alia is bi and has a ( hand wiggles ) relationship with gender; some of it's just the inherent trauma of how elven women are treated causing her to want to reject some of it, some of its a true - ish form of gender dysphoria ( one of the few bad parts about having enough to eat now is that she fills out properly and starts having tits ) and most of it's a combo of the two. she identifies as a woman and that's unlikely to change, if only because she lacks other language, but internally she prefers androgynous terms of address, something zevran picks up early.

johana is a cis lesbian! her family and much of court doesn't approve!

natia is a cis woman and bi but like. she feels a similar 'being a woman in the commonly understood sense has created in me a lot of a trauma' thing to what alia does, but natia leans harder into BEING a woman because of it, as a way to spite the ones that sought to make her womanhood bad. she's not particularly feminine, it's not like that; it's more like she doesn't feel any innate sense of her own womanhood but she CHOOSES IT very intentionally. it's not a gender identity it is a gender CHOICE.

I know there's def already a post like this but I think the reason people arbitrarily disliking modern art styles because "anyone can make it" bothers me so much is that it implicitly relies on the idea that the value of a piece of art is dependent on the effort you put in, which is. So fucking damaging to any discussion of art

When you equate the value of a work to the amount of labor involved in its creation, it is no longer Art, it is a Product. By putting the emphasis on labor, you are no longer looking at it through the lens of meaning and artistic value, but that of economic and utilitarian politics.

This is also one of the main methods facists historically used to devalue the things they called 'degenerate art'. They would take anything that wasn't a perfect exercise in realism or technical beauty, anything in a style that could be considered not traditionally appealing- mostly styles native to non-white cultures, but also things like surrealism and other cutting edge movements of the time- and go 'look at this! Look at how simple and unskilled it is! This is why we, with our Correct way of doing art, are Superior!'

And I know that bringing that up will put a lot of people on the defensive. Because I know a lot of people who dont engage in art history or discussion think that they're being Morally Correct in their take that modern art is bad, because for some reason a lot of people are very firm in the belief that all modern art is 'rich people nonsense'

But heres the thing. It Really Isnt

Yes, some modern art is commissioned or made by rich people, some is pretentious and made for the wrong reasons and traded around by shitty people who want to look cultured. But Ill tell you a secret- that happens with Any style of art. And just because some people do it for the wrong reasons, that doesn't mean that anything made in that style can NEVER have value.

And for those of you who just think it's too simple to be 'art'- listen, I get it! I actually really don't like a lot of modern art. It doesnt make me feel anything and I have trouble understanding it.

But just because it doesn't affect me, doesn't mean it can't make someone else feel something.

Art is more than the time, or effort, or material you put into it. If artwork's value could be defined by the hours spent and paint used, it'd be the same as anything made on an assembly line. A piece of art's value comes from what you get out of it- emotionally, spiritually, or intellectually. If you look at a piece and think it sucks, guess what? You just got something out of it. It made you feel something. "I hate this" is still a feeling! And if you actually go into it with good faith and try to Engage it, you can get even more- ask yourself Why you hate it, what about it upsets or bores you, what it might mean or what you would change or try to say instead. That's the point of making art- not some concrete immediate satisfaction or hard numerical value. Sometimes art being simple, visibly unpleasant, or seemingly pointless is the Point- they want to say something, they want you to see it and think it sucks and then use that to say something about the world.

The point of art is to make you Think, to say things. It's to engage the viewer, and if you engage with art with that mindset, if you're open to having that dialogue, I promise that no matter how 'bad' a piece is, it will always have SOME value. You don't have to like it, or agree with it, but by trying to place limits on what art is allowed to look like, or make sweeping statements about what has value or what doesn't, you are not being nearly as revolutionary as you think. Art is about complete and total freedom of expression. No matter what morals you think you're preaching, by trying to put anything in a box or place objectivity into the sphere of art, you are directly harming that discussion and parroting arguments that have always been used to stifle creativity and put down others. It doesn't help anyone.

I gotta say, like. I haven't seen the ep 9 and 10 leaks, nor do I want to (I watched pine barrens early and I wish I hadn't) but I swear, at this point I'm convinced everyone's overreacting for no reason; like there is NOTHING that the show could possibly do that would disappoint me on such a level that ppl are saying they don't want to continue watching the show. Unless they kill off the entire cast, pull an X-files and replace everyone, I just can't see it being as dire as people are making it out to be. Like... let's all calm down. You're getting (at best) a choppy machine translation, and at worst what is essentially a silent episode with 0 actual context for what you're seeing. From my experience watching pine barrens in Russian, I can tell y'all that things were interpreted incorrectly (both in summaries AND by me while I was watching) and watching the actual english episode was an entirely different experience.

