oda gave the most serious and realistic and cunning laugh to donquixote doflamingo and it's absolutely saying something. doffy is the villain and what's scary is how he's an amalgam of all the worst things in humanity. it's fucking insane - seeing doflamingo is too real. even more so watching him through the lens of a person of color (i the viewer) whose country has lived through centuries of colonization and at present, neocolonization and its lasting effects.

I like to imagine you originally meant what you said as a nickname.
Something similar to 'You go, Sister!' Or 'Take 'em down, Brother!'
You clearly meant 'brother/sister' in a teasing way, like a playful name to call them.
That doesn't necessarily mean you see them like siblings.
The idea of the two misunderstanding your tone and becoming obsessed is an amusing way to think of this concept.
You have no idea what you just started when you say those words.
You may even miss the brief sparkle of excitement that shows in their faces when you call them your sibling.
Obviously Luffy is ecstatic.
He's always been one for siblings and loves the ones he has/had very much.
He loves Ace, he loves Sabo...
If he considers you one of his siblings, then he's super clingy.
Luffy may struggle understanding romance, but platonic love?
He's pretty much a master with that.
He wasn't expecting you to call him brother... but he was hoping you would!
I feel he'd be even worse if this was after losing Ace.
By then he's convinced, before he meets Sabo again, his brothers are dead.
If you call him 'brother' during this time...
Something in Luffy... clicks.
You... You really see him as a brother?
You love him like he's your brother?
Afterwards you get a clingy Luffy who refuses to leave your side.
That's how his brothers died, after all.
Imagine when he meets Sabo again in Dressrosa, he eagerly shows you to him, declaring you his new sibling.
Sabo's surprised at this, meanwhile you're struggling to explain what exactly your bond with Luffy is.
You try to say it's a misunderstanding, but Luffy ignores your words and gleefully tells Sabo you're part of his little family now.
Sabo finds the circumstances amusing, merely grinning and asking you to take good care of Luffy.
Truthfully you may not mind being seen as an older sibling to Luffy...
But you don't particularly enjoy his obsessive behavior that makes him watch your every move like a hawk.
Who knows, maybe later Sabo will see you like a sibling too, just to support Luffy's behavior around you.
Then there's Robin, who's shocked at first when you call her your sister.
Remember, Robin lost her entire family to the World Government and was hunted throughout her life.
She hasn't really had a family to call home.
She's found one in the Straw Hats, luckily.
Robin may also be close to you, which triggers your affectionate nickname.
Unfortunately, like Luffy, she takes your words wrong.
I can actually see Robin dropping her mature act and crying a bit when you tell her.
Which confuses you and makes you panic.
Did... Did you say something wrong...?
Robin may need some time to contemplate your words, trying to recover from the sudden shock.
She isn't immediately clingy as she needs some time to think.
Eventually though she's overjoyed that you consider him close enough to be a sister.
Once she understands the situation, she's super overprotective.
Robin wants to be a protective older sister to you.
After all, you're probably younger than her.
She often keeps an eye on you and is wary whenever others are around you.
She lost her old family and friends...
She isn't going to lose this one... not even you.
Robin would rather sacrifice herself than see you hurt.
She occasionally hugs you, whispering how she loves you, all while you awkwardly hug back.
Again, you don't mind being seen as a sibling to her, but like Luffy she never seems to give you your space...?
With the two working together... Luffy is the clingy younger brother and Robin is the protective older sister to you.
Another thing to note is Luffy and Robin have only ever had positive interactions with each other.
Which means there aren't many times where they'll fight between each other.
In fact... They'll be quite the lethal combo.
Both of them would be overly protective of their obsession if they saw you as a sibling.
The two may even encourage one another since you view them both as your brother/sister.
Robin is more controlled and less impulsive, but Luffy still has a lack of control when it comes to emotions.
If Robin didn't like someone near you, she'd glare and keep you close.
If she had to, she'll use her Devil Fruit to force them away and keep you close to her.
Luffy, as I've stated in previous concepts, runs purely on instinct.
If someone hurt you or was a bit too close...
He's on them within an instant, leading to you trying to pull him off.
Robin will either help you get Luffy under control, or encourage him...
Depends on who it is.
I feel both of them are capable of murder.
Would it come up often? No.
Not unless they could lose you.
I'd say they're both smothering with affection too.
Luffy clings to you with his rubber body, making it hard for you to pull him off you.
Robin herself is fond of the occasional hug.
If you refused, she'd probably drag you into it, saying you need to give your big sis a hug.
The two love you.
Luffy has always been a sibling person and Robin is excited to have found a new family.
If they both see you as family, good luck leaving the Straw Hat Pirates.
If you ever left to another crew or were held hostage by someone...
You'll be dragged back... Doesn't matter how much blood is spilled...
You're family now, like it or not, neither of them will let you leave.

Title: Past Wounds
(Chapter 12 of Doflamingo’s Marine Series)

Chapter Synopsis: As you and Doflamingo open up to one another, you find even more in common in the traumas of your pasts. While he still plans for the future, intending to never have you truly leave him or your new kingdom of Dressrosa again.
Author’s notes: As evidenced by chapter warnings above, there are a lot of potential triggers in this chapter. Nothing is overly gratuitous in my opinion. But still, fair warning. I always let the characters run the show for what they’ll say/do next and this was the result. As Doflamingo had recounted to you those bits and pieces of his time spent with Tsuru as a boy, of course you’d sat in silence, listening intently. But even with the seemingly unflattering details he did allow, you felt like that curtain between you and his past was only being pulled back just enough to tease towards the bigger mystery.
Like a single flash of lightning across a dark and unfamiliar room. The parts he did tell would only let you make out some hints of shapes, pieces of him you’d never known. Before everything was plunged into darkness once more.
But telling you even this much did stir deeper things within that darkness for him at least. That was obvious in his many pauses as he spoke, and by just how quickly the wine disappeared the further his story went on.
He’d finished the first bottle in his hand before his strings had brought the second bottle to him and into the bed as well.
But regardless of his height, and the additional body mass that offered him, you started to realize even warlords had a limit. It was still too much, too fast for his body to put it away safely.
And he was self medicating. Wasn’t he?
“Doffy,” you did say in test after he’d quieted for a few more minutes.
He wasn’t smiling any longer, and his eyes didn’t move from you. “She left me there.”
And something warned you then. It was in the way his shoulders sank, but his muscles didn’t relax.
He didn’t want logic or reasoning right now. He didn’t want you to say that Tsuru had had no real choice but to desert him.
And desertion was absolutely how he saw it. That sentiment made further clear in the dangerous irritation which rose in his next words.
“But Rosi was good enough. You white coats took him from me as soon as you fucking could…and wasn’t he too young? He was younger than me! So why? Why was he better…no, he wasn’t.”
It did take you a moment to even realize who Doflamingo meant, even as you began growing more nervous as he seemingly argued with himself as much as anything.
Was he talking about Rosinante?
Codename Corazon was what you’d actually known him as. Tsuru had sometimes called him Rosinante though. Which that bit of familiarity finally made more sense if only tonight.
Because she’d met both brothers before they’d ever become criminals.
But you still weren’t following this new turn. How had the marines taken Doflamingo’s brother? Corazon had been killed a few years ago. All over a stupid devil fruit sale gone bad as far as you knew. The Donquixote family versus the Barrels pirates at Minion Island.
You’d been there that night as well, on Tsuru’s crew to pick up the pieces afterward. You’d seen the bird cage just before it came down…and the bodies that’d been left in the aftermath.
But this new confusion in your eyes only had Doflamingo leaning forward aggressively. You could see the added flush in his cheeks from all that wine as he closed in on you.
And for the briefest moment you’d envisioned one of those now empty wine bottles being smashed open against your face.
Because you somehow knew that he had considered it.
But then those same bottles only rolled aside with his movement within the bed. His words were slightly slurred the faster he tried to force them out.
The more he tried to make you understand that pain that no alcohol could ever quench.
“They turned my own baby brother against me….he hated me.”
The warlord’s lips were the only thing that met your face this time though. Not a fist, or the bottles, even as that kiss still held so much anger from within.
Doflamingo’s hand was tight on the back of your neck so quickly too, forcing you to him as his tongue and that secondhand taste of alcohol filled your mouth.
He was actually drunk tonight. And it was your job once more to prevent yourself from being further hurt.
“Doffy,” You said more insistently again, briefly breaking your mouths apart.
Yet you weren’t bleeding like before. So this allowed you at least a chance to try softness first. Even if it wasn’t organic at all. Even if every move you made was now purposeful as you brought your hands up to stroke his face before your mouths could reconnect.
His left eye did close at that sudden touch, his lips still parted as the bright red iris of the right eye focused on you cautiously.
“You’re okay.” You found yourself saying regardless as you petted this dangerous creature.
His muscles were still so tight, his breath a bit uneven as you stroked along those high cheekbones and up into that short blond hair.
But there was the slightest hope for you in the way he’d started to press his face into that touch after a few more moments. He didn’t want you to stop.
It wasn’t over yet though. It’d never be, when suddenly he’d next pushed his full weight against you. You were forced onto your back on the mattress. This behavior already seeming to follow the pattern of so many times before as your core couldn’t help but immediately tense, fearing penetration.
Yet he didn’t straddle you this time. His legs curled up instead, allowing him the room to lay down. Your head now by the foot of the bed, and both your and his feet nearer the headboard as he laid his face across your naked breasts.
In your surprise, his hand also caught your wrist, pulling your own palm back to the side of his cheek as he bid you to keep petting him again in this new position.
And so of course you did. Having to breathe a little more forcefully with his weight on you then. But it wasn’t that painful. You weren’t being fucked this time at least as you watched the ceiling while stroking his jaw before your fingers moved back into his hairline as you massaged his scalp lightly.
You weren’t stupid. The parallels were all far more obvious now. His biological mother had died early on in his life. And in his own mind at least, he’d reclaimed some semblance of that motherly bond when he’d met Tsuru. But then she’d left him too, and his father had died, and his brother eventually too. Those full details still unclear in his odd behavior surrounding their two names.
But no matter the hows or whys, he had lost one family member after another. It was hit after hit on an already troubled psyche to further grow that void inside of him wasn’t it?
And needy boys soon became needy men.
So he was burying all that desperation in you now, no question there. And before you, whoever else he could get his claws into you were sure. But for your own sanity, you would have to believe that everything he felt for Tsuru was still more from the boy within and not the hedonistic man that’d now torn through your body multiple times.
She’d have washed him into pieces if he’d ever tried anything inappropriate with her you were sure.
But with you? Those lines were already long gone. Clearly they were as he kept his face warm against your chest. Like it truly were an innocent refuge for him in this moment, but at the very same time you felt his already half hard cock rubbing against your legs.
He didn’t do anything more with that arousal right now at least. But his confused body didn’t seem to know the difference between affection and sex either.
Sex was affection to him. It was comfort. And evidently he sometimes wanted to be mothered by you as well, just as much as he wanted to always keep fucking you.
But the most immediate danger was again passing as you continued to give him what he wanted. You felt his muscles finally relaxing. All while you petted him more like something pitiful that had to be taken care of, rather than a true lover or equal partner in this instance at least.
Psychologists could fill entire books on a case study like Doflamingo you were sure.
And he wasn’t even done yet.
“Don’t leave me too.”
You heard those new drunken words break the silence. But you feared truly acknowledging them and possibly setting him off again as you just kept holding him. You stroked his face and down his neck to keep him calm.
Your heart rate was increasing regardless though as his arms tightened around your waist in return. His possessive body language was beginning all over again. But he said only one more heavy thing before closing both of his eyes.
“….don’t make me do it again. Don’t make me erase another light like you.”

That night felt endless. He had fallen asleep against your chest. So you’d been spared whatever sexual play he’d threatened from earlier, before he’d first started that story and gotten far too much into the wine.
But in exchange, you were left with a restless, fitful animal. Even though he was deeply asleep, you still felt him tensing and moving so many times during the night.
Sweat would form on his brow as his hands would clench. Sometimes with those fingers against your hips, or your arms, stomach, or elsewhere as he shifted around.
He was having nightmares.
And you couldn’t hope to sleep, your own body on high alert, waiting for strings to come out of his fingertips, waiting for pain if he forgot even for a moment where he really was.
Yet when he’d start moving again like that, you’d whisper his name and start stroking his head and neck once more.
His grimace would fade, and he’d start to still again.
It was exhausting. Like fighting a fire all alone the entire night. Fighting it, and protecting him when your own body and mind wanted so badly to give up as well.
And at some point you did. You didn’t have any endurance left when consciousness finally slipped away. But you’d already seen the sunlight through those portholes again when it did.

His head was aching. But warm fingers were caught in his hair. The sound of your heartbeat was against his ear as he tried to focus his good eye into that too bright daylight.
It was fucking morning again already. But he didn’t want to move. Your chest was soft, and your grip was still so welcoming somehow.
How much had he told you last night?
Those dreams had melted into the real words he knew he’d said. But it was hard to remember the difference, where one ended and the other began.
He’d tried to save himself all those years ago. He’d tried to do the right thing for what was left of his family.
Because Mariejois would never suffer a traitor. Blood traitors especially. The most grievous crime that could ever be committed against the gods was when one Celestial Dragon turned against another.
Death was the only possible result in such a rare tragedy. But Homing and Rosinante both had still chosen that fate in the end. His own blood had given him no choice but to carry out the only answer they knew would come for their crimes.
They’d chosen your licentious world instead of their heavenly birthright and had to be culled for it. Like diseased branches being cut away to save the larger tree.
And then he’d been fully orphaned, broken wings and all, stuck living alone in that same world in the end. But he was still carving out the best life he could in the circumstances.
He’d already retaken the Donquixote ancestral lands in Dressrosa. Retaken his heritage in the same castle his ancestors used to rule without mercy from.
And now he’d secured you, the elusive temptation that had evaded him for far too long beforehand. Of course you were no equal to him. The innate filth of your own blood was still something that could never be overwritten. But the gods were able to claim anything lesser than themselves that they desired.
So there was nothing improper in his need for you. Nothing he wouldn’t have still been allowed if he’d lived atop the world once more. He could have had as many human wives as he’d wanted. Bred all of them or none of them as he’d seen fit.
There were many half breed children in Mariejois. Most going straight into slavery of course, but not always. Pets were allowed too. They’d never hold the social status of a pureblood, but they could live a fully pampered life if their Celestial parent chose such for them. They could stay in the same home, be lavished and given affection like any other treasured possession.
And all this stress only reminded him of these possibilities time and time again.
He still wanted a replacement family for his that had been destroyed. He wanted you, his human mistress, and his half breed he could soon raise from you. He never wanted to feel as alone as he had in those nightmares ever again.
Doflamingo smirked, your heart beating so steadily beneath him still. That organ beat for only him, it belonged to him already.
But would you ever love him in return? Would you be grateful in the life he could provide for you? Would you understand how lucky you were to find this rare mercy within him at all?
It didn’t matter.
As long as he had what he wanted. As long as he always won and everyone else lost.
That was the natural way of things. And anyone who acted to truly interrupt these eventual outcomes could join Homing and Rosinante in his forgiveness of death.
He’d actually let you sleep though, as he’d finally untethered himself from your body. His bladder full from all the drinking of last night and his body needing relief as he’d taken the longest piss in the bathroom.
This vacation was finally over. All the meetings and business dealings he’d put off for the last few days to spend that time with you instead was now going to bite back at him in full force.
He knew this as he’d flushed the toilet and looked at himself in the mirror, knowing he needed to get ready to head to his office on board and start making overdue calls. But his mind still lingered in the past, even then.
Because his one intact eye that often reminded him of his mother’s perpetually sad ones reflected back at him tiredly in that mirror.
But the other eye was somehow sharp as always, even behind that milky white of scar tissue. As if it was watching him instead. The mismatched eye he’d been born with even before that arrow had first pierced it in this world.
The left eye and its larger red iris that used to frighten his peers and reject the sunlight enough that he’d been taught to cover it as far back as he could remember.
His one eye that matched the two of the one true god. The immortal who sat upon the empty throne. A being that he’d seen only once, when he’d brought Homing’s head to them in that last chance offering which was ultimately rejected. A past recipient of the Ope-Ope fruit’s greatest power he had no doubt.
Another ancestor of his perhaps, one whose eye and madness he had inherited. The nineteen original families of Mariejois had interbred for centuries after all.
But Doflamingo just laughed softly to himself, gripping the sink before he turned the water on to wet his hands and begin washing his face.
There was still so much that none of you knew. Information which those who sat on high would do anything to keep from spreading.
It was yet another reason you’d never be allowed to leave him once they realized how serious he was about you. Because those five old men and the monster they served would assume he’d shared all their secrets. And they’d surely kill you rather than give you any chance to talk if you ever fled from him and lost his protection.
Divorce would never be an option for you. It truly would be until death do you part.

You rolled over, and something about even being able to do that much was enough to finally wake you again. Because you weren’t trapped under him anymore.
Raising your head, you looked around, groggy and concern quickly growing on your face. Because you didn’t see him anywhere.
And as you’d experienced before, not seeing him was always worse to you. Because then you didn’t know his current mood, or his intentions. You had no sense of the current danger.
Slowly you sat up, bedsheets falling away from your nude form.
The sun was fully in the room. It was obviously later in the day.
There was a tray beside the bed. The same one that dinner had been served on last night. But all that was now gone.
A new plate was there. It looked like toasted bread. But with crushed tomatoes over it. Some had already been eaten, but there was plenty left.
You rose up carefully, peering into the drink pitcher beside it. Some kind of brightly colored juice was in the pitcher.
It should have been laughable of how cautious you really still were.
How afraid you were to do something as simple as eat when behind enemy lines like this. Pirates had prepared this food. They had readied this drink you had to remind yourself.
But only then did you notice a piece of paper, laid flat with its corner hanging out from under the pitcher on that silver food tray.
And when you slid that paper out, your very first reaction was to immediately be taken aback by the immaculate penmanship.
The only time you’d seen something like this was on decrees direct from Mariejois. It made the hurried writing you were more accustomed to in documented naval transmissions look like something you all had written with your feet by comparison.
Like this was a page fallen out of a book. But it wasn’t as you finally started to read it.
“I must have kept you up last night. That’s what happens when you let me drink too much, Captain. I considered leaving a string man to keep you company, but it would have been too boring just to watch you sleep.
We’ll be in Dressrosa by this afternoon. Clean yourself up and be presentable. Use my snail on the end table to summon anything you may need from the servants. I have work obligations. I wouldn’t recommend wandering the ship alone however. I wouldn’t want you to get your hands dirty again. My travel crew doesn’t have the best manners after all. I’ll come back to you when we’re nearer port.

