Ive seen a lot of bitching about hotd in the tag, which surprised me bc there was none of this two weeks ago and now all these ppl are acting like season 2 sucks and its badly written and its rewriting the books and bla bla. This surprised me, so i did a little snooping

Like. First off, isnt grrm consulting them this time? I know he was doing it for s1 and im sure i read he was doing s2 too. I cant say anything about bad writing, tbh i havent examined it that closely bc nothing about pacing or dialogue has bothered me enough to spend time thinking about it.

The "its not like the book!!!" Thing really bothers me though bc have you read the book? Lmao im not so sure bc some of the stuff you complain about is so weird, also how did you miss that fire & blood has deeply unreliable narrators? It literally says gyldayn is an unreliable narrator on the Wikipedia, hes taking a bunch of biased sources and kind of patches the history of house targaryen together. If you had read the book, youd KNOW that it isnt a definitive chronicle and stuff was likely altered, embellished and left out. Some of the alterations make sense, because why would some maester know about these ppls private lives. Fire and blood is full of propaganda, rumours and bias. Also the stuff that WAS changed isnt really that deep? I really like the change to the rhaenicent dynamic (ill come back to this, theres a reason ppl seem to hate this change lmao), i dont care about maelor and the nettes changes dont bother me that much? (Some ppl are convinced rhaena will get the ENTIRE nettles storyline. Which would indeed suck cough cough, but i dont think thats where theyre going at all lmao)

So i took a look at some of the other opinions of ppl who really really HATE s2 and, WOOOOOOWWWWW,there sure is a lot of homophobia on the yuri Website huh? All of a sudden it makes sense why these ppl popped up 2 weeks ago huh? (And why theyre so bitchy about the changes to alicents character not being a wicked stepmother but more of an... almost lover) Wow, what a fucking pathetic reason to be a hater. Awww nooooooooo this female character is kissing women noooo, theyre ruined!! Even though the relationship was kind of maybe sort of a little implied in the book. (Granted the book talks about a close relationship between rhaenyra, mysaria and DAMON, but see above for rumours and inaccuracies) Also there are a lot of ppl who were genuinely Team green (i did not realise those ppl existed unironically, gonna be honest) who are mad that Team green is portrayed more negatively than Team black and apparently thats unfair. Yeah, idk what to say about that, do you always expect to opposing sides of a fictional conflict to be treated the same and to be equally good and justified? Granted, the "pick a side" Marketing was dumb and encouraged this sort of thinking, but those two teams are not equal lol you can still like the characters even though theyre cheaters, usurpers and Bad ppl.

If you had genuinely read and UNDERSTOOD the books and that theyre full of propaganda you would understand why SOME PPL are either portrayed more positively or more negatively in the show than they were in the book. Just consider WHO was writing the history for one sec.

Yeah, rant over, this was just too ridiculous not to get off my chest.

Like yeah, you can criticise some of the changes and the simple fact that 8 ep seasons are SHIT for building a plot, but considering some ppl call an ep "filler" just because nobody got roasted by a dragon, maybe we dont deserve 20 ep seasons with a slow building of plot and tension anymore....

Hi i havent read the books post-resurrection so im kinda lost on why you dont like phase 2 val? She was easily one of my favourite characters ever, she was flawed (and the books took time to acknowledge them) and relatable and still really admirable (intelligent, brave, loyal) and i really liked her and really appreciated that she wasn’t perfect unlike every other young adult heroines. What went wrong😢😢😢😢

Okay I'm gonna put this under a cut because I very strongly dislike phase 2 val and I know it bugs people who don't feel the same, so. Dead dove dont eat

Okay so first off, phase 1 val and phase 2 val are completely different people. literally. phase 1 val was based on an ex-friend of lardo's who used to apparently be involved pretty heavily in like, editing the books and "she'd react like this" or "val wouldn't say that", and that val she was one of my favourite fictional characters from when book one came out to the release of resurrection. phase 2 val is based on his whiny little girlfriend who likes to start shit with 14yos on twitter, and you can absolutely tell she is no longer the same person. so the long story short of "what went wrong" is "the original irl val's friendship with dirty laundry ended for whatever reason and he decided to retcon her entire personality to suit his gf"

Phase 2 Val, in my opinion:

Weak, like won't even fight back when she gets jumped bc boo fucking hoo she's so awful, bitch get up already, nobody signed up for ur pity party

Whiny. So fucking whiny. All the time. And she's the POV character so it's inescapable.

"Pacifist" but in a really pathetic virtue-signalling kind of way like "Oh, I've done such terrible thiiiiiiiiiiings I'm so awfulllllllllllll look how good I'm trying to be nowwwwwwww pay attention to meeeeeeee" kind of way, it was both boring and a massive eye roll. It's a book about magic and asskicking. Kick some ass. We're here for escapism not "realistic" whining. Yes, irl she'd be a mess. As an author it's his job to strike a balance between the "realism" he wants to portray and making his readers so depressed and done with his heroine that they quit reading, and in my case, he absolutely failed.

Everything must be about her at all times. Skug is having personal problems? Fuck him, they're about her now. Everything is about how it affects her, and her feelings, and be damned to the person actually having the problem. Fucks phase 2 val cain gives about anyone except herself: 0

Bitter and jaded. Which yeah I get why but it's like jesus christ what do we get out of reading about this? It's not even good bitter and jaded where it makes you empathise or admire her strength in adversity or whatever, she's just become a really nasty person with no redeeming features that I could see. Which? Landy outright said she's based on his gf? If your boyfriend is gonna drag ur entire personality through the dirt like that and write "you" as just a collection of incredibly negative traits...yikes.

Really ungrateful about the awesome life she leads? Which bugs me bc I fucking hate mundanity and knowing that all there is to life is fucking working and bad mental health. I would kill to live her life. All she does is moan about it. Like? Quit then. Fuck off back to being a mortal if it's that bad and live the shitty life you wanted to get away from in the first place. That way we'd get no more books, and quite honestly, thank fuck for that. But anyway, she needs to pick one, stick with it, and stop complaining about whatever she chose.

The girl wallows in self pity. And if someone else isn't indulging her enough, she'll wallow harder and louder and more obviously. Yawn.

Her POV is now so depressing to read that Resurrection literally tanked my mental health. I'm not kidding. I fell off the self-harm wagon, the suicidal thoughts came back, reading her dissociating would make me dissociate, I just did not cope whatsoever. Being in her head was just like being in my head during my worst points, and I hate myself, so naturally, I hate her too. Like I get why some people like phase two val. I get that her depression is "realistic" and that trauma does just make some people completely dislikeable and self-pitying, and if people want to read about that, then...sure. you do you, my dudes. But I live that reality, I am that person whose trauma made her a dysfunctional, isolated bitch, and I hate, passionately, having it infest the media I consume to escape.

