This ask is a free pass to ramble about your ocs/stories if u want. Please tell me about them. I'd love to hear
YAY I LOVE CHRISTMAS if you don’t know much about the series (or uh. UTMV in general) this will be incomprehensible (it probably will be even if you do, my mind only makes sense to me alone and even then I get confused because there is a lot going on in here) so i apologise in advance
Okay so at the moment we’re a little too early for the OCs I was talking about before because all except the mer guy don’t even have their parents born at the moment. I will still talk about them but I kinda wanna talk about the next fic that’s coming up because I’ve been working on chapter on and off all month and I’m SO EXCITED!!
Okay so, I’m calling it Kintsugi, named after the Japanese pottery repair technique which will make sense because this one’s about Ink!! Why does this make sense, random new people might ask?; well not only was he basically pieced back together after he ripped his own Soul apart, but…he has a new Soul now!
…I know this is often not handled well and a lot of other Ink enjoyers aren’t a fan on this, but bear with me! - It’s actually technically…Broomie’s Soul?? In a sense? But both Ink and Broomie’s magic (because Broomie is its own entity in my stories, iykyk but it’s technically from another series I’m writing that takes place before this one. It’s Complicated) are so intertwined after millennia of partnership that it directly affects Ink too. This new Soul was made of a small chunk of like these crystal structures outside of the rest of existence (they’re significant to Broomie in particular, but that’s wayyy too spoilery to get into right now), and Broomie has kinda unlocked new Creation powers as a result! …Unfortunately, the Truce states that Ink can’t aid in the Creation of new AUs, so they’re mostly just used on repairs and silly little additions to the Doodle Sphere
Anyway, the fic mostly handles Ink’s adjustments to this change, him bonding with Error whilst they tackle Corruption issues in the AUs, and of course ending said Corruption. Not permanently, but enough where it’s at a manageable state for the rest of the series and ensures it doesn’t come up nearly as much. Also FELLOW ERRINK ENJOYERS REJOICE - THEY ARE THE ENDGAME OF THIS FIC!!
Unfortunately due to the nature of this being an actual character centric fic (like how 404 was SUPPOSED to be but I got a bit focused on other characters to the point where it’s just a fic about Error. Kintsugi is purely focused on Ink and Broomie) other characters getting attention will be purely coincidental due to their proximity to them; i.e. PJ, Error, Dream, etc. BUT THAT’S OKAY BECAUSE I LOVE INK AND HAVE LESS TROUBLE WRITING WITH HIM INVOLVED THAN ANYONE ELSE!! HE’S LITERALLY ME!!! (<- foaming at the mouth)
Anyway, I’ll stop talking Kintsugi for now because, again, spoilers, it’s due to come out around the New Year with any luck. So we’ll move onto OCs! Just keep in mind the ones I’ll talk about aren’t gonna be around for…A WHILE. One of them has a mom who is born when PJ - currently 5 years old in Kintsugi! - is 22 years old. That’s a while off.
Anyway! Said OC is the one in the wheelchair! This is because one of her moms is part snake monster, but whilst she didn’t manage to actually inherit the snake tail, she can’t walk at all. This is completely fine, though, because she’s kickass in her wheelchair; she learns how to fight just as hard as anyone else in it, and even surpasses a lot of her family members in strength due to her being able to just think up new tactics on the fly. She’s basically everything I wish I was when I was wheelchair bound for about a year as a teenager and I love her. She also has a slight speech impediment due to having fangs that are slightly too big for her mouth but, you know what, I find it hard to talk with average sized teeth, she’s probably better at communicating than I am even with the teeth, it’s whatever
Second OC I wanna talk about I will name but that’s because she’s on my mind all the time; Opal!! She’s a Poth kid, minor Goddess of the moon in Reapertale, and she, like her grandpa Geno, also uses a cane! I headcanon that a lot of the Afterdeath family do, in fact; Raven would likely need a mobility aid due to his shoulder, I’m pretty sure Goth is canonically disabled due to stunted magic (you can fact check me on this, but I’m basing this off of that comic where he’s training with Underfell Papyrus; he can’t use magic attacks all that well but he’s okay with using his scythe and, yeah, you can just attribute this to him being Reaper’s kid, but I’m pretty sure even Reaper can use magic attacks alright), Sorrell is quite literally totally blind and would need a cane regardless of headcanon…I’m unsure about Xhaji (which I learned recently is actually an Afterfresh kid?? Oops. Still keeping her as an Afterdeath kid here) and Shino, but my own Afterdeath kid, Reah, would also need some sort of aid since her legs are very weak in comparison to the rest of her body. But, Opal specifically needs a cane because she somehow inherited Geno’s high DT levels (Goth has it too, but his body can handle it better than hers), so she can easily grow tired, her bones are pretty brittle (similar to Reah’s legs), if she were to ever get severely wounded she would begin to melt rather than dust, etc. However she’s still quite active, since she helps Palette a lot with his job (he starts out with his own group of defenders when he’s a teenager, but over time he kinda just…Accidentally becomes an inter-dimensional delivery guy on his big air ship lmao). She’s otherwise pretty relaxed though, and mostly just likes to read books and bake. She’s also in a band with her two datemates! She’s a bassist :]
And yeah! Last OC I mentioned in tags - Splash! The mer guy! He’d also need some kind of aid on land, but, again, I wanna focus more on how to figure out how to draw hearing aids on his webbed ears…As well as the logistics of how they could work underwater.
Wait wait wait actually. One last OC who would need an aid; shipkid whose parents I won’t identify yet, she’s completely mute. I always imagined her having like this text to speech program on her phone, but idk! This is a sci-fi/fantasy mashup multiverse! Anything is possible, I should get more creative with it
I would also talk more about Aurelium, since I can a bit more now Moon and Stars is out, but, this post is long enough. I’ll save their post for another time ^^;
#mul71v3r53#not mul71v3r53#?? tentatively tagging that one#because it’s more discussions than actual content#I realise I’ve posted like 3 times in quick succession but hey it’s Christmas#also started this one this morning but got busy all day with celebrations so! you’re getting it now

Hi, it's the same anon from yesterday who got broken up with. I would like some advice again. So we talked again today for a clarification, how do we go forward as friends talk. And something they said is really fucking with my head now.
They said that they dont want our dynamic to change but we are taking a break aka, (in their eyes I asked) we are not dating but they intend/hope to pick it back up at some (to me) undetermined point in the future.
And for context, the reason I was given for the split was that they dont want a relationship while dealing with some medical issues. I'm very aware that this is a bias ass view aka mine. But something about them expecting to put the relationship on hold and just be able to pick it back up when its convenient for them is really fucking with my brain right now. It kinda feels like a "The Audacity" moment in my eyes because, to me, it's coming across like they feel that I am someone they can put on hold indefinitely but come back to at any point and it's all good.
Idk, if you have any other insight or advice I'd really appreciate it -🦌💔
Yeah I'm not gonna lie that's throwing up red flags to me as well. Obviously, I don't know the full details of your ex's personality or your overall relationship dynamic but from an extreme outside point of view this isn't sounding too good.
Cause I can understand not being in the mental space for a relationship due to medical issues but, at the same time, if you're going to drop the relationship every time other aspects of your life get stressful then that's not fair to your partner.
Plus the idea of "we're no longer dating but I don't want the way we interact to change" is also something that can be a major red flag. Because in some cases it's a way for someone to say "I would like you to continue providing me with certain aspects of our previous relationship without being obligated to return that energy because we're no longer technically dating."
I'm not trying to be overly dramatic or doom-and-gloom about it but, from my point of view, it does seem like they're not being fair to you. It really looks, like you said, like they're trying to get their space and keep you on the hook all at the same time.
Again though you know your ex better than I ever will, you know yourself and your relationship dynamics and the situation better than I ever will, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
Best overall advice would be to go back to them and lay how you feel out on the table as long as that's a safe option. It's gonna be hard and it's gonna hurt but clear communication now could save you a lot of grief in the future.
But, above all else, you deserve to put yourself first and to take care of your own emotional wellbeing. So do what you feel is best for you and know that, either way, you're going to make it through.
#RayRambles#as always this is kind of blind advice#as I don't know the more intimate details#so I hope it helps#but go with your own judgement#if it doesn't feel right to you then that's what matters

Category's• Romcon, Comedy, Office Au.

A spin-off of the original series ‘ What's Wrong With Secretary Kim’ Bangtan Edition! Starring the Handsome, Seo-Joon Park as the Ex husband.
There will be more parts but I didn’t want the title to be to long.
EP. One Two
“ Mrs. Park, Good Morning!”
“Mrs. Park, What does my schedule look like today?”
“Mrs. Park, Your coffee keeps me alive.”
In case you haven’t noticed, Park Yn, I’m the secretary to Jeon Sung-ho, the CEO of Dnd Parmatech, 85 percent of the time, newly build hospitals or centers use our funds as kickstarts. Daily I make schedules, appointments, filing documents, answering calls, and blah blah blah.
Is it boring? Yes, I know. However, quite refreshing coming from my hectic marriage. Once upon a time, I was wedded to the marvelous actor Park Seo-Joon for three years. I sat in the limelight and even had the privilege to play the part of his wife in movies. Sigh. Although the attention and riches were grand, no amount of expensive counseling could save our marriage. We never saw eye to eye on anything, and his short temper wasn’t helping.
Knowing my worth, I packed up and left without a doubt in my head. However, The documentation of our separation wasn’t finalized due to a certain one refusing to sign off on the divorce agreement. So physically, I’m still Mrs. Park but ain’t no piece of paper telling who I belong too.
Whatever! I have too much to focus on already! Game on, Game on! First, I got to get these papers approved and signed by Mr. Jeon then-
Buzz Buzz Buzz!
Who’s calling-
Speak of the devil. I could have sworn I deleted his contact a long time ago! “ What Seo-Joon? I’m busy-“
“ When is this little temper tantrum going to end? Darling, I think you made your point.”
“My point?! Listen here, You slimy son of-” Now, Now Yn calm down calm down don’t let him get a rise out you that just what he wants. A quick exhale should do the trick. “ Seo-Joon, I believe we reached an agreed on no type of communication unless it revolves around the settlement for the divorce.”
How is it possible I can physically see his snarky face?
Seo-Joon stretched out his list of complaints.” It’s been over a year. I miss your kisses, soft skin, that cute birthmark on your-“
“ You will not talk about such embarrassing things over the phone!” Thank goodness, Nobody was around to hear me shot like that.
“Why is this divorce still an issue?!” There goes that temper again-How whinny can one man be? “ If you don’t stop this, I will take matters into my own hands.”
I laughed. “ Ha, Seo-jerk, I’m not scared of you! Do your worst because It doesn’t matter if you drag me back home; it doesn’t subside the problem being over our marriage.” I feel like a broken record at this point. “ If this isn’t about the papers, this conversation is over, Mr. Park; please refrain from calling me again, goodbye.”
He chuckled and mumbled something along the lines of, “ Your cute acting cheeky like this.” The rest he continued louder “ Those delicate hands of yours were made to indulge in the finest silk and satin I can obtain, not working nine to five at whatever job hired a housewife with zero work ethic. I just know I haven’t touched your side of the room since that night- I love you, Mrs.Park, I always will.”
He hung up. You know, after he finished insulting my new lifestyle and calling me a useless housewife, the ‘ I love you’ bit at the end sounds sincere, but he is an actor! Of course.
Hmph! Just because I’m working for myself for one doesn’t mean I’m miserable. I’m actually in love with my job, It pays well with benefits, and I sat on my butt all day. If that pompous little bedazzled turd thinks making me the butt of his jokes will get me back in his arms, he has another thing coming!
“Um, Mrs. Park?”
“ What!” I snapped. “ Oh, Hoseok, I’m sorry!” I bowed my head; the poor thing nearly jumped out of his shoes.
Hoseok beamed his warm heart-shaped smile at me. “ Oppa is having a family meeting today; I guess I’m the first to show.”
I wasn’t informed about a meeting today from Mr.Jeon, maybe because it’s a family affair.
“Tada!” He cutely squeaks. A tasteful package breakfast alongside a tall cup of what I presume is a coffee from..’ Thanks Nature’!
“Oh my- Hobi, this cafe is across town-”
“I overhead Oppa scolding you for skipping meals one day and I’m here to do the same, don’t skip meals or else We will be hurt if something happens to you.” Hoseok pointed at the pack. “ Eat every bit.”
Hoseok displayed a small heart using his index finger and thumb, hopping off to his father’s double doors.
Mr. Jeon has seven sons in all. The man is a true saint; men like him and his sons are why I still believe not all men are dogs. After losing his wife to heart cancer, He just about went bankrupt, donating all he had to have found cures to multiple diseases hoping nobody else had to suffer his same heartbreak.
Love found him again in an orphanage just north of here, ‘Seoul Children Home.’ His first son, Kim Seokjin, at the time Jin was already in his teenage years, making it difficult for him to find a family due to the high demand of couples wanting a single-digit child. His birth family mistreated him, but he was beaten everywhere except his face to keep his handsome appearance. The family decided to put his money-maker to fair use and attempted to sell him. Seokjin saw his opportunity and high-tailed, landing himself in the orphanage where he happily lends a helping hand every chance he got. He learned how to read, write, cook, clean, and even tend to the tots when the nuns were busy.
This is how he met his slightly younger brothers, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, and Kim Namjoon; when being chosen for adoption, Seokjin refused to live without his baby brothers by his side.
“ Hello, Noona!”
Oh, Look just in time, “ Hello, You’re father is in his office.”
Namjoon eyed my edible gift from Hobi and raised his eyebrow as well as a question. “ So this is why Hyung left so early in the morning for-and I hope you’re having a good morning, Noona.”
I’m not older than them. Why do they call me Noona? Do I look old!?
“ Yn, Good morning! How are you!” Jin greeted me with English this morning. He must have been practicing with Namjoon lately.
“ I’m Fine. Seokjin.”
“Chu.” He blew a kiss my way. “ You’re not fine. You’re amazeing.”
“Amazing.” Namjoon corrected for the sidelines.
“Same thing.”
“Pronunciation is everything, Hyung.”
They stopped halfway from their dad’s office. Jin grinned. Wait, I know that smile; oh no, here comes a dad joke.
“ Hey, Namjoon-You know the reason I took the elevator instead of the stairs?”
Namjoon sighed. “ No, why?”
"I don't trust stairs. They're always up to something." Jin burst out laughing and clapped his hands.
I giggled not from the joke, but Jin has a contagious laugh.
“See, Yn has good taste.”
A slow deep groan entered the office belonging to Yoongi, lagging. “ I heard that terrible joke from the elevator.” Yoongi waved and leaned against my desk. “ Good Morning.”
“Good Morning.”
There was an awkward pause before Yoongi tapped my desk and pointed to his dad’s office from walking that way.
“Yoon-Yoongi!?”
He turned back towards me.
“ I have something for you. I packed it up on the way here.” Getting off my butt, I walked up and gave him a bottle of his favorite black ice coffee. Ew. I don’t know how he drinks it with no cream or sugar.
Yoongi smiled his gummy smile. “ Thank you for thinking of me.”
“You’re welcome.” And off he goes into the office as well.
Yoongi isn’t the biggest fan of human interaction, but he put forth an endeavor towards me, whether it’s a light ‘ Hi or Hello” or the simplicity of a wave. I admire his gusto. Sidenote, He’s so adorable-I know I know I shouldn’t be gushing over my boss’s son, but his chubby cheeks and almond eyes melt my heart like butter on toast!
Ahem-I better get back to answering those emails and drink this beautiful cup of expensive mud before it gets lukewarm. Yummy, The delectable taste is a boost of serotonin! I really should get to work buuut Hobi did command me to get every last bit and technically he is my boss through some type of weird relative aspect. He is the boss.
Just in a moment of seconds, The breakfast and drink was trash. Something that good should be sinful. I feel terrible I should have saved some for the babies; they would have some, especially Jungkook.
The babies should be here any minute.

