This isn’t a commentary on intelligence, it’s about environmental surroundings.
As a person who grew up in Texas, we don’t have grass, we have concrete. Statically speaking, Leo wouldn’t have eaten grass. Also he’s smart (Did college math equations at age 8).
For Calypso, she was immortal in her childhood so I feel grass wouldn’t affect her in the slightest and she’d just go on with her day.
This joke looked like a nice time to draw how I headcanon Calypso to look.
1. I feel like she ties flowers into her hair and braids her hair in different styles since one of her pass times is weaving
2. I gave her vitiligo since I saw that people already headcanoned her to have it. Idk the og reason but my interpretation is that it makes her face look like a bunch of islands.
3. Calypso’s mom isn’t clear but with the consistency of it being tied to the ocean and Calypso’s dad canonically being Atlas, I thought to myself “What’s the sky and sea if not islands inbetween?” And Gods do love their ironic punishments. (I definetly need more practice on that part of the design)
4. I gave Calypso a Polynesian look as more diversity seems to be being added to the live action remake. Additionally, Polynesian translating to “Many” and “Islands” in Greek.
(If there are any Polynesian viewers, if I got anything wrong or if there’s a way to make the design more accurate, I’d love to know)
I tried putting symbolism in the flowers Calypso has in her hair but ended up messing with the coloring.
(I do want to put insert some butterfly weed in a future design)
Still on hiatus cause of stupid life stuff. But this keeps my brain occupied. I got 3 word docs of analysis.

Remember: The burning sensation is part of the process.
#Mouthwashing#blood#body horror#Emphasizing here that this is in reference to a media and character and not a cry for help on my end.#Mouthwashing is one of those games that tickles my brain and checks all the boxes for my niche interests -#-but it wasn't something that got the silly comic part in my cortex firing up. My analysis brain is eating well though!#What said...It is impossible for me to see this scene and not say out loud: “Me in the middle of my work day".#While there is a lot more going on with curly I personally resonated a lot with his struggles with burnout.#Burnout feels like mouthwash to me. That you keep rinsing out your mouth trying to get rid of the rotting smell#but it's just surface level solutions. The real cure requires something far more significant to actually make a difference.#The job 'is hard' and 'everyone struggles'. It's part of the process right? You're tired? Anxious? Depressed? Us too! Chin up!#Actually I resonated with a lot of things within Curly (this is a curly positive space - he's not perfect. He's just human).#One thing being his desire to see the good in people and believe in their potential.#Because here's the thing. Some people truly do just need someone in their corner who stands by them so they can grow and improve.#And some people will take advantage of your kindness. You focus so much on their humanity while you stop being a person to them.#The horrifically toxic relationship persists because Curly tries to see the bigger picture and believes in the good within.#Anyone who has lived through constantly trying to reframe the hurt as something else knows-#-just how many excuses your brain will make to avoid cognitive dissonance. It's human psychology.#Jimmy sucks so bad. But we the audience have the privilege of not having years of baggage associating him in our minds as 'friend'.

wanna ask how you feel about the eridan bpd headcanon/theory(?? not sure what to call it!) you're so good at your character analysis and i'd love to see your outlook on it
Since I don't have a degree or any formal training in psychology, I feel deeply uncomfortable diagnosing characters. I've made an autism joke before but only because I'm on the spectrum. He's definitely traumatized and anxious, but I mean those as descriptors of his behavior rather than capital-D Diagnoses. I try to focus on those when I can - the cause and effect of cognition, self-image, and behavior - and those factors may very well match up with DSM criteria, but I try not to touch an actual diagnosis with a ten foot pole unless the author has explicitly stated that X character has Y condition.
#there's a variety of reasons for this#part of it is that im GROSSLY unqualified to be handing out diagnoses when it takes a full on PhD to do that in real life#part of it is that psychology is inchoate and we are still very much in murky waters#for example: complex ptsd isn't even IN the DSM yet#and iirc my therapist told me it was because theyre still figuring out how to classify it (attachment disorder? trauma disorder? etc.)#part of it is that (from my limited and undereducated understanding) there are diagnoses that you can assign by completing a checklist...#but some that require a hell of a lot more testing and ruling out other potential causes#and the cluster-b personalities are (IIRC) not even ones you're supposed to diagnose minors with#bc of fears of self fulfilling prophecy and because minors in general are still developing personalities In General#and like the fact that i can't say that with authority speaks to how unqualified i am to do any diagnosing right? hahaha#and part of it is just because like#unless the story is specifically About That and the author has stated so explicitly#i think diagnosing characters tends to put blinders on analysis#like if i were to seriously go 'eridan is autistic' then it would massively bias my reading and understanding of his character#and we have 0 indication that eridan was ever explicitly intended to be autistic or that the author was trying to do an autism specifically#that doesn't mean that the reading is invalid because like thats what death of the author means#all readings are technically valid including stuff the author didn't necessarily intend#but that's just not the way i like to engage with media and not the way i like to approach character analysis#because PERSONALLY it just feels kind of reductive - but also -#i'd wager MOST of us don't have degrees in psychology#so when i say 'X character has Y condition' it might mean something totally different to somebody reading my analysis#even people who have Y condition aren't exempt because a lot of mental illnesses differ from person to person#whereas if i explain “X character has Y thoughts and Z behaviors” there's no ambiguity in that#eridan struggles with noticing that people are suffering and with realizing that he should care#at least part of this is due to his horrific murder-filled upbringing which rendered empathy a detriment & so he learned to ignore it#it could be autism - but it could also be trauma -#or he might just be Like That without actually meeting the diagnostic criteria for autism#& you can't even technically be diagnosed with C-PTSD#or maybe he has a burgeoning personality disorder but you aren't supposed to DX those too early anyway#or maybe hes just 13. see what i mean hahaha. ive reached the 30 tag limit

While I do agree that this very fact warrants us to take it easy on Az and give him time to work his way through it, I also think accountability (for lack of a better word in my present vocab) should still hold.
