Birth of a Nation revitalized the KKK in America and is perhaps the only piece of "irredeemable media" I can think of that's actually like. You know, a story, and I don't know of anything else off the top of my head that had that kind of lasting, palpably harmful impact that isn't like, direct state mandated propaganda like Mein Kampf. In 1915 the KKK was effectively dead, they'd slowly dissolved around the 1870s (particularly after the introduction of the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871) and Birth of a Nation led to the most notorious American terrorist group reforming. As far as I'm concerned, DW Griffith has actual blood on his hands, for murders committed at the very least through the 40s (they disbanded temporarily in 1944 after America's most effective violent crime task force, the IRS, got involved, though it could be argued he's only responsible for murders committed by the KKK through the 20s, as membership declined rapidly after that once people saw that being part of a terrorist organization wasn't like how it was in the movie).
And like, look I generally don't think the word "irredeemable" can really be applied to art in any form, but there is something viscerally reprehensible about Birth of a Nation that makes us not want to watch it. Like it (arguably) pioneered a lot of film techniques but that's more of the science side of film than the art side, I'm completely certain that people would have figured out that contrasting long shots with close-ups made movies more interesting if Birth of a Nation was left on the cutting room floor. (In fact, several of the techniques 'pioneered' by Birth of a Nation were actually from earlier films, it's just that DW Griffith was more popular and his films are the ones that were remembered). But like we don't screen this movie publicly, we don't like it, we don't like the what DW Griffith had to say. Birth of a Nation just... repels people away from it. Its in person screenings are relegated to a few film classes and maybe some klan meetings, though I'm certain there are some racists on 4chan who've downloaded a copy. If you ask normal people to pick one movie to stop existing, there's no way out of it you have to pick one, chances are they'll pick Birth of a Nation, assuming they've even heard of it (my first exposure to it was in high school, some people might not get to it until college, or even later, that's just kind of what happens with something like this. It's not like you can learn about something through cultural osmosis when the culture is trying like hell to osmosis that thing out of itself). It's an acceptable loss.
Meanwhile, from what I've read, I'd say the decision to use A Serbian Film alongside Birth of a Nation is actually a reasonable one, not because of the graphic nature of it's content, but rather its themes and message and how flat it can feel because of who's saying it (DISCLAIMER: I haven't watched it, I'm not going to watch it, take this with a grain of salt). It's about a man who's forced to commit horrific crimes to survive (economically, though he may be directly threatened with death I'm not sure, he's doing it as a job basically). If you'll recall, Serbia committed genocide during the Bosnian War in the 90s, the targets being primarily Bosniaks but also including anyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina that wasn't Serbian.
The director of the film, Srđan Spasojević, had this to say when asked if the acts depicted in the film were related in any way to crimes committed during the Yugoslav Wars:
A Serbian Film does not touch upon war themes, but in a metaphorical way deals with the consequences of post-war society and a man that is exploited to the extreme in the name of securing the survival of his family.
Additionally, he described the film as "a diary of our own molestation by the Serbian government ... It's about the monolithic power of leaders who hypnotize you to do things you don't want to do. You have to feel the violence to know what it's about."
A Serbian Film is an exploitation film that's apparently considered one of the most disturbing of all time, but the film is not a snuff film as many people have claimed. A snuff film is the filming of actual gruesome crimes like murder, torture, and rape, committed for the purpose of selling the resulting film and making money. It's not "a movie that depicts gruesome crimes like murder, torture, and rape through the use of special or practical effects."
Based on the quick read-through of the Wikipedia article I did, it seems like most of what the film is trying to say is through the lens of the aftermath of the Yugoslav Wars, or at least that's how the audience largely interpreted it. The script writer, Aleksandar Radivojević, said this about the process of securing funding for the film and the state of the Serbian film industry in general.
you had this EU arts council funded production using Serbia for EU's political agitprop agenda of 'promoting tolerance and reconciliation in the post-war Balkans' by boosting sappy local projects of no aesthetic value whose sole reason for receiving EU financing was their respective authors' willingness to amplify the EU-approved message, i.e. to express 'Serb contrition over what happened in the Yugoslav Wars' via essentially making victim porn, showing small miserable Serb people who are struggling mightily while nevertheless simultaneously 'doing their part in search of collective redemption' by being extremely remorseful
Now, I'm a white American who does not experience racism of any kind, let alone the violently dehumanizing prejudice necessary to convince a group of people to commit an ethnic cleansing, but if my people had been the victims of a genocide, and I heard someone from the group of people that committed that genocide complain about media depicting his people's remorse, and saw that that guy also wrote a movie where the plot is a man is forced to commit gruesome rapes, and again, my people were gruesomely raped as a part of that guy's country's plan to wipe my people from existence, I'd be fucking pissed. Like again, I haven't seen A Serbian Film, and Radivojević wasn't the only person in the writer's room, so maybe in practice it reads less as "our government was controlling us we did nothing wrong" and more "our government is controlling us and we're monsters for listening." And we can argue the merits of the latter another time, but at least the latter acknowledges that genocide doesn't happen in a vacuum because some schmucks at the top said so, that the people bear as much responsibility as their government.
Now, is A Serbian Film actually trying to say anything about the Yugoslav Wars at all? I don't know. I haven't seen it. Maybe it isn't about the Bosnian genocide at all. But then what is it saying about Serbia? Serbian actor Dragan Bjelogrlić said this about the film and its director, a year after its release:
I have a problem with A Serbian Film. Its director in particular. I've got a serious problem with this boy whose father got wealthy during the 1990s—nothing against making money, but I know how money was made [in Serbia] during the '90s—and then pays for his son's education abroad and eventually the kid comes back to Serbia to film his view of the country using his dad's money and even calls the whole thing A Serbian Film. To me that's a metaphor for something unacceptable. The second generation comes back to the country and using the money that had been robbed from the people of Serbia, smears the very same people by portraying them as the worst scum of the earth.
