just finished watching opla and I enjoyed it tremendously! I've heard of one piece but never watched or read it, so I went in blind with opla. and it made me a fan! I absolutely love the strawhat crew! luffy is so precious and best boy, zoro got my heart, nami is one hell of girl, usopp grows on you, and sanji just cracked me up! and the bond between luffy and zoro in opla is just *chef's kiss* (I kinda lowkey ship them...). the opla makes me want to dive in the anime next but the number of eps scares me LOL!
Hello there~
This is amazing! ^-^ Easily one of the best things that's coming out of this live action adaptation is that it makes new people become fans of One Piece and even give the anime or manga a try. As a longtime One Piece fan, it just makes me happy to know our fandom is growing. One Piece looks f-cking ridiculous at first sight, I get it, but it actually has so much to say. Its longevity is absolutely earned.
You know, you're talking to someone who ships Zoro and Luffy quite hard xD I'm not exaggerating when I say they have the healthiest, possibly strongest and most meaningful bond that any two characters have in the story. And we get to see so much of it. Their understanding and devotion is just on another level. In fact, there are things that the live action left out which make certain events in the future more meaningful/emotional. Though I'm curious how they're gonna adjust the story to keep a similar effect, so to say...
To be honest, I would recommend the manga rather than the anime anyway. The anime contains a lot of filler material which can range from elongating scenes to entire arcs that aren't canon. You might want to see certain scenes from the manga in anime form but you can just go ahead and do that after you've read it. There are more than 1000 episodes and also more than 1000 chapters but trust me, it doesn't take 20 minutes to read one chapter so you'll be able to catch up with the manga much sooner than with the anime. The number may seem daunting but it really isn't when you're reading it. Plus, seeing Oda-sensei's art improve over the decades is a joy. You can read all available chapters on the official shueisha site here. (Or you can download the mangaplus by shueisha app.) You can only read each chapter once for free, though, so do keep that in mind. If you do decide to read it, I would love to know if your opinion on any of the strawhats will possibly change and what you think of ZoLu's bond in the manga~

I find it interesting that you lecture people about knowing the difference between canon and headcanon when it comes to kakashi. I agree because it is selfish to not let other people enjoy whatever they want but it sounds hypocritical. You’re doing the same as they are. You say you care about canon but quote fillers and novels, stuff not even written by kishimoto and say databooks are written by him as well??? 😂😂 no. What are you even saying? You’re also wrong about fanbooks dont use translation apps because I have one and its published officially but in no way by Kishimoto. I love kakashi too but wow
Well, I did already link my sources and explained why I think so here already, you're more than welcome to go read it again in case they weren't clear enough the first time you saw them or something, and I don't know, there is a literal interview with Kishimoto and his editor specifically stating that Kishimoto told them what to write in the Hiden novels in that link so I'm not sure how much more clear do you want it to be, plus a lot of events that happened in those novels are used in Boruto manga which is being written by Kishimoto now, like Kakashi's Purple Lightning which was invented by Kakashi the novel, if the novels aren't canon then why Kishimoto and Ikomoto are using stuff that happened in them as part of the canon story?! at least those are actual things that was stated in actual interviews not a headcanon I came up with and still I'm going to repeat what I said before, that this is just my opinion which you don't have to agree with. As for the databooks, every single databook and fanbook states on it's cover that it's an official guidebook authored by Kishimoto and here's a Chinese person confirming that my app translation to that Chinese cover was correct
Even the English versions, Japanese versions and official SHUEISHA website are stating that all the guidebooks (databooks and the fanbooks) are written by Kishimoto, you can go check them yourself, so if all of that is still not enough for you anon, then imho and with all due respect, that's straight up denial, but still, here I am telling you again like I said a million times before, that my opinion doesn't matter and you can go ahead and consider them not canon or whatever, you're free to believe whatever you want to believe, I don't really care, as long as that makes you happy, so be it, just don't go harass other ppl about it just because they have a different opinion or because they disagree with you!

