Totally random vent: Just seen one account repeatedly commenting 'Next', 'Next pls', 'Next pls' on every recent shorts video on one Youtube channel, and. Erm. What in the fresh hell gives them that level of entitlement?
#stuff#vent#the absolute cheek#also to clarify. not that it makes it better if this was the case#this isn't even something like a series or a let's play where there is decisively going to be a 'next'#it's a satisfying videos/vlog type situation

hello again! i sent the ask earlier about stuck kihyun. i actually think i'm an anon of yours... 🚇? i can't remember for sure though lol oh how i wish i could go back in time and witness monsta x's debut and be here for the entire journey. did you witness it? i too ended up going and listening to his solo music after sending my last ask. i'll have to go watch the stuck mv asap though! i'm just having a whole kihyun moment recently. he is my bias though so it's bound to happen every again, but being a multi impacts the frequency >.<
OMG subway anon!!!!!! Hi!!!! how are you??? how have you been???
no, i didn't witness their debut either (I got into them in 2018 and became a casual listener and in 2020 it became official <3) but I kind of prefer it that way... i will elaborate. for one i do no have the stomach to watch No Mercy, Even today. after watching Pentagon Maker against my better judgment i vowed to never watch an idol survival show. also tbh mx's earlier music wasn't really my taste so i probbaly wouldn't have gotten too into them anyway.
That being said, not a day goes by where I don't wish I had gotten into them sooner so I could experience being Wonho's Monbebe... like this is legitimately one of my few regrets in life: not getting to truly experience ot7.
#i was actally talking to Mira about this the other day...#like how the way mx interact with mbb totally changed after wonho leaving and the whole 2019 situation (plus covid)#random vlives in the dorms and hotel rooms without supervision never happened again#vlives became this rare occurance only for special occasions (bdays. announcements. anniversaries etc) in an office at the company-#-with managers sitting behind the camera making sure they don't say anything 'wrong'#we were actually talking abt how fanfic is dying in mx fandom and how the fandom isn't nearly as active & interactive in other areas either#and we came to the conclusion that its at least partialy due to the death of spontaneous and chaotic vlives#and the death of vlive itself☠️#those vlives created a huge part of 'funny moment' videos and 'fanfic worthy interactions' and 'giffable content'#they gave us so much to talk about and make content with#and it also gave us glimps into idols' lives outside of photoshoots and mvs where they're in full makeup and in professional mode#we got to see them be carefree and joking around with each other and mx especially had NO FILTER#plus they were free🤡 unlike these dysfunctional paid apps idols have to use nowadays with the ‘private chat’ function that was created-#-solely to satisfy one specific type of fans and make more money. even the idols complain abt how laggy and awful the apps are and yet…#but nowadays its mostly just photoshoots and MV behinds and occasionally 'travel vlogs' or ' daily vlogs'#and even those are usually a 1-person thing. like the vlogs they posted of shownu during his enlistments. they were nice. dont get me wron#but they don't have anything that memorable and lasting... as funny and etertaining shownu is even on his own#its interactions between multiple members that create those really memorable moments and memories that nearly ever1 in the fandom recognize#anyway kshfsrdh#i ranted once again ksdhfksdjhfsd#ask#🚇anon

Daily Vlogs/grwm thoughts (and being fat within them)
So I absolutely love watching daily vlogs or grwm videos (ranging from makeup/get dressed to just little shots of peoples’ homes and them cleaning or something). There’s something so calm and lovely about it - like watching people cooking or cleaning in a Studio Ghibli movie. It romanticizes the basic tasks, and in a lot of ways, it brings a sense of contentment and appreciation towards life’s little moments amidst the backdrop of stress in our lives (both internal and external, local and global).
Part of it I think is a sort of psychological fulfillment - the ability to exercise control over at least some parts of our lives - but I think it’s also a love language to ourselves, whether it be the satisfaction of cleaning a dresser top, folding some clothes, or washing a sink full of dishes. There’s a tangible gratification that happens and it’s satisfying to complete these tasks for the future you. A type of self-care, in a way!
All this said - I absolutely love watching videos like this. And it’s something that I would like to maybe try doing some footage of sometime. Because another component I’d love to see in these videos is a fat person doing them, and also someone who is in a bit of a lower income bracket? I feel like it’s hard to find videos where you can see a person who fits both of those descriptors (and if anyone has any recommendations, I’d love to hear them)! But I don’t know - maybe it would speak to others to see little videos like that, and from a person like me (fat and lower income) who enjoys little bits of decorating and putting together cute outfits.
I hardly know what kind of videos I want to make still, besides a general fat fashion/life sort of blog/vlog situation - but something I’m finding is that I like sharing music, taking pretty little shots of the plants in my room and being motivated to get dressed. It’s chronicling my life in a way that I’ve never been able to do before, and being able to share me and the body I have enjoying little things like sharing clothes (and skincare maybe??), cleaning my room or looking at plants - it’s just really nice!
I guess I’m just curious if other people have this sort of experience or similar feelings with watching grwm or life vlogs - do you also wish you could see more fat and/or low income people living their lives and romanticizing the little facets of it? I’d love to hear your thoughts! :3c

Juno Headcanons!
Since Juno's a new hero, these are just some headcanons and things I'd like for her to have as apart of her lore! This was requested in my last post, just in a separate one c:
Juno's main inspiration for becoming a space ranger was Winston; she was very young when she heard about the monkeys on the moon that were developed to be able to talk, understand science, and was fascinated with these discoveries. The more she learned about the work on the moon and what happened, the more her love for space grew and she entered program after program to keep improving her knowledge, and keep growing her interest in space. She always reminds Winston that he should be proud of himself because without him, she wouldn't be able to work alongside them in the way she does now.
She's not directly related to Mei, but her family were extremely close and her mother was one of the experimental scientists who worked with her in Antarctica. This is sort of confirmed with the picture of Mei and another woman inside Juno's airship on the Dorado map, but it would be really cool if it was a situation where Juno had heard all about Mei from her mother, and that Mei helped her join Overwatch and learn the ropes.
Speaking of Juno and Mei, I think while working together, Mei would definitely be like a mother to Juno. She would always try and keep her safe, tell her off for getting herself in too much danger (in a very kind and soft way of course), and would make sure she was eating and taking care of herself between missions. She knows first hand how much stress gets put on them as Overwatch agents, so she wants to help Juno as much as she can.
Juno would probably be good friends with D.Va, Tracer and Kiriko. She'd relate to them a lot more and she'd be fascinated with their own stories and life experiences, especially Tracers and with her particle accelerator. Mei would have to remind her that it's rude to ask Tracer about how it happened so bluntly, but Tracer wouldn't mind if it satisfied Juno's curiosity. She would love to learn internet slang off D.Va and would be open to joining her on live streams (since D.Va's the type to vlog everyone and hold interview style streams just so she can beat them at video games they've never touched) and Kiriko would teach her about what's going on in the world and keep her in the loop with the news.
Juno's the type of woman that once she's invested in something, there's no stopping how far she'll go to learn everything about it and understand it completely. She would get involved with it as though it was her life long dream, when in reality she's just a curious cat who needs to know everything about something that's peaked her interest.
I can imagine Juno's the type to 'kill them with kindness' and she lives by that motto. She's been raised with the same mindset as Mei's where she believes that violence isn't the answer. But, she also understands why it's used sometimes and knows that if she needs to use it too, she won't hesitate if it's for the right reasons.
Everyone keeps Juno out of the loop with what happened to Overwatch initially. It was Winston's idea, even though Brigitte is against it. He doesn't want her image of Overwatch to be tainted with Blackwatch and vigilantes that have come out as a result of Overwatch being banned. Juno knows she's working with a secret organisation that's criminalised, but she doesn't know why and it seems like she'd be the type to turn to the wrong people for answers if she was backed into a corner.
Juno has a hard time with people pleasing in the sense that she doesn't know how to stop it. Tracer's teaching her how to be better with it and stand up for herself, because it's hard for her to see someone so naïve on the frontlines. It's easy for naivety to be used against you, so she knows that Juno needs to learn how to stand up for herself and say no before it's too late.

Jung Kook: “I think we’d better not ever stop”
We asked Jung Kook to draw anything he wanted for the photoshoot. The photos featured in this article are snapshots while Jung Kook was at work. Even when the photoshoot was finished, he left the studio only when he completed his drawing.
“Butter” has been at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six weeks straight. (This interview took place on July 12) Jung Kook: I was never attached to rankings, but as good as it is and as happy as I am since we’ve kept setting records since “Dynamite,” it also feels like a burden.
Is it because you’ve been successful beyond anything you could’ve imagined? Jung Kook: Sort of. A huge number of people have given me recognition, so I’ve been going along thinking I have to work harder, but we did even better with “Butter” than with “Dynamite,” so I think I ended up feeling weighed down. That’s what I’m like. BTS is an amazing team, but maybe my problem is that I’m not able to keep up with BTS.
You were the one to set the mood for “Butter” by singing the intro to the song. Didn’t that make you feel good? You were definitely as amazing as the team itself. (laughs) Jung Kook: “Butter” just feels so good. It’s different from our usual style, so it felt different while recording. The song’s great, too. I love that, but it’s separate from that feeling of pressure. I mean, I hope BTS does even better, honestly. Lately I’ve been thinking that that pressure means I need to do better. After “Dynamite” became number one on the Billboard Hot 100, it’s not like we’re being forced to try harder; it’s just my personal ambition. I think I can do better.
Why do you think “Dynamite” wasn’t as satisfying? Jung Kook: Because I couldn’t express everything I wanted the way I wanted to. When I listen to the remixes, I think about how I could’ve sung it differently. Like, “Aw, man! If only I could do it again!” (laughs) I got some things from singing “Dynamite,” like, I’m not quite there yet. So I try to practice singing at least an hour every day, no matter what. Any singer who’s been at number one on Billboard for six weeks had better be really good at singing. That’s what I think.
Something about the way you sang in English probably made you hear your own singing in a new light. Your tone is different from when you sing in Korean. Jung Kook: Sometimes you have to bear down a little on your words to talk in Korean. Plus I’m from Busan, so I speak in a little bit of a low voice. I don’t have that when I use English, though, so it’s like there’s pros and cons. It’s easy to use your head voice when you sing in English as well, but it can be uncomfortable, while in Korean, if you try to sing higher using your head voice, it can sound a bit nasally sometimes. But at the same time, it can be hard to break old habits when I sing in English since I’ve always been singing in Korean.