OP was right, it's fucking insane that this site only uses words like irredeemable media to talk about cartoons for children. Like, no, Steven Universe or The Owl House or My Hero Academia or whatever TV-Y7 cartoon you're hyper focused on that week isn't irredeemable media. Your bar for even discussing it as a possibility is "did this story's public existence revitalize a terrorist organization and lead to several murders," a qualification which A Serbian Film, despite its content, themes, and possible interpretations, does not meet. It's offensive, and disturbing, it possibly excuses genocide, but as far as I've read, no one has gotten physically hurt because it exists.
A Serbian Film is more violently graphic than Birth of a Nation. Birth of a Nation did more to physically harm real people than A Serbian Film ever could.
It's fucking wild that the above reaction to A Serbian Film mentions next to nothing about what it's trying to say, how well it works, who's saying it and in what context, but focuses purely on the graphic and violent scenes depicted in the film. It's probably why they slapped Salo on at the end even though a cursory glance through Wikipedia (I don't care enough to read thoroughly on the plot and themes you get the point graphic exploitation films aren't inherently evil for depicting murder or rape or whatever I don't want to read about more graphic shit it's not something I personally enjoy doing) reveals that that film is strictly antifascist, though several actors were actually injured during filming. Notably, the director of Salo, Pier Paolo Pasolini, was gruesomely abducted, tortured, and murdered in 1975 shortly before Salo's release at the Paris Film Festival. He was openly gay, and a Marxist, and while his death was initially contributed to one Giuseppe Pelosi (17 at the time of the murder) after he confessed, he later retracted his confession claiming that he made it under the threat of violence to his family (which unfortunately tracks, Americans may recall the more recent case of Amanda Knox, who was arrested in 2007 for the murder of her friend and forced by Italian police to confess to a crime she didn't commit and was later exonerated from). The case was reopened after Giuseppe's retraction in 2005 and other evidence that had come to light, and as of 2023 the Italian authorities are looking at the far right group Banda della Magliana as possible suspects. While I agree that "I hear it's kind of. nasty" is frankly an understatement when attempting to discuss the graphic content of Salo, and really fucking hilarious in the context of trying to argue that Salo shouldn't exist at all, I don't know that that's really a fair criticism to make, considering the other two examples are if not directly far right (using the term because of the changing political landscape between 1915 and 2010, like I can't really call Birth of a Nation fascist because it was made before fascism was a fully congealed political ideology, even if it upholds the ideology of fascism) then at least debatably so. As previously established, the actual content of the film, as in, the acts depicted, don't immediately make a work reprehensible. Remember, A Serbian Film is more graphic and disturbing to watch than Birth of a Nation, but Birth of a Nation is worse than A Serbian Film.
Tldr; op is right, and the person whose tags have been drowned is exactly the kind of person op was talking about
'Irredeemable media' is such a funny concept to me because it's never used for stuff like Birth of a Nation or A Serbian Film. It's always The Owl House or My Hero Academia because these people only watch things for children and can't stand any conflict more complex than Super Mario Brothers.
#i could go on about birth of a nation and its effect on american history#i dont think that if the film was never made then racism would be solved forever or anything#i dont even know for sure if the kkk would've never reformed if it hadnt been made#and even though i think we should treat it the way germany treats the swastika its still like#important to talk about it you know#its important that people know what it is and what it did#sometimes modern callbacks to that film fall a little flat#like the 2016 birth of a nation which was about nat turner#i remember the title causing some confusion cause like#a lot of the time people will get movie titles before they get a plot summary so#people thought they were remaking birth of a nation for a little bit#that part in hamilton where theyre like ''im taking my time watching the afterbirth of a nation'' works better#its a good callback that makes it clear that i think its burr or the ensemble or maybe both#that theyre not just talking about the constitution but theyre also talking about all the other shit#like the three fifths compromise and the slave trade act#iirc the off Broadway version talks about slavery like they're not afraid to bring it up but#in the actual finished musical this is one of the few instances where the cast isnt making direct eye contact with the audience#and saying ''slavery was bad'' and unlike some other parts in the show where#it kinda feels like theyre glossing over it#specifically with Jefferson as I dont believe claims that Hamilton owned slaves were substantiated until after the musical was written#like historians suspected he did but nothing concrete was found until 2020#not to say that what was known about hamiltons involvement in the slave trade wasnt minimized#but the afterbirth of a nation line is very effective#slaps hood its good writing#cw rape mention

general society is such an underthought aspect of mha. obviously there’s the big things like the obsession over heroic quirks and the demonisation of villainous quirks. quirkless people are dismissed entirely but i don’t think we talk about how society in general would have to handle a world with super powers.
we know after afo’s first uprising, the government overcorrected and outlawed public quirk usage. we know people have their quirks registered and go through quirk counselling as well as a type of gym class where they practice under teacher supervision.
how in the hell is that supposed to work?
the closest equivalent i can think of is mental health services. someone would have to study for a long time to be able to pursue quirk counselling as a career. it’s also a highly personalised system: everyone has a different quirk - even similar ones have different activations, triggers, exceptions and drawbacks - so no two sessions could ever be the same. if anyone’s been through mental health services, you know how rough it is; it’s an overworked, underpaid system and if you live somewhere that only offers a few free visits, it can also be expensive.
and that’s an elective service.
almost everyone on the planet would need quirk counselling.
there’s no way they could implement such a labour intensive and individual public system and we literally see that they can’t.
we see the gym class in amajiki’s flashback and he only has a few minutes with his teacher before he’s chided for not being more impressive and utilising his quirk to the fullest and they move on to the next student. say a standard class is twenty students like it is at ua. that leaves just over two minutes for each student to learn and practice their quirks. you can’t focus on just one kid per lesson bc what will the other nineteen do? do teachers also have to have a degree in quirk counselling? is that part of becoming a phys ed teacher or is it some random joe schmo trying to wrap his head around literal super powers?
given that inko goes to garaki - a doctor - to confirm izuku’s quirklessness, it can be assumed that quirk counselling is entwined with the medical system. i don’t know if you’ve ever had to apply for a specialist before but you can be on their waiting list for a while. a quirk counsellor is essentially a specialist. are there subcategories of counsellors? do you focus on either emitter, transformation or mutation the way doctors become cardiologists, paediatricians and neurologists? or is one person expected to be equally knowledgeable about all three?
