seventeen, or forty, or nine! :^)
here is number 9 - bookstore AU. went for more of a meetcute vibe than either of them working in a bookshop but *handwave*
Buck's tried three book stores, two of which got him blank looks, and one an apology about being out of stock and an offer to order in. Karen's birthday drinks are tomorrow night, so that's a bust. He's already got her actual gift, but he saw the book title in a list of queer non-fiction recommendations that he was browsing the other night for…reasons he's kind of feeling his way around the edges of, and it jumped out at him immediately. The reviews are kinda mixed, but the title is too good to pass up, and he knows Karen will get a kick out of it even if she doesn't wind up loving the book itself.
His final stop is Skylight Books in Los Feliz and in the crowded shop, with shelves of all heights and at all angles, it takes him a second to find the queer section mainly because - as he belatedly realises, a big, bulky guy is blocking the sign as he stands with his arms folded, scanning the shelves. Buck ducks towards it, sees the title of the book, a single copy whose cover proudly proclaims Moby Dyke: An Obsessive Quest to Track Down the Last Remaining Lesbian Bars in America. And then the title is obscured when the guy reaches out his big hand and scoops it up, and Buck blurts, "Wait, wait, no!"
The guy looks at him, eyebrows up, dark blue eyes a picture of puzzlement and Buck's reasons for scanning those lists of queer literature and movies and history crystallise sharply. He's gorgeous. He's so tall and so broad and his eyes are so pretty and his jaw is so stubbly and strong and Buck wants to taste it. He also really, really wants that book.
"Hi," Buck says breathlessly. "I'm really sorry, but I need that book."
The guy glances down to the book, back up to Buck.
"I hate to pull playground rules, but finders keepers, man."
"No, wait, you don't understand, it's a birthday present."
"Same," the guy says, starting to step around Buck and towards the checkout. Buck's heart sinks at the imminent disappearance of both the book and the guy.
"No, no, c'mon, the birthday drinks are tomorrow, you've got time to find another copy, right?"
"That's a coincidence," the guy says. "My friend's birthday drinks are also tomorrow. Sorry."
"No, wait, like - look, I saw the book on this list of like - interesting queer non-fiction, and uh, my friend - well, my friend's wife originally, but my friend too now, she's so cool and so interesting and I think I gotta ask her questions about like. Being queer. So this would be a really great segue into talking to her about how I'm like…ninety percent sure I'm bisexual - " Some reflex takes over and Buck does a quick up and down glance of the guy's body. " - ninety nine percent sure, okay, so like. You gotta help me out, man."
The guy blinks, something amused in the small curve of his lips. "No dice, buddy. No one gave me a coming out book shield, so. You'll do fine."
"Aw, c'mon, please! Karen's so cool, and I - "
"Wait, Karen Wilson?"
Buck blinks. "Uh. Yeah? What the hell?"
"I used to work with Hen."
Buck's head is filled with static, running through a mental rolodex of people Hen or Chim have ever mentioned as predating him at the 118. There's always the chance this guy is a pharmaceutical rep, but he definitely has more of a firefighter's build.
"I work with Hen right now!" Buck says.
The guy looks him up and down, tilts his head. "Wait. Are you the - the disaster magnet probie?"
"Yes!" Buck says, way more pleased than he should be. "I mean, not anymore, I haven't been a probie in years, but uh. That's me! Evan Buckley!"
"Tommy," the guy says, and holds out the book. "Going on what I know, there's a non-zero chance the store collapses in on us if you don't get your way, so. Here you go. Good luck with the bisexuality."
"It, uh - it could be a joint present?" Buck suggests, his mouth taking over.
Tommy's eyebrows go up again. "Little early for that, isn't it?"
"Get coffee with me, then," Buck offers, his heart in his mouth. He's asking out a guy. He's asking out the hottest guy he's ever seen. He's asking out the hottest guy he's ever seen and if he crashes and burns he's going to have to see him tomorrow at Karen's birthday drinks and -
"Sure," Tommy says, half-smirk broadening into a smile that lights up his whole face. "I'd like that, Evan."