“Dynamite,” “Butter” and “Permission to Dance” are all English songs and you were in charge of the introduction for all three. It seems like you put some thought into how to create different impressions for each song. Jung Kook: “Butter’s” really bouncy, as you know. It’s a little deep, it’s got a driving beat, it’s rhythmical. And before I record, I listen to a recording with guide vocals, and then when I go to record, I have to keep all these characteristics in mind and mix them together with my own style properly in this subtle way. I think it’s seriously an intuition. (laughs) I had a hard time when we were recording, obviously, and when I first did it, my voice didn’t sound right, so I had to keep looking for the right voice. I think the most important thing is to really nail the voice you want to use first, and so is figuring out how to make it your own. In “Permission to Dance,” for instance, I sang it more the way I wanted than the style the guide vocals had.
How do you come to that kind of conclusion? Jung Kook: Everyone’s voice has to sound different, so it can be overpowering if I copy the guide too much when I sing. So sometimes I follow what I’m thinking of exclusively. I was thinking about how I should sing the first part of “Permission to Dance,” and when I went to record it, even Pdogg, the producer, told me, “It’ll work best if you go with your own voice, your own style.”
What effect does listening to so many other artists’ songs and analyzing them have on you? Jung Kook: The more I listen to music, the more my vocals change. It really changes a lot when we get a song and listen to it and practice it. I guess you could say my vocal cords are always readying themselves for improvement when I practice. (laughs) And improving while I record, and just improving any time I sing. But there’s also times when it suddenly doesn’t sound right when I try it the way I want, so I just give it a try, or I quickly look up other vocalists and listen to their songs or ask some of the older artists. Doing that helps me find a certain voice I’m looking for.
You sang uncannily similar to SUGA when you briefly sang his part in “Life Goes On” over V LIVE, even though your voices are different. You’re quick at picking up on the characteristics of others’ vocals. Jung Kook: I used to rely on that a lot. Like, I can hear [the characteristics in their voices] at least. (laughs) Now, though, it’s like, Oh, [I] guess I shouldn’t do it that way. You can safely assume I’ve heard a countless number of other singers’ songs. Then I would think a lot about how I want to sing, thinking how those other singers would sing, before making my own voice. I carry over those people’s voices and vocal patterns and think about how it would sound if they sang in this room, then I think about how it would sound in my own voice, and then sometimes I can make my voice sound similar if I try to.
It seems like it was important for you to find your own style for the performances as well. Not only were the three English songs different from your earlier work, but there were also a lot of parts in “Butter” that you could only perform through gestures and facial expressions. Jung Kook: Before “Butter,” I just worked really hard, and had fun doing it, in whatever way I wanted but starting with “Butter” I think I managed to do things in a more thought-out way. I was more attentive to my facial expressions and movements and thought through what I should do in each situation in each performance to do it in my own style. And it was kind of a fun process. I don’t feel any pressure about that; I just thought I can create that kind of image if I just try to be a little cool and not cringey (laugh) for people from now on.
What image do you want people to have of you, as an artist? One that says, This is who I am as an artist right now. Jung Kook: I don’t think I’m at the level where I need to worry about that yet. I have a general idea about what kind of singer I want to be and what I want to be really good at, but I don’t think I’ve ever imagined defining myself as a certain type of singer yet. Because it’s an ongoing process, when I can prove myself, then, bam!—I give proof and become a truly influential person, only then can I go around saying, This is the kind of singer I am. For now, I don’t have anything, I guess you could say, “substantial” to show off. I think, Even if I’m part of BTS and tour stadiums, does that automatically make me better than other artists? And then, by thinking so, I center myself again.
Couldn’t you be a little softer on yourself? Jung Kook: No. I have to think about the future many times throughout the day. For example, sometimes I spend a whole day doing whatever, but whenever I do, I regret it severely. So I promise myself that I’ll get this and that done. That’s how I live, because if I don’t think that way, I won’t jump into action to get anything done. It’s like the title of our song, “Life Goes On”: the treadmill just keeps on going, and we’re on it, so I always think, I’d better not ever stop. I can express myself better if I think while I talk, and I can organize my thoughts while reflecting back on what I said. I try to think about everything in that way. I think I need to improve, whether it’s at singing or my hobbies—more than now, better than now.
Are you doing particularly well with any of your hobbies these days? It seems like you got a little better at painting, judging by your vlog. Jung Kook: I think I’m getting better overall, little by little. My vocals are where I’ve definitely improved lately. And bowling! (laughs) I learn how to paint by watching videos on YouTube. I think I’m good at picking up skills by emulating others. I’m actually not good at learning things. (laughs) I just like to do what I like to do and I naturally learn from the people around me, I guess. And I think the things I really want to learn are still the same: singing, English, exercise.
Learning from other people and wanting to do better is a form of recognizing who you can compare yourself against. Are you at all influenced by the other members? You’ve talked a lot about how much you’ve been influenced by the six older members. Jung Kook: I think I started paying attention to people other than myself after I moved to Seoul and met the other members. I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings, but I do notice them now. It’s like I really started to see myself for who I am from that point on.
That makes me think of when you talked about seeing the sights in Seoul for the first time on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, the way you got to know the feelings the outside world can give. Jung Kook: The first time I saw the streets of Seoul, they were enormous. I was really worried, since I’d just come to Seoul, and I got to know myself because of the change of environment. I think it was the very first time for me to think for myself, and it became the starting point for me to get to know myself.
When you took some candy you liked from the BTS pop-up store, j-hope said you were still the same from when you first met when you were 13 years old. Do you think you haven’t changed at all compared to back then? Jung Kook: In some way I must be better or different on the outside, but I’m sure there’s still things about me that are the same as when I was 13. I learned how to be considerate towards the other members and how to understand them because I fought with them occasionally, but nobody’s going to stop me if I take candy. I take it like I always did. Like when Hobi and I fought over a single banana. (laughs)
But what’s changed about you, then? Being a member of BTS must have had an effect on your view of the world. You sought understanding from your vegetarian viewers when you were eating meat in a salad on V LIVE before. Jung Kook: I thought to ask because I know that many people abroad, and in Korea, too, are vegetarians. It’s one of the things you learn when you tour around many different countries. Obviously I don’t know about every single country’s culture or personal identities or choices, so even though I have a long way to go, I think it’s important to respect them based on what I do know.
I think you must know that you’ve had an influence on a lot of people. Partway into your V LIVE, you talked about how you couldn’t find any of the kombucha you drank before anymore because it was all sold out and you thanked your fans for giving a little help to small business owners. Jung Kook: Restaurants aren’t doing well and there’s a lot of closed-up shops in the markets now, as you know. So if I’ve had an effect on even one person, it’s been worthwhile. And sometimes the people I’ve had an influence on go on to make donations, too. There could always be someone who takes advantage of the things I say or do, but I’m confident a lot of people will use them for good.
This influence is something you’ve crafted with your fandom, ARMY. I imagine you’ve been influenced not only by the other members but also by ARMY since you were young. Jung Kook: There’s a lot going on inside a concert venue: the lighting, the stage, the floor, the stage design, the video projected on the screen. Plus there’s the music, the dancing, and us. Even if they’re all in balance, ARMY has to be there to complete the scene. When it comes to our concerts, ARMY are the ones who bought the tickets and they’re the main characters. I think everything we focus on comes back down to ARMY. We share in each other’s feelings and they’re the source of our strength, and I think they have synergy with us. It’s not enough to just say ARMY and us like each other, or that we love each other. There’s definitely more to it than that. It’s, well—I don’t know. It’s hard to put into words. (laughs)
I think you need ARMY to be there at the concert for you to fully realize the concert you’re aiming for. Jung Kook: Yes, exactly! Even if everything’s set up and we’re in front of the camera, if ARMY’s not there, it’s a completely different concert. Even when ARMY’s there and there’s a live camera broadcasting it, I’m like, There’s a camera? Sure. Obviously I care about it when I have to say hello to ARMY sitting on the other side, in front of their screens. Other than that, I get all my energy from all the ARMY sitting right in front of me. That’s how much they mean to me. It’s completely different.
The concept for BTS 2021 MUSTER SOWOOJOO was similar to being in concert with an audience. It must’ve made you think of ARMY even more. Jung Kook: I’m seriously good as long as I can perform. I can put on more and more concerts in the space of a year if we’re touring. I felt it more profoundly this time since we couldn’t perform with an audience. Wow, I really took things for granted all this time. I should’ve done more.
You must be disappointed. It’s your time to shine as a vocalist and as a performer. Jung Kook: (sighs) I, well, I really need to hurry up and make a mixtape, first of all. (laughs)
How’s your mixtape going? Jung Kook: I was working on it just before I came. But it’s hard! (laughs) I could just make it about myself, and then it would be like, I started as a trainee when I was 13, I worked hard, and found success. But anyone could do that. So I keep thinking I want to make up my own original, complex story and write the songs from there. Billie Eilish’s debut album left a big mark on me when it came out, in that respect. And it’d be nice to have a cohesive flow to the tracklist, but even if it’s all jumbled up, that’s fine, too, as long the good songs keep on coming. That’s sort of what I’m thinking. So these days, rather than focusing on the album’s story as a whole, I’m just going to write whatever it is I want to say in each song. If I get that feeling right after listening to a track, I’ll try and make it. And Im going to try to make it a little bit light-hearted.
It can’t be easy for you to concentrate on it if you’re making it here and there between all your other work. Jung Kook: It’s fine if it takes a really long time—it’s just hard to work on it in pieces. I mean, if I stay up late working away at it, it’s hard to get through the next day. (laughs) I stayed up all night again last night and slept between appointments today, but I’m still going to keep working like this today and then go work on my mixtape again anyway. I’ll do my best to release it as soon as possible. I want to write and record a lot of material.
s there anything about yourself, other than your work or concerts, that you want to show to ARMY as an individual? Jung Kook: I want to show them, that, umm … Just my real self, Jeon Jung Gook. That I’m fairly easy-going, very honest, and nothing special.
What kind of person do you think you are now? Jung Kook: I’m, I’m a, lazy … person. (laughs).
You’re being very hard on yourself. (laughs) How could you be lazy if you’re a part of BTS? Jung Kook: No, I really am lazy. (laughs) If I were alone I’d probably miss a lot of my appointments. (laughs) But I have to avoid making any mistakes when we function as a group. I’m really lazy, and—oh, I overthink things sometimes. I think more than people might expect, and I do things my way. Plus, even though I don’t care what other people think of me, I kind of still do. (laughs) I have no idea. I’m sort of goofy—? But I’m also trying to live a full life—I’m that kind of person. (laughs).
Thank you for the interview. Oh, by the way, I liked your “Butter” fan cam. Your moves were really agile. Jung Kook: Really? Do you think I’ve gotten better? (laughs).