Essentially if I wanted to engage with a bitter, spiteful, depressed piece of shit in her 20s who pushes everyone away and sucks at everything, I'd live my gd life. Yall see me tryna engage with my real life? Hell nah I'm on tumblr dot com burying my head up the ass of whatever fandom will force my brain to produce some s e r o t o n i n and that is what I need this series for

Also? The dynamic she had with skug in phase one? "Until the end"? "You save me, I save you, that's how we work"? Forget that, it doesn't exist anymore. I stopped reading after Midnight, because she was written like he was a coworker she could barely tolerate. They went from "Lardo confirms on twitter that they talked on the phone a bunch while she was in america and he'd always ask her to come home" to "she comes home and proceeds to blank him for five months while she sits in her fuckin multimillionaire's mansion feeling sorry for herself". Their friendship completely disintegrated, they were totally separated for most of the book, she's written as not giving a single shit about him. She treated him like dirt, and their dynamic basically felt like it was becoming "Local Man With History Of Gravitating Towards Abusive Women Makes Same Terrible Choices For Fifth Time" and? that was the point of no return to me. he supports her unconditionally, no matter what he's going through at the time, he's walked on broken bones to try and get to her when she was in danger, she can tell him anything and he'd never use it against her. I did not, for one second in phase two, believe she felt the same about him. tbh it felt like she could - and wanted to - drop him at the first opportunity and not even feel bad about it, and that's not the dynamic that made me so emotionally attached to phase one. i signed up for "until the end", not whatever bullshit phase two has going on.

Apparently she's "less depressed" now and their relationship is "better" in the books published since midnight, which! might well be true. but I haven't read them and don't intend to, and she's gone from one of my favourite fictional characters ever (which! was impressive! because i almost never bond with the female lead - i normally get attached exclusively to the character i crush on, which would be skug here. val was the first female lead i actually cared about since xena! so im deeply salty about losing her!) to a character i? honestly prefer to pretend doesn't exist. i live in war era dead men/generals crackship land because that way, i don't have to acknowledge her or the fuckin character assassination phase 2 pulled on her.

so yeah, no hate towards phase one val at all. phase one val was awesome and flawed and gave me something to aspire to despite my shitty mental health and trauma, and if she'd kept her original personality she might still have been those things. but the original "real life" val is no longer involved (and doesn't talk to landy at all anymore, apparently), and the val based on landy's insufferable gf? i cannot get behind her at all ever, four for skug and none for phase two val cain bye

Summary: Reader gets food poisoning, inspired by true events

A/N: when I started writing this I intended a quick lil drabble, but alas

Rintaro was in bed, passing the time till he fell asleep for the night watching a random youtube video when the texts from you came in. Babe please come over, then another text, my stomach hurts, then the last, I rlly need u rn. He responded quickly, u kno u can just tell me when u wanna have sex, u dont have to pretend ur stomach hurts or something. He saw the three dots appear and waited for the response, i spent the last 10 min voming in the toilet. Worry filled Rin’s head, calculating the amount of time it would take to stop by the nearest drugstore to pick up some supplies before texting you back, 20 min. 

Walking into your apartment with a bag filled with medicine, sports drinks, and snacks, in his rush to get to you, he forgot to ask what medicine you already had, so he got whatever would seem useful. He called out to you, “Bunny? I’m here.” not that he needed a response, he could hear your retching from across the apartment. Rushing into the bathroom, Rin kneeled next to you, redoing the messy ponytail that you put up, rubbing your back, muttering encouraging words so that you would finish and he could comfort you. He flushed the toilet while you hovered over the toilet for a few seconds, making sure the wave of nausea passed before trying to get up. Suna followed your movements, setting his hands on your waist to steady your swaying while you washed out your mouth in the sink. “Please tell me you haven’t spent the last twenty minutes vomiting.”

“No, I haven’t. But it sure felt like it.” Your boyfriend’s eyebrows furrowed that these words. Your voice was hoarse, skin washed out from its usual glow, the exhaustion clear in every aspect of your appearance. You buried your face in his chest, grabbing his shirt with labored breath. “Thank you for coming. I know it’s gross.”

Your words were just loud enough for him to hear. “It’s no problem bun-bun, I brought you some stuff, it's in the kitchen.” Rin pulled you out of the bathroom you were holed up in, setting you down on your couch. He walked away from you, presumably to get whatever it was he brought, and you shut your eyes, savoring the calm in the waves of nausea. You heard the rustling in the kitchen, pots and pans clanging, bringing your headache to stir and push down on your temples. While massaging your forehead, your favorite fuzzy blanket was pulled over your crossed legs, large hands replacing yours on your head. Rin kissed the crown of your head. “I have some soup heating up for you, and Pocari Sweat, and some meds.” He moved around the couch to sit on the coffee table in front of you. “Did you eat anything weird today? Did one of your co-workers have the flu recently? Because I don’t wanna catch whatever you have.”

You thought for a moment before responding, “I, uh, don’t think anyone was sick at work recently. I don’t think it's contagious then. Uhh Mina from school, it was her birthday, so we went to that new barbeque place for lunch.” Your words were slower paced than they usually were, taking all your effort to say something comprehensible. “I texted the groupchat, they said they were feeling ok, but um I think it was Hana? She said she didn’t feel too great, but nothing like me.”

“You’re not pregnant are you? Because as much as I like getting called daddy, I don’t really wanna hear it from a kid, only from you.” 

You look straight into his eyes, he winks, “Shut the fuck up. And no, I took a test, it was negative.”

“That’s good then, lemme check on the soup.” He got up, patting your head as you leaned back into the couch. He came back quickly, bowl and bag of “goodies”. As you slowly spooned the broth into your mouth, Rin pulled out a few bottles of Pocari Sweat, a bottle of anti-nausea medicine, some crackers, and finally the two greatest items in the bag, strawberry pocky and chuupets. You froze when you saw those, quickly putting down your soup to make grabby hands at the pocky and chuupet, but he lifted them out of your reach, “Nuh-uh, not until you feel better, you’d just throw them up now.” You gave him the best pout you could, but Rin stayed firm in his words, putting the treats back in the bag.

Rintaro spent the rest of the night taking care of you, grabbing whatever you needed, massaging your stiff stomach, letting you sleep against him while you slept sitting on the couch (he insisted that you stay upright, telling you how google said it would help the heartburn), and continuing to hold your hair back when you were dry heaving (there wasn’t any food in your stomach to vomit up by 3 am). You were settling into bed around five am, exhausted from staying up so long, ready to at least try and get peaceful sleep when Rin said, “So I know we already discussed this and have concluded you have food poisoning, but what if you just have a tapeworm? Google said it’s basically the same symptoms-”

“What the fuck Rin? A tapeworm? Who even gets tapeworms?”

“Well Google said people usually get them in contaminated pork or beef, and you got barbeque.”

