I feel like tumblr should be bigger fans of The Blues Brothers. It's a movie that has everything we value as a community. Attention and respect to pioneering black musicians, open hostility to nazis, open defiance to police, Carrie Fisher with a rocket launcher and flamethrower, a soundtrack that goes hard as hell, John Belushi so blasted on cocaine that he continues to do somersaults despite having a broken ankle. It's got it all!

Having Jumba replace the role as the villain instead of Gantu and removing all the depth and nuance of his character is honestly one of the worst things ANY of these remakes have ever done (aside from completely ruining the whole message of the film)
Yes, Jumba was a mad scientist but he was anything BUT evil in original film. He was chaotic, egotistical, and at times completely insane yes but he also showed moments of humanity and genuine remorse like when Nani asked where Lilo was after she was captured. I'd even argue that him deciding to help Stitch in the climax so easily is actually pretty in character of him. He wasn't really an evil person, he was chaotic but had a good heart deep down
As the series went on he became more humble and even he and Pleakley became sort of father figures to both Stitch and Lilo. Hell in the second film, we see just how desperate he became when Stitch's begins malfunctioning to the point where his life is at risk. That moment in the end where they all think Stitch had died and Jumba takes him out of the chamber and he just hugs him is legit one of my favorite moments in the entire series. The whole second movie showed just how much Jumba truly cares for Stitch and considers him and the others as family. Also his and Pleakley's dynamic being one of the best parts of the original with how well they bounced off each other (we stan for the gay alien uncles here)
But in the remake it's genuinely uncomfortable and gross just how far it goes out of it's way to make Jumba as irredeemable as possible. I'm sorry but the Jumba we all know and love would NEVER intentionally burn the pictures of Lilo and Nani's parents, the only things they have left of their parents so happily, and he would NEVER treat Stitch so horribly to the point where he tries to stright up erase his empathy. Yes in the original film, he and Stitch's fight in Lilo's house caused it to blow up but that was completely by accident on BOTH of their parts, they weren't actively trying to blow it up on purpose. Even when he was trying to capture Stitch at no point did Jumba actively tried to hurt Lilo (aside from just gently pushing her away when she was hitting him with the broom during the fight) hell one of his most iconic lines "THIS IS LOW EVEN FOR YOU!" Is said when he realizes that Stitch is basically using Lilo as a shield
Also before someone says it yes, I'm well aware of the alternate deleted scene of Jumba attacking Lilo's house where he's a lot more violent and sociopathic. But 1. It was cut and re-edited so the original cut of the scene isn't really canon. And 2. The reason why it was removed was not only was it considered too violent, but it made both Stitch and ESPECIALLY Jumba too unlikeable and irredeemable. Jumba and Pleakley were always intended to help out in the climax, so having Jumba be redeemed despite how he was more than willing to straight-up shoot Lilo during the house attack didn't sit right. Jumba was NEVER intended to be as cruel as Gantu, but they decided to make him EVEN CRUELER than most modern Disney villains in this remake
Removing all of Jumba's nuances and making him a mustache-twirling bad guy so you can force him to take Gantu's place isn't just character assassination, it's complete character annihilation. It's easily up there as one of the worst examples of character assassination I've seen since Velma. Also I think it's REALLY suspicious that they removed an antagonist who was a bad cop and was fired for his repeated brutal methods and putting innocent people in danger, made the SCIENTIST the main villain to the point where they made him more of a monster then the cop
I'm sorry for the multiple posts on this film and if I come across as more angry then I usually do, but I'm just so appalled with how much they bastardised one of my favorite films of all time, as well as one of my favorite characters in said film. I'm at least glad that everyone seems to agree that this film is a pile of garbage

His love language is Quality Time
I feel like he’d be big into conversation
Doesn’t matter about what this man just likes to yap
If you are also talkative the two of you annoy the fuck out of everyone else because do you two ever stop talking??
But even if you’re quieter, he will talk enough for the both of you
Likes to watch movies and shows with you!!
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Byakuya Togami
His love language is Giving Gifts
He wouldn't be that affectionate of a person side from this I fear
Plus he always brushes it off if you ask
But he was thinking about you!! <3
He’ll legit buy anything that reminds him of you or he thinks you may enjoy
Man is made of money ofc he’s gonna spoil you while also acting like he hates you
Just how he is I’m afraid

˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Chihiro Fujisaki
His love language is Quality Time
I feel like he’d be very much into baking with you
Idk man feels like a baker
Also, he’d be the best person to talk to about your interests because he will listen and do his best to remember every detail!!
Do the same for him!!
May or may not install Alter Ego on one of your devices so you can spend time with them while he isn’t around

If you like a game or anime…be prepared
He will buy you just so much merch
Figures, posters, shirts, hoodies, plushies, everything
If you’re especially fond of a specific character he will draw them for you!!
Maybe even write a short Doujinshi with a favorite ship of yours if he has the time
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Kiyotaka Ishimaru
His love language is Acts of Service
He wants to be the Prime Minister, of course, he likes to help!
Like, I don’t know, I just have this thought like…
He’d so help you study, and like clean up your room for you
Also, I feel like if you have long hair he’d definitely brush it for you in the mornings
Maybe that’s just wishful thinking though idk
But also if you do something for him to lighten his workload??
He might cry, just sayin'
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Leon Kuwata
His love language is Physical Touch
I just know this man desperately needs to touch everyone around him all the time (no I’m not projecting hush)
Like, he’s always touching someone, like an arm around his friend's shoulder or playfully ruffling someone’s hair
He’s just that kinda guy
He’d also for sure put his arm around your waist or shoulder whenever you’re around
Also, he’d probably grab your face occasionally to just squish your cheeks and tease you
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Mondo Owada
His love language is Acts of Service
He’s a big strong man!! Of course he’s gonna do everything he can for his partner!!
No, but for real, he will do anything you ask of him AND MORE
He’s just a big softie!! And a gentleman!!
Opens doors for you, pulls your seat out for you, if you two are close enough will let you wear his jacket if you get cold
Especially if you're a girl!!
Diya raised him right!!
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Yasuhiro Hagakure
His love language is Physical Touch
Ok, this one is probably gonna be short cause I do not know a whole lot about this man
I feel like he’d be laid back about it, like with Leon
He’s just a touchy person, even with his friends
So expect him to just grab you and pull you into a hug, or ruffle your hair, stuff like that
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Aoi Asahina
Her love language is Physical Touch
You cannot convince me she wouldn’t always greet you with a hug
Like I just know she’s always touching you in some way
Holding hands, or her arm around your waist or shoulder
Even if you two are for some reason not touching, she’d still be incredibly close to you
If you let her she will just stand behind you and rest her chin on your shoulder
She does not care who’s around!! She wants to cuddle you she will do so!!
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Celestia Ludenberg
Her love language is Giving Gifts
Celestia has made a whole lotta money from gambling, so you cannot tell me she wouldn’t spoil you.
You and her cat ofc, can’t forget about Grand Bois Chéri Ludenberg
Also, I’m split between thinking that every gift would be accompanied by a grand gesture, and thinking it wouldn’t be uncommon to just find wrapped gifts on your desk or something
She’s probably very nonchalant with giving gifts (most of the time) but if you get her anything unprompted?
She melts
Like it doesn’t matter if it's expensive or not, it's just the fact that you're giving it to her that makes her go kinda mushy
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Junko Enoshima
Her love language is Acts of Service
But like…in a very strange and roundabout way
Like even without the despair, she’s still…Junko, ya know?
She’ll trip people who are rude to you, help you cheat on homework, forge documents for you
Ya know, normal bestie things!!
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Kyoko Kirigiri
Her love language is Quality Time
I mean, it seems obvious, doesn’t it?
I think she wouldn’t want to push conversation, just being together is enough for her
She’d like to go on walks or drink tea together
A lot of long comfortable silences with her that’s for sure
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Mukuro Ikusaba
Her love language is Physical Touch
I feel like this is less about affection and more about wanting to keep you safe though
Like, she’d wanna be near you just in case someone (Junko) tries to hurt you.
Which opens up a lot of opportunities to touch you!!
She’d probably be kinda shy/indifferent to it at first, but after a while, she softens up and allows hugs and such
Would have her hand on the small of your back nearly at all times
Also is the kind to pull you out of danger/away from dangerous people
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Sakura Ogami
Her love language is Quality Time
Drink tea with this girl RIGHT NOW!!
She’d definitely want like an hour of just uninterrupted time with you every day
Also feel like she’d be big into taking long walks with you, maybe at night or when the sun is setting idk idk
Also very much feel as if she’d want you to work out with her
But if you don’t work out, she may or may not bench press you sorry
Or like have you sit on her back while she does push-ups
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Sayaka Maizono
Her love language is Giving Gifts
Girlie makes a ton of money, she is SPOILING you!!
Buying you outfits, jewelry, expensive makeup, cute plushies!! Anything you want!
Would probably try and take you out on a shopping spree but doesn’t wanna be interrupted by fans
But she would give you her card and tell you to go crazy!! Maybe idk
If you give her a gift? Especially if it’s something you made?? Girl is melting.
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Toko Fukawa
Her love language is Acts of Service
She does stuff for you, but always vehemently denies it
Helps you clean up your room, just to say she was just looking for something
Or makes you food and just says she made too much
If you're someone who tends to overwork yourself, she’ll stay near you while she writes to make sure you take breaks and eat and drink water and whatnot
Which probably also helps her to remember to do those things!!
Win-win scenario!!
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡⟢Genocider Syo
Her love language is Physical Touch
Tries to make out with you in public
Will also grope you without warning
Sorry but if you want her to stop you gonna have to do something about it
However, even with all that she can also be really sweet at times
I feel like she’d thrive on cuddles
Even if she does feel you up while doing so

Creator Spotlight: @jdebbiel
Deb JJ Lee is a non-binary Korean artist based in Brooklyn, NY. They have appeared in the New Yorker, New York Times, NPR, Google, Radiolab, and more. Their award-winning graphic memoir, IN LIMBO, about mental illness and difficult relationships with trauma, released in March 2023 from First Second.
Below is our interview with Deb!
Have you ever had an art block? If so, how did you overcome it?
That implies I am over my art block, but I’m still in it! I think about Kiki’s Delivery Service a lot and how she had to stop doing a thing, and that you can’t really force it, and you have to let it come back to you. It’s a pretty humbling moment, realizing there is more to life than just drawing. I’ve been trying to consume other content like reading or watching movies—anything that is not drawing-related—and to trust that it will come back to me. I think not being afraid to do the small pieces before committing to the big pieces is helpful. Because big pieces are what I am known for, I dig myself into a deeper hole, thinking that each piece has to be bigger than the last one. So yeah! Relaxing and doing the small things before overcommitting to a big piece is the best way to go about it for me.
Which 3 famous artists (dead or alive) would you invite to your dinner party?
I feel like these are all artists that I have second-degree connections with! Jillian Tamaki, Victo Ngai, and Tillie Walden would be my picks!
What are your file name conventions?
…What file name conventions? I mean, I don’t have specific file name conventions, but I actually have a public Google Drive archive! But I usually put “djjl_whatever-the-title-is_final,” and I would always know it’s the final and legit version.
What is a recent creative project that you are proud of?
I did an illustration for the whiskey brand Johnnie Walker. It’s so wild because I only had four days to finish it, and it usually takes me a week and a half if I rush. And honestly, it’s probably one of my best pieces from this year, which is funny. It was for the Mid-Autumn festival, so I made it as Korean as possible.
How has technology changed the way you approach your work?
I only use my iPad to draw everything now, and if I want to pretend that I have a steady workstation, I’ll use my Cintiq. I still am not as comfortable on the Cintiq as I am on Procreate, but it’s still pretty solid and nice. That’s the good part about technology. The bad part about technology is how AI art has been messing things up for me. I’m currently in a lawsuit about AI art as a class rep. Some of my stuff got turned into AI art late last year, so I have to give a deposition at some point.
What is a convention experience that has stuck with you?
Honestly, they’re all good! I feel like Lightbox Expo has been really nice because it’s truly been a convention for artists. I feel like that’s where most of my audience is, and they’re all around because their purpose is to be better at art. That’s where a lot of original artists do well because they’re getting art they’re inspired by, not so much fanart. I like the Lightbox Expo because it encompasses the pure love of art very well.
Top tips on setting up an Artist Alley booth?
Use a Y axis, not just your X axis! Take advantage of it! Branding is also something to think about. It is definitely something I’m getting better at. Having an assistant is also very important. I’ve also heard that 8.5x11 to 12x18 inches is usually a good size for prints, but I also provide postcard-sized prints because sometimes people don’t want to commit to a larger size.
Who on Tumblr inspires you and why?
You know this is so funny. I’ve been following @alicexz for over a decade on Tumblr and other platforms. I’ve followed her work since high school, and we’ve only recently become peers. I found her, and we met for the first time in real life, and she recognized me. And then I found all my drawings from when I was in my Alice phase, back in high school, and I was like, “Yo, this is when I was trying to be you so badly!” and she was cracking up and was like “Wow, this is so good!” It was such a sweet moment. I wanted to take a picture of her holding my drawing up. It’s really nice because now we’re peers.
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing, Deb! Be sure to check out their Tumblr blog over at @jdebbiel.

