Amateur sewing - The Goddamn Pirate Poet Shirt
So. I made a thing.
Tumblr media
A vaguely late-18th / early-19th century-style shirt. And I'm saying vaguely because, while this has about the right look, I took a few liberties in construction.
Tumblr media
First of all: I wanted ruffles. None of the tutorials I used added ruffles because, frankly, that's a whole lot of hemming work for not that much length of fabric, but I wanted the frill. Behold. Also visible in this picture: The dropped shoulders, which are in fact according to the historical references.
Tumblr media
The collar from its better side. The other side, I had to extend with a little placket as this shirt has two modes: slutty pirate (open cleavage) and 18th c decency (closed with a cravat), and for the latter option I wanted to be able to shut it with buttons. For which I apparently took the wrong measure from my neck. Problem-solving!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The front placket isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but the closed collar is meant to be covered by the cravat anyway. And check out my darling nacre buttons! I love them so much that I used two on every cuff despite that not being strictly necessary. Probably would have gotten away with one on each side. But. Look. Shiny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Altogether, I think I used up, like, 70 meters of linen thread? Which is not super economical, but 1st, I backstitched really everything, except when I was felling over the (already backstitched) hems. 2nd, there were the underarm gussets, and wherever a reinforcement patch / strip could go on, I put one in, such as both sides of the collar, the slits to both leg sides, the shoulders and cuffs. And 3rd, there were my neat lil' additional bits such as the long, long ruffles, the tie I added into the cleavage, and the cravat.
I learned that linen thread is a bit tricky; it's very strong, but it's not super even, and it knots easily. It also cannot be used in a machine, but I did this entire thing by hand anyway, so that didn't bother me all that much. Not because I'm a stickler for historical practice, but because sewing machines are scary. I may have to tackle this fear for the sake of my fingertips.
Tumblr media
I need to work on my estimation of seam allowance, because I had to clean up the edges on the inside of my shoulder/sleeve seam with twill tape, because I hadn't left enough seam allowance to hem over all that scrunchy, ruffly bit. Twill tape is probably not historical practice for such a shirt; I think this only became a thing after Spinning Jenny was invented, but it served me well. I also need to work on my sewing vocabulary, because I learned most of it online - and thus, English, confusing the hell out of my friend when I didn't understand my mother tongue's term for "seam allowance" because I had literally never heard it XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun fact: I bought the linen for this literally years ago (a bed-set, because it's a lot of yardage for a relatively cheap price; I still have lots leftover). But only now did I sit down and make a shirt out of it, and I love it. The sleeves are so poofy! And all that seaming was worth it; the shirt already had a round in the washing machine, and it's perfectly intact. I think I did a good job!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cravat is, aside from the twill tape inside and the buttons, the only thing that's not 100% linen, because my mom crocheted the lace trim for me from cotton yarn. My draft is not quite how a historical cravat from the 18th / 19th century turn would look, but I honestly don't care; the combination makes the shirt so goddamn fabulous! I love this; it was super worth the work. Time to get on a snazzy waistcoat to go with this <.<

The Real MBTI – an essay a rant by me, motivated by the dear @mazeinthemoon
Warnings: LONG (5330 words), rambling, not beta read, one singular curse word, me being a nerd, english is not my first language, may not make sense at times, may contain grammar and vocabulary errors, passionate but not well articulated. Really just a rant and me trying to explain something I care about. I’m also NOT an expert by any means, I’m not a Psychology major, just some person who happens to hyperfixate be REALLY interested on mbti and analytical psychology. If it gives me any credit, my therapist does have a specialization in analytical psychology.
1. What is MBTI?
MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) is basically just a personality test, but thanks to sites like 16personalities and the internet giving it the same treatment as astrology (disclaimer: I love astrology and MBTI and it’s really sad to see them both being treated as just stereotyped boxes L) it turned into a different thing. Originally it is based on the ideas of this dude (/lh) named Carl Jung. On his book “Psychological Types” he describes what we call ‘Cognitive Functions’, basically different ways people’s brains are wired, explaning tendencies/behaviours/his thoughts on the 8 different psychological types. There are 8 cognitive functions and he describes them separately, so how did we end up with 16 personalities?
Well, there’s this thing called the function ‘stack’ that I’ll go into detail a bit laterksksks but it’s just a way to arrange the functions together. It’s basically (challenge: take a shot every time I say basically here) the way the functions are combined – each type having two different main functions. Add it up and bam: 16 personalities. But where does the myers-briggs come from?
I personally won’t talk much about them, but Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Cook Briggs were a daughter and mother duo that read Jung’s book and theory and were like “hey, this is pretty cool, what if we do something more with it?”, and so they basically gave birth to MBTI and popularized the stack and the 16 personalities.
HOWEVER…… somewhere along the way the mbti test became something else, no longer based on Jung’s cognitive function theory, but on another thing called ‘The Big Five’ test (please don’t quote me on that, I didn’t research this more because I honestly don’t care), separating the 4 letters from their original meaning. I’ll explain what they mean later, but for now, know that (for example) INFJ doesn’t really mean just Introverted iNtuitive Feeling and Judging.
[Update: I actually made an effort and researched more about The Big Five thanks to a lovely anon who explained it to me. More on how The Big Five and MBTI connect here]
ALSO want to clear some misconceptions: your “personality” or “psychological type” cannot change.  This doesn’t mean people can’t change, it just means you can’t change your “brain engines”, basically. The “personality” starts being formed during childhood, and with age, it just develops, for better or for worse. And so, when things happen, sometimes it manifests (as in appears, shows up, acts in a certain way) in a healthy and positive way, and sometimes in a toxic and self-sabotaging way. You can always improve yourself and see new perspectives, but you can’t really change your “programation”. Think of it as your software system, if it makes it any easier to understand.
And another misconception is the percentage thing. I didn’t really wanna ruin the fun (😭) but I also don’t want to spread misinformation. Percentages are not a thing. You’re not 70% feeling and 30% thinking. You’re not 98% introverted and 2% extroverted. Honestly, no one would be healthy with this “stats”. I’ll explain it in more detail in the Stack topic, but everyone has Introverted AND Extroverted function. Everyone has Feeling AND Thinking and everyone has iNtuition AND Sensing. The functions are just treated with different “priorities” by your brain, and if you “abuse” too much of one, it’ll cause a warning, it won’t be healthy. “So basically everyone is an ambivert?” I guess????? Everyone has their moments and we all need to go out sometimes and stay alone other times. It doesn’t mean you can’t have a natural preference, though.  This is getting long, so just hold these thoughts for now because there’s a topic just for thiskkkkk
2. Why should we care?
I mean, to most people it’s just another personality thing, maybe a way to have fun while stereotyping people or to blame all your flaws on like your sun sign (I’m a pisces btw ^^), so… why should we care about it?
I can only speak for me, so… first things first, it is science, so you shouldn’t be so skeptical about it. I like it because it is very well structured and explained, it makes so much sense to me and after you learn about the real thing, you start to notice it in people that are close to you. Also, like every single personality thing, it is a tool used to try and understand people better. To paraphrase an amazing youtuber (channel: dear kristin) it is a tool you can use so you can learn to love others better. When we understand each other, we can love each other better and have more empathy towards each other. It helps in knowing why some people do X and other people do Y when Z happens to them both. It makes it easier to know someone’s thought process and understand why they react a certain way, and it’s also a great tool to perceive people’s flawed tendencies as well as their natural’s strenghs. With this knowledge in mind, we can also focus on being better versions of ourselves.
And also, my most personal reason that I’m so passionate about this is: if I can make the effort and connect to and understand others, it means that people can do it too. If I’m capable of knowing this and seeing what others’ lives are like, it means other people can, even if just a little, understand me and get me. It means I’m not alone or disconnected. It means no one’s really THAT much of a weirdo that no one could possibly understand them. It means that I can be seen and valued the same as others. I’m gonna stop right now before I start crying and ranting about loneliness, thank you for your patiencekkkkk let’s move on.
3. So… then what are Cognitive Functions?
*sighs* okay I’m too lazy to try and explain it first with my own words so I’ll just copy-paste it from Wikipedia: “Cognitive functions, also referred to as psychological functions, as described by Carl Jung in his book Psychological Types, are particular mental processes within a person's psyche that are present regardless of common circumstance.” It’s basically, how I said before, a thought process, a perspective, the way someone’s brain is “programed” or “wired”. Don’t quote me on this but apparently it’s like using some parts of the brain more than others? Like that thing of “are you a left-sided or right-sided brain?” but more complex, I don’t really know how to explain it.
As I said before, everyone has an equal number of functions, which basically means everyone can make choices based on feeling and thinking, for example. What makes it special is that Cognitive Functions are NATURAL behaviours, your go-to’s, the processes you’re so used to doing that you don’t even realize it. In a basic (and unpolished) way, if you’re doing an effort to “make” it on purpose, it’s not a cognitive function. And according to your own preferences, some functions are more developed and others are more repressed. This comes back to the Stack thing *sighs* I promise I’ll get to it, but first we have to learn about the functions themselves. Let’s make some sub-topics:
3.1. Disposition: Introversion vs Extroversion
So, a function’s disposition talks about where its energy flow and its goal. Introversion means the focus is internal, on the self, on subjective things. Extroversion means the focus is external, on objective things and on outside “objects”. Jung talks about it in his book the “object” is basically any external thing, something that is not originated from whithin – be it feelings (the “object” being a place’s atmosphere and social cues, for example) or sensations (the “object” being external stimulation instead of you paying attention to your own body). Being Introverted means there’s a resistance, a kind of unwillingness towards this “object”, while being extroverted means you’re positive towards the “object” and adapting yourself to it. Extroversion expands, Introversion narrows. Extroversion explores and experiments, Introversion organizes and settles. Extroversion focuses on the object, Introversion focuses on the impression of the object. This applies to all functions, and divides them equally: 4 introverted functions and 4 extroverted functions.
3.2. Judging Functions: Thinking vs Feeling
Here comes the J you know from the 4 letters. To put it in a simple way (because I already talked too much and we didn’t even arrive on the functions themselves) Judging Functions talk about how you make decisions. Where you go to when making choices. There are 2 Judging functions: Thinking and Feeling. Copy-pasting again to make it more simple: “These functions determine how you make decisions; based on values, ethics, and the emotional needs of others (feelers) or logic, causality, and efficiency (thinkers).” Each one has their extroverted and introverted “version”, so:
Extroverted Thinking (aka Te), Extroverted Feeling (aka Fe), Introverted Thinking (aka Ti) and Introverted Feeling (aka Fi). Each feeling function has a complementary thinking one and vice-versa, meaning one cannot *be* without the other. Think of it like yin-yang, complementary opposites. If you have one, you have the other. So, Te has Fi (and Fi has Te) and Fe has Ti (and Ti has Fe). They’re often called “axis”, as in “The Fi-Te axis”, because when we talk about one function we often end up talking about their opposite and how they manifest together. The same applies to the following functions.
3.3. Perceiving Functions: Intuitions vs Sensing
This is the P. The Perceiving Functions talk about how you see the world, how you ‘perceive’ things, how you receive information and how you organize it. The perceiving functions are Sensing and Intuition. Again with the copy-paste: “These functions determine how you take in information; through your five senses (sensing) or through patterns and underlying meanings (intuition).” Again, both have their I and E version:
Extroverted Sensing (aka Se), Introverted Intuition (aka Ni) [and together they make an axis], Extroverted Intuition (aka Ne) and Introverted Sensing (aka Si) [also making their own axis.].
4. Oh my god, are we finally gonna talk about whatever the hell the “Stack” is?
Yes. Finally. Will I copy-paste some things? Probably. So…. What’s a Function Stack? Well…
There are 8 cognitive functions, right? Te, Fe, Ne, Se, Ti, Fi, Ni and Si. And I said that everyone has Thinking AND Feeling and Sensing AND Intuition. This means everyone has 4 cognitive functions (ACCORDING TO THE MYERS-BRIGGS THEORY, I’m only focusing on them, but basically what happens is that different people read Jung’s book and made different theories according to their own research and opinion). The Function Stack is just how these functions are organized according to your brain’s own preference and development. Look:
The 1st function, called the Dominant one, is your main function. It’s basically your autopilot, everything you do goes through this function, it’s how you live. “When we use a function that is destined to become “preferred”, we feel an emotional investment in what we’re doing, and we feel in control of our emotional life, so we keep on doing it. We tend to be more stimulated by the function. It then appears to “develop” or get “stronger”, and behaviors associated with it will increase”.
The 2nd, called the Auxiliary function, “helps” your dominant function, as the name suggests. It balances the 1st function and is there to walk beside it, and is not as developed as the 1st.
The 3rd is called… the Tertiary. It’s not as developed as the previous 2, and it is ALWAYS the opposite function of the 2nd one. This happens because of some concepts in Analytical Psychology that I wish I didn’t have to talk about, but I’ll probably make a sup-topic. We often like to use our Tertiary function in a relaxed way, since we have easier access to it that way. Some people describe it as our “Child” function because of that sense of curiosity as well as immaturity that children have, meaning we are curious to use it and enjoy using it in a stress-free way but don’t have the maturity level to use it in the “””right””” way.