I love your Anko fanart! Tell me, what are your views/headcannons on Anko X Kazuku?
hThank you so much for the ask, finally I can answer it
here is my big thank you for the waitng
In a nutshell, the shipp was created by accident while me and my buddy were working on our first Naruto AU in 2019, where Kakuzu and Deidara survived their shitty plotholes end eventually ended up in Konoha
Yeah
so, the shipp’s birth date is july the 1, 2019
anything like classy, aristocracy kind of tension-filled passionate gothic romance with playful, psychological games & hurt/comfort vibes with slight scent of rivalry is KakuAnko
Basically, they are: a very, very old man with absolutely horrendous background who’s trying to finally have his mother*cking 10 or 30 years of peace, and a rather young lady with a rocky youth who’s being good & noble yet has very strong antihero tendencies
You know, I think they do have potential, since, in fact, they seem to be very similar, at the core
They are both very pragmatic realists, the people of logic and reason, yet if Kakuzu’s irritability doesn’t affect him a tiny bit due to his ideal self-control, Anko’s can lead her to quite bad places, sometimes. They put their interests in the first place, and even though she tries to attach them to Konoha’s, she still has ‘personal’ things (I’ll write ‘bout it lower*). Their mindsets are so complicatedly organized that, at some point & way, it prevents them from having many close people, and makes them very hard to see through and predict
Both of them are very flexible & adaptive, independent individuals with similar outlooks on plenty of things and high intellectual level. They clearly can find plenty of traits that they would highly respect and adore in each other
Here I will speak mostly for “why and how” kind of things, bc both of them are terribly tricky to accurately figure out. But there will be some headcanons too
So, there are still some odds about them, due to the strong difference in their occupation, like, in plenty of cases they are really tricky to be brought together, because:
- Of the job
In original, Anko is a Konoha’s special jounin, and she is very dedicated to serving the country. Independently of whether she likes her job or not (depends on the plot), she orienteers at the people, at society’s gain from her work. So, accordingly, in any other AU her job is somehow connected to civil service, whether it’s something police-like, connected to science, or something like CCG in Tokyo Ghoul
Kakuzu, on the other hand, is a hitman and a persona non grata in literally all the five big countries, Konoha too (which makes it barely possible to bring them together in the original universe without hard complications or heavy drama. But still possible). He orienteers on his own gain alone, but, depending on the job, it can include others’ gain, too.
This detail makes him a saint once he holds supervising position in some company or any high position in the government (the better the working conditions of the staff now- the more money in the prospective), and the sheer nightmare once he has it on the opposite side of the law. Him as a mob boss is a complete different topic for discussion, but to get the point, in this case, the trouble isn’t him increasing the level of criminality (its rather vice-versa), but taking hold of too much control in the high and underground structures. Even as an ordinary hitman he’s rather tricky, since everything depends on the case
In most of the stories, they come to some sort of compromise, and how hard it is to reach it depends on how shitty his job is and how attached they are to each other at the moment
Like, in the above mentioned Shippuden AU and Harry Potter AU (which I also wrote with my buddy) everything went like clockwork, because there they are both more or less on this side of the law, in Tokyo Ghoul AU (which I also wrote with my buddy) it is a bit more complicated, with her being in-law and him being very much outlaw, in the Avatar AU (which I also figured out with my buddy, but we never happened to write it) it is also pretty smooth, with both of them being outlaws and then jumping out to the glory after all the shit is done, but in another Shippuden AU of mine, this all would be just a motherfucking bloody disaster
- Kakuzu is actually a hard nut to get attached to anyone
He lived too long to be truly afraid of anything, though. Its mostly because he doesn’t really need to get attached to or become close with someone to satisfy his need for communication. The man can get along with anyone once he wishes to, he can have countless acquaintances and plenty of buddies, but he doesn’t have many comrades and barely can call anyone a friend. Because he is used to lose everything and everyone he ever had or happened to have, because of his inhumanly lengthened lifespan.
It requires time for him to get used to the person, and then, eventually, in some cases, spend plenty of it to get attached
Plus, for him, due to his profession, each close connection is a really great responsibility for him. In most cases, he’d think twice of weather he is ready to take it or not
Though it of course has the personal factor, too
In Anko’s case, she has a grand privilege by being a very intelligent and keen woman, not just in cognitive plane, but in emotional, too. High emotional intellect is actually a rare trait, so she automatically stands out of the crowd for him. Even though it won’t guarantee his alliance, it will grant her his high respect and some sort of sympathy
- Kakuzu is, technically, an asshole
He does have his moral compass, which includes a great amount of common social morality, but he also has that “I am working” state
Even though Kakusu has a set of professional principles, and he still acts accordingly to what he thinks is right, one and the very same situation can be solved diametrically different once the context changes from working to casual and vice versa
This, and him being very independent and quite antisocial, makes the degree of assholeness depend on various factors
This can lead to major conflicts of interests, and if they are possible to have any compromise or not is strongly attached to the circumstances. After all, both are very, very prideful and dignified people
- In other words, the only major issue for them would be morality questions. It’s possible to make the case acceptable for Anko, since both of them ain’t truly squeaky clean, along with Kakuzu being willing enough to watch his borders
- She is provident and doesn’t really need a lot of money on a daily basis, which is much of a joy to him lol
- *they both seek for the stable ground, first of all
Taking in consideration the life conditions Kakuzu had in his youth (despite war state, he still stably had family, friends, grand respect from everyone, home, warmth and food) and how terribly he was torn out of his secured social environment, I believe what he seeks through all his bounty hunt and other money-connected manipulations is stability. Sustainability he had back then. The only way to have it in the conditions of our existent world order is to have money (and a very good mind and luck)
Anko has indeed much more altruistic motives, yet it’s still not that simple. It seems to be, on the first sight, yet considering the “Orochimaru related cases” and her very wayward behavior toward them, it’s clear she keeps her own motives and needs in mind oh so well. The service she has is very well payed, it allows her to do what she likes or believes is right, and to have the living conditions she finds comfortable. And only here, relying on the made sustainable basis, she does what she does
- Thus, they both illustrate the principle “first help yourself, next help the other” just right
- She knows she can keep an eye on him, yet it’s clear for her that her influence isn’t borderless, as well as telling him off some stuff is kind of a not wise thing to do. So in the majority of cases, she never interferes
- This is not common, yet he can actually change some plans if the situation is serious and the compromise can’t be found. He is that kind of person who works on a further prospective, and in this context, this would be the relationship with his loved one
- While Kakuzu is quite conflicted and has very reserved controversial persona, Anko is both controversial, conflicted, and sort of two-faced, on top of that
She is a very sincere, cheerful and humbly honest human being, yet she has some darker natural traits of her character that became rather strong with age and traumatic experience. Cunningness, guile, ways-depend-on-the-case and a bit of ruthlessness, that is. Moreover, she has some unsolved personal issues, which makes her even more twisted.
Like, remember the time when she confronted Orochimaru during the exam? And Kabuto, on the war? Getting rid of them is indeed beneficial for Konoha, but it’s clear that for her it is personal vendetta in the first place. She wouldn’t have tried to do this alone, otherwise, because these two are rather dangerous ones, to say the least.
She uses greater good to cover her real motives (even though it is not truly complete bullshit), and seems to have a terrible habit to keep silence about really important things, which makes her quite prone to lying, in some cases
And sometimes it very badly pisses Kakuzu off, since it makes her prone to doing useless but dangerous shit too
Yet this not any kind of separate hidden side, it is integrated into her personality, and coexists with her bright one. That’s where her violent humour comes from, for example.
But Kakuzu, on the other side, is completely monolith individual, yet sometimes his mindset can create contradictions when it comes to something important to him. but it's another topic
And seeing these layered constructions, and motives, they can pretty finely predict each other’s behavior. Not super-neatly, but they for sure see the basis. This is what helps Kakuzu to prevent Anko from doing some stupid shit, sometimes
- Anko has a role of an indicator for the people who don’t understand and see the changes in Kakuzu’s mood sometimes, since she usually reacts quite openly. Yet, when she has the same unreadable mask of cold, or one of guile, it’s a nightmare for them
- They prefer the non-verbal way to show their feelings, even though Anko is obviously the more chatty one
- They don’t say things such as “I love you”, or other sensual stuff like that really often, believing it to be some sort of cherished words that shall not be spelled mindlessly
- Anko isn’t majorly into PDA, but she fancies it much more than Kakuzu does. She has her whole moments of studying something with her hands, whether it’s a hand, scar or face. He’s more into passive display of affection, like wrapping an arm over her waist or leaning to her or something of this kind; they can allow themselves to (not sexually) kiss in public though
- She knows he doesn’t like to walk hand in hand due to considering it a youthful thing, so there are times when she intentionally walks holding on to his sleeve; generally they walk separately in order not to bother each other, but sometimes they walk arm in arm (like an old Victorian couple lol)
- Being older and wiser, Kakuzu eventually upholds some kind of mentoring position, yet he never considers himself any kind of a teacher or master to Anko, believing her to have a good head of her own. He is just insightful enough to break something through to her or give a word of advise
- This, combined with his highly powerful demeanor, also makes him have the leading position in their relationship
- Anko respects him much enough to fortify this, entrusting with plenty of life questions (like organizing the family budget), even though they make the majority of decisions together. Mostly because he is truly wise and highly experienced individual.
- This makes him one of the very few people Anko would actually listen to and take their opinion in consideration
- So basically they have equal relationship with some tendency to patriarchal order
- And it is, really, mostly economically-based disbalance, with him earning much more than she does
- Yet they never have any financial-based issues, since both of them keep in mind and respect the contributions of each
- There is major power play here, too. He has the absolute might, she has seduction. Anko loves how he makes her want to submit to him, let him have all the power, so she likes provoking him. And she knows he adores it, loves the subtle control she has over him
- They don’t have conflicts in their everyday life. Each knows how to avoid pissing one another off
- He cherishes her playful demeanor, her intellect. Combined with her cunningness, it allows her to rival him, in social sphere. The way she constructs her phrases, the way she speaks, mimics, moves, how bewitchingly it suits her feminine snaky features makes his blood boil and heart melt
- Both of them, actually, have rather specific kind of dry, dark humour. Kakuzu’s is very cynical, satirical, quite often menacing and subtly demeaning; Anko’s is very sarcastic and quite dirty, even gruesome and rather violent
- Sometimes they “fight” verbally as a form of a play. In some circumstances they may sound pretty vile, so some unobservant people mistake this for display of hate
- In general, Anko is the one to heat things up with her playful demeanor, which can include provocation and rivalry, and Kakuzu is the one to keep this energy in borders, accumulating it up to much more intense states
- They both put the comfort in the first place when it comes to household. Everything must be cozy, useful, silent and super clean
- Yet they are both very unpretentious and modest, really
- She absolutely adores when he is showing his serious, severe side, or powerful demeanor. She finds it incredibly suitable for him. She also likes how his real age is sliding out in this or that way. Like, even though he has rather young face (that of 37-40 y.o.), his eyes give away that he’ve seen oh so much more than it seems; the grumpy noises and grunts he makes, the lazy attitude in movements and the way how rapidly he finds a comfy pose once he has a chance to take a seat
- They are both rather patriotic, yet while in the most stories Anko’s feelings mostly lay towards the country she lives in, Kakuzu’s more often lay towards some places, so called small motherland.
- Kakuzu actually could be a source of deep, strong admiration and delight for her, despite all of his bullshit. The unbreakable will he has, mighty burning heart, all the wisdom, talents and mind. Being sent to fight god damn Hashirama, clearly a genius of his times, financial & management genius at the least. And, still, after all the hard times he’ve been through, he maintained the very strong sense of dignity and nobility, even though slightly twisted due to the profession and abnormal lifespan
- And the very same things can serve as the source for her chagrin: with all those traits, he could have been so much more rather than a criminal. With all the gifts he’ve got, he could have been of great use to society. He’s much easier about this, since his prospective is much wider and embraces decades (and in some universes even centuries) instead of months & years, and he knows that he’d be switching sides throughout his life, being on this and that side of the law, yet he still is a bit uncomfortable once it’s brought up
- They are deeply into science, which makes them atheists. He’s into medicine and human biology, she’s into chemistry and reptilian biology; both of them are nuts for physics, history and psychology
- They solve complicated physical and mathematical problems together time to time. She is the first one to have tea-breaks due to losing her temper over it, he tries to figure things out right until you can sense the smoke coming off his head
- Actually, they do have a stumbling stone aside from job & morality complications. And this is Anko’s attitude towards Orochimaru
What she does is basically ruins her life very-very slowly, maintaining the issues she has and planning to make him pay for all he’s done
Kakuzu knows exactly what is really going on with this attitude and why, but he can’t really do anything about it. Like, he knows he can’t make her change her mind or put something into her head
All he can do is really nothing but try to explain how those things are working, and even this option is basically a landmine field for him. At some level she does understand that he could probably be right, yet she just refuses to go back on her mind. And this is actually really dangerous, so at some moments they can fight quite badly about it
- He’s scared shitless to lose her, though; especially like that, even though he knows clearly that he will, anyway, sooner or later
- he knows that losing loved ones ends up with sheer disaster for him, yet he isn’t afraid to pay such a high price for those six, five or four decades of being with her. Because these decades are that of a paradise ones for him. Wife and family, as well as stable job, incomes and life conditions, are some sort of physical definitions of sustainability he craves. Especially family, yet it’s far ahead to plan
- The fact that he will have to bury her one day makes her rather depressed, as well as the knowledge that the only thing she can really do about it is to try to bring him as much happiness and comfort as possible before she dies
thank you, i'd say more, but it's too much already

Yandere Fairy Tail Hc’s
Tw: Yandere themes, unhealthy mindset, unhealthy relationship, possessiveness, delusions, clinginess, overprotective behavior, manipulation, stalking, blackmailing, threatening, sabotage, kidnapping, killing
Hibiki Lates
✨Hibiki is a semi-delusional Yandere. I admit it, he obviously is quite perceptive and intelligent so he isn't a fully delusional Yandere. Still though he can't help, but think of his darling as something more. He's a womanizer and rumors say that he's had many different girlfriends at the same time. But with the sudden entrance of his darling something seemed to change. He suddenly turned extremely obsessive, wanted to know everything about them and he could never stop thinking about them ever since. So even if he knows that some things he does aren't technically right, he views this whole situation as some sort of destiny and that his darling is his only one. He's quite infatuated with his darling for that reason.
✨Manipulative and overprotective. Hibiki obviously has his charm upon his sleeve and there is a reason he's been voted for several years in a row as a boyfriend every girl would like to have. Problem is that if his darling is looking for a serious relationship, they might ditch him since he is a womanizer and they wouldn't want to be with someone who hangs out with numerous women at the same time. Hibiki has to prove something in here and he is aware of that. But he's a determined and persistent man and he will make sure that he'll court his darling successfully and he isn't above making himself look better than other possible competitors. And a man has to protect his lover after all so of course he is more protective, though he overdoes it in order to look more like a gentleman.
✨Hibiki might just experience for the very first time in his life how real jealousy feels like when you have someone you want to love and cherish for the rest of your life. As someone who is constantly being talked over and the knowledge that he is everyone's dream man give him a certain confidence and since he is a polite man, he never really lashes out on someone. But he learns quickly that he dislikes it when someone else tries to charm his darling the way he does and that e likes it even less when they react flattered by it. Such experiences never really fail to make him a bit more possessive since it's a brilliant reminder that he wants no one else to steal you away from him.
✨He ensures protection as good as he can, but if his darling is a mage themselves he naturally admires their strength and respects it when they can kick someone's asses all by their own. We did see in the Grand Magic Games that he isn't exactly strong when it comes to brute strength so in that aspect his darling might actually surpass him, but he is smart and great in other things. He has without a doubt his own little fanbase and has influence due to his popularity so it may very well be that he uses this against people he views as serious threats and destroys their reputation just like this. He does this more with people who harrassed the s/o or make their life hard rather than people who try to snatch his darling away and make them theirs. In such cases he rather trusts his own looks and charms.
✨Assuming that he does manage to become his darling's boyfriend, it might be not very likely that they would break up very fast since Hibiki almost appears to be the prefect boyfriend, he's probably just a bit too much. But since Hibiki views the whole reason you two met in the first place as fate he of course doesn't plan on letting his darling leave now that he's found true love. He uses manipulation over violence since he sees himself above such brute methods and in general he prefers blackmailing and bribing over physical force the moment he fails to solve an issue the normal way.
✨It's really not seen as anything serious when he first is seen in public with you, but when it is suddenly made clear soon after that he stopped looking at other women and stopped flirting with every women he's encountering, it's made clear that this is due to his relationship with you. His teammates and Ichiya congratulate him soon after for having found the real passionate love. Hibiki is actually a bit careful around his teammates when you're with him since they are womanizers as well and for that might behave the same with you which does make him jealous a bit. I think he has no real problem being extremely cheesy and romantic with you even in front of others. That guy does give his darling space even if he can be rather clingy from time to time, but if he misses them he tends to try to communicate per telepathy.
Eve Tearm
💛Eve is pretty much alike to Hibiki in this matter. He as well is a semi-delusional Yandere. However, he isn't like Hibiki a more intellectual character yet and different from Hibiki lacks the more serious side. He is younger after all and views that as part of his charm so he has a far more stronger side to himself than Hibiki has. Because Eve falls much more faster in love than Hibiki does and for that has a much more stronger view on destiny and that him and his darling are meant to be. He is protective as well. He might be younger and maybe less experienced than his other friends, but he as well wants to prove his dedication and love to the s/o.
💛Obsessive which should be obvious. What kind of lover would he be if he wouldn't know how to make you happy and how to always surprise you pleasantly. Something that still marks a big difference between him and Hibiki is the fact that Eve actually turns out to be more on the shy side once he's really fallen hard for his darling which is why he at first tends to be a bit more on the stalkerish side before Ichiya, Ren and Hibiki encourage the young man to go for this beaty before someone else takes them away from Eve. That includes them as well, they are womanizers. Eve uses manipulation less than Hibiki does since he is surprisingly bashful, but he will sweet talk things more harmless and appealing if he has too.
💛Eve is less possessive than Hibiki is and overall is less jealous. His darling gets their freedom and can talk to others all they like, he can endure them having friends and spending time with others. He is somewhat more cautios around other members of The Trimens for clear reasons. It isn't like Hibiki and Ren don't respect the fact that yo are Eve's lover, but being charming and flirting with women runs simply through their blood and so they might subconsciously accidentally and up doing just that. Eve of course is respectful with his friends and they understand him and stop quickly as well. In front of strangers flirting he still retains that more mature approach similar to Hibiki, but just like him he shares the dislike of seeing other people being all gentleman and nice to you the same way he is. He's not shy when it comes to making it to others clear that you already have him.
💛Similar to Hibiki he will share the same respect and admiration in case you are a wizard yourself and for that have spells up your own sleeves to fight for yourself, though in case of a sudden battle Eve would like to fight right besides you. Even with his whole soulmate belief Eve still mostly turns away from the idea of killing someone as long as it isn’t an emergency situation. He likes discussing it out as well and in the case that someone does try to cause troubles, you have a guild ready to help you out since Eve naturally won’t let anyone harm you. He can sabotage certain situations as well where odds are put against the person he views as a threat.
💛Assuming that you are part of Blue Pegasus, you two would already spend a lot of time together so there would be no need for him to kidnap you since he constantly hangs around you in the guild, regarding clinginess he can be more extreme than Hibiki is. He is younger and more delusional after all. And since he is seen from everyone in the guild as sie sort of younger brother he would definitely be able to count on their help in case something should have happened that caused you to be mad at him.
💛The wizard, despite higher clinginess, still respects the fact to hold back in public more than Hibiki would. Ren and Hibiki most likely triggered him to go out of his way and talk to his darling way back when he was still a secret admirer and didn’t know how to set up a good scenario and how to talk to them. Has a more submissive nature to him so he would like his darling to be the one to lead this relationship whilst he follows along and does in the meantime things to please them and make them happy. But similar to Hibiki he stops flirting with other women as we for the sake of you.
Ren Akatsuki
🎆Funnily from all three of them, he probably is the most lucid one. But he still only is a semi-aware Yandere to have, he's stained ith the same delusions as his team members. He can view many of his habits as rather unusual and he knows that as well, but in the end his belief in the greater love manages to overcome most of his doubts and insecurities whether he's wrong about his feelings or not. He mostly tries to show his feelings in a more tsunderish form, but in the end he as well is far too much lovestruck to come over as very cold and his darling can tease him greatly for it. From The Trimens he's notably the most possessive Yandere to have.
🎆Protective and manipulative. No matter how cold he may try to act, he'll always defend you from others and save you when you do trip into some issues and even if he complains afterwards that you should have been more careful, he was very worried and that's evident. Ren is subtle about his manipulations as well, mainly because he wants his darling to love him without him having to use bribing and other sorts of lies and tricks, but similar to Eve he will do it when there would be the need for it.
🎆He doesn't get along very well with other men except Ichiya, Hibiki and Eve for the real funny reasons because he views other guys as his rivals in love (don't expect girls to be safe from this either, he'll merely be more polite). And Ren is the most rude about his jealousy because even if he is more embarrassed to show how much he really do loves you, he sure as hell won't have others flirt with you and take you away from him. He's the passive-aggressive type with such people and his feelings for his darling are always made obvious during such times. In front of people like Hibiki and Eve he is less harsh, but it doesn't stop him from shooing them away when they are suddenly all over you as well.
🎆He might just be the one who would be the easiest triggered from all of them to act when someone starts looking more and more like potential troubles for the s/o and the relationship. I would say that with love rivals he wouldn't be violent, more focused on just scaring them away and use threats and warnings to stay away the moment someone becomes very persistent on having his darling. If it comes to people such as bullies or perverts he has a faster way to react because simple flirting isn't anywhere near as worse as being catcalled or otheriwse humiliated. But just like with Hibiki and Eve I really only see him killing someone when the circumstances are very bad and the person turns out to be a possible death sentence for his darling if he doesn't do something. Anything can happen in the heat f a battle.
🎆Despite his tries to come over as a Tsundere, he still spends a lot of time with his darling which kind of blows his cover up, but that really isn't something new. Ren isn't necessarily clingy unless someone triggered his jealousy extremely or recently something bad happened to his darling and for that reason he decides to accompany them for safety reasons. Kidnapping is still something he wouldn't really consider since, as already mentioned, he is the most self-conscious Yandere to have from those three.
🎆How you can tease him about his constant tries to come over as a Tsundere despite easily getting flustered around you is really funny. Ren wants to look cool in front of his darling which means he obviously doesn't want to embarrass himself whilst you're watching so he always tries his best. He cools his interactions with other girls extremely down after he's courted you since he obviously cares about you more than anyone else. He might still fall back into the habit of simple flirting, but he learned his lessons quickly when you had enough of it, avoided him and did the exact same thing with Hibiki and Eve who naturally flirted back. He got quite mad at them afterwards for this, though they only helped you giving Ren a taste of his own medicine.