“It would be an egg on the meat, and eggs take time to grow Rin-Rin, I’m pretty sure the gestational period for tapeworm eggs is not 8 hours.”

“But Babe, think about it, a pet tapeworm.” The bedroom was dark, but Rin felt your eyes burning through his skull. “You said you wanted a pet, so we go to the doctor’s get the tapeworm removed, and make him an aquarium.”

You deeply sighed, shaking your head, “When I said a pet, I meant a bunny, or a cat. Not a parasite.”

“I’d call the worm Mustard-”

“Goodnight Rin.”

The next day, Rin stayed with you, making sure you were okay. You felt infinitely better than the night before, with only a lingering headache reminding you of the situation. There was a knock on the door during your lunch, it was your friend Mina, “Oh honey, I’m so sorry you got sick yesterday, I feel so bad, I brought your favorite food to make up for it.” She placed a white plastic bag on your table.

“Don’t worry about it, it’s not your fault.” 

Rin took your empty bowl, replacing it with another, and ruffled your hair, “C’mon babe, you’re eating for two now.” The mischievous grin was obvious on his face.

Mina blushed, “Oh-oh my god...are you pregnant? Is that why you were sick? Is it a boy or a girl?”

A proud smile on his face, Rintaro replied, “It’s a tapeworm,” earning him a hard smack on the stomach.

A/N: yeah i got food poisoning from eating too much japchae, too much fiber makes ur intestine say no, and your stomach acid go crazy, dont recommend, but it inspired the fic! hope yall liked it! Leave a comment saying why you liked it! or why you didn't like it!

“You should fucking go there and give her a damn reason Sixx” Nikki recognized Tommy’s voice from behind him as he stared at the piece of paper in front of him.

“Fuck off Tommy” The bassist replied without taking the eyes of what he’d been staring all morning.

“No man, I mean it ok?! Dude she is the one for you! I know this, you know this, even she knows th-“

“THEN WHY THE HELL IS SHE MARRYING THIS ASSHOLE? HUN TOMMY? WHY THE HELL?” Nikki snapped and got up ready to kick the shit of anyone or anything in front of him

“She asked you for a reason man..” The drummer’s voice was low but filled with compassion, and the worst part for Nikki was that he knew that Tommy was right.

…..

“FUCK Y\N! I CANT STAND THIS ANYMORE OK?! IT’S MY FUCKING LIFE DAMNIT STOP CONTROLLING ME” At this point Nikki didn’t even know what they were fighting about. This argument started at what felt like hours ago.

“JESUS NIKKI, I’M NOT TRYING TO FUCKING CONTROL YOU! ALL I ASK IS FOR YOU DON’T GET YOURSELF KILLED, BECAUSE I CAN’T IMAGINE MY LIFE WITHOUT YOU, FUCKER!” Y\N screamed back at him passing her hands in her hair. As the last words left her mouth, tears pooled at her eyes and she couldn’t hold them back anymore.

Nikki felt his insides melt as he watched her cry. His mind screaming to hug her and never let her go, to tell her to forget about the fucking fight and just hold him, to tell her that he’d do anything for her, because he would. However, he just stood there, with tears rolling in his face as well.

“I had enough of this shit” Y\N whispered and started collecting her things into a bag.

“Babe, wait” Nikki broke out of his daze and watched her stop on her tracks

“Give a reason Nikki. Just give me a reason to stay and I will.” She still had her back turned to him and her voice was broken from her tears. “Just tell me you love me more than the drugs. Just tell me we can work this out together and I’ll fix it Nikki. I love you more than my fucking life and  I- Just please say something“

“I’m sorry. I can’t.”  And with that he walked out the flat they shared. From the other side of the door he could hear her crying and it shattered him. Nikki left before he ran to her arms.

She deserved better than that, and now he knew he had to let her go. It was the best for her; he was being shellfish holding her back from the perfect life she deserved. The bassist repeated like a mantra as he walked around the neighborhood, hoping to come at ease, but that of course never happened.

When Sixx came back all her things were gone. He cried the whole night after bringing the entire place to the ground. All the memories were broken now, just like he was without his girl. Without Y\N.

The band had just come back from tour. Nikki was still dizzy from the flight, so he just entered his house and left his things at the side of the front door.  

Heading to his couch with his remote on hands he noticed the machine and the long number of lost calls. Without a sigh he decided to take care of that. After almost 20 minutes of messages, one took his breath away.

“Hi Nikki, it’s me.. Y\N. I hope you still me remember me for that, but if you can’t, I’m the girl who used outdrink you any day. Ringing a bell?” Her voice was playful but he could tell that she was scared the he wouldn’t recognize or remember her. Like he could do that. Even after all this time she still held his heart and the others were just others.

“I got your number from Tommy by the way, just so you don’t think I’m a psychotic bitch who stalks you or something. Well I just called to ask,.. I mean, I don’t know if you got the invitation, but I was hoping to hear a response from you ok? I sent to the guys and I’m still waiting their answer too, but it’d be awesome to get the gang back together..”  Nikki could feel the tension in her voice, but still hadn’t quite understood what she was talking about. He was just so happy that her voice was filling his ears again that nothing else mattered. Her sigh made Nikki come back to his daydreaming state.

“Anyway, I guess- I guess I’m just hoping you changed your mind. I’m hoping you can- I’m hoping you want to give me a reason now. I’m hoping you can say something now. Or just put me on your shoulder and tell me you love me like you used to. Give me a reason so I don’t get married Nikki.. Please.” Y\N was crying by now. But the bassist mind was in another level. She was getting married? No, that couldn’t be.

Running to his old mail he found it. A silver envelope with her known handwriting. ‘To Nikki’, it said in the colored pen, ‘still waiting for a reason’ written in the bottom corner. The man sunk to his knees and cried. He cried like he did in the night he lost Y\N, the worst night of his life.

He listened to the message a lot of times, and cried most of them. He knew this would happen, she deserved this. But why she had to make it so hard for him, when Nikki only wanted what’s best for her?

Nikki Sixx was not the kind of guys who should be at the end of an altar. But neither was Y\N the kind of girl who should be marrying the wrong guy. The church was full and he acknowledged some of them as part of Y\N’s family.  

“Always thought I would burn” Tommy whispered as they took a seat hidden in a corner, receiving a glare from his friend. Sixx would never admit it, but he needed Tommy there. “C’mon man, no need to be nervous. Just go back there and tell her you love her. She’ll love it and we can take her away. Hell, I miss my friend..”

“I’m not nervous, and it’s not that simple” Nikki aggressively whispered

“Of course it fucking is man” Tommy said a bit loud gaining some bad looks from other people. “Sorry” The drummer said with his hands up “Man you gotta-“

But the drummer couldn’t finish his sentence as he was interrupted by the organ, playing something that sounded like a death march to Nikki. And all of sudden there she was. All in white, looking perfect, just like Nikki imagined on the many nights he dreamed that HE was the one she was marrying. The love of his life being shown of like a trophy, about to be delivered to an asshole.

