P2 Wanda who is in her own room feels a ginormous amount of sadness from y/n room to find out what’s going on. Yn and Wanda both have crushes on each other but, despite yn wanting to be with someone she wonders who would find her attractive and would actually want to be with her, and thinks she’s not worthy of Wanda despite how much she wants to be with her. Cuddles galore and Wanda being the angel and dream girl she is. Please and thank you, this is something I experience so can’t wait for this

Part 1

A/N: I have recently discovered if i don’t write for too long i start to go insane, how did i live before this

“Are you okay?!” You asked, propping yourself up by putting one hand on either side of Wanda’s head and doing a mini pushup. Wanda looked up at you, breathless and flustered, you caught a slight blush on her cheeks. 

“I think so,” Wanda answered, slightly stuck. She didn’t want to move exactly, she couldn’t help but let her gaze slip to your slightly parted lips, missing your gaze slipping to her lips.

You took in a breath and got up, reaching a hand out for Wanda to take. She let you help her up and stood sheepishly at the side of your bed as you picked up the fallen blanket and stuffed animal while hastily trying to wipe the tears off your face. 

“So, what’s up?” You asked, sitting down on the edge of your bed cross legged, looking up at Wanda through slightly red eyes and trying your best to fake a smile. Wanda gave you a soft smile before sitting down next to you and placing one hand on your knee. 

“You don’t have to pretend for me.” Wanda answered softly, her hand distracting you from her words as she softly rubbed the side of your knee with her thumb. 

“What, I’m, how am I pretending?” You stuttered, slightly flustered as a small blush took over your face, you wiped again at your eyes. 

“You’re pretending you’re not alone.” Wanda answered, still stroking the side of your knee and trying to look into your eyes. You sniffled slightly before answering. 

“I’m not alone,” You gave a small smile before gesturing to her. “You’re here.” Wanda raised an eyebrow and gave you a skeptical look, you sighed in response. 

“You know what I mean.” Wanda’s accent slipping into her statement a bit made you smile a bit. 

“Yeah, it’s just,” You took in a deep breath before trying to explain. “I just see all of these pictures of couples cuddling and being super cute with matching fuzzy socks and everything.” You and Wanda both paused when you saw the two of you were actually wearing matching fuzzy socks, Wanda blushed slightly before returning her attention back to you. 

“And I just, I want to have that with someone, but then reality hits like a slap on my face,” You sighed and looked down at your hands. “The reality is who would want to be with me? Who would find me, of all people, attractive and beautiful?” You asked, voice broken as you raised both your hands slightly, giving Wanda a small broken smile which made Wanda’s heart break. 

“Y/n, look at me.” Wanda said softly, when you didn’t she gently hooked one finger under your chin and lifted your face to look at her. “I think you’re beautiful and attractive.” Wanda saw your blush and smiled softly at you, you looked into her soft green eyes and sighed. 

“You’re just saying that because you’re my best friend.” You sighed, pulling away, Wanda tilted her head slightly at you before taking in a deep breath. 

“I’m not just saying that as your best friend,” Wanda whispered, you looked at her in confusion but let her continue. “I’m saying that as someone who would want to be with you.” 

Your heart skipped a small beat when you heard those words fall from her lips. You remembered having a crush on Wanda the second she walked through the compound doors. She became your best friend quickly, little did you know she developed a crush on you the more you two talked and hung out. In her opinion, you were the most beautiful person she knew, it broke her heart to see you didn’t think so. 

Wanda’s anxiety rose when you didn’t say anything, she instantly thought you didn’t feel the same and thought you were weird. She considered saying something but decided not to, instead quickly read your mind and saw her feelings were returned, you just didn’t know what to say for once. 

Dork.

“Can I kiss you?” Wanda asked, snapping you out of your trance. You saw the hesitance in her eyes and grinned, a prominent tomato blush taking over your face. 

Instead of answering her question, you surged forward and captured her lips with yours, one hand coming up to cup her face. Your legs uncrossed from under you as your lips gently moved over Wanda’s, after her shock wore off she kissed you back, reaching out for your waist and gently pulling you closer until you were sitting in her lap, kissing her almost feverishly. 

