Quitting my job and just trying to be a full time writer keeps looking more and more appealing with each passing day. All I want to do is write anymore, but I've had such little time to do it.
Still, I've managed to pull together SEVEN Sentences on this fine Sunday.
Thanks to @artsyunderstudy @shrekgogurt @confused-bi-queer @aristocratic-otter @hushed-chorus @cutestkilla @thewholelemon and @rimeswithpurple for the tags this past week 🥰
TW for some graphic depiction of blood below. (The vibes were dark this week.)
Excerpt from Chapter 30 of May Their Blood Boil
Which means there’s nothing to muffle the sounds of chewing above us. Only chewing. I can’t hear [redacted]. The anchor creaks as the rain slows. Blood drips down from the edge of the cliff onto Erwin and I. It runs through our hair and down our faces and necks, getting in our eyes and mouths. I don’t know whose blood it is.
Hello's and Tags below the cut

"kill me right now then, i dare you." (Henry Creel)
Tumblr media
Henry couldn't help but smile at the other's words. "You are too eager." He spoke as he looked over the other. "Steve? Right?" He asked as he took a few steps towards him. "No, I'm not going to kill you. Not yet at least. I'll save you for last. Let you watch your friends all fall, one by one. And by the time I get to you." He smirked. "You'll actually beg me to kill you. So you'll be with them. You won't be alone and stuck here without them." He mused out with a slight nod of his head. "But nice try. Really, A+ for effort." He teased.

We all know the semi-canonical ‘all the Robins know to hide/duck inside of Batman’s cape, even as adults’ thing.
We also know that Danny ‘is LITERALLY a ghost’ Fenton sucks at remembering his own intangibility while ALSO forgetting to look ahead of him.
All I’m saying is, Danny Fenton (or Phantom, if you’d really like) would absolutely SLAM into Batman on accident while running on roof tops and Bruce ‘Brooding Instinct’ Wayne doesn’t even think twice about letting the kid hide and scanning around for danger before there’s a record scratch of ‘wait who tf is this?’ kicks in.

DP x DC Prompt #35
There's a Teen Titans, there's a Young Justice, but there's no Teen Superhero team that deals with things that Justice League: Dark does. And, well, John's a little tired.
Once teenager superheroes stop being teenager superheroes, and they seem to belong with JLD, they got tossed in the team. But, they aren't prepared for the team. They haven't dealt quite with threats that JLD handles all the time. They're not experienced enough.
So, John decides it's time to get a Young Justice: Dark team started. He's shit at leading, though, so he calls Phantom for a favor.

It was over.
It was too late.
Pariah Dark stood over the downed knights of the King’s order. Their cores shattered. Their bodies fading. Allies. Friends. Loved ones who had given their afterlives to protect the person they knew would keep everyone else in the Infinite Realms safe. King Phantom was on the ground at the old Ghost King’s feet, trying to get up but was being pushed back down by Pariah’s heel.
Damian was downed across the hall. His body was covered in wounds trying to defend against the hostile takeover that had suddenly been sprung upon them. He struggled to lift himself onto his elbows. Growling at himself in disgust. There was no way that he could fail here. Damian was not about to lose the only person he could truly call a friend right before his eyes. He managed to get up to his knees when his arms gave out and he fell back down to the stone floor with a curse. This couldn’t be happening. He wouldn’t allow it!
“Finally. At long last, I will take back my rightful place as king.” Pariah smirked darkly. He pressed hard on Phantom’s chest causing him to scream in agony from his previous injuries.
“Do you really think that if you do this that you will be reinstated?” The white-haired teen snarled venomously. “You’ve committed several war crimes! Shattering cores! Causing ghosts to fade! Even if you take me out now, the Infinite Realms will never accept you as its king!” Danny cried out again as Pariah dug his heel further into the boy’s chest. Right into his core.