The official still and the video of them shooting the scene that it's from has me thinking (yes it's a five second clip and one photo but I once wrote an entire theory about why Diego Hargreeves speaks Spanish like a native speaker based on a single word said by an extra, overthinking these things is what I do).
Buck is the last out of the engine and lags behind everyone else. His hair is unstyled and his turnout coat is open. We've been all expecting his spinning out to take the form of him being reckless as hell and presumed he's going to be harsh on Ravi again. But what if it's the opposite.
Buck is so heartbroken and so overwhelmed with his abandonment issues he sinks fully into depression to the point of not caring about anything anymore. Like, he does his job fine, well even, because he's still Buck, but the passion and the (pardon the pun) fire is gone. He's just going through the motions, does whats needed, what he's told to do, but that desire to help people and sace everyone that makes him go above and beyond isn't there anymore. He will still be reckless with himself at times, but it's not motivated by caring so much that he puts others above himself like it usually is, it's due to lack of care for himself whatsoever, because everything in his life suddenly feels so pointless and meaningless that he nothing, including his own safety, matters. It's not just thinking he matters so little to everyone else that he's expendable, it's fully mattering to himself so little that he's expendable.
No matter what you do, bad shit will happen. You can do your best to be a good person, someone of worthy of love, but that doesn't stop your brother from dying from cancer, doesn't stop your sister getting abused, doesn't stop you from getting pinned under a ladder truck and almost losing your job and chosen family in the aftermath, doesn't stop your best friend getting shot, doesn't stop your sister getting post partum depression so bad she almost dies, doesn't stop you getting hit by lightning, doesn't stop your sister getting kidnapped, twice and, most importantly, it doesn't stop everyone from leaving you over and over again. No matter what you will end up alone. So really what's the point?

Bucktommy Fluffebruary
DAY 18: TRYING SOMETHING NEW
@bucktommyfluffebruary
"Whose idea was this again?" Tommy's eyes ran over the massive wall in front of them, with several colourful foothold.
"Come on Tommy. This is gonna be fun. Besides, it's something new." Buck tried to cheer up his boyfriend.
"I am burning that book as soon as we get home." Tommy promised himself.
"Yeah sure, if you can feel your arms when we get back." Buck chuckled.
Tommy did not sign up for this. Oh wait, he did.
"Excuse me."
"Come on, let's go."
The only appreciable thing to come out of this was to see Evan in that harness. The way those straps- Woah Kinard. Public space. Nasty thoughts, nasty thoughts.
Tommy got himself strapped in as well. Evan had started without him, his long legs giving him an unfair advantage.
"You're doing great Evan." Tommy cheered on from below, no matter how much he hated this.
"Yeah yeah. Your turn, Tommy." Evan called.
Taking a deep breath, Tommy rubbed some chalk onto his hands, and grabbing one of the holds, slowly started heaving himself up towards Evan, who just gave him a bright smile. That filled his entire body with a renewed vigor.
Although Tommy felt like he was in pretty good condition, having beaten several other firefighters of his own age, seeing how athletic Evan was really was mind boggling. It was hot, not gonna lie. By the time Tommy had made it up half the wall, he had already scaled it, and was waiting for him legs swinging.
By the time Tommy had finally made it up the wall, his arms and legs were burning plus his fingertips had gone numb. Sitting next to Evan, he shook his hands, trying to get some blood circulation back into them until Evan just rolled his eyes and grabbed his hands, massaging them.
"That was awesome. You were awesome, I mean." Buck was looking at him like he hung the moon and stars. Despite being together for this long, Evan's praise was still hard to digest, even after all this time.
"Me? You just climbed this giant wall in like a few minutes. You're like Spider-Man."
"Oh shut up you." Evan lightly nudged him. "I can't believe you know someone who owns a climbing gym." Just as Tommy waved to Jerome, his friend who he called in a favour to.
"Just like I always tell you. I got a guy."
Evan rolled his eyes before smacking Tommy playfully.
"So, what do you think about it?"
"About what?"
"The climbing. Would you be open to do it again?"
"I kind of want to say no. But if you want obviously we can come."
"Oh thank goodness. I didn't like it very much either." Evan breathed a sigh of relief. "I think I'll take your advice and burn that book now."
"Although, I did like seeing you in the harness." Tommy winked.
And the coy smile directed towards him was everything.