Yes, "demonising" (heh, arent I a jokester) abuse victims of any dynamic is wrong and not gonna push them on the path to learning, but reality checks and direct communication are a must, in my opinion and experience, to show them the errors of their ways. He is hurting himself and others (at least Crowley), which is not to be accidentally encouraged. It is also not to be actively villainised. Insetad, it should be pointed out and alternative behaviours can be suggested and rewarded.
Trauma, disability (like neurodivergence), and any other marginalisation do not give you a free pass to toxicity (or discrimination). Aziraphale had been unlearning a lot of the "brain washing" by heaven and is now seemingly "relapsing", falling back into the comfort of a known system because sometimes the abuse we are familiar with is more easily endured than the strangeness and pain of reflection, self-critique and the unforeseeable outcome of betterment. Especially for autistics. Change, even for the better, is typically super scary for us, doubly so if that involves confronting ourselves with our own wrongs.
There is something to be said in terms of leeway since we cannot directly communicate with Aziraphale. Only Crowley could and he does a piss-poor job of it, which is the same scenario as with Az. Crowley had no choice but to unlearn heaven's indoctrination bc of the fall, but that analysis is not what I'm doing here. My point in this paragraph is, that for all that we rationalise and exchange what ways we ought to treat the characters, it is irrelevant in relation to them bc we simply can't. We can, however, take what we're working out into our personal lives and work to better ourselves in how we treat real people with similar issues.
Which makes it all the more infuriating to see the blatant contempt of some towards our angel. It shows us how these people likely (would) treat such a person irl, which has much more at stake than the feelings of another fictional character being hurt by the "problematic" subject of discussion.
@lxvenderjewel thank you for the submission!
Sigh. This is like victim-blaming but... worse? Which like, I didn't even think that was possible. But apparently it is!
"Because it is an ab*sive system", we need to extend Aziraphale an extra measure of grace.
#welp i didnt mean to make this a short essay but it happened#sometimes a certain topic just teiggers an immediate flow 🤷🏻♂️#anyway im by no means a psychology expert#just an audhder with a special interest in psychology and a bachelor's in literary analysis 😄#ive actually started sketching out a potential paper on Az bc he and all this is so dear to me#a mock paper i should say bc i make no claim to academic accuracy or integrity#i wont be drawing on secondary sources other than anecdotes#probably#dont know yet how long that will take either but if anyone's interested i could make it available once done#will make another post just for that when the time comes#okay i think im done#good omens#goodomens#good omens 2#goodomens2#aziraphale#ineffable husbands

Minthara reading everyone to filth upon recruitment is funny, but it also highlights just how paranoid she is. Realistically, it probably takes her a few days to figure everyone out rather than the instant she is recruited. When talking about all the companions, a common theme in all her responses relates to their combat capabilities and survivability, and points out their strengths and their weaknesses. She's not throwing shade or stirring the tea. Minthara is conducting a threat assessment. Minthara having very realistic and accurate readings of everyone is a trauma response, because she needs to know who they are and very quickly.
She is trying to figure out who is the most likely to kill her and why they would kill her. But also how they would go about it and is weighing her odds against them. She has to know their weaknesses in case she needs to exploit them, and she has to know their strengths so she can defend against them. And Minthara doesn't just consider their combat capabilities, but their psyche as well, using it as a factor to determine the likelihood of them ever coming after her specifically and how she can disarm them psychologically if need be. But you know who she doesn't provide her assessment for? You.
You are a conundrum. The moment you saved her, she has been curious of you, but wary. Although grateful you saved her, she doesn't understand why you saved her when she believes you had far more reason to either kill her or leave her behind. She wants to trust you, but her trust has always gotten her stabbed. She wants to have faith that her savior won't turn against her, but she has no reason to believe you won't. She spends the entirety of Act 2, watching you, analyzing you, trying to figure you out because she doesn't know what to do with you. She asks you some questions because she is still trying to figure out what motivates you. "Why come to Moonrise? Why raid the grove? Why knock me out?" In two of these questions, she is determining how likely you are to harbor any violent intent. And one of these questions is born of your history of bringing her harm. (Oh the irony of Minthara trusting you less if you knocked her out)
You're a potential enemy whose weakness she doesn't want to exploit, a potential enemy she doesn't want to have to defend herself against. And all this time she spends watching you, she finds things about you that she likes. Really likes. And while conducting her assessment of you, she falls in love with you, and it terrifies her because she still does not know if she is safe with you. So she asks you to share your mind and just tell her if you're safe and can be trusted. She doesn't want to guess anymore, and she doesn't want to come to a potential conclusion she doesn't like. She doesn't want to do the analysis, she doesn't want to be paranoid, she wants to trust you and feel safe with you. She needs to know that you are a safe person for her to love.
#bg3#baldur's gate 3#minthara#minthara baenre#evil murder kitten#i know a lot of this is headcanon and i base a lot of it on her being unresponsive in act 2#i like to think it is because she is still trying to figure you out more than anything#and she becomes pretty vocal in act 3 because she has figured you out and knows what you are about#and the only time she really talks about you is if you are durge#but she is not the one who starts that conversation - it is you#even in that conversation - the first thing she asks is why you're telling her#and you can tell her that you trust her - but she immediately places even more distance between you and her#and she expresses doubts on if she can trust you because you just admitted to the urges#and she knows better than the rest that you are serious and she has to consider you a threat even though she doesnt want to#and in the scene where durge gets tied up - she doesn't even ask you what happened nor gives you a chance to speak#she immediately threatens you - telling you that if you ever think of harming her - she'll gut you. End of conversation#because you needing to be tied up so that you don't murder a companion is all the assessment of you she needs

Some English Grammar Vocabulary
Atelic
A verb, construction, situation, etc. which does not express an inherent end point or goal.
Examples: "It is raining"; "The children are watching TV"
Catenative
A verb that can form a chain with one or more subsequent verbs
Examples: "want to go"; "hate to tell you"
False Friend
Also called false cognate and faux ami.
A word that has the same or a similar form in two (or more) languages, but different meanings in each.
This term is used in contrastive analysis and foreign language teaching.
Example: The French adjective sympathique (like Italian simpatico) often means ‘nice’, ‘pleasant’, or ‘likeable’ and is therefore a false friend to English sympathetic.
