COLLEGE FRESHMEN THREAD: as seen on my Twitter @natanic_
I’m going to do a freshmen advice thread with all the things I think you must know. Things I neglected and just tips in general 😂 1. Don’t choose your college based on “litness” because “litness” will not help you graduate. 2. When you make your schedule pick times you know you can handle. If you know you can’t get up in the morning 8AMS are not for you boo. 3. Stay on top of the financial aid office and student accounts. Because they will play with you. Don’t take no for an answer. 4. Bc I know some of you are in these groupme’s and groupchats arguing already.. Chill out lmfao. That’s unnecessary drama you don’t want. 5. Be willing to meet new people, networking opportunities exist when you put yourself out there more 😊 6. Dont change who you are to accommodate your friends though. Real friends are going to accept you for who you are *cues sentimental music* 7. Welcome week/freshmen week is about to be the best experience. Enjoy it, because when it’s time to focus on class you need to be on it. 8. Don’t let this new found freedom get to your head. You just can’t do anything you want because your parents are gone.Remember your teaching. 9. Leave your high school petty drama at home.. You’re an adult, people are grown here and nobody has time for that bullshit. 10. Don’t make a bad name for yourself sleeping around the campus and being loose honey. People talk. Move in silence 11. Back to moving in silence, discretion is key. Your business is YOURS. Accomplish what you need to w/ discretion and reap benefits later. 12. Speaking of discretion, DO NOT NAME THE FRAT/SORORITY YOU WANT TO PLEDGE WHEN YOU BECOME ABLE TO. BLACKLIST IS SO DAMN REAL. 13. Take yo ass to class, unless your professor makes it known attendance doesn’t matter. Attendance can mess your grade up. 14. Take advantage of people who sell books for a lower price. You may be able to get your books for half price opposed to full. 15. Ladies and gentlemen.. Do not fight over these coon girls and boys. If you have to fight over them they’re not for you, ok. 16. (HBCU STUDENTS) : watch out for these visitation rules. Some RAs and buildings are lenient but breaking rules can be detrimental. 17. Don’t be pressed to attend every party lmfao. The same party is going to happen every other week with a different name, same people. 18. OFFICE HOURS. TAKE YO ASS TO OFFICE HOURS. PROFESSORS LOVE TO SEE YOUR FACE LMFAO. It’ll help you get your A. 19. SOME upperclassmen just want to use you because you’re fresh meat. Please don’t play yourself lil boo’s. Don’t want to see you hurt. 20. Do your work before you got any party. It’s beneficial lmfao. Because after your party you’re going to look at your workload like “NAH” 21. This is important, do not waste your education. You are here to learn as well as have fun but if your parents are stretching their pockets to pay, you are relying on financial aid, or have scholarship money remember they can drag that from you at any moment. Focus. 22. I think a mentor is beneficial to freshmen. Having someone who has previously been in your situation help you around campus. 23. Don’t be afraid to explore the new area you are in. Get comfortable with it you’ll be there for awhile. 24. This is more towards females but guys this for you too.. Ppl are going to hate on you & do not sweat that. You’re not in school for them 25. If you’re allowed to have a fridge and microwave in your room take advantage of that. Campus food gets exhausting after awhile. 26. Study groups may work for you, I think that’s also beneficial. Find some friends in your class that can help you if you need it! 27. Also take advantage of free tutoring if your school is offering it. Free help for classes that cost you money. You don’t want to fail. 28. Join organizations. Join organizations. Join organizations. Good way to meet people, get community service hours, and have fun. 29. It’s never too early to start seeking interest in internships and jobs. You are here to find a future career path y'all. 30. Don’t spend your collegiate career crying over a fast ass boy or girl. You are going to RUIN your time here. Literally. 31. Lmfao don’t come here trying to fake like you’re from the hood if you know you’re not. People see straight through you. At least I do. 32. TBH PDF’S AND NOTES CAN BE YOUR FRIEND BEFORE THAT $400 TEXTBOOK WILL BE LOL. 33. You will meet some of your best friends at school but don’t neglect the best friends from back home who STILL try to be there for you. 34. HBCUs have more than black students, there’s a little bit of everyone here so don’t neglect the opportunity to go bc it’s “all black”. 35. If you’re going to a PWI & you’re black please join your black student union. That’s important to me. Your voice matters. 36. Support students business and hustles on campus. If they’re baking, doing hair, making clothes, or music. It helps them! 37. Lol campus is going to be looking like a fashion show. If you’re into dressing nice your going to feel a certain way when you get here. 38. Ask around about what professors you should and shouldn’t take. So you don’t waste your time taking someone fucking annoying and stupid. 