SPOILER ALERT!!
A date from CN server which hasn’t been released on EN server yet. Might contains some spoiler.
🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁
Exclusive Radio
Xu Mo: A Ming, be more concise when submitting reports in the future. Your ability to refine key points needs to be strengthened.
A Ming: Yes, I understand.
Xu Mo: I'm not in the institute next week and will go to another place.
Xu Mo: If you have anything, you can talk to me over the phone.
Xu Mo: Do you have any other questions?
A Ming: Professor, isn't it... from the media who wanted to interview you again?
A Ming: Recently, there have been more reporters outside the Institute, and they all want to interview you about the Kolavo Prize.
A Ming: Even I feel a little troubled
A Ming: Fortunately, you have chosen this period of time for vacation, which is indeed a good thing.
Xu Mo: Not because of this reason.
Xu Mo: I just think that some time ago, I always seemed to be busy with work. Now is the time to give myself a vacation.
A Ming: Do you just want to take a vacation?
Xu Mo: Do you need other reasons?
A Ming: No, no, I just feel a little surprised.
A Ming: After all, from last year until now, professor has almost never been out of the institute except for normal vacations.
A Ming: I feel like you're all focused on work...
Xu Mo: Maybe it is a bit too immersive.
Xu Mo: So this holiday, I want to spend more time with people around me.
A Ming: Oh, I understand why the professor went to another place for vacation.
A Ming: Don't worry! I will never disturb you! Happy vacation, professor!
Xu Mo: You are now very good at refining the point.
A Ming: Hehe...
Xu Mo: Well, it's a date.
🍁
MIND'S QUEST
The traditional style hotel room is warm and dry.
I changed into a yukata, sat on the tatami, took a deep breath, nervously opened the news that popped up on the phone one-
"The announcement of the Kolavo Prize list has been postponed. Can the genius scientist Xu Mo set the record for the youngest winner?"
The bold and enlarged headlines are very eye-catching.
Postponed? I froze for a moment, and hurriedly clicked on the details to quickly browse.
"... Today, the authoritative awards in the scientific community, the winners of the Kolavo Life Science Award, are about to be announced, which has attracted great attention at home and abroad."
"The innovative work done by the scientist Professor Xu Mo in the field of brain science has therefore become the most popular candidate for the award."
"However, according to relevant sources, the selection criteria for
this year's awards have changed compared with previous years, and it is not ruled out that there will be more powerful competitors."
"The Kolavo Prize official also announced just now. Because of the big differences within the jury, the winner list will be postponed to the afternoon..."
I slid the screen, frowning tighter and tighter. Because I was so focused, I didn't even notice that someone was coming towards me.
??: Why are you still watching these news?
Xu Mo said that he put the blanket in his hand on my lap, and his eyes scanned my phone screen.
Xu Mo: A certain someone invited and told me to take vacation and relax....
Xu Mo: But from the way here to now, you have always stared at your phone from time to time.
He paused, with a little dissatisfaction and grievance in his tone.
Xu Mo: Is Professor Xu in this news more attractive to you than Professor Xu in front of you?
I was stunned for a moment and hurriedly turned off the news interface.
MC: Of course not! I just saw this news and clicked in.
MC: And... I mainly watch the weather forecast.
My eyes wide open, try to make your words more convincing.
MC: You see, the snow is so heavy today, the hotel owner also suggested that we can go to the outdoor hot spring again tomorrow.
MC: However, according to the weather forecast, the snow will decrease later. So maybe there is still a chance!
Xu Mo pondered for a moment, laughed faintly, and nodded.
Xu Mo: Well, it seems I misunderstood. It turns out that you have fully considered it
MC: Of course. It is rare that we all have vacation, but I am looking forward to this trip.
This is indeed the truth.
Lately, Xu Mo and I were so busy that we sometimes didn't even have time to have a meal together.
So this time I chose a hot spring hotel specially, just want to stay in the room with him and spend this time peacefully.
I raised my head, took Xu Mo's hand, and shook it lightly.
MC: You have been busy with scientific research some time ago, and you didn't have much time to rest.
MC: Leave the travel arrangements to me this time, you just need to relax and enjoy.
Xu Mo: Alright.
Xu Mo curled his lips slightly. The thin sunlight from outside the house fell on him, coating him with a soft light.
Xu Mo: Then... I'll leave it to you?
MC: Hm! Leave it to me.
I glanced at the time on my phone, my heart moved, and then I gathered my mind and raised my head and said to Xu Mo.
MC: Now that the luggage has been put away, go and change your clothes!
Xu Mo nodded and walked towards the door. I took the opportunity to secretly pick up the phone, intending to continue reading the news that I just turned off.
Xu Mo: By the way, there is one more thing.
MC: Wh- What?
Unexpectedly, Xu Mo suddenly turned around, and I quickly hid the phone behind me with a guilty conscience.
Xu Mo's eyes flicked back and forth between the phone and me. He seemed to have something to say, but he just chuckled.
Xu Mo: Nothing, just want to tell you...
Xu Mo: This trip with you, I also look forward to it very much.
While Xu Mo was changing clothes, I quietly walked outside the door. As I planned, a waiter came here on time with a rectangular wooden box.
Waiter: Miss MC, the lady boss asked me to give you this. Please keep it.
Waiter: As for the other item you ordered, because it needs to be made right now, the snow is too big for the driver to drive down the mountain to get it. Please forgive me.
MC: It’s okay, you've work hard, so please tell my thanks to the boss.
I took the wooden box in her hand and returned to the room, with a burst of complicated emotions in my heart.
This is a gift I prepared before I set off. Originally, I had calculated the time and planned to give Xu Mo a surprise when the results of the Kolavo Prize came out.
But I did not expect that due to changes in the selection criteria, the announcement of the award list was delayed, which disrupted my original plan.
I looked at the wooden box in my hand, and a result I had rarely imagined before popped up in my head, just in case...
The heart sank little by little. It seems that it is still unknown whether this celebration can be conveyed to him...
Xu Mo: What are you thinking?
I followed the sound and felt a little startled.
Xu Mo was wearing a dark yukata with a large collarbone exposed under the loose collar.
He relaxed, leaning against the door frame, and he looked a little more casual and relax.
His eyes fell on the wooden box in my hand, showing some curiosity.
Xu Mo: What is this?
MC: Well, this is...
Just as I was thinking about how to explain to him, a ringtone interrupted our conversation.
Xu Mo: ....Yes?
Xu Mo: ....Hello?
Xu Mo's tone was light, but his expression was a little more serious. The news that I just saw on my phone flashed in my mind, I couldn't help feeling a burst of tension in my heart.
Xu Mo: I'm sorry, I'm on vacation, I'm afraid I don't have time for this.
Xu Mo: Next time you have the opportunity to cooperate again.
After he said this lightly, he hung up the phone. I was caught off guard by the crisp and clean action.
Perhaps seeing me looking at him in confusion, Xu Mo said first without waiting for me to speak.
Xu Mo: It's the call from Huanqiu Weekly.
I opened my eyes slightly.
Huanqiu Weekly is an established weekly magazine in China. It mainly reports on international issues and major events. All have great influence within the scope.
MC: Do they want to cooperate with you?
Xu Mo: Well, they want to give me an interview.
MC: Really?! Isn't that great!
Hearing news that I was not worried about, I couldn't help but let go, and placed the wooden box on the closet next to it.
MC: Such an influential weekly magazine, if you accept their invitation, you can let more people know about your research results.
Xu Mo was stunned for a moment, and the corners of his lips curled upwards.
Xu Mo: Why do you want more people to know?
MC: Because...maybe for many people, your scientific research results are just a bunch of technical terms that seem very obscure.
MC: But I know, a lot of your hard work has been condensed behind it.
MC: Even with the aura of a "genius scientist" above your head, your effort and persistence are no less than anyone else.
As I spoke, the moments that I had experienced with him flashed in my mind.
He will put the experimental reports that have spent months of energy into the shredder one by one just because of a certain data error;
Because I finally got the desired result, I was so happy that I could not hide it, and even some childishly suggested that I wanted to go to a movie with him to celebrate.
I smiled at Xu Mo and said to him in a joking tone.
MC: So, I want to be rewarded for your efforts. This is probably my selfish intention.
Xu Mo looked at me quietly, and a certain soft emotion melted in his eyes bit by bit. After a while, he suddenly chuckled helplessly.
Xu Mo: Silly.
He stretched out his hand and took me into his arms.
Xu Mo: I declined the invitation.
MC: Huh? Why?
Xu Mo did not answer, but chuckled lightly.
Xu Mo: Do you want to know what my selfishness is?
Xu Mo: Although you always tease me about my time and energy as if I can't use it up, in fact they are also limited.
Xu Mo: I have to stay and spend them on the person who are most important to me.
He paused, rubbing the top of my hair with his chin.
Xu Mo: This is our vacation, of course I just want to share it with you.
My heart seemed to be hit by something. Feeling his familiar body temperature, I only feel that the slightest warmth suddenly enters my heart.
I couldn't help but put my hand around Xu Mo's back, eagerly trying to get closer to him and let this moment stay longer.
MC: Yes, me too.
Looking across the wooden box on the cabinet, I closed my eyes and gradually made a decision in my heart.
🍁
MC: Xu Mo, the belt of your yukata seems a little loose
I saw that Xu Mo had a loose belt around his waist, so I subconsciously reached out to help him tidy it.
MC: This seems doesn’t work...
MC: Let me tie a knot for you again!
After speaking, I undid Xu Mo's belt again, planning to tie it again.
Xu Mo: It seems that you are already very skilled.
Xu Mo's voice with a smile rang in my ears.
I raised my head and met his gaze. Only then did I realize how close we are now.
MC: W-well, when the waiter helped me wear it, I learned a little bit from her.
MC: Moreover, the way that girls wear yukata is more complicated than the boys.
MC: So it's not very difficult to tie your belt.
I lowered my head, trying to hide my blushing cheeks.
Xu Mo: It turned out to be so.
Xu Mo nodded, then opened his arms and let me put his cloth.
Although I tried my best to concentrate on the movements in my hands, the sniffles on my neck still made me a little distracted.
The delicate atmosphere filled us, I pursed my lips, and when I was about to say something, Xu Mo spoke first.
Xu Mo: I didn't notice just now that there are still a few lines written on the hanging paintings here.
MC: Eh?
I looked up and followed his gaze to the wall behind me, where there were traditional paintings one by one.
The red leaves all over the sky fell on the clear spring water, like flames burning in clusters, smeared with warmth and warmth.
I didn't pay much attention when I entered the room before, but now I look closer and realize that there are still words written on it.
Just when I was about to identify it carefully, Xu Mo had already read it out softly.
Xu Mo: " The long-lasting God is acting on behalf you, and I never heard of it"
(“悠悠神代事,黯黯不曾闻” Yōuyōu shéndài shì, àn àn bùcéng wén)
Xu Mo: " The maple dyed the Long Tian River, gurgling and flowing deep"
(“枫染龙田川,潺潺流水深 ” fēng rǎn lóng tiánchuān, chánchán liúshuǐ shēn)
Notes: I put the original sentence of the poem, afraid that there’s mistranslation since I’m not familiar with it.
MC: I seem to have read these sentences before...
MC: It seems to come from a very famous love song?
I turned my face and looked at Xu Mo with a questioning look. He nodded lightly.
Xu Mo: Well, it is indeed a very emotional sentence.
Xu Mo: I think it is probably because Valentine's Day is approaching. In order to set off the atmosphere, the proprietress of the hotel arranged such a hanging picture in the room.
Xu Mo: And look at the writing above, it should have been added not long ago.
Hearing Xu Mo's explanation, I looked at the hanging painting again.
MC: I didn’t expect the proprietress of this hotel to be so careful, I thought it was just a landscape painting.
MC: It turns out that there is such a “careful” chance hidden.
I tried to felt the emotions contained in the lines. This painting, which was originally used for decoration, seems to have a deeper meaning because of this poem.
Just as my attention was all attracted by the hanging paintings, Xu Mo's voice suddenly rang in my ears.
Xu Mo: Although the painting is really beautiful
Xu Mo: But, have you forgotten something?
His gaze fell on the belt in my hand, and I followed along and realized that I was still finishing Xu Mo's yukata.
His yukata was hanging loosely on his body at this time, and it was even more exposed. The low neckline is wider, and the skin is exposed.
The heat on my face couldn't help but rise a little more.
MC: .. I will continue!
After finally suppressing the fast heartbeat and refastening Xu Mo's belt, I couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.
I raised my hand to help him straighten the low neckline, but found that this yukata was actually designed like this.
MC: Is this, this neckline originally opened so wide?
Hearing my visibly smaller voice, Xu Mo first glanced at his clothes, then a clear smile spread across his mouth.
Xu Mo: Well, that's it when I put it on.
Xu Mo: Moreover, as far as I know, the men's yukatas offered by this store are all of this style.
MC: Strange, I saw that the model wears on the official website before...
MC: Is this also what "Valentine's Day Special Offer"?
In order to cover up my inner fluctuations, I deliberately said in a ridiculous tone, and Xu Mo also chuckled cooperatively.
Xu Mo: Well, it is possible.
He blinked, as if thinking of something, then bent down and leaned in my ear and said softly.
Xu Mo: I guess..
Xu Mo: This is probably, a little bit “careful”.
🍁
On the tatami, Xu Mo and I are sitting opposite each other.
He took the sake out of the wooden box, opened the cork, and slowly poured it into a special vessel.
Xu Mo: No wonder today I saw you and the hotel owner whispered a few secretly...
Xu Mo: Why do you suddenly want to give me a gift?
My heart moved slightly, but on the surface, I still took the stubbornly.
MC: It's not a sudden intention, this is part of the arrangement of this vacation.
MC: Take it as a reward for Professor Xu who worked hard this year!
Wanting to get around this topic as soon as possible, I pointed to the Sake bottle and looked at him invitingly.
MC: I heard that this brand of sake is well-known locally.
MC: I was worried that it was too popular, but I asked the proprietress to order it from the Sake store half a month in advance!
A smile filled Xu Mo's narrow eyes.
Xu Mo: In order to live up to your intentions, I have to taste it.
After speaking, he picked up the Sake glass and took a sip.
MC: How?
Xu Mo: It has a slight sweet taste and is delicious.
MC: That's good! A drink in the snow can warm your body.
Suddenly, my mind flashed through the scenes of Xu Mo drinking before and couldn't help but add.
And its degree is not high. You can rest assured that you won't get drunk if you drink in moderation.
Xu Mo raised his eyebrows.
Xu Mo: It seems that I have been underestimated.
He seemed to inadvertently pour some more Sake into the glass, and then drank the whole glass leisurely.
Xu Mo: I have been tried sake before, but I was not drunk.
MC: I remember I heard you mentioned it on the phone.
Hearing him mention it again, a sense of curiosity arose in my heart.
In my impression, Xu Mo almost never drinks alcohol, but prefers tea.
MC: Why did you suddenly want to drink?
Xu Mo: Well... let me think about it.
Xu Mo put down his Sake glass, propped his head with one hand, and looked up at the red leaves in the courtyard behind me.
Xu Mo: It was when I was studying. In order to celebrate the project with the classmates.
MC: Huh?
Xu Mo: Feeling surprised?
Xu Mo's eyes overlapped with me for a moment, and then he continued.
Xu Mo: At that time, I cooperated with my classmates on a very challenging scientific research project. After about a year and a half of research, I finally got the ideal result.
Perhaps thinking of the scene at that time, Xu Mo sighed softly.
Xu Mo: They were so happy that they had to take me to the tavern to celebrate...
Xu Mo said helplessly, but the corners of his mouth curled up unconsciously.
I rarely seem to see him celebrating his achievements, and the temporarily suppressed thought in my heart is revivedㅡ
I also want to accompany him to celebrate and witness the moment when his efforts bear fruit.
Chaotic emotions spread across my chest: anticipation, tension, and a little anxiety...
Xu Mo: Wandering again.
Xu Mo tapped my forehead. I recovered, and smiled apologetically at Xu Mo.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, and after looking at me for a while, he suddenly spoke.
Xu Mo: I suddenly remembered that they also taught me a game at that time.
MC: What game?
Xu Mo: I will show it to you.
I watched with interest as Xu Mo picked up an empty cup and put it upside down on the table.
Xu Mo: The game is very simple. We take turns to pat this cup or choose to take it away.
Xu Mo: If the cup is taken away, the other person will make a fist and knock on the table. Knock on the cup or shoot on the table is a loss.
MC: This game seems to test the reaction ability...
Seeing me as if I don’t understand, Xu Mo smiled.
Xu Mo: Well, but it is not difficult. You should have learned it after we played a game.
Xu Mo: Want to try it?
MC: Yes!
I eagerly nodded my head. Xu Mo's eyes turned, and a meaningful smile appeared on his lips.
MC: ....
MC: This unscientific!
I took another sip of Sake in frustration. Facts have proved that the so-called "not difficult" of this game may only be aimed at Xu Mo.
In addition to testing his reaction ability, during the game, he always seems to know what I am going to do next, and foresee every movement of me in advance...
MC: You are almost like "mind reading"...
Faced my complaint, Xu Mo just smiled slightly
Xu Mo: Maybe it's just because I know you too well.
Xu Mo: So sometimes, your every move seems not to hard to guess .
He didn't seem to realize how blushing his words were, so I had to mutter quietly.
MC: This is too unfair...
Xu Mo: Well, you also try to focus all your attention on me, how about it?
MC: Huh?
Xu Mo dragged his face with his hands, tilted his head and looked at me.
Xu Mo: Perhaps this strategy will be more effective.
The heartbeat speeded up uncontrollably, and for a while, I couldn't tell whether he was teasing me or was serious.
But facing the current one-sided game situation, for the slight possibility of a comeback, I decided to try.
The new round soon began. I followed Xu Mo's words and stared at him intensively, hoping to see a trace of flaws in him.
And Xu Mo's mouth always had a slight smile, as if he was in a good mood.
It was my turn to take the cup. I noticed that Xu Mo's brows suddenly wrinkled. With a movement in my heart, I decided to change my tactics and took the cup away.
MC: ...!!
Xu Mo: I lost.
Xu Mo looked at our folded hands on the cup and sighed slightly
Xu Mo: It seems that I was too careless...
Xu Mo: This strategy should not be told to you lightly.
His voice showed faint grievances and regrets, and then he took the Sake and drank it in one go.
MC: Is it really so works?
I was a little dazed by the sudden victory.
Although I'm not sure if there is a reason for luck, I just raised my lips and jumped for joy when I finally caught this flawless person.
Next, the entire game seemed to be exceptionally smooth to me. I didn't expect that one day I could win Xu Mo so many times, and the smile on my face got bigger and bigger.
Until Xu Mo was fined another glass of Sake, looking at his reddish ears and the corners of his mouth, I suddenly noticed something.
I put away my smile and walked up to him, acting as if I was asking my sins.
MC: I almost fell for some big liar again!
Xu Mo's eyes moved slightly, and then he stretched out his hand towards me.
Xu Mo: What's wrong?
He looked at me and blinked a bit innocently.
Xu Mo: Why are you so angry? Did I do something wrong?
I laughed angrily by the way he knew it, and couldn't help squeezing his hand.
MC: Are you letting me win again?
Xu Mo did not answer immediately, but gently hooked my finger, and then wrapped it into his palm.
Xu Mo: Who said I let you?
Xu Mo: I am willing to lose to you.
He stretched out his hand, scraped the tip of my nose, and a smile burst out from the corner of his mouth.
Xu Mo: Finally I can see you smile without burden.
MC: Huh?
Xu Mo: From morning on, you look worried.
Xu Mo: Although I plan to not ask too much before you tell me. But I thought about it, it’s not easy to keep you in my heart
Xu Mo: I guess the thing that bothers you should have something to do with me, right
He thought a little bit.
Xu Mo: Was it the news you saw this morning?
Seeing Xu Mo's determined expression and thinking about his behavior just now, I suddenly understood something in my heart.
MC: So you proposed to play games with me, also to relax me?
MC: I can't hide anything from you
Xu Mo chuckled lightly, wrapped my hand into his palm, and deliberately asked in a joking tone.
Xu Mo: Tell me about it, how did the "Professor Xu" on the news bother you?
I was amused by him. Seeing that what was hidden in my heart had been exposed, I simply decided to confess.
MC: Actually... This bottle of sake was originally a gift to celebrate your prize. But I did not expect that the award list would be postponed.
MC: Although I still want to celebrate with you, but if the result is not good, I worry about you will be disappointed.
MC: So it has not been said.
After saying this, I took a long breath and felt that it was a lot easier.
MC: But now I also think that compared to these, we should cherish our time together more.
In order to show my determination, I picked up the phone on the table and turned it off without hesitation.
MC: Now I can't get distracted!
Xu Mo's eyes flickered, and then he turned off the phone just like me. He put his arms around my waist and raised his head slightly.
Xu Mo: Then we can say that, from now on, don't let anyone bothering us.
Xu Mo: Nobody can.
Seeing him add another sentence seriously, I couldn't help laughing.
MC: However, it is indeed my fault that I was always distracted before. Next, we can make up for this time.
Xu Mo: Hm? How do you plan to make up?
I looked outside and raised my eyebrows at him.
MC: Didn't you notice? The snow outside is getting smaller.
Xu Mo was a little puzzled, but he reacted quickly, and the corners of his lips curled up in a beautiful arc.
Outside the house, the original heavy snow in the sky turned into fragments of snowflakesㅡ
It fell lightly in the hot spring that was continuously rising, and melted silently.
After eating, Xu Mo and I were walking on the stone road in the courtyard. We could hear the gurgling water in our ears.
MC: It seems that the weather forecast is right, the snow is really much smaller.
Xu Mo: Hmm, but are you drunk? Actually, we can come later.
MC: Don't worry, I am fully awake.
MC: And I checked it online before, and two hours after a meal is the best time to soak in the hot spring!
Xu Mo just wanted to say something, but suddenly stopped. He stared at the hot spring pool in front of him, and his eyes flashed with surprise.
I followed his gaze to the open-air hot spring in front, and my eyes widened.
MC: This is...
I was surprised to find that there is no barrier between this private hot spring surrounded by stones.
🍁
MC: Strange, I clearly remember that the pictures I saw on the website before were separated by wooden boards.
I looked at the hot spring pool, my ears were getting hot. Thinking of two people in the same hot spring, I can't help but feel a subtle sense of tension.
Just when I was about to say something to break the awkward atmosphere, Xu Mo's voice suddenly sounded.
Xu Mo: .. I'd better go back to the room first.
Xu Mo: I'll come back when you finish.
MC: Hm?
I subconsciously raised my head. Xu Mo still had a gentle expression, but his eyes did not look at me.
Is it...
Am I the not only one who is nervous?
Looking at the steaming hot spring, I involuntarily swallowed my saliva, emboldening myself in my heart.
MC: Now that you have changed your clothes... let's go together.
In the hot spring pool, Xu Mo was sitting opposite me, the water just covered our chests
Xu Mo: Does the water feel hot?
I looked up, my eyes swam disobediently from his bare chest to the collarbone, Adam's apple and thin lips, and then I didn't dare to go up again.
MC: No, just right.
I shook my head, suppressed the excessively fast heartbeat, and sat down a little bit, submerged my shoulders in the warm water, and couldn't help but sigh.
The snowflakes fell on the face one by one, bringing icy coldness sense of touch, but the body and mind are steaming hot, and finally melts in the heat.
Xu Mo flicked his hand across the hot spring, and there was a sporadic sound of water. He closed his eyes, raised his head and leaned against the rock wall.
Xu Mo: I suddenly remembered that the last time we took a hot spring, it was the same as today with snow in the sky.
MC: Well, I remember too.
There was a movement in my heart, and I couldn't help but remember the time when I wished Xu Mo's birthday a warm feeling came from the bottom of my heart.
MC: It seems that many of my good memories about the snowy days are spent with you.
Xu Mo slowly opened his eyes, and there was also a layer of chlorinated water vapor on his eyes, and the curvature of the corners of his lips seemed clear and moving.
Xu Mo: For me, it's not just the snow.
The gurgling water and his voice merged together, and fell into my ears through the mist.
Under Xu Mo's gentle gaze, it seems that the distant memories in my mind are being warmed up little by little.
Perhaps he had been watching for too long, and my throat was a little dry. My gaze fell to the side of the tray floating on the water, which was filled with wagashi and hot tea.
Wagashi are traditional Japanese confections that are often served with green tea, especially the types made of mochi, anko and fruits.
I picked up the teacup and took a drink. Obviously it's not alcohol, but it makes me feel a little drunk.
I patted my slightly hot face, trying to stretch my body, but my foot inadvertently touched Xu Mo's leg.
Xu Mo: ....
MC: .....
The breath and heartbeat went wild in an instant. In the pool water, it seems that every part of the body has become more sensitive.
I subconsciously looked at Xu Mo, his eyes flickered, and then faintly looked away, and picked up another teacup on the tray.
Xu Mo: The tea smell is very strong.
MC: Hm..
MC: This opportunities are rare. Why don't we "replace Sake with tea" and clink a glass?
As soon as I finished speaking, I bit my tongue viciously for the proposal I blurted out.
Xu Mo's hand holding the teacup seemed to shake. He looked at my red cheeks curiously and chuckled uncontrollably.
Xu Mo: Well, it's a good proposal, but...
Xu Mo: Clinking glasses is usually for celebration. What are we going to celebrate now?
I was asked all of a sudden. While thinking, an idea flashes over my mind.
MC: To celebrate...
Xu Mo: If you say anything like "Celebrate your winning in advance", I will be a little disappointed.
MC: Ha..
This person definitely has mind-reading skills!
I looked at Xu Mo's smiling eyes through the white mist, and my lips curled up.
The fine snow slowly fell, and the water in the pool was clear, but not as bright as his eyes. I suddenly felt everything in front of me, something unreal like a dream.
Such a good person is now opposite me, right in front of my eyes, drinking a tea with me and sharing the same snowy color.
Until I saw Xu Mo's eyes clearly reflecting my figure. I suddenly felt that this moment has already surpassed everything.
So I said almost subconsciously.
MC: Then celebrate the moment we have.
Under the misty surface of xenon hydrogen, the skin we touched lightly rubbed inadvertently.
The clear touch brought up bursts of electric current, causing ripples in my heart. I no longer stagger my eyes as before, but quietly stare at Xu Mo in front of me.
His Adam's apple slid, and a white warm mist made his dark eyes sparkle with water.
I suddenly had an illusion, as if Xu Mo could look straight into my heart through the hazy mist.
After a while, he chuckled lightly.
Xu Mo: Is it just for now?
MC: What?
Xu Mo didn't answer, but suddenly got up and leaned toward me. The chest that had been submerged was also exposed at this time.
The warm and slightly hot from hot springs steamed his skin a little red, and the water rippled and then fell again.
I touched the ground with my feet a little nervously, but a little unstable due to the buoyancy of the water, Xu Mo held my waist with one hand in time.
I raised my head and slowly looked at the line of Xu Mo's jaw, my fingertips sinking into the tight muscles behind his shoulders.
His hand slid across my back, tightening me up a little bit, and I unconsciously put my hand on his shoulder and against his chest.
MC: Xu Mo..
The light lines of the water wave healed our chest and back. Xu Mo lowered his head, his lips were close to my ears, his voice was stained with a low voice.
Xu Mo: What I want to say is, not just celebrating this moment. But...
Xu Mo: For every moment we have.
There seemed to be a touch of nothing on the earlobe, as if clusters of flames were lit from there.
The tea cups collided with a crisp sound.
Xu Mo took a sip of tea, pinched my chin and pressed it down
Seeing his face getting closer and closer, I can no longer care about the others, I can only instinctively close my eyes
Feel the numb touch on the lips, and the sweet tea fragrance reverberating in the mouth.
🍁
With a splash of water, Xu Mo got up and walked out of the hot spring pool.
Xu Mo: During the meal, our clothes were left out and dampened by the snow. I will go back to the room to get the clothes we changed in the morning.
MC: Wait, I'll go with you.
After I finished speaking, I stood up, Xu Mo stood there, his eyes stopped slightly when he looked at me.
I followed his eyes and looked down, the wet towels were tight clings to my body, clearly outlines the lines, dripping continuously.
A cold wind blew, and I seemed to have noticed something, so I hurriedly sat back.
MC: So cold...
Xu Mo laughed lightly, then nodded.
Xu Mo: Well, it will be a little cold if you just walk back.
Xu Mo: So, wait for me here, okay?
I touched my slightly hot cheek, smiled and nodded at him.
MC: Alright
When Xu Mo returned with the clothes, I was eating the wagashi on the tray. He couldn't help but smile when he saw me.
Xu Mo: Are you hungry?
MC: A little. You see, these fruits are so delicate.
I pushed the tray towards him, Xu Mo squatted down and looked carefully.
Xu Mo: Well, indeed.
Xu Mo: I once heard a very skilled master say that wagashi can express anything, whether it is natural or human.
MC: Really?
Hearing his words, I put my arm on the rock beside the pool and curiously observed the wagashi in the plate.
MC: This is a special wagashi for Valentine's Day. I don't know if there is anything special.
Xu Mo: I think there should be.
Xu Mo also leaned down slightly and observed with me.
Xu Mo: Maybe we can guess by using our imagination?
He smiled and twisted one of the wagashi.
It looks relatively ordinary among the different shapes of fruits. The round shape is like a small steamed bun, but on the top. Covered with a circle of yellow marks.
Xu Mo: The surface of this fruit should be deliberately roasted to brown
After watching it for a while, Xu Mo handed it to me.
Xu Mo: Did you think of something?
MC: Hmm.. the yellow circle.
MC: Like a full moon?
I raised my eyes to look at Xu Mo, and he curled his mouth slightly, motioning me to continue.
As if being woken up, I looked at this seemingly inconspicuous wagashi, and seemed to understand the intention of the person who made it.
MC: The moon is a very important image in love and can be used to express many kinds of emotions...
MC: So it seems that this fruit really fits the theme of Valentine's Day.
Xu Mo: Have a taste?
Looking at Xu Mo's eyebrows, my heart moved slightly, so I leaned over and bit the fruit in his hand.
The sweetness melted in my mouth, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the red fillings of the wagashi under the white skin.
MC: It's red bean paste...
There seemed to be a trace of surprise in Xu Mo's eyes. After a while, he nodded thoughtfully.
Xu Mo: Specially choose red as the filling...
Xu Mo: Probably because the person who created it wanted to express the sincere emotions between lovers.
MC: It turns out that wagashi can really express people's feelings...
Seeing such an emotional Japanese fruit, a burst of soft emotions creeping in my heart, I subconsciously asked Xu Mo.
MC: You have a bite too?
As soon as I finished speaking, I suddenly remembered something, so I immediately changed my words.
MC: But you don’t like sweets so much, so it’s mine!
I stretched out my hand to take the wagashi from his hand, but Xu Mo suddenly pulled his hand
MC: Uh?
Seeing my puzzlement, he chuckled lightly.
Xu Mo: I really don't like sweets very much.
Xu Mo: However, I still want to taste such beautiful food.
MC: But...
Before I finished speaking, I saw Xu Mo's face enlarged before my eyes.
He put his hand behind my head and leaned down. In the blink of an eye, there was a warmth on the lips.
The scorching breath fell on the face, itching and numb, dispelling the coolness in the air.
The thick snow on the edge of the pool turned into melted water droplets and fell into the water, arousing small splashes.
After a long while, Xu Mo released his hand behind my head, with a slight smile on his mouth.
Xu Mo: Well, it's sweeter than expected.
🍁
After soaking in the hot springs, Xu Mo and I walked slowly back to the room. As soon as we opened the door, we stopped in unison.
A fancy "citation cake" was placed in the center of the table.
Under the two big letters "Certificate" written with red chocolate, there are also dark chocolates with a row of small letters one by one.
"Best Scientist Award".
Xu Mo raised his eyebrows and glanced at me leisurely. I coughed slightly awkwardly.
MC: Ahem. If I said that the waiter sent the wrong room, would you believe it?
At this time, the door was pushed open again, and the waiter put two knives and forks on the side of the tray.
Waiter: Miss MC, you are back, is the hot spring still comfortable?
Waiter: This is the special cake you ordered. Because the snow was a little smaller, the driver was asked to go down the mountain to retrieve it. Please enjoy.
The waiter cast a "won't disturb you" look, then bowed and walked out. After a short silence, I heard a chuckle.
MC: Well. This is actually another gift I originally prepared to celebrate your winning.
MC: I always feel that at this time of celebration, we still have to eat cakes to have more atmosphere.
MC: Although the appearance is a bit exaggerate, the taste should be good.
Xu Mo chuckled and nodded.
Xu Mo: Well, I believe this cake must be delicious. and.….
Xu Mo: I am also sure that you really care about this.
He paused for a while, then took out his mobile phone leisurely and turned it on.
Xu Mo: Since you want to know so much, let's watch it together.
MC: What?
Xu Mo: Don’t you really want to know the results of the awards? I remember the news you saw in the morning saying that the announcement should be postponed to the afternoon.
Xu Mo: The time should be right now.
MC: But...
Seeing his calm movements, my eyes widened, but I looked more nervous than him.
Xu Mo: If you don't let you know now, you will keep thinking about it.
As soon as his voice fell, with a few minutes of reminder sound, countless messages flooded into Xu Mo's phone.
Looking at his cell phone that kept vibrating, my heartbeat speeded up. Xu Mo seemed to be a little surprised by it.
Xu Mo: A Ming, sent fifteen text messages and made six calls.
He frowned slightly.
Xu Mo: It seems that I told him to be good at "focusing" things, but he doesn't take it seriously.
MC: ....
MC: I also question the way you "focusing" at this time!
Xu Mo tapped the screen twice until everything was calm again, but there was no expression on his face.
MC: How?
I looked at him with anticipation and ambition.
After a moment of silence, Xu Mo suddenly leaned over to me, buried his head in the socket of my neck, and let out a light sigh.
Xu Mo: ....
My heart jumped suddenly.
MC: No, it doesn't matter...
I just feel my brain is blank, and my words become stumbling.
MC: It may be because the selection criteria have changed this year. They have to take other factors into consideration.
MC: And this is their loss! You are so powerful, they will definitely regret it in the future!
Xu Mo: Is it?
MC: Yes!
I replied categorically, as I was about to continue speaking, but suddenly caught a murmur of laughter, and then I was surprised that something was wrong.
MC: .. Why are you lying again!
I straightened up from Xu Mo's arms at once, but he grabbed my wrist with a smile, and pulled it into his embrace again.
Xu Mo: Where am I lying.
Xu Mo: It seems unfair to say that.
Xu Mo: I didn't seem to say what the result was.
Seeing the successful smile in his eyes, I bit my lip unwillingly. After thinking for a while, I had an idea, pretending to be angrily and got into the blanket beside me.
Although the news of Xu Mo's award made the corners of my mouth almost fly into the sky, I still constricted my smile and adjusted my tone of voice.
MC: I'm so nervous, but you still want to tease me!
MC: Originally, apart from Sake and cake, I also prepared a third gift for you. Now I have to consider it!
The low laughter in the ear was suddenly paused.
I secretly laughed and counted down silently in my heart, 3, 2, 1 until the last number fell, I really felt a pair of hands hugging me from behind.
Xu Mo: Sorry, because you looked so cute just now, I couldn't help but want to tease you.
Xu Mo: So, can you tell me what the gift is now?
Xu Mo waited for a while, but when he saw that I still didn't answer, he suddenly coughed.
Xu Mo: (cough)
Xu Mo: It seems to have been outside for too long and some have caught a cold
I listened to Xu Mo's deliberate coughing. I was startled first, and then laughed uncontrollably. I didn't expect him to think of such a childish way.
Hear my laugh, Xu Mo also laughed.
The arms around my waist tightened a bit, and when he spoke again, his tone became more serious.
Xu Mo: MC.
Xu Mo: Actually, I don't value this award that much.
My heart beats, this is the first time I heard him say that
Xu Mo: Because all the things I wanted to obtain were obtained the moment the research results were published, or even earlier.
Xu Mo: Any praise from the outside world, to me, is nothing but brocade icing on.
His voice paused, as if thinking of something, and then he smiled softly.
Xu Mo: However, everything you did for me today, I am very happy
Xu Mo: Whether it is a gift to me or your sincere words to me, I really feel how important I am in your heart.
Xu Mo rubbed my forehead with his chin across the blanket
Xu Mo: I feel happy, nervous, or even sad from the bottom of my heart
Xu Mo: Probably there is only you silly girl.
The soft words fell in my heart, and there was a drop of water.
Xu Mo: I think the reason why I always can't help teasing you, maybe it's just because I want to see you more and show off because of me.
Xu Mo: In a certain way, I can also be regarded as a special "collector".
Xu Mo: No matter what kind of meal it is, I want to have it.
Xu Mo: With that said, can you forgive me?
The delicate tenderness was sewn on him slightly, I still did not answer, but responded to him with action.
I lifted the blanket and kissed Xu Mo's face with his surprised eyes.
I ran my fingers across his fine hair and stopped on his face. Then I pulled him tightly and tightly toward me.
Heavy breathing sounded in the room, as if confused, I kissed his cheek closely and pressed against his auricle.
MC: I am not angry, you are a fool..
I followed his ear bones all the way down, and after hearing a short gasp, I turned to a thin rub.
I don't know how long it took. When I met Xu Mo's eyes awkwardly, I later realized that I was extremely ashamed of my bold actions, and subconsciously shrank back.
But Xu Mo did not allow me to retreat. He put his hands on my waist together a few inches, pressed them to my forehead, and looked at me deeply with his eyes.
Xu Mo: Is this the third gift?
The thin, hot breath entangled, I panted lightly and shook my head.
MC: ....It is a promise.
I calmed down my breath and slowly said the words that had been brewing in my heart for a long time.
MC: I want to wait for the results to come out, whether you win or not, I will tell youㅡ
MC: In the future, I will stay with you and spend every memorable moment with you.
MC: Remember the flower with crystals you gave me?
MC: I think the same as you, every moment we walked together is very precious to me
MC: Although I can't make such a romantic gift like you, I can only express it in ordinary sounds.
MC: But this is my truest thought.
The evening wind slowly passed by, and behind Xu Mo, the sky full of red leaves fell. I felt in a daze that we at this moment are closer than ever.
Xu Mo lowered his eyes, looked straight at me for a moment, and laughed a little.
Xu Mo: MC's ability to talk about love is really getting better.
My cheeks suddenly became red when I met the narrow gaze in his eyes.
MC: I'm just talking to my heart!
Xu Mo: Yes, I know.
Xu Mo: I don't think what you said is ordinary. On the contrary, it means a lot to me.
Xu Mo: However, although I received such a beautiful promise, I thought about it for a while-
Xu Mo: When you say this, aren't you also sorting me out?
MC: !... I
Seeing that I was speechless for a while, Xu Mo smiled, his eyes moved down, and landed on my slightly opened lips. The emotion in the deep eyes is unclear.
Xu Mo: Sometimes actions are more explicit than words.
He raised his hand and squatted down my lips with his fingers,
Xu Mo: The sincerity contained in the promise, maybe in another way... can make me feel more directly.
He whispered, and suddenly raised his eyes to look at me, dark light circling in his eyes.
Xu Mo: Are you willing to?
The heat surged to my cheeks, and my mind was chaotic. In the next second, Xu Mo clasped my wrist tightly and pressed me on the tatami.
MC: Wh-
The soft tip of the tongue pried my teeth away inch by inch, and grinds together delicately and long. It seems to wear out all the heat and lingering.
While my consciousness was cloudy, I tasted the faint fragrance of tea that still remained in his mouth, but it was like a very high alcohol wine, which made me feel drunk.
His head raised passively. Xu Mo squinted his eyes slightly, and gradually reduced his strength by pressing my hand.
His fingers rubbed the skin on the side of my wrist gently and slowly, letting my body gradually relax
The surrounding temperature rose sharply, and I instinctively caught his neck and responded to his tossing and turning.
Just when I felt a little dizzy, Xu Mo let go of me, a familiar chuckle sounded in my ears.
Seeing that I was a little weak, Xu Mo held my waist and let me sit on him.
I rested on his strong abs with one hand, and grasped his messy clothes with the other weakly.
MC: Xu Mo....
I lowered my head and saw what seemed to be suppressed in his gloomy eyes, so I subconsciously leaned down and pecked his chin.
Xu Mo: ....
The light and shadow in Xu Mo's eyes flickered, his eyes darkened.
Before I could react, his hand that was touching my hair suddenly pulled me towards him and kissed me again.
Unlike before, this kiss was overwhelmingly aggressive.
The tingling sensation of the intertwined lips and teeth ran through my body like an electric current, and the blood seemed to boil.
With warmth in Xu Mo's palm, he shook all the way down my spine.
His senses and thoughts were all occupied by him, and in a trance, I felt the kiss gradually slip and strengthen.
There was a slight tingling pain from my collarbone, and I couldn't help but exhale softly, and there was a warm and humid touch.
A layer of fine sweat oozes out on the tightly adhering skin, giving it an intimate and sticky feeling. I inserted my hand into Xu Mo's sweat-drenched hair and looked down at him.
He closed his eyes, his concentrated face was stained with the color of red leaves.
His sight seemed to be burned to the point of nowhere to rest.
Perhaps because of my tension, Xu Mo's lips bend slightly. He lifted his palm up to cover my eyes.
Xu Mo: Close your eyes .
Extremely strong, but with extreme gentleness.
I slowly closed my eyes and surrendered myself to him. The last image remaining on the retina is Xu Mo deep eyes.
And a brilliant red.