“Here I thought someone died.” Steve joked from the doorway, you pulled away, almost panting and both of your faces flushed and red. 

“What happened?” Vision asked, walking up behind Steve to see you sitting comfortable in Wanda’s lap and your hand on her face. “Well that was... unexpected.” he stated. 

“Shut up vis.” You quipped, your hand falling from Wanda’s face to her side, stroking her waist softly. 

Wanda flicked her wrist and slammed the door shut on their faces, turning back to you and smiling up at you, resting her chin on your shoulder softly. 

“WE HEARD A SCREAM!” Steve yelled from behind the door. You rolled your eyes, Wanda practically groaned and nuzzled into your shoulder, you laughed at the action and Wanda couldn’t help the small smile on her face. 

“Still feeling lonely?” Wanda asked softly, pulling away from your shoulder to look up at you, arms softly tugging you closer to her. 

“Not with you around.” You answered, yawning loudly after, stretching before looking down at Wanda with a soft smile, your tears completely gone. 

“You really should sleep.” Wanda advised, stroking the side of your waist gently with her thumb, causing your breath to hitch slightly. 

“True.” You shrugged and slid off Wanda’s lap and lay down on your bed, looking up sleepily at Wanda who was about to get up and leave. “Stay? Please?” You pleaded softly, taking her wrist to stop her from leaving. 

Wanda smiled at the action and at you, her heart feeling so full when she looked at you. She nodded and lay down beside you, you snuggled into her almost immediately, you were ridiculously touch starved even though you won’t admit it. Wanda wrapped one arm around your waist, pulling you on top of her slightly as your neck rested on top of her shoulder, your arm wrapped around her waist as you tangled your legs together. 

“Hey can you switch off my alarm?” You asked softly. 

Wanda nodded and reached for your phone, quickly accessing it as her fingerprint was already on your phone. The first thing she saw was your pinterest open to one picture of some random couple snuggled on a bed and sleeping, in the exact same position the two of you were in right now. 

You saw her looking at it and looked for some sort of reaction, either she would think you were weird, creepy, or just lonely. None of them better than the others. Instead, Wanda smiled softly at the picture when she realized the two of you were reenacting it. She kissed the top of your head before quickly switching off the alarm and placing your phone on the bedside table. 

“There.” She murmured, turning so she could wrap her other arm around your waist and look at you. You looked up at her and gave a sleepy smile, making her heart skip a beat. 

“How did you know I was crying?” You asked, your voice sleepy and tired. “I mean the doors and walls are mostly soundproof.”

“I’m kind of a mind reader.” Wanda answered, reaching up one hand to play with your hair, you frowned slightly when you realized Wanda looked inside your head. 

“Your lonely wishes were loud enough for me to feel them.” Wanda explained, twirling one strand of hair between her fingers. 

“Mm okay, this was a one time pass though.” You murmured into her shoulder, blinking slowly as you started to fall asleep. Wanda giggled a bit before stroking your cheek and returning to playing with your hair. 

“Dork.” She joked, watching your breathing slow drastically. “Goodnight y/n/n.” Wanda whispered, leaning forwards and kissing your forehead before leaning back and letting her exhaustion take over.

“Your dork,” You murmured with a soft smile, hearing Wanda chuckle softly. “Goodnight Wanda.”

Wanda smiled and looked down at you, watching you sleep, more relaxed than ever. She was happy she could make you happy and relaxed. Honestly, she found it hard to believe you thought no one found you attractive or beautiful, there were many more people than her who believed you were beautiful. And now you were hers, It was all she wanted in her life, you were all she wanted in her life.

Y/n stepped in, letting the comforting smell of coffee and books wash over her and take her through the threshold of her favorite place.

She gasped in wonder at seemingly endless shelves of books. It looked much bigger than the last time she’d been here- which was years ago. She just never had the time anymore. 

Just then, she was pulled back into reality by a friendly-looking man. He was tall, with long, brown hair that was pulled back into a bun. He had no name tag, unlike the rest of the employees. Y/n thought that he must be the owner.

“Hello! My name’s Bucky. If you need any help finding anything, I’m within shouting distance.” He smiled warmly, and y/n returned the gesture in kind.

