Random: A gamer’s diary entry for October 2023!

While I finish writing, and playing, my next backlog games I’m excited to add to the wishlist ‘Little Goody Two Shoes’. Which looks like it’s going to be getting a physical release. (Which I won��t be picking this game up until the physical drops. I already know I’ll like it.)

One of my favorite YouTube channels called Nostalook worked on the trailer (and I think the in game cutscenes as well) and their work is stunning as usual. It really captures the 90s anime look. It deeply reminds me of Princess Maker.

Also it’s a shoujo yuri. Female romancable characters only! (And they’re all so ✨ PRETTY ✨) I can’t explain how HAPPY that makes me. I just hope it stays in an innocent direction.

You know, because in majority yuri isn’t made for women. 😐

I get it, but at the same time I feel locked out of the content because it’s so obviously not for me. But that’s a complaint for a different post on a different day! Makes me wonder if men feel the same way about yaoi.

I was very bad this month. There were a lot of physical sales. And then my preorders for new games rolled in. I always prioritize my physical games over my… “digital” games, so those will be in the front of my backlog!

I’m already playing a few of these games, so my reviews on those should be out next week!

I decided to skip this month’s two biggest releases altogether until about next year. I want the GOTY Spider-Man 2 when it comes with all of the DLC for $20. The first one was amazing. I’m just willing to wait on it. Which is a similar story for Mario Wonder. I mostly use the fall season to get all the titles I’ve been wanting for a freaking sick deal. Why should I have to pay full price?

The older I get, the more I feel like I appreciate weird games and indie titles more anyway. I feel like those other projects have the freedom to take more aesthetic risks than the big companies. Not because of the creatives inside (They tend to always have good ideas), but the stockholders. 🙄

I adore some of these triple A titles to my core, but I crave to see more new things too. Different things.

Dave The Diver is a good example. That seems rad. I like ocean games. I like that we get more of them now. I’m gonna wait and see if that one gets a physical as well. You collect fish to go back to your restaurant to make sushi? Sign me up!

Don’t even get me started on Limited Run’s releases this month.

While ‘Persona 4’ and ‘This Way Madness Lies’ are no brainers for me; I was EXTREMELY on the fence about ‘Persona 3 Portable’. (I did pick it up reluctantly)

The remake of Persona 3 will be upon us soon and I don’t know if I’ll want to play P3P again. The problem lies in the fact that most of these games become much more expensive later. Buying it on “launch” from Limited Run usually IS the cheaper option.

That shit annoys me so bad. I don’t like picking up games for value. But because the game might be value I have to be ahead of the scalpers and pay for it at its maybe cheapest.

I collect games because I like ‘em. I want to play them and love them. I want to use my stuff. I don’t give a fuck about the “value”. I respect the folks that do care about that stuff but I plain just don’t.

But that’s also just kinda life. Not much can be done about other people. You can only truly control yourself. 🙄

Overall October has been an exceptionally excellent month for gaming! We’ve had so much good stuff come out this fall season. I’m excited for next month as well! Super Mario RPG will be making its re-debut and I can’t wait to talk about that one!

ZEvent: the success story of a french charity event that the media didn't take seriously at first

Those who follow me know that the ZEvent is happening this week-end (because I've been posting non-stop about it). But to help everyone understand what this is and how insane it actually is, here's the story of the biggest charity event of Twitch!

It starts in 2016, with the "Projet Avengers" by the belgian streamer Athene. It's an emergency charity event organized each time a catastrophy happens (one that hasn't enough attention from media etc). In France, the streamer ZeratoR joins the event with 15 other french streamers by doing a 3 days livestream... in ZeratoR's living room. They gathered 170 770€.

Inspired by that, ZeratoR and his associate Dach created their own charity event, the ZEvent. In 2017 they rented a house, put all their equipement in the basement and livestreamed at 30 streamers for 3 days for La Croix-Rouge. They did it through power shortage, internet shortage,... and the media which mostly didn't give much attention to it. I mean, it was the first year so it's normal media were not gonna rush to them without knowing what they were doing. And back then, "the gamers" were even more misunderstood than now: "you're telling me that people watch them play video games and gives them money? It's not a real job" and "Look at those people in their 30s with no job playing video games in a basement" Depiste it all, they collected more than 500k€.

In 2018 they organized it again, this time for Médecins Sans Frontières with 38 streamers and they rented a huge room. They also tried reaching for the media and the majority answered with "Meh, we kinda talked about it last year, so it's not really interesting". Which is a bit absurd, like "Oh yeah, you're collecting money for a charity? Yeah, I don't think you need exposure to make that work. Good luck!" But suddenly, everything was going crazy and people realized that they were gonna break the 1M barrier. The journalists who had refused to cover the event suddenly decided it could be nice to be a part of this. They were kindly told that this is not how this works, as there was quite a lot of planning to do before letting journalists enter the building. They ended with 1 094 731€, many tears and the feeling they proved "gamer" was not a synonym for "lazy-ass".

In 2019 the ZEvent was now very famous in the charity world, so they received more than 400 requests from charities. Finally, they chose l'Institut Pasteur and they reunited 55 streamers. Journalists were all covering the event and along with it, the tone changed. They were actually trying to understand the streaming world, they were encouraging people to go donate too and they were giving amazing coverage of the event. To everybody's surprise, they gathered 3 509 878€, more than the triple of the previous year with the same amount of time.

2020 was the year of every problems. First with the Covid, everybody feared it wouldn't be possible to do it. They finally ended renting a whole hotel, asked everybody to do a covid test and then the streamers couldn't leave the building during the whole event and no one else could enter. But a few days before the event, a bunch of streamers had the covid or had family member who caught it. The organizers decided to do an hybrid version of the event: the streamers who couldn't come participated online, from their home. Then, the charity chosen created a few polemics, as Amnesty International didn't convince everybody. Some were saying they were too political, some that they were helping terrorists, etc. But ZEvent held its ground. In the background, there were rumors 2020 would be the year the event would finally flop. The 54 streamers didn't waver, kept the hard work, even organized a game with the real host of a famous french TV game. And 55 hours later, they had reached 5 724 377€, breaking every possible record, surprising the charity, the journalists, the fans and the whole ZEvent crew themselves.

The legend of the ZEvent is still going strong and the year 2021 is already full of promises. Once again, fear the French for we are determined.

