it's easy and convenient to fall into this trope, and many of my favorite fics have fallen victim to it in some way or another, but readings of wx that imply or outright state that lwj saved wwx make me want to gnaw my arm off. because I feel like that's rly insidious and simplistic and does a great disservice to both of them and is missing the point of his character and of their relationship development. as teenagers, lwj wanted to be his savior, saw him struggling and demanded that he comply with lwj's own solutions, believing his path to be correct and his own judgements about wwx's situation (and body!) to matter more than wwx's own. and that's why they clashed so much - bc wwx refused to give up his agency or his autonomy, did not want to be treated as someone to be saved
and in canon, that was never his role anyway. he couldn't, and didn't, swan in to save wwx from all of the worst things that happened to him, and his methods for behavioral control - shame, judgement, commands - were repudiated in retrospect. wwx suffered, and was alienated from his loved ones, and died a horrible, violent death, and was not saved by anyone. postcanon, lwj is committed to trusting and believing in wwx rather than trying to stop him - he's listening rather than demanding
I hate this phrase but it's actually incredibly important that lwj didn't ever save wwx 'from himself'. of course, postres he does protect wwx - from jc, from dogs, from slander - but he never inserts himself as the hero in wwx's story, and he never tries to force his own judgements and opinions on wwx again, nor claim that his actions entitle him to anything. he doesn't solve the mystery alone, he doesn't defeat the big bad, and the final get-together is never framed as a reward for his actions. he offers support, comfort, physical aid, but wwx is still very much the main character in every way, and retains all his autonomy to drive the story forward and reckon with his past on his own terms. and this is exactly why they work postcanon in a way that they wouldn't have really worked in the flashback arc
in cql, this is more immediately apparent because lwj follows wwx's lead throughout the entire arc, offering trust and aid without condition or hesitation. but even in the novel, it comes through quite poignantly in the tree scene at lotus pier. wwx thinks that it's okay that he's going to fall. he's fallen many times before, and though it's hurt, he'd survived. but still, it would be wonderful for someone to catch him. and that's exactly what lwj does
#iirc the actual wording was 'more than wonderful' but it seemed like a clunky translation#anyway. do you GET it. DO you???? these authors are misunderstanding his role! he's a support beam (affectionate)!!!!#this doesn't mean he can't be his own person or have his own arc he's just not framed as The Savior#I mean wwx likes being saved in the little ways I just mean. imo there's a big difference btw protecting/supporting someone#on their own journey as they come to terms with shit and make decisions about their future#and saving them. like someone who needs to be saved has no power of their own and therefore no agency#and wwx always always exercises his agency even when he knows the outcome is death or worse#I honestly find this mindset shift so fascinating and it can apply metaphorically to a ton of situations#from disability to addiction#that I don't feel super qualified to speak further on.#I just think it's fucking cool!!!#cql txp#save

Hello Mojo, hope you're doing well and that you had a good break! I wanted to signal boost the MDZS May Diaspora event collection on AO3, and point out my favorite fic from there: 归心似箭 | Longing to Go Home by dragongirlG! It's both tender and bittersweet and it features such mature writing. The author got some hate for it when it initially got posted so I wanted to counter that and give it some love instead! [Who would do such a thing?! @dragongirlg-fics I’m sorry that happened to you, and here, have *so many hugs!* I’ll try to do a thing just for the diaspora event, but meanwhile, I’ll just treat this as a follower rec.]
归心似箭 | Longing to Go Home
by dragongirlG (M, 8k, wangxian)
Summary: The destruction of the Yin Tiger Seal does not kill Wei Wuxian; it ages him instead. He takes shelter in a cave expecting to die, but instead he lives, slowly learning to embrace life with each new day.
Thirteen years later, a young man with a Lan forehead ribbon stumbles into the cave. His name is Lan Sizhui.
~*~
Hi Momjo!!! I recently read the most *adorable* fic, and I loved it so much that it dragged me out of seclusion (read: social anxiety cave) to rec it. It's called 'Covered in Bees' by ScarlettStorm in which the Cloud Recesses is an apiary, and Wei Wuxian has suddenly found himself host to a swarm of bees. ~ @akyra-talanoa
Covered in Bees
by ScarlettStorm (T, 8k, wangxian)
Summary: “Cloud Reccesses Apiary,” says a toneless, deep masculine voice, with zero question in it. Wei Ying doesn’t care, because whoever possesses that voice is probably going to come save him from bees like a fucking hero while wearing like, a suit of armor. That’s what you wear to catch bees, right?
