I have read so many fics over the past four years that I cannot possibly do everything justice. The little fics that fit into very niche interests. Long fics that require some hefty time investment. While I include one unfinished work here, there are several more that are excellent. 

These are not ‘random’ choices, but neither are they in any serious order on this list. They range from stories where The Ship is the Point to ones where Yes There’s a Ship in Here Somewhere to Friendship is a Ship, and one where the only ships are ones in the water. 

My primary ship is Kyalin, so expect to see that one pop up more than once. I’ve left so many off this list - you’ll notice I don’t have a single Korrasami fic here. There are some excellent works that sail on that ship.

I was going to hold myself to 10. But I just couldn’t.

Warning: Nearly all of the canon compliant / conforming / complicit / contrarian fics here probably should wait until you’ve finished the whole series.

brave soldier girl, comes marching home by @toastweasel A realistic portrayal of Lin from the time she was hurt by Su through the end of the 3rd season, except she’s an alcoholic. Lots of trigger warnings, but absolutely worth it. Not a ship-focused story.

KyaLin’s Travels by @slowdissolve Part 3 of a series that tells the story of Lin & Kya, starting a while after the end of the series. Part 18 (!) is the only unfinished entry here. The first fic I commented on, and my original door into the world of fanfic.

Her Favorite Mistake by @wishingforatypewriter The first Linzolt (Lin/Lightning Bolt Zolt) story caught my attention for its sheer off-the-wall-crackiness. The author’s intelligence and humor won me over.

The Bender Suicides by Aiffe This is set right after Season 1, and is obviously not happy. But it’s one of the best under-1000-word stories I can name.

The Scars that Made Me by @sanrielle Lin Beifong’s story in Lin Beifong’s words, toward (but not quite at) the end of her life. Well-worth reading more than once.

Blossoms Softly in the Mountains by archer_nebulae This is a story of Huan and his father, set in Season 4. An interesting look at two mostly side-lined members of the Beifong family.

I Made a Difference to that One by @whattheflameo A modern non-bending AU that works remarkably well. Unfinished, but it remains one of my absolute favorites. I even shared it with my children, I love it so much. And there are dolphins, which is its own plus.

How I Always Loved You by @orangepanic The story of Yasuko and Hiroshi. At least so far as I’m concerned. I don’t give a flying fig if “canon” ever comes along and tells a different story.

Blazing Sunsets by @orangepanic This is the fic I read when I need a laugh. Lin and Bumi get up to shenanigans following the series finale.

Song for Our Daughter by @cobaltzosia Opal Beifong is just about the right age to have something of a different origin than the series leads us to believe. Canon contradictory, but an amazingly nuanced, poignant, and eminently hopeful story.

Inheriting the Wind by @athoroughlycommonpotato Tenzin’s story, from the death of his father up to just before he breaks up with Lin. Lovely, lyrical writing.

Discover (we can do it together) by @frooopsen A story from The Ship is the Point list, we have: Lin/Pema. Modern AU. Another comfort fic for me.

An Annotated Bibliography of the Wars of Unification by HopefulPenguin A non-story fic that’s just what it says on the tin: a bibliography. This author put together a series of what academic writing in the universe might look like following the events of LOK.

So there ya go, a baker’s dozen of fantastic fics.

Hey everyone and happy anniversary to the original Bicons🩷💜💙 I'm planning a week for people to share their Korrasami-inspired art, writing, headcanons, memes, etc. and would like to get a sense of what time of year would work best! I picked a few fall/winter options since I'd like to give everyone (myself included) plenty of time to prepare. If you could let me know what you think (either by voting or messaging me) and share this post, I'd really appreciate it!

Once we get the dates nailed down, I'll open up prompt submissions and then we can all vote on which ones we'd like to have😊

Do you have any favorite m/f ship besides zelink, odypen, nalu? And do you have any favorite f/f and m/m ship? Or even a polyamorous one? (when I say "favorite" I really mean favorite, not just one you like!)