“The king is picked by a trial of combat. The Realms doesn’t have a choice in the matter.” Pariah kicked the halfa hard and sent him sprawling several feet away. “I am the true king… and I will have my crown back.” He raised his hand, readying a blast to end the teen’s life.
“I WILL NOT LET YOU DO THIS!”
The room was lit up in a brilliant flash of light as Pariah sent a powerful ectoblast at Danny. One that never hit. Fright Knight jumped between his former king and his present king. Shoving Phantom out of the way as the blast pierced straight through his obsidian armor. The Spirit of Halloween stumbled back a few steps clutching his chest as an eerie liquid green began to pool out from the hole. Damian and Danny watched horrified as the Knight dropped his precious sword with a clatter and fell to his knees. His form was no longer solid. It spasmed and jittered like a computer glitch.
Pariah stood over him indifferently. “Old ally, why did you do that? If you had allowed it to hit then you would have been my knight once more.”
Fright Knight raised his head in defiance. Ectoplasm bleeding between his fingers. “You are no longer my king.” His form was stuttering terribly now.
“Shame. You were my favorite knight. Oh well,” Pariah raised his hand again and pointed it directly at the spot where he had struck Fright Knight before. “If that is what you think, then you are useless to me.” Before Damian and Danny could get up, Pariah fired another blast and they heard the sound of Fright’s core shattering from the impact.
“NO!” They screamed in unison tears streaming down their faces as the light faded and Fright Knight’s form began to fade just like the others. Damian couldn’t believe what he had just seen. One of the most powerful people he had ever known was taken down so easily. Too easily. One that he trained with. One that he respected. Gone. And soon there would be nothing left of him that would remain. Danny wasn’t doing much better. He was staring at his first knight in disbelief. His mind refused to acknowledge that his friend was completely gone. No rebirth. No moving on. He was completely gone and nothing could bring him back.
Pariah turned his attention back to the boy king who was still in shock at what he just witnessed. He stepped forward so that his figure loomed over the small teen. “Now it is your turn.” The former king raised his hand and pointed it right at Phantom.
No. This couldn’t happen. Damian had just lost a mentor that he loved dearly, he was not about to lose his closest friend at the same time. Adrenaline coursed through his veins, pushing back the pain that wracked his injured body so that he was able to stand up. Damian scanned the room for a weapon until they fell onto the sword that Fright Knight had dropped when he was felled. He didn’t even think. Damian charged, grabbing the sword as he passed it, and thrust it deep into Pariah’s back where his core should be.
His strike was true. The sound of a core shattering echoed throughout the massive throne room as Damian pulled the sword back out and used it to keep himself upright. Smiling in satisfaction when Pariah stumbled away from Danny and himself clutching at the new hole in his chest. “You… you… you can’t do that.”
Damian pushed himself upright to follow after the ex-king’s retreating steps. “Looks like I already did.”  It had been a lucky guess that the Soul Shredder had actually lived up to its name. It’s main power was to break someone by having them experience their worst fear… but if it strikes a core directly it will do the same thing. He brandished Fright Knight’s sword in Pariah’s direction standing tall. Inky blackness began to leak out of the hilt of the sword and up Damian’s arm. It slowly stretched across his entire body and then molded itself into a beautiful set of black armor. Instead of a helmet, he had a hood and a mask that covered the lower half of his face like his assassin uniform once did. “You have committed the grievous acts of murdering countless ghosts in your want of conquest. This ends now.”
“But as a ghost, you have broken your own sacred law!” Pariah fell to his knees just as Damian’s mentor had done moments prior. His form already beginning to fade.
“Good thing I’m not a ghost then,” Damian smirked menacingly as Danny moved to float next to him. Righteous anger and grief contorted the halfa’s face into one of pure rage.
“For your crimes the Realms has sentenced you to an Ending. You will now cease to exist. Just like you have done for so many others.” Danny pulled himself up to his full height, which wasn’t much taller than Damian. “A fitting end for a horrible bloodthirsty tyrant like yourself.”
