Which caused thoughts/shame about crying but more bc I know I need to work on that but also about being so anxious and emotional today.

And then I got to class and could fix my high anxiety, not like normal anyways. I just wanted to watch a children’s show or listen to music or do a meditation but I couldn’t do shit except breathe and tap my foot bc I’m in class.

I literally had five times I thought I might cry in the class and then I had to do the stupid presentation

How did you start building the world of widderwood? What inspired it and how did you flesh it out?

When I was a 12 year old I watched corpse bride and made the typical inexperienced kid artist's move of making a blatant copy of the world lol. It didn't get off the ground and just became kind of a Thing I quickly dropped until much later, again as kids do. Truly, the only echoes of it that remain are Troy (now a super minor bg character in Widderwood, there to pay homage to my kid past) and the concept of "Victorian dude who ends up on the other side with friendly paranormal" Deg was developed completely separate from WW or any idea of a plot at all. Deg came first, and a few years later I created Waite as an addition to Deg. By this point I was maybe 14, 15 when Deg and Waite became a resurrection of that first worldbuild. It had its own plot now, but barely. I still had no idea how stories really worked. The boys were the only two really part of the world, and were more very frequent doodle characters than anything.

In my early 20s, I escaped my abusive home and the boys became my crutches to deal with the immediate aftermath. I was never able to process what I went through until then and I became obsessed with them. (I still am, but am in infinitely better health now) This is where Widderwood really took shape- it was a loose sandbox where I explored topics of myself while my partner and I tried to track down professional help for me and I learned how to be alive for the first time. I didn't intend to make it a serious story.

This slowly built up into what it is now and before I knew it, it accidentally became serious. New characters to support, concepts, themes just kind of came to me. The entire thing is built from my special interests- a wholly indulgent project meant to both soothe and entertain myself. It communicates a puzzle depicting both the horrible things I've been targeted for growing up with an autism diagnosis, and genuine joy & pride I have for my identity despite the downsides. Now that I've officially been in medical recovery for a little over a year, I'm able to think much clearer and write the story with the help of my partner.

To put it quickly, its inspired by my own life/identity, and special interests like death, history, and New England aesthetics. It was fleshed out by accident when I finally turned inward and allowed myself to exist and examine what I truly like. Widderwood has been a lifelong companion of mine and as long as it stays fulfilling, the relationship will continue. Like a real friend its been with me through bad, and now, finally, the good. And I'm sure if that 12 year old with the obsession for weird Halloween creatures knew about Widderwood... they would love it and maybe feel a little more hope for theirself.

Wonwoo has taken quite an interest in changing up the interior design of his apartment. It started from purchasing a new carpet for the living room, then changing the color of the cabinets in the kitchen, up to buying new furniture that is way heavy and difficult to carry with just two hands. 

This week, Wonwoo’s goal is combining his work space to his gaming room. That’s why he purchased a multipurpose table and chair set that could bring his vision to life. Ever since he decided to do this, he’s been a ball of excitement. He’s been talking to you about matching the design, feel and energy that he envisions non stop. The joy in his eyes never fails to put a smile on your face. It’s adorable and everything, but again, as you have mentioned, not every piece of furniture is a one man’s job. 

After insisting on carrying his new set by himself, Wonwoo is now sporting a sprain on his right hand. You weren’t present when the accident happened and you only found out when a dilemma arose and he called for your assistance.

“I think it will be fine if you don’t shave for a few days,” you say while fumbling with the bladed tool on your hand. “Or I don’t know, a few weeks tops?”

Said dilemma is helping keep his chin, jaw and the borders of his upper lip hairless.

In other words, shaving.

Wonwoo could only smile fondly at your nervous form atop the bathroom sink as you wait for him to finish washing his face. It’s not that you’re obligated to do this as his partner. In fact, you’re right. He can manage without shaving the hairs on his face. It’s just that he’s not used to not shaving and he goes back to work in two days. He would honestly prefer to appear without an unfamiliar look that would only bombard him with questions. He’s not in the mood to explain how and what happened, from beginning to end. 

Wonwoo’s smile widens when his freshly washed face meets your gentle hands, wiping the water off of his skin with a soft towel. Despite your reluctance, you’re still ready to take care of him. He kisses your cheek once you’re done and it helps soothe your qualms and fears of accidentally injuring your boyfriend. 

“You don’t have to do this,” Wonwoo promises as he takes hold of the shaving cream from the cabinet. “It’s just that I’m really not used to using my left hand.” 

“I know, I know,” you agree with a bop of your head. “I wouldn’t want you cutting your skin. Now, that would make me even guiltier.” 