“I have like, so many bees outside my front door right now,” he says, mouth running out ahead of him before he can even begin to think about reining it in. “It’s like a sandstorm of bees out there. There are so many bees. I got out of my car and there were just bees and I don’t want these bees. Do you want these bees? Please tell me you will come get these bees. I can’t leave my house and I have enough food for maybe a week but then I’m gonna have to learn how to cook dry beans and no one wants that, especially not me.” Wei Ying runs out of air, takes a breath, and belatedly adds, “My name is Wei Ying. Hi.”
Or: The beekeeping AU that no one asked for.

Hi, you are a bless to this fandom. Your blog feels like a library, so thoroughly arranged and always within hand reach. [Thank you, wow!] Recently, I was going through Wèi Yīng | Wèi Wúxiàn is a Wēn tag and came across a fanfic, it has 3 chapters till now and is so intriguing that i thought to recommend it to you. I don't know if I can recommend or if you have already checked the story, The legendary Phoenix and his Dragon by Devipriya. I am in love with this story. I hope you will enjoy it too, do check it out
The legendary Phoenix and his Dragon
by Devipriya (T, 7k, wangxian)
Summary: Wen Wuxian, the essence of who he is, he is a naughty child, a prankster, an enchanting dizi player, a graceful dancer, an irresistible lover, a truly valiant warrior, a ruthless vanquisher of his foes, a man who left a broken heart in every home, an astute statesman and kingmaker, a thorough gentleman, a righteous individual of the highest order, and the most colorful incarnation.
He has been seen, perceived, understood and experienced in many different ways by different people. Different people saw different facets of who he is. For some, he is God. For some, he is a crook. For some, he is a lover. For some, he is a fighter. He is so many things.
But the phoenix, seen from the eyes of time was just a playful man. A man who plays with his awareness, with his imagination, with his memory, with his life, with his death. An individual who does not just dance with somebody. He dances with life. He dances with his enemy, He dances with the one he loves, He dances even at the moment of his death.
To taste an essence of who is Wen Wuxian, be with me in the journey of exploration, NO! playful exploration of life of a playful man.

Hi! Thanks for running this blog, it's helped me find so many fics. For your next follower recs post, I wanted to rec "This love like a flood, a fire, a fear" by natcat5. Its summary is vague (which I suspect is why it isn't better known) but it is a beautiful retelling of canon from LWJ's POV with slight canon divergence. I love the author's characterization of him and the prose is gorgeous. It is easily my favorite fic in the entire fandom, and I don't say that lightly. ~ @nyanja14
This love like a flood, a fire, a fear
by natcat5 (M, 57k, wangxian, lan wangji & lan xichen)
Summary: “I will love you as misfortune loves orphans, as fire loves innocence, and as justice loves to sit and watch everything go wrong.” - Lemony Snicket
~*~
i came to this ask to rec this baseball one called "Waiting for Spring" by thievinghippo on ao3. It somehow made me care about baseball soooo 'nough said ~ @scifikimmi
Waiting for Spring
by thievinghippo (E, 131, wangxian)
Summary: “It is a well-known fact across the major leagues that one does not smack Lan Wangji’s ass.”
Wei Wuxian rolls his eyes. Everyone smacks everyone’s ass in baseball. It’s how the game is played. Lan Wangji does not get to be exempt from this most sacred of baseball traditions.
Wei Wuxian will make sure of that.
Or, a Major League Baseball AU
~*~
hi mojo! i wanted to rec Something Good by boxoftheskyking (a loose sound of music/canon divergence au) and also MDZS: The Golden Engine by iffervescent (immortal wangxian modern au where they gotta solve a mystery and save china, featuring jiang cheng/lan xichen)
Something Good
by boxoftheskyking (T, 43k, wangxian)
Summary: "That Wei Wuxian, you know he used to be such a promising cultivator. Head Disciple of the Jiang Clan, can you believe it? You see, juniors, the punishment for traveling the path of demonic cultivation. No golden core, not so much as a whisper of spiritual power."
As a punishment for real and imagined crimes, Wei Wuxian is sentenced to work at Cloud Recesses as the lowest of servants. When a surprising reassignment lands him with eleven children to care for, everything changes again.
A Sound of Music AU
MDZS: The Golden Engine
by iffervescent (E, 82k, wangxian, xicheng)
Summary: In the modern era, immortals Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian return to Gusu. New evil and old friends + new friends and old evils.
