“I never said it back.”

Matt’s standing on the apron looking out at the calm night sky when he hears Sylvie’s voice from behind him. As soon as she speaks, his nerves become electrified and he turns around in shock. Her sudden presence is not exactly expected. Things between them have been a little complicated. It’s his own damn fault, really. What happens when you tell someone you love them and they say nothing back? Is Matt just going to be left hanging in the air forever? Is he really just destined to be pining for her?

Admittedly, there are worse things to be.

But alas, here he is: in the middle of the night while one shift, turning around to see the familiar blonde hair. Only the expression on the head attached to it is nervous and she has that tiny tremble in her bottom lip that she gets when she’s upset. Her words throw him for quite the loop. If it were anyone else, the vague nature of it would have confused him, but he knows Sylvie. He knows exactly what she’s talking about, and his heart beats out of his chest thinking of where this conversation could be headed (or not headed).

Finally, after one beat of silence, he’s able to form a single word. “What?”

“I never said it back,” she repeats, shaking her head. She looks disappointed in herself. Matt doesn’t know why— he never expected her to reciprocate the feelings he’d confessed to the other night anyway.

“Sylvie, you don’t have to do this. I’m fine, I promise. I just wish my feelings for you hadn’t freaked you out so much. I’d hate to think I was the reason you haven’t been acting yourself.”

“But you are,” she says simply.

“Sorry,” he winces.

“No, not like that,” Sylvie corrects him. Her eyes are wild with the glistening threat of tears and a wild look that’s building up to something. “Listen, I’ve been off my game today. I know that. It’s just that I’ve been thinking so much about everything going on. About you. When everything went down between us the first time, I pushed you away. I didn’t that I— that you could love me like that.”

“Okay...” he eyes her cautiously, instinctively taking a few steps closer to her. He doesn’t know what she’s getting at but it’s heading somewhere and that’s a start.

“My point is,” Sylvie continues, “I didn’t want to let myself think I could have the things I want with you, so I tried to put space between us. But then the other night, you said— God, you said all the right things.”

“Right things?” So she... wanted to hear it? She liked hearing he loved her?

“Mhm,” she nods, her eyes now frantically darting back and forth between. “I’d been wishing for those words for months, even if I didn’t know it. And I stood there. Silently. Like an idiot.”

“You’re not an idiot,” he assures her in a whisper, almost as a sidenote.

“I am,” she refutes, ramping up to something as she becomes more frustrated with herself. “I really am, because Kelly Severide of all people proposes to my best friend— which is just a miracle in and of itself— and I can’t even tell you that I’m in love with you!”

Matt thinks it’s good she’s a paramedic because his heart stops beating for one, heaping, eternal second. “You-...” He blinks, hardly able to process any of what’s happening right now.

“And I am,” she adds quietly after a moment, her voice mousy and her lip still quivering. “So much. I stood there and let you walk away but I’m not going to do that anymore, Matt. I cannot spend one more second not saying this— it’s affecting my work, my sleep, my life. I love you.”

The air feels lighter now that everything’s out in the open and a smile creeps onto his face, his eyes filled with wonder. It seems to have a calming effect on Sylvie because she mirrors the same dazzled, happily surprised look.

He’s going to say something. He’s about to say he loves her back, about to close all this nauseating space and just kiss her already like he’s been wanting to do for the past five months.

But then the bells start ringing.

“Ambo 61, distress call coming from 236 Jeffrey Blvd.”

He’s not surprised, really. The bells have not been his friend recently and he’s considered taking a sledgehammer to the speaker system more than once. Sylvie looks back to the trucks lined up behind her though, disappointed and flustered. She looks like she’s just now remembering they’re still at work and honestly, he doesn’t blame her.

Maybe that’s their thing. Maybe they’re always bound make each other feel like the only people in the world. (Or, maybe, they’re just always meant to get interrupted by the bells.)

“We’ll talk about this later. I promise,” he tells her, pursing his lips to stop himself from cursing at the bells. She blinks, swallows hard, and nods at him curtly before scurrying off to the ambo. He’s fighting every urge he has in his body to lean over and steal one quick kiss. That can wait until later though, he thinks.

After all, they have all the time in the world now. They love each other.

i wanna hear your entire 1am discussion on Lup because I agree w you that griffin established a female character unlike any other with MINIMAL content

AH HELL YEAH THANKS FOR THE INQUIRY,

Firstly, speaking from personal experience, Lup means a lotto me. I was so worried about her introduction when the show was already so faralong, and her being Taako’s long lost twin… How were the Mcelroys supposed topull that off?

But they did it. Justin and Griffin, specifically, did it. Iremember Griffin revealing the existence of Taako’s twin and freaking out. Iremember playing the episode in the car to my friend and both of us freakingout. And then, to have all of that anticipation of “will she be good? CanGriffin do it? Will it work?” pay off as Lup ends up becoming one of the bestcharacters on the show, objectively speaking, is fucking phenomenal. I’m stillnot over it.