Wonwoo just kept smiling. A smile that never drops or fades away whenever he’s with you. He’s not sure if you notice it because he tries his best to be discreet in showing them everytime. But, yes, he’s indeed lovestruck and it is obvious as he dreamily smiles at you. 

Finally, you raise your chin up again and that catches Wonwoo off-guard. He gives you a cheeky grin to which you roll your eyes at. You jokingly push his face away, earning a chuckle from him. “Stop smiling at me like that.”

Wonwoo’s eyebrows shoot up in curiosity. “Why not? Am I not allowed to smile at you? Am I not allowed to be happy?”

You only scoff at him before taking the cream from his hand. “Stop smiling at me like that because you know it drives me crazy.”

Wonwoo immediately avoids your eyes as heat slowly crawls up to his face. You don’t fail to notice his sudden shyness and it’s now your turn to chuckle. 

Without wasting any more time, you tug at his arm to make his body stand in between your legs. You want to get this over with and at the same time you want your boyfriend to finally get comfortable and go back to finishing setting up his new table (of course, with your guidance and care). Wonwoo’s warm hands rest on your pajama cladded lap. He gives them one to two squeezes as a sign that he trusts you. 

“Tell me what to do,” you ask as you squeeze a small amount from the bottle on your palm. 

“I usually put that exact amount and apply it to my face,” Wonwoo tells you his routine while guiding your hands to his face. When he notices how you’re doing a good job, he teasingly praises you, “You’re a pro at this. You should take charge of shaving my face from now on.”

“Shut up unless you want another injury.” You fake a glare and he just gives you a pout. 

This boy, you thought in love.

After the cream is evenly applied just as he instructed, you carefully graze the razor against his skin, slowly removing the cream and hairs along with it. Wonwoo only made small movements, whispering words of assurance to not scare you. All the while, he has returned his gaze to your concentrated face. Your lip was caught between your teeth as you made sure every part was covered. That makes your boyfriend’s insides all mushy and he can’t wait to pepper your whole face with kisses. 

You were finished in less than ten minutes and if you think about it, it’s not that hard. Maybe you do have a knack for shaving your boyfriend’s face. But, you wouldn’t let him know that right now. 

“Thank you baby,” Wonwoo expresses his gratitude by locking his arms around your waist and resting his freshly shaved face on the crook of your neck. “I don’t know what I would do without you.”

Your boyfriend’s dramatics is no news for you so you just let him be and return his embrace with a kiss on his forehead.

I got two ideas from "The Woodworm Men" that might go together, would you be interested in either or both of these as a WW/FF? 1) When Thomas can't sleep on the hard ground, Alison realises he needs something soft under his wounded back and makes his pitifully neglected bed more comfortable for him. 2) Thomas realises the plague ghosts have been sleeping on the floor for centuries, invites Nigel to share his bed for the first time, and soothes him to sleep with his soft voice and gentle touch.

Oh, I'm definitely interested in these ideas, anon! 💙 I've always wondered why Thomas couldn't sleep and was up before dawn in 3x03 and you've come up with a wonderful explanation here! I also really love moments where Alison is kind to Thomas - he always seems so honestly baffled by it (her inviting him to the party in 2x02 for example).

Once he's out on his adventure, he'd often be too far away from the forest to go there to recover. If he was in/near Market Town, he'd bunk down with the Dog Lady because she is super friendly and is sympathetic to strays, both for dogs and for people, and she would make him delicious soup. If he was near Kakariko, he would bundle up in a corner of the cuccoo coop to sleep, unless Anju/Cuccoo Lady saw him, in which case she would drag him into her home and make him sleep on a bed because he's a person not a chicken!!! And of course, his preference was always to go to Lon Lon Ranch if he could, because it was warm and soothing and Malon was a great comforting presence. This is especially true after he becomes an adult and liberates the ranch from Ingo. Malon is, in fact, extremely insistent that Link come to her for anything he needs, whether it's sleep, provisions, or just company. Lon Lon Milk is very nutritious, and if Link refused to drink it when he was sick, Malon would pin him down and pour it down his throat. He's still welcome in Kakariko, especially because people recognize him as the friendly green boy who was always running around 7 years ago. But Malon is the default. Once he goes to Termina, he usually sleeps in the room you steal from the Goron in the Stock Pot Inn, because for him, it is warm and easily accessible, even if it's not the greatest inn in the world. Although Link has many options, usually, to help his recovery, he often uses fairies on the road because they flock to him. Unlike the other Links, he doesn’t really have to seek them out, so fairies take precedence over potions, which he mostly uses to recharge his magic.

