Pearl and Gem's dynamic in the Life Series means so much to me, Pearl desperately wants to be wanted, to be loved and to be needed. Gem keeps getting love shoved at her and demanding that she be a leader and she's so fucking tired of it.

Also I genuinely love the abusive Scott angle (absolutely NO hate to cc, I just like the thought of it) because he plays into everyone he interacts with's insecurities. He insults Jimmy's intelligence and he ignores Pearl, these are pretty established facts. But the thing I find interesting is that Cleo seemingly lacks any huge insecurities, and yet she chooses to stay with Scott. This leads me to my theory/observation: Scott love bombing Cleo

Slight warning, I will be stretching the truth and ignoring a bit of canon to entertain this idea. The rules are you guys aren't going to fact check.

Lemme explain that, Scott has no interest in Cleo in third life, but as soon as Cleo was betrayed, in a sensitive position, he swoops in and saves her, giving them an alliance, but once she goes red, he drops them, Cleo is left thinking that they are the problem, so she goes to Scar to ask for a life back. Once she goes back to Scott, she is given an extra life "to stop it from happening again" Cleo learned what made her fall out of favor with Scott and prevents it. In Double life, Scott drags Cleo away from her soulmate and shows her all this love, building a bridge to her house, always complimenting them in front of Pearl while putting down Cleo. But once it's down to the last four, when Martyn shoots a firework rocket at Scott, Cleo is blamed, saying that they betrayed him. This probably makes Cleo feel absolutely terrible and guilty for something they didn't do.

In Limited Life, they were allies, but Cleo was always to know that she wasn't ever going to be on his priorities, and acknowledging the canon context around this, Cleo has been recently divorced and is now a single mother of two kids, so she's likely begging for someone to help her, but even thier allies don't help.

In Secret Life, Cleo was nearly entirely ignored by Scott, but there were a couple instances of him paying attention to her, Scott and Gem helping Cleo complete her task, and when they were the only ones left. I'm going to ignore the last one because I can't make it angsty. But the zombie apocalypse is more interesting, Cleo and Scott were alone and Scott says "widows alliance" and they stick together, but after that session, it's back to ignoring them

In Real Life, Cleo's insecurities probably really started up, and I'm willing to bet that their win was immediately tarnished by Scott, if in the next series she didn't try to win, would Scott treat them like they weren't a real winner? And if they did try to win, Scott would accuse them of trying to overshadow him.

Of course Cleo sat by while Scott belittled Pearl's trauma, they are just as much of a victim of Scott as she is, but their trauma can't be addressed in the same way Pearl's is because doing so would make them lose Scott's favor

he's back at it, yet another serious death threat has hit car hammer explosion man

in case you were wondering how things went down at the pokemon world championships this weekend:

-during the top 8 of the TCG masters division, chilean player fernando cifuentes was running a gimmick deck that consisted exclusively of four iron thorns ex and a whole ton of control-focused trainer cards in a strategy that either completely shuts down opponents or shits the bed entirely

-through skillful play and some good luck, fernando made it through 2 days in a tournament with over 1100 players to get to the quarterfinals

-fernando lost 2-0 to ian robb, who was running regidrago vstar (widely considered one of the best decks in the current format)

-in an overexuberant victory celebration, ian did what can only be described as a jacking-off gesture, on a stream with tens of thousands of viewers run by a company with very firm player conduct expectations

-the judges determined that this warranted a penalty of game loss, but for some reason, rather than applying it to ian’s next game in the semifinals, they applied it to the one he had just won in the top 8

-(it should be noted that the prize money for making top 8 is $15k while top 4 is $20k, so this jerking gesture cost ian robb $5,000)

-nearly an hour after fernando came to terms with his loss and the end of an impressive run, he was told that he was to get back on stream because he’s now playing in the semifinals due to winning by default

-the player he was up against in the semifinals was playing a deck (miraidon) that happens to get shut down hard by iron thorns’s gimmick, so fernando wins the semifinals

-said player, jesse parker, had notably had an undefeated run throughout the whole tournament up to this point, and likely would have continued that streak had his intended semifinal opponent not gotten a game loss penalty for miming a lewd act on stream

-meanwhile, the other semifinal winner is japan’s seinosuke shiokawa, running a deck (roaring moon) that players had largely written off as underwhelming months ago

-the grand finals are on the following day, so saturday evening was abuzz with a lot of people baffled by the absurdity of the situation

-come sunday afternoon, the grand finals are set to begin, with fernando cifuentes running iron thorns and seinosuke shiokawa running roaring moon

-it should be noted here that the roaring moon deck doesn’t rely very much on abilities, so iron thorns’s gimmick has very little effect - this is basically an even matchup

-fernando wins the first game of the set, and seinosuke wins the second

-the third and final game of the set is a bonafide cheek-clencher, with both players reaching a state where a single KO will win the game, but fernando manages to clinch it at the last minute

-and that’s the story of how a guy pretending to jork it led to the first instance of a pokemon world champion who also lost the quarterfinals

one thing that took me embarrassingly long to learn is "sometimes when people say things, they will not be true."

I used to tell people about this revelation and they'd be like yeah.....duh.....but like, why wouldn't my base assumption be that you're communicating to me in a straightforward manner. anyway, I get scammed a lot.

Western lesbian representation is so bad. It’s either the series gets cancelled, a character dies, they don’t get screentime, or the storyline only focuses on the homophobia they face.

Meanwhile in Thai GL, there have been over 30 series announced for 2025 alone. And let me tell you, there’s something for everybody. Space lesbians, childhood best friends to lovers, period drama lesbians, boss x employee trope, multiple couples and love triangles, mafia action lesbians, idol x bodyguard trope, lesbian with powers to control time, prisoner lesbians, black cat x golden retriever trope, crime-solving lesbians, messy sapphic friend groups who are all in love with each other, high-school sweetheart fluff, weddings, happy endings and so much more. And this is just the beginning. There will be many more great series to come in the future.

The only thing that’s stopping more western people from watching is because of subtitles. Which is such a pity because these people say “there’s no good lesbian representation”, but there is. You just have to be better at looking for it. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment anymore, don’t watch something for the bare minimum representation.

Honestly, I love it when characters relapse. When someone who’s gotten over their anger issues falls into a situation so out of their depth they fall back on their old habits. When someone who’s learned to open up becomes a recluse again in order to cope with something outside their control.

There’s just something so horrible, so toxic, about watching a character grow and then slip back into their old selves in order to cope, bc you know they still care, that they’re the same inside, but watching them hurt so hard they don’t know what else to do brings a sense of catharsis.