“No! No! This was not how this was supposed to go!” Pariah clutched desperately at his chest to keep the ectoplasm from leaking out but the damage was done. He was practically translucent. “I am supposed to be king! I AM THE KING!”
Damian stepped forward with the sword raised. “Not anymore.” He swung down and the Soul Shredder struck the only thing that was still solid, Pariah’s core. What was once shattered before was now dust. Pariah faded out of existence right in front of them with only his armor left behind.
It was over.
They had won.
At what cost?
Danny fell back to the floor panting heavily from the many wounds that were slowly stitching together even with his accelerated healing. Damian remained standing but just as winded. He dropped the sword and looked to the ceiling as the adrenaline began to wear off. The two stayed like that for a long time. Neither moving nor wanting to accept the fact of the horrible things that had happened. It was Danny who broke out of his shock first. Fresh tears streaming down his face as he rolled onto his back. “He’s gone.”
“I know…” Damian continued to look at the ceiling. His own tears threatened to fall and he fought them back. “It would be how he wanted to go. Protecting the king he swore his sword too.”
“If only I had been a little stronger…”
“Stop that.” Damian growled at Danny, finally tearing his eyes away to look at his friend. “No one could have predicted that he would break such a sacred oath. He Ended so many ghosts, our friends, your people, all for his delusional right for the throne. You could have easily had handled him if he had solely went after you but he didn’t. Pariah was a coward and used your people against you because he knew that it would hurt you the most. So you spread yourself thin trying to protect everyone and that was when he struck. You are plenty strong if he had taken you on directly. He would not have come so close to winning otherwise.”
Danny stared at Damian. His eyes lost to the grief of losing so many so fast. He reached up and gently pulled Damian down to sit next to him when he noticed that the other boy’s legs were shaking from exhaustion. “Yeah… you’re right. You always are.” Danny pulled himself up to rest against Damian’s side and laid his head on his friend’s shoulder. The two remained like that for a long time. Basking in their grief as they watched the rest of the ghosts who’s cores were shattered fade. A silent memorial for all who had given up everything to ensure that a good king remained on the throne.
After a while, Danny used the little bit of energy he gained back to carry Damian and himself back to his room where they both sprawled out across his massive bed. It was quiet as they stayed within their own minds processing everything. “So… what do you think this means?” Damian raised his hand to look at the black armor that now covered it. Symbolic because it looked similar to Fright Knight’s but different because it looked molded to fit his preferences.
King Phantom was quiet for a few moments longer before turning his head to look at his friend, slowly taking in the details of the armor. “I think… the Soul Shredder has recognized you as the new Fright Knight. You picked up the sword and slayed the man who killed it’s master. I think it chose wisely.”
Damian held the sword with glowing green fire reverently. Its raw power was so powerful that it was practically suffocating him under its pressure. The sword looked like it should have been too heavy for him to lift because the thing was taller than him by at least a foot. He took a couple of practice swings surprised how it already felt like an extension of his arm rather than a nuisance. It was amazing. The sword felt like it was made for him. Never before had a weapon had enthralled him so. He swallowed back the sorrow that threatened to come out at how he had earned this right. The flames of the sword grew in response and Damian gave a curt nod.
He stood up and hopped off the bed with Danny sitting up to see what he was doing. Damian knelt before his best friend and held his sword up toward the Ghost King. “I, Damian Wayne, offer my sword as the new Fright Knight to Daniel Fenton, King of the Infinite Realms. By this oath, I swear to protect the Realms and it’s king for both my living and after lives.”
Danny sat shocked for a moment before a regal air began to fill the room. He picked up the sword from Damian’s hands and gently tapped both of his shoulders with it, “As the High King of the Infinite Realms, I hear by accept your oath and appoint you as the new Fright Knight. May you honor your predecessors by remaining upright and loyal to your liege.”
Damian lifted hit head with a look of determination. “I will not fail, my king.”
That was a promise.
