I’ve brought it up a bunch already, but it bears repeating since the story itself is taking great pains to emphasize it, but in One Piece the sea = freedom. During Robin’s flashback her dream was to go to sea with her mom. Saul told her that she’d find friends who loved her at sea, and when she said she wanted to live she specifically said she wanted to go to sea. Usopp’s it ain’t hell speech mentioned it, and now the Straw Hat’s ultimate salvation will be the sea.

It will be interesting if Oda does anything with this going forward as the sea specifically rejects Devil Fruit users, but reconciling those two concepts will have to be figured out later once the final lore for the Devil Fruits is finally revealed.

And now we have the addition of Nico Olivia. Much like Robin in the true cannon she joins the ew after they defeat Crocodile, and Ace saves her life.

She starts journeying with the crew. And I know we always kinda poke fun at Robin and her gaggle of teenagers but Olivia is really signed up for mom duty. In the beginning she’s holding back waiting for the day she will have to leave but part of her loves it. Loves seeing her young crewmates run around the boat and think what she could have had with her daughter.

Olivia went out on her journey to study the lost century. And just like in cannon she was caught. Saul frees her and they rush back to Ohara but it’s to late. The Buster call is already over. The islands is destroyed and daughter is dead. Since she escaped from prison she is still wanted by the government and spend the next 20 years running with three goals.

To complete Ohara’s goal of discovering the true history

To take out as many marines along the way as she can

To find her daughters devil fruit. The only thing that still exists that could connect her to her daughter.

Over the years it got harder for her to keep going. She is making very little progress on the first goal. But she has found Robin’s devil fruit and with it has been doing a good job and accomplishing goal 2. But it’s lonely and she misses her home and her daughter more than anything. She ready to give up when Crocodile stabs her. Only for Ace to save her.

Ace who knows exactly what it’s like to want to die. Ace who’s reason to live is a sunny boy in a straw hat still in the East blue.

Ace saves her and tells her to find someone ti live for. Neither of them knew that that someone would be himself and the rest of his crew. Olivia’s new family. Her new stupid son. (Ace gets to hang with a mom guys!)

They still do the Skyla trip but they don’t meet Blackbeard. No he’s coming later.

Instead they make their way to water 7. Their ship needs to be replaced, it’s taken a beating and Kaya doesn’t take it well. Not to the point of challenging Ace for the ship but it hurts. This was her gift to the crew. She’s not a good fighter (yet) she’s stronger then she was but that’s pitiful to rest of the crew. She’s the youngest and weakest member, the momey she brought with her has all been used. The only claim she has to being helpful is that she gave them the ship. The ship they are getting rid of.

Like I said I don’t think it gets to Luffy and Usopp’s fight but there’s a lot of hurt. It helps that Hirikul is there and as an older and more experienced member he’s able to help keep tension down. (I also think he and Kaya would be close with her training under him as a doctor)

I would love to expand on this if anyone wants it

But of course they need a new ship. And Olivia is missing and everything’s a mess. And to add insult to injury the whole town thinks they’re trying to assassinate mayor Tom.

And his son/apprentice Iceburg won’t let that kind of threat go unpunished.

In the past when Franky’s ships attacked Water 7 and Tom, Iceburg, and Franky got arrested for it. Franky thought about all the harm he had caused and how Iceburg always told him to take responsibility for his actions. When Tom tried to take the blame for the ship attack Franky cut him off. Telling the judge he planned the whole thing. That it was his fault. He didn’t think the Judge would pardon Tom so he thought if he got ride of the Judge Tom would be free.

No one believes him. Tom and Iceburg are kicking up a storm to deny Franky’s involvement and Spandam is fuming because this was his plan to get Tom not this kid. But the Judge doesn’t want to take Tom. This whole thing is fishy and the boy just gave him an out. A stupid self sacrificing out. But an out. Shame what will happen to the boy though. So the Judge passes Judgement on Franky and he is taken away to be executed.

Tom and Iceburg lose it but Franky just tells them not to blow it for him. It’s his decision. After all he’s finally take ownership for his creations, even if it means his death he will never deny they were his ships. (Tom would be so proud if he wasn’t losing his son)

Ever since Spandam has had it out for Tom and Iceburg. Tom because the leader of water 7 with Iceburg as his right hand man. Running both the ship yards and then demo (this would version of the Franky family) businesses

When Ace’s crew gets blamed for trying to kill Tom Iceburg goes after them with his loyal employees. If only all of them were loyal.

Long story short it’s Iceburg who joins the crew as a shipwright.

Again I’ll totally expand on this if you ask.

I’m getting to thriller bark soon so you’ll have to wait for Brooks story.

But after the pick up one bone man they run into an old friend of Ace’s.

Whitebeard.

Whitebeard who wants all of them to join his crew.

Ace is tempted so tempted. But then he looks at his friends.

