This blog is about videogames technically, I know.

I've played both of the ps4 spider-man games this year and they bewitched me. Beautiful and so so fun and so damn satisfying to play honestly. Peter Parker is perfectly balanced between being endearing and being an annoying little dweeb I wanna shove into a locker. Miles Morales is characterised perfectly (my sweet little boy my dearest son whom I love so dearly) and I was also pleased that Miles' game didn't shy away from the themes of race trauma that come with his narrative. The dynamic with him and the Tinkerer felt right, it felt like it was hitting some important points about the trauma of growing up a working class person of colour and the precariousness of your opportunities and future in a way that I felt some connection with - a very nice story I think, even if it was shorter than I anticipated.

The story being slightly shorter than I would have liked though, it kind of balanced out a bit by how rich it is with detail and characterisation. All of the characters in Miles' narrative are given just enough development and attention, so I don't feel entirely cheaped out by the story being short.

Plus the side stories are adorable, exploring Miles' journey of self discovery as he establishes himself as both a 'second spider-man' but also as a young man of colour working in a role that is associated with whiteness. I feel there was a lot there that helped strengthen the player's connection with him. (I'm biased, of course, being a brown hispanic person who always felt some connection with Miles Morales lol)

There were points in Spider-Man Miles Morales that made me feel pangs of real emotion, you know, which means they certainly did a lot of things right.

Oh, and that one side story in which he and the Prowler work together to produce a little song with the samples his dad wanted to make music with??? Oh, you best believe I melted into a little puddle on the floor because it was so beautiful. I've always had a special attachment to Miles' interest in music because hey, I was also a little hispanic boy who used to hog the computer for hours to play around with my silly little experimental beats when I was in primary school. Dude, I've been him and I am him. Made me feel so many things.

Overall, I think I was impressed by the sheer amount of stuff there was to do in the first one and how much they managed to fit into the game... But in terms of writing and characters I think Miles Morales was a far better experience for me. There were so many points where I felt emotional playing it, connecting deeply with it as a nerdy hispanic POC, so kudos for that.

There's the obvious things you've probably heard before, too - the movement mechanics being extremely satisfying and cathartic, the environments and sounds being super engaging... Even simply swinging around through New York feels really fun, which is 100% vital for any Spider-Man game. Since the ps2 era, nobody wants to play a Spider-Man game that doesn't have smooth and satifying movement mechanics. These games absolutely impress in that regard, of course. I'm soooo late of course, because when the games originally came out I couldn't afford them but I'm so glad I got copies and played them through. They were so worth it!

I have pretty bad anxiety, so I tend to overthink and I’m frequently stressed even if I don’t show it, and even about small things that most people don’t even think about. I’m also super awkward and shy especially when I first meet people especially since I sometimes struggle to read social situations, I’m really not the type to initiate conversations much at first and I even struggle with initiating physical affection with someone I’m close to. Once I feel safe and close with someone I tend to ramble quite a lot about my interests or just topics I’ve dived into recently, and I think I’m a pretty good listener as well! :) I try my best to generally be a friendly person and look out for others, and I tend to avoid conflict unless someone I love is being hurt. My worst trait is probably my procrastination. I’m currently in college and studying to hopefully become an either an ELA or sociology professor, not totally sure yet. I really love learning about things I find interesting/important and getting to share what I learn with people :] 

Qualities in a Partner: Confidence/willingness to initiate since it’s something I struggle with, someone who’s patient and willing to listen when I’m having a hard time (and I’m more than happy to do the same in return) and someone honest and loyal. Since I’m very anxious, I’d prefer someone who’s open with their affection with me! They don’t have to make it super obvious in public or anything though:)

Let me preface this by saying that since the Finnish language doesn’t have gendered personal pronouns, a lot of songs are open for interpretation when it comes to gender and sexuality! First off, I think it’s essential to start with the Finnish lesbian anthem: ”Ihmisten edessä” by Jenni Vartiainen. This song is really important for many people my age, as it was pretty much ”Baby’s first exposure to non-het relationships” to a lot of people. The song is an absolute banger, and, fun fact, was written and composed by Teemu Brunila, who is believed to be the voice behind Studio Killers’ singer Cherry. Thus it’s likely that he may even have been involved in the creation of Jenny, which is another lesbian anthem.