In the same way French actuel means ‘present’, not ‘actual’.
God’s Truth
An extreme view of grammar which assumes that the ‘rules’ of grammar have an objective existence in the language, and that all good grammarians will therefore discover the same facts and propound the same descriptions.
Invented by Fred W. Householder (1913–1994) in 1952.
Greengrocer’s Apostrophe
Use of an apostrophe in an ordinary plural, where it is incorrect.
Example: "Potato’s 75p per kilo."
Hesitation Noise
A sound (or sounds) not classified as a word, but used by speakers to keep conversation going.
Hesitation noises are somewhat inadequately indicated by such items as er, erm, uh, um, etc.
Hypocoristic
(Designating) a pet form of a *word; (that is or has the nature of) a pet name
Example: Auntie.
Irrealis
Of a verb, form, etc.: expressing unreality, non-factuality, extreme unlikelihood, potentiality, etc.
Examples: counterfactual conditional clauses, which contain a past tense form (e.g. If I lived to be a hundred . . . ), and
so-called subjunctive moods (e.g. If I were you . . . ) describe what is extremely unlikely or totally impossible.
Non-Word
A word that is not recorded or not established.
This may be interchangeable with nonce word, but tends to be restricted to inventions that could be unintentional errors rather than deliberate coinages:
1963 PUNCH. The aesthetically displeasing non-word ‘annoyment’.
A string of letters (or sounds) that is not an English word.
Pleonasm
The use of more words than are needed to convey a particular meaning.
Examples: "see with one’s eyes"; "at this moment in time."
Polyseme
A word that has multiple meanings.
Many English words have several meanings which are all uses of the same word that have grown apart over time
Examples:
Draw - ‘cause to move in a certain direction’, ‘produce a picture’, ‘finish a game with an equal score’
Flat - ‘apartment’, ‘note lowered by a semitone’, ‘piece of stage scenery’
Psychological Verb
A verb that expresses a psychological state.
Also called experiencer verb, mental verb, psychological predicate, psych verb; and verb of psychological state.
There are 2 types of psychological verb: those that have an experiencer as subject and a stimulus as object (e.g. I felt the cold);
those that have a stimulus as subject and experiencer as object (e.g. The cold overpowered me).
Royal We
The use of we by a king or queen to mean ‘I’.
Example: Queen Victoria’s ‘We are not amused’.
The style is now restricted to formal documents.
Tmesis
The separation of the parts of a word by an intervening element or elements.
This is not a very productive operation in English, and is largely confined to the insertion of swear words for greater emphasis, as in: "I can’t find it any-blooming-where."
The phenomenon is now usually described by using the term infix.

The anti-Komahina copypasta of all time pt 1/4
(aka: "toxic submissive homoerotic flirting", "he is a homosexual who curses men hearts. It's my psychological analysis", "no matter how many semens he fills his stomach with. It's not possible!", "it's seriously getting on my nerves how he needs to homofy everything")
This piece was not authored by me and is posted here for archival purposes only, because I can't bear the despair-inducing despair of xitter potentially going down and demolishing mrpoopoofart's masterwork. Please refer to the attribution links throughout.
Seriously, not by me. I enjoy a little recreational Hinanami as much as the next gay but you'll quickly see that this thread reaches heights to which not even an Ultimate Hope could aspire. Not even if he had a snowboard.
[Square brackets (source links and video descriptions) are my only additions. Typos in the rest of the text are directly from the original.]
Goku Nr.1hater (@mrpoopoofart)
Nagito Komaeda influences Hajime Hinata into homosexual activities accompanied with his feminine aura he spreads through his toxic submissive homoerotic flirting. (A thread)
10:31 PM · Oct 31, 2023 [src]
Let's begin with a little introducton. So we all know that Nagito and Hajime are meant to be rivals throughout the game, even though apparently Nagito developed a supposed "crush" on Hajime, which is according to the media confirmed by the creator + [src]
But our (hetero) MC Hajime, doesn't feel the same way about him and despises him to death. [src]
1. Here is a theory of mine. Take your time and try to understand this complex comprehension analysis, even if it's difficult for you to understand at first sight. Take your time and read it carefully. [src]
2.Hajime having enough of Nagito Komaeda Every player knows that Hajime hates Komaeda's guts right? You can see how much hatred he holds for that psycho. The reasons are: his manipulation, crimes and the homoerotic submissive flirting he does when he's all alone with Hajime. [src]
3.Nagito's seduction trap In Chapter 2, when the vicious Nagito was tied up, you could notice how his voice sounded like he was moaning. Moaning mostly is a feminine sexual arousal to seduce men. (Straight men would never do this because they are not female). [src]
[Video: original here. Clip is of Nagito tied up on the floor of the old building, being offered breakfast by Hajime and remarking "Huh? You're not going to feed me?"]