APPRECIATION POST FOR MY DARLINGS
Tumblr media
┗ @shintaru
Genuinely, I love your fics so much. When I hopped on WB fandom on Tumblr, I was reading your fics and headcanons first. Plus you have really creative ideas and I love reading them so much! Whether it's assigning perfumes to WB characters, pocky challenge, hand sizes and even basing your fics on movies! I love it so much that I can't even describe. I love discussing about characters with you as well, and I'm glad we share our undying love for Sabbath(〃゚3゚〃) I still remember when I read your Sabbath dating headcanons. I think that was the first post I've read from your blog and then more and more!! Don't get me started on cuddling headcanons, truly adorable! What did I do to deserve reading such masterpiece!? Your comfort hcs with Sabbath are one of my favorites, it's genuinely so accurate and I love it so much. I was reading it when I needed comfort myself and it actually lighten up my mood! So I want you to know that your fic helped me so much. And your pocky challenge fics with Wooin and Hyuk(。>‿‿<。 )I still reread them from time to time, I genuinely love it so much! Glad you made that silly guy quit eating too much sweets because he'd have diabetes at that point! But even better, the candies being replaced by reader's kisses like oh my god it's so cute I'm truly going to explode ヾ(*´∀`*)ノ It was genuinely so well written, I legit fell in love with your fanfic. I loved it so much and I just have to let you know how much potential you have to write absolutely amazing masterpieces! If you'll decide to write the fic again, pls tag me, I'm gonna read it and eat it up♡

I was wondering if you had any favorite DC comics you could recommend?
I'm planning to get the comic subscription thing they have, for like a month or two and bing a bunch of stuff.
I haven't actually read many comics, I've seen some of the movies, scrolled the wiki and read tons of fanfic, but that's it.
So I figured I could kind of "catch up" on some of it, mostly so I can enjoy more fanfic 🤣 but there is literally Soo much out there and idk where to start
disclaimer: these options are going to be VERY heavily weighted towards the nineties/early 2k's, given that is when I read the vast, VAST majority of the DC comics that I have read. also effectively all of them are YJ-related or Supers-related, because those were what made an impression on me and I remember almost nothing of any other DC comics I was reading at the time.
also DEF we need a cut:
Superboy (1994) - I did not read most of the first fifty issues, I only know bits and pieces about those, but I picked it up at issue fifty and became ride-or-die for it 'til it got cancelled like fifty issues later, and while I originally read it as a teenager, it is one of the only big two comics I can say I really remember a LOT of the plot points and art and details from. Like, I was also reading Robin and several other comics at the time and I remember effectively nothing of a good eighty percent of those, despite the fact that Tim was actually my favorite character at the time. But SB94 you get to meet hot furries and go to Hypertime and get emotionally manipulated by Superman when he MIGHT be being mind-controlled, I was never entirely clear on that one and I don't know if Kon ever found out either, and also it's where Match debuted AND contains Serling Roquette, the definitely autistic teen-genius geneticist of my HEART. And Earth!Krypto, the worst/best dog ever, who is Superboy's it's-on-sight-bitch nemesis. Legit I think the dog hates him more than Match does. And Kon DEFINITELY hates the dog more than he hates Match. Match at least had a theoretical chance at making a good impression; Krypto did NOT.
Supergirl (1996) - The first superhero comic I ever read, and in fact the first issue of it was the second comic I ever bought in my entire-ass life up until that point, hah. The cover is literally my current icon, that cover just stuck out SO strongly to teenage!me that I just picked it up and went into it cold. It's honestly a very weird and somewhat hit-or-miss comic, it has the Space Girls and demonic cultist murders and at-least-technically-abusive parents that you still want to talk to as an adult and a lot of "okay so this writer has some very weird ideas about race/sexuality/religion/genetic determinism" and fucked-up shit like lying to vulnerable people about their potential to BE people so they MAYBE don't accidentally murder you and Mae/Linda being the same person but actually not the same person and also falling for a dude who is a horse but only breaking it off with him because THEY'RE not a lesbian, no I am not kidding, and also God is a recurring character. And Buzz. Buzz is there. Buzz is . . . a whole experience, there. Also there's flan, one time. The flan is kinda weird.
Young Justice (1998) - one of the VERY few comics I have read the entire run of and followed from first to last issue. I love it very much, hah. Just--it's great, it's so good, and also the girls in it DO stuff. Some of that stuff being girlbossing and going to the Olympics and fighting preschoolers with knives and not getting to fight super-hot furry babes and subverting government agencies and getting LITERALLY dressed to kill to go do a murder! Twice, in fact!! Technically that outfit gets dressed-to-kill in TWICE, there is canonically a "this is what we wear to do the murders" fit in this series!!
and relatedly, some tie-in events involving that era of YJ:
Young Justice: The Secret, which is a one-shot from the GirlFrenzy fifth-week event and is the first appearance of Secret, who I ADORED as a teenager and still have a soft spot for. Also the first time Robin, Superboy, and Impulse all work together at the same time, iirc, though I belieeeeeve they'd all worked together in different pairs at that point?
World's Finest #3 was the first time Robin and Superboy met and worked together; Impulse and Superboy I think met during Superboy and the Ravers, and I know Impulse and Tim met at SOME point but hell if I know when.
World Without Grownups ( takes place prior to YJ98; literally every adult on the planet disappears overnight and that is specifically Robin and Superboy and Impulse's problem, apparently. also Billy Batson is around and reasonably concerned about what'll happen if he turns into Captain Marvel--also known as, you know, an adult, when they are not sure about the alive-ness of any of those right now!! )
Sins of Youth ( takes place during YJ98, I think between issues 19 and 20; Justice League and YJ get age-swapped and everyone has to deal with that, and honestly most of them suck at it )
World Without Young Justice ( takes place near the end of YJ98's run, I think? reality-altering bullshit related to "World Without Grownups" occurs and I BELIEVE crosses over between multiple series )
Comics I have not read but heard were good and have been personally WANTING to read:
Death of Superman/Reign of the Supermen - technically two separate arcs, but I believe they both happened across all four then-running Superman titles; established Steel and Superboy as characters before they got their own solos and included in-her-dating-Lex-Luthor-era Matrix!Supergirl and like . . . all that that implies, basically. In her defense, she didn't know he was THAT Lex Luthor. Less in her defense, I think Lex literally sent her to like, recruit Superboy into a throuple with them and she was apparently all for the idea, it REALLY did kinda read like that.
Impulse (1995) - Impulse and Max Mercury are having a very complicated relationship in this and also the line "haven't you ever felt that way about anyone? hasn't anybody ever felt that way about YOU?" happens. So like, I feel like that's enough explanation of why I want to read it, really? Also the supporting cast is supposed to be pretty solid and I really dig a lot of the art I've seen from it. First appearances of both Cissie's version of Arrowette and Inertia happen in it, iirc.
Also like, I cannot justifiably RECOMMEND either of these because I kinda frickin' hate what I've read of them, but Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day and the subsequent 2003 Teen Titans run contain a lot of the foundational lore that Young Justice runs on these days, including the retcon about Kon's DNA donors and Tim's "I lie to Batman" line and a writer who apparently for the life of him CANNOT write either teenage girls or neurodivergent people and like . . . everything about weird fucked-up grief responses/cloning/culting shit. It just also WILDLY slanders multiple team members, especially Cassie and Bart, and frankly it doesn't really do that great by Tim or Kon either and I do not wanna TALK about what--ANYWAY IT HAS LORE, just the actual characterization kinda all sucks and the art in TT03 was not at ALL my thing, not in the least because of how Cassie's design got SO unforgivably bad AND out of character, ughhhhh.

CONTINUATION OF CH.40
I ran out of space, so here's all the fanart i got recently ❤️❤️😩😩😩😩
from Rizzlord (@v4mpn11on tumblr)
Tumblr media
AHHHHH this piece still has me floored every time I look at it 😭✨ the details??? The shading??? Her EYES??? You captured something so powerful and grounded in her expression—I can see the weariness and strength all at once. And don't even get me started on the hair and those intricate floral clasps on her shoulders?? Like HELLO??? You really snapped with the texture there 😩
I legit saved this straight to my computer the moment I got it. Thank you sm again! She looks like she walked straight out of a manga panel and I'm obsessed 😭❤️
from gab137507
Tumblr media
AHHHH-----the symbolism is so perfect 😭😭😭 The way you drew MC's expression—so hollow and calm, almost resigned—it's haunting in the best way. I love how each hand has a story to tell without even needing words. I already went a lil coo-coo in your commnt section of how much i loved/thought each one represented so i'm not gonna bore everyone with it here (may repaste in the comments) but yeah, I just—ugh, it''s so stimulating seeing the strings of all these interactions MC has to navigate drawn to life like this. You nailed the entire pressure of her role in a single, quiet image. Thank you so much again❤️‍🔥
from Acheron
ACHERON???? Be serious. Be so serious. This is actual cinema. The way the light frames him—no, devours him—like a halo and a wildfire all at once??? The motion, the tilt of his head, the drama in that silhouette... it's unhinged in the most divine, tragic way. I'm staring at this like it's an actual animated movie still 😭🔥This is Apollo's tantrum. This is grief-split-open-and-turned-solar. You nailed the energy of Ch.39 without showing anything explicitly, and that's what makes it hit even harder. Like how am I supposed to emotionally recover from this?? 😭❤️‍🔥 Thank you endlessly for this masterpiece.
from DragonWhiskers12
Tumblr media
DO NOT EVER APOLOGIZE FOR HOW YOU EXECUTE YOUR ART—like ever. It's the intent, the design, the final result that hits—and this??? This hit me like a meteor from Olympus. I'm OBSESSED with your interpretation of Apollo 😭 the eerie elegance, the chaotic divinity, the multiple eyes??? That's godhood. That's prophecy. That's ✨trauma✨. I'm so in love with this vision I'm be using in another fic i have coming up😭😭🙏🏾 thank you for sharing this with me, truly.
Tumblr media
PLEASE. Don't even apologize for the camera quality or anything about this—do you know how golden this page is??? The way I had to squint and then suddenly BURST OUT LAUGHING??? The "No more sun until I get my wife back" Apollo design coming back with extra eyeballs and those reaction doodles of the Olympians??? ICONIC 😭 Like no because the vibe of this whole thing?? Raw sketch energy, chaotic divine commentary, a masterpiece journal page of doom... I'm saving this to my personal shrine of chaos. It feels like something I'd find tucked in the library of Delphi on a scroll titled "Signs That the Sun God is Spiraling" 😭💀
from iconic-idiot-con
Tumblr media
OH MY GODDDD I GASPED—THE WAY YOU CAPTURED HERMES' SMUG LITTLE CHARM??? The wink?? The pose?? The delivery??? 😭😭 This entire scene looks like it was yanked straight out of a visual novel and I would pay real currency to read it. Also the way you illustrated MC with such softness in that panel?? Ugh. You get her. You get them. And I am currently sobbing over the fact that this exists in my lil arts folder 🥹💌🪽 Thank you SO much.
Tumblr media
STOP—YOU'RE TELLING ME I GET A WHOLE CHARACTER LINEUP??? A WHOLE CAST SHEET??? This is like opening the bonus content at the end of a deluxe edition graphic novel and just sinking into the lore. First off—Hermes??? ICONIC. The exact chaotic-neutral energy. His smirk?? Unmatched. Apollo is serving radiant golden retriever in the best possible way, and I love how you made him look just slightly off-kilter, like there's something behind that smile (which is so him). Also HELEN?? She's giving effortlessly smug and I know she knows it. Odysseus' sadness is in his shoulders. That's storytelling. His "sad, wet, pathetic puppet man" energy literally LEAPS off the page. Penelope looks tired but gorgeous, which is exactly what I envisioned. Telemachus looks like he just got done internally monologuing about duty and also how pretty the MC is. I'm obsessed. And finally, MC?? Soft, grounded, radiant. Just there. And still effortlessly magnetic. I'm sobbing. Truly—thank you for this. It's beyond perfect. Your brain has 100% divine blessing status now.
Tumblr media
SHUT UP—Hermes Bird with the lil satchel and cloak?! I'm LOSING it. And MC?? The blank expression? The visible cuts and wraps? That side-eye like she just survived divine nonsense and still has errands to run? Peak characterization. She looks like she's just recovered from a gods-given concussion and is about to commit arson in retaliation. I don't care if it's "unfinished," it's got more energy and story in it than most completed pieces. Post the rest whenever you want—I'm eating this up sketchy or not and WILL be giving the same enthusiasm once done cuz YESSS!

Sigh... I'm so embarrassed but I was wondering if you could write oc(self insert) x canon for me? Please! Not forced at all but my heart yearns for me x pete so much...my sona is named dan and he's an evil prick...he likes movies, sports, and anything "typically manly" and edgy..he and pete get along because they're both vulgar and loud.
Maybe a late night hangout cause they got kicked out of a convenience store for being nuisances. YOU DON'T HAVE TO OF COURSE I'm just brain dumping! .. dan revealll... Tysm even if you just read this ! Your writing is awesome and I adore ur work! 🍀🩷
Tumblr media
Cause I’m Kind of Like Han Solo, Always Stroking My Own Wookie
Tumblr media
Summary: Pete and Dan’s nightly shenanigans while trying to see a rerun of “Reanimator”
Word Count: 1.1K
TW/CW: None
A/N: Again, so sorry this took forever! I really enjoyed writing these two’s banter! Hope you enjoy!
Reblogs are appreciated!
When people think of late nights at Eltingville, it’s usually just a quiet and peaceful night. Even with the loud mouth, “I’m walkin’ over here” type of life that plague the streets are all of a sudden silent. Maybe they were watching a movie with the family, silently eating dinner or even simply just going to sleep.
…not at the local 7-11. The clerk just had enough. From the moment these two teens came into the store, it was nothing but chaos. Pete was already “subtly” putting licorice into his pocket, while Danny was pouring down the cherry slushy into his refillable cup. It didn’t even occur to him that he would have to pay for the concoction. Instead, he was more focused on just filling the damn thing!
“ENOUGH!”
His shouting caught the two teens' attention, but it barely stopped them. In fact, he could see Dan just barely slowing down the handle, while Pete just stared at him with his beady eyes.
“…Just get out of my store AND STAY OUT!”
The door slammed open and out came Pete and Dan like a barrel of bricks. Pete just let out an annoyed grunt. “Man, can’t even get a good pack of candy without being ripped into.”
“Well, it was your fault.” Dan grunted. He dusted off whatever crumbs were left behind on his clothing.
“MY FAULT?! It was YA idea to get the goodies at the 7-11, and now look! We have about 20 minutes to get to the last showing of ‘Re-Animator’”!
“YEAH, well…you should’ve stopped me!”
“You legit brought the biggest water bottle you got so the both of us could share!”
“Yeah, and it was genius. Maybe if you didn’t start stealing the licorice-“
“That was the best plan, yet! Besides, at least we’re not going to be chewing on the world’s hardest laffy taffy known to mankind.”
“UGH! I know! I think the last time that stupid place was ever cleaned, ‘The Night of The Living Dead’ was still playing!”
With a chuckle, Danny picked himself up and started to walk towards the destination.
“HEY! WAIT UP!” Pete screeched.
With that, the two were set off to the local theatre. They were a weird doer to the outsider. Pete was a short, buzzed cut teen with a bad attitude. His attitude poisoned everything he touched, even with the media he loved. On the other hand, Danny was a tall and stocky guy who wasn’t afraid of roughhousing and absolutely plummeting those who deserved it.
In all honesty, in an ideal world, that person would be Pete. Both of their quick tongues often got them in trouble, particularly with authority figures. It was like whenever an adult was around to lecture them, something turned off inside their brain and immediately jumped onto the defense.
However, it was probably that attitude that made them like the weirdest yin and yang. Such harsh tongues whipping each other with whatever comebacks the other had come up with.
Even now, while they slowly walked to their destination, you could feel the tension brewing between them. Though, this wasn’t a bad sort of tension, oh no. In fact, one could say it was comfortable. Yeah. They were used to this type of inevitable outburst.
Especially now.
“Why did you want me to come see ‘Reanimator' re-release? Don’t ch’a have your other nerdy friends to take you?” Dan asked. That asked Pete to look up at him before scoffing.
“Well, yeah, but ya know how it is. Bill’s focus on trying to brigade his household, Josh’s too busy organizin’ his stupid sci-fi collection, and Jerry…well, he’s just being Jerry.”
“Ah…so, one’s a tyrant, the other’s losin’ his mind, and the final one’s annoying. Figures.”
“Hey!” Pete chuckled, “Ya know, there’s a difference between being right and being nice, right?”
“Still. Knowin’ the difference doesn’t mean I still can’t point it out!”
Another laughing fit, this time from the both of them. Dan was close to wheezing, to the point where he even had to stop walking for a second to catch his breath.
“C’mon! I wasn’t that funny!” Pete protested, but the way his cheeks tried turning that frown upside down told another story.
“Yeah, that was a pretty fuckin’ lame joke. I was just laughing at my genius joke!” Dan shot back.
“Ya know, if I wanted to see you fail at comedy, I would’ve just walked over to ya ma’a house!”
“I do that all the time with ya daddy!”
By the time they made it to the movie theatre, all that left was to pull out the wallet and-
“SHIT!”
$6.50. That’s $3 short for a second ticket.
“Now look what ya done! Ain’t know why I’m draggin’ myself back home in defeat! Unless-“
“NO, DAN! Last time we did that, my clothes stink for a week. My ma forced me to wear my brother’s hand me downs for a-“
The start of a monologue didn’t stop Dan from climbing on top of Pete’s shoulders and boosting himself into the second floor of the theatre.
“…I TOLD YA ONCE-“
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. I know. Now, come up here before the security guards come snooping around.”
GROAN! Pete walked over to the large dumpster in the back. In it was stale popcorn, expedited candy and thrown out pretzels. Unfortunately, that also was the highest boost he could get before having to take the jump of faith for his life.
Still, Reanimator wasn’t going to start without him. So, with the god of horror on his side, Pete boosted himself up to the window and crashed his way in.
“Woah!, didn’t expect ya to actually do it!” Danny chuckled.
That laugh. God that stupid laugh. Pete had heard it a million times, but it still got him red face and blushing (internally). It’s like ever since he started to hang out with Dan, he could feel himself getting more drawn to him. Like, sure, Dan was his complete opposite in hobbies and looks, and sure, the only form of communication that has is pure, unadulterated screaming…
…but that’s what also draws Pete in. Never has he met someone who could make him feel comfortable for being loud, obnoxious. It’s like Danny knows him so wholly and entirely, and he doesn’t want to let that go.
In fact, he wants to savor it. To keep it close to him until the day he dies. This sort of bond was only really shown in someone like Morticia and Gomez, but still, could those two really compare to what Pete craves with Dan?
“Pete?”
Snapped back to reality. Pete saw Dan holding onto a large popcorn and two medium sodas.
“It looks like you’ve just seen a fuckin’ ghost!” Dan chuckled.
“The only ghost here is ya, the way I’m goin’ to smoke ya ass to the seats first!” Pete counteracted.
The staff watch the two teens rushing towards the last showing of “Reanimator”, completely enjoying the loud energy of the other company.