we see through toga that her counsellor identified her need for blood but they didn’t find a way to curb those instincts or even find a supplement for her. she’s left to be abused by her family for something she can’t control bc it’s literally in her dna. compare that to iida who knows he needs orange juice to power his quirk. his entire family are pro heroes so it would be easy to assume they could employ a private quirk counsellor the same way richer people can employ private doctors.
how many people have specific requirements due to their quirks? changes in their physiology that have to be treated the same way nutritional deficiencies and allergies do? even people without mutations probably have those requirements: does kirishima’s shark teeth mean he’s an obligate carnivore? does mina’s acid change her ph levels and what vitamins and minerals she needs? how would they figure that out? quirk counselling.
what about kids like touya who would need extensive counselling so he could figure out how to live with his quirk without hurting himself? kaminari essentially has seizures and they’re so normal to him and everyone around him that they’re the butt of jokes. they wouldn’t be a one and done patient; there’s always going to be people that need continued support the exact same way there’s people that need developmental and disability support. there would be so many quirks that harm their user, are they just taught to bury their quirks? as if that wouldn’t cause any physical or mental consequences?
governments can’t create a system that applies to only some people, we’re expected to believe they’ve made one that applies to all of them?
#bnha#my hero academia#mha meta#i imagine its similar to therapy in that the first session would be free since its probably required in order to register a child’s quirk#they probably figure out activation in that time and thats it#onto the next kid bc there will always be another kid#you want more information on your child’s power? you better be able to pay for more sessions#even quirkless people need to be fully assessed to ensure theyre quirkless#i doubt anyone else is as interested in this as i am but it feels like just another world building aspect horikoshi just kinda skipped#quirk counselling is just sort of thrown in with toga and curious and it becomes just another concept that is brought up and discarded#quirk counselling quirklessness mutant prejudice the quirk singularity theory general mutations outside of mutant quirks#theres so many little interesting concepts that are never given the development they deserve#and when they are like in the last few chapters its done in such a shallow handwavy way that i wish hed just leave them alone altogether#no wonder the plf exists quirks are so suppressed in society while also being a status symbol#and yet its a completely hypothetical advantage if they dont become a hero or a villain#if a kid has a heroic quirk theyre held on a pedestal and if they have a villainous one theyre demonised at best and abused at worst#koichi was almost given a fine bc he was using his quirk to get through foot traffic quicker how is there not a riot every year about#quirk freedom and rights violations?#and yet its completely glossed over#go beyond plus ultra#coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt#mha

Okay guys this is becoming a tradition of me seeing films recently so heres a
Sonic 3 review from a technical standpoint
Tumblr media
Look im no film critic or anything, but i AM an animator and theres a lot of. Things. I see whether I want to or not. Its just how my brain is wired because of my profession lol
(This is full of spoilers btw so now's your time to fast scroll away)
Anyway lets begin!
The movie is great. Cool even. I liked it! But theres a lot of direction decision that I am just. Baffled by I guess?
First of all- the models are different. (Httyd ass moment) And the way they sculpted the characters lips absolutely destroys anything theyre trying to emote. It looks like theyre CONSTANTLY pursing their lips. Like they ate a lemon. Do you understand? Sonic also has much more pronounced brows which makes him look more pissed off constantly LOL
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Sonic 1 model vs sonic 3 models, pay attention to the lips]
Eggman and Dr Stone had possibly the best interactions in the entire movie. Their dynamic was fantastic, and I would argue they kinda carried the movie. Unfortunately! The ending left their issues unresolved. And Dr Stone looked entirely unbothered by the possible death of Eggman.
This brings me to some writing choices that I feel may be due to... Either infantalising or time cuts. The storyboarding of this film was just. God how do I even describe this. It feels like a lot of crucial scenes where cherry picked to be deleted between shots. Thats not good at all- and while character continuity WAS there, it really did feel like something crucial was missing in some scenes. This is especially evident in the Chao Garden scenes. Specifically when the general dies (WHY DOES HE DIE LIKE THAT. WE DIDNT EVEN SEE THE RUBBLE GO ANYWHERE OR PIN ANYONE DOWN OR SEE MASS PANIC FOR PEOPLE TO DIE?) The characters COMPLETELY gloss over his death- a death that feels like its out of a show for 8 year olds Im not going to lie to you. He just flops, delivers a line, and thats it.
It feels like the two halves of the movie were written by two different writers.
The first half is weak. The jokes are stale. And the storybeats almost feel off. The actions scenes- while there's nothing particularly offendish about them- don't *hit*. If you're an animator or writer you understand that important beats need to pack a punch. It was severely lacking in packing punches in the first half.
I also wanna speak to the animators. Are you okay? Was this made on tight deadlines? Where is the fun and whimsy? Did you outsource this? Did you give your workers a good environment or were they crunching and hating life? Or did you hire younger animators with no senior feedback because they're cheaper to hire?
Look, the animation is good. Just that. Its good. Its TV show standard, not movie standard. Its lacking a good push to the poses, its using slow keyframing between poses instead of it being snappy, with good silhouettes, with good visual gags. Instead were left with this.. subpar passable animation for every character instead of something energetic and snappy like Sonics personality. I think this is where I take the most issue with because guys come on. You didnt push the models to their limits at ALL. And Sonics speedy running is... Well read my previous points. Where are the fundamentals of animation about exaggeration? Not in Sonics run cycle.
The second half of the movie carried the first half on its back thanks to Eggman. I am SO GLAD to see giant spaceships and mechs and whatnot. Thats great! Loved to see the lovely mech models and once again- interactions between Eggman and Dr Stone. Id go as far as say they should be gay tbh (hello? The scene where theyre tied up?)
I didn't bring up Shadow entirely so far. And honestly Ive no notes about him. All my notes are entirely about just the animation and not hitting the beats well. His characterisation was great- it actually explains his aggression pretty well and then redemption. Genuinely the last arc of the movie was fantastic. And finally we got to hear a rock score to go with it. Maria was fun, the flashbacks were fun, the scientific exploration was fun. All in the second half of the movie of course!
My overall score is 6/10.