How would you react if someone close to you found out you enjoy Diabolik Lovers and then accused you of glorifying Laito’s actions by drawing fan art of him? I don’t think it is shameful to enjoy fiction with themes of abuse as long as one can differentiate between fiction and reality and right and wrong, but I was just wondering if you think it is worth ending a whole friendship because of this dispute. My friends think I am someone who supports sexual assault through this series and it hurts.
Coming back from the dead to answer this question
Oh goodness, first of all, I’m very sorry anon. I’ve been in that exact situation with a friend when I first got into DL six years ago. They’re not my friend anymore due to some other things that happened in early high school on top of that, but trust me, it’s something that I’m familiar with too.
I was also ashamed of myself as well for some time. But, after when I was first sexually assaulted, I still didn’t mind Dialovers, and in fact, it was a coping mechanism for me (probably the healthiest I could find at that moment too). Although, Laito’s HDB route definitely hit very very hard because it is his darkest route in the series. But you can still watch something and be like “oh god this is a terrible situation” but know it’s still fictional, and since Laito’s HDB route is a well written one, you can appreciate it from an artistic stance. Art and media shouldn’t be limited to drawing the positives. Sure does it glorify nonconsensual situations??? Maybe a little but it does show Yui’s deterioration and trauma. Which is why I don’t think it glorifies it too much in HDB, considering what Yui’s thoughts are can be very real.
(Also not saying all sexual assault survivors will have the same opinion of this anime, I don’t speak for all survivors. But there’s your perspective from one :))
Regardless, the fanservice of DL, at its core, is a ravishment fantasy franchise. Sure people are here for the lore too (I know I am), but they can also be for the fanservice. I am unsure how old you are, anon, but considering this petty argument is occurring between a friend and you, it sounds like some high school/late middle school drama to me. I preface this considering I’m gonna be arguing something from the 18+ scale too. If you’re not 18+ this doesn’t rly apply to you (since no minors should be practicing kink) but there is something called CNC, or “consensual non-consensual.” Also known as “rape roleplay.” It’s a kink that can be used in BDSM, and is enacted by consenting adults. Is it nonconsensual? No way! However, in order to practice this, you need a lot of communication and trust, and it’s something that you shouldn’t start out with of course. Also, see Netflix’ “Sex Explained” and I think the first episode is on sexual fantasies. Many women have ravishment fantasies, but that doesn’t mean they want it ACTUALLY to happen to them!! With those types of fantasies it’s just in a D/s (Dom/sub) power play situation, which again, is performed by two (or more) consenting adults.
When it comes to that argument as well, it’s kind of like saying “if you watch and like slasher horror, you support serial killers” which,,,, is far from truth. Murder and rape are both terrible things. We’re just more used to seeing glorified violence on mainstream media rather than rape in general. There’s a whole slasher fandom! With people who love the lore and people who love the characters! It’s pretty similar to this fandom given the circumstances. But there’s people who have crushes on real life serial killers, and that’s just,,,, that’s a huge issue (abs very gross), and very different. Since one’s fantasy, and one’s in real life with real life actions that have affected legitimate families that exist. Even going from the slasher serial killer, it’s like “if you like Deadpool, do you support his actions?” (Which yes he’s an antihero but he does pretty illegal things) which no!!! It’s fun to explore dark and illegal exposition in a fictional world! It’s an escape! It’s looking at a story and still having empathy and sympathy for the characters.
So no!!! Liking DL is not supporting rape!! That’s legitimately such a stretch, and if you want to get technical with this, it’s a type of fallacy called the “slippery slope” fallacy. I believe it’s a combo of others too, but it’s making a claim and having the conclusion be way out of left field. I believe it falls under poor deductive reasoning (but it may be unsound inductive reasoning, it’s been a while since I’ve had to use those skills oops). For an anime specific example, let’s just say you know someone who has a crush on Yuno Gasai from Future Diary. Many people do. Many people love her character. Yuno’s a very flawed, traumatized character just like the ones in DL. But people love her! But you’re not supporting her incredibly unethical actions and murder by liking them!
Even if you know that this is a fictional universe, if you knowthat the characters are flawed but still like their characters, that doesn’t mean you’d support their actions irl. If they’re an interesting villain like legitimately all the characters (except Yui) in the first game are (the diaboys become both the villain??? And the hero??? It’s blurred in the later games but that’s what I love about DL), but you can appreciate their characters and flaws, that’s not supporting their actions at all. It’s a goddamn fictional universe and if you know not to do that and you know the repercussions of it irl then your friends should know you well enough that you have a good head on your shoulders!!! Shit makes me wicked mad, but it’s nothing to lose a friendship over unless if they’re being very toxic (that ex friend I was talking about earlier was a very toxic person and that’s also part of the reason why I’m not her friend anymore but it wasn’t DL related). Sure you can disagree with liking DL, but you still have to respect them. I’m linking a video from Markiplier made four years ago with a powerful message.
I’m very sorry you’re going through this. It’s completely normal, healthy, and inconsequential to be exploring a dark fictional world but not its contents in real life. Your friends shouldn’t be treating you like that. It’s hypocritical of them in my opinion, assuming that they also watch stuff with violence and illegal/unethical acts in them—I don’t know a single person who doesn’t, considering there’s even kids cartoon violence. Best of luck you you though, I hope I was able to help.
#i could pop off on the whole video games equalling violence argument#im not gonna#but video games dont create violence they literally dont#unless if you have some serious mental issues but that goes for anything not even playing video games#SHIT MAKES ME MAD LOL#ask corn#diabolik lovers#dialovers#dialover

Ableist harassment
CW: Ableist harassment caused by a professor.
I wrote more than this to the higher ups at the university. This class is called Mindfulness and to teach us mediation.
A few weeks before classes started, I emailed her explaining my disability and my access needs, including the need for captions.
1st class:
She asked us to walk around in our space and to move our feet a certain way as part of our meditation. I wrote in the chat section of Zoom that I use a wheelchair and won’t be moving around. Another student asked the professor what was the alternative exercise for those who can’t walk. The professor did not respond to our inquiry.
She then proceeded to talk about her amazing friend with a disability who died. This was uncalled for and hurtful to lack such mindfulness to my access needs and then to bring up a disabled friend. It’s almost like she was trying to win points for having a diverse group of friends and use it to hide her lack of consideration.
3rd class:
She started off the class with screen-sharing a video from YouTube. I had to ask for the captions to be turned on since the Zoom captions weren’t capturing the YouTube video very well. She told me to "go to YouTube to get a better translation [sic]” and I replied by asking her to click the CC button herself. She ignored me. Why am I expected to sync up and pay attention to both Zoom and YouTube just because I am a hard-of-hearing student? Am I supposed to go online after to learn what was being said during class? A far simpler solution would have been if the professor had simply clicked ‘CC’; then the captions from YouTube would show up on the Zoom screen-share for all students.
Later on in the same class, she played a voice-guided meditation from her computer. Other students were asking if another video was playing, since the audio quality from her computer was so garbled. I couldn’t hear nor see anything. In the chat, several students were asking what was going on. One student said “Just listen”, but I had no idea audio was playing. After a few minutes after that, with no response in the chat box, I noted the professor's eyes were shut. I was very confused and remembered the professor had asked me to speak up if I needed anything, so I unmuted my mic “Excuse me, sorry to interrupt but I’m hard-of-hearing and can’t hear anything.” The professor did not address me, but instead asked “Is that true?!” to her student TA. The TA replied that she was not hard-of-hearing, so she could not assess if there was a problem. I then said, “I told you multiple times about my disability needs and that I require captioning. You are being ableist by dismissing my needs and asking an abled person if they are true.” The professor pursed her lips and was silent for a few moments, then replied “There are nicer ways of making oneʻs needs known."
After a minute the TA reached out to me via chat to apologize and ask if she could have handled it better, I told her she was good, that it was the teacher that needed to apologize. She asked if I wanted to stay after class to address this and I agreed.
Then during lecture the professor made a weird reference to Dana Reeve, the wife of actor and disability advocate Christopher Reeve, quoting her as saying "I learned a long time ago life just isnʻt fair, so you better stop expecting it to be." She then graphically described Christopher Reeve's accident as "his head basically came off his spine," and stated that he died and his wife followed shortly after.
This narrative of Christopher Reeve erases entirely the years of groundbreaking disability advocacy between his accident and his death, graphically describes the details of his accident for shock value, and centers the feelings of his abled wife over the details of his life and accomplishments.
After class and accompanied by a friend and fellow classmate, I reiterated to the professor that her behavior during the guided meditation had been ableist. The professor became defensive and stated that she was only trying to make sure there were no technical difficulties going on from my end by verifying with her TA, and that she should be allowed to check such things without "being called rude in front of 117 people." I affirmed that it was her right to ask "Is anyone else experiencing technical difficulties?", but that it was not acceptable to ask "Is this true?", because the latter insinuates that I had been lying. The professor admitted to this fault, but then stated that she was teaching the meditation class "out of the goodness of her heart" and that it was a "service." My friend interjected to say, "With all due respect professor, accessibility is not a service, it is mandatory." I then recommended the book "Demystifying Disability by Emily Ladau" to the professor, saying it may help her understand what ableism is, how to be a better advocate and ally for her disabled students. The professor did not respond to either of these statements and rounded on her TA, telling her she was in charge of communicating with the students for any technical or accessibility issues. The TA nervously reiterated that since she was not hard-of-hearing, she could not see how she could anticipate my needs. The professor said that she wanted communication to be streamlined from one source, through the TA, so she could focus on her teaching. The meeting ended shortly after.
The following day, the professor sent an email asking me to come to class half an hour early due to technical connection issues. This adds a lot more work on my plate to not only arrive early, but also to tell her how to do better the experience since I already told her and she dismissed my needs. Why would I want to show up early if the class is such a negative space?
She did not apologize for getting defensive after class or her crude allusion to Christopher Reeve, nor did she clarify if I have direct communication with her and not through the TA during class.
4th class:
I decided to give the professor one last chance after we spoke. But in class she randomly talked about life being unfair again, and how parents should teach their children this lesson by giving one child a cookie and the other two, and saying "life isn't fair" when one of them cried. She then said how unfair it is that some parents have an autistic kid and even worst multiple autistic children. This was blatantly, clearly ableist, but I didn't have the energy to call her out anymore.
After class I found that she had emailed me to thank me for helping her find the "transcription" option in Zoom, as it helped her, a presumably abled person, read back on her lectures after class. She told me I had "blessed" her and her future classes. I was very offended because never apologized for her dismissive and defensive behavior in our discussion after class. And to tell me that I had blessed her by making her teaching easier by making her aware of something for my access needs, not for reasons of being a better advocate for disabled students but for reasons of helping her personal organization, was also offensive.
I am losing sleep over this professor's behavior towards me and the disability community. It is even affecting my ability to focus on other class work. Overall this professor's conduct towards any disabled student is unacceptable. I am worried there are other students who won’t speak up for their access needs when the teacher is publicly dismissing disabled people in general.
Because of all this I am requesting you to take action, however seems fit and I would like a full refund for this class.
Thank you for your time and look forward to your response.