What steps would you take in order to track down a thief? Not too far, honestly. I accept things pretty easily so if I’ve processed that I’ve been robbed, I am most likely to just let it go. I’ll feel like shit, of course, but I would just let it go and scold myself for failing to be attentive.
What is something that one of your family member collects? My mom used to collect printed table napkins from different restaurants, but obivously she hasn’t been able to continue that for the past year and a half. My dad and brother used to collect magazines but both stopped a few years ago.
What would you do if you were able to have lunch with the queen? The journalist in me will probably just ask her questions about her everyday life, how she spends it, what she’s into and what she’s not into these days.
If you got to create a new flavor of ice cream, what would it be? This is a little hard considering there are a lot of small businesses out there already getting creative and quirky with ice cream flavors so it’s just hard to tell if a certain flavor has already been invented or not. One thing I haven’t seen, though, is curry. I’d buy a pint of that in an instant.
What are some questions that you would ask your favorite celebrity? His latest vlog finds. He once shared a video of this smaller content creator, so I’m guessing that’s what he likes doing in his spare time and I’m sure he would have a bunch of other just as interesting recommendations.
If you were able to set up a stand, what would you sell? Street food.
Would you like to go deep sea diving? Why or why not? Yeah. I’m always willing to try daring, not-the-safest-thing-in-the-world activities haha.
What would life be like if you lived on a cloud? The realist in me just wants to say I’d plummet straight to the ground.
What would you find at the top of a magic beanstalk? Idk, my creativity can’t be bothered to be challenged.
What is one food you would not want to have rain down from the sky? Durian. It would hurt and stink like shit.
Which animal's characteristics are similar to your own personality? I don’t really assign sets of personalities to animals.
If you were in a department store, which aisle would you check out first? I personally still go for the toys/video games section first HAHAHA
What are some of your hobbies? They include going to museums, exploring new food and restaurants, traveling to different cities and countries, and reading about history.
You've opened a store that only sells purple items - what do you sell? BTS merch hahahahah duhhhh
What is something important that you've lost, and did you ever find it? I lost a rosary that came straight from the Vatican. No, I never found it again. I feel bad about it not because it’s a religious object, but because it came from my grandma.
Have you ever moved to a new school before? If so, how did it feel? I mean, I had to change schools when I was moving up from high school to college, but I’ve never changed schools within the same chapter of my studies, like in the middle of elementary or high school. But to answer the question, it had been a very liberating and empowering experience. I hated the rules in my Catholic school and there were so many elements from that place that made me hide so much about myself. The fact that I could wear shorts and curse and attend rallies and cut class and make my own class schedules in college felt incredibly freeing and satisfying.
What would've happened if Cinderella never went to the ball? See magic beanstalk question.
If you had one day to do anything at all, what would you choose? I would drive to Tagaytay and find a cozy restaurant and eaaaaatttt awaaaayyyy.
What are a few of your favorite songs? I really really like Singularity by V, Over the Hills by Hayley Williams, and So Far Away by Agust D and Suran.
Have you ever legitimately forgotten to do homework? All the time. I never wrote down homework.
--
If you were a witch, what kind of a spell would you cast? On who? I don’t care about casting spells on people. I just want my cravings to show up in the snap of a finger hahaha. Can that be part of a witch’s scope of work? Kjdgfhsdfskjfhs
Do you enjoy autumn leaves or spring flowers more? Why? I wouldn’t know. I experience neither over here.
What is your favorite sport to play? What about watch? Table tennis. Favorite to watch would be either tennis or pro wrestling.
Have you ever gone on a cruise before? To where? Yeah. It was an East Asian cruise so I traveled to Shanghai, Jeju, and Fukuoka.
What would you do if you were invisible for a day? Probably go to the bigger houses in the village and see how fancy they get.
Depending on where you live, why might a day of school get canceled? Typhoon, floods. A lot of places are incredibly prone to flooding, so as long as it’s been raining super hard the chances for a class suspension will get high.
What types of transportation do you think we will see in the future? I dunno. It seems like we’re at that point where everything is in the process of being invented or perfected already.
What were some of your toys you always played with when you were little? I liked kitchen sets and anything with lots of buttons, so like toy telephones or cash registers.
If you were a movie star, what would a day in your life be like? I have no clue apart from the fact that I’m just glad I would assumedly have more than enough money to buy whatever I’m craving whenever I want hahaha.
If you invented a time machine, what year would you like to go to, and why? Realistically I wouldn’t change a thing; but if I had to answer this question I’d go back to 2016 and never ask out Gab a second time, so that the next four years wouldn’t end up being such a waste of my time.
What is your favorite holiday and why? I don’t have one. I’m not a big holiday ~celebrator.
What is something that you like to do while on vacation? Try food I’ve never tried before. The more unconventional or obscure, the better.
If you could meet any fictional character from a book, who would it be? Eh, don’t really have anyone in mind.
What are some common places that people tour when they come to your city? There’s the waterfalls in the upper part of the city – I’m just not sure if it’s still a popular spot but it certainly was when I was a kid. There’s also an art museum that I’m certain is a lot more frequented now.
What's one food that you did not enjoy as a child, but do as an adult? Curry.
How would having no electricity affect your daily routine? I wouldn’t be able to attend work, at least not for the whole day. It would also feel a lot warmer without the electric fan, which would in turn make me cranky.
If you had one wish, what would it be? A renovated room with a dedicated corner for all my merch.
Say someone gives you a magic sweater. What happens when you wear it? Idk.
If you built a new city, how would you convince people to move there? I wouldn’t.
What is one of your favorite movies? Why is it one of your favorites? Two for the Road. It has Audrey Hepburn, it’s a realistic rom-com, and the chemistry between the two leads is superb.
--
If you were given a certain amount of time to live, would you want to know? Yeah for sure, I would want to know in a heartbeat.
What would you do if you were able to stop time? I don’t know what I would do, but that would be a nice...opportunity, I guess? to experiment with or try out certain decisions and see how well or unwell they would work out to be. So that when time resumes, I’d know better on how to best handle a situation.
Do you think that long distance relationships would be for you? I wouldn’t actively go for it, but I’m not shutting down the possibility either.
Is there a popular social media platform that you don't have an account for? I have one for all the main ones, I think. Even Instagram, I made an account not too long ago to finally join the platform.
How old were you when you found out about Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc? I never knew the Easter Bunny was a thing until I started taking these surveys at like 14. I never really believed in Santa either, and the only figure I was super disappointed to learn that it didn’t exist was the tooth fairy.
Who is your favorite Disney Princess? Rapunzel.
Which freaks you out more - clowns or porcelain dolls? Porcelain dolls. They look more innocent, which somehow makes them creepier.
What was the last mistake that you learned from? Hm, just a minor work thing that would be too complicated to explain here.
Do you prefer "regular pencils" or mechanical ones? Why? Regular. I always break off the tips of mechanical pencils.
What is one little-known music artist you'd recommend? Andi made me listen to The Drums recently and I’ve been loving their sound so far; they would be perfect on a road trip. I’ve only listened to one album, though.
What is your favorite Pixar film? Toy Story!
Who was the last person to send you any sort of message on social media? Angela sent me a video meme.
Where were you on September 11th, 2001? I don’t know...probably already being put to bed. Either way I wasn’t fully conscious yet as I had only been 3 and living on the other side of the planet.
Name your favorite green vegetable. Broccoli, spinach, bell peppers, or asparagus. IDK I love veggies hahahaha
Could you handle a friends with benefits type of situation? Not for me. I’m not even into sex.
Do you prefer using a brush or a comb on your hair? Comb.
What's your favorite flavor of potato chips? SALTED EGG. I’m obsessed; I had like five bags this week alone.
Would you rather build a snowman or a snow fort? Why? I dunno; I’ve never tried making either.
At what age do you believe children should begin having screen time? I’m not too sure at this point, but I do know I don’t plan on being too strict with my kids. I’d let them watch stuff on an iPad from like age 3 or 4, but one thing I would change from how I was raised is putting a limit on their screen time, maybe half an hour to an hour a day.
If you had to give a speech, what would it be on? I’d be down for any topic as long as I was given ample time to research, honestly. I like public speaking.

Good morning ✨
So now we are pretty much in an official lockdown in the UK; the confirmed cases and death toll are increasing daily... I want to talk about where I think this virus REALLY came from, as I truly believe this was not spread like how everyone thinks.
I really do believe this virus was man made; I believe this was a big distraction from what really was going on. Current wars in other countries have been completely forgotten about! World War 3 was about to break out but suddenly we don’t hear about it anymore because the only thing spoken about in any form of media is Covid-19... not sure if this is any use to anyone but Covid-19 translated into Hebrew then back to English is “Kobe”. Which celebrity death was all over the media then got taken over by Covid-19? Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s. Now this takes me to a couple of episodes from The Simpson’s, where they have predicted many things to have come true.. 9/11, Donald Trump’s presidency... how weird is it that they predicted Kobe’s death? Even weirder, they predicted both the Coronavirus and Tom Hanks’ isolation... and that’s all I’ll say on The Simpson’s, they seem to have predicted many things to have happened in the last 20-30 years... just food for thought with that one. Lastly on predictions, I’m sure many people have seen a picture on Twitter which has even been retweeted by Kim Kardashian West; it’s a snippet of a book written many years ago, stating “in 2020 a pneumonia like virus will attack the globe, vanishing just as quickly as initial onset”. Still not think it’s somewhat man made?
Let’s also think about what’s really in those chemtrails we see in the sky; yes we see them at certain times of the day because of air pressure and weather etc, but do we really and truly know what’s in them? One more thing to think about, how convenient that all this Brexit stuff went on for nearly 4 years and then we formally left the EU January 31st 2020? Brexit now means that the Covid-19 vaccine won’t be available in the UK as quickly as other countries... weird timing, right?
I don’t believe this was necessarily spread through Chinese people from Wuhan eating bats or whatever it was. Yes the first cases came from Wuhan, but why weren’t flights from China suspended straight away? I believe this virus was planted in the food markets as a way for them to have population control over China, where let’s not forget for a while the families were restricted to one child each as their population was over 1billion. Flights were not suspended to other countries to allow the spread, which they knew would be very easy and very quick. This, in my eyes, was a way for the governments to have some form of population control and also climate control, now that everyone is staying home much more of the time, pollution levels have decreased a lot, so much so that there are fish back in the canals of Venice. I expect to see dolphins in the river Thames within the next month (🙄).
