hewwo nika. please enlighten me on the wonderful world of revue starlight... where would be the best place to start, since i know it's a multimedia series?
HI FAITH!!!! đ Well. Basically the revue starlight canon is the anime, movie(s), stageplays and gacha game. I haven't seen the stageplays myself and while i THINK they came first they're not as accessible as the rest.
the 12 episode anime and then "revue starlight the movie (aka revue starlight gekijouban)" are the best place to start. there's also a recap movie (rondo rondo rondo) which is basically the same as the series just condensed and with a few extra scenes regarding a certain character. (DON'T WATCH THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE SERIES FIRST THOUGH)
AS FOR THE GAME i don't think it's really necessary as such?? but you can read the stories online without having to play the game and there are some really good characters that get introduced in it :3 there's also a visual novel (iirc) coming out sometime but i have no idea if it will get localised.
AS A GENERAL THING THO revue starlight is a bit. abstract. it's worth watching the series â watching the movie â watching the series again, but with added context :3 IT'S NOT LIKE. SUPER COMPLICATED or anything like that but on my first watch of it i went through the series way too fast and missed a lot of the symbolism and subtle storytelling
IT'S SO GOOD THOUGH if u do end up watching it send me a message i would love to hear your thoughts :3 đ«¶đ«¶đ«¶đ«¶

So, you don't wanna play Nintendo games
As I'm sure a lot of you lovely folks out there have seen, Nintendo recently did its most recent act of evil by suing the dev team behind both the Citra and Yuzu emulators. While I won't get into how I feel about it as a fan of media archival work and a massively passionate fan of video game history, this is despicable to say the least. What I WILL do, is get straight to the point the title says! So, you don't wanna play Nintendo games? Well do I have some games for you! I've seen a few posts like this floating around, and I absolutely adored the concept of talking about niche/lesser known titles that get overshadowed in their genre by bigger names, such as Nintendo. As an avid player of weird and wonderful games throughout my life I think I've got some good ones that I've slotted into some neat categories below. I hope you enjoy this post! And I hope you take a new favourite away as well!
(Note: All of the games listed below are available to play on very easily accessible emulators.)
So, you like 3D platformers do ya?
-My first and foremost suggestion is always the woefully underappreciated game Taz Wanted.
This wacky platformer sees you in the role of the one and only Taz, or the Tazmanian Devil for long, from the Looney Toons property. The game revolves around you entering large colourful levels filled with goofy enemies and a lovely cell shaded art style to mimic that classic cartoon look. Within those levels your job is to find and destroy a certain number of wanted posters which can take the form of just about anything. From standing signs to blimps your goal is to solve various platforming challenges, puzzles, and minigames to destroy these posters and secure an item that will assist you in getting to the next hub world. With 4 worlds to explore and each world with 3 levels and a boss fight game at the end, I'm sure any fan of 3D platforming will have a blast.
-Next up is a package deal, the first of which is a 3D platformer predating Mario64! These games are none other than the Jumping Flash! games.
The two games play identically, and are both a seriously good time. Taking place entirely in first person you take up the mantle of intergalactic space hero robot Robbit tasked with collecting a certain number of items in large playground-like levels made with tons of verticality in mind. Why you may ask? Because much like the name suggests Robbit can JUMP. The game employs a fantastically implemented camera system which forces you to look down at Robbit's feet when you use your double/tripple jump, ensuring you can see where you're landing. On top of this, the game's level design feels like a never ending barrage of jungle gyms and challenging boss fights all set to a cartoonish story with bright poppy visuals, and not to mention a soundtrack of absolute bangers
youtube
Okay, but what about the Zelda fans?
-I assure you I haven't forgotten, and my first pick here is an all time favourite of mine ever since I played it when I was like, 8 years old. Sphinx and the cursed mummy is a 3D adventure action game where you play as both the titular Sphinx and the cursed pharaoh to be, Tutankhamen .
The game is heavily inspired by Egyptian mythology and sees you battling and puzzling your way through a world of mysteries and great evils lurking just beneath the surface. Exciting battles, puzzle platforming, monster collecting, and so so much more are all front and center in this game, and I really cannot recommend it enough to anyone who wants a different adventuring experience in their life.
-The second and last one in this category I PROMISE a lot of you have heard of but I really want to drive home just HOW GOOD it is. Okami stands tall as one of the best examples of non-Zelda 3D action adventuring.
Taking place in a GORGEOUSLY rendered fantasy rendition of classical Japan, the adventures of the sun goddess Amaterasu are yours to control. I really cannot stress HOW GOOD this game still looks today, even without the HD remasters its been given. The entire game is rendered in a cell-shaded art style reminiscent of classical Japanese paintings, giving the whole world a vibrant painted aesthetic that never EVER gets old. On top of this the game provides a truly unique combat and interaction system, seeing you use a paintbrush to paint your attacks and spells into reality. There isn't much I can say about this game that hasn't been said already, and it's certainly the least niche game on this list. Go give it a shot! You won't regret it.
So we did 3D platformers, but what about 2D?
-Fear not! I've got some solid suggestions for those too! Our first one here is another bundle of 2, those being the Klonoa games.
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and its sequel, Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil, are two of the best 2D platformers I've ever played. Releasing on the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 respectively, these games utilize a 2.5D perspective to let you run back and forth through revolving dioramas of platforming goodness. With a cheery, almost circus-like soundtrack and an adorably charming artstyle to match, I have such fond memories of discovering these games for the first time. The 3D nature of the game's assets allow for some truly impressive setpieces and boss battles, along with the aforementioned circular scrolling you partake in. Bubbling and tossing enemies at each other never seems to get old, or using the same bubbled enemies to get just a little more height to reach a secret. Definitely give these ones a shot if you're a fan of fun 2D playgrounds.
-Here's a real weird one to cap this category off (and another two pack to boot!) Loco Roco 1 and 2 are a set of puzzle platformers with a bit of an unorthodox control scheme.
Coming out on the PSP these are some WILD experiences. In the games you control a horde of blobs that sing with childrens voices to some rather catchy tunes, and tilt the entire world around them with the left and right triggers to get them over under and anything in between, and then to the exit. Did I say you play as the blobs? I meant you play as THE PLANET the blobs are on! See what I mean? These games are absolutely a delightful time though. And with such poppy mid 2000s soundtracks I can't help but love them. The tilting gameplay is tough as nails to master, and getting through a level with all your little Rocos AND the collectibles is no easy task. Give these ones a look! Or at least listen to the soundtrack.
youtube
And at last we arrive at the one's I couldn't think of more for, or couldn't think of where to place.
The next two games are just rapid fire ones that are personal non-nintendo favourites of mine, covering a variety of genres.
Ribbit King is my favourite wacky sports game ever. You play Frolf instead of Golf, Frolf being Golf but with frogs, get it? Send your frog around the bright colourful stages to gather points and be the first one to sink your frog to get the full 1000 available from the hole. Alternatively go for a FROG-IN-ONE to get 1500,
Wipeout is a series of tough as nails futuristic hover-racing games a la F-Zero. The soundtracks boast an inumerable amount of Drum and Bass/Electronic jams and the gameplay is lightning fast and smooth as all hell. Not to mention the games are just SO stylish. I'd recommend Wipeout Pure on the PSP, but all of the PlayStation consoles before the PS3 have at least one Wipeout game. Highly recommend checking them out.
SO obviously I couldn't put EVERY game I'd recommend in one post. But I really do hope this list gives you something new to play. Gaming history is so monumentally important to me, and what happened to Citra and Yuzu is nothing short of a tragedy. Always remember folks, play new games! Play old games! Hack your old hardware! Pirate new software! EMULATION IS FREE, LEGAL, AND FOR EVERYONE!