Kuina can’t chase her dream if their crew is not actively striving for the top. Whitebeard is already at the top of the game. The only step up is pirate king and Kuina wouldn’t be on the mainship pushing forward she would be shuffled into whatever commander need her.

Nojiko hates most pirates. She was okay sailing with them because they were a different kind of pirate. But would she be comfortable with whatever crew she ended up with?

Kaya is still learning. Being with the Whitebeard crew might be safer for her as it gave more protection. But she didn’t come out her to be safe she came out to start a new life and have adventures with her new friends

Reiju doesn’t want the crew to split up. She seems to have a hard time with being left alone. Something Ace can understand.

Hiriluk will do what Ace needs them to do (they all will) but he would far prefer staying together. He needs to train Kaya. He needs to keep his new children safe. (He already failed Tony Tony Chopper he won’t fail again)

Olivia just started feeling safe with them. How do they know no one on the Whitebeard crew will betray her?

Iceburg is here for HIS ship to sail around the world and he trusted THIS crew not a bunch on strangers.

(I find the fact that Ace’s crew got spread out among the Whitebeard pirate quite sad. I wish they could have gone with him on his failed mission)

In the end Ace turns him down (he’s got a mom and a dad on his crew) after all how can Ace surpass him and take his place if he’s working for him. Beside how can Ace support any other king of the pirate besides his little brother.

But they do form an alliance. And that’s how they roll for three years. Exploring the grandline, getting stronger, dipping their toes into the new world but not fully committing yet.

Until someone is ready to set sail.

Until someone betrays Whitebeard and almost injures Ace’s crew in the process

Until someone finds out that new pirate is related to the head of the revolutionary army.

Please ask about this I have so many ideas.

One Piece Chapter 1133 - Initial Thoughts

And we're back again

Grateful the scans came out today this time around, if it were tomorrow I'd have to wait till Sunday evening since I've got relatives to visit and such, it is that time of year

But today is One Piece day, so it's time to check what the chapter has to offer now that we've properly set down in Elbaf

Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release too

And the big reveal for the sword thief in Yamato's cover story is...Holdem...the guy Luffy could beat with ease

Tama is captured again and Speed was caught by a fire attack by Kamijiro (the lion head with the same name as the MHA ship that I like ¬_¬)

Seems like Speed always seems to catch strays in Wano too, and where tf is Shinobu? Not like Yamato should struggle with him, in fact Tama should be showing the fruits of her training by not getting caught

The actual chapter begins with a flashback of Ohara, the evacuation ship exploding

But the narration is a forgery, Spandine speaking to the media to pin it on young Robin

A cruel montage follows to remind us that Robin's childhood was rife with cruelty and sadness, being called so many things that were the opposite of who she truly was

Also a reminder how media controls the court of public opinion, random people wishing death upon a child

The reason for this flashback though also reminds us of the things Saul told her - as if we could forget - which is also present

We also see a scene of Robin checking a book of the world, with Ohara no longer marked in position, she writes it in herself but gets grabbed

Back in the present, anchors drop on the Great Eirik as the crew - likely the ones who never went to Skypeia - marvel at the sea of clouds

As they anchor on the western port they have a heart welcome waiting for them

Lilith and Bonney having the same happy pose is cute

Luffy and Co also sail down, with a unique longboat of their own

The ship uses island clouds on its paddles to row through the air, which is quite ingenious

It's called the Svalr which means 'cool' in ancient Norse, in terms of temperature, but may also be a nod to Svalinn, the legendary Norse Shield that blocks the sun enough to protect the realms form its intense heat

Seems Elbaf also has consistently perfect climate, which it seems Vegapunk was probably working on with their temperature regulation in Egghead

Lilith also marvels at the coexistence of technology, which does make me feel like she may stay here

Nami makes a note of Robin's haircut, having expected her to do something like it

Luffy also reunites with Hajrudin - who also still calls Usopp 'Usoland' XD - as he's introduced properly to the New Giant Warrior Pirates

Rodo is at the back chained and crucified, as even Hajrudin omits him from the numbers

Luffy does remind them that he didn't want subordinates, but Hajrudin reminds him back that it's their choice to make

He also praises Luffy for making emperor, noting that news of Big Mom's defeat reached here too

Nami seems curious about singling out Big Mom - especially since Luffy didn't actually beat her, wonder if Kid is indeed here if that'd give him brownie points - as Gerd gives her the short rundown of their familiarity

Yeah cannibalism would be something the overwhelming majority of nations would deem unforgivable...

