In honor of me having so much video game music downloaded on my phone that I ran out of storage and had to buy a new phone. My favorite track from each video game OST I have!
Bastion: Brusher Patrol (Such a bizarre clash of styles, I can't help but love this one. Shout-out to the part that sounds like Darren quietly scatting in the background.) (Also special shout-out to Build That Wall, probably my favorite vocal track in any Supergiant game)
Celeste: Scattered and Lost (I am such a normie for this choice but face it this track absolutely slaps.)
Chicory: A Colorful Tale: Song of the Wielders (I love how this song has actual lyrics but I still prefer to sing along with the Simlish version that Pizza and Chicory sing.)
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood: Illusion (First of all I love how every character in this game has their own theme I go feral for that kind of thing. Kurielle is probably one of the characters who stood out to me the least but by god is her theme gorgeous. I love the vocals and how a later track includes a sneaky reprise.)
Cuphead: Dramatic Fanatic (Tap dancing :D)
There are literally thirty of these so I'm doing a read more
Death's Door: The Grey Crow (A heartbreaking boss fight scored with the appropriate amount of anguish)
Deltarune: Cyber Battle (This melody is so underrated and ya know what, so are the characters associated with it. Sweet Cap'n Cakes forever.)
Elsinore: Donne, The Boat Boy (I love this song because it's associated with Lady Guildenstern, aka the best character in gaming full stop, but it's also just a fun little sea shanty that I think they made up for this game so I love that. Also has a lyrical version.)
Evergate: Police (Okay so the level with the police drones is one of the more frustrating ones in the game but the music is hauntingly beautiful so I give it a pass)
Going Under: trust fall (Marv is easily one of the most hateable video game antagonists of all time but damn if his boss theme doesn't slap)
Hades: Last Words (The rolling and the tolling of the bells bells bells bells bells)
Harmony: The Fall of Reverie: Reverie Ascendant (Lena Raine does these medley tracks so good man)
Hollow Knight: Dung Defender (By far the catchiest song about poop on my entire phone)
Ikenfell: Rose Thorns (So the insanely long final boss fight against Oxley overshadowed Aeldra's boss fight in my memory for a long time, but when I watched another playthrough and bought the OST I realized "Oh her theme bops SO much harder than his ever could")
Inscryption: A Final Duel (A hardcore remix of The Scrybe of Magicks, aka one of the only melodic tracks on the album and therefore the one every YouTube video about Inscryption uses in the background. I prefer the epic version just a bit more because honestly that Magnificus setpiece is the best moment in the game)
Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass: Fun, Sunny Day (A fun and silly track as the title suggests, elevated even more by the context in which it plays in the game. The area music alternates between this and the more somber Rainy Sunday to illustrate that Jimmy mother is bipolar [very cute and silly game])
Omori: Bready Steady Go (Like the absolute dipshit I am I actually completely missed the optional Orange Oasis when I played this game myself. Every Let's Player finds it somehow, though, and when they fight the Unbread Twins I invariably stand up and dance along to the boss music.)
One Step from Eden: Perpetual Motion (It's just a good-ass track y'all)
Ori and the Blind Forest: Conundrum (In a soundtrack of sweeping orchestral pieces, this more subdued version of theme that only plays during one small puzzle section might seem a weird choice. But I've always really liked it)
Ori and the Will of the Wisps: Kwolok's Malaise (Kwolok's leitmotif is perfect for a giant frog and the boss remix takes it to it's logical conclusion)
Paradise Killer: Go! Go! Style (This track makes me feel like I'm having a sugar rush. The whole OST does actually but this one especially)
Pyre: Path to Glory (It's just got a really unique vibe to it. I like it)
Scarlet Hollow: Avery (Chill and really beautiful. Avery themself is kind of a sleeper character at this point but I can't wait for Brandon to remix their theme when they get assimilated into a giant plant monster)
Slay the Princess: The Princess (Okay full disclosure I've only played this game once so I don't have the full context for a lot of the tracks on this OST. Maybe hearing them alongside their respective princesses will make me like them more, but for now the title theme is too iconic to beat.)
Sounds of Sympathy (the OST for the game anthology Essays on Empathy): Zen and the Art of Transhumanism (In the Essays on Empathy documentary, fingerspit talked about how she prefers writing obscenely long tracks so the loop doesn't get annoying. Unfortunately for her my favorite track on this album is only three minutes long. It's a lovely little bop.)
Spiritfarer: Mind Palace (I played Spiritfarer before any of the character updates were released, so I didn't get Daria's mind palace sequences in my game. And I mean, they look very platforming-heavy so I'm okay with that, but god this is a gorgeous piece.)
Transistor: Impossible (I think this is Royce Bracket's boss theme? I don't know when any of the tracks on this OST specifically play in game. Regardless of all that this one gets me pumped.)
Unavowed: One Man's Power (I couldn't find a video of this one, but it's gentle saxophone solo that plays when Logan Brown is introduced. I think it fits is character really well and just sounds really nice)
Undertale: Death by Glamour (Best song for best character, enough said)
Wandersong: Moonscape (God knows this game gave me a lot of great options to pick from, but I settled on this one because it's so uplifting.)