okay so... give us the list of folk horror films that are good please. đ€Č
ok this took a while but here we go! it ended up being more than 10 lol
the wicker man (1973) - the definitive british folk horror film. midsommar wants to be the wicker man soooo bad it's embarrassing
the blood on satan's claw (1971) - i haven't seen this one in a long time but it's a pretty chilling early 70s british film centring around a demonic cult in 18th century england
night of the demon (1957) - ok so you know the sample at the beginning of hounds of love by kate bush, where a voice says "it's in the trees! it's coming!" that's from this film!!!! just barely in the folk horror category but it's based on a story by m.r. james who is one of THE iconic folk horror writers so imo it counts
a warning to the curious (1972) - also based on a story by m.r. james, this was part of a long-running annual bbc series called 'a ghost story for christmas'. it's only about 30 minutes long and very dated but I think that gives it extra charm and even a bit of extra creepiness
the juniper tree (1990) - icelandic retelling of the grimm's fairy tale, starring björk and featuring an incredibly beautiful soundtrack
the company of wolves (1984) - based on the short stories of angela carter in her compilation 'the bloody chamber'. this is probably more fairytale horror than folk horror but i LOVE this film and if you like intense psychosexual overtones and incredible practical effects then you will too
the devil rides out (1968) - classic hammer horror with christopher lee so you know it's gonna be a banger
wake wood (2009) - probably the most underrated irish horror film of all time (and that's saying a lot bc there really aren't many). really scary film with the "came back but wrong" premise. watch this one
the hallow (2013) - another one from ireland. it's not amazing but including it bc i don't think i've ever seen another horror film fully embrace the idea that faeries are actually terrifying. practical effects are also cool as hell
kill list (2011) - i'll be honest with you I didn't understand half of what was happening in this film and it's been on my to-rewatch list for ages. it starts out as a cerebral cop drama and descends into absolute madness like it literally has to be seen to be believed
a field in england (2013) - probably the modern folk horror film that comes closest to what british directors were doing with the genre in the 70s. it's trippy, impenetrable and often kinda funny, i really recommend this one
pyewacket (2017) - offbeat canadian indie film that you will either find really creepy or really boring. i thought the ending in particular was incredibly chilling
the ritual (2017) - i feel like everyone has seen this film at this point but i had to recommend it anyway bc it blends folk horror with monster movie and it's super fucking terrifying. i also highly recommend the novel by adam neville which if anything is even scarier
the witch (2015) - again everyone has seen this and has an opinion but it's one of my favourite horror films of all time
pet sematary (1989) - the iconic stephen king classic that is still really scary to this day
pumpkinhead (1988) - another film that is super underrated imo. people who love the creature design in the ritual should remember the OG
men (2022) - controversial opinion perhaps but i think this film was actually kinda brilliant. if nothing else it is super twisted and horrifying
on my list of i haven't watched this yet but people say it's really good: penda's fen (1974), witchfinder general (1968), the lair of the white worm (1988) (i know i know i call myself a ken russell fan and i haven't even seen lair of the white worm)
a radio play: children of the stones on bbc radio 4 (available on spotify hee hee)
and a couple of books: fairy tale (1996) by alice thomas ellis, and the owl service (1967) by alan garner. the owl service is for kids but it really did a number on me aged 12 and it still holds up as a classic. I think there's an old bbc series but i haven't got round to watching it yet :)

Tomâs Top Ten | ALBUMS OF 2023
It's (belatedly) that time of year again, let's get into it.
10. Hotel Bleu - Broadside
Iâve made peace with the fact that Broadside record is likely to top Old Bones for me but Hotel Bleu is choc full of plenty of upbeat catchy tunes, a refreshing dose of positivity after their more sombre previous record Into The Raging Sea.
Favourite song: Dazed & Confused
9. Past // Present // Future - Meet Me @ The Altar
MM@TA have delivered a very solid debut record. One downside is the lack of easycore-style riffs and breakdowns (one of the main things that drew me to this bandâs previous EPs) in favour of a more generic pop-punk sound - that said, all songs are plenty catchy and do a great job of showing off Edithâs vocal range, which is front and centre of this record.
Favourite song/s: Say It (To My Face) / Itâs Over For Me
8. Childhood Eyes - Yellowcard
A big year for Yellowcard putting out their first new music since breaking up in 2016, and it delivers. It may just an EP but it's earned it's spot on the list and made me incredibly excited to see what else is on the way from this new era of Yellowcard. Also a collab with Dashboard Confessional? A Spider-Man 2 soundtrack reunion, you love to see it.
Favourite song: Childhood Eyes
7. Slow Burn - Conquer Divide
One of the later albums from the year but I'm glad that I didn't miss this one - Conquer Divide have been something of a 'background band' for me up until now, but this is a record I found myself listening to front to back over and over.
Favourite song: N E W H E A V E N
6. One More Time - Blink-182
I have to confess I have mixed feelings on Blink-182's big comeback album - great to see Tom back in the band and the band back to their classic lineup, lots of great emotion on the title track. Maybe contro but I do think some of the non-single tracks feel a bit pale or watered down compared to the singles, but the singles themselves do have a lot of what I love from that classic Blink sound.
Favourite song: Dance With Me
5. Postcard From A Living Hell - RedHook
RedHook were a new discovery for me this year, and a welcome one at that. This is one of those albums that soon as it came out I had on constant repeat, just banger after banger, not to mention a collab with Mik from Yours Truly; that gets a hell yeah from me.
Favourite song: Inarticulate ft. THE FAIM
4. Join The Club - As December Falls
One of my hottest anticipated releases of the year, As December Falls have come soaring this year, with this their third album and constantly selling out their tours (before i can get a ticket >:( ). Every single song on the tracklist is single worthy and the record makes no shortage of showing off Bethany's vocals, in particular on the emotionally driven 'Home.'
Favourite song: Mayday
3. A Call To The Void - Hot Milk
After knocking out of the park time after time with their EPs, Hot Milk finally released their debut full-length and brought everything that's good about them to the table. From the very first listen I knew this was gonna be a strong contender for AOTY, and indeed was only beaten out by two others.
Favourite song: Alice Cooper's Pool House
2. The Surface - Beartooth
It should be no surprise to my followers seeing Toof pop up on the list, there truly never has been a Beartooth album that hasn't made my top ten and The Surface is no exception. Going against the grain of their MO up until now and releasing an entire metalcore album full of love and positivity was an incredible move, and wonderful to see Caleb find himself in a place where he can write this kind of lyrical content and celebrate his own journey overcoming mental health struggles. The Surface is a welcome addition to the Beartooth catalogue.
Favourite song: I Was Alive
Before we get to the Number One, I'd like to shoutout some honourable mentions that didn't quite make the cut - those being 'Til The Wheels Fall Off - WSTR, Tear Me To Pieces - Story Of The Year, Power To Play - McFly, Untitled Mixtape - Carousel Kings and Linkin Park's 20th Anniverary Edition of Meteora
Also a special shoutout to Sum 41, Neck Deep and Green Day, for their singles off albums that will be released in '24. Good stuff.
With that all out of the way, let's get into my NUMBER ONE ALBUM OF 2023...
1. So Much (For) Stardust - Fall Out Boy
It was tough to crack down on the order of the top three here, but ultimately the number one album couldn't be anything else. I've made no secret that I'm not the biggest fan of the three FOB records prior to this, but here the boys return with a bang combining all that's good about both their pre-hiatus and post-hiatus sounds, resulting in an incredible record that has been definitive for my 2023. What more can I say? Fold Out Bed bloody did it.
Favourite song: Love From The Other Side
And there you have it! Those are my top albums of 2023. We're already a fair way into '24 at the time I'm posting this and this year too is shaping up to have some strong contenders... bring it on.

My Favourite Songs of 2023 part 4: 10 - 1
The final countdown! (synth melody plays)
Previous entries in the series can be found here, here and here.
10. Tyla - Water
youtube
Water sounds like nothing so much as the romance novel version of the last night on a Caribbean holiday; the twitchy afrobeat rhythms feel slightly mischievous while the vibes are relaxed and extremely seductive. Thereâs plenty of fun to be had singing along to the group chorus but itâs the innocent charm of Tylaâs performance that really carries the song. Though Tik Tok is not really known for producing lasting careers, Iâd like to hope sheâll go a long way.
9. GAYLE - Butterflies
youtube
Itâs fair to say that the abcdefu star has done little of note since her moment in the limelight but Butterflies is a surprise banger and might well be the best song on the already stacked Barbie soundtrack. Yes, it piggybacks on its pilfered Crazytown interpolation but GAYLEâs rapid fire vocal and fierce pop energy carry the day and make a good case for her working more often with this harder edged approach.
8. beabadoobee - The Way Things Go
youtube
Beaâs sweet-toothed multigenre world has crept up on me more as the year's gone on but sheâs never sounded better than she does on her most recent single. Her farewell to a dying relationship is given life by a delicately resigned vocal and set to an orchestral swirl so otherworldly that it entirely rubbishes her claim to be ânot far from the ordinaryâ. Thereâs even a bit of a Harriet Wheeler impression on the outro to get the indieheads all teary, proving that beabadoobee is truly a renaissance woman.