fire and ice (and all that comes between)
Words: 6,856 | Chapters 6/17 | Rated: G
Alternate Universe | Ex-hockey player Tommy Kinard | Firefighter Evan "Buck" Buckley | POV Tommy Kinard | Ice Skating | Pining | Misunderstandings | Slow burn
Chapter 6 now up!
He's moping on the sofa later that evening with ice cream and his favourite trashy romcom when his phone rings. "Saw you visited the hospital," Sal says and Tommy can picture him standing there grinning, a smug glint in his eye. "Yeah, and?" "And you weren't visiting sick kids according to the lookyloos sneaking photos." Tommy sighs. "What's your point, Sal?" "Got a new man friend you haven't told me about, huh?"

I will always find it funny how buck is seen as the extrovert and eddie as the introvert when the reality is that buck has like one actual best friend (who he’s in love with) meanwhile eddie makes friends with everyone and anyone like nothing and he lives for all the gossip

cowboy!buck !
Tumblr media
enjoy a rough sketch of a curly haired cowboy buck with his bandana on while i yap about some hcs i have for the yeehaw 118 (mostly buck for this post)
buck was born and raised in pennsylvania, similar to his modern upbringing, except at the age of 12, right after maddie moves away with doug, he runs away from the family he feels abandoned him -- or moreso, the parents he never really felt he had in the first place.
at 13, he's adopted into the 118 gang by bobby, after narrowly escaping death at the hands of a corrupt lawman. bobby saves his life, and ends up adopting the reckless, angry teenager that is evan 'buck' buckley.
his horse is named calida! translating to hot/fiery in latin, she's a spirited and (you guessed it) fiery blonde chestnut thoroughbred, with a temperament that has always matched buck's.
the bandana he wears (although not coloured in this image) is navy blue! i plan on giving the entire gang a navy blue bandana somewhere in their design to tie them all together.
to no one's surprise, buck and eddie will in fact end up pursuing a relationship. i'm a buddie shipper 4 life. they carry out so many jobs for the gang and are a notorious duo. (which makes me think... buddie wanted posters??)
also just a small extra note: i probably won't end up writing much of this au, mostly because i'm more of an illustrator than i am writer, but if anyone ends up writing anything based on my silly little headcanons? i would LOVE to read! also would love to hear any thoughts anyone has!!

This is a buddie shooting post. Bear with me, I've had an epiphany. If anyone else thought of this I need you here, we need to talk.
In greek mythology, eros, the deity of love (more like all consuming romantic desire/yearning) carries a bow and arrow and sneaky fucker shoots unsuspecting people. Once they are shot the person standing right in front of them becomes the object of their eros, regardless of rhyme or reason. And it's a beautiful poetic metaphor for the painful sudden realisation of fuck I am in love with this person, this feels like dying, why them, how the fuck did I not notice until it felt like dying. Now, Eddie motherfucking Diaz who was shot with a fucking bullet, with Buck standing right in front of him, had to experience the feeling of actually nearly dying. You cannot convince me in a million years he did not also simultaneously experience the metaphorical death of realising he is in love with the person right in front of him. It's too good and too obvious to not be what was happening in that scene. For the love of christ bring the motherfucking shooting discussion back season 8 I beg!!!!

