But all your worries vanished the day he returned and sarcastically ordered hendery to show his donkey self out of his house to never come back again.

"Do you want her to eat or not!" Jaemin frantically nodded at him before running off to the main office.

Heating up the pasta, jaehyun made his way to your shared bedroom in black neos. 

"Baby open up it's me!" He knocked at the door and hearing his voice,you immediately opened it. 

"You are here!" You exclaimed, feeling beads of moisture in the corner of your eyes.

"Aww. Now is not the time to cry." He cooed, entering the room with the tray. Placing it on the coffee table, he turned around and hugged you just the way he missed you.

"I'm sorry for being occupied and only coming back at night. But I'm here for a few days so let's get you all happy like a seal!" He laughed, ruffling your hair.

"I-i yelled at jaemin for no reason." You confessed not being aware that he was already filled in by the younger boy. 

"You wanna apologize?" You nodded as he squished your cheeks in his hands and leaned in to kiss your pouty lips. 

"Later on! Now's the time for evening lunch and getting this food in your tummy without it backfiring!" 

You laughed at how smoothly he eased your worries. After eating properly, you apologised to jaemin which he accepted but not before crying like a little boy he was!

"Yangyang what the heck are you doing near y/n. I told you to keep your meaningless books away from her!" Kun felt like his blood pressure would shot up anytime soon.

"What are you talking about?"

"Oh really? What's the book that you are reading to her?"

Kun's hands found refuge in his hair as he groaned at the boy. Now he needed to read all the books that could possibly reverse yangyang's teachings.

Broken Horns and Broken Hearts Chapter 9

“Tommy!”

“The fuck you want?!”

The drowsy teen rubbed his eyes as someone dragged him out of his rickety bed, into the ravine proper. He wasn’t wearing pyjamas, since he ran away with only the clothes on his back and an inventory full of junk, so he just slept in the same muddy clothes.

“Tommy, we have to prepare!”

“Prepare for wha- Oh. The festival. It’s like, the middle of the night though!”

Wilbur grinned at him, but the manic smile died when he didn’t smile back.

“Will-”

The Ex-President grabbed his shoulders in an iron grip.

“What, is the famous TommyInnit not gonna fight on our side tomorrow?”

He tried to pull away, but Wilbur didn’t let go.

“No, I know what it is.

“You’re scared.”

Tommy shook his head.

“No, Will-”

“TommyInnit you’re scared! I can see it in your eyes, hear it in your voice- you’re terrified! And you’re terrified of people seeing through you, to the coward you are!”

“Wilbur come on, I thought we talked about this-”

His voice trembled, and he let out a shaky breath.

Wilbur leaned down so that his face was level with Tommy’s, and the teen had to stare right into his maniacal expression.

“Why not be the bad guys Tommy? Let’s blow this shit to smithereens!”

“Wilbur, this isn’t the way-”

He’d tried, over and over again, to dissuade his brother, pull him back from the cliff from which he was poised to jump. It never worked.

The arsonist just turned away from him with a wild laugh.

“Coward.”

Techno just watched, pretending he couldn’t see the tears that ran down his little brother’s face as he prepared for war.

When he came back to himself, Tubbo couldn’t help but scream.

What have I done?!

Blood dripped down the handle of his axe, and he dropped it with a small cry. Fundy knelt in front of him, a large gash across his chest spraying blood. The fox looked up at him, terrified, breath hitching and half of his face bruising rapidly.

“F-Fundy, Oh god-”

His friend’s expression warred between fear and hatred as Tubbo stumbled back. Caught between trying to help Fundy or run away, the teen took another step back, slamming into someone behind him.

“Tubbo, what- Fundy!”

Niki pushed past him to tend to the shapeshifter. She stared fearfully at him, eyes darting between the blood on his hands and his horns, glinting in the moonlight. Tubbo tried to plead with them both.

God, what happened?!

“Niki, please-”

“You- I don’t- Tubbo, how could you?!”

Niki’s eyes filled with tears as she put herself protectively between him and Fundy.

Tubbo just stared, his own eyes stinging.

“I- I’m s-sorry…”

He whispered, throat hoarse.

What’s happening to me?!

With no options left, Tubbo turned and sprinted away, bloodstained shirt flapping behind him and tears whipped away by the wind.

Tubbo crashed through the undergrowth as he ran, tree trunks whizzing past him, dark shadows that loomed above his head like disapproving gods. Often, he stumbled, grazing his palms on the coarse dirt, but still the teen threw himself forward, sobs tearing themselves from his throat. The bloodied bandages he’d wrapped around the base of his horns were coming loose, and the end of one briefly touched his face before he brushed it away.

A bramble ripped through his thin dress shirt, scoring a gash across his arm. Another caught on one of his horns, leaving a thin scratch along the dark surface. The teen pushed through the thorns, not noticing the prickly vine curled around his ankle until it yanked him backward. Pain shot up his leg, and Tubbo faceplanted into the dewy grass with a raw sob. He curled up where he lay, ignoring the throbbing of his newly-sprained ankle, tears pooling on the earth beneath him.

“Schlatt?!”

Tubbo flinched at the sound of his best friend’s voice. He shifted, covering his face with his hands, but froze when he heard the sound of steel on leather.

“Don’t fuckin’ move! What the fuck are you doing here?!”

The teen bit his lip hard, knowing what was about to happen and beginning to tremble. Tommy was going to kill him, thinking he was Schlatt, and even after he saw his face he’d know he deserved it… What happened next was unexpected, though.

“Y-You’re hurt…?” His voice was strangely soft.

Tommy’s sword stayed leveled at his head, but the teen took a step closer, brow furrowing.

“Wait…”

Tubbo stopped breathing for a second.

So did Tommy.

“You’re not Schlatt!”

Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck- Every nerve in Tubbo’s body told him to run, cry, punch Tommy in the face and pretend this had never happened-

Too late.

Plus, he was tired of hiding.

He raised his tear-stained face from the ground, and sat up.

“T-Tommy…”

“TUBBO!”

To his surprise, instead of running him through like a kebab, Tommy dropped his sword and seized Tubbo in a tight hug, grinning like crazy. Then Tubbo saw the inevitable falling of that joyous smile as his friend remembered why he’d thought it was Schlatt in the first place. He began to explain, but Tommy cut him off.

“Tommy, I-”

“-We gotta get you inside, Big T! It’s fuckin’ freezing out here!”

The teen picked up his sword and sliced through the brambles wound around his ankle, before hoisting Tubbo’s uninjured arm around his shoulders to take the weight off of the sprain. It only took a minute to get to the small hillside where the entrance was concealed, but now they faced the challenge of getting Tubbo down the narrow, winding stairs to the ravine. Luckily, Techno was on guard, and he didn’t ask questions, just unceremoniously slinging the teen over his shoulder and carrying him down in silence.

Tommy whispered something to the piglin before grabbing bandages and binding Tubbo’s ankle, neither of them speaking the whole time. He almost died from the tension, but finally it was done, and Tommy flopped down on the stone floor next to his friend.

“So…”

He said eventually.

“What’s with the fuckin’ Schlatt cosplay then?”

Tubbo couldn’t help himself.

He burst out laughing, and after a moment Tommy joined him.

“Schlatt… c-cosplay?!”

He giggled, and Tommy elbowed him hard.

“Sh-Shut... up!”

Suddenly, they both sobered, meeting each other’s eyes. Tubbo was the first to look away.

“You don’t have to-”

Tommy started to reassure him, but Tubbo cut him off with a gesture. He looked down at his hands in his lap, fiddling with the torn fabric of his shirt.