7. Tate McRae - Greedy
youtube
Always better when she ditches the sadgirl songs, Tateâs swipe at sleazy old men instead rides atop a wonderfully rolling rhythm and sports the kind of sticky hook that will still randomly pop up in yr head in 20 years time. This is played about once every half an hour on the radio at the moment and yet it's never made an unwelcome appearance, in fact itâs the song that Iâd rather hear there more than anything else.
6. Doja Cat - Fuck The Girls
youtube
While her hits cast a softer tone on what has become a totemic and obsessive personal crusade, Fuck the Girls was perhaps the most strident assault yet in Dojaâs ongoing war with her annoying online stans. While the battle itself is probably not that compelling, Dojaâs take on it is furious and funny enough to hold my interest and the rattling breaks and twitchy stand-up bass provide a hauntingly austere framework from which to launch her barbs. Truth be told, it just goes incredibly hard: what more can you ask for?
5. Charli XCX/Sam Smith - In The City
youtube
In The City feels like Charli moving away from the Crash era, focused anew on 90s club culture and with that hard edged bass synth powering everything along. But more than anything, itâs a glorious shot of light, full of yearning and surprising melodic beauty, and with a happy ending out on the dance floor that - surprisingly for Charli - does not involve a car. And Sam Smith is good! Not bad like you think! Shut up over there!
4. Poppy - The Attic
youtube
The Attic represents the cleanest example of Poppyâs pivot back to pop this year, for once ditching the goth adornments and going full on euphoric drum n bass. For someone whoâs music often creeps and lurches along, The Attic is a surprising blast of musical weightlessness, full of skittering rhythmic energy and flashing piano chords. The lyrics as ever tell a different (and far more uncomfortable) story but by once more casting aside the idea of what a Poppy song ought to be, sheâs made something new that blew me away completely.
3. Mitski - My Love Mine All Mine
youtube
The surprise hit of a major artistâs career has always been a tricky area to navigate: for every Walk On The Wild Side thereâs tended to be an equal and opposite My Dingaling. However, Mitski has managed to luck out here, with international success neatly falling into the lap of one of her very best singles. My Love Mine All Mine sounds like a sepia tinted 50s ballad, simple and elegant, with each flourish of piano or guitar cutting eerily through the songâs low-key veneer. And Mitski herself has never sounded better, the sombre warmth of her vocal seeming to express all the ambiguity that radiates from the heart of the song.
2. U.S. Girls - Tux
youtube
Sounding for all the world like a classic era disco 12â that Meg has just happened to find down the back of the sofa, Tux also profits from an extended lyrical metaphor thatâs so complicated and yet catchy that youâll be singing along to every word before youâve figured out what any of it means. Rare is the album cycle where U.S. Girls donât release a top tier single or two and Tux manages to continue that very long winning streak.Â
1. Olivia Rodrigo - Vampire
youtube
I canât honestly say that Olivia Rodrigoâs theatrical disco banger stands way above everything else here (do not let anyone tell you that 2023 has been a bad year for music) but Vampire still hits hard all these months on. Itâs a song thatâs full of breathtaking moments: from the doof doof of the bass drum at the end of the first chorus to the surging harmonies in the second; the full-on sound assault that hits halfway thru to the rousing final step into âthe way you sold me for partsâ at the end; each one feels like a gut punch and yet they just keep on coming. Despite having listened to it many many times since the middle of this year, it hasn't even started to get old yet and is still perfectly capable of stopping me in my tracks. Iâve already said plenty about Vampire before so I wonât drag this on for too long, but in a year that perhaps for the first time has been more pop than rock for me, It feels fitting to have a record sat atop of it that embodies the best parts of each without ever feeling strained or clumsy, from an artist who spent 2023 truly finding her voice.
And that's it! If anyone read these posts and/or found them at all interesting, thank you for your time and i hope you liked some of the songs! Below is a Spotify playlist of the whole 40 (Kweli/Madlib aside, which is Soundcloud only), followed by a few of the songs that i might have picked had i only given things a bit more thought. And i rounded it off with Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift, which though not really eligible for a best of 2023 round up, was so inextricably bound up with the year that it feels like it should have its place somewhere. Sayonara!

OOOH THOSE QUESTIONS SEEM REALLY NICE thanks for sending me this! i just found a cd that my dad used to play all the time and it got me thinking about certain songs so it's really fitting :]
not sure if i'm supposed to choose some or do all. so i'm just going to do all of them, hope that's alright
"Dam ci ptaszka" by Artur Andrus! we used to laugh at the lyrics which were pretty nonsensical, especially paired with choir-like style it's recorded in
"Fire Fire" by Steam Powered Giraffe :]
i don't listen to one specific genre, but if i were to introduce someone to, let's say, Will Wood, i'd choose "Hand Me My Shovel, I'm Going In"
"A Mannequin Adrift" by The Scary Jokes. it's really nice with all the symphonies going there and can fit with a lot of stories
"Co Ty Tutaj Robisz" by Elektryczne Gitary. it's been stuck in my head for a past week and i don't think most of you have a chance to hear it
"Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads. it's one of my dad's favourites
hmmm. there's a lot. but i still remember the words for "Addio Pomidory" that i learnt as a kid for a school performance once
"Under a Technicolor Sky" by Will Wood from the Camp Here & There soundtrack
"Gardenia" by Malice Mizer
relaxed... "Cottonwood" by The Forgetmenauts
ironically enough, "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" by Scissor Sisters
"Twisting" by They Might Be Giants
"Make Room!!!" by My Chemical Romance
"Against the Kitchen Floor" by Will Wood. i might not have been that well lately. but IT IS a banger
i just know a toddler would go bonkers after hearing "Fart Patrol"
"Friends With You" by The Scary Jokes. really makes the nostalgia kick in
"Lay All Your Love On Me" by Brian David Gilbert. the vampire aspect really adds a lot
oughhhh honestly no idea what you're supossed to play on such occasions... "Careless Whisper" by Richard Cheese.
there's a lot, but the one that affects me the most is probably "Euthanasia" by Will Wood
"bfourbbo" by bubbo. got that silly energy :]

Spoilers for Mutant Mayhem:
So, yesterday I watched TMNT Mutant Mayhem.
And yeah, it was good, it was fun. But I wouldn't say it's the best version of the TMNT or anything. The only reason why it's so popular and why the larger world is saying that 'the turtles are finally back' is because it's a theatrical movie and associated with Rogen. Also, that little tidbit kinda pisses me off, 'the turtles are finally back' wha- fu- where did they go? What the fuck are you talking about? Seth Rogan didn't revive a dead franchise or anything. TMNT has been thriving for years! The comics is excellent. The shows are phenomenal. Fuckin' we've been here! We didn't go anywhere. I imagine it's people who aren't turtle fans that are saying this. People who watched 87 as kids and then grew up and didn't stay with the franchise and saw it evolve through the years. Geewankers as we Transformers fans call them. And I think this movie is fun, it's good, but it's not God's gift to humanity or whatever. If I'd have to rank it it'd be directly in the middle of turtle media, far from the worse, far from the best.
So here's some positives:
It's gorgeous. It's beautiful. It takes the creativity of Spider-Verse and makes it it's own, with the graffiti, school desk doodles aesthetic. It's. GORGEOUS. The artistic story telling of this movie is amazing, having the humans be just as 'ugly' and isometrical and dirty and lumpy as the mutants, showcasing a sense of realness and the fact that they're just as monstrous as the mutants they fear. Not that it looks anything like that, but it reminds me of the art of Gary Frank, artist of Superman Secret Origin (highly recommend) who manages to capture the beauty in the imperfection and sometimes uglyness of humanity. All the while the turtles are portrayed as these claymation-esk cute little potatoes, and that makes you immediately endeared to them.
Some of my favourite effects have to be using scribbles as lens flares for car headlights, and for dust kicked up by car tyres. I also love the use of inbetween frames on the weapons when they're in motion, that is one of my favourite visual tropes in animation, chef's kiss, that's why the bo staff was always my favourite weapon from the 2003 series (which introduced me to the TMNT), it's always so satisfying to watch.
The pacing of this movie is fantastic. Not a boring scene in the movie.
The action is out of this world. I think we all know the scene I taking about. The 'No Diggity' scene is by far the best scene in the movie. Nothing for me can beat the Shredder fight from Rise, but this, this is second place no doubt.
