headcanon style bc i am exhausted of writing and prob Will be for a while. at least w glitchy specifically. i hope this is good cuz' it's mostly me detailing my brainthoughts abt how glitchy could hypothetically escape in more detail.

♡ i like to think the reader in this case-scenario gives glitchy a much needed hope and desire to escape his game, which he didn't previously have bc he's definitely THOUGHT about it but he's like... too scared of change to actually try it despite how horrible his game is, i'd think. he's used to being constantly tormented and wouldn't know how to adapt. at least, that's the excuse he uses. he's also afraid that if he succeeded he'd literally glitch out of existence and "die" since yk, game glitches or characters aren't supposed to take physical form in real life because they're pieces of code.

♡ but once he meets you and you talk of everything in your world and you show him genuine care, you make glitchy realize he wants to be there and experience those things, and that maybe change wouldn't be so bad. after all, it'd definitely be better than the constant hellscape he's living in. even if he "died" in the way that he fears, it'd probably be better than living endlessly in his game. ...probably.

♡ as such, he tries to find a way to escape his game. the thing about that? way easier said than done. he has a lot of ideas, but a lot of them sound stupid.

♡ he still tries the stupid ideas because he knows full well that he himself is something that is not supposed to happen or exist, so he'd assume the games fucked up enough that the stupid ideas might also work. who knows. his existence isn't logical, him getting out of the game doesn't have to be either. that's his logic, anyways - it's not like he's supposed to be a physically existing being, either.

♡ some ideas he has consist of screwing with his weird dream powers, because he can usually affect peoples real bodies with them... so he can probably find a way to manifest through that, right?

♡ or maybe screwing around with the glitches in his game... a classic missingno to try and manipulate code, messing with the safari zones various quirks, hell, maybe he could break the game so bad that it somehow gives in to his desires and gives him an out through the broken mess of code while it collapses in on itself...

♡ he's afraid to try all of these because it'll probably make things way worse if it fails, and he never likes willingly interacting with the monstrous glitches in his game, but hey, you can't get much worse than the state the games already in. and if you can, he's almost definitely seen it, or seen worse.

♡ or maybe he could use a porygon...? but that'd be stupid, it's only code in a game, it couldn't possibly be Actually Able to do anything from being a pokemon said to be made from "programming code" could it...?

♡ ... which may or may not work. like i said, he isn't supposed to exist, but he does. any way he can exit the game can be similarly unlogical, barely explainable, and stupid, i feel.

♡ the most "logical" way to make glitchy a physical form is to make a robot that has a cartridge slot and slot it in and glitchys programming just takes it over and controls its autonomy and transfers his consciousness into it or something. but that requires you to have pretty deep knowledge of programming and AI and robotics for that to be executed well so. y'know.

♡ the other less logical way... but it still makes sense is like. him using someone as a vessel. he has dream powers. dreams are connected to consciousness, specifically your unconscious, and your thinking and your brain and stuff like that. if he cared enough, he could probably easily take over someone's entire - or most of - their body this way. although i do not think and also hope you don't have a human sacrifice laying around, and glitchy would not willingly take this from you either. even if it was someone who wronged him, he'd probably still feel too cruel abt it.

♡ it'd also probably have to have a very good antivirus bc i feel like inserting glitchys cartridge into anything has a possible chance to make said piece of technology fuck up real bad

♡ anyways.

♡ every time he fails or the method doesn't work out correctly, it pisses him off, but he's always been persistent. he treks forward even though it feels hopeless, sometimes.

♡ this quickly becomes a lesson in futility and he gets more and more frustrated every time he turns up with a failed attempt, and it sometimes makes his game even more glitchy and broken. but eventually. eventually he gets there.

♡ regardless of the way he gets out of the game, when he finally escapes and manifests in your world, he's probably just in your room or wherever you left the gameboy. or whatever you're playing his game on.

♡ he either crawls out through the screen, appears after a flash of convenient blinding light, or he forms out of glitching light from the cartridge or something like the cartridge is his gem from steven universe or something.

♡ maybe he'd still have to take a few days to gain an actual physical body in the real world, and he's basically a hologram or hallucination for a while. or maybe he can physically interact, but mostly just with your body and a few select items. he's also, as you can expect, still glitchy constantly IRL. maybe less when he's happy, but that never goes away. his glitches are like scars - they might get better and "heal" but they're always sort of there.

♡ i think it's also funny if before he gains the ability to physically interact he's basically only viewable to you for a while until he gains more physicality. he's using your subconscious to make him a form! by making you will his image into existence and into the collective unconscious!! or something!!! Nobody knows how the hell it works and it also depends on which way you think he would've escaped. highly interpretable and all that.

♡ regardless. he is mostly happy and safe and with you now. glitchy can be pretty smart and think quickly when he wants to, and this was a big example of it. he just really needs the hope and passion to drive himself forward, since he lost his hope and passion... prettttyy long ago, after his world got glitchy and broken. he didn't see a point to much anything and was very existential and all.

♡ so! you gave him that drive and motivation. not an easy thing to do. be proud of yourself. i hope you like him btw he's very clingy and won't leave your side for a good while.

I'm flattered that you're even asking me this question.

