#it would be more biased than just picking between songs that were actually nominated but some of my favorites went entirely unmentioned

sorry 2 bug you about this but do you know when the polls will be published?
i wanted to have everything ready for monday (feb 20) at around noon est but i really misjudged how long everything would take </3 </3
i'd like all the polls to be up and ready to vote on by wednesday ??? but i'll be a lot busier than i usually am this week. the start of voting might just have to be pushed back a few days :(
the brackets are So Close to being done but after taking the 2 songs per producer rule into account, the songs stop right at 62 (technically 61 ??? but someone put in a general nomination for every kagerou project song! while only one was formally nominated multiple times several other songs from the series were nominated ^^ ). if there's going to be a bracket w 64 songs it'll have be a bit longer than i originally expected orz
#asks#anon#it doesn't help that if i wanna have a bracket of 64 instead of 32 i have to listen to like . 175 songs .#maybe less ?????#there are a lot of producers i recognize and listen to but bc i've only ever seen their titles in japanese i just don't know their names#and w azari . azari my beloved but i genuinely don't know their song names#i didn't even know their producer name before starting this orz#so it'll probably be a whole lot less than 175 !#but there are still 115 nominated songs i'm pretty confident i have never listened to .#there are a whole bunch i'm familiar w ??????#like i've know about the evillious series plot for Years by now and could recognize even the songs i haven't heard yet at a glance#and i am aware of the danganronpa fan songs#but if i wanna be as unbiased as possible and give songs i'm not familiar w a chance i kinda have to get familiar w them#and that'll take . very very long unfortunately#i'll probably put up a poll for how many songs on the bracket honestly and go from there ???#if it's 32 it can Easily start on wednesday but if its 64 idk when :(#unless i cave and either decide to be biased or just use a random number generator i'll have to listen to all of those songs soon </3#or maybe since it's at 62 just have a blog runners pick matchup ???#it would be more biased than just picking between songs that were actually nominated but some of my favorites went entirely unmentioned </3#EDIT :: also i forgot to mention but it's not a bother at all !!#i'm pretty sure i said that the bracket would start monday ???? and i haven't given a single update since pretty much fhsdkj#i feel like it only makes sense to be curious about it#also the playlists are on their way <3

So I was reading about the first Oscars ceremony, and it had a division between Outstanding Picture and Best Unique & Artistic Film, where Unique & Artistic was apparently meant to be an equal to Outstanding Picture but dedicated more for prestige artistic works. The next year, the two categories became one from then on, and Outstanding Picture was the only top prize. (If any of that is wrong, blame wikipedia.)
If the split had remained, and there was a more commercial-y movie top prize and a prestige art top prize, what are some notable movies that suddenly pick up wins?
okay wait........ this is a brilliant question and i am ashamed to say i’ve never really given it much thought until now.
idk if you’ve seen wings and sunrise but they’re both pretty great and they do represent wildly different kinds of filmmaking. while it’s safe to say Wings is the more commercial film, it has great craftsmanship behind it and it very clearly created the template for accessible, capital-i Important, and well-made best picture winners to come.
and, full transparency, sunrise is one of my, like, top 15 favorite movies, so i’m hella biased, but that movie is a gorgeous and strange and thrilling piece of work. the title “unique and artistic film” is impossibly vague, but watching sunrise makes it very, very clear that it fits that bill for that category. and while we’ll, of course, never know what might have happened if that category had continued, it’s tempting to think that all the winners in unique and artistic film would be of sunrise’s calibre, but knowing the oscars... that’s clearly a fantasy, lol. while sunrise is a wildly inventive and artistic film, it’s important to remember that it was fully on the academy’s radar -- janet gaynor won best actress in part for her performance in the film, and it also won best cinematography. so while it’s tempting to think the academy would always recognize a truly unique and artistic achievement every year, in all likelihood, they probably wouldn’t stray too far from the movies that were already on their radar.
so for this thought experiment!!
it’s probably safe to assume every best picture winner has to go in one of the two categories. there are only a handful of winners that stick out as maybe missing out on the big win in this new system, but only a handful.
so uh. this is way more than you asked but i got hooked. here’s what i think might have happened if the two best picture categories had stuck around. as i was working through the years, it became clear to me that, unfortunately, in a lot of years, the unique and artistic film would likely end up going to the more overtly “prestigious” films, such as the song of bernadette or the life of emile zola, while their far better and more commercially viable rivals (casablanca for bernadette, the awful truth for zola) would win outstanding picture. the actual best picture winners have an asterisk next to them. what’s also interesting to consider is the importance of the best director category: most of the time, a split in picture and director will tell you what’s clearly the runner-up. those years, usually, give you a good sense of how the two awards would shake out.
Outstanding Picture / Unique and Artistic Film
1929: The Broadway Melody*; The Divine Lady
1930: The Big House; All Quiet on the Western Front*
1931: Cimarron*; Morocco
1932: Grand Hotel*; Bad Girl
1933: Little Women; Cavalcade*
1934: It Happened One Night*; One Night of Love
1935: The Informer; A Midsummer Night’s Dream (** this is one of the few years i think the actual BP winner, Mutiny on the Bounty, would miss out; The Informer was clearly the runner-up for BP with wins in director, actor, and screenplay, while Midsummer was seen as THE artistic triumph of the year, and with its historic write-in cinematography win, there was clearly a lot of passion for it)
1936: Mr. Deeds Goes to Town; The Great Ziegfeld*
1937: The Awful Truth; The Life of Emile Zola*
1938: You Can’t Take It With You*; Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Grand Illusion (** this one’s tough... Grand Illusion made history as the first non-english movie nominated for BP, and it clearly had a lot of support, but Snow White was such a monumental moment in Hollywood, and the academy clearly acknowledged that with its honorary award)
1939: Gone with the Wind*; The Wizard of Oz (** this is one of the first years with a clear runaway favorite for best picture, which makes guessing the way the other award would go very difficult! i’m leaning towards Oz purely because of its technical achievements, but i’m not confident about that choice at all.)
1940: Rebecca*; The Grapes of Wrath
1941: How Green Was My Valley*; Citizen Kane
1942: Yankee Doodle Dandy; Mrs. Miniver*
1943: Casablanca*; The Song of Bernadette
1944: Going My Way*; Wilson
1945: The Bells of St. Mary’s; The Lost Weekend*
1946: The Best Years of Our Lives*; Henry V
1947: Gentleman’s Agreement*; A Double Life
1948: The Treasure of the Sierra Madre; Hamlet*
1949: All the King’s Men*; The Heiress
1950: All About Eve*; Sunset Boulevard
1951: A Place in the Sun; An American in Paris*
1952: The Greatest Show on Earth*; The Quiet Man
1953: Roman Holiday; From Here to Eternity*
1954: The Country Girl; On the Waterfront*
1955: Marty*; Picnic
1956: Around the World in 80 Days*; Giant
1957: Peyton Place; The Bridge on the River Kwai
1958: The Defiant Ones; Gigi*
1959: The Diary of Anne Frank; Ben-Hur*
1960: Elmer Gantry; The Apartment*
1961: West Side Story*; Judgment at Nuremberg
1962: To Kill a Mockingbird; Lawrence of Arabia*
1963: Tom Jones*; 8½
1964: Mary Poppins; My Fair Lady*
1965: The Sound of Music*; Doctor Zhivago
1966: A Man for All Seasons*; Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
1967: In the Heat of the Night*; The Graduate
1968: Oliver!*; 2001: A Space Odyssey
1969: Midnight Cowboy; Z
1970: Airport; Patton*
1971: The French Connection*; The Last Picture Show
1972: The Godfather; Cabaret
1973: The Sting*; The Exorcist
1974: Chinatown; The Godfather, Part II
1975: Jaws; One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest*
1976: Rocky*; Network
1977: Star Wars; Annie Hall*
1978: Coming Home; The Deer Hunter*
1979: Kramer vs. Kramer*; All That Jazz
1980: Ordinary People*; Raging Bull
1981: Chariots of Fire*; Reds
1982: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial; Gandhi*
1983: Terms of Endearment*; Fanny and Alexander
1984: Amadeus*; The Killing Fields
1985: Out of Africa*; Ran
1986: Platoon*; Blue Velvet
1987: Moonstruck; The Last Emperor*
1988: Rain Man*; Who Framed Roger Rabbit
1989: Driving Miss Daisy*; Born on the Fourth of July
1990: Ghost; Dances with Wolves*
1991: The Silence of the Lambs*; JFK
1992: Unforgiven*; Howards End
1993: Schindler’s List*; The Piano
1994: Forrest Gump*; Three Colors: Red
1995: Braveheart*; Toy Story
1996: Jerry Maguire; The English Patient*
1997: Titanic*; L.A. Confidential
1998: Shakespeare in Love*; Saving Private Ryan
1999: The Cider House Rules; American Beauty*
2000: Traffic; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (** this is another year where i think the actual BP winner, Gladiator, might have missed out. it was a tight three-way race going into oscar night, and if there were two BP awards, i think this consensus might have settled, leaving Gladiator to go home with just actor and some tech awards.)
2001: A Beautiful Mind*; Mulholland Drive
2002: Chicago*; The Pianist
2003: Mystic River; The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King*
2004: Million Dollar Baby*; The Aviator
2005: Crash*; Brokeback Mountain
2006: The Departed*; Babel
2007: No Country for Old Men*; The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
2008: The Dark Knight; Slumdog Millionaire*
2009: The Hurt Locker*; Avatar
2010: The King’s Speech*; The Social Network
2011: The Artist*; The Tree of Life
2012: Argo*; Life of Pi
2013: 12 Years a Slave*; Gravity
2014: Birdman*; Boyhood
2015: Spotlight*; The Revenant
2016: La La Land; Moonlight*
2017: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; The Shape of Water*
2018: Black Panther; Roma (** again, i think Green Book gets bumped out in this scenario, i think Black Panther is precisely the kind of movie that benefits from an award that’s seemingly more ~populist~ while Roma easily snags the unique & artistic prize)
2019: 1917; Parasite*
2020: The Father; Nomadland*
but of course i have no idea at all, and most of these are just my gut reactions lol. what a fun question!

A Night on the Town (oneshot) by @supernatural-jackles
I completely love this fic!! Jensen is a total sweetheart, it’s really easy to read and all those words felt like only five minutes. This is everything a Jensen!girl could’ve asked for!!
Hunger (oneshot) by @impala-dreamer
HOLY. MOTHER. OF. HOTNESS. It was a fucking pleasure for my eyes to read every single word of this fic!! hot as hell, dark, Demon!Dean and in character as always.
Nominated by @mrswhozeewhatsis
Handkerchief (oneshot) by @babypieandwhiskey
I don’t usually read RPF, but this is an AU, so I dove in. Mechanic!Jensen with a magical supply of handkerchiefs, ready and willing to clean up whatever mess I find myself in? SOLD. Sweet, appeals to my love of Jensen’s back-pocket bandannas, and it activates my competence kink! Excuse me while I go wibble in the corner.
Nominated by @supernatural-jackles
Still The One (oneshot) by @luci-in-trenchcoats
I have a lot of respect for the way Michelle writes such difficult topics. She approaches them with such grace and accuracy, that makes it all the more realistic. This series is no exception. I deeply enjoy this series and the way things are playing out between Dean and the reader. It’s an extremely heartbreaking story that most of us don’t really think about until it’s put into this kind of perspective. This one is still ongoing, and I’m extremely excited to see how she handles the rest of the story. I highly recommend checking this one out. Just heed the warnings beforehand.
Nominated by @peridottea91
Healthy Competition (Series) by @kittenofdoomage
This! Omg this series! I love it so much!! It’s slower moving but keeps you itching for the next chapter and is oh so relatable. What woman hasn’t had body image issues? And what plus sized woman hasn’t had to deal with rude jerks and bullying? This fic is actually super realistic and hits all those relatable issues. Can’t wait to read the rest!!
Dangerous Signs (Series) by @kittenofdoomage
Ok, let me start by saying that I am a sucker for a good “character transported to alt. universe/world” fic. That said, I got soooooooooo addicted to this fic! It was so well written and you could just feel the reader’s hesitation and torn emotions. Should she stay? Should go? Ugh! Fantastic!! Also, kudos for the Norse mythology!! *chef’s kiss*
Nominated by @thegirlwhorunswithwinchesters
Cotton Candy (oneshot) by @ellewritesfix05
“It was always nice knowing [...] you could always find ways to bring light into Dean’s life.”
