Tbh I have thought about this and someone wrote a fic about LSZ being appalled by his father being romantically interested in MXY before the reveal given they are pretty much the same age. But I’ve always found the concept a bit strange because if you think about it, mentally, Wwx and the juniors are of similar ages but yet WWX is seen as the senior. I know that’s probably because he’s more mature and knows more because he grew up with a war on the horizon and as the right hand of a sect heir AND was the head disciple but it does weird me out sometimes that technically they’re of similar age but they act so different.

It would be nice for someone to really go into the details of “WWX is still mentally around 22.” If anyone wants to write a fanfic it would be interesting for someone to seriously ask the question “how old are you?” And Wwx just answers “22” without thinking and everyone either looks at him strange (juniors) or looks a little sad (the people that knew him before he died). Mxtx did do an interview and was asked how Wwx spent the 13 years which was answered with “He was in a confused and chaotic state, not quite conscious but not completely unable to feel anything either. It's like being stuck in an unending nightmare.” (The interview I’m referencing is in this post if anyone needs it) It’s also pretty clear from the first couple lines of the novel that he was aware he was dead but it’s entirely possible that sometimes it just doesn’t register how much time has truly passed for everyone else while he was dead and probably not too aware of time.

Come to think of it, do the juniors even know how old Wwx was when he died? LSZ might and maybe Jin Ling but it’s possible none of them actually realize how young wwx was and still kinda is. Also how young everyone in the sunshot campaign actually was. I mean, irl many people forget how old a lot of historical figures were when they made history. It wouldn’t be too weird for the juniors to think that they were older than they actually were when they fought in the war.

Imagine the juniors find out because WWX mentions his age offhandedly and the juniors have to reset their brains for a second because excuse me, what? The senior they have looked up to all this time is technically barely older than them?? Or maybe one of Wwx’s friends threatens to put him with the juniors because technically he’s their same age?

Idk this gave me ideas (clearly)

Shen Qingqiu’s age in relation to the ridiculous amount of times he dies in svsss is such a funny discussion to me.

Because yes everyone is completely correct, Binghe would be distraught to know his mommy kink was based on a lie. And now Shen Qingqiu’s age is a nebulous thing based on like two throwaway lines of backstory, careful plotting out of timelines on the reader’s part, and sheer vibes.

But besides that.

I just think it’s so funny that I never ever see the same discussion pop up in the mdzs fandom.

Not even in the fun-police conversation killer kind of way that might decide lwj is problematic for age gap reasons.

But Wei Wuxian is in the exact same boat as plantzun!! He wakes up several years after his death, has to play a deeply unfun game of catch-up, and his love interest has visibly changed while he was in the great beyond.

Wei Wuxian is almost a decade younger than his peers now, closer in age to his son than his husband if I recall the age ranges correctly.

Idk I just think it’s funny that mdzs is honestly even more loaded with the death/aging nonsense but the fandom doesn’t even have half as much fun with it as svsss.