Anyway, here’s a video I thought I’d include that I came across on Facebook yesterday - it reiterates a lot of what I’ve said and it’s really interesting.
https://www.facebook.com/124411634236128/posts/3136593436351251/?vh=e&d=n
Now moving on to mental health during isolation. I used to hate constantly being at home, being left alone just me with my anxious thoughts. This is going to be a testing time for many people who also feel this way. It’s important that we do not disconnect ourselves from our circles; yes we may not be able to physically see the people we want to be around, but we are so lucky to have the technology we do where we can call, video call (with more than one person at a time now) and stay in touch via social media - had this outbreak happened 20 years ago we would have been far worse off in this sense. Most importantly, if you do feel low, REACH OUT! Talk to anyone you can! Now that everyone is at home in the same boat, many more people have more time now to put into conversations. Remember, this is not going to last forever. I just personally hope that we don’t have a pandemic of social anxiety once everything goes back to normal - people will be so used to staying indoors most of the time and in the comfort of their own homes that they may feel anxious being back out into the world, unable to re-adjust to usual life as quickly as others. But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it...
For those that do struggle with anxious thoughts & being at home for much of the time, or even for those who just get really bored and restless easily, here are 12 things for you to do during your day to keep yourselves busy!
1. Learn to cook
- this a great new skill to take up and one that can keep you occupied for a few hours during your day! Here’s a site with some apps (most of which are free) that give you cooking recipes, advice and can even show you recipes with what you can make do with what’s in your cupboards right now! There are also some great YouTube tutorials out there!
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/best-recipe-apps/%3famp
2. Learn a new language
- How cool would it be to come out of isolation billingual?! Okay not completely billingual, but beginning to speak a new language? This is a great task to put your minds to! Here are a couple of free apps that have been rated 4 stars or more on the App Store for iPhone. If they aren’t available on Androids, these apps have websites and there are plenty of other apps for Android too!
3. Find 5 films of different genres to watch and watch one a day.
4. Find 3 series with a decent amount of episodes/seasons and spread throughout the week.
- this goes for both 3 & 4; I believe binge watching in a time like this is not ideal! Imagine completing the series or film marathon you love in a whole day and then feeling like you have nothing else to watch! Spread the episodes/films out so you have something to do each day!
5. Pamper
- whilst taking care of ourselves mentally, we can’t forget that we have to take care of our skin too! Aside from drinking plenty of water, morning/nightly skincare routines are important to keep your glow, check out YouTube for some tips if you need them! Stay consistent too! You can even make homemade face masks, which are also on YouTube. Giving yourself a mani/pedi should take up a decent amount of time - your skin feels amazingly soft after too!
6. Exercise!
- we have no excuse for not doing exercise now! For those that love a walk or a jog, we are still allowed to leave the house to do this, whether it be around the block or in the park (which will be patrolled). Finding yourself a home exercise routine is a great way to keep occupied and feel good, as we know when we get that endorphin rush after a workout! There are many routines you can find online, and if you’re already a member in a gym and have their app, I’m sure there are routines on there too. If you have kids then you can all do this together! Joe Wickes AKA the Body Coach is doing online PE lessons for kids, so now you can all keep active. I’ll link his YouTube channel below:
https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1
7. Meditate
- For those with anxiety, meditation is so important! Meditation trains the mind to keep calm with racing thoughts and to have a mind over matter overall thought process. Here are some great apps below, which I have also used (they really are amazing):
8. Draw/be creative
- drawing/painting/sculpting - all so therapeutic and calming. They really allow you to put your mind to a task for a lengthy period of time and allow yourself to explore your creative side! A great way to learn new things about yourself if you never knew you had a creative side 😝
9. Vlog/blog your day/keep a journal
- write/express your feelings! If you are feeling low this is so important - this way you can understand your emotions more logically and your form of expression allows you to release them too. For those who are simply just getting bored, this is a fun way to keep occupied throughout the day! You can blog about what you’re doing, vlog your exercise routine etc. It’s great fun!
10. Organise/clear out cupboards/draws/wardrobes
- ever seen Stacey Solomon’s “Tap to Tidy” stories on Instagram? So satisfying! You could do the same. This is a pretty lengthy task and a great way to escape anxious thoughts by putting order in place!
11. Read
- reading is a lovely form of escapism where we can go into our own world for however long we want. It gives us a story to focus on and really become engrossed in the situation and characters, whether it be fiction or non-fiction. If you don’t own books, there are audiobooks, e-books and google books all online where you can find whichever book you want to read/listen to!
12. Find one thing to learn about each day and spend some time researching and learning loads.
- interested in space? Astrology? Egyptian history? Well grab a notebook and YouTube! Find anything in the entire world that you want to learn more about and watch some YouTube videos on it. I say YouTube videos because I personally believe this is the least boring way to learn about something. Write down some notes or draw visual notes on it, whichever way you learn best!
Basically, what all these tasks have in common is that it puts your mind to something fun, that you can really focus on for a decent period of time! Don’t leave yourself anxious or bored in isolation, keep your relationships with others both physically and virtually where you can. Keep yourself to doing something, stay as busy as you can/want! Don’t forget, if you’re feeling low or any type of way, please reach out and talk to someone/anyone, do not let yourself run away with these thoughts over something temporary!

Brighton || Joe Sugg
Requests are currently [ CLOSED ]
Masterlist can be found [ HERE ]
Word Count: 2.2k+
A/N: This is a request from a while ago that I could never find inspiration for but now here it is, better late than never huh?? Remember, requests take longer to write because I like to make them 100% and a lot longer than my usual imagines, so if you have requested an imagine please be patient, I promise It’ll be posted at some point xo
"M'so sleepy." You mumble, mostly to yourself but partly toward Joe as you walked into his office with the duvet wrapped around your shoulder and your bottom lip jutted out.
He turns his vlogging camera toward you and throws his head back in laughter at the state of you. "Oh my god, you look like Dobby the house elf."
You roll your eyes and tug the heavy quilt closer to your body, grabbing the iPad from his desk before sitting down on the floor with your back against the wall as he continued to explain to his viewers what your plans for the day were. You turn the screen on and go onto the Tumblr app, already logged into your account seeing as Joe wasn't active on his; both a blessing and a curse. You'd pay to watch him scroll down the 'thatcherjoe' tag.
"You wanna tell the viewers what you're gonna be doing this morning, gorgeous?" Joe asks, and you look up from the screen with your face scrunched up. "I'll take that as a no." He chuckles amusedly, turning the phone back to himself and rolling his eyes. "See what I have to put up with every morning guys? Madness." He declares, smiling at the camera for just a second longer before he covered the lens with his end and stopped recording.
You look up from the iPad screen when he stands up to readjust his green screen, biting your lip curiously. "What're you filming?"
He glances down at you and shrugs. "Well, there's finally a new episode of The Walking Dead out for me to film, and then if I've got time I'll probably film another Sims video." You hum in understanding and let your eyes follow him around the room as he begins to set up his equipment. He glances at you over his shoulder and grins. "You staying to watch, love?"
Biting the skin on the inside of your cheek, you nod and push your head into the comforting duvet. "Maybe for a while, but then I need to go pack."
He nods and flicks on one of his umbrella lights making you mean and look away with a wince, only looking up when he crouches down in-front of you and cups your cheeks in his hands, brushing his lips against your and smiling. "Goodmorning, pretty."
"Morning, handsome." You mumble, pulling away from his lips before kissing him quickly once more before he stood back up and walked over to his gaming chair, turning on the camera and his microphone before slipping his headphones onto his ears and filming his intro.
You only managed to stay in the insanely bright room for around twenty minutes before you abandoned the duvet and proceeded to walk around the apartment in just your underwear, which wasn't so much of a rare occurrence as it perhaps should've been. You contemplate whether or not to make food, but breakfast had never really been your forte anyways so you eventually decide not to bother and instead head up to the bedroom to start packing.
Joe was done within the next hour or so, which meant you could finally stop attempting to pack what he needed and instead leave him to sort his own things out as you finalize everything you needed for the day. By the time you were done and had made a quick smoothie for you and Joe to share, the Uber had arrived to take you and Joe to Tanya's, where she was waiting to give you both a life into Brighton.
Luckily Tan only lived around twenty minutes away, and so the uber ride was relatively short, but still long enough for yourself and Joe to have a quiet conversation about the movie you'd both watched the night before as you shared the green smoothie. You pull up to Tanya's house and thank the driver before jumping out and walking up to the front door, knocking twice and sharing a silly look as you waited for the door to be opened.
Tan opens the door with a wide smile on her face as she squeals and pulls you both into quick hugs before beckoning you inside and apologizing for Martha, who was barking at your feet, excited to see you again after what seemed to have been forever. Seeing as you were already slightly late, you can only spend a small amount of time at Tanya's, which was mostly spent having a playfight with Jim on the living room floor which you were ninety-eight percent sure Joe had captured for his vlog.
Soon enough you found yourself sat in the back of Tanya's car with your laptop open in your lap, drafting up a few emails and laughing at Joe as he made a stupid joke before pulling our his phone and holding it up.
"Is this an instagram story or a vlog?" Tanya asks quietly as she watched Joe hold up his phone from the corner of her eye all whilst checking her mirrors. They'd stopped at a red light, and joe had taken that as his chance to continue vlogging.
"A vlog. So we're on route to Brighton." Joe says as he holds the camera higher and Tanya begins to wave. "Tan is at the wheel! We've actually made it, well- I mean, how far into the journey actually are we?" He asks, though before either of the girls could answer he works it out himself. "Like an hour into the journey almost."
"Half an hour." Tanya corrects and Joe nods.
"Half an hour into the journey, and we're still here." He grins, fist-pumping the air as he glanced out of his window for a split second as tan began to talk.
"We're still alive." She smiles widely, tilting her head towards the camera as she spoke.
"Which is surprising since Tan hasn't driven in a bloody long time." You pipe up, closing your laptop and putting it on the seat next to you before leaning forward and smiling at the vlog.
Tan laughs and shakes her head. "No- oh and, also, are we going to get to any big roads?"
Joe nods. "Well, yeah. We're actually gonna be going onto a motorway at one point."
"Do you think we actually will though?" She asks, a frown on her face as she tried desperately to stay positive about the whole situation.
You laugh and nod, causing Joe to tilt the camera toward you. "I'm pretty sure we will, yeah." Tan sighs and chuckles a little when you eye her suspiciously. "When was the last time you drove on a motorway, Tan?"
"About four years ago." She replies, turning back to face the road as you share a look with Joe before sinking back into your seat and smiling to yourself as your boyfriend continues to tease the driver on camera and you proceed to continue writing up a few emails that you'd been ignoring for the past day or so.
The drive was full of laughter and groaning as you got stuck in traffic in Croydon, though you managed to make it through the entire journey without complaining once that it was taking too long, something Joe grinned and praised you on when you arrived at the Zalfie household, much to Tan's amusement.
