God, I'm so happy with what they did with Maddie Nolen.
I'm sure there will be plenty of people mad because obviously there was a weird backlash over a character who has sex with one half a ship, so I'm sure some people worry this will lead those people to feel justified in their initial response.
But ignoring people who can't emotionally regulate for a second, because those childish impulses aren't worth dictating the fun things a narrative can do: Maddie is SO INTERESTING as a character and she fills in a lot of the questions people seemed to have about the rest of the season.
Consider for a moment that it wasn't Caitlyn who convinced Vi to be an Enforcer. It was Maddie.
I know that some people took this line to be about Zaunites, a sort of obvious connection to the very racist idea of "one of the good ones," but since Maddie is talking about Marcus and his betrayal of the Enforcers just before this, I'm pretty sure her framing here is something else. The point she's making is specifically targeted at Vi's own beliefs and weaknesses, her desire to protect. That seems clear to me now with all we know about Maddie's capacity for manipulation.
She's not saying, "You're good, for a poor."
She's saying, "Wow, I agree with you, the Enforcers are really bad; it's so upsetting. I think you might be the only one who can change it, but only if you join us." This is what convinces Vi to do something she never thought she would.
Well, this and the fact that Caitlyn believes in her so much which, again, is information she gets fed to her directly from Maddie. It even seems like Maddie seeks her out just to say this, which on first viewing felt oddly convenient. Wow, Vi just happens to meet this naive girl who just happens to say exactly what she needs to hear to do something so out of character.
Except obviously none of it was coincidence. Everyone already knew how much Vi meant to Caitlyn and getting Caitlyn under control would require either controlling Vi or removing her from the equation. This was a push in that direction.
Then there's her more obvious role as the spy in Caitlyn's bed, there to reassure her that the Noxians are only trying to keep all of them safe. Then when Caitlyn expresses larger doubts, she's immediately ready to lay out an alternative. You could just give up, Maddie seems to whisper gently in her ear. Just reestablish things as they were before.
But she knows Caitlyn isn't going to go for that. She's not going to go back to the council as it was, because it's only going to remind her of the empty place her mother left behind. Maddie knows that Caitlyn isn't going to take this offer, which is precisely why she suggests it. She frames quitting as the only clear alternative to going along with everything Ambessa wants because she knows that Caitlyn will refuse, which leads her right back into alignment with Ambessa. She makes continued obedience into an active choice that Caitlyn affirms she's making.
Even Maddie's comments that suggest direct opposition to Ambessa â "you're our leader... I follow you" â are designed to frame herself and her true leader in direct opposition, just as Ambessa's own warning about entanglements is there to further that point. They both make a point of reminding Caitlyn that they are her true ally, isolating her further from anyone who isn't the devil and (other) devil on her shoulders.
This way Maddie and Ambessa can both tug at Caitlyn, pulling in what feels to her like opposite directions, all so that she lands precisely where they wanted her all along but with the illusion of active agency.
And look, I'm not saying my read on her is gospel, because I think they intentionally gave us enough room to really speculate and wonder about her, someone who could have been just a background nothing character but ends up being such a huge part of the second season. That's so interesting!
I especially love that she comes across as really naive and innocent, just some poor little thing swept up in the fervor, when in reality she's a true believer who has been manipulating things to go her way from the start.
#maddie nolen#arcane#arcane s2 spoilers#arcane spoilers#when maddie first showed up my immediate feeling was ''oh noooo they made a sweet and innocent cop''#BUT NOPE.#they did NOT and that's so fucking funny

David Gaider on Alistair, under a cut for length:
"Ah, Alistair. Depending on who you ask, he's the adorable woobie with the biggest heart or the irritating, over-used man-child. Yes, he is indeed all of those things. Good characters have flaws to go with their virtues. Ugly spots. That is literally their humanity. He was a bit of a bear to write, at the outset. James (Ohlen, the first creative director on DAO) had this idea he needed to be a grizzled Warden veteran - older, distrusting. Everyone hated him instantly. I call this the Carth Onasi Problem, and suggested to James that maybe I try something else. My observation says that the characters who are generally liked the most are the supportive ones. Enthusiastic. Funny? Sometimes, sure, but that's *not* required. I need to digress. See, at the time James had this (regrettable) period where he believed everything could be derived from a formula. He even sold this idea to the founders, Ray and Greg. Google 'BioWare formula'. Anyway, how this relates is because James thought the DAO cast needed a Minsc: a comedy character who would become super popular and, ideally, the icon of DA. "Isn't that Alistair?" you ask. "Arguable," I say, "but no." James had me to up a huge list of 'comedic archetypes' and I wrote some possible dialogue for each one. Then he had the team vote. The winning archetype? The Buffoon - like Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin. James was pleased. I was not. "The problem," I said, "is I don't find the Buffoon funny." đ
"
""But you're a professional." "Sure, I *can* write him... but comedy isn't science. I need to find him funny. If I write him, the only comedy I'll mine is where he makes fun of himself." James took that on board and then passed the character onto someone else. The result? Oghren. I rest my case. So back to the supportive character: that was my thought for a new Alistair. It was a special case, after all - the DAO PC was thrust into a terrible situation. They needed someone who had their back. A bud. A *likeable* bud. I was watching Buffy at the time, and my thoughts drifted towards Xander. Now, I know Joss Whedon is persona non grata these days, but this was 2006, OK? I was watching Buffy and thought, "man, Xander is such a wasted character" and considered how to fix him. Then I realized this might work for Alistair. Plus, I wanted to see if I could replicate the Whedon vocal patter. That was the new Alistair: a more useful and likeable yet equally dorky version of Xander. We had very strict rules in DA about language: no modern speech styles, colloquialisms, any words that came into use in our world after 1900 got severe side eye... but Alistair? Alistair got a blanket pass. Was it great that the lead writer's leading man got to break the rules? I guess not, but it's my opinion that you can break those kinds of rules - selectively, in small doses. Too much and you break the illusion. And it worked. Alistair was an instant hit. Not just with the team, but with the fans."
"Confession time? Yes, I knew Goldanna wasn't meant to be Alistair's mother. But neither was Fiona, originally. I think fans caught wind of some revisionism at work, and OK it's true. I had a more Arthurian idea for his birth but I stopped liking it... yet not soon enough to go back and make edits. Should I have just left it be, left Goldanna as his mother? Maybe. It was one of those writer things I just couldn't let go of and I probably could have used someone to sit me down and go "Gaider, please. Just stop." I still like Fiona, and where I took it. But I probably shouldn't have gone there. Casting Alistair was SUCH a chore. He required a weird mix of devilish charm, but with enough sincerity and adorkableness it didn't come off as smarmy. Every audition went full smarm... until Steve Valentine up and appeared out of nowhere. In the midst of a batch of audition files, there he was. We brought Steve in "just to try out", and he pulled it off. Even the "frog time" line, which (seriously) nobody else could. And when he got to the romantic lines, Steve's voice turned into pure butter without, again, sliding into "oh, he's slightly creepy". Both Caroline and I were sold. And he was so gloriously easy to write. It's a well I'd probably return to... a bit too often, maybe? Maric, then Anders in Awakening, and then Alistair kept popping up in future games and the comics because, yes, he was pretty much the breakout comedy character of DA. Which still makes me happy. đ CORRECTION: Goldanna was someone Alistair thought was his *sister*, and her mother his mother. Look, it was almost twenty years ago, OK? đ
--- I actually had a whole scene written in DAI where Fiona tells him, but the requirements were so specific for them both to be in Skyhold and it seemed like it'd be relevant only to a small small sub-section of fans (and confusing to everyone else) so it was dropped. Rightfully so, I guess."
[source thread]
User: "The Buffy vibes were strong in DAO and I was very happy with that at the time. What I loved about DAO was the mix of dark themes entwined with bits of levity. That's how I like my angst. Dark, broody with a side of ha-has and y'all delivered in DAO for sure." David Gaider: "That's a me thing. I like going dark - really dark - and then pairing it with light, comedic moments. It provides peaks and valleys in the tone, and prevents either from becoming overwhelming. Hey if it worked for Shakespeare (alas, poor Yorrick), it can work for DA, right? đ" [source]

Will you share your theory on what you think is happening behind the scenes of 911?
Hi, Nonnie!
Sure! As long as everyone is aware this is purely speculation, and nothing I say should be taken as proof of anything, I have no problem.
I've gone over a few things in my head, to be honest. I thought that JLH having filming conflicts could've been a major factor, and I still don't exactly disagree with that initial idea, but overall I think it was one of the things that threw TM for a loop.
Now, I've seen a lot of people theorize that perhaps Angela is leaving and that is what is causing so much chaos in BTS, but I am on the fence about this. I do think she might've asked to not have such a big role moving forward, especially if they get a season 9 (which I am also on the fence about ngl), like perhaps retiring, or just having a more laidback position training new recruits. The seeds are planted for that, not so much for her fully leaving. And it would give Angela more free time to dedicate to other projects (which, yes please. I need her in new projects ASAP).
So... (and please don't kill me for this, it's just a theory).
I think it all comes back to Ryan. And that he perhaps is leaving, or actively wants to leave. I will try to explain myself as concise as possible:
A couple of months ago there was already speculation about this. In all of his individual interviews (which were a lot, to be honest), Ryan made a point of talking about his work beyond 911 and talking about what he would like to do after 911.
On top of the individual promo, there was an uncharacteristically high amount of BTS dedicated to him and the godforsaken mustache. To the point where they threw a mustache party. And in the pics of that party, the vibes were that it was a party for Ryan, not in general.
Small thing, but Josh randomly dressing up as Eddie for Halloween. Perhaps unrelated, but I wanted to add it.
The 911 account reposting and celebrating Ryan's 100th ep, when 1. it wasn't his 100th (if we count the eps he was actually in) and 2. it was also JLH's, and yet they didn't say a thing about it. Ryan reposted that as well and the message he reposted it with was more nostalgic than anything else. Very much giving 'it was an honor to work with you, what a journey'.
I could be wrong, but I do think his contract ends this season. So, that just adds to it.
The timeline of the move to Texas. By the reactions alone I was fully expecting Eddie to leave for Texas at the end of 808, and then to be back with Chris (in a lazy way of solving their conflict off-screen) by 809-810. But the way he's currently thinking about it makes it very sus for me. As in, it can be a thing for the end of the season, and an actual goodbye for Eddie.
Of course, nothing of this has to actually happen, and it's quite possible it just exists in my brain. But this makes sense in my funny brain because then it explains why BT had to break up so soon... because they wanted Buck to feel completely isolated.
We know 809-10 will deal with Maddie being kidnapped. That alone will make Buck spiral. But if on top of that his best friend is also leaving... well, being alone just adds to the isolation and the angst. Because if Tommy was still around he'd be able to lean on him, and have him help him through this. But it seems like the writers wanted Buck fully alone for this, because sure, seeing a character never learning and being completely isolated is so much fun.
If this ends with BT getting back together, I honestly don't know. It wouldn't surprise me if Tim doesn't know. But, all in all, I wouldn't be surprised if RG deciding he's done is the thing that kinda created the domino effect.
(Also: I do not believe Oliver was telling Tim to fire Lou and end BT. Sorry. I just don't really see it. Nor do I think there were actual conflicts between actors BTS, as much as everything they're doing right now does feel a bit weird)
Anyway, thanks for letting me rant, Nonnie! My inbox is always open for ranting, venting, or discussing
Take care <3

Regarding the recent DBD season 2 "spoilers"
I feel like fandom spaces need to stop trying to seek validation from actors and writers everywhere. I get it. You want to know if what you have picked up from the show is true. Especially when it comes to shipping, it is important to people to have proof, to know that you are not reading into things. I have a 2 hour long Destiel presentation on my computer that I can recite from memory. I get it. But caring so much about what certain people have to say isn't healthy.
I understand that it is important for people to know if Charles and Edwin were ever meant to be Endgame. I care about that as well. I want to know if we we did read too much into their interactions. And I hate that we will never actually see them get together. But I personally didn't interpret anything we have seen so far on Cameo as suggesting otherwise. And even if it wasn't planned, it was still there subtextually. And things can change. Relationships develop, original endings can go in a completely different direction over the course of a show.
The thing with Dead Boy Detectives is, it got cancelled. Whatever they planned, it doesn't matter anymore. We will never see it, they will never see it. The characters belong to us now. We will never get more than those 8 episodes. Now we'll have to come up with everything else ourselves. Pick and choose what you like about the spoilers we have gotten. Don't like the idea of Edwin and the Cat King having sex? Okay. Then ignore it. It's not canon and it will never be. You do like it? Great! Have fun with it.
Free yourselves from the idea in the only right direction for a character and a story to take is what the writers dictate. Especially when those ideas will never see the light of day. Nothing is more or less canon than it was a week ago. That's how canon works.
Channel your inner 2014 tumblrina and have fun. It's why we're here. The world is already bad enough.
#dead boy detectives#me personally I have a complete 5 season arc planned in my head#I know how my version is going to end#and I enjoy it#dbd

honestly thinking about the sonadow twitter takeover and how the plummeting to earth thing very much affected Sonic a lot more than it affected Shadow. like in a previous takeover Shadow even made it a positive memory about Sonic trying to save him.
Meanwhile in Prime, Sonic has a moment of saving Shadow from falling into the void that's very reminiscent of that other fall (in the same way Prime has a lot of motivations and references that only make sense from a fandom insider perspective).
Sonic also gets repeatedly tilted, loud and anxious, (which I'm pinning more on RCS's/whatever writer's sense of humor, as is all the voice acting gags) and is coping badly any time Shadow comes out ahead. I think Sonic's insistence on his ability to grow chest fur is as big a Cope as floaties=fashion statement.
But really, Sonic's repeat date suggestions and Shadow's own descriptions of Sonic's behavior (dragging out their races, etc "just to annoy me") reads, whether romantically or platonically, that Sonic just really wants to spend time with Shadow.
He feels he needs to justify it, though, insisting that he and Shadow have something other than occasionally getting in each other's way ("two sides of the same coin") (friendly competition being "why you keep me around-" seemed like odd wording to me).
Needing to make it meaningful, because that's what Shadow wants out of a relationship- Shadow /says/ he dislikes Sonic for being frivolous and inauthentic, that (for instance) his hugs don't mean anything, and that he doesn't want "(Sonic's) kind of hug."
Sonic really wants to spend time with Shadow because he's also intimately aware that that time is limited. Either Shadow's patience (and/or social battery) is limited and he's liable to make a batman exit if he doesn't want to be somewhere (not that we've ever seen Shadow do this in canon, he seems to awkwardly/quietly hang around as if he doesn't realize he can just hit the bricks (or he likes being there and has no idea how to express it re: smiling at Big the Cat) ), Or Sonic and Shadow will get caught up in their own lives again and not see each other until Fate Deigns to Allow Them to Cross Paths Once More.
And Sonic misses him.
(This ties in with my Sonic Frontiers is the Saddest Game Ever posting from a while back, too. Sonic is lonely AF and Needs Other People to Talk To or he'll start talking to the walls and robots, and Shadow will almost always either talk back or groan in exasperation, which is as good a reaction as any.)
All this, plus Sonic's opinion flip-flops (shopping with Amy vs shopping with Shadow, opinion on Orbot) could be either (Sonadow Optimist) Sonic is Down Bad and not even conscious of his mirroring Shadow/trying to appeal to Shadow, or (Sonadow/overall Pessimist) Sonic trying to appeal to the Most Popular Character Right Now and getting increasingly desperate as he is rebuffed.
A few of these Twitter Takeovers have had moments of Sonic in particular getting thrown off and not really able to recover. (which makes me question what the writing is like, if there's any at all and these VA's aren't just riffing on an outline. Considering they don't talk over each other constantly, there must be something like a script, but it also does occasionally feel like a bad roleplay (and I've been a bad roleplayer).) It leads to a Something Is Wrong feeling in the "We're doing this for fun" question-answering joke show. Sonic needs therapy. (We all need therapy.)
Meanwhile, Shadow really is pulling out all the grunts, groans, and whines with Sonic that, if scripted, would be egregious as hell to read or write. He doesn't make these noises in the games (or shows, really?) mostly because there's a sort of efficiency necessary to production that cuts out that interpersonal realism and partly because it's annoying? Shadow, you're the annoying one?
Unrelated, everybody latched on to Sonic's "Go off, King" but nobody even noticed Shadow's "Deal With It."(sunglasses drop) How soon we forget the sacred texts and/or the deep magic, I guess? (It's an old meme, but it checks out!)
#sonic the hedgehog#shadow the hedgehog#sonadow#I dont accept the twitter takeovers as canon#there is no lore here- just corporate sponsored voice actor engagement content#fandom is about fun though so have fun with it#angst i guess#im working on a thing that started in the mid-00s and every New Thing that happens in the Sonic Franchise is an additional rock in my shoe#that I have to debate whether it fits into the project or not and if it does then am i a sellout for including it#or will I ruin my readers suspension of disbelief if I throw it out#i think too much therefore the thing remains unfinished#longpost#long post

[Not really sure if this counts as a request but here we go] Whoâs your favourite male yandere(s) from genshin? And could you talk about why?
Ah I love this question! Thank you so much for asking. I've been really busy with college lately so I haven't gotten a chance to write recently, but after this week I should be finished with a lot of tests until finals. Just to clear things up, I absolutely accept questions like this! I feel like I haven't really shared a lot about myself as a person so I'm hoping to do more of that in the future.