the other day on bluesky I made one of those "1 like / 1 song" sort of post, and I decided to make all songs BR music to celebrate our BR community in there, and I decided to also put a brief description on each song to give non-BRs some context [LINK to the post on bsky!] Well, I got like 64 likes lmao so I made a playlist out of the post - here it is!
and to those curious, I'll also paste the context I gave behind each song, down the cut. BR music is SO incredible and so full of colors and variety, you guys should really give it a try 💚💛💙 I hope you like it!!
commission info | patreon | Ko-fi | VGen | bluesky
1. Caxangá - Elis Regina and Milton Nascimento Opening the thread with two of the biggest singers in our BR history, Milton Nascimento & Elis Regina (who has passed already years ago, unfortunately). They were best friends when she was still alive, and their synergy is out of this world, both with super unique voices <3
2. Domingo no Parque or "Sunday at the Park" - Gilberto Gil & Os Mutantes BR used to have these big music festivals back in the 60s, this is one of these performances. Gil is this larger than life singer, and Rita Lee,lead singer of Mutantes (RIP) was so full of energy too <3 This is a song about love and jealousy that ends in a tragic murder 👀 3. Construção or "Construction" - Chibo Buarque I'm only bringing the big guns to this thread lmao this song is NOTORIOUS for the way it was written, musically and lyrically. It's a protest song commenting about the BR dictatorship (1964-1985) in many layers. The orchestra here is insane, mimicking the sound of a busy traffic!
4. Faraó or "Pharao" - Margareth Menezes this song is iconic AF in so many levels!! Lots of African-BR influences, and Margareth sings about the golden era of Egyptian gods as a way to celebrate the black community <3 (pretty much a fast course on Egyptian mythology in the lyrics, no joke!) 🚨🚨🚨EU FALEI FARAÓOOOOOOO!!!🚨🚨🚨
5. A Vingança de Cunhã, or "Maiden's Revenge" - Pietá this one's about the boto(river dolphin)myth we have here(river dolphin turns into a man to seduce young women and leaves them after). Here the dolphin seduces this girl but she reverse-uno-cards him and he cant shapeshift anymore. Very pretty song full of BR folk instruments!💛
6. Malandragem or "Trickery"(???I guess??) - Cássia Eller time to show what BR music is widely known for:LESBIAN / BISEXUAL / WLW SINGERS lmao (I'm so serious!!) Cassia Eller (RIP!) had the most unique voice, and had such a great stage energy! This one is one of her most well-known performances in an MTV Acoustic <3
7. Nós or "Us" - Cássia Eller bc I can't get enough of Cassia, I'll add in another one from her, legit MY FAVORITE- a torch song with this flamenco-like sound???? It's just so cool!! And she showcases her voice skills even further here, she was incredible!
8. Vamos Comer Caetano or "Let's Eat Caetano" - Adriana Calcanhotto I love this performance bc this song is so fucking weird but also such a bop (and hard to explain, if anyone wants to try, be my guest lmao)
9. Veleiros or "Sailboats" - Ney Matogrosso singing Heitor Villa-Lobos this is a 2 for 1 situation, the song is performed by ICONIC BR singer Ney Matogrosso in an album of songs written by BR conductor and classic composer Heitor Villa-Lobos! I'm crazy about the entire album this song is in for real, it's called "O Cair da Tarde", I highly recommend it!
10. Bachianas Brasileiras n5: Aria (Cantilena) - Heitor Villa-Lobos and since we are at it, here's the most famous song by Heitor Villa-Lobos (I'm a Villa-Lobos stan ngl) Full on opera mode!! It's a beautiful aria, sang in BR-Portuguese <3
11. Choros no 10 - Heitor Villa-Lobos Another Villa-L just to showcase his range - last 2 I mentioned were very romantic / operatic w/ solo vocals, etc. This is an instrumental orchestral movement and here you can see how he mixed in classic European orchestra with our identity, using folk/indigenous instruments on the 2nd half!
12. Miragem do Porto or "Harbor's Mirage" - Lenine Perfect segue into this performance of Lenine my beloved <3 <3 He sings as if he's a castaway, dreaming of going back home. This version has a full orchestra, also full of folk instruments and influences. It's so full of energy even the conductor can't help but sing along! EASTER EGG TIME cause this version I described on bsky is not on Spotify, I had to use the album version on the playlist. So if you are A TRUE CHAD reading this, here is the version I described!
13. Preciso Me Encontrar or "[I] Need to Find Myself" - Cartola Cartola was the most important samba composer from the early 1900's <3 And YES! Using the Cowboy Bebop AMV someone made w/ it, bc it's so beautiful and I think it's so AWESOME how this song echoes through all culture and ages! And it matches CB's aesthetics so well!
14. Preciso Me Encontrar, Liniker cover I have to throw in this AMAZING cover of "Preciso Me Encontrar"; it's sung by Liniker, an incredible BR trans singer! Again, I think it's beautiful how this song resonates so much after so many years (it was originally released by Cartola in the 70s), and this video is just gorgeous overall <3 - ALSO NOT AVAILABLE ON SPOTIFY, here's the link!
15. Floral Fury - Cuphead OST Thread intermission - Cheating a little bit here, since this isnt composed by a Brazilian person afaik, but!!! I have to include Floral Fury here bc it's literally early 1900's samba! IT EVEN HAS A CUÍCA (the "straw through plastic cup sound" lmao), it's very accurate and ngl, it's FUN AF!
16. Um Girassol da Cor de Seu Cabelo or "A Sunflower in the Color of Your Hair" - Lô Borges / Clube da Esquina Clube da Esquina is formed by this group of singers from Minas Gerais (including Milton Nascimento from the first song in this thread!) Vocals by Lô Borges, it really has a melancholic, storytelling vibe to it,especially through the arrangement <3
17. Cantiga Por Luciana or "Song for Luciana" - Evinha Another oldie from the 60s I love so much, she has such a pretty voice ahhh<3 She's one of the "voiceclaims" for an OC I have (AME from my drizzle/LAND OCs!) Fun fact! Evinha was the one who sang the BR versions of the songs in Disney's "The Rescuers" (I'll link one next so you can hear it)!
Brazilian dub version of "The Journey" from "The Rescuers", performed by Evinha, from the previous post! Here, the movie was titles "Bernardo e Bianca", after the protagonists I legit think this is one of the best BR versions, and this animated intro in general is a freaking masterpiece. THIS BR VERSION ISNT IN SPOTIFY, HERE'S THE LINK!
Favo de Mel or "Honeycomb" - Milton Nascimento Speaking of BR singers in animations, I HAVE to link this one from no other than freaking Rio 2. It's "Real in Rio", that intro song from Rio 1, but a "sad version" of it performed BEAUTIFULLY by Milton Nascimento my beloved <3 I legit teared up watching the movie when this song came up. NOT ON FUCKING SPOTIFY, HERE IS THE LINK!
"Only a Dream in Rio - Milton Nascimento and James Taylor On Milton Songs That Makes Me Teary Eyed, this one which he collabed with James Taylor?? It's such a random, unexpected feat, but it turned out so beautiful! I think it's a good one to share in here, bc the song is sung half PT-BR, half ENG, I think it's rather appropriate for this thread <3
21. Fairy Tale - Shaman LEGENDARY live performance from metal band Shaman from the early 2000's, when their original vocalist Andre Matos (song writer, pianist, conductor; RIP) was still in the band. Here you can see why Andre was so, so beloved, guy was skilled AF and this song SLAPS SO HARD. BR IS SO AMAZING, GUYS (the version I mentioned above is the one on the playlist, HOWEVER I encourage you to actually watch the video of him performing!!
22. Carolina IV - ANGRA Still on Andre Matos, this is a song from his previous band, ANGRA. This song is part of a concept album where ANGRA mixed in metal+BR elements, you can say this is BR folk metal! The album Holy Land was all around the concept of Brazil, its culture, the colonization and so on. SO COOL!
23. Dança das Borboletas or "Dance of the Butterflies" - Sepultura and Zé Ramalho I can't talk about BR metal without mentioning Sepultura! So here's their cover of Zé Ramalho's song, featuring Zé in the vocals. This was used as soundtrack in the BR movie "Lisbela e o Prisioneiro" (a fave)(Don't be fooled by the butterflies in the title lmao)
24. O Matador or "The Killer" - Sepultura another Sepultura song for the soundtrack of "Lisbela e o Prisioneiro", I like that movie a lot. This is the theme song of Frederico Evandro, a character who's a badass gun for hire. I love how it sounds so metal but still so Brazilian!
25. O Encontro de Lampião & Eike Batista or "The Meeting of Lampião & Eike Batista" - El Efecto More BR folk metal! This is hard to explain w/word limit but TL;DR this song criticizes capitalism and colonization by corporations using the images of Lampião (BR historical figure) and Eike Batista (a real BR CEO); it uses lots of northeast BR influences!
26. Cílio or "Eyelash" - Casa de Caba YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IS IT ITS TIME FOR LUSO-BR PIRATE SHANTIES OK not really but this is how I see this song! Again northeastern BR influences + mention of Yemanjá (yoruba orisha of the seas, she's a big deity in afro-br religions!). If this isn't BR pirate enough idk what it is hehe
27. Arueira - Geraldo Vandré Another one in the "BR pirate shanties" list, which is kinda funny - is a protest song from the 60s and it in fact has elements in common with some sea shanties - CALL/ANSWER singing, it mentions how workers are suffering under hard work / a master,it even has nautical themes (sailors, sea, etc)
28. Canção do Mar or "Song of the Sea" - Dulce Pontes cheating a little again cause Dulce Pontes is a Portuguese singer, but mentioning all the "Luso-BR Sea Shanties", I had to mention this ICONIC performance! This is "fado", a melancholic Portuguese genre of music; I like to parallel it a bit with Irish keening style of singing
29. Canto de Oxum / Inscrição or "Oxum's Song" - Maria Bethânia still in the theme of waters! Iconic Maria Bethânia sings to Oxum, the orisha of fresh waters and beauty! Here in BR, we have afro-based religions that worships such yoruba deities, and we often hear songs praising them like this. The second half praises Yemanjá, deity of the seas!
30. Deixa a Gira Girar - Ana Mametto This one is a cover of Ana Mametto (og song by The Tincoãs released in the 70s), praising Iansã the orisha of the lightning and storms! This performance is so cool cause there's a dancer there with Ana, as Iansã herself dancing onstage + lightning sound effects. ITS JUST INCREDIBLE [LINK TO THE VIDEO!]
31. Vapor Barato or "Cheap Vapor" - Gal Costa and Zeca Baleiro this version of Vapor Barato/A FLor da Pele is everything. Gal and Zeca being fucking iconic for 6mins straight, this song is so melancholic, almost theatrical <3
32. Garoto de Aluguel or "Rentboy"- Belchior and Zé Ramalho it's easy to say Belchior (RIP) is like. Pivotal BR music icon. And here with Zé Ramalho they perform together in this song that's lowkey my favorite lmao, the tango vibes ARE STRONG and I love it so much!
33. Na Hora do Almoço or "At Lunchtime" - Belchior Another Belchior banger-it describes this young person talking about their family at lunchtime, and how everyone is so disconnected from another, "I'm still too young to be this sad", damn </3
34. Trem das Onze or "Eleven's Train" - Adoniran Barbosa ADONIRAN BARBOSA, PORRA <3 another super important samba composer~ In this one, the protagonist laments he can't stay with his love a bit longer, bc he has to go home and he can't miss the train that leaves at 11. The way the choir ends with a train-like sound, SO GOOD!
35. O Rei do Gatilho or "Cowboy / Old West King" losely translated - Moreira da Silva THIS ONE I SWEAR. It is a SAMBA THAT MIMICS A COWBOY/WESTERN MOVIE. But like, in a BR way of course. It's a pretty hilarious song with Moreira making different voices, it has sound effects of shots, horses running, applauses and so on, it's so fun!
36. O Vira or loosely translated as "Shapeshifting" - Ney Matogrosso Going back to Ney Matogrosso, I have to mention this one, the title kind of means "Shapeshifting"(as in werewolves)but it goes beyond that,it's hard to explain lol Ney has always been very out & about on genderfuckery and being gay so this song plays with that. a true icon Also THAT OUTFIT! 👌👌👌 [Link to the video so you can see his cunty looks!]
37. Rosa de Hiroshima or "Rose of Hiroshima" - Secos & Molhados / Ney Matogrosso on a more serious note, this is another famous song from Ney/Secos & Molhados (his former band). It's a tragic song where he lists the victms of the bombings in Japan, but in a very poetic manner BR and JP have history, so this is in a way our tribute to that sad event
38. Hinamatsuri / Se Essa Rua Fosse Minha or "Doll's Festival/If This Lane Was Mine" - Iuri Salvagnini speaking of BR/JP ties, this is one I found totally by chance and I'm SO HAPPY I did. This album has medleys of both JP and BR nursery rhymes. Se Essa Rua Fosse Minha is a very famous BR folk song and so ominous in a way, this version really reflects that!
39. Pegasus Fantasy - Edu Falaschi And speaking of which - ANIME TIME! Edu Falaschi, the vocalist from ANGRA that came after Andre Matos, was the iconic voice of Saint Seiya's first opening theme, "Pegasus Fantasy"! Saint Seiya was HUGE here in BR/Latin America in the 90s!
40. Descobridor dos Sete Mares or "Seeker of the Seven Seas" - Tim Maia Tim Maia (RIP) was like, a BR soul singer, his performances were all like this, full of energy with a big band and everything! (There's also this meme where ppl say this was supposed to be a Jojo's opening song, lmao)
41. Mania de Você or "Crazy About You"- Rita Lee and Milton Nascimento LEGENDARY performance of Rita Lee (RIP) and Milton Nascimento! A very sexy song, and their performing energy just brings everything to whole other level. It gets even better when we see Rita teasing Milton (around 5:33) haha <3 so cute!
42. Chuva or "Rain" - Gaby Amaranthos This one is kind of funny, but also kinda moving??? The lyrics are about the cycle of water -literal, textbook information about the cycle of water and how rains are formed At the same time she also sings "Water cycle is an eternal dance" which is such a beautiful way of putting it??
43. Ela Disse Adeus or "She Said Goodbye" - Os Paralamas do Sucesso I remember watching this music video as a kid and I loved it. It stars the incredible BR actress Fernanda Torres & the members of the band, all of them mistreating her character so badly until she just decides to kill them one by one lmao this song/mv still is so good!
44.Segue o Seco or "Draught Goes On" - Marisa Monte I also remember watching this one as a kid and being just fascinated by the video, it's legit a fucking masterpiece, the aesthetics and everything are very dramatic and theatrical. Marisa has such a GORGEOUS voice hnggg Still a favorite to this day [LINK TO THE MV!]
45. Ainda Bem or "Thank Goodness" - Marisa Monte another one by Marisão that I thinnk is so cool, especially the video, I love that's pretty much her just dancing with no one other than MMA wrestler Anderson Silva??? lmao so random but so cool!
46. O Céu é Muito or "The Sky is [Too] Much" - Lenine Lenine's heavy metal phase dkjfhskdjf jokes aside, I freaking love this one bc it's a bit different from his usual stuff (which I also really love). I think it's so cool when singers are so versatile and their voice will fit into any genre!
47. Matheus Embaixador or "Matheus, the Embassador" - Antonio Nóbrega Antonio Nobrega is an actor/folk musician that I really like. He plays rabeca (that folk violin he's holding) in his music as well! This goes into the BR Pirates Playlist thing for sure! hehe
48. Abrição de Portas or "Opening the Doors" - Antônio Nóbrega is a folk song / adaptation from Cantigas de Santa Maria, a compilation of medieval Portuguese poetry/songs! This one goes way back haha. And it really has the Royal Castle vibes to it, it's very Brazilian High Fantasy 👀
49. Bandolins - Oswaldo Montenegro This one is another mix of kind of funny with brilliant - Oswaldo wrote this song based on a friend of his, the song is really heartfelt and the last portion really GOES HARD with the vocals and harmonies holy fuck; but is also has some weird word choices lmao overal, it's a true bop, so dramatic!
50. Admirável Chip Novo or "Brave New Chip" - Pitty more BRmetal! This one was popular in the early 2000's and now I look at the lyrics like DAMN.She didnt have to go this hard-it has the obv ref to Brave New World on the title and she heavily criticizes consumerism and the lack of critical thought thats encouraged by capitalism??
51. Garganta or "Throat" - Ana Carolina Ana Carolina, BI ICON from my teenage years fr fr, I was obsessed. She has a very unique, deep voice, and her guitar skills are pretty insane, this one really shows all of that!! [The version in the playlist is the same as the video, BUT linking the video bc SHE'S SO BADASS!]
52. Eu Comi a Madona or "I Fucked Madona" - Ana Carolina lmao this song is what is says on the tin, Ana came out of the closed in the early 2000s as bi and ever since she has been VERY UNABASHEDLY BI and honestly good for her Iconic song for real kdjfhdkjfh [LINKING THE VIDEO OF HER LIVE PERFORMANCE. BECAUSE OF REASONS.]
53. Auroras Flamboyans - Sofia Freire I don't even know how to explain this one, Sofia has such a dream-like songwriting - she keeps saying things, listing them as if to paint an imagery, it's kinda abstract and so beautiful tbh. She also layers her vocals and plays piano for it, honestly just give it a listen, it's legit so good <3
54." Valsa Pra Lua or Waltz to the Moon" - Vítor Araújo absolutely gorgeous piano instrumental that's soundtrack to the BR movie Elena. I never saw the movie, but this song is soooo good <3
55. Espumas Ao Vento or "[Like] Foam in the Wind" - Elza Soares another version done for the Lisbela e o Prisioneiro movie (srsly that movie has SO MANY BANGERS in the soundtrack it's ridiculous). Elza (RIP) was another huge name in BR music, here you'll hear her iconic voice and singing style!! <3
56. Fixação or "Obsession" - Kid Abelha a song that's super relevant even nowadays lmao she describes the PoV of someone obsessing over a celebrity 24/7, how they keeps making up scenarios in their head featuring their fave. It really contrasts w the way she sings/the arrangement! I really like this version a lot ngl
Ragatanga - Rouge BRAZILIAN Y2K GIRL BAND TIME. Rouge was a girlband formed in a reality show, designed to discover "the next pop stars and form a pop group". Rouge was MASSIVELY successful, at least for a while. This one is their master hit (which is actually a cover from pop Spanish trio Las Ketchup)
58. Lua de Cristal or "Crystal Moon" by Xuxa and the Paquitas PERFECT SEGUE INTO XUXA'S MASTERPIECE lmao Xuxa ("SHOO-SHAH") is a former kid's show host and in the 90s she starred the Cinderella retelling movie Lua de Cristal. Big bop song, the movie not really, its kind of a cult for meme reasons lol the song is very Sailor Moon-coded too ngl
59. A Lenda or "Legend" - Sandy & Junior speaking of kid-oriented 90s pop music, I HAVE to mention Sandy & Junior, a duo of siblings that were super famous back then. A Lenda is definitely their best song, I non ironically still listen to it, cheesy-ness and all, it'ss dramatic AF dkjfhdkfjh
60. Sete Vidas or "Seven Lives" - Marcus Viana & Adriana Mezzadri this one was soundtrack to a historical period BR miniseries in the 2000s. It was composed by musician Marcus Viana (the guy playing violin in the Shaman video from before!) and it's sung by AMAZING Adriana Mezzadri, (actually Peruvian and not BR!) I LOVE this song, it's so good!
61. Sob o Sol or "Under the Sun" - Marcus Viana Marcus Viana also composed the ost for the absofucking popular 2000's telenovela O Clone! The songs were so iconic; the version in the playlist is the og version, but I linked this version in the thread, a version that's in Arabic! Lebanese singer Raya Hilal also sings the PT-BR version on the second half <3
62. Romance de Duas Caveiras or "A Skeleton's Romance" - Alvarenga & Ranchinho this is like. Old BR country/folk music and still hilarious AF lmao They are describing the romance of two skeletons in a cementery, how they go on with their...lives...death...?Until the day one of the skeletons ditches her skeleton bf over another guy(a fresh corpse lol). The video of them performing seems straight out of the Pixar movie Coco in every sense lmao
63. O Bêbado e a Equilibrista or "The Drunkard and the Tightrope Walker" - Elis Regina second to last song has to be Elis again! This one is a notorious protest song, really about hope and just waiting for things to finally be better
64. Evidências or "Evidences" - Chitãozinho & Xororó AAAAAAND LAST SONG IS, IN THE GREAT BR SPIRIT, EVIDÊNCIAS LMAO, it's a widely cherished song, but also kind of a meme, and everything in between. It's a cheesy love song in the classic sertanejo style (BR country genre), sung by Chitãozinho e Xororó, a duo of brothers!