There was a flurry of hello's and hugs and happy birthday's before everyone piled into the bigger car, Joe, yourself and Tan in the backseats as Zoe and Alfie sat in the front. The two Sugg's both began to vlog at the same time and you couldn't help but laugh when Joe gave up and held his phone down, frowning grumpily as Zoe continued to vlog. "So we've got Joe and (Y/N) in the back, Tan." She draws out Tan's name. "You're like our three kids."
"Incest!" You yelled out in amusement at the exact same moment as Joe yelled, "I'm an astronaut!" Equally as loudly making you groan and cover your ears and nudge him softly. He laughs and wraps his arm around your shoulder, pulling you into his side and kissing the top of your head as Alfie begins to back out of the driveway.
You arrived at the hotel in no time, and checking in proved hardly any trouble compared to a few other times you'd had to check into a hotel just for one night. But luck seemed to be on your side that day.
You and Joe walk hand in hand up to the room, having parted ways with the rest of the group in the lobby once everyone had acquired their room keys.
Walking into the room first, you grin widely and place your luggage down onto the queen sized bed before you started checking out the place. Satisfied, you sit on the bed with your legs crossed and a smile of content on your face as you open up your handbag and bring your phone out.
"Tell you what guys, I have made t to my room here in the Artist- oh, what was it called?" He furrows his brows in confusion as he shows the vlog parts of the room.
"Artist Residence." You remind him, your voice soft and a small smile on your face as he glances back at you with a grateful wink.
"Artist Residence, uh, in Brighton. And all this reclaimed stuff looks incredible. And they have Joe's tea, um, 'welcome to the Artist Residence in Brighton. Have a few drinks on us', smiley face." He pans the camera down on the handwritten note as he reads it aloud. "And two drink vouchers. But everything about this room, like, I love the finish. Like this whole vintage type of stuff is incredible."
"It really is beautiful." You add in agreement, nodding your head as Joe turns the camera toward you. "Have you showed them the view yet?"
He shakes his head and clicks his fingers, walking over to the window and beginning to talk about the view and the I360 that was perfectly centre in the view from the window.
Later on that day, you and Joe were walking down the streets of Brighton, your jacket pulled tightly around you and Joe's hand entwined with yours as you walked the short distance from the hotel to the restaurant where everyone was meeting for Zoe's birthday meal.
"I love this place." You say quietly as you walk down the cobblestone path, looking up at Joe as he looked down at you and smiled. "Look how beautiful everything is." Your words are soft as you look up and around at your surroundings, in awe of everything you were seeing.
"Yeah, me too." He nods, and you smile at him gently, tightening your grip on his hand as you use your other to tuck a piece of hair that was tickling your nose behind your ear.
The meal was wonderful, you finally got to catch up with Poppy and Mark after way too long of not seeing them both, and you managed to sneak your present to Zoe inconspicuously under the table. She'd been confused at first, but when you quietly insisted that she just put it into her bag and open it up later on, she gave up asking.
It wasn't anything bad, but you didn't want it to seem like you'd only got her the gist you did just to make yourself seem better in front of others. Instead, you wanted it to be strictly between you and Zoe.
A real silver charm bracelet with Cartier diamonds sat in the velvet box, with five charms hanging from the chain. One representing Nala, a little pug. One representing YouTube, a camera. Another representing your friendship, that one being a single rose. The last two were just as special, and all in all you were proud of the present you'd spent so much time thinking about over the previous few months.
Joe knew that you'd bought her it, of course, and had reassured you so many times that he knew she'd love it, which had calmed your nerves slightly. But when Zoe stood up to go to the bathroom and returned a few minutes later and sat down next to you with a smile, she waited until nobody was looking before leaning in and giving you a quick hug and whispering in your ear. "Thank you so much, (Y/N). I honestly love it."
You couldn't seem to stop smiling, and neither could she, and when you glanced over at Joe, he simply winked at you as if to say 'I told you so' before going back to eating his food and having a conversation with Alfie.
When the meal was over and done with, you all decided to walk down to the beach; which, seeing as by that point everyone was at least a little tipsy, probably wasn't the best of ideas. But nonetheless, when you arrived and almost immediately tripped face first into the pebbles only to be caught by Joe who couldn't help but laugh at your expense along with the rest of the group, you couldn't help but laugh.
You spent a relatively respectable amount of time on the beach, shoving each other towards the water and popping into what felt like at least twenty different vlogs.
The walk back to the hotel you and Joe spent walking behind the others, or well, Joe did anyways. You'd bribed him into giving you a piggy back, and so now you had your legs wrapped around his waist and your chin resting on his shoulder as you breathed softly against his jaw.
"Hey Joe?" You hum, and he turns his head to look you in the eyes curiously. "I love you."
"I love you too, pretty." He grins, and you lean around to kiss him quickly before squeaking and tightening your grip on him as he sped up to catch up with the others. "Hey guys, wait up! My little legs are carrying another pair of little legs now too!"

10 Best Entry Level DSLR Cameras in 2020
Taking your first step into the world of photography is always a challenge. Complicated technical terms, dozens of brands offering similar products, and rules to remember while shooting can be difficult to navigate when you are starting out. However, once you get a hold of a DSLR camera, you’ll learn that the learning curve is steeper than expected. But what is the best entry-level DSLR camera?
For years Nikon and Canon have been the most widely known brands on the market. Recently the DSLR landscape seems to have become more diverse, with players such as Sony or Pentax offering cameras that are both powerful and affordable. When looking to buy an entry-level DSLR camera you should, of course, consider its price, but also what you plan to do with it and where you plan to take it.
While my journey in photography began a decade ago with tiny 6-megapixel Nikon D40, over the years I’ve tested a variety of DSLR cameras designed for both beginners and professionals. The technology has certainly improved. Even the cheaper cameras today can produce high-resolution images worth framing and that makes deciding which model to buy even more difficult.
In this article, we will explore the best DSLRs currently available on the market, with models mean to suit every budget and type of photography. Whether you are interested in a lightweight camera to take on your travels or a video-friendly model to step up your vlogging game, there is something for you.

So, which is the best entry-level DSLR camera?
When starting your journey in the world of photography you may be confused by all the products and specifications that should be understood. The best entry-level DSLR cameras provide you with everything you need to shoot high-quality pictures without breaking the bank. If you don’t know what type of photography you want to focus on, look for an all-rounder DSLR you can experiment with. There will always be time for specialized upgrades later. Here are some things to keep in mind before buying your first DSLR camera.
Should I buy a bundled offer?
What you’ll often find when shopping for cameras on sites like Amazon or eBay, are package offers that add a set of accessories to the camera body. While they may seem attractive at first glance, the additional gear included is usually not worth the extra price.
In many of these package deals, you’ll find SD cards, cleaning kits, and filters that can seem useful if you are starting out, but are usually not quality products. The best idea is to start with a camera body and a multipurpose zoom lens or two, adding additional gear over time.
How much resolution do I need?
When it comes to resolution, it’s hard to go wrong these days. All modern DSLR cameras offer enough resolution for detail-rich pictures to be captured. High resolution obviously provides some advantages, but anything above 10 megapixels will not be essential to a beginner. Considering that most entry-level DSLRs come with a resolution of about 20 megapixels, you shouldn’t overthink this.
If your goal is to share your pictures digitally, you will be fine with pretty much any camera on this list, unless you need to crop big parts of your photos during the editing stage. If you are planning to print your images in a large format, however, those extra megapixels will come in handy.
What about sensor size?
As you’ve probably noticed, all the cameras on this list employ an APS-C sensor. But what does this mean? APS-C sensors have a size of 23.6 x 15.6 millimeters, which is smaller than 36 x 24-millimeter sensors found on professional full-frame cameras. The size of the sensor determines how much light is needed to create an image. Therefore, larger sensors can absorb more light and produce higher quality images. Full-frame sensors offer a much higher resolution, but they obviously come at a price.
A crop sensor is usually more than enough for beginners and hobbyists. There is only one thing you should keep in mind when using a DSLR with an APS-C sensor, the crop factor. Because of the smaller size, an APS-C sensor crops the image by about 1.5 times compared to a full-frame sensor. In simple terms, this means that mounting a 35mm lens on your crop-sensor camera will actually give you a 50mm view. The crop factor of APS-C is something one gets quickly used to and can come in handy when shooting distant subjects with a telephoto lens, as it increases, even more, their focal length.
Should I get the kit lens?
The kit lens that comes with most entry-level DSLR camera bodies is usually a good starting point to learn how to photograph. Kit lenses are not the best in terms of low light performance or build, but they are versatile enough to allow you to experiment with different subjects.
When possible, opt for a kit lens with an integrated image stabilization (IS) system. This feature helps reduce the risk of blur appearing in your images, compensating for the small vibrations that occur when shooting handheld. Kit lenses with IS are usually not much more expensive than non-stabilized lenses, so it’s definitely worth investing in one if the option is available.
If you choose not to get the kit lens, there are many budget options available depending on what type of photography you want to focus on. Fixed lenses like a 50mm f1.8 produce great images (but lack in versatility). Third-party manufacturers such as Sigma or Tamron offer quality gear for a lower price than the original lenses, covering more or less all focal lengths.
Should I buy a DSLR or a mirrorless?
With the growth in popularity of mirrorless cameras, many experts have declared the “death of DSLRs.” While it is true that mirrorless cameras provide similar image quality in a much smaller package, DSLRs are still going strong and are unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
DSLR cameras provide you with a solid and durable piece of equipment. They tend to perform better in low light and have a longer battery life. Brands like Canon and Nikon offer a vast catalog of lenses, in case you decide to upgrade in the future.
Interchangeable lenses
Smartphone and point-and-shoot cameras may have reached impressive results in terms of image quality, but the ability to switch between lenses gives a huge advantage to DSLR cameras.
When you buy a DSLR you are able to specialize in a certain type of photography by mounting lenses designed for that purpose. Big brands have dozens of lenses you can choose from. Whether your focus is architecture, portraits, wildlife or landscapes, there is something there for you.
Lenses are obviously an investment, with some products costing more than the camera itself. However, shooting with the right glass will make an incredible difference. If you want to make your images stand out, consider what lenses you will need to take your photography to the next level.
In conclusion, what entry-level DSLR camera should I buy?
All modern entry-level DSLR cameras provide you with the essential features to shoot great images. Clearly, some models are better than others, but even if you are tight on budget, you can find a camera that will produce excellent results.
While it’s not easy to navigate through brand names, specifications, and features, with this article we hope to have cleared some confusion. Buying the first DSLR is always a big step. By choosing one of the models reviewed above, we are sure you won’t have any regrets.