WW: If he's anywhere near Outset Island, he'll go home and let his grandma spoil him rotten, because he's still young and frequently homesick and his grandma misses him very very much. He dedicates one of his bottles to her soup, and if he gets sick, he drinks it and it helps him a lot. Because a good deal of the sea is uninhabited, he often ends up docking the King somewhere and sleeping in his hull, covered with the sail as a blanket (in case it rains). Ideally he'd find a sheltered cove somewhere for this, but beggars can't be choosers. Dehydration hits him more often than actual sickness, and he gets into the habit of making sure he has enough fresh water packed to last him to the next island. He's perpetually sunburned, and the merchants on Windfall make a fortune selling him the Zelda equivalent of sunscreen. When he slips up and fails to use it and gets ROASTED, he heads to the Forest Haven because of its cool, pure spring water and comfy shady nooks. The company of the Great Deku Tree and the Koroks goes a long way towards making his temporary discomfort easier to bear. Fairies are a bit harder to come by for this Link, so he relies more on soup and potions.

TP: Nothing beats the warm comfort of his bed in Ordon Village. This is Link’s default place to sleep off any illness he gets, especially once Midna is able to warp him around. When he’s here, the villagers tend to him, especially Uli. Link never comes here when he’s injured, though, because he doesn’t want them to see him bloody and hurt. If for whatever reason Ordon isn’t an option, he’ll head to the nearest Light Spirit spring and camp out, hit up Telma’s bar, or go to Renado’s in Kakariko. In fact, if Link is injured, he’ll prioritize a Light Spirit spring over any other place because of their healing properties. Midna isn’t much use when it comes to bedside manners, so if Link’s in a bad enough state that it will take him awhile to recover, and he’ll struggle to do things for himself, he’ll either go to Renado or Telma (depending on the nature on the injury/what he needs as far as support). If he has some of the Yeti’s soup on him, he'll knock that back, and he frequently warps back there when he can to stock up. He’ll occasionally sleep there as well, but usually in wolf form, because it’s so cold. Link mostly uses potions rather than fairies because there are lots of potion vendors. He usually keeps a single fairy in reserve, just in case.

SS: Since Skyloft is a great place to recuperate, Link always goes home when he’s injured or sick. The nice thing about having a connection to his Loftwing is the trust that comes with it. He knows his Loftwing will carry him safely home, even if Link is barely conscious and can’t give directions. The entire island mothers him aggressively, especially when he’s injured. It’s nice to know he’s loved, because prior to his quest, Link was frequently bullied and the adults on the island didn’t do much to step in. Now, though, they’re all very eager to look after him, and he appreciates it. This Link doesn’t use fairies or potions regularly. At most, he might keep a fairy or two to revive him if a battle goes sideways.

aLttP: He does go home whenever he can, but it’s empty now that his uncle is dead, and he has to weigh the emotional baggage of that versus the benefits of a warm, snug place to sleep. Kakariko’s sometimes a good place, because the knights aren’t always there and some of the villagers are willing to hide him. If there’s a heavy guard presence, he’ll sleep in the chicken coop because the knights never look there. Otherwise, he might hit up the Sanctuary. There aren’t many “safe” places for him to sleep in Hyrule, and so more often than not, he has to sleep in a bush somewhere, fitfully tossing and turning while he keeps an ear out for approaching enemies. As a result, this Link struggles with insomnia and has a hard time getting any rest. He duly relies more on fairies to heal his injuries/illnesses than the other Links do, and he always has several potions on hand to help him manage injuries while he heads to the nearest “safe” place.

Oracles: The warp seeds make it very easy for Link to get wherever he needs to go. Bipin and Blossom take him in the most, as Link helped heal their son Bipsom when HE was ill. They always have a bed ready for him, and they consider Link family because of all he has done for them. Whether injured or ill, this is where Link will go. Very serious injuries result in fairy use, though, so they only ever see him have more minor wounds. This is also where Link goes when he needs a good hot meal or just to sleep for a day or two in-between adventures. When he leaves at the end of the game, he is sorry to go. This Link doesn’t use potions or fairies very much at all, except in dungeons/battle.

ALBW: Link mostly sleeps off illnesses or recovers from injuries at his house. It’s complicated somewhat by Ravio’s presence, but at least there is someone there to help bandage him up or look after him when he’s too sick/hurt to do things himself. They have a strange friendship that’s half camaraderie and half capitalism haha. This Link also uses a fair share of potions and fairies, as he eventually becomes annoyed living in such constant close quarters with Ravio, and he just wants to heal faster so he can get back to work.

