If you're familiar with telenovelas from say the 80-90s, lakorns have more in common with those than anything else I can think of. Like truly camp over the top soap operas.

They are GREAT.

If you like that kinda thing.

I would say Laws is a little less lakorn and more gay romantic suspense, because lakorns tend to be more more ensemble pieces with lots of focus on parents, villains, siblings, staff, and other sides. Again, think really soapy soap operas.

I highly recommend watching To Sir With Love. It will give you a real lakorn experience but still very gay. And, as of right now, it's the only one of its kind.

Genre is often a matter of "I know it when I see it" and challenging to define. I will sometimes try using a negative.

For example I have an author friend who defines sci-fi as: if you remove the sci-fi elements the whole story would fall apart. In other words, to be called sci fi, the book's central premise and narrative backbone must rely upon its science fiction elements.

You can apply the same to romance: if you remove the love story, the whole narrative falls apart.

Lakorn, I'm not entirely sure what that backbone is (I haven't watch enough of them, because so far they not queer enough except for Laws). But I wouldn't necessarily define Laws of Attraction as lakorn first. Although it has lakorn aspects. I wouldn't necessarily define Laws of Attraction as BL first either. Although it also has BL aspects. Which is why, like Manner of Death, I settled on "gay romantic suspense."

One might make a case for Only Friends or even Playboyy as lakorn, but neither was soapy or campy enough. IMHO they have more in common with something like The L Word or Queer as Folk.

I come with another question, What plays that the Bal!Boys have done or the kind of genre of plays that the Glamrocks would enjoy? (I just have this idea that maybe the boys when they’re on friendly terms with the others will do private shows after the pizza plex closes. Anyway! I think that Monty is probably an obvious fan of action, comedy, maybe secretly a bit of romance and fairy tales? Not a fan of the classics though - or, like, not shakespearean for sure. Stories about misfits or monsters who end up loved is a sure way to get him emotional (he likes to play the big bad sometimes when they do a play together, it's fun when it's a role and not something that's slapped onto your reputation) (he would be a fan of Beauty and the Beast I think)

Roxy I think would like rock?? Like uuh I think she'd get into Little Shop or Horror or even Rocky Horror Picture show (i think her and Monty would get way into the music actually djdjd stomping along) She'd love things like Wicked too, I think. Bonus: I think maybe after the massive improvement in the boys' uuuuh Suitability to Interact with Humans probably looks very promising to Fazbear Corporates. I think, maybe, the stage/theater can become a lucrative space to test bringing back more decomissioned bots... maybe a certain fox and bunny?

The boys cite the new revenue from the theater and the need for more main roles to get them to bring back Foxy at first (maybe even as something like Captain Hook??)

They're confined to the stage at first so even if something was 'wrong' they get minimal direct interaction with the actual humans until deemed safe/graduated from the theater. I think Foxy sticks around or maybe gets pirate cove back.

Bonnie's reveal kind of floors Freddy, oh boy (and of course they DO plan a dramatic reveal in a private show with Freddy, cause well they dont want Freddy to lose him twice so they work very hard to make sure everything is good to go/he won't be redecommissioned before revealing him at the climax of a play) They come up with an elaborate play for Bonnie, maybe something like Sleeping Beauty? (thanks Eyndr!) where they cast Freddy as the prince and he expects like. a S.T.A.F.F. bot in a wig, and instead he finds Bonnie trying not to laugh and snickering and it's the most beautiful thing he's ever seen and he bursts into tears (static??) immediately.

Both stick around. I like to think that Bonnie doesn't actually want to rejoin the band at this point tho hell be close to Freddy Chica and Foxy. Maybe he even takes over the daycare himself? For some reason I see him as this mellow tired art teacher/caretaker when he comes back for good.

I see Foxy as helping work out the kids' energy and hes a bit of a gremlin himself, scurrying like a gremlin like Moon and very loud and dramatic acting. And also YN is well versed in LARPing so he gets a very very padded, not sharp/dangerous hook with the core still solid enough to actually be used as a prosthesis.

Anyway ye!!! Acting is good for all of them, either to work out emotions, or for fun, or to learn new tools for their own work (setting up a character so that they can be free to be themselves in their off time without worrying about the bleed-through/to help set up work/free time boundaries), and I think they end up putting up plays for each other even! Also, all the movie nights.