The rest of the giants are ready to feast though, and Luffy is happy to oblige

Before they rush off however Robin asks Luffy, which snaps them back on the Svalr

Robin wanted to go meet Saul and was happy to go alone, but Luffy is insistent and the crew want to come too

With Gerd steering, she tells the crew that Saul did want to show Robin the library

Luffy's reasonings are pure, feeling honour bound to meet someone who looked after a member of his Nakama - Robin does wonder where he got that sentiment but it's more a matter of Luffy's character

Also Bonney's along for the ride, Robin's taken over the paternal warmth figure for her in the meantime

Hajrudin and Broggy agree to prep and delay the feast for their return, as they intend to bring Saul back with them

Usopp asks about how learned the giants are, as Gerd reveals that Saul is their history teacher but also teaches them about certain books

Interesting to think that upon his debut he regarded Elbaf giants as savages

The group arrive at 'Warrior Springs' another marvelous landscape with waterfalls, near it is the 'Owl Library'

The springs was formed from broken parts of Treasure Tree Adam, which means that the tree does break off naturally, wonder if that's the parts that make up the Sunny?

Luffy is ready to charge in, but Nami holds him back, noting that this is Robin's thing

Alas, she hears what we heard two chapters ago, Saul's fallen and won't get up

Luffy, Sanji and Usopp are annoyed by the twist of fate, while Chopper goes straight into doctor mode

Saul's body is seen by the beach, but Robin only laughs to herself and says she'll go to him alone

It's just like how they first met, cowboy hat and all beached up

Once again he screams upon her approach, failing to scare her once more

It's still surreal this guy is alive after 22 years, very noticeable scars on his face

Saul was playing, unsure of how to break the ice so choosing this way

Robin notes he has the same funny laugh too

Saul joins the group of peg-legs with Aokiji, Shiki, Inuarashi and Zeff, probably snapped off from the ice

Saul pulls Robin up close to get a good look at her, noting that she looks like Olvia - prompting Robin to remember her mother

Saul asks if she heard Vegapunk's broadcast, she heard bits but confirmed the rest via newspapers, since she was kinda in the thick of it

Saul notes that Vegapunk spoke of Ohara's legacy, the voices that were intended to be silenced, and commends their sacrifice for doing so

Robin however notes his scars, reminding him of his own sacrifices

Seems Saul survived by the fires of Ohara melting his ice and sweeping him into the water

We've seen Aokiji freeze parts of an ocean that stay frozen for a month, honestly I doubt that Saul just happened to defrost and fall into the water

He goes on a little rant about the negative press Robin got, but Robin stops him and asks if he's gonna praise her for being alive

Pressed against him in a big hug, Saul does just that, praising her for staying alive for 22 years, for being a survivor and being glad they could meet again

Robin breaks down in the hug, and from afar so does the crew barring Luffy, Jinbe and Zoro

and we end the chapter on a smiling Luffy, but also a break

Not much you can say about that chapter other than it being nice and sweet. There were of course hesitations that Saul's survival would slightly undermine Robin's struggle but having someone who was there from her past tell her that they're proud of her for enduring is quite the catharsis.

There has to be more to come with Saul since he's yet to meet the friends he foretold would be there for Robin, it's also quite symbolic that this rings true even for meeting up with Saul, they didn't let her go alone - Luffy, low on energy and hungry, delayed a feast with giants so that Robin didn't have to go alone! That's how big a deal it is to them. Also this will be another D. for Luffy to meet.

We're getting small bits here and there of Elbaf's worldbuilding too, there are some loose threads to deal with in Elbaf and with the crew - such as Kuma, what to do with Bonney and Lilith, Vivi's secret message etc. - but for now we can let things be nice until shit hits the fan.

To think, almost a year ago we were bawling about Kuma's backstory, now we're tearing up for Saul and Robin's reunion.

Family Dinner

It was time. The day that Franky dreaded most was here. Nothing Franky could do to change this. Robin and he have been dating for a while. He is even planning on asking her to marry him. But, in order to do that, something had to happen. Their families had to meet.

“You’re not freaking out again, are you?” Robin asked, watching him fiddle with his shirt again.

Franky knows that he’s being silly. Robin met his family. She loves them. They love her. Iceberg even told him not to lose this one. Tom told him to keep falling in love. It was all so sweet. Kokoro even sent Robin gifts for Christmas. Yokozuna would smile at her and help her around. Franky knew Robin was amazing. The fact his family loved her only helped that idea.

Franky met her family. Which was intimidating, to say the least. First, Robin’s mother is a well-known scholar. With over 200 Theseus papers to her name, and several awards. Then there is Robin’s Grandfather. Who has more awards and theseus papers to his name? There are books on the man’s academic career. Thankfully, Franky had something to lean back on. Robin’s step father Saul, a kind man. Franky thought Saul was like him. Until he found out about all the military awards and garden awards. Saul is more proud of the garden awards.

“This is a big deal. What if they don’t like each other?” Franky muttered. He didn’t want to do two Christmases every year. Franky wanted to host dinner and BBQs. To invite both sides to come eat and laugh with them. If they hated each other, that wouldn’t happen. Nothing good would happen.