All of the characters are likable and cute. I don't know if I have a stand out favourite in this film, I just like all of the boys equally. And that's another really awesome thing about this movie. It's not the Raph and Leo show, each turtle is given an equal amount of screen time. It helps that all the turtles have the same unified character arc so it all follows nicely, especially tied with April's own arc, which feeds into Splinter's arc. Nicely done.
Soundtrack is a banger.
Darker than I thought. But not too much. A nice balance. That opening scene is immaculate. The tone, Trent Rezenor's ost, the vibes are off the chart.
Now, the negatives (for me) :
None of the characters are really my favourite incarnations of the turtles. (In my opinion) It doesn't have the best Leo (2003) or the best Raph (2007) or the best Donnie (Rise) or Mikey (Rise) or April (Rise). Splinter is like the RiseSplinter but with way less going on, and way less interesting.
That romance is death. It didn't work with Donnie in 2012, it doesn't work her, it's weird and gross, and I don't want to think about it. At least it's not his step-sister.
The comedy isn't for everyone. There's so many pop-culture references it gets ridiculous. When they mentioned Mark Ruffalo I was so done with it. Also, literally every scene that the turtles are together in they will mumble over each other. Every. Scene. It was cute and fun the first two times, but it happens over and over again, drop it, get a new joke.
Splinter and the turtles have no connection to Hamato Yoshi or Oroku Saki, and they learn ninjitsu from Bruce Lee films... sure, whatever. I'm interested to see how the Shredder fits in in the sequel. By the way, great tease, it sounds like this Shredder is like a bounty hunter/mercanery, cool, sounds interesting, I'm in.
The puke girl... thing, is so Rogen it hurts. I'm not the biggest fan of his writing, I think he suffers from the dudebro disease that's been an epidemic at Hollywood for too long. But I was surprised to see that it was quite subdued in this film. 'Quite' not totally.
So, yeah, those are my thoughts on Mutant Mayhem organised in a semi-coherent 'review' If you could call it that, I suppose. So... Bye.

10 films I love
tagged by sweet @zurdoabsurdo I'm so sorry for being so late :')
I gave it a lot of thought and in the end only the first few are big big favourites, the others are just films I've seen recently or remember enjoying otherwise I'll be thinking about this forever.
Parasite (2019). I only saw this somewhere last year but from that point on I've already had multiple friends watch it with me, it's so fun and every time I watch it I swear I notice new things. I love the plot and the way it balances it's more serious tones with the comedic ones. Big big big love for Parasite.
Snatch (2000). This and Parasite honestly share a number 1 spot together, this has been my favourite film since I was 15 or so I think. It's just so stupidly fun, there's not a single second I've been bored while watching it. It's my ultimate comfort film. Just as with Parasite, it manages to be funny but still has a few more serious moments. Soundtrack has Angel by Massive Attack so that's a good bonus too.
Hot Fuzz (2009). Another big comfort film! Though I pretty much enjoy anything that Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and/or Edgar Wright are involved in. I love the dumb humor and the town it takes place in reminds me of my own sometimes, which makes the experience so much better.
Shaun of the Dead (2004). The only reason this one is below Hot Fuzz is because of the latter's town residents. Also I just enjoy police/crime/cult stories more than apocalypse ones. World's end isn't on here because I still have not completed watching the Cornetto Trilogy.
Donnie Darko (2001). Love me a film where literally everyone (at least kind of) sucks. Gotta be one of my favourite genres. So many theories as to what the film's various scenes and ending mean and represent. Anyway, 28 days left!
Fargo (1996). Again, love me some crime in my entertainment. So strangely endearing at times for a film that's described as a thriller though, the police woman and her artist husband have completely stolen my heart when I watched it.
Midsommar (2019). Very very pretty and visually interesting film, I love all the art on the walls and the little runes embroidered in the dresses. I'm a person that's easily swayed by pretty visuals and even more so if that includes flowers/florals. So I really enjoy the costumes and aesthetic, go figure.
Call Me By Your Name (2017). Most interesting to me is the fact that it's about a temporary love, I don't feel I've seen that often without the film ending in the couple getting together at the end despite all odds or something. And to me the 'temporary' relationships/situationships/whatever you want to label or name it, are just as valuable and worth telling stories about. So I'm glad I could find that in this film, plus the pretty scenery that remind me of going on vacations as a kid.
Pulp Fiction (1994). Yeah yeah my taste is boring I know, I just like my crime drama's. Also, I want to kiss Mia Wallace.
Django Unchained (2012). Banger soundtrack with the exception of one song that felt very out of place. Again a serious film with a funny side. Western costumes drive me absolutely wild.
Anyway, tagging @nachitoesmuybonito , @jasonsnowwhitebrody , @kettleghost , @bluewaterlily , and I don't know anyone else right now that I haven't seen tagged already. Sorry in advance if it turns out you did already get tagged before :') As per usual, don't feel pressured to participate.

Silly question!
What are your five favourite videogames (in no particular order)?
Oh, oh! Reading this made me very happy. I get unreasonably excited about these things. (I may list more than five. Favourites are so hard to pick!)
First one that comes to mind is Omori, which I played in late 2021, about a year after it came out. I still have a deep scar in my psyche where that one went in.
... There are a lot of reasons why. The cast are pretty damn relatable (particularly Bagel and Sunny, on a few fronts) the story is a good one, well toldâ and the ending brought me (an apathetic godsdamn robot) about as close to tears as I can remember in the past few years. It's not a perfect game, but it's one that'll live with me for a long time.
Highly recommend if you have a lot of time to kill (and a lot of patience for filler, because the headspace segments are... well...)
Second, I think, is Celeste, which I played earlier? 2020? 2019?. At first, I picked up this game because "hey, this looks like a cool and challenging platforming game, and I want to try something different!"
All that suffering (Maddy Thorson is a sadist) made the story hit a lot harder. Celeste is... well, I won't gush about it too much, since I don't have much of substance to say, but every freaking part of it resonated with me. Shall we say. Just... just a little bit.
Ultrakill (I first played this in January, I think) also stands tall in my little brain. Now, this one is less about story and more about gameplay, but I honestly still love the game's narrative. It's... a pretty existential game, under all the coins, monsters and style tricks.
Also, the main antagonist is voiced by Gianni Matragrano, which pretty much seals the deal here.
Now I know the game isn't finished, and I'll be really happy to see where the rest of the game's development takes it, but as it stands, it's almost certainly already my favourite FPS. Like, ever. Not that I'm a connoisseur or anything, but what else has: the ability to punch your bullets, an nihilistic dating sim level, a stage dedicated entirely to fishing, and a secret Crash Bandicoot game mode?
Next up, and this comes out of nowhere compared to the first three: LittleBigPlanet 2, a PS3 puzzle-platformer that I remember very fondly. I thought I had to include a game from my (earlier) childhood, and it was either this or Minecraft.
I don't have too much to say about LBP 2, but my younger selves invested quite a lot of time into it, and looking back now, it has a lot of charm. I replayed it once recently, and... Well, still a really good game. Banger soundtrack, too, like all of the above.
I'm torn on what to include for number five, so I'll just go through both of my choices.
Terraria is definitely up here. I have sunk hours upon hours upon hours (about 1.5K total on my Steam install) into this game with a friend, and while it may not be perfect, it's a game that I've come to know and love a lot. It's one of those multiplayer games that always has something to do, but also always works as a backdrop to a conversation. Replayability 10/10 if you have friends.
Lastly, Hollow Knight. Like Celeste and Omori, this was an absolutely magical experience the first time aroundâ the world is so vast and pretty, and its goofy art and charm is paired with a really memorable and melancholic setting. Also, I love bugs. Arthropods are awesome. I can't wait for Silksong to release in 1,000,000 years...
I'm sure there's some absolute classic I've forgotten about, but these are the first things that came to mind. I will also say that once it's finished, I wager Deltarune might well supplant one of these.
Long response, hah. Guess I can't stop myself.
thank you for asking lmao <3
P.S. I forgor, but the Binding of Isaac deserves an honourable mention here. I knew that game like the back of my arm... for a while, anyway.
P.P.S. Oh, and as for Deep Rock Galactic? Ask me again when I hit a thousand hours.

Ooh nice to see a fellow Kamen Rider type of person
Personally, out of the three main tokusatsu, I think I watched Kamen Rider more than anything. I did watch all 3 equally at first but my interest went from Ultraman and Super Sentai (from when I was little) to more of Kamen Rider as I grew older.