“I… Schlatt, he…

“Schlatt’s my dad. He’s- I have his horns.”

A minute passed in silence, before Tommy enfolded his friend in a side hug. The teen froze in surprise.

“But… don’t you hate me?”

“What- What are you on about? Why would I hate you?”

“You don’t think I’m on his side?”

“Are you?”

Tommy smirked.

“No! I mean…”

He bit his lip, avoiding eye contact.

“I don’t know.”

He whispered.

His friend cocked his head to the side, confused.

“What is that supposed to mean?”

Tubbo didn’t answer for a moment, trying to think of what to say. In the end, he just blurted it out without thinking.

“I- I keep being horrible to people and I don’t remember it and I feel like I’m copying Schlatt and I imprisoned Niki and I hurt Fundy, I- I- I stabbed him, and there was so much blood but I don’t even remember how I got there but he- he could b-be d-dead and and I- I-”

His words broke down into sobs and tears burst forth anew. Tommy didn’t let go of him, just stared up at the high ceiling of the ravine. Eventually, he spoke.

“I mean, he was a bit of an arsehole anyway. I could say I’m upset, but that would be lying.”

Shocked for the second time at Tommy’s reaction, Tubbo just stared open-mouthed at his friend.

“You-”

“Tubso, you really think I’m gonna stop being friends with you just because you fuckin’ stabbed someone?”

“Uh, yes?”

“Then you’re a fuckin’ dumbass, clearly.”

“hEy-”

Tommy burst out laughing at the voice crack, and said cackling was contagious. Once again, they both dissolved into hysteria, the laughter echoing off of the stone walls.

“D’you wanna stay here tonight?” Tommy asked, with a chuckle that turned into jaw-cracking yawn.

“Wilbur said we were supposed to be preparing for tomorrow - well, later today, technically - but I could kill for some shut-eye.”

The teen leant back against a double chest, and Tubbo copied him.

“Well, I’m not exactly sure I could go back anyway… Niki-”

“Hey, it’s cool! So, Techno made some stew the other day and I don’t know about you but I am starving, wanna see if there’s some left?”

Without waiting for an answer, Tommy hooked Tubbo’s arm around his shoulders again, hoisting him up. Tubbo took a moment to consider, then frowned. He actually couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen food other than the cookies he sometimes brought to Schlatt with his coffee.

It turned out that there was stew left, and after heating it up by a precarious system of balancing bowls over a campfire and gobbling it down in three seconds flat as teenagers are wont to do, the two dragged blankets and pillows out to the main area. It was warmer there due to the fires, and there was more space than Tommy’s alcove - enough room for them to spread out, anyway. Tubbo was the king of taking up more space that should be physically possible for someone of his size, whereas Tommy tended to almost shrink in his sleep, so most of the time it worked out.

Tubbo was about to doze off when he remembered about Tommy’s frequent nightmares. Ever since Eret’s betrayal he’d wake up drenched in sweat, having re-lived the moment in his sleep, needing to make sure that neither of them were dead. He shivered at the thought of Tommy down in this dark ravine all alone, with both of his brothers off somewhere else. For all the teen’s bluster, Tubbo knew he feared being alone more than anything, and it worried him - but he seemed fine, right?

Right.

Borderlands Foam Wig Tutorial (Tyreen)

I was chatting with the lovely @void-noises-exe​ and it eventually circled around to offering to make a wig tutorial because you don’t see too terribly many, just thought I’d throw mine out ( especially because It was next to impossible to find good references of a foam version of Ty’s hair.) So this will be for foam wigs in general but Tyreen’s hair specifically (with a few pics of my Fiona wig from tales as well because they better accentuate my points) I didn’t plan on making this so I am missing a few pictures that might be helpful but here we go. This will not be short.

Supplies: 

-Craft foam (ideally, in small and XL sheets, but you can make do with whatever size you have available) 

- Spray paint as close to the BASE color of the wig you need (for Ty I used white, for Fiona a medium brown) ideally in a matte. 

- a FUCKLOAD of paints (i use cheap acrylics from the craft store ) in Black, and then several shades of the colors in the hair. (For Fiona i used i think four browns? Tyreens shaved sides have three browns, and the top had an additional yellow-brown i mixed) try to vary them in darkness levels to add depth.

- multiple paint brushes. I like to use around four or five of varying sizes and hardness levels.

- plenty Hot glue, and a hot glue gun (note: you COULD use other typres of adhesive, I like hot glue because its got great hold on foam, it sets FAST and worst case scenario I can take a hair dryer to it and melt it again if I need something to be undone.)

- scissors

- duct tape

-plastic wrap

-sharpie

-wig head

-Plenty of reference images

(optional supplies include a rotary cutter and or exacto-knife [trust me, itll make your life so much easier] ,  and patience. )

SO to start

1) Put your hair in a wig cap or however you plan on wearing it under your wig. Wrap your whole hair bit of your head in plastic wrap. Make sure you get over your ears and the baby hairs on your neck if you want to keep them. 

2) Wrap all the plastic covered bits in duct tape. This is easier for a friend to do on you, but not impossible to do alone, just make sure to get it all. It should be snug. Make sure you get as far down the back of your neck and down your sideburn area as you can. (Most characters have a bit of fringe hanging down in the back so its not the BIGGEST concern for them, but Ty’s got nada so you’re gonna want some good coverage for your hair line.) 

3) Take your sharpie and draw an outline of where your ear is, and along the hairline you’d like your wig to have. For short haired characters you dont want to cut too far behind the ear or your hair will peek out, so I like to underestimate how big my ear is and adjust as needed later. Dont make your wig hairline too high either, particularly if you’re making a wig for a character who has no fringe in the front. 

4) Take that bad boy off and cut along your outlines. Try it on again, adjust lines as needed. rinse and repeat. 

5) once you reach a semi-accurate mold of your head, you’re gonna wanna take it off and cut AT LEAST 4 (front, back, and both sides (I like to do 8, it will lay flatter) sections,coming to a point at the crown of your head. It should come out looking something like this. NOTE : they’re all still connected in the middle. If you’re doing 8, cut each of these 4 in half. )

6) Lay out your foam beneath this. If you dont have a piece of foam big enough to trace this bad boy onto, what I do is literally just break out the hot glue gun a bit early, glue a couple pieces together along the edges, until i get a nice big connected surface. Trace this guy on there as accurately as you can, cut it out, and then glue all your sides together. Now you should have a foam version of your duct tape hat. 

(Dont worry if the sides wont stay down, if you’re doing a character like Ty where thats an issue, we’ll get to that part later. ) 

7) (Optional but VERY helpful) Grab your wig head, and your duct tape head. Tape the duct tape back together and put something in it to make it hold shape, I use poly-fil. Tape the head-form to the wig head, and put your little foam cap on top of that. 

8)  Time to get creative. You’re gonna want to start from the bottom layers first. For Tyreen that’s the long fringe and her undercut. The strategy I decided on was to take a few large rectangular strips of foam, and lay them out everywhere I wanted the undercut to be and cut along the edges to match the hairline. I don’t have a picture of this exact point in the process but I have one from the beginning of the next step. Really the only thing to note at this point is obviously, your head is round and rectangles are not, for the curves where it sticks up along the edges, cut down where it sticks up in a little triangle and hot glue the ends together (you can sort of see this at the top left in the picture below). Dont worry about seams at this point, we’ll hide them later. 

9) This was not the case for Fiona who has very flat hair ( especially because of her hat) but Tyreen has a lot of volume especially towards the front of her head. For hair pieces that need volume, such as the ones that are glued down here, cut two of the exact same foam piece (i like to do them in little waves like the side, but also just a little arch is good for volume without flips such as the front piece) and glue the matching edges together. Make sure the hair triangle is facing the way youd like it to! Then Flatten out the top as much as you can, the bottom will keep the volume and the top ill be able to be covered by “2D” hair pieces. 