In addition, Nagito seems to be very hungry and forces poor Hajime to feed him, even though he refuses to.But as he already asks with a moan, (theory)he thinks of wanting to eat Hajime's wiener in order to suck him dry. Like a needy prostitute! [src]
Hajime is stunned and feels anxious when he realizes what the antagonist actually meant by "feeding" him. Devestated, he leaves as quickly as he can. [src]
[order of images is as in original thread]
4.Nagito starving for Hajime's Pee pee. Apparently Nagito hasn't eaten any proper food for days, right, when he was tied up in the old building. Theory: What if the scoundrel wanted to only eat toast and milk to make room for Hajime's fluid? [src]
+That's honestly unacceptable for a freak like him, if my theory would turn out to be true. [src]
5. Nagito's attempt to make Hajime feel pity for him We players all know Nagito is just faking his backstory and his allegend disease. Even Nagito later on admits he read something like that in a book. He shouldn't wonder why he has no friends if he acts the way he does. [src]
+The untrustable antagonist is telling Hajime in this scene, he has stage 3 lymphoma and frontotemporal dementia and has allegedly 6 months to a year of life span. This guy really believes Hajime would forgive him for all his evil deeds. [src]
6. Nagito's terrifying eyes and grin Hajime already feels creeped out, when noticing the antagonist's swirling eyes, which causes Hajime to panic. Swirling eyes symoblise excitement, determination, rage or insanity. [src]
+But maybe, just maybe there was a spark of manipulation/influence behind those malicious eyes, to make Hajime aware who he's dealing with [src]
+ [src]
7. Shoe Licking In this scene Nagito tells Hajime he'd give him the clues, if he'd drop on his knees and lick his shoes. Now, that's a very strange and evil way to make a deal. However, Nagito then later on admits he's just joking, but not even the protagonist believes it was. [src]
+This might have been a way, to show off his dominance and inapropriate behavior towards men. [src]
8. Official art analysis So in this official art we can view those two sitting back to back. They represent the contrast of each other. The homosexuality and heterosexuality. The colors of Hajime's clothes express strong masculity, the way the Pyjama matches his hairstyle. [src]
+Also, Hajime is obviously smiling a lot more than Nagito does, because Nagito isn't exactly copying the same postion Hajime is in, otherwise their hands would have touched, which would honestly gross the MC out. [src]
9. Inapropriate Body reveal In one of Nagito's freetime events Hajime demands Nagito to take off his clothes to go swimming, but Nagito seems to "misunderstand" the question and believes Hajime wants to see him naked to enjoy his body. And many of you stan a delulu guy like him? [src]
[Video: original here. Clip is of a Nagito free time event on the beach. Hajime: "Let's take our clothes off." Nagito: "Does that mean... you want to go in the ocean with me? That's a bad idea. There are lots of ways that could be dangerous. But I don't mind if you just want to see me naked." Hajime: (You don't mind...?)]
7. Izuru controlling Hajime's mind Nagito has allegedly shown interest in Hajime before the killing game happened. When Hajime was Izuru at that time. Izuru sensed Nagito's homosexuality and unintentionally grabbed his waist, as an maneuver to shoot him. [src]
*10 [src]
+ Nagito however, got turned on and dropped to the floor breathing heavily with a red face. [src]
11. Love Nest Curse Nagito leads Hajime to "their" (actually his) love nest in one of his fte. Theory: The malicious boy planned something evil. I'm sure Nagito wants Hajime to act all lovely dovely with him and give him all those coochie coochie coos.Bro, that's a hetero MAN! [src]
+ Leave him the hell alone [src]
12. Cookie Monster In this magazine cutout Hajime and Nagito are once again taking the spotlight. The scoundrel on the right, is happily handing a scared Hajime a pair of cookies. I can't read any japanese so I let Google translate for me.+
Apparently one phrase says "Take a bite of him". I strongly believe that this sentence has 2 meanings. Meaning 1: Nagito biting into the Adam's apple (which is cruely erotic) but Meaning 2 convinced me more. Meaning 2: It's a metaphor and means they are playing Cookie Monster. [src]
Explanation: Cookie Monster is a silly children game where you try to "eat" the person. You have to run and try not being cought by your enemy. [src]
Nagito's character song analysis Someone sent me 2 character songs of Nagito to analyse for my thread and of course I analysed some of the lyrics as logical as I could. The songs do provide a connection to the game and mostly the anime. But I only decided to analyse one song. [src]
13. Zettai Kibou Birthday As much as I know, this song is dedicated to Hajime's birthday. The first of january. In this diabolic song, the antagonist sings about wanting a sexual affair with the protagonist, who was known as Izuru Kamukura at that time according to media sources. [src]
Furthermore, he seems to be the one "taking" it, which is already terrifying to think about it. Now, it makes so much sense how Nagito manipulates men. It's hidden in his feminine aura he spreads when seducing men. [src]
+Since the song is pretty much telling us about oral and anal sex, there is a possibility that Nagito has experience with diabolic homosexual activities and maybe tells us, he had many affairs with other men before meeting Hajime. [src]
+This makes Nagito even more of a awful human being, who could have done better in life, if he took the right path. But he didn't. [src]
14 .Nagito abusing Hope for his homosexual desires I'm a Christian guy aka God's second beloved Child and I need to get this off my chest quickly. If Nagito Komaeda was real, he'd land in hell for committing one of the most awful sins close to murder. [src]
+Him utilizing hope for forbidden love,is concidered a crime. Explaination: Discrimination against God and Eve (God's first creation). An unforgiveable crime, exactly. Because Hope should be used for future goals and expetations from God and not the opposite. [src]
15. Hajime's forever longlasting unforgettable love for Chiaki Hajime 100% fell inlove with Chiaki when they met for the first time. See how he's looking at her. The eyes are telling me "She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen" [src]
[Video: original here. Clip is of Hajime meeting Chiaki. Chiaki: "First, like, ever! It's a classic, don't you agree? there's nothing else like it in the whole genre!" Hajime, strained: "Yeah, classic... I new-game-plussed it five times in a row once..." Chiaki: "Are you serious?" Hajime: "Yes! Cross my heart!" Chiaki: "I know how tough that is. I did ten in a row once." Hajime: "That blows mine out of the water." Chiaki: "It's just... I've never met anybody who can play games as much as me before. Some day, I wanna see your very best run, all right?" Hajime, cut off by end of clip: "Su--" Notably, their faces are generic anime faces throughout with no special effects applied to the eyes, but ya boy knows that destined hetship just hits different.]
+compared to Nagito his eyes are filled with negativity, telling "He's the most awful human being". So don't come at me for being an expert for noticing love at first sight unlike you Yaoi shippers. [src]
Theory: Furthermore, since Hajime posses all talents now, he definitely would turn Chiaki into an Ai again, so that she keep remaining being his true waifu. [src]
[Oh no! Image limit reached? Never fear; it's onward to.......]