Hide and seek
This is the Kidnapped prompt for the #BarsonBingoAugust2021 created by @simpforbarba
Warnings: Blood, psychological torture, some descriptions can be graphics. Let me know if I forgot anything. Words: 4181. Disclaimer: English is not my first language.
“What do you say if we go for some Chinese food and go to your apartment? We may find Noah still awake if we go now.” Said Rafael standing at Olivia's office door.
The lieutenant looked up and put down the papers she was reading, surprised because she hadn't heard him arrive. She gave him an exhausted smile and took off his glasses.
“That would be great but…”
“You have a case.”
“I have a case.”
“A case for which they are pressuring you a lot, according to what I heard” He approached the desk. He already knew these kinds of cases, they resonated that much in the newspapers, that became a political issue, so the high levels pushed the police to the limit.
“That's right, but every clue we have just led us to a dead-end road.— Olivia sighed and dropped the paper in her hand. All that she wanted was to leave the station, take a walk with Rafael and be there when Noah went to bed, so she could read his bedtime story, for the first time that week.
“Hey… I know you are in a difficult position, but it's no use that you stay here all night, without sleeping” Rafael sat in the chair across the desk “You need to take a step back and stop looking at all that evidence for a while. When you come back tomorrow, after a good night’s sleep, you may see this and find something you didn’t see.”
“You may be right” she granted, still a little upset that she couldn't move further in the case.
A series of corpses had been found. Two each time, couples, according to what their family said. They had rope marks on their wrists, traces of sedatives, shoots in their chest and heads. All the women were raped. The Killer Match the press had called it. All the beginning, it seemed to follow a path with just heterosexual couples, but they suddenly found a sapphic couple and another one gay. They had found five couples, the last two had appeared after the investigation of the third, unlike the first two that were found thanks to the ongoing investigation. They were three weeks apart each time, and they were running out of time before they had a new couple on the coroner's table.
Olivia stood and took her stuff, purse, and coat. Rafael smiled back at her and stood as well, held out his hand towards her. As they left her office, he crossed an arm over her shoulders, and kissed her cheek, trying to improve her mood.
“When we arrive at the apartment, I will take care to spoil you.”
“With you being by my side is enough. Besides, I’m so tired that I’m not sure I’ll be able to eat dinner.”
---
They were sitting at a table, waiting for the takeaway food. A glass of wine in front of Olivia, and scotch in Rafael’s hand. It should have been 15 minutes and it had been already 20. After a long day, Olivia was a little impatient, her mind thought in that case, again and again, reviewing in her mind the evidence they had. After another five minutes, Rafael went to claim their food and she was left alone. Then she almost had an epiphany. She took the file from her purse, checked some papers, and then she made a search on her phone. She gasped as she realized.
“What happened?” Rafael asked when he came back, as he knew that look in her eyes “What did it happen when I wasn’t here”
“I… I found it” she replied still surprised by her own words “I know who he is, I know where he is. It was in front of us all this time, and we didn’t even notice!”
Rafael knew right away that they wouldn’t go home, after the last week, she wouldn’t let it be not even a minute more. They got into her car and Rafael put the food on the back seat. He would follow her till where ever she wanna go. He didn’t need to ask her anything.
She parked in front of a flower shop, behind the shop was the owner's house. Due to the time, all the shops in the area were already closed and the street looked almost deserted. Without her police radio, she took her phone and called for reinforcements. Olivia walked determinedly to the door of the flower shop, she took out his gun and his badge willing to be herself the one to arrest him. Upon closer inspection of the flower shop, she could see that the door was open, which gave her the green light to enter.
“Rafa, stay here”
“But Liv…”
“No, no but. The reinforcements are on the way, it is just a guy and you are not authorized to be the ADA in my case. You just wait here, and when the patrol arrives you send them inside.”
She didn’t let him make any reply and entered the flower shop. Identified herself as NYPD, just in case there was someone near enough to hear her, she couldn't let this case get lost on any kind of legal technicality. The shop lights were off, some street lights hardly leaked through the window. She advanced slowly with her gun in hand and alert. The first room cleared. It was when she went to the backroom when she felt a prick in her neck. It was too fast, just a little pressure and when she turned back, she fell to the ground just like a puppet whose strings had been cut. The gun, still in Olivia’s hand, shot up when it hit the ground. Rafael heard and he immediately went inside.
“Liv!” He exclaimed entering the back room.
She still had her eyes open and used all her will to try to move and warn him, but it was useless, she couldn’t even feel her arms or legs. Rafael ran to her across the door and before he could reach her, the perpetrator hit his head with a flower vase, knocking him out instantly. Barba fell beside Olivia, who looked at him terrified and then at the guy who was looking at them with a wide satisfied, and creepy smile on his face.
---
She woke up and everything was dark around her. She felt dizzy and sleepy. Her eyelids were heavy and she had a hard time staying focused. She could tell she was in a car. No. She was in the trunk of a car. She could feel the movement and the only thing she wanted was to hear the police siren following them near. She focused on what she could hear, but there was nothing outside but the normal sound of traffic. Little was the space she had to move and even less was allowed by the ropes that restricted her movements. Her mind threatened to bring back horrible memories of her tied up and gagged, in the trunk of Lewis' car moving with complete impunity. She tried her best not to think about it and tried to break free. It was then that she realized that she was not alone in the trunk.
Her heart stopped for a moment. Because her hands were tied up behind her, she had to lie on her side to be able to touch him. She looked for his pulse or any other vital sign, she begged for him to stay alive, and he was. Without being able to see him, she was guided by touch and when she felt the suspenders across his chest, she knew it was Rafael. It had to be him, she didn’t want to think of the alternative if it wasn’t him. She settled next to him, she wanted to feel his warmth and breath, somehow it made her feel better knowing that she wasn’t alone. She immediately felt guilty about it, since her relief was due to Rafael being kidnapped. There wasn’t anything she could do about it, and feeling Rafael by her side gave her the peace of mind that helped her repress the memories of those four days.
With the sedatives still in her system and prived of any external stimulus, she fell asleep again.
---
When Olivia opened her eyes again, she was alone. She was still tied up but in the middle of a forest. The sun was shining high, dazzling her eyes. She tried to stand, a difficult task with her hands tied behind her back, but after a few tries, she did it. There was no sign of Rafael nor even the guy that took them there. In front of her, leaning against a tree, there was a bag. She was sure that The Killer Match would be back soon, so she hurried to find something to release herself, so she could have a chance to do something.
She had a hard time trying to get something from the bag without looking, just feeling with her hands. Something pricked her left hand and as she could feel, she knew it was a Swiss knife. The blade didn’t seem very sharp but should be enough to cut the ropes.
While she was trying to free herself, a sound caught her attention. There was no one around, and it wasn’t a sound from the forest. She realized that it came from the bag, it seemed like a radio and when she looked inside the bag, she could see the antenna peeking out from under a compass and a canteen.
She finally released her hands and before anything else, she hurried to get to the canteen. She hoped it had some water, she felt thirsty and needed to drink anything. She wasn’t lucky at all, and the canteen was empty. She sighed with frustration and checked the bag. To the bottom of the backpack, she found a first aid kit pretty much empty as well. What she thought was a radio turned out to be the receiver of a baby monitor, just like she had used it when Noah was a baby. This one seemed to have been manipulated by hand.
“Hello… hi… testing… 1, 2, 3… Can you hear me?” A male voice came from the radio.
Olivia stood and took the bag, knowing that would be useful eventually. She looked around, looked for some path, looked for footsteps, and looked for something that helped her find a way to Rafael and understand what happened to him.
“If I'm not wrong, you both should be awake by now. I bet you already found the bag, but if you haven’t, now you do. No, it wasn’t left behind by a random hiker, is there for you to use it. We’re gonna play a game.”
“Both”, he said “both”, which meant that Rafael was somewhere in that forest too, probably confused and worried as she was.
“These are the rules: you both are on the opposite side of the forest, you both can hear me, but neither of you can communicate with each other. You can try to run away alone, or you can try to find each other. Either way, if I found you first, it’s game over. My dog has a good sense of smell, so I hope you can run fast.”
Word after word, Olivia began to understand all the victims went through and the kind of psycho this guy was. He was not just an amateur or a simple serial killer. He was calculating and careful, he had planned this very well.
“Lieutenant Benson… How is your head? It hurts, right? I’m sure you are thirsty too. Don’t worry, it’s just a side effect of the sedative I gave you. It will only get worse if you don't get some water.” She heard derisive laughter “If you follow the right path you will find a river that crosses the entire forest, you can load the canteen there. But… You will realize that this will reveal your location. It’s your choice. The game begins… Now!”
---
Rafael was on the opposite side of the forest. He had dried blood on one side of his head and his shirt collar. His wrists were red where the ropes had been. He also had his backpack and he was looking for a way to know where to go and find Olivia. It had always been easy for him to orient himself with the cardinal points, but he didn’t know in which part of the forest he was, so he didn’t know where to go. He thought he could climb a tree, but he dismissed the idea immediately, he hadn't done that since he was a kid. He wandered his gaze through the woods around him and chose a random direction, he had to trust that he was going in the right direction.
The forest was peaceful. Sunlight trickled through the leaves of trees, which were shaken by the slight autumn breeze. He heard birds singing from the treetops, so high that he was not able to see them. However, his vitals were racing, with the same adrenaline that he had only felt with the most important court cases, or even more. He walked in a hurry and wondered where the hell they were. He thought that the trees and birds around him should have been a way to know that, but little was all he knew about it.
“I can see you” heard from the radio after a few minutes with silence. Rafael's heart stopped for a moment. He couldn’t be sure who of the two was he talking to. From what he came to see, it wasn't him. “I can sense your horror.” He heard the dog barking in the background, coming from the radio, then he knew it wasn’t talking to him. “It’s already too late for you to try and run away”
Rafael felt despair grow inside him, he lost the composure he had tried to preserve and ran through the forest. He prayed he was heading in the right direction, he prayed he could reach in time and he prayed that Olivia could run faster from that guy or his dog. His lungs burned and his vision became somewhat blurry, but he kept running until he heard the gunshot. The sound echoed both over the radio and in the forest. He stood in shock without knowing what to do. His full attention was on the radio and the sounds that came from it.
“Run while you still can, your time is running out” heard the guy said, only then he could breathe again. Olivia was still alive. And because of the gunshot, he knew where he had to go. That way he ran again, willing to get to Olivia before the psychopath did.
---
Meanwhile, Olivia was running desperate, tears in her eyes. Her head was killing her, but she didn’t care anymore. She had heard everything on the radio and needed to make sure Rafael was okay. From what she had heard, he had managed to escape from the Killer Match, she just hoped he'd dodged the shot. She already knew where she had to go. She knew she was more likely to meet The Killer, but she didn't care, she just wanted to reach Rafael in time.
“Do you think your partner is still here? I think we are already alone” said the guy. “Don’t be sad, you are not the only one. It was the same with the first two couples. You think you found the love of your life, but when the time comes, they just look for themselves.”
“Don't listen to him Rafa” Olivia thought. She was doing her best to keep running. Self-defense classes kept her fit, but being inside the gym in a controlled environment was not the same as being in the middle of a forest. “I’m still here. I won't leave you. Don’t give up now, I’m coming for you.”
“This started as an experiment, you know? It turned out to be a lot more entertaining than I thought. I saw the cops go and come with the bodies I left behind. They never thought I was suspect, until now. Did you know you didn’t find them all? There are still two more couples out there. I don't think you ever will. Neither of you will return alive.”
“Not on my watch,” she thought.
She didn't notice it until she heard the click. It was that fast that she couldn’t do anything about it. Ropes moved through the trees and raised an extensive net, hidden on the ground. Before she could tell, she was hanging ten feet off the ground, trapped in the net.
“No, no, no…” Overcome by panic, her heart stopped for a moment, she clung to the net and struggled with it.
“Oh, oh… Someone fell into a trap” heard the voice from the radio and with a chilling whisper he added, “I know where you are…”
Olivia's breathing was racing, her mind was fuzzy, she was desperate to get rid of as soon as possible so she could run away. She just wanted to find Rafael and get the hell away from the forest. She wanted to see her son again, hug him, and never think about The Killer Match again. It took a lot of effort on her part to be able to focus, when she did, she recalled the Swiss knife. She took it from her pocket, her hands shaking so much that she feared it fell. She squeezed her hand tight to avoid accidents. She sought to cut a hole large enough in the side of the net, to be able to pass through. Her plan was to hang from the net before jumping, to reduce the distance to the ground.
“You can’t hide from me. Just wait for it, I’m almost there.”
With great speed, the razor's edge passed over the rope of the net. She could felt how she was running out of time. She was sweating cold and her heart was beating as fast as a mouse.
“I prefer young couples for this game, but I had to admit that you are being entertained enough. I’ll enjoy killing you two.”
With two ropes off, Olivia was able to sneak out. She hung for a moment from the net and then she fell to the ground. Although she tried to calculate her fall, her hands did not hold out for long. A scream escaped her mouth due to the impact against the ground, she could felt her right ankle hurt. However, she had no time to lose, she needed to run as fast as she could go.
She stood up, laying his weight on the tree next to her, and then she ran.
---
Rafael fell on his knees. His lungs did not allow him to continue running. He was short of breath and already felt dizzy. He could feel like his heart wanted to jump out of his chest, his throat was dry and burning. He puts his hands on the ground trying to calm himself. He could feel the throbbing in his legs. He cleared his throat and used all his willpower to get back on his feet. Olivia needed him and that psycho was near to her. He stood for a minute and then ran again.
“I’m getting closer. I can hear your footsteps thumping loudly through the forest.”
“No! Liv, run… please, just run,” Rafael thought. He didn't care if she ran away and left him there, he didn’t care to die in the forest, as long as she was safe. The sound of a breaking branch interrupted his thoughts. He hid behind a tree and took the Swiss knife, with the blade ready for anything. It wasn’t much, but it was better than fight just with his fists. He heard footsteps advancing trying not to make noise. He wondered if it could be Olivia, but then he heard the dog and he knew it was The Killer Match.
“You are not very good at hiding, I can see you…”
He heard the gun charge behind him. He closed his eyes and let the air out of his lungs. He stood and turned around slowly. Just like he already knew, the killer was in front of him, just a few steps away. He raised his hands in the air and their gazes met. The killer smiled sadistically and licked his lips, just like a beast ready to devour its prey. He took the radio and brought it to his mouth.
“You can say goodbye to your man Lieutenant. It’s game over for him.”
Then he just shot. The Killer liked to play with his victims, so he wouldn't let the fun be over so soon. He made sure to hurt him, without killing him immediately. The bullet got to the low abdomen, on his right side. Rafael fell to the ground moaning in pain and dropped the knife. Blood gushed from the wound in great quantity and his first reflex was to pressure the wound. The Killer approached and pointed his gun at Rafael's head.
“I hope you know Lieutenant, that you just confirmed my theories. In the end, you just chose to save yourself.” He hooked the radio back on his belt, crouched next to Rafael, and put the gun to his temple. He took a pair of handcuffs from his pocket and handcuffed Rafael. Although he had the gun pointing to his head, offered some resistance, something the Killer enjoyed. He picked up the knife with a wide, terrifying smile on his face. “Perhaps I can still have some fun” He rested the knife on Rafael's cheek “Stay still, do not try anything” made a quick cut, moved the knife against his chest, and made a new cut, this time even deeper, which needed more pressure and strength. Rafael bit back a cry. “What else can I cut? A finger? A toe? Which would make you scream more? I want to hear you” He positioned the knife against the pinky, knowing that it would take a while to cut the skin, muscle, and tendons to separate the bone.
Out of nowhere, Olivia appeared. She pounced on the killer, took him away from Rafael, and knocked him to the ground. In the process she got him to drop the gun. “I was waiting for you to show up,” he yelled in amusement and fought against her. With his free hand, he wanted to strike a blow against her head, which she blocked with a hand. Automatically he thrust the knife into her other hand. Olivia screamed. Adrenaline ran through her body just like when she beat the hell out of William Lewis after four days of torture, so she dealt repeated blows against the face of the Killer, who only laughed.
He kicked her to get her off him, then he stood up and spit out some blood. Then he pounced over her. Due to her bad ankle, she lost stability and fell to the ground. Aided by gravity, he imprisoned her under his body. His hands moved up and down all over her body and Olivia struggled to take him off. He opened her shirt, ripping out the buttons before a new gunshot was heard.
Rafael had done his best to get to the gun he held in his bloody hands. There were just a few times that he had shot in his life, he didn’t feel comfortable holding a gun and it took him a long time to decide to shoot because he did not trust his aim. But the shot was clean. The Killer fell over Olivia, gushing blood from the shot on his head. Both Olivia and Rafael froze for a moment, their breaths were heavy and after a moment they could react. Rafael dropped the gun, Olivia pushed the corpse and ran to Rafael.
“Rafa!” she exclaimed, becoming aware of her aching body again. She knelt on the ground and put a hand on his wound. “Rafa… you’re gonna be fine, don't worry.”
“Liv, are you ok?” he asked, worried about her and the first gunshot he had heard from the radio. He hadn’t realized yet that it had been a mind game the Killer made for them, like a bait, to guide them towards him.
“Yes, yes… I am” she wasn’t aware of the tears that were falling down her face. “I… I’ll get some help.” Then she looked for a phone in the corpse pockets. She dialed 911 returning to Rafael's side and pressed on his wound. “I am Lieutenant Benson, from svu, I need a bus.” She gave the details to the operator and explained that she didn’t know where they were. They tracked her phone and soon enough the help was on its way. A few minutes later Olivia leaned over Rafael and kissed him, relieved to hear the sirens approaching. They were going to be fine.