Then we have our UMK contestants who didn’t quite make it to the Eurovision like Benjamin who competed with the song ”Hoida Mut” in 2023, Isaac Sene who competed with the song ”Kuuma jäbä” in 2022, and Erika Vikman, who competed in 2020 with the song ”Cicciolina”. Out of these three, Hoida Mut and Kuuma jäbä make it obvious that they’re about gay relationships, while Cicciolina is open for interpretation (which may be because Erika is bisexual). Of course, there is also Saara Aalto, who competed in the Eurovision song contest in 2018 with ”Monsters”.  Out of her songs that are in Finnish, I personally like the song ”Tähdet, taivas ja sä” the most.

One of my favourite Finnish LGBTQ artists is SANNI. Some of my favourite songs by her are 2080-luvulla, Hei kevät, and Pornoo.

The singer Siiri Nordin is also LGBTQ. Her cover of the song "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart”, called ”Sydämeni osuman sai” is very lovely.

I can’t say I’m super familiar with the career of Sini Yasemin, however she is an emerging LGBTQ artist whose work is also worth looking into! Her cover of Rakkautta ja piikkilankaa (originally performed by the rock group Uniklubi) is probably a safe place to start if you want to get a grasp of her sound.

i'll be honest i might not be the best person to ask this but i'll try my best to answer!! hope it helps at all lol <3 if anyone else has better suggestions/other good tips pls feel free to give them i'd also be happy to know them!!

so! finding clips is always the most difficult and probably the most time consuming part of making an edit for me.. but usually i just try to look for ready scene packs that all the very lovely people on the internet compile 🙏 but f1's own youtube channel also has a lot of very good content! you just have to know what you're looking for over there and you'll have to skim through a lot of other content to find the good stuff,, but their channel is especially good for racing content itself (obviously) and their videos are almost always available in 1080p which is a huge perk!! they also have some of their own compilation videos which can be very useful. and ofc teams' own social medias have a lot of content and usually their youtube channels have a lot of good video content about race weekends beyond the race (which, i think i'm stating the obvious here but yeah)! so honestly it's a bit of a scavanger hunt and you just have to be patient, especially if you're picky with the cohesion of your clips like me 😭😭

and i'll be honest with you i know nothing about clipchamp 😭 i used to use premiere pro until the free access i had to it at the time stopped and then i couldn't be bothered to find a good pc alternative.. but honestly i think it totally depends on what kind of editing style you're going for! if you have a similar style to mine i'm pretty sure most editing softwares have the capacity for that! as long as you can import clips, music and fonts and can work in enough detail (!!!) you can probably make it work with enough time!! ofc then the main differences between softwares are in the interface, intuitivity and usability so it might take a bit of trial and error, as well as getting used to, to find a software that works for you! then again if you want to use more fancy effects, transitions and tools you'll most likely have to look around quite a bit and usually free softwares don't have super great options on that front unfortunately.. there's a lot of recommendations on the internet tho so if that's the case you'll just likely have to spend quite a bit of time researching and trying stuff out but you might find something very good from people's recommendations ! (if you do pls share them with me lol)

also i can't believe i'm exposing my best kept editing secret just for you anon BUT if you're not opposed to editing on mobile i'd very heavily recommend an app called inshot, which is what i use!!! i think it has a super super impressive variety of different kinds of effects and a lot of very useful tools you don't find in every editing software! they keep constantly updating it and adding new features too, it's been heavily updated in the past couple years and seems like it'll just keep getting better! plus it's completely free, you just have to watch an ad while exporting your final video lol,,

What inspires your art? Like, how did you come up with your art style, how happy you are with it and if there are any other artists that inspire you?

Asking a few people as a way to understand and grow as an artist at a crossroads. Have a good day.

That's a big question! lol

Inspiration:

I think it's fair to say that I'm inspired by a wide variety of things, and that's what tends to combine to influence art—most of my art comes from a place of wanting to communicate what I'm thinking, just like my writing does. Some things are easier to communicate visually, and some linguistically. I took a variety of classes in college as part of my degree, including some unrelated to it, such as cinematography, lots of art history, etc. and I think having an understanding of those things can help to cultivate an understanding of what goes into... everything, really. Composition, color, form factor, material, history. I find it all interesting and I like to think about those things when I write and draw because I like to have concrete ideas of place and object.

Influences range from manga to books to superhero comics (I mean, obviously), cartoons, music, movies, and whatever else, but also of course other little things from day to day life whether that's personal experiences, specific imagery (of a sunset or something else), foods, outfits I see on the bus, and so on. It's very much a matter of absorbing the world around oneself and translating that into images (or words).

There are definitely a lot of artists that inspire me! Not necessarily style influence but some of my current favorite artists include (but are not limited to) Petra Nordlund, zombieisok, Nick Robles, Esad Ribić, Tradd Moore, Cathy Kwan, Tess Stone, and a whole bunch of other people (too many to list them all!)

