š or š„ļø (or both if you're feeling it)
EHEHE thank you very much for the ask! Gonna mix both prompts and give something soft with my favourite dialogue of this piece (and it's not even a wip actually, this is just a completed bit of writing I have on hand that I'm not really planning on doing anything with) which asks the question I'm pretty sure only I have asked: what if Apollo was the one to tell Heracles that he had to head to the Underworld after he'd lost Hylas during the Argo Expedition (also he consoles him a little).
"It'll never get easier, will it? This life."
Phoebus Apollo doesn't answer him. Before, Heracles would've blamed it on ego, the vanity of the gods who think themselves so much better than the mortals they yank about with their power. Now, Heracles thinks he's just a figment of his imagination, another twisted trick brought on by that bitch of the Heavens. The silence stretches on and on, only the sound of his digging and the quiet rustle of fabric fills the space between them. Were Hylas still here, he'd happily fill this stale air, nattering on and on about herbs or the colour of the fish in the lake, or the beauty of the stars between the treetops. Now, the silence is oppressive. Dense. Like the weight of water pushing all the air from his lungs.
Heracles quickly takes the bundle of Hylas' meagre things and throws it into the hole. Best not to dwell on it. Especially not when an Olympian was right beside him. (Maybe it's a good thing that this illusion is so placid. Gives him space to breathe. To think.)
He spits, picks up the flint. "Can't answer that one either? How about an easier question then," the sparks catch on the edge of Hylas' silk belt, quickly eating up the precious gift. Hylas only got to wear it once when they'd celebrated the night before the Argo set sail. He'd wanted to bring it home for his mother. "Was I also cursed to be alone for the rest of my life? It's not enough that she took my family, she's going to take everyone that treats me well too?"
Phoebus Apollo remains silent, fire turning his body warm gold. Heracles clicks his tongue, anger mounting. First Megara then Pholus and now Hylas. Man, woman, beast, it didn't matter at all, did it? All would die if they loved him. Everything would melt away like ash on his tongue and she would keep him alive just to see him squirm.
"Don't just sit there fiddling with your cloth damn it, answer me!"
Phoebus Apollo looks up then. Eyes so gold they seem to burn their own colour, calm brow, stern lips. This wasn't the playful god who refused to let him take his sister's hind without proving his worth, nor was it the distant prophet outlining the sentence for his crimes. This was someone, something else entirely and Heracles can only swallow his tongue in the face of it.
"Come," he beckons with the slightest tilt of his chin, "sit here." Heracles does. "You ask difficult questions. Ones I have no intention of answering." Slender fingers do not falter in their sewing. Heracles watches all the fine bracelets and rings jostle only slightly as the god makes his stitches. "For that, I must apologise."
Heracles snorts, dismissive and looks out into Hylas' fire, "You lot have never cared to inconvenience me before. What is one more disappointment to add to pile?"
A grim smile dances at the edge of his painted lips, "What, indeed."
"If you aren't here to answer my prayers, then you must have another errand for me." And doesn't that just make his blood boil? Even now, when Hylas' pyre has not yet burnt out, the gods still demand more from him, still drive him harder. He digs his nails into the tooth of the rock they share, hopes it is enough to keep him from laying hands on his divine slave-driver's throat and ripping it right out. "Make it quick. Even you must understand the rules of mourning."
Phoebus Apollo's smile widens. He ties off his thread and cuts the excess length with the side of his fingernail. "On the contrary, I've come bearing a gift." Unfurling the length of cloth reveals a gorgeous chamlys, etchings like constellations dotting its dark length and shimmering even in the firelight. "A gift and a word of warning"
Heracles swallows thickly, such rich cloth would surely need to be hidden from his cousins. "If you think a fancy cloak is enough to gloss everything over -"
A laugh, soft and musical. Lighter than Hylas' chuckles, sweeter even than Megara's hidden giggles. How dangerous. How lovely. "Alcides, be calm. I have nothing to hide and there is nothing you could possibly give to me. You already have my gratitude for not harming my offspring, it would please me greatly if you also accepted my boon."