~*~
Hi Mojo! First of all let me just tell you that you are amazing and this blog is like a gift from the gods! Bless you and your endless patience and hard work. [Oh, thank you so much!] I know that you have just accepted follower recs and I have missed miserably but I still wanted to write and bring attention to a writer by the pseudo Xiao_Hua on ao3, I think they are quite good and I just recently found the account with so much content. If you do have the time to check them out, I'd rec catfish, my fox or the red ribbon.
The Red Ribbon
by Xiao_Hua (M, 21k, wangxian, TGCF crossover)
Summary: Wei WuXian died but not before saving HanGuang-Jun and A-Yuan, leaving so much more behind than just his ribbon.
My Fox
by Xiao_Hua (E, 13k, wangxian)
Summary: Once he headed to YiLing that all changed for him. His priorities have been mingled with and ordered in complete disarray even without him noticing as he was left heavily influenced by a creature.
Or one where Lan WangJi is a dragon-spirit and he finds his mate in the form of a fox.
Catfish
by Xiao_Hua (E, 15k, wangxian)
Summary: Wei WuXian has a common sense that believes it has a nine-to-five job while Lan WangJi finds that incredibly hot.
Or one where two catfish realise that neither of them truly catfished.
~*~
Hi Mojo i'm recommending this amazing fic it is called song of joys and regrets. it's a time travel AU it's amazing. And your Blog is a Godsend Thank you! [Aw, you’re so sweet!] ~ @highgoddess
Song of Joy and Regrets
by HelloKitten (not rated, 59k, wangxian, WIP)
Summary: The Archery competition at Qishan this year has hit a snag. As the Sects face the wrongs perpetrated by their future selves, Wei Wuxian finds himself adopted by half of the cultivation world who are determined to save him from himself.
Baby Wangxian suffers. Adult Wangxian's job here is done.
"I'm starting to see a pattern to all his plans..." "Do they all involve him being bait?" "Yes" came deadpanned responses.
~*~
Here’s a 2021 Reverse Big Bang entry, in time for Father’s Day; [Oops, my bad, sorry!] Under a Blanket of Black Wings, by ChaoticAndrogynous (#31398395); LWJ, recuperating from the 33 lashes, tells A-Yuan a series of fairytales about a heroic monster and the brave little boy he befriended. Vampire! WWX (in the framing story as well as the story-within-the-story); happy ending.
Under a Blanket of Black Wings
by ChaoticAndrogynous (T, 19k, wangxian)
Summary: Lan Wangji tells A-Yuan a bedtime story about a beautiful monster and the brave little boy who was his friend. Thirteen years later, the monster returns.
~*~
Hello Mojo! Have you read ‘Key Differences’ by Pupeez4eva? Its a MDZS!WWX meets CQL!WWX and its really good! [It’s on my list!]
Key Differences
by pupeez4eva (T, 6k, wangxian)
Summary: “I don’t understand,” Wei Wuxian said, while his alternate self continued to stare at him with almost a look of hurt in his eyes. There was longing in there too, which Wei Wuxian would have easily recognised if he paid enough attention. “How could you not get together, after everything. What even went on in the Guanyin Temple if you didn’t confess?”
“The Guanyin Temple,” Wei Ying repeated incredulously. “You’re asking me if I confessed at — honestly, a lot went on that day. It was a life and death situation. There was no confessing.”
Wei Wuxian stared at him, appalled.
(Wherein Wei Wuxian ends up meeting an alternate version of himself who, much to his horror, never married Lan Wangji. Obviously he has to do something to fix this).
~*~
Hey Mojo i would recommend this fanfic if you already haven’t, it’s called “ take me back to a time “ by DizziDreams. It’s sooooo good
take me back to a time
by DizziDreams (T, 144k, wangxian, 3zun)
Summary: Wei Ying has a lot on his plate right now.
It’s finals week -- which isn’t so bad. He’s never had to study much to do well in classes. But that just means that things are that much more tense with Jiang Cheng, who, as far as Wei Ying can tell, only takes study breaks long enough to glare at Wei Ying where he sits on the couch playing video games.
It’s not studies that have Wei Ying stressed out. It’s everything else. It’s the recruitment for the research trial he’s coordinating. It’s jiejie and her impending marriage to His Royal Douchebag Jin Zixuan. It’s the volunteer work at the palliative care facility. It’s Wen Ning’s worsening condition. It’s Wen Qing working herself thin to care for her brother and Wen Yuan. It’s the way Wen Yuan never seems to have enough food.