The 4th one is called the Inferior function. It is the least developed and most repressed function, and it is ALWAYS the opposite of the Dominant Function. This Function often “comes out” in moments of stress or when we used too much of our dominant one. Because of this, it’s not exactly easy to use it in a healthy way. Because it is the most repressed one, our conscious brain doesn’t really “like” it, so when it comes to the surface it’s often in a toxic way. HOWEVER… it doesn’t mean this function is bad and you should hate it. This is the function that shows us our “weaknesses”, and at the same time, tells us how to overcome them. When people do something “good” aka achieve something with this function, they often feel very relieved, rewarded and satisfied. It’ll always be our least used function, but if we learn how to use it accordingly, we’ll walk one step further on the road that is Self Discovery.
Also just realized that I talked more about the Inferior than the Dominant. Huh.
4.1. SO… how does this work in practice? Is there a formula?
Why, yes, there is. Here’s the cake mold for you.
1st: pick one singular function among the 8 available. That’s the Dominant Function.
2nd: If the first function you chose was a Judging function, now pick a Perceiving function. If the first one was a Perceiving function, now pick a Judging one. The 2nd function brings balance, so it has the opposite disposition of the Dominant one (meaning that if the 1st was extroverted the 2nd will be introverted and vice versa).
3rd: this function is the exact opposite of the 2nd function. Reminder that Thinking is the opposite of Feeling, Intuition is the opposite of Sensing and Extroversion is the opposite of Introversion.
4th: this function, as said before, is the exact opposite of the Dominant function.
Let’s look at an example.
One: let’s say the dominant function is Fi. Fi is a judging function, so the auxiliary function has to be a perceiving. Fi is introverted, so the auxiliary has to be extroverted. That leaves us with two options: Ne and Se. Each auxiliary will make a personality type, giving us TWO personalities with the SAME Dominant Function (and so… 8 x 2 = 16 personalities). For now, let’s go with Ne. So far we have FiNe. The tertiary function is always the opposite of the auxiliary. The opposite of N (intuition) is S (sensing), and the opposite of E (extroversion) is I (introversion), so our 3rd function will be Si. And the inferior function is always the opposite of the dominant one. Well, the opposite of F (feeling) is T (thinking), leaving us with Te. Therefore, the full stack is FiNeSiTe.
Another one: this time, the dominant function is Se. Se is a perceiving function, so the auxiliary has to a judging function, with the opposite disposition. That gives Ti and Fi. Let’s go with Ti right now. The auxiliary is always the exact opposite of the auxiliary, leaving us with Fe. And finally, the inferior is always the exact opposite of the dominant, leaving us with Ni. Therefore, our final stack is SeTiFeNi.
See how every stack has 2 extroverted and 2 introverted functions? That’s to balance out the psyche. Same thing with – again – having T AND F and S AND N. That’s right, everyone is a Thinker, Feeler, Sensor and Intuitive. What differentiates everyone, as we just saw, is how these functions are organized within our brains.
To make it easier, here’s all 16 possible stacks, divided by Dominant Function:
FiNeSiTe / FiSeNiTe
TiNeSiTe / TiSeNiTe
NiFeTiSe / NiTeFiSe
SiTeFiNe / SiFeTiNe
FeNiSeTi / FeSiNeTi
TeSiNeFi / TeNiSeFi
SeFiTeNi / SeTiFeNi.
NeFiTeSi / NeTiFeSi
Bonus: how can we group the psychological types? Honestly, any way you want. For me, what makes the most sense is to groups the types which all have the same cognitive functions (they’ll just be in a different order). You can also group them by: same dominant function, same auxiliary function, Feeling Dominants, Intuition Dominants, Judging Function Dominants, Feeling Doms + Sensing Aux, and the list goes on. It’s just fun to see the ways they could go together.
4.2. Are you any curious why the 3rd and 4th functions are the opposite of the 2nd and 1st?
Well, allow me to try to introduce you to three very important concepts in Analytical Psychology in a very simple (and probably sidetracked?) way: the Self, the Persona and the Shadow.
Think of the Self as…. Like, your “true” Self, the most complete and authentic version of you. “The totality of a person’s being”, according to Jung according to this site I won’t reference said.
The Persona is “a role that an individual chooses to play in life or it is the impression of them they want to express to the outside world”. Think of it as a social “mask” (and no, it’s not being fake, everyone acts in a different way with different people, or are you telling me you treat a boss the same way you treat your sibling?), the surface or “light”/visible part of your personality. In this case, we can make a parallel to the cognitive functions. Persona = Dominant and Auxiliary functions, since they’re the ones that we use to navigate the world.
Now, Jung basically says that when we present something in our Persona, the opposite traits are repressed, but still exist within us. “Despite pushing them away, they may find a way in to our lives, either through what we refer to as out of control reactions, eruptions and being “out of character” in our attitudes and behaviours.” In our unconscious there is a bit of everything we don’t like. This is the Shadow. Bringing it to my analogy, Shadow = Tertiary and Inferior functions, because they’re the repressed and undeveloped ones. To reiterate, the Shadow is not always bad. If in your daily life you’re someone with a low self-esteem and a people-pleaser, in your Shadow there’s a high self-esteem, assertive version of yourself that knows how to set boundaries.
In psychological treatments using Analytical psychology, it’s often said that one of the main goals is the Integration of the Shadow. It means taking parts of the Shadow, looking at them, understanding, feeling, accepting them and learning how to use them to be a better version of yourself aka walking one step closer to the Self.
5. So… what does INFJ mean? What do any of the letters mean?
So, in the first topic I said, with these exact words, “that INFJ doesn’t really mean just Introverted iNtuitive Feeling and Judging.” I mean, they do mean what they mean, but there’s more to it.
The 4 letters aren’t supposed to be an acronym, they’re supposed to be a code. Yes, there’s a secret (not really) encoded message in the 4 letters of your mbti type!!! And what do they reveal?????
Your cognitive functions. Your function stack. That’s right, it was in your faces the whole time, and only now someone decided to tell you about it. So… how do you find it?
Let’s start with the INFJ example (because that’s my type!!! ^^). We’ll use it to see the formula for the 4 letters in ANY type.
The 1st letter – I or E: this shows us the Disposition/Energy of the Dominant Function of the type. In the case of the INFJ, the Dominant function will be an Introverted one (Fi, Ni, Si or Ti). But how do we know what functions are here?
The 2nd letter – N or S: this shows us our Perceiving function. “But doesn’t everyone have Intuition AND Sensing?” Yes, but when it comes to the code (or the 4 letters), they only show the Dominant and Auxiliary functions. In the case of the INFJ, we know that the Perceiving Function is Intuition, but we still don’t know if it’s Ni or Ne.
The 3rd letter – F or T: this shows us our Judging function. The same things said in the 2nd letter apply on this one. In our example of the INFJ, we know that the Judging function is Feeling, but again, we still don’t know if it’s Fi or Fe.
The 4th letter – J or P: Now here comes the catch. Being a J doesn’t mean you’re organized and being a P doesn’t mean you’re spontaneous. This letter reveals to us…. Which function is our EXTROVERTED function!!!! Being a XXXJ means you either have Fe or Te and being a XXXP means you have Ne or Se. It’s ALWAYS the Extroverted function, so it means your other function is the Introverted one. SO, if the INFJ is a J, it means that the Judging function (which we learned is Feeling), is the extroverted one, so…. Fe!!! This automatically means that the Perceiving function (in this case, Intuition) is introverted, so… Ni!!!! The two main functions of the INFJ are Fe and Ni!
Bringing it all together: So, if you go and think further about this, you’ll go…. “Hey. ENFJ also has the same functions, Fe and Ni”. And here comes the part about the Stack. Remember how the 1st letters shows us the energy of our Dominant function? If the INFJ is introverted, the order will be Ni and then Fe. For the ENFJ, it’ll be first Fe and then Ni. Applying our knowledge from the Stack topic, we can now say that the INFJ function stack is NiFeTiSe, and the ENFJ is FeNiSeTi.
Another example, let’s go with INFP.
1st letter: it shows us that the Dominant function is Introverted (we still don’t know which one).
2nd letter: it shows us that the Perceiving function is Intuition. N for iNtuition. We still don’t know if it’s Ne or Ni.
3rd letter: it shows us that the Judging function is Feeling. We still don’t know if it’s Fi or Fe.
4th letter: here it isss! It tells us that the Perceiving Function is the Extroverted one. So…. The INFP has Ne!
Bringing it all together: So, if the N is extroverted (Ne), automatically the F has to be introverted (Fi). Since the INFP is an… well, IXXX, it means the introverted function is the Dominant one. Applying the Stack Formula, we have the INFP function stack – FiNeSiTe.
You can also figure out the 4 letters from the function stack, kinda like revere engineering. Fun challenge: go back to the Stack list and try to assign the type letters to each one. Remember: the 4 letters only show the Dominant and Auxiliar Functions!
Also, in case you’re wondering how to pronounce the functions abbreviated forms, just say the letters in a separate way. Fe = eff-ee. I mean, there aren’t rules, really, so when I talk in my native language I just pronounce the syllable (as in pronouncing Fe as /Feh/ and Ti as /Tea/).
6. Is this when you finally talk about the functions themselves?
Yes. Finally. It only took almost 3.9k words to arrive here. But we’ll finally talk about how each function works. HOWEVER….. have in mind that each function “behaves” differently according to its position in the stack. What I’ll present here is the main gist, the basic meaning of the functions, the summary of the summary, with maybe some examples on how they look when unbalanced or unhealthy. If by now you’re REALLY interested, feel free to search more about it. Search something like “*insert function here* in all 4 positions” (or 8, if you want to see other models). One youtube channel that goes into this is INFJinxed. Another channel I really like, for knowledge AND comedy sketches, is dear kristin.
Now… after 4k words, let’s talk about each function individually. Finally, I’ll keep it simple, but I also recommend you going to the channels previously mentioned if you want to learn about them in a more detailed way. I’ll start with the Extroverted ones, then the Introverted.
Also, keep in mind that these summaries are how I got to understand the functions after doing my own research and reading Jung’s book, because 99% of the time I had no idea what people meant when they were repeating their static definition of the functions. If you want to look at other ways to explain the same thing, you can always do your own research, there are A LOT of people that already explained them.
6.1. Extroverted Thinking aka Te.
This function talks about objective norms, tradition, empirical truth, universal ideas, formulas (in any way), justice, and necessary actions. The ends justify the means. When unhealthy it turns into dogmatism and perfectionism. Think of “it HAS to be this way, and anyone who says otherwise is WRONG”. When unhealthy, everything is black and white. This is a result of the Inferior Fi coming through.
6.2. Extroverted Feeling aka Fe.
Fe talks about emotional accommodation and adaptation, objective or traditionally shared values, the feelings of sharing and belonging, “reading the room”, perceiving social cues and setting an atmosphere, what feels reasonable and/or fair. When unhealthy it turns into fakeness (lack of genuineness) and making negative/pessimistic generalizations. This has to do with Inferior Ti coming through.
6.3. Extroverted Sensing aka Se.
Se talks about being binded to anything sensorial, external stimulations, object conditioning, physiology, concrete processes/objects, realism, things for what they are, having sensations and enjoying them, also kind of an impulsiveness (as all extroverted functions are, but this means physical impulses). When unhealthy it turns into exaggerated skepticism, futility and lack of critical thinking.
6.4. Extroverted Intuition aka Ne.
Ne talks about an attitude of expectation, seeing external tendencies, searching infinite possibilities, a desire to explore and never to settle, being an adventurer (talking about ideas and ideals) and having a hunch. Think of it like having an itch to explore concepts, and after you scratch one, you’re “satisfied” and another itch appears. When unhealthy it turns into “jack of all trades, master of none”, lack of compromise and commitment, a type of detachment and paranoia.
6.5. Introverted Thinking aka Ti.
Ti talks about critical thinking, subjective and relative truths (“but what really is the truth?”), analysis of perspectives, theorizing, exposure and development of ideas (but not focused on applicability), debating and discussing. When unhealthy it loses sense, turns cold and inflexible, turns gullible and overly emotional, links their own truth to their Self (can’t separate own ideas from own personality, so criticism is viewed as a personal attack). Think of stereotypical philosopherskkkkkk.
6.6. Introverted Feeling aka Fi.
Fi talks about intimacy, fidelity to one’s own feelings, intensity instead of expression, internalizing things, an ease in being attuned to your own emotions (identifying, knowing, understanding and properly feeling them), focusing on your impression of things, the saying “still waters run deep”. When unhealthy it becomes egocentric, victimist and detached from others.
6.7. Introverted Sensing aka Si.
Si talks about subjective perception aka it doesn’t focus on the fact itself/what happened but on what it felt like/the impression it left, the external object only acts as a stimulation for the perception, also talks about cumulative experience and knowledge, resistance, persistence, attachment, focusing on summarizing, reducing and on the subjective participation. The reference is not the object, but the reaction to (coming in contact with) the object. When unhealthy it turns into obsessiveness, paranoia and hypochondriasis.
6.8. (Finally) Introverted Intuition aka Ni.
Not gonna lie, this function was kinda hard for me to explain because I just live it, every single day. It really is so natural to me that it’s hard for me to put this “explanation lens” on it. But here it is.