And you held that paper for a while afterward, just entranced in the sheer novelty of it. He had truly beautiful handwriting, and he’d taken the time to write it for you.
It was the stupidest thing you’d likely ever felt. But you realized no man had ever written you a personal note for any reason.
“What the fuck is wrong with me?” You said to no one but the sleeping snails. And then you did grab one of those pieces of bread off the food tray and took a bite of it in test.
And it was delicious. Because of course it was. With olive oil and garlic mixed in with some other seasonings you were too uncultured to identify in those crushed tomatoes smeared across it.
With the bread in one hand, you folded that note from Doflamingo gently with your other.
For some reason you didn’t want to get any food on it. And you didn’t want to throw it away either.
Just like him, it was insidious in how you kept thinking about it now. How you wanted to keep it.
How much you liked it.

The hours ran by so quickly. Just like he knew they would. He’d been on the phone with nobility from other kingdoms, with Cipher Pol agents, with pirate captains, and warmongers of all kinds. All his customers itching for their next arms, drugs, or random pick of any other contraband shipments that they’d been requesting which his networks were currently brokering for them.
It’d been interesting which clients dared to mention anything about the newspaper articles as well. Not all would, with his Joker identity and his public status as a warlord and king existing as two wholly separate things.
But of course there was one particular call that had everything to do with you.
Doflamingo had had his feet up on his desk by then, one ankle crossed over the other as he waited while it rang.
That cackling scientist knew better than to ignore a call from him. No matter what he may be working on with Vegapunk currently.
The transponder snail did connect at last. But the voice on the other end sounded far quieter than normal.
“J-Joker?” Came the question.
“Of course.” Doflamingo answered, but asking immediately. “Are you alone?”
“Alone enough. In a supply closet actually…” was the ridiculous answer.
A response the warlord knew was likely not at all a joke. What an idiot this was. But an extremely useful one. “Well, Caesar, I need to commission you for what should be something far more simple this time. Something I need immediately.”
Tight timelines were nothing new. The majority of the current drugs and war worthy poisons that Doflamingo sold all linked back to this growing business relationship with Caesar Clown.
Caesar and his constant need to prove himself superior to his official government boss, Dr. Vegapunk by any means necessary. Caesar also with his perfect combination of immorality, greed, and spinelessness to be used so well by a man like Doflamingo.
“Yes, of course, Joker.” The near salivation of what kind of new payday this would mean for him was all too evident.
The gas logia user loved his new patron’s very deep pockets. And Doflamingo was certainly willing to provide, given that the results remained what he fully wanted of course.
“I need a new drug. This won’t be a mass product though. This is going to be for personal use alone.”
There was a noise of interest at that of course. They all knew Doflamingo didn’t normally use his own supply of anything. Normally being the key word however. There were always exceptions.
And he just outright said it now. Because once the Heavenly Demon had made up his mind on something, it’s not like he’d have any further hesitation. “I’m in the market for a family actually. I assume you saw the papers.”
Silence hung for a moment. The cogs spinning no doubt. “Shurororo...” Came the odd, and bit nervous laugh. “I did, and that was a surprise. So bold of you, going after an enlisted woman…the marines must be scrambling.”
“They can waste their time all they want. It’s real.” Doflamingo said decisively. “I’m keeping her. But she may not be fully on the same page with all of that yet. But you know me…results are king. And I want to get down to business. I want a child with her. But I need a way around that standard marine issue contraceptive. I want to override it.”
“Oh my.” Caesar was truly caught off guard, but not for the underhandedness of course. The snail had an outright wicked smile then from the scientist. One that could have rivaled one of Doflamingo’s own. “Has baby fever struck in that oppressively hot country of yours? Though, all dynasties must start somewhere I suppose. So you’ll be wanting at least an heir and a spare then?”
“Just one to start.” Doflamingo corrected, though beginning to grin a bit himself. “Quality over quantity.”
“Of course.” Caesar quickly agreed in that overly subservient way of his, but clearly still so interested. His own sadistic nature was likely highly delighted in it all. “How much modification though? I’m sure you’re aware of the kind of things I’m capable of improving on. Vinsmoke was hardly the only one at the pinnacle of that foray into eugenics. I could design circles around that fool.”
And here was the thing Doflamingo knew he had to be firm on. “Vinsmoke’s wife also ended up dead and his children little more than machines. My blood won’t be wasted in such a bland result. Nor does it need such improvement.” His voice did darken too, letting his seriousness on this point be most known. “No permanent damage to the woman either. If there was, your own death would be something I’d make you pray for, Caesar.”
It was a bit more complicated than just being able to do a clean execution of this scientist if it came down to it of course. Because they had other projects in the works that absolutely needed Caesar. The one still pending with Kaidou chief among them. But there were some things worse than death, and everyone knew Doflamingo could absolutely deliver on a threat like that if pressed.
And Caesar did stutter a little at that. The message was clearly understood. “Y-Yes, Joker. A low risk pregnancy then, of course. But might I recommend at least a little added insurance against common toxins, and a bit of extra hardiness at least?” Poisons being one of Caesar’s specialties of course. “Assuming she will be the last to know of her, ah…condition. Smoking, drinking, all those fun things you know would probably not be well advised, could have countermeasures put in place. And marines do brawl a bit at times, don’t they?”
“Fair point.” He did want you to be the last to possibly know. Because as strong willed as you were, he had the real concern that you’d try to sabotage things yourself once aware. He couldn’t say for sure, but it was possible. “Is that doable? Just enough to make sure it thrives even if the host decides to disagree?” Doflamingo asked genuinely.
“Oh, very much.” And at that Caesar recounted the specifications as if they were talking about nothing more questionable than a grocery list. “So you aren’t interested in twins or any multiples, just the facilitation of a single ovum being released. And the only modification being what would be required for healthy development in a possible unideal environment…if the mother is still out bar hopping and roughhousing or whatever I imagine marines must all do.”
“She roughhouses enough with me, yes.” Doflamingo conceded with another smile. “But she’s no delicate flower. We both get rather hands on, and into the drink together.”
And Caesar chuckled again. “Shurororo…I can make that work. It’s just canceling out the hormones of the contraceptive and then adding in a few other factors for those modifications…and different hormones to force ovulation too as it sounds like you’re in quite a hurry. Otherwise it’d be a small window each month naturally. I can make a fixed window instead so you know exactly when the timing is right.”
“And no permanent side effects.” Doflamingo reminded. “Or you know what will happen to you.”
“Yes, Joker.” He could hear Caesar swallow even over the snail. “I’m so much better than Vinsmoke though. No need for concern, really. It would likely be nothing more than fatigue and cramping. No worse than their monthly cycles.”
“Then do it. Put it in something clear and tasteless. I’ll have your normal development and rush fees wired over to you by tonight. I want it delivered directly to me.”

There was no knock on the door. No warning at all as it just swung open. Which of course, it was his cabin.
But that didn’t mean you didn’t startle all the same. For someone so large not to be heard coming down the hallway, that was bothersome.
That pink mass of feathers moved into the room as the door shut behind him.
Doflamingo stared at you for a moment, or you assumed that he was. It was hard to tell with the sunglasses back over his eyes before he smirked.
“Not a bad sight to have waiting on my bed after a long day.” He murmured, approaching you where you now sat fully dressed on the edge of his mattress.
And he crouched before you could reply to him. Squatted in front of you suddenly when he leaned in for a kiss.
It was a bit rough as his lips met yours, but nothing extreme this time as he smiled afterward, faces still almost touching as his tongue dipped out briefly.
He looked more than satisfied.
“You probably felt us turning, Dressrosa’s on the horizon already. We’re heading for the south port in Acacia.”
“Alright.” You said plainly. It wasn’t as if there was anything else you could do. You’d cleaned up, dressed, even put makeup on to cover the bruising.
“Let’s change the bandage again.” He said though. “How long are you going to be able to walk for?”
And at least this process you’d done more than once now as you offered him your thigh. “Won’t really know until I try. But you are not carrying me in front of any cameras.”
He actually feigned a bit of a scowl there. Far less intense than his real ones as he started undoing the string wrap again from around your leg. The cords obeyed him so completely, white and soft as it unravelled to the floor. “Oh, but you’re forgetting where you are now, dear. I’m the king of the literal country of love and passion. It’d look very chivalrous on tomorrow’s front page wouldn’t it?”
“It’d make me look weak.” You gave him a real look of distaste in return.
“Then at least damn take something for the pain you stubborn brat.” But he was smirking then. Too happy in this moment finally being here you were sure. He’d brought you home with him at last.
All the advantage was now his as well. You were about to be in his country, with his crew, among his everything. You would have no power here save for whatever his extremely limited mercy allowed and you both knew it.
“I’m not drugging myself up on painkillers when I’m about to be in the same room as Trebol and Diamante.” You said with added certainty there.
Doflamingo’s hands did pause at that in the midst of rewrapping your wounded thigh as he asked, “Why?”
“Why?” And you did look at him there like he had two heads. “You know why!”
Somehow it had always been them. The only Donquixote officers that could ever get close enough to you. Trebol and his stupid snot that you’d gotten your legs caught in before. And Diamante with weapons that rained down like confetti, cutting you through even your haki as he’d grabbed you with his bare hands more than once.
Diamante had been the one that had scared you the most though. Because by all rights he’d really had you that one time. Before your coat had torn at the last moment. Somehow you had slipped right out of it and run for all you were worth, bleeding and with a badly dislocated arm all the way back to Tsuru.
You couldn’t have been more than sixteen then and it had thoroughly shaken you. Even for all the abuse you’d known as a child. All the aggression and beatings you’d had before when you hadn’t submitted like your mother’s bosses had wanted you to. None of that was the same as Diamante had been with you then.
Because you’d seen it in his eyes and felt it in the horrible things he’d said to you as his hands had gone places they should not have.
Your first real brush with that level of opponent, both in physical strength and his ability to truly get within your head.
Maybe it was idiotic to still be holding onto that, considering the far worse things the man right here in front of you had done since.
But it was still different. Somehow it was. Bleeding, being grabbed and touched by Diamante with your arm almost twisted out of its socket at only sixteen. Versus being jaded and angry, several years older and stronger with a sexual appetite of your own by the time Doflamingo had first pushed himself between your legs in Mariejois.
It wasn’t the same in your mind, right or wrong as Doflamingo still watched you, as he did finish the new bandage.
“You’re still afraid of them?” He asked simply. And you really couldn’t read him well at all then, in his body language or tone.
You looked away from those red sunglasses before you could help it though. Dammit, this was not the right time for this, not minutes before your supposed public debut in Dressrosa.
“You wouldn’t understand.” You replied.
“Try me.” He said as his hands went onto your knees.
He was still squatted in front of you.
And he must have seen some look on your face, something different there that he wouldn’t let go of.
But you still couldn’t say it. Just like you’d never told anyone the full extent of what Doflamingo had done to you in Mariejois or on Sabaody.
And at last you saw real irritation cut across his expression when he got tired of waiting. “I’m not asking you twice.” His grip on your knees tightened as he spread them a little. Just enough to move his torso between them.
You took a breath, fear edging you back to the present and to him. Fine, you’d just goddamn say it then.
And those words did come running out, just everything at once. It was either all or nothing it seemed when it came to admissions like this.
“I don’t even remember what town it was. But Trebol got a hold of my feet with that mucus to slow me down. I should never have tried to take them both on by myself. I knew better, but you know how fast things can go sideways in the field. They had me alone and then my boots were in that snot, and I was trying to get out and Diamante was fucking right on top of me. He was hitting me with so much I couldn’t keep my haki up. So I was bleeding and they were trying to get into my head. Saying I was just a whore and laughing to each other about if I was a virgin or not…and then Diamante said he’d check.”
You heard a sound in Doflamingo’s throat. And you quieted as his face abruptly touched against yours. But he didn’t kiss you. His hands which had been squeezing your knees now relaxed as he began to stroke your thighs.
And you didn’t know what reaction you’d expected from him. But this was not it as you’d let Doflamingo lean further into you.
“How much did Diamante touch you?” Came the next quiet, but equally firm question.
Which you did make yourself answer once more. Because you didn’t want him to turn on you again. And even as humiliating as this all was, you tried to stay only with the facts, not the dark emotions they inspired.
“It was one hand under my skirt, a finger between my legs. And one hand in my shirt, under my bra. But I twisted away from him. Then he grabbed and dislocated my arm at the shoulder and my coat tore. Somehow I came right out of that coat. I broke out of the mucus with the last haki I could make, and I ran away from the both of them. I escaped.”
“Did he push that finger inside of you?” Doflamingo asked so specifically then. Almost as if this was what was truly important in it all to him.
And you felt your stomach turn, disgusting as it was. You did not like acknowledging any of it, but you still answered with the warlord’s face nuzzled oddly into yours all the while.
“No. His finger was just feeling me on the outside. He was about to I guess. Before I pulled away.”
And maybe there was the slightest hint of relief in the way Doflamingo’s back muscles relaxed at that revelation. But even that still wasn’t enough. As he did have another very personal question for you.
“How old were you really when you lost your virginity then?”
And fuck, why did it even matter at this point? But maybe this was his way of striking when the iron was already hot so to speak. He had you vulnerable enough right now to tell him the truth, and he never missed an opportunity did he?
“Eighteen.” You said simply.
“Consensual?”
“Yes.”
He pulled back slightly, and you felt that stare on you again. There was no smile at all. “It was Kuzan…wasn’t it?”
“Yes.” And you felt your face muscles tighten once more. You knew how insanely jealous Doflamingo could be. So that nervousness peaked within you all over again. You didn’t want to fight.
But his anger didn’t come. At least not in the way you would have expected. You saw his own face shift strangely as a smile formed instead. But it wasn’t like his normal ones at all.
“Well, I was only fifteen when I lost mine.” He said from nowhere as your eyes widened. “And it absolutely was not consensual.”
But at least a little like you then, it was like those words couldn’t stop once he’d let them out. Even as his smile began to grow. That expression contrasted the brief strain in his voice.
“It was a fucking powerhouse of a man. He could have just snapped my neck then and there with one hand. But I’d killed his whole crew to take his territory from him. So he was going to make me pay in spades of course. I’d never had sea prism cuffs on before or since. I didn’t know how to fight very well then. And certainly not with my devil fruit taken away once he got those cuffs on me. Even my haki was nothing to him then, he was just that angry. I’ll never forget…the smell of that. The sweat and the hate, getting fucked, bent over a crate in some sweltering warehouse. And you know who pulled him off of me and beat him to goddamn death right then and there for all of his trouble?”
And Doflamingo actually laughed, loud and long then, as if that was the far better part of that violent memory.
But the horror in your own face couldn’t be matched, not at all as you already knew what he was going to say next before the names came out of his mouth.
“Trebol and Diamante.” He grinned, his sunglasses still blocking his eyes from you. Not showing his true self in any of this. “They heard it and they found us before anyone else.”
And you were blinking back tears by then, something he surely saw in your own eyes as he did kiss you suddenly again to stop it.
But had he told you this as his own way of showing you weren’t alone in the things you’d experienced against your will? Or was it just to prove the complicated nature of the monsters he surrounded himself with? Your attackers were his rescuers.
Or…could even something as devastating as that be a memory he would willfully use to garner your sympathy? As another manipulation to make you pity him? Surely not…
And yet he was grinning fully once he broke that kiss with you again, watching you like your reaction was so much more important than his in all of this.
And your heart was torn, finding these stories all still the seeds of nightmares, no matter the motivation. And you didn’t want to let go of him either. Not at all as you again remembered that cowering response he’d shown you if only for that moment the other day as well.
You knew he couldn’t have faked that, not the reflex from when you’d hit him. And all the movements last night as those nightmares had torn through him when he was drunk.
That wasn’t fake either.
That was wholly real.
And yet Doflamingo did so easily unto others what had once been done to him, didn’t he? It didn’t change what he was at all. He’d held you down and forced his cock into you more than once now. Even when you cried, even if you screamed.
He was still so unpredictable. Even as he was starting to show you all the roots from which this evil had grown from.
He stole another long kiss from you though, as if he knew. As if he knew you were overthinking what he didn’t want you to and his hand moved up to stroke the side of your face before he finally pulled back away.
“My crew won’t hurt you again. That’s all you need to know. And I’m ordering you to report it to me if they do. Because nothing happens in Dressrosa without my permission. Understood?”
“Yes.” You said so simply. Yet inhaling though, fighting to draw those emotions back in regardless.
He didn’t seem rattled at all either now in comparison to you, as he finally stood and offered you his hand. “But let’s go. Everyone’s going to want to meet you. This is a big day for the future of our monarchy after all.”

And you had shaken that pain away as much as you could. You both falling back into your public personas. Everything was a careful production in times like this, that was certain as the two of you had released the grip on each other’s hands just before exiting up the stairs and onto the deck.
He let you walk yourself then. At least seeming to be in agreement there that neither of you wanted to portray you as overly weak or too injured in the public eye.
And of course his crew had already been lined up and ready, all staring at you as if you were still some mysterious creature who clearly did not belong amongst them.
You could only imagine the rumors rolling through the ship. Being that you’d never left their captain’s cabin a single time while at sea. And all the bloody sheets the servants had had to find and launder.
But you ignored their looks now. Your attention fully going to your first views of what would be your new home for an indefinite future.
The island nation of Dressrosa.
Mooring ropes were being cast out to the dock workers below as the large ship began the process of lining up against it.
You couldn’t see much yet though. Just as you’d heard, Dressrosa was difficult to appreciate from a distance.
A circular island fully surrounded by a massive cliff face of light brown, almost yellowish rock which now towered above the ship. Only the smallest slit had been cut into this natural fortress to accommodate the port entrance. Such a narrow view as you tried to look at the multicolored rooftops you could see just a hint of in that distance beyond.
Of course, the other thing that could not be ignored was the crowd which had gathered, fully awaiting the unloading of Doflamingo’s ship.
And he was back behind you then, just as you’d noticed the flashes of cameras in the distance.
“Welcome home, love.” That dark voice whispered near your ear once more as he’d bent briefly down. “Just follow my lead once we’re on the ground. They’re very excited today…so keep your head up and stay moving. We’re heading straight for the palace.”