Doomstrange headcanons! Go!
Tumblr media
Gods, how can I ever refrain myself and not write a whole book? /hj
Usually I'd go with "which era" but since there's no specification, I'll just... write for each one of them *evil laughter*
T&T era:
- Since it's canon Stephen spent 45 days in Latveria, let's just say that at first Victor intended to keep things as professional as possible, but soon he realized Stephen has excellent taste in things: books, movies, plays. It's the common ground they were able to find since they don't seem to agree with their respective politics and philosophies. Stephen also tasted legit the best wines in the whole world and adored the local cuisine inspired by Victor's mom's romani heritage. They certainly had dates, although none of them are aware those were in fact dates.
- Stephen is friends with Boris and still sends him cards and letters.
- I know Stephen is a genius but he couldn't learn a whole new language in just a few weeks. I like to think that he kept learning Latverian after T&T (also canon that he's fluent).
- Stephen would also befriend Kristoff if he were part of the story. I do believe T&T is set after Kristoff's adoption. Chronology a bit iffy due to the whole mantle and trial, but let's keep it that way.
- Canonically, they both can play the piano. And they did play together a few nights. (*jumps off a cliff*)
- Victor is jealous of Silver Surfer, Adam Warlock and Clea during the Infinity Gauntlet arc because he never knew Stephen was so loved by the hero community.
- Stephen vouched for Victor every time a hero brought up his evil side.
- Victor never sought the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme before Blood Hunt because he trusted Stephen at being the best magic user capable of carrying the burden. He never agreed to Stephen's methods, but at least he respects the man. (I like to think that he hesitated when the opportunity happened because he didn't want to break Stephen's trust, although his need for power and approval spoke louder in his heart)
Secret Wars era (in which I'll go insane):
- Victor allowed Stephen to decide whether or not to take the power of the Beyonders first because he trusted Stephen more than he could admit. Or maybe he knew Stephen deeply enough to know he would decline. In any case, for a single moment, Victor put his hunger for power aside and trusted Stephen's judgment.
- This is why Stephen became his sheriff, though. They built Battleworld together and treasured their creation. And no one was bold enough to go against Victor's temper but Stephen.
- Stephen knew Victor's marriage with Sue was a lavender one so he wasn't bothered by it. Moreover, there were RUMORS by the Thors here and there, to which Stephen remained silent. It's not like they'd say that to GOD EMPEROR DOOM's face, after all.
- I think it's here that they started calling each other by the first name. Which gave a sense of humanity to Victor since he was considered a god by the whole world, except for his friend. And, although it was important for Victor to be seen as a human by a single person, it also made him torn because he was expected to be perfect. By the people, of course, but mostly by himself.
- Victor has never forgiven himself for what he did to Stephen. He will never admit it but he became kinder to him because of it, and also he's afraid Stephen will learn about it one day (delicious angst potential nom nom nom).
Infamous Iron Man era:
- Like, I know it's canon that they have each other's numbers but they made calls often during IIM because well, magic shenanigans and Victor was really committed to proving himself to the world. So what's better than having the Sorcerer Supreme at your side to vouch for you? (gay ppl real)
- They grew closer during this time.
- Stephen tried to visit Victor after he was scarred by The Hood, but was turned down every single time (*cries*).
Post-DODS:
- Stephen can definitely sees Victor's face behind his mask. In addition, I absolutely adore this headcanon that Stephen's hand scars match Victor's, especially when he cups his face (*dies*).
- Savage Avengers wanting me to believe Stephen had a fling with Elektra when in fact it was Victor all along. They both showing vulnerability to each other was PEAK, especially when it comes to Victor, a man who literally won't scream of pain while dying the worst death possible out of pride. (*banging my head on the wall*)
- If not that night after their first fight against Kulan Gath, then definitely after the post-victory banquet.
- Their divorce era started when Victor didn't show up to Stephen's funeral/helped him with the murder case. I like to think that he didn't have the guts to attend the funeral because it would remind him of Secret Wars. Although the mantle was his by right, he was also jealous of Clea.
AND MY MOST CURRENT HEADCANON
I have no idea what Ryan North will do BUT it's a fact that Victor is holding a piece of Stephen's soul. And if this fact alone doesn't entail a whole crisis of conscience or doesn't affect Victor in any meaningful way... I will have to fix that with fanfic. I'm just waiting to read the whole event and adapt canon like I usually do with my fics, but I NEED THAT ADDRESSED!! *slams table*
--
Ok, ok, definitely left some hcs out because I forgor/memory issues. But I hope you liked those the same way I adored that you dropped this ask for me. So a hundred million "thank you" from the bottom of my heart and soul 🥹💜
PS: I didn't want to write couple headcanons BUT if you want them, don't hesitate to send another ask 👀
I'm so normal about them....

Ten Things I LIKED About Season 11!
Okay, that post I made last night about season 11 was, at times, pretty negative. I don't always enjoy being like that, so instead of focusing on the bad, I figured I'd talk about some of the good! No sarcasm, no hate... just positive (paw-sitive?) vibes in this post!
A lot of these are in no particular order, by the way. They're more or less listed as I remembered them. 😄
Tumblr media
1 - Sending Off the Old Animation with A Boom(er)!
Again, the last two Rescue Wheels episodes, despite looking like they belong in season 10, are officially listed under season 11! They're also the last to use the old animation.
And, for my money, it was a fine sendoff! Rescue Wheels: Pups Save a Runaway Truck is, in my opinion, one of the best episodes in a long time! For starters, they brought in a new writer for this one, and he really knew how to bring in some genuine humor to the mix! Boomer, himself was also legit great here, which further cemented him as another one of my favorite pups in PAW Patrol. The mission, itself was also quite good, and it gave me my dream team of Chase and Marshall, so bonus points there!
Overall, it's a fun episode, and a fine goodbye to the animation that stuck with us for over ten years.
And now, one of my favorite exchanges from the segment;
Danny: I'm sure you've got a big monster truck stunt to do! Boomer: Uh, yeah, biggest stunt, ever. Danny: I bet it's something X-treme! Like, a big jump! Oh, over the draw bridge! OOH, WITH FIREWORKS!! Boomer: Uh... yeah. It's... definitely all that. And more! Danny: No way! Can I watch?? Boomer: Are you kidding? Bring your camera and live stream it so everyone else can watch, too. Danny: Good idea! Boomer: [to Frankie].........we're gonna need fireworks, fast.
Tumblr media
2 - An Air Rescue Fire Emergency!
As I've mentioned before, fires were more or less banned in the TV series for the longest time. Sure, we saw relatively harmless ones, like camp fires, but what about uncontrolled fires? We got one in season 1, and we didn't get another until season 10! Whether we have the theatrical movies to thank for that or something else entirely, I'm just glad the ban has finally been lifted! After all, it lead to Fire Rescue being a thing!
Before that subseries hit, however, we got even more fires in "Air Rescue - Pups Save A Rocket-Powered Pogo Stick". Depending on who you ask, it's arguably the best episode of Air Rescue! Fun mission, actual stakes, and even the ground crew got to help out! It was good, and it let us know that fires are here to say, and we won't just see them in Ultimate Fire Rescues.
Tumblr media
3 - Zuma and Hurricane Harrigan
It's not too often we get an episode that involves Zuma at the center of the plot. It's even rarer still when Hurricane Harrigan shows up. In all honesty, the two are practically made for each other! Thus, when this segment popped up, I think most of us enjoyed it due to that aspect, alone! No doubt many of us want this team-up to happen again... soon, we hope!
Tumblr media
4 - Marshall and Everest are... PENGUINS??
Okay, this looks so weird... and I love it. It's silly moments like this I tend to appreciate, since it's the pups just goofing off and having pure fun. I think I can speak for most of us when I say that, when the pups are having a good time, we, the viewers, will likely have one, too!
Tumblr media
5 - Hey, Humdinger was Pretty Funny Here!
"Hum-Patrol to the Rescue" was, much to my surprise, a fun episode! What's even more surprising? Mayor Humdinger was legit good in it! And funny! Despite how often he shows up, and how often a lot of us tend to get tired of seeing him involved in the plot, I must admit, I still like the character, and it's segments like this that remind me of why. When done right, Mayor Humdinger can be quite entertaining, and this is certainly proof of that.
I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I even enjoyed him breaking the fourth wall in this one. Hey, as much as I still like Marshall's wipeouts, even I get a chuckle out of Mayor Humdinger questioning whether he actually does this every time or not. 😄
Tumblr media
6 - A Forgotten Gag, Brought Back!
Naturally, because of how much I love Marshall, I tend to take notice when certain things about him disappear. His EMT Gear being absent (again) is a good example. Strangely, Marshall's gag of falling down his firetruck ladder was another thing that just seemed to vanish over time. Admittedly, I never fully understood why.
Much to my surprise, season 11 brought it back! Twice, in fact! And hey, both were rather good and got a chuckle out of me. Personally, as long as no one gets hurt, it doesn't happen too often, and it's done in pure humor, I'll always enjoy it. I just love his "I'm good!" after it happens. 😄
Tumblr media
7 - Robo-Arrby
Okay, how can you not like this?? "Pups Save the Baddies", from what I've noticed, tends to be a personal favorite for some fans, and no doubt Arrby is one reason why. In fact, even I must admit that, when this pup shows up, it's almost always worth it! That's certainly true here, too. Although his time in the segment was brief, it's certainly one most of us won't forget!
...And yes, everyone fell for his disguise, if only for a brief time. I guess Arrby's just that good at what he does! 😅
Tumblr media
8 - More Handicapped Representation
When done right, representation can be a great thing. We got our first handicapped character in season 7, when Rex joined up with the pups to help them out in the Dino Wilds. Although his back legs can't function, it didn't stop him from still being a major asset to the team. A handful of seasons later, we finally got another handicapped character. This time, it's a human named Lizzy, and she's the owner of Adventure Bay's new lemonade stand. As you can see, she's missing her left hand, but the cartoon makes it clear that such a thing won't stop her from doing what she wants to do in life.
I'm not handicapped myself, so I'm not the best person to talk about this sort of thing. However, I have to imagine something like this can be inspiring, at least to some degree, to viewers... especially any child who might be handicapped and can relate to this, in some way or another. That, alone, can be powerful. What's just another character to me, might mean the world to someone else.
Tumblr media
9 - The Many Cute Moments from the Pups!
Okay, in all fairness, every season gives us cute moments... but hey, I still wanted to give it a shout out, anyway! And one that jumps out to me right away, outside of Marshall and Everest acting like penguins, was the wipeout from "Fire Rescue: Pups Save a Baby Goat's Birthday". During the chaos, Marshall got some cake icing on his face, and it formed a monocle, a mustache, and top hat. A little crazy, and perhaps forced, but dang, did it ever get a chuckle out of me. I know some believe Marshall's wipeouts aren't as good as they used to be, but I'd argue they still manage to deliver every now and then, and this one's no exception! Welcome back, Dapper Marshall! 😆
Tumblr media
10 - Last, and Hopefully Not Least... Fire Rescue!
Despite what others might say, I still profess that Fire Rescue is a highlight of season 11. Regardless of its flaws, for my money, there's still plenty to like here! Seeing the clumsy yet fully capable Marshall lead the team, the great-looking vehicles and outfits (I'll admit, I like that they made Marshall's outfit brown, like an actual fireman's outfit), the cartoon continuing to feature fires, among other things. It may not be the best subseries, but hey, it doesn't have to be! Despite its shortcomings, I still thought it was fun! I enjoyed my time with it, and I'd love to see it again... perhaps someday soon, I hope!
Incidentally, while the final episode of season 11 didn't involve Fire Rescue, we could still see the new fire station in the background at one point. I like this! It lets us know that, just because it's not in use, the cartoon's not going to forget about it. It assures me that we very likely will go back to it, someday ! Nice, nice!
Tumblr media
Honorable Mention - THIS GREATNESS
Although Marshall's my favorite pup in the cartoon, and hands-down one of my all-time favorite animated characters, I'll happily admit that Chase is pretty high up on my list of favorite PAW Patrol characters, too. As far as I'm concerned, he's the man, and he'll always be great in my books. Besides, he's the reason I first started watching PAW Patrol, so I gotta love 'em. And, naturally, I really like the friendship he and Marshall share, and I especially love it when the cartoon allows them to hang out and, of course, work together. It's my dream team, as I often mention... a lot, no doubt.
And, as you can imagine, when one of the Fire Rescue episodes gave us this moment, the two side-by-side like this... oh yeah, a big ol' thumbs up from me! Hey, say what you will about the episode, or even about me, but I'll never get tired of this. 🤩