Jedi June Appreciation Event | Saturday, June 5: There is no emotion, there is peace.
[Read on Ao3]
“Did you not just hear what those sleemos said?” Commander Skywalker’s voice was high, loud, and grating in all the ways that Rex couldn’t care for at the moment with his splitting headache. “How can you just let them say those things, it’s – it’s –”
“I don’t disagree with you, Padawan,” General Kenobi said softly, shifting slightly so that Cody’s armour wasn’t digging into his back, “but your anger is not going to help you right now.”
“You – it’s like you don’t even care –”
“Have I given any impression of that when we actually have the time to care? My priority at the moment is to get our men to a safe location and call for a medevac. As much as those comments incensed me, I cannot allow myself to be distracted by my own feelings right now. Not when it’ll do more harm than good.”
Rex supposed that it was some Jedi philosophy that the General was quoting, but he could see the reasoning behind it too. Although he found it a bit surprising that Skywalker didn’t seem to agree. After a few more minutes of this back-and-forth exchange, General Kenobi sighed and ushered the Commander away for scouting duty.
“Nice move, sir,” he said dryly, wincing when his hastily splinted leg caught on a particularly large stone. Kenobi smiled and extended his hand, which Rex eyed warily.
“You should get some weight off that foot, Captain,” he said mildly, shifting Cody to a single shoulder. “And I can bear your weight without issues, since I’m currently uninjured.”
“General, with due respect, you’re already carrying Cody. Injured or not, it’ll tire you out quicker than supporting just one of us.”
But Kenobi simply quirked an eyebrow. “I know my limits, Rex, you needn’t worry about me. It shouldn’t be so far off, anyhow, Anakin doesn’t seem to be too distanced from us over our bond.”
Sighing, Rex relented – his leg did hurt like hell, and if they needed to get into action quickly, he couldn’t afford to worsen the injury pre-emptively. Kenobi held him to his side with ease, and matched his unsteady hopping at a comfortable pace that wouldn’t strain his other leg too. It couldn’t have been comfortable with both Cody’s and his armour digging into his shoulder, but the man barely showed any signs of it, not even complaining once the way his insufferable brothers might have done.
“I sense you’re deep in thought, Captain,” Kenobi invited lightly, looking for the world like he was simply taking a walk along the corridors of the Negotiator, rather than holding up the weights of two fully armoured, grown men, without breaking step.
“It’s just… what you said to the Commander, earlier. Was it from the Jedi Code?”
He hummed. “It was and it wasn’t. It’s technically only a part of our philosophy, but given our nature of influence on the communities around us – and our use of the Force, Jedi are usually trained to manage their emotions effectively from a very young age.”
“I see.” Though he wondered what it would mean for nat-borns to learn those techniques, especially since they weren’t bred for psychological (well, and physical) hardiness the way the clones were. He mentioned as much to the General, who momentarily had a strange look on his face before it smoothed into the usual geniality he’d begun to find comfort in.
“We provide any psychological help we can, of course,” he explained bluntly. “A lot of Jedi go through traumatic events in their lifetime, and while it’s not a flawless system – sometimes the situation at hand means that there’s simply not enough time to process things until much, much later – it helps. And aside from trauma, we still offer counselling to anyone who seeks it. Even if it’s for gentle reassurance about things people may consider to be trivial, or for specific issues that Initiates and Padawans approach them for, or for serious conditions that need long-term help and therapy, we don’t turn them away.”
It sounded like an incredible system, to Rex. “I’ve heard stories about the kind of missions Jedi usually go on,” he said carefully, “and I get what you mean about the trauma. But do you have the sort of infrastructure and support available at the scale that the war is producing?”
He snuck a sidelong glance at Kenobi, who appeared to be openly stunned at the question. Rex’s heart sank; had nobody asked the Jedi how they were doing since the beginning of the war?
Granted, only the Jedi had ever asked after the well-being of their troopers (other than their brothers themselves), but it was surprising to Rex that the group of people committed towards helping the galaxy around them got such little thanks for it. He knew that they never did it for the gratitude, but used their “gifts from the Force” for good as was their mandate (something they genuinely loved following, which delighted his brothers to listen to them about), but to see the way they were treated almost completely reflect the way that clones themselves were treated was unsettling.
That a simple check-in based on what new knowledge he’d gained had surprised a member of the Council, a leading representative of the Order who would have interacted with enough dignitaries to actually be privy to the thanks the Jedi may get, was even more upsetting.
Rex wondered if this was what the Jedi usually felt whenever they saw brothers being mistreated, and while he filed his indignation away for later, he thought he understood why Skywalker had reacted the way he had, before Kenobi had sent him off on his errand.
“I’m not sure that we do,” Kenobi confessed quietly. “We’ll continue to do our best, of course. We won’t turn people away when they need all the help they can get. But we may have to reorganise our structure, which is… disheartening.”
Rex personally thought that it was a lot more than disheartening, but he’d keep that to himself and make plans with his brothers later. He suspected a lot of nights of brothers coaxing their Jedi to talk to them, wheedling their burdens away from them as much as they could and sharing them together. Cody was going to be impossible when he was healed enough to know any of this, but Rex wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Master!” Skywalker winced at his own volume when multiple soldiers around him flinched, apologising quickly under his breath. “There’s an… alcove? Some form of shelter nearby, it looks naturally formed – and there are a few cave systems close by which look abandoned, they’re probably safe for us to stay in while we wait.”
“Very good, Anakin. Did you check the systems for unfriendly inhabitants?”
“They’re completely clear, Master. There’s no sign of life in them, but there are signs that people have camped there previously. Ashes in a fire pit, and so on. But they don’t look recent.”
“I suspect those caves may be a traveller’s lounge, now,” he said wryly, and Rex snorted. “Lead us on our way, then, my apprentice.”
Skywalker nodded eagerly, before giving a few troopers directions and setting up a new purposeful pace. Rex grimaced when he realised that this meant speeding up, but somehow Kenobi managed to find a new pace between them that didn’t jostle his ankle too much even as they moved faster than before.
Soon enough, they’d slipped past the alcove into the cave systems and set up a steady watch cycle while moving off to provide more medical attention to the injured troops. The campaign had been hard on them all, and where brothers weren’t injured, they looked exhausted. Kenobi and Skywalker were among the few who looked like they would last longer than a few hours without immediately passing out, which he took to heart as a sign that the army had been wise to have the Jedi lead them instead of other nat-borns. Wolffe had vented to him about one of his older nat-born leaders who had managed to kriff up an entire mission to save his own skin, and that it was thanks to the crazy plans of Generals Koon and Fisto that they’d emerged alive, if not entirely whole, from that battlefield.
He’d emphasised the word “whole” too, indicating the massive bandage around his head where Ventress had sliced his eye out during her escape.
Skywalker had taken it up to himself to restart the old argument they’d had on the road while Kenobi helped Rex sit against the wall of the cave before gently setting Cody down and looking him over for specific injuries.
“Anakin, it’s not that I wouldn’t defend them, but my assessment of the situation meant that leaving quickly and ignoring the heckling was the best way to proceed. If I’d stood around and verbalised my defence of our men, I would have lost more men to injuries due to the time I would have wasted – yes, wasted, in relation to how quickly we managed to get them here!”
“You always say that we’re meant to defend others, to stand up for those who need us. And I’m not saying that they can’t do it, but…”
“Commander, permission to speak freely?”
Skywalker blinked when Rex spoke up directly, but nodded mutely.
“Permission granted,” Kenobi translated frankly, guessing that he wanted the verbal confirmation before he went for it.
“Thank you, sirs. General Kenobi’s right on this one. We appreciate your willingness to stand up for us, Commander, but at the time, it wasn’t what we needed. We needed a quick exit, and the situation may have gotten out of hand if we’d stayed and argued with them for longer. Even if we’d sent out a batch of scouts to find this place, we would have been stuck between waiting for a promise to help – one that would be uncertain, anyway – and trying to get people to that distance. As it is, a lot of the troops are close to critical condition.” He nodded at Cody’s prone form, and Kenobi’s look of concentration as he presumably stabilised his brother’s condition as best as he could without overtaxing himself.
“I thought you might say that you value a leader who sticks up for you,” Skywalker admitted. “Not that we won’t, but wouldn’t it be easier to trust us if you know that we’ll be your first line of defence without you needing to ask?”
“Pardon me, sir, but that sounds like banthash-”
“You make a fair point, Anakin,” Kenobi cut in smoothly with a heatless glare at Rex for his language. He fought back a snicker. “Actively, verbally making your allyship known to someone would bolster their confidence in you – but that’s in a situation where they’re safe enough to acknowledge and process it. Your anger is well-directed, my apprentice, and that is not what I find an issue with.”
“Sir, you’re not wrong that we appreciate you defending us,” Rex added carefully. “A lot of the men find it reassuring that you have our backs even off the battlefield. Especially the shinies, since the Kaminoans…”
Kenobi’s expression darkened a little, but he nodded encouragingly even as he carefully unwrapped Rex’s ankle. Rex hissed when the man felt around the break, but aside from a quick apology, all he received was the request to keep talking.
“But… on the battlefield, if we stuck around defending each other without paying attention to the bigger picture – ow – we’d all be dead in seconds. We’re trained to push those impulses away. Not that we have those coping mechanisms you Jedi talk about,” he added wryly, wincing when Kenobi re-wrapped the ankle in a fresh bacta-soaked bandage. Where he even found the bacta, he didn’t know, considering the General hadn’t moved from where he was kneeling before Rex the entire time.
Must be some Force nonsense, he thought to himself.
“So… how do you manage it?” Skywalker squatted down next to Kenobi, frowning at him. “As Jedi, we’re also taught to put aside our emotions, but…”
“It’s not so much about putting them aside as… well, I suppose Captain Rex would be able to help you here, a lot more than I could, given the way we each process things.”
Rex supposed that it had to do with how calm General Kenobi always was. Of course, the man felt things – he’d seen him determined, elated, exasperated and even downright irritated sometimes, but the depth of emotion he expressed outwardly was remarkably controlled. And for all that he felt emotions, they never quite seemed to be so intense, in the way he himself experienced his feelings. He was just good at setting them aside or using them as a drive for his actions.
“Well… that anger you showed earlier – it can be performative if it isn’t followed through. The men need affirmation that you’ll stick with them on and off the battlefield, so I’m not saying that you should stop defending us if that’s what you’ll continue to do anyway, but… we spend our whole lives justifying our right to live. On Kamino…” Kriff, he’s never said this to anyone before – a brother would understand, and whyever would a Jedi want to hear this–
But they did want to hear. And Rex, upon really thinking about it, found that he wanted to tell them.
“On Kamino,” he repeated slowly, “it was always something with the trainers. Not to mention the Kaminoans themselves. If we weren’t the best, certain… actions were taken. Please don’t ask me to get into specifics,” he added hurriedly when Skywalker started glowering, “but we’ve always had to put our success over ourselves. Not in the way that you Jedi prioritise a mission, but…”
“In an almost self-destructive manner,” Kenobi surmised, looking about as close to angry as Rex had ever seen him.
“Yessir. It’s kind of… habit, now, for us to channel our emotions into the battlefield – you’ll find a lot of brothers who refuse to voice their thoughts but let out their aggression in the field, because it’s the only way they’ve learned how. And by doing that, they learned that they can keep more of their brothers safe. So… when General Kenobi says that your anger isn’t helpful, it’s because it’s… reactionary? It resolves your emotions, but doesn’t really do much after that.”
Skywalker nodded slowly. “I think I get it now.”
“With anger,” General Kenobi said softly, “it’s purely, ah, performative, as Captain Rex put it. You can yell at someone for a while, toss them around if you’re that type of person, and sometimes it’ll give you short-term relief, but it doesn’t achieve anything good in the long run. But if you channelled all that anger into something else, let it go and focused on the next action rather than the reaction…”
“‘There is no emotion, there is peace’?” Skywalker quoted, and Kenobi nodded.
“Precisely, Padawan. Act with intention, with rational thought, not with emotion.”
“So I should just cast my feelings aside? I don’t think I could hold them off. I’ve tried.”
“Holding them off isn’t the goal, Anakin, but shifting your focus is. Think of it this way – Rex, you dual-wield blasters, right?”
Rex nodded, wondering where this was going.
“Which means you’d need to be aware of both of those weapons in the field – how they weigh, the recoil on them, and managing your aim with both hands.”
“Yes, sir. If I got careless, I’d shoot a brother, or either of you.”
“Which brings me to my point – while you were still in training, you would have had to do it all consciously, right? Think about each of those elements, get used to the weight of your blasters if you replaced them, figure out how you can do every one of those small checks faster and faster until they became instinct.”
He nodded again, catching on. “Act with intention until it’s instinct.”
“Precisely! Now, if you were to act too hastily based on an emotion, how do you think that would work?”
The reply is instantaneous. “I might misfire. Forget to check my gear, or my aim, or my hands may be too shaky. And if the shot goes wide, even if I don’t hit a brother or either of you, that means there’s one more droid in the battlefield that could kill us all at any point of time. It’s about them, not me.”
“You think of yourself as a part of a whole, and as a whole. And it’s usually the former that gains precedence here,” Kenobi completed, pleased. “Anakin, it’s not so much that your feelings are invalid or too strong in that they must be held off, but you must be aware that their strength does not consume your judgement in decision-making.”
The Commander bit his lip, but nodded. “Okay, Master.”
It wasn’t the best confirmation that he’d actually understood, but evidently Kenobi was satisfied, so Rex dropped it.
“I wasn’t expecting a philosophical discussion today, though,” the General murmured to him when Skywalker moved off to mingle with the other troopers – and probably to help, if their talk had been any indication. “Has it occurred to you that the theory that you often share about yourselves often mirrors what we learn as Jedi, if with different reasoning behind it?”
“Sir, Cody’s always said that the Jedi are the closest it gets to a nat-born understanding us clones,” he said bluntly. “And you’ve said that the reverse is true.”
“I suppose it’s why we work together so well,” he said, smiling up at him.
Rex couldn’t help but agree.

Qualities Of Trustworthy Funeral Directors In Dundee
It is not easy to decide when making funeral arrangements. Due to emotional burdens, families of the deceased may accept whatever is offered by funeral homes. But making decisions in a rush may compromise the quality of such a momentous occasion. Loved ones may also fail to consider the best options when it comes to finances. That is why it’s an advantage to have someone guide relatives throughout the execution of funeral services. At memorial ceremonies, only funeral directors in Dundee can help families make good decisions.
But to get a trustworthy candidate, it’s essential to recognise certain qualities. Discover all of them below.
Sensitivity
One of the great aspects of the most humble funeral directors in Dundee is to have the ability to remain ‘in the background’ while helping grieving families. A great deal of work goes into planning and executing a personalised funeral service. Still, the exceptional funeral director makes it look seamless. Their job is to comfort the family and make the celebration of life memorable for the family and friends of their loved ones.
Sense of humour
At first glance, this may seem like an inappropriate trait for a funeral director to embrace. But sometimes, amid the sadness, lightening the moment may be just what the family needs. The funeral director’s job is not for the faint of heart, but it is most assuredly for those who have a big heart. Funeral directors must know how to nurture, comfort, and protect all family members they meet. The reward of working in the funeral profession is emotionally beyond measure.
Altruism
Most people get their emotional capital by helping others. Funeral directors show their commitment simply by supporting grieving families countless times. If serving others is the core reason they are in this industry – if serving others is their “calling” –they are probably a great funeral director.
Continuing learning
Performing beyond usual standards is what exceptional funeral directors aim for. They should always be considering new perspectives and challenging their mind to think outside the proverbial box.
Compassionate
Funeral directors are used to supporting and consoling families in planning out funerals. They come across quite a few people who are beside themselves with grief daily. A funeral director needs to show compassion and empathy to all of their clients as well throughout the funeral planning process. Everyone responds to the death of a loved one a little differently, which means funeral directors need to be prepared to provide as much counselling and guidance as necessary.
Organised
Planning out a funeral takes a lot of hard work. There are so many different aspects of doing it. The organisation of tasks is paramount to funeral directors who plan out funerals that meet the demands of bereaved families. If they’re not able to keep things together, it could lead to issues down the line during funeral services.
Good communicator
A funeral director needs to be great at both talking and listening. When a family first comes in to see them, they will likely have a lot of ideas about what they want their loved one’s funeral services to be like. Funeral directors need to listen to their clients carefully to deliver what they want. Funeral directors clearly explain each step of the funeral planning process so families won’t get confused in the process. Communication is key when they’re mapping out the specifics of a funeral.
Internal locus of control
“Internal locus of control” is a more technical way of saying “a person with a high sense of personal responsibility.” This business moves too fast for funeral directors to always be dependent on their bosses. When the business is at a slow pace, funeral directors fill in the gap through research. The blame game doesn’t also work in this industry.
Trustworthy funeral directors in Dundee provide constant guidance to bereaved relatives. But funeral directors who are dedicated to their duties can be hard to find. Most funeral firms sensationalise the accomplishments of their staff for promotional pursuits. But if candidates have proof of attaining all qualities listed above, it would be wise to hire their services. Such funeral directors can only be part of exceptional funeral firms.

Gossip Girl 2.0
So. . . I was unsure of whether I was going to talk about this or not but… in the end, here we are!
I shall be talking about the Gossip Girl Reboot.
Now quick disclaimer and mild *excuse you* to HBO, please find ways to make your content accessible to Europe because there are those of us that are interested and unfortunately your "Max" service is US only and honestly i see no reasonable logic behind it. Therefore my means of getting access to this content shall not be discussed.
Extra disclaimer, there will be spoilers. Doi.
Now I am a big die hard fan of the original GG series and despite the outdated (to today’s standards) comparisons and slang, some of the topics hold up even today. For anyone curious or questioning my opinion, based on my generation, I am mildly in the middle as a Zelenial at 23. I did not grow up with GG, I learned about it when I was 14 but watched it for the first time when I was 19. Since, I have watched it up to 14-17 times; more than 10 for sure. So you can do with that as you please. The main reason I mention this is due to some articles and comments pointing out that maybe it’s a “Gen Z only media” or that “Millennials are just bitter cause it’s not theirs”. Keeping that in mind I will be as per usual showing the ups and downs of the show (so far and later on) from my own personal perspective.
After watching ep 1. (& now 2 which will be in a separate post after this) I have a few questions, comments AND concerns. So let’s get into those shall we :)
So let's do a little round up of our characters.
We have newcomer Zoya Lott that is moving to NYC on a Constance scholarship! But little did anyone in the show know, it was all a plot to get to be with her *half sister*. WHAT?! So the tldl on that is that Zoya and our other main character, Julien Calloway, share a mom! Mom, that i quote "left Julien's dad for Zoya's dad and the dads hate each other" because of which hate, they had absolutely forbidden their daughters from communicating. One thing led to another, a friend request was sent and this is basically the parent trap. . . . but for the kids. . .and they're aware of it cause they made it. . . I suppose? The parents haven't really been mentioned to matter in their plan, however, they do keep bringing up their middle names as "Zoya Jane and Julien Elizabeth" as clues left by their mother? Now some rumours around the web have connected the names to the Pride and Prejudice novels and while that would be extremely Gossip Girl-esque to do, and I am entirely up for that, hell yea!!! I'm wondering if it's as simple as... their mother's name was Elizabeth Jane... but maybe GG will be the one to discover that secret first? Other than that, Zoya is very much a very trusting "innocent type" character that probably has more past than we know about so it will be quite interesting to see how that elaborates going further into the series.
Then there is self-made influencer Julien Calloway. She is the new version of queen at Constance but as stated, they "don't do the patriarchy anymore". While she appears all smiles and kindness, personally i feel as if JC is kind of fake? She has things she cares about yes, but the moment someone or something interferes with her followers and her social standing or Obie (more on him later)
"the gloves come off and the claws come out" - Serena Van der Woodsen
When it comes to Julien I am honestly more curious to see who she is once you take away the followers and the media. Will she be an actual person or just a shallow obsessed spoiled brat? I just hope it won't be the typical story of "have to be perfect and have to have everyone like me because my mom left" ie. has mommy issues. That is how that cliche goes after all. So I am greatly hoping that's not going to be it for this one.
Obie Bergmann! We get introduced to Obie as Julien's boyfriend. Throughout ep 1, the things we learn about Obie are that he is basically the richest in the group, and lives in Dumbo. (irony from original GG for anyone that can guess it). He appears like a super nice and kind dude, a supportive boyfriend, kind of bland and tired of the relationship but the main thing that bothers me about him so far is his impossible to ignore "white guilt syndrome". For anyone unaware, "white guilt" is "remorse or shame felt by a white person with respect to racial inequality and injustice". While it's not a bad thing trying to make up for the in-equality in the world, here's hoping that's not his entire character cus that would get old quick.
Then we have the bestie, Audrey Hope. Audrey. . . is cold but to the point. Very analysing and observing. Definitely the type of character that would take all the info first and decide what to do after. I both like and am confused by her? Her cold mannerisms are quite enjoyable among the masses of drama and emotion I won't lie. However, i do predict a juicy threesome between her, boyfriend Aki and one Max Wolfe. Honestly, I am highly interested in how their relationship evolves.
Aki Menzies is kind of a mystery as of the moment. As to be expected with just 1 episode, we won't know too much about all the characters. He is the very supportive boyfriend that tries to keep the peace between everyone.
Max Wolfe on the other hand appears like the much more flamboyant version of Chuck Bass, if Chuck Bass had a supportive family environment and no limits on who he's dating. That's more or less for him but kuddos for his 0 hesitation to basically have a pic of his dick sent to everyone. I will never not find that hilarious. But again, between these three is my prediction for some juicy interactions. Cause to be fully honest, the chemistry is undeniable.
Monet de Haan. Ah. She is honestly the savage that we need around here. She is the control and the power behind Julien's brand honestly. I am curious how come she helps Julien with her brand rather than have her own? If we go off anything said in the episode, she is more feared than adored so maybe that's why? But Monet honey, fear can also have a following, just . . a different one.
And then there's Luna La, "The stylist" while we don't know much about her, some of her one liners are actively giving me life. Her and Monet are definitely a package deal and i wonder if there is juicier gossip there that we don't know yet.
Lastly, we have our new Gossip Girl. Young teacher, Kate Keller. I won't lie, i did not see us knowing who GG is from the get go. I am however wondering whether this will drag her down to the level of highschoolers (besides the fact that she looks younger than some of them xD) Something that is bothering me in the reboot however, is that technically, characters that represent adults, spying on minors??? Like they even make the point that "i shouldn't have these, i should be in jail" in regards to having almost naked pictures of the kids. Like it's not really okay??? In the original yea no one knew who GG was but they always knew it was someone their age. The teachers didn't care at those times. But they do now and I am not fully sure how okay it is.
And of course, the extras like some of the other teachers behind GG and the parents. We however, don't know too much about them as of now so we shall see soon. If any new characters are introduced they will be addressed but for now, onto the episode!
The half sisters plot is definitely interesting so I would love to know where the whole middle names thing will go. The story line I'm most interested in at the moment however is between Audrey, Max and Aki. I want to see that unwind into something horrendous but then beautiful! It has so much potential in my opinion. In terms of character development however i want to see who Julien is without all of her fame and followers. When the focus is not the media and the attention. I want to see that Julien.
The first episode definitely introduced us to a lot of things at once so far that is my take on them. I'm sure that in the future both the teachers and parents will be a bigger part but one thing is abundantly clear. Unlike the OGGG, there won't be more than maybe 2-3 seasons depending on the ages of the students. The teachers won't follow them onto college will they? Or will things drastically change along the way? It was rather amusing seeing them talk about all the old characters however, and reference the OG Gossip Girl. I am vaguely offended that they categorised twitter as "a glorified chatroom for memes for people over 30". Like dude. . . that hit me hard. I am happy that FB was never even mentioned as existing tho! Cause let's be honest that is not the "hip" thing anymore. But the rules they put down at the party definitely made my head spin. Had to listen to them twice to even get what was happening.
But that's probably enough of me babbling on about this xD If you want to find this on an apparently dying type of media, here's my blog post about it as well lol: https://acloudkat.wordpress.com/?p=960

