Something I noticed is a lot of people who hated BATIM love BATDR and a lot of people fond of BATIM dislike BATDR. To me, this seems like a mechanics vs story issue. The actual game mechanics and aesthetic of BATDR disguise the lackluster characters and plot holes. However, BATIM still suffers those same issues.
This is a vague question, but what are your thoughts on BATIM vs BATDR story wise? Is either of them truly better? Or are they just flawed in different ways?
Sorry, this is long, but so are BATIM and BATDR :')
I think you hit the nail on the head in the sense that yes- BATDR has better gameplay and mechanics than BATIM, but BATIM by far has a much more compelling story that was able to capture and keep attention over the course of five chapter releases. And yes, BATIM is not without its flaws, for example it's mainly a walking simulator in terms of actual gameplay- the only thing saving it being the unique ability to suck the player in through the rich, stylistic environments.
In terms of story, here's my take for both of them-
BATIM is more solid overall, there are more connected plot points and there's a thread there to be followed from start to finish. It does suffer from some WTF plothole moments, the biggest one being Alice's 180 degree turn with suddenly using Boris as a killing machine rather than...what I can only assume was a plan to use his ink/body as some kind of reparative agent for the hole in her face (like thicc ink premium idk), or...some kind of spell...? It's honestly not very clear HOW she was going to use him, but bottom line she decided to entirely change her plan off-screen, which could have been remedied with something like a cutscene's worth of explanation, and more of a buildup to Brute Boris. The "reveal" in the haunted house didn't hold that much weight (at least to me,) just because we didn't even get a cookie crumb of a hint that Alice was going to mutilate him and use him as a drone instead of just axe him.
There are other nonsense details like Allison's ominous "I'm no Angel" line, which didn't make sense when Tom was the one to want to leave Henry. It was never explained WHY the Ink Demon walks around with a limp when he can shapeshift into a bigger and faster Beast version of himself (and apparently he was ALSO the hand in the ink river??? I guess???) And can we talk about how the cult Joey started was just never brought up again? Wally talks about how workers were encouraged (or mandated, idk) to put offerings in the break room to "appease the gods." What gods? Was Joey worshiping Bendy like a god? NONE OF THIS IS EXPLAINED EVER and honestly I think Micheal D. and Meatstick just Forgot that Joey was a cult leader in favor of Sammy's cult storyline.
But despite all of the plot holes, we still get a tale of a deteriorating studio, humans being used as literal skeletons for lifelike versions of cartoon characters, themes of life, death, cults, art, and more. Honestly, going deep into the plot of Bendy would take its own post to really do it justice.
I guess the main plot is this: Ex-co-founder of Joey Drew Studios, Henry, is trying to get the fuck home to his wife, learning along the way that through the power of a mysterious ink machine, his ex-business partner decided to coerce and persuade people to Literally Die so he could have the necessary materials to create living versions of his cartoons, thus making "his" characters (and more importantly, Bendy,) a reality. Once Henry does escape, he learns that Joey has sent him through this same hell before, still filled with hatred and spite, just in time for Joey to assumedly "reset" him and send him on a different version of the same journey, as we can guess from the storyboards on display in Joey's apartment. THAT on its own is an intriguing and layered tale, and that's not even including the other details, voices, and faces we run into in BATIM, AND the new info we learn in BATDR.
Now, BATDR...is something I've come to view as a mixed bag.
Story-wise, it weirdly wants to have its cake and eat it to. Henry's story is elaborated on, and part of Audrey's origins are also brought to light. This is helpful information concerning the plot of BATIM...but then we get assblasted with a ton of new characters and lore for a completely new Cycle under the reign of a completely new Random Old Man. I know he's Nathan's son, and he was mentioned in both Illusion and Fade to Black...but those were de-canonized, so it almost doesn't help context-wise...???? So...????
In a lot of ways, BATDR almost acts like it wants to be an AU branching from BATIM rather than a direct sequel, which it was marketed/confirmed as.
I think my biggest problem with BATDR is that some of the main characters are bafflingly like. Mishandled.
I'm gonna have the mildest take on earth and say I didn't like the new Ink Demon. Old design was better and more uncanny by far, the new design looks like Generic Satan or something straight out of Baldur's Gate. He was given a deep, guttural growling voice because....tumblr sexyman I guess. Even if they needed him to talk, it could've been something more breathy and raspy, true to the heavy breathing of the original Ink Demon. Also, his alternate form was made very childlike, and I'm just weirded out by the fact that you have this oddly "sexified" version of the Ink Demon on the flipside of Bendy the Child. I don't think any ill intent was meant by this, but it's more confusing than anything thematically. I'm also not sure why Bendy's abuse was brought up and then never touched on....? Like wasn't this guy locked up and called a monster his whole life? Are we going to...say something especially considering the moral of this story......?
Memory Joey is completely fine, but I just can't shake the feeling that the narrative is trying to paint IRL Joey as "UWU fixed now" when that's not the case. The most sympathy I can extend to IRL Joey is that he was a gay man who desired to have a family at a time when that was not only frowned upon but dangerous, not just socially speaking but in terms of his physical safety. But beyond that, this was a dude who locked people in a building to keep them working, coerced and possibly forced the deaths of many people to get what he wanted (the ink machine was a scientific advancement that could've had AMAZING implications for society but he Did Not Give a Shit about that), and was abusive towards Henry. If we trust the Bendy books, he also gaslit and killed his teenage staff. This motherfucker isn't a patron saint of anything, and even if Memory Joey can learn from IRL Joey's mistakes, IRL Joey was still a shitbag who just happened to raise a daughter.
Which leads me to Audrey. Some of Audrey's tale is explained- she was raised by Joey, forgot Joey was her father, and came to work at Archgate as an animator. Got to know Wilson, who works as a janitor at Archgate, and then he drags her into ink hell because....idk, she's his version of "A Perfect Boris" I guess. Fair enough. However, it's NEVER EXPLAINED how Audrey doesn't remember her father, or WHERE she went to live after his passing, or WHO she lived with. Remember, Joey was as old as a cave painting, so he clearly passed when she was very young. While you could argue she doesn't remember his name because she was little, SURELY she remembers his face or voice, or the fact that she HAD A FATHER??? Like, was there some huge trauma there? (Other than the fact that Joey was her dad?) It makes little sense to me that she would forget so easily. If I had to make a guess (and granted I'm no Mark Twain), I'd wager that Allison probably found Joey dead. Remember that Nathan hadn't talked to Joey in years, and Allison was the one who went out of her way in the first place to visit. At this point, Allison's gonna find a little girl running around by herself, and assumedly her and Thomas would've taken her in. If that's not the case, someone else found Joey dead, at which point Audrey would've possibly lived with Nathan and Tessa, considering how much Nathan cared about Joey. Either party has ties to Archgate. But all of that is just speculation, not confirmed, and even if any of that were true, Audrey makes no mention of it. And I'm sorry, Audrey's backstory makes me want to cry, because it's just NOT THERE and she has the personality of a depressed bucket.
Alice was alright...but she was kind of stupid? Which is like....the antithesis of everything cool about her? Instead of using traps and luring the main character from a distance, she knocks out Audrey (via unspecified drink), plays Diet Jigsaw with Audrey, and then gets pushed off a balcony. She was also a lot more...idk, suave and sultry in speech mannerisms in BATDR, which isn't bad, but her unhinged and clever nature seemed a bit watered down.
I don't really have notes on the rest of the main cast. Sammy was brought back to die immediately, which honestly was fine considering his death track record. We get some mentions of BATIM characters. Wilson and Betty were fine, and even some of the lore explaining how the timelines work made sense.