hi! may i ask you something? are there authors or techniques you find helpful in times of existencial despair, dissociation and/or trauma? specially through anticapitalist lenses. i know it is a central point in psychoanalyses and i was curious if you have any recommendations. i'm going through a deep crisis right now and was diagnosed with bpd (many women are! haha) and i would like to explore authors with a more critical vision of the dsm/hegemonic psychiatry/"pop psychology" and standart treatments such as cbt, etc + ways to feel better, honestly. hence my interest in analyses.
i have a reading list on psych that might have something you're looking for, but i don't really think that any of my personal techniques of, like, distress management are anti-capitalist inasmuch as they're really individual health behaviours or whatever... like if im frank mostly the way i deal with trauma or whatever is things that the average psych discourse currently puts under the heading of 'maladaptive coping mechanism' (though i think this framing is incorrect too lol)
i'd be cautious about the ascription of revolutionary potential or whatever to psychoanalysis... there are numerous camps of thought on this and i do think analysis in its broadest sense has a capacity to describe & engage with psychological aspects, like ambivalence and internal conflict, that biopsychiatry laughably fails at. this is kind of what like byung-chul han et al mean by talking about psychoanalysis as dialectical & inherently composed of negations, as opposed to the facile 'positivity' (double sense) of the other psy-sciences.
but 'psychoanalysis' in practice historically and presently often means quite different things, such as a pre-fab set of triangular mommy-daddy-me discourses just as reductive and inappropriately universal as those of cbt and pop psych, and with the added bonus that often the psychoanalytic mode is conceived as a way to avoid giving patients access to care configured as an 'easy way out' (psychoactive substances, hrt, etc). this is kind of why for example deleuze was so critical of lacan and such, while still building elements of his critique off people like wilhelm reich who have actually tried to develop psychoanalysis in an explicitly revolutionary marxist direction. i have a lot of sympathy for such projects & certainly much more than for biopsychiatry or 'biopsychosocial' mental disease models, etc. but it's demonstrably simply not the case that psychoanalysis is always better than, or even opposed to or separate to, other modes of psychiatric practice.

I've managed to get myself into a situation where I don't actually know if my area of interest is linguistics or not, and you're the first authority I thought of to save me from my Sylvia Plath the sky is empty moment. this problem likely stems from the fact that I have trouble describing my area of interest. the best way to describe it is "the way people use language, specifically in arguments, and what that use of language can potentially tell us about a persons position on a given subject," and that's still a little bit nonsense. if I had to pin down a specific issue it would be how the way people argue changes based on their perceived position of power relative to the person they're arguing with. I've read saussure and a lot of post-structuralist philosophers, but I'm also reading about discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis, and SFL. also there's a good amount of rhetoric in here. I don't know if this is philosophy of language or linguistics or cognitive science and I have no formal background in any of those fields.
idk if you'll be able to help; based on what you've said this is completely outside the scope of your specialty, but I figured it was worth a shot and if nothing else asking this question to a real adult academic is giving me a momentary reprieve from GRE studying.
this sounds like the kind of thing that you'll have to intentionally ground in one field and then supplement it with others. linguistics and particularly discourse analysis could be a very fruitful conceptual home for a study in this vein, but those other options (philosophy, cogsci, etc.) are certainly open to you as well.
if you're looking at the topic to formally pursue in graduate school, since you mention the GRE, you should start by investigating the specialties of faculty in specific departments to see where you'd align most closely. these high-level categories are somewhat arbitrary, so it might not be under the name you expect (for example, i know of linguists in departments of linguistics, anthropology, english, sociology, cogsci, psychology, foreign languages...)
so to give two answers to your question: yes it's linguistics. but it doesn't have to be linguistics.

Knights of Guinevere Teaser Analysis
1. First of all, I want to start by saying that “Knights of Guinevere” (KoG) appears to be a show that is NOT made for children to watch. While “The Amazing Digital Circus” (TADC) is not exactly made for children either; unlike in TADC, swearing & violence is NOT censored in KoG. Just wanted to get saying that out of the way with first so children don’t go watch the KoG Teaser thinking it’s a kids show when it’s actually violent as fuck.
2. For a few months now, I had been secretly hoping for Glitch to release a 2-D animated show but not actually believing it would ever happen and I am so fuckin’ happy about KoG being a 2-D show by Glitch. Everything about the animation style for KoG is absolutely PERFECT. I especially LOVE the way that Guinevere’s eyes are drawn!!!
3. In the first scene, there are 20 animals surrounding Guinevere. 7 of these animals have some part of their body on the stone bed that Guinevere is sleeping on. I’ve been thinking about the significance of the numbers 20 and 7 in regarding release date predictions. The date 7/20 (July 20th) falls on a Sunday. However, I do not believe that the Pilot will come out as early as July for two reasons: the first reason is that Glitch plans to release the Gaslight District Pilot first and the second reason is that the KoG trailer says the Pilot will come out in LATE 2025. But I do see July 20th as being a potential release date for the official KoG trailer, since there will likely be a trailer coming out in addition to the teaser closer to the Pilot episode’s release date.
4. The second scene shows Guinevere in an MRI (which is a machine that is full of magnets; anything made of metal will fly up and get stuck to the machine). In this scene, Guinevere’s ENTIRE BODY is all made of metal and her blood is spilling all over the room. The blood is also blue, which is the same color as her hair is the first & third scenes.
5. The third and final scene returns to Guinevere’s dream of her being a princess-like figure in a mystical forest, like she was in the first scene. Except this time, the screams of her fighting for her life in the MRI machine are still clearly being heard in the background. Guinevere then smiles in her dream as if everything is alright while her real self continues screaming in horror at the exact same time.
6. Final thoughts: This all makes me wonder, are these women both the same person like we all initially believed? Or are they two separate people and the princess is smiling at the robot woman’s physical & psychological suffering? Are either of these two people even “Guinevere” at all or are they currently unnamed characters while Guinevere is a currently unseen character?

What do you think about Copia’s childhood? I saw your post about Terzo’s, so I started wondering. Where do you think he was raised, who do you think he was raised by, how did it contribute to who he is today?
