For the Descendants kids with horrible and trashy names, how would you name them? From books and movies.
So I'll just go ahead and give how I changed each name for My Canon Descendants AU, to make them feel more like their own character/fit better with the og movies time periods/cultures. I didn't give them all unique names as the point of the project was to translate the Descendants kids into the actual movies, not make full OCs, (though I did end up making a few of those anyway xD) but I tried to at least adjust them.
Mal--Mallow (to go with the Nature name theme the Three Good Fairies had going on with their own names/Briar Rose)
Audrey I kept as it was actually a Medieval name!
Evie-- Eva, it's a pretty easy fix to more period accurate/Germanic sounding
Doug -- Doleful, to fit better with the Dwarfs Attribute names, plus he seemed kinda down in the first movie so the meaning felt like it fit
Carlos I kept because honestly I felt like it could fit in universe if Cruella's husband was a Spanish man, which he conceivabley could be
Jay--Jaamil, and no not because of Twisted Wonderland that just happened by accident xD
They orginally had Aladdin's deleted sin be named Aziz but there was already an Aladdin character named that in the TV show who was a villain so I changed it to Ahmed, like one of the other Arabian Nights heroes
Ben--I changed from Benjamin to Benedict as that was more French/period appropriate
Honestly I could 100% see Gaston naming his sons after himself so I kept Gastons 1 and 2 but I changed Gil to Gilbert (French pronunciation of course)
Lonnie...oh Lonnie. I changed her name to Chi, as with her patronymic of Li she would be Li Chi, which sounded similar to Lonnie but would actually be Chinese and is the name of a girl in a Chinese legend who slays a dragon, which was what I based her hypothetical movie plot on
Chad I changed to Charles, easy enough. Much more elegant and formal
Jane I just changed to Janet to make it a little fancier/Frenchier as well xD
Dizzy I changed to Daisy (though I suppose since she's French based, it really should be Marguerite...eh Daisy can be the nickname)
Uma I kept cuz honestly its a good name and her song is a banger 👌
Harry is fine, good pirate name, short for Henry, which also works. Harriet was fine too, just made her and Harry twins and made CJ go by her first name only of Calista.
Honestly with a pirate dad named Smee Squeeky and Squirmy also work, though they're definitely nicknames.
Celia works fine, it fits with the time/culture of 1920s New Orleans, though I did change Freddie to Frederique.
Getting into some book characters now:
Artie I changed to Amhar, a lesser known son of Arthur (could have done Mordred but as the kid was meant to be heroic I decided to go with Amhar, plus it started with A x)
Mad Maddy honestly isn't a bad name, but I did change it to Matilda to be a bit more Medieval sounding, plus linked her to Matilda of the Night, a Medieval witch legend.
(And apparently there's gonna be a son of Morgana Le Fay in the new movie named... Morgie. My gosh. Well we'll change that right back to Yvain. Her actual son, no she's not Mordred's mother no matter what the movies try to tell you she's his aunt and I will die on this pedantic hill)
Hadie I instantly changed to Zagreus. He's the literal son of Hades and goodness its such a better name. Same with changing Herkie to Hyllus. Also an actual son of Hercules and doesn't sound like a euphemism for throwing up.
Allie I changed to Mary Jean after the Real Alice's grandaughter, and when I made my Queen of Hearts Kid D4 hadn't been announced yet so I named her Aceline (a pun on Ace of Hearts)
Ruby and Anxelin weren't terrible names so I kept them, just made Anxelin a Dark Kingdom name xD (and apparently they're giving Rapunzel a third daughter in the new movie? Her name is just Zellie though...so I think I'll just keep these two. Zellie could definitely work as being short for Anxelin and hey, Rapunzel had twins in the actual fairytale so two just works)
Wrapping it up:
Claudine isnt too bad and fits the time period but I changed her parent from Frollo to his brother Jehan cuz that man should never ever get to be with any woman.
Clay Clayton I changed to Cecil after the actual Clayton character in the books who wasn't that bad of a guy.
Yzla works fine as a name for Yzma's daughter. I just changed Zevon to Yzon to match better and not sound so much like he escaped the 23rd century
Ginny Gothel I just lengthened out to Ginevra to sound more fantastical
I didn't actually do anything for Pocahontas as it always kinda controversial to touch. But if I did I'd of course just make her descendant her actual son Thomas Rolfe and apparently they gave Ratcliffe a son named Rick? So...we'll change his name to Richard or--well one sec let me see if Actual Historical Governor Ratcliffe had any kids.
OK! Looks like he didn't but he did die horribly. My Gosh.
Anyway I think that's everyone!

Ben moves quickly, gesturing behind him at the school. He needs to get things back on track, and move past Audrey’s tactless backhanded insults as quickly as possible. He walks down the path as you, Audrey, and the Isle kids follow him. As usual, you’re a step behind him the whole way. Someone nudges you, and you turn around to see Carlos, extending your now chocolate covered handkerchief toward you.
“Thanks.” You say quietly, accepting it and looking down to tuck it back into your bag. You fuss with the zipper for a moment as you approach the uniformly shaped hedges in front of the school. In your attempts to get your bag closed back up, you don’t notice yourself veering off the path in the wrong direction until you feel Ben’s hand on your back. You look up at him as he guides you to the right with the rest of the group.
“This way, bunny.” He says quietly, and you smile, slightly embarrassed at having started to go the wrong way again. You’re both so used to Ben course correcting you like this that you don’t notice it anymore. But Audrey notices. She always does. Before she can grab onto his arm again, he uses it to draw the Isle kids’ attention to the school, leaving her unable to hold onto him.
“Auradon Prep; originally built over 300 years ago and converted into a high school by my father, when he became king.”
As Ben talks, it reminds you of your own class’s orientation day at the school a few years ago, led by Ben’s dad. You were so nervous that you must have stayed within two feet of Ben the entire time. He’s come such a long way since then, you both have. You could listen to him speak about the school, about this country, about the dynasties of royal families and the positive changes they’ve made for their people for hours. He sounds so much like his dad, and it fills you with a tender sense of pride.
He pauses in front of the statue of his dad and you smile, knowing exactly what’s coming. He looks up at the granite likeness of his dad’s familiar face, his powerful stance, and claps twice. In an instant, the stone shifts and morphs, depicting him now in his beast form. A shrill scream pierces the air behind you and you jump at the noise, clutching your pearls as you startle. You both look back as Ben instinctively places his hands on your shoulders. It feels stable and reassuring, and you feel your heartbeat begin to calm down at the contact. Audrey waits to see if Ben plans on comforting her too, but he just looks down at you, making sure you’re alright.
“You okay?” He asks quietly. You nod, and he lets out a soft breath.
“Yeah.” You breathe so quietly anyone else would have missed it.
Audrey lets out an irritated huff, crossing her arms. After that brief moment of reassurance, you look over at Carlos, who seems to have jumped into Jay’s arms. It’s quiet for a moment as Jay unceremoniously drops Carlos back onto the ground, and Carlos attempts to salvage what’s left of his dignity. Ben chuckles lightly, but not maliciously. Carlos notices this and seems confused that someone is actually laughing with him and not at him.
“Carlos, it’s okay.” Ben says, “My father wanted his statue to morph from beast to man. To remind us that anything is possible.”
Ben hears you finish the last part of the sentence under your breath with him. You’ve both heard his father say those same words thousands of times, and it brings a sudden smile to his face that takes him a moment to get back under control. Part of you wishes that Belle and Adam were here to see him now, see how well he’s doing, how much he seems like both of them in this moment. You know in your bones that if his parents could see him like this, see how naturally and gracefully he talks about the school and the history of his country, they would be proud beyond words. But you’re here to see it, and that feels like enough.
Mal looks at the statue, seeming unimpressed.
“Does he shed much?” She asks with a note of snarkiness to her voice.
“Yeah,” Ben deadpans, “Mom won’t let him on the couch.”
His quick response wins a look of approval from Mal, a chuckle from the other Isle kids, and a loud laugh from you - the kind that takes a moment to trail off. Once you’ve caught your breath, you turn to him to keep walking, this time in the correct direction.
“There’s lint rollers hidden all over the palace.” You add through a giggle, making Ben laugh audibly. Audrey seems less impressed by the ice breaking banter, keeping a tight smile plastered on her face and fighting the urge to roll her eyes.
By the time Ben has brought you all into the foyer of the dorms and explained a little more about the history of the school, Mal is already asking about magic. She seems very curious, but like she doesn’t want to seem like she cares all that much - a defense mechanism, you assume. What people don’t know you care about, they can’t ruin.
“Like, wands? And things like that?” Mal asks casually.
“Yeah, it exists of course.” Ben begins, “But it’s pretty much retired. Except for some forms.” He finishes, gesturing to you, knowing you’re much more qualified to answer magic related questions.
“Right.” You agree, “You see, Wonderland magic is based in nonsense, but here in overland where everything is sense, nonsense doesn’t make nearly as much sense, so it really doesn’t work quite as well - or quite the same way - as it would in a place where things don’t make much of any sense at all…”
You begin to explain, only catching yourself mid ramble towards the end of your train of thought. You trail off, clearing your throat a little.
“But that’s really a story for another time.” You finish. You don’t want to overwhelm them with information on their first day, and Wonderland rules (or lack thereof), are confusing to most people on a good day. Besides, none of them are from timeless domains, so anything they would learn about Wonderland could only be theoretical. Realization crosses Mal’s face, and she points to you.
“So you’d be…”
“Alice’s daughter. Of Wonderland.” You clarify. Ben smiles a little, the way he always does when you introduce yourself like that. He thinks it’s so endearing how you think any Alice other your mom would spring to someone’s mind upon meeting you.
“That explains the teapot bag…” Evie mutters. Someone chuckles, you’re not sure who, but you find yourself hoping this wraps up somewhat soon. You’re trying so hard to be patient, but you were dragged away from Wonderland so suddenly, and it’s always disorienting for you like that. Besides, you’ve heard whispers of a nest egg that’s sure to hatch soon, and you’re dying to go back to Wonderland so you can get a look at it, maybe get some pictures.
“Exactly,” Ben says, turning to you. You’re so grateful that he’s always here to help you navigate awkward moments, like when you don’t notice you’ve been rambling, or make a joke that doesn’t make sense to anyone except him.
“She knows the most about magic out of anyone at Auradon Prep.” Ben continues, turning to you, “It’s just like you said, bunny. Most of us here are just ordinary mortals.”
Mal scoffs at that for two reasons. Not only did a literal prince just call himself a regular average Joe, but you’re supposed to be the one who knows the most about magic? She doesn’t think so. Not when she’s the one with her mother’s spell book hidden in her bag right now. She doubts you’ll still be the one who knows the most about magic starting pretty damn soon. There’s a new queen in town.