So, yeah. There’s enough on Wei Ying’s plate already, meaning it’s not entirely welcome when he comes home and finds a man standing in his bedroom. A man in extravagant white robes, a ribbon tied around his forehead, long hair gathered into a topknot, fist clutching a sword at his side, who asks him, “Where am I?”
~*~
Idk if this has already been rec’d (I’ve been off the grid for a while now), but there’s this absolutely incredible fic called Restitution by an anon on ao3 people should definitely check out!
this one?
on restitution
by Anonymous (M, 78k, wangxian, jin ling & wei wuxian, lan sizhui & wei wuxian, WIP)
Summary: When Wei Wuxian regains consciousness, he is in a bed. A real, proper bed, not the slab he called a bed in his cave in the Burial Mounds.
Jiang Cheng is glowering above him.
Wei Wuxian doesn't die during the siege of the Burial Mounds. Rather, he is captured in secret and confined at Lotus Pier. Things change accordingly.

Lapsteel
by carriecmoney (T, 42k, wangxian)
Summary: Now and then, I think about you now and then...
It's been thirteen years since Wei Ying ran for the prairies, leaving behind a family in shambles and a secret on the Pacific wind. What happens when the storm he swirled catches up to him?
Modern AU with country music star Lan Zhan, stormchaser Wei Ying, and shared crossroads.

CQL Rewatch - Episode 2
This is one of my favorite shots in the entire show. I don’t care if it’s real or not, I want to walk on that water road.
Now that I know this is a fake leg, I will never be able to un-see it. I honestly don’t remember if it’s specified in the book that Wei Wuxian rides side-saddle, but is it really that important? The man had to ride a donkey practically bare-back, which is extremely difficult. Ever since I found this out, I was just a little flummoxed as to why they took such great pains to have him appear to ride this way.
I really identify with Wei Wuxian here, as I would also leave my comfortable watering hole rather than talk to random people, and then I’d also hide just a little ways away so I could eavesdrop on their conversations.
WWX anti: Is he your dad?
WWX stan: He’s my idol!
This conversation makes the whole scene worth it. And I love that it shows that there are people who still like/admire Wei Wuxian. It’s not all people hating him and deriding him.
I’m simultaneously saddened and creeped out by Yan. They go into her story much more in the book, but I think enough details are left in The Untamed that you still get it. I feel so bad for her mother, who does an incredible job of showing just how exhausted and at a loss she is. It’s such a sad story!
Okay, stop everything for this bad bitch! And I say that in the most affectionate way possible, because I fucking love Jin Ling. He would have been my favorite character if he hadn’t disappeared (bc flashback) and if Wei Wuxian and, more importantly, Lan Wangji hadn’t stolen my heart. Jin Ling’s entrance here is amazing (and it’s equally good in the donghua), and I love his sass and his arrogance right off the bat.
But Jiang Cheng definitely has the most badass entrance (not the best, but the most badass). I really love the way the story is framed: starts in the present and then does the flashback, only to join back up with the present again. However, this does mean that a lot of these scenes hit so much harder only on the second watch. Wei Wuxian’s face upon hearing Jiang Cheng’s voice is so much better and carries so much more weight once you know what happened between them. I still like it, because that moment hits you later when they reunite halfway through the series—and this definitely gives it some re-watchability.
And let me just say, I love Jiang Cheng. I love his relationship with Wei Wuxian, I love his relationship with Lan Wangji—I LOVE HIM. I love that he is stubborn and sticks to his guns, but also that he has a heart of gold and will not admit to it.
Another great entrance. And I just think he looks really pretty here. I was thinking the other day about how Lan Wangji is a man of few words—it’s actually one of the sect rules to not speak too much. But here you have the young disciples doing all the talking for Lan Wangji, who just isn’t willing to give Jiang Cheng, a clan leader, the time of day. The utter disdain he has for Jiang Cheng is palpable throughout this episode (and I love it!!!). Their interactions are…chef’s kiss. I love the tension between them; as the two people closest to Wei Wuxian, you’d think they would have been closer, but because they fell on opposing sides, there is just this seething anger and distrust and resentment (I’ll get on my soapbox about that later) right below the surface. Jiang Cheng is really trying to be on his best behavior, but he’s so passive aggressive, and Lan Wangji is just so over it all.
