchcock and Scully"
"No. But that was not what I was trying to say. Once I got closer to all of them, I realised that the detective who did not care, cares not just care about closing cases, the bet made both detectives better, my Sargent saved my life, Gina is still Gina and that being a robot doesn't make me a worse Captain. What you need to do Santiago, is trust your squad. You have a unique opportunity to build this team. But you cannot do that without unflinching trust. So trust them. Help them and let them help you. And if you ever feel the need, please do not hesitate to contact me. I might have retired from the force, but not from being your mentor"
"Wow! Thank you so much Captain. That means the world to me." Some people might call Amy Santiago a teacher's pet in an attempt to mock her, but the truth is she is a teacher's pet because she is a brilliant student. She revels in learning and enjoys implementing her knowledge even more. She is a teacher's pet not just because she is adept at brown nosing- which she admittedly does sometimes, but because she will be the student that teachers can one day be proud of. He might tell her this if it did not make her explode and also because Amy Santiago understands him, so he just smiles.
They had barely reached the terminal before Charles pounced on Jake. Amy and the kids barely had the time to move away from being hit. Genevieve and Amy unload the luggage while the kids catch up. It takes the men one whole minute before they let go.
"Genevieve, thank you so much for taking the kids", Amy says.
"Of course Nikolaj loves hanging out with Mac and Maya. It's my pleasure to watch them."
  "Still, thank you! And Jake-"
"NO!", Charles almost pushes her down trying to get between Jake and her. "You get him every other day Amy, you cannot poach him away today."
"Charles, I am not trying to poach him away. I just wanted to tell him to enjoy the night and have fun. Also you visited not three weeks ago and you guys FaceTime constantly."
"FaceTiming is not the same Amy! It has been 28 days, 14 hours aaand three minutes since I have been covered in Jake's musk"
“Ugh! Alright", Jake says. "Charles, why don't you take these two bags and load them into the cab while Amy and I bring the rest?"
"Okay.", Charles says almost defeatedly. "Don't be late."
Jake turns to her. "So what are your plans again?"
"I will go to the hotel, have a long bath after which Rosa and Gina will come pick me up for the bachelorette party after which both will crash with me because according to Gina quote if I am going to stand next to you as a bridesmaid, you need to at least be six and you need help with that unquote"
"I still can't believe Cindy asked you and Gina to be one of the bridesmaids"
"Well, we did help them get together."
"Yeah. And as this goes on, I will be with Charles hoping whatever he made is edible and missing you terribly"
"Stop being a sap Peralta. And have fun tonight"
"It’s Peralta- Santiago, FYI. And I will 100% have fun, but I'm still gonna miss you. I gotta go before Charles comes back. I love you"
  "I love you too."
It was a tiring night and Amy just wants to take her makeup off and she really wants to be out of this dress for more than one reason. As much as she loves her kids- and that is a lot- she is glad that they wanted to stay at Holt's place. The kids love their Fauxpas (they are her kids, of course they know what faux pas means and more importantly, when Mac very proudly said it, both Kevin and Holt agreed that "it is a humorous wordplay"). Mac can never get enough of Holt's stories and Maya loves the Classics. She can recite Odyssey from memory. And both of them get away with things that only they (and maybe her husband) can- some stains of orange juice, mud in the house, a few broken glasses- all.of these are forgiven because it's their fauxchildren's doing (it doesn't work as well, but Holt was proud and Maya laughed and so it stuck). And after two days of wedding prep, she really needs a day without being worried about someone breaking something or constantly screaming. And even more than that with the way her husband has been looking at her all night, she really, really needs to be the one screaming.
She is halfway through taking off her makeup when Jake, sans jacket, (but with tie and damn, her husband looks fine) walks in. He puts his hand on her waist. "Babe, do you know how hot you look?"
"Oh is it the running mascara that does it for you?"
He pulls her in closer and from his look she knows that the screaming she was hoping is definitely happening. He says in a low voice  into her ear, "No. It's you." It's like each word he says vibrates inside her. "You having been driving me crazy all day. You in that blue dress. You knowing exactly how amazing your butt looks in that dress. You taking control when everything was falling apart. It's you Ames who does it for me."
She turns around and pulls him by the tie and kisses him hard and he's lifting her up onto the counter, kissing every bit of her as he lowers his head between her legs. She thanks the stars that this is her life partner.
(And later she'll counting the same as Jake twists his wrist in the way that he knows will bring over the edge.)
Every time Jake sees his wife, he falls in love with her a little more. Which he wouldn't have believed possible sixteen years ago. She hasn't spotted him, so he takes her in for a minute. Every time he steps into Shaw's Bar, he remembers walking in as a newly wed couple. Sure afterwards the evening did take a turn, but until then it was perfect. Except before that when there was a bomb threat and an actual bomb and Teddy proposing like a thousand times. Wow, his wedding day was a mess. But still it was one of the happiest days of his life because even through all that, he was hitched to the most beautiful woman in the world. Who is now watching everyone waiting for him.