CW: Yandere Themes, Spoilers for Wriothesley's Story Quest
ââșââ âŸââșââ
I'd say I have four yanderes who I really like, and then a few who I like but I'm not obsessed with. Those four being Alhaitham, Neuvillette, Wriothesley, and Zhongli. Beyond the fact that I just like them as characters (and I'm gay asf lol) they're the most interesting yanderes to me, in part because of how much power they have in their societies.
Alhaitham is really interesting to me because there's this personal conflict between his values and beliefs and the idea of falling in an obsessive love. Alhaitham is inherently self-centered, not narcissistically so, but to the point where he prioritizes and values his time alone. In doing so though, he's also extremely lonely. I think a lot on how Alhaitham would react to someone who's able to match his sharpened blade of wit with one of their own, how he might exchange parries and blows with that person and find himself needing to understand the nature of their mind. I also think about how he'd react to someone who struggles with taking care of themself, or overworking: how he'd try to get you to stop doing so much and trying to please everyone. If his lover can keep up with his intelligence, he treats the romance like a game of chess, lining up his pieces to topple over the defenses surrounding your heart. His possession of you is slow and methodical, like vines growing on walls, slowly creeping over every inch. If his lover's wisdom is spent in other areas, then he's quick to snatch them up and take them home. While I think he's quick to get you under his control, it's harder for him to make them fall in love and surrender to his calculating embrace.
Neuvillette brings a really interesting element that I like to think about when I'm writing for him: immortality. He's a dragon who's lived for centuries, and that element of the slow passage of time is really fun to both write and think about. I really like to think of Neuvillette as a really, really soft yandere; he's seen humanity at its worst, and doesn't want you, the beautiful thing you are, to be tainted by all of its ugliness. Besides, he just can't help himself, what with his draconic instincts.
Out of the four, Wriothesley is the character I'd say I have the hardest time writing for because it's harder for me to explain why he feels the way he does. The working justification I have is that being betrayed by his adoptive family and living his whole life in Meropide made him incredibly lonely and developed a lot of abandonment issues that remained unearthed for years, as he didn't really make many close friends in Meropide. Then you come along though, and for once, Wriothesley has something good, something he doesn't want to give up. He's definitely one of the hardest yanderes to escape, what with Meropide being a literal prison. I think he definitely takes extra precautions when it comes to you, though, because he's so scared of losing them. Beneath his gruff exterior, there's a heart of gold, a man who only craves your complete affection and attention.
And then there's Zhongli, who was actually the character who got me into writing Yanderes. The thing about Zhongli is that as a yandere, you're practically powerless, unless you're on a similar or higher level of power/divinity to him. Even if you exceed his power, you're still going to have a very difficult time escaping his control. With how long he's lived and how much he's seen, he knows the only way to guarantee your safety is to isolate you from Teyvat entirely. Zhongli has no qualms about doing this, regardless of how much you might protest. Because when you've lost everything but Zhongli, you'll eventuallyâand inevitablyâcrumble into his arms. Only then will Zhongli put you back together, shaping you to be his perfect lover. Zhongli's greatest power as a yandere is his patience.

Severia and I experienced it very differently. My experience of Nero was very non-linear and went like this:
ARR: whatever, random enemy. (I wasn't really into the game at this point.) HW end: lol I guess this guy is kinda funny. Omega (but only like half of it): oh no, he's hot. And funny. Oh no, he's hot and funny. Going back to do CT after 6.0: I⊠I see. He's also a very interesting character and not just comedic relief. (This is when I initially started shipping with him.) Going back to finish Omega: ThIS MAN has HIDDEN DEPTHS and I am DIVING IN.
I had stopped playing the game partway through the 4.x series and when I came back for Shadowbringers I had, I admit, totally forgotten who Nero was. And I had no idea he was in the CT quests. Honestly it was probably fortunate I didn't do CT earlier. Because Severia really only came alive to me as a character during ShB. So playing CT after that allowed me to really experience it through her eyes. And (apologies to all the G'raha fans) Nero was CLEARLY the most interesting character there. I couldn't help thinking about how she would react to him.
I don't know that I personally ever had a single "oh" moment about Nero. He grew on me steadily, and it wasn't until I had already started shipping him with Severia that I became obsessed with him. It's partly his chemistry with her that makes him so attractive to me.
But of course Severia experienced Nero in canonical order. She also has an "oh no, he's hot" moment when he first shows up at the Crystal Tower, and she hates it. And despite her best efforts to prevent it, when Nero is sucked into the World of Darkness she has a big "oh no, he has affected me more deeply than I realized and I have begun to care about him" moment and it floors her.
You could say their relationship is a long series of frequent "oh" moments on Severia's part. While, Nero is intentionally pursuing her almost from the beginning, every new development in her feelings for him comes as a huge surprise to Severia and has to be adjusted to. (She's not very in touch with her emotions. At least, not until much later.)
And just for fun, Nero's "oh" moment is when Severia kisses him back for the first time (at the Gold Saucer) and he suddenly realizes that this doesn't feel like a game anymore.
fellow wol x npc shippers- If applicable, what was the "oh" moment for you and your oc falling for their love interest? Was yours seperate from your WoL's?

The True Meaning of Fear
Warnings: NSFW, Arachnophobia, Choking, Very Violent Oral, Abusive behaviour, Fear Play, Non-Con, Devils Who Are Deviling.
AN: I'm having fun writing more angsty and loving stuff for other characters like I mentioned in my update post, but sometimes you just got to write some fucked up Raphael stuff to clear your palate a bit. Seriously: mind the warnings. ItâsâŠyeahâŠpretty fucked. I will be seeking professional help and saying some Hail Mary's to repent for my sinsđ¶ââïžââĄïžEnjoy! đ«¶
âPleeease, Raphael,â she sobbed. âIt wonât happen again. I promise.â
âPlease what?â he asked with a smile and a soft tone that made him seem like the perfect image of innocence. âWe are only having a conversation âŠâ
She was not buying this attempt at lulling her into a false sense of security. She knew him. He had brought her to a cell in the bowels of the House of Hope. Had he simply wanted to talk, he would now have done it here.
âI will ask you again,â he said, still in that soft tone. âWhat did you see?â
She gave a small sob and shook her head. His yellow eyes narrowed slightly at her, but the smile stayed on his lips. He was in the cell with her too, on a chair in front of her sobbing form on the floor.
âWhat was it that frightened my little bird so much that she neglected all of her duties? I do so hate to repeat myselfâŠâ
Her bottom lip quivered as she tried to hold in more tears.
He had come home to find his house in complete disarray. Multiple dead debtors had laid scattered across the floor, as they had tried to defend the house against intruders. He had found her shaking in the corner of his office. A powerful fear spell had made her hide instead of dealing with the intruders or alarming Raphael.
He had been furious when he found her. He had lost a small fortune in gold and an invaluable staff that dated back to the early days of the Netheril Empire. He had yelled at her, but due to her fearful state, he did not receive the reaction he wanted. She had been too out of it to properly react to his words, so he took her here instead.
She could see from the way his tail flicked and the way he drummed his claws on the arm of the chair that he was running out of patience. She had to give him an answer.
âDeath,â she lied and dried her tears with her sleeve. âI saw my own death.â
The corners of his mouth turned upwards in an amused smile and gave a huff of laughter.
âDeath, hm?â he repeated. âAre you truly such a simple creature? I find that difficult to believe. If death was what you feared the most, you would not dare lying to my face in such a manner. Try again. The truth this time, if you would be so kind.â
She started shaking again and she could feel her skin become clammy. She had a good idea what would happen if she told him. She also knew what he would do to her if she did not. It was hard to decide which was worse.
âCome now,â he said, his tone softer again. âYou will receive no judgment from me. Is it something embarrassing? Something completely irrational? Those do tend to be my favoritesâŠâ
She remained quiet.
âOr,â he said and looked at her with a bored expression. âI could bring the Omuan dreamcatcher in here, present you to every fear known to man, and I can deduce what it is from there. Iâm certain that Hope would not mind if we borrowed it for the day.â
âNo,â she said quickly. âNo-no. Please donât.â
She had seen how Hope had been after her time with the dreamcatcher. She was an empty shell of a person after those sessions.
She swallowed hard and looked at the floor in front of her.
âSpiders,â she admitted quietly. âIâve never liked spidersâŠâ
âAh,â Raphael said with a satisfied smile. âA classic.â
She looked around. Her skin was tingling at the thought. She was already becoming paranoid.
âWhen did you acquire this fear? Were you always afraid of them?â
Her hand shot to the back of her neck where she felt a tingle. Nothing. It had only been her hair touching her. Her skin was becoming increasingly sensitive.
âAs a child,â she said.
âDo elaborate,â he purred with a smile.
Her breath hitched at the memory a bit.
âI was in my bed,â she explained. âI turned to lay on my back and looked at the ceiling. I saw it just before it fell down into my face.â
âMm,â he hummed. âThat does sound rather unpleasant.â
His eyes slowly turned upwards to look at the ceiling above her. She flinched and looked up. Nothing. Raphael chuckled at her movement.
âI can almost hear your heartbeat from over here,â he purred. âSuch a pretty soundâŠâ
âI beg you, Raphael,â she pleaded. âIâll do anything. Just please donâtââ
âShh-sh-sh,â he hushed gently. âWe are only talking.â
He leaned forward slightly in his chair.
âI am a jealous man, my dear. Itâs one of my less attractive qualities, Iâm afraid, but it is so. So, you must understand how it irks me to find that your fear of me is only second to that of the eight-legged vermin you seem to hate so much.â
Her hand darted up to her hair where she scratched her scalp. She swore that she could feel them everywhere, even though she knew that it was only her fear that made her feel things. For now, anyway.
She felt something hit her shoulder from above and squealed. She brushed her shoulder in a panic and swore that she felt something furry touch her hand as she did. She quickly moved her body away from the wall she had been sitting against, closer to Raphael and let out a whine. Her eyes searched where she had just sat but once again: nothing.
âTell me,â Raphael said in an amused tone. âWhat do you think causes this fear of yours?â
She was practically sitting between his legs now. He ran his claws slowly over her scalp and it made her shiver in her overstimulated state. She wrapped both her arms over her head like a stubborn child refusing to let their parents comb their hair. She knew that she was pathetic, but she could not control it at this point.
Raphael brushed two claws against the back of her neck in a featherlight touch, making her flinch again. He still wanted an answer, and maybe as long as she spoke, he would not do anything. She quickly tried to construct a sentence in her scattered mind.
âIâI donât know,â she said. âToo many limbs maybe. I donât know.â
âWell,â he said with a mocking laugh. âI am one limb short of eight in this form. That doesnât make you fear me any more than your eight-legged friends, evidently. It must be something else, mustnât it?â
His claws tapped her arm in a way that mimicked a spiderâs legs, and she flinched away from him. She moved back to where she was sitting before. She could see on his face that he was enjoying every second of this.
His smile widened as he unstretched one hand and snapped his fingers with the other. A fat, long-legged spider hovered over his hand, and she started crying again. She did not want to look at it, but on the other hand, if she did not, she could not know where it was. She watched in horror as the small creature clumsily and frantically tried to move in the air but could not.
Raphael studied it with a bored gaze while she pleaded for him to stop.
âHave you ever noticed how the creatures humans fear irrationally are rarely mammalian?â he mused over her sobbing. âSpiders, insects, snakes, birdsâŠI do suppose rats and mice are an exception, but there is a theme, isnât there?â
She had backed herself into the corner of the room. She could not get further away, and she was still uncontrollably crying.
âCats, dogs, horsesâŠFeeble-minded creatures, but the human need to anthropomorphize makes you believe that they are perhaps not so different from yourself. A spider, on the other handâŠâ
She let out a long whine as he pinned the spider to one position in the air and made it hover slowly towards her face. She screamed when it came to a stop in front of her. Its legs were still moving, but it was facing her. She could not breathe.
âItâs scared,â Raphael cooed mockingly. âTerrified, like you. Yet you cannot sympathize with it. Your brain will not let you. So much for human compassion, hm?â
He got up from his chair. He snapped his fingers, and the spider disappeared. He leaned down slightly and loosely put his hand around her neck. The claw on his thumb dug into her as he tilted her head back to look at him.
âLook at me.â
She whimpered and looked up at his face.
âTell me, my sweet,â he purred. âWhat is it like to stare into the eyes of a creature and realizing that they do not work like you? That they do not have feelings in any way that you understand them? That there is nothing human in thereâŠâ
She looked into those yellow eyes of his and felt the same way as he just described.
âTerrifyingâŠâ she muttered.
âGood,â he said in a low growl, smiling at her. âTerrifying, yes.â
He snapped his fingers, and she felt something on her shoulder. She frantically tried to move away, but Raphaelâs grip around her neck tightened. He pushed her head back against the wall.
âDonât. Move,â he said firmly. âYou are not leaving this cell before you realize that the only thing in this world you will ever need to fear, is me. Serve me well, and you will never have to fear at allâŠâ
She felt the spiders furry legs move slowly over her skin. She gasped for breath as her tears started rolling down her cheeks again. She knew that Raphael would not stop this before she did as he said. His grip loosened when he saw her freeze instead of continuing her attempt to flee.
He let go of her and stood up tall to admire her pathetic state on the floor. He began unbuttoning his doublet while he watched. She felt the spiders legs on her collarbone, slowly making its way across her chest. She sobbed quietly and did everything in her power not to move.
âI think it likes you,â Raphael purred in an amused tone.
He hung his doublet over the chair. He was only in his white shirt and pants, and she could now see just how excited the whole situation was making him. His erection strained against his pants. He walked closer to her so that he was now towering above her.
He slowly tipped her head back with a claw under her chin.
She screamed but the fear had now paralyzed her so much that she could not move even if she wanted to. There were hundreds of them above them on the ceiling, and they were all the size of a palm. The scream turned into a sob as she stared upwards.
He was smiling in an almost fond way as he feasted on her terrified expression. She felt his hand cup her cheek. He wiped the tears on her cheeks with his palm, before moving his hand to his now freed member. He gave it a few lazy strokes, using her tears to lubricate his length while he watched her with a heavy-lidded gaze. He gave a content sigh.
He put his thumb and index finger on each side of her jaw with his free hand, forcing her to open her mouth.
âIf I feel teeth, I will show you the true meaning of fear,â he warned.
He ran the tip of his cock over her bottom lip, smearing his precum on her trembling mouth. He pressed his cock inside and her mouth closed around it. A deep groan escaped his mouth.
âSuch a good girl,â he purred with a smile.
He began slowly moving in and out of her mouth with languid thrusts. His hand moved to where the spider had nestled in her cleavage to pick it up. He gently placed it on her head, making her sob around his cock. She choked as she forced herself not to bite him. He growled in pleasure.
âWe are making such wonderful progress, my dear,â he said. His voice was slightly breathier and huskier now. âI believe that you are beginning to understand⊠Fear does not excuse negligence.â
Her eyes closed shut as she could feel the spiderâs legs on her face. She whimpered, but the sound came to an abrupt end when he shoved his cock further down her throat. He gently shushed her and caressed her tear-stained cheek with his thumb. She could not breathe.
She gagged but he did not seem to care. The sounds she made, the way her crying and trembling was making her throat feel, the way she looked so utterly pathetic: it was pure bliss for him. He suddenly snapped his fingers. She felt the spider on her face disappear. Her eyes opened and she looked at the ceiling: nothing.
She did not get to revel in her relief before Raphael started fucking her face with hard, violent thrusts. His hand clasped around her throat again in a hard grip. She could not breathe at all, and she started squirming and panicking. Her limbs flailed as she tried to get away, but her back was up against the wall. There was nowhere to move.
She tried pushing him away, hitting his legs, but he was unmovable. She looked up at him with panicked and pleading eyes, and it only seemed to excite him further. He did not cease his violent assault on her face.
âI lost a small fortune,â he growled. âAll because of a frightened, stupid, little girl.â
She tried everything to move, but his grip on her only tightened when she did. Soon, she would not have the energy to fight anymore. Her throat was hurting so much. The grim thought that this might be how she died flashed into her mind, making her panic even worse.
âNothing would excite me more than watching the life leave your eyes,â he growled as if having read her thoughts. âInstead, I think I will let this be a reminder to you, dear girl: the next time you feel tempted to let your fear control you, remember what it gets you⊠Nothing.â
She stopped moving and she could feel herself slowly beginning to lose consciousness. He shoved his cock as far down her throat as it would go. Her nose was brushing against his pelvis. It was painful and she felt like throwing up. He gave a deep groan as he came down her throat.
She gasped for breath when he pulled out. She coughed hard. She spat a mix of blood, cum, and saliva onto the floor in front of her as she wheezed for breath. She felt like throwing up, but she couldnât.
When she finally looked up, Raphael was watching her with a small smile as he began buttoning his doublet.
âI trust you have learned your lesson?â
She nodded quickly. She could not stop coughing, and every cough felt swallowing knives.
âGood,â he purred. âYou did wellâŠâ
He turned and opened the door to the cell with a snap. She tried to scramble to her feet to follow him out. Just as she had gotten up off the floor, he stepped outside the cell and closed the door in her face.
He smirked as he looked at her for a long moment. Then his eyes slowly drifted to the ceiling above her. Her lips began trembling again as she kept looking at him.
âKorrilla will come get you in the morning,â he said in a cold, even tone. âIf I have decided to forgive you by thenâŠâ
There was the softest thud as she felt something land on her shoulder. Then another on the floor. Then another as she felt something fall off her head. Then another.
There were no more tears in her, and no screams came out of her ruined throat. Just a quiet, broken wheeze came out of her mouth as she looked upwards.