Like, Ryōko Kui has great art! Dungeon Meshi is super pretty. It's great to read comics and see great art—I love the way Non-Stop Spider-Man (Chris Bachalo) looks, I really like David Lafuente's work in Radiant Red, Scott Hepburn does some really cool work, I really enjoy the way Eduardo Ferigato draws the characters in Radiant Black (esp Marshall), etc. etc. etc. there are a ton of artists whose work I love!

And! I think this is important—my friends! Spending time talking to my friends has always been a source of inspiration for things to write or draw, since I was in middle school at least. It's fun to bounce ideas off of each other and I enjoy it a lot even when I don't draw or write something related to whatever convo (which, lbr, is most of the time lol)

Art style:

Off the top of my head, there are some specific things I studied on purpose in middle or high school while drawing—Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket and CLAMP's works in general but especially Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE and xxxHolic were very influential on my developing art style. What I did then was not try to make my art look Like CLAMP or Like Takaya at all times, but rather mostly looking at things like how they would draw ears or whatever else, though I also did copies/studies of specific panels (freehand, not traced) where the goal was to make it look like the source to understand shapes etc.

I think that CLAMP's shōnen manga style influence is probably still wildly obvious in my art—I draw people very long-limbed and I know it! (lmao)

I was also definitely influenced/inspired by Nanae Chrono's Vassalord, plus some anime like Tiger & Bunny, which I adored in high school.

Tess Stone's work overall but esp Hanna is Not a Boy's Name has also always inspired me a lot, though I'm not sure to what extent his art has influenced mine—but I think it would be a lie to say it hasn't lol. His work with shape language, color, typography, etc. is next level 👌

As far as more recent influences, it's harder to say. I look at a lot of art, read a lot of comics, and so on, so I pick up small things through osmosis from all of the things around me, inevitably, as well as looking at reference photos. So art style is of course the specific way I process the world and art and so on—the corners of mouths, the shapes of shoes—and re-combine it on paper, and it varies from the very simple 10 minute chibi doodles to the more rare and intensive full illustrations that take 10 hours/multiple days.

As far as my own art quality/satisfaction, I'd say at this point I tend to be mostly neutral on it as a whole, with of course specific pieces I like a lot or some that didn't turn out quite right. I know I have strengths and weaknesses and I only took one or two drawing classes growing up, a couple of painting classes (a few how to draw books)... nothing more than rudimentary basics for the most part.

I have a very hard time grokking some things, esp as it pertains to spatial awareness and dimensionality (my irl coordination and proprioception isn't great, which I'm sure is related). Complicated perspective is hard, sure, but just making objects feel like objects is also difficult so I often have to spend a long time working that kind of thing out when I include stuff like turnarounds or alternate angles. My art has a strong element of harsh-edged two-dimensionality, imo, whether shaded or not, and I know that—that's not necessarily a bad thing, but there are times when it's not what I need lol

But I like the way I draw people, anyway, even if stiffness is a problem, and I enjoy drawing shoes and clothes and faces and so on, and I know my anatomy has improved a lot in the past 5 years or so which is always fun to see. Looking back on something and being like, "man that's rough," is like—a concrete sign of improvement, that's for sure. looking with new eyes.

So I am almost entirely self taught, and I tend to draw—as mentioned earlier—to communicate something specific, so while I drew more constantly as a child, as an adult I don't spend a lot of time just doodling (esp now that I'm not in school anymore lol) or anything like that... I look at references a lot more though lol

I should probably do some studies like figure drawing or take some more advanced classes, and I would like to do so at some point in the future, but for now I'm fine just doing whatever. I have a lot of hobbies (and ADHD) so sometimes it's like... help 😂

ok idk if this is supposed to be summed into one but i’ll do all — i like to read romance if it isn’t obvious enough, i used to stay up till morning binge reading shoujo, webtoon and (light) novels a lot … and even read it during class like actual nonstop i was insane. for watching, definitely action or fantasy (shows like noragami, tbhk, beyond the boundary, atla, gravity falls etc where romance is a subplot!!!!!!!) but im not picky about what i watch. for writing …. i’m sure it’s obvious i only write romance (cuz i’m delusional) and i would be horrible at writing any other genre looool