Ni talks about focusing on the elements of the unconscious, guidance by internal movement, mental images “triggered” by external things, an easiness in perceiving the processes of the unconscious, seeing underlying meanings, formation of ideals, “timeless knowledge” (to learn more, search about the Collective Unconscious and Archetypes), focus on the “How?”, the ability to generate visions (in the future/goal kind of meaning) and to speculate. What this function feels like is as if the meanings/ideas existed as separate entities, disconnected from one’s own mind, even if they were created internally. Think of that one Miley Cyrus meme: wHat Does it MEAN??? WHAT does it mEAN? When unhealthy it turns into a disconnection from the real world, physical sensibility and exaggerated attachments to things/people as well as dissociation.
7. Oh wow… that was a lot. So how can I know my type, then?
So. There are some tests you can do online based on the cognitive functions, but honestly the best way to know your type is learning about them and recognizing the functions in yourself. The information I just gave you here can be a great starting point, feel free to expand your research and see other explanations and points of view. Maybe my explanation just doesn’t click for you and you might understand the functions better as straightforward key-words or even as complicated metaphors. Good luck on your self-discovery journey ^^
Also, the internet may try its best, but an ACTUAL REAL Typology test can only be applied by a licensed therapist. That’s how I learned about my own type. My true type, because for YEARS I thought I was an INFP because of my misunderstanding of the cognitive functions. I did this +5k rant so you didn’t have to go through what I went through.
8. So… are we done?
Oh my god, I guess???????? We’re done???? Oh shit. I can’t believe I actually did this. And now I don’t really know what to saydkdkdkskkkkk. But I have an idea on where to start.
Dear Moon, what a crazy ridekkkkk I did tell you I was REALLY passionate about this and I did spend hours revisiting my knowledge and somehow studying for fun while doing this.
Thank you for encouraging me to infodump, I’m not really used to people being interested on my interests, so this really moved me (emotionally). Thank you for interacting with me and being so kind, I try my best to give the same treatment but I hope life/the universe/whatever cosmic energy you might believe in gives you back the good energy you put into the world, because I can only do so much.
I think I’m getting emotional because it’s almost midnight where I live and I’m quite sleepy, but I just couldn’t stop working on this. I really wish you all the best. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Remember to drink water. Treat yourself with the same kindness you offer us dear moots on this website/app. Thank you again for reading what turned out to be ACTUAL TEN PAGES!!!!!! And also +5.2k words. Have a wonderful night.
And thank you to everyone who read this until now. I’m just some nerd who likes mbti and decided to share the little I know on the internet, through my own point of view. If you happen to be a psychology major, licensed therapist or someone who also studies and/or understands mbti and analytical psychology, feel free to correct anything I might have explained wrong or unclear, as well as add your own thoughts. These are just my 2 cents, after all.
Have a great day, everyone. I’m Gio. This was my rant.

Surprise, Captain!
__
Vicar Max x Fem. Captain
Warnings: Language.
A/N: I’m gonna just...leave this here.
Word Count: 4,053
“So, is it possible...at all?”
__
She was always very vigilant and careful about this sort of thing pre-hibernation. She knew the risks and knew how drastically her life would change if she suddenly had a child to take care of. Not that she didn’t want a child; quite the opposite in fact. It was just that she wasn’t ready for that kind of responsibility at that age, nor did she want it.
Truthfully, sex (more specifically, the chances of pregnancy) wasn’t really her first concern when she was awoken by Phineas from the Hope. She definitely had much more on her plate than that. She knew it would happen at some point or another. She just didn’t expect it to be with anyone from her beloved crew.
It didn’t take long for Vicar Max to end up in the Captain’s bed. They had chemistry from the very beginning and it was only a matter of time before they finally crashed together. Their relationship was bliss. She was the happiest she had ever been. It wasn’t until one morning that began the first bump in their relationship.
She woke up that morning much later than usual. So much later, in fact, that she was the last one to get up to begin the day. She had been awfully fatigued the last week or so, but had brushed it off due to the fact that they had been going hard for the last few months. She exited her room and walked up the stairs into the kitchen to see her crew scattered about. Her eyes directed to Max instinctively, her heart warming at the sight of him. He was sitting at the table with a book in his hands. She watched as his eyes scanned every word of each page, his brows furrowed in thought and focus. He finally caught her gaze, offering a slight smile with a twinkle in his eye.
Felix was the first to announce her entrance;
“Mornin’, Boss!” He chirped.
She grinned at his enthusiasm, offering a small wave;
“Good morning, everyone.” She greeted.
“You sure slept late.” Ellie noted from the other side of the kitchen.
Ellie and Nyoka were the most observant of the crew. They always could tell when something was up. There wasn’t much that got past them. Ellie had been especially cautious in paying attention to the symptoms the Captain had been having. Ellie had an inkling that the Captain might be pregnant. No one knew that Max and the Captain had been together. That was the one thing they had managed to keep under wraps. Ellie knew better than to ask in front of everyone.
“Yeah. All this running around is catching up to me.” The Captain explained.
Ellie nodded silently, but the wheels in her head were turning. Max closed the book in hand, setting it on the table before retrieving a bottle of fizzy tea from the fridge. He poured it into a cup and sweetly offered it to the Captain where she stood at the counter. She accepted it gratefully and raised the cup to her lips. However, the second she caught the familiar mock-apple scent, she felt her stomach become immediately queasy.
A disgusted groan escaped her lips and she moved the cup away from her. She pressed the back of her hand to her nose and swallowed to keep the threatening bile from coming up from her stomach. Everyone’s heads turned to her at the sound of her gag.
“You okay, Cap?” Nyoka asked from her place next to Felix.
Thinking the tea had expired, the Captain asked;
“How long has this been in there? I think it’s spoiled.”
Parvati’s light voice chimed in;
“There’s no way. I just picked those up yesterday. They should be fine for a few weeks!” She claimed.
Max took the cup back, bringing it up to his own nose. He shrugged;
“It seems perfectly fine to me. I was under the impression that it was your favorite...” Max replied, feeling like he had been mistaken.
The Captain shook her head in confusion;
“It is my favorite. I drink it all the time,” She recalled; “That’s so weird.”
That was when the idea first came into her head. It was a quick, almost passing thought. There was no way she could be pregnant...right? It was also in that moment that she realized that she and Max hadn’t been using any kind of protection. The thought had never occurred to her honestly.
Suddenly, she felt nauseous, but not from the smell of the drink. Now was definitely NOT the time for a baby. She had the fate of the colony on her shoulders. How was she going to have the time to grow and raise a child? This was bad. Surely her 70 year hibernation had altered her fertility in some way...there was only one man to ask.
“You don’t look so good, Cap. You sure you’re okay?” Nyoka asked again, now suddenly having the same thoughts that Ellie was having.
The Captain smiled briefly, not wanting to make an issue of it. She assured them she was fine before booking it to the navigation terminal. She needed to see Phineas ASAP. A million things were going through her mind. How could she take care of a kid? What scared her more was the question of Max. Would he stick around if she was with his child?
While the ship was in transit, the Captain meandered around, finding absolutely anything to keep her distracted. She found herself passing by Ellie’s room. If there was anyone she trusted to keep her secret, it was Ellie Fenhill. The Captain knocked lightly on the outside wall, catching Ellie’s attention;
“Can we talk?” The Captain asked.
“Uh-oh. The most dreaded sentence in human history. What’s up?” Ellie replied.
The Captain looked over her shoulder to make sure no one was around. Well, to make sure Felix wasn’t around. He’d tell everyone in the colony if he found out.
“Did...you ever have much experience with pregnancies when you were in Byzantium?” The Captain questioned.
Ellie suddenly knew that the Captain had the same concerns she did. Ellie humored her;
“Oh, sure. Plenty of them,” She clamored; “I see you had your first bout with morning sickness earlier.”
It was a little bit of a relief to the Captain that Ellie was already picking up what she was putting down. She fully entered the room and closed the door.
“I don’t even know if it’s that...but I suppose it could be. I’ve got to talk to Phineas and see if it’s even a possibility. You know, with the hibernation and all...” The Captain trailed off.
Ellie leaned back in the chair she was sitting in;
“Female fertility is tricky. It can be affected by the smallest of things. I’m willing to bet that you’re fine, but if you’re having symptoms then you definitely need to see what Dr. Welles says,” She suggested; “Also, I feel as if it’s now my business to ask. Whose is it? It’s not like any of us have had any real time to settle down.”
The Captain’s silence was misconstrued by the foul mouthed sawbones;
“Oh, shit. You don’t know, do you?” She asked.
The Captain was quick to respond to that;
“No, I do...Ellie, I’m serious you can’t say anything if I tell you.” The Captain said almost as a threat.
Ellie threw up her hands in defense;
“My lips are sealed.” She promised.
The Captain drew a deep breath. Here goes nothing.
“I’ll be honest. Max and I-”
“I fucking knew it!” She said leaping up from her chair; “I knew the two of you were a thing!”
The Captain was startled. How could she possibly have known? The two of you had worked so hard to keep things quiet.
“What? How?” She bantered back.
“The long looks, the lingering around each other, the way he goes back to his room early in the morning. I knew the two of you were sleeping together!” She exclaimed.
The Captain would admit, she was amused by this. She’d expect nothing less of Ellie. Still, the Captain still had a huge dilemma on her hands. ADA interrupted their conversation, announcing that they had landed. After what felt like an eternity, The Unreliable was docked at his lab.
“I need to go. We’ll talk later.” The Captain said, exiting her room.
She cut through the kitchen to get down to the airlock, but was stopped just as she got to the top of the ladder;
“You going alone, Boss?” Felix asked standing from the table.
“Yeah, I won’t be long. I just need to check in with Phineas.” She lied.
Max entered from his own room;
“I’m not sure that’s a great idea. I think someone should go with you.” He suggested.
Normally, this was Max’s way of saying ‘I want to go with you’, but there was no way she wanted Max to be there with her when this went down. Instead of asking Max, she called out;
“Ellie and Nyoka, let’s go.”
Ellie and Nyoka appeared quickly and down the stairs, ready to go. The Captain looked at Max, disappointment clear on his face. She shot him an apologetic look before climbing down the ladder. She didn’t even bother gearing up other than making sure she had her pistol on her. She hoped this wouldn’t take long.
Phineas was in his lab, behind his bullet proof glass as usual. He beamed at the sight of the Captain and her selected crew;
“Ah! Captain! What can I do for you?” He offered.
She looked at him with a worried expression;
“I have some questions...” She stated meekly.
“Of course. Anything. What’s on your mind?” He asked.
She looked over her shoulder at Ellie who was watching intently and Nyoka who wasn’t sure what was going on. The Captain didn’t want more people to know about this than necessary. She used her more extensive vocabulary to cloud what she was actually saying.
“Phineas, would the chemicals used to keep me in suspended animation have any sort of negative impact on my reproductive system?” The Captain asked as eloquently as possible.
Not surprisingly, Nyoka saw straight through the Captain’s bullshit. Her eyes widened and her voice was loud in the room;
“Oh, shit! Cap, are you knocked up?” She questioned anxiously.
The Captain turned to look at her;
“Nyoka, please.” She begged.
Ellie jumped on the shot;
“Just wait until you hear who daddy is.” Ellie snorted with a smirk, looking over at Nyoka with crossed arms.
“Ellie!” The Captain shrieked.
“What? Who?!” Nyoka pressed on.
“Oh, you know. Just The Unreliable’s very own priest.” Ellie spilled.
Nyoka’s face fell and her jaw dropped;
“Max? The vicar? Cap, you sneaky bitch!” She smiled brightly.
The Captain’s cheeks burned with embarrassment, Phineas’ voice cutting in;
“Captain, I’d be worried if you hadn’t partaken in those kinds of activities. I wasn’t sure how it would have been affected. If pregnancy is a...concern, I can  run a simple test to know for sure.”
The Captain was overwhelmed. She was stressed from the mission and now suddenly she was terrified that she might be carrying a little one. There was a lot at stake. A baby was not something she was prepared for.
“So, is it possible...at all?” The Captain replied.
“Well, there’s no way to accurately tell how your infertility has been affected, but I would venture to say it absolutely is possible.” Phineas responded
It didn’t take long for Phineas to conduct the test. He made it sound complicated, but really he just took a blood sample to be tested. Sure enough, within a half hour he had the results. The Captain stood in front of him, Ellie and Nyoka at her sides.
“Good news, Captain!” He shrilled; “I can conclude that your test is negative. You are not pregnant.”
A collective sigh of relief could be heard from the Captain and the two women next to her. This had been a scare for everyone involved.
“So, the nausea and fatigue were just coincidences?” The Captain wondered.
Phineas shrugged;
“I would say yes. Do understand, side effects will be present for a little while longer. You were frozen for quite awhile.”
As relieved as the Captain was...she felt the smallest twinge of disappointment in her chest. She didn’t want to admit it, but she had the slightest bit of hoping that she was pregnant. The Captain was already in her 30s and her time to have a kid was now. Within the next five years or so, having a kid wouldn’t have been a wise choice. However, with the way the colony was now, she wasn’t sure that dream would’ve ever been reality.