I honestly have no specific way of writing! (not that I'm aware of at least). I kind of feel like my writing is forever changing. When I wrote 'neteyam's first rut' (first post) I had the idea in my head for like days. One night I was like 'I literally can't keep this in my head any longer'. So I wrote it out, in no specific way/style of writing and did a quick proofread and decided:

"hey, why not post this shit? lol people probably won't even see it. and then i won't have this filthy smut in my hard drive for people to find when i'm dead (not even joking, this was literally what was going through my head.)"

But since I feel like my writing has changed a bit, hopefully not too drastically or out of character. Of course I've also gotten a little more comfortable on this site, too. :)

My experience with writing goes back to high school and university. I majored in a 'soft science', as they like to call it. Did tons and tons of research papers (way too fucking many to give it a number). So all I can really say about that is the more you write the easier it becomes - kind of like a muscle memory? Eventually it just flows out of you. Also reading. Reading helps ya know, the more you read the more you're exposed to other styles of writing, vocabulary, the whole shabang. Like @lovemyavatar, I love her style of writing, literally obsessed (and she knows it, hehe.)

I'd say write when you're motivated, inspired - driven. Or else it'll kind of dull the sparkle and take the fun out of it (wasn't fun writing any of those papers). So when an idea pops up, just go for it. Don't even think about grammar, vocabulary, etc. Just get that shit out of your system. You can always go back, fix any errors, and change things up - switch out a word with another, rephrase a sentence (or a paragraph or two), change up the plot - whatever you see fit. If I'm mid-washing the dishes and I get an idea I'll stop and make a quick voice note or a note in my phone.

As for starting and finishing, hmm. These are good questions, because I kind of feel like there's no standard or set way to start or finish literature. It all depends on what you're writing about and what your intentions are with it. What are you trying to portray? How do you want the reader to feel? What tense do you want to write in/most appropriate? What's your plot, if any? Where does it take place? What tone of voice do you want to use? How do you plan to differentiate the characters? I like to imagine the character's voice in my head actually saying the phase, or ask myself if Neteyam/Lo'ak would really say this.

For example I did a double POV for the first time, and when researching about it the article said "...you should be able to flip to a random page, read a couple sentences, and know which character is speaking." Which is so true. So I tried to keep that in mind, and focus on the characters development and make their voices more distinct.

I read a Lo'ak one-shot on here and a lot of people (including me) wanted a part two - I'm assuming so we could get some sort of closure/feel better/happy ending. But, the authors intention was to portray him in a dark light - to hurt the reader so to speak. So well-written and I really love their other work, too.

As for smut 👀. I'm honestly still new to this so I'm learning as I go. I love to consume smut so that has definitely helped - seeing other people and what terms and vocabulary they use. Overall, I just try to be very descriptive, so that the reader can really immerse themselves into the scene and feel what their character is supposed to be feeling. I try not to go overboard with the words though, because that can take away from it at times. For example, I wrote about a fight scene with Neteyam and Auzo (in 'with my life') and I kept it short and simple - "He throws a punch to his jaw, knocking him off his feet." type of shit.

I also do some research (lool thought I was done with the research life). My google searches are riddled with "synonym for..." "how to describe [this action] in writing". No shame in doing your research. There are a few blogs on this site that actually help out in regards to basic knowledge of coitus, cunnilingus, fellatio etc. as well as other sites, too! They list descriptive words, alternatives to 'she said' (lool i eat those up), other do's and don'ts.

And of course, I do some research about the na'vi. I try to make it somewhat realistic, especially with the fic I posted 'with my life' (longest one to date). I did some deep digging on their website about the 'first blood' ritual, and just other simple information about the flora and fauna of the planet.

This is my favourite source of information for smut.

Out of all the sources I've read, this is the best one so far. If I'm ever in a stump, or I feel like I need a better fitting word - I'll refer to this. This author also includes some really good points about sex, down to first times, anal - the whole works.

Deuce in middle school was a lot different then how he acts now at Night Raven, and everybody who had heard about his past had known that, but there was one thing that always made him think about changing into an honor student even before his mother said anything, and that was (name). Growing up (name) was always very sheltered by their parents and never really got out much but when Deuce's mom started working with (name's) parents, they were finally able to have an actual friend. Deuce and (name) grew up like two peas in a pod most of the time, and spent almost all the time they could get together, well together! Then comes Middle school both (name) and Deuce had changed a lot, (Name) was a lot less sheltered and got into a lot more trouble and it didn't help that their partner in crime was Deuce Spade, one of the really well know delinquents in the school. They together were a forced to be recond with, but when Deuce found out about his mother and how she felt that she was a terrible mother because of the way her son was, he immediately rethought about what he was doing. As much as he wanted to impress (name) and wanted to have something to talk about with them, this was his mother and his future, and so with that when the carriage came to pick him up for Night raven he left all that in the past.