“Ordinary mortals, who… just happen to be kings and queens.” She says. At the discussion of royal status, Audrey suddenly finds herself interested in joining the conversation again. She’s always been a little too eager to talk about royal status and bloodlines for your liking.
“That’s true!” She says with that glimmer in her eye that only appears when she’s bragging. She reaches for Ben’s arm again, finally managing to grab it. “Our royal blood goes back hundreds of years…”
She pulls Ben’s arm around her shoulder, and he chuckles awkwardly. He catches your eye for a brief moment, silently praying for a graceful way out of yet another moment made uncomfortable by Audrey’s superior attitude and love of public displays of affection. You know exactly what he’s silently telling you from one look at his face, and you nod your head subtly toward the stairs, drawing his attention there. He looks over, spotting Doug on his way down to the great hall.
“Doug!” He calls, lifting his arm off Audrey to wave Doug over. “Doug, come down.”
Doug nods, and jogs down the last few stairs. He walks over to meet Ben and you, standing in front of the Isle kids.
“This is Doug.” Ben introduces him to their new students. “He’s going to help you with your classes, and schedules, and show you around the rest of the dorms.” They’re silent, and he can sense their apprehension about being handed off to someone, no matter how well they mask it.
“I’ll see you later, okay?” He says, with a small smile. There’s a reassuring quality to his tone of voice that puts everyone in the room at ease. The Isle kids seem to relax a little, and Ben continues, “And if there is anything else you need, please, feel free to-” “Ask Doug.”
Audrey jumps in yet again with that tense smile, cutting off Ben for the… you’ve lost count of how many times, at this point. There’s some more forced laughter between Audrey and Mal, then before you know it, Audrey is dragging Ben away. You start to leave as well, reaching into your bag for your journal to check where you’re supposed to be right now.
“Bunny!” Ben calls, and you turn your head. “This way.”
You turn and scurry a few steps to catch up with him and Audrey. As Doug leads them to their dorms, Evie looks back, her gaze lingering on Ben’s hand resting on your back. Something he’s done very casually a few times in the short while they’ve been here in Auradon, but never once to his actual girlfriend. Evie might be a pretty face, but she’s definitely not stupid when it comes to love. She sighs, and crosses Ben off her mental list of potential princes. One girl she can easily compete with, but two other girls fighting for his attention means he’s just not worth her time. Besides, if Audrey doesn’t stand a chance against you - which she sure doesn’t seem to in Evie’s opinion - she’s sure it won’t be easy for anyone else, even someone as gorgeous as her.
Across the great hall, Audrey stares straight ahead. She refuses to look at you, rolling her eyes and forcing a smile before turning specifically to look at Ben.
“But Bennyboo,” She says patiently, “We’re supposed to have dinner tonight, remember?”
Ben’s brow furrows for a moment before he remembers the plans they had made.
“Oh, right.” He wonders how he could have forgotten that, but chalks it up to the very busy, very important day.
“So we should probably get going,” she says to you, insincerely sweet. “Let’s catch up later, ‘kay?”
She begins to drag Ben away from you, but he hesitates for a moment. Suddenly he remembers why he hadn’t been thinking about dinner with her yet.
“Actually, Audrey, we’re uh,” he looks at you before turning back to her. “We’re having dinner later. After the council stuff this evening.”
Finally, her mood drops in a way that no amount of chipper facades and tropical punch energy drinks can disguise.
“...Right.” She says slowly, watching Ben take another step closer to you.
“We actually need to…” He says, trailing off as you hold out your pocket watch for him to look at. The hands are a little too close to the word Late! for his comfort.
“Oh god.” He mutters quietly. Audrey huffs and he turns back to her, really needing to wrap this up.
“You’re welcome to join us, if you want.” He offers, kindly telling her that either way, you two need to leave right now. Her forced smile grows stale at the idea of having to sit through even more boring meetings, especially unnecessary ones.
“I have a thing.” She says quickly, “I really need to go over the cheer routines we’re doing for the next tourney match. I cannot let Jane be an embarrassment to the squad again.”
“Okay, so dinner later.” Ben confirms. He walks over to give her a chaste peck on the cheek before dragging you away to the next meeting you’re almost late for. She watches the way his hand stays on your back, even when you must clearly know where you’re going. She watches the way you talk to each other as you leave, animatedly and closely in a way that feels too intimate for her liking.
You and Ben are always on the same page, you always have been. She knew what she was getting into when she started dating Ben, she knew about the busy schedule and all the meetings and how close you two are, but she just figured… She hoped that he would have started to like her more than you by now. There’s still time, she reminds herself. She can wrap her Bennyboo so tight around her finger that he forgets all about his little best friend.

I haven’t watched D4, and I’m probably not going to, but one line that I see floating around is when Cinderella says:
Some people act mean at fist cause they're too afraid to feel. It's survival, it's protection. That's why roses grow their thorns.
Who were the first two “good” people that we met that were “mean?”
Chad and Audrey.
We know Auradon isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.
Audrey had a mental breakdown and fell victim to a lingering curse and she was still punished by planning the wedding for Ben and Mal; the reason for said breakdown. Yes, it’s funny, but who would want to tempt fate like that again? Also, yall wasn’t scared that she’d do something to mess it up?
I’m not having someone who does not like me and had literally just said that she wanted to hurt me plan my wedding no matter how sorry she is.
Then we have Chad who this quote fits the best honestly.
Chad has been described as dumb, a womanizer, a jerk etc.
1. He’s the heir to his kingdom.
At the time of D1-D3, he was presumably an only child, meaning that at the time, there were no thoughts about how the inheritance to his throne would go.
This means any girl that succeeded in marrying him and birthing an heir has secured her and her family’s future with no threats.
(This is now a challenge due to Chloe’s existence; if the girl decides that she even wants kids.)
Chad isn’t dumb; he’s proven to be quite smart considering that he made a copy of Jay and Carlos’ dorm room key so that he can use their 3D printer. He’s smart about things that he prefers.
In D1, Doug describes him as someone that inherited all the charm and not much else.
For opportunists, this basically means: He’s an idiot. If I marry him and give him a heir, I can basically be the real power behind the crown.
Not sure how well that’s going to work because in the book Return to the Isle of the Lost; he does seem to care about his kingdom when Ben takes him on a trip there due to Madam Mim’s escape.
Also, it does show that he is concerned about how the line of succession moves if something happens to Ben, and I have thoughts on him, so that’s for another post though.
Back to the point, if he’s “dumb” and they want to take advantage, who wouldn’t turn it around on them? In the movies and books, he canonically had three official girlfriends and a lot more unofficial girlfriends.
1. Ruby Firzherbert; Second in line to Corona and Dark Kingdom.
In some cases, she could be the heir to the Dark Kingdom since in Frozen; Hans mentioned that his brothers were set to one day inherit different kingdoms, and it happened a lot in Ancient Greece that sons would have to find their own kingdoms.
Why not make her the Queen of the Dark Kingdom? It’s been about twenty years. It has definitely been restored to glory.
2. One of Ariel’s nieces.
Ariel has six sisters, and unknown amount of nieces so it’s hard to say what number she is to inherit because the only niece we know of canonically is Arabella. However, if we go with the idea that the sisters were supposed to inherit the seven seas like in the live action version, as a nod to their names and numbers and tails, then this niece would have also been secured in her own lineage.
There is also the fact that said niece could have been the one to inherit the throne to all of Atlantis.
3. Audrey.
She has two kingdoms. Her Father’s and her Mother’s. If we go by the live actions, she has the Moors. She’d also a direct descendant to Queen Ingrinth’s old kingdom. That gives her four kingdoms, but we’re going to stick with two.
Chad was very excited when Audrey wanted to date him. He drove six hours to her with a tire. They broke up in Return to the Isle of Lost, but he still immediately went to help her even after he spent so long on having Evie design his outfit for the Royal Cotillion.
So, the past how many years and months that Ben and Audrey had been together, which really sounds like an arranged marriage from the first book and her line in Queen of Mean where she says “she always thought she’d be the Queen”… then this means he’s watched the only girl he loved be in love with someone else. His best friend basically.
Back to the quote, in D1, we see from Lonnie that the Auradon kids operate under the belief that the villains loved their kids.
Stay with me now.
In D4, we learn that Chad has a younger sister. The early assumption was with the first three movies that he was an only child. Now, we move on to a bit more canonical side. He has a younger sister.
A thing that some mothers fall victim to is living through their daughters.
This gives Cinderella the chance to give her daughter the life that she never had. That same headcanon where everyone says that she spoiled him rotten to make up for her own childhood… it fits better with Chloe because again, Chad is the oldest and the presumed heir so he’d be having a bit more lessons in regards to the kingdom meanwhile he sees his Mother and sister going on another shopping trip or wtv else.
He sees her doting on what he can assumed is the child that she always wanted. He’s obviously not that much older than Chloe, so he could see the difference in how they are treated.
Going with the thought that villains loved their kids and under the presumption, that yeah, his mom loves him, but he wasn’t the child that she wanted… he lashes out.
a. Mal love potions Ben, causing him to publicly embarrass and hurt Audrey.
b. Evie tries to use him just like everyone else.
c. Jay doesn’t have sportsmanship, but he’s quick to take up for the girls. Something that Chad is doing for Audrey, and the parallels are staggering and not something that he wants to see at that point of time.
Now, this my own personal interpretation. You may feel differently. You can disagree with me just as I can disagree with you. That’s your personal right.

I finally fell down the "Descendants"-rabbit hole (better late than never) and watched all three movies back to back. Here are my first thoughts that came to mind:
Maybe a controversial opinion, but the third one was the best in my eyes and the first one gets the last place, even though it has many wonderful moments too. (That being said, I deeply dislike the very last scene of the third movie, since even for a Disney-movie, everything seemed to be forgiven way too fast and easily.)
2. Say what you want about the movies, but the actors are very talented and dedicated and the songs are absolute bops that will hold up for a very long time.
3. I have never had more conflicted emotions about any protagonist than I have about Mal (I might make a separate post about it later, but others have explained it better than I could, so... :) ).
4. Evie would've been more fitting ruler, in my opinion.
4. My shipper-heart beats into so many directions, but I can't truly root for Ben and Mal. The way their love story began was shady (beautifully expressed) and they both had better connection and chemistry with so many other characters.