There was that briefest bit of nostalgia for Doflamingo as his foot soldiers kept the walkway open, parting the crowd for the two of you when you’d first set foot onto these public docks.
It wasn’t so long ago after all when these very same peasants had been shouting his name alone in adulation for their new king.
But now they wanted to know firsthand if all the reports and speculation of his new interest were true.
In this, the kingdom of love and passion, its citizens were falling over themselves to get their first real looks at you. The woman who their most eligible bachelor and king had now expressed a public fondness for.
But as the king’s plateau and his palace atop it would soon be coming into view, he shifted on his feet, just enough to bump you with his hip as you both still walked.
The abrupt touch did have you looking up at him reflexively. Just like he wanted you to of course as he smiled down at you and another camera flashed.
That was going to be a good picture.
But over the shouts of those reporters and the crowd, they weren’t going to hear what he said to you either.
“You only get to see your new kingdom for the first time, one time, darling. Are you paying attention?”

And of course you were. But there were so many other stimuli to consider too. You knew even now you were the marines’ sole representation on this island. So you tried to stay professional, walking without a limp in your uniform despite the pain. And not too entranced in any new sight or bothered by all the attention.
The thing you were finding most distracting though were these little things jumping around near everyone’s legs.
You knew what they were, but you’d never seen them in person. Especially when some small metal dog ran out nearly underfoot. Barking artificially with its metallic shine of purple polka dots before a girl grabbed it up to reclaim it, giggling bashfully at you all the while.
The living toys of Dressrosa is what they were, seemingly ubiquitous in their dispersal throughout the crowd. Each and every toy that you’d noticed was unique as well. Oddly cute in their own ways, but still strange as they begged for recognition from their human masters.
You didn’t know if they were fully mechanical, or perhaps it was something more akin to the homies of Totto Land in Big Mom’s territory? If they contained even a piece of someone’s soul that would be far more disconcerting to you. As far as whose piece it was and if there had been full consent to make them.
Either way, it was certainly strange and something you’d be wanting to learn more about in the future. But everything would be similar in that regard right now. All new and your mind not really knowing where to start before that massive landmass and Doflamingo’s main residence itself were then above you.

“My officers are waiting for us in the Hall of Suits. I called them earlier to know when to expect us.” He’d spoken to you again as the lift doors had closed to bring you both up through the king’s plateau via the elevator. To him, it was a novelty to have to enter his own palace through the street level like this.
Normally he’d be coming either from the hidden underground port late at night, or just through one of the windows straight into his office or bedroom at the top levels if he really had been out in the city or beyond alone for some reason.
Which he’d absolutely be bringing you out there for a private tour of the island at some point. At least the public portions of it anyway. Secrets would have to come later. He knew you were too intelligent to be kept in the dark for very long. But he needed far more safeguards in place before you could learn too much.
Those real reasons he and Dressrosa both had become so much wealthier just in the two years he’d now run things here. The revelations would come in time. But when they did, he’d already promised himself that you’d have a ring on your finger and a baby in your arms. Because then you’d have no way to leave him without losing your life or the child’s. He’d make any other options of true escape impossible for you.
That was the primary reason for his urgency on that call with Caesar today. Because he did hear that clock ticking in his head. Tsuru would be coming soon. So every potential weapon he had, had to be used and it had to be now. He wasn’t going to come this far just to lose you so soon.
And it truly should be unholy, how easily he was still able to offer you a warmer smile even as these thoughts rattled in his head.
You had looked up at him then, and the need for closeness overcame him as he took your hand again. The reporters had been left outside. It was only his foot soldiers in the lift with you to witness that sudden affection.
Them staring in result of it too as the doors opened again and he walked you into the main palace entryway for the very first time, his hand tight around yours.
He liked the feel of it so much. Just like in Scylla as the two of you had walked those streets together. Your hand absolutely disappeared within his, but that warmth did not.
The sense of ownership so comforting to him along with it as he pulled you lightly, leaving the foot soldiers to their duties elsewhere.
And at the last moment, he was feeling content enough to add a bit more fun to this too.
“We’ll take a shortcut through the courtyard.” He spoke to alert you, but without explaining why of course.
Because he knew exactly which type of his royal subjects would now be lazing about out there in the evening sun hoping for even a crumb of his attentions.
Unless he instructed otherwise, every morning the palace gates would be opened for them. Of course there were rules, attire that was required for admission for instance.
Always, it was the smaller those bits of bikini fabric, the better as he’d then led you out under the archway and their giggling voices erupted immediately at first sight of him.
“Your highness! Welcome home!”
And oh they were in full form today. More lithe bodies splashing about and sprawled in all the reclined chairs by his pool than was even customary. But he knew they would be. They had wanted to see you, their new competition after all. They wanted to judge for themselves how serious he was in all of this.
Even he wasn’t narcissistic enough to hope for much response from you however. Not immediately anyway. You just weren’t that easy to fluster in public when in uniform, with some exceptions of course.
But he would absolutely enjoy waiting to see if you carved out your own territory and put these girls in their place in the long run. They meant nothing to him of course, just time wasters to warm his cock in. And surely they all knew that too. But money talked, and he’d compensate them nicely when they performed well enough. They also heavily enjoyed whatever brief clout came from being his flavor of the week of course.
“Good evening, ladies. It’s good to be back.” Doflamingo did finally respond, letting those women hang on his every word as he tried to watch your reaction out of the corner of his eye regardless.
And you were watching them at least, not looking too impressed as he squeezed your hand a little harder.
“Perhaps we’ll be back outside tomorrow. I need to show the captain around the palace of course, but it’s been a long day already.”
Rarely would he have initiated conversation with them to this degree either, especially when just passing through.
But it was all for fun right now as he did see those pouty faces of theirs in response.
“Oh well, maybe tomorrow then! If she doesn’t have a bathing suit, she can borrow one of ours!” And they were giggling again. That mix of false politeness and challenge all at once.
You rolled your eyes, and that show at last of even the briefest negative emotion from you did make him laugh.
“We’ll see. I may have her too busy for all that.” And that was said in his deeper register. Enough so that that look on your face became more of a glare directed up at him as he grinned in return.
You didn’t like being hinted at as just his newest conquest either did you? But of course you were more than that. He just couldn’t help but be a bit catty too when there was so much of it going around at the moment.
He was tempted to grab your ass on the way out of the courtyard too. Enough that they would see it. But it wasn’t worth a full fight with you in this moment. Not when he knew you were about to be stressed enough as he brought you back inside and down that next corridor to the Hall of Suits.

My Doflamingo fixation compelled me to write Chapter 1 of this fic initially as a smutty one shot after almost three years of my not writing anything. I just had to get it out of my system. And to my shock, a few people actually enjoyed it! So, loving the One Piece fandom as I have been, I kept going wanting to contribute the little bit that I could to the larger OP fan-fiction sphere in the name of this pink bastard.
Now that this has become a multi chapter story (rare for me even when I did use to write more back in the day), there’s concepts I want to touch on that I feel I couldn’t do otherwise in a one shot. And for those that have read this from the very first chapter until now, I wanted to give you that preview. So that you can decide if this is still where you want to follow.
The main thing I have been waffling on is whether or not Doflamingo gets his way on baby trapping reader. It’s like pandora’s box for me as I keep going back to it, picking it up, and then putting it back down. But in the end, I’ve decided to open the box. Because I, personally, have to know. I want to see which Doflamingo we get when he’s actually a biological father since he’s so weird about his bloodline anyway. And I feel it would have to be by choice like this. Because he’s too smart to let that happen by accident. So I can’t do it without all the setup that we now have.
Also, I want to see how this will affect Law. Because it absolutely will. When a truly innocent child is now thrown into the works (Law grew up with Buffalo, Baby 5, and Dellinger and knows they’re already as screwed up as he used to be). But also since this kid will be the next Corazon in title. So to carry that name, that innocence, and likely a strong family resemblance to their late uncle…it would be a mind trip for Law. Would he be determined to save them from their father’s influence in the same way that Cora saved him? Or would he still only be worried about his own revenge?
That being said, Doflamingo will definitely suffer for this underhanded bullshit he’s about to pull on reader. Karma is coming. I promise. He’s going to be put through it emotionally. Charybdis that started it all in Chapter 1 is going to be an island that will return to hurt them both. I’m also not done with Aokiji or Crocodile in this. They are diehard DoflamingoxReader antis. Aokiji because he truly cares about reader, and Crocodile because he’s watching a repeat of his own past trauma at Doflamingo’s hands and just does not want that shitbird to win yet again.
So we’ll see what happens. Nothing is set in stone as I do write in a very improv heavy style of letting the characters take it where it will go. But that’s what I can say for now. Thank you, thank you, thank you again! 😭

I sort of rambled about this in the tags of a post, but I wanted to make a proper one myself since I find it very fascinating (law backstory flashback you will always be famous). so one of my favorite scenes is this one:
it is a very meaningful moment for these two, a very clear turning point to their dynamic at that time, and it's made even clearer by how law starts referring to rocinante as cora-san afterwards.
now, there are several instances throughout dressrosa arc where the similarities between doflamingo and law are mentioned, with the former going as far as to call them both birds of a feather. and as it's shown in the flashbacks, reading about flevance was enough to trigger doflamingo's traumatizing memories of his and rocinante's childhood, which seems to motivate him to bring law into the family. the way law seeks to lash out at everything then is reminiscent of doflamingo's own worldview and experiences, at least from his pov:
rocinante noticed those similarities as well and though he tried to (questionably) discourage all kids from joining the DQ pirates by scaring them away, law's case in particular prompted him to bring up the topic with sengoku at some point, as seen during sengoku's conversation with law.
sengoku repeats what everyone says about the amber lead disease, that it's incurable, and warns rocinante not to favor law much for it could jeopardize his mission. whether rocinante's agreement here was reluctant or not ig is up to each reader but learning of law's real/full name (his relation to the D clan) reignites his initial worries and some more, considering the historic opposition/threat the D represents wrt celestial dragons and how this could endanger him if doflamingo were to find out.
so there's even bigger reasons for rocinante to not want law to become doflamingo 2.0. though as he later admits amidst his drunken speech, the will of D no longer matters to him when it comes to saving law, as rocinante's journey to cure his disease ends up making him feel genuine sympathy for law beyond that. he's forced to witness first hand how much discrimination and dehumanization law's subjected to time and time again, because of his disease and ties to flevance. before all this, law's mentioned his imminent death more than a few times and does it after too. and during the first disastrous hospital visit, he tells rocinante: see? I'm not even human anymore!
which brings me to this bit of dialogue:
for all of law's similarities and/or parallels to doflamingo, it's worth noting that rocinante experienced the same things his brother did and due to his younger age probably understood even less of what was happening or why they were being targeted in the first place. compared to doflamingo, rocinante also has way less dialogue in their backstory but one he does have is this:
this happens in the part where rocinante, doflamingo and their father are strung up on a wall and shot at with arrows. the villagers all express their anger, grief, the violence and suffering they've gone through because of celestial dragons like the donquixotes. albeit different in nature, along with doflamingo, rocinante experienced a kind of dehumanization as well.
so, again: for all that law might resemble doflamingo the most, I do wonder... how much of himself did rocinante see in law, though subconsciously? a kid who lost his family, subjected to the kind of violence that led him to resign himself to death (seek it, even) and was treated by others as inhuman because of circumstances out of his control? it might've not been what rocinante believed to be his own motivations to help law, likely never actually saw or realized the similarities they shared, but imo it adds some more depth to his kindness and sympathy towards law.
this also marks a stark difference between the donquixote brothers. whereas doflamingo got caught up in a very vicious cycle (which traces back to the existence of celestial dragons as a whole and was further enabled by others like trebol) that he planned to continue with law, rocinante was able to see past law's rage and acknowledge the pain beneath. after all, rocinante knows too what it's like to be hurt by others who've been terribly hurt first and became someone who wasn't exactly keen on returning the sentiment, unlike doflamingo, regardless of whether it was in his nature to be so or if it's something that was nurtured as he grew up. that's not to say rocinante was an endlessly kind saint (he had his own biased views) or that he wasn't capable of violence (he did beat up all those medical staff and burn down hospitals for example), but those incidents weren't caused by a sense of entitlement on his part or such. he didn't blame law for stabbing him or in general for seeking revenge against the world, ultimately chose to protect and save him instead - which, indeed, changed law's life. as law presently insists, he owes cora not just that very life but his heart as well.
lastly - law himself might not disagree with doflamingo insisting they're of the same sort, but law is also the kid who couldn't fathom leaving his dying little sister behind. who softened and lowered his guard after receiving genuine kindness/love/sympathy for the first time in years. who saved a little mink and risked his own neck later on to save a boy who'd just lost his brother in the worst way possible. who didn't even consider putting his crew in danger when he knew (and expected) he might die and his whole revenge plan against doflamingo was rooted in love and grief to begin with, the same upon which the foundation of his crew was built and is a tribute to. last we saw of him, law orders bepo to go back in winner island because can't leave the crew behind, etc etc, so there's that too. how much of it is law's own nature and personality? how much is due to the impact cora had on him? both? would've doflamingo turned out differently or made different choices if his parents had tried harder to school him out of those CD views or if he'd had more positive influences aside from them, instead of the people he ended up surrounded by? would he have become the same kind of person he is rn no matter what? interesting stuff to think about.

Eh, 1078's worth it’s own post. We open with an interesting little exchange between Stussy & Sentomaru. The way they talk about the mission and the delicacy has me wondering if at least one big outcome is about to pop off. There’s another reason in this chapter I’m wondering, it’s not even that crazy of a theory. I definitely think it’d be a cool end, Wano’s time hops give the Grand Fleet a lot of time to move in assuming the awakening made Luffy’s vivre card act weird. Capturing Saturn would more than adequately fit the bill for historic proportions.
Of course, this pair having this conversation also is worth pointing out. Sentomaru & Stussy are both figures we’ve pointed out keeping that thematic bleedover from Wano firmly in Kiku’s territory. Look at em side-by-side, I’d say they each serve as a good representation of one of her halves standing alone. We’ll circle back to how that idea bookends.
The fuck Luffy? Just deadass calling Kaku Usopp. Seriously bro...what a heads up move! I mean, gag aside it was quick thinking to both not leave himself 2v1 with CP0 and to account for Zoro’s big weakness. But it is also really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really funny he called Kaku Usopp and Kaku’s just grumbling about it. I couldn’t not mention it. Seriously though, this flashback.
First off, it’s a great quick version of the big idea I’ve been on about. Does that make sense? We’ve had the little breadcrumbs hiding in plain sight. Just like Kanjuro by the end people had actually strung together a few good points about who it was. In essence, what we saw with York is a lot like the structure I laid out. What I’ll say is this though; I just don’t think it’s done. Too truncated. Same logic as getting Vegapunk’s big lore dump out of the way early. Mr. Narrator is coming in to make it very clear we’re not done yet. This is about to pop off into something much bigger. Egghead might be more Punk Hazard-length than Zou, who knows?
This panel is also why I’m excited for the Grand Fleet! Just...does it not feel like the iconic End-of-Dressrosa panel about their future exploits? For the here and now though, of course we do see the traitor plotline ended up being rather straightforward in an interesting way.
Bookends. Much like the angle of starting through Sento/Stussy, York is someone interesting to end on. This last stamp here made her a foil. Oh, so it was the tall, cute unassuming one? The gluttonous, vulgar one who’s goal is the absolute antithesis of Kiku’s egalitarian ethos? I’ll take it.
One Piece is always hard to predict but that seems like an easy way for all of this to end. The scrum goes on a little longer, Robin is moving down to this basement with Chopper so we can confront York easy enough. Kizaru ratchets up the tension but now we are finally ready to face an Admiral. His plan to buy time is thwarted by the arrival of the Grand Fleet demolishing the reinforcements. If we want to, there is ample thematic territory to weave in a new quartermaster orchestrating that. We can see what happened just like we did this chapter or we can finally pull the trigger on the Chekov’s Gun of X Drake’s report. Either way, you have a defeated admiral and potentially a captured Gorosei to cement the Straw Hats as the cream of the crop in all of these worldwide rumblings. In a way that otherwise leaves a completely blank slate to set up whatever we get into from this island on.

Chapter 1068 — She blinded me with science
Okay, I loved Stussy from the start and she continues to win my heart:
CP0 have invaded Egghead Island, and find themselves at the end (or cold front) of a non-meeting so chilly that Kaku fancies himself a cup of tea (it is also snowing).
We're reminded, from Shaka, I think, that G-14 is near by, so we're bound to see Smoker, Tashigi, (Doll) and Mocha again this arc. Not to mention Akainu's daughter.
CPO are having none of it and infiltrate (or invade, really) and Kaku launches into the sky to check out the upper reaches of the island.
Stussy's got prior knowledge of the system, but doesn't let anyone know until Kaku's
born the brunt of the beam. Rob Lucci's deadpan, "You should really mention this kind of thing beforehand," and a dusty Kaku letting Stussy know he's none too pleased.
"Well, at least you're not chilly anymore, right? <3" She's got a point.
The Atlas Vegapunk comes charging along. I thought the "Dr. Atlas! <3" was Stussy at first. Was it? It might be, as it seems to be speech tic to end her sentences with <3. So I guess she's as Southern Hospitality sweet as a madam running her brothel. Atlas. Shaka warned you.
Rob Lucci in zoan form! Oof. Poor Atlas.
Then look who comes in to witness or breeze past the carnage! Luffy and the Pigeon Guy got history. Gonna add Bonney's current supernova as luggage fate to another post. And are y'all excited about this?
First of all, Sentomau! I've always been interested in him (wish he'd been the her I first thought he was). And they're the seraphim we've seen: Boa Hancock, Mihawk and Jinbei. All of the shichibukai have animal themes, don't they? Crocodile, Gecko, Bear, Flamingo (?) and let's hope for an S-Seal or an S-Snow Leopard!
And did Kuma receive a call from Vegapunk, or is it a connection with S-Bear that has him launching himself to Egghead Arc (unless he's actually on his way to save Law, heh). Bonney obviously hasn't been a drawcard, for whatever reason, but maybe her being out cold triggered something.
King's wings. I'm sure we're gonna get a deeper flashback for both him and Kaidou (and maybe Big Mom), considering how involved, willingly or not, they are in the MADS experiments at Punk Hazard, and that King's DNA (and that of the shichibukai) is being used to create the seraphim (at least, I think so). AND
All of these panels.
1st. Luffy obviously doesn't talk all that much with Robin or Law, or their paths just don't connect when CP0 are lurking around.
2nd. They obviously didn't come across Jinbei's path at Wano.
3rd. RIP Izou. I guess that Nami and Usopp witnessed you saving them from the Beast Pirates, but not the interaction with CP0, right? And apart from Nami and Usopp, did any of the other Straw Hats have much of an interaction with him? They all knew O-Kiku. What a waste of a character's potential. Ah.
4th. Not might, but I guess Luffy didn't catch sight of the guy that interrupted his fight with Kaidou (I can't remember), and even if he did, didn't make the connection with CP0.
Anyway, I'm glad that the betrayed CP9 members are back, but I really did want to see more, feel more, of the menace of the Dressrosa/Wano CPO. Loved their designs. And I guess that Nico Robin is fair game again!