And he damn well deserves it! This was so sweet. No one can resist that “I didn’t do it” smile of his ;)
The Oath (Series) by @thecleverdame
This series is definitely dark, but it’s so so good. If you’re okay with reading about the heavy subjects covered in these chapters, you won’t regret giving this series a try. I can’t seem to stop diving into all of this author’s content. She’s just too good.
Choices (CYOE) by @talesmaniac89
I’ve been excited about this impressive project since I first saw the announcement post. Though I’m ashamed to say I haven’t gotten into reading the full thing yet, I plan on making time for reading ALL the different endings. I’m excited to see the different ways in which the story plays out, depending on the brothers’ personalities. For now, I’m recommending this first chapter, the starting point, which was already a beauty of its own. If you haven’t started yet yourself, prepare to be amazed.
Not Safe (Oneshot) by @torn-and-frayed
I love this. Spicy but sweet… Is that a cringy enough way for me to try and put my thoughts into words? I also just really miss Bobby, man.
nominated by @impala-dreamer
Safe Here (series) by @because-imma-lady-assface
This is one of the greatest Dean series. Ashley writes Dean amazingly well, too well sometimes, and this series gives him exactly what he needs; a place to feel safe and find comfort. I love this one so much!
Losing You (series) by @idreamofhazel
This is a superbly done Sam series that has stuck with me for a long time. I literally can’t go into Bed, Bath & Beyond without thinking about the ending <3
nominated by @kittenofdoomage
Blind Luck (oneshot) by @crispychrissy
A great Sam x reader that hits the holy trifecta of smut, fluff, and angst.
Blood And Water (series) by @crashdevlin
Pretty sure I’ve recc’d this before but it’s such a good series, so twisted and angsty, my dark little heart loves it. Heed the warnings!
Just Sam (oneshot) by @dontshootmespence
This might not be everyone’s cup of tea but for me, it’s perfection, because I am a kinky bitch and any other kinky bitches out there would definitely enjoy this XD
nominated by @deanwanddamons
Private Party With A Rockstar (oneshot) by @mummybear
@mummybear Has been working her butt off this month for her RolePlay May. She wrote this story for me and put me in it (my name is Sian). Rockstar!Jensen is one of my weakness’s, and she knows that, and clearly knows me very well too, as included everything I like 😉
She’s Not You by @winchest09
@winchest09 is one of my fave authors. This is a super cute, super fluffy fic which really cheered me up.
Dangerous Signs (Series) by @kittenofdoomage
I LOVED this series. it was so good and lots of fun with some very sexy going’s on. Rhi’s work is just fantastic 💕
Wedding Bells (oneshot) by @katehuntington
This one shot is super cute and fluffy! I love her writing so much and this is not exception 💕
Not Much Left (oneshot) by @impala-dreamer
Demon!Dean is another of my weakness’s and fic really hit the spot 🥵🔥
Dear Dean (series) by @smol-and-grumpy
This series made me laugh, made me cry, made me horny and made me gasp. One of the best series I have read 💕
nominated by @emilyshurley
Jensen’s Self Care Routine (oneshot) - @luci-in-trenchcoats
It is just adorable. People taking care of themselves for their loved ones. You can’t get more fluffy.
The Proposal (series) - @katymacsupernatural (Ongoing)
If you love fake dating fics, you’ll definitely love this one. Really like the character of “the reader”.
Private Party with a Rockstar (oneshot) - @mummybear
This one is both hot and adorable at the same time
You shook me (oneshot) @myinconnelly1
It’s Myin writing Demon!Dean what more do you want? No seriously that’s the perfect combination
Dancing the Spiral (oneshot) by @myinconnelly1
One of the only times I genuinely felt like a fic was creepy in a good way. And the passing of the whole thing is great. Am I little biased because its Myin, yes but that doesn’t make the fic any less good. sure it’s on the longer side but definitely worth it.
The only exception (series) - @ne-gans and @negans-lucille-tblr
I have only read the first part so far but I had to mention it. It is a serial killer AU so read the trigger warnings just in case.
Make it Big (series)- @negans-lucille-tblr
Again I’m still catching up It’s one of those fics I thought I won’t like reading but was really glad that I started.
Cast no Shadow (series) @kittenofdoomage
It’s Rhi, I can fangirl a lot about her fics. Really enjoyed (?) (that might not be the right word) the whole fitting a new relationship in existing ones. Felt to real in a weird way. It might seem like I don’t like the fic because of how I’m wording this but that’s really not the case.
Nominated by @deanwinchesterswitch
Sunshine (oneshot) by @talesmaniac89
If you like angst, this is the fic for you. It is utterly captivating and heart wrenching. It’s a cut your heart out with a dull centuries-old wooden spoon style hurt. The use of the song lines in this fic is well thought out and poetic. Make sure to have a box of tissues handy. If you don’t at least tear up while reading this, then you don’t have a heart to cut out, and your soul is already in hell.
Choices (CYOE) by @talesmaniac89
A clever interactive series where you get to choose your favorite Winchester, and the ending of the story. This is so detailed and intriguing. I loved the story I ended up with the first time, and excitedly went back in to pick the other options. Each story was unique and well written.
Babe I’m Gonna Leave You (oneshot) by @waywardbaby
This one shot is an absolutely stunning piece of smut. The lack of dialogue makes it that much better. All you’re left with is the option to feel the detailed emotions—sexual tension to the max.
No Words (oneshot) by @because-imma-lady-assface
Beautiful, detailed, and heartbreaking. Dean’s pain and need for comfort are palpable, and I cried while reading it. I can’t find the proper words to describe how this fic made me feel, but man did it ever make me feel.
Sky Full of Stars (oneshot) by @smol-and-grumpy
This is the sequel to Something Just Like This and is just as exciting as the first series. A roller coaster of suspense. The characters continue on their journey of love, dealing with the good and bad that comes with every relationship—the perfect combination of angst and fluff with a healthy dose of smut.
Something Just Like This (oneshot) by @smol-and-grumpy
A perfect combination of big badass Dean and soft, fluffy Dean, along with all the incredible smut your little heart could desire. I usually don’t like to read a series until it is complete, because I am impatient and don’t want to wait for the next chapter to post. However, this story was intriguing and sexy, and I couldn’t keep from reading each chapter as soon as it posted and then eagerly anticipating the next.
Nominated by anon
Request 42 (oneshot) by @thegirlwhorunswithwinchesters
This was super-duper cute!! I love frustrated soon to be parents especially when one of those parents is Dean! Great work, well worth the read!
Just A Daydream (onesho) by @maddiepants
This fic is refreshing with its canon-ness! I love Sam's little dream, and you get so wrapped up in it, you forget. Absolutely masterful and HOT AS HELL! Also, Tall People, WTF?
Tumblr media
Thank you all for the awesome work and great feedback!
These are not actual awards! This system is set up so everyone in the pond has a chance to share the love and promote a fic/author that has grabbed your attention. The more people that participate, and the more everyone remembers to submit their own fics after posting, the better this will be :D
THANK YOU ALL AGAIN, KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK, AND AS ALWAYS, HAPPY WRITING!

What the hell is going on with the Grammys - a massive master post.
Buckle up; this is a mess.
So as we all know, Grammy nominations came out on Tuesday. And... whew there’s a lot to unpack. So this master post is (hopefully) going to explain all the different strands of this.
A disclaimer before we start: this is in no way bashing the artists who have been nominated. I am sure they all work immensely hard and although they submit themselves, most of them have 0 say in the nominations process. For the love of God - we’re not going after any individual artist.
(also, just for clarity and conciseness: this post is going to focus on the “Big 4″ in terms of nominations - Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of The Year and Album of the Year).
So - Best New Artist. As a category I’m happy with all the nominees - the criteria is weird as hell though (basically you can just keep submitting yourself up to 3 times? and it doesn’t matter how far into your career you are? ok I guess). I’d love for Phoebe Bridgers or Megan Thee Stallion to take it personally, but I’m happy with all the nominees. It’d be nice to see Blackpink get an acknowledgement but they could end up getting nominated next year because of eligibility dates. So yeah, no major issues with Best New Artist.
Just to clarify before we move on - Wikipedia has better definition of the difference between SOTY and ROTY so I’m just going to paste it here:
Record of the Year is awarded for a single or for one track from an album. This award goes to the performing artist, the producer, recording engineer and/or mixer for that song. In this sense, "record" means a particular recorded song, not its composition or an album of songs.
Song of the Year is also awarded for a single or individual track, but the recipient of this award is the songwriter who actually wrote the lyrics and/or melodies to the song. "Song" in this context means the song as composed, not its recording
ROTY: Record of the year ... it’s very safe. Rockstar, Say So, Everything I Wanted, Don’t Start Now, Circles and Savage were all expected. The Black Pumas song is an outlier but normally there’s a couple of smaller songs on the nominees list so not a complete surprise. Black Parade is also a bit of a turnup - it’s a great song and obviously had some momentum this summer but wasn’t huge . I was surprised not to see The Weeknd in this category (more on that later); would have nice to see BTS on the list but again, not shocking.
SOTY: A mix? I guess? Most of it is overlap from ROTY - but there’s a few different songs in the way of Cardigan, I Can’t Breathe and If The World Was Ending. Personally, I’m really happy that Cardigan and I Can’t Breathe are in there - my personal favorite would be I Can’t Breathe Winning. “If The World Was Ending” ... was there I guess? So congratulations.
AOTY: Oh boy. AOTY is a mix. So the less surprising inclusions: Folklore and Future Nostalgia. I do genuinely believe it’s a tossup between those two now as to who wins AOTY - I’m going to give the edge to Taylor right now because she’s won it before for Fearless and 1989 but I’m not sure the Recording Academy would give it to her 1 in 4 years ish consistently. Then again, Taylor is a Grammys darling and 2nd highest Metacritic score of the nominations, so it wouldn’t shock me. I’m shocked HAIM are nominated in the best possible way (it’s my personal AOTY), but the rest ... I’m stunned by. Djesse Vol 3 is also great but I don’t think it has a shot; Chilombo was good but not brilliant, Black Pumas got in with a deluxe version (yes it’s a good album, but it’s going to be close to 2 years old by the time the Grammys roll round), I’m not a massive fan of Hollywood’s Bleeding but Post Malone’s commercial impact can’t be denied. Coldplay is the one I find most bizarre - it wasn’t a particularly good album nor did it stick around commercially. So yeah - it would nice for HAIM to take it (I think they have a shot of pulling a “Golden Hour” and taking it home) but I’d be shocked if it didn’t go to Taylor.
So. Yes, there were some snubs - I thought Harry Styles would get a SOTY nomination, I was also expecting BTS to sneak into a couple of categories; Phoebe deserved an AOTY nomination and Rina Sawayama deserved some recognition. However.
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE WEEKND?
The Weeknd not getting a single nomination. How? No matter which way you look at it, Blinding Lights, should be up for ROTY or at least in the Pop categories. OK, so After Hours isn’t going to be one of the all time great albums, but you can’t look at that list and think “hmm, yes; they’re all objectively better than After Hours.” Because they’re not. That’s a fact. The Weeknd has spoken out against the Grammys in the past (which I’ll come to in a minute), but the truth of the matter is is that the Grammys are institutionally biased. Let’s roll back to 2015. In 2016, the nominees for AOTY were 1989, Beauty Behind The Madness, Sound & Color, To Pimp a Butterfly and Traveler. Thinking about this in terms of critical success, the Grammy should have gone to Kendrick for “To Pimp A Butterfly”. It went to 1989. Ok, so 1989 is a great album! and commercially, was the biggest selling album that year. So from, that (and the following year, where 25 won over Lemonade) we could deduce that the Grammy focuses on the album that’s made the most commercial impact. HOWEVER: if we carry this logic into 2021, none of the nominees make any sense. Surely if they did, then only Folklore and Future Nostalgia would be on their. No matter how you look at it, After Hours straddled the line of being inescapable for a year and of getting great reviews. It should have been nominated for AOTY and that’s the bottom line of it.
So why wasn’t it?
Probably The Weeknd criticizing the Grammys previously didn’t help. But according to that bastion of news, TMZ, he was given the choice between performing at the Grammys or at Superbowl. The Weeknd negotiated, and agreed to do both. He was announced to be performing at the Superbowl on 12th November (link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-54921206) . Grammy noms come out on the 24th, TMZ reports he was given the choice between Superbowl and Grammys about 8 hours after the nominations (https://www.tmz.com/2020/11/24/the-weeknd-ultimatum-grammys-super-bowl-performance-snub/) . Then, The Weeknd tweets this maybe an hour later (https://twitter.com/theweeknd/status/1331394452447870977). To add insult to injury, he went from being in “negotiations to perform” to no nominations. Now that’s a kick in the teeth.
