AU: Modern Helaegon

Aegon is a troubled one: always picking fights, sleeping with random girls, drinking and smoking, as if nothing is ever enough for him. There's a hole inside of him that needs to be filled and nothing seems to be helping.

He always craved love, but it was rarely given to him. Aegon pushed people away, did stupid things, but there was one person who never looked at him with disappointment, never let him down.

Helaena is a sweet girl, their mother's favorite child. Always helping, cheerful, with a bright smile on her face. She does well in school, especially in biology: she loves animals, plants and insects. Helaena often asks to have more, but her room is already full of cages and plants, and there's no space for more.

She's a careful girl and has a couple of friends, which is enough for her. Helaena enjoys spending time alone in her room, but for some reason she can't shake off the nagging feeling of loneliness. She hides these feelings, tries to not pay attention to them, but it's always there, lurking in the shadows.

It's a good even, that Aegon is always in trouble, always needy, so she ends up spending a lot of time helping him escape their mother's wrath or bandaging his wounds.

Her brother is a mess, he can barely take care of himself and his dog, so she does whatever she can for him. Helaena was fond of being useful.

On one of his birthdays, she gets him a cactus because she wants to share her love, also knowing that her brother will end up killing any other plant. She even signs the pot 'From Hel 💗 Please water me.' He smiles every time he sees it.

On one of the difficult nights, the anxiety catches him. Aegon smokes weed and falls asleep on the desk. His body hurting after the fight with some dude in the club, eyes red, hand hugging the pot, nails painted with black polish. Also Helaena's work.

Little sister finds him like that, with the desk lamp on, she touches his shoulder lightly, calls his name, waking him up. Carefully examines new bruises and cuts before helping clean them up and apply bandages. He looks at her differently, there's something soft and vulnerable in his eyes, as if he sees her for the first time.

Helaena feels strange, cheeks flash from his intense gaze, from his hands suddenly holding her waist, slowly traveling down to her hips. Aegon presses his forehead against hers gently, his breathing uneven. She froze, still in his arms, butterflies fluttering in her stomach.

Before she can say anything or push him away, his lips capture hers in the light but insistent kiss.