(NOTE: Honestly, it’s REALLY difficult to end up with an exact copy of cannon, and I ALLLLWAYS get carried away with the spikes. In the end, go by your reference images, but also follow your heart. Cosplay is half about having fun creating. )

10) Once youve started gluing, make sure to keep in mind where your part is (if you have one). For Fiona i didn’t trust myself so I glued in the hair at the part BEFORE anything, and left them ready to be glued down while I worked my way up to them. 

NOTE: All the hair at the parts of BOTH wigs is a single piece of foam.You want a nice wide base whenever possible to cover up the seams of all of the other edges of the hair. For your part, Carefully glue along the very end of your strip of foam and stick it down. It will be the last piece to be glueddown on top of everything else to make it look nice and clean. 

11) Slowly start working your way around the head, gluing down first anything that will need to be covered (3D pieces and bottom pieces) before getting towards the top where youll need to be more strategic about what is going down and what can cover your edges. I’d definitely recommend mixing 2D and 3D pieces if that’s something you want to experiment with, otherwise, such as in the pic below, it is possible to get volume from a 2D piece, simply by gluing it in a way where it wont lie flat against the head. 

12) in the picture above you can also catch a glimpse of Ty’s cow lick. Those are done exactly the same as our 3D pieces from before, only you trace the edges of the open end, and should end up with a triangular third side to be glued in, then just glue along the edges just like the hair part. 

13) Dont feel you have to overdo how many pieces the hair has, remember you may also paint in pieces and designs when it comes to the line-art! 

14) Once you’ve added everything from the bottom that you’d like to, go ahead and glue down your hair-part. 

15) So, obviously, I wasn’t a big fan of Tyreen’s undercut just being flat foam across half my head. So I took an exacto to it for what felt like years. REALLY over-do it on the edges, it’ll get rid of that harsh foam line and give it a little more of a natural blend. Also pay special attention to all of your seams in the foam. The more distressing there is there, the less youll be able to spot lines later. 

16) So once you have the overall structure of your wig and you’re thinking you might be happy with this, its spray paint time. (I’d recommend disposable gloves for this, you’re gonna need to maneuver it every which way to get the pain in every cranny and that paint does NOT like to come off easy.)  Theres really not much advice I can offer on it, just be patient, and do a couple layers, spray it from every angle and let it dry completely before moving on to the next step unless youre as impatient as I am and dont mind ruining a few paintbrushes. 

17) So, like the Fiona pic a few back or this one here, you should have a fairly flat evenly painted foam sculpture. Now is around the time you might start seeing all the inaccuracies in what you’ve made. You gotta push past that it’ll look great I promise. Time to get really creative. 

18) for Ty I started by painting the buzzed bits in a base brown, and started in on the line art and her roots while i waited for it to dry before going in with two more colors of brown for depth. 

19) For her roots I ended up using three colors. Black at the very bottom (which blends into the line art) a dark brown that matches more or less the buzz, and then after the fact, a custom yellowed-brown to blend better into the white and give us a little more texture. For this and the rest of the cel-shading in the hair, dab your brush before painting and try to mostly stick to light strokes in one direction (OR: if you have one, a particularly hard bristled paint brush does wonders for this) you don’t want the ends of your strokes to be too defined. 

20) Outline the edges of the hair and all prominent pieces, particularly the hot-glue seams, itll make them less noticable. (dont forget the little animation squiggles for Ty’s sides) and beyond that-- honestly, black out to your hearts content. These pics are from when I thought I’d finished. I really felt I’d over detailed. The next day I looked at a picture and realized there is always WAY more texture and outlining than I feel like I see. Honestly, you cant really over-do it, especially with fine solid black lines. 

21) The next day I came back at it with the yellowed-brown and LOTS more solid black lines. (Currently in the process of taming down where I got too excessive with the spikes on the side) 

22) Once it’s all dried, time to try on. Here’s where we address if you have a short haired character, and the edges of your wig just wont stay down -- invest in a little theatrical grade spirit gum. It’s not too terribly expensive, and unfortunately, I tried the cheaper halloween makeup kind, and it just wont hold how you need it too (and please for my sake, also make sure you get spirit gum remover) I took some hair gel (you could also use elmers glue) just to glue up as much of my hair as I could on the sides and the back of my neck to keep them from the spirit gum, and dabbed it along all of the prominent edges of the wig (namely, side and back) wait for it to get a little tacky and stick that MF-er down good. 

Aaaaand Voila??? 

Let me know if I missed any steps? Its fairly simple, once you get going -- just time consuming.

it was several months ago, you had found you had found the love of your life after he had rescued you from a vampire bleeder den... vamps had been draining you dry for weeks... 

but shortly after they brought you back HE was the only person who matter to you... he became your everything... now it was time for you to become an official hunter protected from every single part of the supernatural... 

today you were gonna get your Anti-Possession Tattoo...

Dean the love of your life was now taking you to a small tattoo parlour in Kansas near where they grew up... but something was awfully not right at all... for the last little bit before the tattoo parlour you felt as though something or someone was following the impala... 

though you dismissed those feelings as your love now had stopped the car... you looked around and made eye contact with the man who was at your side of the car opening your door... 

Dean: “you ready to have full protection from everything supernatural...”

YN: “im ready to get what stops demons from being able to possess... but how bad is it gonna hurt?”

Dean: “well given the fact that as a hunter you should have a high high pain tolerance... those shoulder resets, the self patching, the feeling you get when you sew yourself up and throw on some whiskey as a antiseptic is how you build that pain tolerance... sure it hurts at first but in our line of work we dont have time to do normal medical procedures... we learn alot from google and it also helps that we have friends of our fathers who are willing to help if we need... now lets go inside and get your tattoo...”

you take his hand as both of you walk inside the parlor... you let dean do most of the talking and then charging it to one of the many cards you had in your wallet... you still had a normal job, you ran your own mechanic shop... 

Dean enjoyed that idea cause he was mainly your main mechanic... you were the only person who Dean would be able to work with the amount of orders and people that came in... 

Dean: “so after this are we gonna go into the shop or gonna go back and see everyone...”

YN: “i do have paper work still to do and there are still 8 cars on the lot that still need fixing...  and we rely on the income its honest and it brings in a living... we have real money on top of all the scams and stuff you guys are running we need honest living... honestly i know its not a huge amount but our garage is the best in this entire side of the usa... we have people coming from everywhere... our garage is gonna make us rich... dont worry we are gonna be fine... now im strong enough to take the pain from this tattoo, and im strong enough to take you and Sam down in sparring... and im strong enough to be a badass huntress...”

Dean: “lets get her done baby girl.”

walking into the back of the tattoo parlor, you expose your chest... only so far as to have your area that you want the tattoo in exposure. the guy came in and began setting up his equipment.

Tattoo guy: “what will it be today?”

you hand him a drawing of the anti-possession symbol with your own personal touch. he loaded the ink into the machine and then he turned to Dean.

Tattoo guy: “this your girl dude?”

Dean: “yeah why?”

tattoo guy: “cause she has real guts to do a tattoo of this caliber, there is gonna be alot of shading to do... now before i get started there might be a little bit of seering pain at first, but there is also the option of a sweet numbing relief if you want it... you wont even feel it...”