A day later, the president of the Grammys, Harvey Mason Jr. does an interview with Variety (https://variety.com/2020/music/news/grammy-harvey-mason-weeknd-snub-show-1234839208/). Gives a load of non-answers as expected. But he does talk about the Grammy committee.
We don’t know much about how the Grammy voting process works. If you’re a member, you listen to the songs in the categories and then vote. BUT THEN. The top 20 songs/albums go to the committee. There’s 20 people on the committee - some with direct links to labels and artists. So they could hypothetically pick songs ranked 15-20 and nominate then. Which is why I think The Weeknd was majorly snubbed. I think The Weeknd got into the top 20 in all the categories he was nominated in and the committee overruled. That’s my theory anyway. The Grammys have been problematic for years - but since I’ve been following then from 2015ish - they’ve been accused racism (lack of BAME winners), sexism (remember the “well women should make better music” comments in 2018 https://variety.com/2018/music/news/grammys-so-male-women-recording-academy-president-neil-portnow-1202679902/) and then the mysterious ousting of Deborah Dugan at the start of last year (https://www.vox.com/2020/1/26/21082057/2020-grammys-sexual-harassment-corruption-recording-academy-deborah-dugan-rigged-nominations).
When Deborah Dugan was fired, she alleged sexual misconduct and voter corruption in the academy. (If I can find a copy of the original PDF I will, https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jan/22/suspended-grammys-chief-deborah-dugan-alleges-sexual-misconduct-in-recording-academy). But honestly the article speaks for itself. The grammys are corrupt, and not a true measure of artistic integrity.
So, as much as I find them fascinating - let’s not give them any more weight then they deserve. If your fave has a nomination, great! If not, it doesn’t make them any less of an artist. 2020 has been a fabulous year for music, so let’s concentrate on that.
It’s impossible to cover every aspect of the Grammys in one tumblr post, and well done if you’ve made it to the end. If anyone has any questions, I’ll try and answer them to the best I can.
Thank you so much for reading! And Happy Thanksgiving, remember to donate to Native people today if you can - here’s a link to some places to donate https://twitter.com/MsKellyMHayes/status/1332000439378784261 !

For the film asks, all of them? (2010/Chris Evans/Brie Larson/Edgar Wright for the *insert here* questions)
ahh!!! thank you so much for asking anon! this will take a while so i will probs stick most of it under a cut :)
a movie you’ve seen most times in cinema.
i answered this one here!
your most rewatched movie.
that’d be between toy story, the lord of the rings trilogy, moulin rouge, to all the boys i’ve loved before and this weird animated film called tubby the tuba. my grandma owned it on vhs and i spent basically every school holiday at her house so i watched it more times than i can think of!
a movie you quote on a daily basis.
i quote dumb youtube videos more than films on a regular basis, but i do quote a lot of lord of the rings lines like “it comes in pints?!” or anything else that comes out of one of the hobbits mouths.
favorite movie soundtrack
probably moulin rouge? that or the first guardians of the galaxy. they’re the only two that i still own on CD..
top 5 films of your favorite actor and actress
okay so my initial thought for favourite actor is actually tom hanks, so in that case.
forrest gump
philadelphia
toy story
 the green mile
larry crowne (not the most amazing film in the world but it’s so endearing to me!)
and for actress i would probably say toni colette? her or blake lively, but i don’t have a top five for either of them. for toni it’d be;
about a boy
muriel’s wedding
miss you already
and for blake it’d be;
a simple favor
the age of adeline
elvis and annabelle
top 5 performances of your favorite actor and actress.
see above, they’re one and the same to me.
a movie storyline you wish you had actually lived.
about time. might be biased since i’m watching it now, but it’d be nice to do things over if i could.
a movie that reminds you of your mum.
local hero. i’ve watched it with her many times and it’s one of her favourites.
a movie that reminds you of your dad.
any of the harry potter films. we went to all of them at the cinema together.
favorite movies from your childhood.
it’s gonna be toy story again. this will likely be a running theme, i fucking love this movie.
favourite quote(s).
too many to count from the lord of the rings. sam’s monologue at the end of the two towers, gandalf speaking to pippin in return of the king. also sam saying “i can’t carry it for you, but i can carry you!”. this is really just a love letter to sam now, isn’t it….
top 5 favorite female performances.
i would have to come back to this, i can’t brain right now.
top 5 favorite male performances.
see above.
favourite year for movies.
after googling, it looks like 1993 was a bloody good year.
your favorite movies from [insert year].
2010 is the year you mentioned and from looking on google, my faves are toy story 3, how to train your dragon, black swan, scott pilgrim vs the world, easy a, megamind, tangled, AHH DAYDREAM NATION CAME 2010!! MY FAVE!! man, 2010 was a good one :D
favorite [insert actor/actress/director] movies?
so you said chris evans, brie larson and edgar wright. so faves in order would be:
short term 12
captain america: the winter soldier
hot fuzz or the world’s end (can’t pick between the two soz)
list all you’ve seen from [insert actor/actress/director].
so many, my dude. so many.
an underrated actor.
brain is fried. i’m sure there’s some but i’m blanking hard.
an underrated actress.
see above.
an underrated director.
see above.
an overrated actor.
johnny fucking depp.
an overrated actress.
scarlett johansson soz lol
an overrated director.
QUENTIN FUCKING TARANTINO
a film you wish you had seen on the big screen.
like any of my favourite 80s movies or the original psycho. also the lord of the rings, for some reason my folks didn’t take me to those.
a movie you’ve seen that you think no one else’s here will have heard of?
i am yet to encounter someone who knows the previously mentioned tubby the tuba.
favorite movie characters.
steve rogers, rapunzel from tangled, leia skywalker, lara-jean song-covey
a film that was better than the book.
i love to all the boys i loved before, but the film captured me in a way that the book didn’t as much.
best remake.
i’d watch tom holland or andrew garfield over tobey maguire for spiderman any day fight me.
your first favorite actor.
probably orlando bloom? back when i was a wee bab, i watched anything of his that i could find at the video rental.
your first favorite actress.
hilary duff probably. child me watched all of lizzie mcguire and any movies of hers.
favorite animated film.
if you’ve read this far and can’t figure it out, i don’t know what to say. it’s toy story, obviously.
your most anticipated films.
endgame and basically any other superhero movie coming out, toy story 4, the sequel for to all the boys i’ve loved before, the richard curtis movie called yesterday that is coming out in june (???) i think, STAR WARS.
last movie that disappointed you.
sierra burgess is a loser. fuck, no one else wanted that movie to be good as much as i did.
last movie that surpassed your expectations
nothing will ever match how blown away i was by pacific rim when i saw it. i went with my cousin knowing literally NOTHING about it. also i guess 2017′s it. i’m not big on seeing horror at the cinema and i didn’t expect to find it as funny as i did because the kids in it were so great.
actor in need of new agent.
idk bruh, i can’t think of anything right now for this.
actress in need of new agent.
see above.
share an unpopular film opinion you have.
idk how unpopular this is because i’m pretty sure thanks to #metoo most people want these kind of people want out of hollywood, but i despise woody allen and roman polanski films. the fact that i had to study them while getting my degree is despicable, and the argument that they’ve done a lot for the film industry is trash. don’t make their work important, studying it so thoroughly gives it power and i want to never have to speak about their trash again.
favorite Oscar win/speech.
who couldn’t say olivia colman’s from this years oscars. that warmed my cold dead heart and i cried for her.
biggest Oscar snub(s).
arrival should have won/been nominated for more than it did.
who do you think is overdue for another nomination/win?
amy adams!!! she was so fucking amazing in arrival, i wanted her to win all of the things.
how many movies have you seen (rough estimation)?
must be hundreds (not that these answers are any indication since i’ve talked about approx four films) since i own hundreds of DVDs, i go to the cinema regularly, i am constantly watching stuff on netflix and any other streaming services.
a movie that made you go ‘wtf was that’.
un chien andalou, requiem for a dream and mothlight. the first two because they’re fucking disturbing, the last one because its just close ups of parts of moths and i had to watch it for a film paper. it’s a no from me.
a film that scarred you.
the mummy. the beetle under the skin gave me nightmares and i haven’t been able to watch it since.
most movies watched in a single day.
i havent’t taken notes, but i did watch all of the mcu movies with cap in them recently in a day?
a film that always makes you cry.
coco. i’ve yet to make it through without having a full on mental breakdown for the last third of that movie. also marley and me because doggos. and the last part of mamma mia: here we go again. and philadelphia. the take away from this answer is that i cry a lot in movies.
a film that always makes you laugh.
hot fuzz. in my first flat we watched it nearly everyday for like two weeks when we all moved in and watching it makes me think of how much we all laughed and quoted it to one another.
movies that you think everyone should watch (not necessarily your favorites).
get out, psycho, star wars, at least one classic film noir, arrival, the cornetto trilogy, back to the future. there’s more but i think this is a good starter for what i at least find to be important viewing.
a movie that took you a couple of viewings to appreciate.
honestly probably the lord of the rings. they didn’t really click with me until high school, and then they really really clicked. also fight club i guess; the second time around watching it, i got the toxic masculinity themes more. it sucks that men read that movie as the exact opposite.
a book you want to see adapted to the big screen.
i believe i already answered this here!
a book you really, really, really don’t want to see made into a film.
does jk rowling’s twitter count? i want to see nothing more from the harry potter universe that she has had anything to do with.
favorite child performance.
the kids in the goonies and it 2017 come to mind. let kids act like kids!!!
favorite pre-code.
mate, you are making the assumption that i remember enough of the old films i studied in my degree, and that i remember the pre-code dates. i’m sure i have one, but that is buried far too deep in my brain to actually remember.
Favorite silent film.
i really enjoyed the buster keaton stuff we watched when i did my history of film paper.
favorite coming of age film.
boyhood, love simon, the edge of seventeen, my girl (i’ll be honest, i just googled coming of age movies and picked my faves from the top results. doesn’t mean i don’t stand by these!!)
favorite superhero film.
captain america: the winter soldier, spiderman: into the spiderverse, black panther and the dark knight rises.
best cinematography.
i still really like her and wes anderson for their cinematography.
movies you know you should watch, but can’t bring yourself to do it?
so fucking many, my dude. the amount of movies i wrote essays about when i had watched maybe three scenes and read the synopsis is insane. after getting a degree in it, and with how burned out i got, i found it very hard to give a shit about classics that lecturers told me were important. the big one is the godfather; it’ll be a cold day in hell when i finally watch that one.
favorite genres.
i’m a sucker for anything romantic. also film noir, superheroes, animated, female-led, stuff set in the 80s, lgbt film (that isn’t gross and exploitative), comedy horrors. idk man, it’s hard to describe.
least favorite genres.
dull as fuck period pieces that say approximately nothing new and hash out the same old tired shit about treatment of poc and/or women. comedies in the same vein of austin powers, napoleon dynamite and sasha baron cohen stuff. white feminist narratives. anything that is shitty about fat women.
biggest movie pet peeve.
dark for no fucking reason!!! let films be bright and happy!!! ya girl hates having to strain her eyes to see what the heck is going on.

Tony Awards Thoughts
So it looks like, at least for now, the CBS website lets you watch it for free (at least in the US). Here are my thoughts using those time stamps (be warned I have a long running commentary)
0:23 Oh is this going to be a parody of her playing the piano on last year’s Tony’s
1:05 How has neither one of them won anything? I mean I get if they said neither one of them one a Tony cause I mean, they both did shows that one time…but anything?
1:18 Is there anything more Broadway than saying the same rehearsed thing at the same time and pretending it was just part of the banter? Oh theater tropes I love you
1:36 That’s always been something that bothered me, people assume that just because something didn’t win the Tony doesn’t mean its not a great show, and the show that wins might not even be the best one that season (you know who you are). I love the Tony’s but its an award show, people don’t stop watching tv shows and movies or listening to artists that didn’t win or weren’t nominated, it makes me sad that so many shows close post Tony’s just because they weren’t the big winner. Anyways…
1:53 THEY CELEBRATED THE LOSERS LIKE ME, these A list celebrities that are totally not losers are soooo relatable ;)
2:40 A few years ago Something Rotten did what I thought was a brilliant advertising campaign listing amazing shows that lost the Tonys like them, so the fact that it was put into song gave me a fond flashback. See? SEE??? Oh it feels so good to be vindicated on tv
3:49 “If you make art at all your a part of the cure” :)
4:10 THEY HAD THE ENSEMBLE MEMBERS BE THE ONES IN THE OPENING NUMBER RATHER THAN THE LEADS THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY. If only my high school self could have seen this she would have felt so much better
6:42 I didn’t see any of the plays this year but I heard the most about Angels in America this season so not surprised. Looks interesting
7:45 Happy Pride Month
8:40 Bake a cake for everyone who wants a cake to be baked would actually be a pretty good diction warmup
14:10 Kinda surprised that they didn’t pick Rather Be Me or Apex Predator considering those are the really marketed songs. “Where We Belong” seems a lot like “Status Quo” from High School Musical. I mean you’ll get that about high school clicks in the lunch room with a blond queen bee but like, even the dance moves felt similar, and the lunch tray dancing, even the giant cat decal. But like, it's not as catchy? I didn’t expect them to win anything tonight but I really don’t think they’ll win anything now? Is that mean? Just cause it feels like it was supposed to be a high energy number and it didn’t have that energy I thought it would. Also come on, just cause you want the girls to be shallow and dumb doesn’t mean the lyrics have to be that cringey. This feels like a less good version of if Legally Blonde and High School Musical had a baby (I absolutely love Legally Blonde that was not intended to be an insult to either show).