She realized something else now. She was going to have to tell Max. They were very honest within their relationship. It was something they had been adamant about since the beginning. She knew that if there had even been a question that she might’ve been pregnant with his child, then he deserved to know.
They bid farewell to Dr. Welles, finally heading back to the ship. The Captain was unusually quiet for the given circumstances, which was a surprise to Ellie and Nyoka. Neither of them were the ones to pry into business that wasn’t theirs. They knew that the Captain didn’t have to confide in them and that their boundaries of respect should be appreciated. Although, Ellie knew the psychological effects of things like this.
As the three of them approached the entrance of the ship, Ellie gripped the Captain’s shoulder.
“You wanted it to be positive, didn’t you?” Ellie asked bluntly.
The Captain’s hesitance was all Ellie needed as an answer. The Captain’s eyes shifted to her feet and a heavy, sad sigh escaped her chest.
“No...I don’t know.” She eventually replied.
She entered the ship first, only closing the airlock once she made sure they were all safely inside.
“Hey, Cap...” Nyoka’s soothed; “Don’t be so down about it. You’ve still got plenty of years in you.”
Her words were true, but not any more comforting. Still, the Captain smiled genuinely and thanked them both for being there for her. Nyoka’s statement stuck around with the Captain for several minutes after. Did she really have any time left for a kid? Would she have been better off to have had a child when she was still in her 20s?
She had lots of questions to consider that would weigh heavily on her conscience for the next little while, but she still had one thing she needed to do.
She had to tell Max.
It was fairly late now, far too late in the evening to really go do anything. They’d stay in orbit until in the morning where they would dock at Groundbreaker to get some supplies. The Captain carried herself up the stairs with shaky hands and a pounding heart. She had never had to tell anyone anything like this. How do you simply tell your boyfriend that you’ve just had a pregnancy scare with his child?
She was unsure of how to approach this. Even worse yet, she had no idea how he’d react. Max was significantly older than her. She didn’t care. He didn’t care. But having a baby in your early 50s is way different than when you’re in your 30s. Would he have even wanted to raise a kid at his age? Would he have left the crew? The Captain was beginning to realize just how many things she would have had to consider if she had actually been pregnant.
Her room was comfortably warm and even more inviting at the sight of Max stretched out on her bed. He was in a very light sleep, his arm draped over his eyes as he breathed slowly. The book that was haphazardly discarded onto the floor as evidence that he had been waiting up for you. She smiled softly, her eyes raking over his frame. His toned biceps, his fit core, his hair...Law, she had it bad.
The Captain was quiet as she entered, being careful not to wake him yet. She removed her boots to leave her clad in her socks and soften her footfalls. She picked his book up and smoothed out the pages that had gotten ruffled from being squashed into the floor. She closed it and set it back at the bedside. He always liked to read in the mornings before the Captain woke up.
She eventually mustered up the courage to wake him. She sat on the very edge of the bed, placing her hand on his shoulder and gingerly shaking him awake. He stirred from his slumber, a little miffed for a moment from being awoken. His mood quickly changed when he saw it was just his stunning captain. He looked up at her from where he lay on her bunk;
“Captain, you’re back.” He noted.
She nodded;
“Yeah. We just got back.” She replied casually, still mapping out how she was going to tell him.
He sat up from his position, shaking his head quickly to rid his head of it’s haziness.
“How was Dr. Welles?” He asked curiously.
She nodded again and offered a somewhat convincing grin;
“He was fine.” She answered shortly.
Her brain couldn’t think of anything to say now. At this point, she was at a loss. Truth was, Max had a gut feeling that something was going on. Between her previous reaction to the tea and her refusing his assistance off the ship, he had a notion that something wasn’t right. He had yet to put his finger on it. He leaned his head against the headboard and his hand on her leg.
“Darling, if I’ve done something to upset you in any way, I would like you to tell me.” He requested.
The Captain was quick to deny what he was insinuating;
“Oh, no. You haven’t done anything at all,” She admitted; “I just had some...concerns I needed to air out with Phineas.”
His curiosity was sparked now. What was she on about?
“What kind of concerns?”
She sucked in a breath and looked away at the adjacent wall. This was so much harder than she wanted it to be.
“Max, I went to Phineas because...I thought I was pregnant.”
Now, in all his years, Max had heard his fair share of startling things. This topped them all. The Captain watched as he blankly stared back at her for what seemed like forever. Every ounce of color drained from his face as he attempted to process what she had just said. Her heart was beating violently in her ears. She wanted him to say something. Anything at all. Eventually, he gave a very bleak response.
“Okay.” He replied.
The Captain froze for a moment before responding;
“Okay? That’s all you’re going to say?” She asked, slightly annoyed.
He wasn’t really sure what to say. He hadn’t ever dealt with this before.
“In my defense, I didn’t expect that at all.” He bantered.
She figured that was fair. She didn’t exactly break the news easily. Another silence ensued after. She was fighting tears and he desperately racked his brain for something to say. She had been scared and honestly, she was disappointed now.
“What did he say? Are you?” He asked, biting the bullet.
She shook her head no, eyes averted to the floor. The color slowly returned to his face and he didn’t feel like he was going to faint anymore. However, he was more worried about her. He watched her intently, studying her expression and behavior. He could tell she was upset about it. He had accepted long ago that kids weren’t probably in his future. Not because he didn’t want them, but he was about a decade past the usual first time parent age. He couldn’t miss something that he never had, right? Truth was, he struggled with it sometimes. He had been so committed to OSI and the Plan that he never settled down with anybody. Before he knew it, his parenting days were long gone by. Now, he felt terrible that she was taking this so hard.
“It wasn’t something we had ever talked about. Not that we had any reason to,” She sniffed; “I was just so scared. I wasn’t sure it was even possible for me and I didn’t know how you were going to react and-”
“Hold on,” He interrupted; “Surely you didn’t think I was going to be upset, were you?”
She shrugged, finally looking at him. Tears were brimming her delicate eyes.
“I wasn’t sure. A kid is a big responsibility.” She admitted.
He sat up to where he closer to her;
“Of course, but I wouldn’t think any less of you. I wouldn’t just disregard you that way. I assure you of that.” He confessed.
He noted that she didn’t exactly have a moment of relief at what he was saying. There was something bigger going on. Sure, she was comforted that he was unhesitatingly willing to stick around like that, but suddenly that wasn’t the hard part of this endeavor.
“Something tells me that’s not completely what you’re occupied with,” He astutely claimed; “What’s really going on?”
“There was just a little sliver of hope that maybe I was...” She blurted.
His eyes shifted to the nearest wall for a moment and he nervously shuffled his feet. This wasn’t a conversation he ever thought he would have. He was unprepared, and surely didn’t want to say the wrong thing.
“Well, that’s perfectly normal.” He stated.
“Is it?” She questioned; “How could I possibly miss something I never had?”
He breathed out a short laugh. He knew that feeling all too well.
“It’s not as insane as it sounds. It can be rather easy to fall in love with the idea of something and forget it isn’t actually true. Though I doubt that offers you any sort of comfort.” He rubbed her leg.
She didn’t speak for a while. He used this time to attempt to persuade her.
“I can see you’re disappointed, and rightfully so. But would you really have wanted to raise a child?”
The tears she had been fighting finally slid down her cheeks, a heartfelt confession escaping before she even had a chance to process it.
“I wanted to raise a child with you.”
His eyes went wide at that. He was stunned. He didn’t realize just how much she wanted this. He hated to disappoint her, because at the end of the day, he was the part of the equation that made it impossible. Sure, raising a kid on a ship in the middle of space was challenging. However, the real kicker was the fact that his days of having a kid were long gone, realistically.
She was trying to pull herself together. She wasn’t making it any easier on him by making him feel bad about. That wasn’t her intent to make him feel bad about something that wasn’t his fault.
“[Y/N], I...” He struggled to find the right words; “I’m sorry.”
She shook her head, wiping away the tears that made her feel so vulnerable. At least they reminded her that it was okay to feel this way sometimes. She couldn’t be her best all the time.
“It’s not your fault. I’ll get over it soon enough,” She said; “I love you, and I’m lucky to be spending my life with you.” She said shakily.
He held her hand to his face, kissing her overworked skin. This wasn’t how he wanted tonight to go. But he knew that not every evening with her could end blissfully perfect. That was something he had gotten far too used to.
“I love you, Captain. Baby or no baby.” He kissed her forehead now.
She moved to snuggle next to him, still trying to stop her crying. Every trembling breath she took made his heart sink a little more. He knew she’d be okay with time. She’d come to terms with it and they’d live their normal lives. But for now, she had some healing to do.
And he’d be there for her every step of the way.

@guttersniper said : 1. what inspires woods to go into teaching? 2. what would his favorite tv shows be? 3. does he have a hangover cure? 4. what event in his childhood does he think about the most?
this is going to be. so long. cookie to anyone who reads it all 😭 i can’t compress
1) what inspires woods to go into teaching?
i think multiple factors play into this so.. uh. Majorly opening the floodgates. namely, i think it has to do with him being distanced from his lesbian aunt at like age 10/11 which is kind of a crucial point in development, recognising that his general education (did not attend private school or university) was watered down as hell in both the UK and the US, and he didn’t learn any real life shit (or felt inspired to read again) till he was on the road with activist musicians. i think he sees education as less about positional success and more about knowledge as a gateway to compassion, understanding, & creativity. more extensive details on this below...
woods’ (lesbian) aunt aster, a studying plant ecologist & avid reader, would be very encouraging with books when he is young & he takes an interest in absorbing knowledge because of her unusual “outdoorsy” approach outside of regular schooling. sadly, as he gets to his teens woods is separated from aster by his father (sibling rivalry). with this distance from an encouraging voice, he feels more cynical about reading & gen. ed. and doesn’t have much faith in himself as a writer either; his father degrades his creative expression, believes it’s fanciful and pointless, claims “poets didn’t win the war for us”, etc. i think in later years after his father has passed, and after some self reflection and the reunion with his aunt, he would understand the importance of knowledge in youth and how... plants only grow if they are in the right soil & nurtured according to their specific needs. the song “im the sky” by norma tanega very much sums up this perspective he’d have in the 80s.
when he is in high school, he’s well on his way to a successful footballing career at a university (father’s wishes as the family isn’t well off financially) and he’s resigned himself to thinking ‘this is my vocation’ because he’s been putting all his time & energy into it up to that point, has nothing else to fall back on. unfortunately, he pushes himself too hard and ends up with an injury. while out of commission, he is encouraged to coach the team. this alternate option gives him a different perspective and he actually is... listened to and looked up to for once. he realises he’s good at encouraging people, recognising when everyone needs a break, and assigning roles to people based on their strongest skills - the team benefits when everyone is doing what they are best at in their own way. this is his first taste of “guidance” and “leadership”. he coaches with empathy and clemency as someone who has been stretched thin, but he dislikes the competitive corporate nature of professional athletics and veers away from that career.
he meets trevett allen, the eventual crowe’s wings lead singer, in his last year of school. trevett is an extremely intelligent but misunderstood classmate who is constantly mistaken for woods’ brother. the two become ‘unlikely’ friends and actually find they have a lot in common. trevett introduces him to the beat generation in literature, but its not until woods is on the road with the band and meeting other creators that he begins reading & writing again in small inspired bursts. i think being in this crowd of musicians, most of which who have come from low-income backgrounds, would make him realise that there is a whole lot people aren’t being taught in school...
i think even before going into school for his degree, he would have a general interest in language and words and how they are used culturally to alienate or include or hierarchise people who have different modes of communication. as he gets more into the area of education, he likes to examine how vocabulary is taught/what books are assigned reading, and how everyone visualises definitions individually in the context of their own experience/story.
i could go on. but i’m gonna finish this up by saying - HE would tell you that his reason for going into teaching was “to learn more.”
2) what would his favorite tv shows be?
  twilight zone / dark shadows / the man from U.N.C.L.E. / star trek /  doctor who / monty python’s flying circus / abbot & costello / carl sagan’s cosmos... the list goes on 😭 i don’t think he’d have much time in the 80s for television though.
3) does he have a hangover cure?
sit under hot running water, stay in bed, and don’t let anyone bother you for the day. honestly he’s one of those people where even an aspirin won’t do much to ease the unpleasantness so he just goes and disappears behind a closed door until dinner time when he emerges hungering.
4) what event in his childhood does he think about the most?
this is a hard one 😭 but this comes to mind a lot, and i think it would change through the years as he makes resolutions with certain inner turmoils? but i think he would run through past interactions with his father every now and then because he refers to his behaviour so much to see... what went wrong. also, before he meets his aunt again in the late 70s, he would run through the events of their separation lots; he has no hateful feelings towards aster bc lots of happy memories w her, it’s just like ‘what did i do to be distanced from her’ when really it was just his dad's manipulation and interception of their correspondence.

Hiccanna--100 OTP Questions, Part 2
So I said I would finish this OTP question meme someday--and I decided, entirely on random impulse, that “someday” is today!!! My Hiccanna-centered account has not been producing enough Hiccanna content lately, and this simply WILL not do.