My Top Games of the Last Decade

The year 2020 is here, ushering in a new decade to live in. Instead of looking at the bad events that occurred over the years, I instead want to look at my favorite games over the last 10 years. It’s crazy that back in 2010, I was only in my second half of the fifth grade. Oh how young and naïve I was and an even worse gamer. Now in 2020, I am in the second semester of my second year of university, studying in the psychology field. I feel how I was raised over the last years shaped of how I am as a person and I am still learning, no one is perfect. Those developments shaped even the gamer I am now. Back when I was younger, I just liked games that were fun to play. But now I am a person who puts Character Development and Story before Gameplay. You will see this shift as the years go by.

Well let’s start with 2010. And I will try to limit how much I write each game to about a paragraph each. Don’t want to make this post too long. I can give a more detailed explanation at a future date if someone is interested. 

PS. All the games are Nintendo Games. I’m only a Nintendo gamer so sorry if you don’t see like Persona 5 or Last of Us.

2010: Kirby’s Epic Yarn

Gosh this game is too freaking cute for words. I remember the stories about how much I wanted this game when I was younger, even the embarrassing ones. While this game is easy even for Kirby standards, this game is so fun to play. The levels are enjoyable to play, you can get lost hours doing minigames and playing music (Frosty Wheel is still the best), and is just cute. This game is cute incarnate. And if you don't want to play the original version, you can play a port of it on the 3DS with even more goodies on it.

2011: Pokémon Black and White

My favorite Pokémon games and generation even if I started with Pearl. Gen 5 of Pokémon is super special to me as I know it is for many others, being the first game I bought the day of release. I was also pretty blind in my playthrough, finding new discoveries as they came along and finding new Pokémon that I might have not liked at first but became my favorites. Pokémon like the Krookodile line, Emolga, the Leavanny line and so much more. The game also first brought to my attention to how characters can be written well and still is my favorite story in a mainline Pokémon game. 

2012: Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure

So I’m kinda cheating with this one since I didn’t play it until 2013 but damn it, I don’t care! This game is awesome. I am super terrible with rhythm games but this game is one that is very enjoyable with an excellent story and characters. Phantom R is such a cool guy that you just want to hang out with and go dancing with and not the fact he’s a gentleman. The rhythm minigames are mostly enjoyable and have a wide variety to play so you can't bored very easily (the gyroscope one can go die in a fire though). All I want to know is where is the damn sequel already Sega?! It’s been 8 freaking years with that teaser you showed at the ending of the game and no I don't count that bad IOS game you made a year later. We fans need our fix and answers now. 

2013: Mario and Luigi Dream Team

Bowser’s Inside Story will always be my favorite Mario and Luigi game but this game comes to a close second. As part of Year of Luigi, this game did not disappoint. Luigi is front and center and he is the best of the part of game, with his dream abilities and overall character. The story is also very good with the adventures the bro’s have on Pi’illo Island and the soundtrack of the game is my video game soundtrack of all time. There is also the fact that giant battles return and if anyone knows me, knows I love me those giants <3

I also have two honorable mentions for 2013 that I will give a brief note while I like them

Fire Emblem Awakening 

First Fire Emblem game, got me in the series. Characters are great and story left me generally shocked at points. Make a yearly tradition to one playthrough each year

Super Mario 3D World

Favorite Mario platformer, Peach being playable and being a cat. Yes please

2014: Kirby Triple Deluxe 

I freaking love Kirby games :D Triple Deluxe was the first Kirby game on the 3DS, using an engine that looks beautiful on the 3DS that was used for the next game they did. The game is super colorful with its vibrate worlds and use of pastel colors. The new abilities is super fun to play with as well, Archer being my favorite. Supernova is also a neat gimmick for the game and glad it was present in many of the levels and used in new ways to solve puzzles. 

2015: Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle

Surprise! I said favorite games of the decade and mobile games count. This game means so much to me, being the one of the mobile games I keep track of everyday, even looking at what the JP version gets. I am proud of my account and how far it has come over these past years. Though I was not there right when it released, it has felt like that long as I have had my account for over 4 years now and don’t plan to quit now. One day I will have my full husband team, just you watch <3

2016: Dragon Ball Fusions

This game was my answer to a playable Dragon Ball RPG to play on Nintendo consoles (before Xenoverse 2 got ported over on the Switch). The chibi artstyle gave this game its own identify from other games like it. The gameplay was fun as you can make your own character and fly all across the world fighting characters from the Dragon Ball timeline. The game is all about the fusion mechanic, but with an expanded roster of characters to fuse and the ability to fuse your favorites is a blast. 

Brief Honorable Mention to Pokémon Sun and Moon for a fun region to explore, new pokemon to love and pretty good story.

(Lillie is so precious for this world I swear. And Snowy as well :D))

2017: Miitopia

A lot of people would write off this game as a simple Mii game, but it is so much more than that. This game has much more personality than one might think, with its class system, characters even when you chose who is what role and the story as well. The story and characters allows many possibilities of ideas for stories and art for creators to make and enjoy, as this game and Tomodachi Life was used as a template for a rp that me and my bf do. And this game can get hard, like wanting to rage quit hard, so be prepared for grinding. The OST is also a charm of the game, being one of my favorite OSTs ever. 

Like with 2013, I have two honorable mentions that I will give a short comment on.

Splatoon 2

Love it more than the original, Aerospray is still the master race and Off The Hook is better than Squid Sisters, don’ t @ me XD

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia 

Amazing story, characters and unique experience from other games I have played. Berkut x Rinea OTP

2018: Dragon Ball FighterZ

As much as I like the Super Smash Bros games, I was more excited for this game to come out. I was glad it did come to Switch so I can play it. FighterZ was my first proper fighting game with button inputs and it threw me for a loop, but eventually I got the hang of it and is still learning. The story is a fun experience if you don’t think too much about it, me loving Android 21. And of course I main my husband that is in the gif above <3

2019: Pokémon Sword/Shield and Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission (That’s right, a tie)

I was excited for SwSh since day 1 and was not disappointed even with the dex cuts. The Wild Area has been a blast exploring, finding all the new raid Pokémon to catch and train. The new Pokémon are super fun to use, some of my favorites being Ponyta, Scorebunny and Dreepy. My baby Eevee also got a GMax form and she is super freaking fluffy, big and I want to hug her <3 I’m excited for the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC when they come out.

This game was huge to us USA fans of the series as this was the first time we ever got anything DB Heroes related here. The cards were fun to make teams with and make even custom cards. It was a full experience without to play the irl game, which would still be fun. Though the game is slow to add updates, I will be waiting for what will be coming. I am glad the game came out so we can finally enjoy all of what the game has to offer. (Though I played the previous game in the series being Ultimate Mission X through Citra, so I got a headstart XD)

This is it for this post. Even though I am late at posting it, better late than never. If anyone is interested, I’m glad to give more detailed descriptions. I realize I have to do better at explain my opinions in a more detailed matter.