HOWEVER,
I've already said it a hundred times, but the old cast was shoved to the side for a bunch of new characters we had no time to connect with. A new butcher gang member was added when we still have Miss Twisted as a potential female-role filler (keep in mind the Projectionist is based on Camera Man and Brute Boris was based on The Brute.) The whole "Amok" thing was a REALLY roundabout way to get the Lost Ones to stop attacking Audrey.
Wilson's motivations are mostly consistent and I'd argue somewhat compelling, but I don't understand why he didn't do more to protect Audrey if he was going to need her for the endgame for Shipahoy Dudley? Like what's all this about letting her run around and get killed? Was he just aware that she'd revive?
The main message of BATDR was fine, but it didn't work super well for Audrey's character. She'd already forgotten Joey was her father, and was living in blissful ignorance of that fact until Memory Joey decided to infodump on her right away. Sure, the "just because you were born of darkness doesn't mean you have to be darkness" thing applies to her AFTER she learns Joey was her father, but...Audrey was never threatening to Become Evil, so it almost didn't need to be said and was kind of a flat message...? I would argue Memory Joey would benefit more from that message- as he's a literal copy of a Very Bad Dude. My guy was projecting this whole time.
I do think BATDR was worse story-wise, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend it didn't have certain disadvantages from the start. The Kindlybeast debacle happened, BADTR was trying to continue a story from an existing property, and there was a severe lack of Adrienne Kress. Okay, maybe the last one was a bit much, but still. That doesn't mean I hate BATDR overall, I can appreciate a lot of things about it, but strictly in the story department, it needs soooooo much work and makes me want to jump off a Minecraft cliff.
#AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE TOON.#the toon form feels so... strange ? like he feels forced because of fanon toon being real and made of ink often too yknow#and the fact he's practically taken over who bendy is ? is really off for me. like this is a branding thing but god#its like they replaced the actual toon with the cycle version almost. kinda like what they did with the ink demon design#but i digress#batdr's toon form being presented as childish is so off for me too because while yes bendy in the toons was childish#it... it doesnt mean he Is a kid yknow#it isnt stated per se if he is one or not. but like#even if the comics count as noncanon novels. hes very clearly an adult. he holds a martini glass owns a home drives a car#yknow#and. and yeah his traumas are Not explored enough. i guess we get the projection onto audrey of raahhh youre bad like i am but otherwise#joey's memory also. i really do believe and enjoy his story. but i wish they made more of a seperation between the two. like#memory shouldve shown remorse for his original self's past. maybe shown and said to want to be better#maybe fix joey's mistakes too a bit !! have him talk about what hes done to help undo some of his damage or whatever. wouldve been great#characterisation. he is still a seperate person after all even if he is an extension of joey in some strange way#and finally. the character issues. oh lord. i wish so badly they used old characters. it was awfully strange seeing porter be advertised and#he has like... what. 5 or so minutes of screentime ? i feel like EVERY character was underutilised#they shouldve stuck to one or two for each department or company. developed ones preferably. have actual arcs in the audio logs like in bati#m. couldve saved a Lot of the story#i love these games dont get me wrong. i just wish they did them justice !! im yet to rewrite the stories out of love and i really am excited#to see what the future holds. i want to see this franchise and company learn from past errors and become the best version of themselves#thanks for reading if anyone did pffh. i love this game series so much and i love critiques that show it. my own or other's#Nope !! !

hoo boyo so i'm the small writing human o/ *waves*
thank you for your response and i just took the time to read through your Jacob black's life matters and how smeyer killed him and i found it super interesting. (also it literally excites me seeing the quotes with the page numbers🤤). -----anyway back on track now. so i've always hd a liking for twilight since i watched the movies when they released (i would have been like 10..?) because i generally like the genre it falls in to. back in feb i watched all the movies again with my mum and she owns all the books so i started to read Twilight and pretty much loved it (i'm easily pleased). it took me like three weeks to get through it which is pretty average for me (attention span..) but then when i picked up New Moon i could barely put it down. i read it in 4 days which is the fastest ive ever read a book by a looong shot. i kind of fell off with reading eclipse... it took me almost 2 whole months to get through which just shows.
i think in hindsight one of the reasons i actually love New Moon (book) more than the rest is that there isnt really a 'set in stone villain' (twilight has james, eclipse has the newborns//victoria, then BD has the volturi. i suppose edward is the only thing that could class as a villan that book but thats not my point i think i enjoyed it more because of the time we get to spend with bella and jacobs characters . . . (quick side note that i watched the movies after finishing the books and new moon has no justice i feel like it washes over the effect jacob had on bringing bella "back to life" so much. so upsetting)
anyhoodles. i think i enjoy Twilight to set up B&E, then New Moon to set up B&J, then as you say in the crit Eclipse just kind of forces you to choose. and it makes sense. after just watching the movies i cant see a way in hell anyone would be team jacob---but having read the books its a whole different story. but then again... smeyer.... yeah.
sorry this has been such a long ask and doesnt really have a question involved, feel free to not post a response as i understand it's long:')
as a last note while i think of it i think that Eclipse for me fell off in that i didnt particularly care about what it was doing. i liked reading about bella and edward in twilight and then bella and jacob in new moon and i just didnt really care for most of eclipse. but maybe thats because i fell in love with bella and jacob from new moon and then had the character sabotaged.. heavy sigh. i think it says a lot that ive had a fan art of bella and jacob walking along the beach as my phone wallpaper since i read new moon so that says it all really.
i apologise once again for the length of this. ---if you wanna see the fan art wallpaper ill find it and reblog it so its at the top of my page.
p(p?)s. i'm glad it's sunny there! it's rained here the last couple days :c
hello tiny writing human! glad to have you back :)
glad you liked the analysis! & the books. New Moon is my favorite too, & i definitely agree with you that part of the appeal is the internal struggle Bella faces. we do get Victoria in the background & the werewolves, but really the whole book is about Bella learning to cope with 1) being a human in a supernatural world 2) her grief of being alone [i.e. without Edward] in this new world. watching her pick up the pieces of her life & build something new & beautiful & imperfect with Jacob was cathartic & relatable - v much a triumph in a series so rooted in the fantastical.
& it's hard to watch Eclipse become this struggle between two boys. because really, it's not about Edward or Jacob. Bella's choice is about whether she wants to give up everything for this cold, "perfect," monstrous, immortal life; or, whether she wants to stick around & build something warm & human & imperfect & finite with Jacob.
by twisting Jacob's character from the symbols of sunshine & values of humanity he represents into a bad-boy supernatural love interest competing with Edward for Bella's affection, it erases some of the characterization that we have come to expect & love in Jacob. because when Meyer positions him as a love interest, he's not embodying the traits as a friend; he's embodying the traits of what Meyer thinks is formidable love interest and rival to Edward: confident, cocky, aggressive, persistent... Jacob becomes nothing more than a 2000s-era (& before) trope of how men in our society "should" act towards women. so, everything we came to knew about Jacob was morphed into this friend/lover hybrid that just didn't work for who he was. he is Jacob...but he is not our Jacob.
(& the movies did him even worse because the "slice of life" B/J scenes we get were mostly cut.)
anyway, thanks for coming back & letting me rant about one of my favorite characters & my fave book :)
#i'm keeping an eye peeled for the fanart :)#too bad about the rain but hopefully you get some sunshine soon!#cheers~#asks#edward cullen#jacob black

Share ten different favourite characters from ten different pieces of media in no particular order, then send this to 10 people (anon or not, your choice) 🎥🎬📺
got tagged by @sometimes-i-talk-a-lot !!!
no idea who to tag so feel free to do it
im not sure youre axtually supposed to talk about them a lot but i did start rambling on with most of them so its going under the read more
kakyoin from jojo's bizarre adventure - the funny gamer man :). i like how i managed to read/watch all of jojo but he still managed to be my favorite through it all. his backstory was just really relatable to me i guess.