I haven't watched much from Reiwa since I stopped watching Tokusatsu maybe 3 years ago. But growing up, my parents were into tokusatsu, so I was naturally shown a lot of it, lmaoo. I kinda stopped being open about it after some kid in third grade made fun of me for it đ
After that, I became self-conscious about it as I grew up, so I told myself I had to stop watching it. My parents still watch it though, and they tell me it's good, but I don't have the courage to start watching again đ Lately I wish I didn't do that cause now I feel like I'm missing out on the fun lmao- it was really fun to watch because they tend to have a deeper/darker meaning to them, even if it seems to be for younger audiences at first glance, which I find neat.
I don't really remember much from W, since I watched it way back when I was younger, but I remember the acting was great (I think the actor for Philip was only 15 at that time? I've seen that guy in other J-dramas and his acting is amazing). I remember liking W but I just don't really remember what it was about. Maybe I should revisit it sometime.
I think my favorite was Den-O. I'm pretty sure I've watched all of the heisei ones but I can't recall all of the good ones that I liked. I do remember liking the 3 last Heisei ones which I believe were Ghost, Exaid, and Build, but out of those 3, I think Ghost was the best.
ALSO YOU ARE SO RIGHT the kamen rider soundtracks tend to be bangers
Oops I kinda talked too much about myself LMAOA (I tried to shorten this the best I could. i really did. I DELETED 3 PARAGRAPHS LMAO)
No way you used to be a fan AS WELL. Now I feel a bit embarrassed for recommending stuff. Also Den-o is top tier. Deneb is probably one of my favourite kamen rider characters just for how funny he is.
To be fair I was more of a Power Rangers kid growing up. I started off watching mega force when it was still airing and religiously watched the reruns of older stuff like Dino Thunder, which was my favourite.
I stopped watching after a bit because man are kids RUTHLESS. Some of them made fun of me so I stopped watching for a bit. Luckily I have younger siblings who were watching the show up on it so I became a casual viewer, mostly watching for my siblings and then lying at school the next day.
The reason I got into Toku was actually because of a YouTuber that I was subscribed to. I had 0 clue what kamen rider was and they were praising fourze so I thought âIâve seen jojo part 4, this is practically that with superheroesâ and then proceeded to watch the series. I then moved onto the other series like ooo, build,gaim,W,Den-o,ex-aid and blade.
Funny story about my watch through of blade is that I had no context for where most of the memes in the fanbase came from so I watched Blade to mainly understand everything. I had gotten up to the final arc but had to take a break since mock season was going on. When I finished I remember that I rushed home and decided to watch the last arc, despite being very tired. Yeah big mistake. Who knew a bench could make Astral cry but it did
Iâm wondering right now what series to watch now. The smartest decision is to probably catch up to the latest season but Iâm probably going to wait until it finishes to binge it. Iâm torn on watching a late heisei era show or trying to see more early heisei works. Iâll do what I do best which is spin a wheel and decide what to watch lol.
Nooo man you donât need to shorten down your thoughts. Itâs fun reading this stuff and believe me Iâve been holding back from spamming the dashboard with my random Toku thoughts so you shouldnât worry about if youâre saying too much. If you want to get back into it the newest season of kamen rider is around the corner so you could start getting back into it from there.
#astra writes#i am no way shape or form intelligent about this topic#but it did give me severe brainrot during 2021#luckily TR was able to get me to speak about something different#ask has been answered#ren đĄïž

Which Video Game(s) for You are So Good that You Know if Someone Ever Tells You "Video Games are Only for Losers" You'll Bring up Those Specific Game(s) to Utterly DESTROY any Argument They Have.
Which Video Game(s) for You are So Good that You Know if Someone Ever Tells You "Video Games are Only for Losers," You'll Bring up Those Specific Game(s) to Utterly DESTROY any Argument They Have. So I feel like this is an interesting question to ask because I've always imagined a hypothetical scenario where someone comes up to me and straight up tells me "oh stop playing video games man, you know they're only for losers, right?" or even "you're a bum, stop wasting your time." This makes me just think to these certain video games that I know are so good that I'll never regret playing them. I honestly don't care what arguments these people who demonize video games have because in the back of my head, I've know that I've played games that are to me, works of art. And so, in a situation like this, I can just see myself bringing up a particular game and just destroying this hypothetical person and any argument they have.Even sometimes I see the media paint video games poorly, but how can one possibly do so? Like there's been so many stories of positive games that have changed people's lives--that have got them through tough times or even inspired them. For example, I can't remeber what exact game it was, but I remeber this persons saying the game had such a good soundtrack, it inspired them to create songs as a passion. How can someone call this person a loser for playing games, that's such a down-to-Earth story. For me, that particular game is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This game truly is a masterpiece IMO. Everything about it is so good. For those that don't know, you start off as this guy, who kills monsters for a living, and he is looking for his daughter. However, there is so much to that, haha. First of all, instead of looking for your daughter, you can become addicted to Gwent and collect every card in the game, spending hundreds of hours becoming the best Gwent player ever, lol.But jokes aside, this game has an incredible story with some of the best and most unique side quests ever. My personal favourite being the Bloody Baron side quest, where so many different things can happen depending on your choices, but each of them leading to the same outcome--a tragic ending that is clearly unavoidable in the dark world of the Witcher 3.You get to build relationships with excellently written characters that each have compelling stories of their own. There are good characters, but there are also evil characters, and as the protagonist, you get to learn of their past and so you start to feel for some of the evil characters, now that you know who they are and what they've been through Perhaps, you decide not to kill them now. Because of this, you feel like you are part of something bigger because your choices matter. Then there's the amazing visuals that this game has to offer. You can simply spend tons of hours just riding with your horse, Roach, exploring all that you see. You can go atop a mountain and start swinging your sword for hours like a true Witcher would do on their spare time. Then there's the incredible soundtrack that is so good I listen to it even when I'm not playing the game. You'll be riding down Kaer Morhen with Roach and the banger of a song called "Kaer Morhen" starts playing. Or, you'll be sipping wine in Corvo Bianco with B.B. and another banger starts playing. For me, this game transcends being just a video game. It's a work of art that really impacts you, as the player. So ya, if anyone ever tells me that I'm a loser for playing video games, I've already got the situation played out. Imma straight up call them uncultured and tell them to play the Witcher 3 before speaking. Lmao.Anyways, what is this game for you? For me, it's my favourite video game of all-time, and I'm guessing it might be for many others as well.I'd love to hear everyone's choices and what exactly they would tell this hypothetical idiot--who we all know simply lacks an understanding of the masterpieces that the gaming medium has to offer. Do you have a favourite case from the series in terms of best music?
Thank you for posting all the dgs soundtracks, I'm enjoying listening to them for the first time in a while :)
Hello! đž
Been thinking this one over ever since I got the ask. That's a tough question!!
I've really been divided between TGAA2-5 or oddly enough AA5-5? (TGAA SPOILERS) TGAA's wins overall because of the remixes they have done to previously existing songs (thinking more specifically the lobby/courtroom ones funnily enough). I love when games do the whole "It's for all the marbles, now". It has enough changes to the core music that doesn't over power it or change it into an entirely different track, but it still gives the songs an "oomph" factor they absolutely needed.
Yujin's reminiscence song was gorgeous (those violins paired with the xylophone are BEAUTIFUL, was always happy whenever they used that track for background reminiscing, glad they brought it back for the last case) + Words of Parting and Our Separate Paths making me feel like I'm in a Ghibli movie, The Game is Afoot is a great theme, perhaps one of the best songs of the whole TGAA (And I mean, come on, who can beat tap dancing) + Drums. Drums. Graah. Don't even remember if this one plays during case 5 or not. Just drums. Great Objection, great Prosecutor theme, Van Zieks involved in the case which means bangers, just a really, REALLY solid line up of songs in one package.
As for my runner up pick... The Dual Destinies mention is weird, I know. Putting what I feel about the story itself aside, since that's not what the question is about, I think that its OST has some of the weakest and strongest tracks of the whole main AA line. The highs are very high, but boy are the lows very low. However! I feel like we get to hear a lot of heavy hitters in their final case, or at least their positioning in the case is good, it elevates the scene that they're playing on.