Shadow: Watch your step. I just finished sweeping up the goldfish.

Rouge: We have goldfish?

Shadow: Not anymore. Someone smashed that new aquarium I had set up just last night.

Omega: It was not me.

Shadow: I believe you, man. (Doorbell rings) And now the faker and/or his pet morons are bugging us again. I told you we should have gotten an electric fence.

Rouge: And I told you we are not tripling the electric bill to make the neighbors paranoid. I'll get it.

Shadow: Omega, hide me! (Omega suddenly throws a large blanket over him) (Muffled): This isn't any good! Quit fooling around!

Amy: Seems like you're doing that plenty(Shadow: [Startled]: Jesus!) Hi. (^ ^)

Shadow: Did You wipe your feet? I just swept the carpet. Also, what do you want?

Amy: Sonic and Tails are out for the whole day, and I'm bored. I was thinking I could hang out with you guys today.

Shadow: Don't you hang out with those rabbit girls or that overweight fisherman?

Amy: Cream and her mom are busy with their new Chao Garden...

Omega: That sounds nice.

Amy: ...and I haven't seen Big for three days.

(Meanwhile, inside the belly of a giant fish in Mystic Swamp)

Big: Don' worry, Froggy ol' buddy, I just gotta light a fire like that lil' puppet in them cartoons, and we'll be scott free! (Starts fire) It's workin'! (Belching noise, they get splashed with stomach fluids, putting out the fire) Dagnabbit!

(Back at the house)

Rouge: I'm sure he's fine. I guess we could hang out at Westopolis Plaza. There's always something to do there. Well, usually.

Shadow: Yeah, the doctor kinda wrecked the place in the Phantom Ruby war.

Omega: All the good restaurants did survive the war, as well as the movie theater.

Shadow: And the arcade! I know you want to go there.

Amy: That sounds like fun!

Rouge: Then it's settled! Let's go!

(Three hours later, at a Soleannan restaurant in Westopolis Plaza)

Rouge: So, Amy, how's that spaghetti?

Amy: This is wonderful! There's a great balance between the garlic and the parmesan.

Shadow: I've gotta say, the beef in the ravioli is exceptionally juicy and savory today. Just the way I like it.

Rouge: You should let our server know. He seemed kind of anxious for some reason.

Shadow: You mean the teenager with the buckteeth? Yeah, I've been seeing him around since Spring Burger.

Amy: I just figured you tend to intimidate people. No offence.

Shadow: None taken, and I mean it this time. By the way, what are you doing?

Amy: I'm getting ready to take a selfie of all of us.

Shadow: In the middle of lunch?

Amy: I wanna take it while there's still food. The pic wouldn't look that good with dirty plates.

Rouge: I take pride in my selfies, too, but I never pegged you as a selfie addict.

Amy: Okay, I can explain. I have entire blog posts dedicated to you guys.

Shadow: About us? Can we see?

Amy: Absolutely! 😍✨ (Passes phone without hesitation)

Cuphead Headcanons: Inkwell Hell Edition

Inkwell Hell is here! sorry i took so long.it took a lot of brainstorming. let’s get started. i’ll be doing the cupbros and npc’s in a separate post.

King Dice: Probably the most popular character in the fandom. this fancy motherfucker is better than you and he knows it. you know that guy who’s acts gay but insists he’s straight. This is the guy. he’s a master at pretty much every form of gambling, and is actually a huge board game fan. His personal favorite is monopoly since it involves gambling and risk if you play the right way. Loves loves loves any shade of purple but royal purple is his go to. Has had sex but is a little afraid of commitment. if cuphead was a tv show, this dude would be get the biggest character arc, besides maybe Cuphead and Mugman themselves. wears make-up and rocks it. slay king slay. if you need fashion or makeup advice, this is the guy to come to. you just have to give him something in return. as a human, he’d be that kind of suave black guy you can ALWAYS find in either Vegas or New Orleans. can and will charm the pants off you just for a quick payday. but don’t think he doesn’t care about some, because he does. he regularly makes sure the Devil does his work, helps translate for Pachinko, Chips, Pirouletta, and Wheezy when they get too angry and they start talking in their native language/accent gets too thick, and will stop the domino twins from fighting. does he HAVE to do these things? no. Does he do them anyway? Yes. I could go on but i think that’s enough. And yes, i think he’s trans. ICON!! BTW Pachinko is a nix’d casino boss that i really like.

The Tipsy Troop: Best of drinking buddies. The triple threat of bartending, with a knowledge to match. They are constantly drunk, but they’re brains have gotten used to the constant stream of alcohol, so they have they’re wits about them. Rum is the oldest, and has the best stories if you’ll listen. some come just to hear his tales of when he worked at a strip club, or a high-class restaurant. Whiskey is the second oldest, and has the corniest jokes. you need to vent out your problems, this is the guy. He actually got kicked out of psych school because he drank too much, so he became a bartender. Martini is the youngest, and is a little emotionless but gives the best advice. She can also spot a cheater at the craps table and will fling a fork at them to get them to stop. She has impeccable aim and can do the best tricks since she’s the only one who actually went to bartending school (is that a thing?).

Chips Bettigan: the big twink energy that is Chips Bettigan. He’s from Texas of course is has a very thick accent because of it. He’s also the youngest of all the casino the bosses, the next youngest being the domino twins, and then Martini. He is the BEST at poker and is the only person that can beat Dice at it except the Devil himself. If you don’t think this guy will ride Phear lap like a bucking bronco, you’re WRONG! He pranks everyone in the casino, even the Devil once. Then he got his ass kicked but it was “GODDAMN WORTH IT!” he’s dating Wheezy and confessed to him in what he calls his best prank ever, dousing all of the casino residents and workers with water EXCEPT Wheezy to prove he was special. His best friend/partner in crime is Mangosteen.

Mr. Wheezy: CUBAN CIGAR AND YOU WILL PRY IN FROM MY COLD, DEAD HANDS!!!!! Will just randomly go into spanish when pissed, usually at Chips, the twins, or Mangosteen. He used to at Dice but then Dice cursed in Spanish back one day and he stopped. His mustache has SO much ash in it, it needs to be cleaned one a week. Can kinda be an asshole but the dude is uber stressed because the Devil dumped all the finance work on him.

Pip and Dot: Parasitic twins. they have separate brains and have tried to tear their other half apart. the mouth between them has crazy sharp teeth. While Pip is mischievous, Dot is an absolute nuisance. She picks fights with everyone, mainly Wheezy though. 