Where can I read and request manga?
My mission with my tumblr is to help you find official resources to consume manga; doing it these ways will help the mangaka who work to bring you content and it encourages English publishers to bring over more series.
Check under the cut for legal websites, apps and retailers with detailed information. At the bottom you'll find surveys and ways to contact publishers with requests.
You can use regular retailers to buy digital and print: Amazon/Kindle, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, Bookwalker, Google Play, Apple Books, Nook
There are apps available for buying volumes, chapters, using ticket systems to access free content, or with subscriptions.
Mangamo - $4.99/mo for 200+ titles; titles available for purchases with in-app library
Viz manga - $1.99/mo; titles available to purchase with in-app library (carries titles from Viz, but not their SJ series)
Shonen Jump - $2.99/mo; titles available to purchase with in-app library (carries specifically SJ titles, which are often popular shounen)
Comikey - uses a key system; ability to read for free with ads and patience
Kmanga - app maintained by Kodansha; chapters are often available to read for free through a ticket system and able to purchase
Kodansha - a website where you can create a free reading account. They offer 3 free chapters on all their manga, occasionally feature several free volumes, and run sales on their content somewhat regularly.
MangaPlus - $1.99 or $4.99 for a subscription; will allow a free read of their simulpub series.
MangaPlaza - 7 day free trial; $6.99/mo; [info incoming, seems to have more mature licenses]
INKR - 3 ways to access content; free, coins & 'Extra Membership'. Extra can cost $4.99/mo or $44.99/year and gives you access to content, extra savings and "free ink" that can be traded for their coin system. (Used to be Manga Rock and that was a fun read from them)
MangaPlanet - $1.99/week -> $47.99/year depending on which tier you pay for.
MangaUP - 1 month free trial, $4.99/mo; you can browse their 'vault' to see if things you like are included
Renta! - point system; 1 point = 1 cent; regular bonus points for higher purchases
Mangacat - [currently researching; seems to allow people to independently upload and set prices for viewing; people can also do translations for work. Acts as somewhat of a 'by fans for fans' site. Coin system where 20 coins=1$ with no discounts for larger purchases]
Irodori Comics - hosts 18+, specializes in doujinshi, more info incoming
ComiXology - $4.99/month; a service through amazon that allows you access to comics, manga and graphic novels. Specifically boasts {2400} manga titles.
Animeplanet - has a library of completely free comics and anime through partnerships; seems to host less manga styled comics but free is free.
Manta, Comicle, Webtoon, Tappytoon, Tapas, WebComics, Bilibili will be looked into but they host mostly webtoon style comics
Seven seas has a (mostly) monthly survey that is linked on their homepage at all times. {They will pull from any publisher, including digital only simulpubs}
If you have a bookwalker account, I found a Google doc that you fill out requests and they send them to publishers.
To send suggestions to Viz, use this survey that is listed through their Contact Us page (you select the "Series Suggestion" and will be redirected) {they mostly pull from shogakukan and shueisha titles}
To send suggestions to Kodansha, go to their contact us page and there are 2 useful drop downs; suggest reprints and suggest series, suggest series is also useful to request a print of anything they've licensed digital only. {They pull almost exclusively from Kodansha Japan}
TokyoPop has a discord server where they look at your suggestions in the channel #licensesuggestion
If you are able, in any way, support official English releases. It shows it is a lucrative business decision to continue the manga. Nothing is worse than starting something and being unable to finish it because it stopped getting translated and published.
I will update this post as needed, enjoy your manga! ♡

Where do you go to find the KHR manga in Japanese?
I'm a native Japanese! So I can read with original language. And also that's why my English is a mess :D
It's seems common for Japanese living abroad to order Japanese books. I have no experience with this yet, but I googled it and find some options. Thank Google always.
If you want to read KHR in Japanese, you have the option of registering for the Japanese version on online retailers. Many of them can be shipped internationally. Also you can read in e-book. Below are a few sites. All of these are major and I have confirmed that they can ship internationally if it's paper books. Click on the URL to access KHR!
Amazon
Kindle Unlimited
Honto
Rakuren books
U-NEXT (it can also watch Anime)
e book Japan
Also you can also get all volumes as a set, official fan books, illustration books or novels. (I heard that not all of what is published in Japan is also available overseas.)
Or "少年ジャンププラス" (website/appstore/Google play store) is Japanese(original) version of "Manga plus". This is an official application by the publisher and you can read many of past works including KHR. You can read the works for free by watching the ads or playing games.
This is also officially operated by Shueisha. It seems you have to use a billing system to read KHR in this. But it can read as an e-book. I'm not sure if it's same today, but I have been informed that it can be read from abroad.
ゼブラック (website/app store/Google play store)
But perhaps these may not be accessible from abroad. I don't have access to MangaPlus because I live in Japan. Also, shipping costs may be high and you may need a credit card that can be used in Japan. If you need any explanation or help with the Japanese language, I will be able to assist you. And I'm sure there are other ways besides these. I hope this helps you!