I don't know who needs to read this, but people who are pro Buck and Tommy having a healthy relationship with good representation on screen, whether it goes the distance or not, are not automatically against Eddie having a coming out arc.
Like guys chill the fuck out.
I would argue that 7x05 had too many storylines and felt rushed. I'd honestly rather have fewer stories an Episode and each is given proper time (so they don't skip over shit like Buck and Eddie talking post basket ball, or Chim and Buck talking post punch, or Bobby and Athena talking post ship disaster etc). They actually showed the Karen and Hen talks after the Eva storylines and that's so important and good.
Tommy isn't getting screen time without a main with him so stop pretending he is. He's a background character who is currently there to prop up other people's storylines. It's unlikely he will ever be a main as they already have 7 of them. Can you think if you've ever seen a Karen or a Ravi or a Lucy or a Taylor storyline that wasn't there to really be about one of the mains? No.
I am literally seeing BuckTommy enjoyers having to fucking preface their posts with the fact they obviously ship buddie too just so they don't get abused. It's genuinely disgusting that people are more fixated on their specific (and I would defo class it as fetishistic at this point with the obsession some people have with buddie) ship that they would actively damage other people's enjoyment of the show.
This accusation that people don't care bout buddie anymore because Tommy has kissed Buck and Tommy is white is fucking insane. This fandom regularly accuses anyone who says good things about Buck or Bobby of being racist. Maybe, and hear me out, people are happy that they are getting some bi representation? People who have been pro buddie since 2x01 are getting sent hate because they are happy that a character has come out, despite never turning against buddie.
It's literally normal to be watching a show and be like "yes, I want characters X & Y to end up together but currently they aren't and that's not an issue for me". It's a fictional show.
I want Eddie to get a coming out story line and I would not be upset if it didn't revolve around Buck because 1. Eddie is his own person, and 2. I KNOW that if it did revolve around Buck, you guys would immidiately say it's worthless because it's not an Eddie story but actually a story about the "white boy". Like you literally cannot have it both ways.
You can't beg for coming out story lines and then say "wait that's the wrong person they're kissing." It's a coming out story line. It's literally a gateway to a whole new world of stories in the show.
Chill out, go outside, maybe try to enjoy the show you claim to love instead of shitting on it, the actors and the other fans

it's so wild to look at s1!buck compared to s7!buck
#obvs he went from fuckboy to loveboy (rather quick but thats what happens when he realises he wants something bad enough)#which can be paralleled to his bisexual speedrun in 7x04 and 7x05 and also a bit of 7x06. but i'm actually#talking about how he went from the big strong selfless hero protector archetype for abby (but also as a firefighter identity) in s1#to s7 where he's being taken care of in his relationship with tommy and being prioritized by his partner (who also happens#to be a firefighter) which is new and wonderful but there's also no imbalance of care; tommy is open and honest about how he#feels and buck meets him with open honesty in return - they meet in the middle! - it's just so cathartic for buck's storyline to see#how much he opens himself up to love in s1 and yearns to be wanted as much in return but it doesn't happen (and continues not to)#but with tommy he finally has someone who wants him just as much in return- and moreover we see buck being himself (evan!)#with tommy which is so freeing that he doesn't have to put on the buck persona: he can be goofy and dumb and vulnerable + needy#and tommy wants all of it all of him. i know we haven't seen much of their relationship so far and obvs they're still in the#honeymoon phase - which is why i'm so excited for the more settled phase of their rship (we saw a bit of it in the finale)#to see continued proof of them meeting in the middle. and also more instances of tommy caring for buck and wanting all of buck#but yeh just gimme more of buck being comfortably himself and all that means bc he feels seen and safe and wanted by tommy#.txt#parallels#evan buckley