All of the songs that I really really like end up being the ones that build up their final 30 seconds in a grandiose manner- Within the time frame where The Dark Age of Law is played, it's great at setting the mood, where in, example, case 3, it ends up feeling short sighted, overblown. PHANTOM is GREAT for what it's setting up to do, genuinely such a good example of telling a character's story through a track (I so wish they kept that electric guitar going for longer, it was so nice to hear a rare instrument in between the ost). It's not even that incredible of a song by itself, I would NOT listen to it on it's own for fun often- It's just that it does what it's there to do VERY well.
Case also has an Amazing pursuit variation, a treat to hear all of the objection themes of the characters (Genuinely think Athena has one of the best themes in the entire series, pronto) I think the mood matrix is awesome, and shout out Core 2013 even though you aren't part of 5-5. I'm a fan.
Shout out to 4-3, 5-2, AAI2-4 as well
#Anonymous#Asks#Band Notes:#People would NOT like my hypothetical Objection tierlist >m<#Dual Destinies probably has other cases that feature better songs however#This one does have the 3 whole objection themes and I think I would be doing a cardinal sin not to mention it#Thank you for the ask!#I love the dgs tracks they are a joy to hear

THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987) - dir. rob reiner
i only saw this like a month ago and i have to admit that i've been missing out IT'S SO FUNNY?????? it's fucking ridiculous "there's a shortage of perfectly beautiful breasts in this world it would be a pity to damage your"??????????????? ten out of ten for that already + the link is a clip from the film and not a trailer
·:* RATING: ACTION, BLOOD, VIOLENCE AND JOKES
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (2009) - dir. quentin tarantino
very rewatchable, i know every single line in it i think...... rather violent so beware but then again it's quentin tarantino
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD (2015) - dir. george miller
an important fun fact! the director of this film asked his wife to edit the action sequences (she had no experience editing action films) and the reasoning behind it was "because if a guy did it, it would look like every other action movie." (it won an academy award for 'best editing' btw)
ATOMIC BLONDE (2017) - dir. david leitch
i think it's great how the mc fights with using her surroundings, and it's gritty - she gets hit and hit hard but she can't stop she has a job to do. great action scenes, no unnecessary cutting and they show everything + charlize theron did most of her stunts. and as always the soundtrack is so sexy, oh and btw it's gay!!!!
THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. (2015) - dir. guy ritchie
now, i do realize armie the cannibal is here but i might be biased bc i looooove the soundtrack and the director and the humor of it and the action of it and the tropes in it and okay i'm just gonna say that i love this movie ok
BODIES, BODIES, BODIES (2022) - dir. halina reijn
another really fucking funny one, it's very meta but it's not annoying
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT (2018) - dir. christopher mcquarrie
when i say i like action movies i mean it!!!!! this has the cleanest fights in every possible term - they're shot clearly, you can see all of their moves and the fight choreographies are good, they flow very well + it's always good to see the mc's take hits and ethan gets his shit rocked a nice couple of times!! another plus is to know that the actors are dedicated to their films and they take the extra step to do as many of their stunts as possible, it's so cool!!!!
DON'T BREATHE (2016) - dir. fede alvarez
actually made me feel like i had to hold my breath with the characters on screen. definitely scared me and that's a good thing!!!!
JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 (2023) - dir. chad stalhelski
this is rated 5+ by my friend who does not watch action. like at all. and she fucking loved it. we (and the whole room) were literally laughing and gasping during the whole thing it's so entertaining. the action is mmmmmmmmmm giving me a boner honestly. this is what u get when the director himself is a stuntman and your lead is doing the majority of his stunts. they're so invested and it fucking shows
DJANGO UNCHAINED (2012) - dir. quentin tarantino
blood. very blood. very red. u have been warned. tarantino's dialogue is so mwah he's on some next level shit. i know everybody is always talking about christoph waltz in this but JAMIE FOXX IN THIS????? THE FAVOURITE (2019) - dir. yorgos lanthimos
oh yeah gay as hell everybody go watch it. saw in the cinema four times in a month. it's fucking great. + here is olivia colman's best actress speech bc it's great
ARRIVAL (2016) - dir. denis villeneuve
insane. hypnotic. braingasm. the sound design people were on something bc holy shit i just came?? anyway i've heard people say that they didn't understand it the first time but you know what - it's totally fine if you don't understand it the first time or even the second time or however many times u watch it u can watch it for the soundtrack and the visuals alone hehehe
THE WITCH (2015) - dir. robert eggers
very intense performances, overall very eerie and spooky.
DUNE (2021) - dir. denis villeneuve
godly sound design. like it's fucking crazy. rather slow paced but you will love it nonetheless. there's a lot of lore but it's interesting and it's not as hard (or too much) like i thought it'd be. plus there's an almost fully naked oscar isaac
ANATOMY OF A FALL (2023) - dir. justine triet
oscar worthy performances from everyone. unrequited love trope (i will love this tiny lawyer man myself sandra move aside)
DECISION TO LEAVE (2022) - dir. park whan-wook
very very unique. especially the how it was shot. came out of the cinema and thought about for the rest of the day, couldn't get it out of my head. i also loveddd the characters, the dynamic was so cool.
GOOD TIME (2017) - dir. safdie brothers
who doesn't love having a panic attack? this is what you'll get when u watch this :D it's good though i promise i promise
·:* RATING: FILMBRO 101
BLADE RUNNER 2049 (2017) - dir. denis villeneuve
what did i say about the loser main character? here's another one!! the visuals and the score is insane and not to mention the performances (especially sylvia hoeks who plays luv!!!!! she's terrifying in the best way)
SE7EN (1995) - dir. david fincher
tw: gory. if ur sensitive it might not be a good watch for u. the plot is so cool i'm so sad i couldn't see this in the cinema yk considering i wasn't even born yet smhh i would've loved to have the full experience of the climax.
THE DARK KNIGHT (2008) - dir. christopher nolan
very entertaining!! heath ledger is just... wow. and i know that has been said i'm not original but well it's just the truth. the way he plays the joker mmmmmmmmm scratches my brain fr. i like the part where he does the "disappearing pen" magic trick
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (2013) - dir. martin scorsese
WHOOOOOWEEE BOYS!! coke and naked women and coke and money and some more money. it's great. after every watch i am CONVINCED that i also need to be doing that. every single time.
FIGHT CLUB (1999) - dir. david fincher
THE NARRATOR NATION RISE UP!!!!! WE ARE ALIVE AND WELL!!! MY BELOVED IKEA BOY!!!!
NIGHTCRAWLER (2014) - dir. dan gilroy
very thrilling! he's not a good guy why are u still watching? ok it's probably just jake gyllenhaal being a very good actor.... the mc is so fucking weird it's almost hypnotizing. also! this isn't a trailer just bc i didn't like the trailer so i put a link of one of the first scenes from the movie i think it gets its point across really fucking well
·:* RATING: SILLY LITTLE MOVIES (VERY EXTREME)
SALTBURN (2023) - dir. emerald fennell
this one is most defintely not for everyone but it's for me ok! very erotic and peculiar and i hadn't been this mesmerized in a minute i was leaning more and more toward my computer screen just because i needed to be in it
MOTHER! (2017) - dir. darren aronofsky
actually this is also one of those, hmm, weird ones, let's just say that. it's very very intense so a big trigger warning for that but there's nothing alike this movie. very one of a kind and you can decide for yourself whether that's a good or a bad thing.
THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER (2016) - dir. yorgos lanthimos
my very first yorgos lanthimos film and i was hooked from the very second the trailer started playing in the cinema, immediately knew it was gonna be a freakshow and i was not disappointed!! very wtf but so good
HEREDITARY (2018) - dir. ari aster
scary. idk what else to tell u. scary in a sense that you'll feel sick in your stomach. sound design goes crazy along with the soundtrack. amaaaazing performances from everyone toni collette the very first mother of all
REVENGE (2017) - dir. coralie fargeat
VERY GNARLY i think that's a good word for it (a tw for rape here bc that was a very hard watch) and later it's very bloody but i fucking loooved the ending the final chase around the house it felt very comical???? funny even though it's really not the moment for giggles
DIRECTORS
wasn't gonna put them here but i fucking will sue me
GUY RITCHIE - snatch, the man from u.n.c.l.e.; THE MOST LIKE ME ok it's the fast pacing, it's the quips it's the music it's the action it's the car chases it's the characters it's the dialogue it's the humor i think i'm repeating myself but i do genuinely think that his films have had such an impact on me and how i imagine things in my head lmao
DENIS VILLENEUVE - blade runner 2049, arrival, prisoners; rather slow paced but intense, it's all about the visuals, the soundtracks always slap
DAVID FINCHER - se7en, zodiac, gone girl; very dark and intense, also rather slow-paced
QUENTIN TARANTINO - inglourious basterds, pulp fiction, django unchained; now i realize that i'm coming off a real filmbro but it is what it is i love these movies with my heart they're very much my style my taste - blood and violence and good jokes
YORGOS LANTHIMOS - the favourite, the killing of a sacred deer, the lobster; literally so weird i fell in love with his work from the first time i saw the killing of a sacred deer (and i'm so excited for his newest one!!!)