It’s strange. It’s odd. Feelings can wake you up, weird sensations too, without there even being a contact with your body. Sometimes at night people wake up with a feeling of dread, or a chill running down their spine. Others from the lack of warmth around them, suddenly realizing they had battled with their blankets during the night.
I, however, felt watched. I was also very aware that someone was in the room with me, so I opened my eyes just a little bit to peek. I could only see shoes, but it was enough to trigger a fight or flight response in this still sleepy state.
Looking somewhere behind the person, they were sitting on the rolling chair from the desk but facing me, I focused and teleported behind them. Let’s write down this moment as the most fruitless attempt of taking someone down.
The moment I was behind them, not only did I realized it was Law, but also in a quick gesture of his hands he uttered the word “Shambles” and brought me back to the bed. He threw me the pillow with which he had shambled me, and rolled up to me with a smirk. “Are you done?”
“Do you know how creepy it is to watch someone sleep?” I whispered/yelled, still not fully in control of how my voice was going to be.
“I knocked. Three times.”
“Sure, whatever. Just don’t,” I waved my hand in front of me, “Do that again, you scared me shitless.” I said, giving him a side glance. “And saying ‘I knocked three times’ does not justify the fact that you were watching me sleep, by the way.”
“I was going to wake you up soon. I need to change your bandages, among other things.” He explained coldly, bucking his hips to bring the chair closer to the bed.
His legs were put strangely with how long they were and how low the chair was. “Maybe, elevate the seat?” I suggested with a slightly mocking smile. He threw me a glare in response before patting under the seat to finally find the lever.
This time it was good and he was almost hovering over me. “It’s useless, I’m going to stand up, I can’t do shit sitting down.” He complained, kicking the chair back. It hit the desk with a bit of strength but only enough to rattle the jars on the wooden furniture before calming down.
“Someone’s on edge, you’re not usually so tensed.”
Ignoring my words, Law told me to turn around and take off my clothes once more so that he could remove the bandages. When he did, it stuck to the wounds, but I could finally breathe properly and it was a relief. “I did not have the right lighting yesterday, but your wounds are bad.” He scolded, undoing most of the things he had done last night, saying it was shitty and he shouldn’t have done it in such a state.
“I know, I fucked up.” I mumbled, looking over my shoulder.
Then a silence.
“It’s nothing I can’t fix.” He breathed softly; his gaze ever so analytical as he redid all that he did last night. Another silence followed, then I felt his fingers graze my skin tenderly. “You should have told me the bandages were too tight.”
“I thought it was supposed to be that way, you know like, keep the blood in-“ “You also have to keep the blood flowing, you’re lucky you didn’t pass out,” He spat. “I can see the marks of all over your skin.” This time it was almost a guilty tone, but I could be wrong.
“It’s alright, I think it’s because I had to take deep breaths when we ran earlier.” I told him casually. It was strange, the tension that had been there for so long was slowly starting to fade. I believe it was because I was rested but it could have been for some other unknown reason.
I hissed throughout the whole process of Law cleaning my wounds and putting some ointment on it. Without much emotion, he handed me a part of the bandages and start working with me as we wrapped it around my torso once more. It was less tight than last time, and Law made sure to tell me to remove them in a few hours to let the wounds breathe.
He waited for me to dress back before telling me, “Hands, now.”
Right, I had a lot of other cuts all over my body. Without realizing it, I just put my hands behind my back and waited for him to start working on it until I realized what I had done. Closing my eyes for a moment, I giggled nervously. “Fuck, that’s not-“ I quickly turned around on the bed, showed my hands in front, not looking at him when I did so.
All I heard was a short huff from Law. Then he started checking everything, rolling up my sleeves to look at the cuts on my arms and cleaning them again without a word. I could feel my body heating up.
His hands were holding my arms so delicately, I wondered what it’d feel in another setting. A more intimate settings, where they’d travelled from the back of my thighs to my back, then my stomach-
“Why are you avoiding my gaze?” Law’s voice interrupted my thoughts, hearing what he’d said, I looked up from the ground and focused somewhere closer to his eyes.
“That’s not my eyes, it’s my earrings.” He sighed, moving to my other arm carefully. He wasn’t pushing, but I could feel the mood turning strange.
Maybe I could come clean? He seemed to have calmed down, maybe I could tell him why I followed him to Punk Hazard. “Maybe I’m embarrassed.” I said, looking to the side. My face was heating up more and more, my heart beating faster. I was determined to tell him.
“About the hands? Restraints is something a lot of people-“
I interrupted him with a loud exasperated sigh, “God no, not that. Please don’t mention that, let that moment disappear from your mind, please.”
“Maybe I don’t want it to.” He finished taking care of my wounds, but did not go away.
Instead, he stepped closer, towering me. His hands rose, one placed on my shoulder and the other brushing the exposed skin of my neck. “Turns out you might actually enjoy the leash in the end…” My skin was set aflame, I finally looked up and met his gaze in pure shock and surprise. Yet some part of me was delighted by that suggestion, his eyes looked at mine with something close to boredom but it wasn’t that, it was something darker.
However, it quickly disappeared, and he stepped away from me with a grunt. “Forget what I said, rest. It’ll be a while before we arrive-“
“No, no, don’t do that- Law, don’t throw it under the rug.” I said quickly before grabbing his good arm and desperately trying to have him stay, “Ask me again, please, ask me again.”
He was confused, I could see it on his face as he asked, “What?”
“Ask me why I followed you-“
“Why did you follow me to Punk Hazard, why can the rest of my crew obey a simple order but you can’t?” Okay, maybe I deserved it. Maybe I poked the bear too much, but he still said it in a quite aggressive way that almost made me bolt away and abandon my mission. But instead, I answered.
“Maybe Shachi, Penguin, Bepo and rest of the crew are not here because…” I gripped the hem of my shirt and looked off to the many cabinets in the room. Night was slowly falling and it was soon time to eat, then our shift... But I continued, “Because they don’t love you the same way I do-“
“Why would you do that?”
I covered my mouth at the incoming rejection and took a deep breath before asking him what he meant by that. “I’m your Captain-“
“Don’t you think I already know that? That’s what makes it worse! But I still wanted to make sure you were a good person…”
“Why would you love me?” He asked, stepping closer to me.
I took a step back, my legs hitting the bed and I pushed him away. “Are you really asking this? Just because you’re stubborn and grumpy doesn’t mean you’re unlovable Law. You’re also very kind, in case you didn’t notice, and you make me laugh… I just feel nice around you… serene…”
Running my hands over my face, I sat back on the bed, bringing my legs to my chest before resting my elbows on my knees as I sighed. I had to hold back my tears until this was over. “Maybe it’s for the best if I’m not in the crew anymore, at least it won’t be awkward.” I muttered.
“I have a hard time trusting people.” He stated while sitting in front of me. I hesitantly looked up, confused. “And I’m harsh. I have nightmares, I am bitter, I have goals, people around me they don’t live long because my goals are dangerous.”
Nodding, I kept my gaze on his, “You also care for people around you. You do everything for their safety. You warn everyone, of the danger, we stick around because we care about you. For someone bitter you’re very sweet with your crew,” I chuckled dryly, “And the nightmares? It’s a package deal with this life, is it not? Like you said, it’s not a kid’s game Law. We know what we signed up for.” I ran my hands over my face once more, exhaling loudly. It was relieving to have confessed, even though now I felt sad from whatever this was. Had I been rejected?
“Never run into danger ever again.” He said out of nowhere, I felt his weight next to me. He was sitting with an arm on one his knee, while the other leg dangled off the bed.
“That, I can’t promise, sorry.” I mumbled.
“You said you weren’t part of the crew anymore, but you are. You never left it, I just tried to keep you away from this.” His voice was a lot softer than it usually was, but that’s because we were alone and he did not have to pretend. He did not have to be the leader.
“You could have said so, instead of being a real ass.” I believe the nerves of having bared my feelings made me stuttered there but I ignored it.
“What would you have said if I told you to stay because I did not want you to get hurt?”
I pondered the question a moment before laughing and admitting with a tired grin, “I would have told you that I knew what I was doing and come anyway.”
“Exactly, you are very much like Mugiwara-ya just for that.” He explained with the ghost of a smile on his face.
“Ah but you get along well with him, so it’s alright, I don’t mind.” There was a short moment of silence, he turned his face slowly and looked at me with a smug smile.
“I must have a thing…” He turned around on the bed and grabbed my ankles before pulling me towards him, I almost fell forward when I lost the support under my elbows but played along. “… For impulsive idiots,” Taking off his hat, he set it next to him while still looking at me, I could see his eyes a lot better. There seemed to be a glimmer of playfulness in them that I could not get enough of.
I giggled nervously, losing all my sentence-making skills. I wanted to reply something, anything, maybe something witty even but I could feel his hands gliding from my ankles to my knees before slowly going to my thighs. A dumb, nervous, smile was painted on my face, I knew it but I couldn’t stop it. My heart was trying to jump out of my chest, I could feel it pounding rapidly, no signs of calming down. “Haha what- what do you think you’re you doing?” I managed to utter; my nervousness was too present.
“I thought you could read me like an open-book. But it seems you’re as bad at doing that, as you are at listening to my orders.” He grinned before moving one hand to my jaw. He splayed it there, angling my head as he stared down at me with what I could only describe as longing. Was this happening? Was this really happening? I parted my lips, surprised by his words then smiled, it was closer to a rictus than a smile, “Seriously, what are you doing? Law…”
A wicked smile was now displayed on his lips as he leaned in even more, his nose brushing against mine. I could feel his breath on my lips and could also smell the rubbing alcohol on his hands. I grabbed the lapel of his coat and tried to bring him closer, he chuckled and held back, his thumb caressing my cheek slowly. “Look at you, so eager-“ I was not here to play games, as he talked I tugged hard on his coat and brought his lips against mine. His hand slithered from my jaw to the back of my head where I felt his fingers thread in my hair, feeling his nails scrape against my skull sent shivers down my spine.
I’d never thought this day would happen, but I was enjoying every bit of it. He was smiling against my lips, his tongue darting out as he wordlessly asked for permission. I welcomed it with as much eagerness as him, we broke the kiss to breathe for a moment and looked at each other. His eyes were filled with lust and what I could only hope was longing or love, for I knew my eyes were filled with those. “Stay by my side, I don’t think I could bear seeing you hurt again…” He breathed sadly.
Looking at him with a bit of doubt, I whispered, “Are you… is this… can you say it please… can you say it so that I know it’s real? I don’t-“ I let out a nervous laugh, it earned me a slight frown from Law but he ghosted his lips against mine ever so lightly. “I’m in love with you.” He breathed against my lips, I shivered and muttered “Good,” Now smiling, I brought my eyes to his and said, “I’m not leaving your side if you stay by mine… dear…” I saw his face turn a different shade of red, it was the cutest sight. His lips met mine once more, this time with more passion.
My hands travelled from his coat to his stomach where I barely grazed it before gripping his hips. He hissed into the kiss, pulling away for a second, “Careful, it stills hurts,” He breathed out before going for the kiss once more, I stopped him and looked at his stomach with a frown, “Sorry, we should probably stop-“ “No, come here,” With a hand now on the small of my back and the other under one of my thighs, he brought me over his lap where I could look down at him, my knees resting on the mattress on either side of him. He was careful with his touch on my back, and while my arms still hurt, I couldn’t stop myself from letting my hands travel to his shoulders before sliding my fingers inside his messy hair.
This time I was the one to angle his head for the kiss, my fingers brushing over his earrings. He smiled smugly and pecked my lips tenderly, “You’re hurt, so I’ll let you do as you please but if it was up to me, I’d take you right now,” He whispered seductively before kissing my neck, I was giggling at first at the sensation of his beard against my skin but soon enough I was gasping and pressing his head closer to my neck. Those weren’t kisses, he was leaving hickeys all over my skin, not giving me any sign of stopping as his hands ventured under my clothes and grabbed my ass.
I moaned and rested my head against his before asking him to stop, “We should rest first, before…” “Before what? We’re just kissing, did you have something else in mind?” Seeing his sly expression, I grabbed his hat and shoved it on his face, pulling it down to cover his eyes. “Nope, nothing. Let’s head back to the others.”
Letting out an annoyed sigh, he put his cap properly and kissed my neck one last time before helping me up with him. “We won’t be alone until we arrive at Zou, are you sure you want to go back already?”
I was already turned towards the door, but I faced him once more upon hearing his subtle plea for more. “Does my Captain crave more of me?” I asked cockily, there was something empowering in knowing I had the same effect on him, he had on me. He seemed taken aback for a moment, before his expression returned to his usual scowl.
“Let’s go back then,”
I blocked his path and placed a hand on his chest before he could step forward, “Not yet, you’re right. I guess… I could use some… some you time.” I mumbled. I didn’t want to admit how much I actually wanted him, if not needed him.
I wanted to act cool and composed, but I was not yet ready to go back inside and act like nothing happened. “Some ‘me time’? I think you should be clearer,” He said with a serious expression, but I think he was being playful. I think he was saying this because I had told him the same thing earlier, but I had done my fair share of being straightforward with my feelings for today.
He hummed as if to nudge me, without doing so physically. Clearing my throat, I shrugged, “I’m not going to be all touchy and shit once we get back to them… I don’t really-“ Sighing I looked up at him, hoping he wouldn’t get mad, “I’m not into PDA okay? But I really want to be close to you right now, I,” a shaky laugh escaped from my lips as I thought of how stupid it sounded, but I continued, “I still can’t believe this is real, nor that you are alive… I could really use some more of…” I took a deep breath and sighed just as loudly, “More of your touch, I want to hold you okay? I really, really want to hold you right now.”
I heard him chuckle lightly before he put everything down on the desk once more and looked back at me with the smallest of smiles. “I’m glad we’re on the same page,” he started, pulling me closer by putting his hands on my hips. “I’m not going to be, as you say, ‘all touchy and shit’ either. Not in front of them, but I can’t promise that once we’re back with at the Polar Tang.” He continued with a content smile this time. His hands travelled from my hips to my shoulders where he wrapped his arms around me. “I think Black Leg is still cooking for now, we have a bit of time in front of us.”
I felt relieved that he did not tell me off, but also very glad that we were, as he said, on the same page. Hesitantly, I nudged his hand with mine. He laughed grabbed me gently, then led me back to the bed where he treated my wounds. “You know, you don’t have to ask to hold my hand.” He said softly once we sat down and I was glued to his side, my legs over his and my back slightly off the wall to avoid putting more pressure on the wounds. “Good to know… you can too, if you’d like.” I said with a timid smile.
There was a calming silence between us, it felt comforting. Just knowing he was there.
“You’re a lot calmer than I’ve seen you these past few days.” He remarked, patting his lap as if to invite me to come over. Chuckling, I turned him around so that we were face to face, in the length of the single bed, and nudged his legs apart to sit there while my legs were on either side of him. That way I wasn’t putting my weight on him, but on the mattress. I saw the way his cheeks lit up but did not mention it. “Well, you know, I’m only calmer because I lost a lot of blood.” I quoted him, earning a short laugh as he slithered his hands to my waist where he held me there.
“I thought you were getting shy for a second,” He smirked.
“Me? Never. Never, no, no. There’s no need to, haha…” I gripped his knees like it was an armchair when he brought them mid-way to his chest, his feet still on the ground, on each side of me.
“That would be something, considering how you were kissing me moments ago.” I never thought he’d be this cocky, I thought he’d be awkward and playing hard to get but he was having a lot of fun seeing me squirm.
“You kissed me,” I corrected. But I did not really remember who had started it, that moment was too foggy even though it made my stomach flip just from thinking about it.
He laughed so beautifully just from what I said. While it was beautiful, I looked to the side embarrassed. “You kissed me, I know because I can still remember how eager you were to-“ He started, but I interrupted him,
“We kissed, both of us, it’s a shared action, okay? Let’s not talk about it, let’s just leave it at that.” I grumbled, my face probably flaring up by now. I heard him hum, but was it in agreement? I hardly doubt that. From the look on his face, he was enjoying this. Too much.
“If I had been the one who had initiated the kiss, it would have gone like this,” Suddenly, I was pulled onto his lap once more and he was gripping my chin between his index finger and thumb. He was keeping my mouth slightly open, I tried to close it but he’d chuckled and opened it once more. I tried to stare at his hand but he tutted me and told me to look at him. “I would have kept you like this a little while, seeing how you’d react,” then he gently brushed his thumb over my lips, smiling faintly, his burning gaze was piercing mine.
His voice dropped lower, “Then I would have tested the water, like this,” he pushed his thumb inside my mouth and pulled my lower lip down, showing my teeth. My heart was beating fast, I wanted to say something, get the upper hand but I also wanted to see what he’d do. “You’re breathing unevenly, am I getting to you?” He whispered with a smug smile. I did not reply, instead I was lost on the new sensation of his free hand trailing up very slowly from my hip to side.
With as much care, he wrapped his hand around my neck. It wasn’t tight, he was barely grazing his fingers on the skin, each of his fingers dancing across my skin like butterfly wings. He slid his index and thumb back on my chin and raised it to have a better access to my neck where I heard him sigh. “Beautiful,” I looked at him from that weird angle, my eyes almost closed as I tried to keep my gaze on him. When he dipped his head, I felt his tongue on my skin and gasped, gripping his shoulder from the sudden warm sensation.
Since we had just come back from outside, his hands were just as frigid as mine but we couldn’t care less. Our warm bodies were enough for now as I was melting in his cold touch.
He left a trail of open mouth kisses on my neck, then full ones on my collarbone before gradually moving behind my earlobe where I could feel his even breath caressing my hair. I gasped at the sensation, leaning against his touch more. I was gripping his shoulders tight but did not dare move in fear of missing out on more of him. “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?” He whispered, his teeth scraping against my ear, the feeling of his beard joined quickly after.
I let out a breathless sound, it made him chuckle. “Suddenly so silent… I haven’t even kissed you yet.” I made a sound close to a grunt but it came out as a whine with how leaned back my head was. “I like to take my time,” he uttered against the skin of my neck once more before grazing his tender lips against it then sucking on it, leaving more marks. “Very slowly… getting you to the edge…” He hummed against my skin, his hands deftly touching the right spots.
No matter how cold it was starting to be outside, I felt like my skin was on fire. Each of his touch sparked something new. “You haven’t answered my question, perhaps I should stop-“
Looking back at him I frowned, “No,” My voice was so low I wouldn’t have been surprised if he hadn’t heard me, he grinned widely at my words and tilted my head back once more, resuming what he was doing. One of his hands gripped the back of my neck surely, it wasn’t painful but not very soft either. The other brushed over each spot after he kissed them. He took his time, and I was left, mouth open, eyes closed, enjoying every second of it.
I was not ready to tell him but I was relishing in the feeling of his hands against my skin. Part of me knew that those hands did a lot of things, not all good, and he had the power to kill me if he could. But right now, they were sending shocks coursing through my body, they were like feathers grazing my very being, they were a sinfully pleasing grip the perfect amount of pain and pleasure.
Lost in my thoughts, I had not realized he had tilted my head forward. When I slowly opened my eyes, I met his half-lidded grey ones. “Look at you, I’m barely touching you and you’re already at my mercy…” He leaned in, his nose brushing against mine just like before except this time I was drowning in his touch. Both of his hands were holding my head, splayed with his thumbs on my cheeks and the rest of his fingers behind my ears.
With his lips merely breaths away from mine, he whispered, “If I had been the first one to kiss, it would have gone like this,” then he our lips met and it was different than any previous kiss. It was wanting, longing, like two people finally meeting after years of yearning for one another’s touch, finally succumbing to that craving for intimacy. But it was also, needy and desperate, like drinking a fresh glass of water in the middle of summer, you don’t want to miss one drop, you want it all for yourself and you take it, the biggest gulps of your life. It felt refreshing in that warm summer heat, but only for that mere moment.
When we broke apart, we were both breathless. I was going to speak up, but he started kissing my cheeks, my neck, my collarbone, carefully avoiding my wounds. I chuckled and pressed my hands onto his cheeks, trying to stop him but he moved back to my neck where he kissed me again and again. This time it wasn’t lustful, nor sensual, I felt loved, my once shattered heart from seeing him falling from high above was slowly filling up with so much warmth. “Law, my god Law, let me- let me love you too, please.” I said with a chuckle, it sounded poetic but all I wanted was to kiss him as much as he was kissing me.
“We’re going to have to go back, I want to enjoy this a bit longer,” He uttered against my throat, I let my head fall back as I laughed, giving him a better access for a few seconds before pushing his head away.
“I never thought you’d be such a romantic.” I said with an embarrassed smile, he was looking at me with such a strong emotion, I had a hard time discerning which one it was. Leaning my forehead against his, I sighed and closed my eyes. “Are you sure-“ I was cut off when Law spurted, “I also thought you were dead…”
Opening my eyes, I realized what plagued his pretty eyes, it was fear. Fear and worry. I was about to ask what he meant when he continued, looking at our now intertwined hands. “Doflamingo said he had placed a bounty on your head, and if you weren’t dead by his own hands, then the civilians would have gotten you.” I frowned, gripping his hands tighter. “He showed me my vivre card. The one I had given you, at that moment I thought you were gone.” I gasped, realizing where it had disappeared. I had no clue how they took it from my pockets but now it made sense.
“I’m sorry… I don’t know how they took it, it was in my pockets the entire time-“
Law chuckled dryly, shaking his head. “He fooled us both. But now he’s defeated, I don’t want to think about him anymore. Let’s forget about it.” He said with a certain finality to his words.
While he was looking off to the side, I observed his solemn grey eyes. I did not know what to say to help him, I didn’t think he had gone through this much. Tapping my finger on his hand, I grinned when he looked back at me, a brow quirked.
“I’ll admit I kissed you first but-“ he laughed, his head hitting the wall behind him. A relieved smile on his lips, relieved and happy.
Telling him to shut up, I continued, “But, I think we should talk about you telling me you want to put a leash around my-“ “That’s a topic for when we’re back on the Polar Tang, I’m not having that discussion right now.” He said quickly as he stood up, pulling me up with him. This time I was the one who was laughing, pulling at his hand I called his name softly, “It’s pretty fun that, that’s what initiated all this-“ I gestured at the both of us.
“You know what? It is, you did ask me to stay even after that, and the hands behind your back? Maybe we should have that conversation right now.”
How could he turn the topic on me when he was the one who said the kinky shit? Letting go of his hand, I walked past him, hiding my face. “Polar Tang it is, I’m not having that discussion right now.” I imitated his tone, earning a deadpanned look from my Captain, now lover. Without further delay, we left the infirmary.
Before I could go a separate way from Law, he gently took my hand in his and stared at me.
Looking askance, I chuckled. “Is there something you’d like to say?” I asked with a small smile. Pulling me closer to him once more, he let his hand trail up my arm.
“I’m going to contact the crew,” He did not elaborate and just looked at me, so I prodded. “And you… want me to be there,” his face did not help at all, as usual he was wearing a scowl and did not say more. “Or not? Is it more of a ‘we’re alive’ kind of call or is it like, ‘coming clean to our friends that we’re dating’ kind of call.”
“I’ll tell them we’ll be arriving in a few days, knowing them they’re worried sick.” He rolled his eyes, but there was a smile on his face that said he did not mind that much.
“You’re right, do you think they’ve encountered any problem on Zou?” I asked as we started walking side by side to where we could find a den den mushi. I had never seen that island, if anything it was but a legend to me, or as it was known, the ghost island.
I was surprised when we entered a room, filled with laughter and camaraderie, and Law huffed a laugh. “Do you not know about the plce? Bepo’s from Zou.”
“What? I never knew! Do you where they’re all from?! All of them?” putting a hand in front of him, I stopped him and squinted my eyes, “Do you know where I’m from?”
Law pushed my hand away and mumbled the sea I was from, surprising me once again. “Don’t act surprised, I keep track of all of my crew.”
“Right, it makes sense.”
We continued talking as we crossed the room and managed to get hold of the den den mushi. There was a bit of shoves and pushes from the commotion around as people drank and partied, but we made it through. When Law got in contact with the crew, Shachi picked up but soon after a shuffle was heard then loud whines, everyone on the other end of the line was moving and trying to talk to Law.
“I can’t handle that much noise, I’ll let you check up on them, alright?” I leaned over to tell Law, he nodded but before I could go, I heard our crew asking if they heard right, if it was me. Law told them it was me, that I was alive and he took care of my wounds which only brought more worry.
Questions were shot from each and every one of them, like asking what had happened, where we were, how was Law. But the one I heard was, Bepo asking Law if he had told me yet. What was he supposed to have told me? I didn’t know but it definitely piqued my interests. So, I decided to stay and pulled up a seat to sit next to Law with a huge grin.
Mouthing I asked, “Tell me what?”. He scowled and turned around, replying to all of their questions and calming their worries. It took a bit of time, but when he thought he was done, Bepo asked the question again. And Law grunted in response.
“Captain! You have to come clean. It can only go well!” I heard the polar bear say, his statement was backed up by the rest of the crew.
Bringing the den den mushi closer to his mouth, Law mumbled something.
Cheers erupted from the device, “Good! It was painful, Shachi you owe me, I knew they both couldn’t be that stupid.” I heard Penguin say.
Giving my Captain a curious look, I noticed his flustered expression and smiled back timidly. Why did it feel so nice? Part of me knew the crew would accept it, and yet hearing them supporting us took a weight off my chest. Or perhaps was it, relief from having carried this crush for so long? Whichever it was, it felt nice, and I could probably sleep tight tonight.
When Law was about to hang up, Penguin asked if I was still there. I contemplated telling them nothing, but instead I shuffled closer to the scowling man and peeked over his shoulder. “I’m still here-“ “Now you can finally admit you just couldn’t bear being separated from your true love instead of using Bepo as an ex-“ He was being overdramatic and clearly teasing me, yet I fell for it and grabbed the den den mushi, cutting the conversation short before putting it down on the table with too much force.
There would have been a silent if it hadn’t been for the hubbub in the background. “I’ll give them all a beating when we see them again.” I huffed, looking at Law for the first time since I hung up on the whole crew. He was leaning against the wall with a knowing smirk, it made me feel funny inside but I ignored it and gesture at him with my chin. “What?”
“Nothing.” He replied.
“Go ahead, tell me, you look arrogant and I-“ I was going to say I hated it but, who was I kidding? It was hot. “And I want to smack that smug smile off your face.”
“We both know I’d win in a fist fight, even more so in the state you’re in.” He said casually while making his way towards me, his stride slow and deliberate. When he reached me, he did not touch me, instead he leaned in and whispered right next to my ear, “Not that I couldn’t win if you weren’t in that state, you’d submit anyway.” He huffed a laugh, his breath hitting my burning skin.
When he pulled away, I stared at him, mouth agape. Had he really said that? “I- you- no? Maybe? I don’t know, I wasn’t planning on fighting you, so…” I trailed off, feeling stupid for ruining the mood but I could still save it. I wanted to see how far I could take it. Maybe test the water and flirt back, like he did moments ago.
Before I could speak, the cook appeared by the doorway and called everyone to eat. Throwing one last glance at Law, I said, “This isn’t over,”
“I hope not, I like what I started.” He stated, ruffling my hair before walking away with the ghost of a smile on his face. “And since I’m the one who started it, you’ll have to come back to me with a more satisfying answer. You seemed to be struggling there… maybe with time you’ll find back the ability to talk.”
I had no idea what he had started, but wherever this was leading us, I knew nothing was going to happen on this ship and I would probably go crazy from the waiting. But it was worth the wait, I had waited long enough to be honest with him and myself, I think waiting was now a skill I had mastered.
For now, I’d have to play it off. Play is casual, no matter how much I wanted to walk by his side and be close to him. It was strange, I always thought it was because I was worried about him but now I knew I simply wanted to be by his side and bathe in the serenity of his presence. For someone so dangerous, he had a calming aura that I could not get enough of.
“Are you going to keep staring or are you coming?” I heard Law’s voice by the door. Everyone had left, but him. He stood there, his coat ruined, his body wrapped in bandages, his sword in hand. And yet, he was smiling. But only for me.
“Well, maybe I’m enjoying the view?” I teased while making my way towards him. I could help but notice the slight change of colour on his cheeks, but he hid is well enough behind his sudden scowl. “Come on,” his hand grabbed mine, our fingers intertwining. “You need to eat if you want to heal up.”
Looking down at our hands, my stomach twisted in a strange knot. While I said I didn’t want PDA, holding hands felt nice, it felt reassuring. Perhaps this I could handle, why should I care what the rest of them thought? “You sure you want to hold hands?” I asked him when I remembered he was just as apprehending of being public about our affection.
“If I let you go, you’ll probably get lost and wounded, one way or another. I’m okay with this as long as you are.” He said in an off-handed way. But I knew it was not about me getting lost, he wanted this as much as I did. I squeezed his hand tighter and hummed. “Yeah, I’m good. I’ll flaunt you-“
“Don’t, just don’t.”
“What, you don’t want to be my trophy husband?” I said playfully as we started walking towards the kitchen.
His only reply was a deadly glare which only made me laugh, “Kidding, I won’t say anything promised.” I trailed off. “But I’ll be thinking it very loudly, because I get to be with the Surgeon of Death and that’s kind of hot.” It earned me a choking reaction from the Warlord who only gave me a side glance before looking away, slightly flustered.
I could get used to getting him to blush and be embarrassed, the side flirting seemed to be more effective than my pitiful attempt at straight-forward flirting and I took note of that.
When I started this impulsive approach, this stupid and rash action of following him to Punk Hazard I never thought it’d end up like this. But now I could say without an ounce of doubt that I did not regret it one bit. Sure, I got yelled at a lot and maybe I got more trauma than I thought I’d get but it turned out pretty well.
Our adventure was not at its end, we had a long way to go to defeat the Warlords and I was ready for it, as long as I was by Law’s side and I had my family with me.
“Hey, I’m glad I didn’t listen to you when you told me to go back to the Polar Tang the first time.” I told Law before we entered the kitchen.
“I can’t say I am, but I suppose it’s not that bad you did not listen to me… just this time. You better follow my orders next time, or I’ll chain you to the ship and leave you there.” He grunted. His thumb brushing over the back of my hand balanced his emotionless words. “Aye aye Captain.” I said teasingly, earning a shove from him.
It’ll be alright, I thought, content.