okay everyone today letâs talk about profound, overwhelming emotion as a theme in Veilguard
Sounds fun right
Gonna do like a sort of deconstructed essay thing (or I WAS, but this is an actual essay. Sigh)
Thesis: DATV is exploring how its characters confront and process emotions and events so overwhelming that they could define the characters entire lives if ignored or pushed aside; the player is encouraged to provide the characters with the appropriate emotional tools to dismantle the seemingly impossible obstacles that stand in their way, in order to complete their character arcs and contribute to the resolution of the central conflict.
WOagh this got way long, like REALLY long, so I am cutting here. I hope you didn't think the Grey Warden essay was verbose, bc this is much longer! You've been warned lol
PART I: ISATUNOLL
I feel like we have to talk about Harding first bc whatâs more overwhelming than having the entire history of your race shoved on you at once? (I've decided to relocate to the computer, so you know I'm taking this seriously) So Harding gets magic rock powers, and then you have that sort of lull in her story where she's just trying to feel them out, but you can already see the game setting up the dilemma, because she's constantly checking against Rook to see what they think about it. She doesn't know how to feel-- should she be worried, excited? You can encourage her down different paths, but whatever you choose, you're providing a way for her to conceptualize this thing that (as far as she knows) has never really happened to anyone else.
And then when you go to meet the Oracle, the game introduces the idea of this overwhelming rage, this intense frustration that IS hers, but also isn't. She (probably) doesn't know what happened to the Titans by that point (you can do Regrets of the Dread Wolf pretty early but idk if it's able to be finished at that point?) but I think the stone giant you fight there is her inborn anger resonating with the much larger, dormant anger of the Titans. And you see her deny her own anger and her own feelings generally (the coffee scene with Lucanis, while tonally lighthearted, is intended to set this up). Again, Rook can intervene, and this time you also see your companions providing their own advice (Lucanis and Taash both tell her not to hide her anger/try to make people happy and Davrin repeatedly urges her to stand and face 'whatever it is' directly). So both Rook and their friends are supplying tools to deal with this upcoming confrontation.
So, the culmination of the arc comes in Isana Negat, where Harding faces the physically manifested anger of the Titans in the form of herself. She says it is her anger, and it IS, she is angry and they are angry, together; Isatunoll-- I am, we are. She did not know what to do with it, and that is why it is here; the game is positing that avoiding confrontation and acceptance of one's feelings can lead to harm for oneself AND for others. It IS Harding that is attacking you, because it was her raising the enemies in the cavern. But, at the same time, Harding is here out of a desire to protect others, and she is compassionate to this manifestation; she apologizes for not knowing how to confront it and letting it run wild in this way.
Fortunately, by this point Rook and company have already provided her with the tools to be successful in this encounter. She does not turn away from her anger, she does not attempt to run or dissemble as she might have done before. By the time Rook reaches the platform she has already absorbed the being; she is just having a hard time fully accepting it. Rook and the other companion physically grab hold of her, as Rook directs her down the path of acceptance through compassion, or acceptance through embracing anger. It is important that neither choice offers a denial. Through the strength of the unity of the team, here represented by physical closeness, and because Harding herself has changed as a character, she is able to integrate the Titans' anger and affirm that she and the other dwarves will continue to persist in spite of what was done to them. DAI players may recognize this as a well-placed echo of the conversation thread between Solas and Varric about the man who persisted in spite of losing everything; Varric said then that the fact that the man lived, that he continued, was a triumph in itself. The dwarves triumph as a race here, by not allowing the horrific violation committed against the Titans destroy them, and so does Harding.
The final piece of Harding's journey is her meeting with Stalgard and his sister outside of Isana Negat, in front of the mountain that was/is a Titan. She returns to them the knowledge that was lost for centuries, and the anger that comes with it, but affirms that they cannot return to what was; this brings change, GOOD change, to the dwarven people and will redefine them. By successfully accepting this outsized emotional trauma, Harding has helped her people, and becomes a more effective member of her team. Catharsis, acceptance, and emotional growth make her stronger.
PART II: I AM NOT THIS
When Rook meets Lucanis, he has been kept in a prison for a year, being tortured and violated by the Venatori, who have been attempting to turn him into a demon. It hasn't worked correctly, because Lucanis and Spite have an accord. However, you first see him just kind of running around killing whoever he comes across; Rook provide direction and a specific target, a chance for freedom. It is significant here that the prison is underwater; Lucanis is, metaphorically, drowning. The prison is also referred to as the Ossuary, which is a place you store the bones of the dead; the outside world believed he was dead, and, metaphorically, he did die here. You kill his torturer, but it is not enough; the woman who kidnapped him and the orchestrator of his violation still lives.
Rook returns to Treviso where Lucanis finds out that he has truly lost almost everything. His grandmother, Caterina, appears to be dead, and his city, Treviso, is occupied by the Antaam. The only thing he has left is Illario, and he immediately grabs onto the idea that Zara, who he believes killed Caterina, is going to kill Illario, too. He panics in response, but he is trained as a Crow to shut down his emotion, and practiced at doing so from his year spent constantly disassociating in the Ossuary. He says he needs to work; Illario and Teia protest, but he insists. He is returning to the thing he knows how to do, grabbing for a sense of normalcy when everything else is lost and he believes the little he has left is in danger. He will destroy the threat and this will also conveniently allow him to put off his real emotional trauma from the prior year.
Every cutscene Rook has with Lucanis between his major plot events in this section involves him trying to contain and ignore Spite. He tries to constantly stay awake to ensure that the demon cannot take over, and he tries to befriend and placate his new associates by buying them stuff (a VERY rich person thing to do) and taking care of them. He is trying to convince himself and them that he is NOT dangerous; he is not a demon, not an abomination. But he is not confronting his fear, he is only putting it off; often, in conversation with others he will be flippant about Spite, or he will deflect their concern about it. He chooses his 'bedroom' in part because it can contain Spite, and because it is the farthest possible location from the Eluvian, where Spite keeps trying to go (I just noticed that! Very fun!). In the meantime, he is also ignoring the fact that Illario is being extremely suspicious, because he doesn't want to know that his brother is the one who hurt him. Lucanis is an astute person by nature, and could certainly have observed this, had he not been deliberately trying to obscure it from himself.
Davrin is a huge problem for him because he is the most direct person in Veilguard. He shows up and tells Lucanis that if Spite overtakes him, he will kill him. This touches on Lucanis' fear of his own lack of control and drives too directly at what he wants to ignore. They are immediately at odds, which is made worse by Lucanis' 'failure' at Weisshaupt, which causes him to lash out at Davrin. He believes that the fact that he was unable to kill Ghilan'nain is indicative of him losing his abilities as an assassin, which is one of the only familiar things that he has left. Fortunately, Rook and company are there to reassure him; the situation is helped by the presence of Taash, Emmrich and Neve, who are unafraid of Spite, and whom he can rely on to control the demon if he cannot. However, the problem remains that he refuses to seriously deal with Spite in any way. As the inextricable representation of Lucanis' trauma (it would LITERALLY kill him to remove it), ignoring him means Lucanis is unable come to terms with what has happened.
This comes to a head when Illario kills Zara, and Lucanis is unable to stop Spite from almost murdering his brother with his own body in response. This is the final, most devastating loss of control. He apologizes to Rook for the lapse, and tries to refocus on Illario, who he now has definitive proof betrayed him. He says he is going to take everything away from him, but truly this is just another distraction; revenge is not going to be enough because it will just mean that he has nothing on which to focus his and Spite's combined ire, and then he will still have a demon inside him and no accord. What saves him is Rook, and finding out that Caterina is still alive. This is fantastic news because it means he hasn't lost everything, but it also presents a dilemma; is it more important to attack Illario, to seek revenge, even if it endangers Caterina's life? Does he risk what he values most-- his family-- to pursue his vengeance?
I was going to write an entirely separate post on the mind prison, my favorite part of Lucanis' arc, so I'll (try) to be brief here. The metaphorical Ossuary is a prison of Lucanis' fear; those he is scared he will hurt, or who will see him for what he believes he is: a demon. In order to get him out of it, Rook needs to cooperate with Spite, and confront each fear individually, breaking down their flawed presuppositions about Lucanis which are trapping him there. It is also significant that Lucanis himself is unable to articulate that he is trapped, and is even unable to ask for help; it is Spite who invites Rook in and concretizes Lucanis' emotional state. He can't get out alone. When Rook reaches Lucanis he admits that he has been avoiding his emotions but that, "It's just... so much. I don't know where to begin."
What happened to Lucanis was life-alteringly traumatic. It is unsurprising that he does not have the tools to effectively confront it. However, Rook encourages him here to begin the process by creating an agreement with Spite in the short-term. Process your trauma by breaking it down and taking it one step at a time. After this section in the game, the player can hear Lucanis converse with his friends about trying to work with Spite; about how the spirit is learning to understand the physical world, and they are no longer fighting. Again, we see that ignoring his emotions was hurting both Lucanis himself and other people, and that by moving forward, no matter how slowly, he can regain control of his life and build a new one alongside Spite, accepting the new circumstance.
When he confronts Illario for what he did and, incidentally, control over the Crows, he does not kill him. He never loses control and he and Spite work together to resist the blood magic that Illario attempts to use on them. Working through his problems with the support of his team allows Lucanis to preserve what he values-- his family, the Crows-- instead of pursuing an endless and ultimately pointless crusade of death in an attempt to avoid his problems. He makes the Crows stronger and heals himself through confronting and accepting his emotions.
PART III: I WILL GO AND SEEK ATONEMENT
Hey it's Solas! Remember how this game used to be called Dreadwolf? That was probably because he's the thematic anchor of the narrative. So, here we go. (This section is going to discuss the 'good ending' for Solas, because I don't think the others really feed into this theme much.)
Solas is the instigator of the conflict in Veilguard, and he may be an antagonistic force throughout the story, depending on how Rook chooses to deal with him. This game gives confirmation that Solas is a spirit, and so the generally established rules apply: he acts as you expect him to act, he is what you expect him to be, so the player is likely to have wildly variable experiences with him.
Throughout the game the player can encounter sections which depict his greatest regrets in his life so far; taking physical form, creating the weapon that severed the Titans' dreams, incidentally creating the Blight, accidentally sending Mythal to her death, and accidentally creating the Veil (dang, nothing goes right for this guy lol). This series of decisions led, in Solas' time, to monumental harm for countless people, and it is what has led him to his current course. He cannot stop because he is utterly trapped in his regret; these moments, though degraded, surrounded him within the Lighthouse while he planned for a decade. The Caretaker tells you that his regrets are so vicious that they are the teeth with which Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain are tearing into the Crossroads. Solas is destroying something beautiful he helped build because he is unable to let go of the past.
Although you, dear reader, may have your own opinion of him, Solas is undeniably compassionate. In DAI, he will give you massive amounts of approval for simply helping out villagers and performing menial tasks that serve no greater purpose than to alleviate suffering. The amount of suffering he (mostly) unintentionally caused could do nothing but horrify and pain him. His regret is oceanic. If you decide to persuade him to your side at the end of the game, one of the reasons he cites for continuing down his destructive path is because it would dishonor those he has wronged if he were to abandon his work. He is sunk cost fallacy-ing himself into mass murder, basically.
Part of the reason that he is doing this is because, like with Lucanis' issues, the emotion, the weight of the repeated failure is almost too big to effectively reckon with. But Rook can help him do it. Throughout the game Solas watches through his avatar in the Lighthouse; he sees Rook build their team, sees them solve the problems of the people around them and find strength in unity, and so when they appear in Minrathous he does actually believe that they can solve the problem that he cannot. He is deceiving Rook when he gives them the dagger, true, but this is his most valuable asset in the fight; if he did not believe in their success, it would be extremely foolish to give it to them and to commit himself to the comparatively lesser evil of Lusacan. So, Rook has effectively proven the Power of Friendship, as it were, through their actions in Veilguard.
To achieve the 'good end' for Solas, you need to have finished Regrets of the Dreadwolf and successfully confronted the fragment of Mythal that lives in the Crossroads. She will be impressed by your work in proportion to the amount of things in the game you've finished, so you must have bonded with your companions and you must have freed the Crossroads from the ravages of Solas' regrets. He helped make the mess, but other people can help him fix it, which is essentially the point that Mythal makes to him at the end; that he's not literally solely responsible for actually every bad thing that's ever happened.
You also have to tell the Inquisitor to attempt to reach him, which will lead to them saying something about forgiving his past actions if he stops trying to destroy the Veil presently (I assume the dialogue is similar in the friendship route; I have a Solas-romancing Inquisitor and that's basically what she said. I felt that part was general enough it probably carried over). All of these people and various pieces of Solas' past and present are here to break down the gigantic wall of regret that's preventing him from doing the right thing in this moment. All of his arguments for why he must keep going are refuted by these people he cared for, and to whom his regrets are attached.
Through Rook's actions they have demonstrated their ability to solve seemingly overwhelming problems. You can help Harding tame the anger of the Titans, you can help Lucanis confront his trauma, and you can help Solas finally see past his regret and be the hero he has always wanted to be. This is obviously not the only route the player can take through the game, but if they do, they help create a narrative that repeatedly deals with deconstructing and resolving overwhelming emotion. (Dear readers, remind me to make a post about Bioware games and participatory storytelling.) The story examines how intense emotion, ignored or denied, hurts oneself and others, and presents several solutions which all begin with asking for help. There is strength in unity, in compassion and togetherness, and if you cannot see the way forward alone, you will find it with other people.
WhEw okay if you actually finished reading that give yourself a high five and take a lollipop from the basket on your way out the door
on any other platform I think I would have hit a word limit of some kind, so thanks tumblr
edits incoming? very tired rn. Think I had some other point to make about Solas that I forgot maybe. I also think I could've added some of the other companions to this (Taash and Bellara were top candidates) but imo these two are the strongest for this particular theme. And it was already so long lol
okay I sleep soon. you can lmk what you think if you want? don't be a dick tho, I hope that goes without saying lmao

Ahaha that is a great gif @lamentationsofalonelypotato! Diving into the rest of your lovely comments...
I mean, I'm sad that it's coming to a close, but I'm hoping that in the future there might be a fic with a little Elijah (or a little Jude) running around. đ
I was also sad to get to the end, but tbh I still had ideas even after writing the ending. So you might be on to something there with a little Elijah... đ
I love the little details about him and Benny pranking each other, but it really just made me sad because Dean left them đ But at the same time they are opening up with one another and sharing their life stories and I couldn't be happier.
It's bittersweet, isn't it? đ„Č On the one hand, bonding. On the other hand, it's a memory of everything Dean's left behind.
Again I stan a strong woman and Mila is just so stinking badass that I love her so much. Also yes girl, PROTECT đđ» YOURđđ» MANđđ»
Hahaa I love her too!! đ„° 100% She's gotta protect her man, even if she's not totally sure he should be her man yet. đ
Love that you're referencing the honorable choice title here, and showing that Dean is a man of honor and that he did make a choice that maybe messed up his life, but he cared more about doing the right thing. And I think you did a great job of titling the series and the chapters in general. Each one corresponds beautifully to the themes in the chapters so you should be proud!
Aw thank you so much!! I try my best to create meaningful story titles and chapter titles, and making room for those moments that reflect the major themes of the story. "Choice" is of course the biggest theme in this story, as it could be for every story--characters making decisions that push the story forward and help define their character.
I know that something dramatic is about to happen and that I shouldn't be thinking about this right now, but I just love height difference so muchđ. When a guy is bigger than his girl oh wow it sends me to the moon. I think it's so cute and goodness the cuddles must be so fun.
LOL I love it!! I absolutely love the height difference thing too. đ I'd imagine the spooning is the best!
Again, devastating moment, but... SHE SAID HIS NAME FOR THE FIRST TIME! And the running her fingers through his hair?!?!?!?!
She said his name for the first time!! That moment after the river was probably my favorite scene to write, since it's the first time they truly explore their connection. đ„°
I'm cackling. I love Mila so much. The sass, the teasing. Oh goodness they're so cute and I am so scared that there's going to be a last minute perilous situation and somebody is gonna die.
Ahaha don't be too scared! I'm all about happy endings, and I'm so glad you're loving their dynamic. đ
Also him respecting her when she said that she doesn't have sex before marriage is just so HONORABLE AND WORTHY and why can't there be men that respectful all the time? Dean Winchester is really just ruining other men for me everywhere. đ
Ughh right?? Dean is just a Good Man, no matter how much he doesn't see it in himself sometimes.
So... the face squishing is a family trait I see. But man, Dean standing there while a random lady just squishing his face while his eyes are wide in horror is so funny to me.
Ahaha I'm so glad you caught that! It was such a funny visual to me too, and I felt like it was something that would happen to Dean. đ
This bit is so good. It's so true and honest and a little heart breaking, but it's such a wonderful thing for them to talk about, because Mila knows that he's thrown away his life to save hers. And it's so wonderful that he's able to give her that confirmation and reassurance that he doesn't regret the choice he made. Because it was the right choice, the -AHEM- Honorable Choice lol đ
Aww thank you. There are a lot of bittersweet moments in this, and this is one of them. But like you said, I felt it was important for them to have this moment where she acknowledges what he's done for her, as well as gauging if he holds any resentment. Of course, Dean doesn't regret his choice. đ
Oh this chapter was so good my sweet friend! I'm a little sad to see that it's ending, but it was so wonderfully written and neither of them died. I was really scared about that đ
. AND it ended with a wedding (sort of?). Now little Elijah can run around the camp helping his mother and learn how to break in horses with his father. â€ïž
Thank you very, very much my wonderful friend!! đ I'm too much of a hopeless romantic to have either Dean or Mila die. I researched into wedding customs for the Lakota people at this time, and apparently until Christianity reached their culture, they didn't have formal "weddings" in the sense that we know them today. It was more of, as long as the man got the blessing of the woman's father (and gave a nice gift), the couple would pair off and from then on live together as husband and wife.
Safe to say, Dean didn't get the chance to go about that custom lol, but there are other cultural elements I would want to explore in future chapters--along with them having a kid!! I LOVE the idea of Dean finding his role in the tribe by helping take care of/break in the horses. đđ
Thank you again so much for reading!
The Honorable Choice - Part 3
Pairing:Â Dean Winchester x OFCÂ
Summary: June 1872. Captain Dean Winchester of the U.S. Cavalry is tasked with one job: break a wild mustang. He just didnât expect the woman who infiltrates his camp, intent on freeing her tribeâs horse.
AN: The last chapter! Hold on, it's about to get bumpy...
Disclaimer: I got inspired after a recent rewatch of Spirit: The Stallion of the Cimarron (literally a perfect movie), as well as having Yellowstone in the back of my brain. Iâve done extensive research for this one, both on the American Indian Lakota tribe, and on American history during this time in the late 1800s (AKA: the Old West, during the American Indian Wars and the Sioux Wars). Of course, one of my main goals is to avoid inaccuracies, both historical and cultural.