YN: “yes i want the numbing relief.”

the tattoo guy gently put a bit of numbing gel on the area then he waited a few moments and then poked you in the numb area to see if you felt anything... you said no... so he proceeded. 

the process total time was 60 minutes... the outline time was 10 minutes, then came the filling in the parts that needed it that was what took the longest... it was a long time in that chair but Dean was the one massaging your back so you didnt stiffen up...

Tattoo guy: “well your almost done kiddo, the last part is what you added as extra it looks like... are you still wanting that on there... or just leave it...”

You had to think about it but then you took a glance at the man who loved you more than his own car (which is really saying something)... but you had found something out a few days ago... you had gone to a doctor you trusted cause you thought something was wrong with you... 

so you wanted to put the date of finding out the news you had been working so hard at hiding from the love of your life... 

YN: “yes put it in holographic silver below the symbol...”

tattoo guy did as requested... you were one of the many normal things that came out of hunting... you tried to be as normal as possible... but no one in their right mind would ever associate hunting with normality...

once the tattoo was done, the guy gave you a care package with instructions for the first 2 weeks for tattoo care. it was one of the proudest moments of being a hunter...

thats when you and Dean left and he asked you about the bonus addition...

YN: “remember how i was feeling off and i went to see the trusted doc and i went alone... i was late... my period was late... i had to make sure nothing was wrong... Dean its been 2 days since that appointment, i didnt want to keep this from you but its better left for when your sitting down, most likely your gonna pass out or something...”

Dean looked at you confused and wary of what you could possibly want to say... but yet waited till you both got back to the hotel you guys were staying at for a mini vacay away from the bunker... 

you both went into the hotel room but you hadnt been drinking the beer, or anything else alcohol related... but of course you werent gonna say why just yet...

getting into the room Dean sat on the bed and you came to sit beside him on the bed...

Dean: “what is so important that you wanted me to sit down for? and what does that extra tattoo mean?”

you were being careful... but then it just all came out just as Dean was taking a swig of his beer..

YN: “Dean im pregnant...”

this is how it happens, that is how you activate Projectile Beer...

[ Bc yall have foolishly greenlit my Nirvash Headcanon production, here is a general discussion of who I think Nirvash is and I’ll thank you to give me excuses to be more specific. ]

First things first. The Nirvash is the first creature Eureka ever had a conversation with or considered her friend. While Eureka had to learn to speak to people, the ability to communicate with her own kind is one of the few things she was born knowing, so she took to Nirvash right away. The Nirvash is unfortunately one of the main factors that ended up landing her as an emotionally stunted military dog instead of having a normal life where she is nurtured and fully educated by humans. I honestly think if the folks in the lab hadn’t realized her piloting potential, Eureka would have been raised as a completely different person. Since science had never been able to crack the Nirvash typeZERO, she was very valuable to have. They didn’t waste their budget on anything else once they knew that.

I also think the Nirvash had never been called Nirvash by people prior to the discovery of Eureka. Nirvash was exclusively called the typeZERO until Eureka was able to communicate enough to tell humans the name.

Vaguely related, Eureka’s name is also not human given because she is named after an event experienced by the scub coral and it doesn’t make sense to me that humans in 11005 or whatever would think to name her after something that happened in like 2005.  Eureka’s name comes from the very first time Scub Coral entered Earth’s atmosphere, where it crashed into a satellite and was forced to make a home in the Earth’s oceans. Based on what Sakuya says, it’s likely that the whole of the coralian system became aware when it was decided Eureka would be born. Nirvash likely told Eureka her own name if she didn’t already know it herself.

Archetypes are sexless, so as one might expect, Nirvash doesn’t have a particular concept or interest in gender identity. Eureka calls Nirvash “he” in the original series dub and “she” in all future adaptations. I suspect that using “he” might have originally been a mistake by the localization team since Nirvash isn’t voiced until the very end and the Japanese language doesn't really ever require a speaker to designate a gendered pronoun. Whether it was a mistake or on purpose, I tend to explain this by just saying that Eureka copied the words other people used whenever she would personify the Nirvash to them. That would be in line with her character.

Eureka also speaks about Nirvash like a child quite often even though Nirvash is most certainly an older life form than she is. I suspect this is to do with a difference in experience and the higher barriers of understanding for a creature like Nirvash. Put simply, Nirvash is a less developed creature than Eureka is.

In the AU movie archetypes arent the same type of creature as in the main series--they were made or evolved differently.  In the film, the Larval Nirvash is somewhat intelligent. Larval Nirvash pays attention to people and tries to participate in conversations despite being unable speak. 10/10 very tiny and cute and runs around, always doing their best.

I honestly believe that main series Nirvash has a similar temperament and level of intelligence to this AU iteration.  Also, the way Eureka speaks about Nirvash, like a child, in my mind supports the idea that the Nirvash is capable only of very simple thoughts and ideas early on. Nirvash isn't enlightened, per se. At least not at the beginning. Nirvash is a failed attempt at making a person. It makes sense that Nirvash would be less advanced.  If we could hear Nirvash's early conversations with Eureka, I suspect Nirvash's interests and concerns would sound pretty simplistic. I hesitate to compare Nirvash to any stage of human development tbh, mostly because it seems like Nirvash is very intelligent about certain things (like in battle, Nirvash makes very strategic choices), but probably couldn't even match a toddler on other things. Emotional intelligence, for example, is probably something that takes a while for Nirvash to pick up even the tiniest shred of.  Still, Nirvash's wants and feelings do seem to become slightly less simplistic over time. Still simple compared to a person, but the feedback Eureka gives originally is like "nirvash is happy" and by the end it's more like "nirvash feels x complex way because of what they did when x happened and how it turned out". Put simply, Nirvash knows what Nirvash knows, but not much else. Nirvash is maybe like Eureka in that regard. They're in their own weird stage of development where some of their stats are maxed and some of them are like...what are you even doing.  I also pretty strongly headcanon that, like Eureka, Nirvash's understanding of the world and of humans is growing as the series progresses, which I think is fairly substantiated but rarely addressed directly.

As the audience we don't get to see the way Nirvash communicates very often, especially not in any direct easy-to-be-understood-by-people fashion. If you want to learn anything about Nirvash as a viewer you have to speculate based on the few times Nirvash displays some will of her own, or go by the very little information Eureka gives about what Nirvash is thinking. Eureka is somewhat private about her relationship with Nirvash at times, which I find interesting, but that’s a topic for another post.

I pretty strongly headcanon that Nirvash sort of dislikes people, or at the very least, mistrusts the ones she doesn’t know.  I believe this because Nirvash outright refuses to be piloted, even by people with compac drives.  Compac drives are the "keys" humans use to communicate with LFOs, but LFOs cant really communicate back. We know that Nirvash for whatever reason really didnt want to be piloted, but then Nirvash met Eureka and felt willing to activate for her because they could converse and agree on things. No compac drive required for that.  Nirvash will fly for Eureka because they can have a relationship that is a two way street.  It doesn’t require the kind of faith Nirvash would need to let a human do whatever they wanted.

I suspect when Eureka is piloting there is a lot of give and take. They're discussing what they should do.  They compromise on a course of action by combining their understanding.  The trouble any time there is something going on between the Nirvash and Eureka is that it's not a conversation the audience gets to hear. We just have to watch and do our best to interpret

I think that over time Nirvash comes to appreciate and even like some humans and seeks methods of communication with ones she vibes with.  Ultimately the Nirvash does become more able to understand and commune with people because Eureka acts as a cultural bridge between them.   I really like the idea that Nirvash becomes interested in communicating with humans in the limited ways available to her, but only after spending a lot of time with Eureka and taking a shine to Renton. I also know the show gives Nirvash a clear human sounding voice that makes understandable words but I honestly hc that Nirvash sounds more abstract than that in most situation. Like idk, machine noises, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites™ or something like that.  I think if a human was able to hear Nirvash in any passive sort of way, it probably wouldn’t really sound like language. Eureka can always understand Nirvash but if you're Renton or maybe Ao just hanging around and are somehow catching bits and pieces of that consciousness floating in the air it's gonna feel weird and garbled in your brain unless you're able to make that more direct connection with the Nirvash somehow. It's just not natural to humans, it's not their first language.