A/N Mmmm the end! For now, I like to leave it open, maybe I'll have another idea in that time line that I'll add as a new work in that series!
My whole goal was to get them to confess, hence the shortness of the story but yeah! I hope you enjoyed it.

I’m watching Dressrosa rn (first time) and I’m on the part where Doffy kills Rocinante.
So everyone knows that Doffy is like a ruthless greedy killer, and he loves destruction. But I feel like he can be human at times.
First take is when he’s going to kill his dad, he hesitates, and you can feel it a lot because it’s his father he’s killing not just some random slave, so it’s personal. But before the gun is fired, you can see him grunt and hesitate before pulling the trigger. He’s actually thinking about it because he knows that if he kills him he won’t come back from this. He’s always shown to hate his father because of revoking his title as a Celestial Dragon, and I feel like it’s because Doffy loves him at that moment, through that entire experience I genuinely don’t believe he hated his father as a person, he hated his actions, and that’s why he hesitates because he loved his father very much and I believe he is lying to himself (whether consciously or not) when he says he hates his father. The reason he pulled the trigger though is because he was reminded of how shitty he was treated regarding the title being revoked. It was such a dramatic and harsh change for him and he didn’t want to be treated like garbage, he didn’t want to be treated like a slave.
Second take is when he kills Rocinante. It’s not the first bullet that stumps him though, it’s the second round. He grunts with anger like he did with his father. And you can see him get physically angry. During this whole encounter with Rocinante he never smiles like he does present time. It’s more personal then Luffy, or Law. It’s his biological brother he’s killing willingly and he hates that he has to kill another family member he cherishes. My guess on why he gets rather angry is because of that. Rocinante is his last line to his family, after he kills him he won’t have any blood relatives left. And when he continues shooting him after Law recalls his memories with Rocinante, he looks withdrawn and numb. He looks empty. Then he scowls, and I believe it’s because no matter how much he wants Rocinante to be on his side, no matter how much he loves him, he can’t let him stop him. It’s too late for him and both of them know it. Like I said before, Doffy wasn’t mad at Rocinante, he was mad at his actions, and by pulling the trigger after hesitating he thinks it will help him cope with the fact that he just lost his last line. And the trigger to shooting him? Is when Rocinante says quote, “he is free!!” End quote. That says a stupid amount about Doffy’s character. He shoots him because he knows as he won’t ever be free no matter how many times he pays of other pirates, or knows about secret weapons that keep the Navy away, he knows down to his fucking core, he won’t ever be free, and he hates it. that’s another reason why he wants to destroy everything.
Doflamingo is fully aware he’s a monster. And I believe he envies Rocinante and his father because he’s nothing like them. He’s angry because power is his identity. Since the dramatic change of being in “heaven” and going to “hell” he’s furious. He needs power. Power is the only thing he actually has that can be a constant in his life if he can keep it, and when he loses it he loses himself because when he reflects on himself he always has power. He can’t imagine a world without him having power, without a world having power.
Now when you get to his “family” I think he has multiple reasons as to why he’s so protective of them. When people make fun of Pica’s voice he threatens them, when Law goes to attack Trebol he gets angry.
Reason One is probably due to him losing his biological family. His mother died of illness that could have been prevented if they didn’t revoke the title, his father he killed because he was angry at his actions, and Rocinante because betrayed him and was also angry at his actions.
Reason Two is probably because his “family” can keep him in power. His crew has to be crazy strong like him, and have to get shit done. His power is his identity, and his “family” helps hold that identity up.
I think apart of Doffy loves them, I just don’t think it’s on par with Rocinante, his father and mother. I also believe he finds himself comfortable when he’s around them. When you surround yourself with people like you, you feel connected and understood. The people in his crew are murders and have no qualms with killing. All of them are short a screw and batshit crazy.
Backtracking to when I said he envies Rocinante and his father, Doffy even says, quote “You’re so much like your father!” End quote. Notice how he doesn’t say “our father.” He knows he’s nothing like his father, he knows that his father was a kind man, and Doffy is the opposite of him. I fully believe that a small part of Doffy wants to be like Rocinante. He wants to be good, whether he knows that subconsciously or not is up in the air.
Before Doffy says quote, “You’re so much like your father!” End quote, he says quote, “Why do you wanna get in my way?!” End quote, and I think he’s talking to a part of himself and Rocinante. Like I said, he knows he’s a monster and he can’t become what he yearns for due past events. And because he can’t become what his father and Rocinante are naturally, his great idea is to destroy everything and everyone.
I think due to many pieces of his life, he became such a ruthless cold hearted bastard, (like growing up as a Celestial Dragon, having the title revoked and getting beaten to near death and starving, mother dying, etc.) he can’t change, but if it were different circumstances I genuinely believe he wouldn’t have turned out like that. Maybe not that entirely anyway.
Either way, Doflamingo isn’t such a ruthless cold hearted bastard as much as Oda wants us to believe. He can and does have human moments, no matter how minuscule, you just have to really pay attention to it because Doffy’s whole character is circumstantial evil.
This is my opinion on this and if you have a different one I’d like to hear it. Doffy is very complex, his relationship with human emotions is complex, and so is his relationship with other people, and I adore his character depth and design.