To untrained eyes the movie is going to be extremely fun- if a little more childish in some parts than others. I'm glad they took some risky moments, I'm glad the characterisation is well written. I just wish other aspects were tightened down, mainly animation and storyboarding.
6/10 but I never thought Id leave the cinema with the thoughts "I could storyboard some of these scenes in a lot more meaningful way, and Im not even a storyboarder."
Tumblr media
I recommend a watch! Its not a bad movie. Its not a rock-it-out-of-the-park movie either though. I feel like maybe all the anticipation and high expectations maybe made it not as gut punching for me as it couldve been. Overall, all I can gleam from it is theres a lot of things to improve on! But nothing that really destroys it or makes it bad. Just a lot of room for improvement.
Thanks for reading!

heyy girl i think if u haven’t what abt u write a dbf miguel x reader ik i see so many but theyre so gd to read they get me so invested every time🤷🏽‍♀️
summary: you’ve just come home from college for christmas but there’s a stranger in your bedroom
a/n: dbf as in dads best friend or dad boy friend? 😭 i’d do either but for this i’ll do dads best friend bc… yh. also tysm for the request it means sm 😚😚😚 also I guess this is a fic now? Bc I kinda hate one shots bci can never cut down on lore and stuff.
❤️
You hadn’t realised how easily college had managed to seep its way into every aspect of your life, pulling you away from both your family and social life, until you came home for Christmas.
Everyone looks so different, your mum is more colourful and chirpy, your father is healthier and your brother is surprisingly mature. But what takes you most by surprise is the lack of silence that has taken them by storm. When you had come home for the summer most of your stay had been filled with an uncomfortable but unfortunately familiar silence following you around but now, you can’t shut them up.
The entirety of the drive home from the train station is full of chatter, and for once they include you. They seem so genuinely invested about you that you don't even question the randomness of their questions, ranging from the journey home and the local shops that surround your campus.
“I heard that there's one of those pretentious, hipster coffee places nearby,” your dad claims from the driver's seat, not bothering to look around at you.
“Vegan?” you offer dryly, unsure of it he knows you work there or not.
“That's it!” he clicks proudly, resulting in both you and your brother sharing a sigh.
Part of you hopes that it’s because of you; that maybe they realised how much they loved you while you were gone and now feel overjoyed at your return. There’s a feeling of doubt floating around in your mind, telling you that this is just a random occurrence, but you push it to the side, wanting to focus on the positive and unrealistic.
***
Your brother helps you lug your suitcase into the house claiming, ‘It’s the least I can do’ which is surreal coming from someone who hasn’t written to you the entirety of your time away. You hand him your antler clifton all the same, glad you didn't have to carry it across the drive as well as up the stairs.
The warmth from the house welcomes you in, the softness of the heated air a stark difference from the harsh bitterness from outside. The sweet smell of cinnamon and gingerbread candles lures you in so soothingly that you don't even notice the extra pair of shoes neatly paired together with the rest by the front door.
“I'll leave it here,” your brother mutters before sliding across the floorboards towards the living room on the heels of his feet- not as mature as you presumed. You smile half-heartedly with a small nod, jealous of how easily he can dismiss himself.
And suddenly you’re alone again, left to your own devices as your parents go start dinner and your brother now yelling into his mic from the living room. It hurts slightly, moments ago they were all over you, so invested in you and your life that you forgot what they're truly like. It's the way it always been and you're a fool for thinking otherwise.
You scold yourself for being so naive as to believe that they'd changed, that they weren't as self-absorbed as they used to be, before pulling yourself away from your sea of negative thoughts.
You stare at your suitcase, bright white light shining on it from the lamp hanging above your head, and decide to leave it there, too tired to carry it upstairs to your room.
The steps creak under your weight as you slouch up the stairs, one hand idly dragging across the chipped bannister. You can't count how many times your dad’s tried to repaint it, how much money he's spent on overpriced glosses and varnishes, how many hours he's spent sanding the thing down.
As you cross the landing, thick carpet dampening the sound of your steps, you the bathroom door left ajar and the soft heat emanating from it. Which is… weird because both your parents and your brother are downstairs. But you shrug it off, too fed up to care, and drag yourself over to your bedroom, head drooping downwards with fatigue.
Casually, you push your door open, expecting the room to be empty and your bed freshly made as it often is when you come home for the holidays. Except it isn't.
Soft jazz music hums throughout the room, playing from a speaker you can't quite place, and the smell of an intoxicatingly strong aftershave clings to the air. Your walls are still decorated with the wallpaper you had when you left but it's covered in various posters. Some are boring and presumably scientific based on the array of symbols, whereas others are insanely niche but you don't really put too much effort into trying to understand them- you're too distracted by the man standing in the middle of your room, half naked and dripping with water.
He's tall, intimidatingly so, but the soft dimples that form in his cheeks as he smiles down at you soothe your nerves- slightly.
“Hey,” he grins down at you, head now cocked to the side and pats his ear causing water droplets to drip onto your carpeted floor.
You blink at him, completely dumbstruck and unsure of what to do. “What the fuck?” you breathe shakily, palms clamming up as your brain desperately flickers between arousal and fear.
The man’s brow furrows at your anxious tone and his smile falters slightly. “I think I should be the one cursing here,” he jests, tone annoyingly light, “you’ve just walked into my room without knocking or anything.”
“You're room?” you scoff, arms folding across your chest. “You're the stranger here, not me.”
He grins at your attitude, those dimples presenting themselves again. “I’m offended, has it been that long since you've last seen me?” he questions, large hand splayed across his chest feigning offence.
You pause for a moment and let your gaze scan him for a moment. He looks familiar, dark slicked back hair and mahogany eyes that are simultaneously scrutinizing and sympathetic.
“A la mierda, querida, have you really forgotten me?” he teases.
And then it clicks. You feel so embarrassed now, for not recognising him. Miguel, your dad’s best friend who you haven't seen for years, is finally visiting again.
He does look different now, though. He's still tall and his face is as chiselled as ever, though there are creases in his skin from when he's smiled too often or squinted too hard at the sun, but he's bulked up a considerable amount. His biceps look bigger than your thighs, tensing and relaxing with every slight movement and shining with the shower water in the yellow light of the evening sun. In fact, his entire body is covered in muscles, and what you can see of his lower half is toned, covered in dark tufts of hair, yes, but the curvature of each muscle is still visible.