Then a couple months later the spelldrive tournament comes on and lots of different school come from all over to see the matches between the dorms at Night Raven and between the Spelldrive team at NRC and RSA. That's when Deuce had saw (Name) again, it was the first time since he had told them on the last day of school that he needed to take a break from there friendship and he needed to start working on grades and building up his future. After the games he went to try to find you through the crowds of people but you found him first tapping him on the shoulder, you looked different from when he left to come to NRC, a lot less of your "delinquent nature" but some of it was still there, it's not that easy to just give up your past and who you once were. You talked for a little before he finally couldn't help himself anymore and confessed.

i've been having an itch to write an if game, do you have any tips? i feel like its a very bad idea to jump straight in head first yk?

Ooh 👀 Well, I don't think I'm the most qualified but I can share my experience! I discovered choicescript a few years ago and that's the only coding format I know (Twine makes me cry), but I've only started writing with it like ~2 years ago, and I did jump straight in.

It was, in fact, a bad idea lol 😭 This will be quite rambly so I'll put in under a cut!

I'd say first thing to do is not start out with the project you have in mind if you're not familiar with the format, because it might burn you out or you won't necessarilly find it easy to put it together. Play around with things, write even only a few random scenes, just to taste the waters. I lost interest in my first WIP because i sucked at writing and coding it and it made me lose motivation!

Also, if you're using choicescript, there's the COG forum to help with some specifics code lines! I personnally don't like the forum but you don't need an account to read it and there's a search option. That's a nice resort if you struggle. Reading the wiki and their introduction first is what I did so I had a (very fragile and wonky) base, and then I added to it depending on what I needed.

Also I started writing by following the kinda old instructions of choicescript, aka in a note logiciel on my computer, where lines went on forever 😭It was a pain, so I use CS-IDE now, it makes coding and testing much easier. Basically play around and find what works the best for you. If something doesn't work even after you use it for a bit, it may be worth to find another app/editor/organisation. Personally I write scenes in another app, when's there's a choice to make I outline the possible options and then I copy and paste it in CS-IDE to code.

If you want to use Twine, there are a lot of very talented authors that put up lists of ressources and help! I think you can find them easily on Tumblr. And the IF community is pretty nice, and most people are okay to give out help if you ask for it. Lots of supports around here.

And also, there's the basic advice for all kind of writers. Don't give into pressure, it's okay if things aren't perfect. If a choice branching gives you trouble, you can always leave a placeholder and come back after. Bugs are really common, and most readers understand it.

Honestly it's easier when you have fun with it. I like putting choices that don't do much but give a little insight about characters. I like writing prompts on Tumblr because I can write characters that don't appear for a while. When I get unmotivated I go on Pinterest or Spotify to make boards or playlists. I have lists of fun facts. I think that's why it's best to have a sort of "test" project, so that the struggle can be contained at least a bit and then you can have fun with the story you like most and whose characters you know best.

It'll flow easier. And if doesn't work out, you can give it a rest, revive it later or start anew with another story.

I didn't vote because I am not a poc but since we're on the topic of reader insert: the one thing I felt a bit uncomfortable with was "your mom's name" when reaper was visiting her mom. I personally don't have an issue imagining myself as an oc persona such as a ripped reaper but my mom is so nice and that part bugged me. For example, I feel like parents' names shouldn't be inserted or mentioned at all. OR give them a random name at the beginning as a starter disclaimer. Just a personal thought. Everything else is very much well thought through. Kudos as always 😉

so the issue that was brought up from the poll was solved here, but i have so far not gotten a response for the "not good" answer. i suppose it could have been a misclick or perhaps someone just wanted to see the answers and didn't read the title first, but if there was an issue (or issues) that caused them to genuinely pick that answer, i'd love to be able to fix it!

some general notes when it comes to writing a race-neutral mc:

don't describe showers (or really, certain morning/night routines); it's important because a lot of people don't wash their hair every day. whether it be for preference, for hair type, or for how they wear their hair, it can be alienating to detail every shower as "washing your hair."

this mistake was actually corrected in the tagged post-- but be aware of how some skin scars! it had slipped my mind that not all scarring ends up pinkish-- it'll just be a dimmer version of the person's skin tone.

don't use major descriptors for hair. "billowing in the wind," "[your ponytail] pulled at your scalp," "curling around the face." all of these can be linked to a certain hair type, usually.

when describing skin, use vague terms. for example "the light from the shades dappled across your skin," instead of "the light sheened off your pale skin."

"your cheeks grew pink," "your face went red," can't always be applied to people with darker skin tones. but yk what can? growing physically warm, sweating, getting goosebumps, or feeling rushes of adrenaline! if you're gonna write something fluffy, make sure everyone gets included.

sometimes eyebags aren't easily seen, either. a lack of melanin means the purple under the lids sticks out more, but eyebags are also sometimes visible with creases, puffiness under the eyes, or a slight droop.

don't go into major detail with facial features. when describing reaper's facial scarring, i keep it general and try not to describe how lips look, whether freckles are cut up from the scarring, etc.

also, when i talk about reaper's mask, i don't talk much about her nose. obviously, larger noses might stick out more from the base of the mask, but plenty of people have flattened noses, so that wouldn't really work. instead, i used a general description (not verbatim) "fits perfectly to your nose."

bonnets and durags! people wear them all the time! in the house, out of the house, but for sleeping, too! mention them as an option for your readers to better immerse them.

really try to remember, especially as a white person, that most fanfics (intended or not) use white people as a default. there're probably a lot of people who will enjoy your fic more if they can see themselves in place of the mc. if you don't sit back, reread your chapter and think "yeah, i could picture anyone in this position" (unless the fic is specified to be black!reader x character or something of the variation), you might want to change it up.