Biggest Coal Getters At Christmas In One Piece
As you know from this blog, I rag on the most hated characters in One Piece. At at this merry Christmas time, I want to show you all the biggest coal getters in this series.
12. Stelly
With being such an arrogant, self-important, entitled, and asshole brat, Sabo’s adoptive brother, Stelly, makes the first on the list on our naughty list. One has to feel sorry for the Gao kingdom for being ruled over such a spoiled king, who even thinks he can order Garp around because he’s originally from there.
11. Wapol
Another king on this list, but one who also is the president of his own toy company is Wapol. Like Stelly he was quite a horrible ruler when he was ruling Drum Kingdom, especially when he left the island to fend for itself when Blackbeard invaded and horded all the doctors so he could force people to pay high prices for them. Though he is currently living high now with his new kingdom gifted by the World Nobles, Santa still is going to leave a nice lump that fits his dark heart.
10. Judge
Just like with the earlier two entries, we have another asshole ruler and this one is the father of Strawhat member, Sanji. The ruler of the Germa 66, a seafaring kingdom that is notorious for conquering islands and being paid assassins, he is a social darwanist, who caused great abuse to Sanji throughout his childhood because he turned out normal. The only reason why he wanted Sanji back into his life was to cement an alliance with Big Mom by offering him as a groom for her daughter, Pudding, which turned out to be a trap because the Yonko planned to kill him and the other Vinsmokes off to get their technology. And at the wedding when the Big Mom Pirates’ true colors are showed, all that previous super macho bravado is melted away to reveal a sniveling coward who cries when someone puts him into the situation that he put others under. And for that the Germa clones will shoveling a lot of coal for a while.
9. Spandam
This guy is the poster child on why we should have anti-neoptism laws. A snively cowardly shit Spandam when he was head of the CP9 tortured Robin all the while she was under his captivity, while arrogantly believing his CP agents were untouchable. He also has little regard for human life when he accidentally triggered the buster call and didn’t care that his subordinates could die. He even called them needed sacrifices. He was also the reason why Tom, Iceburg and Franky’s mentor, was killed due to a frame up job he did in order to obtain the Pluton from him. It’s a bit karmic seeing him be forced to take orders from his former subordinate, Lucci, but even then the clumsy klutz should trip on his black pile of gifts he will get.
8. Hody Jones
Think Arlong, but with none of his few redeeming qualities. Although Hody can be said to be a product of his environment, he’s still a nasty racist shit, who should rot in the jail cell he was put in at the end of his starring arc. With his New Fishman Pirates, they planned on taking over the kingdom and go to Reverie where they planned to massarce everyone there. However, the worst thing he’s done is assassinate Queen Otohime, because she dared to try to aim to bring peace between humans and seafolk. If you think there can be a reason for his racism, then he would answer it himself: “nothing”. Nothing happened to him to make him hate humans personally he just grew up with the toxic belief that hating humans was justified. And for that Hody spends Christmas in a jail cell, while sharing it with the number of coals that can keep him and the other withered New Fishman Pirates company.
7. Mother Carmel
To the world (and to this day, Big Mom), Mother Carmel was a saintly figure who fostered peace between humans and giants plus opened up an orphanage for children of all races. However, underneath that facade lied a wicked slaver, who pretended to be a grandmotherly figure in order to sell children to the highest dollar. Her famed action of stopping the Elbaf crew from being executed was a staged event in order to gain the trust of the giants. Her most notable so-called prized asset was Charlotte Linlin (who would later become Big Mom), who to this day doesn’t know her foster mother never truly loved her and saw her as merchandise to be sold. Even though she’s a deceased character, she certainly deserves to have her stockings filled to the brim with stone, cold coal.
6. Blackbeard
Although he’s more of a love to hate example, we all know that Blackbeard deserves to be on this list. For one thing, if you want to know why the post-timeskip is chaotic as it is it’s thanks to this guy. He for years pretended to be a loyal member of Whitebeard’s crew and acted like one of the family knit setting. However, it’s all an at to get at the Yami Yami No Mi/Dark Dark Fruit. He killed one of his own brothers/crewmates, then went off to form his own crew where he fought Ace and got him handed over to the Marines, so that he could become a Warlord and get into Impel Down. There during the breakout he recruited level six members to his crew, then used them to kill his former captain and father figure Blackbeard. And postimeskip he has been shown to now be hunting down devil fruit users for his fellow crew. There is a reason why people say he’s the anti-Luffy and what a real non-romanticized pirate is like. So, I have a feeling Santa will be stopping by on Hive Island with some hefty packages that could fit his namesake.
5. Ceasar Clown
Although he’s shown as a butt monkey after his first appearance, the record of his misdeeds cannot be forgotten. On his island he kept children captive after a mole in the marines lied to their parents about them dying at sea, which he then proceeded to experiment on them with drugged candy which made them grow giant sized and shorten their live spans. All the while pretending he was actually curing them when he couldn’t give a shit. He also is notorious for making chemical weapons of mass destruction which is used by amoral individuals like the Beast Pirates. In other words, Santa strap this asshole to a big lump of coal and drown him.
4. Doflamingo
One of the most popular villians in the series is Donquixote Doflamingo, former Warlord, top broker, and King Of Dressrosa. Man, you could have a long list of all the shit he’s pulled throughout his career and life. On the outside he might look like a gaudy Elton John rip off, but on the inside bleeds one of the scariest and ruthless characters in the series. No wonder because he was born of the World Nobles, who are a sociopathic and psychotic bunch. From his take over to Dressrosa to funding Ceasar Clown’s research, he certainly can make you scared of the color pink. And that is why we have to heep this birds feathers with a black sheen.
3. Orochi
While Doffy is pretty to look at and is flamboyantly fun, Orochi just embodies “hate sink” stereotypes. He’s just made to be obvious that this guy is not going to be a good person. Spoilers ahead: I know he was influenced into becoming an asshole but he is still an asshole who sold out his country for his own benefit. Not to mention currently it was shown he was heavily implied to be the one who killed Suriyaki and lied to everyone about being named a successor with the help of that strange woman. His 20 years of terror have caused nothing but hurt to everyone under his rule as he causes a famine due to the occupying forces of the Beast Pirates. All of his because he believed he was entitled like his grandfather to be Shogun. He also wastes food, as his country is starving and feeds a whole village of hungry people failed “Smiles” so that they can quit crying about their dead loved ones. I know Santa would know of a way to get into this closed off country, so that he can deliver this shistain a coal that is as big as a mountain.
2. Kaido
Here is the man of thousand beasts and leader of the Beast pirates. Even though Blackbeard himself is no saint, he doesn’t seem to want to destroy the world like Kaido does. An unstoppable juggernaut, he sees suicide as a way to kill boredom and is often on his ass drunk. He’s ruled over Wano through Orochi for 2 decades, as he has decimated it into a famine wide place except the capitol where the rich and his toadie lives. He uses the land to function his own war effort and has caused many of the Wano people to go through great periods of grief. Like with Blackbeard, he’s an unromanticed version of what a pirate is really like. So, Kaido be prepared for Onigashima to reign coal like it’s no tomorrow.
1. World Nobles (Celestial Dragons)
By default, you know these shitty bastards would top the list. The biggest reason because of the fact that they are above the law and are allowed to do anything they like because they are so-called “gods”. They treat the general population like crap, while blatantly owning slaves when it was supposed to have been illegalized 2 centuries ago. They are also supported by a thing called heavenly tribute which country of the world government has to give continuously, lest they get kicked out and have no way of defending themselves from pirates or slave traffickers. So I can say the biggest coal getters go to these fat pigs in their towers. Better yet they should coal statues made in (dis)honor of them.

“I SENT YOU MY BLOOD, LUFFY!”
Once Luffy and Don Chinjao left the ring, the clean up and reconstruction team moved in. As of now, three contenders could potentially move forward to challenge Diamante: Jesus Burgess, Bartolomeo and the Not-So-Mysterious Lucy.
I say “not so mysterious” because everyone and their gran fighting in the next round knows who he is now.
And I have a theory: Bartolomeo, Rebecca and Luffy will team up against Burgess in the next round.
Why do I think this?
Well, once Luffy left the ring, pursued by Cavendish, two fodders happened to pass by Bartolomeo. He overheard them talking shit about Luffy.
“Why does Cavendish keep yelling Strawhat? As if he’d be here. That’s the guy who couldn’t even save his brother’s life. Anyone could do what he did if he doesn’t have to save anyone’s life!”
For some reason, Bartolomeo Did Not Like This. He pinned the fodder and almost crushed him with a barrier. At first I thought Bartolomeo’s reaction was something to do with Ace. Maybe they were friends once?
Nope.
The real reason was Even Better.
“What was that joke you made so lightly?” Bartolomeo growled. “Listen, Luffy-senpai will become the standard bearer for this era. He will become the Pirate King!”
No, I thought. No way. Bartolomeo was a Luffy supporter? How? And why Luffy-senpai? Had Luffy unknowingly taught him along the way?
The answer? Sort of.
Bartolomeo was there at Loguetown.
“I saw it with my own eyes. Over two years ago. At Loguetown in East Blue. On the legendary scaffold where Roger died, Luffy-senpai shouted it out then. At that moment, straight from heaven, came a bolt of thunder which saved his life. What I saw was a miracle!”
And thus Luffy’s Biggest Fan was born.
Seriously, this guy used to be a gangland boss (had taken over about one-hundred and fifty towns). But he began to follow the news stories. Alabasta, Enies Lobby, Impel Down and Marineford. He made a fan shrine with his bounty poster collection! In the end, Bart’s hardcore fanboy status reached the lofty height of emulation. Inspired by Luffy, he sailed out to sea.
And it turns out Bart does not take kindly to anyone talking shit about his idol.
While Luffy dodged Cavendish, Bartolomeo peeked round the wall and watched. “I can’t approach him. When it comes to it, I can’t do it. I’m too nervous to go anywhere near him. The scar under his left eye. It’s real! He’s so cool! Oh... my eyes are suddenly blind with tears. That stupid Cabbage shit. I want to beat him to death and save Luffy!”
It’s nice to know Luffy has such a dedicated in-universe fanbase.
And Don Chinjao can be added to the club too. He joined Cavendish in thundering after Luffy because he wants to place his grandson’s Happo Navy under the command of Garp’s Illustrious Grandson. What a result, right?
Except Luffy was thoroughly weirded out, wondering why these three crazy guys were chasing him.
Luckily for him, Rebecca was around.
Teach Takes Another Level in Scumbag
She grabbed his arm and hauled him off. There was a more private place nearby where no one else went.
On the way, they passed Jesus Burgess. He was in the middle of a DDM call. A very familiar voice was on the line. So familiar, it caused a visceral reaction in Luffy. He screeched to a halt immediately.
It was Blackbeard. And they were having a weird conversation.
“By that logic, Shiryu is no different,” Teach said.
“But I can’t trust Aokiji!” Burgess complained. “Uh... Hold on a sec, Captain. Strawhat is here.”
This piqued Teach’s interest. “Eh? You there, Strawhat?”
“You’re Blackbeard, aren’t you?” (You know when Luffy remembers you straight away that you must either be A) Really Good, or B) A Real Asshole.
“Yeah, it’s been awhile. Heard you’re fighting in the competition, Lucy. But my man, Burgess, is gonna win the Mera-Mera Fruit. I can’t wait because it’ll be like having Ace in my crew. He turned me down in the past.”
OOOOFT.
Wow, that one was a low blow. To be honest, I really like how Oda employs Teach as a long-term adversary to Luffy. Teach’s panel/screen time is economical but every time he appears, Oda really ramps up the enmity between him and Luffy. No exchange is ever wasted.
I was pretty proud of Luffy for keeping his cool here. It shows how much he’s matured as a person and as a Captain.
I am also intrigued by why Burgess is worrying about Aokiji? That was pretty random. Is our favourite ex-Admiral really operating in the underworld now? Is he trying to wangle information from the Blackbeards? Hmm... Don’t think Smoker would like that. Then again, he has had a hard lesson on Punk Hazard. Maybe he will be a little more cynical in future and won’t dismiss intel from pirates out of hand.
Justice for Toys!
Post Blackbeard Encounter, Rebecca led Luffy further away from the chaos. On the way, Luffy was distracted by free food samples. Just before he cleaned out the stall, Rebecca offered to buy him lunch, even though she didn’t have much money.
What a nice gesture, right?
Rebecca found a deserted looking area and Luffy smashed into his bento like it was Blackbeard’s face. Through mouthfuls of food, Luffy asked where they were. Rebecca explained it was quarters for the gladiators. They called it “a prison” (which, we learned later, it literally was).
Since Luffy’s life revolves around piracy and food, he asked Rebecca if she was hungry and if she wanted some food.
This triggered an Obvious Trauma Flashback. Smol Rebecca and her mother beneath the tree in Flower Field. Smol Rebecca saying, “I’m hungry.” Her mother replying, “Okay, do you think you can stay here alone for a while?” Then suddenly... dead mother.
Rebecca said tightly, “I don’t get hungry.”
Although I figured there was guilt here, I didn’t link Smol Rebecca’s food request directly with her mother’s death. Not until the big reveal of Rebecca’s past.
That unwitting conversational misstep must have pushed Rebecca into enacting her plan. She had intended to lure Luffy into a quiet area and kill him. When she turned on him, to my surprise, some randoms in bandages piped up from behind bars. “YEAH, GIT HIM, REBECCA!”
But Rebecca had picked on the wrong competitor.
Or, when you look at it from another angle, exactly the right one.
Luffy was able to fend her off while still tucking into his delicious meal. It was an embarrassingly easy win. The gulf of ability between them was so wide, she was never on Luffy’s radar. Right now, beating Rebecca would be like swatting a fly. (Not disparaging her general fighting ability, but compared to Luffy, most people would come off worse.) She was no threat, therefore Luffy wasn’t angry about the assassination attempt.
Luckily, she bought Luffy lunch. Especially since she didn’t have much money. He loves food and would appreciate that. Any other offence would pale in comparison to that act of generosity.
“I’m not gonna do anything to someone who bought me food,” Luffy said when Rebecca insisted he just kill her and get it over with.
Then Luffy noticed the “mummies” - the prisoners in bandages in the background. Rebecca explained the situation. She and the other guys in the room are “convict gladiators”, pretty much like the system in ancient Rome where slaves and criminals could be slung into the arena and ordered to fight to the death.
To ramp up Doflamingo’s evilness, they also said, “The king says we can be released if we win a thousand times. Everyone who tried to escape got shot. There’s nowhere to run for us. Before Doflamingo became king, gladiatorial matches were not to the death. In this kingdom, there are very bright and very dark sides.”
So Doflamingo brought in the Delayed Death Penalty for criminals. I guess it’s a way of ushering capital punishment through the back door. Entertain the masses and get rid of undesirables in one go. Few will object because most love the Colosseum games. The ones who won’t fight, or the really dangerous ones likely to talk too much, are turned into toys. That’s iron control of Dressrosa right there.
And Rebecca is not a fan.
“Today an army led by Sol will come to let us out by provoking a battle against Doflamingo. He is willing to sacrifice his life to destroy the kingdom. But I’m gonna do it before he does. I don’t want to just be protected anymore. I want to protect Sol this time! I’ll win today’s competition no matter what and will kill Doflamingo with the Mera-Mera Fruit power.”
I thought I’d figured out Rebecca’s motive to fight. Poor kid with no food, no family, maybe resorted to petty criminal activity, was arrested and now she wants to escape. Amongst all the crap that happened to her, maybe Sol was her only friend.
Luffy was like, “Why are you worried a toy is gonna die?”
Rebecca just smiled and said, “You’re not from here, so it’ll be hard for you to understand. Toys are the same as humans (wait til she finds out they *are* humans. She’s gonna flip tables). They are friends to the friendless. Siblings for those who have none. Lovers for the loveless. I don’t understand why they’re not able to live with us. Since I lost my mother, Sol-san raised me. He’s like a father to me (I bet he is).”
Luffy actually listened to this (which is a huge accomplishment, Rebecca. You should be proud of that) and said, “You don’t look like a prisoner to me. Buy me lunch again sometime!”
Rebecca walked out to the ring and said, “See you at the finals.”
I like her confidence.
Then a flashback kicked in that showed me how wrong I was about Rebecca’s motivations.
Oda Really Likes Princesses, Doesn’t He?
The sad tale of how Sol came to raise Rebecca opened with a scene of Smol Rebecca and her mother living quietly on Flower Field, picking flowers to sell in town. They had a lovely house. An idyllic life. But don’t think I missed that one empty chair at the table. (Sol is totally her dad.)
Then there was fire. The King Riku army was setting town on fire. This really puzzled me. (I’m still not one-hundred percent on this. Are we talking the actual King Riku or the Resistance King Riku Army here?)
Soldiers chased Smol Rebecca and her mother, Lady Scarlet. Diamante headed the charge. Sol stepped in and defended them. After the battle, Smol Rebecca and Lady Scarlet hid out in Flower Field. Rebecca said she was hungry. Lady Scarlet knew it was a risk but she sneaked into town to buy food. She was shot and killed. Sol brought her body back, along with the food she’d died to buy Rebecca.
Smol Rebecca nudging her mother’s dead body and telling her to get up was like post-stampede Mufasa and Simba all over again. It was Very Sad. ;_;
She almost cried but Sol clamped his hand over her mouth. Enemies were still looking for her.
“Your mother was high-born. Do you know we have a new king now? The new king wants to capture all the former nobility. He even wants to capture you because your mother’s blood runs through your veins. I’m gonna protect you unti the end with my life. Until the day you are filled with happiness, I will always be by your side.”
Wait... I thought. Rebecca is a noble???
What the hell?
What was going on?
Was the battle the night before a civil war in Dressrosa? One that Doflamingo won against King Riku?
Who Says Politicians Never Keep Their Promises, Eh?
Because here he is. On a podium. A shiny new king wearing his all time fave feather jacket. The adoring crowd chanted his name. “Doflamingo! Doflamingo!”
He made a speech. Par for the course with new kings.
“The Riku Family has been running this poor country for centuries! In the end they became shameless and robbed money and goods from citizens for themselves. I’m gonna make this country wealthy, instead!”
This is where I lost track of the situation. From what has been revealed about people turning into Toys, I thought Doflamingo “brought someone in” to do that. I figured that would have been *after* he gained power. But Toys were around before that. Sol is proof.
What gives?
And the people of Dressrosa *really* hate King Riku and anyone associated with his bad, corrupt family. Unfortunately for Rebecca, not only is she a noble, she is also King Riku’s granddaughter. Her status is also well-known in the Colosseum. When she walked into the ring, the commentator introduced her as the Phantom Princess of King Riku’s line. She was booed and vilified by the audience. “BURN IN HELL! CORRUPT FAMILY!”
I get the feeling Doflamingo engineered this somehow. It’s all too perfect a narrative. Doflamingo, the saviour, sweeps in and saves Dressrosa from the evil, corrupt family, while he is as bad, if not worse. Or maybe Doflamingo did have good intentions, but, as always in life, matters snowballed and he became hella corrupt himself. Leaning more towards deliberate coup at the moment.
I am also highly suspicious of the gladiator Ricky. It’s very close to Riku and there was definitely an older gent under that mask...
“SELL THEM FOR STRAWHAT MERCHANDISE!”