QUESTION SOURCE: https://the-moon-dust-writings.tumblr.com/post/159857601812/100-otp-questions
LINK TO PART 1: https://hiccanna-tidbits.tumblr.com/post/635744326176129024/hiccanna-100-otp-questions-meme-part-1 51. Does either of them know how to fight? I mean...canonically yeah, they both do??? Lol I mean Hiccup has his fire sword and obviously would know how to fight with the weapons he makes/invents, and Anna literally just instinctively grabs a sword to protect her buddies in Frozen 2 and I mean we all really love Sword Anna anyways and also she PUNCHES A MAN OFF OF A BOAT so long story short yes they can both fight 52. What do they do for Valentines Day? Anna rents a rom-com and pulls Hiccup down onto their couch to watch it with her, and he kinda internally groans because he figures it’ll be something super sappy and cheesy and Anna will just be squealing with delight the whole time. Legit as soon as the first scene begins, Anna begins brutally roasting the main couple. Turns out it’s a really terrible rom-com and Anna rented it solely to make fun of it. Hiccup is like “aight this definitely wasn’t what I was expecting but I’m on board” Also Hiccup gets Anna like 3 boxes of fancy chocolate because...do I really need to explain? Anna gets Hiccup a particularly aesthetic floral arrangement for their kitchen table, something she knows damn well he secretly likes but would never admit XD 53. Who swears more? Anna, for sure. This tends to surprise people, but Anna is actually a notorious pottymouth when she gets comfortable XD Hiccup has a pretty big and borderline pretentious vocabulary, and so he tends to express his frustration in more...articulate ways when things don’t go his way. Like he’d stub his toe and just say “wow, I’d literally rather saw off my other leg than have to deal with this right now” while Anna, in the same situation, would let loose every curse word known to man XD 54. Who has the better comebacks? Hiccup, absolutely. His smart-ass comments to every conceivable situation on earth go absolutely unmatched. Anna can’t help but envy how he can almost instinctually pull out a near-perfect snide remark within seconds, whilst she, at best, thinks of the ideal comeback in the shower 3 days later. 55. Who would start a fight with another parent at a bake sale? I feel like Anna would seek out the most passive-aggressive, bitchy, entitled Karen and just wait with barely-concealed anticipation for her to say something super awful so Anna can just nail her in the face right in front of all the other moms Hiccup and their kids, meanwhile, can’t help but be awed at their wife/mother’s impressive Right Hook 56. Who reads buzzfeed? Anna. Hiccup keeps being like “you know half the stuff on there is total bullshit, right?” and Anna just shrugs like “who cares? It’s entertaining!” 57. Who is the hopeless romantic? Anna, good god, ANNA. After the whole Hans debacle I imagine she’s a bit more subdued about so openly showing this part of her personality, but at heart she just can’t stop being a romantic. Once Hiccup catches wind of this, he naturally makes a point of frequently surprising her with Grand Romantic Gestures and such, which makes Anna’s entire face go bright fuckin red as she cries out “NO STOP WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS YOU’RE TOO NICE” 58. Do either of them know how to do a handstand? Nope! They’d both fall on their faces and it would be hilarious. 59. Who can rap better? I love the idea of them both being looped into a rap battle somehow and Anna just dreading it immensely because she figures they both really suck and then when it’s their turn Hiccup comes out and busts out the BEST, MOST SAVAGE RHYMES Anna has ever heard COMPLETELY ad lib and the poor girl just goes completely catatonic with shock for like 10 minutes. 60. Do either of them want to go sky diving? See initially I was gonna say Hiccup definitely would not because it would give the poor boy an anxiety attack, but then I remembered he basically skydives in canon??? And Anna strikes me as a bit of adrenaline junkie too, so fuck it--yeah, I think they’d both enjoy it. 61. What do they usually text about? They talk a lot about movies, games, books, and shows they both like, I imagine--Hiccup especially likes to overanalyze them to ridiculous extents and Anna thinks this is adorable. The rest of the time, they send each other dumb memes and talk about random animal fun facts. Anna likes to brag that her boyfriend knows more lizard trivia than anyone else on the planet, and how many lizard facts does YOUR boyfriend know? Probably little to none, you big loser. 62. Who is the dramatic one? Anna is INCREDIBLY dramatic. Although Hiccup certainly does have a “dramatic flair,” as he puts it, I still think Anna can out-dramatic him, at the end of the day XD Although perhaps admittedly not by much. 63. Is either one confrontational? Anna certainly can be. She’s usually pretty friendly, but if she ever feels like she’s being challenged, demeaned, mocked, or generally not taken seriously, she’s ready to go to WAR. She certainly not as soft as she might look! I imagine there’s situations where someone is being a dick to either Anna or someone else and Hiccup has to physically hold her back to keep her from just decking them XD 64. What is their favourite cuddle position? Probably just good old-fashioned spooning. Hiccup actually really loves being the little spoon (because Anna just makes him feel so damn safe), but he is loathe to admit it. They also have one I like to call the “Needy Cat,” where Anna just goes and completely drapes herself over Hiccup when he’s sitting on the couch. He’s usually in the middle of doing something else, and is forced to find ways to play video games/read his book/watch his show around Anna XD 65. Who are their favourite musical artist(s)? Hiccup has exactly 3 music moods--pretentious classical stuff (to listen to while working on inventions), obscure underground 90s hipster bands no one’s heard of (to play air guitar to when no one else is home), and some more well-known emo/alt rock stuff (to sing along to in the car dramatically). I can see him liking Panic! at the Disco, The Killers, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, that kinda stuff. Anna, meanwhile, likes the trashiest, most generic-sounding pop music and refuses to apologize for dancing to it in the car XD She is most DEFINITELY a Swiftie, no question. She also likes some “edgier” bands like Paramore and Hey Monday. She went through a hardcore Avril Lavigne phase in middle school and she still totally listens to her but is embarrassed to say it. Also I feel like Anna would be into 90s/early 2000s boy bands??? She relates to the boys’ endless pining and just flips the genders in her head so the songs are about Hiccup (before they start dating obs) XD I AM DEFINITELY NOT SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE HERE, NO SIR 66. What are their parenting styles? Anna would probably be like...kind of stern, when she needs to be, but intensely nurturing as well, if her relationship with Elsa is anything to go by. Hiccup would be a pretty laid-back, chill dad who would probably try too hard to be cool and make no end of absolutely horrible dad jokes XD They both lowkey seem like the kind of parents who would end up letting their kids get away with a lot though lmao 67. Who would be the more laid back one? Hiccup probably. I mean, he IS the pacifist/diplomat guy, besides have you MET Anna??? Girl absolutely has NO chill. 68. Who listens to more vulgar music? Anna, surprisingly! Hiccup just kinda enjoys what he enjoys and doesn’t really feel the need to “prove” anything by listening to songs that swear a lot. Anna purposely listens to vulgar music to feed her hidden rebellious side and because it makes her feel badass XD She honestly kinda hates being written off as 100% wholesome and innocent all the time and will readily pull out the “I’M NOT A SWEET LITTLE FLOWER I SANG ALONG TO THAT SONG THAT JUST SAID FUCK SEE” line whenever given even the slightest chance XD 69. Do either of them have secrets even the other doesn’t know? Kind of depends on when in both their timelines they meet. If they meet in the middle of HTTYD 1 or Frozen 1, they probably wouldn’t tell the other right away that they have a dragon and an ice-powered supersister, respectively XD I definitely think they would as they came to trust each other, though. Also I read a headcanon that Hiccup has burn scars from the Red Death incident where he lost his leg, and that’s why he wears so much armor and generally long sleeves--and I kind of love that. So maybe Hiccup would be cagey with Anna about how he lost his leg and that whole incident for a while before he finally opens up to her about it. Other than that I feel like they’d be pretty honest with one another, other than maybe trying to hide the more embarrassing parts of themselves to impress the other person XD 70. Who is their go to couple for a double date? Jackunzel, obviously! They’d probably all go to an arcade or an amusement park or something else pretty fun and high-energy. 71. Do they tip the waiter/waitress on their date? I mean yes, they’re not huge assholes????? 72. How do they work out a fight? I imagine Anna tends to get more worked up and yelley and loud, while Hiccup doesn’t raise his voice much at all but can say some damn cutting things if he wants to. Since Anna probably gets angrier, I imagine she apologizes first, whether or not the fight was actually on her or not--it’s just kinda this girl’s default to apologize for everything XD She’d probably say sorry for yelling and probably overreacting, while Hiccup would also be EXTREMELY apologetic if he realized he crossed a line with one of his jabs at her. I imagine a lot of what they fight about is Anna doing some impulsive Dumb Shit^TM and Hiccup just being like “oh god DAMMIT that’s DANGEROUS you can’t just go WORRYING me like that!!!” and Anna getting offended because she kinda views this as him being a little overprotective and not trusting her to make her own decisions. Ironically, Anna occasionally also gets mad at HICCUP for doing Impulsive Dumb Shit, so he’s not always nearly as much the Voice of Reason as he thinks XD Hiccup also sometimes gets mad at Anna for not taking better care of herself (take it from a fellow ADHDer--we tend to Wallow in Despair sometimes, or straight-up forget to do basic care things like eat lunch XD)--I have an IRL friend who reminds me a lot of Hiccup and he’s ALWAYS getting on my case about not eating enough, not drinking enough water, constantly berating myself, stuff like that. I imagine Hiccup sometimes slips into Mom Mode with Anna when she gets in a bad spot, which she appreciates after the fact but kind of annoys her at the time because she wants really badly to be independent and all that. Basically TL;DR most of Anna and Hiccup’s fights can be resolved by Anna and Hiccup agreeing to next time Use A Brain Cell before they do a thing, or Anna agreeing to take better care of herself XD 73. Who brings home an illegal pet? In literally every AU possible I like to think that Hiccup brings home some variation of illegal pet XD I mean, it’s probably just a dragon (”just a dragon” is never a string of words I imagined myself using in that order like what do you mean JUST a dragon lmao) in a standard crossover timeline, which he basically does in canon, but I do love the idea of a modern AU Hiccup showing up to their apartment with some kind of weird exotic monitor lizard from Bali and being like “I found him in an alley, he’s gonna live with us now” and Anna is like “D: Is someone gonna arrest you???” And Hiccup is like “Nah, no cops followed me home” and Anna’s like “Okay!!! :D” and then goes to PetSmart to buy a big fluffy bed for her new scaled friend XD 74. What side of the bed do each of them sleep on? I honestly don’t think either would care much, and they usually sleep in a tangled-up mess anyways so by morning you can’t really tell who started on which side XD 75. What is their favorite photo of them two together? One from before they got together: I’m just imagining a big group photo with the Entire Squad (Rapunzel, Jack, Merida, Moana, etc.), and Anna has her arms laced around Hiccup’s neck and her chin on his shoulder and a GIANT smirk on her face. Meanwhile Hiccup is laughing and trying to push her off, but his cheeks are BRIGHT fucking red and he’s trying really unsuccessfully to hide it because he’s a pale boi. Anna loves it because you can so CLEARLY see Hiccup’s blush, and she loves to tease him about how flustered he got around her. Hiccup loves it because it reminds him of what was probably the first time Anna was THAT openly cuddly with him, and how exhilarated and giddy he felt the first time he had her that close to him. 76. Who takes longer in the bathroom? Probably Hiccup, if only because I HC him as a bit of a germophobe who is a tiny bit obsessive about washing his hands sufficiently. 77. Who has more songs on their ipod? Anna, mainly because literally every time she hears a song she likes she’s like “!!!!! Gotta download it!!!!” LITERALLY EVERY TIME. And she wonders why her ipod is always running out of space XD 78. What movie did they first see together? As of the Modern AU Hiccanna one-shot I wrote ages ago, Revenge of the Ancient Dragon Masters! XD If we’re talking movies that actually exist, I imagine it would be a Marvel movie, a Star Wars movie, or some super-fancy-CGI high fantasy epic. 79. What do they like to see each other in? You mean like...which of the other’s outfits would they find the sexiest??? Aight, I’ll take a stab at this. Anna gets literally SO fuckin thirsty every time Hiccup wears his dragon rider outfit (the one from HTTYD 2), like it shows off his cute skinny body in the most perfect possible way whilst making him look like a badass and oh how Anna DREAMS of feeling him up in that! (One day, she finally gets to! XD) She’s also very into the scale armor from HTTYD 3 when she’s in...a very different kind of mood XD As for Hiccup, his favorite outfits of Anna’s are probably her coronation dress and her queen dress, mainly because he loves how she looks in green. He also really likes her travel outfit from Frozen 2, mainly because it’s sexy AND practical and damn, he’s gotta admit, that’s a nice shade of purple and she absolutely SLAYS in it XD 80. Who makes jokes during inappropriate times? Honestly both of them??? Like neither are great at picking up social cues, and Anna canonically DOES do this in Frozen! (Remember her comment about ice-selling being “a rough business to be in right now”???) I can see both of them attempting to lighten a tense mood by making an ill-timed joke, hoping to make things less uncomfortable, and they end up making everything MORE uncomfortable XD Honestly sue me, I love the idea of these two idiots bonding over how terrible they are with social cues in general 81. At what age do they discuss the possibility of children? I imagine not til like...their early 30s, if ever. Like I mentioned in the first part of the questionaire, I actually am not sure if they would even want to have kids at all, but if they DID decide to, it definitely wouldn’t be until they’re older and have settled down a bit, and have (somewhat) gotten both of their lives together. 