How to use YouTube marketing for your business
Many companies in Hong Kong use Google Adwords, Facebook ads to promote their companies, or increase sales. But have you ever thought that in the age when everyone loves to watch movies today, KOL can make a comeback at home every day, and a short film of a well-known KOL can be obtained in just a few days. You should know about 100,000 or even millions of views – Youtube is your next marketing channel that you need to pay attention to and even use. Youtube can get you to reach millions of users. However, Youtube looks much more on weekdays, but using Youtube for Marketing believes that no one knows so many people. To do Youtube Marketing, you need to focus your YouTube Marketing strategy on specific goals, diversify your content, and optimize for YouTube’s Search Engine, which helps your company build effective and engaging. Film work case.
Are you looking for new ways to promote your business and stand out from the crowd?
As long as you use the right marketing strategy, using YouTube to promote your company has a huge potential.
In this article, we’ll show you how to start YouTube Marketing for your company and explain how to set up a strategy.
Why is YouTube a potential marketing tool?
YouTube is popular with audiences of all ages and the world:
YouTube has more than 1 billion users, about one-third of all Internet users, and has more than 1 billion hours of watch per day – more than Netflix and Facebook.
Youtube covers 88 countries and regions and is available in 76 different languages.
In the United States, Youtube covers more than 18 to 34 years of age, more than any TV network.
To successfully attract a huge user of YouTube, you need a comprehensive strategy that includes:
Produce consistent and quality content
Communicate with subscribers and reviewers
Optimize your channels and videos for the YouTube search engine
Set the KPI (Key Performance Indicator) to determine if you have succeeded
Starting with a strategy
First, what do you want from YouTube Marketing? Because the goals you set will affect the strategy you have developed.
The general goal of everyone is:
Increase brand awareness by acquiring new subscribers
Increase website traffic
Increase user engagement
The goal needs to be clearly defined. Use SMART to set your goals and ensure that each goal is: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to make your broad goals more practical. For example, to measure the goal of “improve brand awareness,” your KPI can be set to “10% increase channel subscribers within 30 days.
Using a specific KPI helps assess your return on investment (ROI) and provides an accurate report of all your resource expenditures.
How to decide which type of movie to create
Deciding which movie to make depends on your creative resources, the quality and budget of the film.
Invest in equipment that produces high-quality sound and movies. However, simple mobile phone lenses can already satisfy different situations, especially single vlogs or one-on-one interviews.
The good news is that you don’t have to spend too much money on making YouTube videos. Having said that, if the sound of your film or the quality of the film is not good, they will have difficulty competing with other films.
Common examples of Youtube Marketing include:
Interview with KOL in your industry. These videos can appeal to users who are familiar with your company or interested in your guests. And KOL can also help you improve the company’s image.
The video series performed very well on YouTube. Users generally know what videos they want to watch, and then they enter relevant keywords in Youtube to search. For example, Evan Carmichael has several interesting film series, one of which is the “Top 10 Rules For Success” series, with a different success in each episode.
Series: If you come up with a great video idea, use it as the basis for the film series, just like the “Top 10 Rules For Success” series above.
How-To Videos: These videos are valuable to your audience and your company – especially in the movie to indicate how your company can solve their problems for customers.
Products and instructional videos: Show the audience what your products can do and how they can help your customers. For example, MailChimp shows users how to use Mailchimp to create a Facebook campaign through a short video.
Animated Movies: Consider adding multiple movie types to your strategy. Diversity helps increase the appeal of customers and keep them engaged.
Remember to plan your video content in advance and set up Deadline to make sure you’re ready for what you need and post different types of videos.
You can consider using YouTube’s management tools.
Like other social platforms like Facebook and Twitter, YouTube is thriving on user interaction. In order to drive customer interaction, you also need to actively engage users to interact with you and respond to user comments/messages.
As online channels become more and more, a large number of user comments or reviews will become a challenge for the company. If you don’t have some management tools, it may take a few hours for you to reply to all comments/messages.
Surprisingly, there aren’t many management tools for YouTube. One of them is Agorapulse, which is available for four major social media platforms – including YouTube.
Tips for using the YouTube management tool:
Review the user’s message for your video and decide when and how to post the response. For negative comments, it is best to reply as soon as possible.
Respond to users as a team: Assign questions based on the areas of expertise of different people in your company.
Monitor your brand name on YouTube so that you never miss a user’s comment on your company in other videos.
Set some standard answers in advance to quickly respond to frequent and similar comments.
Optimize your videos for better SEO
If you want to get good marketing results through YouTube, you need to optimize your YouTube channel and content. By optimizing your videos for the right keywords, your target audience is more likely to see your videos.
The more people can see your videos, the better the video views, engagements, and subscribers.
Here are a few important factors that determine your ranking in YouTube search:
Keyword: Find out which keywords (Keyword) your target users will type to find your videos, and then add those Keywords to your videos. Put the Keyword in the movie description, and your Keyword should be similar or identical to the movie title. You can even use YouTube’s search to find Keyword ideas and provide you with video ideas.
Tags for channels and personal videos. Add as many relevant tags as possible. Tools such as TubeBuddy can help you find the right label. .
Interactions and subscribers: YouTube will measure the quality of your videos by taking into account the user’s participation in your videos and the number of subscribers. In addition to the number of comments and Likes, you will become your number of subscribers as soon as the user watches your video, which will also increase your ranking.
Great potential for YouTube Marketing
If used properly, YouTube will have a positive impact on you. Keep in mind these tips and tricks for using YouTube as an effective marketing channel.
Set goals and then develop strategies around them.
Continue to release new videos and explore a variety of content to expand the appeal of your channel.
It is important to interact with the user. Please respond to all comments and actively interact with the user.
Optimize your videos for YouTube search engines to increase the reach of your videos and let more people see your videos.

Digital Marketing Trends to Watch in 2019
As a digital marketing consultant and instructor of digital and social marketing at Northwestern, I try to maintain a large network of marketing, business and technology experts. Each year, I ask them to identify key trends you need to focus on. Here is there 2019 set of predictions and trends to watch:
AI / Chat Bots / Machine Learning Systems - No area has exploded in the global marketplace as much as AI-based systems. Today, they are being used for customer service systems and other consumer-facing situations. For processes which require an exchange of information to find the ideal solution, they are perfect and, because they are 24x7 systems, they are ready when your consumer needs assistance. A Garter study found that 89% of competition will revolve around the customer experience. As we move into 2019, these types of learning systems are proving more cost effective and more capable of providing a consistent, deep customer experience. They are quickly maturing so you need to keep up with these technologies. Here is an interesting blog post from Laduram Vishnoi - CEO of Acquire.io - on 6 use cases for AI in business today.
Increased Focus on Privacy and Privacy Legislation - The EU passed strong privacy legislation called the GDPR [General Data Protection Regulation]. This legislation created strong privacy rights for individuals. In 2018, this legislation is beginning to be tested in courts by France. Their regulators have filed lawsuits in their country regarding individual privacy rights versus ad server systems. Currently, they are taking on a small ad server business in France but, if successful, it will threaten the ad revenue business models for companies like Facebook. A November 2018 article from Tech Crunch shows the potential impact of the French Privacy Ruling. Privacy is definitely a topic marketers and business entrepreneurs should monitor in 2019.
Customer Reviews are Critical to Your Prosperity - In a study published in March of 2018, Business Wire - a Berkshire Hathaway company - found 97% of all consumers use peer reviews and recommendations to make their purchase decisions. This is supported by a large number of research studies. Today, companies need to do 3 things. First, they need to offer reviews and rating systems for their customers to use. Second, you need to note the reviews and fix any problems they are discussing. It shows you are responsive. Third, you need to build "Help" systems designed to answer the most frequently asked questions your new customers have. This is a key topic in my new book - Prosper - which will be published soon. People want you to help them in their purchase journey and not sell them. As this September, 2018 study from Forbes shows, your new customers need support to get the most out of your products and services, your prospects need help to determine the best way to address their problems and issues, and you need to have your customers help you prove the value of your company with reviews and ratings.
Redefining the Consumer Journey - In the past, sales and marketing controlled the consumer journey. We decided the what, why, when and where of the marketing process for our consumers and prospects. In the world prior to the web, our marketing world consisted of owned media - content we created - and paid media - places where we could advertise our company. With online, we now have earned media - followers, influencers, and other media we generate from social sites. As a result, the consumer journey is radically changing. A Northwestern University Spiegel Research Initiative study found the consumer journey has changed with the addition of earned media. McKinsey Consultants redesigned the consumer journey to reflect how people are making product purchase decisions differently. In 2019, you need to think about the different ways consumers and prospects are finding your company and the different types of media they are using to define their purchase decisions. It is changing quickly and you need to keep up.
Being Truly Multimedia - My most recent addition to my course on Digital Marketing was the introduction of podcasting and video blogging [vlogging]. Traditionally, companies and colleges have treated marketing content as strictly text and graphics based. While we "talked" multimedia, we taught people how to write and then publish their written material. In its 2018 review of video, HubSpot found that 81% of businesses use video and the number is rising and in a November 2018 survey, a Brightcove study found that 76% of consumers and 85% of Millennials used videos to make purchase decisions. From "unboxing" videos to vlogs to help videos, we need to think multimedia - for real - in 2019. Same for podcasting. They all have a role in your media mix.
Building an Integrated Marketing Program - For the last 2 years, I have been investigating digital strategies which integrate traditional marketing and the new digital touchpoints into a single, holistic marketing plan. In my new book - Prosper - I have found Google's YouTube strategy called "Hero Hub and Help" to be the core which unites all sales and marketing program into a single, cohesive strategy. Here is a Snippet video overview of the strategy and here is a video on how I use "Hero Hub and Help" content with a couple other strategies to develop integrated marketing programs for my clients. Today, you need to think OmniChannel and present an integrated, coordinated set of consumer touchpoints to move people from prospects to customers to satisfied customers...and this trend will continue to strengthen in 2019.
New Digital Content Model balances curated & created content - Content curation is one of the most misunderstood terms in marketing. It isn't just creating content but is focused on searching and sifting through content and finding the best content for your high value markets. It is curation not creation or - better yet - a combination of both that attracts followers to your sites. They want to follow influencers who are dedicated to helping them address their needs and aspirations. In 2019, you need to focus on building your influencer network and find great written, audio, and video content and then amplify it to your follower base. Each time you do it, you will grow your following and attract the audience which will eventually purchase your products and services. Here is a short video on the new digital content model.