Like I so eloquently concluded in my original post,“Lup……..suave.” Because she IS. She has charisma that doesn’t dip into beingtoo sultry. She’s practically synonymous with “elegance,” but not in thetraditional sense… she takes that word and makes it her own. “Phantasmal andresplendent.” You fucking believe it.

Griffin managed to create a trans woman character that 1) ischarming enough to completely enrapture his audience within a few episodes ofher being properly introduced, 2) is a dynamic character that fails to fallinto common tropes, and 3) is unmistakably Taako’s twin, while still settingher apart from her brother.

I keep bringing up “suave,” so let me elaborate. Lup’spopularity amongst the fandom is (obviously) tied to her compellingpersonality. She wins over both the characters and the audience.

In Episode 61 there’s this scene, The Scene, where it’s Davenport,Magnus, and Taako vs. Lup. Destroy an entire civilization to prevent the Hungerfrom consuming its powerful technology, or don’t, because we cannot letourselves decide their fate. Lup believed in the latter. This was abig moment for her character; I think this is when people started to see Lup asmore than just a goofball that got into antics with her brother.

TRB didn’t have a character like Lup to counter theirreasonings. Merle is pretty morally gray and a little unpredictable, Magnus is naïveand his blind loyalty to his friends can often obscure the bigger picture, andTaako puts himself (and his loved ones) first, always. We see Lup go against CaptainDavenport, her superior, and Taako, her brother. We hadn’t seen this from herbefore. This exchange cemented Lup as her own distinct character, who has theconfidence in herself to speak her mind, and the charm to win her audienceover. She served her role as a supporting character by challenging TRB’s decision, and also showed that yes, she has a beating heart, she is multidimensional, she is a fully realized creation! Fuck!

Lup is one of only two women in IPRE, and she’s the only womanon the show to fall in love with a man (as in they got together during theshow, and were not a preexisting couple). What’s great about this, though, isthat it’s Barry who falls for her first. It’s Barry who is The Lover, not Lup.It’s Barry who is so consumed for his love for her that he spends every wakingmoment after her disappearance to find her. It’s Barry who frequently bringsher up when TRB encounters him as a Red Robe throughout the podcast. Lup lovesBarry, but her love for him does not define her. Rather than a woman taking onthe mantle of The Lover, it’s a man.

Lup is instead under the title The Twins, which she shareswith her brother Taako. Despite having the same title, this doesn’t make them thesame person. Their personalities overlap in their sense of humor and love foreach other and their friends. However, Taako follows the mantra “Taako’s goodout here,” whereas Lup is more of a go-getter. She’s at the heart of the action;breaking free from the umbrastaff, donning her red robe, wreathed in flames,delivering a funny and endearing line… yeah, she knows how to steal thespotlight.

Taako and Lup are not interchangeable. Lup is fiery and alittle brash at times, but she has more compassion than her brother (look tothe robot plane incident). However, they both have great chemistry as siblings,and their relationship is believable. Lup’s line when she’s freed from theumbrastaff - “You’re dating the Grim Reaper?!” - is so fucking funny and such agreat nod to the bond they share as siblings (and one of the show’s core themesis the importance of bonds). They’re twins, no less, that raised themselves;they had only each other to trust, and no one else. Griffin and Justin conveythat so fucking well through every one of Lup and Taako’s interactions, whichis why as a team they’re so loved by fans.

Lup has a love interest, but her character doesn’t revolvearound Barry. Lup is Taako’s sister, but she isn’t just a twin. However, youcan’t remove these aspects from her and still have the same character.Everything Griffin has put into her serves to make her a more compelling person,and that’s what’s important. And she’s only an NPC, which I think only further provesThe Adventure Zone’s mastery over creating good characters. Lup is an exampleof what makes a great supporting character great, and how to make a character with somany strong ties to others stand on their own. She’s one of my favoritecharacters of all time for a reason.

Some of you may remember that I made a post a few days ago about an e-mail I received from GameStop saying that I had $61 in trade credit waiting for me thanks to trade-ins that I did at a store in my hometown ages ago that I honestly forgot about. You may also remember how GameStop’s website insisted that my e-mail address didn’t match what they had on file, despite how little that made sense.

Well, it’s time I brought you up to speed on that ongoing saga, because there have been updates.

I didn’t have time to call GameStop during the week because I work a full time job and kept forgetting about needing to call GameStop Power-Up Rewards Support during my working hours. (They are open for a couple hours after I get off work, but honest to god, I just kept forgetting.) It’s the weekend now, though, and was at 1am last night / this morning as well, so I decided to go ahead and give it another shot. Both to get the support number and just to see if it would work, I tried entering my information on the website again last night and---voila. It worked. I don’t know why they suddely recognized my e-mail address now, but it worked, and their site said that they would send me a code with my digital card information within four hours.