Lil confused by the question, as you're saying "I really mean favorite, not just one you like" as...I already told y'all about my favorites. Zelink, OdyPen, and Nalu. Those are my favorite ships.

But since you're asking again. I'll just name some in general :) I have many that I'll often be like "I love them!" but also I'm just thinking on the top of my head. Also I'll only be talking about ships that are like, for the ROMANTIC stuff. I have many brotps and friendships that I love a lot :D

Again, disclaimer: these are just opinions with shipping. Not about actual human people. Shipping is usually what you yourself vibe with the most, so that's what this is.

I like Jim x Claire from Trollhunters. He's no longer human (for that short amount of time) and still she's so ride or die, as he is too. She held back the fucking SUN to save him. Enough said.

I haven't finished the Manga but I did get pretty far and I like Yato and Hiyori from Noragami. He's never had a shrine before despite being a god and she made him his first one.

OH ALSO MAIKO. I fucking love Mai x Zuko. I love Suki and Sokka but that's a given. They're fucking made for each other. but fucking Maiko?? I still get shivers from "I love Zuko more than I fear you." ughhjhhhh She's grumpy and mean but she loves him so muchhhhh. I don't give a fuck about the ship wars with ATLA except Maiko and Suki and Sokka.

Edwin and Royai from FMA :) Mostly Edwin, I teared up when Winry accidentally ripped his cute proposal apart with "Half? I'll give you all of me?"

Got a pair with OCs. (honestly it's funny because I had them for a while but then I got into the Odyssey and I realized they match up with my Odypen so I think poured so many of my thoughts from them into OdyPen as it fits. Water shit, scammers, one keeps having shit thrown at them and wants it to stop, etc. so much alike lol)

For F/F.

I'm very sure I'll love Farcelle once I get into Dungeon Meshi. they seem right up my alley. lol

I got lesbian grandma OCs :) Don't have names yet but in a DnD-esque shit, with a quiet and soft dwarven woman with a chaotic elf woman. They're done adventuring and are retired. They raise a different OC in their cottage now.

DioSthe I like a lot. >:) Sthenelus being his little cheerleader? Following Diomedes to all the new cities he founded? Literally saying I love you to one another? (I know that could've been platonic but they DO deeply care about one another) GOOD SHIT! They're messy but not purposely or happily hurting one another.

For poly, I don't really have any??? I already love platonic stuff in general and I'm a jealous person. :'D It's not like I don't want to ship Poly ships, I just haven't found any that I vibe with yet sadly.

There's that "(character) has two hands" which yes! That's right! :D They do!

...But so do the characters that they're holding hands with 👀 All characters do. Those other characters' other hands are free, they should reach over and hold hands too. If it's Person A/B/C, a triangle of holding hands. Poly marriages (not cult stuff. you know what I mean) need to be legalized so they can ALL be spouses.🥹 (if people just want significant others that's chill. But for me, it's ride or die for all lovers or I don't get it. BOND ALL YOUR SOULS TOGETHER or BUST)

if they're not all holding hands and spinning in a circle then the stupid, jealous, lizard brain in me is like "But...that's not fair ｡:ﾟ(;´∩`;)ﾟ:｡ They should all smooch each other. Why does only one get the smooches? If one is smoochless, I'LL start smooching their unloved cheek. You snooze, you lose."

Because like, there's some Poly ships where I KNOW that the character has a favorite. Canonically. Some people can know there's a favorite and still ship but not my jealous ass :') I would always feel bad and jealous on that character's behalf because I have lizard brain. Ship what you ship but with Odysseus for example, if he had to choose between Penelope and someone else, he'd choose Penelope. Always. I'm sorry but that's literally canon. He wouldn't even hesitate or feel bad.