82. What do they love about each other the most? Hiccup loves Anna’s energy and optimism, and how she’ll basically cheer him on and believe in him with all her being no matter how high the odds are stacked against him. And oh boy does he LOVE how hard she can kick ass when push comes to shove, and how goddamn overprotective she is of him. The sword skills and the general willingness to punch problematic people in the face are definitely up there as well. She’s like the perfect blend of fun and badass, and there’s never a dull moment with her for him. Anna adores Hiccup’s connection with animals and general animal skills, especially with the more less-loved and “scary” of the world’s creatures (i.e. dragons lol). She also loves and admires the shit out of his intelligence and inventiveness, and wishes she could make contraptions half as cool as what he turns out. And, of course, she loves that he’s a pretty humble dude who's actually pretty insecure about his accomplishments, and isn’t some cocky guy wanting to shove them in everyone’s face. And, of course, she loves his sarcasm and his dry sense of humor, and few people can make her laugh as hard as Hiccup can. Before she met him, she had no idea pessimism could be this entertaining XD 83. Who is the one that sees the big picture, while the other focus’s on the small details? Hiccup is very detail-oriented--he has to be, in order to make any of his contraptions work! Anna is very much focused on the big picture and gets stressed and exasperated trying to keep track of details--she figures she’ll either sort through the details as she goes, or Hiccup will help do it for her XD 84. What would they write on their partner’s social media’s for their anniversary? One of my IRL friends wrote “Happy anniversary bro, you’re pretty great” on his girlfriend’s instagram for their anniversary, and she wrote back “Happy anniversary, you’re a good buddy, I love you” and I just XD That’s the EXACT kind of weird dorky nonsense I can see Hiccup and Anna doing for their anniversary tbh 85. Who is bad at math? Anna, bless her soul, needs a calculator for literally EVERYTHING. Hiccup kinda trained himself to be decent at doing math in his head, since he often has to calculate measurements for his inventions and whatnot, but Anna is absolutely atrocious at it and generally would like overly-complicated numbers to not be anywhere near her. 86. Who googles everything? Probably Anna, mainly because she’s pretty forgetful and doesn’t trust her own memory half the time so she feels the need to verify everything on the internet XD 87. Who does stuff on impulse? Anna 100% canonically does, although Hiccup has some shades of this too more than he would ever admit, in fact, for someone claiming to be the Voice of Reason 88. How do they comfort each other when they are helpless to do anything about the situation? Hiccup’s approach is probably just to try and distract Anna and take her mind off of it, which he’ll do by either trying to make her laugh, telling her a story, or explaining one of his inventions to her (which she never gets bored with btw, because everything that boy gushes about is fascinating to her <3). Basically he figures if he entertains her enough, it’ll take her mind off of whatever is freaking her out and she won’t fixate on it as much. Anna’s approach is more to accentuate the positives in a bad situation (although like I mentioned in Part 1, not really in a condescending “count your blessings, it could be worse!” kind of way, but more in a “I hope he’ll feel better if he focuses on happy things” kind of way, if that makes any sense?) and also focus on when Hiccup DID do great and utterly kick ass and tell him he’s always better than he thinks he is. 89. What is an inside joke they have? If anything, him calling her “Tiger” as a pet name (which I think I mentioned briefly in Part 1??? Can’t remember) is this, because in my mind it developed because whenever Anna is about to do some Dumb Shit, or punch someone she really shouldn’t in the face, Hiccup has to physically hold her back like “Whoa, slow down there, Tiger!” This happens so frequently that eventually it just gets shortened to him nicknaming her “Tiger” and all their friends are kind of baffled as to why XD 90. Who makes the other smile with almost no effort at all? Hiccup barely even needs to start talking in funny accents or imitating his dad before Anna is just DYING laughing. She thinks he’s the funniest damn person on earth. He honestly gets a kick out of her impressions too--she can do some pretty amusing ones, if that deleted coronation dress-up scene from Frozen 1 is anything to go by. So the feeling is mutual!!! They’re super good at making each other smile and laugh with little to no effort!!! 91. What is their favourite holiday? I feel like Anna especially would get REALLY into Christmas/Yule, mainly because of how much Elsa can spice it up with her powers. And judging by the OFA short, Arendelle gets very hyped for the holidays in general, so it’s probably hard NOT to have a good time. Anna probably also like Mayday a lot because the dancing, the spring cheeriness, and the flower-related festivities are definitely to her taste. Hiccup just likes the energy and general vibes, and would rather sit back and relax and watch Anna dance around and have fun XD Also dun best believe they BOTH get hella into Halloween, because they’re dramatic motherfuckers who loves to dress up, and it gives Anna an excuse to buy a shitton of chocolate and eat all the leftovers XD 92. Who is the one that is calm and collected while the other is angry and destructive? Lmao Anna is definitely the “berserker” of the two of them. She DOES tend to get destructive when she’s angry, if being ready to fight a giant-ass snowman and smacking a wolf in the face with a lute is anything to go by. Hiccup is definitely the calm and collected one, and very rarely gets genuinely angry. 93. What is their favourite board game to play? Does Dungeons and Dragons count??? I can totally imagine Hiccup being hyped up over that or some other super nerdy RPG game and being so enthused to show it to Anna, who just falls even more in love with him after seeing how EXCITED he gets about it. Of course he’s super eager to teach her, and TBH Anna has a really hard time getting it at first because DAMN these rules are COMPLICATED, but after she finally gets the hang of it, she realizes she absolutely LOVES DnD and RPG games in general (I mean...have you SEEN OFA??? Girl gets just a little TOO into reminiscing about her old play-pretend toys XD) and she and Hiccup constantly geek out about it together. 94. Who accidental sets something on fire? Anna, 100% also this is an ever funnier question if applied to Hiccanna in my Fire!Anna AU 95. Who has the car ready while the other is robbing the store? Anna is waiting while Hiccup robs the store, if for no other reason than that Hiccup is much better at Stealth Mode than Anna is XD Anna’s uncoordinated ass would probably knock over like 5 shelves’ worth of merchandise before reaching what they were actually trying to rob XD 96. What artist/group did they go to for their first concert? I M A G I N E  D R A G O N S lmao Look what can I say Anna likes the Imagine and Hiccup likes the Dragons 97. Who sleep talks? Hiccup. He mumbles about dragons a lot. Sometimes he jolts awake randomly and just yells out “THE DRAGONS ARE IN TROUBLE!” and Anna has to calm him down after she dutifully manages to not burst into laughter at this. Doubly funny if this takes place in a Modern AU. 98. Who is the more social one? Anna! Hiccup generally prefers to either keep to himself or hang out with animals. 99. What are their karaoke songs? For some reason I feel like anything by P!nk??? Idk why, but I can see them like rocking out and singing along to p!nk songs together and getting really into it. Also basically anything by The Killers and, at Anna’s request, The Chainsmokers (Hiccup thinks this is very basic music indeed but goes along with it for her sake XD). AND “Whatever It Takes” by Imagine Dragons. And they sing it LOUD. 100. Who would get up on stage and make a fool of themselves just to make the other laugh? Highkey both of them??? I kinda feel like Hiccup moreso though, if his little comedy routine imitating his dad in HTTYD2 is anything to go off of. He definitely wouldn’t be averse to making an idiot of himself to amuse Anna, especially since she’s so damn cute when she laughs. Anna, for her part, loves returning the favor, and is all about trying to do all sorts of Goofy Antics to amuse her boyfriend. And she’s overdramatic af, so she gets WAY too into it XD

CHECK UP TAG ❤️
Thanks for tagging me @hils79 !
how has your day been?
Pretty okay as far as days go. Honestly most days are pretty much the same for me: get up, eat, go to work, come home, shower, eat again, veg until bedtime, wash rinse repeat. But it was abnormally cool for late June, and the humidity was low, and that makes a huge difference for how miserable work is (I work on a farm, there’s no AC so the weather can be a make or break thing for my day). My horses were cooperative more or less, nobody was sick, nobody hurt themselves, nobody made a big mess of their stalls...so all things considered, a decent day.
what was the last thing that made you smile?
My cat begging for food.
what’s keeping you entertained these days?
DMBJ fandom, C-drama, and the Pool Noodle.
if you are in some kind of quarantine/self isolation, is there anything you’d like to achieve in this time? (or if not just something you want to achieve in general)
Things are starting to open back up here even though we’re not at 70% vaccination. I have mine, but I’m still trying not to go out too much...not that I ever really did before. I was self-isolating before it was cool. Mostly I just want to finish the fics I’ve started, and make gifs. Would I *like* to do something like learning Mandarin? Sure! Will I? Knowing me and my complete lack of self-motivation..probably not more than the assorted vocabulary list I’ve already assimilated from watching nothing but C-drama for the last year.
post a selfie! (if you’re comfortable with that):
I don’t take many selfies and I’m on my laptop right now not my phone, where the few selfes I have are. But here’s an older one? Older like...from this past winter? Ft. photobombing by Kit.
Tumblr media
Just to be clear, I’m the person. Kit likes to nose at my phone but she lacks thumbs with which to type full sentences.
I tag: Whoever wants to do this one and hasn’t done it already!

Cobra Kai: How the Show’s Martial Arts Level Up in Season 3
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article contains Cobra Kai season 3 spoilers.
Despite its iconic standing within the martial arts genre, the martial arts in The Karate Kid have never been outstanding. Sure, the crane kick is a classic, but from a technical standpoint, it’s not that impressive. Ralph Macchio had no martial arts training prior to undertaking the role of Daniel. In many ways, that’s part of the charm. Whether you know martial arts or not, Daniel’s wax on, wax off awkwardness makes Macchio’s portrayal more genuine.
Throughout the film franchise, it was Daniel’s adversaries who were the martial artists. William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence) had a background in wrestling prior to the first film and continued to train in Tang Soo Do under Master Pat E. Johnson after it wrapped (Johnson played the referee and trained the actors for the film.) Martin Kove (John Kreese) studied Gosoku-ryu Karate under the founder of that style, Grandmaster Takayuki Kubota. The villains in the sequels all had previous training too. Yuji Okumoto (Chozen Toguchi) began Chito-ryu Karate when he was thirteen and was a brown belt by the time he appeared in The Karate Kid Part II. In The Karate Kid Part III, Thomas Ian Griffith (Terry Silver) practiced Taekwondo since childhood and holds a black belt in Kenpo Karate. Stage combat is one of his specialties. And Sean Kanen (Mike Barnes), like Okumoto, studied Karate since he was thirteen, only his style was Shotokan. He also worked professionally as a bar bouncer.
Because Macchio was a much weaker martial artist than his adversaries both in the story and reality, it was challenging for the stunt choreographers. It limits the vocabulary of where the fights could go. Without a strong martial artist in the lead role, the fight choreographers had to create work arounds, like the crane kick. But again, that was part of the charm of Daniel. No one could play Daniel LaRusso like Ralph Macchio.
Cobra Kai faces a similar situation because like Macchio, few of the lead actors had previous martial arts training. For more authenticity, newcomers to the cast were not only tasked to learn Karate, they had to do some of their own stunts. With that in mind, Den of Geek spoke with Macchio and more about season 3’s ambitious combat, and the training and editing that goes into major fight scenes.
No Mercy
Cobra Kai suffers from the same constraint as the original films had with Daniel. All the high school kids are amateurs. We bear witness to their inductions into Karate, and their meteoric rise in skills (Just like The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai takes major liberties on how quickly someone can progress in the martial arts, but so do most stories in the genre). They’re teenagers, not ninjas or Shaolin monks. The fight scenes cannot pivot on extreme Jackie Chan moves. To remain genuine to the story, the next generation must retain some of Daniel’s awkwardness.
However, stunt coordinators Jahnel Curfman and Hiro Koda did excellent work in keeping it real. In the premiere episode, Johnny’s first fight showed that Zabka had kept up on his Tang Soo Do and could still throw a decent kick. It served the story perfectly, showing Johnny as slightly out of shape, but still formidable. As seasons 1 and 2 progressed, the fight choreography complemented its story arcs appropriately, but Cobra Kai wasn’t a show just to watch for its fight scenes.
This changed with the season 2 finale “No Mercy.” Curfman and Koda composed a thrilling high school brawl with a solid long take shot – a “one-er” where there are no cuts in the action. It was a thrilling fight, full of complex cinematography and enough close-ups that we could see that many of the actors did their own stunts.
The season 3 finale fight in the LaRusso residence was even better, longer, and more complex. According to Xolo Maridueña (Miguel), Cobra Kai’s second one-er was a challenge. “When you film an episode like the finale of season 2, you get to the point where you’re like, ‘How do we top this?’ It feels like we kind of achieved everything that we wanted. And I think at that point, we did achieve everything that we wanted. We got this really, really great scene that felt so grand. And in season 3, we want to give people that same kind of feeling, that same rush that you get from watching so many moving parts working together, but it needs to be different.”