15:00 Is it me or did Amy Schumer look like she wanted to say something but Rachel Bloom kept talking. But it didn’t really have any joke setup or serve as a good segway for commentary, what could she have wanted to say?
15:35 Later on I’m going to see if I can find the award speeches that didn’t get televised. most of the world doesn’t get broadway they get regional theater, I wanted to hear what they had to say
15:45 Nick Scandalious feels like a cartoon name you’d see in an Onion article about the Me Too movement. His face even looks like the generic celebrity that had a TMZ scandal five years ago. I thought I read it wrong at first lol
16:40 I was cracking up they know their brand so well. The air quotes on emotional, perfect!
17:10 Mini Sara and Josh are so cute!
17:50 Ok I missed the reference, what is the giant bird lady from?
18:10 oh
20:57 celebrity child picture counter: #3 Amy Schumer. Also guess which year the musical described as “a comedy about class and sexism” is from? Yup it’s My Fair Lady, the audience laughed like I did in that sort of this is funny but also sad kinda way
26:00 This was so overacted and hammy and one day I aspire to that level of loud printed robes. Coincidentally my name is also spelled like Eliza but my voice is not nearly that good. Also does it count as drag if they are clearly men in dresses with some comical makeup or is there another name for it when they aren’t actually trying to look feminine?
26:18 The twitter usernames were too small to see on my screen who were the twitter pictures of?
26:30 See above comment
27:00 What show did Billy Joel work on? Also Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Josh Groban maybe my mom will finally enjoy theater
29:12 Oh my gosh that picture of Titus Burgess is amazing as is that suit. And that intro is so Titus its great
30:07 Renee Fleming we’ve got the Opera world here too? It’s so many famous musicians from outside broadway on broadway, think of all the crossovers
32:50: Yes spongebob get Josh Groban to sing more thank you for your service. Ok I’m not a huge fan of spongebob but they have to win for sound design that guy is on overload
33:27 Lol it explains so much why the songs sound disjointed cause they got a billion people to write them. Also lol I was waiting for that joke
33:50 Also what I thought would happen would be a medley that way Spongebob who really is the driving energy of the show and Squidward played by the Broadway darling would both have a song. This wasn’t how I expected them to do it, but I was sort of right so I’ll count it. I’m not really a fan of Spongebob the musical (I’ve listened to it twice once when it first came out and once during Tony Season. I’m not one of the people who hate it off the sheer premise and won’t give it a chance, but I just thought it was meh and not worth having the most nominations.) But Squidward’s song is very me, not in terms of melody cause that is I find most of the melodies to be rather generic but the lyrics are 100% me trying to convince myself. Also all I will be thinking about for the rest of the will be what tap dancing must feel like its gotta feel weird how long do you think he spent practicing it with and without the extra legs. Or it might be nightmare fuel with the sea anemone contributing to it, who knows? Probably both,
38:07 still don’t know whose handles those are
38:28 ^^^
38:40 Ok when I saw the outfits I was expecting a Chorus Line Parody, but this Sia parody fits this every genre but musical theater theme of this Broadway season
39:20 Eight times a week, and all the subsequent puns
40:28 Can I just say I love this return to singing interludes over awkward award show banter?
41:44 I saw the Bands Visit a few month’s back and I still don’t know how to describe it. Normally I would guess it would be the second fiddle of the Tony’s but considering the “purists” it’ll probably win most of the awards
44:16 With all the previous reaction shots you knew it had to be Nathan Lane. I always forget how well spoken he is because of his typical roles but he is really well spoken and sincere rather than trying to wise crack and it was so sweet. It made me smile
47:43 His face saying “blow high” has got to be a gif right?
51:45 The entirety of the Carousel number was me thinking if I had a higher sex drive this would totally make me thirsty. They also used very creative ways to physically embody the shape and workings of a ship but then again I’m admittedly biased. Listen to that number you know their vocal prowess was not why they picked it
52:12 I mean, I know that crew gets less attention than cast and plays less attention than musicals but I would watch the full version stop cutting out the speeches. C’mon I love costumes
53:04 I know your joking but that hurts
53:19 yes #4 famous kid photo Uzo Aduba
55:49 Ari'el Stachel’s speech is made all the more poignant when you realize everyone else in his category were white. Despite this season’s commerciality you actually do have shows and casts with Asian leads and African American leads and Latin American leads and Middle Eastern leads somewhere between the sea of shows like Spongebob and Frozen. Show these shows some love, prove that Hamilton wasn’t the anomaly but the rule
56:55 They brought the Parkland teacher for the theater education award! Fitting 65 students into a high school teacher’s office for hours to protect them is not easy, she saved lives that day
58:17 I thought #5 Matthew Morrison was a girl in his child pic
58:40 They went to Parkland?!
59:35 OMG they’re performing!?!
1:00:10 Seasons of Love is the Perfect song for this, they sound so good too!
1:01:18 Girl has an amazing voice! Dang to get up there in front of all of these famous performers on live TV after the media has already hounded them and putting yourself out there is courageous
1:02:45 I can’t see the handles
1:03:11 Will they be able to top NPH’s Tony magic trick though??? Probably not but let’s see
1:03:31 So cheesy but tbh if I had a Harry Potter wand I’d be even cheesier
1:03:46 Was that line improved or was the tech delay intentional?
1:04:22 C’mon Squidward already pulled the same “trick” you have ensemble block the audience pov while someone enters from the back. Didn’t even come close to topping NPH
1:04:43 Little Patti Lupone I can’t believe she allowed them to include her picture of lil’ Patti
1:05:04 I just wanted to include Patti’s line about a “deep appreciation for outspoken women” cause I actually said “you go girl” out loud
1:05:35 Yeah, fun fact, Tony wasn’t a man but was actually short for Antoinette. They referenced it multiple times before, including earlier tonight, but it was stated most explicitly here
1:06:35 Is that a young or modern Claire Danes, I can’t tell
1:07:39 Also it’s really cool that an older woman won something, I feel like the stage gives more roles for older woman that other acting industries, also if people argue that she was political she served political office. Also how cool is it that apparently people were there from every recognized country?
1:09:27 so that’s how they do Sven, I knew Olaf was supposed to be an Avenue Q style puppet but the way they move Sven is really cool (it’s the technique they used on things like War Horse, I don’t know if it’s considered costuming or puppetry or what the official name is)
1:10:20 Anna looks exactly as I pictured her, and they changed a few minor lyrics for it to fit the stage
1:10:44 There are so many quick changes tonight
1:11:22 Elsa did not look like what I imagined her to be, but the costumes are on point
1:12:00 The chorus versions of these songs have beautiful harmony, but Olaf shouldn’t be there yet right? Isn’t he “born” in Let it Go
1:12:47 Alright I’ve been waiting to see how they’ll do the snow effects!
1:14:00 They got out of building the castle by already having it built at the beginning of the song, which is smart technically but I wanted to see how they do it, unless it’s one of those things that’s a surprise for when you see it live.
1:14:25 Never call it “Daddy’s Day” ever again. Never.
1:14:46 I can’t see the handles
1:14:59 How could you not show Chita Rivera’s lifetime achievement? I’ve been lucky enough to see her in more than one show and she is incredible.
1:15:13 And you also cut out Andrew Lloyd Webber’s?? You made the wrong cuts Broadway
1:15:25 It looks like they’re going to show a tribute I’m excited!!!
1:17:42 Two things: Andrew Lloyd Webber has written a weird collection of musicals, like when you see clips of them back to back you realize just how weird of a collection it is, and Josh Groban needs to be the next Phantom
1:18:08 That exchange was so physically awkward they haven’t even started talking yet and I feel the cringe
1:19:18 Is “I swore I’d never do something like that” shade against the La La Land debacle? In 2018? Or am I reading too much into it
1:19:21 I saw the Band’s Visit but I also saw Once on this Island and I thought that one would win Direction for sure but I guess I was wrong
1:22:36 I read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it’s a weird read, but I haven’t seen it live so maybe it’s directed brilliantly, who knows? Who else thinks its a weird read?
1:23:56 He’s getting the Tony audience to sing his boyfriend "Happy Birthday" instead of giving a speech and that is both adorably sweet and such a power move. Also a rare occasion of Happy Birthday being sung on key
1:25:10 They’re having DEH perform? You cut out people who actually were awarded tonight for people who already were featured on the Tony’s last year? And that song is a weird choice for a In Memoriam considering that show doesn’t really…respect the deceased. Weird
1:28:17 Give the tech more time in the limelight! You cut out Chita and Webber’s speeches for a weird tribute and you have weird stunts with tech like the magic thing yet cut out all their stage time. I know this is standard Tony procedure but it is something I will comment on every year until it changes
1:29:20 That move for “work hard for the money mom” line was uncomfortable
1:30:30 They really do sound like the original singer
1:31:53 So that’s how the performers follow the conductor. They have a huge teleprompter-like screen in the back of the audience
1:32:52 This cast seems specifically tailored to gather different subsections of internet geeks and I will not tell you which categories I fall into
1:33:18 I never knew “the Jimmy’s” were a thing when I was in high school
1:34:54 THOSE are the great themes of Harry Potter? Really?
1:36:10 Aww look at little Cinderella
1:36:34 How are they going to build that stage for the Tonys? They built a river inside the theater for it before!
1:37:00 Well it makes sense that they’d only include part of the set, you can’t really recreate an entire building. Yes I’m so glad they included Mama Will Provide. That song is like the definition of a Tony performance song. Why did they include the Daniel bit, that was so awkward and broke up the flow
1:40:40 If anyone would be chill with the goat it’s Nathan Lane. Yup, there a live goat at the Tony Awards
1:41:21 Don’t joke about that
1:41:41 Are you going to cut out every technical award
1:42:32 Too relatable
1:43:16 Is this that song from Chorus Line in real life
1:44:10 English Major life
1:46:03 The angel from Angels in America is so Extra TM
1:46:54 That Tony Kushner line was forced
1:47:18 Awkward segway but REMEMBER TO VOTE
1:47:38 That Judy Garland line ties in perfectly with the Happy Birthday to the gay couple
1:48:04 That reaction to the word “money” is me. And also is a gif right?
Am I so much of a Tony nerd that I both knew and was shocked that the accountants weren’t the normal ones from Ernst and Young but instead were from Grant Thorton. Why do I remember what company normally tallies the Tony votes? Why did they change companies? Why do I care so much? But seriously what happened
1:49:00 That phrase just sounded so odd, just the way it was said “my television Daddy-O Tony Shalhoub”
1:53:15 I don’t have the accent and I’m about as white as white can be, but I really want to perform this song somewhere at some point. I have family in this area even though I don’t look like I would but and I just connect to it. The melody is gorgeous and the chorus reminds me of the lullabies of when I was very little.
1:54:15 Every time the young photos come up it puts a small smile on my face
1:54:37 Good on them for putting their money where their mouth is. They actually helped fund arts programs in places where they were cut
1:55:05 I wonder what the rest of the scenic guy’s speech for Spongebob was because this tiny clip seemed so passionate (and just has such an interesting aesthetic). Gosh darn it Tonys stop pretending the only backstage people that count are the directors and producers, you have all these other people who put in so much hard work yet you consistently ignore them. Even orchestrations, choreography and score?? Orchestrations, choreography and score are crucial for musicals to exist as unique entities from plays. You make jokes about people sitting through 5 hour plays but I would gladly sit through a five hour award show if you just included the technical awards.
1:57:10 me trying to open anything ever
1:57:14 Yes! I was so worried they would go with the super old school ones that get constant revivals. I mean, they picked the show that had “1000 pounds of sand, a 100 gallons of water, a goat and 2 chickens into his theater” when you have safer, more conventional bets. Everyone kept sleeping on Once on this Island this Tony season to talk about their feelings about the Spongebob’s and Mean Girl’s of the world but this is such a good show. Maybe this’ll get this show the love it deserves.