Patches from the soulsborne games - hes just kind of a huge asshole everytime you meet but something about hearing his voice after he kicks you down a pit for the 10th time. A lot of it probably comes from his voice actor. he really sounds like hes enjoying himself every time he gets to voice him.
ichiban kasuga from yakuza like a dragon - hes just a very loveable guy. everything from the way he talks with his friends to the way he talks with everyday people makes him just easy to fall in love with. Its also nice seeing how despite what he goes through he still keeps his friendly personality
lady from devil may cry - shes really cool and i like her character a lot. her arc in the 3rd game is just really satisfying to follow from beginning to end. she doesnt get much in terms of story in 4 or 5 but i feel like her character is fine how she is and adding more would kinda take away from it. she did get a nice little moment in 5 though which i liked. Also its nice to know that in a series where all the other fighters have some form of demonic powers she is 100% human. And please capcom make her playable in 5!!!!!
Raiden from metal gear - My favorite boy whos been through so so much. I cant really talk about how i like him since that would mostly involve spoilers and would also make up multiple pages. In 2 i just like the way he develops throughout the story and how he finds meaning by the end. Hes also the protag of one of my favorite games metal gear rising revengance. Despite the over the top nature of the game i still think they did his character justice and its a nice extension of the story of 2 (though nothing compares to that imo)
Sans from undertale - Despite everything i still really like undertale, its world and its characters. And the funny bone man managed to still be my fav. His jokes and his mysterious nature all makes him really likable to me. His fight is pretty enjoyable too. also hes a skeleton so theres that.
Samus from Metroid - Basically everything i wish i was. Shes cool, strong and she still manages all of this without saying a whole lot. I especially like her body language in dread. pls just ignore how she is in other m....
Tienshinhan from dragon ball - this ones mostly an old favorite. he was my favorite charcater when i watched it as a kid and he still is. He just seemed really cool everytime he appeared. Still think its bullshit how he isnt considered the strongest human -3-
Bridget from guilty gear - this ones a very recent fav. i never really knew anything about her before she appeared in strive but she definitely made an impact on me. Something about seeing a trans girl accepting herself in a mainstream videogame just makes me really happy. Also her theme song is soooo good and is soooo relatable to me. Like yeah i also hate the alarm clock i chose and i also taste like vegetables i dont like. 😭
Aqua from kingdom hearts - Shes one of the more competend characters in the series. She isnt without flaws or anything but she definitely gets shit done when she wants to. Her fighting style is also really nice. And of course she has blue hair and pronouns 🙄

Shigaraki is NOT Free
Guys, i dont believe shigaraki is really free now. we saw how all for one manipulated him for years and now, he is becoming SOMETHING that all for one wants him to become. now why i am think like that?
we are seeing afo at this panel, big posibility its him. i dont believe he conciedencely find tenko, big posibility. i think most of us think like that.
how many times we saw this scene? just four times! like what the hell?! if you wont save this poor tenko, why do you keep showing this? horikoshi doesnt show things without reason. he is adding secret messages to his scenes so it means this scene has a lot of meaning than we thought.
and do i even need to talk about the perfect manipulation in this scene? look at the words he used. he doesnt talk randomly. he is choosing perfect words to manipulate tenko s mind
all for one showed his family s dead bodies. well maybe its not dead body but shigaraki believes they are so. if all for one really cares about shigaraki, would he do that?
shigaraki was abused all his life. his own father punished him for doing good things (tenko just wanted to help people, big posibility thats why he wanted to be a hero and yeah his father cares about his son but still, his father did hurt tenko even though he didnt mean it.)
while all for one basically praise shigaraki for doing bad things. he gave him toys. can you imagine how much this kind of raising can destroy a little child s mind
and he gave his lastname after he killed those punks. its like “you can join my family as long as you become a villain”. now for some people, it might have no meaning but for an orphan who lost his family , it has a lot of meaning that a lot of people cant understand that feeling.
there is no way shigaraki wanted to kill his family. i dont believe he meant it and i dont believe he is ok with that. he is just running away. if it was his own will, then he wouldnt be affected by that trauma this much. definitely he is feeling extremely remorse but he is saying “there is no tragedy”.
look at the moment tenko killed his family. dont read future shigaraki s thoughts. just look at tenko s despair. look at his eyes. this is why author showed that tragic moment brutally.
tenko s reaction is so similar to eri. so there is no way what shigaraki think can be true. its so tragic that words cant describe it. so basically what shigaraki thought is still wrong.
he is not finding a way he is believing what afo wants him to believe. “only exist do destruction”
afo knew eventually shigaraki will be destroy these hands. thats why we saw afo s words to shigaraki in chapter 239.
we still dont know a lot of things about shigaraki s past.
about these hands, bonus hand. how all for one find him. the mysterious memories doesnt fit. there are a lot of mysterious about that. and blah blah. why author keep making shigaraki parallel with other characters s victimhood. he is doing this only for shigaraki.
all for one doesnt see shigaraki as a person but something. we know all for one clearly manipulate shigaraki and now, he is supposed to be free but we are still seeing all for one s word to shigaraki.
all for one is saying “you are truly free”. (big posibilty, shigaraki is remembering all for one s words). it means that shigaraki became what all for one wants him to become. he is still affecting from all for one.
ok now,
is that really the end for shigaraki s development? i dont think so. this series are all about character developments. not just for shigaraki, also for the sake of the story, this shouldnt be the last development for shigaraki.
shigaraki is different person from all for one. some people are saying that all for one also cared about his comprades or followers too. but i dont think its fair comprasion. all for one basically desroyed a little child s mind and used his trauma for his own selfish desires.
believe me, to be able to do that, you need to be more than just a murderer. you need to be extremely cruel. yeah, even there is a line that murderers shouldnt cross. cause its an another level of cruellness. someone like that wouldnt care about his comprades or followers and you can see how manipulative afo is. so i dont believe that. lets suppose he is someone like that or he was but...
shigaraki doesnt care about himself. he is making self destruction. he is keep hurting himself or most of times, he does nothing when he got hurt. i dont see that for all for one or anyone else, other villains. someone like that...it means he isnt enjoying his life, it means he is not really happy. i dont believe he is really happy. its too forcefull. he never cares about himself but you can clearly see there are people he cares about.
he cares about his family. this is why exteremly guilty about it even though he is denying it now.
he cares about afo cause he “saved” him
and he cares about kurogiri cause he was taking care of shigaraki.
he cares about his comprades and want a future for them cause they were besides of him, no matter what reason they did that.
he is killing people and destroying a lot of lifes but cause of doing this, he doesnt expect a future for himself. its like he knows what he is doing and he thinks that he doesnt deserves a future.
so it doesnt makes sense that someone like shigaraki can become someone cruel like all for one. (dont even need to talk about doctor who is the evilest character in bnha, at least he looks like to me).
i think future will be different from what we thought. look at this scene. shigaraki saved redestro from his weigh of destiny. (even though gigantomachia see afo in shigaraki but i dont think so. i think gigantomachia is wrong. i believe shigaraki is different from afo.) redestro isnt a successor anymore. he is something else. shigaraki has to be something else too.
also do you know what would be more epic? shigaraki s saving gigantomachia from all for one s manipulation, not just himself. shigaraki or people around shigaraki might believe shigaraki is free but he is clearly not. i dont think so.
its the ending of League of Villains? so what might happen?
lov members might die. (dont think so)
shigaraki might betray them (well i dont think so but he is still affected by all for one so i expect everything but still dont think so.)
someone/some people will betray lov or they will destroy lov somehow? idk.
lov might change to something else. shigaraki is the one who will destroy and change it. well, honesty this one i want this to happen.
or maybe shigaraki will fail somehow? idk.
this hero society has to change. heroes have to make up for their mistakes and should be better heroes. shigaraki has to be saved. there shouldnt be victims like them. justice should happen for the sake of bright future. maybe thats why chapter 231 s name was bright future. the moment redestro destroyed shigaraki s hands. it was trigger for the beginning of the bright future? idk.
this arc was a my villain academia arc so basically shigaraki graduate from his villain academia but then, what will happen? in the future he will only stay with this character development or will we get another my villain academia arc? or shigaraki will be something else from a villain (this is what i hope honestly. well whatever as long as ending is a fair epic and happy.)
this anime s name is my hero academia cause our kids are learning how to become a better heroes and i dont think they will until this story ends. in the end, they will graduate while changing this messed up society and saving people. with creating a new world, hopefully.
but this scene show makes me think future will be different than we thought. Successors will choose their own path and they will be something different.
i also expect this kind of scene for shigaraki when he really become free from all for one s manipulation but looks like for a while, he will become what afo wants him to become.