Helping is the New Selling - For fun, go to YouTube and search for unboxing videos. You will find thousands. In fact, 1 in 5 consumers has watched an unboxing video. This trend isn't about unboxing but the fact your consumers want to build a relationship with your company and that is far beyond sales copy. They now want to build relationships with companies who can help them achieve their goals. In 2019, more and more resources will focus on creating an ongoing dialog with consumers [called Hub content]. This is creating blogs, vlogs, eBooks, podcasts, and other content on the topics of interest to your target market. Not just what you sell but what they want and need. In addition, it is the creation of help materials to assure they get the most out of their purchases. Today, success involves learning the mission your consumers are on and what they seek to help them achieve their goals. It is learning the influencers they seek and the topics they "consume" and using those insights to build your marketing strategies.
Build your Influencer Base - In 2016, Thomas Friedman gave a World of Watson talk about the 3 accelerations which are impacting business today. His theme was that technology was moving so quickly that it is now impossible for us to keep up with every trend. What this means is that you need a source of expertise, on the trends you think will impact your business, to keep you on track. It means you need to develop your influencer base to find out the trends which will benefit you in 2019. For next year, I would advise you to write down the topics that will impact your business and then use these tools to find the top influencers - both companies and individuals - and follow them. They will keep you current on any technology, business or marketing topics you find important. You can find the tools in this video.
Get Ready for the Gen Z markets - Gen Z will become a larger market in 2019 surpassing the Millennials. Not only are they bigger but they engage with online and social technologies in a very different way. To succeed in 2019, you need to better understand Gen Z and the impacts they will have on the way you need to position your brand and your social and web assets. To learn more, here is a good study from Edleman Digital. It is their free 2019 report on digital trends with the first trend being the Gen Z market. Click on download to get the free report.
Those are my top 10 trends for 2019. Let me know what you think and let me know if I missed any. Enjoy!

Panasonic announces Lumix DC-GH5S, an even more video-focused GH5
Panasonic has unveiled the Lumix DC-GH5S, an even more video-centric variant of the company's GH5 hybrid stills/video camera. Aside from some minor cosmetic differences the two cameras are identical, however the GH5S has been designed to maximize low-light sensitivity and provides a deep feature set tailored to video shooters' needs.
The GH5S uses a slightly larger, but lower resolution 12.5MP sensor whose 'multi-aspect' design offers a series of ~10.2MP crops with the same angle of view. It gains the ability to shoot the wider-angle DCI 4K format at up to 60p, whereas the GH5 tops out at 24p. Both cameras can shoot UHD 4K at up to 60p.
The sensor features a "dual gain" design that Panasonic calls "Dual Native ISO." This uses two separate sensor read-out circuits – one that maximizes dynamic range at lower sensitivities, and one that prioritizes noise reduction at a dynamic range cost. Unusually, Panasonic lets you limit its camera to one of these modes.
youtube
Despite the outward similarities, the GH5S' list of changes compared to the GH5 is a long one. Image stabilization has been removed to avoid unwanted interactions between a floating sensor and the dollies and gimbals pro shooters tend to favor. VLog-L, offered as an paid upgrade on the GH5, is included as standard. Autofocus is rated down to –5 EV compared to –4EV in the GH5.
The list of differences also includes up to 240fps framerate in 1080p "Variable Frame Rate" mode, a 120fps refresh rate in the electronic viewfinder, 14-bit Raw stills shooting, time code in/out functionality, and LUT-corrected display in playback as well as capture. For a detailed look at the GH5S' additional capabilities, head to our first impressions review.
The Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5S will be available February 2nd for $2499 body-only.
Panasonic Announces the Ultimate Hybrid DSLM with a newly developed 10.2MP High Sensitivity MOS sensor
Introducing the LUMIX GH5S: Exceptional Mirrorless Videography and Photography, designed and developed for professional filmmakers
Introducing a newly developed 10.2MP High Sensitivity MOS sensor for enhanced image quality in low light: Allowing up to 51,200 ISO recording without extended ISO.
Time Code IN/OUT for easy synchronization of multiple cameras and Dual Native ISO, providing low range (400) and high range (2,500) ISO environments.
True “Multi-Aspect Ratio” Function in Both Photo and Video
Las Vegas, NV (January 8, 2018) - Panasonic is proud to introduce the new hybrid Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera LUMIX GH5S with expanded video recording capability and enhanced image quality. Designed and developed for professional filmmakers, the LUMIX GH5S achieves highest-ever image sensitivity and video image quality in the history of LUMIX cameras, especially in low-light situations.
Packed with big features to satisfy demanding photographers and videographers alike The new 10.2-megapixel Digital MOS Sensor with Dual Native ISO Technology and Venus Engine 10 faithfully reproduce even dark parts of the image, allowing high ISO capture when the use of supplemental lighting may not be possible. This sensor is a multi-aspect type with a sufficient margin for realizing the same angle of view in 4:3,17:9,16:9 and 3:2 aspect ratios. The sensor also enables photo shooting in 14-bit RAW format, providing higher flexibility for professional RAW stills development workflows. When shooting in dark environments, videographers can now focus on filming that perfect shot as they no longer need to worry about noise which often results from having to use higher ISOs. The Dual Native ISO Technology suppresses noise to produce cleaner footage when taken in all light. Both videographers and photographers can now enjoy the same diagonal field of view across all aspect ratios with the True “Multi-Aspect Ratio” Function. This feature means you can easily swap between difference aspect ratios giving you the accuracy you want from your lenses, and making the process easier while producing and editing in post-production. The LUMIX GH5S is compatible with Time Code IN and OUT, like the professional camcorders, which is easy to set using the flash sync terminal and bundled conversion cable for a standard BNC terminal. This is especially important for “lip synchronization” when using multiple cameras. The LUMIX GH5S can be used as Time Code generator for other GH5S cameras and professional camcorders. The Time Code IN/OUT functionality makes a production teams job pain-free as it provides synchronization for both video and audio devices used on multi-cam productions.
The LUMIX GH5 achieved 4KUHD 60p video recording for the first time as a digital mirrorless camera in 2017.2 The new LUMIX GH5S establishes a new milestone by realizing the world’s first 4K 60p video recording in Cinema 4K (4096x2160), 3 capable of internal 4:2:2 10-bit video recording up to Cinema 4K30p and internal 4:2:0 8-bit Cinema 4K60p. subsampling commonly used for film production, for even more faithful color reproduction.4 The LUMIX GH5S also records 4:2:2 10-bit 400-Mbps All-Intra in 4K 30p/25p/24p and 200- Mbps All-Intra in Full-HD.
Continuing the LUMIX GH tradition, there is no time limit for both Full-HD and 4K video recording. The LUMIX GH5S complies with 4K HDR video with Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) mode in Photo Style. A low-bit-rate recording mode, 4K HEVC for HLG, is available. This enables playback on AV equipment compatible with the HLG Display format, such as Panasonic 4K HDR TVs.
The VFR (Variable Frame Rate) function lets users record overcranked (time-lapse) and undercranked (slo-mo) video in C4K/4K (60 fps, maximum 2.5x slower) and FHD (240 fps, maximum 10x slower). A V-LogL and Rec.709 LUT (Look Up Table) are pre-installed in the camera, so users can play videos recorded in V-LogL without having to separately purchase a Software Upgrade Key. Four additional LUTs can be installed using the Panasonic Varicam (.VLT) file format.
DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology and ultra-high-speed digital signal processing achieve fast auto focusing of approximately 0.07 sec 6 with 12 fps (AFS) / 8 fps (AFC) in 12- bit RAW and 10 (AFS) / 7 (AFC) fps in 14-bit RAW high-speed burst shooting. In addition to a total of 225 focus areas, The options for Face/Eye Recognition, Tracking AF, 1-area AF and Pinpoint AF are available for precise focusing. The 4K PHOTO enables 60 fps high-speed capture in approximately 8-megapixel equivalent resolution.
Achieve outstanding footage in any environment, especially in low light As a camera that excels in shooting in low light, the LUMIX GH5S boasts -5EV luminance detection performance with Low Light AF thanks to the higher sensitivity and optimized tuning of the sensor. Live Boost is another practical feature that makes it possible to check the composition even in total darkness, by boosting the sensitivity just for Live View. The magnification ratio in MF assist is increased from conventional 10x to 20x, which is convenient especially for astronomical photography. An AF Point Scope function, first introduced in the Lumix G9 and Night mode are also integrated.
In order to make the GH5S tough enough to withstand even heavy field use, it is composed of a magnesium alloy full die-cast front, rear and top frame that is not only splashproof7 and dustproof but also freezeproof down to -10 degrees Celsius. The GH5S is equipped with a double SD Memory Card slot, compatible with the high-speed, high-capacity UHS-II and Video Speed Class 90. Users can flexibly choose the recording method from Relay Recording, Backup Recording or Allocation Recording. The HDMI Type A terminal is provided, along with the USB-C Gen1 interface.
Exceptional image capture without concern The GH5S has a large LVF (Live View Finder) with a stunningly high magnification ratio of approximately 1.52x/0.76x (35mm camera equivalent) providing smooth display at 120 fps. A high-precision, high-speed OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) display features 3,680K-dot resolution and 100% field of view. In addition to dual dials, an omni-directional joystick enables more intuitive and flexible operation.
The GH5S includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi® connectivity to offer a more flexible shooting experience and instant image sharing with easy operation. Compatibility with Bluetooth 4.2 (called BLE: Bluetooth Low Energy) enables constant connection with a smartphone/tablet with minimum power consumption. For Wi-Fi, 5 GHz (IEEE802.11ac)8 can be selected in addition to the conventional 2.4 GHz (IEEE 802.11b/g/n) for an even more secure and stable connection.
For extended battery life and a more stable hold, the new Battery Grip DMW-BGGH5 (sold separately) is available. The XLR Microphone Adaptor DMW-XLR1 (sold separately) allows high-res sound recording with an external XLR microphone.9
The Panasonic LUMIX GH5s will be available from end of February 2 and will retail for $2499 (body only).

Blog Post #1 – Deconstructing Conventional Gender Stereotypes
Does societies shape the media or does the media shape societies? It’s a real chicken or the egg conundrum. However, the more we investigate the more we realize that history is written by the victor. This means, the one or ones with the power has their values and ideals on various aspects of life, disseminated to become the acceptable iconic representation, of the kind of life the society should strive for. While the media provides important news and entertainment, the mainstream or commercial media is a business; and as such, the contents broadcasted, whether by TV, radio, newspaper or otherwise, will not disgruntle their sponsors or partners. Therefore, the media becomes censored and the contents aired are first reviewed and deem appropriate by the many ‘gatekeepers’ within the various media outlets. As a result of this censorship, we learn the recommended ideals of beauty, gender roles, as well as, power relations between men and women. With the examples of Keith, Shibbada Ramsey, a Jamaican actor and Melissa Arnette Elliott, aka Missy Elliott, an American rapper, dancer and record producer; we begin to see the gender dynamics of men and women shifting away from societal expectations. Shibbada is biologically male, however adapts the attributes and characteristics associated with a woman. On his vlog done through Facebook live, he speaks and jesters with feminine mannerisms, he wears long claw like finger nails and even implies, while addresses himself, as a female. (see Shibbada’s video about Marvin the Beast). We also see Missy Elliot, biologically female, portraying a masculine persona in her performances, as well as her dressing. Both persons and many like them, compromises the idealistic views on male and female gender characteristics and behaviors. As they continue to push these boundaries, the ‘natural order’ begins to break down and change into new ideas and beliefs.