I used to start writing stories as a kid (many a few pages that I started but never continued) and even though I never finished them, it made me so happy. I think I'd like to explore the storyteller in me from a new place; not as a dancer.

All the writing that I end up doing now is for school. I'm typically not one to boast but I will say that my written responses and essays are reallll fucking good. And even with fighting my own brain trying to write for those assignments (anxiety, depression, adhd yall do NOT make it easy) I still Love writing those essays. I have Fun writing those essays

I say I don't have free time but I do manage to find time to rest. Usually though resting just ends up being laying in bed all day watching some show on my laptop. And then I feel shitty (physically and mentally) that I haven't done something more productive. Not productive like "you should've deep cleaned the entire apartment on your first day off in three in a half weeks" but like "hey girl could you just maybe do something that involves some healthy brain stimulation? pls??" I think this would be a good outlet yk healthy for my brain and my body

I'd really like to be able to share something of mine with the folks here I admire

Going off of #4, I have such a hard time sharing my art online but sadly my career path kind of depends on my ability to do that. I have yet to a really clean, simple answer of how to overcome that--at least they haven't been routes I've felt I could make myself do (I'm very stubborn). This however might be a good way for me to practice and build this skill, in a place where my career, My Dream isn't at stake.

Will the upside down be a thing that happened? I'm guessing no. But if it is then ofc this man survives -as he should as he should-

Eddie has finally graduated ('86 baby <3). He has another 6 months-a year afterwards working every moment he can and saving every penny. He finally leaves Hawkins (would need to write some sad shit with leaving Wayne ofc but yk maybe in a later chapter as a little flashback) for [SOME BIG CITY - i have some choices but it depends on details about Reader i haven't given thought to yet]. He's trying to get into the music scene-- make friends, find some footing, get a consistent gig somewhere if he can. There's a rock night at a local bar he sees a flyer for and there he meets this percussionist who's drumming with a band playing that night. BAM! They're instant friends. IMPORTANT: i headcanon that Eddie also managed to learn to play drums sometime in late middle school/early high school, he doesn't have formal training but can work his way around a drum set. Plot things plot things plot things -> New best friend percussionist has a job with this proffesional dance company as an accompanist; they play for classes and rehearsals and has recently been in talks with the director about their upcoming season because of a new work one of the choreographers will be building. It'll be a lot of workshopping but just conceptually it seems great. The other two accompanists who usually work with the company don't drum though and the choreographer really wants a musical focus on percussion. BestFriend calls Eddie while he's still at the studio speaking with the director and choreographer :)

WELCOME READER!! I'm not sure who exactly she'll be yet but currently mulling over some possibilities: a friend of this choreographer from a previous job who they've asked to help with the choreography? a brand new company member? someone who's danced a couple seasons with the company (corps dancer) and is getting her first larger role? Lots of possibilties but the point is that she's part of the new work too.

And they meet when Eddie comes for his first day-- it's company class in the morning and rehearsal begins later after their lunch break (again it's lots of workshopping, collaborative space, freestyle amongst the dancers as they just get to play around with the music). Eddie is a little entranced by Reader the whole time, and Reader tries to not get flustered and distracted in the middle of learning these movement phrases when she catches him watching her specifically.

Pretty, lovely, dream-like things ensue for them <3

🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

Well....I haven't written anything super crazy yet (I don't think?) but...I'd have to say my "In Relativity" fic, purely because 1.) It's the longest singular fic I have ever written (and finished), taking literally months to write (😭 I pretty much mentally checked out of so many Health 2 classes and was working on that fic instead lmfaooo) and 2.) The amount of scenes I ended up entirely rewriting more than once, some of them altogether scrapped. I'd classify it as a wild ride, in short, because of how much effort it had taken which I'd not yet given to anything I've written....also because I guess....a lot happens in it?? Idk, idt it was that interesting in the end, but it was something meant to be very small and throw-away, which in the end had a lot of thought and such put in, which to me looking back on it, feels like what I'd call a "wild ride" ^^''

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

Themes: Emotional stuff! Like people breaking down or going into their deepest thoughts, their fears, feelings about others...that kinda thing. Also, like...anything that builds on a character. I like the idea of trying to delve deeper into characters that didn't get much in a series, like if we saw glimpses of things but nothing more....I'll take what I interpret those glimpses to be and build on them in the ways I find interesting, I think :D Feels: Like hurt/comfort, yk? Angst but with some kind of "hey, it'll be okay" except for that one optiratch fic but I enjoyed that change of pace ngl as well as like...laughter and joy....idk if that even counts but I'm putting that down. I think back to writing Tales from Iacon stuff and I really like to write those moments of peace and laughter between Orion and Megatronus...thinking about how they ended up....idk. Scenes: I'd kinda just repeat what I said above, since that's about it ^^'' Imagery: I like to talk about lighting a lot?? Like of the sky and such. And...I try to liken certain phrasing to like, drawing stuff when I can. "Painted the edge of his glass" and "drawing upon the gentle heartstrings" and all...I try my best to make vivid imagery a thing in my writing, pointing out as many details of things as possible so you can almost see it (or I can, anyway) as you read. This comes from the books I used to read when I was younger often having huge paragraphs of descriptions and details, which I think has seeped into my writing over time, lessening a little every time since I'm working to be more concise but, well...as you can see here........the progress is slow :'D Also idk where this goes but, subtle movements and expressions characters make since I believe that sentience means little sometimes meaningless things that they do while talking or listening or whatever because we people do them as well....does that make sense?? Idk ;w; but yea!