Hopus Pocus: Crazy. like march hare, Alice in Wonderland crazy. loves kids and that’s about all i got.

Phear Lap: i haven’t the slightest. all i’ve really got is he’s greedy.

Pirouletta: Russian Roulette waifu! gimme! Very kind but strict. Coy and flirty, but can and will kick your ass Black Widow style if the need arises. Strong as all hell. has picked up King Dice and no one will let either of them live it down.

Mangosteen: No one really knows what Mangosteen does, but he works there. Gamers like Chips and Hopus like to call him Sans on occasion since he’s so mysterious. When asked about his past, he’ll tell a different story every time, each more ridiculous than the last. He, Chips, and Wheezy are all best friends, and sometimes have prank wars with each other, usually with Wheezy getting ganged up on by Mango and Chips. The only one who knows where Mango came from is the Devil, who refuses to talk. He claims that it’s to traumatic for them to hear, or it’s so eccentric they’d never believe him.

Mr. Chimes. This dude has a very limited vocabulary. all he can say is “monkey see, monkey doom”, “i am mr. chimes”, and various monkey noises. He works the slots part of the casino and is always able to beat the claw machine, no matter how difficult it is deemed by Wheezy when he tries and fails to get stuffed toy for Chips.

The Devil: The big guy himself. Very greedy and very vain, but Dice always keeps him looking right. has a very deep-seated resentment to everything related to God. Wheezy’s silver cross, gone. Chips’s bible, burned. The holy water that Rum has for some reason, dumped into the ocean. No christmas, easter, or any christian holiday. he only allows christmas because the twins, Chips, and Hopus have him puppy eyes. Can change appearance at will, but prefers to look more monstrous instead of humanoid to spite his father. 10 feet tall AT LEAST.

“It was awful!” I rambled, anxiously pacing around my living room. “Oh god, it was going so well and then it just fucking - ah!” I rubbed my hands together, my mind buzzing horribly.

“I didn’t know Hollywood Hills had business hours,” said Jack, who was sat on the couch. “Did you get a fine?”

“No, but I did have an anxiety attack,” I groaned.

“Oh no.” Jack sat up. “What did Ethan do?”

I cringed as I remembered the irrational crying and hyperventilating. God, it was so embarrassing and stupid, I was trying not to reduce myself to tears. “Nothing. He didn’t know what to do! He just rubbed my back and told me to breathe!”

“So he didn’t do anything wrong?”

I shook my head. “But it was so stupid! Everything was perfectly fine until I ruined it!”

Jack then stood up and went to me. “Hey, it’s okay. You didn’t ruin anything, and I’m sure Ethan told you the same thing.”

“Yeah, and how long will it be before he gets tired of it? How long do I have before he starts rolling his eyes at me?” I asked, knowing exactly how insane I sounded, but I couldn’t stop these thoughts from spilling out.

“You need to trust him,” Jack firmly said. “And it sounds impossible, but it’s not. It just takes time.”

I sighed. “I don’t want to be afraid of him. I don’t want to run away from him… I don’t want to be sad anymore…”

“I know. You won’t always be said, you have to know that.”

This was exhausting. How long was I going to be like this? When would I stop being such a stick in the mud? When will everything just stop?

Jack gently hugged me as I started to cry. I wanted all of this bad stuff to be over. I wanted to give up, I wanted to stop fighting. It was more tiring than just being depressed and anxious all the time. At least I know what to expect with the latter; It was easier to stay on the ground.

“No one said recovery was easy,” he told me. “You have to take the good with the bad. And you have to remember that this is only the beginning. You have plenty of time, and you have plenty of people who want to support you.”

I didn’t realize that I had said any of that out loud. I didn’t care. None of this was worth it. It was always going to be this way.

“No, it won’t,” Jack reassured. “And it’s completely worth it. You’ll have your good days and bad days. That’s how you can appreciate the good.”

He kept telling me these things as I cried Things were hard to hear. My knee-jerk reaction was finding a reason to stay in my private, comfy sinkhole of depression. In that moment, I couldn’t believe that I could get better. I was broken beyond repair.

However, once the worst of it was over, I wondered why I acted like that in the first place. Yes, Ethan and I got a stern talking-to by a Hollywood Hills security guard, but it wasn’t that big a deal. Yes, I was trying to get my shit together, I had done this before in the past. I knew from prior experience that I couldn’t just expect everything to be better overnight… as much as I wanted it to be like that.

I had forgotten how consistent you had to be when it came to communication in relationships. Ethan sent me a text a few days after the Hollywood Hills incident that made me feel kind of like an asshole.

“Hey, you’re not mad at me are you?”

Of course not. I’ve just been too exhausted and embarrassed to talk to specifically him. How does one say that without sounding crazy or rude?

“No lol I’ve just been kinda busy,” I typed before sending. Then, as an add-on, “Sorry for the silence.” Then I realized how cold and distant I sounded, so I sent some emojis following my two messages. That was three. I just triple texted.

Although, Ethan didn’t take ten years to respond this time.

“Okay, just making sure. Besides that, is everything okay?”

How can he tell? What did I say? Was I really that obvious? Was the storm cloud above my head actually visible? I was hesitating. I didn’t want to lie to him, but I didn’t want to be a burden either.

“Sometimes I’m bad at keeping in contact, even if it’s people I really like.” I sent it before I could panic.

My heart pounded as I read his reply.

“Aww… I’m the same way lol… I really like you too.”

FUCK. ABORT. RUN AWAY!

“Ay, no seas pendeja,” I mumbled to myself, catching my immediate reaction before it could spiral. “We’ve been at it for this long, we’ve already established this crap. C’mon Bella, no seas chillona.”

I sent back the monkey covering its eyes and the blue heart emojis. Then, I filmed a video to distract myself. Thankfully, I was able to be by myself again, which meant that I could film a cover while Jack was away on campus.

While I was doing my makeup, I got another text from Ethan. He was what I was doing, and I told him. Then, he asked if he could listen somehow, and I was convinced to let him in on a Skype call.

“Hey!” he greeted when his face popped up on my laptop screen.

“Hi! Don’t mind me, I’m just putting on my actual face,” I told him. “I’m nearly done.”

“Take your time,” Ethan said, resting his chin in his hands. “Work your magic.”

I took my laptop over to the bathroom and moved my products aside. Then, I continued with my routine, not really conscious of the fact that I was being watched. Strangely enough, I didn’t really mind people watching me do something I knew I was good at. Plus, I was sure Ethan would get bored of me and open another tab until I was ready to sing.