He couldn’t take his eyes of her. Y\N’s smile was empty and didn’t reach her eyes. She searched through the crowd, and as soon as her eyes found his a genuine smile opened in her face. The song stopped as she reached the end of the altar. The man’s hand sought for hers but she held it tight against herself, a fact that made Nikki smile and filled him with confidence. This was wrong. She deserved someone who could give her a stable, boring life without all the drama he gave her. But was that really a good life if she was unhappy? Nikki was at peace giving his happiness away, but not hers, never hers.  

His thoughts kept him stuck in a daydream between their past, their fights, their lovemaking and all the nights filled with talks about their future. And when he turned to the altar there she was, turned in front of a man she was supposed to spend the rest of her life with but with her eyes on him.

Y\N stared at him as she was silently asking for help, just like she used to do when Tommy wouldn’t shut up about a new girl, swearing that this one was the love of his life. She didn’t want this. Y\N loved him and he loved her. Nikki was done running away from that.

“STOP” Nikki yelled, creating a wave of silence in the church, accompanied with a few gasps “Y\N you can’t- You can’t marry this guy” He got up from his seat and moved to her direction

“That’s what I’m talking about dude” Tommy whispered, fisting the air and gaining horror looks.

“I’m sorry babe, but you just can’t marry him when you can’t stop loving me” Nikki stood in front of her with a small smile in his lips. He could sense the groom was about to punch him, and that was a price he was willing to pay after all the years he shut his mouth.

“A few years ago you asked for a reason to stay and I was a pussy. But now I’m here to say what I should’ve told back then, baby. I love you. Always did and always will. You are my girl, the one and only and I- Damn there’s nothing in this world I would not do it for you.” Y\N had a hand covering her lips but Nikki could see her smile and the tears rolling down her eyes.

“I’ll do whatever you want me to do; I’ll let everything in my life go if you come back baby. What do you say hun? Give this motherfucker a chance and I swear I’ll make you the happiest woman in the whole world.” Nikki took her hand and kissed it. It was like the word had stopped and there was them. The two idiots who loved each other more than they should.

“Look man, you had your chance and you ruined ok? And you may be a rock star and all but I think the show here is done. Go back to your groupies ok?”

“That’s not your saying John” Nikki replied with gritted teeth

“That’s not my name asshole, an-”

“Whatever man” The bassist cut him and turned to Y\N “Please sweetheart, just say something” He used her words, the words that hunted him for so long. She cleared her throat looking to the shocked crowd, and turned her smiling face at him

“Tommy” She yelled and the drummer got up instantly “Get the car ready. I finally have my reason” Y\N whispered the last part looking directly in her lover’s eyes. Not wanting to waste any second, Nikki took her by the waist and kissed her deeply.

Out of breath, hair a mess, make up all ruined, eyes still closed and a smile on her lips. “God how much I missed you babygirl” Nikki told her, caressing her bottom lip stuck between her teeth.  

“I missed you too Sixx. Now just take me away from here”

“Gladly” He took her hand but before he could pull her away a voice came from her side, and before they could react a punch was delivered in Nikki’s face. A punch that threw him on the ground

“OH HELL NO.. YOU ARE NOT DOING THIS..YO-YOU CAN’T BREAK THE WEDDING” The groom said in anger as Y\N went to Nikki’s rescue. He quickly got up and took her hand

“I’m so sorry Jesse. You’re a really nice guy and I hope you find someone who loves you just like I love Nikki.” Y\N turned to her family at the altar and gave them a sad smile, and after a whispered ‘I’m sorry’ Nikki noticed the preacher urging them to leave.

Now, Nikki Sixx was never a man of faith, but in that moment, he couldn’t agree more with the man in the cassock. The bassist took the woman of his dreams by the waist and threw her on his shoulder, a gasp leaving her mouth along with some sweet giggles.

Around them the world was falling apart but they could only hear each other’s laugh. One incensed and irritated groom was left behind at the altar, as he could only watch the two crazy lovers ran to their future.

They were still laughing when the raven-haired man dropped the runaway bride on the back of the car parked in front of the church. Their laughter died slowly and suddenly the couple were just staring at each other, as if just now realizing what they did for each other.

Being a part of the X-Men wasn’t half bad, most of the time. You got regular dental checks and healthcare cover thanks to the Professor, an account on the team’s Netflix you didn’t have to pay for, and training to allow you to regulate your mutation to be allowed around other people. While Ellie Phimester could literally explode, and Colossus was metal most of the time, you were able to shift your density. Which had been a rude awakening at fourteen when you fell from your bed at the top of the orphanage through all the floors and landed in a heap in the basement.

But that was years ago, and since, you’ve been learning not to fall so much as ‘fly’, or, really, just be half-useful in hand-to-hand combat with the people the X-Men encountered. In 2010, you met Wade Wilson back when he was just a mercenary for cash – by accident! You were on your way to your apartment in the shady part of town and he’d seen you in the shadows as a threat. Leading to his knife in your chest…well, his knife going through your chest. To make up for it, he’d taken you out for an apologetic round of drinks and given you a sloppily drunk kiss. But it was nice. It was Wade.

You’re sure he was too drunk to remember that, because it hadn’t been mentioned since. But that was perchance because he’d found a girlfriend. Because when you met again a couple of years later – when you were called in from a mission in the Basque country of France – he looked like a scaly piece of radioactive cheese, but, even without the eyebrows and a skincare routine, you knew it was Wade. For one, that sailor mouth.

Now, you’re not so sure.

“She’s ducking dead,” he says, over and over, except ducking is what everyone intends to write when Autocorrect steps in. “And Russel’s – duck!” His eyes are wild. He looks like a raggedy, wild, ravaging animal. Or a child. He’s acting like it too. His legs are still small, and standing in the corner, you watch as he works out his problems mentally until he growls in frustration.

Weasel looks to you, and you look to Neena, and in turn, look to Wade.

“X-Force didn’t work out,” you say, and Wade gives you a sharp look. You clear your throat, and start again, “X-Force isn’t done yet, but it hasn’t done what its goal was. Get Russel and stop him. Especially since he’s with Juggernaut.”

Neena nods, agreeing. “We need to stop them, I mean, that guy is ugly.”

Weasel raises a hand. “How are we going to do it? I mean, me – I’m just me, and Wade has baby legs, Neena – you’re just a fluke of nature –,”

She grins at that, “Thank you.”

“– and __________, you’re just really good at falling through things.” He concludes.

“We can’t just do nothing.” You say, desperate. “We know that Russel turns into a really, really bad guy if we let him go down this path – we have to try! It’s better to try at failing than to fail at trying.”

“Isn’t that from a motivational cat poster?” Neena wonders.