Part 3: Worthy
They travel together for two more days. Dean isnât really a talkative man, but inevitably, he finds himself speaking to fill the comfortable stretches of quiet plodding across the grasslands.
He tells her about growing up on his familyâs farm, where his father was firm but fair, and a larger-than-life presence when Sam and Dean were kids. His mother though, she was the only one who could ever go toe to toe with John Winchester and win.
âShe tamed him,â Mila remarks with a smile. Deanâs lips quirk in response.
âI wouldnât go that far,â he chuckles, âbut he knew he couldnât pull a whole lot of shit with Mom. Sheâs a real pistol when sheâs gotta be.â
Talking about them makes his heart heavy and sobers his mood, so he deflects with other stories, other chapters of his life.Â
He talks about going through basic training alongside Benny Lafitte. As privates, Dean pranked his friend by filling his lumpy old pillow with raw eggs and chicken feathers. In retaliation, Benny swapped Deanâs morning coffee with actual dirt and hot water. Their boyish games escalated until they were nearly kicked out of the military.
Dean managed to smooth things over though. Heâs always had a way of charming people, even the gruff Sergeant Major, Bobby Singer.
Mila admits that she and her cousin Ć Ăłta used to sneak out of the village when they were younger. He taught her how to climb trees, how to fight and protect herself, and how to ride a horse astride, like a man. He was the only one who ever encouraged her to have the âfree mindâ her mother dreamed about.
The more she confides in him, her eyes sparking with life and her hands gesticulating along with her words, the more Dean listens. Â
On the third day, itâs nearing mid-afternoon when Dean slows Baby to a stop. After miles and miles of forest and grassland covered, theyâve finally approached a large, wide river. Mila stops beside him.
âMy tribe lives beyond the river,â she says, âbut the current is strong now.â
Dean looks over at her. A question he hasnât wanted to ask crops back up. He feels that now is the time to voice it.
âYeah, about thatâŠIâm thinking your tribe doesnât take very well to outsiders,â he says. âWhite men in particular.â
Mila presses her lips together. He can tell sheâs been thinking the same thing, but she turns to him with a determined set to her features.
âI will protect you,â she says.
Dean frowns. He doesnât like the sound of that. On one hand, it warms him that she seems to really mean it. On the other hand, he doesnât want to know what itâll take for her to protect him.
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â he asks.
She turns her face away and doesnât seem to want to answer at first.
âMilaâŠâ
âThe Chief is my uncle,â she says at last. âHe will listen to me.â
Dean blinks. Well, that changes thingsâŠmaybe.
Heâs still not convinced, but at this point, he really doesnât have many options. Itâs either take his chances with her tribe, or become a vagabond. Heâs not sure how long he could survive in wilds of the West alone, especially while trying to dodge military patrols.
In the past three days, itâs taken Dean all that time to come to terms with a simple fact. Heâll likely never see his brother again, or his mother. Itâs a pain that cuts into him deeply, down to his bones. It stings behind his eyes.
But if he only has two choices, then he at least wants to make sure Mila gets home safelyâŠeven if that means he wonât be.
Heâs come this far. If his career is worth the price of what he feels is right, then his life is worth it too.
With that decision made, Dean expels a long, somewhat faltering breath. He locks away the rest of his uncertainty, his apprehension, and even his grief. He hides deep inside, where she wonât see it.Â
âAll right, the current doesnât look too bad over here,â he says, pointing to farther north along the river. âThe horses can make it.â
Mila nods in agreement. She still looks uneasy, though she tries to hide it too. She ventures ahead into the river. Dean follows close behind.
The water is shallow at first, but it all too quickly gets deeper. The horses plod over the river stones and vegetation under the surface, and the humans are led deeper, until theyâre submerged into the water up to their waists.
Itâs good that Mila rides that giant mustang; if she were on a mare, like Dean, sheâd already be sunk up to her shoulders. Babyâs a big girl, to be sure, but Mila is nearly a foot shorter than him, with a smaller frame. He watches her carefully as she makes her way ahead of him.
Thatâs why heâs able to act fast when Mato slips, dunking Mila under the water. She gasps and tries to cling onto him, but the current is fierce. It pushes Mato down the river no matter how much he scrambles and kicks at the water, braying wildly in distress.
Shit! Dean tugs sharply at Babyâs reigns and strives to catch up to them. He grabs Matoâs reigns and pulls and pulls, until he and Baby are able to drag him to the other side of the river where he can get a foothold with his hooves.
Mila is starting to fall off his back. She struggles to cling on while the river pushes at her, with her wet hair falling in her eyes. Dean leans back as far as he can to try and pull her up.
âItâs okay, Iâve gotcha,â he calls out, even though his heart hammers with alarm.
She reaches out for his hand in turn. Just as his fingers begin to close over hers, a wave from the current crashes into her. A short scream tears from her throat after she loses her grip on Matoâs neck. Without her weight, heâs able to pull himself back up onto the bank along with Baby.
Damn it! Gut-wrenching alarm spears Dean into action. He leaps down from Baby and removes his gloves, his hat, and his uniform jacket, so he can dive into the water. Thank God heâs a strong swimmer.
Mila seems to be too. She carves through the water against the current the best she can and tries to keep her head above the waves, but Dean can see itâs a losing battle. He manages to grab hold of her arm, and then wraps an arm around her waist to keep her close. Both of them work together to try and cling to any passing rock or low-hanging vine as the current sweeps them out toward an ultimate end.
A waterfall.
Of course. Goddamn it. Dean doesnât know how steep it is on the other side, and he doesnât want to know. All heâs trying to do is keep himself and Mila above the water.
She hooks her hand around a sharp rock. It bites into her hand, making her cry out, but she clings to it for all sheâs worth. She holds onto Dean just as tightly, even though the current wants to take him. She tries to pull him closer, close enough for him to get a hold on the rock as well.
This time, itâs Dean who loses his footing. The rocks slip beneath the soles of his feet when he attempts to gain some leverage.
A shout of surprise escapes from him when he fails, and it gets swallowed up by water rushing down his throat.
âDean!â Mila yells, for the first time using his name. The last thing he registers is the fear in her eyesâafraid for him.
The river takes him over the edge of the abyss, and he falls.
He never expected that he would get to open his eyes again, let alone to the sight that greets him. Milaâs familiar face, framed by the dark, drying waves of her hair, is bright with firelight. It dances in orange-gold across her features. Her eyes are warm like rich molasses when she looks down and finds him awake.
She smiles in relief.
He realizes that heâs lying on soft grass with his head pillowed in her lap. Sheâs taken off his boots and half of his white undershirt; she tore one of his sleeves to wrap around a mercifully shallow gash in his shoulder.
The horses are drinking from the river nearby, with a pile of apples split between them. Thereâs a fish roasted over the fire, but all Dean cares about is the way her fingers are running through his hair. She sings a soft song under her breath while she passes her other hand over his injured arm without touching it.
He doesnât understand the words, but he thinks she might be trying to heal him. Heâs heard plenty of stories about the Sioux people, most heâs taken with a grain of salt. He does remember Cas saying that their healers are different from doctors. Â
Deanâs never given their hoodoo much thought, but right about now, he hopes it works.
âMorninâ,â he croaks.
Milaâs relieved face becomes touched with amusement.
âItâs night,â she says. âYou slept for a long time.â
Dean wants to sit up and take an inventory of his injuries, but he canât make his body move just yet. Heâs too tired and bruised. He also likes being in her arms. He likes her fingers in his hair, now moving to his cheek. He sighs through his nose in contentment as her thumb drifts over his overgrown stubble.Â
âThank you,â she says. Emotion is thick in her voice.
Dean meets her eyes again, and he smiles. He raises the back of his hand to touch her smooth cheek, gently. He lets his fingers glide across her tan skin, down the column of her neck. Her breath hitches.
She takes his calloused hand in her slender one. Her long hair falls like a curtain over her shoulder, almost like itâs shielding them from whatever is left to come for them beyond the forest. Dean wraps an ebony strand around his finger, just to feel it fall loosely again.
âYouâre beautiful, you know that?â he says.
Mila graces him with another smile from her lips. He wants to know what they taste like.
âI guess you are pretty, for a White Man,â she says teasingly.
Her fingers trace his brow, his jawline, even the tip of his chin. She seems to be avoiding his plush mouth, even though her gaze keeps dropping there. Dean pretends to frown.
âSweetheart, thatâs not the way you talk about a man,â he says.
Her brows raise. âNo?â
âHandsome. Strong. Toothsome, if you will,â he says, enjoying the way she begins to blush. âThatâs what you wanna call a man.â
âToothsome. I donât know this word,â she admits. âAm I supposed to eat you?â
Dean resists the urge to say the first incorrigible thing that pops into his head. Instead, his body shakes with laughter.
Itâs difficult at first, all his muscles pulling at him in protest, but he raises himself into a sitting position. He cups Milaâs cheek, dragging his thumb across her lower lip. Her lashes are dark and long. They move when she looks up at him. He knows the look in her eyes, wanting, desiring, but also unsure of what she should allow him.
Dean leans in slowly, giving her time to decide.
She tilts her face up to his. He noses at her cheek, his eyes falling closed along with hers.
He finds her lips with his own on instinct and feeling alone. Soft and tender movements, testing, asking.
She answers him. Her fingers tangle in the front of his tattered shirt as her lips begin to move against his. Dean wraps an arm around her waist and gathers her against his chest. His other hand glides down her arm, down her side and along every soft curve. Her clothes are still damp, and so are his.
âItâll be faster to dry our clothes if weâre not wearing âem,â Dean rumbles. His voice is deep with desire. He presses kisses along the side of her jaw, behind her ear, down her neck and shoulder. He earns her pleased hum, her heavier breaths, and her fingers once again in his hair.
âI canât,â she gasps. She says something in her native tongue, too fast for Dean to even register. He slows down so he can meet her eyes.
âWhat was that?â he asks. Her face falls, and she starts to trip over her words.
âI am notâŠhow you say, married. I have to beâŠâ
Dean smiles ruefully, sliding a strand of hair behind her ear.
âChaste?â he offers. She nods, her brows furrowed. Her grip on his shirt tightens.
âYes,â she says. âIn the eyes of my people, it isâŠâ
âI get it,â Dean says. When she still seems conflicted, he presses a kiss to her forehead.Â
âReally, I understand,â he says.
His problem is that he stares into her eyes too long, and at her kiss-swollen lips. He dives back in for another taste.
This time, heâs a little less gentlemanly than he promised. His tongue sweeps along her lower lip, begging entrance. She makes a sound of surprise, but she opens up to him. Her gentle hands slide up his chest to hold his face, and her thumbs stroke his cheeks. He holds one of her wrists to keep her there as his tongue dances with hers. She tastes like the river, and like salty tears.
Had she cried for him? How long did she sit with his body, waiting to see if he would wake up?
Despite those worrying thoughts, Dean knows this feels right. More right than heâs ever felt.
Itâs harder than he mightâve imagined, but he still pulls away, before he wonât be able to stop himself. Mila pants for breath. She seems to feel she should let him go, but also doesnât show any sign of wanting to. Smiling, Dean caresses her cheek one more time before he turns to the fish she roasted.
âThis looks good,â he says, clearing his throat. âWhat kinda fish is this?â
With a sigh, she attempts to steady herself and moves to join him by the fire.
That night, Mila dreams.
She dreams of wings, white and beautiful. She hears the cry of an eagle before she sees his great wingspan take off in flight. He soon finds his mate, and they dance together in the sky.Â
When she wakes, the fire has gone out and itâs still dark in the night. It takes her a moment to realize that sheâs safe. Finally safe.
And sheâs lying securely in Deanâs arms.
Sheâs no longer conflicted when she stares up at his face.
She will bring him home to her tribe, and she will explain. If they still donât welcome him, then she prays for the strength to keep to her honor. Because now, she begins to realizeâŠ
Her heart has already chosen.
âKimmĂmila, what have you done?â her uncle asks in the language of their people.
He is Tahatan, Chief of their tribe.
Milaâs father, Chatan, and her cousin Ć Ăłta have tied Dean Winchester to a post in the center of the Chiefâs large tipi. Dean kneels with his head bowed in respect, even though he keeps sneaking looks at Mila to try and gauge whatâs happening. He doesnât understand a word of any of it.
âYouâve brought this outsider into our village, this White Man!â Tahatan shouts, his voice deep and resounding.
Mila steps forward, despite her motherâs embarrassment and her father trying to grab her shoulder. For the second time in her life, she defies her father for what she believes is right. The first was to rescue a member of their tribeâbecause even a horseâs spirit should not be broken by greed.
âUncle, Iâve told you the story, though you donât want to believe it,â she says. âDean Winchester saved me when he could have killed me, or worse. He defied his own people. He is dead to his own people, for me, and because of me. You may think they lack all honor, but this man is different.â
She looks over at Dean, and he meets her gaze. He wears an anxious frown as he looks between her and the chief, but she has a feeling that his fear is for her, not for himself.
She kneels beside him, then looks up at her uncle with all the stubbornness sheâs ever possessed in her life. She feels itâs led her to exactly this moment.
âAnd we are one,â she says. Nerves trill up her spine as she says it. She predicts the way shock falls over the room. The way her father curses out loud, angry. The way her mother covers her mouth in dismay. The way the Chief takes a step back, tilting his head at his niece.
âYou would take it that far?â he asks.
Her face doesnât change. âItâs already done.â
Tahatan is beside himself, both angry and perplexed. He goes back to his chair of wicker and wood that lies centered in the room. He drops heavily into it. After a long while, in which he thinks in silenceâŠhe releases a heavy sigh. He gestures for his brother and his son to untie Dean. The men do so, but they donât let him go free. They force him to stand and bring him forward to kneel again before the Chief.
âDean Winchester,â Tahatan says.
âYes, sir,â Dean replies.
âYou prove yourself to be a man with honor,â he says in English. âKimmĂmila has chosen you. She claims you have chosen her in return. Do you deny this?â
Dean glances over at her. She bites the inside of her lip, a bit worried about how heâll react. Sheâs not sure he completely understands what Tahatan is telling him, but he nods, regardless.
âNo, sir. I donât deny it,â Dean says.
âThen, you will be allowed to stay, and live among us,â Tahatan declares. "We will see for ourselves what you are. We will see if you are worthy."
Dean gives a nod, crossed with a bow of some kind. He obviously isnât sure of what heâs supposed to do, but he does say thank you. Mila wraps her hands around his uninjured arm and helps him to his feet. She smiles at him to let him know that the worst is over. He blows out a breath in relief.
âIs that it?â he whispers. He expected more of a thrashing, if heâs honest.
âAlmost,â she replies. The two of them stop short before her father, Chatan.
Dean straightens up and holds out his hand. âSir.â
Chatan glances down at the white hand extended toward him. His gaze raises back up to Dean.Â
He grunts in acknowledgement, but he turns on his heels and storms out of the tipi. Her mother comes forward next. She examines Dean from all angles. She takes his face in her hand, somewhat squishing his cheeks, so she can look deeply into his startled eyes.
She seems satisfied by what she finds, and she lets him go. Afterward, she takes Milaâs hand and heaves a deep sigh.
She kisses her daughterâs hand and says nothing else, leaving them to find her husband and calm him down.
Dean turns to Mila with a look that says, please tell me thatâs it.
She smiles more genuinely.
âCome,â she says.
She leads him by the hand out of the Chiefâs tipi and through the village. Dean takes in the rows of other tall, cone-like structures covered in buffalo skin, as well as all the faces that turn to stare at him in a mix of curiosity, wariness, and even fear. Some of them whisper to each other, taking their children by the hand and keeping them close.
Deanâs still on guard himself, even when Mila takes him to a smaller tipi. Itâs been closed up for a while now, by the look of it. Weeds have grown right outside the entrance.Â
âThis oneâs yours?â Dean asks.
She pauses, giving him another small smile. âOurs.â
Dean raises a brow. Ours. Really?
She opens the flap in the front and beckons him inside. Thereâs still enough daylight to shine through the outer lining. Inside, his gaze flits over the old pile of stones in the center for heating, clothes folded in the corner, some cooking pots and utensils, paintings on wood and clay, and a couple of beaded decorations. Buffalo skin bedding is laid out on the other side with a couple of soft looking furs.Â
Son of a gun. Dean doesnât even blink as he processes it all. Heâs in a damn tipi. This is really about to become his life.
Shaking his head a little, he forces himself to focus on Mila. Sheâs his anchor, and she seems to sense that heâs reeling. She guides him to sit beside her on the bedding, holding his hands in hers. After a moment, he reaches up to tuck a curling strand of hair behind her ear.
âYou didnât get in too much trouble because of me, did you?â he asks.
She shakes her head. âNo. My father and uncle are very similar. Strong to anger, but it is quick to run out. At least with me.â
Dean thinks he understands. Short fuse, quick fizzle.
âThere is justâŠone thing,â Mila says. Her eyes fall away from his, like sheâs embarrassed. He squeezes her hands.
âWhat?â he asks, his brows furrowing. It gets her to look at him again, but she seems worried to tell him.
âTo convince my uncle to let you stay, I told them that weâŠâ she trails, trying to find the right words in English. âThat we are married.â
Deanâs brows raise high. His heart trips up faster. Okay, âoursâ makes a lot more sense now.
âI am sorry,â she says quietly. âI didnât want you hurtââ
âSweetheart,â Dean says, cupping her cheek. Even with the hammering of his heart, he grins. âIâm pretty sure thatâs where this was going anyway.â
In fact, this is a best-case scenario, as far as heâs concerned. He leans in to kiss her, and it doesnât take long at all for her to sigh in relief, melting against him.
âWeâre married, huh?â he asks. âNo ceremony? No white dress?â
âWe are bonded,â she replies, nodding as she meets every one of his kisses. âOr, we will be.â
She tugs him closer and revels in the feeling of his hands beginning to roam her body, sliding down her waist, her hips and thighs.
âGuess that means we have to seal the deal,â he grins. His lips drift away from hers to burn a familiar path across her cheek. He takes to nibbling her ear, making her flinch and laugh as it tickles.
âSeal-the-deal. What does that mean?â she asks.
Dean chuckles lowly in her ear. âOh, I think you know.â
He guides her onto her back, over the comfortable mess of furs. He wants to take his time exploring every inch of soft, tan skin, but he first sweeps her hair away from her eyes, the back of his hand brushing against her cheek. She smiles up at him softly.
âDo you regret?â she whispers, reaching up to touch his chin with two slender fingers. âDo you regret helping me?â
Dean considers her question. He knows heâll carry his family in his heart until the day he dies. His brother, his mother, the memory of his father. Benny and Cas, even Jack, and so many others.
Itâs already a heavy burden, but he had always been prepared to lose his life on the battlefield, in service of his country. At least this way, he gains a new life.Â
âNo. Never did,â Dean replies. âNot even once.â
He bows his head toward hers, and he proves it to her. His lips capture hers, fueled by passion and wanting. Milaâs hands slide over his shoulders and down his back. Maybe without her realizing it, she implores him to let go of the weight heaped on his shoulders.
When he begins to bunch up the hem of her dress, she sits up to help guide his hands. Her quickening breaths mesh with his as the first layer of clothing drops beside the bedding. His tattered shirt joins her dress, along with pants and shoes and boots, until all thatâs left is skin against warm, bare skin. He lays on his side right beside her and explores wherever she lets him begin. Â
âBeautiful,â Dean murmurs, as his lips follow the column of her neck, down between her breasts. Her breaths rise to meet him, especially when he begins to toy with a dark, pebbled nipple. Her fingers slip through his hair, and his name falls from her lips. He palms one breast while kissing and gently teasing the other, exploring sensitive flesh and grazing her sensitive fleshwith his teeth.
âNo manâs ever touched you?â he asks, despite knowing the answer.
She shakes her head, her fingers gripping his hair tighter as his lips and tongue move against her skin.
âNo,â Mila gasps a reply. Her hand slides down the back of his neck, and the more he teases her, her nails soon create faint red lines down his back, her thighs squeezing together. She feels a throbbing ache at the very center of her. Despite her inexperience with men, she knows what it means, and she knows what she wants.
Deanâs mouth drags away from her breast. He pulls back so he can meet her eyes. A smile curves his lips, and he takes one of her hands from his shoulders.Â
âHave you ever touched yourself?â he asks. He guides her hand down her body, brushing over a wet, sensitive nipple, down her stomach, and between her legs. This time, Mila nods in answer. She stares up at Dean with eyes like molten honey. He leans in to kiss her neck.
âShow me,â he says.
She shudders at the depths in his voice. It increases the flood of wetness she already feels, even before she slips two fingers between the folds of her sex. She gathers some of that slick and circles it over the source of her pleasure, the small nub above her entrance.
Dean takes his hardened length in his hand. While she writhes by her own hand, he drinks her in with his eyes. A soft groan falls from his lips as he pumps himself a few times, sliding a thumb across the weeping head of his cock.
He canât be a spectator for long though. He nips tantalizingly at her neck, creating a zing of added sensation across her skin. She whimpers, though she tries to stifle it, her knee bending further.
âItâs okay, sweetheart,â Dean says. âLet me hear you.â
He releases himself and replaces her hand with his own. He slips two long fingers inside her drenched entrance, earning a gasping moan from her. She latches onto his shoulders and buries her face into his neck. She whispers fervent things he doesnât understand, but it only spurs him on.
His thumb circles insistently over her clit as his fingers pulse inside her. Her hips buck a needy rhythm against his hand, until her thighs begin to shake, and her inner walls squeeze even tighter around his fingers.
âShit, thatâs it, baby,â he pants gruffly against her cheek. âLet go for me.â
Warmth snaps and floods from her throbbing core, and she cries out near his ear, her nails biting into his skin. Her release coats his fingers.
Mila drops her head back against the furs underneath her. Her chest rises and falls quickly while she tries to catch her breath, her eyes tightly shut. Dean surprises her with a soft kiss.
âMila,â he prods. He wants to see her eyes again, so pretty and wanton when she comes. He veers away from her lips to kiss her cheek, and then the other side of her neck. âLet me see you, sweetheart.â
She huffs a small laugh. Opening her eyes, she gestures to her bare body. âThis is not enough?â
Deanâs lips tug at a smile. He shakes his head. âAs a matter of fact, no.â
He shifts over her, finding his place between the cradle of her thighs. His elbows come to rest on either side of her head. She feels trapped by his body, even as she welcomes his weight and the feeling of his arousal, long and heavy and hard, trapped between their bodies. This man fills every corner of her world in this moment.
âIf Iâm your husband now, that means I get all of you,â he says with a grin. She gazes up at him, both in blushing amusement and affection.
âAll of me,â Mila repeats. She takes his face in her hands and brings him closer, until her lips are a whisper from his. âThen I want all of you.âÂ
Dean chuckles. âYou sure about that?â
She smiles in satisfaction, and her lips claim him this time. One kiss turns into many, each one mounting in passion and desire. Dean groans into her when she begins to touch him. Her hands are soft, but direct in their seeking; they caress his shoulders, run down his chest and stomach, and then, more tentatively explore the now painfully hard length of him pressing against her.
He makes a grateful sound of pleasure when her hand wraps around his cock, squeezing gently. His fingers bury themselves in her hair.
âI want all of you,â she says, this time a plea and a demand all at once as she strokes him.
Dean nods in agreement. Heâs come this far. He can do that for her too.
He spreads her thighs a bit wider and encourages her to adjust the angle of her hips for him. His hand glides down her plush thigh and gets a healthy grip. Then he slides his hand under hers and guides his cock through her folds, first just holding himself at her warm, wet entrance.
He manages to wait for a second, in order to meet her gaze. Sheâs already holding onto his arms tightly, like heâs become her anchor. Her thighs wrap around his hips and beckon him closer.
Slowly, he pushes inside. He takes care in how he works her open. She winces at the sting of his girth stretching her, but his fingers once again massage her clit, stroking her arousal back into a keening flame. He swallows her gasps and moans as he bottoms out inside her, fully sheathed. Tears prick at her eyes, but not from pain.
Milaâs dream flashes like a waking vision behind her eyes. Wings take flight, along with the gleam of a golden beak and a sharp eye.
She blinks, and the image disappears. Sheâs left with the man who has become hers, making love to her with every stroke of him deep inside her. She presses grateful kisses across his neck and shoulder, wherever she can reach while she clings to his strong arms.
The thick head of him brushes a sensitive place over and over, one that tightens the coil in her lower belly and makes her core tremble again with warmth, until her body convulses against him, pulsing in pleasure, gripping him tight from the inside. Milaâs fingers clench in his hair just as tightly as her release hits her in a powerful wave; even her voice becomes lost to it.
Gritting his teeth, Dean grips the soft flesh of her hip and chases his own end. The way her inner walls choke his cock, he has no choice but to come hot inside her, his spend mixing with her own release. A strangled shout tears from his throat.
He has to brace himself before he crushes her. With his forearms resting on either side of her head, he lowers his forehead against hers. Her legs slip from where theyâve been tightly molded to his hips, her feet meeting the floor. Eventually he slips out of her. He watches his seed drip out and create a mess on the dark furs. The sight of it satisfies something primal deep inside him.
Later heâll ask her about washing up (and about supper), but for now, he just turns onto his back beside her. She inches toward him, and he raises an arm so she can splay out against his side. They both lay there for a moment in the quiet, just catching their breath together. It marks the end of a long journey, and yet, the start of one too.
Mila turns to raise onto her elbow. She reaches over to wipe the sweat from his brow in a tender touch. Dean smiles up at her. He takes her hand and presses a kiss into her palm.
âI could get used to this,â he says.
Her eyes widen in surprise, but then she laughs softly. âYes.â
Her hand moves down to his chest, over his heart. She sobers as she considers her people, and how much trust has yet to be bridgedânot only her own father and uncle, but the entire tribe. When she led him through the village, they called him waĆĄĂÄu.
Fat-taker. Greedy White. Not one of us.
âIt will be hard for you here,â Mila says. She worries it will be too hard for Dean. Â
He just squeezes her hand, earning her attention through tumultuous thoughts.
âIâm not afraid of a little hard work,â Dean replies. His usual confident charm is infused in his smile, but she has a feeling heâs just trying to reassure her.
Sensing sheâs not convinced, Dean reaches up to hold her cheek, guiding her to look at him and not the floor.
âListen. I made my choice, and Iâm sticking it out, come hell or high water,â he says.
Milaâs brows knit together. âHell-or-high⊠What does that mean?â
Dean sits up on his elbow along with her. He takes her chin between his fingers and meets her gaze.
âIt means if you want me, youâve got me. The rest, weâll figure out as we go along,â he says.
A smile slowly lightens Milaâs face. She tilts her chin up to meet him with a kiss.
âI will be with you,â she says. Itâs a promise.
Dean smiles back.
âGood,â he says. âBecause thatâs just about all I need.â
AN:Â There we have it, friends. đ I really, truly hope you enjoyed this mini series! To be honest, I have more ideas for this little world (like how Dean might try to assimilate into this culture), but I'll leave it to you guys to let me know if that's something you'd be interested in reading.
Until then, I would love to know what you thought of this chapter!Â