At this point, Lan Wangji is probably already hoping that it’s Wei Wuxian in Mo Xuanyu’s body. The way he looks at him here, and then looks back, lowering his head just so, like he’s disappointed. It’s a sad moment, and even sadder when you think about how Wei Wuxian is just trying to escape here. He doesn’t want to be found out, but the one person who can help him, and is willing to help him is right there.
And now we find out Wei Wuxian’s ugly past from the random cultivators passing by: Jin Ling is Wei Wuxian’s nephew, orphaned as a baby because Wei Wuxian was responsible for killing not just his father, but his mother too, who just happens to be Wei Wuxian’s older sister, who he absolutely treasures. Jiang Yanli is one of the two most important people in Wei Wuxian’s life (I would say the other is Lan Wangji)—she is definitely one of the most influential people in his life and someone he looks up to and looks toward in times of strife. Other than Lan Wangji, she is the one person whose love for him never wavers.
This part will never fail to make me laugh. This is it. This is their relationship in a nutshell. TENSION.
Iconic. Re: Wei Wuxian’s flute playing.
I could scream about this scene probably forever. It is definitely in my top five if not higher. I audibly gasped the first time I saw it, and covered my mouth. This is the moment when Lan Wangji recognizes him, which is already amazing enough, but then Wei Wuxian grabs his arm back, like—my heart cannot take it! I don’t know what exactly he’s thinking there, but in my mind it’s a confirmation to Lan Wangji that yes, it’s him, but also an affirmation to Wei Wuxian that’s it’s Lan Wangji—the Lan Wangji, his soulmate and confidante. Did that make sense? Or was that also just prolonged screaming? Guess I’ll never know.
And also, let’s not forget to point out that Lan Wangji cannot take his eyes off of Wei Wuxian here.

For the character ask meme, The Untamed
Tysm!! I'm going to mostly answer this specifically about The Untamed/CQL, but there might be some overlap with the book/donghua bc the Untamed was not my introduction to the characters! Also because my answers to some of these questions are inevitably related to my fanfic reading experiences, which tend to blur the line between CQL and MDZS...
The first character I first fell in love with:
I'm pretty sure it was Lan Wangji? I already loved WWX from the donghua but Xiao Zhan's WWX took a few episodes to grow on me compared to Wang Yibo's LWJ. At this point I'm not really sure what my hangup was with CQL!WWX but we've long moved past it...
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
Xue Yang... I do love him in the book/donghua too, but I absolutely adore Wang Haoxuan's portrayal in the drama!!
The character everyone else loves that I don’t:
I'm not sure... I feel like I do like most of the characters besides the few exceptions (Wen Ruohan, Jin Guangshan, Jin Zixun, Su She, etc). I guess I'm not really much interested in Jin Zixuan outside of his relationship with Jiang Yanli? He's a fine character and I get why people like him I'm just not as invested
The character I love that everyone else hates:
I mean besides Xue Yang who is a divisive character for a reason? For one, I'm not on this train of hating on Jiang Cheng that's been going around. He's not perfect but he's not the root of all evil or something-- I'm invested in the relationship angst. Other possible answer: Lan Qiren. There are some great moments in the drama where it's obvious how much he genuinely cares for his nephews!
The character I used to love but don’t any longer:
Once again, I'm not sure I have an answer for this one. I think the closest thing to a character I don't love anymore (which psa i still love them) is that I used to think lwj was my favorite cql character for a while and now I'd say wwx
The character I would totally smooch:
The juniors are too young for me, Wangxian is too in love, I am *not* getting mixed up in whatever SongXueXiao or 3zun have going on... I think the logical answer here is Nie Huaisang tbh. And he'd probably even be good at it!
The character I’d want to be like:
You see, the characters I probably relate to the most as a burnt out "Gifted Kid" are Lan Wangji and Nie Huaisang. Which is... fun. I used to be a lot more like LWJ, and ngl I could use some of that clear judgement + hyper competence + no fucks given he's got going on post time skip.
The character I’d slap:
Jin Guangshan and/or Jin Zixun 🎉🎉🎉
A pairing that I love:
Okay I've read fic for a lot of different ships but (if we assume Wangxian is a given) my other favorite CQL ship is XueXiao!! Domesticity, angst, Identity Porn, and enemies to lovers, all set up right there in canon <3
A pairing that I despise:
CQL has a lot of ships that would read under the right circumstances/in the right mood... Generally I don't vibe much with Xicheng, SangCheng, or Chengxian but there's nothing wrong with them per se and I have enjoyed specific fics that included them. I'm not a huge fan of Zhuiling either but, again, it can be done in a way that I like it.