“How do you do the wing?” he asked, much to my surprise.

I paused, letting that surprised feeling pass over. “Um… I’ve had to sacrifice all my babies,” I finally answered. “I also had to summon like, five different demons with the blood of a virgin.”

“And who did you murder to get that contour?” he egged on.

I sighed as I applied highlighter to the tops of my cheekbones. “You know too much already.”

Ethan giggled. “Well, I’ll stop asking questions, Miss Makeup Artist Person Expert.”

“Yeah, stay in your lane, Mr. Gamer Person Man.”

I finished up with my makeup routine by spritzing some setting spray onto my face. For a second, I forgot I was being watched, and I had a moment of… “feelin’ myself.” I turned my head from side to side, watching my highlight catch the light. I appreciated the sharpness of my winged liner and the flawlessness of my eyebrows.

Suddenly, I heard a shutter sound and snapped out of my vain moment. I turned back to Ethan on the screen, my eyes widening.

“I’m not doin’ nothin’,” he said, feigning innocence.

“Oh god. I can only hope I look good in that screenshot,” I said timidly.

“You always look good.”

I rolled my eyes and put on my best “white girl” accent. “Aw, thanks boo!”

Then, I took my laptop back to my room. I set it down on the bed and went to get my keyboard. I stood it in front of my bed, since I didn’t have a proper bench. After, I went to grab my lights that I left in the living room.

“What are you gonna sing?” Ethan prompted.

“I’m thinking Dodie,” I replied as I went to grab my camera and tripod. “Or something else, I’m not sure.”

“Dodie,” he said. “You gotta sing Dodie.”

I hesitated as I turned on the camera and lights. “I’ve been practicing ‘When’ but I don’t know if it’s good enough.”

“Let’s hear it then. I’ll tell you if it’s good.”

It was more nervewracking knowing that Ethan was the one hearing me sing. I always needed to sing for someone before posting on my channel, but since it was going to be the guy I liked this time, I was a little nervous. I also found the song because of him, too. I could only hope I would do it justice.

Nervously, I sat down on the bed and placed my fingers on the keys. After breathing deeply, I played the first few notes of the song, but I had to start over a few times. To be honest, I was just stalling, but I got to it eventually.

“I think I’ve been telling lies, ‘cause I’ve never been in love Everyone falls for the sunshine disguise Distracted by who they’re thinking of”

The vocals were a little too soft for my liking, but the lyrics and Ethan’s persistence are what won me over. The more I sang it, the more lost I got in it.

“Am I the only one wishing life away? Never caught up in the moment, busy begging the past to stay Memories painted with much brighter ink They tell me I loved, teach me how to think”

Part of me wished for the day I would find a happy song that I could relate to.

I sighed when I finished the song. Sheepishly, I turned to Ethan, who had a huge smile on his face. He started with a slow clap.

“You’re so talented!” he exclaimed. “Ah, your voice is so nice! I love it!”

“Thanks,” I replied, blushing furiously. “That should go on my channel, then?”

“Yes! Record it and post it, like, right now,” he excitedly told me.

“Ahh, should I?”

“Do it. Do it, and… then we’ll go out after?” Ethan said the last bit slowly and softly.

Honestly, that was all it took for me to hit “record.”

This time, we went to the beach. It was cold as hell, being mid-January. But it was quiet and lacking of other people. It was also getting dark, which only made it colder. I was comfortable.

“Leggings were a bad idea,” I commented as we walked on the sand. “You’re gonna have to cut off my legs later.”

“You should’ve told me sooner,” Ethan replied. “I would’ve brought a chainsaw or something.”

We both stayed silent. Then we looked at each other and laughed. Thank god we had a similar sense of humor. It was easy to be around him.

“Hey, so,” Ethan said, changing the subject. “I… I overheard Mark saying that he was talking to you again?”

Spoke too soon.

“Uh, where did you hear that?” I asked in response.

“He was telling Tyler at the office,” Ethan explained. “I just happened to… be in the room. So, it’s true, then?”

“We’re making amends,” I told him, looking out at the distance. “It’s just that… we were friends before we dated and… we want to get over the things that happened. And, I think if I don’t try to work out these things, then I’ll wind up making the same mistakes in other relationships.”

Ethan didn’t say anything at first, which prompted me to ramble.

“I’ve known Mark for two, almost three, years,” I added. “We have a lot of history. I still want him to be my friend. A-And like I said, I don’t want my past mistakes to happen in this relationship.”

“I get it,” he finally said. “That’s good that you still wanna be friends.”

“Yeah, I probably should’ve told you sooner,” I said. “I feel like that’s something you deserve to know.”

“It’s okay. I mean, he doesn’t know about… this.” Ethan gestured between the two of us. “So I guess that’s fair.”

I wanted to ask what we are but… you know the cause by now. All I knew was that we definitely weren’t just friends.

“You wanna get food and eat in the car?” he asked after a while.

“Absolutely.”

I had the Sonic Blue colour variant for review and the other two variants are Sonic Blank and Mirror Black.

I absolutely loved the phone looks and if you like funky colours, you’re totally going to appreciate the appearance of Sonic Blue Variant. The mixture of blue and bottle green on the back panel with a smooth transition all over enhance the aesthetics of the smartphone. Although it has a polycarbonate back, it doesn’t feel cheap at all and keep the phone light as it already has a huge battery which adds to the weight.

Even when this phone packs such big battery, it doesn’t feel thick, so that’s a quietly commendable step taken by Vivo for the design of the phone. It’s a big phone and those who need bigger phones or are in the habit of using longer phone are going to love it.

There is no notch on the phone because there is an in-display camera on the top-left corner of the display. The right edge of the phone has got the power and the volume rockers, while the left edge has the SIM-tray (Dual SIM + MicroSD slot) along with a dedicated Google Assistant button. Vivo Z1 Pro packs a huge bright 6.53-inch Ultra FullView display with slim bezels. Since Z1 Pro is a gaming focussed phone, because of a bigger display, it offers great gaming as well as the multimedia experience. The display is quite bright and I didn’t face any issue in visibility under sunlight. But the biggest highlight here is the in-display selfie camera which doesn’t take up much space and sits nicely in the corner.

The viewing angles on the display were great, colours were punchy and the contrast was just right. Overall Vivo Z1 pro offers a great content viewing experience, so no matter if you watch visual content or play games, Vivo Z1 Pro has got you covered.

Great Camera for the Price

The Vivo Z1 Pro packs a triple camera setup on the back and a single 32-megapixel on the front. Now, the triple camera set up on the back consists of a 16-megapixel primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.78. Along with that, a super-wide 8-megapixel sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor are there.