Robin laughed, hugging him tightly. “You worry too much. Everything is going to be fine.” Even with the hug, Franky wasn’t sure.

Taking a deep breath, he opened the door. Iceberg stood outside and smiled at him. “Hey,”

Franky sighed a bit. “Hey.” Before moving aside, letting him in.

“Tom told me to bring this. In case you were freaking out.” Iceberg said, handing over a bottle of wine. It was Tom’s favorite, one so expensive that they only drink it on special occasions. A small token, telling Franky how special today was.

“When will he be here?” Franky asked, looking out onto the road.

Iceberg huffed, “When you invited him. Why did you ask me to come early?”

“That was me,” Robin said, walking over to them. “I thought a little back up would help.” Iceberg nodded, having somehow understood that. Franky, on the other hand, was still freaking out.

Both Robin and Iceberg pulled Franky to the kitchen. Where they got dinner ready. “How are you going to host dinners if you get this worked up?” Iceberg asked. Seeing how many small mistakes Franky was doing. It was getting to be a little silly.

“I have no idea what you mean.” Franky said, ignoring the way that Robin laughed at him. The door bell chimed. Franky could almost not breath.

“Relax.” Iceberg said, elbowing him. Franky glared back when Saul, Olvia, and Doctor Clover walked in.

“Hello,” Franky said, sounding more robotic than normal. He was just so scared.

Iceberg rolled his eyes. “You’ll have to excuse him. He’s nervous. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Iceberg, Franky’s brother.” He said, stretching his hand out. Saul took it and shook it. “Nice to meet you. I’m Saul. Robin’s stepdad.”

“You can just say Dad,” Robin said, smiling at her mother. It might be hard for her, but Saul was the only father she knew.

Doctor Clover stepped forward. “Hello, Am I right to assume you are the Iceberg of the ship wight association?”

Iceberg smiled more, glancing at Franky with an ‘I told you so.’ Look. “I am. Shall we talk more inside?” He said, leading Clover to the table. The two talking about the practical use of something. Franky couldn’t keep upright now.

Saul and Olvia joining them at the table. Both seem to be listening. Adding small questions here and there. “So far, so good,” Robin said. Full confidence that they would get along. About ten minutes later Kokoro, and Tom showed up. Both are cheerful.

“Good evening!” Tom boosted, as he introduced himself. Kokoro was just as loud.

“So tell us,” Olvia said, “What is the most embarrassing thing Franky used to do?”

“Mom,” Robin warned.

Tom laughed at the question, though. “He used to hate pants. Still does, but he’s willing to wear them for a time. We could hardly get the boy to wear them.” The table laughed a bit. Though Franky was blushing a bit right now. He wasn’t all that embarrassed by it. It was just overwhelming right now.

“What about Robin?” Kokoro asked, leaning forward.

Saul took his turn to lean in just as close. “She used to read horror books. Claiming to not be scared. Then I would walk up to find her watching us with tears running down her face. She was so scared, but too proud to wake us up.” He told them.

Robin laughed along with them. “I wasn’t scared,” she said, though no one believed her. Which was fine, because she was lying.

“Iceberg used to do something like that. Though his was with horror movies.” Tom said, making Iceberg stop. A slight red forming on Iceberg’s face.

“Oh, I remember that!” Kokoro said, “He is watching it in the other room, and screamed so loud!”

They laughed. “Why are we making fun of me? I thought this was pick on the couple night!” Iceberg said, though he wasn’t too mad.

Over all it was a great night. Franky didn’t have to worry at all. Even when things changed and more family was added, things were good. Luffy ate more than his fill, but Sanji and Zef helped make more. Franky and Robin smiled, looking out over their family, found and otherwise. “Is it everything you wanted?” Robin asked, holding his hand.

“And more,” Franky answered.

Late to valentines day, but consider queer platonic strawhats.

Luffy, upon hearing about Valentine's Day ((Makino would likely have told him a bit about it as a child, but it got forgotten amidst the trees and critters and love and family and also trauma of living ten years in the woods with criminals and bandits as his company)) goes absolutely APESHIT. A day devoted to LOVE?? HECK YEAH SIGN HIM UP!!!! HE LOVES HIS FRIENDS SO MUCH!!!

Robin, Ussop, Chopper and he all settle across the deck and make crafts. Luffy is very much more focused than usual, both bc Hands Moving, Colors and Glitter Good, and also bc this is IMPORTANT so he's doing his absolute best.

He makes a card for every person on his crew. He also makes stuff for his friends all over, addressed to them by name. He can't send them, not really, because it's hard to remember the addresses (Nami helps with some of those), so the ones he can't send properly (Shanks, Buggy, Boa, etc) he throws into the ocean.

((There's a quiet moment after nightfall when he's sitting on the figurehead, holding a card he worked Extra Hard On. It's addressed to Ace, and Luffy isn't one to really... be sad. He tries not to be. He's worried about seeming weak.