quick ttpd thoughts
ok so. i did listen to a leak so I had time to sit with the OG album for a while. I have not yet listened to all the Anthology tracks, but this not-doing of something is part of my album reaction. Bear with me.
First of all: I am insanely impressed with Taylor for being this raw and messy on record. More distinguished haters have said that this album once again feels like self-mythologizing, but I personally do not agree. User dancefloors had an excellent take on this: the album is emotional and messy to a degree where you feel like you should not be listening to it. At least that's how I felt.
However, that also has a downside. I find many of the lyrics, especially on the standard edition, to be unpolished or downright cringe. This rambl-y first draft type of writing might work for other artists, but I never feel like it works for Taylor. The second line of Fortnight is so awful that I was CONVINCED the leak I heard was AI, and people have talked at length about the tattooed Golden Retriever. Girl. Almost every song had an insane clunker or two hidden in it. This is not helped by what I personally (!) perceive to be a bit of a rehashing of imagery and themes that have been prominent in songwriting trends for the past few years. Killing the woman you are jealous of, Cassandra, religious imagery .... Don't get me wrong, I think the call for "originality" at al costs can be detrimental to art, but frequently with this album i felt as if lines were haparzadly chosen to fit a certain "aesthetic" that didn't mesh well with the rest of the song. Like. Nothing about "my husband's cheating. I wanna kill him." communicates any deeper emotion. (Compared to e.g. Samia's "I hope you marry the girl from your hometown and I'll fucking kill her and I'll fucking freak out.")
The introductory poem is one of the worst things i have ever read.
The thing is. I don't always do well with new releases, they are overwhelming, etc., but I listened to the first four tracks and was like "how can anybody think this is good". Which IS a hater take, and there is much I do enjoy about the album, and I am happy others like it.But with the already present repetition PLUS 15 Tracks .... it is a bit too much. I could go on and on about the repetition of words and themes that feels a bit trite (smalltown stuff, "starry-eyed", "precocious"), but I don't wanna. I wish there had been more editing, and I think I have talked at length before about how I do not like this new era of just putting out everything.
Alas. I did not click with this album and there are very few tracks i want to go back to. So Long, London is a favorite because of the concise lyrics and beautiful production, I can bop to Down Bad, but daddy I love him is fun imagery-wise, Clara/Sam/Sophia/Marcus is sad and also. A Lot., So High School, and I dig "You're not Dylan Thomas, I'm not Patti Smith, this ain't the Chelsea Hotel, we're modern idiots". The 2am tracks need more attention, but I already like Looking Into Windows (?) much more than a lot of other tracks - generally, I enjoy the more genuinely sad Joe tracks about the slow demise of a relationship much more than the fast paced high strung ones.
anything else .... well. I don't know.