“Thank you. This place is a lot bigger than the last time I came here,” she voiced out loud.

“I bought this place two years ago, and decided to expand it to make room for a café in the back.” 

“Coffee and books- my two favorite things in one place.” Bucky laughed.

“Alright, I’ll leave you to your browsing then?”

She nodded, then walked into one of the aisles, running her fingers along the spines of the books. It really had been a while since she last came here. She missed everything about the place. Although bigger, the atmosphere was the same, and it still felt like home to y/n.

Almost immediately, she zeroed in on one of her all-time favorite books- The Great Gatsby. She picked the book up and opened it to the very first page, immediately sucked into the world of Nick, Gatsby, and the Buchanans.

“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” The voice came from behind y/n. She whirled around, her nose nearly touching the chest of a man dressed in a striped white shirt and khakis. He was just a little taller than Bucky, but had much shorter, blonde hair. To be honest, he looked a little bit like Captain America.

“That’s my favorite quote. From the book, I mean.”

“Mine too,” he agreed. After a long, awkward pause where y/n stared at the guy’s shoulder, trying to avoid looking at his face(well, in her defense, it would hurt her neck to look up any higher) he asked, “What other books do you like?”

She started fidgeting with the ring on her finger. Her quota of normal social interaction had been filled by the time she was done talking with Bucky. 

“Anything by Jane Austen. And Rick Riordan.”

“Rick Riordan?” he said incredulously.

“Don’t judge! I know his books are more for… middle schoolers, but they’re amazing, okay?” she defended.

He threw his hands up in surrender and laughed. “Anyway, I shouldn’t judge.” His tone turned a little sadder while he said that. “Anyways, I’ll leave you to your shopping.” Y/n stared at the retrieving figure of the man, unsure of what to think of the encounter.

Y/n had spent a couple of hours at the bookstore, carefully selecting around five novels, until she was finally ready to check out. By that time, it was nearing 7 o’clock.

She placed the books next to the register. Bucky, standing behind the counter, exclaimed, “Only five books? You spent hours here, picking out only five books?”

She blushed, and sensing her discomfort, Bucky said, “It’s alright doll- I was only joking.”

“I knew that.” They both laughed as he rang up her total.

“Alright have a nice day!” Bucky winked at her, and she turned around from the counter, walking towards the exit. 

Once she reached the glass door, she could see millions of drops of water falling from the sky to the ground. To y/n’s horror, it was raining, and to make matters worse, she’d walked all the way here.

Guess it couldn’t hurt to stay a little while longer. She started walking to the back into the store, hoping to wait out the rain.

“Back so soon?” Bucky called out to her.

“It started raining, and I can’t risk getting my brand new books wet.”

He nodded. “Wise. You’re more than welcome to sit in the back, maybe get a cup of coffee.”

“Thank you, I’ll do that.”

Y/n quickly ordered a black coffee, found a booth, and opened up the first page of one of her newly acquired books.

“There is a tradition in our kingdom, one all castes of demon and human follow…”

“Waiting out the rain?” It was the guy from earlier. “Mind if I join?” 

Y/n moved her bag off of the table to give him more room to sit.

“I’m Steve, by the way.”

“My name’s y/n,” she responded.

He nodded at the book in her hands. “I can tell you’re a fan of the Y/A genre.”

“Yeah… I think it’s because Y/A authors don’t use as many pretentious words. Plus, I like feeling like a kid again.”

“Miss the glory days?”

“They weren’t exactly glorious, but they were a hell of a lot more simple.”

“I can relate. Didn’t have to pay taxes back then- it was the dream.” Y/n laughed.

“That, and I didn’t know how stressful having a job would be. If I could, I’d go back, maybe choose a different line of work,” she added.

“What do you do now?”

Y/n took a small sip of her coffee, then answered. “I’m the public relations executive at Stark Industries. It’s a good job, but it’s stressful and I rarely get a day off.”

Immediately after she said that, Steve asked, “You work with Tony Stark?” It seemed that the name Stark made him uncomfortable.

“No, but he is one of my best friends. Pepper, his wife, runs the company. What about you?” She leaned in closer over the table then continued. “What helps you pay the bills?”