(people are saying he is happy or he is free. honestly its so frustrating to hear that. cause its so sad cause i think its not true. i dont believe that he is free & happy. i want see his real freedom and his real happiness.)
it will be really hard to wait. :/.
#bnha 239#shigaraki#sorry for bad eng#yeah i dont want him to stay as a villain and i want better future and ending for him#he is NOT free#all for one#manipulation#bnha meta#mine

vauging post is vague*
So like i dont know why people post stuff they dont want ppl to comment on or reblog. Literally the entire point of putting stuff on the internet is for other people to interact with it. if you just want to write your thoughts a word document will work just fine. The only thing i can think of is wanting to make sure everyone else sees YOUR opinion while you dont have to see others.
Regardless. Saying that characters dont deserve redemption (at the moment in their story) is not saying that you need someone elses permission to change.
Maybe you are thinking of forgiveness. But REDEMPTION is a cosmic idea.
“ to make up for; make amends for; offset (some fault, shortcoming, etc.): “
“ to deliver from sin and its consequences by means of a sacrifice offered for the sinner. “
redemption is the PROCESS of understanding what you did wrong, why it was wrong , feeling guilt for it and enacting the process of trying to fix it with the understanding that it might never be enough. thats why all those crycry edgy animes has the protagonist trying to save every life they can and suffering any punishment they are met out because they murdered so many people in the samurai war or whatever and even if they saved hundreds of lives it ‘wont be enough”
Its not something people can give you. If you, say, go to the family of every person related to the person you killed and ask them to judge you and they all forgive you, you are not redeemed. the very nature of redemption, regardless of ones belief is the idea of there being some sense of justice and force of good in the world and the hope that if you do enough good it wont FIX what you broke but it will MAKE UP FOR IT, because the whole point is the thing you did CANNOT BE FIXED.
and that is my point. No Jasper didnt get ‘her moment’ nor a redemption arc because 1) its “steven universe” not “Space Gem Alien Opera” and the focus isnt on her, and 2) for her to get a redemption and start the arc would require her recognizing that what she did was wrong and then make the CHOICE to make up for it. I would say periodot and Lapis are STILL trying to redeem themselves. based on the narrative, when Greg first told steven about the war, the gems (rightfully) still feel guilty about their peoples near destruction of the billions of life forms on earth (which is compounded by the fact that it wasnt untill steven forced them to socialize, that they even saw the humans as equals and worth saving, and by their own admission only did it because its what rose wanted).
Thats my point Jasper LOVED the totalitarian government, she ENJOYS hurting people. SHe KNOWS they suffer and that gives her PLEASURE. She Likes the way gem society is because it means she gets to kill things and torture other gems who are beneath her. she fully believes in imperialism. She-does not-deserve-redemption. At least not until about a full seasons character development. it took peridot multiple episodes to decide to help the good guys and that was to save herself and several more episodes before she considered herself a steward of the life on Earth. ANd she never ENJOYED being evil.
And same goes for shadowweaver. There COULD be character development that changed her personality. but as her personality is at the moment she doesnt have a good bone in her body. she does not care about life nor people, except those that she deems belonging to her. And that was my point. she didnt have a tragic backstory. She was a Haughty bully who saw everyone else as beneath her. When the rulers of her kingdom decided the risks were to much she said she knew more than any of them and risked herself, her charge, and the whole kingdom. and when they didnt accept her monsterous mistake for the brilliance she saw it as, she went to the most evil organization she knew to trade power for the lives of those under her protection.
She does not care for anyone, she is evil and selfish. she has never even questioned if she was doing the right thing, she values no one’s opinion but her own, and she fundamentally sees manipulation as the main form of interacting with people. She-Does not-Deserve-Redemption.
At least not until she has a fundamental change in personality, an epiphany a realization that Every horrible thing that has happened to her has been her fault because she CHOSE magic and power over people.
And keep in mind that recongizing that a FICTIONAL character that is in a STORY is not at a point in their CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT to deserve to be redeemed, something the most penitent people might not achieve....Does not make one a hater or an anti or whatever. I love jaspers character and SHadowweaver is one of my favorite characters in She Ra and i Hope both finally reach that epiphany in a well crafted reasonable way (which i believe the writers are capable of doing). But they arent there yet and might never be there because of the Core aspects of their character.
Catra is a CHILD who’s bad habits and personality traits were created out of FEAR and her narrative arch has been amazing. Because its been done well, forcing her to hit rock bottom so she can see her fuck ups. but She did not choose to live in the fright zone, she didnt choose her caretaker, But she DID choose to not abandon the horde, she did choose to value her pride over friendship. And thats what her path has led her to.
hitting rock bottom, realizing that while she had legitmate reasons to be a skamp that her losing everything was HER FAULT. She’s hit rock bottom, she’s realized her unhappyness is caused by her own hand, and now the healing can begin.
So if it took catra 5 seasons to even see the dawn of her redemption arch, i highly doubt Mrs “i’m going to sell out my children for power” will get one any time before the series is cancelled.
*and i’m VAGUE POSTING not @ ing because 1)I dont want to harrass the person who inspired this post 2) i want to put this post out there for other people to see because i think many people need to see it 3) This gives them the option to read or not read it nor does it call attention to them 4)lots of people here are really stupid and do that “I’m going to post something where millions of people can see it but dont anyone dare respond to it!” thing where you make your post private after someone gives a fairly respectful rebuttle, and i AM calling ALL you bitches out cus its fucking dumb. stop doing that.

Hi. I really enjoy your blog and thank you for being so positive. All the negativity about last night's ep bothers me. I would love to see Dean/Cas finally have that big moment, but it wouldnt make for good story telling if we got it so easily. I have felt since s12...we are getting real personal growth! I also feel something big is coming for Dean/Cas with how they have kept them apart and all the emotional baggage getting adressed. There has been no hug either and there is so much unsaid. ❤
Yeah, I mean... I watch the show with the full knowledge that no matter how important Dean and Cas’s relationship is, even to the actual structure of the narrative, the way they’re writing the story and the actual focus of the main plot... will never focus that directly on destiel. This doesn’t mean I think destiel isn’t A Thing they are writing, just that Who Dean Is As A Person and Who Cas Is As A Person both take narrative precedence over the potential for a textual romantic relationship going forward for them.