UHM! oh gee another one! ummmmmm..........idk if it's just me but I think I'm pretty okay at creating good reading pace with my spacing and stuff? Like I'm careful while reading back and I indent a lot because I want to try to ensure the proper pauses between each sentence and movement if there are any so the scene flows to the reader as closely as possible to how I'd read it in my head. Again, that may just be me and anyone who reads my writing might be thinking: what the fresh hell are all these random paragraphs and spaces for jfc and potentially dislike my writing for it.....but my intention is that and imo reading it back, the pauses and flow work very well, usually :]

Matpat

The minute he sees you he's all 🤨👀🧐. He's uh... Not really used to seeing entity's or hybrids or other egos, so sometimes he forgets that not everyone is human. Fully human, anyways.

He's really interested in them, though! (Even if you might take it a different way due to his facial expressions 😭) He mainly wants to study them and understand how they work, but outside of him wanting to know everything about them, he thinks they're really cool! And soft, he sometimes picks up stray feathers that have slipped for them. Is also immediately there if you mention needing help preening. I mean, c'mon! A) their soft, B) you like it and C), he likes it! I don't think he really understands that preening is usually done by uh....yk. Not new friends, let's say.

Probably asks if he can fly with you once and then starts crying the second you're both 0.1 centimeter of the ground 🙄

5/10 very helpful, but also very annoying.

Madpat

"That's cool, now if you don't mind I'm on fire and-" IM JOKING IM JOKI- He's not tho

He thinks they look amazing! He likes the markings/colours on them, and asks you about them.

The only thing he's curious about though is, how do you balance with them? They look very heavy they are and are certainly bigger than you.

As long as you're okay though, he doesn't mind!

He's heard about preening before, but has absolutely no idea what it is exactly or how it works. He reminds you about it daily, though.

He also collects the feathers that fall out, but gives them back to you instead of keeping them. Probably keeps one or two to study them, though.

He won't ever tell you this, but he is very intimated and turned on when he sees your wings stretched out at full height. Just sorta 'eeps' and scuttles away.

He's also very careful with his weapons when he's around you, since he knows that if he swings stuff around too much he could hurt you :(

Probably turns on his chainsaw every now and then and then giggles like the bastard he his when you jump

Stops after the first few times though, since sometimes you knock stuff over with your wings, and also, you have wings. He does not. You will and have suddenly flown of with him as revenge. And he knows you'll do it again.

Mack (crewmate)

You'll definitely know the first time he sees them since it'll be silent and then you'll hear a little "oh!"

He's like a little puppy and just follows you around everywhere, and it's very obvious that he has a lot of questions.

He's too nervous to ask you outright though, probably asking Celci to ask you since he knows that if he asked Mark then Mark would tease him and he'd probably die tbh-

You definitely notice that he's following/staring at you, so sometimes if you stretch n yawn you make sure to stretch your wings full height so he can see.

Also picks up feathers bro why do all of them but instead of waiting till your gone like the others, it'll be a mad scramble to get them before they hit the ground. What can I say, he's a little bit of a germaphobe.

He doesn't really know what they fully feel like, but from what he knows they're very soft and silky, you obviously take good care of them.

His favourite pastime is ruffling them so their all fluffy :)

One day when the two of you are alone you feel him staring for the bazillionth time that day, so you eventually cave and tell him he can touch them if he wants too.

Mack is processing-

When he does, he'll be so excited! And nervous. His hands are probably shaking. Eventually though he melts into it, and actually finds it very relaxing both of you. Probably turns into an accidental preening session.

Mack (Engineer)

Instantly notices, how could he not? He absolutely adores him, but acts as if they're a massive nuisance all of the time (We're not stupid, Mack-)

Cleans up your feathers after you, all the time, even though you haven't asked him too.

Sometimes you shed more on purpose because it's funny to hear him mumble stuff like "If I were Captain, I wouldn't leave feathers all over the place!" Yeah yeah sure, we know you have a big fat crush on-

He really does think they're pretty on you, heck, you always look amazing! But... He does need you to rely on him, and knocking you a peg lower than you already were seems to do the trick :( sorry.

He's not a total monster though (🤨) and he knows how uncomfortable it can be for you to have feathers, since he'll sometimes wake up to heaps of them in your shared bed.

He'll also preen them for you, though he constantly tugs on your collar which can make it annoying.

Sometimes if he wakes up before you, he'll pet them gently. Will instantly scream like a girl and shove you out (and most likely off) the bed when he notices you waking up.