🌺 what is the best gift someone has ever given you and why is it so important

oh this is hard i don’t remember any … i honestly don’t really have any sentimental gifts that i would never ever want to part with (i’d argue my love language is gift giving … i make 🔥🔥 cards for my friends bdays lol) but i think it’ll probably be a cow themed photocard holder and a bunch of custom pcs that was gifted by my friend last year because i was a diehard kpop stan and collected photocards so the fact that he considered that and remembered really shocked me since i wasn’t expecting any gifts that year ^o^

chase atlantic, wave to earth, dvwn, seventeen !! my music taste is very vast and i listen to a lot of artists but these are the artists whose entire discography i’ve explored and really really liked <3 ill also answer a bit of 🎤 because i want to brag but i’m seeing wte in september and i’m super duper excited yaayyyy i also saw seventeen last yr in sept and it was hands down one of the best days of my life :’) first concert and i could not get over it for the next month

I actually found this kind of hard to do, 'cause there are so many shows out there and many that I love. But I think I've narrowed it down to shows that represent different parts of me or were influential to who I have become. Also, I'm assuming by "show" it means TV shows and not musicals.

1) Beyond Evil (2021) It's obvious. I'm not going to go into too much detail because a quick search on my tumblr and it becomes pretty clear what this story means to me. It's my favourite show- I think about it every day and have dedicated so many hours to it. It has changed me so profoundly and I feel like no matter how many times I view it, it still finds a way of enriching me. (Before BE, or BBE if you will, my tumblr was a pretty normal place and now, it's just a fanpage to this show lol). I'm so thankful that Netflix recommended this show to me. (for anyone who doesn't know: this is a really important, layered story that just makes any other mystery drama look silly in comparison)

2. Luther (2010) I'm sorry Shin Ha Kyun but the Korean version of Luther is rubbish in comparison. THIS SHOW! Oh my goodness, I love it so much. It was everything to me throughout my late teens and I'm super excited that there are more episodes on Netflix. Honestly, the storytelling and parallels!!! and the use of the colour red really opened my mind to how one can visually tell a story. (It may be time for a rewatch and get scared all over again).

3) Ted Lasso (2020) This is a new addition to my life. Back in 2021 when my partner wanted me to watch Ted Lasso, I outright refused because I didn't want to watch a TV show about football. BUT! But. But then the wonderful @loisroo kept hyping it up (rightfully so) and I decided to give it a go. I binged it at the beginning of this year and it was a beacon of hope during a difficult time. This story and its wonderful characters have reinforced so many life lessons that I tend to ignore. It helps me gain a better understanding of people and friendships, second chances and forgiveness, and when to ask for help. Ugh, it's beautiful and I'm so excited for season 3.

4) Merlin (2008) I mean... I've spoken about it many times so I won't go on and on. But I adore this show (yes, it's janky and awkward at times but that's part of its charm. Plus, Morgana did nothing wrong and I will always stand by that lol), it was the reason I started writing fanfiction. I- ughhhhhh. Yeah. It did a lot for me in my teens.

5) Fleabag (2016) WOMEN. WOMEN WRITERS. 6) Skins (2007) Yes, it's cringy. Yes, it's kind of embarrassing for me to add it to this list. But this show really helped me throughout my teens. It showed teenagers being messy and making mistakes, hurting one another and themselves. It showcased mental health issues, poor relationships with parents, as well as focusing heavily on sexuality. Being a queer kid from a strict religious background, this show was important. And yes, it got really silly towards the end but there are still so many fantastic moments. It's not perfect but it doesn't have to be. Plus it gave me Dev Patel, which I am forever grateful for. (If anyone's interested, my favourite characters are Tony, Cook, and Katie. I love a troublemaker).

7) Chernobyl (2019) Yeah, I probably should have put Game of Thrones in this slot but I'm still mad about it, so Chernobyl will take its place. What can I say? It's one of the best TV shows ever made (thank you Johan Renck and Craig Mazin)

8) The Last of Us (2023) Yeah, I know. I can already hear people saying it's not even fully out yet and blahblahblah. Listen, this show is a form of therapy to me and I don't care. It's my favourite thing I've seen since Beyond Evil. (I may prefer it to the games..... 👀) (I'm happy this story exists. So thank you Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin)

1. Are you named after anyone? ... unfortunately yes. queen elizabeth. my mum's family has been naming their kids that way for like 3 generations and the name aside from that has a lot of importance to me so i kept it

2. When was the last time you cried? i don't know, probably last week?

3. Do you have kids? no but i consider my pets my children (not in the annoying "i know what parenthood is like! i have a dog" thing but bc i love them very very much and i feel strongly like a mum to them etc)

Do you use sarcasm a lot? not super i think?? i mostly tag along if someone uses sarcasm but i sometimes do myself. i prefer when sarcasm is either obvious in that it's suuuuper clearly exaggerated or when it's just completely nonsensical and probably only funny to me so i dont do it much organically