Is Law Trash - One Piece Discussion | Supernova Ken
Strange way to start a discussion right, make everyone hate you for attacking a beloved One Piece character. Trust me I plan to do it again
But for now, please let me explain the issues I have with one Trafalgar D. Water Law.
From his introduction into the story Law has always been considered Mr. Cool, the sauve yet complicated Surgeon of Death, and his surprise save at the end of the Paramount War at Marineford left us fans both super in love (in a normal fan way i promise) and super intrigued with everything about the mysterious Supernova. (see what i did there - lol not great)
Post timeskip Oda feeds our curiosity surrounding Law while simultaneously hitting us with more head banging questions. Why did he actually save Luffy? Which Emperor is he after?, What’s his beef with Mingo? cue mega emotional, ultra teary backstory in the same league as Nami and Robin - how the heck that is even possible for a non Straw-Hat is beyond amazing.
But with all the likeable story beats and universe breaking powers (i’ll get to that), something about this guy just made me think, Nah
Law isn’t the spectacular character the fan base has come to love. He’s actually trash… and here’s why.
Reuniting at Punk Hazard, Law begins the next phase of his long-game by recruiting Luffy into his alliance. The first phase seemingly being his actions at the Rocky port where he decided he’d trade in the hearts of 100 pirates in order to gain the title of Shichibukai.
Becoming a Shichibukai is a genius idea in the world of One Piece, the ability to move freely (Blackbeard style) in the New World along with all the other perks and power status played well in Laws plan to blindside Doflamingo by infiltrating Caesars lab on Punk Hazard and disable the SAD machine integral to Kaido and Mingo’s ability to produce the man-made Devil Fruits known as Smiles. Smart yes, gutsy - heck to the no.
Yes he had an intricate plan to weaken Doflamingo's trade and bargaining power, but he had many reservations about challenging the centrepiece of his trauma, something we know Luffy and Kid would never hesitate to do. I’m not saying being as reckless as those two is ever advisable, but to stand shoulder to shoulder with pirate king candidates I don’t feel that this level of wariness qualifies the impression we have of Law. Even Usopp and Nami outdo Law in their resolve when it comes to challenging more powerful opponents, I guess the Straw Hats do have the unwavering belief in their Captain that pushes them to stand their ground (Barring Usopp's mishap with Sugar and Trebol).
The scurrying around he does on Dressrosa also does nothing to show he deserves the acknowledgement as a worst generation pirate here to bring in the new era as it’s just an offshoot of his lack of resolve. Being smart is a good way to trigger world changing events, but when things really don’t go his way, as was the case throughout the arc, his inability to adjust proved his unworthiness. The moment Doflamingo deceived the world with his faked resignation from the warlords, Law took L after L trying to outthink his target to no avail which made for a terribly uninspired showing from a so called rival to Luffy. Even with Kids multiple (and exaggerated) losses to the Emperors he encountered, we as the audience could never say that his heart wasn’t in it. But with Law, as ironic as this will sound considering the themes of his plotline, he just didn’t have the heart necessary to follow through. That's where Luffy came in and that’s where he fails as Luffy’s equal.
Wano is slowly rebuilding Law as the formidable challenger we viewed him to be at Sabaody, but the damage will require a long road of fixes and an impossible, incredible feat at the end of it. Not only does he lack that all important backbone, he also has no heart to follow through with anything (way harsh i know).

620-622: "A Critical Situation! Punk Hazard Explodes!", "Capture Caesar! General Cannon Blasts!" and "A Touching Reunion! Momonosuke and Kinemon!"
Watched three in a row because Doflamingo was teased. He is currently air-leaping over the sea from Dressrosa, so, to be fair, that might take some time. Meanwhile, a whole lot of stuff happened during the wind-up phase of Punk Hazard.
The biggest twist was Caesar accidentally stabbing Monet in the heart. That was brutal and a genuine shock. Doubt he’ll care unless Doflamingo chews him out for it. The second biggest twist was the whole Kaidou thing. The third biggest was Kinemon returning from the “dead” (more on that later).
There is a fair bit to unpack, so I’ll get down to it.
The Ol’ Switcheroo
They really have to start labeling these things. Nametags, people! One of the first things you learn at school. A permanent marker. That’s all you need. Scrawl some initials on that box. Boom! There’s your protection from switcheroos. Job done.
The scene was great, though. I liked the disorientating switch between Caesar outside and Monet inside. It meant you didn’t really know what was truly happening until the action switched back to the escaping Strawhats.
At the start of 620, Caesar lay flat out, clutching that blade, fully intent on taking Smoker down with him.
Inside, Monet was still on the DDM to Doflamingo, fully prepared to sacrifice herself to clean up Punk Hazard. Her feathery appendage hovered over the Big Red Button. “The Strawhats. Trafalgar Law. G5. Those pitiable children. Everyone will disappear along with me.” Back in Dressrosa, Doflamingo perched on that window seat.
Then there was a big, confusing KABOOM and a slicing sound. Monet’s eyes widened. I had no idea what was going on. Neither did Doflamingo. He must have heard the explosion and wondered aloud why the DDM connection hadn’t cut out.
The explanation came from Law. The boom that rocked Punk Hazard came from the SAD room.
So what had happened to Monet? She slumped to the floor, bleeding. Then the action switched back to Caesar. A vicious grin stretched his face and that shard of blade was buried deep in that heart.
Yup. Caesar stabbed Monet in the heart BY ACCIDENT. Caesar killed Monet.
How had he managed to screw up so badly?
Law played the ol’ switcheroo. In a flashback, it was revealed that Law had already returned Smoker’s heart. Smoker was puzzled because his heart had been handed to Caesar by Law as a “thoughtful gift.” How had Law clawed it back?
To obtain Caesar’s trust in the first place, Law exchanged hearts. Law’s for Monet’s. That had been the deal. But when Law took Smoker’s heart later on, he now had two identical-looking hearts. Just before he handed over the “thoughtful gift” Law pocketed Caesar’s and handed over Monet’s instead. As Law said, “When you do something good, something good will happen to you”, right?
A genius move but a risky gamble, Law, you absolute madman. :D
Naturally, Doflamingo realised something was up. Monet did not answer. A horrific explosion had not cut the line. He grabbed his jacket. I cannot lie, he looked grim. Some little kid ran about looking for him. The Elders said Doflamingo would be in his room but the kid said she’d looked there. Oh well, the Elders said. Doflamingo had just left without taking any subordinates again. (I like that. Doflamingo is obviously confident he can take care of this mess himself.)
And sure enough, Doflamingo boosted across the sea, on the line with Baby 5 and Buffalo. Was Punk Hazard still intact? Yes. But an “Iron Security Guard” stood in their way.
“Make sure you kill him,” Doflamingo said. “I’m on my way now.”
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Things are hotting up again. I mean, RIP, Monet, but I won’t miss you too much. Sure, you said the children were pitiable but you went along with the blood-curdling experimentation because Doflamingo asked you to so...
Come to think of it, it was probably a good thing that Caesar screwed up.
Doflamingo just assumed Baby 5 and Buffalo would easily take care of retrieving Caesar. He didn’t contact them for an update until he was leaping across the sea. If Monet had pushed that button, everyone would have been killed in the explosion - including Caesar. (Probably. I’m assuming the gas fruit wouldn’t protect Caesar from that. If that’s wrong, then Doflamingo made a good call.)
Artists Taking the Michael Here, I Think
While Doflamingo was in transit, Baby 5 and Buffalo were having a hard time against Franky. Got to say that Franky is lovably eccentric. He sings these theme songs for himself while he’s fighting, “I am the Iron Pirate and I don’t take care of the seeeeeeeea... I am an invincible Iron Pirate!” He’s hilarious.
The weapons/air battle was cool. That’s why Franky is such a useful character. He can inject a bit of variety into any fight. For a while, it switched from a pirate series into an air battle mecha fest! Baby 5 transformed into revolvers, gatling guns, flame throwers, sickles and spinning tops (super lame!) But Franky held out against them all.
It was interesting that she said, “Even a Pacifista would have taken damage from that!” Does that imply that Franky has improved upon Vegapunk’s designs?? :D
At any rate, Franky had it all under control. “I praise you for penetrating my armour but this is like a mantis going up against a warship.” That was a good line! Franky revealed the Sunny’s secret weapon: the Gaon Cannon.
It was only when the smoke cleared that Franky finally noticed Caesar lying flat out. Then Baby 5 yelled, “In the name of Joker, we will recover Caesar no matter what!”
The penny finally dropped. They weren’t after his cola.
Oh, Franky.

In the tunnel, the big explosm from the SAD Room made life difficult for the escapees. Large chunks of ceiling and boulders fell on the tracks. Luffy and Zoro took care of those. No problem. Standard procedure.
The only thing that really threatened their plan? The explosion caused the gas to leak into the tunnel. Yikes.
Law asked if there was anyone who could control wind. Loved that little moment when the G5 guys were like, “Oh yeah. And you’ll find someone with that highly specialised power here by random chance? We’re doomed!”
And Nami stepped forward. xD
Her job was to redirect the gas cloud, blowing away the gas outside to clear a path to the ships. The G5 didn’t entirely trust Nami. I like how Sanji defended her here. “Those who don’t trust Nami, get off!” That trust was based on Strawhat solidarity and faith in Nami’s competence, not on comedic infatuation.
That unshakeable Strawhat solidarity was shown again after Nami played a blinder and the truck burst out of the tunnel to a huge victory fanfare! :D
Instead of finding more clouds of noxious gas, they found the area clear and Franky battling with Baby 5 and Buffalo. (Usopp was the only one who wondered where the outside gas was. That man always has his head screwed on.)
Before they nabbed Caesar and dashed, Baby 5 called out Law for being a traitor. She said something verrrrrry interesting too. “Are you really going against Joker? You traitor. Joker was saving the Seat of Hearts for you.”
Leaving aside the obvious card suit theme here (was Law to be promoted to a General like rank in Doflamingo’s crew?) Law told Luffy that Baby 5 and Buffalo were the enemy. When they realised they were outnumbered and outmatched, Baby 5 and Buffalo snatched Caesar and scarpered.
That triggered the Nami and Usopp dream team capture sequence.
Usopp was like, “Leave this to me.” Law attempted to step in, but Luffy had an “I’m just gonna stop you there moment”. If Usopp said he’d handle it, he’d handle it. It was said with a smile but you know Luffy meant business. Law had to learn to trust the other Strawhats just as much as Luffy already does.
Oda always plays with Nami and Usopp’s cowardice but honestly, it’s becoming more and more of a running joke rather than truth. Nami’s weather control powers are actually super destructive and she took out Baby 5, Buffalo and Caesar with no problems. Usopp finished the job by grabbing Buffalo and Baby 5. Caesar almost thought he’d get away because Usopp’s attacks phased through his logia form.
But no!
For Usopp had already thought about it. THOSE CUFFS!
That aside, let us give credit where it’s due: Luffy, your plan came good in the end. Great execution by Usopp. Now that’s what I call teamwork. :D
Nami and Usopp Come Through
The immediate danger past, it was time to literally draw a line (lmao G5) and get back to reality. Smoker agreed to wait with the pirates until a ship came to pick up his unit.
Oda set about tying up the loose ends. Brownbeard and the minions would hand themselves over to the Marines in exchange for treatment. It’s telling that he considers prison a better alternative than being Caesar’s guinea pig. Plus, he got to see Caesar go flying thanks to Luffy, so it was worth it.
Tashigi asked Nami if she could take the kids to Vegapunk for treatment. Nami was initially distrustful. It was the Marines’ fault the kids ended up with Caesar in the first place. Vergo had handed them over! The Marines weren’t doing their job. But Tashigi apologised, said she’d take personal responsibility for the kids and that she would get them back to their parents. Most of them should be okay now Law has operated on them and removed most of the bad stuff.
(Little bit cliched that the female characters are the ones always taking ultimate responsibility for the kids but it’s entirely expected considering the genre, Japan, etc.)
At least the kids recognised Nami and Chopper as the main people who stuck up for them and helped them pull through. When Chopper told them the Marines wanted to take care of them, they protested. Where’s the orange-haired lady? They wanted to thank her. What about Robo Man? Rubber Man? Curly Brow Guy?
But it was for the best. Nami and Usopp had a little chat on deck. I love moments like that when you catch the friendly, natural moments between the crew you don’t often get to see because they’re busy fighting. Usopp asked Nami if she’d sorted things with the Marines. Nami said yeah, that it was for the best that Tashigi took the kids. They were all pirates. Keeping the kids on deck even until they got them home would put them in danger (good call, as Doflamingo is on his way).
There was a nice callback to Bellmere too. Nami admitted the other reason was she has, “a weakness for the eyes of a female Marine. They’re just reassuring to me. It’s always best to be saved by a strong, kind-hearted female Marine.”
I like it when Oda does that. He never forgets his characters’ roots and motivations.
In Two Minds About This
While Sanji was cooking up some Newkama Kempo 99th Vital Recipe: Hormone Soup with Sea Pig (sounds horrendous but everyone was lining up for it) Brook backed into Kinemon.
I suspected Kinemon would be revived. Why else would Brook have dragged him all the way out of Punk Hazard? Plus, I felt sorry for poor Momonosuke knowing his dad was dead and having to bottle all that up because “samurai”.
The reunion was actually great. Not complaining about it in the slightest. True to the OPverse’s samurai culture, it wasn’t overly sappy. It was a worried sick dad hugging his little boy. Momonosuke did not touch a drop of food until his dad said it was okay, that they could trust these pirates, that they had saved his life. Watching little Momonosuke finally able to eat gave me a major case of HappySad. (If anyone’s curious about the ratio, it was 80% happy and 20% sad.)
This turned into straight up Happy when Luffy cheered up Momonosuke with his old chopsticks in nostrils trick. No one should be crying at a party, after all!
The only thing I was a bit meh about was that Kinemon - and all the other G5 guys - survived Caesar’s weapon. Would have preferred it if the G5 guys’ sacrifice remained that way. Not because I like edgy character death but because it was such a grave moment and a change in tone. It also obliterated most of the peril. I also don’t get how they survived if they were encased in that white substance. They would have suffocated!
Maybe if Kinemon was half frozen, it would have been more convincing to break the white casing and he was still alive underneath. But that would have ruined the reunion drama of him “rising from the dead”.
Also, what’s Caesar doing inventing weapons that don’t actually kill people?
Come on, Caesar. Step up your game! You should have stuck with Smiley, mate.
And Now For Someone Completely Different...
Now that everyone was free to party, Law attempted to kill the buzz by reminding Luffy that new enemies would be arriving shortly and it was best to make themselves scarce. Luffy responded to this by declaring everyone should “Hurry up and party!” Lmao.
The party montage showed that Mocha would be okay, the kids enjoyed Franky’s hair transformations, that Brownbeard and the Minions are friends again, the kids trooped onto the Marine ship, Chopper brought Law a bowl of soup (he freaked out watching Law operate on the kids, haha), the Minions forced Caesar to spill the secrets of how the gas worked and that Caesar was sitting there, absolutely battered, wondering how the hell Smoker was still alive.
Smoker was also wondering something. He asked his new Pirate Pal Law why the alliance with Luffy. “What are you planning on using Strawhat to do?”
Law’s reply? “Who’s the one who’s being used?”
Then, finally, we were treated to the real conversation. The one Luffy and Law had on that clifftop in the blizzard that cut away when the real good stuff happened.
And here is the news.
The target is Kaidou the Beast.
Kaidou? Already?
That is awesome.
It’ll be a long-term plan, though, because the Strawhats have business with Big Mom after Dressrosa (dat spoilery CR arc list).
I was right in thinking Luffy had reservations in fighting Shanks but I was totally wrong about him never wanting to go up against him. Luffy just doesn’t want to fight him first.
Luffy, you absolute madman.
(I now think someone else will take out Shanks, thus averting the friends into enemies situation. Maybe Blackbeard because he is persona non grata and he already has beef with Shanks.)
The only thing I’m worried about immediately (as in the next couple of episodes) is the imminent arrival of Doflamingo and the dude with the feather boa/fur trimmed collar who woke up on a tiny ship, said he’d slept in and... where was Punk Hazard again?
Hopefully, Luffy will take Law’s advice and scarper with Caesar on board before Doflamingo finds them.
That’ll make Doflamingo mad.