He clears his throat and you realise that you’ve been staring longer than intended, shame burning hot on your neck.
“Sorry,” you mutter, “about not recognising you.”
He shrugs off your apology, which irks you slightly but you push past it, and smile once again. “I look different, old age is catching up on me.”
That's definitely what's different.

Can we get some more hcs for the post anon and you made about Soda and Curly being brought together but also pushed away by them helping pony (I hope you know what I'm talking about idk how to explain it 😭)
YEA I DO NO WORRIES I GOT THIS
•OK SO, to b clear, mainly what i mean by “brought together but also pushed away from each other bc of their relationship w pony” i mean that they both agree that pony needs help or something like that, they can just never agree on how
•to add on, they both have parts of their character that they can relate to when it comes to each other, theyre both middle children who r pretty much glossed over in the public eye and arent seen as 3 dimensional as their siblings and they COULD form a friendship generally speaking from that, but how they interact w pony throws each other way tf off (hope this made sense)
•when pony gets hurt, curly and soda kinda act the same way, for example, both go to their older brothers for help
•but the thing is, the other feels like the others brother wont help, curly feels like darry wont do jack shit and just lets it continue, soda feels like tim would just make things worse for pony bc that would make him a target
•they both quite literally have the equivalent of spidey senses when it comes to pony being in trouble
•idk how to summarize this one, but curly feels like soda babys pony way too much and soda feels like curly makes pony grow up too fast
•if pony rolls up to one of em w something he got from the other, they both have the same reaction and its like “why did he give u that, u shouldnt have that, get rid of it”, they KNOW the other is trying to help (at least to some degree) but honestly they see them as more of a nuisance
•ngl part of the reason y they dont agree on how to take care of pony is prolly bc they dont realize that pony acts like differently w em, or if they did, they feel like how pony acts around them is the “true” pony
•they wont say it but they do commend each other for fighting for pony or at least trying to protect pony, once soda patched curly up after fighting to protect pony, thats like the nicest they ever were to each other
•they both look out for pony during a rumble, chances r they wouldve tag teamed that soc that kicked pony in the head if curly was there, never wouldve brought it up that they did that ever again tho
•if they were in like a place where they gotta stay on high alert, they’d both agree that pony should stay behind them in case anything popped up, but they r lowkey just pushing pony to them, its lowkey a game of tug of war

i feel a slight weirdness about the huge presence of maned wolves in furry spaces.. as in maned wolves are awesome and one of my favorites animals ever, and they look cool it makes sense why furries like them. but the same way maned wolves and also capybaras are so popular in english internet spaces in art and memes n shit i still feel weirdly defensive about them and somewhat sad that south american animals native from my home country are very appreciated but also it seems like the fact theyre south american is just glossed over and ignored. like does that make sense. that i feel kinda heart broken at seeing a white usamerican furry have a maned wolf fursona and see this animal im familiar with be turned into an American. does it make any sense that for some reason i gatekeep animals

THEYRE FUCKING DEAD
... probably.
So just re watched the shadybug special (for the 3rd time) . The first two watch throughs i understood that they were dYING actively, but it took this most recent re watch for me to even consider the possibility that they might be... dead. Maybe its because i just watched the London special recently, yk the one that is specifically about the aftereffects of Gabes death, or the fact that chronologically this special takes place IMMEDIATELY after the episode Gabe gets cataclysmed ( the thing that *basically* killed him) but i feel like it would make perfect sense for shadybug and claw noir to have died (relatively) shortly after the special. The whole theme of shadybugs special is that they are the direct opposites of each others parallel selves, while still maintaining lots of personality traits and key plot factors that keep them similar, almost mirroring each other. I don't think its a coincidence they chose destruction as the episode they would have the special follow in the timeline, especially when you remember this special was released after the season 5 finale where gabe died. However the thing that made me realize that they might have actually died was that that they didnt really fix any of their problems. They kinda just glossed over any major plot problems like, how they would fix shadybug and claw noir's damage that they got from their miraculouses, or how top stop the supreme. Instead the moral of the story was that they were a team and had hope. While the sentiment was nice and tied the perfect bow that pulled the whole special together , it doesn't feel realistic that everything went according to plan when you consider Gabes fate. And they clearly want you to compare the their fates based release AND timeline order.
guess the price to evil is death.

Bakugou and Midoriya's Relationship Pre-main-cannon Analysis
Ok so I keep reading posts where people seem to think Bakugou has hard-core bullied Izuku for 10 straight years and Im here to squash that. So a kinda analysis of their relationship though the years based off what we know and all major shifts that I think happen based off cannon. As well as some inferred just based off how kids act at certain ages.
Relationship Timeline Guestimation:
Tumblr media
This is my best guess on a timeline towards each other.
I would say the biggest guess in this is when the passive bullying actually started. Im guessing end of elementary and start of junior high just based off how kids usually are at that age (friendships shift, preteens try to be cool, purberty starts, ect.)
The biggest theme to their whole relationship is miscommunication so I labeled the timeline based off what an outside POV might label their relationship.
Preschool
Activity regular friends without Katsuki being a massive jerk. Before quirks and then Katsuki gets a big head ect. Most of that is covered extensively in flashbacks in the manga so Im gona gloss over this era.
Elementary
There's not a lot thats been shown directly at this time beyond what we've been shown in the manga (ie Izuku being nicknamed deku). So slightly inferred just based off their personalities and overall age.
Theyre actively friends but Katsuki gets worst and worst through the years and more distant. Though they actually have interations. Plus both these boys are so stubborn that I think theyed stay friendsish through elementary.
So we know they interacted and were around each other:
Tumblr media
They were both friends at this point or at least like playmates and I think would continue through a lot of elementary especially early elementary.
Cause its not like Katsuki was popular with most people unsurprisingly:
Tumblr media
Even if Katsuki really didnt want it, I think Izuku was one of the only friends that actively showed he cared about him. Even if he really didn't want it.