Cool! I don’t know why it would take four hours, but cool.

Anyway, so the first attempt at this was actually at 9pm last night. I waited four hours, and never received an e-mail. I checked in my spam folders, and nope. Nothing. The e-mail was just not there. So I went to the site and tried again (it was 1am by this point), and then waited another four hours, and still, nothing.

So today, when I woke up, I once again checked my spam folders and the like. No e-mail. That being the case, I called GameStop Power-Up Rewards support at last, and after waiting on hold for about twenty minutes, I finally spoke with a person who was able to help me. (There were plenty of moments waiting on hold once I explained the situation as well, but whatever, no big deal, I got the help I needed.) She ended up giving me a digital card number and PIN that I could use to use my $61 in trade credit. Awesome.

Now, by this point it has come to my attention that not only is Pokémon Ultra Sun coming out on the 17th, but Sonic Forces is also coming out on the 7th---and yes, I do want to play that game, don’t judge me. $61 is not enough to afford both of these games, and I can’t afford to pay money out of pocket for games right now. Those are a luxury, and every cent I have needs to go to necessities. However . . .

Way back when Sonic Mania released, I traded in my Wii U and Wii U games in order to afford it. Well, that, and I had no use for my Wii U anymore since Splatoon 2 came out on Switch, so I figured I might as well. Anyway, that trade-in earned me more money than I needed for Sonic Mania, but I had to download Sonic Mania off the eShop since no stores in the area had it. For this reason, I put all the trade-in money on an eShop card, and then loaded that eShop money into my Switch’s eShop account (which is apparently not shared between the Switch and 3DS despite both using Nintendo Network, and yes, I’ve checked). After purchasing Sonic Mania, I still had $30 left over in my Switch’s eShop account (yes, I’ve checked). This means that I technically have $90 to spend on games right now, albeit $30 of which is locked into the Switch’s eShop at present.

With that in mind . . .

Although I prefer to have physical copies of games because I like to see the game cases lined up on my shelf (and to that end I need to get a couple cases for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Sonic Mania), desperate times call for desperate measures. The plan I concocted was as such: Using GameStop’s website, I would purchase one $10 eShop card, and then put the remaining $50 on another eShop card. The $10 eShop card would be added to my Switch funds so that I would have the $40 to purchase Sonic Forces (since it’s $39.99---might have a little more to pay due to taxes and such, but a couple cents never hurt anyone). The $50 eShop card would then go to the 3DS to buy Ultra Sun (probably I should have just saved the $50 to buy the game physically, but whatever, I don’t care if I have to download it onto the 3DS, it’s not like I’ll use the 3DS after this, and besides, I can use the remaining funds for PokéBank, or merge them with the Switch later---or alternatively, maybe I can even return the $50, anything is possible). I completed these purchases, and GameStop’s website said they would e-mail me the download codes.

I’m sure you see where I’m going with this.

So far, I have received an order confirmation for the cards. However, I have not received the download codes. They’re not in my spam folder, either. I have a strong feeling that GameStop is bamboozling me again, which means guess who is going to get to have another fun time on the phone with GameStop support?

Honestly, GameStop, you practically have a monopoly on the video game retail industry. There’s really no excuse for this. Please just send people e-mails when they need them and stop trying to cheat them out of money, thanks.

Anyway, wish me luck. Hopefully this saga will be resolved peacefully.

So my lovely @whalien27​ tagged me in this a long long time ago but I was in the middle of getting a new laptop (’cause my old ones heroically broke down right after my finals and after almost 5 years of loyal service to someone who is like the female version of Namjoon when it comes to destruction power), moving between my school and Boston and my internship place, and of course the start of my internship. Mary Kay timewise moisturizer for combination skin, Mary Kay 3-in-1 timewise cleanser for combination skin, Mary Kay timewise day & night solution for combination skin, Kat Von D lock-it foundation, Mary Kay CC cream, tarte moisturizer/highlighter sampler, Loreal sampler make up remover, Loreal sample mascara, dollar store eye shadow, Better than Sex mascara, various lipsticks in the shade red or pink, pink highlighter from NYX (i think?), setting spray from Kat Von D... and a couple other items. I also have a couple sheet face masks and then a charcoal mask. I like make up a lot.

- I had a dream like freshman year of highschool that my grandmother was a witch and that she was pretending to have Alzheimer’s so that nobody would kill her since she was wanted for something. I wore goth lolita in the dream and the “home” she was in was in New York, inside a Victorian style house. I almost wrote a book based off it, since it ended up that I had to walk through a mystic door in an alley. It’s a crazy ass dream, and I did write a story called “The Door” in high school.