LA: Naturally, Link goes to Marin when he’s hurt or sick. She’s soothing and gentle, and when Link has nightmares or is in too much pain to sleep, Marin will sing to him until he settles down. It’s the safest Link’s felt in a long time. Because there are a few fairy fountains around Koholint, and because he can always warp back to either Marin’s village or the animal village (another warm, comfy place to recover), this Link doesn’t use potions or fairies much.

FS: This one’s interesting. There are four of them, but they each experience their own illnesses and injuries. The benefit to having a squad is the support system that comes with it. If one of them gets hurt or sick, the others can set up camp, stand guard, and look after him until he feels better. As a result, these Links don’t often have to find a village or other “safe” place to recover. They’re able to hunker down pretty much anywhere and take as long as they need to get better.

BOTW: The Sheikah Slate makes finding a safe place to recover a piece of cake for Link. Before he gets his house, this Link will hit up the nearest stable and enjoy the company of others while he sleeps off illnesses or bandages up his injuries. He has easy access to food and to fairies because of warping (once he's found the locations, at least), so he never lacks for supplies. Once his house is built, Link will sojourn there for however long it takes him to heal up. The toughest part of his journey is the very beginning, before he has access to all of these things. At that point, he's like aLttP Link, sleeping in bushes and keeping an ear out for enemies. He's much healthier and happier once he's found places that are safe.

LoZ/Zelda2: This poor Link. Hyrule’s such a desolate wasteland and villages are few and far between. He lacks the teleportation abilities of BOTW Link, and like aLttP Link, this Link has to sleep in bushes or in caves, keeping an ear out for danger. Fairies and potions are harder to come by for him, though, so he develops healing magic to shore up that weakness. It’s saved his life more times than he can count. Sometimes, though, he wishes there was someplace he could easily go to be looked after, instead of always having to fend for himself.

While I’ve played PH and ST, I don’t really remember them, so I’m afraid I don’t have any headcanons for this. Hope you enjoyed it anon!

1. Is there a Zelda game(s) that you associate with each season or time of year?

Yes! I’m pretty sure I got TP for Christmas one year and I always associate playing that with the abysmal darkness that is winter in the northern hemisphere. Also rather theme-appropriate to the game tbh.

2. Favourite 2D title?

I haven’t played a single 2D Zelda yet.

3. Favourite incarnation of Zelda?

Ahhh that’s a hard question! OoT Zelda holds such a special place in my heart as my first Zelda, but Dusk is so gorgeous and looks like she just never smiles (love that for her), but then Tetra is such a badass, and SS Zelda is such a sweetheart, BotW Zelda has such incredible characterization and growth… I can’t choose!!

4. Least favourite entry in the series?

Gonna get my ass beat by a breakfast food for this one, but honestly?? TP. It’s the only title I didn’t immediately pick up and play through a second time. I bet I’d feel differently if I picked it up again today, though.

5. Favourite LOZ soundtrack?

If we’e going with game as a whole, absolutely BotW’s soundtrack. The beautiful melancholy of riding around Hyrule to the notes of songs half-remembered just soothes my brain, and hearing Termina’s clocktower chime in the Hyrule Castle interior theme legit made me tear up.

6. Is there a Zelda game that intimidates you/looks too hard?

Not really! Zelda titles are always super fun and challenging, but never “hard.” The only game I’ve stopped for being hard/scary was RE4.

7. Favourite dungeons?

OoT Water Temple, MM Stone Tower, SS Ancient Cistern. I love dungeons that are huge puzzles!!

9. Least favourite character in the series?

Honestly, Midna. Her redemption arc never satisfied me, but I am the type to hold a grudge.

11. Favourite Ganon characterization?

WW’s Ganondorf was the most sympathetic of his incarnations imo, he had an interesting motivation and I felt bad for him, honestly. Dude deserved better.

15. Favourite location within Hyrule?

That depends on the game, tbh. In SS, it’s the Lanayru Desert (AND the Silent Realms). Kakariko Village is usually pretty solid no matter the game.

Absolutely puzzles. Combat is just mashing buttons and timing, but the puzzles actually use my brain.

Demise is the only final boss who killed me MULTIPLE TIMES.

I’m not sure this qualifies as a “sidequest” but that goddamn motherfucking asshole in SS with the carnival game that shoots you in the air can suck my dick. I never got that piece of heart. I wanted to wrap that horn around his THROAT.

45. Best sidequest in the series?

The Anju and Kafei sidequest from MM is probably the most memorable, but the fetch quests in SS were pretty fun.

50. Favourite shield?

Goddess Shield is so pretty, even if the colors make my eyes bleed just a lil.