How was it different? Maridueña elaborates. “I think that you see that the motives of a lot of these characters are different. The circumstances, the need to win I think is much higher in a finale. And I think up until the very end and even after the fight feels concluded you still feel that sense of weight on your shoulders.”
The Long Take One-Er
Cuts make fight choreography easier. When there’s one cut for every strike, retakes aren’t as difficult. If there are two strikes before a cut, it’s twice as hard. More strikes increase the challenge exponentially. In the original film, The Karate Kid, there was a one-er, but it wasn’t a fight scene. When Daniel first enters the All-Valley Karate Tournament from the locker room, it’s a continuous long take that clocks in just shy of a minute and a half. The blocking is complicated but it’s not as complex as a fight scene would be, and according to Macchio, the scene took 35 takes to get right.
In filmmaking, one-ers are always held in high regard for their technical achievement. Hitchcock’s Rope was a pioneering example with the entire film consisting of only 11 one-ers. The critically acclaimed World War I film 1917 was nearly a single one-er. When it comes to fight choreography, this is why classic Kung Fu films from the 70s and 80s are so highly respected by martial art movie connoisseurs. While they weren’t one-ers, those fights, like what was coming out of  Shaw Brothers Studio, went dozens of moves before a cut. Some recent films like Atomic Blonde and the John Wick trilogy have showcased one-er fights. What’s more, they are shot in such a way that we can see that Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron are doing a lot of their own stunts. In contrast, in Netflix’s latest assassin thriller Ava, all of Jessica Chastain’s fights are one strike, one shot, and her stuntperson takes over for all the heavy lifting.
There are some trade tricks to one-ers. The first is a stitch where the camera pans to a featureless surface. This can disguise a covert cut, making the scene appear seamless. But in actuality, there was a break. The other is what is known in the stunt industry as a “Texas switch.” This is where an actor is swapped out with a stunt person by somehow leaving the shot, like being tossed out of frame or ducking behind an obscuring set piece.
Television fight choreography has leveled up in the last few years. Daredevil was a game-changer for TV one-ers. The show kept upping its game every season. Season 1 episode 2 “Cut Man” ended with a one-er hallway fight that caught every martial arts fan’s attention. It had a lot of stitches and Texas switches. During that one-er, the camera repeatedly moves across featureless hallway walls hiding cuts and Daredevil is masked, allowing for multiple stuntmen to take over. Nevertheless, it’s still a thrilling fight and top-notch choreography. Season 2 episode 3 “New York’s Finest” featured another brutal one-er in a staircase fight. Again, Daredevil is masked so swapping stuntmen was easy. On top of that, Daredevil knocks out the lights, so a lot of the fight is in the dark, obscuring more stitches and switches. In Season 3 episode 4 ‘Blindsided’ Daredevil pulled off their most spectacular one-er of all and one of the best that has ever made it to the small screen so far, the prison fight. In that scene, Daredevil is not masked so Charlie Cox can be seen doing a lot of his own stunts. It clocks in at over 10 minutes. The fight choreographers on Daredevil, Chris Brewster, Philip Silvera, and Roberto Gutierrez raised the bar on TV fight choreography.
Karate And Stunt Training
The one-ers in Cobra Kai aren’t nearly as long, but they do showcase the actors doing many of their own stunts. And like Macchio, few of the cast have had previous training. Jacob Bertrand (Hawk) has a purple belt in Karate and Taylor Buchanan dabbled in Taekwondo, but that’s about the extent of the young cast’s experience. Beyond learning their lines and finding their characters, the actors had to take a crash course in martial arts.
“I only started learning in season 2,” says Peyton List (Tory), “and that was just in episode 4 of season 2, when I first came in. And I just take everything I can get, and I love learning it. So I’m trying to do everything I can even from home, but that one-er was one of the most fun. Jahnel, my stunt double, she was like, ‘You’re doing this all on your own.’ And that was a big moment for me, and I’m excited for everyone to see that.”
“My training is something I take super seriously,” adds Mary Mouser (Sam), “because I know that a lot of people who watch this show love martial arts and love the fighting aspect. As much as all the other fun things we have, we have a lot of really cool martial arts fans. So I want to make them proud. I am clearly still a novice in this world, but Samantha is not. So it’s fun to get to stretch myself, to see how much I can push myself to look like I’ve been doing Karate for all these years, when in total probably have about a year’s worth of training so far.”
Bertrand’s Karate background doesn’t make shooting a one-er any easier. “The next couple of days after those types of shoots, you’re definitely sore for at least two days. You’re running the same thing over and over again at 110%, but honestly, I’m just so excited for everyone to see that final fight, it’s going to be so great.”
Forever Young
In season 3, Daniel says he’s now as old as Miyagi was when they first met. Despite his baby face, Macchio is 59. He admits doing fight scenes no  isn’t as easy as back in the day. “The challenge is always as I get older or attempt to look younger, is the physical stuff. Staying in shape, not getting hurt. It requires work and attention and focus.”
Macchio is like David Carradine, who played Kwai Chang Caine in the television show Kung Fu. For their defining roles, they posed as martial arts masters, however they are actors first and foremost, not martial artists. At the very least, Macchio has maintained his integrity by never claiming to be an expert. Carradine milked his master role by writing martial arts books and selling instructional videos, despite his martial mediocrity. Today, Carradine’s martial products are generally disregarded, even mocked, by earnest practitioners. Most considered them to be a joke (the fact that Carradine’s Kung Fu uniforms looked more like Klingon athleisure suits didn’t help). Macchio could have easily cashed in doing the same but to his credit, he never did.
Will Cobra Kai attempt an even bigger one-er for Season 4? “As soon as the fight is over you’re ready to watch the next one,” teases Maridueña. “And I think that’s all you can ask for in a fight scene.”
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Cobra Kai season 3 is now available on Netflix.

80. No! Stay away from me! Stay back!
81. Maybe if you actually stop staring at her and talk to her, you might have a chance.
82. You have to promise you won't fall in love with me.
83. I know that face. That's your I'm-upset-with-you face.
84. I think we'd make this a fair fight if we each had a gun. Don't you think, boys?
85. He loves you, you know? He's just afraid of admitting it.

89. Why do you like me?
90. "You're annoying." "You love me."
91. Wanna go to hell together?
92. I lack the vocabulary to describe you.
93. You make me feel... you make me feel."
94. What the fuck...?

96. You're my regret.
97. You better not die on me!
98. Can you stop shouting at me?!
99. Why are you making this so damn hard?
100. But that's the problem, (name). I don't think I'm able to stop loving him/her. Ever.
! UPDATE !
101. There is no way you're going anywhere with him, not on my watch.
102. “You know you're in love with her right?” “Since when?” “Since always.”
103. Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t do this.
104. I love you, I do, but you're a real pain in the ass.
105. Is that my shirt?
106. Neither one of us is drunk enough for this conversation.
107. I think I might be falling in love with you.
108. What are you talking about? You’re married!
109. I saw that. You just checked me out.
110. Quick, pretend you're talking to me.
111. I just wanted to hear your voice.
112. That was, by far, the stupidest thing you’ve ever done.
113. No. The moment you saw me as a bet was the moment you fucked up.
114. "It could be worse." “You aren’t the one bleeding.” "Look, you're still alive. Stop whining."
115. Are you naked under that thing?
116. "Are you flirting with me?” “You finally noticed?”
117. What the hell were you thinking?!
18. You’ve been drinking tonight, haven’t you?
119. Well, if I told you, then it wouldn’t be a secret.
120. Is it weird that was a total turn on?
121. That was the worst joke I’ve ever heard.
122. If I kiss you right now, I won’t be able to stop.
123. What did you just say?

My 25 year adjacency to arts culture as a woman, and how it informs me being anti-anti
When I first started my art-making, in roughly about 1994, I was a young Gen Xr who liked zines, underground/edgy comics, magazines like Juxtapoz (which back then covered a lot of lowbrow and outsider stuff but now is pretty slick and commercial), and the stuff you saw at old school coffeehouses and used record stores. Later, Rocky Horror, Night Flight, and Spike & Mike’s Sick & Twisted Animation Festival entered my vocabulary. I taught myself enough art to start sketching out a horror comic about a suicide victim whose soul just jumps into another body, who has no memory of the life he had before. A kid who’d never fit anywhere - because my parents never fit anywhere - I found a home in liminal spaces. I was going to my entry level middle class job in the morning then spending my free time in grungy shops along the beach boardwalk that were run by ex-hippies.  A majority of my friends were guys - a mix of old school nerds/geeks and pot-smoking guys who hung around. (And a couple of oldschool hippies.) It’s my guy friendships that largely shaped my artistic vocabulary; they encouraged me with stuff like “oh yeah, add that eyeball, that’d be sick, dude.” Everything that made me anxious, I put on the page. Everything scary or odd in my environment, I put on the page. Then at 21, I started taking art classes. Where I found, universally, that creative content is very heavily policed by gender. And that creative content is very heavily gendered in and of itself. There is work that men are allowed to create, and work that women are allowed to create. I also discovered that people saw women visibly involved in youth or alternative culture *very* differently, and very much more negatively, from how they saw young men. And I discovered that men were the universal creative voice but women were expected just to create for female audiences. Men could create anything they wanted and not get policed about it (unless the thing was so overtly hateful that it didn’t even make the much lower bar of 1990s social acceptability), men could create “adults only” and dominantly created all the teenage material, men could portray disturbing or distressing subjects or “gritty real life.” Women on the other hand, couldn’t. Anything non-generic that we drew, resulted in intense analysis of whether or not we were “good” or “bad” women. And it was mainly women policing other women. Not nearly as many of the men actually gave a shit. I found that men were encouraged to be original and have a “voice” but women were expected to fall into line and draw the same content as hundreds of other women. I observed that art teachers - ESPECIALLY women art teachers and ESPECIALLY the “feminist” ones - gave different types of encouragement to male students than to female ones. I found that in order to not alienate women art teachers or women classmates, I had to do art the “right” way. It had to be one of the following: * Boats, kittens, flowers, or some other totally non-threatening, wholesome, cozy subject matter, completely safe for old church ladies and young children. (This is honestly why the “twee” and Manic Pixie Dream Girl/cupcake culture of the late 00s and early 10s, really set my teeth on edge. Just more of the same, in a new package.) * some kind of leftover 60s-70s style white liberal We Are The World crap.  * feminist art, which was a niche, was the only acceptable space to be “edgy” in, as long as one was edgy in the specific way that was prescribed. However if you did feminist art, you were never going to get a showing or make any money off of your work. But it was a “noble” kind of poverty. (That’s a thing about white feminist culture of the 90s, it was still heavily dominated by Boomer hippie mentality and heavily discouraged female ambition while accepting male ambition as an immutable fact of life that we were “better than.”) And the pressure was even heavier on marginalized women artists because you weren’t allowed to paint and profit from any part of your own marginalized experience. ALL of the social capital was on the part of affluent and or white people talking about groups that weren’t theirs. If you talked about someone else’s experience you were a Good Person but if it was your own experience then you were either a dangerous militant and probably a commie, or you were just seen as a big whiner. The pressure then was to get commercial graphics training and do production work for the creators who were permitted to create. Work that had nothing to do with you (which is what I ended up doing because it was the Prescribed Middle Class Path in art). And then once in commercial graphics, there was another two-track system: men got to do bigger projects and self-promotional work. Women were almost always socialized to stay small with everything. The attrition rate of women designers in my generation and older is EXTREMELY high, because you can’t build a competitive commercial portfolio on church bake sale ads. People blamed male-preferring employers but nobody would ever take responsibility for the ways women are socialized or trained much earlier in our career and schooling lives.  One of the big problems is that many of the traditional acceptable male topics, which get the most attention and visibility from passersby, are unacceptable from women creators. Men are encouraged to create huge wall-sized works but women to stay small and cozy.  Also, marginalization was only an acceptable topic as long as white male artists were portraying it. Otherwise you ran into the anger or talking-back-against taboo that pretty much everyone but white cis het men are subject to.  Then there was this. If you were a woman and didn’t paint cozy pastoralia then automatically your work was branded feminist by the mainstream. But that didn’t protect you from the most harmful parts of a lot of proto-TERF 80s/90s analysis. The Personal Is Political meant that everything you did was held up to the light for political analysis in ways that white male work never was. I’m careful to point out race here because I do feel like race came into it. A lot of the benefits given to men here are specific to affluent white men. When poor white men painted, it was called lowbrow art. When people painted who were neither of those groups, and it wasn’t one of the 3 or 4 allowed “safe” topics, then it was called “dangerous militant propaganda” at worst or just “crackpottery” at best. And the art of mentally ill people? Forget it. Once you have a mental health diagnosis, everything you do is seen as a facet of your mental illness. You aren’t a human being anymore. It doesn’t help that artists who come into art via the medicalized culture of mental illness, via art therapy, are seen forever as art therapy patients and not artists. Even though many artists who are mentally ill are subsistence artists, and many artists who are mentally ill have an art practice that predates their diagnosis, and many are subsistence artists who can’t hold other work.  tl;dr this is the background I come from with regard to why I’m never going to support anti-culture or cancel-culture. It is dominantly at this point a culture of policing based on extremely gendered social rules, a lot of it is based upon what women/marginalized people are specifically allowed to create and say about our own lives, and I am never going to be here for it.