Even if I haven't been very active lately, 9 years is still pretty significant- happy birthday to the blog!
So like Percy up there I'm gonna do so dome reflecting. This blog's where I've often done that for some reason, but here's the tl'dr for blog related stuff.
âą I would like to keep drawing stuff but feeling generally unsure in myself, and I'm wondering if all the years of fandom harrassment have caught up with me âą I have one big project in mind, I've been dipping my toe into what I'd need to do it. No spoilers but it was one of the first things I played around with this series, so do with that what you will âą If I can keep myself drawing, I want to use more of the original source material since I'm struggling with original ideas. So stuff like redraws, hOpEfULlY even animatics, just like what originally got me so into trains yknow? Because that's fun and sparks joy. And that always goes down a treat with you guys so bonus âąÂ As always I appreciate you guys not coming after me for being so inconsistent
The rest of this is me doing what Percy's doing in the drawing and reflecting, as there is indeed much 2 think about. It's also a little sad and venty so, there's your warning there.
.
Ok so obviously a busy year, we moved into our new house that we actually own, I spent most of the year planning our wedding, and then got married. Big stuff. Also! I came off antidepressants in the summer. I've been on them for...basically as long as this blog, 6 months after I started it I think. Which also means I'd been on antidepressants my entire adult life. Feels like a big deal and I guess I'm still adjusting.
Another big thing, but sad, is that my dog died about two weeks ago. If you follow me on twitter you'll have seen her but she did make an appearance here a few Halloweens ago
I got her when she was 13 and had her 8 years after that. So that's been difficult. Unrelated to that (probably), but I just feel...really mediocre. And before you point out the obvious, this has been present even before I came off antidepressants. But yeah just... mediocrity. In myself as a person, how I look, what I draw, my whole life really (barring my marriage thankfully). What have I achieved? I'm 26, I'm not working, I don't feel well, my art isn't good (I don't think so anyway- like yeah it's technically fine I guess but it's not, and has never been, very stand-out or impressive). And lately art doesn't bring me the same joy it once did, and I'm wondering if all the years of harrassment from this fandom (mostly the twitter side, tumblr's been pretty good to me) has finally caught up with me and put me off the whole thing. Or worse, that I just don't have as much of an interest in it anymore. I don't think I'll ever be like "ok yep I'm officially done with this blog" because I'm so stubborn but idk. I want to make things and be creative, I want to make more train art, but it doesn't feel the same. I don't know what's wrong. What do you listen to? What you want vs what you feel? I still enjoy train stuff, I love going to Awdry Ex every year. It's been like this for awhile. It's not even like I have a strong feeling of what I'd rather be doing as far as careers go. And even if I did, oh yeah I'm sure my two degrees in animation will be very relevant in another field (sarcasm). I feel adrift. My sails are open but there is just no wind. Planning my wedding gave me something to do and work on and just, feel useful but now that that's over I feel lost again. Losing my dog, who had become the center of my life because of how vulnerable she had become, hasn't helped.
On the more creative side of things, I also don't really know what to do with this blog's story either. The show's ended as far as most people are concerned, and I kiiinda wrote myself into a corner because once Thomas turns 18 he's going to leave for university, and that sets off this whole arc with James but basically the problem is it involves characters leaving and for some reason that feels like a no-no here. Don't get me started on the timeline lol. But Thomas works on a railway on Sodor, that's how it has to be...right? I guess I'm sort of at a crossroads of, ok do I want this to be close to the source material, and thus easily digestible to newcombers? Or do I want to make it more and more my thing and distanced from the source material? I doubt there's many new people coming since the series ended. And even then, there's a lot more humanization artists around now than when I started, so it's not like I'm filling a niche anymore. Just to be clear it's fine and also good that there's more humanization artists, variety is good, I just don't feel as "needed" anymore (which is 100% in my head and not an actual role that belongs to me or something). I started this blog when I was 17, so my interests and what I relate to have changed obviously. The character designs certainly have. It's never followed a super rigid story plan, but the core of it has always been the central cast doing things on Sodor. I however have always had a scene/project/animatic/whatEver in mind for when this 'series' would '''officially''' ''''end''''. But then what comes after that? I've always tried to run this blog like they are Real People that You interact with. But in real life there is no ending to the story, there's always more stuff to come. You get married, and it's wonderful, and then life goes on. The credits never roll. So maybe that's what I'm having trouble coping with...the progression of time. Ah, my old nemesis. I've always had trouble with letting go of things. There's nothing to say that I couldn't still draw stuff after the series "ends". I guess any story after Thomas leaves could be like... a sequel series or a spin off or something. Spin-off of a spin-off. Famous 8 All Grown Up. Famous 8 Qurter Life Crisis. Who knows. I certainly don't.
I've also been really into an original project unrelated to this but those don't get as much attention and while I'd like to do something with it one day, I don't feel very confident in being able to make that happen right now. But you know... as far my as art not being super spectacular goes... I think my individual talent has always been is my ideas, like the writing side of things. And then brought to life with my art, which normally isn't anything to write home about but is good enough to convey the idea and be not-awful to look at, lifts both of them beyond what they were individually. Maybe that's what I should focus on. Maybe that's wishful thinking.
So....idk. Idk what I'm doing but I'm trying to be gentle on myself and just let myself continue to drift, to heal from this heavy loss, and then in the New Year I'll try and pick myself up. Then there will be no more big once-in-a-lifetime events coming up, no more just-moved-into-a-house-and-oh-no-there's-a-bunch-of-things-that-need-attention-NOW scenarios, and no more big holidays for awhile. I guess we'll see.
If you read all of this I am so sorry but also thank you for reading my ramblings. And thank you for being around, whether that's been for a few months or for several years, but especially if it's been several years