“Nothing actually.” Whereas she’d gotten closer, he put his back on the bench. “I used to be in the army, but now… I’m in between jobs,” he elaborated.

“Army man,” she smirked and wiggled her eyebrows, making them both giggle.

“Anyways… what’s your favorite color?”

The conversation quickly turned into one of those talks- you know, the kind that goes on forever. After a while, the barista at the counter left, and Bucky came by to tell them that they could stay, as long as Steve locked up when they left. It was 8 o’clock- closing time.

“Are you two… friends?”

“Yeah. Buck’s my best friend- since childhood, actually.” That explained why he was letting them stay after hours.

“Lucky,” y/n said, wishing she’d known someone that long- other than her family, of course. Then, she continued asking Steve questions.

“What’s your most irrational fear?” y/n asked.

“Birds.”

“No way!”

“Yep. It’s those eyes…” he shuddered. “You?”

And on, and on, and on it went. They even touched deeper topics, like y/n’s mom leaving when she was four and Steve losing a friend in Iraq. This continued until y/n’s phone buzzed. It was from work- she needed to write something to give to the press about the September Foundation.

“You’ve got to be shitting me,” she muttered.

“Language.”

“Did you just-” Y/n laughed as Steve turned bright red.

“I know, it just slipped out. You have to leave?”

“Unfortunately, I do,” y/n threw her coffee cup away and started to pack up her stuff. “See? No days off for me.”

“Walk you to the door?”

“Yes please.”

They walked in silence until they were a couple feet from the exit.

Steve stopped them and started fidgeting with his hands. “I was wondering… if you’d like to go out with me sometime?”

She nodded, then held a hand out for his phone. “Let me punch in my number.” 

“Until later then.”

“Until later,” she echoed as he raised a hand in farewell. Until later.

[Steve’s POV]

Once he saw y/n take a turn around the corner, the smile on his face immediately dropped. He had to call Bucky.

He picked up on the first ring. “How was your date, Tiger?”

“Great, but Buck, she’s friends with Tony Stark.”

Bucky’s tone became serious. “I hope you aren’t gonna meet again.”

“Yeah, we are.”

“And if she finds out what you did?”

“She won’t.” He hung up. For his sake and hers, he hoped to God the truth would never come out.

'Lady Bird': How Greta Gerwig gave wings to her Oscar-buzzing directorial debut

Lady Bird, the solo directorial debut of actress and writer Greta Gerwig, has inspired the kind of response every first-time filmmaker dreams about. With a 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a largely sold-out opening weekend, the deeply observant, funny, and moving Lady Bird is off to a strong start in the run-up to awards season. Gerwig, naturally, is beyond thrilled. “It’s extraordinary. I’m over the moon,” she told Yahoo Entertainment, going on to describe all the texts and photos she received from screenings across the country.  As personal as Lady Bird is for the writer-director, it feels just as personal for the audience; not an easy feat, especially given that the film industry has largely shunned realistic portraits of teenage girls. The movie takes place between 2003 and 2004, following a Sacramento teenager (Saoirse Ronan) as she completes high school and begins her freshman year of college. Our heroine is named Christine, but much to the annoyance of her mother Marion (Laurie Metcalf), she insists on going by Lady Bird. (When a teacher at her Catholic school asks, “Is that your given name?”, she replies, “I gave it to myself. It’s given to me, by me.”) The new name is one of Lady Bird’s many attempts to pin down her own fluttering identity; others include joining the drama club, dating two very different boys (Lucas Hedges and Timothee Chalamet), defying her Catholic upbringing, questioning the closeness of her best friend (Beanie Feldstein), and most importantly, navigating the relationship between herself and her mother as she prepares to leave home. Though its story is simple, Lady Bird contains multitudes; complex issues like personal versus public faith, the dissolution of the middle class, and the anxiety of post-September 11 America simmer beneath the story of a strong-willed daughter and her loving, infuriating, all-too-familiar mother. Yahoo Entertainment spoke with Gerwig about bringing Lady Bird’s vivid world to the big screen, Dave Matthews Band songs and all.