I guess maybe Wen Ruohan/Lan Qiren or Jin Guangshan/Lan Qiren? I can kind of see the appeal of a relationship that ended in tragedy (bc they are dicks in the current time frame and also not on good terms) but honestly I am just not into delving into WRH's or JGS's love lives. Y'all do you tho, no judgement here.
#cql#mdzs+#thingslizmade#i have one more of these to do I'm just being slow sorry!#i really appreciate people sending them in#originalpostbyliz

CQL-verse wangxian fic recs
After recc’ing some fics based solely on the novel, I guess it’s now time to share some of my favourite fics that are partially or entirely based on CQL!canon.
And they were roommates... by harriet_vane (M, 41k, Modern AU)
A fic based lightly on a reddit post— "I (21f) have a crush on my roommate (20f). I can't figure out if she actually likes me back or not or is just being friendly. She cooks for me and knows all my favorite foods, and brings me lunch. She buys me anything I want, and her family all joke about our wedding. I once fell asleep on her lap and when I woke up she was stroking my hair and I almost had a stroke. I can't figure out if she's flirting with me or not. Help!"
If you’re willing to read a fic set in modern-day US of A, you should definitely give it a read.
care by everbrighter (T, 10k, Modern AU)
Lan Yuan has lived most of his sixteen years not knowing the man who raised him as a toddler.
So when Wei Ying suddenly comes back to life, both Lan Yuan and his dad, Lan Zhan, work to make room in their lives for him.
Too bad he has a science project due this week...
I found this fic incredibly delightful for a number of reasons, but perhaps most of all because it’s set in the GTA. Part of a series with four other fics.
hush now by astronicht (E, 12k, Modern AU)
In a quiet college town in upstate New York, seven years since the last time Wei Ying stepped foot in America, or a doctoral program, she finds Lan Zhan.
Look, it’s a soft and smutty fic about wlw in academia.... what more need to be said?
Linger in the Sun by etymologyplayground (T, 39k)
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji find themselves cursed, unable to see or hear each other. They figure things out anyway.
A fic full of humour in which post-CQL wangxian gets together while solving a mysterious series of curses affecting children in a small village.
Out of the Bin and Into Your Heart by Alaceron (T, 27k, Modern AU)
"Lan Zhan!” Wuxian exclaims as soon as the door to Lan Wangji's apartment opens. “Fake-date me!”
The door slams shut in his face.
A fake-relationship fic taking place in the setting of a Chinese Cultural Center, where wwx is the local insufferable yet endearing activist (who saves lwj’s number under ‘oppa~’ in his phone). Part of a series with two more fics.
Something Yet to Learn by Glitterbombshell (T, 16k)
Wei Wuxian is asked (under duress) to babysit a class of tiny Lan cultivators for just a few minutes. A few minutes turns into an hour, turns into two hours, turns into an impromptu literal field trip and now there's an entire class that is weeks ahead of their curriculum, their most junior disciples have apparently imprinted on Wei Wuxian like baby birds, and Lan Qiren has no one to blame but himself.
This one is just delightfully soft, set in a post-CQL!canon where wangxian are already married.
this river runs to you by sundiscus (T, 53k, Modern AU with magic)
Framed by the soft morning light, sleek hair swept back and pale blue robes not even slightly rumpled, he looks almost inhuman.
He looks like the last person who should be knocking on Wei Wuxian’s door.
In which Wei Wuxian is a curse worker secretly searching for a lost dragon, Lan Wangji is his new assistant, and the two things may not be entirely unrelated.
I don’t personally get the lwj-as-a-dragon thing that the fandom seems to have, but this fic brings it up in a way i was able to enjoy. I also love the idea of wwx in his Howl-like deranged house full of cursed objects.
Unstrictly Ballroom by Ariaste (T, 47k, Modern AU)
Thirteen years ago, Wei Wuxian brought scandal and shame down upon his head and was thrown out of the competitive ballroom dance circuit. He vanished, never to be heard from again.
Lan Wangji aches when he remembers the way Wei Ying danced--like a laugh given movement and form. He has never stopped searching for him.
I feel like most people have already heard of this fic, but it can never hurt to share it. Ariaste is a very skilled writer, and has written other wangxian fics worth giving a read (for instance turn towards the sun, which contains explicit content)
#cql fics#cql fic recs#cql#the untamed#long post#i don't really read cql fics anymore so i'm recording this for posterity