He also likes how they unfold and seem to shelter you two from everyone else when you two are, uh...... 😳Holding....hands...?

^He'll also tug on them if he knows it'll get a reaction out of you

It's not that he'll actually hurt you, it's just a general vibe, and the fact he keeps making little comments that imply he wants to roast and eat you.

He doesn't get social cues though, having lived by himself for so long, so he probably doesn't get that it's coming across that way or why you look so scared 😭

He is super affectionate towards you, practically begging to preen you despite probably having no idea how to do it.

You have to show him 😭 you also do his hair! Bro's been living in a cave for god knows how long, you can't tell me he doesn't have random stuff in it.

He won't keep your feathers, although if you were to give him one he'd do something silly like tuck it behind his ear :)

He calls your name a few times but there's no answer. He's starting to get worried. There are wards on your room so it's not like something could have broken in, but this is,, odd. I don't wanna say that his first thought is 'oh gods they're dead' but he still has some trauma from Rime's death so He's Spooked For You. He has to suck in a breath and count to ten to ground himself.

He makes it to seven before knocking again.

He tries to open the door but finds that he can't. Not because it's locked but because it's,, stuck? The knob won't budge and it's so cold that he snatches his hand off immediately.

It's in something very generously labelled 'blind panic' that he opens a portal, a spell already stinging his fingertips as he prepares to fight Whoever Dares Hurt You

,,, he immediately slips on a patch of ice and face plants

Okay. He scrambles back to his feet and immediately nearly trips again. Luckily he manages to catch himself on your bedpost. Snow and ice cover the ground in patches. And at the farthest part of the room, tucked into the corner, is a trembling and crying MC, air curling from your lips like smoke with every shallow breath you manage.

Once Felix is sure the wards are still in place - and boy does that calm him down a lot - he makes his way over to your side. He's sensed magic from you before but,, nothing like this. By the same token he's never seen you this worked up. He's also never seen your hands, and with the way you're fidgeting them around he notices that you're missing your gloves.

His academic brain goes brrr as he tries to figure it out. Is this magic what the Astrolabe sensed in you? Is this why you've been taking to his lessons so well? Because you have your own potentially massive well of mana?

It's funny, isn't it? The Astrolabes picked both you and Rime. You both have healing magic. You both have ice magic.

'....Shove the thought away, Felix. What happened to Rime won't happen to MC. You won't let it.'

He slowly nudges your shoulder. You jump in surprise, hands curled into tight fists. An icicle stops two or three inches short of his nose. You try to apologize but your voice cracks and squeaks and all you can do is shake your head and press the heels of your hands against your temples and pull your knees to your chest so hard it feels like you can't breathe.

Felix is obviously startled - and who could blame him - but he's not frightened. He asks, in the most genuine and sincere voice you've ever heard, if you were trying to do your studies alone and messed up. And it's okay if that happened!! He's done a lot worse. One time he was trying to raise a skeleton from a graveyard and instead managed to release a blast of energy that shattered almost all the nearby tombstones.

... he's being serious.

God you love him.

When he sees that you're listening he lights up and keeps going, waving his hands around and even putting on voices when it'll make you laugh.

He recounts tales about various spells he's managed to massively screw up in hilarious ways. Each tale makes you relax a little bit more, tearfully snickering and making a few jokes here and there. He pouts plenty but he's relieved to see you smile.

The calmer you get, the more the ice starts to melt around you both. It's still there but it's,, less now. Manageable.

It takes a while. But you can finally talk without your voice wavering too much. Felix gives you a handkerchief.

You explain to him who - what - you are. Your powers. How they work, how hard it's been to conceal them, the fear and anxiety you have at being found out. At being seen as evil.

Felix carefully, carefully brushes his lips along the back of your hand in that delicate way he's so fond of. He's a necromancer. You really think a little ice magic is gonna scare him? If anything he's even more impressed with you than before. Not just because of your magical strength but also the fact you've been hiding it so well for so long. That's hard to do with magic that strong.

Is he,, a little flustered with how strong you are? Yeah. He is. He won't admit it but he totally is.

He coaxes you back into bed and you're so worn out that you agree, snuggling into your pillow while you watch him search your room for your gloves.

Stella waddles in a few minutes later, your gloves between her little fangs. She hops on your bed and drops them on your face, then curls up against your chest and gives a self-satisfied purr.

Felix immediately starts apologizing for his little beast of a cat causing you such trouble but at this point you're laughing too much to even care.

From then on, Felix helps you control your magic as much as he can, even going so far as to finding suppression spells if you want them. Whatever he can do to help, he does.

Anisa

Anisa has to get up early the next morning. Like, before dawn early. Meaning she'll be back by mid-morning, around the time you'll be up.

When you wake up you're obviously groggy. You hear Anisa's amused little 'Good morning, sleeping beauty' and grunt meaninglessly back. Before your eyes are even open your hand drifts over to the nightstand, groping blindly for your gloves.

Wood, empty water cup,,, metal?

You blearily open your eyes. The water cup is yours. The metal would be Anisa's Sunstone breast plate. Tch. You lift it up-

Your gloves aren't there.