Are you tired of looking through sketchy sites with a bunch of pop-up ads for reading manga? Do you occasionally feel bad for using piracy sites?
Try Manga Plus by shueisha! Call today!
Ok for real tho. It's an official service by the Japanese publisher Shueisha. The proceeds are passed on to the artists. It is ofc limited to the manga that they publish. (location lisencing can also limit it) Some of the manga I'm reading there is: jjk, One Piece, Akane-banashi, Kagurabachi, and more
On the website you can usually read the 3 first and 3 latest chapters for free. However the app is where it's shining. A lot of manga you get to read all the chapters for free once. If you wanna reread or there's manga not included in the "first read free" service you can get a subscription, but for me the free service has been enough. The only ads I get are at the end of the chapter, so it doesn't ruin the reading experience at all.
The one negative thing I've had is that some manga doesn't divide all that well to the phone portrait orientation. You know when you have a physical book and the drawing gets into the middle a bit, because it divides the page in two it can be a bit awkard to read. (One Piece is the one I've noticed this the most with). However I checked with phone rotation unlocked and it seemed to fix it. So I am making an educated guess that that's a non-issue on a tablet.
Many might already know about this, but I figured it doesn't hurt telling about it for the ones who hasn't accidentally stumbled upon it yet.
#manga#feel dumb for not checking if it works if i roate my phone sooner lol#when I first started reading jjk the latest chapters on mangadex linked to manga plus instead#I still use some piracy sites for manga - but if I find it on manga plus I read it there

Moebana by Hidari Yokoyama
It is pretty much a niche manga about Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement style) and shows how an otaku Tsukumo Fukakusa learns about Ikebana and then subsequently joins the Ikebana club and pairs up with Tsubame Dewakuni to enroll for the prestigious Rokka cup. Their personalities are poles apart and one thing they both have in common is their passion for flowers!
Sunshine and introvert pairing up is my guilty pleasure UwU ✨
It is a slice of life with a lot of varied side characters who are super interesting too. The mangaka and translator have worked hard to convey the meaning behind Ikebana so well! Love the little notes on the side about the scientific name of flowers etc. It is very cute, calming and relaxing to watch two cuties arrange flowers with other cuties!
Read for free on Manga plus app by Shueisha!

Kaiju No. 8 Wiki
Japanese manga series Kaiju No. 8 (Japanese: 8, Hepburn: Kaij 8-gou), commonly referred to as Monster #8, was created by Naoya Matsumoto. Since July 2020, Shueisha has been serializing it online for free on the Shnen Jump+ website and app. As of October 2022, the chapters have been gathered into eight tank-bon volumes. For its release in North America in English, Viz Media has obtained a license. A confirmed anime adaptation has been made.
The Story:
Kaijuu, or grotesque, Godzilla-like monsters, have been spotted in Japan for many years. An elite military organization known as the Defense Corps risks their lives every day to defend civilians by battling these animals. "Sweepers" employed by the Professional Kaijuu Cleaner Corporation are left in charge of disposing of a creature's remains after it has been destroyed.
Kafka The 32-year-old man named Hibino dislikes his job as a sweeper. He had wanted to join the Defense Corps and work as a kaijuu killer since he was a young boy. But after a few fruitless tries, he gave up on his aspirations and accepted the mediocrity that earned him a respectable salary. Nonetheless, when a driven, 18-year-old recruit named Leno Ichikawa joins his cleaning team, Kafka is once again reminded of his desire to join the military.
Following a chain of unfortunate events and an interaction with the junior sweeper, Kafka encounters a parasite-type kaijuu that forces its way in through his mouth—turning him into a humanoid monster. With his newfound powers, Kafka aims to give his lifelong dream a final try