So he walks up to her, drinks in hand and says, “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.”
"Ooh , Casablanca", she takes a glass. "Yes. Charles and I watched it yesterday. We didn't even know what was going on half the time because Charles was crying and making noises half the time."
"Oh, just Charles?" "Okay fine I was crying a little too. Okay a lot. Fine I was the one who was crying the most. Happy?"
"Oh babe. It's cute that you think you should say that to me as if you didn't watch it for the first time with me"
"Oh yeah. Well, I tried. Oh before you ask, the kids are all at the Jeffords' house and Cagney and Lacey are keeping an eye on them. And the best part: without a babysitter's fee."
"Wow, I really missed friends' kids doing things for us for free. Remember when we babysat Cagney and Lacey for like three days straight, without even thinking of money?"
"And if we were to go by the amount our babysitters charge, we'd have enough money to buy Orangina for a whole month."
They move to the counter, perched on the barstools. "You know Captain Holt just called me Captain"
"He's been calling you a Captain for a year babe, you know, cause you've been a Captain for a year!"
  "I know! Can you believe?!"
"Of course, because you are awesome and amazing"
"Oh, and he also said that he's still my mentor and that I can call him for advice any time."
"Wow, obviously today was a big day for you"
"I know" Her whole face is lit up. Her cheeks are flushed, from the drinks and the running around making things happen, from the many catching up and from the fact that her mentor called her Captain. Once again he's a little bit more in love. His eyes catch Cindy and Scully awkwardly shuffling around trying to dance. Hitchcock is trying to hide the fact that he's disappointed, but doing a pretty bad job of it. He sees Charles and Genevieve almost having sex which apparently is how they dance. The music changes to something familiar and his wife looks amazing and he wants to dance with her very much. "Amy Santiago- Peralta, may I have this dance? And don't worry, it's reinforced shoes so I won't even know if you step on me." "Ha ha Peralta- Santiago. You are my teacher, so if I'm stepping on your toes, it's your own fault"
  "Wow, blaming the victim."
They are on the dance floor, her hand in his, hand on his shoulder, his on her waist. He can see every little detail on her face, the mascara running a bit, lipstick that's smudged. Her perfectly set hair, falling around the edges. She's beautiful.
"I wonder why all the greatest love stories are so tragic"
"Because that's what makes them great. The fact that their love is so powerful that it's unattainable."
"Well I think that it's stupid."
  "What?"
"That the greatest love of our life is the one we don't have. It's categorically untrue. My favourite love story has a happy ending anyway"
  "You mean Morticia and Gomez?"
  "That's my second favourite"
  "Well, what's your first?"
"Ours, of course" She smiles and that's all he ever wants to see.
Her hand is in his, the other moves to his chest. His are around her waist circling, as he pulls her closer and she rests her cheek on shoulder. He buries his nose in her hair and she nuzzles into his neck. If he'd imagined a perfect life sixteen years ago, not even in his wildest dreams he'd have thought he could feel like this.

Pairing: Rosa Diaz x fem!reader
Requested by anons: “Oh oh! Wife!reader x rosa diaz! Reader who is also a detective at the 99 knows the story behind Rosa's pink hair (maybe r played a part in the story, a huge at home hair dye accident or smh) and one evening when they're all gathered at the bar Rosa gives her wife permission to tell the story to their colleagues. Jake and gina have kept pestering for the story the whole day annoying both rosa and the wife to no end. Thanks!” -and- “ "This is all your fault." "I hope so." With reader and rosa?”
Word Count: 1.1k
Warnings: none that I can think of!
A/N: I had to split up the quotes in order for it to make sense and I just realized Rosa says both haha. Hope this turned out okay and thanks again to the anons that requested these! Flashback in italics.
-
“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s happening!” Jake shouted as he ran into the break room, followed by an equally excited Gina. Amy and Terry immediately shared a nervous look.
“I know I’m going to regret this but...what’s happening?”
Gina covered Jake’s mouth, grinning at Amy with wild eyes. “Rosa has pink hair!”
“What?!” Charles shrieked, nearly falling out of his chair.
“I know!” Jake responded just as loudly. “Well it’s more of an ombre/highlight situation than a full head thing but it’s still pink!”
“Okay, okay. Everyone needs to get it together so we can be normal in front of Rosa now and corner Y/N about what happened later.”
The detectives excitedly chatted about the situation, instantly falling silent the moment you and Rosa walked in the room. She kept going to the coffee maker, leaving you in the doorway to observe Jake, who was visibly shaking. Before you could question him about it, he broke.
“Tell us why Rosa has pink hair!”