On the subject of Nirvash getting on with humans, there is eventually a situation where Renton has to pilot the Nirvash himself. This is on the tail end of Eureka being really down and not really explaining why.  Sometimes when she touches the Nirvash she starts to bleed and it becomes clear that The Girls Are Fighting™️. When Eureka sees Renton piloting she is taken aback by the fact that Nirvash would allow somebody other than her to pilot alone. Also, she comments on how that's 'not Nirvash's style'. It's left ambiguous what exactly her meaning is there, but she becomes pretty upset. There are a few ways I've interpreted it, though it's hard to pin down exactly. One possibility is that she’s upset because Renton and Nirvash Did A Violence. Alternatively it could be because the fighting Eureka saw from them was obviously more of Renton's own will than the give and take she prefers with the Nirvash. Another option is that Renton is not imposing his will, but rather bringing out something in Nirvash Eureka doesn't recognize and isn't comfortable with being a stranger to. Eureka is at this point very stressed that the Nirvash wont talk to her. She seems to go from very excited that Renton makes the Nirvash happy to very distressed that Renton is changing her relationship with the Nirvash. Nirvash is probably one of the only relationships Eureka has where she is comfortable and feels she is on the same page nearly all the time, so it's jarring for that to be challenged or changed. 

A lot of the conflict with nirvash is never clarified in stone, but we know for sure that Renton causes Eureka to change and that's a big deal for everybody involved. Nirvash and Eureka don't really know change before this.  In terms of Nirvash’s opinion, we know mostly about the parts Eureka reacts to, but if you think about it we dont really find out why Nirvash likes Renton in the first place or what initially caused Nirvash to becomes less open with Eureka. It's hard to place exactly what the conflict is. Just that it involves Renton and it involves this change. Despite Eureka being the best creature humanty has for communicating with Archetypes there are still certain barriers between them. They are the same creature, but theyre vastly different versions of the same creature with vastly different capabilities and experiences. Nirvash and Eureka will inevitably end up in situations where they don’t see eye to eye if for no other reason than their mental and sensory experience is vastly different from one another. I suspect that Nirvash is at times jealous of Eureka going off and having experiences and relationships with others, in the same way Eureka gets jealous when Nirvash seems to prefer Renton over her.

That all said, I do think Nirvash does have some sense of right and wrong even without Eureka’s guidance, but Eureka shows evidence of chiding or suggesting morality to the Nirvash throughout. Things like compassion and a moral compass seem to be way more pronounced for Nirvash later on in the series, after like 40 episodes of bonding and getting into and out of trouble together.  Again, we can’t know all the details because the audience doesn’t get any unfiltered version of Nirvash’s perspective, but we know for sure that Eureka (and eventually Renton) is very very important to her even when the they are in conflict. In turn, Eureka regularly demonstrates that she trusts Nirvash implicitly and seems to respect Nirvash's judgement in many kinds of situations. The Nirvash is a member of the family through and through. She’s always down to help the cause, and she appreciates the great privilege involved in having a front row seat to Eureka’s experience. The Nivash has had an unprecedented opportunity to become enlightened about other creatures in ways the rest of the Scub Coral could not. In another life Nirvash could have had any number of destinies, possibly even safer ones with less strife and less change. She was never essential to the plan of putting yet another humanoid coralian into the world and could have moved for anybody else and had a completely different life. Maybe in times of conflict Nirvash thinks about that, but if there’s one thing that’s canon as hell I know that Nirvash would never trade away being loved by the Storywriter.

I was going through such a bad depression at that time that I couldn't even put on my shoes. I would sleep for one or two days at a time. I would leave my bed to eat and use the restroom, it was difficult to do simple things like hygiene related tasks. I know it's hard for people to understand. you really cant unless you experience it for yourself, and I wouldnt wish that on anyone.

I worked when work was available, but it was very difficult.

I scraped by and made enough to pay off the debt.

although I needed it I managed to get by without out it. I ended up getting a job with the AV company (the one i was working with full time until all this craziness started happening. see earlier posts) on a freelance basis, and doing music production as a runner. I started making good money and making ends meet. dont get me wrong. I wasn't making enough to get an apartment. but I was making enough money to live a little more comfortably at the hobo compound. Dean the love of your life was now taking you to a small tattoo parlour in Kansas near where they grew up... but something was awfully not right at all... for the last little bit before the tattoo parlour you felt as though something or someone was following the impala... 

though you dismissed those feelings as your love now had stopped the car... you looked around and made eye contact with the man who was at your side of the car opening your door... 

Dean: “you ready to have full protection from everything supernatural...”

YN: “im ready to get what stops demons from being able to possess... but how bad is it gonna hurt?”

Dean: “well given the fact that as a hunter you should have a high high pain tolerance... those shoulder resets, the self patching, the feeling you get when you sew yourself up and throw on some whiskey as a antiseptic is how you build that pain tolerance... sure it hurts at first but in our line of work we dont have time to do normal medical procedures... we learn alot from google and it also helps that we have friends of our fathers who are willing to help if we need... now lets go inside and get your tattoo...”

you take his hand as both of you walk inside the parlor... you let dean do most of the talking and then charging it to one of the many cards you had in your wallet... you still had a normal job, you ran your own mechanic shop... 

Dean enjoyed that idea cause he was mainly your main mechanic... you were the only person who Dean would be able to work with the amount of orders and people that came in... 

Dean: “so after this are we gonna go into the shop or gonna go back and see everyone...”

walking into the back of the tattoo parlor, you expose your chest... only so far as to have your area that you want the tattoo in exposure. the guy came in and began setting up his equipment.

Tattoo guy: “what will it be today?”

you hand him a drawing of the anti-possession symbol with your own personal touch. he loaded the ink into the machine and then he turned to Dean.

Tattoo guy: “this your girl dude?”

Dean: “yeah why?”

tattoo guy: “cause she has real guts to do a tattoo of this caliber, there is gonna be alot of shading to do... now before i get started there might be a little bit of seering pain at first, but there is also the option of a sweet numbing relief if you want it... you wont even feel it...”

YN: “yes i want the numbing relief.”

the tattoo guy gently put a bit of numbing gel on the area then he waited a few moments and then poked you in the numb area to see if you felt anything... you said no... so he proceeded. 

the process total time was 60 minutes... the outline time was 10 minutes, then came the filling in the parts that needed it that was what took the longest... it was a long time in that chair but Dean was the one massaging your back so you didnt stiffen up...

Tattoo guy: “well your almost done kiddo, the last part is what you added as extra it looks like... are you still wanting that on there... or just leave it...”

You had to think about it but then you took a glance at the man who loved you more than his own car (which is really saying something)... but you had found something out a few days ago... you had gone to a doctor you trusted cause you thought something was wrong with you... 

so you wanted to put the date of finding out the news you had been working so hard at hiding from the love of your life... 

YN: “yes put it in holographic silver below the symbol...”

tattoo guy did as requested... you were one of the many normal things that came out of hunting... you tried to be as normal as possible... but no one in their right mind would ever associate hunting with normality...

once the tattoo was done, the guy gave you a care package with instructions for the first 2 weeks for tattoo care. it was one of the proudest moments of being a hunter...

thats when you and Dean left and he asked you about the bonus addition...