1:59:30 what did Robert DeNiro say on the recording the sound cut out. Did the mic cut out did he say something inappropriate, I’ve been avoiding Tony news what happened?
1:59:55 It’s got more than just a big cast, dancing, and a history lesson. You know that applies to, idk like 60% of famous Broadway musicals lol
2:00:06 when someone gives that pregnant of a pause you gotta wonder what the story is there
2:00:27 Truth
2:00:40 “Jersey Boy” that’s such a good one liner, actually, it might sound sarcastic online but that was a funny one liner in context
2:03:00 Is Bruce Springsteen really going to just do spoken word poetry the whole time? Also I don’t know why but this makes me think of Fun Home
2:06:05 Oh he’s going to sing after all. Though that story is about as Americana Fourth of July as anything I’ve ever heard on the Tony Awards ever and that’s saying something
2:07:39: who are these people?
2:08:00 Didn’t Kristin Chenowitz and Alan Cumming do this exact same shtick when they hosted, what 2 years ago? And there’s was much bigger I mean really go big like that Glinda the Good dress or go home.
2:08:23 Was there really no punch line? Also aww baby Kelli O’Hara is precious
2:09:07 The actor’s name sounds like his character’s name and I enjoy that
2:09:39 Well these actors are very different from each other
2:11:28 I am a sucker for genuine sincerity and that combined with some of the earlier moments like the Parkland moment brought me close to tears
2:12:45 Look at this award shows actual diversity, and not just using one show for diversity and nominating a bunch of actors you have 3 out of 6 female leads be people of color and none of them are a “token” and they all support each other. Hailey Kilgore is so young and such a good actress and I wanted her to win so much but she seemed so excited for the person who did win and they all seem happy at the result you don’t have any of that polite loser face they are all genuinely supportive and this makes me happy. I’m happy, look at those smiles I’m smiling, I love it when they show women supporting each other.
12:14:06 “my stupid little heart with so much joy” is me watching these people tonight.
12:14:27 Still can’t identify these people
12:15:00 Josh Groban’s reaction to Bernadette Peter’s name is me. Honestly Josh Groban is killing the potential gif game tonight
I’m sorry I just can’t take this description of them as “empowering stories” seriously when half of your nominations are Spongebob and Mean Girls
2:16:10 Tonight the Band’s Visit really swept. Honestly some seasons shows don’t win any awards that deserved it and other seasons shows that (while still deserving) probably wouldn’t have won win and it’s all kind of arbitrary, but I’m glad out of this batch it won, it was really the only show out of the four that would have gotten the Tony Award ticket sales boost and it got it.
2:17:35 “Music gives people hope and makes borders disappear”
2:19:08 yes another Josh Groan duet!
2:19:25 I love Miss Peters too
2:20:44 This number made me smile, this whole night made me smile. I was worried I would get frustrated by the night with Spongebob and Frozen and Mean Girls and all the potential for it to be a cynical snark fest or a capitalist money grabber spectacular. There are about 10 billion ways I saw myself not liking this year’s Tony Awards before it started and not only am I relieved that I was wrong about the mood of the night but I am elated. I love me some deadpan humor and some snark but you rarely see one of these nights just wholly be genuine and not tongue and cheek and it was such a breath of fresh air. Even the hokey bits like the stupid magic jokes and banter or weaker songs like that Mean Girls number, because everything was in such a kindhearted atmosphere, didn’t feel as bad as they otherwise would have.

Giftening 2020: Obligatory Vote for These Post (spoiler version)
Want the non-spoilery version? Seriously, though, super spoilery for main plot points for a lot of these. Skip the ones you don’t want to know about.
Ones with * are my nominations, so you know where my biases lie. :P Ones in bold are my top pick for the categories. I did not include things that don’t need the boost (like Utena).
ANIME
Aggretsuko - A tv show about an unassuming shy red panda woman who works in an office building and deals with the stress of it by going to karaoke and screaming out death metal. The show largely deals with her making friends with two women who she admires and a dude who likes her. The dude who likes her is actually a geniunely interesting storyline because at the end of the first season (which I’ve not seen beyond), he basically admits that he’s built this image of her in his head that isn’t real and he wants to know the real her. (Which, fuck yeah.)
Fushigi Yuugi* - This is a story about two teens who used to be friends fighting over a man which is literally the antithesis of everything Jet is. And yet, Jet watched the whole damn thing. Watch her squirm as she has to deal with that in a liveblog format. You can get a preview of some of that in Doc’s liveblog of it that she did for Jet.
NON-ANIME ANIMATED
Archer* - This is an animated parody of James Bond made for adults. It's offensive as fuck because Archer, the titular character, is a James Bond stand-in and that character can also be offensive as fuck. In fact, one thing to appreciate about this show is that all the characters are shitty, awful people and the show never attempts to excuse their shitty, awful behavior. Plus, it's one of the few shows where half the main characters are women. I am a tiny bit hesitant to rec this for a liveblog due to the offensivness however, as far as I can tell it's not popular on tumblr, and those are generally the ones that cause the most trouble so...
Daria - The story of a misanthropic teenager, her family, and her best friend. The characters are specifically meant to appear to be tropes before slowly being unveiled as three dimensional people. It's got a dry sense of humor that I think Jet will enjoy. I actually didn't know until years after I watched this that it was a spin-off of Beavis and Butthead (which I hated) so don't let that dissuade you.
LIVE ACTION
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - I haven't seen past a certain point because it starts going super deep into exploring depression and that is one of my main triggers for a depressive episode, so I cannot speak of later eps. However, this show starts out funny and silly and evolves into a show exploring how toxic the main character actually is and how unhealthy her coping mechanisms are. It's amazing to see a character type whose actions are usually excused or written off as funny instead be specifically called out as being awful and toxic. (It was a Shit Show is still one of the best songs I've ever heard and Mr. Geeky and I sing it to each other whenever shit hits the fan.)
Hannibal* - If you know of Hannibal, you know the basics premise is that of a man who eats people and is chased by the FBI. The writing in this is some of the best writing I've ever had the pleasure of seeing in a piece of media: it's subtle, smart, and trust its audience to follow along without having their hand held. However, what's really great about the TV show is that it's not afraid to do its own thing. It constantly fucks with your expectations and deconstructs and explores tropes in ways I've never seen before. I haven't seen the ending yet but I highly doubt it's going to end in a place where Silence of the Lambs will happen. The acting is fucking great and even though Anthony Hopkins gives an amazing performance as Hannibal Lector, after seeing Mads Mikkelsen play him there's no going back to Hopkins. In general, if you're looking for something original (which is ironic considering it's based on a book and there are several movies) and smart, I cannot recommend this enough.
Russian Doll* - (Doc, please skip this one, as in 5 years when you're done with Two Storms, this is one of the things I'm considering nominating should I ever win a liveblog again.) I don't really know how to explain this show because it's so fucking weird and is so focused on character and ideas that the plot is both super simple and extremely complicated. It's a story about a woman who starts to relive the same day over and over again except, instead of the typical thing where it starts over when she falls asleep, it's only until she dies (so sometimes she lasts for hours, other times for a couple days). However, almost immediately there are signs that something else is going on, that something outside of the main character's repeating day, something has gone horribly wrong. (Count the fish.) It's a very thoughtful, character-driven show, more about exploring ideas than plot which I, personally, didn't mind at all. Another one I highly recommend overall with much less blood and gore than Hannibal.
Xena - IT'S FUCKING XENA PEOPLE! Okay, but just in case you don't know what the show is about is through cultural osmosis, Xena is a show about a woman who used to be a truly horrible murderous bitch and her continual attempts to make up for the wrongs she has done. The main relationship in the show is between Xena and her (girl)friend, Gabriel, and although the show can be ridiculously silly (time is made up and history doesn’t matter!), it also explores deep, dark issues. One of the best things this show explores is the idea of redemption and forgiveness and that perhaps nothing Xena does will ever get her those things.
LIVESTREAM
Crank* - Jason Statham plays a man who has been given a poison that slowly cuts off his adrenaline, meaning that eventually he'll die. He has to do increasingly ludicrous things to get his adrenaline pumping overtime to make up for it slowly being cut off. It's one of the most fucking bananas thing you'll ever watch but is just a bunch of fucking fun. (CW: Public sexual assault. I only mentioned because its a scene that last for a bit. It's a complicated scene so I won't get into it here but send an ask if you want more details.)
Dale and Tucker vs Evil* - Dale and Tucker, two hillbilly best friends, are going into the woods to fix up their vacation home when they stumble across some college kids. Random circumstances make the college kids think D&T have kidnapped their friend and so they decide they need to attack D&T to get her back. Hijinx ensue. I don't want to say much more because there's a moment that is, to this day, still one of the funniest fucking things I've ever seen, largely because I did not see it coming.
GAMES
Doki Doki Lit Club - This is a game about games. You play a guy in a dating sim. Your first playthrough everything seems normal enough. You join the literature club, meet and talk to girls, and then one of the girls commits suicide. And then game restarts and the girl who committed suicide just... doesn't exist anymore. Your replay the exact same days but it's as though she never existed. Things only get weirder from there. This game does a great job of turning dating sim tropes on their head, as well as exploring games in general. (Content warning for a lot of things. Let me know if you want more details.)
Slime Rancher (stream) - There's really not much to spoil here. You play a woman who is in charge of a ranch full of slimes. There's some messages you'll find, left by the old owner, telling story about their romance. There also some messages between you character and a deliberately gender-ambiguous significant other. And that's about the closest to story you get. Otherwise it's just catching and ranching slimes.
Subnautica* - Fucking fuck I love this game. When this game first starts it appears to be your typical survival game with no real direction other than what you want to explore. But then you find an alien structure. And you realize that your spaceship didn't randomly crash. And you find out that there's no way get off this planet except to explore deeper and deeper and find out what the aliens were doing on this planet. A genuinely beautiful story, told mostly through entries in data pads and voice messages left behind, this ending is one of the most moving ends I've ever experienced and I never ever would have expected to be able to say that about a survival game.
We Happy Few* - In this alternate universe, the Germans invaded Britain during WW2 (although, through exploring the world, you learn that the differences started well before that). When the story starts up, the Germans have left Britain behind and Britain, for unknown reasons, appears to be cut off and/or abandoned by the rest of the world. The majority of the country is constantly hopped up on a drug called Joy, which is specifically used to help them forget something horrible that happened in the past. (I have theories.) The story starts when your character goes off his Joy and gets kicked out of society. There's a general sense of unease about everything and the more you learn the more that unease grows. The art style is great and the world building fascinating.
MISC (there’s nothing spoilery here but it feels weird to not have it)
Interactive Horror Story Livestream - Doc has talked a bit about this in at least one of her Xmas streams and it sounds amazing. Not only is Jet hilarious with horror stuff but knowing Doc’s writing skill, it will be something that we’d never want to miss.
Bean Boozle When Failing a Hard Game* - I am a sadistic bitch, I admit to this, and I love watching people eat Bean Boozle, the jelly bean of horrible flavors. One of my favorite videos content creators has done is playing an incredibly difficult game and then being forced to eat a random one every time they fail.

TØP Weekly Update #42: You Guys All OK? (6/25/17)
Tumblr media
Well, fellas. It’s been a crazy week. The era ends today. That means another long, long, long update. Let’s do it, and then lets all watch Twitter all night to see how things all wrap up.
This Week’s TØPics:
Complete Tour de Columbus Recap (Plus More Cryptic Nonsense)
UPCOMING: Schott Tonight
Teen Choice Nominations
Yours Truly Makes TØP History (Not Really)
Major News and Announcements:
The only major piece of news from this week was that “Stressed Out” hit one billion views on YouTube. I fully take the credit for this achievement, as I asked you guys to turn out to make sure this happened (joking).
The band was also nominated for three Teen’s Choice Awards for Choice Music and Rock Groups and Choice Group Song for “Heathens”.
Oh, and there was this thing called Tour de Columbus. You guys heard of it? Just a little thing we’ll. A lot of a thing. Let’s get into it in the recap section.
Performances, Interviews, and Other Shenanigans:
Tumblr media
Whoo, boy. Obviously, this was a very busy week. However, it wasn’t quite as busy as I expected when writing the Upcoming section last week. For the most part, the shows have all stuck to the basic Emotional Roadshow setlist, with the minor changes of using the 2016 Old Songs Medley and including “Truce” at the beginning of the encore. That said, there were a few points that set each of the shows apart from each other. These include:
Basement
The Basement opened with Tyler running out (with the keytar!) and playing “Fake You Out” for the first time since before Blurryface’s release. I may or may not have wept.