I have no idea how to say that without sounding negative about it or drawing wank on it, which is why I don’t usually attempt to state it so blatantly in public. But I am 100% not negative about this. I’m just speaking about it from a narrative structure perspective here, which I’ve been yelling FOR LITERAL YEARS bears a close resemblance to the structure of 1001 Nights, and the Scheherazade/Shahryar relationship. Their romance is NEVER in the foreground of the tale, and yet somehow the entirety of 1001 Nights IS THE OVERARCHING STRUCTURE OF THEIR ROMANCE. Other aspects of the story are more pressing (like Scheherazade having sacrificed herself in the attempt to stop other women from being killed every morning, but not actually wanting to die herself because She Is Smart and Has A Plan and showed up with a buttload of awesome stories to slowly guide her plan to fruition). All those stories she weaves, in the gaps between them, she and Shahryar slowly fall in love. It’s not something they confess out loud, but it is something they both gradually begin to feel and to understand. Their interpersonal side-plot grows slowly, over 1001 actual nights of storytelling and companionship, and it takes nearly THREE YEARS of constant nightly stories, never letting one story end at the wrong time (at daybreak, when Shahryar might choose to kill her, but always timing it JUST RIGHT so that he’d ask for another story to fill the hours until dawn... which would inevitably be interrupted on a cliffhanger with words unspoken still between them... interrupting moose, anyone? That would be Scheherazade’s sister, Dunyazade, who accompanied her on what was supposed to be Scheherazade’s literal last night on Earth, but whose prompting and strategic interruptions actually furthered the romantic tension growing between Scheherazade and Shahryar, preventing their story from coming to an end too soon).
So while Scheherazade and Shahryar and their slow fall into love with one another is literally fundamental to the entire narrative, there was no way for any of it to pay off before the end of the larger narrative, you know?
If Scheherazade can patiently continue spinning out her stories, setting her own eventual (hopeful!) personal happiness aside because she sees the bigger picture at stake, then I can certainly wait until the end of Supernatural, however long it continues until its story is finally done.
Does this mean I’m saying that romantic love confessions and a clear, undeniable canon romantic relationship will factor in to the ending of the series? Nope. I have no guarantees to offer. But it does mean that as long as the show keeps factoring the fundamental importance of their relationship into the larger overarching narrative, as well as their own personal character arcs, and continuing to poke at it both through narrative mirrors and textually laying Big Questions for them out on the table, then I’m gonna be Scheherazade about it.
Every episode begins (emotionally, for me) with the Dread Pirate Roberts having spared Westley’s life because of True Love, and telling him “I’ll most likely kill you in the morning.” But then he doesn’t... and he continues not killing him, because it was all about true love. (yes, I’m saying the Princess Bride is a twist on the 1001 Nights narrative, at least insofar as The Dread Pirate Roberts persona goes. I mean... the parallel goes a lot deeper than this, into so much more of the metaphorical journey, the Hero’s Journey to prove himself worthy to his True Love, the quest for justice when he doubts the strength of that love to transcend death, after it was literally stolen away from him... I mean, this parallel also runs deep).
So that’s where we are with destiel. I’m perfectly 100% happy with that. Because I’m content to engage with the narrative they are actually presenting, and not delusionally projecting my own desire for Dean and Cas to just be happy now onto it in a way that it just does not exist in canon, you know?
All that said, YES. How long has it been since we’ve had a simple, “Hello, Dean.” Or even a HUG between them... since 13.06? YIKES THAT IS A WHILE. And we didn’t even get to hear the Hello, Dean at the end of 13.05 that we all yelled at the TV to fill that silent gap when Dean answered the phone and it was Cas calling him.
I choose to believe that the show is following their own unofficial theme song in this regard, though. They’ll be able to be happy at the end of the road. “There’ll be peace when you are done.” And until then, they’ve got a lot of road to cover, and a long way to go, and a lot of extraneous baggage to deal with. But they’re getting there, because they’ve always been headed there, even when they weren’t entirely sure where “there” was, you know?
But now we know Dean DOES know, at least in a general way. He’s not longing for a life that isn’t his anymore. He doesn’t feel cheated out of the white picket fence, apple pie life anymore. He’s made his own family (which absolutely does include Cas), and he recognizes there’s still work for them to do, but Dean himself is good with that. He’s in a strangely healthier place than he’s ever been in his whole entire life, including 4-year-old him who never knew death and fire and tragedy.
And that’s absolutely something to carry forward, wherever the road may lead.
And that’s also why I’ll eternally be frustrated with fandom bitterness over the literal structure of the entire narrative. I mean, this is not gonna change. This is the main story they are telling, and how they’re telling it. I only hope that being able to get some perspective on that will help people keep all of this in mind and truly appreciate the beauty of it all. This is why I personally feel this has the potential to be the greatest love story ever told, because it’s so much more than just an angel falling from heaven and raising a man from hell, and then meeting in the middle. It’s about BOTH of them, their choices, their failures and successes, and this entire process of understanding who they are in the larger structure of the universe, and who they could potentially be to one another.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
#spn 14.13#spn 300#destiel#spn s14 spoilers#the scheherazade of supernatural#this is how stories work#and saying destiel isn't the central focus of the story isn't diminishing its presence in the larger narrative#sorry if i kinda ranted and rambled at you here but this is so important to me#aurenia heart

Author Questions
Thank you for the tag, @juls-writes !
1. What is your favorite type of character to write? Characters who are inquisitive and curious! It’s why most of my protagonists are, in some way, curious individuals, because if a character isn’t curious and doesn’t wish to learn more, then, in all honesty, they’re kind of boring to me.
2. What is one theme in your WIP?
The Luck of a King; fight for what is right, as any injustice is a crime against all justice.
3. What’s one physically unique character you have? For the spirit of October and Halloween, in one of my WIPs, I have a fablelife animal (inspired by legendary creatures from the real world) that is referred to as a typhoon whale, based off the Japanese yokai Bake-kujira. Sometimes also called a ghost whale, the typhoon whale is a massive animal that often dives to the deep sea in search of food, and they have a skeleton that is visible through translucent flesh and organs. The whale spends most of its time in the deep sea until it rises for another breath, but when it does, the magic it has creates violent storms that spiral across the oceans and affect nearby nations. Typhoon whales are rare and nobody knows how long they can hold their breath for. Many locals believe that any time a typhoon is seen on the horizon, a whale has breached the ocean’s surface. Few fishermen who see it live to tell the tale.
It’s not a character, but it’s probably one of my favorite designs I’ve made for the species of this world, so I figured I’d include it.
4. What public places inspire you? The entire state of Arizona. It has such a diverse ecosystem but people always imagine it as a just a desert. Otherwise, probably Ireland, some places literally look like a picture taken from a storybook, it’s magical.
5. Do you share your writing with friends/family? Family, no, friends, yes. I mainly don’t share with family because of the fact that they will always say my writing is good, even if it isn’t. At least my friends can let me down easy.
6. Favorite book to movie adaptation? Fight Club! But we shouldn’t talk about that.
7. Favorite villain trope? Villains who, in some form, believe they or what they are doing is a necessary evil.
8. Out of context spoiler for your WIP: She has a sister.
9. What’s your least favorite kinds of characters to write? People who are incredibly obnoxious, mainly because I don’t enjoy people like this.
10. What’s one of your famous author fantasies? Being a big-time author, like JK Rowling level, but not being an idiot like she is. At the same time, that thought it also terrifying. Otherwise, having a TV series that’s about one of my books would be cool, although not having much control over it would really suck; I’d hate for it to end up like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead.
Hmm, I’m gonna tag... @artsybookwyrm , @sj-flemings-writing , @periakman , @authorkimberlygrey , @kei-akatsuka , @jltillary.