YN: “remember how i was feeling off and i went to see the trusted doc and i went alone... i was late... my period was late... i had to make sure nothing was wrong... Dean its been 2 days since that appointment, i didnt want to keep this from you but its better left for when your sitting down, most likely your gonna pass out or something...”

Dean looked at you confused and wary of what you could possibly want to say... but yet waited till you both got back to the hotel you guys were staying at for a mini vacay away from the bunker... 

you both went into the hotel room but you hadnt been drinking the beer, or anything else alcohol related... but of course you werent gonna say why just yet...

because free pizza and a cute date, why not

Benji is back! That’s me! I’m here! I’m ready to discuss theories, cuz that’s my--my whole deal!

I’m very stressed out right now! If that’s not super clear from my tone and my whole--y’know. Vibes?

So. Moments of Mystery Two, Electric Boogaloo. Or, maybe, Moments of Mystery Two: The Sequel To Moments of Mystery. Who’s to say? Not me! Definitely not me, I have not slept for the past twenty-seven hours, which is kinda interfering with my whole energy. So.

I just drank two five hour energies, speaking of energy. That’s—that’s certainly something. It’s not healthy, but it’s where I’m at today. We are all allowed to have off days. That’s a thing. My off days mean that I’m gonna inhale energy drinks like my life depends on it, so. Boom. I’m the epitome of health. The very paragon of humanity at its finest.

That’s a joke. I promise. I—I’m just having an off week. I let myself have one of those per month, now, and it’s working great. I’m doing great. So great.

Also, I’m keeping a planner now, somehow. Took me long enough? I’m not super into it, but, hey, practice makes perfect, and nobody’s perfect, so. Boom. Yeah!

So. Let’s do a table of contents. Everyone’s favorite thing, I know, but they’re important to me! Please, humor me.

One: Personal updates. In this section, we’ll address how I, personally, am doing. This will hopefully be short.

Two: Recaps and updates on our most recent weird happenings. In this section--well. Self-explanatory. You get it! I get it! We all get it.

Three: Theories. Again, kind of self explanatory.

Four: This is sort of a grab bag, where I’ll throw in some tangents. I don’t know what to title this section. We’ll just call it Untitled and then call it a day, maybe? If I come up with one by then, I’ll clarify.

Five: Sign-off slash conclusion. In this section, I’ll give you a wrap up. Nice and easy. I know it’ll go off the rails, but at least we have a skeleton.

So. Part one. Personal updates. Let’s go. I—I have a quick list, bullet points. I’m very into those lately. All about them.

My life is going okay, I think? I’m--I’ve obviously been very stressed in the past week, but overall, stuff’s going okay! We’re kinda understaffed, which is rough, because people are actually coming in more, now, but, hey, I get it! It’s cool!

Uh. I got a boating licence? For all boat-related needs. I don’t own a boat--I’m not made of money--but I have the option now, y’know? Gotta keep those options out there. If you can’t do everything, what’s the point? I gotta prepare for my whims. Gotta predict what’s next, and, look, I’m unpredictable, so. A walking contradiction, that’s me, like I’m some sort of bad 90s alt-rock lyric. Some sort of manic pixie dream dude. I have the glasses for it and everything. I could pull that off. Make a movie about me, rom-com directors! I’m quirky enough.

And. Final personal update, because rule of threes, because that’s important, and that’s symbolic, and that’s--it’s because I have three personal updates. That’s why, I’m not actually going for three, I--I just have three of ‘em. Very fun.

Uh. That update is that I’m having an off week! I keep mentioning this because I feel like it needs constant reiteration, and also, because my brain is focusing on that thought a lot and I think that if I say it out loud a lot, I’ll stop focusing on it? Which seems counterproductive, but it’s like, uh, listening to a  song that’s stuck in your head with the hope that it’ll get unstuck. Y’know?

But that’s not the fun part of this, my life—that’s not what I’m here to talk about. We’re here for the weird. The wild. The crazy. You get the picture. So. I’m—let’s wrap up part one with a, like. Hope that you guys are all having good weeks? If any of you have a boat, which I sincerely doubt you do, I can drive it now, but I don’t think that I should do it this week. Because—you know. Yeah.

So. Let’s get into part two: Weird stuff. Hell yeah.

Teresa’s thing: Still weird. Still very weird. We all know this. Again, reiterating for effect.

But—we’ve been seeing more and more sort of—not-from-this-universe people. Not entire ones. We still haven’t had any more successes, as far as I know? But—that’s why we have a lot of new customers! Because Mae is—telling them that I’m relatively chill? Which is cool, except for that, again, we’re understaffed. So—

It’s weird. Cuz I have to, uh, give recommendations to folks who can’t really communicate, always, and who can’t really express anything with their faces, because their faces are kind of obscured, but, look, I’ve gotten really good at listening comprehension now, so, uh, take that, ERBs. Take that, fourth grade teachers with bizarre reward-punishment systems that really didn’t help at all and kind of encouraged bullying?

I know that Charlotte was very dismissive of this, but I am curious about the nature of doubles between universes. Because there isn’t one of me, unlike the rest of you. That’s—we know that Teresa’s double is also very determined, very resilient, and very into bad comedy. We know that Elaine’s double is also new in town, though we don’t know much about her, and we know that Charlotte’s double is intimidating, which, no comment. I am not, personally, intimidated by Our-Charlotte, but, uh. Maybe that’s also an also? Who’s to say? Again, not me! We don’t know much about Other-AJ or Other-Robin or Other-Angie other than that Other-Angie did not go to Harvard at all, and instead started at Lands?

Tongue twister, there. So much usage of the word other, way-too-much. We need a better word. A noun, maybe, rather than an adjective, or maybe a word that functions as both? Like orange. Or, uh classic, or static, or, or, or.

Again. You get the picture. You—you guys get what I’m saying.

It feels weird, knowing what’s next. There’s not much to do with that knowing other than to know it. Which is annoying, y’know? It’s just—it’s. Surreal, to have this knowledge that’s so strange.

Which leads me into part three: Theories! Everyone’s favorite part of this maybe, my favorite part of this definitely.

Re: doubles—I think it’s random. Well, not random, but, like—it’s just the way the multiverse crumbles, I guess. Or, not crumbles. But functions. It’s—it’s not breaking down, that’s not what’s going on here. It’s just existing. As is the wont of multiverses. I think that’s their wont, at least. I assume. Maybe I shouldn’t?

We know now that there’s not really a big destiny here. I—I’m putting together pieces that mean nothing because I feel like I have to, yeah? But there are answers to be found.

Time stopped again yesterday. Did any of you notice? Cuz I did. I really did. That should have gone in section two, but I just remembered it now. It’s kinda getting boring, all these things are just—blurring together. They’re underwhelming. Hey, parallel universe, get some better special effects, y’know? Make it flashier. The audience wants saturation, wants intrigue, wants—something more than this. Whatever this is.

If you told me a year ago that I’d find time shenanigans boring—I don’t know. It would’ve been shocking? I would react weird.

Oh! I have something, uh. Related. Something related: I still don’t know why it’s us, though. As much as Mae says it’s not us, it has to be, because—we repeated a day. Nobody else did, but we did. It’s not self-importance, here, it’s fact. If I say, hey, have you ever time-looped, to a person, they look at me like I’m batshit. And you notice these things. You notice them—because you miss work, or because you miss class, or because you miss your doctor’s appointment—the rest of the world did the exact same as they did, but we—we went through a day twice, differently.

It’s not coincidence. It’s—something.