-
The sound of your name coming from just behind your head made you jump violently. You readjusted the smoothie you’d nearly knocked over in shock, turning to face Jake and Gina with a glare.
“What do you two want?”
“What makes you think we want something?” came from Gina at the same moment that Jake asked “So what’s the tale of the pink hair?”
“Nice try.” You turned back to your desk, rolling your eyes when Jake sat on the chair by your side, Gina perched on your actual desk on the other side of you.
“Come on, N/N, please?” Gina practically begged. “It’s not like you’re bound by contract or something.”
“Actually, I am.”
Jake immediately scoffed. “Oh yeah? Let’s see this contract. I’m sure there’s some kind of loophole in it.”
“Here it is.” You held up your hand and pointed to your ring with a smug smile. “And the only loophole it has is the one I stuck my finger through.”
“Title of your sextape,” Jake grumbled as he got up and walked off, Gina following with a sigh.
-
An hour after your shift, the squad was spread out among a couple booths at Shaw’s. You were telling Rosa some dumb thing one of your perps said earlier as her hand rubbed gently across the shoulder that wasn’t leaning into her, your own hands bouncing between holding your drink and playing with her newly dyed ends. With everyone else drinking and goofing off, the two of you were tucked away in your own little bubble. One that Jake apparently had no problem bursting.
“Okay, I will pay your whole tab if you just tell me what the hell happened to your hair!” Jake pleaded with a defeated sigh as he slid into the booth across from you. Rosa’s eyes met yours for a moment, a playful smirk appearing as she turned back to Jake.
“Alright.”
“Wait, seriously?”
“Sure. I love free drinks.” She shrugged halfheartedly, her hand sliding from your shoulder down near your elbow. “But you’re paying for Y/N’s drinks too.”
“Deal!” His lips held a grin that would put a cheshire cat to shame as he rounded up the squad to approach the booth, rather quickly as everyone seemed to be interested in the story by now.
“Alright, so here’s how it happened,” you began once the squad was settled.
-
“Babe?” Rosa called just before turning into the aisle you were in. “Oh, there you are. You ready to get out of here?”
You turned to look at her with a grin, holding a couple boxes close to your chest. “Hey baby...how much do you love me?”
“More than anything else in the world, but I’m thinking not this much.” She stepped forward and took the items from your hands. “No. Absolutely not.”
“But Rosa,” you immediately whined, wrapping your hands around hers. “Please let me try! You let me do the bleached ombre and look how well that turned out!”
Rosa sighed, wanting to turn you down because you were in no way a professional hair stylist and it was only with sheer luck that her hair had come out right the first time. Then again, she’d never in her life not given you what you wanted.
“Fine.”
You immediately squealed, taking the boxes from her hands and wrapping your arms around her neck. “You won’t regret this!” You pulled away from the hug and pecked her lips quickly. “Come on, let’s go!”
-
“Alright, let’s see the masterpiece!” You bounced on your toes, excitement seeping out of your pores as you started to take Rosa’s hair out of the wrappings. You fell flat on your bare feet as soon as you caught sight of the color. “Oh no.”
Rosa whipped around immediately to look at you. “Oh no what?! What did you do?”
“Well…” You nervously bit your lip, backing away a bit. “It’s definitely not burgundy.”
You closed your eyes tightly as your wife ran into the bathroom, flinching a bit as she yelled your name in a surprised and very very angry tone. You ran after her, stopping just outside of the doorway.
“Maybe it’s not ruined! Maybe it’ll look better after you wash and dry it,” you quickly suggested, timidly playing with your fingers.
“Oh yeah, I’m sure it’ll look much less like Pepto Bismol then. This is all your fault.”
“Says the woman who tried doing dirty things to me while I was mixing the dye.” Your eyes widened when she turned to glare at you. “I meant to say ‘thank you, sweet wife, for allowing me to try dyeing your hair’!” You let out a relieved sigh as she slammed the door and turned on the shower.
-
“Wait, so you look like a stereotypical rebel teen right now because you couldn’t keep your hands off your wife? That’s it?” Gina asked, you biting back a laugh as Rosa’s eyes met yours again for a moment.
“What do you mean ‘that’s it’? What were you expecting me to say?”
“I don’t know. Maybe that this was the first step in your transition into ‘bubblegum princess’ or something.” Jake shrugged, also obviously disappointed with the story.
“Whatever. Go pay our tab. I’m ready to leave.” Jake headed off to the bar, the rest of the squad dispersing as Rosa turned to you once more.
“I really am sorry about your hair,” you mumbled as your hands found her free one.
“It’s okay.” She lightly kissed the side of your head, quickly before anyone could call her out on the small act of vulnerability. “I’d let you do it again in a heartbeat, sabotage free of course. I’m sure it’ll turn out better that way.”
“You think so?”
“I hope so.”