my official ranking of (basically) every song by hozier
(ignoring some collabs/songs from soundtracks etc)
(this is just my opinion no one shout at me)
(he has no Bad songs, only Less Brilliant ones)
52) To Noise Making (Sing) (the sing chorus at the end goes on just *that* bit too long
51) Sunlight (slightly repetitive)
50) Nobody (maybe this is controversial? does however contain one of my favourite lyrics “it’s suicide Tuesday back in LA”)
49) Sedated (the lowest ranked song of his self titled album and it’s not because it’s not good it’s because his discography is fucking insane)
48) Someone New (only ranked this low because it was very overplayed in Ireland when it came out)
47) Almost (Sweet Music) (this was never my favourite song but who can resist “i laugh like me again she laughs like you”)
46) Son of Nyx (hozier made the best study music song of all time)
45) Wasteland, Baby! (sounds exactly like the album feels, if that makes sense?)
44) Swan Upon Leda (would be higher but i keep accidentally forgetting to add it to my playlist because it’s not on an album. also Free Palestine)
43) Better Love (hozier’s voice is so beautiful)
42) Dinner & Diatribes (ever since someone said he sounds like Count von Count in this song i can’t un-hear it)
41) It Will Come Back (so sexy. one of the sexiest songs in his oeuvre)
40) NFWMB (an under appreciated classic. i remember playing this in the car when my dad was dropping our friend’s kid to school and getting in trouble for the cursing)
39) The Parting Glass - Live from The Late Late Show (not only a beautiful rendition, but it was also performed during covid when everyone was feeling very hopeless and he just captivated ireland for a few short moments. gorgeous)
38) Anything But (we are reaching the territory of songs that are so goddamned good that it feels a crime they are so low down. he has dozens of such songs)
37) In the Woods Somewhere (eerie vibes which are beautiful and exacerbated when you find out he based this on a dream he had)
36) To Be Alone (again, CRIMINAL that this is so low down. blame hozier having so many good songs. don’t blame me)
35) Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene (a bop AND a banger AND a jam. triple threat)
34) Damage Gets Done (their voices are soooo beautiful together)
33) Be (“When Atlas acts the maggot” is one of Hozier’s best Irish culture lines)
32) The Jackboot Jump - Live (BUT THE JACKBOOT ONLY JUMPS DOWN ON PEOPLE STANDING UP!!!)
31) Shrike (this song made me cry when i first heard it and i am Not one to cry)
30) To Someone From a Warm Climate (Uiscefhuaraithe) (GAEILGE MENTION!!!!)
29) Jackie and Wilson (one of my first ever favourite hozier songs)
28) Talk (i love the myth of orpheus and eurydice and i ALSO imagine being loved by hozier)
27) Moment’s Silence (Common Tongue) (blowjobs)
26) Eat Your Young (hozier wrote this for all first year trinity students who had to read Swift for their intro to irish writing lectures)
25) All Things End (don’t be sad. we begin again :). hozier said so)
24) I, Carrion (Icarian) (soft, sad, beautiful. like hozier)
23) Nina Cried Power (feat. Mavis Staples) (also very overplayed in Ireland but this time it really deserved it!!)
22) Cherry Wine - Live (one of the most beautiful and recognisable guitar bits of all time. yes i said guitar bits i don’t know anything about guitars)
21) As It Was (the drug the dark the light the flame…)
20) First Time (“anyway”)
19) Who We Are (makes me feel like my chest is being lifted to god)
18) No Plan (“As Mack explained, there will be darkness again” is one of the all-time great Hozier lyrics actually)
17) Would That I (it’s illegal for anyone to dislike this song)
16) De Selby (Part 2) (he wants to run against the world that’s turning!! he moves so fast that he’d outpace the dawn!!)
15) De Selby (Part 1) (AN ENTIRE VERSE AS GAEILGE)
14) Like Real People Do (once again, how is this so low? hozier is too good. “we should just kiss like real people do” lyrics of all time)
13) Butchered Tongue (i wrote an entire essay post about this song. with citations)
12) From Eden (time has maybe made us forget just how fucking insanely good this song is. IDEALISM SITS IN PRISON CHIVALRY FELL ON HIS SWORD INNOCENCE DIED SCREAMING. also reminds me of verse 2 of Human by The Killers)
11) Work Song (WHEN MY TIME COMES AROUND LAY ME GENTLY IN THE COLD DARK EARTH. NO GRAVE CAN HOLD MY BODY DOWN. I’LL CRAWL HOME TO HER. also special mention for: “in the low lamp light i was free” aka the name of one of my criminal minds fanfics. moving on)
10) Run (SOOOOO underrated. literally rare is this love keep it covered! run to me run to me lover! run until you feel your lungs bleeding!)
9) Movement (i played this song every day on repeat for 2 months when i was 17)
8) Arsonist’s Lullabye (wario of better love. don’t ask me how or why)
7) In a Week (feat. Karen Cowley) (the most gorgeous beautiful song of all time their voices are perfect for each other - I’D BE HOME WITH YOU)
6) First Light (BUT AFTER THIS IM NEVER GONNA BE THE SAME!!! AND I AM NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!)
5) Francesca (AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. URGAAAHHHHHHHH. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I’D TELL THEM PUT ME BACK IN IT!!!!!! DARLING I WOULD DO IT AGAIN!!!!!! IF I COULD HOLD YOU FOR A MINUTE!!!!! DARLING I’D GO THROUGH IT AGAIN!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)
4) Unknown / Nth (DO YOU KNOWWWWW I COULD BREAK BENEATH THE WEIGHT OF THE GOODNESS LOVE I STILL CARRY FOR YOU!!!! he had no right to sing this. and as beautifully as he does. makes me cry. sha-la-la)
3) Abstract (Psychopomp) (this wasn’t originally my favourite when i first listened to Unreal Unearth has grown on my heart and will not let go. did you know the memory hurts but does me no harm. and did you SEE HOW IT SHINESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
2) Take Me To Church (this being his debut single. DEBUT. SINGLE. no one else was doing it like him. the vocals the lyrics god the beautiful lyrics the MUSIC VIDEO!!!! ireland’s best living artist.)
1) Foreigner’s God (my favourite song of all time. no notes. utterly perfect in every way.)