You scowl and peer between the bed and the nightstand. Nothing there. You grip the edge of the mattress and lean upside down to peek at the floor. Nothing there so you go ahead and kick off the blankets but they're getting tangled around your feet and your heart is starting to race but you bite back the panic and why won't this blanket come off where the hell are your gloves they aren't here but they have to be around somewhere but you can't find them oh no no no you have to find them-

'MC?? Are you feeling okay? You look pale...'

You shake your head, hands twitching, trying to keep your nerves as frozen as your rapidly-cooling fingertips. Your tongue is stuck to the roof of your mouth as you ask Anisa if she's seen your gloves anywhere.

'Hm? O-oh, yes... I needed to set my armor down so I moved them for a moment. Um, I think I had them right over... *Shuffle, ruffle noises* Or maybe...'

You bite your lower lip, trying not to let out a frightened whimper. God, how long have you had those gloves for? They're the only thing stopping you from losing control. You have to find them. But you can't move. You're frozen in place.

Thunk! Rustle. Thunk! Anisa is moving around you, buzzing from spot to spot like a hummingbird trying to find your lost gloves.

You have to move. Now.

With no warning you spring out of bed and sprint for the bathroom, slamming it shut behind you. Anisa jumps a few inches in the air in shock, her hair poofed out. A trail of frost and ice, a whisper of freezing cold wind is left in your wake.

... by Talos. What in the seven hells was that about?

Anisa isn't entirely sure what the hell just happened, but she knows it was her fault. And that kills her. She's your Knight In Shining Armor. She's supposed to protect you.

And she'll do that no matter what, damnit.

Lucky for you, she wears gloves all the time! She grabs a spare pair that are roughly your size and knocks on the bathroom door.

'MC? I... I'm sorry. I promise I'll find your gloves. But until then, perhaps these would work?'

There's silence for nearly a minute. Then shuffling. Then the door creaks open. Anisa flinches at the blast of cold air. You grab the gloves and slam the door again, accidentally nearly bonking Anisa in the nose.

Anisa hesitates for a long moment before going to clean her room to try and find your gloves.

Meanwhile you sit in the bathtub, knees drawn to your chest. Ice clings to the walls and the tiles and the mirror. But the cold doesn't bother you, anyways, so you ignore it.

You're shaking badly but you fumble with the gloves. They're warm and soft like Anisa. When you slip them on, it feels like you're holding her hands.

... deep breath. You've dealt with this for years. You can deal with it now. Sure, you never wanted Anisa to find out, but now you don't have any other choice. So you might as well try to minimize the damage.

It takes you nearly an hour and several times washing your face to calm down enough to leave the bathroom. You're anxious - maybe even feeling a little ill - but you want to just get this over with.

The room is,, a landfill. That's not new. But it's a different landfill than usual. At first you don't see Anisa. Your heart scratches at your throat. Did she leave you here alone? Is she giving up on you? Afraid of- oh wait no she's just buried under a pile of mugs, old clothes, blankets, and questionable socks.

Her hand shoots out from the pile and you dart over to help, pulling her to safety. Her cheeks are flushed from sprinting around the room. Sweat beads her brow. She clasps your hands in hers, she's so sorry her messiness has caused this, she's a Knight Lieutenant and she Knows She Should Be Better Than This, She Should Be More Put Together, gods you probably hate her right now-

You squeeze her hands. Look down as you try to find the right words.

'Anisa? Did you get dressed in the dark this morning?'

'? Y-yes, I suppose I did. I didn't want to wake you.'

You bite your lower lip to hide a snort, gently grabbing her wrist and holding her hand up so she can see it. Your gloves. She took your gloves.

'... Huh. I was wondering why they felt like the wrong size.'

You're both completely drained. Instead of trying to clean up, you both just crash into bed.

If you're comfortable with it she cuddles you close, playing with your fingers while you try to explain your magic.

If you'd rather not cuddle, you guys sit/lay side by side. She just wants you to feel safe and secure, so whatever you need she's more than happy to accommodate.

She's very curious. Do one (or both) of your parents have powers? This isn't common on Earth? You've been afraid of letting anyone find out? Her heart hurts a little for you.

She's,, she's the daughter of the Lord of Shadows. Leaving in fear of people finding out her secret, the terror of an unknown and potentially malicious magic predetermining you for evil? She Can Relate. But you didn't give up on her when you found out who she was, and she sure as hell won't give up on you.

She teaches you breathing techniques and calming thoughts. Starts carrying around an extra set of gloves for you. Dedicates a drawer to a bunch of gloves in case you have an emergency and need a pair.

Sage

It's a warm summer night. You and Sage are wandering through Porrima, talking and looking at wares from the market and making up constellations in the sky.

It's going great! Until you guys run into one of Sage's old,,, 'friends'. Who is Not Happy to see either one of you.

Sage isn't happy about it. You two have been working on de-escalation strategies for him, and he's actually been trying real hard for you!

He tries to be curt and polite but it isn't working.

He tries to keep his voice level and neutral but it isn't working.

He tries to set boundaries but that isn't working.

He finally decides to just remove himself and you from the situation. He's getting heated, ears pinned flat against his head and tail lashing around as he snaps that He's Not Dealing With This, Fuck Off, Leave Him Alone.