🌈 2023 ✨

Another year is over so it's time for a look back at what was happening on this blog! I haven't really been around, it was just my queue, and maybe that's one reason why I looked at my archive and went "huh" at everything. I don't remember much. The other reason why this year probably went poof in my head is because I was dealing with some mental health stuff lol. I say lol but it wasn't actually very lol but I'm doing better now and 2024...is looking promising for now.

We're in Bridgeport and Sawyer is living his best life. You know, girlfriends, boyfriends, being turned into a vampire, giving birth to three little vampires, threatening to sell his enemies' organs on the black market...best life indeed.

Okay I am now seeing that "talking more" about every month will be impossible since I actually don't have much recollection of 2023 lmao

March

Sawyer and Erin are at the best point of their relationship, but we left them alone for a bit and went back to NSB. Pastel just moved to Strangerville and got a...rather strange roommate.

April

The rather strange roommate becomes Pastel's rather strange wife. I love these two so much. We also say hello to Moss -- and also to Ross, who returns from...god knows where. I mean yeah, there was the ts3 Ross, but technically they're two different people. Parallel universes and stuff.

May

Thea is born and strange wife Jesse gets even stranger. That whole "merging with the mother plant" thing was kinda weird but I really enjoyed it. Idk what I was on but it was fun. And then, before returning to the lepacy, I posted my Cottage Living screenshots! ...which were really just me going "uwu what does this do" on every possible Wicked Whims option.

Lepacy time! Loved the soap opera Generations gen. Kinda wish I had sticked to some of the storylines instead of going "eh nvm I just wanna play". August was...welp 💀 I was at the grippy socks hospital for most of that month, 10/10 would recommend, but my queue ran out while I was there so I just reblogged some old stuff for a few weeks.

September is just lepacy month. Cornelia and Archer are happy, they get married, they get more children...yeah. Good wholesome Generations times all around. It's not like they're gonna get divorced later or anything.

October

The twins are kind of chaotic, one of them turns into a ghost, both then bring their cursed imaginary friends to life...and the final child of Archer and Cornelia is born.

November

I loved running into Sawyer at the grocery store all the time. Weird vampire alleged killer grandpa behavior suits him. Dorothea goes away to a boarding school, hates it there and instantly comes back. Relatable. Oh and midlife crisis hits Archer hard.

December

And we're in December! Dorothea enters her horsegirl era and finds herself a girlfriend...and we'll continue that in 2024!

What's in store for the new year besides the lepacy? Well, Not So Berry will be making a return (and HOPEFULLY we'll finally get to the end. we need to). There's a story I want to do in the NSB universe, if you know you know. Before we dive into the next lepacy generation, I'm thinking of another BC with the gen 7 heir...oh and Marika's Black Widow. Shoot and I'm starting an irl job in January. Yeah no we're not doing all this in 2024, don't count on it 💀 But I'll try.

Onto the actual answer:

Lune has a mild interest in mortals, he thinks they’re interesting beings though he does not wish to be as involved with them as others nor does he envy them (they are on limited time after all).

He does pity them in a way for that exact reason though; many mortals have prayed and begged to him for more time, either for themselves or for people they care for, but those are prayers that he is rarely if ever able to answer. Everyone’s time runs out at some point and in his eyes there is little use trying to prolong the inevitable, nor do his duties allow him to as he is not the overseer of life nor death, he is just the keeper of time.

As for Scorch, he also has a mild interest in mortals (more so than Lune)

He also finds them to be rather interesting though unlike Lune he does enjoy being more involved, at least to an extent. As I stated before, he has no issue giving his blessings to power hungry mortals as long as they respect him and give him good enough offerings in return. He likes to watch the build up and eventual fallout like a soap opera; again he has no issue putting other mortals at risk and giving power to those who porbablyyy shouldn’t have it in order to get entertainment and further his own power.

Outside of that though, he has little interest in the more mundane aspects of mortal life and only really focuses on his own devoted worshippers and their endeavors.

There are other gods who are a lot more involved with mortals and like them more (Alpenglow being one of them) but I will not talk about them yet (unless asked)

OMG YES I watched it last week! And I cannot chill at the entire movie. I’ve been holding my breath at all of Douma’s scenes 🥹😭😩 I’ve been in heaven for the entire uppermoon meeting 🥹

I immediately drew some of the scenes I like when I got home. Douma is majestic. Seeing him on the big screen and listen to his voice through the speakers nearly killed me.