The super-wide lens lets you capture shots with a different perspective providing a very large field of view, making it possible to fit a group of people in frame or capture large objects without going far away from it. The 2-megapixel camera is used only for depth sensing and it helps you capture portrait shots. The rear camera setup is also powered by AI, that makes adjustments while taking photos and there are tons of features like Night Mode, Portrait Light Effects, Live Photo, Backlight HDR, AR Stickers, Slow Motion, Time Lapse and many more other modes.

Now, in terms of camera quality, the Vivo Z1 Pro is actually a very good choice in my opinion as I tested its camera thoroughly for quite some time. I tried capturing photos in all kinds of lighting scenarios, and well it performed really well, compared to phones that cost almost the same or even costlier than the Vivo Z1 Pro.

In good lighting conditions, the Vivo Z1 Pro clicks detailed and sharp pictures, that is pleasant to view with very accurate colours and perfect saturation levels. The wide-angle camera is superb too. It holds all the details, maintains saturation level well and the photos taken with it are near perfect with no bending at the edges.

In low lighting conditions, the Vivo Z1 Pro performs fairly well, thanks to the Night Mode available on the phone. Even without using night mode I clicked a few shots, which were kinda good but lacked details. But when it turned the Night Mode on, it completely got rid of grains and washed out colours. The separation between light and dark was perfect and the shots turned out really good. The portrait mode works well on the phone with good edge detection and natural blur.

The quick settings are at the bottom, which may make sense for many, but is exactly the opposite to how it is supposed to work on any Android phone. However, Funtouch OS has got some features that you might miss on many other phones. One of them is Dark Mode, which turns all the popular apps dark.

There is the Game Cube feature, which is kinda like a Gaming assistant. It can be configured to start up as soon as a game is launched. It lets the user block incoming calls, notifications, and tweaks many other settings to get the best gaming experience.

Apart from that, I don’t see any reasons why you shouldn’t buy this phone and micro USB is sometimes still better for heavy gamers than USB-C because if you forget to carry your own cable, you may not find a USB-C cable around easily.

My last big post from 7 years ago

So to update, I'm no longer in college. In fact I've been working retail jobs here and there for a few months a year. Mostly helping out at my shop. Every time I do a job I really cannot tolerate the working environment, usually management is shit. I've been pretty unlucky in this period of my life. I've failed alot, still after 7 years I've yet to find any success.

My last post spoke about some of the friends I talked to such as Peter, Patrick Sing and maybe Sarah but I'll address it here.

I no longer speak to Peter or Sing. Lol that last big post makes it seem I lost touch with them after they screwed me over with last minutes or laziness.

With Sing she's never been good at replying and after she got into uni for her medicine degree I've never messaged her once. But I've seen some updates on her Instagram and it seems she's happy and in a relationship to boot. Good for her.

I don't know why I fell in love with her, maybe I just really admired her work ethic. It was something I did aspire to, classes with her were fun. It just could be love at first sight, I think during the first day of 2nd year seeing her in my classroom for the first time and then connecting with her, asking for her phone number and calling her. That was a big big step, something I've never done before. Maybe because of that experience I just wanted to connect with her more and in doing so I kinda just fell in love.

Peter, man it's hard to put my finger on it. A part of me still wants to connect with him like we used to since we were 2. It really sucks that a friendship of over 15 years was fucked over. I do miss talking to him, playing with him. He introduced me to so many games, it was always a blast banging out games with him each week for those years. But I guess it's one of those things, people change especially during our teenage years we drifted apart alot. It just seemed like he didn't really value our friendship anymore. I felt like I was putting in alot of effort to speak to him. Yet it wasn't reciprocated. it's funny I read a post I wrote how he came for a sleepover and he just chilled in my room for 5hrs. I wanted to play some games with him or whatnot but I guess that's when I knew our friendship went south.

At the very least though, I can look back and appreciate those years. Those years were probably why I'm still a heavy gamer today, though I've shifted to anime more.

I still speak to Sarah and Patrick.

Sarah's in a relationship with a girl called Stephanie, nice German girl. Her previous girlfriend does share similar body type so I guess that's what she likes. But it was really shitty how she broke up with her previous girlfriend. Still she seems happy though still the same old Sarah, she works at cex on minimum wage but is trying to make a field for herself in photography. I just wished she'd take it a bit more seriously sometimes. For example not procrastinating editing a client's photos. Or buying expensive equipment but not really using it much. But I'm rooting for her.

As to thoughts about Sarah, well she was like the Peter in the prime. I don't know if she considered me a best friend or a nuisance but for those few years she used to come around to my house nearly every day or every week. Despite us bring related through cousin's, having spent so much time with her online and irl it's hard not to become attached. In the end I did tell her I loved her, a part of me still loves her but not in the way I saw her. I am very thankful for those years, I never thought that I could have so much fun with a girl in all my life. I really should tell her a big thank you.

Last but not least Patrick. I speak to him more than anybody else now, but even still it's not constant. Well he does work 11hr days, so it's no surprise to find he's not able to talk much. He's been at his job for about a month now, hopefully he'll be kept on after probation and get triple salary of 30-40k. He tells me that everyone who works at the company has masters or btecs, he does software development and despite the long hours and stress I think he enjoys it. It also helps keep him more productive. Patrick's actually gone way ahead of me, he's got a girlfriend. Holy shit Patrick actually has a girlfriend. The introverted guy who was always in his shell, never took off his coat once in college or had the confidence to say hi. Such progress my dude and I'm proud of him for it. Patrick's been really into watches and collecting them so I can see him having a nice collection soon if his job goes well.

Well I've reflected quite a bit on the relationships I had with 4 of my friends, some ex friends and some are now more like acquaintances.

I think the next post I'll talk a bit more about myself, pertaining to jobs, my interests and hobbies, Jehovah, my friends Josh and Michelle.

Maybe for the first time I'll write down my sexual interests.

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus Review

This review will have all the spoilers. You’ve been warned.