Bucktommy Fluffebruary
DAY 20 [ALTERNATE PROMPT]: DRUNKEN LOVE CONFESSIONS
@bucktommyfluffebruary
"Tommy, are you drunk?" Buck asked, bewildered.
"Uh, no. No I'm not. Totally sober." Tommy replied. A rustle and a gimme that later, an unknown voice spoke through the phone.
"Hey, this is Jake, Tommy's colleague. He is lying and is very drunk right now, can you come pick him up?"
"Yeah, yeah sure. Where are you exactly?"
"It's a bar." A pause that made Buck think that they were disconnected. "Zing."
Okay, maybe it was really lowkey. He quickly pulled up the maps on his phone and low and behold, Zing actually existed.
"okay. I'll be right there."
"Please. We cannot hear about his beautiful boyfriend anymore."
Woah, that was unexpected.
When Evan reached the bar, he saw Tommy. Really, really giggly Tommy. There was an entire group, presumably firefighters outside, and Tommy was plastered against one. That totally didn't make Buck jealous.
Well, turns out he was jealous over nothing because as soon as Tommy saw him, he basically jumped, plastering himself onto Evan.
"Evaan~" He said, in a sing-song voice.
"So, you're Evan huh. Tommy did a good job describing you." The man, who was probably the one who called him, gave him a once-over.
"He did?"
"Extensively. For a person as private as Kinard, I was surprised by how chatty he was today. Although we learned less about him and more about his amazing boyfriend with the adorable birthmark. There was also some boogie woogie involved which I'll refrain from using."
"That's probably my fault. I told him to open himself a bit more." Evan chuckled, as Tommy's arm was currently around his shoulders.
"Take it from a stranger kid, the way this guy talks about you? You've got something good."
"Jake, stop hounding the poor kid." A woman called out.
She walked up to them and shook Buck's hand.
"Jasmine. I'm the 217's captain."
"Evan Buckley. I'm from the 118."
"We know. Jake was right about him sharing a lot."
They said their goodbye and Evan helped Tommy into the jeep.
"Oooh, this car is nice. Did you get a new car, Evan?" He looked at Evan with an accusatory glare.
"No Tommy. This car is mine."
"Oh good."
They drove in silence, with Tommy occasionally breaking the silence to tell Evan a fun fact. Which Evan had told him during his information binges. The fact that Tommy even remembered all those warmed his heart.
When they reached their home, Evan unbuckled his seatbelt and moved to unbuckle Tommy's when his face was grabbed by Tommy.
"Evan, I need to tell you something." He sounded serious, before breaking out in giggles. "Hehe, squishy face." Shaking his head, he looked into Evan's eyes, almost boring into his very soul and spoke softly, "Evan Buckley, I love you."
Now, they never really had said it out loud, though it remained an unspoken truth but hearing it out loud made Evan was jump with joy.
"Evan, I love you." Tommy's voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
"I love you too, Tommy." Evan smiled, before kissing Tommy on the lips. The kisses grew heated until he forcibly pulled away. They wont be doing in the jeep and certainly not if one of them is drunk.
He wrestled Tommy out of the jeep and into the house. He order the man to go to bed while he brought some Advil and a glass of water for the hangover. When he entered the room, Tommy's boot were still on. Buck didn't know how he got out of his pants, or whether he took his pants off and put them on again, but seeing boots on bed made Evan uncomfortable.
Taking of his boots, Evan settled into the bed and staring at the face of the love of his life, he fell asleep.
Early in the morning, Tommy groaned, waking both himself and Evan.
"Did I tell you that I loved you last night?" Tommy whispered.
"Yeah." Evan whispered back, not wanting to turn his boyfriends brain into mush.
"Good, I meant it." Before wrapping his arms around Evan. Evan's last thought before going back to sleep was, so this is what heaven feels like.