Okay now I’m thinking about longevity in the fandom and ttpd which is SO interesting because she’s putting out so so much material and people’s shortening attention spans and all… the staying power definitely feels different, versus people who were here pre-Lover, waiting 2ish years between albums meant you listened to the albums a LOT. You’d easily remember all the words to Sparks Fly even by the time 1989 was out, because you had 2+ years of Speak Now being the recent Taylor album and only Red in between. (Of course I still remember all her lyrics but I’m insane. Ttpd is a slightly different story though, there’s So Much.)
Anyway, idk if that point before made sense, but I could see a few songs having longevity. I agree about The Manuscript because it’s so rich and ties together some very big people and motifs and experiences. I could see Guilty as Sin? because spice and it’s got an addictive quality not unlike Dress (but the opposite as I’m pretty sure you’ve said… but similar!). Possibly also So Long London (sad bop/bookend the Joever, track 5, beautiful intro), Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? (her fame songs tend to stick around, even the more “obscure” ones like The Lucky One, because there aren’t many and her views on it continue to evolve; same applies to Clara Bow, but I doubt it will be as popular just due to the sound tbh, like cardigan vs peace, traditional song structure and sounds tends to win in the fandom). The others are a toss-up and this is getting long so I’ll stop but yeah felt the need to share ajdjsjd
yeah and those albums had multiple singles, music videos, tons of radio play and promo... looots of time to let them sink in. and after 13+ years of releasing music, she knows some of it will get lost in the shuffle (like deep cuts, or simply older tracks - 'if you know this one, sing it, because it's old' re: crazier recently.)
i think ttpd has some bops - guilty as sin?, maybe down bad, icdiwabh. and i agree who's afraid will have some longevity because of its message (same with i can do it.) but there's like, this category of Meaningful Taylor Songs that say something about her life or relationship with her career, like long live, yoyok, wcs... i wonder which ones will fall in that category? maybe the prophecy (in addition to icdiwabh and waolom)?

oooof ask for hozier recs and i shall deliver!! i've been obsessed with him i fear...
my personal rn is probably Too Sweet, but my most played song of 2023 was All Things End. beautifully moving (as in i was sobbing for the entire song the first time i heard it), i just adore the way he describes love.
more personal favorites: Through Me (this song is insane actually!! can't describe it with words.), From Eden (one of the best love songs i've ever heard), Angel of Small Death (soo insanely addictive, his voice in this one ugh) and Movement (soft and beautiful and the very first song of his that I heard). The Eat Your Young EP is a wonder in itself but tbh so is everything else,,,,
now for some specifically sugu coded songs: Through Me and All Things End, Who We Are from his last album (the lyrics... my days the lyrics are so beautiful), Blood Upon the Snow!! (written for God of War Ragnarok, it's so good ??), Almost (Sweet Music) (be still my foolish heart, don't ruin this on me ✊😔)
but like i said, every time i hear a Hozier song it's sugu coded in my head... the lyrics always make sense to me. the way they're always so poetically romantic, yet in many of them there's a lingering pain underneath, wether it's because the love is already gone or because the love is simply way too much for just one heart to handle... i'm not okay.
fun fact, i once fell asleep listening to him and dreamt that it was suguru singing... and you know what it makes so much sense, i'll take it.
this got kinda long i'm sorry :(( anyways i hope you have a great day/night
(perhaps i shall write a lil' sugu thing inspired by too sweet)
NOE !!!! finally getting to this……. thank you so much for the recs!!! 🥺🥺 i appreciate it sm…… putting some of my thoughts under the cut hehe
I LOVE TOO SWEET . SO MUCH. it was the first song of his i listened to and wowwwwwww does it go hard….. so catchy and good and just. augh. IT’S SO SUGUCODED TO ME…. esp depression era sugu….. the lyrics are just gorgeous and so him. “but while in this world // i think i’ll take my whiskey neat // my coffee black and my bed at three // you’re too sweet for me”…. :’3 my baby
FROM EDEN IS SUCH A BOP . i loveee the instrumental ……. AND THE LYRICS . ”honey you’re familiar like my mirror years ago // idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on its sword” <- BANGERRRR I CRIED . i am thinking many knight sugu thoughts ngl…. “i slithered here from eden just to sit outside your door” THINKING MORE SUGU THOUGHTS but specifically cult leader sugu …. aughhh 😔😔
angel of small death & the codeine scene……… tell me why this one made me so insane . such a tasty title and instrumental and lyrics i’m just????? i feel this way abt all of these but this one is so sugucoded too 😭 “freshly disowned in some frozen devotion”…. that’s our guy <333
EAT YOUR YOUNG IS SO CRAZY GOOD OUGHH….. i love love loveeee the “seven new ways that you can eat your young” part 😵‍💫😵‍💫 soso addicting. the lyrics are great and his voice is just soooo……. i don’t even know . i’m a little obsessed . “it’s quicker and easier to eat your young”…….. hhhhhhhhHH very sugucoded too ofc . any mention of eating is automatically a sugu reference 🙏
movement is super catchy !!!!! kinda relaxing too…… very soft. i rlly like the chorus :33 gives me waltz vibes…… kinda haunting…….
all things end + through me are soso pretty!!!! goshhhh his voice is nice……. i love the final part of all things end!!! w the synchronized clapping!!!!! so good …. and the lyrics for through me are so tasty . “with each grave, i think of loss // and i can only think of you // and i couldn’t measure it”…….. nomnom
ohhhhhh who we are is so beautiful :(((( his voice sounds so tender ….. i def get the sugu vibes here too!!!!! the feeling of something important slipping through your fingers …. “this phantom life, it sharpens like an image // but it sharpens like a knife” 😵‍💫😵‍💫 vert tasty . very sugu.
I’VE HEARD BLOOD UPON THE SNOW BEFORE BC OF RAGNAROK….. godddd it’s so. chillingly beautiful. the instrumental scratches my brain just right …… and the LYRICS . “too all things housed in her silence // nature offers a violence”….. “the parent forced to eat its young before i grows”…… it’s very . Raw . i like it a lot :3
AND FINALLY….. almost (sweet music). SO GOOD. i adore this instrumental and vibe so much + the lyrics are obv super pretty….. “i laugh like me again — she laughs like you”…… i love how light this one sounds in comparison to some of the other ones!!! a summer song for sure… a lil bittersweet….. and the chorus is literally SO addicting i can’t stand it……. BUT YES THIS ONE IS SO VERY SUGU. NOE. IM TEARING UP 😭😭 “be still my foolish heart // don’t ruin this on me”…. the idea of sugu thinking this…. maybe an au where he slowly recovers after his almost-defection….. or a childhood friends to lovers au…… i dunno. but my brain is spinning. i love him :(((((((
PHEWWW THOSE WERE GOOD . i love his voice sm….. i think my favs out of these options are too sweet, almost (sweet song), from eden and maybeeee angel of sweet death/eat your young…. but they were all super catchy :’3 thank you sm for these recs noe… sugu has invaded my brain

hi april!! i was wondering if you had any louis tomlinson recs for someone just getting into his music!! i really like two of us and just hold on but i haven't heard that many of his other songs. i know you love him and would love to hear some of your favorites!! thanks in advance :)
OH ANON THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY, THANKS FOR ASKING!!!!
okay so i think faith in the future is his best album so far but there's still some bops in walls (his first album) so feom there u have two of us (you've already heard) and defenseless, habit, don't let it break your heart and only the brave are THE BEST. (only the brave kind of lacks any big production but it's such a beautiful song that i think represent queerness so well!!!!)
now, from faith in the future you have really upbeat songs like silver tongues, headline, bigger than me or the greatest, which are SO good. but my personal favorites from the album are saturdays, angels fly, holding on to heartache and that's the way love goes. THE LYRICS UGH SO GOOD.
saturdays have this line that's "my heart might be broken but i won't be broken down" AND ITS LITERALLT INSANE IN MAKES ME SO FERAL.
OH OH OH AND CHICAGO. YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO CHICAGO. BEST SONG EVER. SUCH A GREAT SONG.
and lucky again!!!
also psps i think you'll find that louis' lyrics have this recurrent theme of positivity and hope that i find so comforting, so i really hope you can get into his music. <3333

— OCS AS HOZIER SONGS
tagged by @inafieldofdaisies and @corvosattano to take this uquiz and I definitely wasn’t gonna miss this one! Thank you both 💕💕
tag list (as to be added or removed!): @adelaidedrubman @florbelles @marivenah @simonxriley @shegetsburned @voidika @kyber-infinitygems @socially-awkward-skeleton @v0idbuggy @aceghosts @jillvalentinesday @risingsh0t @unholymilf @thedeadthree @cassietrn @jackiesarch
Tumblr media
FRANCESCA
"i would do it again." honestly this song changed my life. i hope the people you love are worth suffering for.
Tumblr media
CHERRY WINE
ahaha. the gentleness that comes not from the absence of violence but despite the abundance of it, am i right? insane how the song that feels most like falling in love is also a song about abuse. the lyrics "oh but she looks like sleep to the freezing" haunt me. this is a beautiful song, but i would never wish a relationship like this upon anyone. i hope you have some time to sit under the stars soon.
Tumblr media
FROM EDEN
you might like the game slitherio. also, you're a bop. have you seen Good Omens? there's this snake demon you might really enjoy.
Tumblr media
ABSTRACT (PSYCHOPOMP)
i mean, the world is so broken. and yet it's so beautiful it makes you want to cry. what can you even do with a feeling like this?
Tumblr media
NFWMB
oh, it is a privilege to be loved by you. you'd break the world for the person you love. we all want a love like that, i think. we all want such utter devotion. save it for someone who deserves it, though, because not everyone does.