"The cloth is hexed?" It feels no different from a usual chamlys, maybe just a bit softer. Phoebus Apollo laughs again, richer this time so that it resonates in the very base of Heracles' bones and sends little electric sparks shooting all across his body.
"Indeed. It will keep you hidden from the eyes of the Lord and Lady of the Underworld. Do take it with you when next you set foot in their kingdom."
A terrible chill slithers down his back. Hylas' fire pops. "What's the meaning of this?" And Heracles forgets himself, digs his hands into the lush fabric of the god's chiton and wrests him close, "You think it's funny delivering my funeral gown now? When Hylas' body hasn't even cooled?"
Phoebus Apollo hums, brilliant eyes gazing calmly up at him, "I think it should be a great boon if ever your spirit wishes to wander in the great fields of Asphodel should you make the trip."
#cutting myself off there because like I would genuinely just paste the whole damn thing in there#I love pretty much ALL the dialogue in this piece but like I said I have no idea what to do with it#ginger answers asks#ginger writes#There's like zero market for Apollo/Heracles content cause afaik no one really thinks about them together#which like y'know demonstrably crazy to me considering how close the greeks thought they were#yes this is me acknowledging the alt geminis like Apollo and Heracles and Triptolemus and Iasion#but no to me Apollo and Heracles are the true counterparts#like Apollo and Heracles is what people think Apollo and Achilles is I said what I said#this whole idea of Apollo having heart to hearts with Heracles throughout his labours is one that is very self indulgent#and very comforting to me#anyway TEEHEE THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME BLABBER#definitely much longer than a snippet but I'm justifying it by saying that it was two prompts in one š¤§#apollo#heracles#writing#greek myth writing

Days of Color
By: Eliz Elai
*Inhales* Now folks, there's three possibilities on this post.
1. It will reach many people and go like a breeze and I don't have any headaches.
2. It will reach many people but I get destroyed in the comments and I get in trouble.
3. This post will be a total flop, and I will be sobbing on the floor over the hundred words I put into this.
But I don't really care that much, so I'll go ahead and say my words for this event.
Days of Color (formerly Days of Rainbow) can stand for many things. Now it's pretty obvious that it's the Sky counterpart for Pride Month because of the same date they occur, and profits made by Days of Color goes to The Trevor Project (basically suicide prevention to LGBTQIA+ people).
But we all know that Sky tries to be inclusive as much as possible, they never really stick to one meaning or goal only. THEY CAN'T EVEN ESTABLISH A PROPER CONCRETE LORE (*angry theorist noises*)š¤¬. And that's why the Events in Sky - despite being based on real life holidays never outright stuck to it.
Days of Love can be Valentines or Friendship Day. Days of Feast can be just a winter holiday or Christmas. Days of Bloom can reference Easter or Spring Equinox. And many more that I'm too tired to write.
Now the two real life equivalents of Days of Color are Pride Monthš³ļøāš and Holi (Color Festival) from Indiaš®š³. But it also celebrates diversity and friendship and every other meanings. In fact that's why the name was changed from "Rainbow" to "Color" so it can be more inclusive to everyone. Sky has always tried to be inclusive as possible, since one of the main points of the game is to be a welcoming community featuring diversity. Sky has tried to consider every view of different people across the globe. (Kinda taking the middle ground instead of choosing one side).
So it doesn't matter that much what view or opinions you have on Days of Color
ā¤ļøYou can see it as a symbol of LGBTQIA+, and that's valid.
ā¤ļøYou can see it as a symbol related to religion, and that's valid.
ā¤ļøYou can see it as appreciating the different colors of the world, and that's valid.
ā¤ļøYou can see it as a representation of phenomenons in nature, and that's valid.
ā¤ļøYou can apply your own meaning and that's valid.