Canon Events that have happened over the three episodes that have me going INSANE (like, these actually happened and are not Fanon.)
Buck asked Tommy for a tour of Harbour, not because he wanted to consider learning to fly, or leave the 118, but soley because he wanted to hang out with Tommy.
Buck used Christopher for information on Tommy.
Buck pretended to suddenly be into Basketball so that he could go to the game, just because he knew Eddie and Tommy would be there.
MADDIE MOCKED BUCK ABOUT OPENLY HAVING A CRUSH ON EDDIE.
Buck body slammed Eddie while playing Basketball (honestly, I still cannot get over the fact that he YEETED THIS BOII).
Tommy got Buck's address from Eddie and chose to come around to apologise to Buck even though, TECHNICALLY, Buck was the one acting like a spoilt brat all episode.
BUCK WAS KISSED BY A MAN. SPECIFICALLY, BUCK WAS KISSED BY TOMMY. And then proceeded to be swept off his feet by this man and was left starstruck in his apartment, after Tommy openly communicated that he had to go to work and wasn't just kissing and bailing.
"I'm an Ally."... Need I say no more.
Buck acted like a totally fucking idiot on his first date with Tommy, and proceeded to have Tommy cut the date short because of how unready he seemed. WHICH BY THE WAY, TOMMY AGAIN COMMUNICATED SO BEAUTIFULLY WITH BUCK AND PROCEEDED TO STILL CALL THIS MAN ADORABLE. HE CALLED HIM ADORABLE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.
Buck accidently outed himself to Maddie because he was doing a ramble ramble about his lil buck'ed up date.
Buck told Eddie he was on a date with Tommy, and Eddie proceeded to be the bestie of besties to Buck and told him, they all loved him anyways. HE USED THE WORDS. Bucks face in that scene will forever make my lil gay heart WEEP.
Buck told Eddie he couldn't stop thinking about the hot pilot that kissed him. CRYING.
Buck proceeded to grow the fuck up and apologised to Tommy, face to face, out in a public space, knowing full well that Tommy could have dropped his ass there and then, but still wanted to show him how sorry he was, and that he was, in fact, ready.
BUCK INVITED TOMMY TO BE HIS DATE TO THE MADNEY WEDDING DESPITE ONLY technically GOING ON TWO DATES. AND THEN TOMMY. SAID. YES. HE SAID YES. YES.
Buck also then invited Tommy to Chim's bachelor party, HELD HIS ARMS OPEN ACROSS THE ROOM READY FOR A HUG, told Tommy off for his outfit, showing off true Clipboard Buck form, AND THEN TOUCHED HIS PECK.
Eddie, the bestie of besties, got all sappya and jokey when he saw Tommy and Buck together.
Buck got all pouty when Tommy had to go to work, BUT TOLD HIM TO BE SAFE. HE SAID BE SAFE DAMNIT.
Buck got all goofy and smiley when he saw that Tommy had arrived at the hospital, MEANING, that he was most likely texting Tommy all day updating him on everything that was going on, even if Tommy couldn't respond while attending to the fire.
BUCK. CALLED. TOMMY. A. BEAST. HE SAID THIS CANONICALLY. ARE YOU JOKING. HE FULLY ATTACKED MY MAN, WHILE HE WAS COVERED IN SOOT AND SHIT, SNOGGED HIS FACE OFF IN A HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM, AND CALLED HIM A BEAST. I AM DECEASED.
Buck, the idiot that he is, proceeded to out himself, to his entire family, by coming back into the room, most likely 15 to 20 minutes after leaving, covered in soot because he had been uncontrollably making out with his hot pilot boyfriend.
Eddie, the bestie of besties, GOT SO FUCKING SMUG WHEN HE SAW BUCK AND TOMMY WALK BACK IN THAT ROOM. HE PULLED THE SAME FACE I PULL WHEN MY FRIENDS HAVE COME BACK FROM MAKING OUT WITH PEOPLE AND I AM HERE FOR IT. EDDIE YOU BESTIE SLAY SLAY SLAY.
Hen, the queen that she is, has most likely spoken to Karen about her suspicons of Buck's sexuality, and procceed to say ABOUT DAMN TIME. SHE KNEW THIS WHOLE TIME. HER GAYDAR IS ON FIRE. I LOVE HER.
Again, all of these events happened IN ACTUAL EPISODES, not in a fanfiction. I am FERAL over this. Bi!Buck is the best thing to ever happen to me.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk and if you don't ship BuckTommy, leave.

buck not having chronic pain is just one of the small details that will get me about the show like yes we know the show is very unrealistic, but still it makes no sense to me he had an entire fire engine crushing his leg and no chronic pain after all the surgeries and treatments and physical therapy