But with Katsukis insecurities and his kinda warped view of Izuku their friendship was pretty off and on again. Basically at this point in their relationship they both think the other is a slightly jerky friend but still actively care for each other. They get on each others nerves but still consider the other a friend. Also cause theyre in elementary, kids usually just play with whoever is closest and available. Since they lived in the same neiborhood and both have no sibling they would probably be first available for each other, inspite of feelings or insecurities.
Eventually though Katsukis insecurities would win out. (Which to note those really only ever come up when comparisons can come into play or when Katsuki could be precieved as needing help). And Katsuki has the same self awareness emotionally as a cat whos head is stuck in a bag. So he projects those insecurities hard onto Izuku, instead of actual self reflection.
To sum up elementary:
Tumblr media
Early Middle School
Turning point from my guess is when Izuku tries to stand up to Katsuki and I think this is where they officially end any friendship and the bullying towards Izuku officially starts. I interpret this scene as either later elementary school or early middle school based off the lankyness of everybody:
Tumblr media
So middle of middle school and note that Izuku isnt as actively freaked out by Katsuki approaching. So Katsuki after whenever he beat-up Izuku essentially reaffirm to himself that Izuku cant be a threat, and that he is still the best. Thus calm Katsuki at the start of Middle School. Still a jerk whenever he sees Izuku but doesnt seem to feel the need to actually seek him out. Mostly just dismissive belittling.
Plus no full on Baku-rage directed at Izuku:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course as anything hero related starts to come up and Izuku ends up doing his normal thing. Katsuki, like always, gets triggered cause Izuku hits every insecuritie he has.
Turning point happens when Katsuki feels threatened by Izuku again:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thus Baku-rage is officially engaged! And series starts!

can i have some fun facts about sumiko please :3 🤲🤲
HI KIT!! OFC!! if this gets long, my bad. i sometimes get a little insane about my own inserts and their lore because its based off so many dreams and studying. THANK U FOR ASKING BTW!!
sumiko was born as li fānguá, but to assimilate better into japan, she goes by sumiko. (any pronouns, she/they/he) he doesn't... really like being in japan but they have no choice now. and they became a demon slayer to protect her younger brother after their host family basically left them for dead. they are a reincarnation of k0kus wife and all of her rage and hurt from being left by him when he decided to run off and become a fuckass demon. sumiko is now the rainbow hashira!
ONTO THE FUNFACTS!!
sumiko is related to muichiro! not like close, close, but sumiko is technically muichiro's great, great, great (how many) grandma! since well sumiyo (her past life) and michi had kids who had kids. you know what i mean. i am so smart. muichi is very close so sumiko and kinda sees her like a mother figure. sumiko shows the same motherly love and tries her best to protect and guide him. wants him to eat his vegetables and treats him to sweets when she can. the only other two she shows htis same energy towards is nezuko and tanji
she's the same height as shinobu *4'11! the only difference is that she's stronger than her. sumiko understands shinobu. but she isnt a therapist and she will not play the role of a therapist so she doesn't... bother telling shinobu about her understanding or even trying to help her emotionally. thats.. not her problem LMFAO.
tried to kill giyu. its.. a long story. but after seeing nezuko and tanjiro and how giyu protected them. she kinda went ballistic and tried to choke giyu in his sleep. she stopped herself when she realized what she was doing and apologized to him. they never told anyone what happened. but he ends up avoiding giyu as much as possible ever since the incident.
i have main character syndrome, but ill gloss over it bc of embarrassment. but he has special blood. so muuuzan took an interest in him and took him into the infinity castle for experimenting and figuring out how he can use it. (if sumiko dies, the blood loses all of its special attributes) this is how he's reunited with k0kushibo who recognizes him instantly. sumiko willingly went with muuumuuu
sumiko gets along well with akaza and nakime. strangely enough has a lot of respect for them and doesn't try to cause any problems with them. uhm avoids doma cause he knows what doma does in his spare time and doesn't want to end up next. (although sumiko considers just.. dying at one point out of guilt and feeling like he betrayed everyone)
lets end on smth happy cause this shit is angsty as fuck. he really likes noodles. theyre his favorite in the entire world. (what kind of noodles? everything related to it.) its really cute because everyone sees him happily slurping at it and they tease him about it because he doesnt normally seem so happy like that. he used to share meals with muichi, rengoku, and mitsuri the most! despite everything, he does have friends! (....only two... which...are mitsuri and rengoku....) (his ass is so lonely and its his FAULTT STOP ACTING LIKE THAT AND BE NORMAALLL)
yeah thats it. imma stop here before it gets way too long yippieee!

ive been sick since the 31st but i cant be stopped from new chapter goofin. first chapter of the year, lets go
oh noooo this first page is already so embarrassing. PLEEEASE dont tell me zoey assumed he and lucy are a thing because of the snake thing. PLEEEEEASE tell me his dad is teasing. im so embarrassed
PHYLLIS MOMENT? yamazaki loves biddies we knew this old broad was gonna come back
so nostalgic to see the witchs coven like this for the first time in.... many many chapters
wasnt the coven isaac supposed to have his name spelled differently than chises isaac? i thought that was mentioned on twitter at some point, but the wiki spells it like that too (NOT THAT NOTABLE - WIKI IS CHEEKS)
very nice panel of him and marielle with their wrists intersecting. idk it just looks pretty. i like symmetry
this chapter is a little longer? i think the most recent ghost+witch was just as long. why is yamazaki unstoppable. is she sleeping
more and more "things are about to get waaaacky!" okay yeah we know that but when will anything happen. i dont mind the lack of action in tamb. at all, actually. but the leadup is a little silly
"i wonder if she saw it, too." she did not <3
THIS IS A MONTH AND A HALF FROM THE LAST CHAPTER????????????
theyre all sitting in the courtyard like they did when they agreed to keep zoeys secret. nice callback, and its cute that this is their little hangout spot
whats in that box between chise and rian
oh no zoeys dad responded and lucy is here. oh no. i cant handle this i cant handle embarrassment
wait lucy helped him write it because she says she revised it. so either they actually are dating or his dad was teasing. im soooo...