top 10 title tracks of 2023
in which i am a nerd and rant about music<3
10. BYOB - Billlie
Tumblr media
this is just the cutest little city pop song! it's simple and catchy and it was a real change to hear such soft voices from billlie! softer title tracks always stand out to me because they are often so so pretty and delicate and byob is so so pretty and delicate! and the lyrics... i have claimed this as an aromantic anthem, it's ours. not relating to your friends having crushes .... billlie i see u
9. Break the Brake - Xdinary Heroes
Tumblr media
this song is just straight vibes... the loudest rock we've gotten from xdinary and I appreciate it SO much. the verses r so clean and the falsetto.. its harmonically so interesting so the noise of the chorus feels properly cathartic and doesn't feel like a loss which can sometimes happen in scream-esc choruses. It's arranged SO well to balance all these things and be stimulating while also being so emotive. AND JUNHAN WITH THOSE CRUNCHY NOTES IN HIS SOLO. the dissonance.. its so brain-sratchy
8. In Bloom - Zerobaseone
Tumblr media
zebi brainrot is so real friends.. be careful. this song is so beautiful! i think its a perfect example of the song marrying the concept and mv and members tones so well. from literally the first minute of zb1 i was so excited about their concept of mixing natural imagery like flowers with glitchy technology imagery and i hoped the music would match... AND IT DID! its so lyrical while being crunchy and energetic. SUCH a slayful debut
7. #menow - Fromis_9
Tumblr media
this song is sooooo pretty. epitome of a soft bop. it's a classic fromis sound but with this sense of maturity and humility that makes it so engaging and emotional. it demands to be taken seriously but still is so fun! the vocal production is next level.. the effect on their voices in the chorus so they're used like instruments... one of favourite techniques ever. i LOVE when the vocals truly feel like part of the arrangement and not just sitting on top and this song truly does that
6. Spicy - Aespa
Tumblr media
the absolute cunt aespa serve in this song... who let them. anyone who knows me knows i'm obsessed with everything moonshine has ever made.. and so when i heard they were doing an aespa title... i went crazy. and i am so right for it. THE BASS IS INSANE?? it puts all other synth basses to shame with how in your face it is. and the crispy snare? idk how to describe this song other than cunty because she genuinely does not care about being clean or palatable... like she is In Your Face with sound. and aespa literally ate that up... they are so fun and cheeky and confident! i'm sorry this is the kind of song that only a group of baddies could handle and aespa stepped up
5. Sugar Rush Ride - TXT
Tumblr media
txt doing disco... like you already have me at that. it's sooooo groovy and although the anti-chorus was surprising.. i'm not mad at it! I'm so happy they went into it full force with the whisper vocals and the choreo switching mood, it rly helped the genre change make sense. and the DISCOOO at the end.. bop central. the lyrics and choreo and vibes overall r just so beautiful.. what can i say i love songs about gay sex i mean forbidden love...
4. Groovy - Cravity
Tumblr media
the funky bop of all funky bops... literally funk pop goodness! there is so much movement in this track theres so many different rhythms happening and the blend together sooo well. the dance break is perfect.. literally everything you want from a dance break with the continuation of the same sounds but a new tone to it and new rhythmic focuses. and the choreo for it literally hits ever beat you want it to and stretches out the time between them perfectlyyyy. but ultimately it is on here because it is a feel-good happy fun bop.. and she excels at it! vity makes me so happy and they are so good at making songs that make you happy
3. Galileo - Kep1er
Tumblr media
cutest song of the year! it is so groovy and fun and danceable. it is sooo feel-good it literally makes me smile every time. thank you hiyyih for putting aegyo in a song<3 where is her nobel peace prize. this is the kind of song where you truly can't hear the music theory going on because it just does exactly what you want it to do! any tension chords are resolved perfectly where you want them to. it's the perfect example of chords from minor keys borrowed to make a song that sounds so major and happy. there is absolutely nothing i would change about this song it is sooo perfect. absolutely filled to the brim with joy
2. ROAR - The Boyz
Tumblr media
...like literally hello? this song came out of nowhere for me i did NOT expect to be as impressed as i was like my life changed after this song. firstly the whistle.. hot and sexy and catchy. carrying it through as a motif, chopping it up, creating variations, translating it to a singable vocal line... all of that is SO impressive to be able to pull off. crunchy track underneath.. beautiful. but what is most impressive to me about this song is the topline. the vocals are literally insane.. chanhee and hyunjae have my favourite tbz voices and u are crazy if u don't agree that they r the main characters of this song. some of those chorus lines are So high and they can sing them in a way that sounds so effortless. and the backing vocals... the Incredibly high harmony in the choruses makes me want to scream (it's jacob i think.. jail). and there is just voices Everywhere.. everywhere theres little 'ahs' hidden around and it not only fits the songs sexy concept in such a natural way but it just fills up every bit of space in the song. and the lyrics... once again i love a song about ..*checks notes* forbidden love.. that is damned by heaven... definitely not about gay sex tho .. definitely not..
1. Chill Kill - Red Velvet
Tumblr media
second moonshine on the list .. no one is suprised. i think this song has complimented red velvet's two sides of creepy and feel-good the most successfully. the tone shift from the verses to the chorus is so obvious... but seamless. and what does it is the harmony! the chords are perfect... it seems redundant to talk about rv vocals but they rly just make the song. and the outro... blending both vocal parts of the chorus together.. it sounds epic. it adds to both the happy and creepy by sounding like a group of friends together.. but also cult-y with all that creepiness still lingering. singing 'forget about your sorrow' with the happiest voices like the verses weren't filled with creepy minor sounds... literally gaslighting queens. this song is terrifying and also the most joyful (hi sooyoung 😘) experience to listen to.... only the dream team of moonshine cazziopeia and red velvet can manage that. and it's no surprise this dream team gets my no.1 spot!
thank you for reading if you got this far ! pls share your favs with me and if we share any i'd love to hear what you think! happy new year everyone I truly hope it treats you well<3 and here's to more bops in the new year!!!

Imagine being on this planet, living at the same time as Monsta X and then sleeping on their talent, their music, their beauty. Like literally imagine that for a moment. Missing out on their insanely good music, all their bops, their crazy vocals, the best rappers in Kpop, the lyrics. Not knowing how funny and entertaining they are, how sweet and open minded, respectful, supportive, positive and caring they are. Sleeping on some of the best visuals in the entirety of Kpop and I mean INSANE face cards. And all of that because you decided to be a hater for absolutely no reason. Lmao just imagine that. Couldn’t be me.