The movie is amazing. It makes you feel like you’re in the meeting personally, you feel the intensity and tension between all the characters. Muzan, Kokushibo, and Douma each have their own entrances and interactions that literally shakes the infinity castle, expressing their power. (The constant change and shift of camera angles reminds of the Indian soap operas idk why 🙃 those memes only loose my head and I couldn’t take the rest of the infinity castle meeting seriously)

Since you touched on it in the ask I just answered, I also adore ensemble casts. This is probably a huge reason I like TLH so much - we get to see how 11 very different people interact and bounce off each other. It's interesting how they force each other to grow.

I totally agree @swiftiematthewfairchild.

I think with TLH specifically, the way they are formatted, what TLH aims to do in the fantasy world which is, a multi-generational cast where they all grow and learn together is at the forefront it makes for a great soap opera. They start out young (early twenties) but really how amazing would it be to continue following them as a cast grow and age in their 30s? 40s? 50s? I mean even with us right, Iate 20's, the stakes grow astronomically by each age. The amount of responsibilities and considerations that you acquire all the time, how amazing would that be to see that in the mix as they all age?

Each of them means well in their way, and are each EXTREMELY unique. So it makes you look forward to see Alastair interact with say Christopher, or Grace with Matthew. And how that dynamic changes if it's a trio say- Tessa, Matthew, Thomas.

I feel unlike the other ensemble casts in TSC, TLH stands out because personality wise, they are all EXTREMELY unique. It feels like the amount of attention to care and detail left all the wazoo.

The only criticism I reserve for this ensemble cast is not giving added room for Wessa, especially with the opportunity of us getting Wessa finally after two series without them. And probably never again given CC's trajectory.

But hey that's what we have amazing our resident Tinkerbell in the Shadowhunter community to help rectify and put on a glorious show without the impending doom in the novels ✨

Literally the Six storyline in EastEnders could've been resolved sooo quickly if they had admitted it was self defense.

It does a disservice to them: even though Chrissy is back and the "who killed Den" storyline was ✨✨✨

Linda will become this cross to bear for everyone in the square, but Linda has no support system around her to help her cope with it. Only, Johnny really. And who gives a shit about him?

Denise will be focused on Chelsea, as she's admitted to causing the whole festival mess because her character was too pedestrian, and we need to make her pettiness publise her when this festival will be forgotten. Chelsea also won't have consequences and her character will become worse over time, because Denise has excused it. Really, her storyline has been disconnected from her role in the six for months.

Stacey is in debt, she was frequently perved on by that man slag who tutored her daughter. Also, has to worry about, by extension, her granddaughter. Who's been recently trapped in a car? FOR NO FUCKING REASON??? Like, I know Lilly is only 14(?) but she hasn't been shown to be a shit mother until now when it's plot convenient. You'd question why she went through the trouble of having a baby but.....that's neither here or there. It's fucking stupid, they're giving Stacey too much of a rough time.

If you've fought tooth and nail to be with someone for over 2 years, nearly getting murdered by said someone's husband and then getting repeated death threats and another murder attempt and you still love that person: that's usually endgame status for literally any other media apart from soap operas. So, EastEnders: the gays who wrote Lilly's daughter to be named after Charli XCX don't fuck it UP. We're not having a Chryed 2.0.

Kathy, she's there. She's 74, she's looking the same as she did when she was 54. Somehow? She's got such great skincare, and I need to look into it. But she hasn't got an overwhelming storyline at the moment, she's kind of Pat Butcher 2.0 with the support she's giving: like a very grandmother presence but she's not doing too much. She's kinda chill, and she's just being the voice of reason. Kathy is cool. I don't know what else to say.

Now, Sharon: she's got an interesting storyline coming up and I don't want EastEnders to fuck it up. Sooo, she's gone to jail for a week for contempt of court. Cool, but Chrissy Watts is coming back?!!! Sharon doesn't think the best about people necessarily but she can be blind when it comes to those she loves. Sharon gate for example? In what world is Phil Mitchell a nice bloke? In what world is Phil Mitchell so unresistable that you're "ripping each other's clothes off?" Anywayyyy, Sharon is intriguing because there's also the layer that she's adopted by Den, and she was loved unconditionally by him even though he was awful towards her. For example, his other daughter (biological) Vicky leaves because he admits he'll never love her like she does Sharon (this is overheard). Chrissy killed him, and even though it was self defense: she still hasn't accepted the fact Linda killed Keanu in defense of her: the same man who kidnapped her child.