Honestly, if folks know of poly ships who are all holding hands, are all mutually obsessed, and not letting go then I'm all ears.🥹

Favorite fictional sapphic relationship? 👀

are we talking favorite actual or favorite hypothetical because those are kind of two different things. also there are a lot more of the latter unfortunately. and while a part of me is like "it's gotta be Qiyan Agula/Nangong Jingnu, doesn't it, truly the f/f pairing that delivered all of my favorite things (betrayal! disguised identity! reluctantly falling in love with your hated enemy! incredible amounts of emotional dysfunction!)" I actually feel like I might have to give this one to Catra/Adora? for the emotional place it holds in my heart that I think is somewhat comparable to the way many people around my age feel about Korrasami.

I feel like while Korrasami is very important to me in the abstract, Catra/Adora was sort of...my Korrasami, in a sense, in that it was the pairing where when I was watching She Ra I was like "oh man this is so perfectly a dynamic that I love between these two characters, I love the arc this is taking and the messiness of this relationship" and the sheer...euphoria? of it actually happening, textually, on screen? like, I don't need something to be canon for me to care, obviously, I'd be shit outta luck in a lot of ways if that was my expectation. but the absolute SCREAM that came out of me when it became clear that OH WE'RE DOING THIS. it was really something. like, I guess the lesbian representation I really needed was the one that involved more murder attempts which really just figures.

my favorite "not hypothetical, absolutely subtextually present but not overt/on screen" sapphic relationship is definitely Lucille/Edith from Crimson Peak though. the more I think about it the more into it I am. also the less I find myself caring about Thomas and the more I'm just like. dang the movie where they fucked though. it would defeat the purpose of the sublimated sexuality that actually makes this better but also. hot.

also @veilchenjaeger got me singlehandedly attached to Liu Mingyan/Sha Hualing as a concept because of all the ways it plays with all kinds of fun things that I feel like I don't usually get in f/f ships. like, it's not fucked up in the way that I'm usually after but it's got a lot of other interesting stuff going on and damn do I need to get back to that sex pollen fic

So I have two legit Hadestown aus (like, about the canon characters) and then several that are basically just a bunch of other ships placed into the Hadestown story. It’s funny, though, because you can’t really do a traditional “modern/fantasy/coffee shop Hadestown au” because the play itself is already “steampunk au of the Orpheus myth” LOL, so it’s kind of just my interpretations and ‘what if’s of the play. My crossover ideas include erasercloud, forsython, serirei, korrasami, and zelink!

Idea 1: I know some people like the thought that the characters are stuck in this sort of time loop thing. My sister firmly believes it's all happening within Hermes' mind, and he's trapped within a cycle of reliving these memories. I like to play around with the idea that the whole show is in Orpheus's mind, and the loop is a relatively good thing. (I’m still calling it au, but I guess nothing visibly changes in the play. It’s just adding extra context that changes Orpheus’ internal thoughts. It’s my fix-it au without actually cutting out the tragedy.) His mother was a muse – what if she was Mnemosyne, goddess of memory, and with Hermes’ help and prompting, she gives her son this loop as a blessing. He's just falling in love with the love of his life over and over, saving the world over and over. Even if Orpheus lost Eurydice in reality, now he’s always with her in his memory. 

I like to think that he's very self-aware of his role in this loop. He’s viewing everything with complete knowledge (but still unable to act any differently since it's just a memory), but it brings him peace. Not only is it wonderful to relive all his time with Eurydice, but replaying the tragedy so much it slowly likely takes away a bit of the sting and offers him closure. With every repetition he's analyzing everything. At first he looked to what he did wrong, or blamed others, but over time he starts making new realizations and connections. He starts seeing how so many variables fit into the story rather than just the fateful looking back moment. He sees everything in the play: Eurydice’s private songs, the gods’ fights, and even gets that look into Hades’ thoughts about himself. Just as I'm learning new things about the connections and consequences and themes every time I listen, so is he.