You throw your hands up, exasperated, and leave the room to find Wade’s kitchen. When you were but a young boy, a blind boy a little older than you roomed with you at the orphanage. He might have been blind, and at night, covered his head with pillows because everything was too loud, but you learned something from him, even when you discovered your mutation.

Tea makes everything better. Of course, two teenaged boys didn’t learn this by themselves – you’d sneak down to the kitchens after sunset for a mug of warm milk that Sister Constantine would permit, but, when your friend came with you this time, she declared that it wouldn’t be tea this time for the both of you.

“How old are you boys, again?” she asked in her matronly tone.

“Fifteen,” you replied.

“I’m sixteen.” Said his friend.

“Well, you’re much too old to have warm milk at night. Yes,” she repeated, busing herself with boiling a pot of water upon the cast iron stove. “Milk is for children or calves suckling at their mothers’ teat in the farmyard. You boys are nearly men, and men drink milk, yes, but with other things.”

“Do you mean biscuits?” you questioned.

You had no clue as to what men drank. You had been found as a baby upon the orphanage doorstep, swaddled in a raggedy scarf in a box that had allegedly smelt of cat pee and cigarettes. The nuns raised you, and so, apart from the occasional school teacher who was male, you had few as role models.

“No,” Sister Constantine replied. “Tea.”

Returning to the living room with several cups looped over your fingers, it isn’t until you look up and realise that almost everyone there has a gun cocked to where you were just standing. Because standing there is the man who had just been trying to kill Russel. It’s then your mutation kicks in with the adrenaline that’s racing through your mind, and the cups drop, hitting the floor. Kersch-plash.

“Sorry,” you apologise, “I just – he’s – what?”

“Cable. The mother-trucker who was – hey, who’s censoring my words?” Wade frowns, looking at you. No, not you, the you who’s reading. “Did the writer put you up to this?” he asks, growling. “I am the Merc with a Mouth, not one of those lame-o’s from The Good Place.” He bring his hand down upon his baby leg in frustration, and winces. “Fork! Bench.” He turns his gaze from you back to you, standing in the doorway with several broken mugs of tea at your feet, and continues, “He’s the guy who wanted to let Russel get blown up like a piñata on the Day of the Dead.”

“Oh,” you say, “hi.”

The other man says nothing. But it’s what happens next that says more words.

You see it happening, perhaps, before he did.

There was the shot of the gun from that asshole, and the bang! of the shot itself, and well, you did what you did. Your feet move themselves, your brain makes you move faster than before. Sure, earlier today you couldn’t function enough to hold your own with your density vs. the tea cups, but now, your body is in fight mode. And before you can register what you’re doing, you’ve moved.

You feel the bullet, and feel somewhat hollow, and but its then you shift. Your skin grows dense, like concrete trying to drip dry out of a waterless tap.

Time seems to go back to normal after that.

And you collapse to the ground, heavy. From the hole in your chest, you know you’re bleeding onto the X-Force unitard. From what’s hurting the most, you know the bullet has hit your heart, right where you didn’t need a bullet to go through. But you took it.

“Bruv,” Russel says, shocked.

“__________!” Wade’s at your side. “No – what!”

You look to him, unable to articulate anything. From shifting your mutation as you took the bullet, you can only assume it’s taking up all your energy, all your will, and you can feel weaker. “H-hi.” You whisper.

“__________, you can’t die,” Ellie blinks, looking between you and Colossus. At the mansion, you never thought yourself as close, but here she is, breaking. “Call someone!”

But you’re focusing on Wade, with every second you have left.

“__________, no,” he says, pulling the mask up, so you can see his lips. “You can’t die too.”

You muster all your strength, and reaching toward Wade with your hand, you place your fingers on his chin, and your hand falls to land on his chest. “I…I l –,” You splutter, your heart rate fading quick, your lungs unable to fill. “you.”

It all goes dark.

Time is strange when you don’t care about it. He care deeply for it, especially since it’s what he works on. Lives off. Needs. But he says he doesn’t care, and that’s what other people know of him. They don’t know much of him. Like how he had a son, once. A perfect child, unaffected like him. It drove him mad, seeing the boy showing no mutant genes. It was when he and his wife, quite young, and quite sure of it at that time, decided to return this child to where he came from. Originally. So that it could have the best life for someone like that.

So, he had his wife write a note, and they wrapped the child in a scarf, and marked him in a way so if he wanted to, he could find the boy. And together, he and his child, went to the late 20th century, to a small orphanage in New York city. He chose a warm night, to leave him, in a box that smelt faintly of cigarette smoke.

After that, time went on for him. Forwards, backwards, his device worked well. Until that night, and then, he, in revenge for what happened to his family, armed himself with it, and saw it had only two more rides left. One to the 21st century. To take out Russell Collins. And one to return home.

But plans change.

Cable watches the young man fall, having taken the bullet. But it isn’t until he takes his hand, and places it against Wade’s chest that he notices a small mark on the inside of his wrist. Three dots, faded, yes, but, there, as if tattooed.

He knows those dots. While the X-Force are busy churning out tears, he turns his device, and in time – a fluid thing, really – goes backwards, for once, in a small way. Ten minutes, back when they were un-squashing out of the taxi together.

He does what he does, and shrugs when asked why he touched the younger man’s chest. He feigns indifference, and, well. The rest is history. Future.

Now.

“I nearly died,” you whisper, looking once more to your friends, your eyes settling on Wade. Your adrenaline is still coursing your body, and it’s in a split second when you stride toward him, looking at him through the mask. “Wade, there’s something I gotta tell you.”

Russel gives you two a look, and moves toward Colossus, away from you too.

“You left the stove on at my place?” he asks.

“No, no, not that,” you shake your head. “Do you remember back in 2010 when we first met? In the alleyway? You stabbed me, but I –,”

He nods.

But you persist. “Do you remember all of it? Because sometimes it’s like you try to erase that bit, because you’ve never brought it up. You were with V –,”

Wade interrupts you, ripping the mask from his face that looks like an undercooked and under-sauced pepperoni pizza, and at once, he cradles your face with his gloved hands, and your heart stops. Not in the literal way. Because finally, it’s happening sober. It’s happening out of your guilty pleasure daydreams and wishes.

“I wasn’t sure if you remembered,” he says to you, as you break for air.

“Gross,” says Russel.

“Every sock has a pair,” says Yukio, no doubt holding Ellie’s hand.

“Of course I remembered,” you say, and kiss Wade forkin’ Wilson, the guy you’ve been in love with since that night in 2010.

It started out slow. A shove in the hallways, a sneer, a crude or, even more often, cruel remark. Words that filled your ears and stuck in your brain for hours and even more often days and haunted you. But you never thought it was bad enough to tell anyone.

Especially not your boyfriend Jughead Jones.

You knew Jughead was someone who was hotheaded and protective. Someone who would kick Chuck’s ass if he knew it was going on. A fight you wanted to prevent at any means necessary. You wanted to take the turn to protect Jughead as best you could.