YESSSSSS YES YES YES YES THIS IS THE ASK I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR RAAAAHHHH–
ok so first, i just wanna be clear that this post isn't gonna include anything about Cardi's twin because i'm still waiting to see what happens next in the lore before i try to write anything involving him.
with that out of the way,
like all my Ghost headcanons, my headcanons about Cardi are built on the foundation that the band Ghost lore is about 1) an evil satanic cult, and 2) a dysfunctional showbiz family from Los Angeles.
basically, i think Cardi had a very lonely childhood. and he has psychological issues caused by a lifetime of Sister Imperator's insane parenting. his anxiety in Rite Here Rite Now, about how being Papa is all he wants to do and all he thinks he could do, SCREAMS of "unethical Hollywood parent who molded her child to be a star" to me.
i do think Sister 'raised' him, or was at least present in his life since he was a child ("You'll always be my little Cardi.") and she just... didn't him she was his mom / Nihil was his dad. (i guess it's quite similar to children of catholic clergy IRL, who are sometimes raised by family but never told about their true parentage, or know the truth and are told to hide it.)
Cardi is autistic, obviously, but i also think his awkwardness is him being socially underdeveloped because he comes from an isolated cult environment. he was a weird satanic homeschool kid who almost never interacted with anyone outside the Ministry, and he was basically left to watch movies and listen to music and play video games all day. i like the idea that Cardi had dance training when he was young, though. that was probably the only time he really got to interact with others. and because he grew up in the Los Angeles area, on the occasions he did get to go out, he was always surrounded by the entertainment industry and people trying to rise to stardom.
anyway, i think this was all somewhat intentional, or at least worked in Sister Imperator's favor, to mold him into a neurotic showbiz baby in service of her evil satanic death cult. (though i don't think he cares about the cult aspect of Ghost at all. he's been in it his whole life because he didn't have a choice and has never known anything else. he really just wants to be a rock star.) growing up without the love of friends + family, Cardi filled that void with games / music / film. so... of course he wanted to be an entertainer when he grew up– that was his only avenue for human connection.
and i think Cardi kinda knew Sister Imperator was giving him special treatment and pulling strings to put him in position to become Papa, though he never understood why.
a major point in my Terzo character analysis post is that he was very ambitious and he loved being an entertainer and a showman, but he was frustrated because he wasn't allowed to express his full potential. i wrote that his mindset was "i know i'm good enough. and i could prove it if they would just let me."
and ever since i wrote that, i can't stop thinking about how Cardi feels the exact same way.
he's super talented. he's worked very hard. he's proud of his accomplishments. he's proven he's capable! but Sister Imperator doesn't respect him. she infantilizes him. she keeps the training wheels on. she doesn't want him to be capable!
Sister Imperator does not allow Cardi to have independent thoughts or make real decisions for himself. she allows him the illusion of autonomy when she needs to, but every time he shows a little bit of awareness of how fucked up his life actually is, she shuts him down to keep him under control. she purposefully hides information from him so he won't know anything she doesn't want him to know. she intrudes on his privacy because his bedroom doesn't have a door.
i think their relationship has been like this his whole life.
you can see examples of this manipulation / obfuscation throughout the Chapters, and you can see a lot of it in Rite Here Rite Now.
first off, the opening narration gives the context / background information that sometime in late 2021, when Cardi was 51 years old, he found out his two bosses are actually his parents, and his mother kept this a secret from both him and his father his whole life. which is. wild. to say the least.
(i think when he found out, he was disappointed by the realization that he got to where he is because he was secretly a nepo baby and not because he was doing a good job on his own.)
moving on. in Rite Here Rite Now, Cardi's main source of stress was that he fully believed his parents were going to murder him and then put his body on display to sell VIP tickets for his successor's concerts. this was genuine fear, and he had a legitimate reason to believe they would do that to him because they actually did that to his three older brothers! and in the later Chapters, Sister Imperator and Mr. Psaltarian were totally fucking with his head and making him think he was going to die!
he asks Sister why he can't continue being Papa for longer –because he doesn't want his parents to kill him when they're done with him– and she just brushes him off and tells him to keep playing his show. then in the Miasma scene, Cardi has a critical moment of awareness and asks what the hell is actually going on in his life and who's in control.
PAPA EMERITUS IV: One thing I do not understand… All these things… here, all of this stuff, and all of these things we're doing, where we go, and when, and to where… Who decides these things? I mean, who's calling the shots?
this is totally fair! he has a right to know this information!
in response, his parents completely avoid answering the question. they shut him down and basically tell him he sounds ungrateful for the life he has.
SISTER IMPERATOR: You waste so much time and energy worrying about what's been and what's next, who's next and whatnot. As with all things in life, it circulates. Everything that has a beginning has an ending. There just has to be an orderly transition.
she never tells him the truth. she just tells him to stop worrying. stop thinking.
they never tell him they're not going to kill him. They Never Tell Him They're Not Going To Kill Him. THEY NEVER TELL HIM THEY'RE NOT GOING TO KILL HIM.
Cardi spends the last third of the movie making peace with the idea that he is going to die soon and his parents will be the ones to kill him. after Respite On The Spitalfields, he seems resigned to his fate. he tells the Nameless Ghouls they're not doing an encore. he says "Fuck it." but Sister Imperator, still explaining nothing, tells him to do the encore and he unenthusiastically gets back on stage.
SISTER IMPERATOR: Even though you don't understand right now, sooner or later, you will know what I'm talking about. Things –events– are unavoidable. Now you go back out there and give them one hell of an encore. And that's all you have to worry about. PAPA EMERITUS IV: Okay. SISTER IMPERATOR: Off you go.
by the beginning of Square Hammer, he decides he is actually happy with the life he has and he's okay with whatever's coming. and he still expects he's going to die... only for them to totally fake him out.