In the Still of the Night, ch 3
Zach Wellison x female reader Co-written with @absurdthirst
Grown up and looking to the future, Zach Wellison and bunkmate Shane Morrissey are working for a new cruise line that offers its guests a vintage Vegas experience on the Mediterranean. The romantic atmosphere is rubbing off on many of the crew members, and Zach finds himself to be no exception when he meets the beautiful lead singer of Shane's band.
But being wrapped in the seductive arms of an atmospheric cruise is a far cry from real life. How will their relationship fare on dry land? They can't know unless they try.
Rating:Â E for Explicit 18+ Word Count:Â 8.8k Warnings:Â *Blanket warnings for this story include: Cursing, alcohol, food, cooking, eating, discussion of clothing/costumes. Mentions of prison time served, mentions of past homelessness.* Flirting, still a little awkwardness, blindfold, sensory deprivation, foreplay, oral sex (female receiving). Summary:Â Your day out with Zach gets more intense at every turn. Notes:Â Hopefully you're all enjoying the prolonged date as much as we -- and they -- are! Ch 1 ~ Ch 2
It isn't hard for anyone who sees you during the rest of the day to spot the dreamy couple out on a date. The older woman who shows you to your table at the restaurant Zach picked out for dinner gives you a wink in agreement that he's an absolute cutie pie and comes back a few minutes later with two glasses of wine and a candle for your table despite none of the others having one set out.
He had chosen a restaurant that was more local than tourist and had been thrilled when there was no formal dress code. Eager to sit down with you after so much walking and talk about more of anything and everything that has been the topics of the day. âSo how did you start out singing?â He asks curiously.
âMy elementary school had a chorus.â It might be the first time in hours you havenât been holding hands, but youâre still smiling as you sit side by side with your wine watching the sun set. âI stuck with it because I was a kid and it was fun, then the dance lessons got added, and then as I got older I realized that I also liked theater. It became a combination.â
âSo you were a theatre kid.â He nods in understanding. He hadnât been, but he had been friends with some and understood the passion of performing even if he didnât have it.
âThatâs how I ended up in New York.â You tell him, expression twisting into something like regret. âJust another small town kid convinced they could be the next Broadway star. Obviously that didnât happen.â
âBut you tried.â He reminds you, leaning against your shoulder and wishing he could take away the sadness. âSome people never try.â
âI go between thinking that maybe I should have tried harder, and wondering why I ever bothered at all.â With that offer of support there, you lean against his shoulder in turn and shrug gently. âIt is what it is, I guess. ButâŠhow did you start cooking?â
Zach sighs softly, knowing that it would eventually come up. âActually, I just started cooking a few years ago.â He admits.
âYou did?â That surprises you enough to turn your head and look at him more fully. âSo itâs just at natural talent, then?â
âI guess?â He shrugs slightly. âI got a job working in a kitchen. Saved my life.â He tells you. âThrew myself into it and experimented as much as I could and read everything I could get my hands on.â
âSo you stumbled into your calling.â There is something else there, something he doesnât want to tell you, so you donât push. âThatâs wonderful, though. Some people never find what theyâre meant to do in their whole lives.â
âIt helps with my anxiety.â He admits with a self deprecating grin. âSo I decided that it was the best thing for me. One day Iâd like to have a restaurant. One that I can plan every detail, down to free meals for the homeless.â
âI love that.â Without hesitation, the idea is not only a kind one but one you can tell means a great deal to him. âSome places have a system where you can pay for meals for others in advance, too. System like that can be used to pay for extra supplies so no one ever has to be turned away.â
âThat would be amazing.â Heâs had benefited from that kind of system before, but not often. And he knows how uplifting a good, hot meal can be when you are down.
"You can make it happen." Something in your gut tells you that he can and he will, and even though you have no stake in it, you can't help but feel proud of him for that.
âIâm hoping.â He flashes you a grateful grin. Even your confidence in him sounds so sure when heâs always wondered if he can succeed. âThe club on the ship has given me so many ideas.â
"I've been eating your ideas," you remind him with a grin. "And they're fantastic. You're really good, Zach. Any place would be lucky to have you and any team would be lucky to have you lead them."
âWhat about you?â He asks. âThis has to be a stepping stone for you. Iâve already heard from the crew that you might have some head hunters after you.â One of the passengers was apparently connected in the music industry and had been in to the club several nights.
"If I do, that's news to me." Whatever murmurings Zach has heard, you haven't. But you would be lying if you claimed not to be curious. "I don't know, honestly. I think I would rather be a headliner in a little club than wave a rose in a Broadway chorus for the rest of my life. But the chances of either are relatively slim." You take a sip of your wine and offer him a smile, shrugging one shoulder. "In my dreams I'm getting top billing in the biggest musicals and you're running the most popular restaurant in the country. Ultimate New York City power couple."
âThat sounds amazing.â Zach chuckles. âActually, running this style club, I think it would work in New York.â He tells you. âA dinner club.â
"I know it's something that you see in retirement communities in Florida, but I have always loved dinner theater." His laugh is sweet and deep and rolls through you like a wave of joy. "This club is such a great gig for people like us."
âYes it is, but imagineâŠ.â He sighs softly. âCreating a headliner show like you would see in Vegas, right in New York and pairing it with a daily changing menu like we do here.â
"New York would love a show like that." It sounds so doable when he says it. Like a dream you could reach for and pluck out of the sky.
âIt would be sold out.â He agrees, flashing a hopeful smile. âOne day, maybe if I had the right singer to run the show side of things.â
"I guess you're going to have to get to know some singers then, aren't you?" His bright smile is reflected right back at him, teasing as always but it's because part of you can't dare to dream this big for yourself. Only for him.
âI will.â He nods and shrugs. âMaybe hold auditions or something. Singing for your supper?â
"That's what most of us do." You agree, not wanting your smile to flicker at all even if the memories sting. "Sometimes literally."
Zach catches the change, the dimming of the light in your eyes and he knows that heâs touched on a sensitive topic for you. âI get it.â He promises quietly. âI think I gravitated towards cooking because I knew if I was making food for others, I would not have that gnawing ache of hunger ever again.â He licks his lips. âFood insecurity, the therapist called it.â
Your heart sinks, chest tightening, and you nod as you slip your hand back into his. "I wish I was more surprised to find out that more than a few of us have been there. But a job like ours...with guaranteed housing and meals and a way to save money for months at a time? It makes sense that it would attract people who have had it hard."
Of course you would be understanding. His eyes close as he nods, feeling a little choked up by the compassion in your voice and the understanding in your touch. âAbsolutely. And I hate that youâve had a moments bad luck.â He murmurs. âYou deserve so much.â
"So do you." You squeeze his hand gently. "Bad luck doesn't make us bad people."
âNot at all.â His hand slips from yours and his arm wraps around your shoulders protectively. âNow - before we start choking up, what do you want to try?â He wants this date to be nothing but a lovely moment for you and he tries to steer the conversation to more positive thoughts.
Without saying another word about it, you turn your head to kiss his cheek and refocus on the menu in his hands. They have enough tourists in town that the menu from this restaurant has one-sentence item descriptions in English that simply tell non-Greek speakers the main ingredients of each dish. A quick glance around you shows you that everything here seems to be served family style, and you settle in Zach's side again happily.
"How does this sound?" You ask, pointing out the special. Gamopilafo. The menu says, with ArnĂĄki Stamnagathi. "Greek risotto with lamb and vegetables?"
âThat sounds amazing.â Zach groans happily and nods. âDo you want to get that and something else?â He doesnât want you to share with him if you are just trying to make the bill cheaper, he can afford paying for dinner.
"It looks like it's family style? Maybe we can get another side dish to go with it so we can try more?" You shrug slightly, knowing that food was just a topic of some stress for both of you. "Sharing sounds nice. But not if you don't want to."
âIâm not opposed to sharing at all.â He promises, leaning in and nudging his nose to yours. âIâll share anything with you.â
"Promises, promises." It's too tempting to have him close and not indulge in another kiss, but you keep it short and chaste in case Zach isn't too into public displays of affection. The half dozen or so kisses that you have shared today have been relatively private so you want to respect that for him.
Zach smiles, beams really. âWhat else do you want, baby?â The term of endearment slips out, but he doesnât try to take it back or apologize. Feeling like itâs just the natural next step of this amazing day.
While the honest answer is him, that isn't what he's asking so you pull yourself out of the dirty thoughts you've been having on and off all damn day and look back down at the menu. In the top section there is something that lists cheese, fruit, bread, and flavored local olive oil, so you point that out. "Cretan charcuterie plate to start?"
âI think thatâs a good idea.â Zach agrees and smiles at you. âWe can see if we can come up with our own ideas for a board.â
"We'll have enough menu ideas for three new restaurants if we let our imaginations wander." Which is not a bad thing at all, but it does have both of you grinning when the waitress comes over to take your order.
Zach orders for the both of you, checking in with his eyes to make sure that itâs everything you want and hands the menu over with a pleasant smile for the waitress. Enjoying the knowing glances she shoots between the two of you. âI think that she thinks we are newlyweds or something.â He confesses quietly when she walks away. âWhat do you think?â
âMaybe.â Donât be so you, you remind yourself for the hundredth time in your head. âI donât know how many people come around here being cuddly on a fantastic day-long first date.â
âIt has been fantastic, hasnât it?â He muses, reminding himself that neither one of you has walked away or even been upset today. Not really.
âI think so.â There are clearly more things to talk about in your future, but today has left you optimistic that that future could exist. âIâm glad you do, too.â
âSo, whatâs your favorite type of wine?â He asks. âWith charcuterie? Are you a white wine or sangria girl?â
âIâm a whatever wine you serve me kind of girl,â you tell him with an amused laugh. âBut I do love sangria. There are very few things that arenât made better with a glass of sangria or a margarita.â
âA margarita; huh?â He smirks. âSalt on the rim or sugar?â
âDepends on the flavor.â After all, your palate isnât nonexistent, itâs just uneducated. âBut usually salt.â
âA watermelon margarita is my favorite.â He admits. âSalt and sugar on the rim.â
âSalt and sugar?â That has you raising an eyebrow. âColor me intrigued.â
âItâs delicious.â He chuckles. âGoes with a hamburger or ribs. Drinks just like water.â
âThat sounds incredible.â It sounds absolutely mouthwatering, actually, and you crack a grin. âMaybe Iâm just really hungry.â
âNext crew party why donât we do sliders and margaritas?â He offers. âI think youâd love it.â
âIt sounds amazing.â You can agree to that without hesitation. âBut I would also eat an old sneaker if it came out of your kitchen, so just know Iâm always here for your food.â
âSo boil shoe leather.â He pretends to make a note and laughs when you shove him playfully.
âYou boil shoe leather and Iâll sing scales off key. Our worst work night ever.â
Zach throws his head back and laughs. The deep, belly laugh of a man who is completely convinced that it possible could happen and finds it up-roaringly funny. âYouâre perfect.â
âYouâre perfect.â He doesnât need to know that a musical lyric sprung to mind instantly. He doesnât need to know that youâve been thinking it for an hour or more now. But you do hope he knows that the absolute affection shining in your eyes is honest and real.
He hums, not exactly able to take a compliment as well as he can give one. Instead he clinks his wine glass against yours. âTo being perfect together.â He offers with a smile.
Neither of you take compliments well, you note with a smile, but drink deeply from your glass and enjoy a private smile that he unknowingly completed the thought of the song lyric in your head. âI know youâre supposed to wait until the end of the date to say it,â you set down your glass, thank the waitress when she brings over the first course, and restart your thought after a few seconds. âBut I really think we should do this again.â
Zachâs heart leaps at your comment, happy that you have said that. âWell, of course we should.â He agrees, winking at you as he starts to dip a crusty piece of bread into the seasoned olive oil. âBut I was thinking maybe we spend a little more time together on the ship when we can?â
"We could always skip the crew parties now and then to have time to ourselves." Following suit, you dive into the cheese board along with him. The cured olives and soft cheese are calling your name. "I wouldn't mind that at all."
âI mainly go to the crew parties to see you.â Zach confesses with a shy smile, offering you the dipped bread after heâs spread a bit of goatâs cheese on top of it.
"Iâ" Your eyes drop, your whole face heats, and you clear your throat before offering him an olive that you have stuffed with a pinch of soft sheep's milk cheese. "I go to the crew parties to see you."
Zach snorts and shakes his head. âWe are pathetic.â He teases. âMooning over each other and not even aware of it until Shane makes you take me a drink.â
"He tried to tell me," you admit after trying the bite that Zach made for you. Like everything else he's ever fed you, it's perfect. "I just...didn't really think I had a shot."
âHe would always talk about you.â He huffs. âMaking that crush I was suffering under nearly unbearable.â He smirks. âI guess he was hoping to push me into making a move.â
âAnd when you didnât, he pushed me instead.â Which is a very Shane thing to do, really. Heâs always been a little bit too cocky for his own good. âHeâs like my big brother. So it makes perfect sense that he would meddle endlessly.â
âHe basically adopted me once we became roommates.â Zach agrees. âHeâs a good guy with a surprisingly big heart.â
âIt took him a while to get there,â you acknowledge, not quite knowing how much of Shaneâs story he had shared with Zach. âBut now that he has? Heâll be damned if he doesnât help everyone that he can.â
âYeah.â Zach nods. âFrom what heâs told me, heâs completely different than when he was first sent away.â
âHe showed me a picture once. Oh how he dresses and everything back then.â Just keeping the topic about appearance is lighthearted. That way you donât dip too far into past seriousness. âEven if that was the only thing that changed, he really is a completely different guy now.â
âJet black hair.â Zach snorts, shaking his head. âDude has amazing hair now. Iâm a little jealous of it.â Shane still has earrings, but heâs no longer sporting the goth edge he had back in his younger years.
âDo you ever think about growing yours out?â Zach still has short-trimmed hair that is probably a cinch to take care of, but he might look great with it longer.
âItâs been a long time since Iâve worn it long.â He admits, rubbing his hand up the back of his head. âSince high school.â He snorts. âBut Iâve not given it a lot of thought, honestly. Why? You think it would look good longer?â He asks, curious about your preferences. Everyone has them, itâs like preferring clean shaven over a beard.
âI caught myself wondering once if your hair was curly when it grows out,â you admit, clearing your throat a little from being flustered. Admitting that youâve wondered and daydreamed about him is a big step to your mind.
âYeah?â A slow, pleased grin starts to stretch across his face as he turns back towards you again. âDaydreaming about running your fingers through my hair?â
âMaybe.â The huff in your voice is pure embarrassment, though youâre glad that he seems to like the idea rather than being weirded out by it.
âThen I have to confess somethingâŠâ he drops his voice down to a whisper like itâs a secret. âI really love when the hairdresser runs her fingers through my hair when cutting it.â
It feels like a far more visceral tease than youâve been giving him, and you can practically feel how soft his shirt hair is when your eyes flick up to it. âNoted,â you manage to huff out a second later, banishing the mental image of Zach beneath you as you card your fingers through growing curls.
He smirks and winks at you when you manage to look at him again, finding it incredibly empowering to know that you are on the same level as he is. Both of you wanting so much, but being too shy to reach for it. Someone will have to make a move, but right now, heâs enjoying the flirting and bantering.
Neither of you seem to care much that it takes longer to make bites out of your appetizer if you hold hands, enjoying the small show of intimacy more than anything else. You're loathe to give up that connection now that you have it.
Zach enjoys sharing with you. Often making bites for you to try, and he smiles every time you groan in pleasure.
âJust because I have no idea how to cook anything doesnât mean I donât enjoy it,â you insist, and youâre laughing together when your waitress brings out your shared entree. The large and shallow bowl is obviously meant to be shared but is beautifully arranged â vegetables bringing color with the creamy risotto-like grains and tantalizingly seared and roasted lamb.
âMany blessings.â She is smiling at both of you as she puts the food down between you. âHappy marriage to young love.â
âThank you.â Zach doesnât correct her, beaming instead and bringing up your hand and kissing the back of it. If they believe that you are newlyweds, who are you to disclaim it?
Seeing him go with the assumption instead of correcting the woman makes your heart swell. There is something deeply soft and intimate about the gesture and youâre sure you must look so deeply entranced by your date that protesting wouldnât do any good anyway.
âSoulmates?â The older woman asks, looking at the two of you with the pride of a grandmother.
Zach bites his lip, unsure of how to answer that, so he just wings it. âWhat do you think?â He asks, reaching out and caressing your cheek. âSheâs perfect, isnât she?â
"Very." The woman agrees, and with another proud smile she clasps both of your shoulders and heads off again to the kitchen with the purpose and speed of someone off to share vital gossip.
Zach smiles at you. âWell, I guess that makes us official.â He hums. âWhat do you think?â He asks, lifting a brow. âWant to be my girlfriend? Or should we jump straight to soulmate and wife?â He asks. âWeâve already gotten approval here.â
"It might be a little dramatic to show back up to the ship married." And yet you're grinning. You're absolutely beaming at him in a way that can't possibly be contained and for the first time today you don't want it to be. "But I love the sound of girlfriend."
âIâm sure we wouldnât have been the first couple to have done that.â He doesnât take offense to you ignoring the remark about soulmates. Heâs seen you without sleeves enough to know that you donât have his tattoo. You canât be his soulmate, but he is drawn to you like heâs never been to another woman. âBut girlfriend sounds perfect to me too.â
"I'm not one of those people that swears soulmates are the only possible relationship," you explain, as the two of you rearrange your little table to share your entree comfortably. The waitress had also brought you fresh drinks so the little table is loaded down with tantalizing options. "My parents aren't soulmates and they've been happily married for almost forty years. It's a great thing, but I always thought choosing your person yourself was more important than anything else."
âInteresting.â Zach is impressed and he nods. âI know that soulmates arenât everything, but my parents were.â He tells you, smiling a little sadly. âThey were probably the best relationship Iâve ever seen.â
"We both had good role models for healthy relationships. That's far more rare than it should be, I think." You note the past tense in his words but don't push, instead watching as he carefully serves the meal onto the two smaller plates you were given.
The lamb smells amazing and Zach is already drooling, imagining what he could make. âAre you ready to give me ideas?â He teases as he looks up from finishing plating.
"Dinner ideas?" You raise an eyebrow at him and pick up your fork, feeling bold with the help of the waitress who broke the ice and managed to make you Zach's girlfriend with a touch of cute teasing. "Or dirty ideas?"
âI accept all ideas.â Zach promises, his voice dipping down slightly, turning sensual.
"Fuck." Even just a quiet groan of frustration from you is enough to let him know exactly where you're at. Every single time he kisses you, you're convinced that you're going to soak through your shorts, and you no longer care if he knows it or not.
âIâve been thinking about something.â Zach starts, forking up a bite of the risotto and trying it with a groan of approval.
"Tell me." There have been a few more serious topics touched on today without delving too deep, but you have faith that whatever it is that's on his mind won't be bad.
âWe donât have to be back on the ship until tomorrow morning.â The club is closed for the night while in port since the majority of the passengers are on shore. âWhat do you think about not going back tonight?â
"Like...find a little hotel?" Your fork is halfway to your mouth when you meet his eyes, seeing that there is the same spark of desire there as in your own. "That would certainly be more comfortable than using one of our bunks after we kick our roommate out," you agree, letting a grin crawl across your face.
âWe donât have to.â He stresses, not wanting you to feel like he expects to spend the night with you.
"I know." But you shrug with just a touch of guilt. "And if you want to wait that's totally fine. But...I definitely want to."
âI want to.â He is quick to reassure you of that. âI really want to. I justââ he bandied about for the right words. âDidnât want to come off as pushy.â
"Pushy is normally my problem." you promise him. "The other part of Shane's whole 'be less you' advice was not rolling up to our first date and telling you we would make beautiful children." It's still of a hell of a way to come on strong so you laugh it off, but it's true all the same. "You've been anything but pushy, baby."
âYou would have beautiful babies with Shrek.â He snorts, shaking his head. âMy genes would have nothing to do with it.â
"Don't count yourself out." The grin on your face slides sideways and the two of you dig into your dinner in earnest. "Those curls of yours on a little baby? Cuties."
He blushes slightly, imagining how a baby with you would look. Itâs a fantasy that he never even imagined being able to consider just a few years ago. âOnly because of you. And most babies are cuties anyway.â
âThey are.â Thatâs just a fact as far as youâre concerned. The two of you continue to eat for another minute or so before your mind catches up with all the possible consequences of that topic coming up and you almost stutter as you reach for your wine glass. âIâmâIâm on birth control, though,â you point out. Like he might think youâre trying to baby trap him on the first date just because you think babies are cute. âThatâsâŠlike I want kids eventually but Iâm not crazy about it.â
This is happening. Zach swallows a bite of the deliciously fragrant and juicy lamb so he doesnât choke. âGood. I mean, I would still want to wear a- birth control shouldnât just be on you.â He tells you. âIâm clean, but I- itâs always good to- you know, uh, be safe.â
âIâm clean too, and if you feel more comfortable with a condom thatâs totally fine, I justââ Who knows if more wine is actually a good idea at this point but you take about gulp out of nerves. âI didnât want you to think I had any motivation forâŠyou knowâŠtonight, other than really liking you.â
He has to laugh at that, reaching for your hand and winking at you. âYouâre focusing on your career. I donât think that your grand plan is to be knocked up by the chef of the club you headline your first contract out.â He promises.
âWell when you say it like that it sounds silly.â And yet? A part of you is certain, beyond any doubt whatsoever, that if it happened you could be such a happy little family.
He smirks slightly and reaches over to brush off a tiny bit of sauce on the edge of your mouth. âSo we both know where we stand.â He hums. âLetâs just relax and enjoy where our night takes us.â
******
With the sun set and your meal finished, an intimacy has settled over you and Zach as you sip your coffee together and listen to the busy streets of Knossos bustle with tourists and nightlife. Normally you would be part of that. You would be out with friends or searching out a feeling to get lost in â but today has been so thorough in proving that you can simply get lost in Zach that you donât want to stray. Everything you could possibly want for your night is right here next to you. And itâs a type of calming feeling that you donât know youâve ever felt with another person before.
âThat was probably the best meal Iâve ever eaten.â Zach rubs his stomach appreciatively and looks over at you. âLamb on the menu for the club?â
âAbso-fucking-lutely.â Youâll eat anything he cooks anyway. But having it be a special memory between the two of you? Thatâs worth bragging about. âWith those whipped carrots you made yesterday? Oh my god.â
âYou liked those?â He grins, loving feedback as much as the next person and if it comes from you it makes it even sweeter. âIâve been thinking about making it a soufflĂ© and putting a topping on it. Similar to a sweet potato soufflĂ©? What do you think? Too much?â
âI donât know,â you admit with a grin spreading across your face. âIâve never had a soufflĂ© before.â
âYouâve never had a sweet potato casserole?â His eyes widen. âYouâre shitting me?â
You shrug weakly, yet canât help but laugh at how strong his reaction is. âMy dad hates sweet potatoes,â you explain between giggles. âWe basically ate like toddlers in my house forever, because he only liked four or five foods.â
âWow.â He chuckles. âSo I know what Iâm making you tomorrow.â He grins. âRoasted chicken with sweet potato soufflĂ©, creamed spinach and a fresh cranberry compote.â
âWe just ate.â Sure, your tone is complaining, but the teasing is clear and sparkling in your eyes. âWhy do you have to make me hungry all over again?â
Laughing, he leans over slightly to pull his wallet out to pay. Having cash is something of a safety net to him, although heâs proud of the shiny credit card with a low limit as he builds his credit back up. Offers have started coming for pre-approval of credit limits, but heâs resisted getting one so far. He pays this card off every month like clockwork. âIâll let you sleep it off first.â He promises.
A different woman comes out with your check and a small folded bag. She smiles when she sees Zach ready to pay, and hands you the bag. âCongratulations,â she explains in a thick but clear accent. âFrom my grandparents. Theyâre very flattered you chose their restaurant for your honeymoon.â
Zach immediately feels guilty. âNoâ nothing is necessary.â He promises, shaking his head. âWe are happy to be here. The food was amazing.â
"It's just a few cookies," she promises, apparently charmed by the display of manners. "And we're always glad to have kind guests."
âEveryone here has been wonderful.â Zach smiles as he hands over his card. âNow we just need to find a hotel with people as wonderful.â
"You don't have a place to stay already?" The bill is easily and silently settled with the exchange of a few bills between them and the woman points down the beach to a three-story white building on the edge of the beach. "Dite is a beautiful hotel. Small. But very nice. And you will see the perfect sunrise in your room."
âWhat do you think, sweetheart?â He asks, turning towards you. âI think it sounds just about perfect, if they have a room available.â
âSmall sounds perfect.â In fact, after the bustle of the ship, it sounds like a small relief. âThank you for the suggestion.â
âI will call for you.â She offers. âFamily.â
âThat would be wonderful.â You look to Zach for confirmation. âThe hotel is my treat. I promise.â
He huffs, frowning slightly at the notion of you paying and there is a grin on the womanâs face as she nods in approval. âI will go call right now and let them know you are coming.â She beams before scampering off.
âItâs okay.â Sensing a bit of hurt pride that you dismiss as typically male, you lean over and kiss Zachâs cheek. âYou can buy our breakfast.â
He canât tell you that itâs because he somehow still looks at someone paying for something â even if it benefits them â as a handout. That is way too deep for this date and probably means he needs to schedule a visit with the VA therapist next time heâs in New York. âSounds good, sweetheart.â He hums.
It only takes a few minutes for the younger waitress to return, and when she does she is smiling broadly. To Zach she hands a slip with the name and address of the hotel. âTheyâre getting your room ready now,â she tells you both gladly.
âThank you.â He smiles. âFor everything.â
âOur pleasure.â She assures him, and trots off again after saying good night.
He turns towards you and gives you a searching look. âAre you ready?â
"Absolutely." Considering you can see the hotel from here, you don't mind walking. A stroll through the streets of the ancient city, hand in hand with your newly minted boyfriend? It sounds perfect to you.
Zach scoots out of the seat and holds out his hand to you. âThen letâs walk off this amazing dinner.â
The roads and the beach stretch on longer than you anticipate but the walk is welcome. You're most quiet, enjoying each other's company without the need to fill the air with idle conversation. You take in the city around you and the overwhelming number of tourists. The hustle and the bustle is beautiful, but something about the fact that you can be comfortable in the quiet with Zach brings and unexpected extra layer of intimacy to the night.
Walking hand in hand is intimate, serene. He doesnât feel the need to make excuses or fill the silence, he just enjoys the way the smiles seem to be just for you as a couple, coming from others who pass you on the streets.
The hotel is clean and bright, and the extended family of the folks who owned the restaurant are as sweet as can be when you check in. Theyâve put you in a top floor room facing the ocean and promise you itâs their best, and you and Zach take the stairs up after thanking them once more.
âI feel bad.â Zach muses. âThey think we are on our honeymoon.â
âFirst dates can be just as special as honeymoons, right?â You offer as you make your way down the hall to your room. âI checked their rates online and it was the same as what we paid. So theyâre not giving us big discounts or anything. If they had, I would have said something.â
âGood.â He feels better about that and his stomach twists in nervous anticipation. You both had stopped in a little shop where he had purchased a small box of condoms. They feel heavy in his pocket.
âHey.â The leaden heaviness sits between you as you unlock the door to your room and push it open. Before you even make a move to step inside, you settle your hand on Zachâs arm and offer him a soft, reassuring smile. âJust because we want to doesnât mean we have to tonight, okay? We can decide to just hang out and cuddle and sleep beside each other and it will still be perfect.â
âAre you having second thoughts?â He asks seriously, trying not to look disappointed, because he doesnât want that to pressure you.
âNot at all.â Youâre quick to assure him of that, pushing open the door and stepping inside. âYou just seemâŠnervous? I donât know, maybe Iâm wrong.â
âAfraid of disappointing you.â He admits with a small huff of amusement at himself as he flashes you a grin. âItâs been a while for me.â
"Then I'm flattered you would choose me to be the one to break that dry spell with." It really is a vote of confidence from him, and you won't take that for granted. Despite the fact that you don't understand how in the hell anyone has ever let him go, you're glad to be the person that is here and ready to see all of the potential he has as a partner.
âI would be fucking crazy not to.â Zach snorts, shaking his head. âBaby you are gorgeous and kind, and everything I donât deserve.â
"Hey now." You shake your head as you shut the door behind the two of you, flipping the lock and feeling the shiver of anticipation roll through you. But still, hearing him put himself down is the last thing you're comfortable with and when you turn back to Zach you slide your hands up his arms gently. "I wouldn't let somebody else talk about you like that, what makes you think you get to?"
âHabit.â He admits, biting his lip and reaching for your waist to draw you closer. âIâm working on it.â
"I'm here to remind you how incredible you are anytime you need." A strong support system means everything, you learned that the hard way. And you're more than happy to be that for Zach.
âThanks.â Thereâs a bit gratefulness and quite a bit of amazement in his eyes as he looks at you. âYou are absolutely amazing, you know that?â He asks. âYou take my breath away.â
Your hands creep up his arms, sliding around his neck so your fingers can sink into his short, soft hair. "I'd be happy to do that for you literally, if you'd like."
âHow would you do that?â He has a pretty good idea, but he wants to hear what you have in mind.
The hum that leaves your lips as you press your body against his is full of promise. "I'd start at the top and work my way down, of course," you tell him, bringing Zach down to meet your lips for a searing kiss.
He canât help but groan, a grown man melting against you, but heâs already weak in the knees from the passion in just this one kiss. The sense of complete rightness that washes over him as his own arms band around you tighter and he starts to give back to you.
None of the kisses you had shared yet today had been allowed to be this deep. You were in public. You were sharing space with other people. And this is so intensely intimate. It would have felt wrong just to let other people see your naked heart out there on your sleeve. But when it is just the two of you locked safely away in the privacy of a hotel room? You would be a puddle at his feet if it werenât for the uncanny strength of him holding you tight against his chest.
Itâs not hard for his body to respond instantly. Heâs already lived most of the day in a state of arousal just being around you. But with the length of your body pressed against his and your tongue coaxing his further into your mouth? He is rock hard and aching. Groaning slightly as he turns both of you towards where the bed should be based on the split second examination of the room earlier.
And just like that you feel ignited. The press of his body against yours as he steers you blindly through around the room is an errant spark that seems to catch on every inch of you. With one hand your fingers card and tug in his hair, nails grazing over his scalp. With the other you pull his shoulders to keep him impossibly close â feeling like youâll forget to breathe if you stop sharing gasps with him between kisses.
You taste like sweet wine and cream. A perfect combination when mixed with something that is justâŠyou. He canât describe it, but itâs warm and earthy.
The backs of your legs bump against the bed frame, almost toppling you over and making you hang onto Zach all the more tightly, giggling into the kiss. âOops,â You canât help but laugh at how deeply uncoordinated it was, even as out of breath as you are. âWeak knees arenât very stable, apparently.â
âThen we should lay down.â Zach suggests, grinning against your lips and starting to crouch down.
It doesnât exactly take convincing. Not when every single time heâs kissed you today has turned you a soaking wet, needy mess. The fact that you finally get to do something about it is exhilarating and relieving all at once. âHell yes,â you agree, nearly hauling him into the bed with you when you try to kiss him and move at the same time.
He laughs when you both nearly topple over, flopping down on your sides in a move that is not nearly as graceful as he had planned in his mind. âEager?â He asks. Sliding his hand down your side to your ass.
âOh, absolutely.â You smirk, but shift your leg ever so slightly so your thigh presses against the front of his shorts. âJust as much as you are.â
âBaby, have you looked in the mirror?â Zach groans, twitching under the pressure. âYouâre a complete knockout and fucking sweet as pie.â
âAs long as you like what you see, the mirror doesnât matter.â What you see and what he sees looking at you will never be quite the same, so as long as he likes the version of you that he sees, youâre fine with it.
Zach doesnât say anything else, he just slowly leans in and presses his lips to yours softly.
Itâs such a sweet, gentle gesture that you melt deeper into the mattress. For that one moment there are no thoughts at all left in your head. Itâs just Zach and the possibilities.
He follows you, body half covering yours as he lets the kiss deepen slightly. Not too much, but he squeezes your ass gently as he grinds into you.
The roll of his hips earns him a moan, and he swallows it up eagerly so you give him another and hitch one leg up to let him get closer.
He presses deeper into you, slotting his hips between yours as you open up and he gasps into your mouth when his hard cock presses against the heat of your core.
The heat in your belly flares hotter, wicking all the way Down your limbs, and you whimper again because you have no prayer of a coherent sentence or even word in that moment. Thereâs horny and eager then thereâs whatever the hell you are as you grind your hips against his to beg for more.
Itâs juvenile, but grinding against you over clothes while he kisses you is the height of eroticism right now. He groans into your mouth before breaking away, wanting to taste every inch of your skin.
He trails kisses along your jaw and throat, making your back arch and stealing your breath all over again. While he begins to travel south you tug at his shirt, trying to tear the damn thing off while your whole body aches for him.
Zach smiles against your skin, cutting his eyes up at you playfully. âYouâre too impatientâ he teases, pulling away. âThink Iâll blindfold you.â
You pout instantly, but the idea is intriguing enough that you raise an eyebrow at him. âDo I get to see you eventually?â
âEventually.â He smirks, loving that you are going along with his little idea. âThat way you can accurately judge how good I am.â
âI canât judge your skills with my eyes open?â Delighted to have found him not so very vanilla after all, you let the hand you still have in his hair tug in his curls and grin when he moans.
âYou might be overwhelmed by my good looks.â He chuckles and shakes his head. One of the things that made him suggest this is his tattoo. He didnât want to have a ton of questions about it right now. This wasnât the time for remembering the past, but enjoying the present.
âIs this a âhands offâ situation, too? Or can I at least still touch you?â There are plenty of things youâre willing to try out that you already know you enjoy that people might consider out of the ordinary, but the first time with a new partner you want to feel them in every way.
âYou can touch me.â He promises. âIâm just feeling a little shy right now.â He jokes playfully, winking at you. âDonât want you to get too scared.â
âYou have nothing you need to be shy about, but I fully respect having a few hang ups. Iâve got plenty, too.â Reluctantly as you are to take your hands off of him, you reach for your belt instead â or rather, the long sash of fabric that you tied through your belt loops today because you thought it looked a little cuter than a standard belt. âUse this.â
âAre you sure?â He takes the fabric from your hands and holds it up to his eyes playfully.
âI trust you.â You trust him somehow inherently. As though it were as simple as trusting yourself. In a way that sticks in your chest and warms through you like hot cocoa in winter.
He watches you for a moment after pulling the scarf down from his face, âOkay.â He agrees. âI just want this to be something we never forget.â
âI can already guarantee I will never forget any part of today,â you promise him, shivering slightly with anticipation as he settles your former belt gently over your eyes.
He ties it firmly, but not too tight. If you need it off, all you need to do is slip it up your forehead or pull it down. The point of this is to be fun, to explore without judgement and he canât do that if you are uncomfortable. âHopefully thatâs a good thing and it doesnât go into your âworst datesâ catalog.â He jokes before he slides his hands down to the edge of your shirt to push it up your stomach and drop a kiss right above your belly button.
With every small touch now heightened, your skin tingles with the scrap of his calloused fingers and press of the feather-light kiss. âI donât fuck on the first date unless itâs a really fucking good date.â
âMe either.â Zach smirks against your skin before he decides to nip your side slightly, laughing quietly when you jump and gasp at the grazing of his teeth. Instead of working down, he decides to work up and nuzzles just under the band of your bra.
One hand blindly makes its way to his shoulder again, grasping the thick cords of muscle there and reminding you just how powerful this broad man is that is being so tender and playful with you. At this point itâs Zachâs game â to explore and to pleasure and to discover â and every point of contact between you is a spark catching fire.
It takes just a second to discover that your bra hooks in the front, to Zach's utter delight, making it easy to unbind your breasts and capture a nipple in his mouth before your shirt is even off or your straps slid down your arms.
The heat and pressure of Zachâs mouth feels boiling even on this warm night, sending you gasping and cursing as you grip his shoulder tighter. If you get any wetter your shorts might outright dissolve, but he would probably consider that a bragging right.
Zach groans against your nipple, loving the little arch to your back, pushing your breast to his mouth more. Offering yourself up.
There is no steady rhythm to any of it as Zach works to take you apart piece by piece. He has a method in his madness, surely, but you are breathless and moaning as he reduces you to a human puddle on the bedsheets. While you canât see him like this you can definitely feel him, and your hands tug at his shirt again to get that luscious skin-on-skin sensation as he starts to travel down your body.
He takes his time, learning the sensitive spots on your body and enjoying every soft sound he pulls out of your mouth. Until he is dragging your shorts down your legs.
Itâs about fucking time says the impatient voice in your head as you squirm in the bed and lift your hips to help him move things along. Heâs consented to take his shirt off, at least, so that warmth that rolls off of him in waves can seep directly into your bones. You whimper as the cool breeze of exposure hits your overheated cunt, dripping with need and aching for attention.
âFuck, you look so pretty right now.â Zach groans at the sight of your wet lips, hair trimmed and manicured. You either were hoping that the night would end this way, or you were very meticulous about your grooming. Heâs kind of hoping for the former even though he wouldnât care if you had done anything. âBaby, you look good enough to eat.â
âTease.â You whine, trying to sound huffy but only succeeding in strangling another moan when his breath ghosts over your swollen pussy. Even with his hands caressing your thighs, youâre squirming.
Itâs been a long goddamn time since Zach has had a pussy in his face, but he loves the musky scent of your wet sex. Making him twitch and groan as he slowly spreads your lips wide for him to drag his tongue up your folds for that first, tantalizing lick.
âFuck, fuck, fuckââ With your back arching and your fingers tight in his hair, itâs so easy to lose yourself to one little taste.
He makes a sound of pleasure as he flicks his tongue over your clit and comes back for another pass. This time starting lower and letting his tongue tease your entrance before sliding higher.
If you werenât blindfolded already you might have cum just from the sight of him. His lips and tongue explore while his hands keep you steady, holding you in place so the buck of your hips doesnât unseat him before he can really get going.
He absorbs your sound, your taste. The very essence of your being, feasted on as he slowly and thoroughly licks through you like a meal he is savoring.
Itâs a stunning combination of thorough exploration and eager enthusiasm that has you writing and moaning his name so quickly. You could have had a date yesterday and everything about tonight would already be better. Zach seems somehow to know exactly what you like without asking, reading your signals perfectly air pushing you higher and higher until his name is the only word on your lips.
Zach is completely entranced by the way you respond to his touch, never having a lover he feels so in-sync with. Itâs like heâs touched you a million times before rather than just these last few minutes.
The whole world has stopped existing around you. It's just you and Zach and this bed and every new height of pleasure that he keeps building you to. The press of his hands on your hips, the deep push of his tongue, the sharp half-scrape of his teeth near your clit that he's discovered makes you gasp and moan.
âCum for me baby.â He pulls away to gasp his plea, the need to see you fall apart about to rupture in his veins and make him go mad. His grip tightening on your hips and he dives back into your cunt with the desperation of a man starved thatâs reached his oasis.
You don't have to tell me twice, you would say if you could swim through the thick mire of bliss to tease him. Instead, and much more true to the moment, you let out a sobbing moan and beg for just a little bit more to send you over the edge.
He hears the unspoken plea in your whimpers and opens his mouth wider to just devour you. Burying himself into your pussy where his nose is blocked by your mound as he pushes you over the edge and if he died in this moment, he would die blissfully happy.
Your back arches fiercely one more time, lifting your shoulders off the bed as you hit that sharp crest that explodes into your climax. All of your muscles tense and curses spill freely, interspersed with his name and moans entirely without words â until that crest becomes altogether too much, the thread mercifully snaps, and you fall back on the mattress an utterly satisfied puddle.
Zach is slow to pull his mouth away. Savoring the little tremors that race through your thighs and makes your pussy clench against his chin as he laps at your juices one last time before he lifts his head with a groan of satisfaction. âAnd just think, weâve only started.â He hums playfully, knowing that the night has just begun.