It was either late 2013 or early 2014. Good times. I was messing around on Youtube one day looking at videos of the latest Batman game. Then in the recommended videos I saw something that both confused and intrigued me. The thumbnail was the iconic image of Niel Armstrong saluting the American flag he just planted on the moon. Except there were a couple differences. Twisted, terrifying differences. The American flag was replaced with the banner of Nazi Germany. And Niel was Seig Heil’ing to it. I’m pretty sure I let out an audible "what the fuck?" apon seeing this. This was the E3 trailer for Wolfenstein: The New Order. For those who don’t know, Wolfenstein is one of the oldest franchises in gaming, and put FPS games on the map. A goofy game about shooting Nazis in WWII that gave 90s gamers the chance to shoot the hell out of Mecha-Hitler. Think of it as a prototype to the more infamous Doom series that would launch shorty after. The New Order was a modern-day reboot with some ambitious questions. The biggest one being "what if they won instead?" The New Order takes you to an alternate 1960 where the Nazis beat the allied forces to the nuke (among other advanced tech) and thus took over the world. It was grim. It was campy. It was subtle. It was loud. It was dumb. And it was also much smarter and more engaging than anyone would’ve thought. So it went on to be a smash hit in 2014, and one of my favorite games ever. A few months ago to the day this is being posted, Bethesda stopped by E3 and showed the world it was sequel time, showing off Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus (Actually like the 3rd or 5th in the series) to the world. The next day I preordered the hell out of it. Was it worth it? Well after 10 days of tearing through it, lemme tell you.

So I’ll start off with things I didn’t like, get the negativity out of the way. It’s not a big list but I think what on it is valid. In The New Order, which I shall now abbreviate as TNO, in nearly all sections you could either go in fast and loud, putting holes in everything that moves with dual automatic shotguns and a big laser cannon. Or you could be a bit more stealthy about things, sneaking through vents and corridors putting knives in throats and taking care of problematic enemies from afar with a suppressed pistol (which might I mention was one of the things I loved about the TNO; keeping the pistol relevant and not just a forgettable starter weapon like most shooters). It was all about personal play style, but both options were viable. In The New Colossus, which I shall now abbreviate as TNC, going in loud was the way I always went because it seemed more viable. And I always went stealth in TNO. I probably just need to learn the areas, but there was some problems I ran into. Like this game being dark. Not story wise (even though it is) but literally. I remember alot of areas meant to be stealth-able lacking in the lighting department, and I set my brightness at the recommended settings, too. Anytime I’d get caught it’d be from and enemy that I couldn’t see. And that leads to another problem. In TNO, enemies stuck out in the maps. Even if they were dully-colored humaniods coming in plentiful shades of gray you’d still spot them from across the area. It was probably due to both TNO being brighter and the enemies having a wide design variety. Not so much in the TNC. There’s less design variety here and they all seem to just blend into the background alot. Even the brightly-colored HAZMAT and Venus space troopers don’t pop in anything less than Glamour Magazine photo booth. On top of that those two previously mentioned troopers, while being obvious separate models apon inspection, honestly just look like classic Mortal Kombat-esque palette swaps. Again, TNO had alot of variety in their designs. Which is why it was a shame there was no proper model viewer in TNO, and why it’s straight-up bullshit their isn’t one in TNC. One of my favorite bits of last year’s DOOM (another Id games classic updated for the modern world) was a model viewer that let you get an up-close look at the game’s monsters and weapons. The Batman: Arkham games have had it for years. Hell, I remember having them back in 2005 with Jak III. Why can’t Wolfenstein, with their toybox of greatly-designed characters, weapons and assets have it? Or a photo mode, too? I’m not insane about graphics in games, but I still appreciate them with how incredible they are today, and TNC is no exception. It’s a beautiful game. Let me appreciate it to the fullest extent possible. Honestly these days model viewers and photo modes are something all games should have with how far graphics have gone. If only bosses got the same advancement. TNO had a few that aren’t Psycho Mantis or Big Baby Bowser levels, but they were fun nonetheless. DOOM’s bosses were one of the highlights for me. TNC has none of those. Here and then there’s an enemy that can act as a sort-of miniboss, but their’s nothing big and climactic like TNO’s showdown with the towering London Monitor, or the final showdown with the main antagonist, General Deathshead. The "final boss" of TNC is more of a gauntlet than anything. 3 pairs of Supersoldiers, a higher-powered but still common enemy assisted by a shitload of standard infantry, finished off by 2 "Zerstörers", which are basically super versions of the Supersoldiers (I call them "Super-duper Soliders"). The main antagonist of the game, General Engel, goes down with one melee attack, only vainly defending herself with a pistol. An outdated pistol by both the game’s and IRL standards. In a game where mechs, actual Avengers Helicarriers and boimechanically-enhanced mutants are possible, you’d expect so much more. Especially with Hitler himself making an appearance. I was really looking forward to a modern-day Mecha-Hitler. Not sure if I’d want bosses to worry about though since something as simple as getting your weapons out can be a pain. In TNO you could dual wield nearly every weapon in the game, but you could only dual wield two of the same gun. In TNC dual wield returns, for every weapon you can carry, and you can interchange between them. And while it has it’s uses for sure, it feels kinda clunky, not to mention slow. TNC takes it’s sweet time letting you change your weapons which can be fatal, especially since this game carries over a problem TNO had in that you’re not exactly warned when your current ammo’s about to run dry and you’re gonna get lit up while changing a clip.