5. What sports do you play/have played? i never like, got on a team for anything, or did anything outside of gym glass, but i liked badminton. oh and in grade 4 i went to my school district's like cross country running thingy and i got in 101st place. one of the only non seizure/basically toxic shock syndrome related times i've fainted was next year's tryouts when it was too hot with a jacket but too cold without and i ran with a jacket on. oh and um i've played bloodbowl a couple times but also was never in a league but like i was gonna be

I DO i love to talk about them. lentug is my beautiful snake daughter, she is a ball python, she is about a year old now but i celebrate my pets' birthdays as the day i got them and it hasnt been that long yet. shes so sweet and loves getting water poured on her and shes SUCH a good eater. then theres gawi, my precious guinea pig daughter who is a sweet little angel baby with me and licks instead of biting and has Big Feelings and Issues and Particularities but she is a bully to the others just a little bit. then dr pepper, who just turned a year old recently also and is a weird little freak of a guinea pig. she's a himalayan rex so she's albino, colorpoint, and has weird curly/frizzy fur and she bites to maim and she's SO fucking tiny even though she was the biggest of the litter and from two of the biggest guinea pig breeds. then there's my new little beasts: bobo, my old lady guinea pig who is all rumpled and so sweet and soft and loves her cuddly houses, and caramel, my even weirder freak naked beast of a guinea pig, whose ears slap when she shakes her head.

I see jikookers saying that the latest jungkook with wooga squad is work related and I can't help but laugh out loud for real! What could possibly be work related? And the bowling thing? He clearly enjoys spending time with them and although for me it doesn't say anything about his relationship with jimin (it's not like spending time with other people means you're no longer friends with your other friends) it does say a lot about his character and I'm disappointed. Wooga are childish, rich and famous and spoiled snobs and I really don't get why he hangs with them. I feel like they're also a bad influence on him. He's more than old enough to make his choices, but I don't have to like them. And I would say the same if it was jimin suddenly hanging out with those people too. Others are saying that now that jimin is super busy jungkook spends time with them...okay?? and is he forced at gun point? Are those the only people on the planet he could hang with? And when jungkook was booked and busy jimin wasn't and hasn't been spending time with tae even just them, let alone with the exclusive friend group. He's such a flag in the wind...

I mean... Jungkook grew up in the idol life and his friends have always been celebrities. I kinda think this makes sense lol. That and the fact that Taehyung most likely introduced all of them to JK so they could spend more time together, and it probably worked out. If they're all going to musicals and shit, they must obviously have interests in common. I don't think they're a bad influence tho, because for one, I don't know that much about them; and two, I don't think JK is that easily influenced.

No, of course you don't have to like them. I've always said fans really do the most to act like they love all of their friends and family members and that's... not it. They are the idols, not their relatives and their friends.

Yeah, tbh vmin never spent that much time together not even while they were BTS. I think it was obvious that they wouldn't be the closest buddies as in hangouts after BTS either.

Jikookers also keep talking about how busy Jimin is but I'm pretty sure Jimin was home last night, chilling, watching TV, Yoongi's show and Hoseok's MV while taekook were at the play. Then Jungkook went home alone and spent the night alone. If Jimin is so busy he can barely squeeze in time to see JK, what's the excuse for last night? All that talk about how busy Jimin is as if he was busy in a different city or country when in reality they live like 10 minutes away from each other, AT MOST. They're financially independent and they can drive. I was 15 y/o dating someone that lived in the other part of town and I would still go to her house everyday. My dad could've probably drove up there with his eyes closed. Given all their privileges and the means at their reach, there is literally no excuse for jikook, no matter how busy they might be.

I've been wanting to say this for a while, btw. Last night, added up to Hoseok's birthday just was the last drop on the glass when it comes to my patience on how delusional people are acting. It was Hoseok's last birthday before military but only Jimin was there. And they were both busy that day, but they still met up after work to have a little celebration. I don't think suddenly everyone else had a very important shoot at the same time so that they couldn't be there. I really believe that jikook apparently not meeting that much or even not meeting at all is definitely not a schedule problem.