hi i am new to comics and i'd like to know how did you even start reading them and like,, how do you choose what character to read, where to start with them, what ORDER to follow (if you even follow them) because i really want to read more and more but idk many characters, i don't want just to read the "popular" ones + i never know where to begin ?? wish i knew a little about a lot of chs so i could pick one to read haha. what are your recs? and how do you pick issues/volumes to read? ty
i got into them through movies and tv i think?? like when i was little i watched stuff like teen titans, b:tas, dd 2003, and justice league unlimited to DEATH. so i had kind of.. prior attachments to characters like wonder woman (i had one w raven but when i actually read comics it wasnt the same??). but then my dad used to read n collect comics when he wasnt an Old Man so i read TONS of old stuff just for the sake of it like i cannot tell you how much weird old shit i have in my comics collection. captain carrot crossover w teen titans anyone????
thats how i got into silver sable because i basically started with a ton of obscure old comics. i dont know how else i would have fell in love with her because they never use her in anything so thanks @ dad @ god
ANYWAY as for how i personally get into them:
if you’re in a situation where you really dont know where to start, i think team books are a good go to?? you can experience a lot of different characters at once and get a feel for what/who you like and who you dont. and then if you want to be more specific in the KIND of team books you read, think of it in terms of what kind of characters do you like in general?? like do you like antiheroes like xforce, straight up heroic kind of ppl ie the justice league or the avengers, teams that stand for a bigger meaning like the xmen, teen heroes like the teen titans or the young avengers
like for me... i like murder teams so i read xforce/dark avengers/secret six
wiki pages never fail. it’s kind of the same process as above like... search the dc antiheroes category or the marvel women category etc
a lot of sites like comicvine have a recommended reasing section for a lot of characters. as well as wiki pages having an ‘appearances’ section that lists every issue they’ve ever been in. which is good for if you have an ultimate fav because you can read EVERYTHING and love them even more. like.... i would be willing to bet i’ve read every elektra thing??? give or take like 5 issues. and thats how i did i. but it’s also good for more general reading because you can see which series a character was in a large chunk of
eg. when i wanted to read more about rose wilson after seeing her in.... i think it was blackest night, i looked and saw that she’d been in the majority of teen titans vol 3, so i read it
for a bigger name character, i would recommend reading their solos (naturally). like search comixology for batman/captain marvel/iron man etc and the first things that come up will be their solos, and the description of that run will usually give you an idea as to how important it is in the character’s narrative
THIS IS SHALLOW BUT I GO ON LOOKS... i love bizarrely white haired characters. i dont know why but if theyve got naturally white hair with no explanation for it then im in. so whenever i see a cover w a white haired character on i read it and its worked out pretty well for me ngl??? silver sable as mentioned, i read all the spiderman stuff i’ve read because of black cat, i read vol 5 of new warriors because of namorita having white hair and then i read backwards and LOVED everything and now theyre one of my favorite teams.
its always easiest to love a character that you relate to. so maybe look into characters that are you sexuality or your gender or your race. like comics can be a very diverse medium sometimes, and then other times, the complete opposite. so it can mean a lot when u find a character you relate to on such a personal level
some reading order places that i know of
marvel/dc (good for events/crossovers)
marvel/dc plus lots of other stuff.i’d say i use this one most because its good at separating eras so you can avoid reading old shit when you dont wanna
reddit, despite being reddit, has a huuuge collection of rec lists
my comic recs tag
most of the time, if you google [character] reading order, someone somewhere will have made one!!
if i find a new character i want to read about i usually do a bit of rec list hunting and then a bit of figuring it out by myself?? like see what the biggest events of their narrative were and where they happened, read the obvious stuff to get a general feel for them, and then if im really into it, read the less important stuff?? so i’d say the process is read a rec list. see what happens > read the descriptions/summaries of the longest runs/most well known solos
for keeping up with stuff weekly, i tend to have a few favourites that i read by the issue, and then a lot of other stuff that i enjoy but dont keep up with?? i like 2 binge it every 5 issues or so and then if it gets really good i graduates to being kept up with
i keep track of what’s coming out each week w this site
aaaand then, i keep up with previews to see whether or not a character i care about is gonna be in anything so i can make sure i read it. eg. i dont generally read amazing spiderman, but silver was in the most recent arc as i found out from the release of the cover, so i immediately knew i was gonna be into it for a few issues
and then also solicits, where descriptions usually give away what’s gonna be worth reading for the month
the best advice i could probably give would be dont overthink it??? who cares if you dont read it chronologically. in my experience, even if you do, there will always be stuff that doesnt make sense because comics are just.... like that. and half of the time, not understanding a reference to earlier stuff isnt gonna impede your comprehension of what you’re reading. most likely its gonna be little things and then later on when you read filler issues you’ll be like oh!!!! thats what they were talking about!! eg. i didnt read civil war until WAY after it happened, but i read stuff surrounding it and because the basic premise was explained in what i read, i didnt feel out of the loop??
so like... dont let any of that put u off. long ass rec lists can be daunting because you just think have i really gotta read all that shit!!! but 90% of the time.. making your own way works just fine, maybe just use recs as a guideline along with other resources
#this feels so long and rambly i hope i actually like.... answered ur questions lmao#anonymous#q & a

so i just finished virtues last reward and im kinda angry because now life is strange kinda makes sense
DISCLAIMER: so its been like.... what.... two or three years since i even watched someone play it? im going off of what i remember which means POSSIBLY i didnt remember an explanation or didnt pay proper attention to it, so be warned
DISCLAIMERx2 COMBO!!!: this is probably some old ass news but even in the height of its popularity i kinda came into the story late and even then i wasnt crazy about it. it was good. i really enjoyed it. but it was easier for me to kind of passively mock it for having bullshitty trumped up time logic. the reason for this AND FOR MY FIRST DISCLAIMER MOSTLY is because the game doesnt really explain it to you or why anythings happening. which is fair i guess. max isnt really a time travel geek or a scientist and short of having mr “time guardian” come out and exposition dump there wasnt much to do. maybe if warren was our protag he wouldve figured it out but i cant really blame max for NOT. especially since it was reality for her. to us we can examine it objectively and understand the rules governing it as we observe the limitations. i mean for all she knew she couldve gone back in time three times and it be over and she could never do it again ever
for my explanation ill be referencing 999 and its sequel zero escape virtue’s last reward as well as homestuck (because for all intents and purposes it makes intelligent use of time travel and with colloquialisms that make it sort of easier to digest than just abstract names.) naturally some spoilers may apply to all three as well as life is strange (obviously)
if you boil the story of life is strange to its most core element, itll start to make sense. life is strange in its simplest form is this: “max caulfield solves a murder/kidnapping mystery.” everything else that happens is just kind of extra or a direct component to that outcome.
i would often complain about how max could get mr jefferson arrested and save kate with her time travelly powers but not chloe when she couldnt have done anything about those things without her power either. i was under the assumption that her abilities were an anomaly and the universe was trying to fix itself by voiding out her effects on the timeline (ie saving chloe). but in retrospect thats kind of really dumb!! why make a story where the protagonist can travel through time but then have the story ultimately be about the universe trying to make it so that everything was the same as before??? it’s silly!! so heres the thing: it was not about that. it was about max getting the information she needed to ultimately solve the mystery (and save kate i guess. im not sure how contingent her survival was to the timeline being “alpha” but if you want to say God or the Sentient Timespace Universe [”Skaia”] were in control of the outcomes and thus dictating maxs actions mayb u could say They wanted to reward kate for being such a devout follower??? maybe her life or death was ultimately inconsequential to the outcome and it couldve gone on with or without her and max was just a good person and saved her. its hard to tell.)
in homestuck there are doomed timelines. timelines wherein something goes wrong that was NOT preordained by skaia (the self-aware universe, essentially, trying to maintain homeostasis in itself) or that directly cause a paradox. one example is davesprite. an action that causes a doomed timeline is john getting himself killed (with a little help from terezi) which leads to a strand where rose and dave are stranded in their game for months. dave then goes back along the timeline to the point that determined whether or not it became doomed. although incidentally, it was the act of him going back in time to stop john from killing himself that splintered the timeline between doomed and alpha (the right one)
thus the doomed timeline was necessary for the alpha timeline to be sustained. and thereafter it ceased to be. in other doomed timelines it either disappears entirely as with davesprites timeline, or everyone just DIES like in the one where vriska and gamzee collectively get everyone killed. it’s the price u pay for not playing the part the universe wrote for u
so in order for max to go along her story to figure out mr jefferson was.... who he was, she had to slip through doomed timelines. timelines that ultimately purged themselves if they went on too long by the means of the big storm. something similar happens in 999 where a certain character gets sick if the story goes in a direction that would lead to a paradox and cause them to not have existed. and if the timeline becomes too far gone, they vanish entirely. this is basically the role of the storm. its not to eradicate the stuff max had done with her powers because she “shouldnt have had them” but because that timeline shouldnt have BEEN to begin with! max was SUPPOSED to have her powers. whether it was all morphogenetic fieldy sciencey reasoning or if “skaia” gave them to her to solve this case, who knows, but its not really all that important.