It's an open event for people with their interpretation. So uhhh.....*gulp* (ā ć»ā _ā ć»ā ;ā ) telling people that their opinion is not applicable to Days of Color, wouldn't be so correct. And also telling them to stop putting meanings to Days of Color would go against the games values, as Sky actually encourages it. š
But as we all know these human meanings are just figments of emotional imagination and rainbows are nothing but a phenomenon caused by the bending and refraction of light. š (Humans are silly delusional creatures that like putting meanings into things. āŗļø)
But yeahhh... throwing a fit whenever someone has an opinion on rainbows (or Sky) is pointless. Both of you can't be right or wrong, since rainbows themselves never stood up for anything (cuz it ain't alive obviously lol), and Sky has always been an open world - with the only main messages being friendship and kindness. ā¤ļøš§”ššš©µššš©·

Thank you SO MUCH for all your comments!! It all means a lot to me and Iām honored because of your perspective. My heart is so warmed šš
Iām kinda crying too honestly, because I know that struggle too. Itās an ongoing struggle. I canāt believe it took me this long to remember this detail but, when I did and saw itās possible significances for the show, I cried a bit in between writing all this down. Figment is a very beloved character and heās been around for so many years, and connecting what he is to where he appears in ST is bone-chilling in a great way! Like you said, we and the characters just want to be free!
Iām also so glad you like Figment too! Heās an oddball of a character and seems childish, but heās honestly very wise because of his mindset. Heās full of mischief and heās silly, even stubborn, but he wouldnāt hurt anyone and heās simply free. And he encourages others to be free with their thoughts too. Itās what makes him a perfect queer icon!! You read it correctly; in recent years, Figment is becoming more and more of a gay icon for fans and it makes a lot of sense! He can represent anyone who is LGBTQ because he is so unrestricted! He doesnāt care about rules that bind you and, again, is simply free because imagination should be free!
I JUST remembered something I shouldāve included in my post!! Iāll have to make a separate one to properly include it but you will love it!! Itās going to relate to Figment being used as possible queer-coding in ST (I wouldnāt be surprised!) and links to Willās ācreationā theory!!
Thank you again, so so much, for your incredibly kind words for me! I appreciate you very much!! And itās never too late for acquaintance; we communicate a lot now! Itās wonderful to know you, Lili! My name is Cassi! ššāŗļø
Disneyās Figment in the Bingham house: A Symbol of Breaking Convention
Ep6 of S4, titled āThe Dive,ā contains the Bingham house segments. We are well aware of how symbolism, foreshadowing, parallels and more for the show and itās characters fills this house to the brim. Metaphorically, there is so much to dive intoāto uncoverāregarding this house. This includes a Disney World Figment the dragon plush doll sitting below Suzieās window.
Figment is Epcotās (one of the four Disney World Orlando parks) mascot. Figment himself is meant to be the literal embodiment of the phrase āfigment of the imagination,ā which matches Epcotās brand of innovation. Basically, donāt let a figment (an idea or thought) of the mind stay in the mind; bring it into reality. I was working in Epcot when Stranger Things 4 aired, funnily enough in whatās called the Land Pavilion, which is directly beside an attraction called Journey Into Imagination with Figment.
In Journey Into Imagination, you sit on a slow-moving compartment that takes you through the āImagination Instituteā on an open house tour led by a character called Dr. Nigel Channing. Heās the chairman of this institute that researches and develops technological innovation in ways to harness the power of creativity. This research is what led to the discovery of Figment (in lore, not the ride).
Now, as I mentioned above, Figment does not simply represent imagination; he is imagination literally, completely unrestrained and unwilling to yield in his sense of creativity despite being told to stop causing [harmless] chaos by Nigel.