Yahoo Movies: This movie covers two of my very favorite themes, religion and musical theater. Greta Gerwig: Me too!

Tell me why those were touchstones for you. Lady Bird sort of moonlights in musical theater as she’s on her way up. I was a “musical theater kid.” I did tons of musicals. I loved musicals far more than I actually had the talent to be in musicals. But I think it was the vividness of the emotions in musicals, because it really is that thing of, when you feel so much, you have to sing. That was something I very much related to and loved. And my love goes back to really young!  I saw a production of Starlight Express when I was five and my mind exploded. I waited for the double cassette to arrive at the Tower Records from the original cast recording. I mean, I was very invested in it. So that was the baseline.

And then for me, being that person, Stephen Sondheim was king. So I had written [the Sondheim musical] Merrily We Roll Along into the script but I didn’t really know if I would be able to get permission to use it. I wrote him a letter, and I was lucky enough that my producer Scott Rudin is also a theater producer, and he got the letter to Stephen.

Did you actually have a conversation with Stephen Sondheim about the film? I still have never met him! I’ll ask for it soon. I’ll call in that favor.

What about the theme of religion? I went to Catholic school. In a way, I think it’s easy to play that for a joke in a film. And it’s not that we don’t have any jokes, but I wanted it to feel like the school was made up of individuals who had their own particular experiences and senses of humor, and that they were in the middle of their own story, because I think sometimes it can get reduced to just the uniform of the priest or the nun, and the rules, and you lose the sense of how there are really interesting people there.

And how each of those people are on a different faith journey. One movie I actually thought of while watching Lady Bird was The Trouble with Angels [the 1966 film about Catholic schoolgirls directed by Ida Lupino, the first woman to be accepted into the Director’s Guild of America]. Oh yeah! Right! That’s so funny, no one’s mentioned that to me before, but that’s true! I mean, I didn’t want to be too — you know, at the end of the film when she walks into the church, it’s not specifically that she is experiencing something religious. But it’s that thing of, [this is] the place that you grew your roots, and the returning, and that there is meaning in it. And to me, religion is fascinating, all religions, because it’s a primary story that people tell themselves about what matters and how to build a moral universe, and how to decide how to move on with your life and what you’re going to do.  To treat that seriously was something I was interested in.

I understand that your first draft was extremely long. So long.

How did you choose which moments and milestones to include? It felt epic, like I’d lived through my entire senior year of high school again, and yet very specific and self-contained. Well, it’s my way to overwrite. I always knew that the core of the story was the love story between a mother and a daughter. The original draft that was so long was called Mothers and Daughters. One way I do it is, I actually try to almost spread it all out like a quilt and look at it like — this sounds completely silly, but do you remember those Magic Eye paintings from the ’90s? They were always at dentists’ offices and stuff? It’s almost like looking at a Magic Eye painting and the story comes out at you.

And then you go through all these revelations. Maybe you’ve had two separate characters that you suddenly realize are the same character. Or some plotline that felt important actually now has fallen away. It’s a very long process. [laughs] But I just kept returning to, how does this tell this story? How does this tell this story of home, how does this tell this story of personhood, how does it tell this love story between a mother and daughter? And that was always what I was asking myself about each scene.

And when I cut something, I would put it in a separate file that said “Cut Things,” and I’d think to myself, “Well, if you really miss it, you can put it back, but why don’t you see if it works without it?” But that’s just the process of writing. You have to kill your darlings.

One thing that this movie really drives home is how teenagers have an incomplete picture of their parents. Yet you managed to show Lady Bird’s version of her mother without cheating the mother out of being a full character. It was really important to me that, even though you’re following Lady Bird and you are in her reality, that you have all these little moments where you’re with the other characters that she doesn’t know about. And it could be as simple as, after they find out the casting of the play, we stay with [Feldstein’s character] Julie for a second to see how much it meant to her that she got this. Or that we’re with the father at the job interview. Or that we see her mother at work with a co-worker. You get these moments where you just can’t know everything.

To me, the scene that’s most vividly that is when her mother fixes the dress and then hangs it up. Because it’s this moment of: your parents do so much that you’ll never know. And the complicated thing about life is that you inevitably won’t appreciate it. [Laughs] And they do it anyway. And they will keep doing it anyway.