SERIES
MINDHUNTER (2017-2019)
oh my god, especially the first season!!!! i think i like it so much bc i love holden i don't think i've seen a character who i resonate with so much in a minute. he's so naive and so curious oh man i love this guy. and bill!!!!!!!!!! i know these people are based on the book (which i loved too btw!) and real life and well i hope these people are having a great time ok. i love holden's and bill's dynamic, how bill kind of lets him do his thing but is still lecturing him about it. while being very caring i love how soft-spoken he is most of the time??? and ahh the way it's shot wait wait also need to mention the whole ed kemper and holden dynamic too (this is also where i feel like me and holden are the same fucking person bc i would too believe everything that man says lmao)(i would too think that we're somewhat buddies) AND THE SOUNDTRACK GODDD THE SOUNDTRACK full of bangers anyway i really really love this show and i hope mr fincher will get his shit together and make the third season too
JUJUTSU KAISEN (2020-)
the animation IS INSANE, like i mentioned before i have a habit of leaning closer and closer to the screen when something is getting exciting and well if i wasn't wearing glasses before i would have to get them now bc i was almost inside the fucking screen ok, not for a second was i able to tear my eyes because so much was happening (in a good way)
TASKMASTER (2015- )
literally the funniest show i almost peed my pants (although i've been wondering how different is european humor - will people from everywhere else also find it hilarious idk you let me know)
my favourite seasons are 4 and 5 and 7!!
SUCCESSION (2018-2023)
sooo funny. so stupid. it's so fucking straightforward it catches you off guard all the time. the shit that comes out of their mouths? hilarious. they're all a bunch of losers and i love them for it. and i love tom.
MANIAC (2018)
life-changing honestly, the idea of it is so cool i was completely obsessed with it when i first saw it (and then i immediately watched it again)
LOVE, DEATH & ROBOTS (2019-)
the first episode i saw was 'sonnie's edge' and let me tell you, i've never been more enthralled!! it's the animation it's the blood it's the gore oh my god it's the horror of it!
season 1 - three robots, the witness, sucker of souls, beyond the aquila rift, helping hand, the secret war
season 2 - pop squad (hehe on a side note one of the greatest voice actors, nolan north, is in this), the tall grass, the drowned giant
season 3 - bad travellling (directed by david fincher btw)
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: HOTEL (2015)
this season specifically because - lady gaga, lady gaga as a vampire, lady gaga covered in blood, lady gaga in a suit, lady gaga with bleached eyebrows, angela bassett, angela bassett's arms, angela bassett's outfits, angela bassett and lady gaga kissing. enough said.
BLUE EYE SAMURAI (2023)
the animation!!!!!! i love when animation has fighting in it and this was just great. very good action scenes, very bloody and very brutal. PLUS such an amazing main character????? not your typical badass, oh no she definitely got her fucking ass beat all the time but she just kept going. actually shoutout to all of the side characters too they were all so good i loved them + my favourite episode of the season was ep4

Iâm not gonna wait for other people to ask, Iâm just gonna answer them all!!
1. Whatâs the first audio drama you ever listened to?
Welcome to Night Vale, the original, the blueprint
2. Whatâs a song you associate really strongly with a specific show?
Excluding songs played ON THE SHOW, I associate âThis weekâ by Barenaked ladies with the adventure zone because they mentioned it in a small rant once
3. State some things youâd like to hear in the next show you listen to and let your follower recommend things to you.
God I just want some like... interesting narrative going on! Give me galaxy brain concepts, give me play with narrator or formats for narration that plays into the themes! Give me something that plays with the medium! And PLEASE rec me stuff!!!
4. Whatâs your favourite completed show?
I mean I have to say Wolf 359. I have rarely enjoyed such a satisfying story in any medium at all. But also shoutouts to ARS paradoxica, Bright Sessions and In Strange Woods!
5. Name a trope you like thatâs specific to audio drama.
I love it when the omnipotent neutral narrator turns out to not at all be neutral or omnipotent but actually really personally invested in the ongoings. Also love the âperson was quiet for five minute so we forgot they were there and now they speak up, to remind us that they just thirdwheeled some emotional dialogue between the two characters we were listening toâ
6. Whatâs your favourite audio drama ship?
Ooh, hard one.... Leon/Michael in Greater Boston (not at all canon but I personally ship them), Cecil/Carlos (perfect husbands thank you), Oliver/Mark in The College Tapes, Percy/Diggory in Hello from the Hallowood, yeah honestly every couple in hello from the hellowoods, they are really good at appealing ships over there I always TRY to be neutral to them but NO, Blupjeans in TAZ, Postminger/The Gap/Ainsley weird platonic(?) polycule from Hrose camp by Legend Lark, Harvey/Lancaster from Find us Alive
7. Whatâs your favourite piece of music from any show?
Oh Friends at the table take the price for sure, the Marielda theme gives me a GUT REACTION I cant describe, and I Have Seen The Stars is so contemplative and melancholic, all of Bluff city soundtrack are BANGERS. But Marielda is top for sure. Itâs the clarinet. Listen to Jack deQuit
8. If you could have a crossover between any two shows which would it be?
Oooh I think Iâll have to be basic and say Magnus Archives (like season 2) and Welcome to Nightvale. I just love the idea of Jon in distress trying to take the statement of Cecil who is 1. so casual about The Horrors and 2. goes on long tangents about his husband
Iâd also love a Bluff City arc with McElroys. Maybe playing Fiasco!
9. Whatâs your favourite character dynamic to write/listen to?
Hmm. Itâs hard to nail down, but I love when a show manages to properly make a group feel like FRIENDS, like they have a repetoir and inside jokes and razz and support each other! Iâm thinking of Emma, Jackie and Stu in Deck The Halls with Matrimony, or the trio in Time Bombs, or Sam and Ben in King Falls further in!
10. Recommend a show!
Oh man... right now Iâm very into Hello from the Hallowoods, Find us Alive, Friends at the Table, Greater Boston and Deck the Halls with Matrimony.
11. What are you currently listening to?
I just finished Borrasca, and Iâm relsitening/catching up to Greater Boston, and I think my work-pod will be Who Killed Alaska (which I tried to start but dropped because the main voice was not my jam, but im gonna try again)
12. If you could adapt any public domain work into an audio drama what would it be?
I think audiodrama would give us the gay and weird Sherlock and Watson we deserve.
13. [ASKER CHOOSES PODCAST] TV show fan cast (funny or serious).
I donât know enough real life actors to fancast :,) But I think the guy who plays Saul should play Ron from Dungeons and Daddies. That or Rowan Atkinson.
14. Â Which audio drama world would you most want to live in?
Oh I mean Bright Sessions probably... having superpowers and going to therapy, yes please. OR Hello from the Hallowoods, as horrible as it seems I just think itâs the type of apocalypse that could suit me
15. Uno reverse! Whatâs a question YOU want to ask everyone else about audio drama?
Oooh I want to know everyoneâs pet peeve in audio drama >:)
16. Whatâs a role you heard an actor you know in, but almost didnât recognise them?
I have heard Cecil in Dreamboy, and I did not catch that AT ALL, even though it was a Nightvale production!! I should have been primed for overlapping casting, and he just made a silly voice, but it was enough to fool me!
17. Top five [ASKED CHOOSES TOPIC] in audio drama?
Iâm gonna say... top five action scenes! Itâs SO HARD to make it both fast paced, clear and exciting in audio only!
1. Arms outstretched scene in TAZ
2. Turkey chase in Deck the Halls
3. Train heist going wrong in Marielda
4. Zebra chase scene in Dreamboy
5. King Falls AM, when Ben is saving Emily from the UFO
18. Design an outfit for [ASKER CHOOSES CHARACTER]
I have no clue what he looks like, but I think the Cryptonaturalist would appreciate an outfit I own, which is a red amanita sweater, a read amanita baseball cap, red booty shorts and huge green rain boots.