Now to the good, which I assure you outweighs the bad. Lemme start by saying that the gunplay feels as fantastic as before. Every gun has kick and you feel it whenever you see a Nazi get turned to mush by your triple-barreled automatic rotary shotgun. Yes, that’s a thing in this game. As is a pistol-sized grenade launcher. And sticky-bomb launcher. And an OP-as hell laser cannon that atomizes people and metal covers/doors alike. And all of these can be powered-up through upgrades. The Shotgun can be upgraded to have ricochet rounds to deal even more damage. The pistol can have a suppressor so it stays useful like it did in TNO. The Assault Rifle can have both a scope and armor piercing rounds making it able to down mechanical enemies in one shot. And the laser cannon. Oh god the Laser cannon. Called the LaserkraftWerk in the game, it’s by far the best weapon you’ll get, even before upgrades. One shot will destroy even more armored infantry, but when you upgrade it so the blast can be charged, ooooooohhh. One charged blast will down Super soldiers with ease, and even on higher difficulties the powerful Zerstörer units I mentioned earlier will fall with a few good shots. Combo this with an extended battery doubling your already-decent ammo pool, And you’re unstoppable. I guess that leads to another issue. While every gun has their uses and you’ll likely use every one at one point, like DOOM before it you’ll probably cruise along primary’ing 2 guns. For me it was the Shotgun and Laserkraftwerk. But even then they weren’t the weapons I used the most. It was the heavy weapons. In TNO there was a Heavy MG you’d find here and there. It was powerful, sure, but could only be picked up and not carried in your inventory, and slowed you down considerably. You couldn’t sprint and crouching reduced you to a snail’s pace, and interacting with anything would make you drop it. In TNC there’s 4 types of heavy weapons and they’re awesome. They still slow you down but nowhere near the TNO’s. You CAN interact with stuff and you can even sprint with them. Doesn’t sound like much but believe me, that makes a world of difference. Another thing that gives you an edge in combat is the contraptions. There’s 3 in total; The Ram Shackles, which allow you to bash through both weak walls and enemies alike, the Constrictor Harness, which allows you to sneak around in tight spaces, and the Battle Walker, my favorite, which is just some goddamn stilts. They let you get to higher places so its not anywhere as useless as it sounds, but also has perks, like the other contraptions. You’ll be able to tank explosions without falling over, make enemies freeze n terror at the sight of you, and even keep your overcharged health from going down, my favorite. Speaking of health, one thing that makes the newer Wolfenstein and Doom games is the lack of regenerating health. You have to find health and armor in the levels, and this returns in TNC. One addition though is instead of having to pick up stuff manually, walking over health and armor pieces will make you pick it up automatically, though manually picking them up like before is still an option. It admitting needs refinement but it works well enough. It’s nice after a firefight were I took a beating, I remember where a health pack or some armor was, I run to that location, and I already have some extra heath/armor on me when I get there from the bits that was lying around. While I did say that their isn’t much variety in the enemie’s designs, the designs that are there are good, and carry over that retrofuturistic asthetic I loved so much about TNO. My favorites are either the Ubersoldat, with is basically a Nazi T-800, or the previously-mentioned Zerstörer. Enemy behavior is much better in this game too. In TNO during a stealth section if an enemy ran into a dead body, they’d just move along like something happened. In TNC, enemies are much more sharp. Anything louder and light sniffle they’re hear and investigate, and if they find a dead body they go into high alert and start hunting for you. The levels are incredible too, truly feeling and looking like a 1960s America under Nazi control. The level layouts in this game are kinda funny. In TNO a new level was an entirely new location. In TNC, multiple levels are across one location. This is due to the levels being so much more vast than TNO if anything. My favorite level is either the Nazi base on Venus (the actual planet), or Manhattan, which was directly hit by a Nazi nuke in WWII and is now a desolate, irradiated wasteland. You could feel how thick and cancerous the air is, and the devastated buildings have their upper skeletons eerily bent and curled from the blast. Fallout fans will have a bit of deja vu going through it. All these locales help guide the story along, which like TNO before it is a standout part of the game. TNC takes place right after TNO more or less, after the main character, BJ Blazcowiz, is mortally injured in his big battle with General Deathshead. You’re saved by your resistance buddies before they nuke the place, but you’re still messed up. After 5 months in a coma, the game finally starts. With you shooting Nazis on a U-boat you captured previously in a wheelchair. For half the game the only reason you’re able fight again is thanks to a power suit wired to BJ’s brain. Even while you’re fighting BJ’s injuries are taking their toll. By his own estimate, he has weeks. Which is tragic to think about since in TNO, he met Anya Oliwa, a nurse who took care of him during a prior comatose, and eventual lover. By the time TNC rolls around, she’s heavily pregnant with BJ’s twins. Not being their for his kids is something BJ laments a few times, and you feel for him. Especially when you learn about his awful childhood at the beginning of the game. He deserves a good family, and it sucks he’ll never get that. And for a bit it really seemed like that he wouldn’t since midway through the game, BJ’s betrayed by his abusive, racist, Nazi-loving father who make his childhood such a shitshow, and is captured by Nazi forces. After a few weeks of parading "Terror Billy" The most horrible terrorist the world has ever seen according to the Nazi propaganda machine, BJ is executed in front of the Nazified Lincoln memorial to an audience of millions. Beheaded, it really seems like the game took a grim turn. Luckily due to the quick work of his aforementioned buddies in the resistance and some advanced tech, BJ is saved, if head slapped onto a new super soldier body. This brings up something that some reviewers had an issue with. TNC goes through a tone shift in story midway through the game. It starts out very grim and foreboding. Your base was attacked, the leader of the resistance is murdered right in front of you, America seems like it’s perfectly fine living under the Nazi’s boot, BJ is crippled and basically expecting death, and his unborn kids seem like they won’t have a dad. Even in gameplay things feel grim at first. Even with the power suit giving double armor you can’t escaped the halved health. You really feel like you’re playing a crippled character. BJ himself puts it out there pretty good. "I take it off, I’m afraid I’ll fall apart and all the pieces won’t fit back together again." Then he loses that body and gains one that can actually move on it’s own power and then some. BJ is basically reborn. stronger than ever. It makes sense that the game would kick up to a more upbeat tone. You’re a new man, more powerful than ever before. This can be done. You can save the world. This upbeat attitude peaks at the birthday party scene. Just before the final assault, it turns out it’s BJs birthday, so what do you and your resistance buddies do? Party like theirs no tomorrow, because for all they know there might not be. If their’s one thing I like in a story it’s reminding me that the character I’m playing and the characters around them are people, and not by just showing me their trauma and flaws. Every character in Wolfenstein already has those in spades. I’m more for seeing them having fun. Being happy. Enjoying eachother’s company. Take me out of the misery for once and remind me that their’s something good in the world. Not to say seeing smiles on their faces is what made them good characters. Every major character is pretty good in this game. Grace Walker, The new resistance leader and black revolutionary front member is pretty much a female Samuel L. Jackson. General Engel, The game’s antagonist, is the perfect villain in that you want nothing more but to see her get what’s coming to her. Super Spesh, Grace’s husband and crackpot alien conspiracy theorist, gives some good comic relief for the time he’s around. And Anya. Fucking Anya. Loyal, smart, and considering the crazy shit she does while carrying twins in her, may be more badass than BJ himself. And even with the grim beginnings don’t think this game takes itself too seriously. In one level, right after BJ monologues to himself about his imminent mortality, he (and us) get a first glimpse at the Nazi’s rocket-powered train system. Something he immediately responds to with basically "what the fuck?". After nuking the Nazi high command in fucking Roswell, BJ escapes on what’s pretty much the monocycle from Men In Black. Before BJ’s head is slapped onto his new body, it’s dropped in a jar like Futurama. That Venus level I mentioned earlier? You get there on a Nazi flying saucer. And again, stilts. One of your upgrades is big, stompy stilts.

Overall out of all the recent iD software games to hit the scene lately, I’d say DOOM is my favorite. But I’ll give it to The New Colossus. With a few bumps here and their it’s just as fun to play as it’s predecessor, and improves in most areas. Overall, yes, it’s a step up from The New Order, and if you want a fun, absurd shooter with a good story to tell, look no further,