Integrity (Part 4)
Ao3 | FF.net
As they claimed their seats, Adrien was aware of dirty looks being thrown in his direction.
Is this how Marinette felt when Lila lied about her?
Alya leaned forward in her seat. “Adrien, I’ll talk to some of the girls. I’ll get them to do that critical thinking thing you mentioned. And I’ll try to get Kim to apologize. What he said was just stupid.”
“Thanks Alya, I appreciate it.”
Miss Bustier entered the room. “Alright class, let’s get started.”
“Miss Bustier!” Rose called, putting her hand up. “I think it’s best if Adrien left. Lila shouldn’t have to be in the same room as her abuser!”
“Abuser? What’s going on?”
Adrien dropped his head into his hands, exasperated.
“Adrien touched Lila inappropriately, and when she told Gabriel about it, he fired her!”
Miss Bustier looked horrified. “Class! This sort of thing is really none of your business! If this did happen, Lila needs to come to talk to me about it in private. I would like to be accommodating, but I find it unfair to deny class to someone without due cause.”
“There is due cause!” Max yelled.
“I have heard nothing about this from Lila herself, or Mr. Damocles. Has a restraining order been filed? Has any sort of investigation been launched? I find it extremely hard to believe Adrien would do something like this.”
“That’s what Gabriel said!” Lila wailed. “He said Adrien was a perfect angel and he’d never do anything wrong! No one’s believed me yet! So why would Mr. Damocles?!”
There was a knock at the door.
Miss Bustier held up a finger, asking for a moment of silence, before she went to open it.
Gabriel Agreste, looking minutely more frazzled than usual, strolled into the room, in person.
Adrien swallowed and clenched his fists.
The room was silent and tense.
“Adrien, may I talk to you out in the hall, in private?”
Trembling, Adrien answered. “No. You read my note.”
“There’s nothing for you to be afraid of. Stop being so dramatic.”
“I think I have every right to be afraid of you.” He whispered, the damn of emotions he had held back all morning just threatening to burst.
Marinette got up from her seat, only to sit next to him, her arm around his shoulders.
The action didn’t go unnoticed by anyone.
Gabriel’s nostrils flared. “Did you tell her?”
“No.” Technically, not a lie. “I haven’t said anything to anyone. She just...saw I was upset.”
“About what?” Asked Kim. “That you lied about Lila?”
Gabriel’s steely gaze pierced Kim, forcing him to shut up. “This is none of your business, shut up.”
Kim swallowed and shrank into his seat.
“Now,” Gabriel continued, hedging his words. “I need to clear up some of what happened last night. It seems that you have assumed the worst. I don’t want to discuss it in front of your peers. Step into the hall with me.”
Marinette squeezed his shoulder.
“No. I don’t want to. I’m not comfortable with that.”
“I don’t care about comfort right now, Adrien. I care about—“ he bit his tongue, censoring himself. “I care about our family.”
“If you care about our family, then know I’m scared of you.”
Gabriel exhaled roughly. “You don’t need to be.”
“The evidence says otherwise.” Adrien spoke softly. “So either say what you need to say, or go. I’m not moving.”
Gabriel ran a hand through his hair, loosing some locks and becoming even more frazzled appearing. “Please?”
Adrien shook his head.
Gabriel rolled his eyes, and considered his words. “I told you I trust you. I’m...sorry, about what happened last night. It wasn’t fair, but I was...paranoid, and frantic. That caused my regrettable actions.”
“Did you ever find it?” Adrien asked.
“No. And I don’t think I will. I have reason to believe I’ve been betrayed. So it’s over.” He breathed a long sigh. “There’s no reason for you to stay away.”
“With all due respect, Father, I need some time to trust you again. And forcing me to come home won’t magically fix that.”
Gabriel was quiet for a moment, clenching and unclenching his fists. It looked like he wanted to yell, to fight, to grab Adrien by the wrist and drag him out.
But he did none of those things.
“You’re a good kid, Adrien. I surmise you’ll be a great man. A better man than I ever was. I’ll give you your space.” He placed Adrien’s phone on the desk. “Just, please text me every once in a while, just so I know you’re safe. Alright?”
Adrien took it. “I can do that.”
“I’m sorry it came to this.” It looked like he had more to say, but he hesitated with so many eyes on him. So he just didn’t say anything and headed for the door.
“Mr. Agreste?” Miss Bustier asked.
He stopped in the doorway.
“It seems like there’s a bit of...a catastrophe going on in my class at the moment. I was hoping you could shed some light on the situation?”
“This is none of your business, Madame. Adrien and I will clear it up.”
“With all due respect, sir. Lila has already gotten everyone involved. My students seem to want Adrien to leave the class.”
He turned and looked at her. “What? Whatever for? She’s got nothing to do with this.”
“Could you explain what Lila said to you yesterday?”
“Miss Rossi?” Gabriel looked back at her, eyebrows furrowed, and then at Adrien. “Oh. I had forgotten. I didn’t speak to Miss Rossi yesterday. Adrien and I had a long talk about trust. He confided that he wasn’t uncomfortable around her because she touched him in a way he didn’t like, and asked that he not model with her anymore. I made the decision to fire her. I served her severance papers, and one of my managers contacted her. I didn’t talk to her at all.”
“Mr. Agreste! How can you be so cruel to me?!” Lila shouted, real betrayal in her voice. “You said you trusted me! I could come to you about any problems I had! And I did! Your son molested me, and you fired me instead of believing me! And now you’re acting like it didn’t even happen!”
“Do you have your severance papers with you?” He asked.
Lila’s eyes widened. “No, they’re at home with my mother.”
“I have a copy on my phone. Along with all severance letters we serve, because they are fairly similar in terms and conditions.” He took it out, and pulled it up. “Here, Madame, if you wouldn’t mind reading this.” He handed the phone to Miss Bustier. “Since Miss Rossi wants an audience, I will give her one.”
Miss Bustier studied the screen for a moment. “This looks like a scanned pdf of a letter, signed by Mr. Agreste. It reads as follows:
“‘Mme. Lila Rossi,
“I regret to inform you that we have decided to terminate your contract with Gabriel as of today. This decision is based on several conditions, as witnessed and corroborated by several Gabriel employees. These conditions include unprofessional behavior on set, including excessive noise when asked to be quiet, not following instructions, and yelling at other staff; tardiness and unexplained absences, falsified resume, and sexual harassment of another Gabriel employee. As per the terms of your contract, you will receive the allotted amount of your last modeling session, as enclosed with this letter. Please be advised as you apply for further employment, putting Gabriel on the application as a reference will automatically forward this letter of termination to your next employer. If you would like to reapply at Gabriel, you may do so after a two year waiting period. A second termination will result in a complete ban from Gabriel, including all positions of employment and communications with employees. Depending on the severity of your terms of termination, Gabriel reserves the right to seek legal compensation.
“Signed, Gabriel Agreste.”
“Thank you,” Gabriel took his phone back. “In case you didn’t realize, I work with a lot of models. There are situations where changing happens in front of other people. We take sexual harassment very seriously. Adrien came to me first about this, and so I acted on it. If you want to counter sue and maintain that he’s at fault, feel free to do so. But, if it turns out you’re lying about this, and it goes to court, you’re looking at jail time.”
Lila swallowed. “I’m not lying. I never lie.”
“Like the time you lied to get into my house? Sure. I’ll see you in court then.”
“Wait...” Lila paled. “We don’t need to take this to court. Just bring me back on as a model, and I’ll drop the whole thing.”
“No.” Gabriel shrugged. “I don’t make any decisions without my lawyer present.” He turned towards the door. “One last thing,” he glanced over his shoulder at Marinette. “Take care of him, Miss Dupain-Cheng. He’s fragile.” And then he left.
Desperate to not lose this game, Lila started her crocodile tears. “No! It can’t be! I can’t afford a lawyer! There’s no way I’ll win this case! I’ll lose just like all the other girls!”
“Wait a second,” Mylene spoke up, hope in her voice. “You were just telling us last week that your uncle is one of the top attorneys in Florence! Surely he’ll help you!”
Oops.
“Oh...yes, I guess...I had forgotten about that.”
“I think you’re going to need a good lawyer if you’re going to continue to lie.” Spoke Chloe, standing up. “I’m sorry Miss Bustier, I think we need to clear this up before class even starts, don’t you think?”
Miss Bustier sighed. “I still maintain that we don’t need to be discussing this, but I know no one is going to be paying attention in class after all of that’s been said.” She walked around the front of her desk, leaning against it with her arms and legs crossed. “This is a very serious issue. This isn’t a courtroom, and I’m not making any judgement calls. If there truly is a problem here between Adrien and Lila, it will be solved in the courtroom.” She narrowed her eyes at her students. “But you all see and talk to each other every day. Rumors and one sided stories are going to spread either way. I’d rather have everyone have the same information and draw their own conclusions to maintain their own relationships. Nothing said here is to leave this classroom. So, let’s talk.”
Marinette had yet to move from Adrien’s side. And she hadn’t spoken since coming into the classroom.
Ever since Miracle Queen, Marinette had been disappointed in Chloe. There had seemed to be some hope for her, and yet Hawkmoth’s—or Gabriel’s rather—temptation to get the bee back had just been too strong.
How many second chances could a girl get? Of course she was going to stand up for Adrien. He was her oldest friend.
Marinette opted to watch patiently and see just where this went.
“Lila, we know what Mr. Agreste said and what his timeline was. What happened to you yesterday, if you would share?”
“I don’t know…it’s just so painful.” Lila wiped a tear away. “But, yesterday, after Marinette burned me with her coffee—“
“When did that happen?” Miss Bustier asked, patiently.
“Right after class. You had a meeting and we were all hanging out and talking. Everyone witnessed it.”
“The coffee was cold, and I tripped.” Marinette defended, exhausted over this plot point.
“Either way,” Lila continued. “I went to the bakery and told Marinette’s mother what she did. She called my mother and told her that I deserved what happened to me!”
Miss Bustier frowned. “Sabine said that?”
“That’s what I’m saying!” Nino scoffed.
“So then I went to Mr. Agreste.”
“Why?” Asked Alya. “What prompted that?”
“W-well at first, I wanted to let Gabriel know what kind of company his son was keeping, but then when I got there, everything spilled out! I confessed that Adrien molested me and he fired me!”
“So, when did you punch Adrien?” Asked Max.
“Afterwards! Adrien came home and he tried to grab me and threaten me! I punched him!”
“What time did that happen?”
“Right after school.”
“I was with Marinette until 8 yesterday. You can ask my bodyguard, and her parents.”
“And I have the text you sent me at 6.” Nino held up his phone. “You were still with her then.”
“Th-then it was after 8!” Lila clarified. “I wasn’t paying attention to time!”
“Okay.” Miss Bustier spoke calmly. “Now, Adrien. What about you?”
His eyes slid over to Marinette’s for reassurance.
She squeezed his hand.
“After the coffee incident, I ran to the locker room to catch up with Marinette. She wasn’t doing well, and I offered to walk her home. Then we noticed an akuma coming after her, so we tried to run. She almost got akumatized, but she fought it off. Then she cried for a while. I stayed and watched out for another akuma. Then, we went to her house just as Lila was leaving. As she passed, she said ‘I’m going to your father next’ while smiling.”
“That’s not true!” Lila shouted.
“Lila, Adrien was quiet and patient through your account. You need to let him speak.”
She huffed and fell into her seat.
“I stayed at her house for a while until my father called, telling me to come home. He said that he ‘knew’ Marinette was violent. I knew that he thought that because of Lila. So I confessed that I didn’t feel safe around her, and that he shouldn’t trust her. He allowed me to stay with Marinette for dinner, and then when I came home, we talked more in length about how I felt. Then…things happened…and well. I don’t want to talk about it. But Lila wasn’t at my house when I came home. Last time I saw her was when she was leaving the bakery.”
“Okay,” nodded Miss Bustier. “You’ve both given your side of the story. You’re both accusing the other of inappropriate behavior. One of you is lying. But until you admit it, we’ll never know. But, this moment will shape the perceptions of your classmate’s opinions. I hope everyone sees how dangerous lying and manipulating is. Does anyone have anything they want to say as character testimony?”
Chloe raised her hand. “Adrikins, I’m going to put you on blast.” She grinned wickedly at him.
He shrugged, helpless.
“Adrien Agreste, male model, top student, all around great guy, is desperately, hopelessly, and pathetically in love with one Ladybug.”
Nino snickered from Adrien’s side. “Oh, we been knew.”
“Every time Adrien and I talked, he would dissolve into talking about one of three women. A. His mother, of whom he missed dearly and was a saint of a woman. 2. Marinette Dupain-Cheng, of whom he respects and admires. And lastly, and most importantly, Ladybug. He talks about her the most. Ladybug this, Ladybug that. I love—loved Ladybug as much as the next girl but honestly, it was a little annoying. ‘I wonder how soft her hair is. Are her eyes the same bluebell blue without the mask? I wonder how far she could throw me? Do you think we could make it work if we dated?’” She mocked a gagging sound. “Never once did say anything sexual about her. Never did he ever mention Lila. And never has he had any sort of romantic relationship with anyone.”
There were nods around the classroom, as students agreed with this logic.
“However. Lila has lied to me, personally. She told me she had a secret code that got Ladybug to come to her when she needed help. It didn’t work, and I almost got akumatized over it. Furthermore, as we have already discussed, it was Lila’s evidence that got Marinette expelled, and Lila’s admission to having some stupid disease that reversed the punishment. Are all of you numb nuts starting to see the pattern here?”
Nino stood, ready to present his own opinions. “Lila has promised us connections. She’s boasted about people she knows to get us parties, favors, and whatever else we need. But not once has she followed through. And not to mention all the ailments she’s claimed to have.”
“It’s not fair to pick on someone for being disabled, Nino.” Kim argued back.
“I’m not. Because she’s not disabled.” He pulled up his tablet. “I started keeping a list of her ailments, so Alya and I could make sure everything we did as a class was inclusive to her.” He raised a brow. “I don’t think Lila keeps track of her own illnesses.” He cleared his throat. “Ahem. Tinnitus in the left ear. Tinnitus in the right ear. Arthritis in the left wrist, arthritis in the right wrist. Ulnar necrosis in the left wrist. Fibromyalgia. Multiple Sclerosis. Cystic fibrosis. Asthma. Glaucoma. Seizures. Vertigo. OCD. ADHD. High blood pressure. Low blood pressure. Heart murmur. Anemia. Allergic to wheat, dairy, gluten, chocolate, soy, nuts, mold, shellfish, corn, cats, dogs, feathers, wool, polyester, and hot peppers.”
“That’s all correct.” Lila stated cooly.
“Except you eat pasta for every meal, and you only mention your allergies when someone brings in food, making yourself the center of attention. And you never seem like you’re in any pain unless it’s convenient to get out of an activity. My grandma has MS, and it’s no joke. Also, I double checked with the nurse this morning to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I shared my list with her, and she was really concerned because she didn’t have any of that on your file. She only had one thing written down. Do you know what it was?”
Lila just stared at him, daring him.
“Mythomania. Pathological lying. So your lying disease was the only truth you told. I deduce this was put on your file after you told Mr. Damocles.”
Lila frowned at him. “Nino! I thought we were friends! How could you turn on me and lie like this? I know you and Adrien are friends but—“
“But nothing! Lila, you’re not my friend! You don’t listen to me, you don’t remember things I tell you, unless you can twist them to your favor! I mention an artist I like? You suddenly know them. You inspired them. But they’re shy and don’t meet with fans. I mention a movie I like? You were there during production. You know the director. But he’s out of the country on holiday. It’s the same story over and over. What’s my brother’s name?”
Lila stammered. “It’s...it’s Mark!”
“It’s Chris, and you’ve babysat him before!”
“I have short term memory loss!”
Marinette snapped her fingers. “Nino, make sure to add that to her list of illnesses.”
“Oh my god.” Alya breathed.
“What?”
“That right there. I saw it. Her lying in real time. She didn’t even hesitate, just lied to cover her tracks. She’s been doing that the whole time!”
“That’s what I’ve been saying.” Marinette stated, calmly.
“I noticed this not too long ago,” continued Nino. “I assumed she was just exaggerating for attention. A storyteller. It was harmless. But yesterday, when she outed Marinette’s crush, lied about the coffee, and then went to tattle at the bakery? That was too much. I realized her lying wasn’t just telling stories. She was really dangerous. Especially in a time with Akumas.”
Marinette and Adrien both tried not to smile, hiding the joy that that wasn’t a problem anymore.
“So what’s it going to be, Lila?” Chloe asked, arms crossed. “Are you going to fess up now? Or are you going to go to court with Mr. Agreste and face jail time?”
Lila’s jaw shifted as she gnawed on her tongue. “Can I speak without being interrupted?”
Chloe scoffed. “Only if you aren’t going to lie your way out of this.”
Lila narrowed her eyes at her, but didn’t reply. Instead, she explained, “some of my stories are exaggerated.”
Someone snorted.
“I wanted to be the interesting new girl. I didn’t mean any harm in it. I was just telling you all what you wanted to hear. But apparently this was horrible according to Marinette. She threatened me in the bathroom, and said that she was going to expose me as a liar. I told her that that wasn’t going to happen. But she insisted that the truth was more important to her than friendship. I think it was jealousy. Adrien was being friendly, and Alya interviewed me. Suddenly, all her hard work and generosity didn’t matter, because I was more interesting. She kept up warning me, reprimanding me like I was a child, and trying to humiliate me in front of everyone. I knew the only peace I was going to get would be to get her to leave.”
Alya folded her arms. “So you…fabricated evidence to get her expelled?”
“To be honest, I just wanted to shake her up, get her to realize what she was messing with was dangerous and unfair. I didn’t know Mr. Damocles was going to expel her.”
“Shake me up? Is that what you were trying to do when you laid on the floor at the bottom of the stairs and pretended I pushed you down?”
“You wouldn’t back off!”
“I just wanted you to be honest with people! Lying like you were was going to lead to disappointment! I didn’t want you hurting my friends!”
“That’s a fine excuse. But are you sure you weren’t a little bit jealous?”
Marinette groaned. “Jealous? No. Worried? Yes. I didn’t like the way you were hanging off of Adrien—”
“Oh, like the way you’re hanging off him now?”
Marinette prepared to retort, before Adrien wrapped his arms around her, and hugged her tightly.
“She’s not hanging off of me,” Adrien explained. “She’s the only thing keeping me steady right now.”
Nino was quick to squeeze his shoulder in reassurance.
Marinette hugged Adrien tight, and then continued. “I was worried about the way you were hanging around with Adrien. Like I said, the lies you were telling could only lead to disappointment, like it has with Nino. You might think they’re harmless, but when you constantly let someone down, you do a lot of damage.”
Something about that sentence got Adrien right in the gut. It was just like his father. He was trying hard to save his mother, and thought disappointing Adrien wasn’t a big deal in the long run. But instead, he left lasting damage. Self doubt, trust issues, and hopelessness. Marinette was right.
“Oh, like you don’t lie and bail on everyone all the time anyways? Do you know how many times I had to pick up babysitting for Alya and Nino because you suddenly ‘forgot’ about some other obligation? Or all the times you gave a flimsy excuse to leave a hang out? Alya told me all about it. You’re hiding something big.”
Miss Bustier spoke up. “This conversation is supposed to be solving what happened between Lila and Adrien, whatever Marinette has to do in her free time has nothing to do with it.”
“I think it does!” Lila argued. “It’s very hypocritical for Marinette to point her finger at me and call me a liar, when she’s doing the same thing!”
Miss Bustier frowned. “She has been slacking in her representative duties…”
Marinette gaped at her. “I thought you were on my side!”
“I’m staying neutral.” Miss Bustier said firmly. “I think it’s important we get our grievances out so we can have a more wholesome learning environment. It’s up to you to answer. You’re not under oath.”
Marinette frowned. True, she could lie. Though it would be a really sucky time to do so. Furthermore, Hawkmoth was gone, so her identity wasn't as crucial to hide. But she really didn’t want Lila to know, especially after that stunt she pulled with Oni-chan.
“Whatcha thinking about, Marinette?” Asked Lila, “trying to come up with a convincing lie?”
“I’m trying to weigh the consequences of telling this truth. Because it’s not just my secret. So therefore, it’s not right to share it. I haven’t done anything wrong, so I don’t think I’ll explain myself.” She shrugged.
“Petty.” Lila bit.
“I think it’s fair.” Alya disagreed. “If it’s something that affects others, she shouldn’t have to share.”
It affected everyone in Paris actually, not just her and Chat Noir. And so Marinette let out a breath of relief.
“Okay,” stated Alix, trying to clarify what had happened. “So, Marinette knew you were lying, so you ‘accidentally’ got her expelled to get her to leave you alone. But what I don’t understand is why you’re bringing up beef with Adrien all of a sudden. We thought you guys were together, and you modeled together…and then he started dating Kagami. What’s the story there?”
“I’m not dating Kagami.” Adrien clarified. “I considered it, but…I don’t actually have any feelings for her. I just didn’t know how to say no. But as I said, I told my father I didn’t like the way she was touching me. This had been going on for a while…”
“What prompted you to tell your dad?” Alya asked.
“Well, after what happened yesterday after class, I walked Marinette home. She had almost gotten akumatized, and I wanted to watch over her. Lila had gone to the bakery and told Sabine her side of the story. She was about to bring down the hammer, but I asked her if she trusted Marinette. That…that made me wonder if my father trusted me. If I could go to him with my problems and he would understand. Lila went to him and told him her side of the story as well, and he called me home. But I asked if he trusted me, and then told him I didn’t like Lila and…well, everything else. We continued the conversation when I got home. I’m assuming that since I actually made a stand, he took it seriously.”
“Wait wait,” Alya spoke. “Lila, you went to tattle at the bakery, and to Gabriel?”
”I thought Gabriel should know about the kind of friends he’s keeping.”
Adrien laughed. It wasn’t a funny laugh, it was actually very painful, as he remembered a cutting blow from last night. “Lila spied on me for my father. He used her to find out what was going on in class.”
“Ew.” Nino stated. “That’s super skeevy.”
“Um, I’m a spy? Why don’t you talk to little miss ‘I followed Adrien and Lila and fished a book out of the trash’?”
Heads swiveled back to Marinette.
“You should be glad I followed you! Adrien got taken out of school for losing that book! He’d be gone for good if I hadn’t rescued it from the trash! You stole it from him and threw it away!”
The heads swiveled back to Lila.
“How was I supposed to know it was important?”
Marinette threw her hands up in the air. “It doesn’t matter! It didn’t belong to you! So don’t throw it away!”
“You know, I’m glad you brought that day up, Lila. Because that was when I knew you had a lying problem.”
“You knew she was a liar a long time ago?” Asked Nino.
“Of course. But I didn’t know she was being malicious. Like you, I thought she might just be lying to get attention. In fact, it worked for a little bit. I thought she really was friends with Ladybug. But then Ladybug herself came up to us and blew that lie out of the water.”
Lila jutted out her jaw, trembling with anger.
“Ladybug called her out too?” Asked Alya.
“It makes sense,” Adrien continued. “Why would Ladybug be happy about anyone claiming to be a weakness to her? Alya, you were already targeted a lot just as the leader of the Ladyblog. Of course she’d be pissed about a civilian painting a giant target on their back.”
Alya gasped, “oh my god! I didn’t even think about that when I posted that interview! Lila, you could have been targeted and hurt! Not just by Akuma, but anyone else who wanted to know Ladybug’s identity!”
“Well, nothing happened.” Lila shrugged. “Ladybug and Chat Noir would protect me no matter what, anyways!”
“Yes, like how Chat Noir saved you from Kagami when you ‘twisted your ankle’?” He put in quotes.
Lila gaped. “How did you know about that?”
Marinette was wondering the same thing.
“Chat Noir helped me sneak a bag out of my room last night. Then we talked.”
“Oh, so now you’re friends with Chat Noir?” Kim scoffed.
“Not particularly. He helped me out a whole lot last night, but I haven’t spoken to him much before that.”
“Ugh, you keep mentioning last night like it was the biggest thing that’s ever happened, and yet you refuse to talk about it! Now Chat Noir was there? What else?”
“Adrien has already stated that whatever happened between him and his father is private and that they don’t want to talk about it.” Miss Bustier reminded, patiently. “If it has nothing to do with Lila, then I don’t think he needs to bring it up.”
“But isn’t omitting the truth still lying?” Asked Lila. “Both Marinette and Adrien are being dishonest and hiding things, and I find it extremely unfair to be accused of lying if they aren’t telling the truth!”
“And I think if whatever they’re hiding has nothing to do with you, Lila, it doesn’t need to be brought up.” Said Alya, crossing her arms.
“Alya! You don’t believe me? What about standing with your fellow woman?”
Alya frowned. “Okay, Adrien’s been my friend longer than you, and I find it hard to believe he’d do anything wrong. And second, I’m supposed to believe you because we’re both girls?”
Kim shot to his feet, “As I said previously, men can’t be molested! Especially models! I think you’re just being a coward, Agreste!”
Adrien hunched his shoulders.
Seeing the opportunity for a teaching moment, Alix reached over and grabbed Kim’s butt, making him yelp and shuffle away.
“What the hell was that?!”
“What? Didn’t like it?” Alix asked with a coy smile.
“Uh, no? Not from you.”
“Because you aren’t attracted to me?”
“I mean, yeah?”
“Now imagine if I was Lila and you’re Adrien.”
It was like a lightbulb went off above Kim’s head. “Oh.” He turned to look at Adrien. “I get it. I’m so sorry.”
“While I don’t agree with the method,” Miss Bustier explained, “I’m glad you see what the problem is, Kim. No one should be touched without their permission, no matter how ‘attractive’ the perpetrator is.”
“Attractiveness is a sliding scale anyways.” Added Alya, “just because some people find Lila and Adrien attractive, doesn’t mean everyone does. And Adrien already mentioned he’s not attracted to Lila.”
“Yeah, I guess…I just don’t see it. Lila is really pretty!”
Adrien just shrugged. “She’s just not my type.” He looked to the teacher. “Miss Bustier, I think we’re kind of going around in circles at this point. Can we wrap this up?”
“Sure. Does anyone have anything else they want to add or need clarification on?”
Everyone shook their heads.
“Good. I’m sorry to air out dirty laundry, but I really wanted to avoid gossip. Right now, this classroom is your world. When you grow up, scandals and mistakes will be made by all sorts of people. I want to teach you now to do your research and not just blindly follow whatever source you find first. Alright?”
“But we didn’t solve anything.” Rose lamented.
“Our goal was not to find out who did what to who. It was to bring both sides of the story forward, and allow everyone to consider who they are going to believe versus who they won’t. It’s up to you to decide if you are loyal even when faced with deception. And if you can be open-minded enough to listen to others.”
The room was silent as she let them all milk over that thought.
“Then let’s get into today’s social studies lesson. I think there’s some practical crossovers between what just happened.”