Anonymous Fanmail // always accepting
Good evening (or day) to you anon! Let me say first off how touching it was to see this message pop up earlier on! I know my activity has been spotty as hell lately, with inspiration being flaky and my attention span even more so--so it really is encouraging to hear that the little I've managed to do in the past couple of months is still well received.
From reading your message it seems like you have a great handle on writing and vocabulary, but I also know that English really can be a bastard of a language whenever it deviates from the standard. So I can only commend your commitment to gaining even more understanding.
So to answer your question, under the cut are some of the authors/works that have influenced me most. I’ve not really had a chance to make my way through my huge reading list, or read much for a couple years now, so I’ll just mention some of the ones that really stuck in my mind:
Darren Shan
I really must start with Darren Shan, because for a teen author his descriptions of monsters and violence still are some of the most viscerally gross and visual I've ever read. So you can imagine what it was like reading him as a 9/10 year old! I don't get to show it very often on Jiraiya, but I really do love to write a bit of nasty gore where I can. This probably shows more when I'm writing certain toad stomach themed jutsu scenes... but yeah. This author really inspired me as a kid, and fantasy-horror for young adults is still a genre I'd love to write one day (if I ever come up with a solid original idea, that is)! Which leads me on to--
Stephen King
Who, honestly, I haven't really kept up to date with. The novels I read by him were his classics: Carrie, Misery, Pet Sematary... which I think were all written before I was born, now that I think about it. I know he can be a little long-winded for some, but I really appreciate how he builds up tension and works with multiple threads at a time. His are some of the few books that actually made me scared in my teens, his psychological horror is great, and he doesn’t shy away from a sex scene, even if they’re usually horrible. I always love an author who goes into nitty-gritty, not necessarily pleasant detail.
J.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R. Tolkien
A predictable one, I'm sure! But I've definitely drawn influence from the sheer world-building of Middle Earth, which has inspired worlds for my own OCs, but in regards to fandom has made me want to delve a little deeper into areas the canon leaves unexplained (it really is my goal to one day fill in all the blanks in Jiraiya's life, working with what little we were given and the messy timeline). And while Tolkien's characters can be a little wooden and overly functional at times, the true joy I find in his works is the sprawling descriptions of nature and the world, and how well-linked all of the characters/figures of the past are to each other. Also I feel it's an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely adore the songs/poems. Every one of them. Especially 'The Ent and the Entwife'.
Richard Adams
Most known for Watership Down, and his style again contains lots of beautiful nature imagery (with a very strong environmentalist lean). It's a pretty traumatic story, as anyone who has seen the animated film from the late 70's will recall, but what the book offers on top of that is a whole mythology that the animals believe in, world-building, animal characters that are both intelligent and believably still animals, gorgeous descriptions of the English countryside... yeah. It's one of my all time favourites! I’ve yet to bring myself to read The Plague Dogs, however, because I know it will upset me a whole lot.
Whoever the hell wrote 'The Soddit' and 'Bored of the Rings'
Yes, seriously. I'm a sucker for a good spoof, and these made me laugh out loud. I recall many terrible euphemisms. Not to be read with a critical mind whatsoever :’) they are kinda trash, but I really enjoy content that doesn’t take itself very seriously.
Terry Pratchett
Count this as a relatively new inspiration--I'm an absolute newbie when it comes to Pratchett, if I'm honest, which is ridiculous because it’s right up my alley. I’ve only fully read Good Omens (with Neil Gaiman), read halfway through a few of the standalone Discworlds, and watched several of the animated and BBC series adaptations, but I’m definitely inspired. It's just really daunting to know where to start with the main body of Discworld in particular. But I think after spending my childhood enjoying comedic fantasy in general (I also thank the Fable trilogy of games for that), it was only natural that I found his tongue-in-cheek, conversational to the point of being mundane, playing with tropes style a perfect fit for me. All of that, with some pretty immense world-building in too! It’s great to see such a loved world that is written in such a light, funny way (from what I’ve read), especially since I do my best to let humour inject itself into my writing wherever possible.
Oscar Wilde
And more specifically, The Picture of Dorian Gray. This is just peak gothic sexy decadence, I assure you. And it's one of my all time favourites... again, for gorgeous descriptions, but it's more sensory than physical. And of course, high-key gay subtext. And did I mention it's sexy? Not in the obvious way, just in a 'this level of indulgent description of luxuries and hedonism is downright slutty' kind of way. If you want obvious sexy though, definitely check out the film starring Ben Barnes too!
Anaïs Nin
Ok look, so in answer to one of your other questions, I do indeed read fanfic. Not as much now as I used to or would like to, but I certainly do. And Anaïs Nin is one of the few well known erotic writers I’ve read that I think is better than the best fanfiction stuff I’ve read. Because honestly, lots of them are dudes (sorry Jiraiya) and it’s just... nah. I’ve always thought that the erotic writing in decent fanfic tended to be high tier for somebody not paid to do it. Anyway, when it comes to Nin the writing is beautifully sensual, but I’ll warn you for questionable content at times--and I mean triggering content. I think that a lot of her erotic short stories were commissioned by others, so I don’t judge her, but there is also a lot of symbolism within the taboo so... that’s my warning about that.
John Keats
Time for a poet, and one of my favourites is this guy. Pretty much covering the Romantic/Gothic cusp, all the poems I remember reading by him were long, indulgent, sensual and low-key filthy. I can’t really say much other than read Keats! ‘Isabella, or the Pot of Basil is a favourite!
Seamus Heaney
My favourites are ‘Death Of a Naturalist’ and ‘Blackberry-Picking’. Get that gross, kinda visceral nature imagery. Nice.
Wilfred Owen
Mostly studied him in college, which I enjoyed a lot, but I ended up revisiting his war poetry when I started writing Jiraiya. Something about the way he questions patriotism and feels for the ‘enemy’ related a lot to him for me, and the poems themselves are so tragic they really spark up your empathy.
... As for songwriters? Hmm. Lyrically, I always enjoy pretty gloomy stuff. Nick Cave, The Cure, Placebo, Depeche Mode. A lot of it very spooky and sad-romantic. I definitely have a type :’) a definite favourite is also Björk, both for her surreal lyrics, and the crazy stuff she can do with her voice also helps!
I’m honestly struggling to think of more off the top of my head, because I know I have read and enjoyed more books/poetry than this. Sadly I’ve been too preoccupied with other things to branch out into more world literature, but it’s something I want to make an effort to do--especially Chinese and Japanese literature, some of which are on my current book pile. But these are some of the few that came straight to mind for me, and are probably my biggest influences. Hope you enjoyed my lengthy rambling nonetheless. And again, thank you so much for your kind message! It really lifted my spirits <3

I have been debating for quite a while when the topic is about Tumblr RP, and It always lead to a different answer / different sorts of decisions with each thought. I’m kind of tired of doing the “one day, I’ll reply” jokes or me constantly apologizing to my partners for the delayed replies -- While I am really sorry about the replies not getting through for a while, I am aware that they are occupied with other writers and will simply be honest with me, If doubts about the life of the threads come accross. They know I worry even though I don’t end up doing much about it, but they know how I can be at periods. At the beginning of the decade, I started of with RP because It was a newly found interest for me that I could spur my creativity on, which was to create characters and interact in their perspective. Gradually with time, I found myself frustrated and unsure what do with it. It took me multiple account changes, different types of writing / interactions with other people, different intections with ACTUAL writers -- and even now, I’m not really sure what to do about it. Like, I considered the thought of “ending it” completely and just relying on writing threads on discord with people I already have known for quite some time. But again, I kind of do like the current interactions I still get on my tumblr. Even the frustrating aspects of the RPC/Roleplaying spiel -- The uncertainty whether you seem interesting enough, whether you display your characters right, whether you write RIGHT -- are things I still like. The need and interest to research on things and deeply get into their perspective (talking about ocs/characters), provide projections of yourself onto them, yet still make them out to be characters that end up being so VASTLY different compared to how you present yourself/or act. You know? My recent opinion about the RPC was something similar to “It’s 70% about basic ass writers and 30% are the good ones” but honestly ... That’s a really stupid thought on It’s own. A lot of people think like that, too. We can shit on those blogs that have an unbearably difficult theme to read (that is also favorited commonly, because such writers usually put effort onto the appearence of their blog; and there IS a large amount of people who do prefer such aesthetic) or writers that notoriously writer porn like It’s oxgyen, or the writers that go dead set on being a character of a series that they’re so .... REALISTIC? (I’m serious, some people I have met where SO good at writing in the perspective of some character, It was AMAZINGLY BIZARRE) They’re all good and have specific intent / desires. Even If I end up being a notorious hypocrite since I change my mind a lot, but I think people should get over the idea of disliking them heavily and carry on. SURE ... That blog that does replies with 7 words has 1000 followers and It pisses you off, seems not to give much effort like your overused vocabulary of a reply that’s equivalent to a novella, then just. Mute them, block them -- whatever functionality you can do using xkit/tumblr itself. At the end of the day, I will probably find myself being pissy about such blogs myself, but I honestly need to remind myself that I am not being forced to interact / view types of blogs that aren’t in my line of interest. I had no real specific topic in this post since I am often bad at articulating my points and reaching a specific end to my words, but such post allowed me to put out ideas I had in mind and how I view things. In the end, I will probably find myself gradually doing replies and not really worrying about them as much anymore. Just do things like I liked to do, pick up some old things I liked to do before the times I stopped doing them.

10 lifechanging habits
10. Naps:  All of us are different, every type of body has its necessities. I, for example, am a very active person, therefore means that my body needs a bit of rest. It has been scientifically proven that  20-30 minute naps can help reduce stress, restore alertness, enhance performance and reduce accidents
9. Meal prep days: If you are like me who is always running around or comes home way to tired and hungry to cook and ends up eating chips and Oreos for lunch, then try meal prepping. This habit will not only save you tons of tie but will also prevent you from binge eating.
8. Snacks: I can’t stress enough the importance of snacks. Growing up, I used to skip breakfast because my stomach couldn’t handle anything, therefore my stomach got used to drinking soda and gummies before lunch. Again, everyone’s bodies function different but starving ourselves until the next big meal isn’t beneficial. Nuts and fruit are a go-to, especially on busy days.
7. Waking up earlier: Yes, I know, maybe you stayed up the night before working on school papers or watching Netflix. Waking up at least 30 minutes ahead of the alarm that you probably will postpone after the first ring will contribute to becoming more productive throughout the day. Becoming a morning person didn’t happen overnight but once you decide to get more stuff accomplished earlier, believe me, Will be worth it!
6. Stretching/yoga: I wake up around 6:30 during weekdays and after brushing y teeth, exfoliating my face and drinking a cup of hot lemon water I make time to stretch my sore muscles which get very tight during sleep. Not only does this help prevent injuries but also boosts energy for activities later in the day. The same happens at night right before bed. Except, before going to sleep I like to relax and take deep breaths. I encourage you to stretch even for 10 minutes every morning. It is something you have to be consistent on, in the end, flexibility and being more healthy comes with it
5. Reading: Did you know that billionaires tend to read 30 minutes every day? Reading helps improve vocabulary and improves brain function. I strongly believe that everyone is or can become a reader, the person hasn’t found the correct book yet. Think of it as something beneficial to your mental health rather than an assignment. Also, remember to not judge a book by its cover, sometimes, the best stories are hidden under monotonous tittles.
4. Journaling: Before bed, I like to write ideas or emotions down while drinking a hot cup of tea by my side. It is always so relaxing, my emotions are poured out and my mental health feels stable. Today could be a rough day but a month fro now, I can look back and learn something from that specific day. We are always changing and reading it and turning back and seeing all of our accomplishments is important. Along with that, every month planning beforehand makes chores more exciting, bullet journaling is for everyone, for creative people or someone who wants to be more organized. Give it a try!
  3. Stay hydrated: Our bodies are made up mostly of 70% of water so we might as well drink a lot of it. We lose a lot of electrolytes along with that 70% of water. More clear skin and even weight loss with a healthy meal plan are important for our bodies. Water with electrolytes is beneficial to our bodies after a workout, along with coconut water. Overall, sporty or not, make sure that your body stays hydrated all the time, and try to use a reusable water bottle instead of a plastic one!
2. Stay active: Maybe you want to gain muscle, get slimmer, improve strength or run faster, exercising at least 20 minutes a day is necessary. Make sure to warm up before a workout and stretch afterward to prevent injuries. It doesn’t have to lift weights maybe you like soccer, then go out for a run as often as possible or hold a plank for 1 minute every day. No pain no gain! Make sure to do it for you, because, at the end of the day, you’re the only one responsible for your body, no one else is.
1. Spiritual health: I come from a Christian family who has always encouraged me to love others as God loves us. I read the bible every night before bed and in my bullet journal, write what I am grateful for, even if it was a bad day. My relationship with God has become a lot stronger, yes, there are bad days. Being a Christian doesn’t mean life is a paradise and everything comes easy, honestly, it’s the contrary. Overall, being close to God and feeling his presence, letting him see through my heart and letting him decide what’s best for me even if I disagree makes me feel good. Nobody is perfect, and only he has the right to criticize us is something I recently accepted.