my insane thoughts on "shifter" by azsagawa
i want to devour this album. i need to taste every inch of this album. i need to be drenched in it so my skin may absorb it. so it may become part of my body forever.
(individual song thoughts below the cut)
- kokuseki (yunosuke) - solid opener. really nice and stylish bop, yunosuke and azsa complement each other so well, i'd dare say azsa is 2nd to wami for suiting his songs.
- lotus (tokiwa) - AMAZING song, tokiwa completely blew me out of the water with this one with how detailed it is. this song is sweet and enticing; the lyrics are just sung so desperately and delicately, and the chorus is so catchy. absolutely one of my favorites on the album.
- black out (SHOW) - following the same style as "kokuseki" in his stylish bop style. although it's not as engaging, this being in-between "lotus" and "koibana" gives my heart a chance to rest and instead just groove. it's like smooth cruising. really good album placing/song order
- koibana (wotaku) - probably the most drastically different song on the album, it uses menacing strings and feels so dramatic and it TARGETS EVERY PART OF MY SOUL AND BEING. the dark strings, the desperate lyrics; it's an insane lovesickness; THE SWORD STABBING SOUND EFFECT TOO?!?!?!??? it's just so good. the way he goes from menacing softness to desperate and harried passion in his voice. it's compositionally SO FUCKING GOOD!!!!!! as far as i can tell, it's about a sick & dying girl that the singer is in love with and wants to die next to her, feels the same pain as her
Tumblr media
- kiminodoku (higma) - pulls the emotion back, more laid back and a bit more relaxed; but the lyrics are still following the same thread of "love" and heart pains. it almost feels sad in a way, like rain falling down? "kimi no doku" means "your poison." there's a lyric where it's like "i've become your poison." his voice here is just... i can't describe it. it's a bit more laid back and lower in pitch and tone than his usual high pitch
Tumblr media
- mirage (suisoh) - THIS SONG IS SO FUCKING SEXY AND SEDUCTIVE it's a total bop too and like. the way he uses the whisper and breaths IS SO FUCKING ADDICTING. the title is actually "souou" which can mean "togetherness" but lyrically it's a pun on "mousou" (mirage.) implying the love or scene is like a "mirage." the way his singing here feels like you can almost taste it too, and fitting because there's a lyric where it's like, "hey, what lipstick are you wearing, what does it taste like? tell me" which is. obviously an invitation to kiss and I'M JUST. FUUUUUCK. his technique here is on point he's showing off and it's so fucking hot.
Tumblr media
- yudotou (是) - like i said, in terms of album placing, this feels like you're ascending to heaven. it's a slower paced song, but the harmonies are so beautiful and heavenly. it's a song that really just feels like heaven... it's so nice. it's really nice. i've come around on this song because of the album
- nerve (azsagawa) - he wrote this himself! another favorite on the album, with lotus, koibana, and mirage. really great and beautiful song with enthralling pianos, i really think since he wrote this himself, this is the most personal song on the album; the song that is PURE azsagawa and his expression. it's really special because of that, i think. it's exciting in an almost ethereal way? god i just can't describe it. it's closer to a typical jpop/jrock or anime op/ed than everything else on this album, but it's just so. much more beautifully expressive in its own way? god. i love it. i really love. piano work here is absolutely fucking amazing. and his vocals too feel more "middle ground" or "default expression" for him but that doesn't mean it's mid. it feels most authentic actually.
- noruka/soruka (police piccadilly) another amazing bop from police piccadilly; azsa nails the addictive and catchy articulation in his pronunciation. chorus feels like you're riding or moving or soaring. matches the more stylish EDM vibes of the beginning of the album -- kokuseki, lotus, black out.
- paranoia (azsagawa & yunosuke) - starting with yunosuke and ending with yunosuke. hearing "nerve" before to get a style for azsa's own songwriting style, you can hear azsa's influence in yunosuke's style here. back to the stylish EDM bops but it's a bit more textured or complex here. really cements the vibes of the album as a good ending song; once again, they work really nicely together. the song ends on a pleasant chord. emotionally ties things up really nicely and beautifully from the preceding intensity of koibana - kiminodoku - mirage - yudotou - nerve. it almost sounds like a sendoff or ED song in some ways? so yeah it works well as the album's ender. although not the best album ender in existence imo (that goes to arcadia in joucho's "creation")
okay that's all i'm insane i love azsa

P1harmony's discography ranking
Top 31-38 | Top 21-30 | Top 11-20 | Top 1-10
Disclaimer: this is just my opinion and i made this for fun! it was actually difficult to make this ranking because i literally love their every song.... if you disagree (and you probaby will lol), i'm glad to know your opinion! and if you agree that means you're just as cool as me 😎
Top 31-38:
31. Super chic - i didn't know people don't like this one? for me it's a cute little song that stucks in your head and you're happy about it (but it does give h&m vibes)
32. Bop - i feel neutral about this one idk. i loove the verses in this (intak's one is so...... yes king eat your mandu) but the chorus feels empty...
33. Before the dawn - i was genuinely shocked that this song ended up so low 😭 i love its structure and lyrics and the way it's a ballad but it's so powerful and the way it's a whole story and the chorus is different in the end because the story progresses and and- but for me, in order to listen to this song, i have to be in a certain mood to truly appreciate it, and this specific mood is really really rare
34. Siren - don't get me wrong, it's a great debut!! but imo it doesn't stand out as much as their other tts (like, i don't think i'd show siren to someone who haven't heard a single song from piwon yk). and it took me a lot of relistens to understand why people love it so much (sorry😭)
35. Different song for me - i feel about this one practically the same as about Better Together but!! "bright day moody song" part..... ate
36. Follow me - this was made to be played at concerts to hype up the crowd, and while during their concerts the energy when they perform Follow Me is insane (based on the videos i've seen), this song always sends me back to like 2018ish when dubstep was popular and it's not really my vibe
37. Better together - i'm actually surprised it turned out so low because i like it! but i kinda forget it exists and then once in a while i listen to it and think "oh, it's a nice song!" and then i forget again and the cycle continues....
38. Peacemaker - first thing i gotta say - the dance practice to it????? i'm ready to watch this shit day and night it's so beautiful!! but this song always gives me disney movie ending vibes... and while i wouldn't say i dislike the song, i don't think i ever had an urge to turn it on.

Note
have you listened to the jesc songs? which is your favourite??
I HAVE NOT BUT I SHOULD. you know what. i'm gonna listen to them in the bus and you'll get my live opinion on them:
-Albania (Bota ime - Viola Gjyzeli): Love the harmonies! It really sounds like an esc Albanian song huh. Very epic and such.
-Armenia (Do it my way - Yan Girls): OH LOVE THE VIBES FOR THIS ONE!!! GIRLBAND GOODNESS !!! Also I love they still sing in Armenian even if there's bits of English there :) I am sure it has a sick choreography but alass i'm hearing them on spotify
-Estonia (Hoiame Kokku - ARHANNA): ooooh this one sounds so powerful!!! Love the chorus with the two voices! It's definitely a serious topic, sounds like it has a strong message
-France (Cœur - Zoé Clauzure): I am sadly not inmune to french singing. It just sounds too good I have no option but to stan 😔. Oh that little 'ay ay ay' in the chorus is so familiar to me but I couldn't tell you why. The high notes !!!!
-Georgia (Over The Sky - Anastasia & Ranina): I was sad the song started in English but now they're singing in Georgian which :) THE HARMONIES !!!!! THE LITTLE SCREAMING PARTS !!!!!
-Germany (Ohne worte - Fia): Uuu I really like her voice. It sounds kinda school? I don't know how to explain it. Not much else to say tho, the song is fairly simple. Not that it's a bad thing tho.
-Ireland (Aisling - Jessica McKean): Is that Irish I'm hearing ????? If it is big slay from Ireland in jesc exactly !!! If it's not I'm so sorry I cannot understand anything </3 Nevertheless, love her voice and how whispery it is!
-Italy (Un mondo giusto - Melissa, Ranya): OHHH THAT RASPY VOICE ONE OF THEM HAS !!!! INSANE !!!! It's sounds so epic !!! Why do they sing parts in English tho :( The chorus is insane !!!
-Malta (Stronger - Yulan): This one also sounds pretty epic, I can see this one playing in the radios. Love the voice as well. That last part !!!! And the highs !!!
-Netherlands (Holding on To You - Sep & Jasmijn): Love to hear Dutch! It sounds so good in song !!! Uuuu love the vibes with this one honestly!!! THE BEAT OH MY GOD IT'S SUCH A BOP
-North Macedonia (Kazi Mi, Kazi Mi Koj - Tamara Grujeska): We love a Balkan ballad exactly !!!! She has such a beautiful voice! Quick question is it a requirement for a percentage of the song to be in English??? Cause tons are mixing English in there and I cannot say I love it. Anyways. Classic Balkan ballad with folk elements, what's not to love honestly.
-Poland (I Just Need a Friend - Maja Krzyzewska): wait why is this one so depressing ??? a very pretty voice tho. it's just very :( the bridge is cute
-Portugal (Where I belong - Júlia Machado): her voice singing in portuguese is quite possibly the cutest thing i've ever heard omg 😭 too much English tho :( once again her portuguese is sooooo
-Spain (Loviu - Sandra Valero): okay polyglot queen I see you !! These lyrics are so cute actually 🤧 in general the song is so cute!!! You were not wrong this song is actually good :)
- Ukraine (Kvitka - Anastasia Dymyd): ooooh I do love me an ethnic song yesss!!! Love the beat for this one! THE SCREAM!!!
-UK (Back to life - STAND UNIQU3): This one is also super radio friendly. And is this another girlband??? Cause if then massive slay for them! The tune is catchy enough
OKAY CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW EVERYONE (EXCEPT I GUESS MALTA) SUNG IN THEIR LANGUAGES ???? EVEN IRELAND ???? WHY DOESN'T THIS HAPPEN IN ESC
anyways. after this first listen I think my favourite is Netherlands! of course as with esc the scenography and live vocals are quite important so this might change. but yeah. for now Netherlands is the one for me :)