Religion and religious beliefs contributes in shaping our society also. As Jamaicans consider Jamaica as a Christian country, many of our leaders and influential individuals also considers themselves, as God fearing Christians. One of the main ideas driven by Christianity and the mainstream media is the Nuclear Family structure. This particular type of family structure is still greatly preached and encouraged in 2017 Jamaica; anything else is condemned and frowned on. This is a very limited perception, as single mother families are pervasive in Jamaica especially in cases of teen pregnancies. In these situations, the boy/father returns to school and based on his parent’s decision, he may grow to have no involvement in the child’s life at all. The teen mother is then sent to a school that singles them out by their uniforms, and a level of shame and condemnation is thrust upon them as they traverse to and from school with the babies. The media, however rarely speaks on this matter, instead gender biases are formed and men are allowed, even expected and glorified for having multiple conquests and children with little to no consequences. It is called being a ‘Gallis’. Young boys and girls then grow into adults, with the perception that men are not held responsible for their actions and are allowed to continue the trend. While women are chastised for getting pregnant out of wedlock and reprimanded for having no dignity or self-value. An example of this is in our music, dancehall male artists encourage rough sex with women and having multiple partners, Shabba Ranks “Trailer Load”. However Tonya Stevens and Lady Saw challenges these male assertions by demonstrating raw female autonomy, with lyrics of giving a man ‘jacket’ and ridiculing a man’s ability to satisfy her, or lack thereof, “Little White Lies, Big Ninja Bike” and “Loser”, respectively. While society scorns at such a vulgar behavior, it is actually the self-actualization and the confidence of our women that the patriarchal society fears.
Gender representations and stereotypes portrayed by the mainstream media, are at the detriment of our boys and girls who will later become our men and women, therefore, reformation of our ideals and value systems are urgently needed. As stated in Whose Perspective, the media often emphasizes and reinforces the priorities and values of those who create the message, while ignoring or rejecting the realities of others (P 15). Most messages shared by the media are stereotypic gender roles for men and women. It’s been widely believed in past times that only men could and should become architects, engineers, soldiers, pilots and political leaders. While women were to remain in their nurturing and caring roles as mothers, house keepers, social workers and nurses. The media reinforces the idea of men in authority and power while women pick up the rare in supportive positions to men. These stereotypes reduces the possibilities for men and women and suggest limited life choices. However, it is only when a “female occupation”, such as nursing or cooking, becomes lucrative, that you find men filtering in. otherwise it would be considered demeaning to act in a feminine role. On the other hand, this is not the same with women filtering into male dominated occupations. Women were limited to the lower paying jobs, like security work or gas station attendant. Nevertheless, women are slowly making their way into the higher paying careers such as law, medicine, politics etc. As our country progresses into the future we will begin to see more changes, where men and women now strive to become who they wish to be, and reject societal norms portrayed by the media. We see more women embracing and controlling their sexuality and the selection of partner (s) on their terms. As well as, succeeding in what may be considered as male dominated careers. A few examples are Hon. Portia Simpson Millar, Jamaica’s first female Prime Minister for 5 years. Also, Ms. Paula Llewellyn C.D, Q.C. The director of Public Prosecutions in Jamaica. We can only expect these changes to further progress until we have done away completely, with the patriarchal structure on which societies are built.

1. How has covid affected you? It robbed me of few months’ worth of memories in my last year in college, my graduation, travel plans, employment prospects, a 22nd birthday with friends. Fortunately, other than a mutual friend, I personally don’t know anyone who has gotten the virus.
2. What is a comfort show of yours? Friends, without a doubt. If I need a pick me up I just look up a scene on YouTube and I’m bound to feel better in seconds.
3. Are you open about your past or do you not let anyone in? I’m pretty open about my past as long as people ask the right questions that would make me want to open up that can of worms lol. But I’m very secretive about the present and if I’m currently going through something, I tend to be selfish when it comes to opening up. I don’t like being completely vulnerable, and I leave those last few bits of vulnerability to only myself. I can’t even open up on Tumblr in certain instances; it’s just how I am.
4. Favourite fast food joint? Yellow Cab.
5. Do you think we were put on this earth for a reason? I don’t. I don’t put a lot of thought into this, either. It’s just not something I particularly care about.
6. What is something you have done this year you’re proud of? Finish my thesis. I used to think it was some colossal, nearly-impossible requirement and I never thought I was capable of creating my own. But I got through it and it was such an amazing feeling to see myself and Andrew wrap it up and write our acknowledgments at the very end.
7. Do u ever feel like surveys are usually the same questions? There are definitely questions that come up more often than others, but I’m never super bothered by them. I just try to answer them differently then move on.
8. What were you doing 10 years ago? I was 12, in sixth grade, friendless, suicidal, and was in the biggest mental health slump of my life thus far; so, not doing well.
9. Do you call out Karens when they’re harassing a cashier? I don’t call them out but when it’s my turn to be served, I make it a point to greet them and smile and give them the change, like I do with any cashier – except amplified this time around so they can feel better and not think that every customer is an asshole.
10. Animal crossing, yay or nay? Yay. I don’t play it but I’m certainly not gonna dampen people’s enjoyment by thumbing it down lol. It looks so cute and the challenges look wholesome; that game just can’t hurt anybody haha. But I guess it helps that my favorite characters to play on Mario Kart are Animal Crossing characters, so there’s that.
11. Why do you like to do surveys? It’s a safe space. And I’m very talkative in my head but not in real life, so surveys always serve as an outlet for my thoughts and feelings.
12. Did you ever have a MySpace? I did but I caught they very tail end of its popularity. By the time I joined people were already starting to flock to Facebook, so it wasn’t like I was ever able to do anything fun or worthwhile on Myspace. It was also never as popular in the Philippines too; we were into Friendster a lot more.
13. Do you think breaks are toxic in a relationship? I don’t think things like that work in absolutes. I’m sure breaks work for some, but for others they could also just create more distance and cause a couple to grow apart over time.
14. Do you have a YouTube channel? If no, would you create one? If yes what’s your content? I have one but it’s only so that I can support my favorite channels and subscribe to them, and so that YouTube can tailor my homepage to my interests. If I had to start posting videos, I’d prefer to take it easy and just post chill daily vlogs, nothing that tries too hard; and maybe take part in a taste test every once in a while because I enjoy watching those.
15. Are you a math person? Only up until advanced algebra or geometry. I’ll have to bow out if we have to get into trigonometry or calculus.
16. What’s the worse thing someone has said to you? I’ve been told I was a headache to deal with, heartless, unlovable, ungrateful, lacking a brain. All courtesy of my mom.
17. Have you ever befriended someone because you felt bad? Just once. In Grade 7 there was a new girl who was a bit of a loner, so Gab and I started talking to her so that she wouldn’t be alone during lunch. She didn’t really mix well with us and our dynamic though, so we slowly stopped hanging out with her. I felt bad, but I also didn’t want us to keep faking it with her because it would’ve been unfair to her – at least we tried. I was glad when she finally found her group, which didn’t take long.
18. Would you ever date someone online? I’m not open to it.
19. Have you been ghosted before? Would you ghost someone? I’m pretty sure what I did with Mike is the equivalent of ghosting...oops. I haven’t been ghosted.
20. When do you think things will be normal again? For a second this sounded really accurate about my life and I almost started crying :’’’’)))))) but now I realize you meant to ask about Covid lol. UHHH idk man. I remember back in March thinking this was gonna be over by April, and I had never been more wrong lmao. It’s so hard to tell.
21. Do you watch anime? No.
22. Biggest goal you wanna reach before 2020 is over? Be happy.
23. How old did/do you turn this year? 22.
24. Do you like tiktok? I don’t have the app downloaded but I’ll watch TikTok compilations on Facebook sometimes, and I’ve never had anything bad to say about them. I loooove the ones where people show what they do in their workplace like cleaning laptops, making ice cream cakes, doing pottery, etc., or showing projects that they’ve been working on like cleaning their swimming pool or renovating their bedroom. Those are the most satisfying to watch.
25. Do you ever miss vine? OMG yes. TikTok is entertaining, but the sense of humor that Vine birthed is on another fucking level. Only Vine could’ve made hurricane tortilla, a child, two bros chilling in a hot tub, and no head funny.
26. How are you doing, seriously? Today was one of the easier days. But I’m still hurting. It was just more manageable to breathe today.
27. Is there someone you want to talk to but you know you can’t? Yes.
28. Do you make jokes to cope with your problems? Sometimes, if I’ve already accepted the problem. It’s harder to make light of a situation that I’m still grappling with.
29. Have you ever had someone call you their best friend but you didn’t even consider them a close friend? I don’t think so.
30. Have you ever dealt with a pathological liar? Sure.
31. Long or short surveys? Medium-length to long.
32. If ur in school, are you doing it on zoom or in class? I’m not in school but I can definitely tell you that there aren’t any physical classes happening any time soon, at least in this country. It’s just not safe enough yet.
33. Would you ever have a pet rat? Nope.
34. Favourite memory with your best friend? I like laughing fits with Angela and spending hours at her house doing nothing. With Gabie, I always enjoy eating out with her.
35. Favourite type of content to watch on YouTube? I’ve mentioned them a lot on surveys recently, but it’s definitely Good Mythical Morning. I always turn to them when I’m going through depression so I’m really grateful that they have 1500+ episodes on their main channel and have a bunch of secondary channels with hundreds of videos in each as well. They have no idea how many lives they’ve saved. Other than that, I also like watching Korean reality shows, mukbangs that double as ASMR videos, soothing baking videos, and vlogs from local celebrities heheh.
36. Are you allergic to anything serious? No allergies for me.
37. Dream job? I don’t really have a dream title for now; I just want to eventually end up at the top of the ladder in my chosen career path which is PR.
38. Do you think dreams mean anything? No.
39. Fave clothing brand? Mango or Zara.
40. Do you miss anyone? Painfully.