The time loop happened before we met Mae. Before we started talking about what happened, before there was a record, other than Teresa’s journals, which she won’t let any of us read.

It’s something. I don’t know what it is, but it’s something. That’s gotta have some significance in this, right?

I don’t know. I guess—I’ll just continue? Because I think that my point needs further elaboration. More—detail. More intrigue. I am all about intrigue. If there’s no intrigue, there’s no point, right? Right. Flash is important, in the long run. Gotta make an impact, gotta make a statement, or else, you’re insignificant to history. Well. Not insignificant. Plenty of quiet people are significant. But—Look. Listen.

Every action is important re: the fate of the universe and humanity and also everything else, but I feel like that’s implied already, so. So, like, we already had to be significant to this. But we never got that Why Us answer, and I don’t even know how to expand the question further than just those two words, Why Us.

It’s not the existential Why Us, either it’s the very literal Why Us that I’m asking, but it’s just—

I want that answer. I care about that answer. I need to know! We all need to know—I don’t care if it’s cosmic necessity or wrong place right time or right place wrong time or whatever, I care about knowing. I’m a big fan of knowing. Really big fan of it. I’m just—overwhelmed by normal life, underwhelmed by mystery-hunting life, and I want the vice-versa. Yeah? Yeah. Want to drown in the cool shit and breathe in the boring shit. That’s my whole thing. My whole deal. That’s balance, that place between drowning and hyperventilation. But I wanna tilt the scales a bit toward drowning, cuz I’m an adrenaline junkie.

And I—I think I’m entitled to know it. We’re all entitled to know it; it’s something about us that we’re missing. Something that we’re not asking for whatever reason. We gotta dig deeper. Gotta figure out our role, and then we gotta play it. Method act. You know?

So. That’s—this isn’t really a grab bag, but I’m too all over the place to come up with a better title, so.

So. How do I even end this? I—I don’t have bullet points for this part. I really don’t. I should’ve written them down as I went along with, uh, stuff that I needed to get back to, but I didn’t, and I gotta reconsider that for the future, but. Hey, nobody’s perfect. I’m certainly not. We have to keep asking questions. I’m not a leader by any means—you guys can’t really be led regardless of who’s in charge. I can’t be led, I can’t lead. We’re a pretty chaotic group, and I love that. I love this dynamic a lot. It’s good. It works, for all the ways it shouldn’t.

But—we have to. We need to drive ourselves to understand. That’s—that’s bad wording, but you know what I mean. You don’t need total clarity to get my gist.

Time stopped again this morning. And it stopped last night, and it’ll stop again soon, and again, and again, and again, and again—

We’re background players, but so’s everyone, in the context of every story. Why don’t we try and change that? Something else is clearly trying to make us more important. I think that whatever that something is has a point.

Hello friend!Boy howdy this is a complicated question, it’s gonna have a long answer so hold onto your ramen cause we’re going for a rideI really love the people here. That’s why a lot of people come- you can usually settle into a group of friends pretty quickly bc a lot of the students here are chill af, and 96% of the faculty are the most caring individuals you’ll ever meet and they take your life, as a learner and otherwise, seriously. Professors regularly email you if you miss more than a couple classes to make sure you’re okay, everyone knows each other, the President almost always strolls around campus giving words of wisdom (and occasionally hugs!) to people. It feels like home and that’s why I like it. Additionally, the academics are rigorous and challenging (depending on your major, you will probably be writing papers regularly, most of which will be at least 5 pages; there’s also our senior comp, which is a research project akin to a dissertation and is usually 20-150 pages long depending on your department), but the professors are really there to make sure you grasp the content. And the financial aid is pretty good- it’s still hella expensive, but they usually toss you a good wad of cash to get you going. THAT SAID. There’s a lot of problems, institutionally; some may affect you and some may not, and since I don’t know anything about you I’ll just give a rundown and you can come back with any specific questions you have. First. Our Title IX office (which deals mostly with sexual harassment/assault/etc) is HORRENDOUS. Cases are extremely slow to even be looked at and solutions are rarely implemented. In many cases, people who commit acts of sexual violence are allowed to stay on campus, which often leads to the survivors leaving- we are a small campus after all and you’re bound to run into them eventually. Just last semester, we had a student who had two PFAs (Protection From Assault/Abuse (cant remember which of those it is), a document ordered by a county court similar to a restraining order) against him who was permitted to stay on campus after two separate girls accused him of attempted sexual assault. The girls had attempted to go through our Title IX office, but that proved so ineffective they ended up going to county court instead (which is a lot of extra steps most of the time). There have been countless similar cases of our Title IX office responding inadequately or extremely slow; a friend of mine sophomore year requested to get her locks on her room changed due to an incident and it took them over two months to do so. Tldr; I have a friend that works at the local domestic violence shelter and they were having a training where the question of where to direct a college student who has been assaulted for help. One of the non-college people brought up Gheny’s Title IX office and every SINGLE student in the room made it very clear that that is the exact opposite of what you should do.Generally, Allegheny tends to be reactive rather than proactive; they respond to individual incidents when they happen (albeit usually poorly), but never take steps to make sure they don’t happen again unless the student body puts ENORMOUS pressure on administrators. During my freshman year, a student was hit by a car at night, due to the fact that the main road on campus (which is also a main road into town) did not have any street lamps. The student was killed. After running a campaign about pedestrian safety that felt EXTREMELY victim blame-y, they did install some lights on that road, but none of the others, so the rest of campus is still hella dark and I would probably not recommend walking around at night for a whole lotta reasons. Our racial diversity is... disappointing. Especially faculty. We have two Black professors left on campus, I think, plus some other faculty members here and there (there were a LOT more; there’s been at least 5-10 faculty members of color that have left since I came here in 2015); no Native faculty that I’m aware of, a couple Southeast Asian, a couple Latinx, etc, but it’s pretty dismal. We can recruit faculty of color but they don’t stay for long; partially because the school doesn’t appreciate the efforts they make and partially because Meadville (the town we’re in) is not always safe for POC. That tends to trickle down into students of color as well. Queer/trans stuff- we’re getting there. We have two trans faculty members that I’m aware of (one of which is a counselor and one who is an associate dean), and a handful that are some flavor of queer. Generally, you can walk around campus with your same-gender partner or expressing your gender however you like with minimal problems, though I would be cautious in town. We have some limited gender-inclusive housing options and all-gender restrooms in many of the academic buildings; when I was working in the IDEAS Center (our multicultural office) last year one of my projects was to go to every building and tally the restrooms in every building, how many stalls etc and I /think/ we got all of the single-stall bathrooms converted into all-gender because of that? And we may look into de-gendering some multi stall bathrooms if we can. We have some work to do here but we’re getting there. All in all- it’s a really great place in terms of the people you meet and the education you get. It’s really great for networking because our alumni are super involved with current students and it’s really easy to get into jobs and internships if you utilize the alumni connections. The education is also phenomenal prep for grad school, since the work you do here is only a half-step down from what most places require for a masters. Everything feels really homey and it’s easy to find your place- but it’s really REALLY hard to find help if something does go wrong. If you haven’t yet, I encourage you to do one of the overnight visits if you can, as physically being here is what really gives you the best feel for the school in my opinion. Woohoo! Alright dear dirtling let me give you my Utah specific dig list (there will.be some repeats from other lists. Sorry).

1. Invest in good shoes if possible. Go for high ankle boots if you can. They put let pressure on your feet and support your ankles while walking. You can find the boots I wear on the boot post Reid linked. They are great for filtering out the sand.