It wasn’t even in regular school hours when he found out, you had thought you had gotten off scott free that day. You had managed to avoid Chuck all day, and you had had plans to skip the dance.

But Betty and Veronica had dragged you to V’s house, despite your protests that you put you in an outfit Kevin and V had picked out for you that would make you look stunning.

“Come on (Y/N), you and Juggie will have fun tonight. You just have to breathe and relax,” B cooed as she did your hair.

“Its a dance. You two really need to start experiencing your teenage years and get out of Pop’s once in a while. Youre only a teenager once, and I know you’ll regret it in 20 years if you miss out. So stop sulking,” Veronica said sternly as she finished putting your outfit in place.

But you couldnt think about her words as you began to stress. Sweat filling your palms, fear clenching your chest as you thought about what could happen. Betty could see the stress in your eyes, feel the shakes that went through your body and almost said something when there was a knock at the door.

“I bet thats Jug, come on (Y/N), he’s going to swoon and we’ll be picking him up off the floor when he sees you,” she said and dragged you by the hand to her bedroom door, leading you downstairs.

In truth looking at him, ll done up and slightly awkward was what made you forget your worries for a few moments. The way he hid his hands in his sleeves, the blush on his face as your eyes moved over his frame, the way his eyes tried to catch yours but failed miserably as his gaze wandered just as much as yours did.

“You look amazing,” he and you said at the same time, making both of your faces redden even more. Jug held out his arm to you and you gladly took it, breathing deeply and relaxing, melting into his side as you followed him to the school.

You were calm for most of the night until you saw his face in the crowd. Chuck could be seen, weaving in and out of the group of people he was with, a grin on his face and oblivious to you for now. but Jug could see the way our mouth moved from a smile to a frown, your eyes filling with an emotion he hadnt seen on it before.

“You ok (Y/N)?” he asked you softly, rubbing your shoulder as he stopped dancing suddenly.

You nodded your head, quickly snapping out of your staring and kissing his cheek.

“Yeah, yeah I’m good Juggie,” you said. You could see in his face he didnt believe you but you smiled and took his hand, dragging him further into the crowd and forcing him to dance with you, forcing your mind to get off of Chuck. The other boy didnt matter right now. What mattered was you and Juggie.

Until you broke away from him to go to the bathroom. You left your boyfriend by the snack table a few songs into the dance and made your way towards the girls room. Where none other than Chuck was waiting by the door. He shoved you, sneering some as he looked down at you.

“Whats an emo whore like you doing here? I thought dances were for normal teenagers?” he asked, voice full of venom and you grit your teeth as you tried to stand up. 

“Fuck off,” you hissed at him as you tried to shove past him into the other room, but he grabbed your arm, holding it in a bruising grip.

“Murderer fuckers dont get to talk to me like that,” he growled as he pushed you into the wall.

“It has been fucking weeks of you being an asshole, of course I’m going to tell you that. I dont get why youre being like this,” you said through grit teeth as you again, tried to get away from him. the other boy just laughed and shrugged, hands going back to you before another voice cut through icily.

“Leave them alone,” Jughead said angrily, storming towards the two of you.

“Oh yeah? And what are you going to do about it freak?” chuck asked. you could see Jughead wanted to say something about the name, but didnt want to risk getting you hurt with his snarky comments. After a few beats of silence Chuck chuckled.

“Seriously? Youre little whore here is in trouble and your too much of a coward to do shit about it. Maybe I should take them and show them a good time because obviously you don’t care,” he said and that was when Jughead snapped.

You watched as Jughead ran forward, punching Chuck in the face, forcing the other boy to release your shirt from his grasp. You watched in shock as Jughead jumped onto Chuck. The two wrestled for the upper hand, both landing a few punches before Jug finally got the upperhand. He sat on Chuck’s chest gripping his collar.

“Dont you ever talk to them again. I so much as see you near them again and I will do so much worse. I may not have killed Jason, but I will kill you,” he growled before dropping him and going to walk away.

He opened his arms to you and the two of you walked out of the school, leaning on each other as you made your way back to your house. As you sat on your bed, you dabbing at Jughead’s newest black eye, he sighed.

“Why didnt you tell me he was being an ass for what did you say? Weeks?” he asked and you bit your lip, staying silent as you continued to dab off his split cheek and lip.

“Because I knew you’d react like that,” you mumbled after a few moments of silence. An answer that made him drop and shake his head.

“you know I would do anything to protect you. Because I love you,” he said. the words made you smile weakly and you nodded, gently kissing his lips.

“yeah I know. And I was trying to protect you, because I love you too,” you said as you pulled away.

“I dont need protection. Especially if it come with the price of you getting hurt,” he said and you rolled your eyes.

“Im not the one with a split lip and black eye,” you chided and he rolled his eyes.

“Worth it for you,” he said.

“Just dont make it a habit.”

“I wont.”

“Promise?”

“Promise,” he finished the conversation and you sighed, kicking off your shoes and climbing into bed with him. You didnt care that both of you were informal clothes and all that. You just wanted snuggles from the by you loved and to fall asleep,start fresh tomorrow.

1. What kind of food can’t you stand?: I’m with you @belxsar , eggplant is horrible. It tastes too bitter, as does zucchini. Overcooked bell peppers are also disgusting.

2. If you could choose one minor inconvenience to never have to deal with again, what would you pick?: Packing. I’d love if everything important just packed itself without having to worry about fitting everything in and stressing about forgetting something important. I hate packing.  

3. Have you got any useless talents?: I don’t think my talents are useless, but I think lots of people think my profession is useless.  

4. If you could be really really good at one thing, what would it be?: Time management.  

5. Name a few people you think are extremely good-looking: Otome men?

6. What was your favorite way to pass the time as a kid?: Reading. I was obsessed, I could read several books per day if I just had the time.  

7. What is something you’re proud of?: My kids.  

8. What’s one character flaw in people that you just can’t tolerate?: Bigotry. In all of its forms, whether it’s terfs, racists, homophobes or neo-nazis.

10. What kind of student are/were you?: A decent one? I tried to do my homework on time and had decent grades.

12. Name your most irrational fear/aversion: Like funny irrational or terrifying irrational? I’m scared to put my hands over railings if I’m holding something on my hands or if I have rings because I’m sure I’ll drop everything.

13. Are there any fictional characters you find especially relatable?: From SLBP I find Mitsunari really relatable. I just try to appear nice and hide my tsun.

14. If you drink, what kind of drunk are you? Alternatively, what sort of person are you at parties?: I’m a sociable drunk. I’m one of those introverts that turn into extroverts when they drink. If I can’t drink myself nice, I usually sit in a corner, avoid loud music and prefer talking to 2-3 people.  