The crew definitely caught on, though. Nami steps up to him, puts a hand on his shoulder. Tugs him back to the deck. She leads him by hand towards the center, where the other's are waiting. Franky is beaming.

He made a little lantern like device. It has a little pocket, and it floats up and up and up, "all the way to the heavens," he exclaims proudly. Nami mentions sending a letter to Bellemere. Chopper has one for Hiriluk. Ussop has one for his mom, Sanji for his own, Zoro to Kuina, Robin to Saul, Brook to the Rumbars, Franky to Tom. Jimbei carries a few, but merely smiles softly at Luffy.

He tries not to cry as they all load up their letters, but he feels better when the only response people have to the wetness on his face is a brief touch or side hug.

It's bittersweet, but somehow he feels better than he has in a very long time.

And with his crew around him, supportive and still there, still staying.... well, Luffy didn't think he could love them any harder. Full of surprises, the lot of them.

Late to Valentine's Day too, don't worry 🫶 And I consider Queer Platonic Strawhats every day of my life actually-

This is,,, So beautiful,,, I'm sure Luffy would absolutely love Valentine's Day to celebrate his love for his friends. Maybe Nami and Sanji tell him that's not exactly how it works, because it's supposed to be romantic, but when he asks them "Why, though?" they don't really, uhh, have an answer for that. So turns out their captain is right and they can use this day to celebrate all types of love!

I adore the idea of Luffy writing letters and cards and throwing them into the sea if he can't send them. It's just beautiful. Maybe in a bottle, pirate style. Maybe fate helps him and somehow those letters end up with the correct people. Who knows?

Also, Luffy would be extra clingy the whole day and Sanji would make a huge dinner for everybody. They'd have so much fun and Luffy would just,, Take a moment to look at all of them being happy for a second and he'd go "Now this is what being a pirate should be!" and it makes me really emotional.

Not to mention the Ace thing,, All of them sending their letters to their dead loved ones in the sky? Do you want to make me cry??? Because you're making me cry.

They're precious to me.

Happy to see some Robin discussion and some Post TS Robin love on the dashboard for sure!!

I guess to continue the Robin love, I really love thinking about how at peace she is with the Straw Hats and also how her dream plays into her story and I'm really excited to see how that wraps up for her. I find hers particularly interesting, because it isn't even really HER dream (to know the void century), but she took on the dreams of those who no longer could. I'm sure she had some level of curiosity as a child for sure, but it can really be inferred that a lot of her interest in the Void Century (at first) was her desire to be closer to the Archeologists and her mother specifically. When she meets Saul, she tells him she just really wants to ask her mom to take her to sea, but she knows her mother is traveling in search of the Poneglyphs, so she learned too. At the heart of it, she just wanted to be loved and be with people who loved her, and looking into the Void Century was the means to that end until the Buster Call. Saul told her to find her friends at sea, and she clung to that hope. Her dream turned into carrying the burdens of those lost, rather than her own, but they both kept her going. It wasn't until that moment on the tower where Luffy coaxed it out of her like only he's capable of - she didn't just say she wanted to live, she said she wanted to go out to sea. Robin is now at sea, surrounded by the people who love her, and it really shows through every moment she's in Post TS. I know everyone wants to see her fight more, and I absolutely would never complain about seeing her more, but I find every time she's just in the background smiling to be some of the most rewarding moments for her. Her dream of finding out what happened in the Void Century is going to happen I'm sure, and I feel like it's going to be so interesting regardless, but I personally thing her true dream was fulfilled that day she asked Luffy to take her to sea with the Straw Hats. I could be way off base and wrong, but there's no rule that says you can only have one dream and be done with it - I mean heck, Luffy has two (being the pirate king and the one we don't know). I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have any! Or I'm sorry if I rambled lol. I just love Nico Robin, I'm not sure if you know this...

It's why Zou is one of my favorite arcs honestly. She's so happy. She's so, so happy!!

(Also I am sorry if my reply to a post stoked any hurt for Robin Anon, it's all Robin love here and I understand where both of you were coming from, I should have been more considerate)

BUT! Honestly? I have nothing to add! You summed everything up! Because I also love seeing Robin's happiness these days. I love seeing that she can express herself fully, and that she can find peace and comfort amongst the Strawhats without ever worrying about being stabbed in the back. She truly feels like herself in the timeskip, and truly feels like she's able to find herself and grow into someone so caring and authentic in her love for her family.