5. Ben was done so dirty multiple times, and I feel like he is very underrated.
6. Speaking of chemistry... Harry Hook seems to be Theo Raeken of the "Descendants"-universe - he has chemistry with literally anyone. A huge part of me loves Huma and wanted them to end up together, but the connection and sparks he, Gil and Jay have going on.. ;) I also wanted to know more about the obvious romantic past between Hook and Mal. (Hook seems to be one of my favorite characters in many fandoms, huh.)
7. The fact that they didn't make Malvie canon is a huge crime (nothing against Doug, though, he is a great guy).
8. Uma and Audrey deserved so much better, to be honest.
9. Carlos is such a wholesome and sweet bean, he deserves the world as well. I would love to have him as a friend. What happened to Cameron was so tragic and unfair, and thinking about it while seeing his radiating presence on screen made me constantly tear up.
10. I never would've thought I'd say this in any circumstance, but Hades is hands down the best villain-parent and I truly hoped to see more of him.
All in all, I liked the movies way more than I thought I would and they make me feel really nostalgic. ...Plus, the songs will surely be stuck in my head for the next couple of weeks.

writing has been slow so here’s a fun total drama descendants cross over i made in honor of the new movie releasing (it was super mid) enjoy!!
fair warning this is an incredibly long post LOL!
as usual in my crossovers, most characters do technically fill a role in the original stories, but minor changes are made to the plot/relationships due to the nature of the characters!!! :)
noah is the son of maleficent. he originally gets invited to auradon prep alone but ends up being allowed to bring his band of misfits with him. he’s a snarky bitch who enjoys power
izzy is the daughter of the big bad wolf! she’s crazy and definitely not more bark than bite, she will sink her teeth and claws into you just for fun. ends up going to auradon prep with noah after swearing to be on her “best behavior.”
eva is the daughter of gaston. she definitely takes after his strength, but not so much his vanity. she’s loud and aggressive, taking whatever she wants when she wants it. her brawn and noah’s brains make a good team, which convinces noah to take her to auradon.
owen is the son of lefou, and frequently gets picked on/bullied for being too soft. eva was practically assigned as his bodyguard when the two were born due to their parents, so she drags him along everywhere she goes. including all the way to auradon!
as you can see these four takes on the main roles of mal, evie, jay, and carlos. i changed some of their parents to better fit their personalities, but team escope is definitely the main four.
alejandro is the son of belle and the beast. he is coming of age to become king, and his first order is to allow the children of villains on the “isle of the lost” a second chance. he singles out maleficent as the worst and decides to send a message to her and her son first to see the response. he ends up approving four VK’s to attend auradon prep, much to his parents dismay.
courtney is the daughter of snow white. she’s a bit bossier than her mother, but she’s just as chipper and eager to help! she is not fond of the VK’s coming to auradon, and is in an unsaid arranged marriage with alejandro. neither of them are very sure of it, but courtney quite enjoys the life laid out for her.
beth is the daughter of the fairy godmother. she’s very nervous and a bit clumsy, a little bit jealous of the lives the princesses have. she’s overall kind, and is usually running around helping her mother with the school. sweet girl, if not a bit envious. she’s nervous about the VK’s coming to the school.
justin is the son of cinderella and prince charming. while he definitely inherited his father’s charm, his mothers gentle nature and tenderness are very much lacking. he takes a lot of pride in his looks and his status, not much else. also not a fan of the VK’s coming to auradon.
lindsay is the daughter of ariel and eric. she’s a bit ditzy, but she’s incredibly eager to befriend others and do her duty as a princess. she loves her royal life but never looks down on others for not having one. very welcoming to the VK’s when the arrive, she doesn’t see why everyone else isn’t!
harold is the son of peter pan, and has a free spirit such as his dad. while the legends of never growing up seemed to have proven false for his father, harold takes every opportunity of his youth to learn and enjoy the world he lives in. is a bit wary of the VK’s coming to auradon, but hopeful things will work out.
as you can once again tell, each character, minus lindsay and harold, takes on someone else’s role! ben, audrey, jane, and chad! i added lindsay and harold to be more of a general side characters, since we’re lacking ones such as doug and lonnie :)
keeping up with the first movie, it follows a relatively similar plot. noah has the scheme to steal fairy godmothers wand, but with different reasoning. it’s more to prove to himself that he’s worth his mothers attention and love, since in this au she’s rather cold and distant than simply insistent on power. he takes some of his… acquaintances (not friends according to him) along to help keep eyes off him and his plan.
he first attempts to manipulate beth into getting his mothers wand, but the plan ultimately falls through. owen mentions one day how he found out the wand is used in alejandro’s coronation later that month, and bingo, noah has an idea.
he attempts to spell alejandro into simply trusting his wholeheartedly, but with his lack of magic practice and use on the isle, he makes the spell far too strong. same as the movie, alejandro is spelled to believe he’s in love with noah, which doesn’t go over well with almost anyone.
skipping all the rest of the minor stuff, it ends with the four VK’s agreeing they don’t exactly want to be evil and cruel and terrible people, and alejandro and noah actually have real genuine feelings for each other. courtney is not the happiest camper about the change in her life plans, but justin is a good comfort. for now.
moving into movie two, more villains!
heather is the daughter of ursula. shes ruthless and screams power. she commands a pirate ship on the isle of the lost, and is feared everywhere. she is furious when noah and his gaggle of idiots get chosen to go to auradon prep, and even more so when the so called king forgot about the rest of the VK’s. she’s very, very angry.
duncan is the soon of hook. he’s heathers second in command, and is always flirting with somebody or off polishing his hook. he’s known for being cruel, but others say there’s a heart lying in him somewhere. agrees with heather in her outrage of being forgotten about, but isn’t too keen on going to live with some dumb princes in auradon.
gwen is the daughter of the evil queen. she ditched her mom and her ways of narcissism and mirrors a long time around, finding her way into heathers pirate crew. she’s a bit happier now, befriending duncan was a plus after all, heather seems to tolerate her now. is a bit softer than most VK’s, but isn’t afraid to do what she feels needs to be done in the name of justice.
guys did you see the parallels. lindsay and heather. ariel and ursula. courtney and gwen. snow white and the evil queen. harold and duncan. peter pan and hook. DO YOU SEE THE VISION…..
anyways yes these three take on the three roles of the new characters introduced in movie two. uma, harry, and gil.
when noah goes back to the isles due to the pressure of the new royal life he was assigned, as well as a giant fight between him and alejandro, his friends follow him. eva and izzy attempt to make alejandro seem like a villain, but he simply acts too gentlemen like and stands out too much. he apologizes to an unanswering noah, and a observant duncan spots him soon after. heather is alerted the king is there, and as soon as alejandro wanders just a bit too far, he’s quickly grabbed by the pirates.
when even owen can’t coax noah to come back to auradon, the three friends retreat, only to find alejandro now missing, and a man with a green mohawk grinning at them. he explains the pirates took alejandro, and if auradon wants him back, noah had to face heather.
same as in the story happens blah blah heather wants the wand and she’s not actually terrible for real but then she spells alejandro like noah did originally and sneaks her way into auradon and YOU KNOW (if you haven’t watched the movies. i recommend you do to understand this post. do i recommend them in general? depends on the day!)
guys i’m getting so sleepy writing this so for movie three just know that courtney goes a bit evil and all the VK’s have to team up and there’s a lot of stuff with gwen and courtney especially because of their parents and it’s so good in my head. may elaborate further in another post but this is long enough and i need sleep. thank you for coming to my ted talk make sure to like and subscribe for more content buhbye
#total drama#alenoah#total drama island#i genuinely think i’m going insane#this is all i’m thinking about#i listened to the soundtrack to the three movies#just to imagine the tdi characters to the songs#does anyone else ever do that#bc i love it it makes me sooo happy#yes anyways enjoy i love crossovers :3

Descendants characters as Taylor Swift era's?
My first instinct is to go with color schemes but that seems kinda basic.
Harry Hook: See I wanna say red, but the songs on folklore fit for him better I think. So folklore it is
Uma: Reputation, no doubt about it
Gil: Probably fearless, the color and the songs work for him on this one
Audrey: 1989, it's her revenge era. Bad blood, blank space, wildest dreams. Seems fitting for her d3 journey
Jay: Red, that album gives young and flirty and so does Jay
Evie: Lover. You need to calm down, the man, the archer, cruel summer, very much Evie songs.
Mal: Evermore, mostly because of champagne problems and the lyrics "She would've made such a lovely bride What a shame she's fucked in the head, they said But you'll find the real thing instead." Not everybody could've been happy that a VK was going to be queen of Auradon.
Carlos: Midnights. The songs are on the self destruction end a little bit so it feels like a Carlos vibe.
Ben: Taylor Swift. Because of those og country songs and the sweet, wholesomeness of that album
And idk what to say about "speak now." There are too many songs on there that remind me of huma so i don't want to give it to anyone else. I guess that'll just be the Huma album.

ben and i were on vc last night ironing out some wtse stuff and we got on the topic of what fear rules desert bluffs too and how that all shakes out. and i've talked before about how it's ruled by the flesh but benny finally asked the pressing question: what about the corruption?
and i'm so glad they brought it up because for a couple days i'd been thinking about how, if at all, the corruption fits into it.
in wtse the fears aren't divided and identified the same way they are in TMA,because the fear designations in that universe were just something smirke and his buddies came up with and not The Real Thing and night vale's universe provides different opportunities for the fears to present themselves in different ways. night vale is ruled by an amalgamation of the beholding and the spiral, for example. not the beholding and spiral jon knows, but close enough to be familiar
and while there are slaughter-y elements to desert bluffs, senseless violence isn't a core tenant. the violence is controlled and purposeful, even if it may not seem necessary to someone outside of the culture. it isn't really violence for violence sake, whether it's for food or decor or worship purposes, there is always an identifiable motive or rational for causing harm
and putting aside the fact they worship a big bug, the joyous congregation does have some of the corruption in it, namely the import it places on community and conformity. the corruption is, after all, an entity that works off the power of love, of belonging to a larger process, of being so entwined with it you let it literally eat you alive.
makes me think of a hive of grinning office workers, whose worth is only measured by their productivity.
but also, in it devours when darryl is showing nilanjana the Eleven Stages of Human Education, it seems like the primary figure killed its family to keep them close
the line "had a toothy smile—or possible snarl?" always reads to me in the same tone as when people comment about kevin "is that a smile," and given kevin founded the church and stephanie muses they use fox imagery because kevin likes foxes it makes more wonder about kevin's own beliefs about keeping his loved ones close
which then makes me wonder about what someone (i think it was bulk) said to me about kevin not being interested in carlos' work, only the results. more importantly, that kevin wanted carlos to keep finding results, he wanted to keep carlos busy, and he wanted to keep carlos busy to keep carlos in the DOW
one of the first faults carlos has to over come in WTNV is being a workaholic, it's the first complaint cecil has when they start dating. but when carlos goes to the DOW kevin pulls that fault right back out of him, encourages and enables him to keep working. and work is the excuse he gives cecil about why he can't leave. a toxic dynamic forms between kevin and carlos where kevin brings out the worst in carlos in order to keep him there
and thats what the joycon does: it encourages working yourself so hard you have no energy left for anything else and encourages you to keep yourself ignorant except for what the pastor spoon feeds you. and all of this is for the good of the community, the good of the collective
anyway, i'm at that point where i either need to stop or i'll start really getting on my soap box. the point is, dbt is flesh-corruption aligned

Spelled (Carlos de Vil x Sanderson Daughter)- Ch. 4: Welcome to Auradon
Fairy Godmother and Ben’s parents leave to make further preparations for my classes and I’m left alone with Ben, who starts texting on his phone… at least I think it’s a phone?