15. Do you fall in love easily? Or does it usually take a long time for you to trust someone?: I have crushes fairly easily, but I’ve fallen in love head over heels just once. Usually, it takes longer time, but I guess that one time was special?

16. Would you rather have one close friend or 100 casual friends?: One close friend. I’m too introverted to have a large social circle, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy talking to lots of people.  

17. Do you consider yourself to be more of a slob or a neat-freak?: I’m both. I’m a horrible slob who likes to keep all closets and drawers neat.  

18. Describe a place (imaginary or real) that you would find incredibly cozy: The Shire from Lord of the Rings.

19. Do you have kids? If not, do you want them someday?: I have just the perfect amount of kids.  

20. What was your favorite book as a child?: I don’t remember what was my absolute favourite, but the book that I loved and what had most impact me as a person must have been Dealing With Dragons and the entire Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede.  

21. Name one thing you just don’t get what all the hype is about: Game of Thrones and other overly violent and dark fantasy series. Give me back Buffy or The Legend of the Seeker or Xena. I had nightmares for a month when I tried to watch GoT.  

22. Name one thing that you think is tragically underrated: Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse -series. It’s hilarious and filled with weird pop culture references.

If you had to be glued to a person for a month, real or fictional (who you have never met), who would you choose?: It doesn’t matter, I would SUFFER no matter who it was (and probably the other party would too, I’m a really nasty person when I’ve had too much socialising). I can’t even stand hubby for a month.  

24. What’s something you’d like the chance to do someday?: Travel more.  

25. Do you typically speak your mind when you have a controversial opinion? Or do generally prefer to not rock the boat?: I just loathe silently (but probably not discreetly) everyone around me.

26. What’s the dumbest fad you’ve been caught up in?: All the fads I’ve been caught up in were awesome, I have no regrets <3

27. What’s something you thought was cool as a kid/adolescent, but now cringe at yourself for?: Sexist jokes.  

28. What’s a trait you consider to be very admirable?: A passion to want something to happen so much you’re willing to put everything else aside. Like a passion to organise cons. It takes a huge amount of energy and time and still some people do it over and over again without any pay, just because they want other people to be able to enjoy themselves.

29. Is there a particular kind of item people always tend to give you as gifts? (For instance, people always get you things with ducks on them because you like ducks, etc.): I get things with cats on them a lot, I think?

30. Do you speak multiple languages? Which ones?: My mother tongue and English. I barely survive shopping in Swedish and know very little Spanish, Japanese and German.  

31. Would you rather live in the big city or the countryside?: Big city, the countryside is awful, everyone knows each other. And all the gossip. Nope.  

32. Has there ever been something you were certain you’d hate, but ended up loving?: Winx club. But I didn’t think I’d hate it, just that it wouldn’t be interesting. I teased hubby when he watched it but ended up being totally addicted instead.  

33. Do you mind being the center of attention, or do you prefer the spotlight to be on someone else?: I love being at the centre of the attention but at the same time, I’m terrified of it.

34. Favorite holiday?: Christmas.  

35. Are you a more go-with-the-flow type of person, or do you need to have things planned meticulously?: I need plans. I hate surprises. Depending on my anxiety level, I need anything from two days to an hour to prepare for small things.  

36. Is there something you loved so much you wish you could forget it and experience it all over again? (A tv show, book, series–anything.) : The Lord of the Rings hype when the movies came out. It was awesome, I loved every minute of it.  

37. What hobbies do you have?: Writing and playing otome games.  

38. If you could have a superpower, but it was only mildly useful, what ability would you want to have?: I’d like to keep house plants alive. Or have birds poop on nasty people.  

39. Something people are always surprised to learn about you: IRL people are surprised when I tell I play otome games. Some people find my profession surprising as well as if being a geek and beauty care are somehow exclusionary.

40. Something that took you way too long to figure out: That my body is good enough as it is. Somehow it needed +20kg to realise I wasn’t as fat as I thought I was.  

41. Worst injury you’ve had?: Tearing ligaments in my ankle. Twice.  

42. Any morbid fascinations?: Like everything? For example, I love songs that are supposed to be nice and calm but instead are about death and misery, like some lullabies and Christmas songs.

43. Describe your sense of humor: Sarcastic and pretty dry. But I also laugh at the stupidest memes.

44. If you had to be born in another era/place, which would you choose?: Good olden days suck. It doesn’t matter, I’d probably be dead anyway.  

45. Something you are irredeemably bad at: Time management.  

46. Something that sucked but you’re glad you went through: Pregnancy. It majorly sucked both times, but it was still worth it. Every other shit that I’ve gone through I could have lived without. It’s not true that “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. What doesn’t kill you may irreparably break and damage you and you might never be over some shit, no matter how hard you tell yourself that you are.

Would you rather have a really godawful ugly tattoo in a place that is only slightly inconvenient to conceal with clothing (upper arm, thigh, etc.), or the coolest, most beautiful tattoo ever in the middle of your face? (Neither tattoo can be removed or concealed with makeup, and the ugly tattoo will deeply offend anyone who sees it.): Facial tattoo.  

48. Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist?: Optimist, I think. I force myself to have an absolute faith that everything will work out, otherwise, I’d be an anxious mess incapable of doing anything.  

49. What would be the most flattering compliment someone could give you?: That they loved my writing. Or that I made them have feels and now they hate me ^^

50. Something you feel people often misunderstand about you: That I actually usually want to talk to them even if I seem standoffish or cold. I’m just not that good at talking to people I don’t know.

Okay, this is me trying not to care too much about Brighter by Wingit on Ao3 or @wing--it on tumblr (and failing miserably)

DISCLAIMER: Everything is my opinion and is in no way attempting to bash other fic writers because writing is hard and everyone that put their personal time into doing this and sharing fics with people over the internet deserves praise and to feel proud of what they’ve written. For this reason I won’t be naming any other fics aside from Brighter because that’s the focus and #Boost Ur Fandom Writers ya feel

DISCLAIMER 2.0: I realized I told @wing--it  that i’d have a meta done for their fic except I realized I’m not entirely sure what Meta is so I’m probably not good at it wow this is long im sorry okay let’s do this thing

Actually as I’m writing this, I realize it’s just going to turn into a giant ass review for Brighter and I don’t know how I feel about that but @wing--it hi, i love your fic, we’ve been over this right? Under the cut this goes. (contains mild spoilers for Brighter but I’m trying not to say everything outright)

Brighter is a Victuri fanfic that is by far one of the best I’ve read in terms of storyline, characterization, conflict, and angst revolving around that conflict.

Starting with storyline, Brighter is a godsend fic that gives that good ass almost immediately after the GPF life for Victuri. So the two of them figuring out their relationship and working out how to live together in a more intimate sense (that being on their own and not constantly surrounded by Yuuri’s family and the patrons of Yu-Topia). Now, there are some other good ass fics that also have the lives in St. Petersburg and that do this shit well (actually, I appreciate every fic out there, shout out to all fic writers yall are doing gods work) BUT something different that stands out about Brighter is how the storyline isn't just focused on Yuuri Katsuki.