Egghead especially was so sweet because...she cried in joy! Not in fear or distress, but in joy! How many times would that have EVER happened to her?! She's really finding so much happiness now and it's warm my heart sm 😭😭

my thoughts are all over the place but here we go

i think with this chapter, it feels like the arc has finally started — which i know is kinda ridiculous to say considering the many many lore drops and stuff that has already happened so far — but things are escalating very rapidly now that all(?) the key players of this arc has shown up!

first of all, loki is free!!! oooohhh he’s gonna be a troublesome fella, isn’t he? i still think he has good intentions, but the way he’s acting right now is definitely not gonna win him any points with the other giants!

but i think the most intriguing part of this chapter is that we finally got a taste of the newly introduced god's knights’ powers. that "fear manifestation" stuff is a whole other level, i’m so excited to learn more!! i think we can assume that was Killingham’s power, but we don’t know anything about Sommers yet.. was he the one who put the kids to sleep or was that part of Killingham’s power too?

(also have i yapped about how much i love Killingham's character design?? because i do, he looks amazing!!)

what kinda stood out to me too was how the badly injured Wolf sensei told Saul to not touch the children. what the hell happened to him?? what would happen if you touch the children?? it's all still so mysterious now!

also these two creatures kinda reminded me of the monsters in the harley mural. i think the harley legend/mural is public knowledge in elbaf, so i guess it wouldn’t be weird if the kids were having nightmares based on those monsters? but i can't help wondering if there's a deeper meaning behind this!

anyway everything is falling apart, but that’s precisely where the fun begins for us readers, right? 😂 the break this week is gonna be haarrddd

Franon / Franronynous / Frobin anon with important addendum: Also debating wether or not Franky in a regular universe has some kind of prosthetic limb, partly because translating his cyborg features like this feels right…. Partly because I want a retelling of the scene of him meeting Usopp and Chopper again after the timeskip playing his robot features up for them… only here it would just him hamming it up for two grade schoolers using various workshop tools and moving like a robot after Usopp tried to mess with Chopper a little and tell him that the guy that looks after him sometimes is a Cyborg, pointing at his prosthetic hand as proof. By the end of it Chopper is hyperventilating because „ROBOOOOT!“ and Usopp is just as hype and forgets about him actually just making up stuff for his friend. Completely bought into his own story now. Franky is a super cool robot man. A super cool robot man that teaches him how to use drills and lets him drink cola after six pm even tough Usopps mom told him „Cola is a sometimes drink sweetie.“ Wow!

… and then Robin walks in and Franky gets just a teeny bit embarrassed because „Oh no my crush caught me being silllllay“ but also not embarrassed enough to stop making silly noises while he gives two kids a piggyback ride or until he has set them down and „Engaged human mode“ again. Robin is about 50 percent stunned, 10 percent impressed, 40 percent weirded out and 200 percent just adoring how her friend is such a goof. Wouldn’t want him an other way. There is no universe out there where she could ever imagine him not playing robot because some kids asked him all starry eyed if he was one.

Ohhh I like "Franonymous"!

I like the idea of Franky having a prosthetic limb, (maybe a leg or two) that he modifies. Like he'll open up his leg in the metro and pull out a snack bar or something and traumatize a random grandma who saw him. Imagine: you're in class and your pen stops working. You turn to Franky to ask for a new one but instead he takes ur old pen, jabs it in his leg and refills it. It might be funny only to me, but I'm taking the risk idc.

Franky flexing to grade schoolers with the little gadgets or just ig birdhouses or idk... stuff he builds is so perfect to me! Usopp is a quick learner and picks up a thing or two from Franky and Chopper is both jealous that he's not allowed (because he's too young) and so enamored by it all.

Franky probably didn't want to let out his "inner super freak" personality at first, like "she can't know I'm a weirdo! She might not want. What if she doesn't like me anymore," but then he's caught being silly as you said, but then she doesn't make fun of him or act disgusted so how he's way more head over heels. Maybe she laughs but not at him, with him. And I absolutely agree, Franky becomes a kid with kids, he's the most fun big bro and even though he looks a bit scary all the kids live him.

I'd also love the idea that Franky realizes that he's completely gone when he finds out Robin is also a weirdo, just an introverted one. Like he'll make her laugh so hard and she'll have the oddest and funniest laugh, or she'll eat pickles with whipped cream or some other abomination like that. She has a really worn-out old shirt that she sais it's her late uncle's (Saul) and that it brings luck. So she'll wear it every game Franky plays in. She'll rarely talk but then you mention history and she'll talk your ear off not even noticing if someone stopped listening.

I'd also like to think that they binge watch historical dramas, drunk history, Hamilton, and then they switch it up with sci-fi - i-robot, robocop, robo kid even... anything that is cyborg/robot related.