Casual reminder that Fullmetal Alchemist (The manga that was adapted into Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and widely considered one of the best anime of all time for its art, story, and characters) was released on a one chapter per month basis.
On a related note Hiromu Arakawa is currently writting another one chapter a month series called Daemons of The Shadow Realm. You can read it for free* officially through the Manga Up app, and it also has some other popolar series like The Apothecary Diaries (That also releases on a monthly basis). It has some older series too like Fullmetal Alchemist and Soul Eater if you want to read something that's already finished.
* Manga Up is weird. Everything from here on is tangential to the original post so feel free to skip it.
Basically Manga Up has three different types of in app currency, two you can get for free and one you can only get through paying for it.
The first kind refills up to its cap twice a day and permanently unlocks up to four regular chapter installments (I'll get to it) per refill.
The second kind you get as a bonus for buying the third kind of currency OR they'll give you some if you read the first chapter of a series they're promoting. They will tell you when a first chapter will give you that currency through regular notifications or when you open the app, so you don't have to go around guessing. This currency can permanently unlock the most recent chapter installments or regular chapter installments after you run out of the first currency
The paid for currency can permenantly unlock any chapter installments after you run out of the first two kinds. The app will always prioritize the currency used in order of least effort needed to aquire it.
What that all basically boils down to is that if you're patience and willing to do a few non-risky and unintrusive clicks from time to time, you can read/stay up to date on a bunch of series for free. Since chapters are unlocked permanently, you can even unlock a few chapters a day without reading them so you can go through and binge the series later.
Now to explain what I mean by "chapter installments" (And arguably the worst thing about the app). The thing about Manga Up is that it breaks up every chapter into 2-3 installments that are unlocked seperately. For people reading for free this makes everything take longer and for people paying for currency it makes it more expensive. Fortunately, when a new chapter drops all of the installments drop at the same time so you aren't left on a mid chapter cliffhanger unless you run out of currency (And the installments are labelled "1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc. so you can tell if that will happen before you read).
Second thing that complicates the above: There are normal installments and Advance installments. Advance installments are basically the most recent chapters and you can only use the second and third currencies to unlock them. A normal installment can be unlocked by any currency, specifically the one the app refills for you twice daily. Once a week, an installment will be switched from Advanced to normal to mimic a "once a week release" for people reading a series using just the free currency.
Now why go through all of this instead of piracy? First thing is it tells the company that you like the series, which means it's less likely to get unexpectedly cancelled (Or dropped from digital and print releases if it's complete, meaning the author wouldn't get residuals). The second thing is that it updates faster and more consistently for currently ongoing series.
While Manga Up has its issues, it's still something I prefer over a lot of other manga reading apps. The Viz and Shonen Jump apps only let you read the first three and most recent three chapters for free which means you're out of luck if you don't want to spend money on the rest to read it there. Manga Plus (The Shueisha manga app, which does include most Viz and Shonen Jump series) lets you read an entire series for free, but only once. After you read a chapter and exit it, it gets locked (Unless it's the most recent three chapters which you can read as many times as you want). All the other manga apps I've found either only let you read the first chapters for free or only let you read if you have a subscription/paid for specific volumes.
“Omg dungeons menshi is so good! The characters and the worldbuilding and the art and the hu—“
It’s because the author had TWO MONTHS between publications instead of the usual week. 8X the amount of time to plot her story and see where she had been and where she was going and figure out how best to get there. Imagine if this was the industry standard instead of the crushing gears of weekly publication which grinds the minds, bodys, and souls of mangaka to dust until there is nothing left. Imagine Dungeon Menshi qualify manga as a rule not the exception. Imagine stories that did not destroy their creators. Imagine—

Idk if anyone has mentioned it yet but if you're interested, Mangaplus by SHUEISHA (the publishing company for one piece) has the entire manga for free on their website/app, the only catch is that you have to pay if you want to reread a chapter but other than that it's completely free
I have heard about that!!! Tbh I wanted to at least try with my local library because they do have all the volumes and I want to support libraries. Buuut I wanna keep reading so I think I’ll supplement with manga plus and use my library when I can get my hands on the volumes.