“Um, what’s with the magic plastic box?” I give the device a strange look.
“Oh right! You’ve been in the woods the whole time!” Ben lets me hold the small thing, which is surprisingly light. “This is a phone. You can call, text, and do all sorts of things with it. Right now I’m just letting some people know we’re gonna be stopping by.”
My eyes widen. “Who? And what for?”
Ben grabs my hand and leads me out of his room down the hall. “Since you’re gonna need some help adjusting I’d like you to meet some other students.” Ben points to an approaching dark-haired girl who looks around my age and is wearing a bubblegum-pink sundress. “This is Audrey-”
“Princess Audrey, Sleeping Beauty’s daughter. Benny Boo, who’s the new nobody?”
This starts to ignite my temper. “Excuse me? Who elected you queen of the bitches? I am no mere peasant who will be pushed around-!”
“Ok, ok- moving on!” Ben ignores Audrey’s irked glare and tugs me over to another dorm- one with knights painted all over the door.
“Why in the name of Auradon did she call you ‘Benny Boo?’” I ask with a disgusted face.
Ben shuffles his feet and looks to the ground in slight embarrassment. “Um, she’s kinda my girlfriend.”
“What?!” I respond sharply. “And you didn’t tell me?!”
“I know, I know, I got a girlfriend and didn’t tell you. I’m sorry! It just sort of… popped up.”
I give him an evil smirk. “Meaning she wants the power tied with your royal position and made herself your girlfriend without you asking?”
Ben huffs. “Yeah.”
“Just give the word and I’ll hex spiders to come out of her pillow.”
Ben’s eyes widen. “No, no! No more pranks! She’d kill you, then me!”
I flinch at Ben’s argument. “It’s not like she’d know it was me. I’m surprised, Brother Ben. You used to like parking people. What happened? Going to be king and all the fun goes away?”
Ben doesn’t say anything and goes to open the door. Inside a brown-eyed brunette boy is admiring a brand-new sports jacket in front of a mirror.
“Chad?” Ben calls, but he still doesn’t notice. “Chad!”
He looks away from the mirror. “Oh, hi Ben. Didn’t see you, just fitting on my new blazer.” He goes back to admiring himself.
“And I thought the Evil Queen spent too much time in front of the mirror,” I mutter.
“Magica, meet Chad Charming. Son of Cinderella and Prince Charming. Chad, this is Magica. She’s new here.”
Chad takes a second to give me a once-over, and then gives an approving nod. “You seem worthy, but will you be able to pass the initiation?”
I frown. “Wha-?”
“No, we are not doing that! Moving on!” Ben drags me out before I can question the dim-wit further.
“What was that all about? What initiation-?”
But Ben doesn’t answer. Instead he shows me to a white door with hot pink lilies and green leaves painted on it.
A disturbing thought crosses my mind. “Um, Ben? Will I ever be able to visit my father? Will I ever get to see him again?”
He thinks for a moment, then Ben says: “There’s family days sprinkled throughout the school year, so you’ll be able to see him then. As for visiting… I’ll have to double-check with my folks before I can determine an answer.”
Oh. Great. The only caring family member I love and I’m forbidden to see him. Perfect.
When Ben opens the door a blast of pop music hits my ears and I can hardly hear myself think. Inside the dorm is decorated with pink, green, and blue drapes, as well as multiple butterflies that have been enchanted to flutter around the room. There is also a dark-haired girl wearing a teal top and black leggings dancing around.
“Hey, Lonnie!” Ben yells over the noise.
The girl stops dancing and smiles at us as she goes to turn the music off. “Hi Ben!”
“Lonnie, meet Magica. She’ll be starting classes here next week.”
“Oh really? Hi! I’m Mulan’s daughter! Who are your parents?”
Immediately I try to frantically search for an answer that will not get me shunned from my new school. Um- random gypsy? Unknown parents? Orphan? Yes! Orphan it is!
“I’m an orphan,” I lie as smoothly as possible. “I’ve grown up in Sherwood Forest my whole life, so I’m not quite used to this… modern way of living.”
Lonie’s mouth drops. “Oh my gosh, I am so sorry! I can’t imagine what it must be like to never know who your parents are. I’ll never bring it up again, I promise.”
Ben gives me a confused glance but then gets where I’m going with this. “Also Lonnie, um, Magica also has a few talents…”
“Really? Like what?” Lonnie asks with wide eyes.
On que, I conjure some pink flames that dance around my fingers. “Sorcery. Pick thy pleasure. What wouldst thou have me do?”
Lonnie gasps at the sight of my magic, and all she can do is stare until Ben waves a hand in front of her to bring her back to reality.
“Wow… you must be very accomplished! What kinds of magic can you do?”
I’m taken aback at the thought of someone asking questions of interest regarding my skills instead of interrogating me so they can lock me away.
“Oh! Um… Levitation, illumination spells and extinguishing spells, and some invisibility hexes. I’ve also been working on a variety of potions and tonics.”
“Really?” Lonnie exclaims.
“Really?” Ben asks, dumbfounded.
I just shrug and go to say more, but Ben grabs my arm and leads me back to the hallway.
“Gotta get going- lots to see.”
“Oh- ok. Nice to meet you, Magica!”
After Ben shuts the door he gives me a look that’s a mix of bewilderment and fear.
“I didn’t know you’d been practicing that much. I thought it was just a few simple tricks. Just how much magic can you do?”
Ah, here it comes. I was expecting this would happen sooner or later. Ben is already questioning my powers with uncertainty, and soon after he’ll tell his parents and me being restrained from magic will surely follow. I don’t want Ben to think he’s made the wrong choice, but then again… A part of me doesn’t want to tell him just how much witchcraft I’ve learned. After all, I'm related to Winifred Sanderson, one of the most well-known witches. I would rather be known for being a powerful witch than a scatterbrained flirt like my mother, so I should just bide my time and let Fairy Godmother help me control my magic. I can be good without Ben babying me. For now I think I’ll just downplay my skills and keep the more powerful magic a temporary secret…
I try to act shy and look at my feet. “It’s not much, really. Just some pocket spells and a few jinxes and hexes. Nothing major.”
I’m not even going to mention Mother’s spellbook.
But Ben seems to believe me and takes me to another door, this one being painted with pink and periwinkle daisies. This time Ben knocks, and the door is slowly opened to reveal a nervous-looking girl wearing a light blue tea dress and pink bow in her cute hair bob.
“And last but definitely not least: Jane.”
“Um, hi Ben. Did my mom send you?” She asks in a timid voice.
Ben gives her a warm smile and gestures to me.
“Jane’s the daughter of Fairy Godmother. Jane, this is Magica. She’s a new student here.”
I give a small wave. “Hi. It’s very nice to meet you, Jane. I must say, you’re very lucky to have a mother like yours.”
Jane seems to relax when she realizes I’m not going to eat her alive or whatever she thinks I’m here for. Now she opens the door wider and gives me a look-over.
“So who are your parents?”
Here we go again.
“I’m an orphan. But I did inherit some sorcery skills, which is why I’m here.” To prove this I send some pink sparks floating up into the air. Now Jane’s lost almost all fear of me and gives me a joyful smile.
“Surely you’ve gotta be in my Mom’s magic sessions! With stuff like that, you’ll easily be able to get a job on the Magic Committee! The last student who got inducted was Bianca, daughter of the Blue Fairy. Um… would you maybe want to sit together at lunch?”
Jane’s friendly request is asked as if she’s wondering if I’d consider willingly falling off a bridge. At first I’m against it. After all, I’m trying to keep to myself and pledging my potential friendship to someone this soon could get out of hand… But when I see the hope and eagerness in Jane’s eyes it reminds me of just how much I want to have friendship too.
“Of course I’d love to eat lunch with you,” I say warmly with a smile. “Maybe after I’m done with the tour?”
Ben seems surprised at my sudden acceptance of friendship, while Jane looks as if her birthday just came early.
“Really? I’d love that! Um, guess I’ll see you later?”
Ben gives a wave and starts leading me off just as I can say “See you later!” and then takes me back to his room, which is decorated with knights like Chad’s only the colors are blue and yellow.
“That was… different. You’re normally not so accepting of hanging out with others. Remember what happened with Willow?”
I cringe at the memory of Willow pouring ice water on me, wondering if it would melt me since she’d already thought I was a witch. Turns out it had only pissed me off and sent me running to the woods to nearly burn half the forest down in attempts to calm my temper. That had been a hard day for both me and Binx, and when Ben had found out he had Willow write a formal apology to me, although I could tell that the writing was very forced and cruel-minded. However Ben did let me cast a hex that made her hiccup for a week, so I felt better.
Now, the recent memory of her leading the accusation of me being a witch plagues my mind. And it’s still all too painful to think about. But not everyone is Willow, and unlike my other family members I do not want to be left with cruel, wicked witches as ‘friends.’ At the end of the day I want at least one good friend who won’t let me down, who won’t betray me and leave me.
Ben’s let me think over my response, but I can tell he’s just on edge as I am about me opening up to others.
“I know I’m not the most social person, Ben, but I really want to show that I can be good, that I am good. And in order to do that I’ve got to actually change and talk instead of always hiding in the woods when I’m scared or upset. Besides, Jane seems nice. Especially compared to Willow. Or Audrey, for that matter.”
Now Ben starts pacing, a telltale sign that he’s overthinking.
“Magica, I… I don’t know what to think about you. I mean, we haven’t seen each other for so long, and people change. I’m not saying you’ve become someone else, but you’ve got to understand that being king is a very big responsibility. I can’t be a part of any more childish pranks, and you should be using your magic for more appropriate uses. And orphan? Where’d that come from? Between this and you being more involved with intense magic I don’t know how many more secrets you’re planning on keeping from everyone, from me.”