19. Which podcast do you think would make a great TTRPG book?
Again, Hello from the Hallowood... the classes and world would be so fun... and less dnd more powered by the apocalypse like?
20. Which podcast character do you think would have their own podcast in an AU?
I mean, lots of them kind of already do have their own podcast/radio show... I do think Wes and Rudy from Unwell would make a podcast! Rudy to talk about science and Wes maybe to play music?
21. Favourite audio drama sphere meme?
I dont know if itâs a meme but that the joke that streaming services canât adapt audio dramas because they would have to de-queer them and then it would be NOTHING LEFT
22. Which episode of any audio drama do you think youâve listened to most?
Oh itâs the first episode of Deck the Halls with Matrimony for sure, and the Scare BnB episode! Its just so nice to have so well produced, one episode stories!
23. Why do you like audio drama as a medium?
I like that I can listen while I draw, but I also like how accesible it is! I have listened to productions made by one or two people! I have listened to productions made by high schoolers! Itâs exciting to hear a variety of voices and stories!
24. What show are you most looking forward to that isnât out yet?
Right now Iâm looking forward to Brimstone Valley mall season 2! Otherwise, Iâm not really up to date on whats up and coming....

T.v./Dramas Consumed '22
Part 2
Succession
I believe I watched season 1 and season 2 this year or late last year. Either way, what a crazy show. I cannot believe that some of the gifs I've seen on this site were from ACTUAL scenes in the show - I thought they were shitposts. Especially the insane emails Tom sent Greg... god still can't believe that was real. My favourite part so far was when Connor Roy gave the speech at Mo's funeral. Truly nothing made me laugh so hard watching this show. It is interesting to note how the tone of the show changed from hardcore drama to comedy as the show went from season 1 to 2. Also how dare Kendall be like that - I can't believe how much I either pity/love or cringe/hate that man.
Our Beloved Summer
I love how realistic this show felt, how the flaws of each character was shown and the character growth that they go through in this show. The acting was stellar, the soundtrack was good and I enjoyed the pacing of the story. I enjoyed seeing the main characters clean up their messy relationship and make amends with the past in order to move on. Their relationship was truly the driving force of the show and because they both were so fleshed out as characters it held my interest and I was invested in them reconciling. I definitely enjoy this genre of slice-of-life/romance and felt this show did it quite well. I am surprised I enjoyed it so much as I've never been into the second-chance romance trope.
Archive 81
I did not know that this was based on the podcast, but the trailer looked interesting so I checked it out. While the premise was initially very intriguing and I really enjoyed the visual effects, the story left a lot to be desired. It definitely devolved into madness that made no sense very quickly. I don't want to think about it any longer...
Sasaki to Miyano
Loved the manga and look forward to an epi each week. I am enjoying the manga, but the same scenes don't hit the same as they did in the manga imo. I'll see if it is more impactful as a binge later on.
Update: Finished the anime and I'm glad there is more in production! I think the anime felt a bit slower than the manga, but last 4 or so episodes really hit the emotions for me. I feel like it got better as it went on!
Re-watch: The Disasterous Life of Saiki K. Still love it.
Given
I just binged the whole show and man, this show really got the budget to do the story justice! The songs were all such bangers!! I don't know how anyone could wait every week for one episode. I wonder if there will ever be a second season, if so, I'll look forward to it!
Tokyo Revengers
I binged this show and while it was addicting, it was also somehow very unbelievable and disappointing to me. I was excited for a time travel shounen but this show was not as dark or captivating in the subject matter as erased nor as heartwarming as naruto. It was a fun watch with a few interesting characters, but I ended up hating the main character by the end of the anime. This show will probably fade in my memory... The ending on a cliffhanger was a stroke of genius to encourage people to read the manga though.
Re-watch: Gokusen (2005) - Absolutely holds up! What a show! It's so campy and fun while about moving forwards despite hardships. A great pick me up show. Can't believe how much Oguri Shun has changed since back in the day.
Tokyo Ghoul
Wow did they change the sequence of the story so much in the anime vs the manga. Stopped at epi 10 to get caught up with the manga before finishing the show off.
Update: Finished s1 and watched two episodes from s2. They really changed a lot from the manga, but imo the manga was way more impactful. Though, I do like the foreshadowing in the anime. I got so pissed with the decision in season 2 to just make Kaneki say 'I'm going to join Aogiri Tree' as if its not what he is fighting against until volume 10 of the manga...
Juvenile Justice
This show showcased such interesting cases involving children who commit crimes and wrote the main character to be the most unlikeable and difficult to sympathize with character ever. Her decisions especially in the last 2 episodes pissed me off and I couldn't even focus on the cases anymore. Her character was so stupid and absurd that I felt absolutely no sympathy when she suffered and was stabbed for overstepping her jurisdiction. An interesting concept but terribly written main character who was constantly positioned as morally superior (even though she was extremely prejudiced) that ruined any possibility of a decent execution. Of all cases you want the audience to sympathize with, you really put in the gang rape case at the end and try to defend those kids? Fuck off.
One Punch Man season 2
Just started it and am enjoying it! I found it hilarious when Saitama ran into Garou and Garou picked a fight against him and he just KO'd him and continued shopping.
Update: I finished it and while I enjoyed most of the Garou related story arcs, this season as a whole was not as enjoyable as s1 for me.
Kotaru wa Hitoragashi
TW: abuse (child, domestic, dating), child neglect
I watched both the jdrama and the anime and man its sooo sad but soo adorable. It has a great balance of just heart wrenching and adorable and heartwarming. Absolutely love both adaptations, I enjoy the 'new' scenes of the anime as well as the wholesome interactions from the drama. It made me cry a lot, but I loved it! Only watch it if you can stomach difficult topics.
A Business Proposal
I absolutely love this trope-y drama that uses every rom-com cliché in the book but does it effectively. I love the characterizations of the main cast and everyone's chemistry. This show is unabashedly FUN and I can't wait for more! I hope they maintain their tone and continue to emphasize the lighter more comedic aspect as it continues.
Update: Although I did feel the momentum slowly come to a stop when the characters got together, it was an enjoyable watch nonetheless!
Anne with an E
Rewatched/finished season 3 of the show. I am glad that although the show unfortunately got canceled (stupid bc of how good it was), I am glad most plot points had some form of closure by the end of the season. The residential school arc was very historically accurate and although a brief glimpse into the intergenerational trauma it showed on Kha'kwet I felt like it was handled with care. Its a deeply disturbing part of Canadian history with effects lingering now, and I don't think erasing it from Canadian history and media or sanitizing it is the right approach, so I'm glad it wasn't the case here.
Spy x Family
Ongoing. So adorable and I am really enjoying the antics! Finished the show. I felt like as it went on it was not giving me the depth I wanted to maintain my interest. It was charming, but not interested in watching more.
Meitantei Suteihomuzu/ Detective Stay Homes (2022)
So apparently it is only 2 episodes even though they teased more at the end. I can't believe its over!! It was a very interesting drama with a very interesting format. I enjoyed the story and though it felt like the plot was concluded, I thought it would start a new mystery in the next episode.
My Liberation Notes
WTF is this show. It speaks to my soul. Absolutely love it so far. The chemistry between the 'worship couple' is insane and nearly makes me scream. I love the slice-of-life aspect and I find so many of the characters and situations to be so relatable. I feel like you can really tell that this show was written by women the way the characters are all characterized, how the male leads are written and esp with Mr Gu. I love how unhinged the characters are and how many layers they all have. I have no idea what to think with the ending of episode 10. Also, I wouldn't call this a melo at all... its realistic but also so funny. I like the overall vibe of the show and am cautiously optimistic to see more.
Update: Finished the show! Mildly disappointed with the ending but I enjoyed the overall experience.
Heartstopper
I absolutely loved this show and am excited to see future seasons! I knew I'd like it since reading the comics and hearing such high praise for the show so honestly not a big surprise. All the actors did so well, love the filmography and you could feel the love for the story in the production of the show. Can't wait for more bittersweet moments!
Shoujiki Fudousan
This show is better than I expected. I am really enjoying the show so far.
Update: Finished the show and I enjoyed it! It was humorous and heartfelt. I very much liked how the show ended the relationship between Emimoto-san and Nagase as it felt very in character. Learned a lot about how the real estate industry works too.