11. lunch with pierre

well... it roughly goes the same though there's a few differences such as where the scene takes place, events in between, characters present in the scene. i felt it flowed better in the manga tbh. the anime meanwhile had a lot of filler until it went to this point.

i guess they meant to leave it for later since it's a december holiday? nothing much changed though there's one extra scene with morita and chocolat, gifts from robin, addition of houx and saule etc. maybe the lines for this part below though:

13. new years'

pretty much the same, one obvious difference is that vanilla joins them. also, in the manga, miharu saw chocolat at school and gave her his lollipop... don't think he said anywhere he wanted to marry her either

14. valentines' day

it felt more chaotic in the anime maybe because of the addition of waffle's shenanigans. results were similar to the manga ie. chocolat getting more ecure than vanilla. timeline-wise it's rather different since for the anime, vanilla has yet to join the ogres. manga!vanilla's goal was to give out as many chocolates she could get more ecure than chocolat but anime!vanilla just wanted to share the chocolate with everyone

15. chocolat and mimura

the manga and anime is totally different. the snake was like the only constant + how she feels around mimura ie. she feels that it's fun hanging out with him. while mimura developed romantic feelings for chocolat in the manga, him hanging out with her in the anime was only viewed as friendship.

16. pierre asking chocolat to be queen of the ogres

definitely don't remember this in the manga at all so it's anime-only plot. after pierre's attempt to get chocolat's heart fails in the manga, that was it before he told vanilla some stuff to get her to join the ogres. in the anime, he first attempts to convince chocolat to be queen of the ogres, probably because chocolat still has feelings for him so she'd be easily swayed. side note: i like how we also saw more of glacier in this episode.

17. what made vanilla join the ogres

while one reason is that it stems from her feeling of insecurity to chocolat and that chocolat gets more attention from queen candy than her, pierre's talk with her was the final trigger. in the manga, he hints that she's actually an ogre while in the anime, he emphasises on how she is alone compared to chocolat who is usually surrounded by many people. i presume that they couldn't use the 'vanilla is a ogre' one because in the anime, chocolat has yet to acquire the heart-shaped hair pin and unlock the diary. in addition, vanilla went to confront queen candy about how they were going to make chocolat queen and the selection was just for show. he does talk about the false acacia thing next episode though.

bonus: in this episode, chocolat also runs for student council as urged by her classmates. vanilla also competed for the position at pierre's recommendation and support from the members as well which helped her to win. found a manga panel of chocolat outwardly rejecting to be in the student council

18. when chocolat meets takamura

pierre was the one who cast the jealousy spell on takamura but in the anime, it was vanilla who did it.

in the manga, chocolat decided to give her the raspberries discreetly by leaving them on vanilla's desk as she felt vanilla would reject them. in the anime, chocolat went to seek out vanilla and passed them to her directly. she also attempted to make conversation with vanilla but was promptly shut down.

I just recently caught up on the entirety of the One Piece manga, and wow. One of the best stories told. Some parts are a little shaky, but overall phenomenal narrative. Obviously, it is still on-going, and right now the manga is getting even crazier.

I want to make a post on each of the straw hats, so I am sorry to fill my blog with One Piece content in advance.

The first one I want to start with is Nico Robin because wow does she have an amazing backstory and her introduction to the story is insane. I do have to say I knew who ended up in the crew, but I did not know she was Ms. All Sunday.

I think it is crazy that she is the straw hat that I most relate to. I grew up being surrounded by people but never really having close friends. I found solace in reading and learning random stuff. I am actually the "historian" of my current friend group.

Fast forward to about six years ago when I found my best friend who lets me info dump whatever I want to them, and they don't shame me. Obviously, I never had to run from the government, but I always felt (and still do on occasion) that I am not allowed to live or be who I am. It is why Robin's backstory really resonated with me.

Robin had woken up that day with a contented smile on her face. She had marked her calendar. It was the anniversary of her officially joining the Straw Hats, and every year it was just as emotional as the next. She even examined a photo taken of the crew before they were separated by Kuma with the Paw Paw Fruit.

She had so many emotions on such a day. The fear of what might happen next. The happiness of finally belonging somewhere, someplace as Saul wished and promised. She could hear the man tell her what he told her many years ago. He smiled at her, ice inching over his body... She shook her head. Not now, she told herself. Many people have sacrificed themselves for Robin's sake, and here she was risking her heart breaking again.

She stared in the mirror. She smiled again and formed her lips in the sound of 'she'. She chuckled quietly to herself. "Sheshesheshe..." It was in honor of the man who saved her. Who promised she would find the very people that could protect her, and she, them. It resembled her captain's laughter in a way. Perhaps that was a sign she was in the right place at the time? She chuckled in honor of those who aided her over the years and in thanks to the Straw Hats.

"Shesheshe," she chuckled softly, again. Her eyes were laced with tears. She took a deep breath and wiped her eyes. She was so glad and grateful to find the Straw Hats. She would protect them, and they would protect her. They were nakama after all. She faced the mirror again and smiled. "Thank you, Saul. You believed in me when I couldn't. They also believed." She whispered.

She could hear Nami's call for her from the breakfast table. Luffy was eating all the bacon! She chuckled again, before rushing out and crossing her arms over her chest. "Cinco Fleur," she said and pulled the platter of bacon away from Luffy with her five arms. "Save some for the rest of us."