He’s upset, but in a frustrated kind of way. Not angry, but close.
I bite my lip and go to Ben’s balcony to look out into the courtyard.
“Ben, you know you’ll always be my big brother. I didn’t know how much you really changed… how grown up you’ve become. But if you want me to be more mature, then I’ll try. I really want to make a life here in Auradon. But I don’t know who to trust. You need to understand how much pressure I’m going through as a villain kid, and I want to make everyone proud. Please, just let me test out this new environment and see how well I can cope.”
My old friend still seems doubtful, but soon comes over to give my hand a gentle squeeze.
“I know you’ll make us proud, Sparks. I’ll be with you ‘til the end, no matter what.”
I nod. “Thanks, Ben. At least I know I can trust you.”
But after what I’ve learned today, can I really trust him…?
Ben now leads me back down the hall to another door across from Jane’s- a plain one.
“This is your dorm. There’s no one else living in it, and there are more empty dorms nest to yours in case more students come during the semester. Feel free to decorate it however you like, as long as,” Ben holds up a finger. “It’s not too extreme. No big magic forest or whatever. Keep it simple.”
I roll my eyes. “Ben, I’ve been keeping discrete all my life. I think I know how to keep things simple. After I get settled I’m going to lunch with Jane. See you later.” With that I shut the door and let out a deep groan as I sink to the floor- which is covered in soft carpeting, a luxury we never had in the cottage.
“Everything going ok?” A voice asks.
I jerk my head up to find a sneaky black cat sitting in the window.
“Binx? How’d you find me? How’d you get in here?” An overjoyed smile spreads over my face.
“Of course I found you. I wouldn’t just let them take you away and let you be left by yourself.”
I sigh. “At least I can count on you. Ben’s turned into Mister King Goody-Goody and everyone else is… ok.”
“Want to talk about it?”
Just then another familiar face joins us. Twilight jumps into the windowsill and gives a confused meow.
“Your friend is asking if pets are allowed here,” Binx tells me.
I get up and hold Twilight to my chest, letting her warm, soft fur give me what little comfort I can get.
“Oh, Twilight. You’re not just a pet. You’re my companion. And if they don’t allow pets then I’ll just have to make Ben pass a new law to keep you here. You too, Binx. It’s just… I didn’t tell Ben about how in-depth I’ve gotten with my magic. I- I didn’t even tell him about Mom’s spellbook. When I told what little I did he started acting all paranoid, as if he made the wrong choice to let me stay. And now on top of hiding the fact that I’m a villain kid, I’ve been made Ben’s Royal Advisor! How am I supposed to keep up with that? People will think that I’m manipulating Ben with my magic and then here come the torches and pitchforks!”
While I’m talking, Binx goes over to my bed and gives me a hopeful look.
I roll my eyes. “Go ahead. It’ll add to the woodsy witchcraft aesthetic I’m going for. Gotta ‘keep it simple!’
With my blessing, Binx goes to town scratching up my bedpost. When Twilight sees what’s going on she jumps from my arms and joins in.
“Can’t see Dad again, stuck hiding my powers, having to live next to Audrey,” I say in a mocking, high-pitched tone. “I’m starting to think I was better off practicing in the woods.”
Binx looks up from his playtime routine. “I’m always here if you need me, Magica. Look on the bright side: at least you’re getting proper help to control your powers and not just experimenting with that book.”
I grunt. “Guess so. The only problem now is trying to figure out who to trust. I thought I could trust Ben, but after today I’m starting to have second thoughts…”
Just then I hear a knock on the door, and both cats scramble under the bedskirt.
“Magica? It’s Jane. Do you still want to go to lunch?”
The nervous voice gives me some consolation with the hope of finding a potential friend.
“At least she seems friendly. Come in!”
Jane gently opens the door and looks around my dusty, gray-colored dorm. “Have you decided how you’re going to decorate?”
I force a smile despite the sadness, anger, and confusion swirling within me. “I think so. Would you like to meet my roommates?”
Jane frowns. “Roommates…?”
I look over at my bed. “You guys can come out. She won’t bite.”
Binx cautiously pokes his head out, followed by Twilight. When Jane sees them she giggles.
“Aw! They’re so cute! Where’d you find them? Did they follow you here?”
I try to remain calm during her outlandish excitement and introduce my companions. “This is Twilight, and that’s Binx.”
At his name, Binx gives a small nod. “Delighted to meet you, Jane.”
Jane’s face freezes and her eyes go wide. “D- Did- Did he just… talk?”
I nod. “His name is Thackery Binx. He was human before- before a witch cursed him to become a cat. Twilight can’t talk, but she’s still just as good a companion. In my opinion, animals are more of a friend than any human.” I stumble a bit when reciting Binx's story, remembering that I can't mention my Aunt who cursed him.
“I agree.” Jane goes over to stroke Twilight. “So… are you still on for lunch?”
Actually, having lunch with Jane sounds… nice. And for once maybe I’ll be able to forget my problems without someone pouring water on me or trying to burn me at the stake.
“I’d love to! Just let me set a few things down and I’ll be right there.”
Jane goes to wait in the hall while I quickly hide Mom’s spellbook behind a dresser. I can go without it for half a day.
When I meet Jane outside she’s got a giddy look on her face. “Ready?”
A calm, almost eager sensation comes over me as I return her smile. “As ready as I can be.”

Your unpopular opinions on Descendants?
Oh boy, here we go. I fully expect to be excommunicated from the fandom for this...
-Mal gets too much hate from the fandom, especially for her D1 actions. I get she's not a perfect character (especially concerning some of her actions in the books) but the fandom seems to be too willing to forgive Audrey for her actions in D3 because of what Leah said to her and yet ignore Mal's line regarding her and her friends/allies fate if they didn't get the wand:
'Oh no, we are definitely goners'
As well, Mal was raised in a hostile environment--yes she had a slightly better life on the Isle being Maleficent's daughter but she still lived on the Isle just like Evie, Carlos, and Jay did. As well, she's lived her entire life trying to be her mother. She's not going to just flip a switch because she's away from her abusive environment.
-If anyone's a Mary Sue, it's Audrey. I've seen way too many people say Mal's a Mary Sue because her mom's Maleficent and her dad's Hades so that makes her OP but the most powerful magic we saw her do was her dragon transformation. Meanwhile, Princess Never Use or Have a Drop of Magic in Her Life is suddenly using Maleficent's scepter to the point where she can curse people with it? Enchant boards and suits of armor in other locations?
-Evie. And. Doug. Should. Not. Be. True. Love. I will die on this hill--people call Bal toxic because of the love potion and the attempted memory wipe, but they ignore 'Are you stalking me? technically yes' and Doug's actions in D2 should have removed the True Love label from Bevie, especially since stalking's a real-life issue that I really can't believe was turned into a joke (but then again HSM2 introduced kids to workplace harassment without realizing it)
-This is a petty one but where's Mal's, Jay's, Carlos', and Evie's thank you for facing off against Maleficent? These are a seventeen-year-old, two sixteen-year-olds, and a fourteen-year-old facing off against The Mistress of All Evil and there's not a one on-screen thank you? In Wicked World, Mal even had to remind people she 'turned [her] mother into a gecko for you people' when she was accused of CJ's mischief before the Neon Light's Ball/when Ben got captured.
-On the subject of Wicked World...tie it in better with the movies. Especially season one. It...was completely pointless and both seasons could have been used to bridge the gaps between movies
-Audrey should not have been the wedding planner for Mal and Ben's wedding. I'm sorry, it's a cute idea and all and calls back to how Audrey planned Cotillion in the years before D2 but planning someone's wedding should not be an apology/trying to get back into the kingdom's good graces after not only throwing a coup but knowingly turning your ex into his worst fear.
-Also I liked the private ceremony. I thought it was more 'Ben and Mal' and fit their characters!
So yeah...those are my unpopular Descendants opinions!

Within The Limits (Ben Chilwell x Jenson Button x OC) Chapter 2
warnings: none so far, you are safe.
author's note: I just realised this story will be bigger than the one I wrote for Mason and Carlos. Don't know why but I have more confidence in my writing now than I had a year ago!
next chapter
"How long?"
"Eh, probably 3 weeks. Almost a month." I look at my knee and sometimes I wish I had one made out of iron.
"I'm so sorry mate. You were doing very well and this is unfortunate. The defence looks weak without you and Reece." Mason says as he takes a sip from his glass of wine.
Even though we may not be teammates anymore or England's regulars, our friendship has been stronger than ever. I sometimes travel to Manchester, or he drives to London. I do miss him as a teammate but if that was the best for his career, I wasn't going to be an intruder in his dreams.
"Says you. Mate, I miss seeing you on the pitch. I am sure though you will come back stronger. I miss playing with you." I say even though I feel like Mason regrets his move.
United are on a losing streak and have been officially knocked out of all European competitions. It's a shame because Mason has showed what he is capable of.
"I guarantee you, early March or before the call up for the Euros, we will be ready and fit and play again together. Nothing will change my mind" he says and I feel my confidence boosted. I can always count on Mason and so can he on me.
"I hope you're right. I so want to play for England again. I missed the World Cup so now it's my chance to revive myself" I empty my glass and lay my head back on the pillow.
"Hey, wanna watch a game? I think Spurs and City are on." Mase suggests but I am in no mood for football. I prefer playing not watching and especially when I am injured.
"What about some F1? Quali was on and I missed it. Plus, remember that we have been invited to the race tomorrow" We had passes for three days but training was ahead and better be safe than sorry.
“Oh yeah. I wanna be aware on who’s on pole and stuff. The grid walk is kinda stressful when they ask you questions about stuff you barely know.” I click on Sky Sports and tune into F1.
We’ve missed the session but the post Quali analysis is on so we will see the list of drivers underneath. And oh, Lando is on pole! Jolly. He’s more close with Mason but a Brit being first amongst 20 isn’t bad, especially at the British Grand Prix.
“Oi Lando! Happy for him. Gonna wish him good luck tomorrow.” Mason exclaims but my eyes remain locked with the woman’s figure on the tv.
She seems fairly young, probably around my age. And a bit familiar too. Her brown locks cover her shoulders perfectly and her expression radiates intelligence but also sweetness. Currently interviewing Lando and his former teammate, Carlos, with such maturity and afterwards congratulating the both of them.
She then faces the other two interviewers that are with her, but mostly the man next to her. She looks so happy to be there, talking about something that she probably loves, given that she works for F1.
“Earth to chilly. Hello?” Mason clicks his fingers in front of my face and I immediately realized that I was lost at admiring her beauty through a screen.
“Sorry. Got distracted” I shake my head and look underneath at the stats.
“You were looking at Chelsea” Mason says with a massive smirk on his face.