While Nigel is enthusiastic in sharing the instituteās discoveries with the public (you, on this tour, and his goal is to stimulate your creativity through the five senses in order for you to harness your creativity), he is constantly voicing his wariness and disapproval of Figmentās mischievous but still harmless insistence to share his perspective throughout the tour (Figment expresses his tests/experiments/thoughts through song; I will explain momentarily because this is important). However, as you approach the rideās end, Nigel has a change of mind. Nigel at first states āimagination must be captured and controlled.ā Figment promptly replies, āNuh-uh! Imagination works best when itās set free!ā
Soon enough, Figment figuratively and literally turns everything upside down. Because, as Nigel learns, āImagination is the act of turning your thinking upside down!ā
I mentioned Figment expresses his creativity through song, along with key pieces of dialogue that challenge your basic understanding of the senses (sight and hearing especially stand out). Rather than post the entire song and itās dialogue, these are moments of intrigue I strung together:
FIGMENT: Itās not about listening with your earsāitās about listening with your imagination.
For every sound your ears are hearing,āØA thousand thoughts can start appearing.āØAnd each of us imagines different things,āØFrom just a sound, your mind has wings!
DR. NIGEL CHANNING: Continuing now, if I may, in a calm, scientific, Figment-free mannerāthe things we see with our eyes can control the eyes of the imagination. Letās begin by using the eye chart to test your vision.
FIGMENT: With F-I-G-M-E-N-T,āØYou can see things differently!
Sure, you can see with your eyes. But imagine what you could see if you used your imagination!
One spark of light can light your fancy.āØYour mind sees more than what your eyes see.āØYour sense of sight can make your fancy fly.āØThereās more to sight than meets the eye!
ā¦
DR. NIGEL CHANNING: Figment, what is going on? Youāre turning this entire open house upside down!
FIGMENT: Upside down? Now youāre talkinā!
With just a spark of inspiration,
Iāve made my house an innovation.
Imagination really clowns around:
Makes downside up, and upside down!
- after change of mind -
FIGMENT: A dream can be a dream come true. With just that spark from me and you.
DR. NIGEL CHANNING:
One little spark of inspiration
Is at the heart of all creation.
Right at the start of everything thatās new,
One little spark lights up for you.
-
Thereās a lot to unpack here, but the first thing to take from all this is the importance of freeing your mind. Not just freeing your mind, but placing no restrictions upon yourself! Hear and see and be beyond the surface to open your perspective! All it takes is a spark of something newāsomething that could bring new light to you. To more than just yourself as well. Figment isnāt just imagination incarnate; he is non-conforming freedom.
In bringing this around to ST, this requires a dive through some ideas Figment could be associated with. Thereās more than one meaning or foreshadowing we can grab from Figment in-frame.
The first association that comes to mind is Will and Mike. Will and Mike getting together and the GA reacting. Byler is in motion right now and thereās a desire from certain parts of the GA to control itāto stop this āharmful chaos,ā so to say. They want restriction on this āway of thinking,ā refusing to open up their minds to more and understanding how harmless it is for same-sex couples to exist. To people like this, who think so shortly, they believe queerness should be a figment of the imagination that never exists. But queerness does exist, queer people do exist, and itās the opposing parts of the GA who havenāt freed their minds from restriction not acknowledging that truth. One spark of something newāa new āsparkā/perspective to turn your thoughts upside downāis what can lead someone to understanding othersā differences. I donāt have to go into detail as to why āforced conformity is killing the kidsā is such a vastly important line in Stranger Things.
But who else controls and restricts? Henry. He wants the world adapted to his mindset, his ideal, and heās incapable of viewing any other perspective other than his own at this point. He tried to manipulate El into joining him and attempted to kill her when she wouldnāt. He bent what we know as the Mind Flayer to his whims, controlling it and using it to further control others. Now, we can gather that Henry wants Will to meet that standard of control in whatever way Henry intends to use him for. To possibly control Willās powers.
If we take Dr. Nigelās lyric āOne little spark of inspiration is at the heart of all creationā and apply it to Will, this may align with the theory that Will created the current version of the Upside Down on the night he was kidnapped. Unintentionally perhaps, unknowing of what was happening to him in the moment and horribly shaken, something āsparkedā in Willās mind that allowed him to reshape the UD to what weāre familiar withāmaybe to what Will was familiar with.