Idea 2: This is more of a traditional au because it’s just ‘what if’s. Here, Orpheus is reliving all this without the help of any muse – he’s obsessively repeating his “mistakes” trying to dissect what he did wrong and trying to change them now that he can see the bigger picture. First, he stays with Eurydice during the storm so she never dies in the first place. He thinks this would have given them their happy ending, but things only get worse since Hades and Persephone still hate each other. The world continues out of balance and dying, and Orpheus must live with the knowledge of the workers still trapped in Hadestown. As things spiral, he tries to use his song but can a) never get an audience with the gods because he can't sing himself into Hadestown now that his motivation to do so doesn't exist or b) he gets there but he's too late and the gods' relationship is too far gone. As the world falls apart, he’s haunted by the knowledge that he could have fixed it. The next loop, he tries to negotiate better with Hades once he reaches the underworld. No deal about looking back. The only way Hades agreed was to demand the workers stay, and Orpheus takes the deal and escapes easily with Eurydice. Similarly, he can’t actually live happily ever knowing that he damned those workers to their eternity. 

This continues until the only choice he’s left with is just… not looking back. But every time he tries, something makes him do it. He’s worried she’s not there, he’s worried it’s a trick, he thinks the workers aren’t there, the silence gets to him, or even because of good reasons (one of the original versions of the myth is that he turned back in celebration because he was out and thought she was too). No matter what Orpheus does, he always ends up at that moment, looking back. It always makes me emotional thinking about that “mistake” as fated to happen in order to save the rest of the world, or just unchangeable human nature, or his unchangeable nature, or set in stone because of myth/history. Even with infinite looping chances where Orpheus can break free from his story, all roads lead to the same spot, and there is only one outcome. 💔

Lmao and then we have the crossover aus, because the main relationship has everything I could want from a love story (aside from the dying RIP) so all the songs make me think “but what if this was my blorbos” :0

I actually already did a bit of doodling of a bnha erasercloud version! This one has fit the best because their canon relationship really did end in tragedy, so I don’t need to add any extra angst in my life when I run through the plot beginning to end asdfsd. I think they suit the roles really well, and there’s so much reflection of the weather/wind that could go hand in hand with Shirakumo’s cloud symbolism. Also, there are so many lines about seeing the world a certain way, and the fact that Aizawa’s power is centered around sight (and that Shirakumo canonically dies to protect Aizawa’s sight) is super significant.

Of course I’ve have forsython thoughts – the amount of times I’ve played through “Come Home With Me/Wedding Song” with Forsyth as the wide-eyed, optimistic poet in love and Python as the jaded, poor pessimist (featuring Hermes-Lukas as his wingman). I’d keep the steampunk setting exactly the same. Forsyth’s intense hope despite the world fits “Wait for Me” so well, and he’s prone to self-doubt when pushed too far. Python suits the role so well, and I think there’s some good stuff around “Flowers” and the consequences of his apathy. I toyed around with Mila/Duma being the gods: Mila has a summer song about a bountiful harvest and fun, while Duma’s city is dominated by work and power. Obviously in my head, the love they rekindle would be familial – but the whole point was that there were parallel romances, so I never could commit to that idea.

It was a bit more of a stretch than the previous two, but it was really fun thinking about a seirei version! It’s take place in the normal mp100 setting, and leaning into that hell train vibes from the OVA. Reigen’s totally faking that he can sing this super-powered song to fix the out-of-balance world (I mean, really, what kind of lyrics are ‘la la la’?) but he’s completely earnest in his attempts to show Serizawa how beautiful the world could be. Serizawa is torn between returning to his safe isolation or venturing out in society with Reigen. After he starts getting out more, he gets tangled up with two insanely powerful spirits who pull him into that other dimension by train. Reigen bluffs his way into this dangerous spirit dimension with his “psychic” song. He has a knack for accidentally becoming a leader to large groups of people, so the workers (suffering spirits?) are quickly attracted to him. When he gets there, though, his genuine love for Seri and the world are what convince the spirits to let everyone go. But when it comes down to it, Reigen starts panicking that he’s a fraud and the song wasn’t real. His imposter syndrome and doubt makes him look back :(