i could probably explain some of this more easily by using the name of paradoxes, but i forgot most of the official names for them and my computers being kinda silly so i dont feel like taking the time to look them up srry
anyway
max alters the timeline by stopping chloe from dying. they then go on this great big adventure where chole is the ONLY person who could have possibly helped max unravel the mysteries. which i think is fair to say she was the ONLY person to be capable of it bc of her stepdad and her rebellious attitude!
so the two go on adventures and discover what i figured out within the first five minutes of story: MR JEFFERSONS A HORRIBLE PERSON
and chloe dies a bunch along the way because while shes needed to solve the mystery, shes STILL doomed. its like in final destination. you can run from death and avoid a few attempts on your life for a WHILE, but youre still slated for death and gonna die eventually. im not sure it was the universe trying to clear her out like an antibody so much as it was... she was just more susceptible to danger. it also could have been to make maxs powers stronger. the 999 series puts an emphasis on the psychic-y powers being strengthened and honed through LIFE THREATENING SCENARIOS
now in both 999 and vlr (i havent referenced the latter nearly as much as i thought i would!) the events of the games essentially unfold because certain characters figure out that... well... thats what happens!!! so they recreate the event so that it DOES happen so that they CAN have these abilities. they hone their abilities to see and interact through time so that they can avoid MAJOR DISASTERS and fix them, all the way establishing the very parameters that allow them to do so in the first place!
so small summary:
max gets the power to swap out her consciousness from a certain place on the timeline. she does so to save chloe (as a good person and for sentimental purposes) chloe proves to be the key to discovering the mystery behind the shady shit going down at the school she was still ultimately supposed to die though so she dies a bunch along the way because thats just what she does best by working alone doomed timelines where chloe is the only one who can help unearth the mysteries (and to be fair she deserved to be there too since it DID involve her ex-girlfriend) max finally discovers mr jefferson is basically straight up evil and can go back and use the information from her travels to bring him to justice chloes still supposed 2 die tho so shes either wiped out with the timeline by means of the storm that fucks up everyone elses life or she dies unceremoniously in the bathroom because one way or another: SHE WILL DIE max then uses the information to expose jefferson. its kinda weird but i guess paradoxically makes sense that the alpha timeline dictated that for life to progress properly, max had to just MAGICALLY know it was him. (maybe it meant to import me into the game so i couldve called him out as soon as i saw him. or maybe it was only one option. like kate living or not. max can expose him and save the day OR it can go on and be terrible. but that one doesnt have any justice in it so.....) kate lives and thats important? maybe?
basically it was not about trying to undo maxs “rulebreaking” powers
but it was about ENABLING them to do the job the universe/”skaia” (not that life is strange even.... HAS a skaia, but its easy for terminology) had planned for her. which was to fuck over jefferson HARD
the only problem is that to my memory the game never explains this is whats happening. and so when chloe dies youre like “wow nothing mattered.” but the game was never about saving chloe. it was always only ever about solving a kidnapping/murder mystery
it was ALWAYS about that
chloe was never going to stay alive. ever. the final choice was whether or not to return to the alpha timeline or not stay with her as an act of love and get wiped out along with the timeline
but the game doesnt explain this. or how the time travel powers came about or how they work or what they are AT ALL (from what i remember) so it all just seems convoluted and bullshitty
but in reality there IS something driving it. it only took me playing two other games to actually understand what that was.
which is why im not sure i can actually give the writers credit for it because i dont even know if THEY knew what was up or if they just made it up and it was just convenience i was able to apply meaning to it
the fact they (again as i remember) didnt address it in the game makes it really suspect though! and it makes it hard to support them as having done something intelligent. especially when it ended up with tons of players feeling cheated because it fell in line with popular “the illuion of choice telltale style” game lines. so when the final moment came it confused them because nothing informed them that it was ALWAYS a quest of futility and despite maxs emotions or feelings about it, it was never about saving chloe. she was only a tool to achieve the goal of outting jefferson
which i cant say i totally approve of from a general point of view! especially in light of “bury your gays.” but from a time travel-esque mechanic point of view.... yeah it makes sense....
but it doesnt really leave a good feeling. because max and by proxy the player were always under the misunderstanding they could save chloe when in reality they never could.
and the entire game was just. a quest of futility. (in that regard)
but we didnt know. to make it proper, the game shouldve let us into the secret. even if max didnt know and felt cheated at the end, the audience wouldnt feel the same. itd be dramatic irony. wed feel bad but wed know why it had to happen.
anyway, as the Old Woman says in virtues last reward:
“Death was always inevitable.“
#well im ALMOST DONE#i cant have more than like thirty minutes of dialogue yet but as i was digesting the timeline it hit me

Piers Morgan: Im just putting opinions out there. Its my job
This week Morgan has taken on the Womens March, argued with Ewan McGregor, and boasted about being Donald Trumps best British friend. Why does he do it? Does he even believe what he says?
Piers Morgan last cried when his grandmother died, a little more than three years ago. Before that, he cant remember. Im not a crier, really. He sees himself more as a pantomime villain, and I thoroughly enjoy playing up to it. I cant even imagine the pressure of being some kind of national treasure. So for me, the panto villain part, I actually enjoy that whole thing.
Even by his own notorious standards, Morgan has had a fractious week. His Daily Mail column on Monday, which criticised last weekends womens marches, provoked Ewan McGregor to cancel an appearance on Good Morning Britain in protest. Morgan retaliated with another column calling the actor a paedophile-loving hypocrite. Feminists were furious with him all over again when he defended the right of employers to compel female staff to wear high heels.
Then, as Theresa May prepared to meet Donald Trump, he taunted Downing Street by firing off a public memo in the Mail, advising the PM or, to put it another way, showing off about how to approach his friend, the president. If its all going horribly wrong, dont hesitate to mention my name or even give me a call directly from the Oval Office and I will smooth things over. Its the very least I can do for my country. A memorable highlight came with his mute appearance at the National Television awards. He stood beside his Good Morning Britain co-presenter Susanna Reid, who had gagged him with his own tie.
It was Susannas idea, he says. We were in the car on the way, and she said, I think I know exactly how to get a joyous reaction from the nation. And it was indeed one of the great moments in British television, and the nation rejoiced.
The only detail of the weeks dramas that appears to have troubled Morgan was the discovery that working with him makes Reid cry.
I was surprised, he says, suddenly quieter. Because shes never cried at work, never seen her like that at all. So it was an interesting thing for me to discover this week that my co-host quite often goes home from work and cries. Its probably not always unconnected to me. How does he feel about that? A bit uneasy, actually. Quieter still. Yeah. A bit uneasy.
Ive known Morgan a little ever since he was the loud, precociously young editor of the Daily Mirror in the 1990s, and have always enjoyed his company tremendously. But our paths havent crossed since Trumps bid for the presidency propelled the journalist into his surprise new role as the leader of the free worlds best friend in Britain. The pair have been on close terms since 2008, when Morgan won the first series of Celebrity Apprentice, and Morgan now performs the role of Trumps tirelessly loyal defender while constantly claiming to be not a political sympathiser but just a personal friend.
