okay yeah now i understand why the 2021 j&h film has such bad reviews lmao. that was one of the worst things ive seen in my life
#jekyll and hyde#missives#things i probably shouldnt be mean about but will include:#terrible acting. awful costumes. the same two sets used repeatedly. the same carriage used repeatedly#it was good for like five mins then dissolved into absolute mayhem#at least utterson was there? and the main character? small mercies#but the crux of it is. in this version hyde is jekyll's evil twin brother who was imprisoned most of his life by their father#as a nature vs nurture experiment. allegedly.#he actually did do all those crimes and pin them on jekyll and also he forced himself into the will#jekyll is repeatedly stated to be a saint who gave free medicine to the poor and also killed himself because he couldnt bear the shame#of allowing his brother back into the world. who btw he wanted utterson to befriend. but utterson#(who btw has a wife in this version)#literally shot hyde causing him to fall backwards into a giant#vat of acid. that he himself built and used to dispose of his victims#this movie just beggars belief like genuinely#my two other main gripes are a) constant tonal whiplash (why is there slapstick in this??)#and b) complete enfield character assassination. hes a predator who tries to assault utterson's wife#anyway i dont know what i expected ✌️