“Tears Can Be So Soft” - Christine and the Queens

◇ featured on Paranoïa, Angels, True Love - Christine and the Queens (not yet released) ◇ genres: trip-hop, alt-pop

To be completely honest, I’m not super familiar with a lot of Christine and the Queens work. I love his feature on Charli XCX’s “Gone” and I thought his 2020 EP La vita nuova was pretty decent as well, but other than that I’m pretty much clueless. Despite that, his latest single absolutely blew me away. “Tears Can Be So Soft” takes obvious inspiration from 90s trip-hop, but god it sounds so incredible. The wispy, dreamy vocals backed against a string arrangement sampled from a Marvin Gaye song is a combo that works extremely well. I absolutely love this song and its probably my favorite of this month. If his next album is gonna sound like this, I’m super excited.

“Babylon By Bus” (feat. ShrapKnel) - billy woods & Kenny Segal

◇ featured on Maps - billy woods & Kenny Segal ◇ genre: abstract hip-hop

Maps, the latest collaboration between billy woods and Kenny Segal, is probably the most standout album of the month. Many of the tracks on the album could’ve made this list, but I wanted to limit it to a single one. “Babylon By Bus” is the song I’ve revisited the most. Like a lot of billy woods’ work, this song has that eerie and off-putting feel that makes him stand out. The verses from woods are very strong, but so is the verse from rap group ShrapKnel. I hadn’t heard of them until this and I will probably listen to more of their stuff in the future! Excellent song and an incredible album that I highly recommend.

“Justify Your Life” - George Clanton

◇ featured on Ooh Rap I Ya - George Clanton (not yet released) ◇ genres: chillwave, baggy, neo-psychadelia

George Clanton’s previous single, “I Been Young”, was my favorite song of last month and his latest single is one of my favorite songs of this month. “Justify Your Life” follows the 90s nostalgia of the previous single and I love this sound so much. Judging by the art direction of these two singles, it seems like this sound is what Clanton is going with for this new album which is super exciting. This track sounds a bit darker than the last, but it still has one of those choruses you just wanna obnoxiously sing along to. This upcoming album has the potential to be my album of the year given how incredible these singles have been.

“AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM” - Beyoncé & Kendrick Lamar

◇ genres: electro, pop rap

Breaking down this song and explaining why its good feels a little bit pointless. Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar, two of the most important artists of our time, team up on a remix of a song from her excellent 2022 album RENAISSANCE. Obviously it’s great, look who is involved. Go listen.

“The Blades” - Squid

◇ featured on O Monolith - Squid (not yet released) ◇ genres: experimental rock, art rock

This new Squid album comes out in a few weeks and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve enjoyed the bands earlier EPs and Bright Green Field, but I think this new album could very well be their best so far. “The Blades” is yet another great single. The band has been playing around with added touches of different genres into their sound and it just keeps paying off. The little elements of krautrock are especially a nice touch. I have very high hopes for this new album and I can’t wait to hear it.

“Space Orphans” - Ichiko Aoba

◇ genre: chamber folk

I’ve been slowly working my way through Ichiko Aoba’s discography after adoring her 2020 album Windswept Adan. I wasn’t aware of this new single until after this post was published so I’m adding it in post. This new single is a gorgeous, spacey, chamber folk ballad that is very easy to listen to. The soft strings that occasionally accompany her voice and guitar are a very nice touch. Every time I dive into the world of her music, I am completely captivated. 

“Cops and robbers” - underscores

◇ genres: noise pop, indietronica

I absolutely loved underscores’ debut album Fishmonger and I have been anticipating whatever they were gonna follow it up with. Their latest single “Cops and robbers” builds upon the sound of their last album, but with a bit more polish. It has elements of hyperpop mixed with noisy instrumentation and a chorus that is clearly inspired by pop-punk of the 2000s. These all work together so well. Hopefully this is leading up to a new album.

“sulky baby” - yeule

◇ genres: dream pop, indie pop

yeule is an artist whose music I need to dive into further. I enjoyed a good bit of their last album Glitch Princess, but I couldn’t have anticipated how great this song is. “sulky baby” is one of the finest dream pop songs I’ve heard in a while. I absolutely adore the way the hazy guitar lures you into the track before everything comes to create this incredible burst of dreamy goodness. This is without a doubt one of my favorite tracks of the year so far.

“Zeitgeist” - Maruja

◇ genres: experimental rock, art punk, post-punk

Fresh off of dropping a really impressive EP, Maruja returns with another great song. If you liked their debut EP, I’m sure you will love this new single. One thing I love about this band is their consistently interesting instrumentation. The bass towards the start of this track is really cool and adding saxophone into a post-punk song is always a recipe for something great. This band is on fire right now and I can’t wait to see what they have coming up.