619: "Running Wild! Invincible General Franky!"
Pirate King, eh?
You know what? I’m almost apprehensive to leave Punk Hazard behind.
It was such a fun arc and ticked lots of my personal boxes (Caesar is absolutely awful and a treasure of a villain, I have decided). This apprehension is only because I don’t know what’s coming next. Judging by the plot threads Oda has set up so far, it’s fingers crossed I’ll enjoy Dressrosa as much as Punk Hazard.
This episode seemed to be split in two: the fond farewell to the arc and looking forward to the next. In one particular scene, both merged very effectively.
And Now, We Wait.
The Strawhats waiting for Usopp, Chopper and Brook was definitely a tying up of loose ends. The final piece of the puzzle of Punk Hazard is complete. Now, they only need to escape.
I love this shot. While the others were clambering onto Law’s truck, desperate to escape the lab caving in about them, Luffy and the other Strawhats calmly sat facing the door, unwilling to give up hope until all hope was lost. Because Luffy waited, they all stood by him and did the same. ;_;
The Strawhats definitely have Usopp to thank for guiding Chopper and Brook to safety. “50 meters to go! The Gate is closing. Slide in!” The gas really was gaining at that point but Brook kept everyone’s spirits up. “It’s only over when you give up.”
Chopper, Mocha and the G5 guys burst through first, followed by a very narrow scrape through by Brook and (frozen) Kinemon! Luffy was relieved. You could see the sweat beads on his forehead. But he never gave up hope and his faith in his crew paid off. (But it always helps to have someone like Usopp around, so credit where it is due.)
Another clue that the Strawhats might actually capture Caesar is that Usopp retrieved the cuffs from the Minions. They were so grateful for what Usopp had done for them that they fought to hand over their cuffs.
The only slightly bad thing was that Brook accidentally let slip that Kinemon had been caught by the gas right in front of his kid.
Don’t think Momonosuke will be happy his dad is dead.
Is he dead, though? The other minions and G5 guys were left behind but why would Brook bother to bring Kinemon, if he couldn’t be revived? Unless it’ll be an honourable samurai funeral situation... ;_;
Actual Knife Energy
Meanwhile, outside at the Sunny, the Mega Mecha Air Battle between Franky and the Baby 5/Buffalo team was definitely looking to the future (specifically, the future battles and rivalries between Doflamingo and the Strawhat pirates).
As Baby 5 and Buffalo retreated from Franky’s firestorm of laser bullets, they hovered at a safe distance and had a “wtf is that?” moment. An old kung-fu movie style sequence of increasing close ups followed (I laughed). Then, without warning, Franky unleashed a General Left.
Baby 5 and Buffalo were sent reeling again. It was interesting they recognised Franky’s “pacifista” weapons straight away, and that they briefly considered Franky was one of Caesar’s inventions before realising Caesar has no interest in “human” weapons. I guess Caesar’s more a biochem kind of guy.
Well, whatever Franky was, Baby 5 said, if it wanted a fight...
She fired a ton of bullets in Franky’s general direction and thought she’d got him until the smoke cleared and a flash of glowing yellow cyborg eyes said, “Nope. Not even close.”
Then Franky injected a bit of humour into the firefight. Dat General Shield that was way too small. Dat Boomerang! xD
His dumb delaying tactics annoyed Baby 5 into changing form. Now, I am guessing Baby 5 and Buffalo have eaten those types of fruits that let you transform into objects (kind of the opposite of Funkfreed). Would those be Zoan fruits, or something else?
At any rate, their teamwork is pretty good. Buffalo knows how to support Baby 5 and set up her attacks. She transformed into a blade first (Espada Girl), then a missile (Missile Girl). It’s just a shame they’re up against Franky because he is armed to the teeth. Literally. Like, I would not be surprised if Franky has weaponised his teeth.
What probably threw Baby 5 and Buffalo was when they accused Franky of not letting them recover Caesar. Buffalo reminded Baby 5 that Doflamingo said “immediately” regarding Caesar’s recovery. (That itself is interesting. It shows Doflamingo’s orders are not to be defied.) Baby 5 transformed into a missile and yelled, “We’ll take Caesar with us!” and Franky was like, “Wtf are you talking about Caesar?”
I had an “uh oh” moment. Franky just wants to defend Sunny. Baby 5 and Buffalo want to recover Caesar. There is a tiny danger that all three will have a chat and agree to let everyone get what they want with no further conflict. Then Caesar will have escaped. Franky knows what Caesar did to the Strawhats, so I don’t think it’ll happen. But there is always a chance!
And speaking of Caesar...
The Centre of Alllllll the Trouble
I wonder if this guy knows just how much trouble he’s caused? I wonder if he knows his knowledge alone can turn the OPverse upside down? That Doflamingo sent two members of his team to retrieve him and was willing to sacrifice Monet and Vergo to do so makes it blindingly obvious.
Considering how egotistical Caesar is, he probably knows fine well and absolutely loves it.
Well, I say that. As of 619, he has no idea Doflamingo has sent anyone to rescue him. He’s currently flat out and convinced he’s going to die.
But, Caesar cannot stop being Caesar. He felt about in his coat pockets, found Smoker’s heart in a box and decided to enact some scorched earth, nuclear revenge. I mean, if he’s gonna die, right?
The scary thing about Caesar is the sheer glee he feels whenever he does something awful. “I’ll take Smoker to hell with me!” he whispered. “It’s a shame I can’t watch him die. He’ll open his eyes, vomit blood and suffocate in no time. I’m excited just imagining it!”
Okay, Caesar. You do you.
He’s also the kind of guy who keeps shanks on his person. Holding it above the heart, he grinned and said, “It’ll cause fear and panic in all those he’s with.”
That’s Caesar in a nutshell. He develops biochem weapons. He’s a serial killer. He loves causing fear and panic. Punk Hazard really was a paradise for him and he manipulated everyone else around him into believing it too.
I don’t think Smoker will die. Mostly because Law is around and he might be able to fix any heart-stabbin’ antics with his Room Plus Medical Powers.
Still, I wonder what will be next for Caesar? If he goes back to Doflamingo, it’ll be business as usual, I guess. If Luffy and Law succeed... what the hell will they do with him? Luffy hates him. Will Law take him on?
I have no idea. It could go any way, really. I suppose it depends on how devoted Caesar is to Doflamingo. Whether Caesar is willing to go down with Doflamingo (I’m assuming this’ll happen because Doflamingo is a villain and Whole Cake Island comes after Dressrosa.)
RIP, Monet and Vergo
This sequence of scenes was very cool. Lots of beautiful art too. The most interesting thing here was Monet and Vergo’s devotion to Doflamingo. That they were willing to die to help accomplish his goals. Doflamingo must either have some hellish power, hellish charisma or a hellish combination of both.
The action briefly cut to Dressrosa, where Doflamingo was taking a call from Monet. He couldn’t believe she was alive. (Neither could I. How she recovered from being halved is still a mystery.) She told him Vergo had been beaten. Caesar too. Doflamingo said not to worry. Baby 5 and Buffalo had been sent to retrieve Caesar.
Notice the lack of “and also retrieve you and Vergo.” Monet did notice... and she was fine with it.
“Oh, that’s good to hear,” she said.
Doflamingo apologised. “It’s all because of my misjudgement. I feel bad for you all but I want to make sure to wipe out all those squirts now.”
Translated: I feel bad that you and Vergo are gonna die but I need this thing done.
He wanted Monet to push Caesar’s Big Red Button, the Big Damned Bomb that was also responsible for leveling Punk Hazard. “With just the push of a button, there will be only one survivor on that island and that is Caesar.”
Jeez. That’s harsh. He just straight up told her.
“You don’t have to say anything, Joker,” Monet answered. “I was just going to do that, anyway. I’m right in front of the triggering device. The explosion will ruin the tanker. You’re gonna lose a tanker. Is that okay?”
“I need you to perish along with everything else.”
“Yes, Young Master.”
What the actual? Monet, this is your LIFE and you are worried about this guy’s TANKER? Doflamingo has crazy control over these people. The scariest thing is that it is not just fear. These people admire him as much as the Strawhats admire Luffy.
And the weirdest thing? Doflamingo seems to want to claim the Pirate King title.
That’s only Monet’s word, but why would she lie about something like that?
I always thought Doflamingo was dismissive about all the Old/New Era stuff. Now I’m wondering what his deal is.
Doflamingo at least had the grace to call Vergo for one last chat. Vergo was still in bits strung along the railing (it’s kinda gruesome, when you think about it.) He apologised to Vergo, said he had known him for the longest time and thanked him for all his work. Vergo smiled (in fractions). Like Monet, he was totally fine about dying, as long as Doflamingo said the right words.
Then, just before the island went KABOOM, Toei inserted a quick series of flashbacks. The G5 guys who sacrificed themselves with the thumbs up, the kids, the minions, Vergo, Monet, all the Strawhats, Law, Smoker, Tashigi, even Doflamingo perched on his window seat in Dressrosa pinching the bridge of his nose like, “Gawd this was a disaster...”
Now I think about it, it really was. Punk Hazard was a proper death-fest. Caesar gleefully murdered minions left, right and centre, he experimented on kids and nuked an entire island. Doflamingo is asking people to die for him. G5s sacrificed themselves. Though no one on the level of Whitebeard and Ace died, a lot of people bit the big one on Punk Hazard and it was worse in a way because at least in Marineford, they were all fighting for something. In Punk Hazard, people just died because Caesar/Doflamingo’s business.
Everyone’s fighting to survive right now.
Except Luffy. He’s riding a truck through a rapidly collapsing tunnel.
That’s his idea of a great day out.
Bye, Punk Hazard! It’s been an absolute pleasure.

607-608: "A Fierce Battle Gets Heated! Luffy vs. Caesar!" and "A Mastermind Underground! Doflamingo Makes His Move!"
This one pulls no punches, does he?
Chalk up another pair of excellent episodes with a satisfying payload of reveals.
The major one? Well, it’s obvious, right? Doflamingo has sidled out of the shadows and is now fully involved in the plot. The mysterious thing Law claimed would shake the New World is a substance/object called SAD which is being manufactured by Caesar on Punk Hazard. Not only that, Caesar Clown is like the Colonel Freaking Sanders of the OPverse, in that he is the only person who knows the eleven secret herbs and spices for making SAD. He also turned Foxfire’s kid into a dragon.
(Or at least I think he did. That could have been Vegapunk but I don’t think Vegapunk is cruel enough to do that.)
Still have no idea what SAD is, but I will kick back and let the plot guide me slowly towards the answer because I cannot even begin to speculate.
SAD: Eleven Secret Herbs and Spices
Law is such a plot catalyst.
He didn’t do much across 607 and 608. Well, not to my eyes, anyway.
All he did was walk down a dark corridor with purpose, stand in front of a big, important-looking door, trigger an alarm opening said door, and entering the room with a smirk, while declaring: “Yes. This will shake up the New World.”
Once I finished 607 and 608, I realised Law is probably in deep shit because a lot of powerful, angry characters are out for his blood. He is also at a major disadvantage until he reclaims his heart from Vergo (as he told Smoker via flashback). Because of Law, the plot is now speeding along at a cracking pace.
Caesar Doesn’t Realise He’s Just Issued Luffy a Challenge
The action picked up where it left off. Luffy wound up a blistering punch that hit Caesar so hard I performed a sharp intake of breath and cringed for him.
Still, to give credit to Caesar, he totally tanked the direct hit. The madman got up again just in time to see Luffy speeding towards him, arms outstretched. That pesky rubber boy just insists on trying to grab him! There was a spot of hilarious, “GOT YOU!” “HA, NO YOU DIDN’T!” Then Caesar got fed up, set the place on fire and asked Luffy a really important question.
“Why are you attacking me?”
That was so damned funny to me. They’ve been knocking seven bells out of each other for several episodes now and Caesar had no idea why Luffy decided to noise him up.
Luffy’s answer was even funnier.
“I don’t know why but I’ve been told something fun would begin if I kidnap you!”
If there is such a thing as a Top Ten Luffiest Moments Compilation, that line has to be in mix surely? Why are you fighting me? No idea, but I was promised fun if I do. I have no words. xD
Caesar made a last ditch attempt to dissuade Luffy from an outright punch-up. Probably because he knows Luffy uses haki and that makes him vulnerable to suffering more gut-punches. “You formed an alliance with Law, right? He told you do kidnap me. You can’t trust him. I’m sure he’ll betray you. Don’t do it.”
Luffy’s response? “DON’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!”
Negotiations broke down rather swiftly after that. Caesar broke out his karakuni (oxygen removal) technique. It has a limited range, which is good because it would be too overpowered otherwise. Luffy dodged and Caesar tanked another punch right in the word hole. But Caesar is such a mad bastard he actually closed the distance, got right up in Luffy’s face, deprived him of oxygen and slashed at him with a flashy, flaming hot blue sword technique. For good measure, he resorted to a few gastanets to hold Luffy at bay.
Caesar’s fighting style is suprisingly aggressive. xD
Still, when Luffy could huff some oxygen into his rubbery lungs, he was too fast for Caesar. Luffy’s response to Caesar’s aggressive style? “HEY YOU! STAY AWAY FROM ME!” At which point he booted Caesar in the face and he went flying.
“Damn it, that hurt!” Caesar seethed. (He hates haki users, ha!) But he still got back up.
Luffy realised he needed to catch Caesar quickly before he was choked to death. I still think if he hits Caesar hard enough, he’ll be able to do it no bother. It’s just a matter of getting Caesar on his own because Monet is under strict orders from Doflamingo to Not Let Anything Happen to his Cash Cow Scientist.
It was annoying because Luffy was *so close*. Caesar was willing to let him go because he wanted to show the brokers the power of Shinokuni and was impatient to get back to his experiment. But Luffy stretched his head back, took a deep breath and readied his armament hardening. (Did Vergo use Armament Hardening on his knife stick weapon when he beat up Law?)
He yelled, “If I can’t breathe, I’ll kick your ass in one breath!” (Nice line, Luffy.)
Caesar yelled back, “You want to die, don’t you? Then I’ll give you the death you chose for yourself. Go to hell, Strawhat!”
Caesar almost crumbled. Almost. He dodged the headbutt, but the incoming Jet Gatling was too much. He was saved at the last second by Monet.
It turns out Monet is in possession of the Snow Snow Fruit, can control snow at will and - from what I’ve seen so far - she seems pretty adept at using it.
She was impressed that Luffy’s hits cracked the solid ice wall she had used to shield Caesar. My jaw dropped when Caesar’s head popped out from the ice shards and he was ready for another round.
Monet must have stepped in because she knows when the red mist descends, Caesar does dumb stuff (like persisting in squaring up to Strawhat Luffy like a belligerent drunk in a bar fight). As Caesar is not allowed to do dumb stuff leading to him being kidnapped, she appealed to his scientist ego.
“You must go, Master. This fight is meaningless.”
Caesar snapped out of his red mist rage and seemed to remember what was at stake. He laughed and swept away. “Goodbye, Strawhat! Be as wild as you want. I already have an idea of how to make you people test subjects. Look forward to it!” Nice to see Caesar can swallow his pride and stick to a plan, even if he needs a nudge.
Of course, Luffy went after him, but Monet wrapped her talons round his shoulders. Access denied. If anything happened to Caesar, Joker would kill her.
“That’s the bird guy I saw in the war, isn’t it? Who is he?”
Monet almost revealed everything. Almost. I sense a pattern emerging here. xD “He wants to kidnap Master and wants SAD to be...” She smiled, said no more, but added, “Now I know what you guys are going for.” (Referring to Law and their alliance plot.)
It was round about that time that the call from Doflamingo came through. They were to take out Law and Strawhat - but be extra careful around Strawhat as he was able to use Conqueror’s Haki (Doflamingo must have spotted that at Marineford.)
At the moment, Luffy is battling Monet. I’m guessing he’ll defeat her pretty quickly, even though she didn’t seem too phased about his Conqueror’s Haki. Then he’ll be running like hell through the labyrinthine complex hunting for Caesar again. Business as usual!
Sanji is Not Vergo’s Biggest Fan
This was strangely interesting clash. Not on account of Vergo. It was mostly Sanji. For all the pasting he gets for being pervy (among other things), he shows moments of genuine concern and consideration for his fellow human beings, no matter what side they are on.
While Sanji and Vergo battled, the G5 Marines looked on in shock. Why was Black Leg/Foot/Limb/Appendage Sanji helping them? He was a pirate. Worse still, the gas was seeping through. Even though he’d knocked Vergo into a wall, Sanji told the Marines to run. When Vergo unfolded himself from the impact crater, he readied a final blow - but then the distress call from the SAD Manufacturing Room intervened and he ducked out to pursue Law.
Sanji about to run himself before he spotted two unconscious Marines. He couldn’t help but risk his life to rescue them. Then, when the Marines showered him with praise, he was... well, he was Sanji-ish about it. “I only take praise from girls, etc.”
But when the Marines thanked him for helping them against the “Impostor Vergo” and when Tashigi kept up the ruse to as not to hurt her men, Sanji went along with it - even though I’m convinced he knows about the betrayal, as he told Vergo: “You’re the type of guy that our Captain hates most.”
So Sanji decided to spare the feelings of these Marines he didn’t know because he sensed, just like Tashigi did, that the truth would crush them.
That was a pretty nice thing to do, actually. Humanity points there for Sanji. And leadership points for Tashigi, into the bargain.
But... while Sanji was being a reluctant hero, Vergo was bouncing through the passage towards Building D. And someone very important was on the line!
The Feathered One Has Finally Arrived!
While the rest of the cast are currently swimming in the poison-gas-filled hell that is Punk Hazard, Doflamingo (or Doffy as his pals call him) has been living it up on the beautiful island of Dressrosa.** A calm blue sea. Colourful flowers. Architecture that looks Italian. Dressrosa is a nice place. A veritable paradise.
**(Or at least I think it’s an island. I have seen the Dressrosa arc in the dropdowns on CR and every other arc is a location, so I’m going with island for now.)
Vergo was in the middle of his report: “Trafalgar Law is in the SAD manufacturing room. No doubt he is betraying us.”
Doffy was not pleased with the news. “I have treated Law as my young brother and watched over him as he grew up. What a shame. He’s a the SAD manufacturing room, huh?”
At that point, a gun-handed lady staged a series of violent interruptions that did not phase Doflamingo in the slightest. Her swipes barely even broke his concentration.
“Here’s what I’d do if I were Law. First, I’d destroy that room-- And kidnap Caesar? No. I’d just kill him. Because Caesar is the only person in the world who knows how to produce SAD. But if Law does such a thing, I’ll be in trouble, Vergo. If Caesar is killed, no one else can produce that gas. Then it will ruin my business. And what would happen next if I got into such trouble? Misfortunes never happen singly.” (An oddly fatalistic viewpoint you have there, Doffy.)
A big dude tried to convince Baby 5 (the angry lady) to chill. “You can’t do that to the Young Master,” he admonished. (Young master. Interesting way of referring to Doflamingo. Is there an older master?)
An older lady asked Doflamingo what he would do with “that cute boy Law-chan.”
An older guy answered, “You know. Law is rebelling against us.”
Doflamingo ignored them all and gave Vergo his orders. “I need you to take care of Law. I wanna make him wish he was never born. So kill him in a horrific way.”
Vergo eventually offered to cut off Law’s ear and deliver it to Doflamingo.
“I look forward to seeing it!” Doflamingo replied (hilariously, as if Law’s ear were a new car or minor purchase).
He dealt with Baby 5 using his weird puppetmaster/control power and called Caesar and Monet. Once he warned them about Luffy’s Conqueror’s Haki, he announced Baby 5 and Buffalo would be sent to Punk Hazard. They all needed to come to Dressrosa at once.
Oooooooooooh, things are heating up! Now I’m wondering if Luffy and Law will even succeed in kidnapping Caesar. Doflamingo might show up with his big guns and snatch back his Cash Cow Scientist. Then again, that will mean Luffy might need to take an L. I don’t wan’t that to happen yet. It’s too soon after Marineford (well, it’s been over two years in the OPverse, but still.)
Not sure how this will unfold, but I am now majorly hyped for this plotline! :D
Twist Level: M. Night Shyamalan
Must admit, I have been thinking this Foxfire/Lost Son plot was kind of lame for a while now. It’s nowhere near as gripping as the Caesar/Law/Doflamingo conspiracy (to be fair, that’s a hard act to follow). Even the experiment kids have lost their plot shine in comparison.
Every time the action cut to the kids, or to Foxfire, I’d been thinking, “Okay this is nice but I need more Caesar, Luffy, Law or characters related to that plot strand, plz.”
But Oda suddenly merged them and threw in a major twist that has wrenched back my interest. The little dragon that has been harrying the Brownbeard Express (and hurting Brook’s feelings, HOW COULD YOU? xD) turned out to be Momonosuke: Foxfire’s own son!
Worse still, the Strawhats teamed up to beat the poor, little dragon and Foxfire almost kicked it to death because he bears a serious grudge against dragons. He kicked it to the point Brook actually said, “Dude... what did dragons do to you? You need to chill.” Foxfire almost sliced its scaly head off (his own son’s head!) Luckily, Nami shouted at them to get back on or they’d be left behind.
Once the Dragon Son was felled, the Brownbeard Express ran straight into Monster Chopper, who was desperately trying to wrangle the Candy-Addicted kids. Mocha is off on a mission to dispose of all the candy in the Biscuit Room. I foresee a lot of angry kids in the imminent future.
Another kid was the one who spilled the twist, right at the end of 608. She was about to head back to the Biscuit Room after examination and she mentioned a “secret room where no one is allowed to go.” Where the boy Momonosuke went and transformed into a dragon.
His own dad almost cut his freaking head off.
Can you believe that?
Such a great plot right now.