OH COME ON
btw I found a reddit post that sums up my issues with this change perfectly
The issues with Movie Peach: A comparison of portrayals
Ok so I know it’s been literal months since the Mario Movie came out but I’m still a bit salty about the way Peach was portrayed in it, and honestly the more I think about it the more I find flaws in this “adaptation”, and I need to get it all out, hoping talking about it here will help me stop thinking about this shit and finally get over it. If you enjoyed her movie portrayal, good for you and feel free to ignore this post. For the others, here are the things that bother me about it.
(Very long post ahead! A bit over 11k words. It’s "cut" in several parts to make it easier to follow. I also made a Google docs version in case it’s easier to read. Tl;Dr under the cut because Tumblr does weird things due to the length otherwise)
Tl;Dr: Outside of a few personality traits that are the same but expressed differently, which is an issue all main characters in this movie have when compared to their game selves, the main issues with Movie Peach are her body language and the fact they removed the overly kind nature, more or less pacifist nature, wit and softness she has in the games and instead made her confrontational, a competent physical fighter and overly-confident, all of which make her OOC when compared to the games. This is especially insulting given the way Illuminations seems to look down on Games Peach and consider what they did with her in the movie to be an improvement, when Peach’s main issue in the games isn’t her personality but her lack of screentime to make said personality shine.
Setting a few things straight before we start, just to make sure we’re on the same page here:
1. No, it’s not about the pants. While an argument could be made about Peach only wearing pants in outfits that require it (adventurer and farmer in Odyssey, some events in Olympics, Strikers, swordfighter and Kung Fu in Showtime, biker in Kart, her cap/snow/moon outfit in Odyssey and detective in Showtime do have pants in a setting where it’s not necessary but both also give her a long jacket, making it look like she’s wearing more of a dress with long stockings rather than actual pants, same for Olympics ice skating) ultimately there’s absolutely nothing wrong with her wearing pants. Heck, one of her scraped Odyssey outfits has her wearing jeans, and it’s one of her best outfits! Also Showtime might have more outfits with pants that will make this argument null (I mean the concept art for Odyssey kinda already does with the jeans). All this to say, the people who claim Peach was “ruined” because she’s *looks at smudged writing* “wearing a biker outfit on a bike” need to chill tf out.
2. There’s also nothing wrong with the fact she can parkour. In all the games she’s playable, Peach can keep up with Mario without any issue (she does have a slower walking speed in Super Paper and 3D World but it honestly barely matters, and it makes sense given she has a dress). Plus, the movie establishes that she was raised here, so it’s normal for her to have the abilities needed to get around. Now I do take issue with her body language in the training scene (more on that later) and the mention that she first-tried it (I like when characters struggle and grow rather than getting everything right first-hand) but both of those things are unrelated to her platforming abilities. So if you see little to no mention of her being great at it later in the post, it’s because that’s not something I consider out of character for her.
3. I am beyond excited for Princess Peach Showtime. From what we’ve seen so far, this game perfectly encapsulates what makes Peach who she is, and I am so happy that she’s getting her own game again!!! As for the swordfighter and Kung Fu outfits, it’s mentioned later on in the post but yeah it absolutely works with her game personality. Again, the issue isn’t with the outfits, or in that case with some specific abilities that work with what we know of her, the issue is with the personality that goes with it.
4. While the post will likely give the opposite impression, in no way do I consider myself some sort of expert on Peach’s character. This is a character that was created 15 years before I was even born, and I have no rights whatsoever to dictate what Nintendo can or can’t do with their own characters or how they choose to portray them. It’s just that she’s a character I absolutely adored as a kid and, while I’m not sure if she’s currently my favorite Mario character (hesitating between her and Bowser), I’m still incredibly attached to that character and her potential, hence why I care so much. But by the end of the day, I’m just some random weirdo over-analyzing a character from a kid-oriented piece of media.
5. I have no issues with the strong female character archetype, or at least none outside of the common grievance of “stop giving us boring planks of wood with amazing natural abilities and instead give us great characters who happen to kick ass and be badass!”. In fact, was this movie a completely original piece with characters unrelated to Mario, I’d probably enjoy Peach’s character. My issue in this specific case is that this movie is meant as a faithful adaptation of a specific franchise, so you’d expect all the characters to be in character. And while all main characters have some traits that are missing or not exactly the same as their game counterparts (I could make a short post about it if anybody asks), it still works very well for what Illuminations was going for and they’re still recognizable. Peach is the only exception where her character feels very butchered. There’s also the issue that it feels like Illuminations looks down on Peach’s game portrayal and wrote her this way with a desire to “fix” her, when there’s nothing wrong with her in-game personality. More on that later. But yeah, it does feel insulting if they do look down on her game character.
(Also I know this is a whole other discussion but I’m really not a big fan of the way everytime a new female character is created she needs to be called like “girlboss”, “damsel”, “Marie Sue” etc. Can’t a female character just exist without being put in a box, like male characters do (obviously I’m talking outside of fandoms, I know men are put in boxes around here)? Also can’t sweet female characters, strong female characters and anything in-between just exist without people arguing over which ones are “better”? Just let women be women. And while I do understand the issue with how many movies do nothing with their women outside of making them the love interest, which is an issue, by that point we have so much diverse female rep that we should be able to write characters the way we want without having to compensate for the shitty portrayals. You want your female characters to be likable or great role models? Just make them interesting. Give them goals, an arc, interesting relationships, things they’re good at and things they struggle at. And if you want them to be soft and kind and raise a family? Go ahead! You want them to be badass as hell and kill without a sweat instead? Go ahead!
Also last thing about it but I find it pretty crazy how Disney specifically struggles so much nowadays with female characters in live-action. I mean Disney Animations Studios gave is tons of great women, both protagonists and antagonists, all with different personalities (Snow White is childlike and naive, Cinderella refuses to let her situation take her down and remains kind to those “below” her, Ariel is curious and passionate, Jasmine is stubborn and independent, Esmeralda is incredibly selfless while still having no issue standing up for herself, Megara is cynical and sharp, Tiana is determined and hard-working, Mulan is very smart and loves her father so much she’s willing to die protecting him, Rapunzel is spunky and has a natural talent to bring people together, Elsa is shy and introverted, Anna is impulsive and empathetic, Mirabel is probably the most relatable Disney protagonist, the list goes on), heck the Disney Princesses is their most popular brand that they didn’t buy out from the competition, and yet when you look at the remakes and the superheroes movies, they give us the blandest characters, whose “empowerment” messages are the most nothing thing when compared to the original animated movies. Mulan especially is a ridiculously good example of that given how fantastic the message of the original movie was in terms of female empowerment.)
Now, with all that out of the way, let’s get into why I dislike Movie Peach when compared to Games Peach:
1. The two biggest issues with Movie Peach
Starting with one of my two biggest issues but also the shortest to explain: her body language. To go over it quickly, just watch her scenes in the movie while focusing on her body language, mannerisms and facial expressions, and then go to her scenes in the Mario + Rabbids games along with the trailers for Princess Peach Showtime and do the same thing. You’ll quickly notice that Rabbids and Showtime have a very similar Peach, while the Movie gives a completely different vibe. In fact, on body language alone, they come off as two completely different characters.
Now there are small moments where her body language in the Movie works as Peach, such as her reactions when Mario is training or when she’s watching the fight between him and DK (at least when the camera isn’t fully focused on her for that second case). But overall, she’s still very different from the games.
To give more precise examples, notice the way Movie Peach always looks very confident when she’s about to start a fight. In comparison, the first teaser for Showtime opens up with Peach and Stella going on stage, and Peach comes off as someone who isn’t sure if she can do it but is willing to try her absolute best. Basically when I look at Movie Peach her face says “Alright, let’s do this >: )” while Peach in the first Showtime trailer has a face that says “Alright, I can do this”, if that makes more sense.
Then there’s also things like in the first Rabbids games with Peach showing up to the fight floating with her parasol Marry Poppins style. And upon being about to land, Mario extends a hand to help her even though she doesn’t need it, which kind of reminds me of the ending of Super Princess Peach where Mario is the one in distress yet Peach is the one getting carried bridal style by him because that’s just the kind of person she is. I just can’t picture Movie Peach doing the same.
Btw funny thing but while I disagree with the people claiming that Movie Peach is basically Daisy, since Daisy is very aloof about her role as ruler while Movie Peach takes it incredibly seriously, I do believe that Movie Peach’s body language would fit Daisy very well.
I guess it’s also worth mentioning how different her voice sounds in the movie? But then again I watched it in french and only saw some english-dubbed scenes through video reactions, and I can’t say I really care about the og dub enough to take a good listen. That being said, I’m not the biggest fan of her french voice when you compare it to what Peach sounds like (I do think the voice actress did a great job though, regardless of whether or not she sounds like Peach). And looking at trailers in different languages, the German version I believe has a much higher-pitched voice and it does feel a lot more like what Peach sounds like.
Second biggest issue is how great she is in combat and that’s the biggest one for me. Not only did they remove some of Peach’s traits (which we’ll get to in a moment) but they added something that is extremely out of character for her.
In the movie, Peach is a fantastic fighter, especially with hand-to-hand combat. She drop-kicks Mario, would have probably won against DK no problem had she accepted the duel, does a great job defending herself in the Rainbow Road scene, is very quick and agile when confronting Bowser at the wedding, and was single-handedly winning against a whole army, probably would have won had she not gotten distracted. She’s also clearly aware of those abilities, very often smiling during those fights, showing tons of confidence in her abilities.
On top of that, she’s very confrontational. She hears of Bowser being a menace and immediately wants to go to war. When a stranger gets a bit too close for comfort, she attacks. When encouraging her Toads before leaving, her posture when she gets interrupted shows a desire to fight. When they meet the first Kong and he glares at her, she immediately glares back. She also takes a fighting stance when he roars at them. When Bowser approaches, she’s willing to take him out all by herself and later on starts the battle at the altar. All-in-all, fighting is her first solution to pretty much every problem.
Peach in the games, however, is very different. If you look at her relationship with fighting throughout the series, three things will arise:
1. Peach doesn’t like fighting and only does so if there’s no other choice. In Mario 3D Land, she fights back against a pile of Goombas but looks incredibly uncomfortable doing so. In what we’ve seen of Showtime, she cowers when Stella uses her magic on her hair and then looks confused about having to be the hero for a second there.
In Smash Bros Brawl, the one cutscene where she truly shines has her stopping fights left and right and trying to befriend everyone while letting Sheik protect her if needed; she doesn’t even take a fighting stance when Mr. Game and Watch attacks (at least in the cutscene compilation I saw, could have been a glitch where her animation didn’t trigger considering she’s dusting her dress off instead, which looks like an idle animation; note that I haven’t played this game). Btw it’s both very funny and pretty embarrassing for the Movie writers that a fighting game of all things understood Peach’s dislike over fighting better than they did. On that note, this one Ultimate trailer with no music that got memed a lot features Peach and Zelda surrounded by a gust of wind, and while Zelda looks ready to fight, Peach instead gasps and looks at the wind, completely dropping her guard and forgetting about the whole “having to fight” thing.
Then there’s the Mario and Luigi series where she sends the twins to fight her battles, the first Rabbids game where you meet her very early on yet she only becomes playable much later in the game, plus in both Rabbids games she’s a support character whose role is to protect the others (of course she still has an attack like everyone else; also I’m in no way saying that a support character is “lesser”, it’s an essential role in making sure the hard-hitters use their turns to attack rather than heal).
In Paper Mario 64 she also doesn’t fight directly and in the last boss uses her wishes to strengthen Twink, playing support. Even in the Super Mario Adventures Comic, outside of dropkicking on the Koopalings, she never fights directly. When going back to the tower, she threatens to blow it up but doesn’t do anything when Wendy calls her bluff. There’s literally only one panel during the “getting the keys” fight in which she’s visible, and she’s in the background running around and looking surprised!
Oh yeah and while I might be wrong as I’ve only seen it in like, 2 cutscenes, Peach in the Rabbids games doesn’t seem to have a fighting stance, at least outside of cutscenes. So you know how the characters have some small animations, like “thinking” stances or “happy/cheering” stances or “sad” stances, you know the ones? Well in at least two scenes, while everyone is taking a fighting stance, Peach is standing with her mouth open in surprise. I know one of these moments is in the Last Spark Hunter DLC but I couldn’t tell you which is the other cutscene. I’m not even actually sure if it’s true for a second one but also for some reason I remember seeing it at least twice. 🤔 Btw random fun fact but Bowser also doesn’t have a cheering stance, at least not in this DLC.
I also know incredibly little of Super Mario RPG but doesn’t she use magic in this game, and is again the supporting character meant to heal the others?
Also also not sure if this matters much since other characters like Daisy do it too, but in Super Mario Party, and possibly other party games (?), during the minigames that require punching other people, she pushes them instead. You can see she doesn’t use her fist but her palms instead.
Lastly, because it does need to be brought up, yes Peach jumps on enemies without any hesitation in the platformers she’s playable in. This is basically the main reason why I called Peach “more or less pacifist” in the Tl;Dr. And honestly, the only counterargument I can give is the fact that those aren’t really fights, at least outside of bosses. You’re just kind of hopping on enemies’ heads and then they disappear. But in games that are more focused on the fight itself like the RPGs or the Smash cutscenes, Peach tends to either be less comfortable with fighting or have more of a supporting role.
Now, I could also point out how the vast majority of platformers Peach is playable in are co-op games (Bros 2 USA, 3D World, Super Paper, Wonder), and the stories of those games imply the whole group is going on an adventure together, meaning it’s possible Peach does less fighting and more exploring for example, leaving Mario and Luigi to do most of the fighting. And while this is an idea I like to explore in fics, I don’t want to diminish Peach’s abilities here. Plus Super Princess Peach and Showtime prove that she doesn’t hesitate when on her own.
And yes I know the real reason why she doesn’t hesitate in the platformers is because people want to be able to play as her and it’d be stupid to have a character who doesn’t have the basic abilities literally every character has, so it has less to do with her personality and more to do with gameplay. The RPGs on the other hand assign different abilities and roles to different characters, so they can make Peach the healer/support as a means to make her an active character while keeping her personality intact. Still, for the sake of argument and to avoid being a hypocrite, I consider the platformers as proof that she can fight directly when she needs to, with the RPGs and Smash cutscenes showing that this might not be her preferred choice.
All this to say, Peach is not much of a fighter. If she can prevent a fight, she will choose the more peaceful option. She’d also rather have other people fight instead of her or play support for them. But if it all comes down to it, she will fight. She’d rather not, but she will if needed.
2. Peach doesn’t know how to fight. Now this might be a flimsier argument but bear with me here. Basically, the first time I thought of this was due to the 86 anime and Adventures Comic, both of which have her defend herself using furniture, which does give the impression that she doesn’t know how to fight so she does the second best thing: throwing heavy shit to at least do some damage.
But even with those aside, Peach is definitely one to use unusual weapons. In Super Princess Peach and a few other games, she fights with a parasol. Her gun in Rabbids 2 is even shaped like a parasol. In Super Mario RPG, from what I’ve heard/seen, she uses a frying pan. And while I don’t know her Smash moveset, looking at her character descriptions from the wiki, the Smash games keep mentioning her using said frying pan along with turnips, her parasol, sports gear and Toad as a shield, with her hand-to-hand combat being her kicking while in the air. I also know what her final smash sort of looks like with the way the screen changes to look like a Peach-themed frame (and I think I remember hearing that peaches fall off the sky but don’t quote me on that).
She also uses magic, mostly star/wish-related magic, which seems to be healing magic for the most part? On that note, her specials in the sport games tend to be heart-shaped. And while it’s definitely undermined by the swordfighter and Kung Fu outfits, her main means to defend herself in Showtime is a ribbon. And who knows, maybe we’ll get some other wacky ways to attack in other transformations?
So yeah, overall, Peach doesn’t seem like someone who knows how to fight. She just holds onto an object that she’s comfortable with and wacks people with it. In a way, it goes with what’s said in the previous part. In platforming games, she jumps on enemies just like everybody else. But when it comes to more hand-related combat, Showtime is seemingly the first time where she’s getting some abilities on that front.
Now, there is the argument that Showtime is all a play, meaning her abilities are her playing a role. But I do think that, regardless if this is a play or not, her physical abilities in this game do come from her. So even if the fights are “scripted” to an extent, she’s still capable of executing those moves. Same deal with the possible argument that Stella might be giving her those powers/boosting her. Peach still is capable of doing them on her own, unless we’re explicitly told in-game that Stella gave her those abilities and Peach wouldn’t be able to do them without her. But then this would undermine her baking and detective skills, and we know how much Peach loves baking. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see once the game comes out.
3. Peach is physically weak, much more so than what the movie shows. This is actually why I saw her Smash descriptions because I went to the wiki pages for all the sport games to check her stats. And in all the games showing said stats, her strength is almost always below average, sometimes by a little, other times by a lot, with quite a few instances having her as one of the physically weakest characters. I can only remember one exception where her strength was around the same level as everyone else. Everything else, she’s below.
For those curious about which stats I used to check on that: every game that has a “strength” stat, I checked it. As for the others, for the golf games I looked for the ball distance a throw gives as it seems like the one that would require the most strength, and for some Strikers games it was the shooting stat. I didn’t take Mario Kart into consideration as I don’t think there’s anything in that series that would count (even weight doesn’t really have anything to do with it), and the baseball games were a bit more complicated. By that I mean that Peach in Sluggers for example (at least I think it was Sluggers) has a bad stat as a hitter, but good at pitcher. And both of those positions require physical strength I believe? Unless Nintendo considers pitcher as more of a technique-related skill and hitter as more strength-related? But yeah, just leaving this here in case it’s relevant. Literally the one time I don’t spend time looking at the other characters’ stats to see what they have in comparison, it’s the one time where I’m not sure what it means in terms of strength.
(Speaking of which, because I found those interesting, know that Mario is always the most balanced character, Luigi tends to be not as strong as his brother but has more agility than him, Bowser is always one of the strongest, DK and Wario swap between which one has the same strength stat as Bowser and which one is a bit weaker depending on the game, Daisy is a fast character in the Olympics games which I find funny considering Mario Kart Wii, and Waluigi tends to be on the weaker end due to being lanky apparently.)
And outside of the sports games, one of her Smash Melee descriptions calls her one of the weakest characters physically, and how using her is a test of endurance (again, a literal fighting game gets it), while that one long gone Doctor Mario mobile game has her attack stat in combat mode be at its lowest, while her defense on the other hand is pretty good (haven’t played this game actually, just stumbled across the page and looked up some stats, funny how well they’re tied to the sport games, like with Mario being balanced, Bowser having the most attack etc).
Now there might be more examples I’m forgetting, but all-in-all, there’s a pattern of Peach being weak when it comes to physical strength. And on unrelated news, the part of me that headcanon her as a Toad is very happy about that fact.
2. Other personality differences
And speaking of patterns! Here’s something the movie removed from Game Peach: her wit. Peach in the games is smart, resourceful and quick-witted. And while it’s not something the games really focus on, it’s absolutely there.
In all those sports games I mentioned, there’s one stat that’s always her highest, and that’s her technique. In all the games that have a stat called technique, she has the highest one. In almost all the games that don’t have stats but just put the characters in categories based on their abilities (all-around, strength, technique, speed etc), she’s put in the technique box, with only like one exception in an Olympics game that puts her in the speed category, switching with Daisy. In strikers, the golf games, the tennis games, and likely the baseball games, her best stats are the ones related to her control over the ball, which I’d argue is the most related to technique (don’t remember the exact names of the stats but it was something along the lines of passing the ball, giving effect to the ball, choosing the trajectory of the balls and being pitcher respectively). One of the Olympics games I believe even calls her quick-witted.
On that note, I like to think that this is why she makes for a great swordfighter and Kung Fu artist in Showtime, as those are skills that require a lot of technique and she’s good at picking up on it (also is there an Olympics games that has a fencing challenge that she’s playable in? Because that could explain it too).
As for outside of the sport games, you have the 86 Anime where she manages to outsmart Bowser though she doesn’t get away with it, the Adventures Comic with her outsmarting the Koopalings and even managing to escape the tower by making fast decisions on where to run to and using Wendy’s possessions against her (granted she got lucky with the cape, but still), Paper Mario 64 with her sneaking around the castle finding info to help Mario, same deal with Thousand Years Door (from what I’ve seen of it), Superstar Saga with her switcharoo plan, Partners in Time with her quickly grabbing the star against Elder Princess Shroobs, Dream Team with her and Toadsworth going through a few trials on their own (plus, depending on when she got captured, she might have been the one to think of hiding with Madame Broque), Showtime with the detective outfit, all the games where she’s able to send Mario items (like Galaxy) or attempts to run away (3D Land), and overall she’s seen as a great Princess loved by her Toads, which is a role that requires a lot of thinking to take the best decisions for her people.
On the other hand, Movie Peach lacks this wit. While she does have a lot of technique given how much she can do physically, she lacks the smart decisions that Games Peach is able to do. Or at least, she doesn’t think things through like, at all. I mean if you look at her decisions one by one:
- She intended on traveling to meet the Kongs all on her own, going on a fairly dangerous adventure without a single person in tow. The only reason she went with others was because Mario showed up.
- She meets that completely random guy that broke into her castle and is immediately willing to take him on said difficult journey after one day of seeing him train, all because he looks like her (this is the main reason why I would’ve loved to have Toadsworth in the movie, he could’ve told her not to go alone, thus giving an excuse as to why she would take Mario with her).
- When Cranky refuses to land his army, she just doubles down on what she just said. While her arguments make sense, she clearly didn’t know what to say and had no backup plan in case he refused, and only got the army due to Mario’s impulsiveness (granted I think she could’ve taken DK in a fight). And while yes, she’s surprised when Cranky first accepts, meaning she might have expected him to disagree, the fact she says “that’s it?” makes it seem more like she expected a deal rather than a direct approval. She didn’t come off as someone who expected him to say no, but instead expected a conditional yes and didn’t consider what to do in case of refusal.
- When Bowser arrives, she intends to face him alone, literally getting surrounded by Koopas the second Bowser steps out of his ship. Then she tells him to use the star now. She basically sent herself on a suicide mission here, and clearly decided to face him without any sort of plan. Was she hoping her looking badass and all would be enough to deter him or something???
- The wedding scheme. Now, this one is fine overall and does show she can come up with plans, but also a few people have pointed out how there could have been alternatives. She could’ve tried talking Bowser out of the sacrifices, try to accept the marriage and bide some time in order to strike when there isn’t a fricking army standing right next to her. But instead, she chose to blow up the whole thing, which was a crazy dangerous plan. It also showcases what I was saying about her being confrontational, when this is the first thing she can think of. Now of course, in the end it was the best idea due to Bowser wishing to sacrifice other people, meaning she needed to act now. But with the context of Peach not knowing about said sacrifices, it means she still intended on doing the most dangerous thing first rather than getting the marriage over with and destroying Bowser’s empire from the inside. Heck had she waited until after the marriage she could’ve gotten access to the Star during the night or something. Also, again, there’s no telling how Bowser would’ve responded had she asked him to spare those lives, at least for the time being.
So overall, while I wouldn’t call Movie Peach an idiot as she’s not, she isn’t that smart either. She keeps rushing into dangerous situations thinking her fighting abilities will be enough to solve the issue, exercising none of the caution and patience Games Peach has when trying to escape or snooping around. And it honestly sucks that Illuminations decided to take out what is arguably one of Peach’s biggest strengths and replace it with another type of strength that not only she doesn’t need but also goes against her character.
Now, before we get into the last thing bothering me, which is her kindness or lack thereof, I’d like to talk about a few minor traits that could’ve worked in the kindness part but can also be talked about separately. Those things are her snark/sass, her seriousness and her anger. Basically, those are traits that both Movie Peach and Games Peach possess, and as a result it doesn’t bother me when Movie Peach displays those.
Peach in the games can be sassy at times, especially in the competitive games. That sassiness can also be turned into playfulness a few times, like in Superstar Saga when she trolls Mario and Luigi about her voice and laughs about it, or during the escort mission where she makes comments about how “it wasn’t that bad” when you exit an area.
Like Movie Peach, she’s also fairly serious during dangerous situations. It’s just that, due to her personality, she expresses a lot of worry in those situations, which might take away some of her seriousness when compared to her movie self.
As for her anger, boy is it present in the games, but again it comes off as toned down due to her inherent softness. In the 86 Anime, she’s constantly talking back against Bowser and gets mad at him a lot, same for Paper Mario 64. In Super Paper Mario, it’s easy to get her angry. In the ending of Odyssey, she’s pissed off, and I actually love how when she gets on the ship she needs to take a deep breath to calm down enough to bring back a smile for Mario. That doesn’t mean she isn’t angry anymore, but again she’s incredibly kind and compassionate so she’s willing to put it on the side for now and focus on getting home. Also in the intro of Super Princess Peach, she’s absolutely furious after reading Bowser’s letter.
About her anger, I can’t help but wonder if this is what Miyamoto meant in an interview related to the movie where he apparently claimed that Movie Peach is how he’d always wanted her character to be. Because let’s be real here, this claim, if true, is corporate bullshit. Miyamoto has a lot of power at Nintendo, he could’ve made Peach like that from the get-go if that’s what he’d always wanted. Hell just look at Showtime where Peach is the same as she’s always been in the games, very much proving that claim is false. So again, I can’t help but wonder if by that claim, Miyamoto meant her temper. Or maybe he was referring to the Adventures Comic, which is the only version outside of the movie in which Peach is confrontational, but then again she doesn’t know how to fight in that comic so…
I’d also like to talk about her confidence, since earlier I mentioned how overly-confident Movie Peach is in her fighting abilities compared to the games. Now, that’s not to say Peach isn’t a confident person, far from it. In fact, there’s that character pic from the second Rabbids games showing off her weapon and her smile makes her look very confident (that pic is at the very end of that post btw, if by then you remember this part). But despite her confidence Games Peach definitely comes off as a very humble person, while Movie Peach is low-key showing off during those fight/platforming scenes.
All this to say, if you praise the movie for “giving” Peach those traits, she actually always had them. It’s just expressed differently in the games. This is also what I meant in the intro when saying how all the characters are a bit off when compared to their games selves, but it still works for the most part. The traits are there, but in a different way that does make it seem weird while still making the characters recognizable. The issue with Peach specifically is that they went further than just changing a few traits.
Also because I don’t know where else to put it, Peach in the games is definitely a lot softer and delicate than her Movie counterpart, but I consider this mostly linked to body language, hence why I’m not making a whole part about this. But it’s definitely something the movie is lacking about her.
There's also her stubbornness and love for baking, but those are also things I don’t really want to focus on. Given the situation the characters are in and the fact Illuminations doesn’t know how to write scenes where characters just sit down and talk, there really wasn’t any opportunity to have Movie Peach talk about cakes. Now I do believe that this lack is due to Illuminations considering Peach’s love for baking as “making her weak and feeble”, but again, even if it wasn’t the case the movie has a pacing issue so they couldn’t have talked about this anyways.
As for the stubbornness, I just don’t really have any example in mind and don’t really know how to explain it as a result, but I do believe that both the movie and games selves have it. I might actually be inclined to say Games Peach is more stubborn, but again I don’t really have any examples of that. I mean I guess there’s the Mario and Luigi series where she disregards Toadsworth’s concerns a few times (wanting to see the Toad village in Superstar Saga, using the time-travel machine in PiT, the intro of Dream Team with the trap door). From the little I’ve seen of it, Paper Mario TTYD also has her go against his wishes at the beginning?
Now, for the last difference between the two: her kindness. Peach in the games is one of the kindest sweetest people you’ll ever meet. I think I remember someone actually mentioning how her liking cakes so much is fitting given her personality, as cakes are sweet and soft and bring a smile to your face, just like she does (sadly I can’t remember where I read this, whether it was a tumblr post, a youtube comment, something said in a video or something else). And while Movie Peach is definitely kind, it’s not as much as Games Peach. Hell whenever I see people praise Movie Peach for her kindness, they say something along the lines of how the strong female character archetype usually doesn’t make women be this nice. So what Movie Peach is clearing is actually a very low bar of human decency that people were asking for. In other words, Movie Peach is nice the same amount a basic supporting character should be nice.
In comparison, Games Peach really is kind to a fault. She’s always warm and welcoming to any new person, is said in one of her Melee trophies to be such a forgiving person she’s willing to play against Bowser, which is a sentiment you can also see with the few times they’ve worked together, also that one cutscene in the Last Spark Hunter DLC where the Rabbids go to Bowser for comfort and when he lets that happen Peach gives him the softest smile. Even in games like Mario Odyssey where Bowser is trying to forcefully marry her, she seems to show concern for him after he’s defeated in the Cloud Kingdom. On that note, she’s also very nice to Junior, despite how awkward it might be for her (never raises her voice on him in Sunshine, has over 80% compatibility with him in the Gamecube Baseball game, plays with him in one of the Switch Online ads/explanations).
Also as mentioned before she’s willing to temporarily let go of her anger at the end of Odyssey to call Mario to come to the ship. I also made a post about four instances where Peach jumped into a dangerous situation without thinking because other people were in danger, whether she knew those people or not + whether they were good or bad people. Btw since earlier I mentioned how Movie Peach lacked wit compared to Games Peach, those four moments show that yes, Games Peach can be impulsive at times and do things without thinking them through, but those instances are specifically related to her kindness/desire to help others, unlike Movie Peach who just does what she think is best in the moment and never plans anything. Also ironic I bring back the wit since I consider Peach’s kindness to be her second biggest strength, on par with said wit.
On that note, I’m one of those people who make up animations in my mind while listening to music and recently was listening to Wander Over Yonder songs thinking about Mario (“I’m the Bad Guy” with the Shadow Queen tho, or “You’re the Greatest Reprise” with Kamek, Bowser, Luigi and Mario when taking the order of which characters speak/sing first, also you have no idea how much I hope someone will make an animatic of Bowser singing “You’re the Greatest”). And the funny thing is, while thinking of voices and how the actor for Wander would fit either Mario or Luigi very well, it got me thinking of how both properties have a very nice/positive cast where even the villains can be friends from time to time, and I ended up comparing Mario with Wonder and realize that Wonder is actual pretty similar to Peach in some ways.
Both Wander and Peach are people who value friendship and understanding over fighting. They both love helping others, though it’s a lot more amplified with Wander, and are both willing to give the villains a shot at redemption, perhaps a bit too much, trying to see the best in people. Now what’s interesting here is that, while Peach is intelligent and her governing a Kingdom shows a level of maturity, at times she comes off as naive or airheaded, and I can’t help but feel like her kindness is the reason for it, and comparing it with Wander explains it.
The short version is, if both of them received an invitation from their respective villain claiming they were willing to change their ways, both would happily accept and go meet the villain with a smile. The difference however is that Wander would have Sylvia looking out for him, ready to jump in any moment. While Wander will play dumb on the possibility of the villain setting up a trap, he’ll be very much aware of said possibility and will be able to escape it. Peach on the other hand will drop all defenses and completely fall for the trap.
And I think that’s the thing with Peach’s kindness, and why she comes off as naive. Unlike someone like Wander who keeps a level of realism over the villains’ intentions and plays dumb about it, Peach believes the best of everyone to a fault. I’m especially thinking of that scene in the Switch Tennis game, with Wario and Waluigi showing up and half-collapsing, leading Peach to immediately run to them, ready to help, forcing a Toad to step in and tell her to be careful. Peach knows that Wario and Waluigi are bad news, yet the second they’re shown in trouble, she forgets all about the possible danger and wants to help, straight up needing someone else to remind her of said danger. In a way, it reminds me of that statement Miyamoto once made about how easy it could be to capture Peach by just giving her cake. While I’m not the biggest fan of this statement as it comes off as mocking her character, when you think about it, there is some truth to it.
Now I guess we kinda went off-topic here but also it’s a good way to show the way Peach expresses her kindness in the games, and how the movie failed to convey that. Games Peach sees the best in everyone, to a point where it can become a flaw, while Movie Peach is a lot more guarded (see her attacking Mario when he got close or her body language around the first Kong they meet). Also, Games Peach is someone who doesn’t seem able to hate anyone, though it is mentioned in I believe a Mario and Luigi game that she hates Bowser. Even then, I don’t remember said hate being really conveyed. Don’t get me wrong, Games Peach can very much be mad at someone and/or dislike them, and I do believe she doesn’t have the best opinion of Bowser, but she never comes off as outright hating anybody. Movie Peach on the other hand absolutely hates Bowser. Just look at her face when he tries to flirt with her. There’s nothing but contempt in her eyes.
3. In defense of Princess Peach
Lastly, I want to expand a bit on that whole “Illuminations looking down on Peach’s character” thing and the way people see Peach in general, along with talking about how I feel about some of her portrayals because why not.
Thing is, to an extent, I get it. Peach’s character origin is rooted in sexism, with her being meant as the damsel in distress who’s constantly helpless. She was definitely meant as a character of her time, and I get why some might find her boring as a result.
But the thing is, even with that origin in mind, Peach has always been more than that. Literally one insignificant year after the first Super Mario Bros game, we had the 86 Anime which gave her a personality. And then we had Mario Bros 2 USA where she was a playable character, one of the earliest playable female human characters in gaming (she wasn’t the first but still definitely pretty early). And while the mainline games kept a status quo of her being captured, we had the Adventures Comic with her being able to escape all on her own, the Mario Kart series with her being playable in every single one of them, same deal for the sports and Party games. She was playable in Smash starting with Melee, she was playable in the first two Mario RPGs (Super Mario RPG and Paper 64). Despite her role as damsel in distress, she was far from being put on the side when it came to non-mainline games. She even got her own platformer where she had to save Mario!
In some small ways, Peach actually reminds me of Luigi. He was player two in tons of games and absent in almost all big 3D games, meaning most players didn’t get to play as him in the majority of mainline games unless they played in multiplayer. Or he was playable but under specific conditions (pushing buttons in the right order for Mario Bros DS, finishing the main story and doing one special world in Mario 3D Land, literally finishing the game 100% in Mario Galaxy 1). And the first time he had his own game, it was in the early 2000s, less than 5 years before Super Princess Peach (granted Luigi’s Mansion was apparently a console launch title, which is a bigger deal; also no I’m not including that Mario is Missing shit), and it took forever to get sequels. And while he was playable in the Mario and Luigi series, he’s barely playable in the Paper series, neither is he in RPG.
Overall, while he does have much more playable appearances than Peach, a lot of it is conditional in the mainline games and he definitely struggled to get recognition, to the point of it becoming a recurring joke in the Mario and Luigi series + Nintendo made a whole “Year of Luigi” event to compensate for his lack of time under the spotlight.
As for personality, Luigi is shy and quiet, easily frightened, and often gets himself in trouble, with a few games needing you to save him. He looks up to Mario for safety and confidence and relies on him a lot, Mario basically being his rock. So you can definitely draw some parallels between him and Peach.
Now where am I getting with those parallels? Basically thinking about it, it does bother me a bit that Luigi gets praised for being an adorable dork while Peach is called bland and boring for expressing rather similar traits/being in the same situation, and I say that as someone who absolutely adores Luigi! In the end, I’m just going to assume it’s due to the weird hatred against women some gamers and fandom spaces have for some reason.
Speaking of which, since people claim to have an issue with Peach’s personality and how bland she is and how the movie “gave her a personality”, I’d argue that there’s nothing wrong with her character, the issue is her lack of screentime.
The best example of that is with Smash Bros Brawl. For most of the cutscenes, she’s getting captured left and right and is basically a non-character. But then there’s that cutscene on the ship where she takes the spotlight, and that scene is great! It’s incredibly fun to see that character during a huge crisis just pulling out tea out of nowhere and generally being more focused on befriending people than protecting herself. Seriously, while I strongly dislike how little agency Peach has in this story, I absolutely love this scene! Btw can we get some justice for Zelda? No because if Peach got shafted by the story, Zelda got it even worse. Even as a kid I could tell from her design that she could’ve done more to help, but instead the only time she actually does something, it’s as Sheik. Girl is clearly able to fight for herself yet she’s useless for the whole thing, it sucks!
The second best example is with the first Paper Mario trilogy, which is also probably my favorite version of Peach. The first game especially did a wonderful job at showing that just because Peach is captured doesn’t mean she has to stand around and do nothing, she can still help. This idea of having interludes with her sneaking around the castle does wonders for her character and really helps in making her personality shine, from her kindness to her wit to her adventurous side to her ability to put her foot down when interacting with Bowser.
Another thing I really like about it is how much it puts some of the kidnappings into perspective. In Paper 64, she finds items by sneaking around and then sends them to Mario. Hey remember the few games where she manages to send letters with one-ups and other items? Same with Mario 3D Land where she’s put in some sort of dungeon, tries to escape, and is put in a cage under high surveillance. Notice how in most New Bros games she’s in a cage when you reach Bowser’s castle, implying all those instances might have been failed attempts to escape.
Basically, while Peach doesn’t get much screentime, some games kind of makes you realize that she does a lot more than you’d think. She tries to get away, she tries to find ways to help Mario. She doesn’t just sit there and lament like many claim. Heck you can also see it in the 86 Anime and Adventures Comic. And reminder that the anime was created one year after the first Super Mario game!
Now the last example I have of Peach suffering from lack of screentime is with the Mario and Luigi series which, outside of the 2023 Movie, is probably my least favorite version of the character, not due to her personality but due to how wasted she is. And between those games being RPGs, meaning they’re supposed to focus on the characters, and the fact that the first Paper Mario games did such a good job with her character, the lack of screentime in those games is particularly aggravating.
In Superstar Saga, she’s actually pretty great! She’s fun, we see her kindness, playfulness, wit and desire for adventure shine. I especially like the way we see her craving for more adventures but can’t go on her own due to how defenseless she is. As someone who made a timeline of the games and has the first Paper trilogy + all the platformers with Peach playable taking place after this series, it’s a great way to slowly set up Peach’s growth into someone who can eventually go on her own adventures as a hero. Honestly the only issue I really have with Peach in that game is the game itself making a joke out of her getting kidnapped all the time. Not the greatest example of meta humor, guys...
I’ve also seen about half of Dream Team and she’s fine in it. I like how they brought back her thirst for adventures. But unlike Superstar Saga, she does feel more like a plot device in this one. Like there’s this whole section where Bowser and Antasma got the dream stone and Starlow is making a big deal about them kidnapping Peach, leading you to try and hide her. Thing is, if it was any other villain, I’d understand the urgency, but this is Bowser we’re talking about here. Peach is going to be fine, why are we wasting our time hiding her when we could focus on the bigger picture!
And even before that there’s this whole section of finding an older Pillow to reach Antasma for no other reason than Peach getting captured, because apparently they couldn’t think of any other excuse to have us meet the main villain, or give a reason for Bowser to show up for that matter. So yeah, the way they used her in Dream Team does make her feel like more of an object than a person, at least past the intro of the game.
But then we get to Partners in Time and Bowser’s Inside Story, and oh boy do I hate what they did with her. In PiT, you could literally take her out of the story and nothing of importance would change. The missing time machine? Just have the whole crew be Toads, it’s enough motivation for Mario. Petey Piranha? Either put a Toad, Kylie Koopa (and remove her scene later on) or even Baby Bowser, I mean why not! Princess Shroobs’ fake-out? Either keep that whole thing in since it’s technically not Peach (just have the characters comment on how she’s supposed to be on vacation or something and how weird it is that she’s there but oh well we gotta protect her) or, if you consider that cheating, just remove the scene and find a better excuse to have Bowser show up and go to the volcano. Or have Shroobs disguise herself as someone else, that’s still a possibility. As for the scene explaining who Elder Shroobs is? Was Peach even necessary in this scene? I mean, it’s pretty obvious what happened, and Elder Princess Shroobs could even explain it herself while gloating. I swear when I saw a let’s play of this game and Princess Shroobs commented on Peach now being useless to her, my first thought was “She was useful to you? Didn’t you try to kill her like an hour ago?”
As for Bowser’s Inside Story, she’s nothing more than a plot device. What does she do in that game? 1. Gives exposition about the Blorbs. 2. Is in danger as a means to motivate Mario. 3. Gives exposition about the Dark Star. 4. Is in danger as a means to motivate Bowser. Oh and did I forget to mention that she’s unconscious for the latter half of the game? Peach in that game could straight-up be replaced with a non-sentient magical item and the plot would stay the same. And I honestly don’t know what’s more insulting between that and what PiT did.
All-in-all, the issue with Peach isn’t her character, it’s the lack of time devoted to her. When she has enough room to be a character, she’s great! When she doesn’t, she’s either boring or a plot device, and it sucks that this is what most people remember her for when she has more going on than just getting kidnapped.
And since I’m out there giving my opinion on Peach’s different appearances throughout the franchise (you can skip directly to the conclusion if you want, this part is pretty off-topic):
My views on the first Paper Mario trilogy and the Mario and Luigi games are explained enough I think.
I also really like how she’s depicted in the 86 Anime. I like how she keeps standing up for herself against Bowser and talking back to him, on top of the usual being kind to Mario and co + her trying to be smart to escape. For Bowser, it’s like early on she realized he’s not going to raise his hands on her, so she’s free to fight back as much as she wants, even if she doesn’t have the abilities to get out of there by herself. Idk, while the Anime itself isn’t all that amazing (it’s pretty funny in how bonkers it is though), I really like what they did with both Peach and Bowser. And it’s pretty fascinating how their modern personalities aren’t that far off from this very early portrayal.
The Mario + Rabbids games also absolutely nail Peach’s character. It’s honestly kinda crazy when you think about it that both the 2023 movie and Sparks of Hope were being developed at the same time, both worked on by a different company that Nintendo had some level over but ultimately mostly gave advice to, and yet the movie struggles to depict the characters properly while Ubisoft did a ridiculously good job at it. Seriously, remember earlier when I said every character in the movie was a bit off? If you want to see a comparison, go see the cutscenes of the Rabbids games. And even if you don’t care about characterization, still do yourself a favor and go watch those cutscenes, they’re amazing!
The Adventures Comic is an interesting one. While she’s very provocative and willing to fight, she also doesn’t know how to do so, and it makes her scenes very funny. Like I love how in the beginning she rants about how she’s going to defend her kingdom, then the next time we see her she gets attacked by Lakitus and gets kidnapped. Girl lasted 10 seconds out there. That contrast of her being all bark but no bite is just very funny, and it fits well with how comedic the story is overall. Also, the way she’s so willing to act is probably why people remember her as a badass in it. Because she does talk like a badass, but she’s not one because her actions don’t follow suit. Still, I don’t take that comic much seriously so Peach is definitely very fun in it, and that’s enough for me. And again, that comic does a good job at showing that Peach’s biggest strength isn’t her ability to fight, it’s her wit and good heart, shown respectively with her tower escape and her constant desire to actively help.
Also, about this comic and how people see it, even outside of the fact they’re not the same as she doesn’t know how to fight in it, I find it really weird that this comic is used as proof that Movie Peach is in character, considering how 1. Before the movie, this comic was the only time in over dozens of portrayals that Peach was shown as confrontational; in statistics we call that an outlier, 2. This comic was made in the 90s, you’d think a more recent portrayal could be used as proof but nope, Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Showtime are still different from her comic and even more so her movie self, and 3. That comic is outdated anyways considering the Koopalings are said to be Bowser’s kids in it, so unless Nintendo came back on their words after re-releasing this comic in the late 2010s, it’s still outdated.
The mainline games are...the mainline games. I’d also put the second Paper Mario trilogy and Luigi’s Mansion 3 in the same basket. When she’s on-screen, Peach is her usual sweet self, but those games also suffer from barely giving her any time to shine. I do enjoy her depiction in games like Odyssey, Mansion 3 and the intro of 3D World (mostly because those cutscenes are cute), but again all those games definitely suffer from having her on the back-burner for pretty much the whole thing, and are the main reason why people dislike her character.
I also can’t help but wonder if Sunshine is the reason why she’s seen as a “dumb bimbo” by some people, especially given the “Mama Peach” trainwreck of a cutscene. And I will say, Peach definitely feels very meek in this game. She clearly can tell that something’s off, yet she barely insists on telling Mario and Toadsworth. You’d think a princess would be more assertive than that, especially when the Mario and Luigi games show that she’s not afraid to go against Toadsworth’s wishes.
Going back to the kidnapping issue, ultimately I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with her being kidnapped, especially when it’s impossible in the mainline games to beat Bowser directly without a power up (the intro of Odyssey straight-up shows that Mario can’t win against Bowser in a fist fight) meaning it’s normal for Peach to be unable to fight back easily. Bowser is incredibly powerful all things considered (enormous physical strength, fire breath, every part of his body is a weapon, can use magic, necromancer, can jump incredibly high, has an army at his disposal, his car clown heavily negates his slow walking speed), to the point where even Mario and Luigi are kidnapped sometimes (Super Princess Peach, 3D Land for Luigi, and while it’s not Bowser, Luigi’s Mansion for Mario too). This also all kind of leads into a message about working better together or how it’s okay to ask for help, which reminds me of that Tumblr post about how Mario never travels alone.
That being said, Nintendo should definitely either do something similar to Paper 64 (or at least what 3D Land did with the letters showing her try to escape, that’s already a start), either have her only kidnapped in specific games like the big 3D games the same way Luigi isn’t playable in almost all of those, or reinforce her role in other Mario series like making Showtime the first of several games + bring her back under the spotlight in the Paper Mario series. Again, when thinking of Luigi and his time under the spotlight, you can definitely do a similar work-around where she still gets kidnapped in some games while being playable in others, whether those others are different game series or for example around half of the upcoming 2D platformers.
And call me an ass for that but, while I’d love to have her playable in almost if not every 2D platformer, I still maintain that the big 3D games should keep having her getting kidnapped. Again, outside of Galaxy (and even then for the first one it was very conditional), Luigi doesn’t show up in those either. And if you maintain a good balance between her being kidnapped in the big 3D games + a handful of 2D platformers all while making her a major character in the RPGs and even getting her own series, you’re basically keeping the status quo of the kidnappings all while removing the issue of a lack of screentime.
(Note that my main “issue” with having less kidnappings has to do with Bowser’s character. If Bowser doesn’t kidnap Peach, you need another excuse for him to be the villain. And given how his crush on Peach, the main reason why he kidnaps her, is the first thing used to make him more of a softie which I love him being, I don’t want to see him do more and more messed up things all while his crush gets forgotten. Then again, him being a dad is currently the main thing Nintendo uses to make him a softie, and Origami King still showcased his crush despite him being a teammate, with the two upcoming RPG remakes following the same trend)
Not very much to say about her depiction in the sports and party games. The characters don’t exactly have much personalities here, so other than more proof on how her body language should be, there isn’t really anything to say in terms of “I like/dislike the way they portrayed this character”...also I don’t own a single sports game and only have like 3 party games (DS, Island Tour and Super) so outside of watching the cutscenes there’s not much I know about those games.
Conclusion
Finally, a few closing thoughts about this whole thing, and more specifically the fact that one of my two biggest issues is her fighting abilities. Thing is, when you look at her jumping on enemies in the platformer games, her abilities in the sport games, the fact she’s in Smash and the upcoming Showtime game, it’s very easy to disprove my arguments, since Games Peach very much knows how to defend herself. And while I maintain that she’s not that great of a fighter in the games compared to the movie and is more of a pacifist, I understand this view. And thinking about it more, I think the true issue with her movie self is the attitude Illuminations has about it.
As said much earlier, it feels like Illuminations doesn’t like Peach in the games. I also think I’ve seen somewhere that her VO made a comment in an interview about finally giving Peach some personality, something along those lines? Then there’s also the supposedly original script where Peach was the main character, and how Nintendo told Illuminations to rewrite it upon reading it.
And even outside of the production info, that disdain over her Games character is all over the movie. Toad keeps hyping her up, along with other characters. During the training montage, when she does the demonstration, the camera slows down to show just how “cool” and “badass” she is. You get the vibe that, even if Mario wasn’t here, she still would’ve gotten the Kong army and taken on Bowser all by herself. There really are moments where it feels like the movie is going “Hey look at what we did with Peach! Isn’t she awesome! Isn’t she so much better than that wimp that keeps getting captured!” The best example of that is when she saves Toad on Rainbow Road. Like, this was the worst offender for me.
Princess Peach Showtime, on the other hand, gets who Peach is. The intro shows her going on a stroll with her little pink parasol. She cowers when Stella uses magic on her. And while she has a swordfighter and Kung Fu outfits, said outfits are given just as much importance as her baking and detective outfits, the former showcasing the one hobby Peach has been into for years, and the latter showing off her intelligence. And even outside of those outfits, her main attack is magic, more specifically a cute little pink ribbon. Also, like mentioned way earlier, the fact that it takes place on a stage gives the impression that Peach is playing roles, though again it doesn’t diminish her abilities.
I think that’s why I can’t stand her fight-oriented attitude in the movie but can’t wait to play Showtime. The movie looks down on Peach’s character and feels the need to “improve” it by changing many things about her, while Showtime embraces who she is and simply expands on it by giving her a more action-oriented role with the abilities she already possesses. I think that’s also why her body language in the movie bothers me, as it goes into that direction of “making her stronger” by removing her mannerisms. Now, again, there are a few more things other than her fighting abilities that they did wrong with her character, there’s a reason this post is so long after all. But by the end of it, I think it really comes down to how much disdain Illuminations has for Peach.
And on that note, you have no idea how relieved I was when the first trailer for Showtime dropped and Peach was her normal self! While I know the movie is going to get sequels, meaning we’ll keep seeing this random badass woman cosplaying as Peach, it’s at least very relieving to know Nintendo is going to keep writing Peach the way they’ve always done. And I can’t wait to see what Nintendo got in store for this wonderful, adorable, hyperfeminine, incredibly kind, witty, soft, cake-loving pink Princess!
Thanks for reading!

