forever obsessed w the fact that in bh lore vampires do actually die and stay dead for a short bit and then come back wrong. something that sadly never really gets elaborated on but that i find deeply fascinating bc it is implied that they remember the afterlife! which is such a cool and insane nugget of lore to give ur vampires like hello. also the implication that it scared the shit out of them, or at least out of mitchell..... can we talk about it!

#turning novel#터닝#kishiar la orr#yuder aile#when i tell you i read the manhwa in one go last night and then started reading the novel today bc commenters said it was good#and my god were they right#i'm 40+ chapters in so i've just passed where the manhwa is at rn and wow#first of all thank god there are high quality and easily accessible translations#second of all kuyu-nim has a way of making all the lines carry weight. the dialogue and body language cues especially#like i'm definitely not that far in but there are already a few lines i can point out that made my heart clench#and the tension between the two leads is so so palpable#kishiar is very enigmatic i'm very interested in finding out what he's really thinking and what his abilities are#and i really appreciate the way yuder's development is focused on him caring about others and relying on them#ok and third the fact that it's a slow burn romance but focuses heavily on the plot and politics and relationships is so good#based on the tags this could have been very tropey but they didn't go that route and i'm glad for it#in other news i'm upset about how yuder came out but i have to post him bc i will not separate them ;;;#thought kishiar would be harder to draw bc he's pretty:tm: and i struggle drawing pretty boys but yuder put me through the wringer fr#anyway!! i love them very much!! going a little insane over them as you can see!!

i do think a good shtola arc for the future would be like, her sort of calculated recklessness with her own life negatively affecting someone else and her having to reckon with that

the thing about romcoms is just- it's never meant to be 'is it believable?' but instead 'do you believe it?' do you believe these two characters are actually falling in love with each other??? do you believe their chemistry??? do you believe whatever obstacle is thrown in their way is legitimately something that might keep them apart for a time and not something that could be solved with one conversation?? do you believe that they believe they need to fake date for this very specific reason??? do you believe the reason why they're 'enemies' at the start, no matter how silly a misunderstanding it may be??? do you believe the grand romantic gesture fits the characters and is actually how one character would show their love to the other?? like!!!! it's about empathy and authenticity and feeling what the characters feel so strongly that even if it's a trope or a cliché it doesn't matter because you believe it
#this is what separates a good romcom from a bad romcom for me#if the conventions of the genre are used in a way that feels authentic to the characters then it'll never feel cheesy#one of my biggest pet peeves is some of the romcoms of the last decade who have this real 'we're not like other romcoms' energy#where they try to act like they're Different and move away from the usual tropes but it's shit bc that's not the point!!!!#those tropes and conventions are staples of the genre for a reason#it's how you utilise them and incorporate them that matters#like fuck me i hate action movies but i know if i go see one there's a 99% chance there'll be a car chase scene#bc that's usually a staple feature of an action movie and i mean idc but that's fine bc i know it has a function in the story to increase#the tension#and even at that someone who really loves action movies could probably tell me the difference between a good car chase scene & a subpar one#in the same way that just saying something is fake dating doesn't automatically make it good#but if i believe it and i'm in it with the characters? oh boy i'm about to feel so dELIGHTED for the next 90 minutes thank you so much#anyway i'm rewatching the lost city and every second of this movie is so silly in a fun way and fantastical but oH BOY DO I BELIEVE IT#mine

#telltale was CRAZY for this btw!! the drama of it all ALWAYS gets me#violet blaming herself for her gf/minnies death. clem helps her open up again. starts dating clem. finds out minnie is still alive?#saved violet telling clem she has nothing to worry about and she'll fight minnie if she has to to keep clem and her loved ones safe#kidnapped violet getting brain poisoned by minnie into turning against clem after feeling betrayed and abandoned by her#saved vi shooting minnie to save clem!!!!!!!!! but cant leave minnie behind because she already left her once and she cant do it again#vi begging minnie to stop trying to fucking kill them but shes too far gone. the 3 of them fight to the DEATH!!!#now add all that to the parallels and dark mirrors going on between clem and minnie in the A plot like the tension is off the charts#plus the parallels you can draw between clem and vi but those are less “you are my dark mirror” and more “we are the same i understand you”#HOW are the girlies not still talking about this#you know what i partially blame myself i dont talk about it enough either. i forget how many things ive left in my wips folder sometimes#UGH its all so good violets route just ads so much Flavor to the clem/minnie plotline its Delicious i couldnt imagine it Not being there#i neeeeeeeed to draw them fighting and being gay and maybe bloody even#if u cant tell i really want to get back to that wip i posted a few weeks ago but im Trying to Restrain Myself#i love forcing myself to take things slow sometimes really makes the brain shift into overdrive#twdg#violentine#it speaks