waaait zoey has a little ponytail its so cuties
weeeh chises smile is so sweeties and cuties
"you could've warned us you were there" WHAT DID I JUUUST SAY EARLIER ABOUT LUCY. SHE IS NOT GOING TO LIKE HIM TRAILING CHISE AROUND
wait did chise even know he was there. she can usually sense his comings and goings so i think shes just surprised he decided to butt into the convo
shut uuuuup they dont need a chaperone you just want to follow your wife around
wait if a month and a half has passed whatever happened with alices xmas gift for chise
weeeeh philomela is being so cuties
i like that yamazaki kinda teases these het pairings among the friend group without ever insinuating that theyll go anywhere. like in every direction almost. feels like straightbaiting... unbelievably funny. which, egg on my face if zoey and lucy ends up being real
philomela is being an early-story chise right now. "everyone does things for me even though i dont deserve it and i dont want to lose anyone even though i dont contribute anything." no wonder chise latched onto her as Guy I Need To Fix
love how varied and stylish yet simple their outerwear is
"he wanted to accompany chise" SEEEE WHAT I MEEEEEAN HE JUST WANTS TO FOLLOW HIS WIFE AROUND
HEEEEEEEY GIRLLL I MEAN THEY. I MEAN THEY. I MEAN THE
selkie nathan here too whatever. i didnt want the friend to be alice what makes you say that
i love how no one who meets elias in the white girl glamor ever says "why do you have a boy name." yamazaki is above such trifles
elias looks so sullen hunched behind chise oh my god. following his damn wife around. i love the human glamors because his facial expressions are sooooooo funny hes just -____-
elias coming in hot with the "that dont got nothing to do with me im smoking my cigarette"
the bolo tie strings lovingly rendered across his chest im. going to eat plywood. hey girl. i mean th
"whoa they got wrapped in fog is this related to rahab" <= idiot who glossed over nathan LITERALLY explaining that meg was surrounded by fog before she was attacked. can you PAY ATTENTION. FOR /ONCE/
man theyll be okay they got two teachers with them
oh no your girlfriend
that zoey panel kinda went crazy stupid whoag
"the blood run strong in him" okay jesus christ who is this. it better be someone we already know because this is a little silly
speaking of. i mean we know zoey isnt going to go home because hes on the arc 3 spread. he has to dress as a fancy boy and swing his lil weapon with the st georges. no time for dat goku
these are just like the witches in madoka ☝🤓
so this is the chapter where we are actually starting to see a little follow-through on yamazakis "WATCH OUT!!" hyping. all of these monsters attacking people have the same eyeball motif. im trying to think about where we have seen it before. i want to blame the new mage, but their apprentice (i dont remember her name nor can i be fucked to check) talks about them like theyre unrelated. maybe the person on the last page created them? they dont share immense similarity with lil fella either, so perhaps not dragon related either. did someone like joseph create them as chimeras? trying to trigger the red dragon appearing again? maaaan idk
any chapter where i get to see babygirl elias is a good one. swinging my legs teeheeing n shit

Finally running our relay back and forth from town to the dungeon for what is going to be far from the last time in even this strata alone... we face down the menace that's been slaughtering NPCs... an awkward recolor of the FOEs we've already been pretty handily clearing out. Although admittedly, having it flanked by its copy paste goons isn't not-threatening. Still, seeing them dance around in sync back there is a little silly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do feel bad about Picnic mode being just so easy, it feels like I'm cheating... I could have still worked out the little puzzle without fighting if I had wanted to, but I just didn't have the patience for it. It did have a neat little feature where the Terrible Hunter has the unique ability to jump one square over to get over a single tile trap hole, which the standard Raptors can't, so you'd have to kind of line up the way it stalks you thru the room so that it leaps over the first of either of these pairs of adjacent traps only to fall into the second.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway we get past the dinos and rescue the guards, including our bridge nerd. of course when we follow up on the bridge lead, we can't just head back to the Ginnungagap, we need a rock, and the rock is on the 5th floor, in the nest of the King of Beasts, The Chimera... who is of course the final boss of this strata. So we just have to keep doing what we were already going to do anyway in order to eventually get back around to that whole story thing about getting Arianna to that altar somewhere down in the Ginnungagap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh but this is a fun sort of glossed over detail. The first EO did this too actually. In this case Chimera is calling(?) stronger monsters down from the higher strata? In the first EO (where the dungeon went down, not up) the boss down at the bottom of the second strata, Cernunnos, is actually credited as having chased the wolf pack, lead by Fenrir, up into the bottom of the First strata where it serves as the first big boss fight.
And although the broader concept doesn't really come back into play at all, I really love the idea of a dungeon crawler acknowledging, not only that the dungeon has a kind of ecological balance to it, but that that balance can be upset and that upsetting it has dire consequences.
Dungeon meshi addresses this too, a few times in fact, with the Kraken fight, as well as the Red Dragon itself --although it gets kinda pushed aside once the plot shifts focus onto the mad mage.
I'd honestly really love to see an RPG that makes its ecology an actual central pillar of its world building and gameplay experience. Like, I'd really love to see a game that de-incentivizes grinding and promotes exploration by letting you overhunt enemy types, with a free shifting kind of random encounter rate. So like grinding on high level predators both lowers their encounter rates, ups their prey's encounters, which in turn lowers the encounter rates of like plant enemies, or makes resource gathering spots less plentiful or less bountiful, which in turn means the prey animals are unhealthy and start lowering their rare drop rates or quality, so now they produce less meat, or worse pelts, etc... And naturally that feels like it would mean the fantasy economy would also be tied to those rates, so the more surplus you start hauling in and flooding the market with the less vendors are willing to pay you for them. (you can see why I used to run a side blog dedicated to scrutinizing why certain monsters would or wouldnt make sense in the dungeons theyre in in games...)