2. There are ticks out there fam. Do not. Wear shorts. I recommend Rustic Ridge cargo pants. Or something similar. Long enough to protect you, strong enough to hold up, but light enough that you wont overheat (I am a curvy woman and they still work great for me, so regardless of gender i recommend pants like this)

3. Sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen

4. Get a smaller SQUARE trowel. This is better for digging units, doesnt strain your wrist, and gives you beautiful unit walls

5. Bring warm clothing and bedding too. It gets real cold at night. Better safe than sorry. Also be prepared for rain.

6. It's silly, but find an easy candy (I do jolly ranchers) that you can keep in your bag. Sometimes that little sweet can really boost your morale.

6. Also tick related grab some DEET for your clothes and tent, and some mosquito spray for your skin. Lotions also work but can get messy.

7. You'll have down time. Bring books. Download movies or podcasts (but be aware there may not be a way to charge devices) bring card games. You will get bored. If this happens, sleep.

8. Start walking now. Just every chance you can start walking with purpose. If you end up doing survey, you want to be ready. I tried to walk at least 2 miles a day 4 days a week beforehand.

9. If you dont have to worry about a menstrual cycle, skip this one. If you do, be prepared. Even if you dont think itll happen, bring supplies and bring a sealable ziplock to store used products in just in case there is not other disposal options. Also, if you wear traditional womens underwear, I highly suggest investing in mens sports boxers. No chafing, and they dry way quicker. Trust me. They are a life saver.

10. Rattlesnakes. There will be rattlesnakes but dont worry! They let you know they are there, you just have to pay attention. If the worst happens, Moab has a great hospital! Either way, dont worry to much about them.

11. Wide brimmed hat is absolutely necessary. You may look like a dork! But it will protect you. (On a similar vein I also recommend untinted glasses to block UV light. Tinted or sunglasses make the ground very difficult to see properly)

12. Lastly, I'm gonna lump some small ones together. Have fun. Listen to the instructors, dont be afraid to make mistakes and DO NOT. LICK. THE RODENT MIDDENS. (If you happen to bop on down to Bluff, go to the Twin Rocks Cafe and get a navajo taco. Thank me later)

EPISODE 02: Hmm, Okay, Sounds Weird But Okay

For the castaways’ second immunity challenge, a glitch in the system took down their Deep Space Survival Procedures and Protocol Manual, also known as the Rules page. Their task was to reconstruct it as best they could, which shouldn’t have been hard since they all definitely read those rules thoroughly before beginning the game, right? 

Hmm, perhaps not. They both did a decent job reconstructing, though. Within the first two hours of the challenge, Lovelace found a loophole and used the Rules from one of Ari’s other games as a template to work from. Even with that, Minkowski was a fierce contender - maybe they actually did read the rules - and the teams tied. Ultimately it was Lovelace’s early submission time that secured them a second win.

At Minkowski’s second Space Council, Jay was voted out 6 - 1 and went to join Karen inside the star. The DSSPPM was restored, and the anarchy of this round was laid to rest.

i got my way and karen just left :) noah fence karen you just were the only person on the team i wasnt aligned with bc i needed someone to vote out if we lost im sure youre great!!!!!! i'm not aligned with everyone left which isn't good bc if we lose then i'm fucked lmao... the person i'm least aligned with is probably Pat??? which is interesting bc stevie and jay didn't vote with me.... i really wanted to vote with them but they wanted to vote for jakey and he's one of my closest allies at this point.... i should have just straight up told stevie and jay that i had the votes to get out karen that way there would be more team unity and if we lose again jakey wouldnt be so for voting one of them out and i could point the finger to Pat for the least amount of blood on my hands but I know stevie and karen are friends and i didn't want to be so obvious about the fact that i know the votes were there for karen bc im the one who got them all lmao we really need to win this and then hopefully a team swap happens bc if we go back to space council with this group i'm fucked i have too many allies this is wild

hello!! so basically today was SPACE COUNCIL DAY!!!! so we have some content ladies, saddle up! 

so coming into council i've only spoken with richie and pat one on one lol which is clearly NOT GREAT so i had to get to #werk. richie informs me at 7:10 that miss karen wanted either me or richie to leave. 

now clearly since i'm me and richie is one of the two people that have built a relationship with me im like hell no!!!! so at this point it's clear karen is the person i was gonna target since she came for me yknow 

so RENEE messages me today and we get to talking a little bit and we immediately have a GREAT bond. i get good vibes from her and i was so happy to find someone i could potentially work with closely in this game! 

so she rly wants to keep me and she hasn't talked to karen, so i knew i could get her vote from there. so then it was mostly talking to pat and what i've gathered from pat is he's very secretive and sketchy... like this vote he wasn't saying much which i know he was busy and everything but he was telling richie like he wont be around so he might not be able to vote or something and it was ????? also he's apparently close with JOSH because i havent spoken once to josh and pat was like "ok josh will vote with us" and i was like hmmm okay sounds weird but okay. 

so yeah it ended up being me/richie/renee/pat/josh for karena n karen/stevie/jay  voting for me. im all fine for this outcome especially since i got to have my sandra-esque "AND THE QUEEN STAYS QUEEN" moment... i was LIVING... but im so worried pat/josh will turn on me in the next vote!!! i don't trust them at all and maybe it's time to start trying to built relationships with stevie and jay since maybe they feel on the outs after this vote. 

at this point i know im going to be an ONGOING target on this team so the quicker we swap, the BETTER (i also want to reunite w some cuties on the other team)

Welp, that was a shit show.

A bit of context: I hated both options that came up. I tried subtly dropping Renee once or twice, but it was clear that wasn't gaining traction. My next preference would have been Jay, probably. That wasn't happening, either. People seemed locked on Jakey and Karen, which irked me and still kinda does. But since I was out I didn't really have much ability to make anything happen.

So, why take out Karen over Jakey? It gets complex. At the core of it, in a vacuum, I feel Karen would have been more loyal to me than Jakey likely will be down the road. But the issue comes in who I would have been throwing my hat in with if I'd gone with Karen. Those three votes were Jay, Stevie and Karen herself. I'd have made it four, and I presume Josh and I were always voting in lockstep. Either that, or rocks on the first vote which yikes.

Plain and simple, I don't like that group as a means to reach the end. I think me/Josh/Jakey/Renee/Richie will be a much more effective group. I wish Karen had talked to more people, because adding her to this group would've been great.

Also, Josh stated a preference to voting out Karen over Jakey. I really want to keep Josh feeling like he can trust me 100%. I always do better in these games when I have an unquestioned #1 ally. So I let him feel – rightfully – that if his preference was Karen, we'd do Karen. It helped that I was leaning that way, myself, for the reasons above.

Also, Jakey's pretty fun. A bit abrasive sometimes for my taste, but I'm not mad at all about working with him. He'll be a good ally, I think.

Ah well, onward and upward. RIP, Moose Alliance.

so we lost and now i'm fucked bc no matter who i vote for tonight i'm going to be backstabbing someone since i'm a dumbass lmao

me stevie and jay aren't an official alliance but we have talked about working together jakey has told me i'm his #1 and we have gotten close josh and renee are 2 of my favorite people who i just won't vote out rn

and pat and i really connected at the beginning of the game but i've kinda stopped the breaks on that relationship bc i needed someone with no connection with in case we went to council but it looks like it's impossible for me to put the vote on pat tonight which sucks for my game bc im going to be pissing off someone just who's it going to be??? idk bc we're less than 2 hours from council and no one is around!!!!!!

i love jay and i wanted to work with him but the last vote really fractured the team and choosing to go with the minority with a possible team swap coming just isn't the best idea???? i'm trying to do damage control with stevie 15 minutes before the vote so that if this all goes down as planned then i still have room to work with him hopefully