genuinely wish i hadnt watched season 2, its changed how i see things. i miss season 1 so bad and those versions of the characters. i was not having a good time sidenote: (spoilers)
i really want to know what ekko said to jinx i mean she was so stuck on trying to kill herself that even ekko's presence didnt make her stop and we're supposed to just guess what he said to make her come back with her hair cut short ? this is what i mean when i say that they dropped the ball on character for the sake of plot. i want to know why characters are doing things, why they're working together besides "oh we were fighting but now theres ambessa and viktor to stop so we'll come back to our interpersonal conflicts" only to Never actually Do That. they kept setting up interesting conversations only to cut away from them.
i really resonated with jinx in season 1, and this season i was watching and waiting for something but she was just so subdued the whole time she felt like a different character to me. which is fine because i know grief can do that to a person. but my favorite moments of hers were her fights with vi and with isha. and they really killed isha and then never mentioned her again like ???? why do that
im very character > plot. it could be the most nonsensical thing but as long as the characters are good im having fun. and so much of the plot of this season was about the war and the anomaly that i did not give a single fuck about, i was waiting for character moments that would make me hurt inside and they didnt really happen. not in the soul crushing way season 1 did. i still sob over silco and jinx is season 1 act 3. and i wanted that kind of emotional devastation
for example i dont understand cait and vi at all. im trying so hard to see why theyd be into each other, break up like that and get back together and i genuinely Do Not understand. maybe its my aromanticism rearing its ugly head again but i have no idea what the fuck they were doing the Entire time.
if i dont understand the characters, it kills the whole thing for me. and i did not understand the character motivation in this season.
ekko mel and jayce hard carried this season for me im so proud of them. (especially jayce i love him)