“I’m sorry, who?”
“Chelsea. The interviewer. She works for both F1 and the Premier League.” Wait, how wasn’t I aware of that?
Probably because you don’t play now idiot. And you’re more on the training ground.
“Is she new in the Prem? My eye never caught her and given how she looks, I would have noticed.” I don’t know why I said that last thing. And I don’t even know her.
“Not really. She was recruited a bit before the World Cup started. She mostly commentates on United and City’s games given that she does live in Manchester.” Mason explains and I’m still trying to spot her inside my mind. How come I’ve never seen her before but Mase has?
“And her name is Chelsea you said? What, is she a fan or something?” I ask and my glance falls back on her. Oh she looks like a true grace.
“I have no idea. Ask her tomorrow.” He blurts out so casually.
“As if I know her. She’ll think I’m a creep.” I say trying to hide my blush.
“Fine coward. We will go together. Or I’ll go by myself if you don’t want to. Good thing she lives close to me.” Mason winks evilly and I punch his shoulder lightly.
She seems so full of knowledge that I wonder why she's not commentating more premier league games.
Probably because she's travelling the world with F1.
"All jokes aside, she is a really nice girl. Always polite, smiling and never judging. I am sure you will like her once you meet her." Mason says as he types on his phone.
"I will take your word for it."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey Chels, can I ask a favor?" Lando approaches me in a rush, followed by Carlos who is not paying attention because he is busy talking on the phone.
"Uh, sure. Tell me." Usually Lando isn't the one asking favors. It's mostly George who wants to show off to the guests or Alex who can't keep track with the sessions.
"Two lads from the England squad will be in the paddock tomorrow and one of them hasn't been to a Grand Prix before so could you show them around the paddock?" Suddenly alarms are echoing in my head as I imagine who those may be.
"No problem. May I ask, who are the two guys?"
"Mason and Ben. I'm assuming you know them and especially Mase given you work at Manchester."
Ben? As in Chilwell? Oh the shock my dad with get when I tell him that. Also, I haven't met in him person. Never had the chance to commentate on a Chelsea game. And I briefly remember him at his Leicester days.
"Yeah yeah. I will show them around. You got it."
"Thank you so much. I owe you." He hugs me tightly and a confused Carlos looks at the both of us.
"I'm not gonna steal your boyfriend Sainz. No need to death stare me." I say mocking him.
"You know, one day, some reporter will hear you and then people will start asking us about the wedding date." Carlos says rolling his eyes annoyingly.
"I will see you guys tomorrow. Take care" and I wave both of them goodbye, as I feel my heart skipping a beat when a pair of strong arms are wrapped around my waist.
Jenson is leaving small kisses up my neck as I try to remove myself from his grasp. He knows I have a weakness and he uses it against me.
"Ready to go, love?"
"Mhm" I nod and take his hand into mine.
"What were you and Lando talking about? Does he need tips on how to block Max from stealing the first place at turn 1?"
"He will be fine on that part. No, uh, he wants me to give a tour of the paddock to some of his friends that will be in the Mclaren garage and given that I know one of them very well, he thought I was fit for it."
"What friends? The ones that are with him on that e-sports team he has?" It's funny seeing Jenson so confused and not knowing what Quadrant is and being kinda uptight about me missing from his side.
"No babe. Some football players. Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell. I know Mason very well but it's Ben's first time watching a race from up close so he wants me to guide them. Won't take more than an hour."
"Don't remind me that those football boys will have eyes on my girl while I won't be able to do anything." Jenson's hand grabs my waist firmly and I can sense he is worried about my time in England.
We are not an official pair and yet he is safeguarding me like we have been dating for ages. I guess two years is quite some time to be dating or "seeing" someone, so I understand the possessiveness. Although it does seem weird that he has been acting up since last night.
He is being all touchy and loving with kisses and mind-blowing sex, aftercare and treating me as if I am more fragile than a glass. I can understand that he is worried but if he wants us to become an official couple he can say it. I don't know what's holding him back.
"You could do something about it, if you don't want those ballers gawking around me like eagles." I drop slight hints even though I know deep down that is not what he wants.
But what they say is true,
if you want something very badly, go for it, right?

heart has his heart | part 1.
Summary: (Y/N) Heart is chosen alongside her friends to attend Auradon Prep. Of course her friend Mal’s mom, Maleficent, has a much more sinister plan than the kids just attending Auradon. Will they be able to pull of stealing the wand or will (Y/N) find herself liking Auradon a bit too much?
Pairing: Ben x reader
Word Count: 1.5k
Warnings: none
(Series Masterlist)
Curl Up and Dye was where you and your mother often spent your Mother-Daughter Day. Unlike most villains, the Queen and King of Hearts actually cared about their kid— only your dad would never be caught dead in a hair salon, no matter what the special occasion. The Queen was getting her signature curls from Lady Tremaine, she didn’t trust Dizzy to do it.
You on the other hand had no problem letting the young girl do your hair, as long as it was pretty you were satisfied. Any style would do, you figured you looked great in anything, anyway. Hair wasn’t your main focus, it was always the makeup. While you rarely put on a full face something about you always was made up. Whether it was just eyeliner, or just lipstick, or some blush, some part of your face was done.
Evie, The Evil Queen, Mal, and Maleficent came into the salon. It was rare for the two older women to be seen together but ever since Evie joined Mal’s gang, the two learned to tolerate each other. Maleficent stopped right in front of you as Dizzy was putting the final touches.
“Are you ready to go?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be.” You handed Dizzy a ten-dollar tip for herself.
“You bet your head that my daughter is ready.”
“Haven’t you had enough of heads already?” Queen Grimhilde joked as she admired your mother’s hair.
“I’m just saying our girls will do us proud.”
“To think I’ll have my hands on that wand!” Maleficent said excitedly. “Girls! Do your mothers proud.”
You left the shop with Evie and Mal. You were such an odd sight, the three of you. You and Evie made sense but Mal being so overt with her evil didn’t seem to fit with you guys. You girls met up with Jay and Carlos to go over final plans. You left for Auradon tomorrow.
The five of y’all settled into the back of the limo. You had on your mother’s prized crown. It was the possession you chose to take with you to Auradon. You watched in disgust as Jay and Carlos stuffed their faces with candy and chocolate.
“I know that we’ve never had sweets before but you could at least act dignified?” You asked, delicately picking a sour gummy from the bowl Carlos was holding and popped it into your mouth.
“Sorry we weren’t all raised like you, princess? Some of us peasants had to struggle.”
“Not my fault your dad got tricked into a lamp. You know, forget the sweets. I wonder what street rat taste like.”
Jay rolled his eyes and went back to the candy. You weren’t one to spare anyone from your sarcasm and gripe. You were a royal after all, how else should you conduct yourself? Even the gang was subject to your funny yet sometimes relentless and obnoxious roasting.
“Ooh, M, you’re looking a little washed out. Here let me help you.” Evie applied some blush to Mal’s cheeks but she swatted the hand away.
“Eww, stop. I’m plotting.”
“Well, it’s not very attractive.” The blue-haired girl went back to sucking on her piece of rock salt candy.
Mal pressed a button on some random remote, causing you and Evie to look at the little black panel separating you from the driver roll down. That wasn’t the only thing rolling down, so was the barrier… with no bridge.
“IT’S A TRAP!”
You yelled; but, there was nothing you and the VKs could do but scream. And you kept screaming until you realized that you weren’t plummeting to your death. In fact, you weren’t anywhere near the water. The bridge slowly appeared as the limo kept going.
“Hey, um, did this just open the barrier?” You held up the remote and asked the driver.
“That opens my garage door, this remote opens the barrier.” The driver held up a different remote. “And this…”
He pressed a button that made the partition slide back up, blocking you guys from his sight. You scoffed, did he have manners? Mal turned back around and smiled.
“Ha. Nasty… I like that guy.”
You could hear the music before the limo had even fully pulled into campus. Looks like Auradon Prep pulled out all the stops. You weren’t sure why. If only they knew the five of you weren’t planning on staying too long. You stepped out the car and looked to see the mixture of shock and disgust on the faces of three people in front of you. Two of them you recognized: Fairy Godmother and Prince Benjamin. You followed their gaze to where Jay and Carlos were wrestling over who got to have the stolen electronics from the limo, Jay clearly winning. You weren’t surprised. Mal nudged the two of them and they looked over.
“Hehe, just cleaning up,” Jay said.
“Leave it like you found it… actually, just leave it.”
Jay dropped the equipment, and effectively Carlos, and strolled over to the girl whose name you didn’t know.
“Hey, Foxy. The name’s Jay.”
You had to stop yourself from gagging, five minutes at Auradon and he was already trying to get some. The girl looked him up and down, unimpressed.
Same sister, you thought.
“Welcome to Auradon Prep. I’m Fairy Godmother, Headmistress.” The fairy spoke up, saving everyone from embarrassment.
“The Fairy Godmother? As in Bibbidi-Bobbidi Boo?” Mal asked.
“No, M, as in Topsy Turvy Too. What other Fairy Godmother’s do you know.” You didn’t even mean to be sarcastic, it just slipped out. Mal gave you a mildly annoyed push while Fairy Godmother looked on smiling.
“Well, Bibbidi-Bobbidi you know it.”
Is she always like this? You thought to yourself as you watched Prince Benjamin usher her away before he addressed you guys.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Ben—”
“Prince Benjamin.” The girl cut him off. Somehow you suddenly just knew she was going to get on your nerves.
“You had me at prince.” Evie stepped up. “I’m Evie. My mother’s a queen so that makes me a princess.”
“The Evil Queen has no jurisdiction here or royal status. And neither do you.”
“I mean neither does that outfit but they still let you wear it out the house.” You muttered under your breath. It wasn’t as quiet as you thought. The other VKs snickered at your comment.
“This is Audrey,” Ben tried to diffuse the situation.
“Princess Audrey. Sleeping Beauty’s daughter and his girlfriend. Right, Benny-Boo?”
You looked over to Mal, the irony wasn’t lost on you at all. This was going to be a great time.
“This will be a momentous occasion and one that I hope will go down in history…” Ben went and shook everyone’s hand. “As the day our two peoples meet and begin to heal.”
You gave him a right proper curtsey to match whatever boisterous speech he just gave.
“A bit much?”
“Just a bit. Next time maybe just you arriving to Auradon Prep will be remembered in history,” you said before shaking his hand.
“Noted.”
“Princess (Y/N) Heart.” You emphasized the princess just to annoy Audrey. Ben didn’t seem fazed or even attempt to correct you like she did to Evie.
“Heart? That’s your last name? I thought it was just a part of Wonderland, the Valley of Hearts.”