Aqours: Midnight Hour
(Top 6 Favorite Tracks [Aika Kobayashi])
[Written on October 25, 2023]
It has only been a couple days since Aikyan turned 30, but as I'm blasting her discography, why not share my favorite songs from this gifted vocal powerhouse.
------
Tumblr media
--------
(DISCLAIMER: This list is my personal opinion. My decisions are based on overall music components (arrangement, lyrics, composition, etc.) as well as interests. Do not be offended if your favorite is not mentioned. Once again, "my" "personal" "opinion". ) With that out of the way, let's get into my picks!
6. Holiday!! (syzygy)
Not gonna lie; this is quite a catchy song coming from last year's EP. The pop rock vibe fits Kyan's energy just enough to leave an impression. There is a nice breakdown before the final chorus that highlights her other strong suit: hip-hop; although it isn't as prominent as in "Gimme the mic, gimme the light". Still, I prefer Holiday!! over that due to better arrangement, but by a slight margin.
5. ゆらゆらら (NO LIFE CODE)
If there is one thing Aikyan pulls off well, it is putting enough effort in her vocal performances to convince listeners to groove along. My favorite from her [NO LIFE CODE] EP, " ゆらゆらら" provides just the right amount of bop and catchy lyrics to shuffle back and forth after hard or depressing times. It is such an infectious melodic ride you cannot possibly resist.
4. Border Rain (Gradation Collection)
I'm a sucker for ballads, whether or not it has "power". For as long as I listened to all of Aqours seiyuus' solo discographies, Aikyan leaves the most impression on me with her powerful, soul-driven vocals. Thus, I had to include this song, which repeatedly continues to throw punches to my feels every time I hear it. The arrangement compliments her vocals to a point it amplifies the tone of the song. However, it isn't as memorable as #3; another ballad with an MV that captures Aikyan in a much more atmospheric level.
3. 空は誰かのものじゃない (Gradation Collection)
Used as an insert/ED song for the anime "Farewell, My Dear Cramer", "空は誰かのものじゃない" ( roughly translates to "The Sky Doesn't Belong to Anyone") seamlessly blends Aikyan's vocal flexibility along with a beautiful score that could leave you in tears (although I haven't done so yet).

(If you have time, check out the MV to get the full effect).
2. Sunset Bicycle (Tough Heart)
🎵...Da-la-da-da-dee-dee-ya
da-la-da-da-dee-ya
Da-la-da-da-dee-dee-ya
LA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA🎵
Of course, I'd put this high on my list. IT'S SO CHILL AND LAIDBACK, like riding a bicycle towards a heartwarming sunset after a long day. The first time hearing it, I was so out of it just from Kyan's softer yet sensual soulful vocals. The lyrics are also bilingual so forgive me if I immediate--
🎵I DON'T KNOW WHY I FEEL SO FINE
HEY IT DOESN'T MATTER...🎵
Tumblr media
(I can't help it. This song's an earworm).
Anyways, this is her strongest song out of her second EP; definitely worth listening to if you are in the mood for a bit of J-Pop/R&B flare.
----------------
Usually, I would have an Honorable Mention, but the only track out of her whole career that barely makes it in is actually one of the most unusual songs to have the most nonsensical lyrics cross my mind.
I kid you not. This song is so insane, in arrangement and lyrics that I had to sadly omit it for being a bit too...wild? I have no hate for any of her songs but this was the closest to making my list. If you're willing to subject yourself to only words ending in "ru", be my guest.
With that out of the way, let me reveal my #1 pick.
--------
1. Moonlight Balcony (Gradation Collection)
How is this not a collab with Furirin? Riddle me this, Toy's Factory and Purple One Star.
Everything is just stellar with this song.
The score? 60s lounge that I can imagine Kyan in a high-class bar just having a cocktail with Furi.
OH, RIGHT. I FORGOT. THE LYRICS.
The song, according to these lyrics, gives me the impression this is about getting drunk and just wandering around the city in the middle of the night in your own damn mind; having fun under the influence of alcohol. It's so fucking good I can't help but want to mash this with 「 シンデレラタイム」 , but the BPMs are so not even close to be done without clever editing.
(..and no, she literally mentions Cinderella; which is why I'm desperate for this mashup but that's for another time).
The intro portion of the score sucks you into a drunken euphoria and into a whirlwind of wonder and bliss. It may not be the best song to portray her vocals, but sometimes, you don't need a lot to convey this kind of feeling. Thus, I consider Moonlight Balcony my favorite song from Aika Kobayashi.
---
Hopefully, you enjoyed reading my thoughts. There might be a track or so that I overlooked. Was your favorite mentioned?
Which member of Aqours should I tackle next? Leave your comments in a reblog or tags.
Until next time, here's hoping the rest of the year is good to you!

hi malloy i want to listen to more fob do you have any song recommendations?
hellow vic! gosh how do i recommend fob to someone when the discography is so large and varied... hmmmmmm
ok i’ll separate by album so you can like choose what you wanna listen to depending on your style, with one gateway song that i think is a good intro to it and a personal fav
under the cut because i got carried away (like seriously i ended up writing a paragraph for each album 💀) but there are eight albums so sixteen recs for you👍
malloy’s crash course in fob albums + what to listen to first
take this to your grave — their first official album, a pop punk staple, extremely pop punk very clearly showing their hardcore roots:
gateway song: grand theft autumn/where is your boy (teehee its my url song but also i believe every person dipping their toes into the scene needs to listen to this song. it’s that iconic)
a fav that u should also listen to: saturday (this song means a lot to the band! they close every single show with it! and also it goes off!!)
from under the cork tree — the breakthrough album, the album with sugar we’re goin down and dance dance, another pop punk staple but now with slightly more pop friendly elements:
gateway song: a little less sixteen candles a little more “touch me” (another hit single and also just. a bop. an absolute bop)
a fav that u should also listen to: the music or the misery (this one isnt even on the actual album it’s technically an additional track from a deluxe edition. however i think it’s going to be in my spotify top 5 this year. the hook goes SO hard)
infinity on high — probably the most popular among fans? ive already said this album is insane it had such a perfect mix of their pop punk sound with stuff like soul, r&b, horns and violins… fucking insane. this is the one with bang the doldrums:
gateway song: i’m like a lawyer with the way i’m always trying to get you off (mmm i feel like i can eat this song it’s so comfy and easy to get into)
a fav that u should also listen to: i’ve got all this ringing in my ears and none on my fingers (OUGH. the orchestrations.. the piano!! the horns!!! patrick’s ba ba ba ba ba ba ba da da during the bridge. a banger.)
folie à deux — this one goes hard. it was a very different album so there were a lot of people who hated it when it first came out but now it’s commonly agreed that it’s one of their best!! folie is like ioh with the experimentation turned up even more with lyrical focus on criticizing the media and celebrity culture among other things and it is cool ✨:
gateway song: she’s my winona (catchy as hell, i’ve always thought it was the best track to introduce someone to folie)
a fav that u should also listen to: america’s suitehearts (my fob tag (#you don’t don’t know you’re a legend) is lyrics from this song. it is. really fun to sing to and the music video is wonderfully trippy)
save rock and roll — first post-hiatus album! these next three are very different from the previous albums, way more pop than pop punk. srar itself is what i can only describe as an album that sounds so 2013 radio pop rock sometimes feel like i’ve regressed 10 years and the next song i’m going to listen to is counting stars by onerepublic. this is the album with my songs know what you did in the dark. album still slaps tho. fun fact they made a movie out of it which has elton john:
gateway song: alone together (top tier example of a 2013 pop song tbh. pop done wonderfully. wowzaz)
a fav that u should also listen to: where did the party go? (the bass… the synth… the delivery of the lyrics… this was the song that convinced me to relisten to save rock and roll and really get into it)
american beauty/american psycho — people call this one sports commercial/stadium rock music and honestly yeah. yeah. this one had not only centuries but immortals from the big hero six movie. i’m like split down the middle on this album because half i simply cannot care about but the other half goes really hard fav after fav so:
gateway song: fourth of july (*cackling* (this is the other song people heavily associate with mikey way) but seriously this one can wreck you)
a fav that u should also listen to: the kids aren’t alright (this one will wreck you. genuinely? lyrics of all time.)
mania — my fav ✨😌 though polarizing among fans because this album is the furthest from pop punk theyve ever gone; it’s experimental pop rock/electropop. but i love it to pieces its clear themes of changing yourself for better or worse and looking back at how things used to be and knowing that you’ve survived and redemption through love drive me insane. ough:
gateway song: the last of the real ones (a single. it bops and its lyrics are wonderful. the piano is iconic)
a fav that u should also listen to: sunshine riptide (SONG OF ALL TIME!!! idk if it’s still my fav but damn i love it so much. beach vibes. a summer song. banger hook. vocals that make me feral.)
so much (for) stardust — THE RETURN ALBUM! came out in march :D “a return to their roots” everyone says, mirroring folie in its rock/pop punk sounding base with funk, soul and even disco influences? insane. absolutely insane:
gateway song: hold me like a grudge (the funky bass is enough for me to die happy tbh this is such a silly bop. yeag this was the song with the lyric fanfic writers were clamouring over (“part time soulmate, full time problem”))
a fav that u should also listen to: what a time to be alive (they made a fucking earth wind and fire song about the fucking pandemic and it is kinda their best song ever)