A super quick idea was a korrasami one, although tbh Korra may actually may be too self-assured and determined to look back so maybe it ends up okay 😅 It’d be set in a mix of Republic City and the steampunk vibes, with Yue would be Hades and her failed romance would cause the tides to go crazy and harm the human world. I didn’t spend a ton of time on this one because it’s been a while since I’ve had atla/lok brain but maybe I go back to it eventually…

My most recent comparison has been a skyward sword zelink version simply because of how well it fits. A slightly clueless but heartfelt Link plays his special song on the goddess harp. He travels “down below” to save his lover, who previously was unhappy with the way things were. Hylia and Demise used to bring balance to the world but she spends so much time caring for the humans that he gets jealous. The major difference here is it’s interesting twist: “Eurydice” and “Persephone” end up being the same person, much to their lovers’ surprise. How they rekindle a love with two separate people at once I’m not quite sure, but I’m working on it hehe

Like that original post said, I doubt there’s a big audience for any of these -- but either way I really enjoy them and maybe someone else will too! :D

Korrasami Secret Santa 2020

Hi, Korrasami fam. We’re back  👀 👀 👀

We’re doing Korrasami Secret Santa for 2020! @threehoursfromtroy and I are racking this up again :). (Did I just copy and paste this from Korrasami Secret Santa 2019? Hahah...) 

The rules are the same:

Korrasami creators will be able to gift one another with Secret Santa gifts. Whether it be fics, art, videos, animations…the fun’s all there! (It doesn’t have to be holiday-themed! It can be whatever you want :)

The Process:

This Secret Santa exchange will be done through drawnames.com, which is a Secret Santa Name Generator. You’ll need your email for this, and you can message me it directly on Tumblr (I’ll gather everyone’s names up, and put them into the generator when it’s time to draw names.)

The due date to sign up is 11:59 PM Nov 27, 2020 PDT (I’d like everyone to have ample time to do their Secret Santa gifts). :)

Most likely, you’ll need to make an account on drawnames.com (you don’t need to, but it’s recommended.  When you get to writing your Wish List on there, under ‘Hobbies and Interests’, make two different lists: One for ‘Fic Requests’, the other for ‘Art Requests’. If a writer draws your name, you’ll have a suggestion for what you want them to write. If an artist draws your name, they’ll have an idea of what to create! (Also, originally, this project only had fanfic and fanart- but if anyone can contribute any other talents, that’d be swell!)

Example: Fic Request- I want Korra and Asami cuddling at home with a fireplace!

Art Request: I want Korrasami going otter-penguin sledding!

The fic and art requests can be the same, or they can be different. Please limit it to one, or if you can’t choose, then two options. You can also note things that you don’t want (i.e. No smut or NSFW work!). You can be as specific as you wish.

the position they sleep in: depends, before her recovery she slept either curled up or on her side, during recovery she slept on her back and after recovery she slept in the starfish position, on her back, curled up or with her limbs all over the place

a crossover au i’d love to see them in: korra and pokemon, imagine the amount of chaos her and ash would get in

Yeah, it's not finished yet, but the author kindly informs anyone who asks that she's steadily working on getting it finished^^

Just from the summary of the fic over at AO3 you know you'll have a good time. "Korra is a ski instructor. Asami is a student. They meet :)" It's straightforward and quite chummy😊

To think the first line of the story has a begrudging Korra, thinking of how Kai owes her for filling in for him as instructor to a soon-to-be introduced Asami. And let me tell you, by the end of the first chapter/ski lesson, anyone can tell that she'll owe him and not the other way around *ahem*😌

One of the most satisfying slow burns I've ever read, there's so much pining on both parts, it's ridiculous and agonizing! But the well depictied three-years gap of distance (chapter 20/21/22) it's the perfect build up to a very sweet payoff when they reunite - and the best part is: Their story doesn't end there! You end up awestruck and thanking @asamiontop for keeping on giving (I know I am!)

One of my fav chapters (ch23) has them meet again as if by chance but you can't help feeling like it's fate that they bump into each other like they do.

