#it's FICTION

I'm seeing the discourse and you know a show is doing something right and necessary when the bastions of virtue, the last remaining pure souls in the planet, the lord's most pious lambs are feeling pressed with a non-manichean infidelity plot.
People keep asking for more complex characters and stories, but the moment they appear some immediately turn their noses — stick to your sanitized, cookie cutter shows, don't bother the grown-ups.
#when it rains it pours#unsolicited opinions#and at the end of the day they are there watching it still#it's fiction#if you see people cheating on a tv show and feel inclined to do the same in real life...#the problem is all yours...

Been reading a lot of Batman fic lately and it's weird to me that— Okay, not that weird. I think I get it, just—
"It is good and empowering for kids/teenagers to go fight bad guys if they feel it's necessary" feels like a significant underlying assumption of much of the source material, like "[these particular kinds of] aliens exist" and "magic is real" and "vigilantism is a good idea". These are things you need to suspend your disbelief about in order to enjoy the source material.
I understand why someone might find the kid heroes thing harder to suspend disbelief on; you can reframe it into a statement applicable to the real world which is a problem if a lot of people believe it ("it's fine to endanger kids/benefit from their labor if they agree to it"). But—
In the setting, "being able to fight bad guys" is often equivalent to "being a person with power and autonomy". In the setting, "It is acceptable for kids/teenagers to go fight bad guys if they feel it's necessary" is equivalent to "kids/teenagers should have power and autonomy". Is this something you want anyone concluding in the real world? No, of course not. But this is fiction.
I don't know, it feels like getting hung up on Aragorn's tax policy, to some extent? Or going to a burger place and complaining the menu is full of burgers?
#unsolicited fandom opinions#i was on a farscape message board back in the day#and someone asked how scapers who were pro-gun control reconciled that with the characters using guns#and a lot of people provided reasonable arguments about how the circumstances are extremely different etc#but really i think the answer is#i assume about the same way you reconcile with 'okay we've now become nuclear terrorists'#it's FICTION

One of my favourite arguments is the "Buck and Eddie can't get together because of fraternization "
Like I don't think the show with a beenado would care about that
#911 abc#evan buckley#eddie diaz#buddie#also as someone who regularly reads fanfic for ships where the power dynamics are much more stronger#i don't care abour fraternizatiom#it's fiction

this seems dangerously close to perpetuating violent egg culture
Judging by the timing of this post, I take it that Mike Wazowski was a bridge too far for you.

Just wondering, folks. Have you ever considered, with all the lives and thoughts in Rogue's head, she's lived centuries more than him? I mean, since that seems to be an extremely large part of the argument I'm seeing. I just don't understand. No one argues about this with pretty much every other character set out there. Thor/Quite a few of the Terrans he's loved, Steve/Anyone that is from the Silent Generation (Pre-1928) and on, RoLo, Mystique/Maybe anyone and everyone at this point, IDK how old she is. Or...

Just saw a post where someone was complaining about dagcup and vigcup and calling it weird because Dagur calls Hiccup brother and Viggo is, quote, "so much older than Hiccup." They also apparently think Dagur and Hiccup are actually brothers? Idrk that part wasn't clear.
... Now, when I say it took every damn bone in my stubborn, opinionated, autistic body to not "well, actually" that post... Especially since one of the hashtags was "this is not a safe space for those shippers."
Just... You can not like something or not understand the appeal of the dynamic, but don't call or imply that the people who do like it are weird or creepy. It's fiction. Nobody is actually getting hurt, and nobody really cares. Let people have fun. I'm so sick of this debate.
#coming from a person who will ship literally anything to explore the dynamic#httyd#kinda vent#i'm just so done#let people have fun#it's fiction#bouta go ship viggo and mala as retaliation#not what i wanted to see at 7:30am

I saw your tags about Once, and that's the one thing I don't like about large casts: the crackshipping. I utterly despise it. Have I done it before? Sure, upon initial meeting, especially if there's witty banter. But once it's clear theyre not going to be pursued, I'll stop. Take for example, in season 1, I was into Elendil and Galadriel. He seemed amused by her, and they even had fun and rode horses side by side. However, once he disavowed her after the battle, it was time to end it. I turned my attention to Haladriel in the finale.
Sorry, anon. But I'm all for rare pairs, crack ships, and so on. I don't really care about canon/endgame as long as the relationship is treated with respect.
Shipping should be fun! We should just keep remembering it.
Ship and let ship! There's no right or wrong. No moral. Ground. Just what you enjoy and what you don't 🤷♀️
And welcome into the Haladriel fandom! We do have fun most of the time 😂
#ship and let ship#I don't what is so difficult about it#If we don't like/agree with something we can just ignore it#Also there's no right/wrong ship#it's fiction#the rings of power#rings of power#rop#trop#lotr rings of power#galadriel#halbrand#haladriel#sauron#saurondriel

you know you can enjoy a silly little rpf pair even when they're in real relationships with other people. did we forget what the F actually stands for?
#we all joke and have fun about knowing the truth#and actually it's real person facts#but it's not#it's fiction#it's pretend#it's make believe#their real relationships have no effect on your rpf pair#some may even say add them in for more fun#but that's just me and and the GC i guess

2024: The Year of Blocking
I keep coming across more and more posts that are attacking the members of fandoms, not characters or ships. I don't know who needs to hear this, but I'm hoping it's the encouragement people need:
It's okay to block those people and move on.
Don't waste time on a defense, whether it comes from a place rooted in facts (such as differences in customs or even simple psychology) or simply your feelings on a matter (such as your need for escape from the horrors taking place in the world). You don't owe the people an explanation. It is not your job to educate people, even in matters of basic compassion. More importantly, most of the people are not receptive even if you do feel the urge to educate.
There are other members of the fandom that will be more than happy to accept you! You will meet so many amazing people with similar interests! Chase your happiness.

"you can't ship them" yes i can and i will, cause this is fiction. if you can't tell the difference between fiction and reality, it's not my fault.

90% of people in this fandom are adults that don't need my approval over every theory and opinion they come up with.
Even if they agree with me and share the same opinion and theories as I do, it doesn't mean I brainwashed them. That idea is ridiculous to me they're adults they are able to make up their own minds based on what they read and form their own thoughts. No one has to come back to me to seek approval over what they say. I'm not babying an entire fandom of adults.
If that's how some of you function then that's a "You" problem, doesn't mean you can project on others but carry on I ultimately don't care I just find it ridiculous.
#fandom bs#imagine questioning the intelligence of an entire group of people#because you think one person can brainwash full grown adults#rather than the fact that this is a fandom of a fictional series#where people can share similar theories and thoughts#because they're reading the same damn books#dear friends it's never that deep#it's fiction#we love and resonate with these characters and stories#but it's fiction it has no real life implications

People who get genuinely upset that other people like villains are baffling. They're fictional characters! Who have done fictional things to other fictional people! I literally don't care if you, personally, only enjoy morally virtuous characters. Whatever floats your boat. But acting like that makes you morally superior is just so, so silly.
#it's FICTION#it's okay i swear lmao#if it's not hurting real love people#it's chill#it's perfectly fine