Tyler’s Trees Speech for Basement was notably old school, featuring him pacing the stage, talking more directly to the crowd, and even rambling a bit. In fact, Tyler in general was looser in this show than we’ve seen him in a long time. He was constantly smiling, joked about how the first time he played the venue he lost a Battle of the Bands, thanked a fan who said he was doing great, and stated that people didn’t need to “whoo” to fill awkward pauses. This looseness was likely because, as Tyler explains it, he and Josh just came straight from their homes to play music with their friends. And that’s why this tour is so amazing. (A pretty well-edited together version of the full show can be viewed here.)
To prove their hardcore cred, they kept the cryo and confetti for “Trees”. Yes, they shot the full load into the tiny room, smoking it out the Basement (heh) almost instantly and even knocking out some people in the front row (Tyler stumbling over his “We are…” speech while watching security bridal-carry an unconscious girl away with great concern is a great image). Still, it was hardcore.
Newport
Apparently, somebody in the management (possibly Tyler and Josh themselves) ordered Chipotle for the folks in line at Newport.
Newport featured Tyler pointing out that one of the exits was the exact spot he and Josh met for the first time (tears).
Ohio Governor John Kasich was apparently in the audience at Newport (I believe his daughters are fans).
Don’t have a good video of it with clear audio, but multiple sources have corroborated the story that the crowd chanted “TAXI CAB” multiple times before Tyler played “Trees”. He appears to have said “Sorry”, but sadly, folks, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting “Taxi Cab” this week.
The ending screen got me feeling something.
Express
Express Live had a bit of a kerfuffle in the line. That’s all I’m getting into that drama. Moving on.
New TOPxMM colla-
Oh, screw it, I’m addressing it: the line stuff was nonsense, and was the only part of the week that really bummed me out. It seems pretty clear that Express Live HUGELY underestimated the number of workers and planning that would be necessary to handle the huge crowds and failed to provide adequate care for their patrons. That said, I have a real hard time criticizing only them when looking at what they had to deal with. Perhaps I’m biased because I’ve worked events of this size before, but it is an incredibly difficult job to manage thousands of people, especially when those people act as a mob and do not pay attention to any directions they’re issued. Let’s be clear: There is no excuse for those people who ignoring the venues’ orders not to camp and then were angry that their position in line wasn’t honored. There’s also no excuse for the many people who broke laws by rushing across a busy street, pushing and shoving to get to the front of the line, and leaving buckets of trash everywhere. It’s a shame that so much of the Clique appears to be so entitled that they’re blind to their own shared responsibility for the chaos.
Erm… moving on.
New TOPxMM, complete with more awkward dance moves from Tyler.
Tyler told people to be sure to pick up their trash, since he used to have to clean up the LC.
Tyler stopped the show during “Stressed Out” to help someone out of the pit. He joked that the song had just hit a billion views and they didn’t need to finish it, but, at the crowd’s insistence, he pushed through.
The Trees Speech on this one was lengthy and more structured than any I can think of since MSG last year. Tyler framed it around the idea of belief and how much of a positive impact it has on people, and thanked their families (who put up with having TV programs ruined by drumming and screaming from the basement), Fueled By Ramen (who were in attendance), and the fans for believing in them.
Nationwide
This show might have had the most lit crowd of any Twenty One Pilots arena show, with several dance-offs, a conga line, and a beautiful, peaceful circle during “Trees”.
The Trees Speech was another stellar one, with Tyler thanking the fans for making the journey from around the world to make Tour de Columbus so special.
The band’s activity this week was not limited to their performances. The boys also hopped around a couple of local radio stations and gave good, lengthy interviews for the first time in quite awhile. Here’s some highlights:
Dave and Jimmy Show, 97.9
These guys were pretty casual and open, enjoyed the conversations. I particularly appreciated that they didn’t sugar coat a lot of aspects about the entertainment industry, freely dissing award shows, SNL, and even some artists for their fakeness. I can dig it.
Lots of Grammy underwear talk, which is to be expected. Honestly, it’s Tyler’s fault as much as anyone else, he kept redirecting the convo to the underwear. “How does it feel when they call your name for an actual Grammy?” Tyler: “I mean, I was just thinking about the buttons on my pants.”
Tyler: “Just to clarify, there were more than just us two. There were multiple dudes in their underwear.” Josh: “For sure no females though.” Tyler: “Yeah, just a bunch of bros getting drafty.” (Oh my God.)
They brought the underwear issue to a vote with their friends and family on the van ride over to the Grammys, resulting in an evenly split vote. Tyler claims they called their manager to make the final decision; he said, “Go for it,” making history.
Tyler: “[Walking up to the stage in my underwear] was a long moment in my life.”
Perhaps the most groundbreaking news: Tyler was approached by SAXX underwear to join Kevin Love in promoting their product after he demonstrated it live on national television. Though he turned it down, he still stands by the underwear as his favorite and its compartmentalizing mesh.
They chat a little bit about how the Grammys are the only award shows that actually don’t tell the artists beforehand who has won and seem to confirm that they won’t go to a show they’ve been nominated for but know they won’t win. Tyler: “The people who go and lose just really have nothing else to do that day.”
Interviewer: “So let’s talk about “Heathens”. I think that song did better than the movie.” Tyler tries to stay on script and say that they both loved the movie when they saw it, even making the argument that no one really knows that a movie’s bad until they go home and read the reviews, but there’s just enough backpeddling and trademarked Joseph sarcasm that I’m not sure I buy it.
Their discussion of their appearance on SNL is actually probably my favorite part of the whole interview, since it’s pretty darn upfront about the whole thing. Tyler said that he was honored to be invited on, but as soon as one of the hosts says that he’s actually been to it and observed the disconnect between the audience and artist, Tyler immediately opens up and discusses his quibbles with the show’s format. Specifically, he points to how the opening dress rehearsal has great energy, with all the jokes landing perfectly and the younger crowd of “slops” off the street really being into it. However, by the live filming, the audience has been replaced mostly by more reserved people with connections and the show becomes more stiff. The interviewers muse that it must have something to do with the greater pressure, but Tyler makes the interesting point that it likely has more to do with doing the same thing in front of the same camera guys, comparing it to when he does multiple shows in a single city and becomes aware that the security guards see right through him when his apparently spontaneous performances and speeches are exactly the same.
Tyler throws Kyle Mooney under the bus again, and also criticizes the entire ending schtick of SNL where they all hug each other as “the most awkward thing I’ve ever done in my life.” Tyler says that it was the first time they had ever met most of the crew, making it especially weird to have to act like they all had worked together to put on a show.
While in the process of burning bridges with the entertainment industry, Tyler and Josh both talk about how they never even met Kimmel and Conan despite playing their shows, calling the whole thing “garbage”. Specifically, Tyler goes in on Conan, revealing that they performed their set on that show to an empty audience and no Conan. They speculate it was either because Jennifer Aniston and her team requested it, or perhaps that Conan just was on vacation.
The interviewers ask the guys if they mind when they’re asked about old content (though it seems to just be a way for them to complain about the Chainsmokers). Tyler says that he doesn’t mind, because they make sure to put meaning into all of their stuff (which I’m taking as a Chainsmokers dig).
Andre on Air, 102.5
This interview really gets into the nitty gritty of Tour de Columbus and the band’s relationship with their hometown.
Andre asks the big question lots of us have been wondering about: what about playing Ohio Stadium, one of the largest venues in the world (at 100,000 capacity, they could fit the crowds of all the Columbus shows in the stadium and not even fill it halfway). Tyler says that still sounds “ridiculous” to them, but he also fully admits that they still expect people not to show up to their shows.
Andre points out the remarkably close connection the boys have to their hometown, between this tour, featuring the city in their Grammys speech, and a million other things, even going so far as to say that Twenty One Pilots put Columbus back on the map and is the thing the city is most well-known for now behind Ohio State football (which, to be honest, I think is accurate). Tyler says that he’s honored by that praise. He says further that he likely wouldn’t have left Columbus if not for his music, stating that before touring took him and Josh all over the world, he’d only been on a plane once. Even now, though, he still prefers the city to anyplace else.
Tyler: “We’ve been all over now, but whenever anyone asks what our favorite place is, it’s Columbus. There’s nothing better. We’re not trying to be sentimental, we really… we like the highways here.”
Josh speaks to the experience of being at home while being famous. He says that there’s a real sense of normalcy so long as they’re hanging out with their families, but going out with their families to do something and having to take a picture with fans has become the new normal. (Tyler jokes that he’s found out that he’s had more cousins than he’s ever known.)
Tyler reveals that Zach was skipping out on a few concerts to play rec league basketball, and that his dad skipped shows to watch him. Perf.
No tattoos planned for these shows.
Tyler states that, while they planned to make minor alterations to every show to make them special, they were never going to be able to have drastically different setlists for each space for logistical reasons. Tyler says the tour’s less about the content of the shows and more about just honoring the city.
Discussing the “HeavyDirtySoul” video, Josh was glad for the flames due to how freezing cold it was (roughly eight degrees). Tyler: “I thought we were going to lose him.”
For what I think is the first time, Tyler talks a bit about recording “Heathens” in a very DIY fashion in European greenrooms. Tyler says that he has demos of a bunch of songs that have the sounds of people in the background banging on the door of the hotel room asking him to keep it down.
When discussing their favorite cover songs, Tyler says that his is probably “My Heart Will Go On”, telling a story of a concert where he found out that Kate Winslet was in the audience and that she sang her heart out, despite the fact that she probably is sick of that song.
Andre suggests that they should recruit Jack Hannah at Columbus Zoo to get a hold of the giraffe whose birth was livestreamed for the last show of TDC to fulfill their greatest career goals. Josh says Tyler should ride the baby since he’s smaller. They joke that they really shouldn’t try to actually use giraffes, as it would represent a peak in their career they could never top, but Tyler points out that if they keep talking about it, they will inevitably get to bring giraffes onstage at their final show.
Tyler says that they’re definitely taking a break, and that he’s looking forward to get away from all the external pressures and getting back to making songs he likes with Josh.
In honor of TDC, The Columbus Dispatch did a front-page spotlight on the band. It’s honestly kind of amusing: since they weren’t able to secure interviews with anyone in the band or their families, their main sources are fans, the owner of the PromoWest venues, Tyler’s high school basketball coach, a guy who worked with Josh at Guitar Center (lol), and Chris Salih. The only new information the article provides is that Chris was the one who actually took the picture of Josh with the wedding crashers that set the Clique on-fire last week. That’s quality journalism.
I would also be totally remiss not to talk about Artopia. The Facebook stream for the event was very well produced, and David McCreary did a pretty good job at keeping things high energy. The stream contained hours of interviews and interactions with the Clique, hundreds of amazing pieces of art, and cameos from Mark. After the stream was over, Tyler and Josh surprised all the folks who stuck around at the free event by coming out to thank the artists and do a meet and greet with everyone. Some of my favorite moments:
David challenging some fan to cartwheeling contests. Not only did the girls own him, they criticized Josh’s form in the backflips.
After David jokingly asked people to ask him questions about the band, he got a bunch of questions (”Latin America tour!” “When’s the new album?”) that he was not able to answer. When asked their favorite song: “We Are Young” by Fun (Mark laughed).
Tyler’s mom showed up and talked trashed him (and oh my god she sounds just like him and has his sarcasm, omg).
All the people from across the country. All of the concert stories. All the dads.
Outside of TDC, which has understandably overwhelmed a lot of other news, Josh also filmed a promo for Columbus’s Roosevelt Coffee, a favorite spot of both band members (they gave their only 2016 performance in Columbus at the shop) that also serves as a charity that fights hunger, disease, and human trafficking. The promo notably makes use of the TØP deep cut “Clear” from Regional at Best; it fits the theme perfectly. One last minor point: here’s Josh doing an unboxing video of his own drum. Hear that’s popular YouTube content.
Upcoming Shows:
Show 5: Schottenstein Center at Value City Arena, (6/25)
Capacity: 18,800
Tumblr media
It’s all led up to this: the last show of the Blurryface era, and the last show for the foreseeable future. Despite being a tad smaller than Nationwide, this is the obvious spot to host the final concert: located on the Ohio State campus, the Schott was the first arena the boys ever headlined and is one of Columbus’s premier venues. I don’t know what to expect from this one. MisterWives are opening, so I think we’d be pretty safe in assuming that we should get a trumpet assist on a song or two. I doubt we’ll be getting too much else, but I do know one thing: that Trees Speech is gonna make me cry. The curtain’s falling on the Blurryface Era, ladies and gents. Hold each other.