Nami - they're not sure who Nami's parents are, or if they do they haven't told Vivi or Nami. When Nami was little her older sister said she found her in a plastic bag in a dumpster, when Nami was a little older she learned Nojiko was in the dumpster looking for bedding. As far back as Nami can remember she lived with Bellemere and Bellemere lived in the outskirts of the compound in a house with a million problems even though Nojiko said they could have afforded something nicer if they could leave the compound. Bellemere was killed in their home 10 years ago, since then Nojiko pretty much raised her.

Robin's wanted to escape for a long time but she knows she can't. She was raised by her aunt, then Saul for a while after her aunt tried to kill her and then by her boss when Crocodile started hiring her as a babysitter, then when Luffy was 7 she was old enough to manage on her own. She doesn't have anything particularly negative or positive to say about her home life as a child, she misses Saul though.

I decided to combine all of my Robin and Ace posts into one. I wanted to put all of my thoughts together, change some things up and add on some additional thoughts that weren't in the previous posts.

Pretty long post ahead, so beware.

(The moment that each of them fully realized that they are loved).

I think about the two of them so often it's not even funny anymore. they're so different in so many interesting ways and yet so painfully similar.

The Son of Roger and Demon Child; hated by all from a young age for crimes they didn't even commit and feared for what people believe they had the potential to become, rather than what they really were. But the way the world saw them wasn't the only thing that they had in common. They also viewed themselves in a very similar way to each other, but handled it in drastically different ways.

Robin was stuck believing what she's been told her entire life, that she was a demon who didn't deserve to live and that her simply being alive was a sin or crime in itself. People treated her as though all her worth came from what she could do, rather than who she was as a person. If she wanted food, shelter, or even companionship she had to work for it, nothing ever came for free for her. Everything had a price. Not only that, but the second they learned of who she was, they would turn on her without fail. From a young age she was all but taught that she would be betrayed again and again no matter what. Trust wasn't something she was allowed to have.

And until she met the Strawhats, she had no choice but to believe these sentiments, because no one has ever tried to tell her otherwise. Saul's words were like a far off dream that she never had hope of obtaining. She was well and truly alone for more than half of her life. So, she didn't even let herself believe she deserved to want to live. She was ultimately a was too afraid to allow herself this hope. She was scared of being betrayed again by people she had grown to love. She would rather die in silence and leave behind the image of a cold-hearted killer than allow the crew to save her, because she fully believed that they too would inevitably betray her as well regardless of the amount of love she had for them.

But she does want to live. She wants to be happy and sail the seas, learning about everything the world has to offer. She wants to be part of a family, she wants to love and be loved in return. After joining the crew, after they went through all the pain and effort of saving her simply because they loved her, she finally allowed herself to be vulnerable and express her desire to live. She even goes so far as ask for as much, she begs to live. She silently begs to be loved.

She later even embraces her demon title and flips it on those who hurt her, allowing herself to be become a devil who can protect what is precious to her. She loves fiercely and is loved fiercely in return

As for Ace, he has been told since he was young that being Roger's son pretty much made his existence a crime and that he was incapable of being loved, just like Robin. He had to be hidden away since infancy simply because of who his father was. Like Robin, he internalized all of the horrible things said to him to the point that he found his own bloodline to be 'rotten' and questioned whether or not it was a good thing he was ever born.

He also embraced the title of monster, but in a very, very different way. He placed very little value on his life and even admitted with his dying breaths that he likely wouldn't have stayed alive as long as he did if not for Luffy and Sabo. He fully subscribed to the idea that he was a monster whose blood was rotten, had resigned himself to the fact that he should die because of it. He kept his self hatred under wraps and never really let anyone in close enough to let him know that they loved him. He loved deeply, so deeply that it hurt, but he never let the people in his life love him back. He didn't think he was even capable of being loved in return.

Unlike Robin, even in his final moments, he wasn't able to allow himself to feel like he deserved to want to live or be happy. Right to the very end, he didn't think he was someone worth saving. He's grateful for his family and their desperate attempts rescue him, but it he didn't seem to be able to wrap his head around the fact that he was truly cared for. With his last words, he thanked his family for doing something that should have gone without saying; loving him. In the end, he did accept that he was loved. He died with a smile, happy to know that he was loved just as deeply in return

Both Robin and Ace deserved to live, they both deserved to be saved. And they both had people who believed so too.

In Ace's case a whole army of people who believed he was worth saving, just because they loved him. Well and truly loved him, simply for who he was. Both Ace and Robin had people willing to declare war on the entire world just to see them safe and happy. Both of them are so deeply loved that it makes your heart ache. It's just sad that one of them only realized this fact when it was already too late.

I really think Robin and Ace would have gotten each other in a way no one else in the series could have. They would have been able to sympathize with and understand each other in ways others simply wouldn’t be able to.