Sorry if you’ve already answered this but J was wondering if you could talk more the girls childhood/growing up? Love what you’re doing btw, absolutely adore how you’ve basically recreated the Winx world! 💗
Thank you!!! and sure thing! long post ahead
BLOOM: she never really had any problems family wise, Vanessa and Mike told her she was adopted at like…. Age 7 or so (in a positive affirming way obvi) and even if any kids teased her about it she never doubted her parent’s love for her. Even with Daphne’s spell helping her blend in with earth life, Bloom still had a nagging sense she didn’t “fit”, and got lost in fantasy books and art whenever possible. Growing up she deals with some body image issues that probably stem from the whole wrong fit feeling. Bloom grew up an artistic and quiet kid, Mitzi and Selina were her best friends from childhood, and because they both had really strong personalities, Bloom often repressed her own feelings in order to play peace maker. Up until high school, where Mitzi, who was always the leader, slowly started to turn into a bully in order to gain the approval/fear of her peers, targeting Selina specifically. Bloom was more of a follower at the time and just didn’t want to loose her friends so she didn’t stand up to Mitzi but tried to treat Selina as if nothing had changed, which was not cool with Selina and she not-so-subtly started to reject Bloom as a friend. Bloom, for her part, did get her shit together and stand up to Mitzi, loosing her only other friend right before her senior year of highschool (she was still technically friends with Andy but they had also just broken up and everything was awkward lmao). Bloom regrets not standing up to Mitzi sooner, and wants to rekindle her friendship with Selina (and Mitzi if she’s willing to tone down the bitchiness).
STELLA: So Stella’s childhood is a little more complicated. Stella is the first SoLuna heir in Solarian history, and a very loud minority protested her very existence. Stella also had to stay close to the Second Sun of Solaria as a child, so she had a very solitary and confined early childhood in a wing of the Solarian castle. When she did figure out how to sneak out she was only 10 or so, and spent most of the time just wandering around the capital city. She didn’t have any problems in the city, but an off duty guard recognized her and took her back to the palace. Stella was then sent to an elite boarding school under a false name (Sasha), she formed close friends with Nova and Varanda, but the trio was the target of the rest of the school’s bullies (for various reasons). Junior high was peak nerd Stella, but she “princess Diary-ed” herself when starting high school and started placing all of her value in her appearance and status as a sex object. Her parents’ marriage was also starting to crumble and Stella felt like she had lost their love. Because Stella craves validation and affection, this lead to a couple bad relationships because the only way she could get people to “love her” in her brain was through physical intimacy, even if it didn’t really fill the void she felt. Nova and Varanda were her rocks during this period and Stella was able to learn to love herself first with their help. Stella was insanely nervous to leave her friends and go to Alfea, and tried to force friendships with other people originally, (this mostly lead to people thinking she was annoying and getting multiple censures from Griselda), and her first genuine connection on Magix was with “Prince Sky” (Brandon). Nova and Varanda were VERY worried when Stella first told them about “Prince Sky”(Brandon) and how fast they had gotten into a relationship and they may have stalked/threatened him on a visit to Stella but they eventually came around and started to like him. Stella being expelled was only kind of an accident, Varanda texted Stella in the middle of a Chemancy class her application to Alfea for the next year had been accepted and Stella got SUPER excited and blew up the classroom. She probably could have stayed in school but her response to Fraragona and Griselda’s “now what do you have to say for yourself young lady” was *giddy laughter* and “ i only wish the explosion had been big enough to send me forward to next year!!!!!” and griselda was like “either she goes or I go” and Stella was like “ya gurl i gone” of course her time back on Solaria didn’t go exactly as planned as her parents were just fighting every time they tried to do something together making her people pleasing/self blaming tendencies worse.
FLORA: ahhh my baby So Flora does remember her father, not a lot and she feel guilty she doesn’t remember more, but she was only 7 when he died. Alyssa remarried when Flora was 13, and eventually she adjusted to having a younger sister who she loves very much now. Due to Rhodos’s nature preservation needing a lot of room for study Flora and Miele grew up pretty far away from any town and didn’t have a lot of friends. This is primarily why Flora and Miele are so close despite their age difference, and why Flora took her role as protector so intensely; she was the only one there (I mean besides the parents obviously). Flora did well in school though she was quiet and reserved, which made making friends even harder than living in the middle of nowhere. She figured out the best way to make people like her was to give them what they wanted, and this snowballed into Flora becoming kind of doormat not comfortable with voicing her true feelings and faking a lot what people expected from her. Flora has a lot of repressed…… everything (Bloom mostly just has a lot of repressed anger she’s good with other emotions lmao) she has trouble identifying what she’s feeling and for the most part is content to leave her feelings buried as long as the surface remains calm. The Winx do help her start to access her feeling more, and encourage her whenever she does voice an opinion. Helia is a perfect match for her in the sense that his quiet nature leaves Flora to express herself without trying to mold herself into whatever she thinks he wants (of course on the flip side this also means Flora and Helia have issues with communication and repression but that’s another topic).
AISHA: hoo boy another complicated one. Aisha was raised in a strict environment, this mostly stems from her parents and their more…. anxious natures, but royalty on Andros is not as free as some of the other planets. Aisha’s world consisted of lessons and adults and rules and she had very little control over her own life. Aisha met Anne in a rare moment of freedom in the tidal gardens where Anne’s father worked. Anne was biding her time waiting for her dad to get off work so they could grab some dinner and was dancing. Aisha just watched her for a while before Anne noticed her and asked her if she wanted to play. The two formed a fast friendship, and Aisha finally started to feel like she had some sort of influence in her own life as she snuck out of lessons to play with Anne every evening she could(obviously their favorite thing to do was dance lol) Unfortunately Anne and her father disappeared one night. Aisha lost her only friend, the only social outlet she had, her one source of freedom, and couldn’t even figure out what had happened. Feeling so out of control lead to a pretty bad anxiety disorder for most of her teens, primarily triggered by the dark or being trapped in some way. She also has issues trusting others and letting people help her. Aisha started to act out, trying to exert any kind of control and relieve some of her anxiety. Her risk taking behavior got pretty bad, but she had started to tone it down after she met and bonded with Piff(royal business trip to Magix she skipped out on). Of course when the pixies went missing she wasn’t going to let her friendship vanish again and tracked them down with a not so healthy single minded determination.
TECNA: born to higher class parents, Tecna had greatness thrust upon her from an early age. She received extra training and education basically from birth, which she was fine with for the most part. Tecna grew up being able to handle academic pressure very well and met all of her teacher’s and parent’s expectations. She and Riven had a brief collision as preteens in a school before Riven got expelled. Tecna’s one issue was that of her emotional intelligence, Zenith doesn’t really place an emphasis on that, so she was able to advance through high school very predictably until she attended a non-Zenith based workshop for magic. She found herself socially ostracized and very very confused. Of course Tecna had never met a subject she couldn’t master and emotions wouldn’t be an exception right??? Wrong. Zenith’s information about the brain and the chemicals produced was of no help, her teachers and parents didn’t understand why Tecna suddenly had this new interest in such an illogical subject, and worst of all, Tecna realized she didn’t understand her own brain chemicals. Tecna had a mini existential crisis, realized she had no idea what she even wanted to do with her life or why it mattered and applied to the Alfea Fairy program because “FAIRY MAGIC EMOTION MAGIC HELP” also it would offer her strong emotional experiences(transformations basically require it), the opportunity to work closely in groups, and personally obverse her dorm-mates emotional states. She got way more than she bargained for but doesn’t regret it a bit.
MUSA: my angst child T-T so basically, the first half of her childhood is p good, her parents work really hard and don’t always have enough money but the family unit is pretty stable. At around 12, Musa’s mom gets sick. Nobody is too worried at first, but she never seems to get better and she takes a big turn for the worse when Musa is about 16, Matlin is finally diagnosed with Core Failure Syndrome. CFS is similar to Core Fatigue, but while Core Fatigue can be remedied fairly easily with rest and magic, CFS is virtually incurable unless it’s caught really early. The causes are still unknown, and the symptoms (fatigue, nausea, cognition issues, and muscle weakness) can be prolonged but mild until it’s too late. In the later stages (extreme fatigue, numbness in the extremities, chest pain, joint pain, memory/focus issues, inability to keep food down) all you can do is try to make the afflicted comfortable. Ho-boe is understandably distraught, and tries to freelance write for music but goes into a pretty bad depressive state. Musa has a few odd jobs here and there, and thats mostly what’s keeping them afloat among heavy medical debt. Musa latches on to her mother for emotional support as Ho-boe is super dissociated. When Matlin does pass as Musa turns 18, Ho-boe finally breaks, and violently destroys every last reminder of Matlin because he can’t deal with the pain. Musa, who has suddenly had her one emotional anchor cut off, is super freaked out and scared by this and it really damages their relationship going forward. Musa becomes incredibly anxious, and can’t really process her mother's death because her father won’t talk about it with her and is still shut off emotionally. Moving to Magix only worsened it as Musa rebelled and went after music with a desperate passion. Applying to Alfea was a way for Musa to get out of the house, and she and her father weren’t on speaking terms when she did leave for the college. Musa had planned on learning more magic to further her career as a musician, special effects infusing magic into a song rubbing shoulders with rich and well connected people who could possibly get her connected to the big shots in music….. The winx situations had her change some of her long term plans a little, but her connection with the group + her separation anxiety and fierce loyalty didn’t really leave any other choice lol

FFXIV Write Entry #28: Humiliations Galore
Prompt: irenic | Master Post | On AO3
This fill is partially in response to @ahlis-xiv‘s fill for ultracrepidarian, which you can read HERE! (And it goes without saying you should read her other fills and assorted writing, too!) The Ahlis mentioned herein, of course, belongs to her. \o/
--
Synnove felt her face twist into something foul and ugly and absolutely capable of curdling milk as she stared down at the letter on her desk. Halulu took one look at her and immediately fled back to the relative safety of her own office one floor down.
The envelope was fine vellum, waxed to protect its contents, tied with twine and the tie further sealed with wax. It was unremarkable, really, and appeared no different from any other important missive that Mealvaan’s Gate might receive from near and far.
Save for the seal of the University of Radz-at-Han pressed into the wax.
Synnove’s lip curled up in a sneer.
Mama, just open it, Galette sighed from her usual perch draped around her shoulders.
Synnove grimaced, but reached for the envelope and slid it closer to herself on the desk. She wedged her thumbnail beneath the wax seal and wiggled back and forth until it popped off, then slid the vellum from the twine and opened the flap. Reaching in, she pulled out two letters, folded over and individually sealed with different wax and stamps, at which she frowned.
And then raised her eyebrows as she noticed the thicker letter of the two, the one closed by deep red wax with a plain stamp, had writing in a very familiar hand on the outside.
READ THE OTHER ONE FIRST.
Now, what in the six hells was Thaisie Valeroyant up to?
Synnove stared with narrow, suspicious eyes at the letter from the Chair of the Department of Arcanima from the University of Radz-at-Han’s College of Mathematics, drumming her fingers on her desk for long moments as she mentally flicked through a list of possibilities. Finally, she let out a heavy sigh and scowled, snatching up the other letter, popping the wax seal, and unfolding it.
My dearest Mistress Greywolfe—
Synnove dropped the parchment, recoiling with a disgusted shriek. Galette HISSED, rising to a crouch as she bared her teeth and bristled her fur, tails lashing.
She knew that handwriting, knew that deep blue ink, knew that absolutely repulsive cologne that wafted into her face.
The first letter was in her hand in an instant, wax seal ripped off and parchment unfolded.
I promise, Synnove, the other letter is worth soiling your fingers and eyes.
Synnove ground her teeth, rage roiling through her, but she took a deep breath through her nose for a five count. Held it for another five count. Let it out with a final five count.
“Thaisie, you are going to owe me so much alcohol,” she muttered under her breath. She set down Thaisie’s letter and reached up to pet Galette, soothing them both for a few moments. Then, she picked up one of the half-sticks of graphite from the pile in the corner of her desk, and used it to poke the other letter flat, sneering as she did. Once that was done, she threw the graphite into her trash bin.
Finally, with a grimace, she leaned over her desk to read the letter from Bahram Zarir.
Synnove sat back after the first flowery paragraph and exchanged a confused look with Galette. “Did he actually…?”
I think so? Galette chittered, ears flat against her head.
They leaned forward again to read the next paragraph.
“…Ah. Never mind. He still, in fact, has his head shoved up his ass so far that the apple on his throat is actually his nose. Good gods, how as he gone this long without developing critical thinking skills, or the ability to remember what he wrote in a previous paragraph?”
She continued reading, occasionally muttering comments such as, “My gods, you absolutely disgusting piece of worm-ridden filth,” to which Galette snickered. Finally, she reached the end of the letter, and slid back into her chair.
And started giggling.
It evolved into a full body guffaw, rising from deep in her belly, and Synnove bent over as she howled with laughter, for so hard and so long it became silent heaving that shook her whole body. Galette sighed and rolled her eyes, holding on as her perch pitched to and fro. As Synnove finally calmed again, she brushed tears from her eyes.
“Oh, my gods, that was hilarious,” she wheezed. “Gods, I only hope I’m there on the day his hubris gets his sorry plagiarizing ass killed so I can laugh him all the way to the Hell of Water. What a cunt.”
Still chortling and catching her breath, Synnove carefully picked up Bahram Zarir’s letter with the very tip of her thumb and forefinger, and dumped it in the trash.
“Please remind me to get Ivar to burn that later,” she said, wiping her hand on her pants.
Yes, Mama!
Then, finally, she picked up Thaisie’s letter to read.
He really is such a prick, isn’t he? It’s a wonder he hasn’t become a victim of Thavnairian politics, but then he’s probably too thick to be a credible threat to any of his relatives or their myriad enemies. Just a shame we got stuck with him. I’m fairly certain the dean was dreaming about defenestrating him and a few other of the legacy children during the last open thesis read.
In any event, I thought you might enjoy the attached to make up for the toad’s sorry attempt at civility: a copy of the abstract for Master Zarir’s latest article. It’s still technically in peer review, but you’re a peer, as dirty as that no doubt makes you feel. Do what you will with this.
Also, yes, I know, I owe you alcohol. I already have a nice bottle of arak picked out for the next time Thubyrgeim allows you off your leash, or I’m able to attend a Lominsan conference.
Kisses!
Thaisie
“You’re such an asshole, Thaisie,” Synnove said fondly, shuffling the parchment to the second page. Zarir’s greatest weakness as a researcher was that frequently, he did have original ideas…but was frankly terrible at the execution and he outright stole others’ work in bits and pieces and tried to make a whole from it that fell apart if one breathed on it too hard. So, what trash was he on about now?
She read the abstract once. Blinked. Read it again, slower this time, than gave it a third pass.
Synnove set the parchment down flat on her desk, mind racing.
Zarir’s article was in peer review, and therefore it wasn’t public knowledge or in open circulation; the only individuals with copies would be Zarir, the reviewers, and Thaisie. He wouldn’t be able to add anything, with how the University handled its legacies’ attempts at academia, the peer review was mostly for show and the article would be published in the latest issue of their mathematics journal. There would be no turnaround time for Zarir.
And there was no way for anyone else to possibly know what he was publishing. Further, it was incredibly common for academics to hit on similar ideas and develop them in parallel without knowing until the other was published.
Zarir’s idea was similar to that of someone else’s here at the Gate. Oh, not hugely similar, but enough for the mainstays in the field to have a solid guess of which articles either had been reading and drawing inspiration from. But Ahlis had gone off in a completely different direction and what was more, her math was sound, the research actually done rather than theorized, and with a high chance of her succeeding and creating a new breakthrough in arcanima. And Ahlis’s work was ready for presentation at the upcoming research symposium. At which a few of the Hannish—not Zarir, if only because the dean didn’t want to deal with the political fallout of letting him set foot in Limsa Lominsa and the resulting murder—from the University would be attending.
Synnove smiled, slow and deliberate and sharklike, a dark chuckle rising in her throat, as she reached for a piece of fresh parchment and a graphite stick. She was quite thankful now that she hadn’t replied to Ahlis’s note just yet.
Ahlis,
I think you are more than ready! You’ve done your due diligence, even surpassed it, in laying your foundation. I still cannot find flaws in the theorems and equations you’ve laid out—your mathematics might need the occasional proofing, but your grasp of the principles is superb, and we’ve all needed a second set of eyes on our work when we’ve looked at the numbers for too long.
You are an excellent arcanist, Ahlis. As intimidating as it is to present research, the symposium presents a wonderful opportunity to receive feedback and collaborate on further avenues to explore your hypothesis. And, if word on the grapevine is true, I have no doubt your work will be leaving certain members of our community absolutely green with envy.
Give ‘em hell!
-Synnove
She signed with a flourish and folded the letter into neat thirds, wrote Ahlis’s name on it, and bound it with some of the leftover twine from Thaisie’s packet. “Amandina, Roksana,” she called out as she tied off the string, “would you like to run an errand for me?”
The twins poked their heads over the edge of their basket, the picture book they had been carefully pawing through forgotten. Their ears stood straight up, noses twitching in excitement—and then they were tumbling out of the basket and darting right for Synnove’s desk. Oh oh oh yes yes yes! they peeped excitedly. Errand errand errand we can do it!
The carbunclets skidded to a halt at their mama’s feet and looked up at her with huge eyes, their mass of tails shaking with excitement. Galette huffed, exasperated as always with their endless amounts of energy, but didn’t otherwise say anything as Synnove leaned over with the letter in hand.
“Do you remember where the Gate’s mailroom is?” she said, solemn.
Yeah!
The arcanist held out the letter, and Amandina very carefully accepted it, clamping down with her teeth to hold it firmly.
“Bring this down to the mailroom,” Synnove said, “and give it to Coster, and only Coster. He’ll make sure it’s delivered to its intended recipient! And then, once you’re done, come right back here, all right?”
Okay, Mommy! warbled Amandina, a determined set to her face.
We’ll be right back! said Roksana with a peppy chirp.
Then, rather than turn and trundle towards the door to her office, as Synnove thought they would, Roksana took one of Amandina’s ears into her mouth, and with a pop! of displaced air they were…gone.
Dead silence, as arcanist and carbuncle both stared, jaws hanging open, at the space the twins had been in just a few moments before.
“When did they learn to do that?” Synnove said, faint and bewildered.
I dunno. Galette tilted her head. Can I learn how to do that?
“Absolutely not, you’ll use it to break into the coldbox for my pies.”
Galette slumped into a full body sulk.