BLIND SPECULATION OF THE WEEK:
Each concert so far has had a unique opening. Basement played some audio of Tyler and Josh talking to each other; Newport featured this image of the repeated word “WAIT”. Express featured an extended montage of the band’s history with a Nigel voiceover questioning “how many days” it takes to reach where the band is now. It is entirely possible that some of these things were actually features of the venue and have nothing to do with a Blurryface-style viral marketing campaign.
It’s all come down to this. Depending on what happens between now and then, next week’s update might be the last for a good while. We’ll see. Regardless, as always: Power to the local dreamer.

Loose Threads: Part Two
bit off schedule but hey, life happens. (plus I went to the Harry Potter studios yesterday and it was so so amazingly fantastic)
one / two
masterlist / request / submit
again thank you to all the support (and the anons who wanted part 2!), you are all just so thoughtful and yeah I won’t go on so enjoy :)
As the theatre started to fill up you, along with your fellow actors waited backstage before the film would play. Your role was to say a few words, thank everyone for coming and hope they enjoy the film- easy. Or it should’ve been, only the fact that Michael’s song was playing louder than the other songs made for the film and as you sat there with Caspar going over your lines for the speech you couldn’t concentrate.
“It’s just a song.” You try telling yourself over and over again. Except it’s useless trying as in the back of your mind you can feel his eyes on you even from within the audience, his usual smirk probably etched into his face.
A light breath could be felt from behind you and as you turned there stood your set Mum, Linda. “Just a few quick touch ups yeah?” She motioned you away from the heavy curtains and towards a more lit area, relieved you thanked her. “I know these things dear, after all I’ve had the pleasure of working with you for over a year.” A gentle smile was always worn by her, she was a caring figure for you during these long hours and early starts.
She really pulled you through the breakup and understood how difficult it is to have him here today. “I don’t want to see him again,” You told her as she brushed powder across your face. “it hurts too much.” The words you muttered could barely be heard, it was just for you to actually admit to yourself, that it really hurt your heart to see him here looking fine whilst you broke inside.
“Hey,” She held your shoulders and held sincerity in her brown eyes, “it’s a few hours and hell, you can get drunk at the after party.” You couldn’t help but chuckle and focus on the fact that it was a few hours, “Can you manage three hours?” Hesitantly you nodded in response. “Atta girl, now on you go.” Making final touches she ushered you away after a tight supportive hug and you rejoined Caspar.
He couldn’t help but look relieved to see you, “Oh thank god,” He exhaled, “I thought I was going to have to go out there alone and then see you run on with me for a minute.” Joking as always with you the thought of tripping over your dress crossed your mind.
“Well we couldn’t have that now could we?” Nudging him he lightly chuckled just before the announcement came on for you to walk on stage.
Director, writer, producer, leading cast members. The order you went in and the second you stepped out of the curtains the bright spotlight shone right in your eyes, blinding you entirely forcing you to hold onto Caspar for support as you squinted. “Welcome, we want to thank you for joining us all today for the premiere of this movie that we all worked so hard on.” Gary, the director spoke up and the audience clapped.
“Besides all of our crew behind the scenes I think our cast deserve a round of applause, don’t you?” Our producer announced and everyone clapped, Caspar clapped right in your face making you laugh and as you did you felt a pair of eyes burning into the two of you. The lights were so bright you couldn’t see past the first row and ignored the burning sensation.
We all said a few words about the film and what it meant to us and then there was you, the last one to say something that you had rehearsed relentlessly, even in the ride over. “I just want to say thank you to the family that this film has created, for the past 13 months and more we have been together day in day out and so much has happened,” You paused realising how that could be taken, especially with him in the audience. “everyone supports one another through and through. Thank you to everyone involved and everyone here tonight to witness this incredible film- but I’m biased on that matter so I’ll let you decide for yourselves.” You laughed and following the round of applause you left the stage and headed down to your seats in the front row.
The film began to play and all went quiet, you relaxed in your seat as Caspar muttered things that made you giggle during the first scene you appeared in. Then it played, you were running, crying in the film and his voice sounded over the sequence. A panging returned in your heart as the voice that used to sing you to sleep or join you during dances in the morning on a Sunday.
Your eyes began to glisten at the scene, remembering it as if you shot it yesterday. The two of you just had the final argument, you went in and gave it your all that day and as you see yourself crouching down on the beach next to your cast mates body the tears and passion you cried were real. Nothing about that scene was forced as it hit you, you knew that you and Michael wouldn’t make it to the end of the week, let alone filming.
As the scene came to a close and moved on it ended on his voice, a long drawn out note and silence echoed in the cinema as it moved onto Caspar. A hand was placed on yours and you turned, seeing Caspar through glistening eyes. “Just you wait until the nominations flood through.” He smiled and you reciprocated, causing tears to cascade down your cheeks which he quickly caught, stopping them from ruining your makeup. “I’m guessing this makeup cost as much as this suit so we don’t want it to go to waste.”
Walking out of the cinema was a quick process, as you walked out with my security guards you held my dress allowing me to walk with ease rather than difficulty. Faces blurred together as they patted your arm or touched your shoulder muttering compliments about your performance, the first of many to come throughout your career now, you can just sense it. Once you got to the car you collapsed into the back seat, Henry drove on towards the after party venue but you made a quick stop to get some food.
Getting out of the car in your dress you quickly sent Caspar a text letting him know you’ll be a little bit late- as you were hungry. You and Henry walked into the shop seeing people stop and look but unsure on what to do they continued. Henry politely took the basket on your behalf as you went straight to the sweets aisle and picked up a load of sugary sweets, the sort you weren’t allowed for months during filming and now you could finally splurge.
A light tug on your dress caused you to turn my head away from the sweets and down to a little girl in bunches. Kneeling down in front of her you moved your dress slightly and smiled brightly to her. “Hi sweetheart.” You said sweetly to her as she wore a massive smile, hidden by her hand in her mouth.
“Cassie?” You heard a woman speak with concern as she passed the aisle and then let out a sigh of relief at the sight of the little redheaded girl. She knelt down and hugged Cassie and went to thank you but paused, her eyes went wide. “You’re, you’re Y/n?” She pointed to you and all you could do was nod.
“Guess my reputation exceeds me.” You shook her hand and she wore a smile resembling her daughters. “Little Cassie here was probably curious about my dress,” Moving closer you whispered to Cassie, “it makes me feel like a Princess.” She giggled in response and took her hand out of her mouth.
“Mommy is she a Princess?” She looked in awe between you and her Mum and all she did was nod in response. Turning to face you she held her little arms out wide and you gave her a light hug as her arms tightly wrapped around your neck. “You are a bootiful Princess.” Cassie said funnily and you laughed lightly and thanked her. Quickly you took a photo with Cassie, so she could remember the Princess she once met in a shop getting sweets, thinking how cute it was with her big smile.
We parted ways and you waved to Cassie one last time before heading to the till with Henry who wore a smile on his face. “What you smiling about Henry?” You asked as the items were scanned and the cashier seemed unphased by my attire.
He chuckled to himself as he picked up the bag of food and paid. “You’re really good with kids, I never knew.” He said with some amazement. “It’s rare to find young actresses who still care about everyone, of any age in any location.” You thought about the small interaction, not thinking much of it other than being yourself.
Leaving the shop you dug into some sweets as you climbed back into the car and headed on to the party, feeling in the mood and spirit uplifted. You talked to Henry on the way over, you spoke about his family as you were genuinely interested and as you arrived you thanked him. “Y/n before you go.” Henry spoke up and you leant forward to speak to him. “You are one of the most down to earth celebrities I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. I hope to see you again soon.” A bright smile that didn’t fade on his face was visible even in this low lighting.
“Well thank you Henry for being a friend tonight, I’ll make sure I see you again. Hey maybe we can go out for dinner with your family sometime? Or you can come to mine and I can make something?” You offered with such enthusiasm and he chuckled, agreeing to it.
Climbing out of the car photographers surrounded you as you stashed your sweets in your purse, you heard them calling out about drugs in your bags and laughing you held up the packet of Haribos. “Chill guys, I got hungry.”
Walking inside the venue the music was loud and it was packed, quickly you made your way through and found Caspar sat at the bar chatting to someone who you couldn’t quite make out in the dim lighting. As you approached his eyes went wide and the person who had his back to you turned around. Sighing you saw who it was who walked over to you with an awkward smile. “Hey Y/n, amazing performance.” He tried to make it sound as genuine as he could but the tension was just too much.
“Cut the crap Luke,” You sighed. “as much as I love your song I am going to keep this a professional matter. Where’s Michael?” He pointed to the table where you could see him stood on top of and dancing badly, holding a large bottle of vodka in his hand swaying it about.
Sighing loudly you passed through everyone and made your way over to the table looking right at him as he swayed to his own beat, as always. Part of you wanted to join him, laugh and dance like old times. But the other part of you couldn’t get rid of the arguments, the torment and late nights alone that were over riding the sweetness in his green eyes. “Michael!” You yelled to him as his eyes locked with yours, they were full of joy whilst yours were filled with rage. “You’ve got to get down.” You muttered as he slid off of the table, almost falling into your arms.
“Pretty Princess.” He chuckled as he tried to poke your cheek, something he would do after a night out to ensure you were real.
Batting his hand away you sighed, “I’m no one’s Princess, you need to sober up.” Your eyes met Luke’s and he soon walked over realising how drunk Michael actually was.
“Dude you reek, come on.” He helped hold him up as they sat down at the bar next to Caspar. Even from where you were stood you could see he was troubled, something about him seemed off entirely.
A tap on your shoulder distracted you and turning you were met with a fellow actress and good friend of yours, “Clara, how are you?” The two of you gushed for a while and your back remained faced to the bar.
“and then I just spilt the drink all over him I couldn’t believe-” Clara looked past you and confused you turned to much to her dismay.
The sight before you had caused some commotion from the crowd as you saw Michael yelling in Caspars face. “You scum, you don’t deserve her! No one does, she is the most beautiful, kind hearted, down to fucking earth person I have ever met.” Luke was trying to hold him back and you began to walk over, ashamed. An arm met yours and you saw him briefly but Ashton passed by, shaking his head to you and you remained still.
Caspar was sat there whilst Michael was restrained by his friends and soon left but continued to shout. “Oh and if you do mate I will personally ruin your face!” After they left there was an awkward tension in the air and all eyes were on you, except in a less than positive way.
Mutters were made about Michael, about your breakup and what kind of person he was. Sighing you walked over to Caspar, struggling to control the shakes in your hands. “Scotch please.” You called out.
“You hate Scotch.” Caspar spoke up and as soon as it was passed to you the long sip of the bitterly warm liquid made you want to gag as it burned your throat.
Coughing lightly you placed it down, still half of it to go. “Yeah well it’s that sort of night I guess.” He let out a loud sigh and you placed your hand on his knee, “What happened Caspar?” You asked quietly knowing the sort of crowd that surrounds you.
He stood up and held his hand out to you, “Come with me.” The two of you filed out of the club, “It was dead in there anyway, fancy some pizza?” Nodding the two of you walked along the pavements on the cold night, your shoulders shaking as you wrapped your arms around yourself wishing you opted for a dress with long sleeves.
As you got the pizza the taste warmed you up, only marginally. “Oh I missed Pizza.” You moaned at the taste and how the cheese stringed, laughing at your reaction Caspar just nodded in agreement. “You going to tell me now what happened?” He nodded.
“I was just talking to Luke, he was telling me about the effects of your break up on Michael and how he knew it was all his fault. The guy needs help and they all know it, they thought he could manage tonight but obviously not.” He sighed and I couldn’t help but feel guilty for it.
“It’s my fault isn’t it?” You paused and thought back to all the arguments, how you had your part to play in it too, the things you commented on in retaliation to him. Before Caspar had a chance to respond you found yourself tearing up, and backing away from him as all the sweet moments you and Michael shared played in your mind but slowly tore apart revealing the bad times. “I, I need to speak to him.” You said and allowed it to hang in the air.
Caspar moved toward you, putting the empty papers in the bin and held your hands, snapping you out of the memories. “Do you want me to go with you?” You shook my head and booked an uber.
“I’ll go tomorrow, once he’s sobered up.” You stated and patiently waited for your uber to turn up and Caspar waited with you.
“Any idea what you’ll say?” He questioned and you exhaled heavily, seeing the wisps of your breath float up past you.