Ben didn’t let go of your hand.
“In Wonderland, royals take the last name of where they rule. We rule the Valley of Hearts so, I’m a Heart.”
Audrey was by Ben’s side in an instant. “Well, no one really rules over the Valley of Hearts anymore. Your mother made sure of that with the whole off with your head thing.”
“Aww, and here I thought we might actually be friends… you know we never actually beheaded anyone right? It’s just a saying. Although, I’d be very happy to change that count from zero beheadings to one.”
You finally let go of Ben’s hand. “You gonna show us around or what?”
“Uh, yeah. Right this way.”
Ben signaled to where the front doors and a statue were. Before he could head off to lead the tour, you shrugged and looked over at the VKs giving two snaps to signal it was time to head out. Ben had to run to be in front of the group. Ben stopped in front of the statue. Now that you were closer you could see it was one of King Beast, a man your parents didn’t like at all. He was one that might make the first actual beheading in the Valley of Hearts if your mother ever saw him.
Ben clapped and the statue changed from King Adam’s human form to him in Beast form. You covered your ears as Carlos screamed and jumped into Jay’s arms.
“Relax, Carlos. My dad wanted his statue to change from beast to man to remind us that anything is possible if we try hard enough.”
Carlos made a clapping motion but nothing happened.
“Oh. It only works with the royal family.”
Just because it amused you to try, you clapped your hands. The statue took a minute but it shifted. Everyone turned to look at you.
“Your statue’s broken.”
“Huh.” Ben said nothing else but continued the tour.

Some thoughts on Descendants...
I have been watching this series way too much the last few months. It is legit my #1 guilty pleasure. But anyway, here are some thoughts I've wanted to get out... So let's go!
I'm not going to do spoilers for the Wedding special, but the moment for Carlos made me fight back tears. RIP Cameron Boyce. On a separate note, I love that the Happy Madison crew dedicated Hubie Halloween to him too.
This is by far the campiest Maleficent, but it works? Even in the original, she was sadistically playful. She doesn't exude evil like she should, but I get they weren't going for a scary tone. The villains are all mostly shells of their former selves.
But what is going on with Jafar? He turned into the lamp salesman? And Jay acts way more like Son of Aladdin... Did Jafar lose everything, *and* somehow get stuck raising Aladdin's kid? That's the only way I can reconcile how un-Jafar this guy is.
Cruella is spot-on though. I don't even mind that they diversified her to match Carlos being biracial: the actress just nails it. I wish they'd given her a bigger role, or at least an appearance in the 3rd.
I hate that they just call Grimhilde "Evil Queen". She's also more like Mother Gothel, but I get that the Evil Queen was too evil/similar to Maleficent. I understand why they played up the vanity/silly angle.
Oof, Prince Adam/Beast is not a good actor... And he's kinda a dick to Belle. I wish Prince Ben had been given a French name. I'm an etymology nerd, y'all. Prince Beau, maybe?
The limo scene kind of bothers me. Is it that the Isle of the Lost does have candy, just not chocolate and peanut butter? Mal stole that lollipop from the baby earlier. This is making me think too hard.
I read on reddit or somewhere that the VKs are named after their parents to reflect the narcissism of the Villains. I guess not Carlos/Cruella, but Mal/Maleficent, Evie/Evil Queen, and Jay/Jafar. I guess from that angle, Beau/Belle wouldn't really work.
So did Cinderella spoil her kid and never make him do a chore in his life? Why was she such a bad parent? Apparently Aurora and Phillip were bad moms and dads too? I do like that it fits into the series' overall theme though: your parents don't define you.
It's actually really sad when you think about how emotionally abusive the Villain parents are... Mal is treated like a tool for Maleficent's schemes, Evie is pressured to act like a shallow bimbo instead of showing how smart and kind she is, Carlos is Gothel-ed (stay with mummy or else evil fanged creatures will murder you!), and Jay... I really don't think Jafar is his dad. 😆 Aladdin must have had an affair with Jafar's sister or something, and Jafar is forced to raise the kid.
I do wish though... Why didn't they use canonically diverse characters instead of race-bending? Where is Tiana's kid? Pocahontas? Esmeralda? Jasmine? Kronk or Yzma? Yeah, there aren't a huge amount to choose from...
I do enjoy how they seem to have cast the main cast first, and then changed Cruella/Ursula/Queen Leah/Lady Tremaine to match the actors of the kids. That feels like a cool and respectful way to diversify the Disney cast, imo.
Who is Evie's dad? I think Sofia Carson is latinx, so my head-canon suspects Ernesto de la Cruz. Who is Carlos's dad? What about Uma's dad? We find out Mal's parents, at least. And I've already told you what I think about Jay.
I was shocked to find out that Harry Hook's accent is real. I 100% thought it was fake. He must be trying to do a pirate voice or something...
I wish Wicked World was canon. I can't make it fit in my head though. CJ Hook should have had a cameo in Uma's crew. And Frederique Facilier should have at least been mentioned...
Does anyone else wonder what the backstories are of some of the extras? Do you think they were given them or made them up?
I guarantee the extras in Uma's crew argued. "I'm son of Jack Sparrow." "No, I'm son of Jack Sparrow!". "Guys, guys... We can *all* be Jack Sparrow's kids. We know he got around."
Chad Charming acts more like he's Son of Gaston. Gaston's kid acts more like Kronk. Harry Hook also seems like he should be Jack Sparrow's kid.
So is Ursula still huge? Was she resurrected the same size as when she died? Because that tentacle is big.
Why isn't Hades bald? He should be bald, not... Whatever that hair is. His actor both looks and sounds like Michael Keaton Jr. Tell me I'm wrong.
He might not nail Hades overall, but the actor has angry Hades perfected. I don't remember where, but there's a point that he sounds exactly like James Woods (voice of Hades) when he's yelling.
...What is going on with Smee's kids? Isn't Mr. Smee just old? I never thought he was albino.
Dr. Facilier is actually a good dad? That's sweet. It's too bad they didn't pay to get Keith David, but this actor is a good stand-in.
Anyone else ship Jay with Son of Gaston? Apparently Harry Hook kissed Son of Gaston (I can't remember his name) in a deleted scene of the 2nd movie. I read Harry and Jay as bi, personally. Jay and Son of Gaston are really cute together! I see them as more than "bros" at the end.
I really wish the VK parents made a cameo at the end with Hades, Facilier, and Tremaine. Carlos makes it sound like at least Cruella is going to show up, but she doesn't. That actress was so good!
Beast Ben is 2cringe4me...
PBJ is his fave tho
I actually do like that awkward dork though. He has a good heart.
What happened to Lonnie after D2? She never gets even mentioned again?
Ugh, I just can't Doug's hair in D3. He doesn't pull it off. I hate how he became a possessive dweeb after the first movie too. I liked him better as a sweet and awkward dweeb. Put your glasses back on!
Also, the thought of Dopey having a kid is traumatizing.
And why isn't Melody, daughter of Ariel and Eric, a character? Zephyr, son of Esmeralda and Phoebus? Cassandra, daughter of (spoiler)?

yessssss ways to be wicked is a favorite of mine too, and all of the marlos 😌 i hadn't expected those marlos moments when i first started to watch descendants 2 but now they're some of the most iconic parts of the movie. i totally vibe with mal's wardrobe too. hmm do you have any favorite tropes or such for descendants characters? one of my favorite tropes is anything to do with magic, like witch evie.
Yasssssss, you have excellent taste Anon! WTBW appreciation time is upon us folks! I think it is one of, if not my actual favourite, group number. The vibes are just *chef's kiss* and exactlyyyyyy, the Marlos really snuck up on us and I think it really opened my eyes to all of the Marlos interactions, it definitely hooked me in and I think from just looking at my blog and my fics everyone can see how much I love the Marlos dynamic.
I love SO MANY tropes honestly, it's hard to pinpoint specific ones but I'll try my best. (Note, I think these are more headcanons and thoughts than tropes so sorry :']))
- Jock!Mal is a beloved of mine, I firmly believe that if Lonnie can join the fencing team then Mal could've joined the tourney team, because I would've loved to see Carlos and Evie bonding over chemistry y'know.
- I mean, I do love a good best friends to lovers...and I think that fits super well with many of my descendants faves honestly. All of the "and they shared a bed" but it doesn't faze any of them because they're so used to all cramming into one bed that it doesn't make a difference to them.
- Anytime they're sharing clothes, like borrowing Jay's hoodie, Jay giving Carlos his beanie, Evie draping a scarf around a grumpy Mal. Mal or Carlos wearing an oversized sweater or hoodie gives me such life, it's such a soft and perfect image But also I think it's because here are these kids that have only ever know to take and to only be out for themselves, that having feelings and caring about people is wrong. But here they are wanting to share something for these people who are the most important to them, wanting to share it. I just...I can't articulate what I mean properly but this!
- Character A: Yeah, I can’t make you do *thing,* but they can - character B: *smirks* - it works with any of them, I just. One pout from Evie or Carlos and they're done for.
- Evie playfully reprimanding the others for swearing but then she cusses ALL THE DAMN TIME. Like she mutters snarky shit under her breath and one time after a conversation with "King" Adam she told him to fuck off and then ran away. Just Evie being allowed to swear and be rude and be bitchy, I love bitchy!Evie. Because for most of her childhood she's been made to act a certain way, she's not been allowed to be angry, she's been taught that she must act a certain way and then when getting to Auradon she is forced into remedial goodness and she is stopped from acting the way she wants to act without consequences. And, I am not a fan of constantly shoving Evie into this "mom friend" role, when clearly that belongs to Jay, like Evie isn't always repremanding them - she can also cause chaos and be a bitch, whilst also being one of the nicest people you will ever meet. It's the duality she deserves.
- Always a sucker for protective Rotten four, especially protective Carlos because people seem to write him off as "weak" but when Carlos is mad? Like he's canonically the only one who stood up to their parents in the video chat scene?! Also how he is with Mal in D2, like if looks could kill RIP ben :'))) but also, I just love the idea of Carlos reigning hell fire on people for hurting the three people he cares about most
- That weapon trope where the person is like "hand over all of your weapons" and then keeps glaring at them until they've handed over ever weapon including the little piece of barbed wire in their pocket and taking out hairgrips. I'm sorry but Evie would have so many places to hide her weapons, all the pockets!!! Jay straight up trying to sneak weapons into his hat and everybody shrieking when Carlos pulls a dagger from his boot.
- All the magic! Mal has magic, Evie has magic, Jay has magic. EVERYONE GETS SOME MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just like the ideas of them all exploring their magic and my precious magical beloveds and Carlos supporting their magical endevours by encoruaging pranks and experiments with magic!!!