39. Some people from the groupme are going to see you in person during move in and not even speak even though they talked to you all summer😴 40. Don’t fight unless it’s sooo necessary. You can get fined for that, you can get removed from the university. Just don’t. 41. If you smoke or drink, I don’t judge, be discrete if you are on a DRY campus. You can lose housing, get fined etc. just chill 😂 42. Not all the friends you make fall semester will be your friends by the end of spring semester. The real & the fake will show their self. 43. Dorm essentials: make sure you stop by your local Walmart and pick up your personal cleansing items! 44. Stock up on your soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, face wash etc. so you won’t have to constantly keep going out and replacing. 45. Don’t be that dirty bitch that leaves trash everywhere in the room, in the bathrooms. Act civilized. You too grown to be that nasty 🙄 46. IT’S OK TO TAKE A MENTAL HEALTH DAY. COLLEGE IS STRESSFUL. PEOPLE THERE ARE STRESSFUL. Take a day from classes and regroup one in awhile. 47. I’m sorry if your school is wack and doesn’t heavily participate in homecoming. But homecoming is so lit bitch. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT be careful during that time because A LOT of people you don’t know will be on campus and be extra safe during the weeks events. 48. Lmfao before classes start I suggest you take a day to get acquainted with the campus and figure out where you’re going. 49. If you know you can’t handle your back home relationship while being away at school. Cut ties now. 50. If you know you can’t afford your school of choice and you have tried every option it is ok to pick another school. 51. Campus is big, but it’s not that big to be talking shit, cheating, fucking around and thinking you won’t be found out 😊 52. You don’t have to like your roommate, but you do need to respect them and their personal space. If you can’t coexist request to be moved 53. College will humble you. You may think you’re the baddest bitch but you will get sat down lmfaoooooo 54. Don’t wait until the end of the semester to complete all your math assignments. You’re going to struggle like shit 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 55. Don’t use all your flex/dining dollars in the first two weeks of school. Pace yourself 😂 56. Theres going to be the “cliquey” individuals in your class that think they’re running everything and everyone. They aren’t. They’re lame. 57. People are messy af so choose your “friends” wisely. It’s nothing for people to twist your words and spread shit across campus. 58. Start building your resume up, and continue to build it through out college. 59. If you’re short on cash and you know your parents can’t give it to you look for jobs you may be eligible for on campus or around campus. 60. Bring your own computer and your own printer so you don’t have to be on anyone’s time when it comes to completing school work. 61. Try things out of your comfort zone. Period. 62. Always have a friend with you if you know you’re about to get T’d and you’re drunk off your ass. Don’t be alone 😭 63. Don’t be in the situation where you are the at school boo, because when the semester ends or the real boo comes you’re irrelevant 😂 64. Choose your major because you want to do it. Not because your parent tells you to. 65. don’t blow your money on stupid unnecessary shit when you first get there. 66. Be cautious on buying party pack tickets because some parties you may not even end up going to people may not be going to that party etc 67. Stock up on your school supplies. Printer paper, line paper, notebooks, highlighters, pens, pencils, glue etc. 68. Do not go out and buy every book that’s on the list for your classes. Some professors don’t even use their books bruh 💀 69. Don’t let everyone in your room, lock your shit the hell up if you don’t trust the people. Because if your stuff comes up missing… Lol 70. Dont break the Marching band line when they come through.Move out the way when the Greeks start strolling. Don’t hop in either lol. 71. You’re going to learn a lot of new slang. East and west coast. Be prepared 😂 72. Campus police can be assholes and they abuse their power so be careful 🙃 73. Finish school at your own pace but don’t be a professional student moe lmfao. Graduate in four years or less is the motto for me. If your program requires you to be there 4+ years I understand but if you’re playing around get your life together lmfao. 74. *sheds tear* “College dont hit you fr till its 11:45 pm ,cafe closed, u have $.89 n yo account, no ride,no groceries, nd a paper and quiz due @ midnight.” - @cheef2u on Twitter 75. Blackboard may not work. It may shut down on you while you’re completing an assignment. Lmfao happened to me three times 😭 76. Damn it, not all professors update their blackboard. I’m yet to have a professor consistently update the shit b. 77. School wifi be on bullshit too lmfao. 78. I personally would wait to buy my dorm stuff the week of, or when you get in the area. It’s easier that way. 79. I forgot how instrumental cashapp is. That’s about to become your best best friend. As well as uber, lyft, and postmates. 80. Electronic items you should bring: Computer Printer (bring your own printer paper) Flash drive Phone, duh Multiple chargers and headphones