Anyway, small update. Next run I'm off to slay the Chimera and maybe finally get this plot rolling again

its actually so different seeing boys act like that when they’re kinda off camera. also seths comment was disgusting asf. i know theyre men so theyre making these jokes but jesus christ after they know they were recorded the whole time?
it is a bit strange to see how they act bts, but it also makes sense. they aren't gonna be screaming at the top of their lungs and freaking out if nothing is happening. they only put that face on for the camera.
and yes, seth's comment was gross.
if i can add on just my two cents tho, i would like for ppl to hear me out.
i stated this before in my longer post about this whole thing, but men say gross shit about women when they aren't around. that's just reality. obviously not all men talk about women like that, but that type of behavior goes unrecognized a lot with groups of men. most men don't call out other men for saying shit about women. and a lot of women don't call out men for doing it either. as someone who used to be friends with only men for a long time, a lot of them would say inappropriate shit to me about other women. and about me to my own face. and bc i was young and didn't really have a backbone, i allowed that to happen. hell, sometimes i would agree. i realize that's shitty now, but it took a long time to grow out of that internalized misogyny. i'm still unlearning behavior like that, and it most likely will be a continuous process for life bc we live in a patriarchy and treating women like shit is kinda expected and accepted.
now, none of this is to say that what seth said should be allowed or glossed over. no, i don't think that. but my personal belief is that the only person that needs an apology is kristin. bc that's is who the comment was directed at. yes, it was upsetting to hear it from seth, but he didn't personally direct his objectification at me, or any other women in this fandom. kristin is the one that needs the apology.
i'm gonna assume he apologized, strictly bc she went on to do a video with him and snc on xplrclub and was all smiles there, but hey. if she wants a public one, i would love for her to receive it. and if not, it is what it is. but i get that many others don't feel that way. feel however you want to. my word is not law.

hello I've been an on-and-off CM enjoyer(?) for a decade, with Hotch being my main area of interest… I just spent literal hours going through your blog lol. tbh it was exactly the kind of CM content I desperately wanted but had trouble finding initially (jfc the sea of x reader I had to wade through) anyway I stopped watching full eps at around S5, but I'm aware of how things go for Hotch and I'm v bitter about the missed opportunities. maybe a popular opinion in the fandom, but I've always hated how the Foyet attack was glossed over for example - my disbelief when I first watched 5x02 and Hotch just... shows up to work?? why'd they bother with such a major injury if its consequences were limited to one (1) episode years later, and even then the mental trauma was 99% ignored. no mention of meds/painkillers/recovery? nothing about "your scars are gonna look just the same"?? BUT that almost pales in comparison to all the other Hotchner things you got me thinking about, like his subtle aversion to fire or autistic traits or other facets of his character/relationships that are soooo tantalizingly hinted at but not expanded upon. I don't know the whole show that well so idk how Hotch fared compared to other characters but it felt like we got crumbs, especially since he was there for 11 goddamn seasons sorry this is so long but I've never talked CM to anyone before and you've made me love Hotch even more as a character, and now I'll have to further stew in my despair over him getting zero closure
i have similar issues with the show and fandom. the show looooves to traumatize its characters and then pretend it didnt even happen the second the arc is over. i understand its the nature of an episodic show like this (and i love that style for this show! i do!) but they could MENTION how hotch has scars (especially in season 10 when theyre all comparing scars on the plane) or how he needs medication (considering thats the only reason why they found foyet in the first place). foyet was the first big arc, so i understand why they needed to get on with it and bring hotch back to work by 5x02, but i wish they’d had an extra episode in between dealing with the team’s emotions about their leader being attacked (the way we kinda see them reeling from haley’s death and the potential of hotch not returning in 5x11 (or whatever the next ep after 100 is)).
no matter who your favorite cm character is, anyone can have the same complaint of them not following through about what undergoing these kind of traumatic events would mean for the characters. it’s definitely a sore point with criminal minds. especially because the only time they do it is when they want a character to leave (like gideon, blake, and kate). it fucking sucks bc there’s so much potential
and that’s where i feel like the fandom lets me down too. there’s not a lot of talk about it—mostly it’s just self inserts and shipping. there’s hardly any good character analysis out there, but that’s why i started this blog in the first place: if it doesn’t exist, make it yourself! (i would encourage you to do the same if you still feel this way. i talk shit ab the fandom all day but i still get so much positivity despite that from people who value the characters just as much but express it differently)
sorry for getting to this ask so late! maybe you’ll come across it eventually. if you do, let me know your other thoughts on the show/fandom! if youve seen more, if youve interacted more, or if you just have more to say!

also like! they kinda glossed over it but when they regress to another world- they take the place of the person who was them who was there until that point. so ik theres the whole thing about how none of them feel at home in the 1865th turn, but them saying that they arent the people from that turn is also like... its only true because they say it. given how much theorizing goes on elsewhere and how much is anticipated to be theorized about im surprised there wasnt a discussion in character there about how they literally replaced the people of that turn. in a way- killing them. (which, unrelated, also works into the novels themes w kdj about the first scenario mirroring his earlier life etc etc) like there was so much about 'which is the real kdj' about 51/49, but like. theyre both the real him and theyre both not necessarily fully him. in a way its a metaphor for how, after intense traumatic situations, one will do worse for a while when they get to safety- because subconsciously they realize they can. except kdj's self isolation and walls being put up without addressing the root cause are what continues the scenarios- his escapism through (blanking on the very specific term i want so i will simply say 'living by proxy') when watching the others is a way of diminishing himself, something that hes had repeated problems with. its all a really nice metaphor for healing from abuse and trauma, and learning that one can be loved- which makes it both all the more understandable that it ends the way it did and also all the more infuriating because i want to see kdj healing SO BADLY

Kabbus buggedfabl for blorbo bingo?
Tumblr media
Kabbuu!!! The silly....
Bug fables spoilers of course:
Initially didnt like him at all like he felt rlly boring at the beggining of the game but he got more funny and interesting as the plot developed.
I feel like they couldve done a bit more with him cus he kinda feels a bit like comic relief and the onky serious moment we get with the beast is scripted and very quickly glossed over when its done. I wish he talked more abt his dead teamates after the beast is dealt with- like they go shopping and theyre like ah this teammate would have loved something like this (but not in a sorrowful way also sorry i forgor the names) but more so in the way that hes happy he survived and can bring these memories with him
Like kabbu has good development and motives but i feel like he is a lil rushed compared to lief and vi in terms of character growth, its just all very sudden then boom its over
I do love his silliness tho i just wish we got to know more abt him