#Super Mario#CAN A COMPANY PLEASE JUST BE NORMAL ABOUT FEMALE CHARACTERS FOR FUCKING ONCE ???!!! THERE WAS NOTHING TO FIX HERE !!!#Hey remember back when mlp FiM was a thing and people praised Fluttershy and Rarity for the amazing characters they were? I miss those days#I was having the best time with the Powser short and now this shit is dropping?! Like I'm playing it up a bit with due to the irony#considering the conclusion of my og post; but even without this in mind this change pisses me off so much#especially since I ADORE the og art! It's the most Peach thing ever!!!#granted I like the swordfighter one; given her stance her having a slightly more serious expression with the visible eyebrow works great#plus it's very minimal; they didn't change her whole face (eyes; eyebrows lenght and mouth) to fit in with the movie like the other two#and I'm actually torn on Kung-Fu Peach; I do love how expressive and cartoony it is but it doesn't look like the kind of face she'd make#I think it's the eyebrows; if they were tweaked to make it more in character but still kept her cartoony; I might prefer it to the og one#since the og one admittedly barely shows any emotion#the center one can choke tho; it looks horrendous; legit like someone photoshopped her movie face in there; shadows and all#plus I don't get why people say she's more expressive when it's a different expression altogether???#then again I can't help but see them as two different chacters; hence why I might not see how this one's doing the same face but 'better'#btw I love how in my og post I talk about how I'm in no way a Peach expert and the character doesn't belong to me#but now I just want to break into US Nintendo and go 'I'm confiscating her until you idiots realize she's perfect just the way she is!'#yes I'm blaming Nintendo of America for this; especially after hearing about the Kirby box art changes#On that note I HATE how this made me go from incredibly excited for this game to very wary of any possible changes they might do to it#also unrelated but I'm amused that they gave her teeth in the Kung Fu one given 3D Peach almost never has visible teeth#to the point where I hc that Toads don't have any and Peach's gem form keeps most of her Toad attributes; hence lack of teeth