“Master P (feat. Big Sean)” - KAYTRAMINÉ

◇ featured on KAYTRAMINÉ - KAYTRAMINÉ ◇ genre: pop-rap

KAYTRANADA and Aminé joined forces to make a very good summer album. There are plenty of highlights across the project, but I wanted to shout out this track in particular. “Master P” isn’t the most summer-y on the album, but I think its one of the biggest highlights on the album. I think this track has some of Aminé’s strongest rapping in a while and when Big Sean’s verse comes in the track is elevated even more. Really loving this one.

“Infinity Repeating (2013 Demo)” - Daft Punk & Julian Casablancas + The Voidz

◇ featured on Random Access Memories (10th Anniversary Edition) - Daft Punk ◇ genres: disco, electronic

It kinda feels like cheating putting this on here, but I feel like I have to mention it. The 10th anniversary edition of Daft Punk’s magnificent final studio album dropped this month alongside a handful of new demos and extra songs. One such demo is a collaboration with Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas. Daft Punk and Casablancas teamed up for the incredible “Instant Crush” which ended up on the album. I guess this demo was what eventually evolved into that song and I think it holds its own pretty well. If you liked their previous collab, I think you will find something to love about this demo!

8. Which tf character has the most different personality from you? Uhhhhh that’s a good question. Maybe RiD’15 Drift? He’s very rigid and not likely to have fun for the sake of having fun. Also most iterations of Shockwave are far more logical than I like to be. Sure, logic is important, but Shockwave seems to go overboard in my book. 10. Which tf character do you think you’d get along with really badly? Probably Starscream, any continuity. He's such a backstabber and I value loyalty; he's super narcissistic and people like that are quite annoying to me. Plus he's generally not very fond of humans and talks down to them, and I'm very feisty so our interactions would probably go much like Miko's and his in TFP. Many insults, mutual disgust. I can appreciate his character in a show but I know I could not stand him in real life haha. 12. List a piece of art not from transformers that you think fits a tf character! Hmm this took me a bit of digging...there wasn't one that came to mind instantly, but it was interesting to consider! Reposting is BAD kids(TM) so here's direct links to artists’ works instead! ;)

First off: this beautiful ocean art by Kazami is really inspiring to me. Most people probably don’t think of the ocean when they think Transformers, but...put simply, it reminds me of the ’Waves ;) I have AU versions of Shockwave and Soundwave occupying my mind, their designs inspired by the sea. And the depth in this particular piece is absolutely gorgeous. The brighter colors are reminiscent of neon, which also makes me think Wavebros, and the darker colors add to the ominous, frightening feel of the deep ocean, ever fitting for those two Decepticons.  Oh! You’d probably like this as well! There’s a Fire Emblem character whose design I am absolutely in love with. He’s so spooky!!! His name is Líf and I haven’t reached his chapter in the story yet, but I’m so looking forward to that day because his design alone intrigues me. 💜 What does this have to do with Transformers? Well, he reminds me of Soundwave the most, but his “lightning antennae,” lol, remind me of both Soundwave and Optimus, which is a very interesting combination. Líf’s design gets me thinking about the uncanny ways Soundwave and Optimus are similar, something I hadn’t really considered in depth before. It’s quite fun. I really like this dude in case it wasn’t obvious by how many of these I’m sharing 17. Which piece of music from a tf media is your favorite? I'm so glad you asked this question!!! I was hoping someone would 😊 This would have to be, hands down, "Did You Forget Who I Am" from The Last Knight. The Bayverse is full of terrible, terrible elements, but Steve Jablonsky’s score is not one of those. All the soundtracks are incredible. And this scene from TLK is so iconic that, every time I listen to the music, I can hear Optimus' voice fill in that beat of silence with the mighty, chilling line that Peter Cullen delivered so well. 💙 It also has a special place in my heart because...I can’t help but see a connection to my faith :) This scene and therefore this song are good reminders for me when I’m having a bad day. Side note: The fact that this song surpassed the TFP theme to become my favorite Transformers piece of music really says a lot about its impact. 19. Which depiction of cybertron in a tf media do you most want to live in? Does the answer vary depending on if you’re human or cybertronian? Lol okay so gut reaction would say "G1 Cybertron" because 1) humans can apparently breathe up there without issue (and not be harmed by acid rain, so that's a huge plus), and 2) while the Autobots and Decepticons were bickering on earth I could just go hang out with Shockwave, who's all alone just chilling 😂 But if oxygen wasn't an issue? Definitely post-Predacons-Rising Cybertron. I would love to rebuild the planet along with Team Prime and listen to their stories as they began to heal emotionally from the long conflict. I would also love to see what elements of the planet they repaired true to the original design, and which elements they rebuilt completely to start off on a blank slate, and the implications of each decision. It would be cool to live in a revitalized Cybertron and watch refugees return and new sparks be forged gradually over time until the planet was bustling again. And if I could show up a bit earlier and be present for Bumblebee's Warrior knighting ceremony that would be pretty cool too. 💛