- Dragon Mal! But also, like her skin glittering and her being able to fly even when she's not fully transformed, her having little horns and scales along her arms. More of Mal and her dragon qualities and exploring those sides of her even, like partial transformations. Can she shapeshift into a smaller dragon? Do her scales change colour when her emotions do? When she's mad do the scales on her arms get more prominent? All of the dragon lore.
- Similarly, all the fae lore too. Like, I recently wrote a thing where I mentioned that Mal, being a fae or part-fae; doesn't get cold like the others, not that she doesn't get cold, but that it doesn't affect her as much as it does the others. like Mal's teeth being like little fangs, and her exploring her fae roots and what that means for her.
#descendants#winter exchange anon#rotten four#I love too many tropes to fully list but these are some of the more recent thoughts#also thank you for these questions!!

the darkest little paradise

Chapter 1
Hades sat in his living room, turning off the TV. His own kid was getting engaged, and he hadn’t even been able to meet the kid she was planning to marry.
He chuckled, wondering how things would’ve gone down if this had been way back when. The kid would’ve had to ask him, and if he’d gotten that far Hades would’ve said yes.
On the condition that the kid was the one to tell Mal’s mother of course, because there was no way Hades was getting in the way of his wife potentially crying over their daughter ‘growing up too fast’.
He had seen the tears when Mal started walking. And when she started talking, when her first word was ‘mama’? He had had to call her best friend to console her. Probably why gods weren’t typically too involved, he mused, the heartache of not knowing if your kid was immortal or not was excruciating.
He drank from the skull flask he’d traded for with the faux-pirate crew. Had to keep up the aesthetic somehow, and it wasn’t like he was able to get anything stronger than a weak ale. It was the only thing that kept for a long time, wouldn’t make you sick, and had some semblance of hydration.
He wondered if Mal remembered that she used to have to drink it too, or if she’d gotten so used to drinking lemonade and sodas, or whatever else they drank on the mainland. He didn’t really know, and didn’t have the energy to care anymore. She looked healthier, happier too. That’s all he needed to know about her new life.
-------
A few hours later, Mal was collapsing on her bed. She was tired of her father’s antics, tired of having so much pressure to both conform to Auradon’s standards yet stand up to the treatment that everyone on the Isle was given. She hated the decision she proposed, but no one else had come up with literally any other solution to the problem.
She reached over to her nightstand for her water bottle, and finding it empty, she threw it in the trash can that was currently full of tissues. Nightmares hadn’t been kind lately.
She froze as the plastic bottle hit the soft bed of long dried, tear and snot-stained tissues.
Kids on the Isle don’t get clean water, and here you are, contributing to pollution.
She went to the bathroom to wash up for the night.
Remember the cold saltwater that Mother always shoved your face in, eyes open? Remember the taste of lye soap?
She finished quickly, ignoring the accusing voice. Closing the barrier was best for everyone, it made sense. Da- Hades almost escaped today, what could happen next time?
You idiot. There’s always two sides to a story, you of all people know this.
The faces of the kids, trying to hide away as her father threw a fit about going home, being a god…..
The eyes haunted her the most. Dead, void of hope-
Hope you could’ve given them.
Void of anything but despair.
------
The way the sun shone into Kore’s apartment in the mornings should have been considered a crime. It was bright, it was overbearing, and it was way too early.
For Kore, it didn’t really matter anymore. She got up before sunrise every day, and had been for the last sixteen or so years.
In this case, as far back as she could remember.
She made her way to grab her jacket and gloves, ready to start sorting and gathering the ripe fruits and vegetables to be sent to the kitchens, just like every other day.
Hands pausing in tying her shoes, she realized that she’d never had to get new ones.
Strange, every other worker had gone through two pairs every other year.
But it was better if Kore didn’t dwell on it, of course. She wasn’t supposed to, that wasn’t her job.
She didn’t get paid to think about shoes, she got paid to tend the grounds the way nobody else could.
And this year, teach an elective about ‘plants, fae, and nymphs; the natural world of magic’.
It was a small summer class, but it was better than nothing.
Kore hurriedly made her way to the greenhouse, snapping her fingers after the doors closed, and summoned all the fruits and vegetables to the great big basket at the front.
Sorting out some stray carrots that got mixed in with the potatoes, she sang a mindless tune, not knowing how she knew the words.
“And I’ll sing you to sleep, and I’ll see you tomorrow
Bless you with love for the road that you go-”
The door opened. “Kore? Is that you singing in here?”
It was King Adam. “I was just passing by, your voice is lovely by the way. I haven’t heard that one, do you remember where it’s from?”
“I don’t think so,” Kore said, frowning over an oddly bent carrot. It reminded her of some sort of flame…. “I just started singing it out of boredom, I think. Do you think it’s some sort of lullaby I used to know?”
King Adam smiled thinly. “I don’t know if it’s best to dwell on it. I’m sure it’s nothing bad, but we don’t want to take any chances, now do we?”
Kore shook her head.
“Excellent. Now, these look positively splendid, I’m sure tonight’s potato soup will be excellent, all because of you, my dear.”
------
After tending to a sick flowerbed around one in the afternoon, changing into a pair of overalls and a breezy cotton button down (and no shoes) sounded really nice. Kore then made her way to her new classroom, with her new keys. Unlocking the door, she decided that she should probably look over who was in her class so far.
“Hey, you’re Lady Kore, right?”
Kore jumped, not having realized that a few kids had entered the classroom, or that the bell to dismiss the previous period had rung.
“Well I suppose I must be, you can just call me Kore though, I don’t have any titles, your majesty,” she said, nervously. Kore recognized the kid immediately.
Not knowing who Ben Florian was, was absolutely impossible, considering he was the king at this point.
“Oh, you don’t have to say ‘your majesty’, it doesn’t make sense, especially considering you’re the teacher here,” he said sheepishly.
“Alright then, should I call you Ben? I’ve heard you prefer your nickname over your full name.”
Before he could answer, the door banged open again. “Ben, you won’t believe what I just did- oh, I didn’t realize you weren’t the only one here.”
“It’s alright Evie, I was just talking with Kore here. We both don’t like titles, it seems,” he said in a relieved manner.
“It’s not that, it’s that I really don’t have one, Ben.”
He turned back to her. “How do you not have a title, but you’re teaching this class? I thought all the teachers had some sort of speciality and political say over it?”
Kore laughed, as more students followed Evie in and sat at the back of the small room. “It’s complicated, I’ll tell you in a minute.”
As everyone seemed to be settled, she decided to grab the clipboard with the class list on it. “Alright, if you hear your name say here, if I mispronounce it please let me know, and if your name is not called please let me know at the end. Ben Florian, I was just talking to you. Jay of Agrabah?”
“Here.” The voice came from the boy wearing blue and yellow leather, with a red beanie. Good luck working in that, a voice whispered, recognizing that leather and plant magic didn’t always mix well. Kore had no idea how she knew, but she decided that it must have happened before.
“Carlos De Vil?”
“Here.” A boy with a red and black flannel said, quietly. He doesn’t have the gift, how will he do this class? Wait- how do I know this?
“Evie Grimhilde?”
“Present!” What is it with these kids and leather?? At least this one has some shapeshifting magic, Kore thought, absentmindedly recognizing the way Evie’s eyes seemed to shift colors with the light, making her look more innocent. Just the way a student would want to on the first day of a new class.
“Jane Fae?”
“Also present.” Finally, someone who is dressed properly! The light blue shirt would probably get some dirt on it, but the jeans and tennis shoes, all noticeably with no wool, leather, or iron included, would work perfectly. Wool wasn’t necessarily taboo, but unless you were working with animals, it didn’t give any advantages.
“Doug Dwarfson?”
“Here.” Oh god. Dwarfs and plant magic? This’ll be interesting. Ah well, jeans and a casual t-shirt are better than- oh no, iron in the shoes. That’ll be reactive.
“Mal…doesn’t have a last name?”
“Yeah, the system erased it. I’m here, though.”
“Perfect. Alright, that’s everyone, time to head out. Leave your stuff here, it’s the last class of the day for a reason.”
Without another word, she grabbed some materials and books, and marched out of the room, only stopping and looking back when she realized none of them were following.
“Guys? We have to go to a better place for this, you know…”
“Uh, Lady Kore-”
“Just Kore, Ben.”
“Right, my bad. Kore, I thought this was more theoretical, take notes on what’s possible, kind of class?”
Kore snorted. “I don’t mean to laugh, Ben, but if that were the case, they wouldn’t have delayed teaching this for so long. Finding someone with nature based magic, someone willing to teach, and someone who knows plants intimately? Harder to find than you’d think.”
“Haven’t you been here for years though?” Jay interrupted, coming to the door.
“I have. Unfortunately, I don’t have any claim to a title, so they didn’t realize my qualifications until this summer. Shall we proceed?”
Making their way outside, they chatted amongst themselves as Kore was deep in thought as to where to go.
“Alright class, this is Greenhouse 13. It’s mostly empty right now, but it will be where we go from now on, unless I tell you otherwise. If something changes at the last minute, I’ll try and put a note on the door so you know to go to the classroom.”
Unlocking the door, it creaked open with Kore’s push.
“The iron in here is less than it is in the other greenhouses, can anyone tell me why that matters?”
Evie chimed in. “Because iron causes burns and injuries to fairies.”
“Correct. They do prefer to be called the Fae, in some cases, exactly like Jane’s last name. If they refer to themselves as Fae, you need to be very careful. They can twist the truth very easily, and they have lots of stories about them for a reason. However,” she paused, turning on the lights at the back of the greenhouse. “That doesn’t mean you should automatically be suspicious of them or their intentions. Many Fae in this day and age don’t really care about all the things they used to, they generally mind themselves and how they phrase things.”
“What was my mother?”
The class looked at Mal, who had suddenly become very invested. “Before her banishment, or whatever.”
“Maleficent was an interesting case,” Kore bit her lip, not sure how she knew. “She was a fairy, yes, but some of her actions would suggest that she could be classified as Fae. However, she was under……” This was where Kore cursed her lost memory. Only knowing the last sixteen years, when she had been working at the castle was perfectly inconvenient for moments like this.
“Under what?”
“Call it a sort of jurisdiction. Forgive me, my memory isn’t all there, though of course Ben might know?”
All eyes turned to the teenage boy, who was sitting against a wall, ready for the class to start. “Uh, I think you’re right. I can’t remember who though, it’s not common knowledge.” He chuckled. “Honestly I’m surprised that you know, Kore.”
“I think I must have worked on something before working here, something with…...whatever it was. Ah well, shall we get started?”