AITA for "forcing" my best friend to break up with his boyfriend?
🧸
I (22 cis m) and my best friend 'A' (21 ftm) have been friends since we were 10 years old and I love him more than anything. He’s genuinely the sweetest, most thoughtful, and funniest person I’ve ever met. He means everything to me and we’ve been there for each other through the hardest times of our lives so far and I plan on staying until the end.
It’s always been us two. Btw, everyone mentioned here uses he/him pronouns exclusively.
A has been with his boyfriend (21 cis m) for about 2 years now, and from what he told me, things were going great. Even if I’m not too fond of his boyfriend. A few days ago, we got pretty drunk at a friend’s housewarming party. A and I live together, and as soon as we got home, he suddenly started rambling about how he wishes his boyfriend cared about him the same way I do.
Legit felt like I was in some dumb romance movie for a moment there. I felt a little uneasy and asked him to elaborate. In short, his boyfriend essentially treats him like a doll instead of a person with real emotions. He feels as though his boyfriend just uses him to get his daily fix of physical affection and sex, that’s it. The only positive thing his boyfriend can say about A is that he’s cute, which boggles my mind. It’s true but there’s so much more to him as a human being.
A is an incredibly talented artist, super kind, super emotionally intelligent, and has a plethora of interests he loves to infodump about. I’m trying my hardest not to make this entire post about how amazing he is. He’s helped multiple friends clean their depression apartments and took them out to get fresh groceries etc. because it’s basic decency to him. He has such a big heart and holds so much love in it for everyone in his life. Being around him is just so easy and makes life worth living.
He’s just an incredible person all around and every single person that has him in their life recognizes that, except his boyfriend. They’ve had issues in the past because they’re not sexually compatible, which led to some miscommunication and made A feel like he was coerced into things he didn’t want to do. He just did them to make his boyfriend happy. He does a lot of things for his boyfriend, actually. He’s constantly buying little gifts, remembering what he likes, and plans cute dates for them to go on. His boyfriend does none of these things.
I want to mention that A has bpd and avpd. He has an intense fear of rejection and will do everything in his power to appease others so they won’t leave him. I always take the time to reassure him that I love him for who he is and not what he can give me. Basically just making sure he feels loved. Keep in mind, his boyfriend is aware of this but he just gets annoyed when A seeks reassurance from him. His behavior has made my blood boil several times in the past already, but I always kept it to myself for A’s sake. If I was vocal about disliking his boyfriend, it probably would’ve caused A a lot of distress and emotional turmoil.
Still, I don’t think this relationship is healthy for A and I know him well enough to know he won’t break it off on his own. It’s just his combo of personality disorders that makes it impossible for him. I told him about my concerns and he agreed, but said he feels bad for his boyfriend since he apparently doesn’t have any friends outside of A. From my POV, it just looks like his boyfriend knows A is out of his league and is grasping at straws to make A stay with him out of pity.
This is where I might be the asshole. I got a little frustrated and raised my voice, which I severely regret. I don’t want to blame it on the alcohol but it definitely had a hand in it. I finally told him about all these grievances I have about his boyfriend, how much I dislike him and how A deserves so much better, etc.. At one point, I essentially gave him an ultimatum. It’s me or his boyfriend. I didn’t really mean it, it was just a heat of the moment thing I spat out. I would never leave him like that.
A started crying and begged me to calm down, at which point I realized how shitty I was being and immediately began apologizing. We hugged, I comforted him, and we spent the rest of the night cuddling and talking about how he could approach the breakup.
Now that I’ve sobered up I feel like absolute shit. I know it’s not my place to tell A what to do with his romantic relationships, even if I’m his best friend. Plus, I want to be 100% honest here and say I might have romantic feelings for A. I think I have for a long time, but I always wrote it off as intense platonic love. So I may be biased in this whole conversation about his boyfriend.
I didn’t say these things because of that. I genuinely think his boyfriend is a huge dick and full of shit, no matter how sweet and loving he pretends to be. It’s all in the way he treats A. He’s one of those guys that paint their nails (nothing wrong with that but you know the kind of guy I’m talking about), pretend to be feminists, and steal their romantic partner’s personality to seem cooler. He even asked A to stop taking testosterone because he didn’t like how hairy A was getting or some shit like that.
He’s pansexual but has only ever dated girls and started dating A before A began medically transitioning. There’s obviously nothing wrong with that and changes nothing about the fact that he’s pansexual, he just pisses me off when he criticizes A for being 'too masculine'. You can have a preference for feminine people but don’t make that shit your partner’s problem when they just want to pass.
I feel like A’s boyfriend just thought A would always stay the smooth, baby-faced twink he was before going on testosterone and now makes him feel guilty for looking like a grown man. Some people don’t know how to appreciate hairy tummies.
Sorry for making this so long but I just want to be as honest and informative as possible to get proper opinions on the issue. A is now dead set on breaking things off because he now knows that I actively despise his boyfriend and he always puts my opinion above everyone else’s.
Was I in the wrong for doing this or am I just protecting my best friend? I’m glad he intends on ending things but I feel a bit like a conniving snake considering everything. It feels like I’m taking advantage of his mental state even if I’m not doing it consciously.