I really associate this song with Daffy, for the fact that, a lot of the time he fools himself into thinking that the stuff he’s saying is true. But really, under it all, he knows it’s all just an act. ‘Mirrors and smoke’ like it says in the song. And putting on that act, acting larger than life, and trying to charm everyone all the time --- it’s exhausting. And sometimes, when he comes back to himself a bit and realizes that he’s kind of lost himself in it all ‘traded in who he’d been for shiny celebrity skin’, he thinks privately to himself how much he just wants to be himself and let that whole act drop. Which he doesn’t for various other reasons that I could get into later haha.

Alright, this song is another one that i’ve always associated with Daffy. It’s kind of in the same vein as the previous song, but from a slightly different perspective. Like, I HC that Daff has periods where he thinks he’s on top of the fucking world, and then periods where he’s hit with reality and some humbleness seeps in (like in the previous song); AND THEN moments where he feels like a total second banana fucking failure--- and that’s what this song represents. 

Like he knows that sweeping all of his flaws under the metaphorical carpet is really fucking him up big time. He knows that placing so many expectations on himself that he can’t possibly live up to isn’t good for his emotional well-being, and when he inevitably doesn’t live up to his own crazy expectations, he just gets DOWN, man.

But he still does it, and he can’t let it go. Because deep down his self-esteem is such shit. He wants to grab that praise and respect and admiration and love all for himself, by tearing others down, by being selfish, by praising himself and constantly trying to feed his ego --- like it’s all to make himself feel important and to convince himself that he’s loved and worthy of being loved.

Which is dumb on his part bc he’s putting so much pressure on himself, when literally all he has to do to be loved is to not try, and to simply accept his flaws and realize that no one’s perfect and he’s interesting and lovable and stuff without being the #1 BEST AT EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD. 

Like he thinks he’s unlovable, so he acts like an asshole trying to grab that love for himself. So he’s becoming his own ‘self-fulfilled prophecy’, like it says in the song.

This song isn’t nearly as deep as the others lmao. It’s pretty straight-forward and literal. Daffy just wants fame and glory and to be rich. All of this stuff. This whole song. One thing though, is that as soon as he felt like, fulfilled, he’d actually start thinking about ppl other than himself ( maslow’s hierarchy of neeeeeds )  like it jumps from selfishly filling his own desires in the song, to giving back to people. Because ultimately what he wants is to be loved and respected, and he’d find out that he could get that by giving back to people. And SURPRISE SURPRISE, helping people and making them happy actually makes HIM happy too. So i do associate it with that, but yeah haha, this song is basically exactly literal.

THIS SONG. THIS SONG RIGHT HERE OKAY. I have so many feelings associated with this song ♥ like, okay. I could go so in-depth about everything I’ve thought about regarding this song. There are so many different aspects to it that I ascribe to Daff’s character ( i’m not joking when i say i think about things to music lmao). So I’ll just go over what it means generally to me for now:

Okay, so generally, to me, this song represents Daff’s indecisiveness about who he is and who he wants to be and what he stands for and things. Like, especially now with how he’s getting to know his past wives and attempting to reconnect with his children and smooth things over and take responsibility for his actions, he’s learning more and more about how his actions affect others, and he’s actually beginning to care. But then he still juggles with that deep-seeded ‘me me me i look out for myself’ mentality that’s been like drilled deep into his subconscious by now. So he’s juggling with himself.

The verses that i described up above are basically him flip-flopping between moods, kinda like i described in ' Oh no! ’. like he feels on top of the world sometimes, and sometimes he feels like ‘aw shit why’d i say that, that was so fucking dumb’. Sometimes he charms people and does things right and everything works out for him. And sometimes (lots of the time actually lmao) he just royally shoves his own foot in his own mouth and screws himself over by being a selfish asshole.

And when he reflects back on it, he wonders what he even ‘stands for’, or like, what he’s trying to accomplish, because he knows that making people feel like crap isn’t what he wants to stand for. But he doesn’t know what his ultimate goal in life is either. Because it’s not ‘glory’ or ‘riches’ or ‘being worshipped’. It’s just being loved genuinely and making people happy through his own expression of who he actually is. He’s just got to get over his shit self-esteem and realize that’s what he ultimately wants first.

But until then, he’s got no fucking clue what he’s doing.