Bravo to you for choosing not to let Rem be forgiven so easily. Honestly I've never been a big fan of Rem as a character, sometimes her endless pandering and obsession with subaru just really annoys me instead, and I've never understood people looking at her doing all that and then saying âWow that's so hot I'm so jealous of Subaru!â
As for the ones who want her deeds to be easily forgiven by everyone, my personal guess is that they all only care about her body and the unheathy way she forces herself to act like the perfect waifu just for Subaru's sake, but subconsciously they can't stand the shit she did either, so they secretly want their favorite waifu to be a perfect being without flaws. But to me, isn't it essential to love a character and accept their flaws as well? They did wrong things, but there's no doubt THEY did them anyway, and that is part of what makes them who they are. Another thing is that forgiveness has to be earned, we're not cruel, coldhearted, or closeminded for not forgiving someone who hurts us. So I too agree with that anon who thinks WHDAA cast need to to beat some sense into Subaru on way too forgiving and tolerating the people who have hurt/killed him.
But now that you've decided to do that, beware of those rabid Rem stans coming after you and I'm worried that their harassment goes overboard and affects your personal life
I will say â I believe that Rem and Subaruâs canon dynamic is one of the most intriguing and multifaceted dynamics in the entire series. Their parallels regarding their insecurities and family members, their mutually codependent tendencies, the way they run the risk of becoming each otherâs perfect enablers, the genuine sense of love and affection that runs parallel to the unintentional toxicity fostered within their relationship â itâs all really interesting stuff. In fact, exploring their dynamic through the lens of outsiders (including amnesiac!Rem) finally getting to peer under the hood is one of the main reasons I wanted to write a react fic at all.
As for why people like her â honestly, I think itâs kinda easy to guess? Sheâs a very cutely designed anime girl, sheâs incredibly well-voiced, her insecurities are genuinely relatable, sheâs got a super awesome oni power-up transformation, her morning star lends itself to some of the best choreographed action scenes in the series (or at least Season 1), she appeals to the whole âsubmissive maidâ aesthetic that she knows Subaru finds attractive (and that also appeals to the target demographic of Re:Zero specifically, letâs be real here) â and frankly, there are so many scenes in anime where characters weâre supposed to like do fucked up shit that itâs not difficult to justâŠgloss over the whole âtortured the mc for several hoursâ part of her character. Itâs understandable, especially if youâre not an insane person who spends all their time hyperanalyzing the anime theyâre a fan of like I am. I donât think itâs really that far of a leap for her to develop such a massive following, she was basically designed to be as popular an anime waifu as physically possible.
But then, that clash can becomeâŠa little uncomfortable if youâre writing a story where âRem tortures Subaruâ is a major plotpoint, and if you donât want to reevaluate their entire relationship, it makes sense to find a way to just â get the characters to move along, much like a lot of the irl audience does.
But I really like toxic characters and angst and complicated relationships and all that fun stuff, so thatâs what Iâm gonna focus on. âAlso Rem is WORSE in the LN. Girl starts fantasizing about whisking Subaru away while heâs practically comatose from shock (second Arc 3 loop) and then also makes a comment like âeven if he had tried to assault her in her sleep, she knew she never would have resistedâ like GIRL??? The idea of not tapping that insane well of potential drama is ludicrous to me lmaooâ especially because I really donât care about maintaining the status quo ;)
(Also frankly, anyone who would start seriously harassing me over whether or not I share their opinion about a fucking anime girl is too pathetic for me to care about. I honestly donât think Iâll get that big of a response â especially not on Tumblr âGay Websiteâ Dot Com â but even if I doâŠI donât care, lmao.)

Hey, just want to say thank you for your post following the TROP rumors and all. Especially for your paragraphs saying that Haladriels are not the entire audience of TROP đ I'm a haladriel/saurondriel and I am feeling so burnt out because loud voices in our shipping ranks are constantly telling us to "produce content non-stop" to "keep the team's eyes" on the ship and I hate that this is draining me of my enjoyment... I'm afraid to talk, comment on their posts, tell them they're wrong for doing this because they are "loud" voices in the shipping ranks and I feel very alone... You post hits the nail on the fact that we, shippers, are not the "entire" audience and that we can relax so thank you so, so much for being level-headed and for making this post đđđđđ
A haladriel/saurondriel shipper.
Hey there, thank you so much for reaching out!!
First, let me say how sorry I am that youâre going through this.
Shipping should be a fun, creative outlet where you can explore stories and connections that make you happyânot something that feels like a chore or a high-stakes game to keep a ship ârelevant.â Itâs incredibly unfair that anyone would put this kind of pressure on you (or any shipper, really).
A quick note before I dive in: This post isnât about shading anyoneâs ship, whether itâs Haladriel, Saurondriel, Elrondriel, or anything else. Iâm coming at this as someone who loves fandom and believes we should be able to enjoy our spaces without unnecessary stress or pressureâregardless of what ship weâre sailing on. This is about broader fandom dynamics, not ship wars or personal preferences. So whether you ship Haladriel, Elrondriel, or even something rare like Gil-galad/Sauron (hey, no judgment here), this applies to everyone.
Iâm just an Elrondriel (Elrond/Galadriel) shipper sharing observations about fandom dynamics Iâve seenâitâs not tied to any specific ship.
Hot take but, just because some voices are loud doesnât mean theyâre right.
Being the loudest in the room doesnât make someone the smartest, the kindest, or the most insightful. It just makes them loudâand exhausting, if Iâm being honest.
Iâm not a Haladriel/Saurondriel shipper, but that doesnât matter.
Nobody deserves to feel like their fandom experience is being dictated by others, and it breaks my heart that you feel like you canât even comment or speak up for fear of backlash. Your voice matters, and your enjoyment of your ship matters. Please donât let the pressure steal that from you.
Shipping isnât supposed to be a war for visibilityâitâs about celebrating the stories and dynamics you love.
And let me just say, the whole idea of shippers being the sole âeyesâ on a show is nonsense.
Sorry not sorry.
Like I said in my post, while ships might be a part of the fandom, nobody is the entirety of the audienceânot Haladriels, not Saurondriels, not Elrondriels, not anyone.
The team behind The Rings of Power isnât sitting in a council chamber of Lindon tallying ship content like itâs some sort of fanfiction popularity contest. Trust me, theyâre not lurking in the shadows of Mount Doom, whispering, âWhich ship reigns supreme?â Theyâre focused on the bigger pictureâcrafting a story that weaves together epic arcs, characters, and lore while keeping the show engaging for a global audience.
At the end of the day, what truly sways their decisions isnât a battle of ships but the cold, hard numbers (Bezosâs precious, if you will). Ratings, viewer retention, and the broad reception of the show will hold more sway than whoâs penning the most fanfiction or tweeting the loudest.
Itâs the Fellowship of metrics, not a popularity contest in the Prancing Pony.
You know, I think itâs important to note something about the loudest voices pushing these kinds of demands: more often than not, theyâre loud because theyâre insecure. Truly secure and confident people donât feel the need to shout their opinions from the rooftops or guilt-trip others into action. The ones making all this noise about "we have to do this," "be active on every platform," "produce endless content," etc., are likely projecting their own fears and anxieties onto everyone else.
And thatâs not your burden to carry.
Frankly, this level of seriousness theyâre bringing to the table is exhaustingâand unnecessary.
Weâre talking about a TV show.
Some of these folks are acting like if their ship isnât front and center, the Eye of Bezos will turn its gaze upon them and smite their content from existence. Spoiler alert besties: it wonât!!
Seriously, these people need to chill out.
Theyâre treating this like the War of the Last Alliance when, in reality, itâs more like a friendly debate in the Green Dragon over a pint. Itâs okay to be passionate, but when youâre marshaling your forces to âproduce content non-stopâ and acting like Galadriel preparing for a battle against ultimate evil, you might be taking this whole thing a little too far.
The thing is, nobodyâand I mean nobodyâis sitting there in a dark tower, tallying how much fan art or fic exists for one ship versus another. Amazon isnât crafting their narrative based on which tag is trending. This isnât a race to Mount Doom; itâs a TV show meant to entertain, inspire, and occasionally frustrate us.
By all means, love your ship, create content, and engage with othersâbut maybe letâs leave the doomsday rhetoric and One Ship to Rule Them All vibes in Mordor where they belong.
It's supposed to be a piece of entertainment meant to bring us joy, inspire creativity, and spark meaningful discussionsânot a battlefield where everyone has to prove their worth or risk their ship "sinking." The sheer pressure theyâre piling on isnât just unproductive; itâs counterproductive. Itâs alienating people like you who just want to enjoy what they love in peace.
And letâs be real: there are so many bigger issues in the world than fandom dynamics. Who has the energy to turn their hobbies into a high-stakes competition? If the energy theyâre pouring into pressuring others was instead spent on, I donât know, actually creating content they enjoy, the fandom would be a much healthier, happier place.
At the end of the day, you donât owe anyone your time or effort just because they think itâs essential. The pressure to be "active" on every platform or constantly churning out content isnât sustainable, and itâs not what makes a fandom thrive. What truly matters is passion and genuine engagement, and if that means stepping back to preserve your joy, then thatâs 100% valid.
So, donât let their insecurity or intensity rob you of the enjoyment you deserve. Focus on what makes you happy, and leave the rest to sort itself out.
So take a deep breath. You donât owe anyone constant content, and you certainly donât owe anyone your silence. If those loud voices in your shipâs ranks are draining you, itâs okay to step back. Your enjoyment and mental health come first. And if you ever need a break or someone to rant to, my DMs are always open Anon!
Youâre not alone in this, even if it feels like it. You that you deserve to enjoy your ships your wayâno pressure, no strings attached, no loud voices dictating the terms. Sending you the biggest, warmest hug (and maybe a cup of lembas tea, because we all need it sometimes). đ

Rings of Power Characters Play Scrabble
Galadriel â Protests that this isnât her kind of game and then puts down several unexpected triple word scores, blowing her competition out of the water.
Elrond â Puts down words no one else has ever heard of and will fight to the death to prove they are legitimate.
Gil-galad â Turns up right at the end, puts down an incredible word, then leaves.
Celebrimbor â Oddly brilliant at making words that combine perfectly with other words.
Cirdan â Gets distracted reminiscing about other Scrabble games heâs played in the past.
Arondir â Words are not his forte. He frowns at the board a lot, but he looks very pretty doing so.
Durin IV â All his words are to do with weapons or rocks, and he gives up halfway through to get drunk instead.
Disa â Puts down many different words for ârockâ and argues that they are all Dwarven translations. Probably cheating.
King Durin III â Puts down âBalrogâ and then shakes in a corner for a while.
Narvi â Teams up with Celebrimbor to make new combinations of word that no one has ever heard of but somehow sound really legit.
Theo â Puts down only swear words.
Estrid â Has a better vocabulary than anyone expected and does passably well.
Isildur â Is too busy talking about how amazing Estrid is to actually play himself.
Elendil â Does well until he realises he might beat Miriel and then throws the game.
Miriel â Can play Scrabble in her head and comes up with some amazing words. Knows that Elendil lets her win and berates him about it later.
Pharazon â Definitely cheating.
Earien â Knows all the tricks and tips, is the kind of person who wins the whole game with the word âohâ.
Valandil â Keeps getting screwed over by Earienâs tricks.
Kemen â Wasnât invited. Again.
Nori and Poppy â Get bored very quickly, when they stand up to get more food they accidentally tip the whole board over and no one can remember where any of the words were.
The Stranger â Thinks the idea of the game is to invent new words, and has so much fun doing so that no one can bring themselves to correct him.
Adar â Poetry in motion. He puts down words that makes the Elves cry to see them.
Tom Bombadil â Keeps swapping out all his letters for new ones and then puts down the most incredible words right at the end of the game.
Sauron â Swaps his rubbish letters for other peoples when their back is turned and then gaslights them into thinking nothing changed.