My Weekend with @thickleee :
I'm writing this to give a small recap of my weekend with my lovely friend Sarah, aka thickleee. This is honestly gonna be less of an actual recap and more of me explaining my thoughts and feelings when hanging out with her.
I met Sarah at her hotel after an exhausting day at work. Immediately, she was one of the most spectacular and beautiful people I've ever gotten the pleasure to meet. Not only that, but almost instantly, she got me started with wanting to destroy her nearly seconds after we met. For real, y'all. She had me tickling her in the elevator. SHE'S TROUBLE!
So I guess I'll talk about the "thing" most would tune in for: Sarah is off the scales ticklish! I started with just giving her a foot rub, and she couldn't stop giggling. Foot massages legit tickle her like crazy! And if you think that was bad, you should've seen how she was when the real tickling started. I'll admit, I often tell those I desire to tickle that I will absolutely destroy them, but often thunk to myself, "Can I really do that? Can I really tickle a masochistic lee in a way that she desires? Do I have the tolerance to tickle for so long?" Spoiler alert - I CAN! I would end up tickling Sarah for minutes to even nearly an hour without stopping. I just couldn't bring myself stop. Driving her crazy and listening to her laugh fill the room just made me want to keep going. So I did! I found multiple spots on her body that just drives her up the wall (along with her absolute death spot 😈) , and I had waaaaaaay too much fun exploiting those spots. I learned that I can tickle for long periods of time, but let's not forget something more important - Sarah can take A LOT of punishment! She'd constantly act like a brat, get destroyed, then after making her safeword, she'd act up to make me tickle her again. Which I happily did. 😁
But whenever we weren't having our tickle time, we would go out to eat. As we both love food, I had to be sure we ate at some good places. Here's how that went:
The Cheesecake Factory was the first place when went to at the end of the first day. Unfortunately, it ended up being the most disappointing food stop we had. Ugh.
The next day, I took her to try the local pizza joint. Much better experience and we had pepperoni/bacon pizza and some really nice wings.
The most surprising food stop we had was, believe it or not, Waffle House. Can you believe that this woman has NEVER had Waffle House in her life?! Despite the fact that she's in her 30s AND lives in Texas! The South! Where Waffle House is EVERYWHERE! So she was gonna learn...and learn she did. She ended up loving it so much, we stopped there 3 times for breakfast. She's hooked now. 😉
The next place we went to was my favorite bar and grill in the city, where we both had some very good burgers.
For her last day, however, we ultimately chose to eat at the restaurant at the hotel she was staying at. Y'all......IT WAS THE BEST FOOD WE HAD THE WHOLE TRIP! The food at that hotel was insanely good!
Needless to say, we ate good.
When it wasn't tickling or food, we just hung out and enjoyed each other's company. Chilling in the room, watching movies (really just a Pirates of the Caribbean marathon), napping, and just talking. The biggest thing we did outside of the hotel was going to take Sarah to go see Sinners. BTW, if you haven't seen Sinners, go watch it! It was so good that even a non-movie goer like Sarah ended up loving it. Hell yeah!
But really, what I want to talk about is how Sarah's visit was just what I needed. 2025 has been awful for me until she showed up. Sarah is like a living ray of sunshine who came in at the right time. She's such a lovable soul, gives great hugs, a huge supporter, and is simply fun to be around and be goofy with. She also smells like cocoa! Sarah gave me the biggest smile I've ever had in a minute. As someone who's been facing depression and constantly going around being upset and/or angry with everything in my life, Sarah let me know how it feels to have someone there for you, irl. It was more than wanting her here to visit. I realized, truly, that I needed her here. I even had to stop myself from crying after the end of her last day. I didn't want her to leave and just wanted to keep hugging her. I can't thank her enough for showing up.
This past weekend helped me learn how much I needed to connect to my people, and how being with an actual friend in the community is so much better for my heart and soul than having to pay for women to let me play with their feet and/or tickle them. It wasn't just a scheduled appointment. Just having a good time hanging out with a great friend, sharing our common interest. I also learned more about my skills as a ler, and I plan to build on it.
I cannot express how much I love and appreciate Sarah for her visit, and I miss her already. While I'm looking forward to meeting the other friends I've gained on here, I also can't wait for the day that I reunite with Sarah, too. She's spectacular and I love her to death.
I had a great weekend.