From the tons of analysis weāve undergone since S4 aired, we can infer Henry was stalking Will before he took him. Henry sees himself in Will and preys on him to accomplish what he couldnāt with El, and from that it isnāt hard to consider Will has powers Henry wants to manipulate. I currently have thoughts that Will could be multi-powered (like a wizard), and creation abilities would tie well into this idea. It could explain the frozen-in-time Hawkins appearance. Creation and imagination are tied to artistry, and that would be an on-the-nose alignment for Will. Will takes a blank canvas and paintsācreates what his mind sees. Henry took the canvas of the unspoiled UD and started creating what he wants it to be. And if Will had an effect on Henryās creation, if Will could have a greater effect on what Henry further intends to create, Henry would aim to harness all Will can do and make the upside down his downside up.
HOWEVER. The controlling way Henry thinks will be undone by our characters needing to think outside-of-the-box, breaking out of Henryās mould and standard. And I analyze this by linking the shot of Figment in Suzieās roomā
āto Mikeās Rubikās cube and bedsheets in S1 + Mikeās blanket fort in S2.
How? Color theory, web/gridgate, my rubikscubegate, and the mere presence of Figment. Figment is non-conforming freedom, an unrelenting force who strives to make anything possible. This includes breaking the standard of Dr. Nigel, who formerly believed imagination/thoughts should be controlled. My Rubikās cube theory, which I recommend checking out here if you havenāt and are interested in greater details on it, discusses how Mikeās Rubikās cube is a grid in and of itself. The colors we see directly on it are yellow, blue, and orange. I thought it was red at first, but itās definitely orange. We know to associate Will with yellow and Mike with blue, but weāre missing our other primary color red: El. We see groupings of these three colors quite a lot, and yet red is missing here.
Or is it? Just as we know who to associate with yellow and blue, we know Mike and Will together are green. To make orange, you need red and yellow. El is included on the cube but combined with Will. We even see a square on Mikeās fort that is half yellow and orange (along with half blue&green and half blue&yellow squares; all three of these squares are near Mikeās headāhis brain). And because this Rubikās cube is solved and we can assume Mike did it, my theory is that Mike will be the one to figure out how they will defeat Henry. And for Mikeās strategy to work, Will and El need to team up specifically, as well as Will and Mike. The Rubikās cubeās color scheme directly correlates to the grids and color schemes on Mikeās bedsheets and fort: Yellow, Blue, Y + B = Green, Red, and R + Y = Orange. You can get all these colors on their own or through combination on the cube and sheets.
And in this shot too.
Figment against the blue and yellow wall, under the orange window sill and yellow curtains with blue trimā¦ and there outside is green.
Green, outside the conventional box.
What makes this theory stronger is this series of words and character placement before and after seeing the above shot with Figment:
āMake sure to give that selfish shit a nice little shove for me.ā
*Cue Mike at the front, looking atāthroughāthe window first, piecing together the answer.
āGive [him] a shove.ā
We know Mike has been targeted by Henry, and Mike is going to suffer because of Henry. But Henry is also going to suffer because of Mike. Mike will figure him out and create a planāthrough a spark of inspiration, if you willāthat breaks Henryās web of entrapments with a strategy that requires El, Will, and himself to work. And, ultimately, the final keys to Henryās defeat are Will and Mike themselves.
(Taken from my 7+7gate post, with the perfect additions from @stranger-chichka and @lilitblaukatz)
(Picture credits and thoughts to @stranger-chichka.)
Henryās way of thinking is going to get turned upside down and obliterated, by individuals who aim beyond controlled conformity and fight to set themselves free.
For Will and Mike, they will realize their own āsparkā (hello āAre Friends Electric?ā) is what will set them free from withholding themselves.
And itās something the GA will hopefully come to understand: Why this sense of freedom from society-placed restriction is so important for Will and Mike and the people they represent. In turning their thinking upside down and seeingāreally seeingāthe other side, more conventional standards may break.