So his 'friend' starts shit with you; offensive, threatening, maybe even lewd. I'll leave that detail for you to decide

Sage Is Fucking Pissed™

When his eyes start glowing like stoked coals, you finally step in, ignoring the 'friend' entirely and telling Sage to stop.

He growls, less at you and moreso at the situation. But you've never been scared of him before and you aren't now. You reach out, either to set your hands on his shoulders or scratch behind his ears or do whatever you can to calm him down.

He nips at you. It's far from the first time that's happened, he's a Very Bitey Boi. He chomps on the wrist of your glove and tugs. He's trying to pull your hand away so he can keep yelling.

Rip!

Your glove tears and falls off your hand, totally shredded.

You're frozen. He's still on autopilot. Without thinking he nips at your other hand and does the same thing. It isn't until the second glove drops to the floor that his eyes change back to their usual amber, stormy with regret.

A shiver runs down your spine. Nonono, not here, not now! Not in public of all places!

'MC? Fuck, I'm so sorry, I d-didn't mean too-'

Ice burns your fingertips. A flurry of shards and snow burst free from you, hitting Sage right in the face, not enough to hurt but certainly enough to startle him.

You try to run but you're shaking so bad you can hardly manage to stay on your feet. Luckily Sage has taught you the layout of Porrima pretty well, and it doesn't take you long at all to find a quiet little alleyway to break down in.

Once Sage recovers from his shock, he darts after you. You've never done anything like that before. Were you always able to just blast him like that? Is that why you always get so touchy about your gloves? Gods he fucked up bad. He has no idea how he can even begin to make it up to you - that look of terror on your face before you ran off wrenches at his heart so bad he really does think getting stabbed would be less painful - but he'll work it out after he makes sure you're safe.

You've always had an icy tint to your scent, but it's a lot stronger now. At least it makes it easier to track you.

He skids to a stop at the maw of the alley. Pointed icicles sprout like twisted sentries, threatening to rip and tear anything that tries to push through the monster's throat.

... alrighty. He pulls out Zenith. With a focused thought it flames up. It takes some hacking - man Tulsi is gonna be pissed that he's mistreating his blade like this - but he charges forward anyways. He's not gonna let some stupid popsicles scare him off.

You're curled into a ball at the end of the alley. Ice crunches under foot. If you can hear him you don't respond. Just,, staring at a spot on the ground about a foot in front of you. Ice is growing along the walls. He's got superhuman heat. Steam curls off his body.

Once there's no more ice teeth biting at him, he sheathes his sword and carefully approaches. Your breathing is so shallow that he's surprised you haven't passed out yet.

'MC? Can you hear me?'

You don't respond.

His tail swishes uneasily. He sits down in front of you. The ice starts to melt under him, turning to water and soaking his pants and boots, but he doesn't seem to notice (aside from the fact he's lifting his tail to keep it dry)

He doesn't do well in silence. He does even worse when he feels guilty. So he starts talking - stumbling over apologies that are earnest and heartfelt but a little awkward because he's really bad at this. You still don't respond. He can't tell if you're ignoring him or disassociating.

He very gently takes your hands, his touch burning hot against your frozen hands. He pulls his gloves off and pulls them down your stiff fingers, fitting them snuggly around your palm and snapping the button at your wrist.

You give a slow blink. Curl your hands. Looks down at the gloves.

'Sage...' 'Y-yeah?' '...these are fingerless......' '................ Uuuuuuuh wait I can fix this hold on-'

He holds your hands in his.

'There! Now you won't be cold.'

He's so..... Gods he's trying so hard but he is just Such A Fool........ He genuinely thinks this is gonna work.

You close your eyes. Stress and ice cling to your senses, but with his heat enveloping you it's a little easier to let it go.

He starts chattering. Asking questions. You have ice powers? Can you like, make instant snowballs? Can you give him snowballs? He wants to pelt Elowen with snowballs. And Felix. And Anisa. And Tulsi. How cool would it be to have snowballs in summer?

He's so lighthearted about it. Part of it is because making jokes is How He Copes With Things. Part of it is because,, I mean, when he loses control of his emotions, he turns into a violent growling wolf. When you lose control of your emotions (or your gloves) you make a little pocket of winter.

MC!! Can you freeze a lake!! Do you wanna go ice skating!!!

He sure as hell knows how to keep it casual. Before long you're laughing too.

Once you're calmed down, he apologizes again for losing control. He wanted to protect you and all he did was end up hurting you. That bothers him a lot.

You use your fingerless-gloved hand to pat the top of his head. Sometimes people get overwhelmed. Hell, you smacked him in the face with a bunch of ice shards. Emotions can be unpredictable and magic can make it even harder to control.

He vows to do better. And you smooch his forehead.

He gets you new gloves (although he does think you look hot in his). He also Refuses To Let You Be Ashamed Of Your Ice Powers. He's not very good at controlling his corruption but he tries really hard to help with your snow. Even if he acts casual all the time, he's pretty attuned to your emotions, so if there's a situation where someone is upsetting you he's quick to intervene and help you keep your calm.