Shaking your head you glanced his way, “Guess whatever comes to mind, no rehearsals.” You paused for a second seeing a car come in sight, “If I’m going to talk to him it needs to be genuine, I don’t want to be playing a part anymore.” Climbing in the car you waved to Caspar and relaxed into your seat, contemplating over what does happen next to the Princess.

STRIKE MALFUNCTION
Defenders and Mids dominate the opening round of the Bush. GW1 in the Bush
Tumblr media
Not a striker to be seen with double digits, a MASSIVE 9 defenders had that pleasure along with 6 mids. Some banging potentials for investment are on the cards with Wan Bissaka suuurely at the top of the list (4mil for 12 points, value, value, value). Mane and Pereyra shared equal top scorer this week both with outrageous performances. 34 bonus points between defenders is absolutely insane. If this new age beast mode defender of the EPL doesn’t get you stiffer than Rowan at a Wiggles concert, then I don’t know what will.
The ache of the past couple months has subsided and the EPL/The Bush, is back. With some tasty fixtures on the cards the hypothetical swordplay of dicks between the lads had been at an all-time high. Anticipation for what’s to come with the newbies, what’s to come from the big men and can the reigning champion despite media attention lead his lil boat of fags the ESKITITTTT’s (you bastard if you bless us by reading this) back up his form? We’re back boys.
It’d be rude not to mention Brody’s first decent week since Bush 2. I know what you’re thinking, here comes the biased, self-applauded writing about one of the “admins”, Absolutely not. Brody welcomed himself back to the ‘Pink Socks’ with that goddamn song and the boys from the McIndoe clan summed it up perfectly with “Fuck up” and “Just sick of seeing this shit”. Despite the song, Brody started the season well with a massive 83 points to make the Socks the Bush TOTW. With a comfortable 15 (Mendy) points on the bench, a huge pre-season of meticulous research seems to have done the trick in a clean slate for Brody. If anyone actually read that song – what stuck out to me is ‘WHAT IS PINK SHALL NEVER DIE’, any Game of Thrones fans think that sounds similar? It is, it’s clearly related to the Ironborn motto ‘WHAT IS DEAD MAY NEVER DIE’. These people are led by a man who got his meat sword chopped and his lesbian sister. The whole think reeks Felgate. Next week – Can Logan stop Brody from ‘forcing’ him to read his songs? The ‘I Should be at least a champ’ vs the certified Champ Champ. Both started with a win, place your bets. Logan paying $1.01 to not read this at all in a special.
Now to our dud of the week, everyone’s favourite choking hazard, Blake Hands. The man basically gave a win to debutant James ‘City has legends’ McIndoe in what is an absolute shocking effort. If Ederson didn’t play as well as he did, A MERE 15 POINTS would have been his score. Blake captained De Brunye, which was risky to start with, though NO SALAH? NO SALAH MO PROBLEMS. Liverpool supporter, who gets… SHAQIRI OVER SALAH. I’m lost for words. Nothing went well for TDC this week, but he defended himself with the classic “it’s a marathon not a sprint”, truth. Macca didn’t have a massive week; a win is a win and next week he has his chance to prove himself a contender against fellow newbie Morgan. Trash talk expected, posting a gif of City winning the title expected, will he come up with any proper banter?
Headline fixture of the week has to be one of the fiercest rivalries in the Bush – The Kennedy Brodown. RK v HK, always a tight contest. HKendon took out the win 78-70. The difference this week? Reid’s absolute Judas-bullet to the foot of a decision to have his first sub as Trippier (0) instead of round 1 superman Wan-Bissaka (12). Poor Wan-Bissaka was left out in the cold much like his manager who also suffered the cold shoulder (quite literally) breaking it in real life whilst snowboarding solo. Humorous? Yes, quite funny – also the bone he broke. Nah it is snow joke, get well soon Reidy and the Bush is hoping for a swift recovery.  “Spitting chips” – Reid Kennedy. The Dons found form of old and are hoping to put their DISGUSTIN’ last campaign behind them.
Recently off the chain manager Kirby gave ex housemate (too soon?) Max ‘Emry out’ Haggarty more frustration with his bench than Arsenal gave him with their bench. Losing by what he claims as “35 players not playing and their* bench kills it”. It could be just be the fact that the Cheese and Lacas captained one of the most overrated players who was never going to play a full game let alone score points. Rashford was a myth, fittingly disappearing for his manager in a time of need. That and the fact that a star-studded midfield scored 4 points between 4 could definitely have been a factor in the disappointing start for the Lacas. Who knows, Kirby could get lucky af like he did last season and get 10 wins in a row – that is until he disappeared and didn’t blame his password, just his missus. The real lesson is here gentlemen, always blame your missus.
Another two teams at the top of the ranks this round were former rookies Mitch ‘Wombae’ and Alex ‘Do I make you Horney’ Horne. Both teams respectively scored 80 points which would tickle the dick of any manager. The Wombats midfield was absolutely terrifying for former Romeybears manager Jerome, scoring a fucked 46 points from 3 people (wowser). Horney’s Heroes gave rallied around the strongest captain of the week Mane, 36 points alone. Mitch takes on Rowan next week whilst Alex takes on the newest self-proclaimed hot shot Madde ‘Prostate Tickler’ Bowshire.
“Sneed’s are a joke”, “Cunt, those Sneeds” “It’s a bloody upset” – just a few of the quotes from around the Bush this week leading up to Rowan ‘get back in the womb’ Flanagan. One man had a little something else to say – “It’s a new season bruv im finishing top 3, this ain’t an upset it’s the new normal”. Madde took out a huge start to his fourth Bush season with a DOMINANT display over Rowan’s Doumbia’s. His first error was picking 3 Tottenham players, his second was captaining someone versing a punishing Liverpool. Sneeds on the other hand, magic in all aspects in his 76-49 win. 35 points in his defence, you shall not pass. Rowan has already lost his password this preseason, how many losses will it take for him to lose it again?
Honourable mention to our high scorers who didn’t make top 3 this week, Chris Michaels and Papa Geo, both scoring 75+. Unlucky for the Tigs not to get a win, the Bush is a harsh mistress and she needs patience. Papa gave Riley regular Bine enthusiast’ Guest the true reality of this, spanking him by 40 points.
That’s all we’ve got time for about the key moments fellow managers, we hope you’ve enjoyed a read and had a giggle but before we sign off, some info about the Manager of the Month voting change this season…
Here at the Bush Fantasy League we value consistent, non-biased results. Last season there were many amazing Manager of the Month awards though we had massive complaints/feedback about the legitimacy of our nomination process. To honour the wishes of the majority of managers, we’d like to introduce our new system, which evaluates our players in a VIP type like process. Each week you’ll receive a tally, which in turn will total to a monthly score. Top scorer of the week will get 3, second will get 2 and third will get 1 (tied points count). Thank you for your cooperation and as always, stay classy, Bush League.
3 points – Brody with 83 points.
2 points – Alex and Mitch on 80 points.
1 point – Harry on 78 points.

Oscar Recap
Chris' Movie Review Oscar Recap What a night for the Oscars. There was some ups and downs. And then there was a major downer for the Oscars. So let's jump into it. Best Picture Winner: Moonlight My Prediction: La La Land If you haven't heard, Warren Beatty read the wrong envelope. He was given an extra copy of the Lead Actress award and Warren didn't know what to do so he just went with La La Land as the winner. But that would soon turn out not to be the case as Moonlight would take home the Oscar. So I'm pretty biased when it comes to my Best Picture pick of the year. I wanted La La Land to win. Moonlight? Eh. The film really didn't speak to me. I guess I need to watch it again because people obviously liked it. In my blog, I've stated that the main character of Moonlight literally didn't do anything for me. I never felt anything from him or felt bad for him. My issue was that he never let his emotions really come out and, even when he did, it was literally for a second or two. You can read my blog about the movie if you want more information on my thoughts about Moonlight but La La Land should've won in my opinion. And I'll hold a grudge against the this Oscar year for the rest of my life. Best Actor Winner: Casey Affleck (Manchester By The Sea) My Prediction: Denzel Washington (Fences) Again the academy fucked up. Look, Casey did fine but I had the same issue with him as I did with Moonlight, I rarely felt any emotion from Casey. I'm going to get flack for this I don't think staring off into space and ignoring people around you is tough acting. I do it daily with people I don't know. But I'm not ignorant either. I can't imagine that it's easy to be cold to people you used to know. What I look for in acting is for the actor to give me a reason to care. Michelle Williams gave a me reason. Lucas Hedges gave me a reason. Casey? Not really. I understood his situation but what am I supposed to do when he's dead on the inside and out? You may have thought that Denzel was just being Denzel but at least I had an emotion with him. I hated Denzel's character. He was an arrogant asshole who thought he was above the rules. And that was honestly ten times better than Casey's performance. Best Actress Winner: Emma Stone (La La Land) My Prediction: Emma Stone Finally, the Oscars got one right. Well, actually, I wouldn't know. I didn't see any of the other nominee's movies. Which is really unfair from my viewpoint. I don't think all of them were available to me or to America either. So take what you will from this category. Best Supporting Actor Winner: Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) My Prediction: Lucas Hedges (Manchester By The Sea) Was Mahershala on screen that long? Like, he was there and then gone in an instant. Come on Oscars. Look, Mahershala was memorable but that's because the main character wasn't. Lucas was a great contrast for Casey Affleck. They needed Lucas to help give the film some humor Casey's downer mood. My friend and I were watching and both agreed that Mahershala was third at best. He should've lost to Lucas or even Michael Shannon. Both of those two left an impact on a movie that had strong main characters. Mahershala, eh. I guess if you want to make the argument that he didn't judge the main character, that's fine. But the life that Mahershala was living, he really couldn't judge a person all that much anyways. Best Supporting Actress Winner: Viola Davis (Fences) My Prediction: Viola Davis Between Viola, Michelle, and Naomie, I felt like any of those three could've won. But I'm glad Viola did. She was strong, ensuring, and great on screen. She held her ground against Denzel and she nailed her role. Point goes to the Oscars. Best Director Winner: Damien Chazelle (La La Land) My Prediction: Damien Chazelle I think everyone had a legitimate chance to win in the category. But Damien was my pick and I'm glad he got it. La La Land had it all and he brought it together and made it beautiful. Best Animated Film Winner: Zootopia My Prediction: Zootopia Did Zooptopia have competition? I know that one of my friends said that he wanted Kubo to win and I can see his point. The art was different and very well done. But the story for Kubo was okay at best. There was some unanswered questions and, I'll be honest, it just wasn't very memorable for me. Now if Your Name was nominated, then Zooptopia would've had a real foe but the Oscars just don't like anime movies....unless it's from Ghilbli. Best Original Screenplay Winner: Manchester By The Sea My Prediction: La La Land I'm actually happy for Manchester. I was leaning towards picking Manchester but I thought that La La Land was going to win just because. But the Oscars were very diverse this year with their picks. So good for them. Best Original Song Winner: City Of Stars (La La Land) My Prediction: Audition (La La Land) Well, I think Audition is the better choice between the two, but it's whatever. The Oscars didn't even acknowledge Sing Street. But you know what they did acknowledge though? They put that damn Can't Stop This Feeling (Trolls) song on the list. Just.... Just fucking stupid. Best Original Score Winner: La La Land My Prediction: La La Land What was seriously going to beat La La Land in this category? There just wasn't another score that stood that was nominated. Now, with that being said, can we talk about Justin Hurwitz? Justin is only 32 years old and he's written music for Guy And Madeline On A Park Bench (still need to watch), Whiplash, and now La La Land. This guy has a long career in the movie industry. He has written some wonderful music and he knows how to set the mood just right. Justin and Damien should work together as much as they can. They work magic on-screen and it would be exciting to see if they could pull it off again. Best Cinematography Winner: La La Land My Prediction: La La Land It was either La La Land or Arrival and I would've been good with either. Arrival is slow in pace but it has great atmosphere and beautiful shots. The film feels huge and mysterious all throughout. And it really deserved it's nomination. Best Visual Effects (The last category I picked) Winner: The Jungle Book My Prediction: Rogue One Looking back on it, I forgot how good The Jungle Book looked. The movie looks tremendous and I think it's all CGI. Rogue One looks phenomenal as well. Actually, all of the nominees look great but I'm glad The Jungle Book took home the prize. I really didn't see that one coming. And that's it from me. The Oscars pissed me off and then it satisfied me...and then it really pissed me off again. I went 6-6 on my picks. A good .500 score. Which isn't bad considering that each category brings multiple nominations. Jimmy Kimmel was pretty good as a host too. I'm not a big fan of his late night show but he did a good job roasting and he kept the flow of the show going. I was pleased with the show he put on. As usual, thanks for reading!