#okay i’m realizing this maaaaaaay not happen in burn bright and there might be more waiting assuming he’ll have multiple books#mine#cobalt empire series#but this post is also making me realize how much beef ben has to resolve with various family members omg???#i think it’s realistic to expect that ben and winona’s friendship will be restored in ben’s books#because that feels like a distance that’s HIS fault. like she never wanted to drift from him but his own issues led to their separation#and therefore we need his pov for the resolution#but tbh ben and xander is a mixed bag. we still don’t totally get why there is so much tension between them so it could go either way#but god i hope we don’t have to wait that fucking long#like if it isn’t in ben’s books then they better have some plan for the rest of the kid’s books to start releasing alongside the cobalt empi#and then charlie and ben there is definitely a LOT of animosity on both sides but imo this is mostly charlie’s problem#he is a big bully to ben and ben’s treatment towards charlie is simply reactionary#this isn’t necessarily set in stone though bc idk if ben and charlie could realistically live together with this much turmoil between them#like it makes sense to me that we need to see charlie’s perspective of this and he will need to be the one to take the reins#in order for there to be a resolution. but will they really wait this long? unless maybe charlie’s books are right after and it gets split#anyway. slowly, slowly, slowly learning how to bridge the gap in my teaching between overexplaining and underexplaining so I hit that exact sweet spot of getting the kids to the place where they’re interacting with a text that is absolutely over their heads and out of their leagues but their excitement, generated by me but sustained by them, and the right amount of scaffolding and explanation lifts them up to be able to meet it, enjoy it, learn from it, be affected by it.
#teaching tag#it is MAGIC when that happens#anyway i've been showing them macbeth this year instead of reading it because we don't have time to read it#and i've been severely in my head about the uselessness of it#and how it's not doing anything#but i had a good talk with another teacher about it and she was like 'no no! keep going!'#and then today we watched the malcolm and macduff scene and i could feel the room listening to the language#not quite understanding it but reaching out towards it#and it was SO. GOOD.#it helps that the guy who plays malcolm is young and cute#tbh i would never underestimate the importance of that#me choosing my shakespeare adaptations carefully so they get to look at someone young and beautiful enough for a period of time#anyway teaching has been just the absolute doldrums for a couple months now and this feels like a nice break and streak of light#like i just can't ever rule out the possibility that their hearts can be caught by something that we're reading#despite my common sense telling me not to put too much stock into their emotional reactions#because doing so would lead to my burnout and bitterness#because you can't force anyone to fall in love#but you can set the stage and clear the rubbish and lay the fire for lighting#and just wait for a spark to catch#anyway this tension between the orderliness and peace and box checking that i WANT to be a part of my room .....#and the moment of a student just suddenly being illuminated. inspired. in love !!!!!!!#i love it. i love it a lot!

Do you see me as somehow less capable?’#(when the answer could very well be ‘no it’s because even Marc straight up died and I don’t want to be unable to prevent#the loss of another friend’)#both are grieving though so I appreciate the subtlety of how neither of them are in the absolute best place and are just trying their best

I wonder what btsv is going to do with the conflict between what the law demands of Jeff vs his love for his son because like. You get the vibe there isn’t Quite as much stringent anti spiderman sentiment from law enforcement in 1610 but also. It’s such a powerful sentiment to have your child essentially force you to reevaluate all that you thought it meant to be good.

Is there a genre you like to stick to or do you like writing for different genres, or maybe you like mixing them? :]

I tend to like writing in a fantasy setting in some way, and most of my projects could probably be put in that genre!
Recently though, I've been really interested in more high tech scenarios, and my two most developed projects are a sci fi galaxy with multiple factions and species, and a world set in an industrial revolution with inspirations from napoleonic times to the wild west to the American 1920s, with a good amount of fantasy elements sprinkled in 🥰

#the industrial world has... a lot of my brainpower going into it#i cannot tell you how much time i have spent just looking at the maps amd trying to see how they affect the modern world#i have had dreams about it#the sci fi setting is also incredible but it's so much harder to work on because of how the setting exists#and also i love aliens too much and i just want all aliens and humans to coexist and love eachother#but for a story i cant do that!! its boring for a story setting and it's breaking my xenophilic heart#like i have about 5 major factions all in an alliance and im working towards some tensions between them and also another#much larger faction that gets into conflict with the other 5#well they've already been in conflict#if you've read all these tags I'll give you a little secret#they killed earth.