Sister Imperator dies instead. in the letter she leaves him, she tells him, "My son, I'm sorry I could not find it in my heart to tell you about my condition. I was afraid you might lose your sometimes frail concentration." more obfuscation. more infantilization.
at the end of the letter, she promotes him to head of the Clergy. he takes on his new job assignment as Frater Imperator and he seems to think he'll have more power now that Sister Imperator is "not in charge anymore." i'm not so sure about that.
and this isn't even getting into all the other weird shit going on between them in that movie! why was Cardi literally unable to see her wheelchair and medicine until the Spoksonat scene? why couldn't he remember his twin brother who he spent time with as a child? either Cardi is even more mentally unwell than we know, or Sister is messing with his head in even more ways than we know. maybe both. probably both.
i do believe Sister Imperator loves Cardi. that does not negate the fact that she is also manipulative and dishonest and has no respect for him, and that made her a terrible parent. she caused him a lifetime of unnecessary confusion and suffering in furtherance of her goals. yes, he is often childish and irresponsible. but i think the way she treated him didn't allow him to mature on his own.
the worst part about all this? i think he's convinced himself that he loves her, too. (he doesn't actually know how to feel about her. it would be too painful to think about.)
in summary, to me, Cardi's life is like The Truman Show, except it's the bad ending where the producer (Sister Imperator) successfully convinces him to stay in the bubble.
this was supposed to be a headcanons post and it totally turned into an analysis post, but i cannot help it. i just love Cardi so fucking much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I JUST WANT CARDI TO BE SAFE AND HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
btw i think his actual legal given name is Cardinal Copia Imperator. yeah. i believe Sister Imperator actually named him that.
#sorry this is so fucking long. i will probably make bits and pieces of this into separate posts#cardinal copia#papa emeritus iv#frater imperator#sister imperator#cardi#radley post#rite here rite now#the band ghost lore#headcanon#analysis

Ok just had to share because I've been seeing these people all around and yet it had never happened directly to me.
So, great review of Nosferatu, and I get into A Situation with a person claiming that Orlok is a psychic pdfile rapist of child-Ellen and what's more, the covenant he tricked her into making with him symbolizes a marriage contract, thus Ellen is the analogue of a child bride and a denunciation of the buying and selling of women as brides through history and during that period in particular - also class analysis of how he's a parasite that sucks people dry, yadda yadda, we all know the class analysis. Now that's certainly....a take, and tbh I can see some elements of it sleekly fitting in with the way Eggers structures his themes, but to treat it so absolutely as THE explanation of such an intricate narrative....yeah. I had some issues with that.
And the whole affair ends with that person telling me verbatim, I kid you not, "you should examine why it is that you have a romantic reading on such an one-sided relationship between an undead rapist killer and his teenage victim".
And I'm like....what is this supposed to be? An own? Is it supposed to make me stop dead on my tracks and go "oh yeesh. Why am I romanticizing the goddamn gothic romance????? Am I some kind of monster? A ticking time bomb who'll listen tomorrow about a teen grooming victim of some degenerate and go "yeah but consider that she might have called on him on her dreams to liberate her and spread Covid around"???
To make a long story short, that passive-aggressive urge to self-psychologize with the hint that there's something wrong with myself did absolutely nothing to me,and I can explain it already as I did.
I had a romantic reading because I like gothic romance.
That's it, that's all the answer needed.
But I'm feeling rambly, so I'll elaborate. Because I like sounding the depths of the human mind and will and I like imagining it against powers that defy human measures. Because I like to imagine human nature as a universe, full of it's own destructive phenomena, natural disasters, secret cave systems and toxic geysers. Because in fiction I am free to do so, and can taste flavors that I would never seek out in the real world, like the vertigo of fulfilling the need for self-destruction, or the grandeur of being worth more than the entire world to someone, and what's more, I can acknowledge they exist, and can safely follow them to their logical limits from behind the safety of a book cover. Because on the page we can live out what can't be lived out in the real world even if we tried and because "some things belong on the page, others in life, and it's a blessed fool who can't tell the difference" and I don't know how others see themselves, but I am neither blessed nor a fool.
So needless to say, that wasn't the one it was probably intended as. Really interesting, though, to see such limited-minded puritanism take the stand on the event of Nosferatu coming out. Really interesting how, somehow, they are sounding more and more like crusaders of moral purity for the easily-deceived masses, only now dressed in some righteous "anti-abuse" garb, like abuse in the world will be affected if someone on the internet says that maybe the devouring embodiment of darkness that was rotting alive in the movie had some lasting and fatal effect on Ellen, and it didn't have to be love for it to be defining.
The real question is, why when your limit is the sky and you can make playgrounds out of your mind, do people feel the need to bring everything down to the unromantic, pedestrian and depressive reality that surrounds us whether we want it or not? As far as passive-aggressive urges for self-reflection go, I think that's a much more potentially productive one.

thank you for your analysis of him!! it's very interesting. especially the part where you mentioned him being a romantic because he's objectively perceived as a cold, cruel, emotionally unavailable person (which he was) but he clearly found grandiose motivations and purposes to justify his crimes. how self-aware do you think he was? and if he was made aware of the outcome of his quest for power, would he do it nonetheless? realistically what would it take for him to have a moral crisis or question his values? was he aromantic and repulsed by human connection by nature or did he actively suppress whatever humanity was left...or maybe just try to be perceived as not needing it? sorry for asking so many questions. i could spend hours attempting to unravel tom's psyche.
thanks in advance
Hello Anon! Thank you for your questions. I want to address the first few in a different post, because I have a few different answers I want to discuss and don't want this post to run on forever. Is Tom Riddle Aromantic?
Before we delve into the intricacies of Tom Riddle's capacity for Romantic love, it is important for me to mention that we'll be disregarding the plot point of his inability to love due to his parents' love potion thing. Instead, our focus will be purely on his psyche and the effect that has on his ability to love. ( Because that's what this blog is for, and the whole love potion thing is silly in my humble opinion)
To address whether Riddle's beliefs and upbringing contribute to an aromantic disposition, I think we first have to consider his own capacity for romantic love. I'll be discussing his capacity for romantic love through the fact of his narcissism, a topic I've explored before here.
Riddle's psychology can largely be understood through the lens of pathological narcissism. While all humans present a public façade, for a pathological narcissist, the gap between this façade and their concealed self is particularly stark. Riddle's charm was a strategic tool to attract admirers who could feed his sense of self. This façade protects the false self from exposure, maintaining his grandiose self-image and fuelling his delusions.
Emotional intimacy is typically outside a narcissist's comfort zone as they are disconnected from their true feelings, driven instead by the need to uphold their grandiose persona. Narcissists often idealise their partners' admirable qualities, using them as a mirror for their own grandiosity. In this context, love becomes a means to an end—a way to support their self-image, making romantic love a form of supply for a narcissist.