You also capture the existence of this kind of quiet, reflective boredom that existed for kids before cell phones and screens were omnipresent.  How did you help your cast to understand that? [Laughs] I know, they’re such a young cast. They never knew a time! Yeah, that was really important to me. The movie is set slightly after when I was in high school, and I definitely wanted it to be in a very soon-after-post-9/11 world, in that we were in the midst of experiencing a national trauma; we were also in a war in Afghanistan; we were getting into a war in Iraq; cell phones and the internet were starting to rise but they weren’t there yet; this erosion of the middle class was speeding up; and it felt, in a way, that I could talk about now without having to set it now. Because I think if you set a movie now, I don’t know how you do it without having a ton of smartphones. And I think they’re just tremendously uncinematic, they’re not fun to shoot or look at.

And one thing I do on my sets — I do this anyway, this is not time-space specific, and I stole this from Noah Baumbach: No cell phones on set. If you need to make a phone call or text someone, you can leave the set. So none of the cast ever brought their cell phones on set, none of the crew. Because I think there’s just nothing that makes you more bummed out than looking over and seeing someone texting while you’re trying to concentrate. And the truth is, I think most people find it to be a relief to not have it with them. I think they think, “Oh God, thank God, I don’t have to look at it.”

But some of it was talking about, before the internet, you wouldn’t know where everybody was all the time. If you wanted to find someone, you’d have to go to the coffee shop where you think they might be and hang out there until they showed up. That was a thing that would structure time.

And also, that you wouldn’t have access to music and movies and taste through the internet. Now everybody has Spotify playlists and Pinterest and all this stuff. And really at that moment, it was still much more of a monoculture, in terms of how people received culture. You listened to the radio and you read magazines. Now it’s like everything can be so specified to your niche. And then it was kind of like, looking for what felt like it was special to you in the context of it being the thing everyone was listening to.

Yes, because I was thinking about “Crash” by the Dave Matthews Band, and how it was a big song when I was in high school in the late ’90s. My first thought when the song showed up in the film was, “Would they still have been listening to this in 2003?” And then I realized, of course they would have, because pop culture stuck around longer back then. You didn’t have the internet giving you all these things that pop up and immediately fade. I was really conscious, especially in the music, that I didn’t all want it to be from 2003. We have the Justin Timberlake song (“Cry Me a River”), which did come out in late 2002, so that was exactly in that time. But Dave Matthews and Alanis were still on the radio, especially on the “alternative” station. Do you remember the alternative station? Every town had one. It actually wasn’t even until I was in high school that a real, genuine Top 40 station came to Sacramento. And it was 107.9 The End. It played chart-topper hits but it wasn’t specifically hip-hop, or it wasn’t specifically alternative. And I remember it was a big moment of like, “Oh, this is playing the hits.”

Are you familiar with the website Letterboxd? It allows you to track the movies you’ve seen, and it allows users to create their own genres for grouping films. One of my favorite genres that someone made is “Greta Gerwig Can’t Make the Rent,” and it includes Frances Ha, Mistress America, and 20th Century Women.   [Laughs] That’s really funny.

It is! But I also thought it was interesting that financial anxiety has been a recurring theme in the films you’ve written or starred in.

Yeah well, I think it’s a theme in general. I think Americans have a lot of trouble talking about class. It’s something we don’t want to talk about. It’s funny, I read that 70 percent of Americans describe themselves as being middle class, and that’s whether they live below the poverty line or they’re in the 1%. There’s this aversion to saying anything about limitations that your financial background gives you. And I think it’s something that I see in action all the time, and it’s a big thing that shapes a lot of people’s lives. And within that, there’s a lot of decisions that get made.

I was very moved by that when I watched [the 2014 Richard Linklater film] Boyhood. The family was OK. Nothing bad happened. But it’s almost like they were three bad breaks from it all falling apart. You could sense it. It was palpable. And I think it’s something I’ve always been interested in exploring.

Before I go, I need to know how much of Merrily We Roll Along you actually staged. Oh, we did about five musical numbers, and they were all amazing. I think if DVD extras still exist, we should do the whole thing.