Charmingly and carefully written, this story seems like a novel but also like an account of the life experience of two real people that found their soulmate where they least expected to.

What I love most about Korra and Asami's relationship here is how their mutual feelings for each other resemble an actual snowball rolling downhill - growing the further they spend time together and get to know each other - masterfully proved by Korra not being exactly available at the beginning of the story👀, yet her attraction and affection for Asami is simply unstoppable, and vice versa.

This one comes with an option, though. You can either start reading what's already published. Or wait for the author to finish the story.

I can only share my experience and well, I've read it and re-red some of my fav chapters a few times (I don't regret it) but I took a brake from say, the last 2 or 3 chaps a while ago till is finished to read it all over again.

I trully believe, it'll be worth the wait!😊

Korrasami Secret Santa 2019!

Guess what, fam? We’re bringing this back   👀 👀 👀 👀

We’re doing Korrasami Secret Santa for 2019! @threehoursfromtroy and I are racking this up again :). 

The rules are the same:

Korrasami creators will be able to gift one another with Secret Santa gifts. Whether it be fics, art, videos, animations…the fun’s all there! (It doesn’t have to be Christmas-themed! It can be whatever you want :)

The Process:

This Secret Santa exchange will be done through drawnames.com, which is a Secret Santa Name Generator. You’ll need your email for this, and you can message me it directly on Tumblr (I’ll gather everyone’s names up, and put them into the generator when it’s time to draw names.)

The due date to sign up is 11:59 PM Nov 23, 2019 PDT (I’d like everyone to have ample time to do their Secret Santa gifts). :)

Most likely, you’ll need to make an account on drawnames.com (you don’t need to, but it’s recommended.  When you get to writing your Wish List on there, under ‘Hobbies and Interests’, make two different lists: One for ‘Fic Requests’, the other for ‘Art Requests’. If a writer draws your name, you’ll have a suggestion for what you want them to write. If an artist draws your name, they’ll have an idea of what to create! (Also, originally, this project only had fanfic and fanart- but if anyone can contribute any other talents, that’d be swell!)

Example: Fic Request- I want Korra and Asami cuddling at home with a fireplace!

Art Request: I want Korrasami going otter-penguin sledding!

The fic and art requests can be the same, or they can be different. Please limit it to one, or if you can’t choose, then two options. You can also note things that you don’t want (i.e. No smut or NSFW work!). You can be as specific as you wish.

Also, everyone else! We recognize that there may be people in the fandom who don’t create content, but still want to contribute! @lamftw came up with these great ideas, if you’d still like to participate in the Secret Santa. You can:

Create Korrasami memes! The more memes, the better :)

Share your favorite Korrasami headcanon! We’d love to hear them.

Share your favorite artwork/fanfic!

Share your favorite moment from LoK or share how much Korrasami means to you. 

Create Korrasami memes, write a sweet Christmas message/ note of appreciation :), share your favorite Korrasami moment/ what Korrasami means to you, share your favorite headcanons, 

Also, we can all show some love to our favorite creators, to Bryke, Janet Varney, and Seychelle Gabriel (the voice of Korra and Asami, respectively). :)

When everyone has signed up, I’ll put all the names into the Secret Santa Name Generator. You should get an email, asking you to join the Secret Santa exchange. Just click ‘Join Group’, and you’re good! Once everyone has joined, the names will then be drawn, and you’ll get your chosen individual (you’ll get an email for this too). Please remember to check your email on Nov 24; we cannot draw names unless everyone has joined the Secret Santa group!

The reveal will be on Dec 19, 2019 (the Korrasami Anniversary) Post your work on Tumblr, and tag the person you got, so they’ll know what lovely work they got! Also, please tag ‘Korrasami Secret Santa’ so we can save these posts for the future :). 

Please note that if you sign up, you HAVE to commit to making something. This is open to all creators, of any skill level, but please please make something if you sign up. You don’t wanna leave anyone hanging!