Narcissists possess many qualities such as social confidence, likability, and charm, which are optimal for initiating relationships. However, these are coupled with traits like low empathy, a tendency to use others to maintain their false self-image, and overall self-centeredness, which are destructive to functional relationships. A narcissist's partner is usually objectified, unable to retain their own autonomy within the relationship. If the partner shatters the narcissist's illusion, they may become the target of contempt for disrupting the narcissist's grandiose perception they created of their partner. Essentially, the goal of such a relationship is the complete obliteration of the partner's autonomy.
Despite these challenges, it is important to recognise that narcissists can and do love, although their love sometimes differs from a healthy, unconditional relationship. Following this logic, Riddle is capable of romantic love, but it would most likely be an unhealthy relationship where his partner is more objectified than valued as a person.
Having established Riddle's capacity for love, we return to the question of his potential aromanticism. Possible reasons include:
Repulsion by human connection by nature Active suppression of any remaining humanity Intentional portrayal of himself as above human needs
While I do not believe Riddle was innately repulsed by human connection from birth, he likely developed this repulsion through his upbringing. His identity and beliefs were deeply intertwined with his blood status. Discovering his ancestry to Salazar Slytherin inflated his ego and sense of self, fuelling his delusions about an "idealised parent image." However, learning about his Muggle father shattered these notions, inducing an identity crisis and internal conflict. This conflict manifested in his actions, such as punishing his father and changing his name.
Rejection by the family he sought further shattered his grandiose self-image, deepening his mental breakdown. This rejection likely made him feel repulsed by the human connection he sought, leading him to view himself as above such needs. Despite his heritage being a construct to fuel his false-self, the search for a parent and creation of an "idealised parent image" is common among children lacking parental figures. This behaviour signifies Riddle's inherent humanity and need for connection, which he suppressed following the shattering of his idealised image.
According to Freud, human behaviour is more influenced by the unconscious mind rather than the conscious one. The unconscious mind, filled with painful memories, tries to protect the conscious mind by hiding them, influences attitudes, behaviours, and character. For Riddle, the painful memories of his corrupted heritage resurfaced, despite his unconscious mind's attempts to hide them. He then attempted to eradicate his past self, exemplified by his transformation into Lord Voldemort and his agenda concerning blood status.
This brings us to the final point: in eradicating his past, Riddle attempted to portray himself as devoid of human needs through his new persona, Lord Voldemort. ( in all honesty he done the opposite by doing that, just really announced his fear of his own humanity and his disgust of it.)
These points, stemming from his past, suggest that Riddle is most likely aromantic. While he is capable of love, albeit in an unhealthy way, he sees himself above the need for it and suppresses any potential need under the guise of repulsion due to the rejection he faced. TLDR : Tom Riddle is in fact Aromantic, and that was more or less caused by him getting his feelings hurt and choosing to suppress / act like he does not need humanity at all. Just going back to Anon at the beginning talking about how Riddle was a romantic, (which he was, it's a universal fact at this point) I do think it's hilarious how he chose the most 'teenage girl' items for his horcruxes. Diary boy really wanted to go all out and I can respect it.

the nights coalition
this is a ramble about the night coalition. about the operatives to be exact.
they had a lot of potential. so many potentially amazing characters, yet they barely got expanded on aside from the names. like for example;
guess this dudes name.
Emotionful_day. I randomly got hyperfixated on them, but the only information about their personality (somewhat) is their name and the psychology analysis.
(from the wiki-)
Emotionful_Night has been seen going from 100 to 0 and 0 to 100 much like Horrid_Night. Emotionful is not seen talking about killing and sacrificing as much, and he seems to be the most loyal to Horrid_Night out of all of the Night Operatives.’
like PLEASE give them more..Days union fandom please hear me..
I understand that is the whole point of their names, Unstable_day is unstable, Emotionless_day is emotionless, but I would KILL for more on their personalities. if only pedophiles didnt exist.
I would kill for a good continuation. or just a rewrite! (hell, maybe I could make one..) but please. give them more than just a name.

Little spoiler with psychological analysis.
You see right through me - how often have I heard this. You know that moment when...psychological traumas surface and in front of you stands not an adult, but a frightened child? Of any gender. At such moments I think - oh no...what happened to you then...
This slips into some phrases that are not typical of self-sufficient adults. Someone calls this "ability" to see people from the inside something like "people scanners" or simply "scanning". I would call it the usual creation of a cause-and-effect relationship and the ability to analyze. Otherwise, the simplest things will seem like magic.
Sometimes we take on social roles that are too big for us. Sometimes these are useful because they can become a growth point and motivation to develop. But often it works in the opposite direction and we simply break under the weight of this role. And there is disappointment in ourselves, hatred, exactingness due to inflated expectations. And the fear that others will see this weakness. Life hack for loved ones who have such people around - never focus on their failures, it will kill them.
If... if you understand that even superheroes can be out of shape, that they can have days when they cry into their pillow all night from helplessness, from the desire to give up their role, but at the same time they are torn to pieces by the thought "then I will let the others down and be a loser in their eyes, but I can't do this anymore", then you will be able to hear the answer to what they really want.
But it often happens that due to too long a stay in the conditions of "you are my hero, justify this title" they stop feeling and hearing their own desires. They do not know what they want and feverishly push responsibility for the choice onto others.
When you accept such a person in any state, and not only in moments of success, it causes a very strong attachment in them. Sometimes - suffocating with mistrust and jealousy. This is a sincere fear of losing this all-accepting connection, where you are not judged for who you are even in moments of weakness. Such people are in dire need of psychological security, a kind of "home" for the soul.
And with such people there will be endless tests like "do you really love me?" Such relationships require a lot of patience. I immediately remember the first years of my life with my husband. We traveled a lot by train and one day I fell asleep, and he came out of the compartment at that moment. I woke up, and he was gone. At that moment, I calmly decided that several years of life together were a figment of my imagination. That is, getting from hell to heaven, you will involuntarily pinch yourself constantly, not believing that you have ended up in normal human conditions.
Let's cross our fingers for Arthur - this nice guy hides great potential under a layer of self-doubt and self-criticism.