Honestly, at the most current point (10 chapters in, updated last on the 8th of June) the two main characters are NOT Victor and Yuuri, but Yuuri and Yuri which is??? Possibly one of the few fics I’ve seen where these two are the main focus while still having the fic be Victuri centered. Like without getting too much into Yuri’s storyline for the sake of spoilers (though it’s kind of revealed in chapter 3 or 4 i think, pretty early on) This fic, by far, has some of the best characterization of Yuri P that I’ve ever seen.

Which is saying a lot because I will often stop reading a fic because of how they characterize Yura (especially if he’s a major recurring character in the fic). Yura does play a huge part in this fic in terms of his own character development and conflict (godddd I just really fucking love his story line) and Tash!!!!!! Gives a solid reason why Yura would be “”angsty”” 24/7 and h*ck!!! It’s just ugh!!! Everyone knows, if you’ve gone through your angry teenager phase, it’s so incredibly difficult to stay mad 24/7 unless something’s happened or something’s happening (mental illness notwithstanding) and like just godddd. Okay??? Okay. So Anyways, Yura opens up to Yuuri (eventually) and friendship happens and honestly out of this entire fic Yuuri and Yuri’s friendship is my favorite. Like yes, this includes Victor and Yuuri’s relationship or Victor and anyone else or any of the characters combines. I just think Tash did such an amazing job working with Yuri in the fic and I’m already emotional this is a mess I’m sorry.

Okay, So that’s Yuri’s character. On to Victor’s. I think Tash does a beautiful job having Victor adjust to life loving someone. Like here, we have a guy who’s spent his entire life trying to please and surprise so many people, like aside from splurge stuff, what has Victor done for himself? When going off that logic (and like the 50 in depth tumblr posts about this) Brighter is so beautiful in his characterization. Because it starts with Victor and Yuuri being soooo in love and everything’s perfect!!! For exactly .2 seconds

Because everyone knows that’s not how relationship work and people have to work together and have conflicts and allow room for being human together. (And dont get me wrong, I am just as likely to read a 50k coffee shop au with 0 conflict because I enjoy not hurting). Anyways, Victor’s characterization is essentially him trying to figure out how to be genuine (and failing on multiple occasions) and just him trying to teach himself that he doesn’t have to do what he thinks Yuuri would like to get him to stay because Yuuri loves him and they’re in this for the long run but still Victor  IS STRUGGLING to figure this out.  Tash just. God. Tash just does this so well.

And Victor. He’s also subject to his own anxieties but in a different way from Yuuri and??? Like the fact that he’s throwing himself back into his career after a year break and to go back to his way of surprising people and then coaching Yuuri and choreographing short programs for him, yuuri, and yuri too (i think he was doing 3 short programs anyways). The ice skating portion of this fic is so fucking important, which of course it is, in an anime about ice skating of course it’s fucking important but what I mostly mean is that it doesn’t necessarily take second to the romance in the fic with is easy to do. The Ice skating and the romance are like on par with each other with the only vaguely second plot line being Yuri’s story line which is :,,,) still

Anyways  I just fucking love this okay I’m so sorry this got off track I’m not even done yet but please, read Brighter.

Last on characterization is of course, the main character, Yuuri Katsuki. Alright, I just h*cking love Yuuri in this fic. Like?? He’s so understanding and doesn’t deserve half the shit he’s gone through because if!!! SOME PEOPLE just TALKED IT OUT1!!!!!! Maybe. But no. Tash’s way of writing Yuuri is one of the ones that I appreciate the most. His way of dealing with things (which is to overthink then not solve anything) or his way of sherlocking through other people’s problems (see: Yuri P see: Victor N) His insecurities are all #relatable and just, Idk how to talk about this because i really can only say how perf i think tash did with him and that’s nonsensical imo anyways yuuri in brighter is like best yuuri hi i would die for him to be happy

For Brighter, the conflict and the angst go hand in hand (though tash has been hinting at things getting more painful in the next update and i’m not ready but :,,,) ya kno) and so without spoiling anything I just want to say that the conflict/angst is different in a way that it’s something that doesn’t seem improbable and is just 100% believable like past the characterization in the fic, I could almost 100% see this happening in canon which is a weird feeling and idk if the movie turns out to have any of these problems I’m gonna pay Tash like $20 or something (so open ur paypal now cause I have a feeling). Specifically here I’m talking about the conflict between Victor and Yuuri (not necessarily Yura’s because that’s something I definitely don’t want to happen but god it makes for some really good ass story telling and background on a character).

For Victor and Yuuri, it’s a matter of being honest about one’s feelings and just you know, um, telling the truth and not saying what you think someone else wants to hear. Which doesn’t really sound hard or difficult at all but here we have Victor who’s done everything for other people up to recently in his career and has probably never been so deeply in love as he is with Yuuri right now so he’s confused and I’ll give him that. HOWEVER, sometimes, Victor just needs to have a little more faith in Yuuri’s feelings for him.

The same goes for Yuuri though, the conflict isn’t 100% Victor’s fault. Some of the blame is deff Yuuri’s and Yuuri’s anxiety (which is essentially a whole nother Yuuri except darker with idk maybe a goatee and constant bad ideas). But also you can’t blame a character for being anxious and stuff and really I’m not ragging on Victor for this but I also don’t think Yuuri’s entirely to blame here? Like I’m so bad at meta okay I’m sorry buT I think to a degree they both have insecurities and doubts that are straining the relationship. They really do try to work through things but on Yuuri’s side, he almost always links the problems back to himself and in term him not being able to satisfy Victor like sexually and emotionally I THINK. Like…….. Okay I can’t go into it because I’m not sure how to put what I’m thinking into words

Another point I cannot stress enough and can’t actually find a good place to put in even tho this was number 1 on the list of things I wanted to talk about in here is This conflict is seriously all good conflict. Brighter has character’s growing and developing and just. Nothing seems forced or out of place?? Like it wasn’t just put there in order for there to be something wrong. Actually I think i did mention this but I cannot stress enough how much the conflict in brighter just fucking makes sense!!!!! I’m actually repeating myself I know but seriously my favorite part…. Second favorite part after Yuri’s characterization is how good the conflict and problems Yuuri and Victor have are. Like they’re honest to god relationship things and fuck!!!!!!!!! It’s so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But essentially, Yuuri and Victor need to have a good oldfashioned talk but that’s not going to happen because Tash is about to rip out our hearts and I’m ready for once.

It was gonna be long I just really fucking love brighter and i cannot express that enough. I tried to be coherent here in talking about all the things I enjoyed and I definitely missed something like the JJ conflict but this is almost 2k in length and I’m really embarrassed bcos of how passionate I am about this.