The six was underutilised by the writers, became uninterested and when it's antithesis is storylines such as "who killed Den", "who killed Archie," it became boring. You know who killed him, you know why and it's a drag watching this avoidable situation drag out.

There's no problem having a case and it's intentions unravel over time, a disjointed ramble of explanations grasping at straws, a bunch of women who were in this high stressed situation and wanting to end the threat as soon as they could. However, as soon as they blamed Dean you knew he was going to go. I'm worried Linda won't face consequences because they could've called the police there, before she had to kill Keanu and Nish was piss assing around. They could've explored their characterisations and nuances over the last nine months, Stacey has literally murdered someone in the same pub 14 years before. No mention, nada. Don't mind me but imagine a little Heather on vacation in California and meeting an equally as little Billy. Anyways so five minutes in the kids are playing and Heather has learned how to make the sand equivalent of snowballs and is now pelting this random surfer kid with it because she's appalled he doesn't know what snow is, therefore has never been in a snowball fight. Truly a travesty.

She throws sand at him and he “accidentally” hits her with his surfboard and then they’re like “okay we’re blood brothers forged on the fields of war” and team up to play after. Make a sand castle and bully other kids on the beach like a little two man pack of hyenas roving around looking for prey. They talk about EVERYTHING and have that kinda like instant and intense friendship kids have when they just randomly decide to hang out with a stranger kid at a party or whatever.

It could even be a multi-day friendship if Heather’s family is at his local beach for more than just a day. Billy getting excited to go out and spend time with his brand new friend who’s super cool even if she is a girl — maybe even because she is a girl bc she’s so cool it outweighs the girlness so that like doubles the cool. He tries to teach her to surf and she teaches him some basic gymnastics stuff like a cartwheel and they play pretend— all the kinds of pretend— detectives, magicland, doctors, house (which Billy moans about being too girly but secretly likes bc he likes building a happy home even if it’s fake).

They’re both super distraught when she has to finally go back to Hawkins. It’s like a terminal diagnosis or funeral. She gives him a peck on the lips and her charm bracelet to remember her by and he gives her a shell and the surfer bracelet his mom made for him and tries super hard not to cry bc crying is for pussies but he still ends up crying a little when he hugs her super tight.

They swap addresses and PROMISE to write each other all the time and actually do! Heather’s a dramatic little thing so she’s excited for the ~✨romance✨~ (romance in the dramatic sense she’s like 8 dkdjdjdjdkcj she’s more interested in FEELING like a soap opera lady than anything else) of it all and Billy’s just excited to keep hold of his friend even distantly. When his mother leaves billy writes her A LOT but then peters out into more sporadic letters. He never fully stops, he treats letters to Heather like a confessional since she can’t see or physically confront him about what he writes.

Heather tells him about her own struggles at home, how her parents care more about image than her and her sister as people. About how hostile being popular feels but how she feels she has no choice but to duke it out. Sometimes they even call each other and they both have each other’s numbers memorized. The phone calls are rare and far between and tend to be filled with long silences while they just kinda Exist together.

How to Write...

Villains!

✨✨✨✨✨✨

So, last time I talked about flashbacks. If you haven't checked that out, but you're interested...look no further.

If you already have, hello!

The characters that our heroes dislike and readers...love more often than not.

Villians. They're evil. They're dastardly. They're mischievous. They're cruel.

Yeah, that's true. But what about the other stuff?

To truly make a good villain, give them a life or something that isn't villain-ish, like knitting, volunteering, singing, or just chilling on the couch watching a soap opera with their favorite slippers on.

Give them showmanship or pizzazz.

Let them have fun doing it.

Toss in a few traits that aren't so terrible, something that contradicts their villainy.

Now, to make a sympathetic villain:

Distort how they understand the world (by making them think their view is right). Or you could make their view right in a twisted way.

Make them accept responsibility for doing bad things.

Make them a victim of circumstance/make them a survivor

Make it for protection. Are they protecting someone?

Revenge for wrong treatment.

Or debt, pretty normal, right?

*Note: This is where flashbacks can come in to bring it all together.

Try this: For fun, create a normal character with normal likes and dislikes...then make them a villain. Could open up your creative juices a little.

Note: I'm not telling you how to write! Just giving you some ideas/tips.