Someone once told you that, even when something slips your mind, trust that it will find its way back to you. You always deemed this true, everything always sought out to swivel into your prosperity no matter how impossible you thought it to be.
It was like you were a ladybug, always lucky. Well, you'd like to think that was the case, in reality it wasn't even close. The past few months were hell. Not only for you, but for your best friend Peter Parker.
He had to deal with the heavy weight instantaneously put upon his shoulders. The consequence of figuring out how to live a life he wrestled so hard to keep private. You knew Peter thought the burden of the entire world perceiving his double life drained him completely. It was not as if he had cut everyone who already knew of him being Spider-Man out his life, no, if anything it only made him want to protect them more.
The hardship the poor boy went through in just the last few months made your heart ache, knowing how difficult it was for him to function without the help of his mentor. You reached out to Peter every single day, making sure he remembered there were people who cared for him and he could turn to.
As for you, being a friend of Spider-Man (or as Ned likes to say, "F.O.S") is a tough task. The stares you received not only in school, but in public were haunting. You knew everyone was judging you for being involved with who they believed was a murderer. It was nauseating to even think about, because Peter is anything but that. He's kind, caring, and modest. The boy couldn't even kill a fly if the opportunity was presented to him.
No one understood the boy, now that the secret was out. The whole world was against him, or at least majority of the world. Michelle informed you that he didn't really enjoy this particular version of fame he gained, and you couldn't help but agree.
When you heard of Peter's visit with Doctor Strange, you learn he tried in his own way to make things right again. He asked the wizard (who you didn't think was very kind based off your brief interaction with him) to cast a spell that would make the whole world forget he was Spider-Man in hopes that he could reverse what ruined you and your friends' chances of getting into college.
Peter being Peter finds a way to mess it up, which not only decreased his chances of ever having the world forget of his vigilance, but he apparently opened the multiverse. It allowed villains who knew of your friend being Spider-Man from other universes to enter your world, and the entire thing was damn near impossible to believe.
At first, you couldn't wrap your head around anything that was told to you, that was until Peter shows you proof of his encountrment with a man with literal mechanical octopus arms, a dinosaur—or more appropriately, a lizard, a man made of sand, and another one who produced electricity from his body.
Your friend felt responsible to help them. After learning their fates, which meant if he sent any of them back to their respectable worlds, they'd die. It wasn't an ideal situation, and Peter was noble, too noble. He wanted to cure them, to give them a second chance.
Reluctantly, you accepted his wishes of wanting you, MJ, and Ned's help, because he was your friend and if wanting to cure random villains from different universes cleared his mind of the world knowing his second life, then you'd be right by his side.
You thought the whole mission to cure would be an easy task, but you were so, so wrong.
Ned offered you and MJ to stay with him at his Nona's while Peter handled the more difficult part of the curing obstacle, and later that night is where you and your friends discovered the horrible, devastating news.
A anarchic consequence. Looking at the TV where the news played, you absorb the information of May's death. You didn't want to believe the details you consumed, because May was almost like a mother to you, and she loved you as much as she loved Peter. You did not even want to think about what was going through Peter's mind, and you just hope the poor boy was not spiralling.
If you know your best friend, you know that when he spirals, he often isolates himself from everyone and everything. It's a habit you wish he would break, but you suppose anything as heart aching as losing your mother like figure, the choice of isolation is certainly necessary.
You and MJ argue with Ned of wanting to find Peter, making sure he was okay. Before the two of you could walk out the door, Ned reveals that he was in possession of Doctor Strange's sling ring Peter had given him. He concocted the idea that with the ring, it would be easier to find Peter.
Sharing a look with MJ, you shrug and allow Peter's other best friend to give his idea a shot.
However, when Ned tries to use the ring and concentrates on wanting to find Peter, he finds two older versions of him.
You were in utter awe at this revelation. Two other variants of your best friend almost felt like a dream you could not wake up from.
Eventually after what seemed forever you finally find your Peter, on the roof of your school. When you hug him, immediately engulfing him in your warmth, he breaks down in your arms. It broke your heart, to see Peter so dejected. You wanted to take the pain away. Wanted to remind him that no matter what, you would be there.
The two other Peter's connect and share similar experiences, and encourage your friend to continue fighting.
After the words of encouragement, a new plan came about and Peter, you and your friends team up with the two other world Spider-Men to develop a more strategized cure for the villains.
Finally, you were all lead to the final confrontation at the Statue of Liberty, which is being renovated into Caption America's shield, in honour of him you assume.
MJ, Ned and yourself manage to help Peter cure the multiverse villains, but not without obvious obstacles. The difficult of such tasks lead to an almost devastating conclusion. The last villain, being the Green Goblin was twisted, wicked even. You pursued that he was the reason for May's life being taken. In the final moments of the battle, the Green Goblin's aggression reaches its peak.
His aggressive tactics, throwing pumpkin bombs and using his glider caused a significant amount of damage to the structure of the Statue of Liberty. Almost concluded in the death of your friend MJ. Thankfully the second eldest Peter caught your friend in time, but unfortunately for you as the structure falls, along with the shield, so do you.
Death for you, never was a thing you'd think about too often. Sometimes maybe a second thought, but not mindful enough to be taken serious. Sure, you wondered what it would feel like, or even be. Once you die, would you fall into an endless sleep, or would you see nothing forever? As you fell, death was all you could think about, of course. You hope once you reach the bottom of your fate, you wouldn't have to feel the pain and the demise would swallow you right away. You also hoped that Peter somehow, once you were gone, knew how much he meant to you. Knew how much you loved him as more than a friend.
As cliche as it is to be in love with your best friend, you fantasized the intention of being with him no matter how hard you didn't want to, knowing you shouldn't be allowed to even feel as much love for him as you did.
Deep down, you knew Peter deserves to be loved, and you were glad he found it within you, platonically. You could die happy with that acknowledgement.
Before the dark angel could even reach its hand out to you, you drop into familiar arms. Peter quickly swings you to the now fallen shield, holding you as you register the last thirty seconds, the cogs turning in your brain. You stare at your friend like a deer in headlights as he carefully puts you down.
Surely you thought death was on the doorstep.
"Are you okay?" He asks, his gaze carefully supervising your every move.
You nod your response as you look around, allowing your heavy breathing to mellow out.
"I thought—" You start as Peter steps closer.
"I know, I know. You're okay." He reassures, and you examine him, noticing his right eye. Blood invaded around his pupil and you scan the rest of his features, the identical crimson red colour decorated his face as well as a few bruises.
You hug the boy without a second thought, and in turn he accepts.
When Peter pulls away, you feel the word vomit take over you, and you open your mouth to say something.
Before the words you so desperately wanted to say could leave you, you glance behind Peter at the man responsible for May's death, a shiver running down your spine when as you feel a almost sinister shift in the air overtake.
Peter taking notice of your expression turns around in confusion.
It was almost uncanny, frightening and astonishing how swiftly you watch Peter's mood change from concern to instant anger. Not the typical anger someone feels, no, you could practically endure his revise. The boy looked murderous. The switch being so drastically different to the Peter you thought you knew made you question if you even knew him at all.
This was the same Peter Parker who you believed would never hurt a fly, the same Peter Parker who did not even want to idealize the concept of murder. Yet, here he was standing in front of you with a rage so intense, you step back in fear of what was to come.
"Poor Peter. Too weak to send me home to die." The Green Goblin grin was troublesome as he spoke.
"No," You friend starts. "I just wanna kill you myself." Peter's was raspy and low with anger.
“Attaboy.” The man grinned.
Enraged, Peter rushes at the Green Goblin, and boy do they clash. Your eyes widen at the scene taking place in front of you. The spider-boy pummels him with a murderous intensity. The Goblin breaks free, releasing his arm blades and swings them at your friend.
You gasp in horror, completely frozen. Watching such an extreme unfold before you was mind boggling, and the thoughts creeping in your head made you want to try and do something, but what could you do? Peter had the upper hand and it was brutal, so of course you were stuck in place out of fear.
Peter batters the Goblin until he's down on his knees, and unfortunately for the villain more barrage of punches given from the boy are received and the Goblin collapses to the ground, spent.
The fearsome inside of you increased and for some reason, tears threatened your eyes. You never really were a crier, but watching your best friend lay into Goblin, who took punch after punch caused unwanted emotions to course through you. You were so beyond scared at the person you swore you understood.
Observing the Goblin carefully, you don't realize your Peter grab the villain's glider, which was crashed at the base of the shield.
He drifts towards the Goblin, murder in his eyes, lifting the glider over his head and you register the fact that he had no intentions of coming to his senses.
Peter screams, unrelenting, about to bring the gleaming blade down on the helpless villain.
"Peter—" You cry as the much older version of himself steps in front of your Peter, a pleading look on his face, one you recognize.
Slowly, your friend snaps out of his angry, murderous intentions and relaxes. You observe the wordless understanding between the two Peter Parkers.
Shunk.
The familiar welch of skin being stabbed fills your ears, and the oldest Peter's face falls.
A grimace etches on your face, watching the Goblin stab the elder Spider-Man in the back.
The pumpkin bomb throwing villain staggers upright as his victim falls before him, clearly eager for more. He glances at you, and you take a unconscious step back, despite being at a safe distance already.
You could tell the man was taunting Peter as he looks over at him again.
"She was there because of you." The Goblin smiles, and Peter faces him, eyes narrowing.
"I may have struck the blow, but you." He laughs. "You are the one that killed her." The goblin cackles with glee at his own words.
You gaze at Peter just in time, eyeing as the second oldest version of himself throws the Goblin's cure, your Peter grabs it and briskly stabs the cackling villain in the neck. You watch the man stagger, shocked and in pain.
You breathe a sigh of relief.
Goblin falls back on his haunches, then a glint of recognition settles within him.
"Peter?" Norman stares at your friend in confusion as his eyes drift down to an injured version of your Peter, and if you didn't know any better, the look on his face seemed almost remorseful.
"What have I done?"
Eventually after all villains are cured, you step back to let your friend have his heart to heart moment with the other versions of himself. The only thing you wanted to do was search for MJ and Ned, hoping them to be okay.
However, your thought train is interrupted as your friend approaches you.
"I have a plan," Is the first thing he says to you once he's close.
"You have a plan?" You furrow your eyebrows.
Peter nods and he stares at you for a good while and he clears his throat.
"The sky—" He cuts himself off and you drag your gaze to the purple cracks in the sky as vague figures catch your attention.
"Are those..." You trail off and look at your defeated friend.
"I'm going to get Doctor Strange to cast another spell." Peter informs you and you're skeptical, but somewhere in your brain you figure it probably has something to do with getting rid of whatever was in the sky.
"Okay." You nod.
Peter sighs and shakes his head, like you were not understanding what it was he was trying to say.
"Don't be mad."
"Why would I be mad?"
"I'm going to ask him to make everyone forget who I am." He says, and you tilt your head in confusion.
"Like the same spell you already tried?" Peter shakes his head at your question and reaches for your hands.
"No, I mean, me. Peter Parker."
You feel your heart drop to your stomach at his words. Still, not completely understanding what it is he was trying to tell you, but if it's what you think it is, you sensed an unfamiliar feeling simmer.
"But that means I would—Ned and MJ." You stare at him in disbelief as he nods.
"I know, but I have to. I can't let anything else get out of control." Peter presses his lips together as he gauges your reaction to his words.
Ultimately, he was right. With the sky purple and cracked, and unwanted figures coming through, it was way out of control. You did not want to forget your friend before you could even confess your feelings for him. But you also did not want any more consequences for him to deal with.
Forgetting him meant forgetting everything you've been through with the boy. You couldn't bare the thought of losing someone you cared so much about. You did not even want to know what it's like to not have Peter in your life, not remembering him.
"I have to find Ned and MJ, to let them know as well." Peter states and you blink back into reality and gaze at him.
It was now or never, you thought.
"I'm in love with you." You blurt and you cringe at the five words and clear your throat before he could even respond. "I just thought you should know." You shrug and confidently never break eye contact with him.
You can tell Peter is racking your words through his brain, and you fear the worst as the silence becomes more prominent.
He mutters your name and pulls a strand of hair behind your ear. You were eager for heartbreak and you knew it didn't matter what his reply would be.
"I want you to know that I feel how you feel too." Peter reassures, and you gaze at him for a long while.
He feels how you feel too.
"And I promise," Peter's eyes never leave yours as he places his hands on both sides of your face. His touch was so gentle and reassuring that whatever he said next, you would believe him.
"I promise once this is all over, I will find you, and tell you everything."
At his words, you hug him, not wanting to let go. You think to yourself and pray his words become true. You did not want to have to live a life without Peter.
Slowly he pulls away, and gives your forehead a kiss, replacing his touch with his own instead.
"I promise." Peter whispers.
Even when something slips your mind, trust that it will find its way back to you. You remind yourself of those words as you replay his promise in your head over and over again.
You remind yourself of those words when Peter swings away to find Ned and MJ.
You remind yourself of those words as you look up into the sky, detecting something so foreign course through you. Your mind alters into a different outlet.
You couldn't remember exactly what you were reminding yourself of, the thought completely lost from your subconscious.

‼️⁉️⚠️DOGMAN MOVIE REVIEW‼️⁉️SPOILERS AHEAD‼️⁉️⁉️
Ok, I’ll break down my review into sections. First;
Animation
The movie looked great! It was true to the book’s art style and was very fluid (in that choppy animation sort of way).
It really shines in the fight scenes! Giving every thing a sorta anime look.
Story
It was faithful in the original books! Taking aspects from “DogMan” and “DogMan: A Tail of Two Kitties”. The humor was nice and subtle and the heart felt scenes really hit!
I find it interesting that they changed the chief from having a crush on the nurse, to having a crush on Sarah. I guess it makes more sense for him to fall in love with a main character instead of a side character.
The fact Officer Knight had not only Greg, BUT ALSO a girlfriend struck me! It makes what happen EVEN MORE sad, the idea that DogMan not only lost one, but two owners really made you feel the gravity of the situation.
I like how they expanded more on certain aspects! Like why the Chief was so hard on DogMan, how DogMan got his house, the Mayor’s brother running Cat Jail, etc. I like that attention to detail, it shows the care that was put into this story!
The fast pacing was welcomed too! It felt right since DogMan is already pretty fast paced in itself.
I enjoyed the relationships between the characters! Chief and DogMan work really well in both humorous but also deeper setting, same goes to DogMan and Petey. I like the banter that Petey and Lil Petey have, and their parental relationship is even better! Although, I think Sarah and Chief could have some more romantic scenes.
Grandpa was there. He was.
Casting
The casting was pretty solid! Pete Davidson did great as Petey, which honestly I was little surprised by (forgive me, I only know him from SNL). I was shocked that Ricky Gervais played Flippy, I always imagined Flippy having a deep voice to contrast his fishy body. All in all, everyone was great!
Music??!
Ok, I did NOT expect the sound track to go so hard. There were songs I was legit vibing to, especially the song during DogMan and Lil Petey’s montage. And the ending song is a bop!
Overall
DogMan was great! I highly recommend!
P.S: Sorry if this review isn’t the best, this is my first ever review so it probably has some issues. Constructive criticism would be appreciated!

he's a bit stinky. since yk y'all met him in the fantastically ruined dorm of ramshackle after all. okay maybe not. but he definitely avoids bath to the point yuu has to chase him all around the campus. basically your stinky child that won't let go of your legs once you visit ramshackle. he insists you take him with you on set and you always refused, yuu only got to go that one time because grim was stuck on crewel's office as punishment for breaking 22 vials of potions. when you do come home, you often bring him some blueberry pancakes from this one bakery down the street from your set. guess his scent adapts to whatever he always eats.