When I watched Morgan reduce a young female guest to tears on Good Morning Britain two weeks ago, berating her as the worst kind of mother, I wondered whether I would still enjoy his company. The tone felt uncomfortably ugly, more in keeping with an altright online troll than the mischief-maker who used to conduct playful feuds with clowns like Jeremy Clarkson. This weeks events could be read by critics as further evidence to support the unhappy impression that cheerleading for Trump has soured Morgan, and turned him into a rightwing, misogynistic bully.
If one is looking for further evidence to confirm that impression, Morgan doesnt disappoint. The 51-year-old bounces into his local pub, just off Kensington High Street, and opens with his reaction to Trumps comments about waterboarding and torture he is exercised by the BBCs misreporting of what Trump said. There is, as you know, a massive debate in America about waterboarding. I dont personally subscribe to torture. But its an arguable point as to whether waterboarding constitutes torture which is startlingly tepid for a man who once campaigned against the abuse of Iraqi detainees by coalition forces.

He refers to a swarm of migration through Europe, and defends Trumps comment about wanting women to be punished for having illegal abortions. It would be a pretty logical thing for somebody who believes abortions a crime.
Critics who suspect Morgan will say anything to generate attention might equally seize upon his admission that this weeks controversies are completely connected to the fact that he has a new series of Piers Morgans Life Stories on ITV next week. He is strategising to maximise publicity all the time, he says freely. Of course! Everyone on TV is. Im just better at it than most of them.
Whether or not Morgan would welcome this, the truth is that I nevertheless find him much more nuanced and less cocksure than his public persona or Twitter feed might suggest. The reliably consistent theme in all of his feuds is intolerance of hypocrisy.
So his objection to the womens marches, he explains, is simply this. How does it help the cause for any woman on that march fighting for genuine issues, for equality and everything else, for one of the lead speakers Madonna to talk openly about having had dreams of blowing up the White House? Im not sure why Morgan would take Madonna seriously, when she herself has said she was speaking metaphorically, and he was willing to take Trump at his word last year (he denied he had meant to incite Hillary Clintons assassination during a rally speech). Because if you make a threat like that at an airport, youd be arrested and put in jail. Why should it be a different rule for Madonna? I point out that she wasnt at an airport, but another speakers incest joke about Trumps daughter struck Morgan as similarly offensive.
Ivanka Trump is a mother of three, very hardworking. I know her very well and I felt really incensed on her behalf when the sisterhood decided to be incredibly offensive about her whilst at a rally designed to counter the anti-women rhetoric of the President Donald Trump. Theres a hypocrisy there which I just found ridiculous. If your main issue with Trump is the way that he talks to people, and the language and the belligerence and the bombast and the wording, then I dont think you should be doing the same thing to him.
What drives Morgan quite mad is hypocritical virtue signalling masquerading as political engagement. Ewan McGregor was basically trying to position me as a great woman-hater. So, I decided to just take a look at his own record in this area, and load of interviews he gave about his great friend Roman Polanski, what a fine man he was, how sorry he was that he had to go to prison, blah, blah, blah and Im like, Really? I wonder how the sisterhood who currently have you down as the No 1 hero for womens rights in the world would feel knowing that Roman Polanski admitted his crime, then left the country to avoid justice when he was facing a long prison sentence for raping, drugging and sodomising a 13-year-old girl?
Why does McGregors affection for Polanksi discredit his feminist credentials, but not Morgans for Trump? Trump hasnt been convicted of raping anyone. Look, my position has been consistently, from day one, that I wouldnt vote for him. But I do know him very well, and I would just like to slightly offer a more tempered view of the man that is being described everywhere as the new Hitler and the monster. I just think now hes there, its like Brexit; I voted remain, but Ive always been a glass-half-full person, and Im prepared to have an open dialogue with people like Nigel Farage about how we now maximise the opportunity of Brexit. The same with Trump. I find the hysteria just pointless and absurd and self-defeating and ridiculous. Ive got friends of mine literally losing their minds. And Im like, calm down, please calm down. I know this guy.
Coming from Morgan, who personally wrote the paedophile-loving headline for his McGregor column, this will strike some as a bit rich, but he goes on: Its very important in this extremity of debate, the kind of thing that led to Jo Cox getting killed, to be calm. Isnt Morgan himself an arch professional provocateur? But Im just putting opinions out there. Im a columnist, its my job. Isnt anyone else allowed to hold contentious views? Of course! And coming from a highly opinionated family, Im drawn to people who have opinions and are prepared to argue them.
I would have thought Madonna, who Morgan never tires of attacking, would fall into that category. No, because she has an opinion quota based on this pure ability to shock and offend, which I find pointless, quite cliched and increasingly very nauseating.
Morgan never tires of attacking celebrities such as Hugh Grant or Steve Coogan either, for whining about the press. But all the complaints made by those two actors wouldnt amount to a fraction of Trumps grievances with the mainstream media, of which Morgan with two newspaper columns and three TV shows is unquestionably a member.
I dont particularly consider myself to be MSM. Id probably be more a kind of renegade; Im RMSM, renegade mainstream media. I dont think the mainstream media has ever fully made me a paid-up member of their club.. As he breaks off this line of thought to tweet about his latest Daily Mail column, I suggest hes on a sticky wicket here. OK, alright. But I am afraid that the journalists have to stop whining.
It was an interesting thing for me to discover that my co-host quite often goes home from work and cries Morgan with Susanna Reid at the National Television awards. Photograph: Jeff Spicer/Getty Images
As a fanatical champion of a robust free press, surely he thinks Trump should stop whining? Its a good point, he concedes. My honest answer is I think theyve all got to calm down . I think Trump has to have a more respectful relationship with the media and they have to have it with him.
For all Morgans ferocious rhetoric, he is surprisingly willing to concede points. Id found his defence of employers forcing women to wear heels suspiciously unpersuasive, and the more we talk, the more ground he gives. Im only saying it to keep the debate going, he admits at one point and when I remind him he praised Julia Roberts for going barefoot on the red carpet at Cannes last year, in protest at the festivals insistence that women attending screenings wear heels, for a fleeting second he looks sheepish. I thought that was quite cool, yes. In an interview with the Times last year, he in fact offered up Robertss protest as an example of what real feminism looked like, didnt he? OK, I think thats a fair point.
Real feminism, Morgan maintains, is not about being a man-hating victim but a strong woman. My mother is an incredibly strong, independent woman. My sister is. My grandmother was. I was brought up around incredibly strong, independent women. Im married to a strong, independent woman. I absolutely define myself as a feminist and take issue with people who think Im not, because by the yardstick of what I give to feminism, which is genuine pursuit of equality in all things for women, I think I pass that test, I do. I do, I love women. Ive always been surrounded bywomen who would never dream of being pushed around by men.
This, I suggest, might be the problem. Go on, he says, genuinely interested. Because Im actually on a learning curve here. When ones only ever known strong women, it can be easy to feel exasperated with those who have suffered experiences that make Morgans idea of strength a pretty tall order. It becomes dangerously easy to get angry with women who stay with their abusers, say, and mistake their predicament for weakness.
I get that. I get it. Totally. He thinks for a moment. I take your point. When I hear that Susanna went home and cried after the show, I would like to have known why, but she would see it as weak to tell me and I dont want her to feel that. He thinks again. You remember, we were put together on Good Morning Britain like an arranged marriage, and I think weve just got to know each other a lot better, and she sees a the upside of having these debates about sexism on air in real time, with me perhaps going on a little bit of a journey of discovery.
Morgans crusade against hypocrisy is, of course, somewhat undermined by the fact that he admits to being a total hypocrite himself Of course! All journalists are! For anyone looking for a reliable rule to explain his wild enthusiasms and fierce feuds, the secret, he says, is really quite simple. Im a human being. If people are nice to me, Im nice to them. An afterthought crosses his mind, and he laughs. Donald Trumps actually pretty similar.