Maybe it's just because I haven't gotten my hopes up about nandermo getting together this season there have been PLENTY of clear signs that it's not happening but I legit can't even imagine a worst case scenario that could prevent me from enjoying the show at this point. It feels like so many fans have gotten swept up in fandom hype (which is totally fine and completely understandable, I'm not immune to this either) but it's almost like... there's a terrifyingly big divide between fanon and canon this season. It's just a silly dumb little show. If you wanted it to go one way and it didn't, bummer, I guess, but to write off an entire show because the conclusions you've drawn up with friends weren't the way it panned out is so odd to me. It's understandable when theories like there being something in the walls that colin is trying to get to or whatever spread, but at the same time it could just be a running joke about him being a little shit of a kid. If this isn't addressed, I wouldn't be surprised. I don't think it's really ever been pushed like that, it's just that it gained traction in the fandom and a lot of fans started clinging to it (as well as some other common theories like it) but is it REALLY being teased? Or was it not meant to be anything more than a surface level joke.

I don't think it's right to be disappointed when stuff like this has been hyped up by the fandom rather than like... official marketing material or something, and I think that can be applied to every prediction that seemingly didn't come true.

I just see a lot of hostility and accusations thrown around, and some truly bizarre takes, and it's just... it's a show. it's a show, guys. it's just a show.

I’m fairly sure at this point that Naruto is more or less fascist propaganda. There are so many things that we as a fandom want to turn a blind eye to yet when SNK was called out for being fascist, we had no problem boycotting it because it wasnt an anime that we’d come to love throughout our childhood. Unfortunately Naruto was a lot more subtle and pulled a fast one on us towards the end - 14/15 years after its initial release. 

Theres a lot of intricate reasons as to why I’d call it fascist but I’ll list the general points to be made that everyone can easily recognize. 

• Genocide for the good of the nation. This one is pretty obvious but I thought I’d get it out of the way. Slaughtering possible defectors of the state is apparently an honourable and justified choice. Even if some members of the oppressed minority were completely unaware of their leaders planned coup or had no desire to revolt against the system, each and every single one of them apparently deserved death. 

• Brainwashing children into military violence goes completely unquestioned by the narrative. The only people who challenge this idea are portrayed as “hateful.” The best example of this is how the narrative feels the need to emphasize that Itachi murdering his clan was his own decision. I just find it awfully strange that we’re expected to believe that a 13 year old, who was sent to fight in a bloody war for his country when he was just a toddler and was shown to suffer from severe PTSD, apparently wasnt brainwashed with threats of war on his impressionable child brain when he was already completely numb to the concept of killing people. Itachis history details the story of a brainwashed child soldier yet goes to great efforts to brush it aside and give Itachi the autonomy that he never actually had. On a meta level it’s pretty messed up that Itachis actions as a result of his brainwashing, was praised by Hashirama Senju - the ultimate force of “peace” who founded the village and “the will of fire” that were so expected to admire. 

• Consistent denial of blatant military violence. In the manga, the truth about the Uchiha massacre is covered up by Naruto, Sasuke and eventually Sakura to “maintain honour of the Uchiha.” This makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever. How is it more honourable to say that a clan was slaughtered by a rogue criminal of their own (further perpetuating the selfish, bloodthirsty and power-hungry stereotype) when the truth is that an oppressed group of people were slaughtered off by the government? How can an act of genocide be prevented by a future government when the truth is actively censored by the governemnt? Neither Naruto nor Sasuke did anything to implement some sort of bill of human rights, laws or Geneva conventions in honour of Uchiha to prevent more innocent bloodshed at the hands of the state.

• Ultranationalism at every opportunity. The village is literally gated off. No one enters or leaves without permission from authority. The unification of the village under the statist military + the slaughter of any and all potential defectors is pretty telling. Its scary that “the will of fire” and protecting the state is the only honourable and good goal/ideology to have in this series as shown by Sasuke only ever being seen as “not evil” when he is beaten down into conforming to the government.

• Evil is in the genetics of the oppressed. This was pretty unsettling to witness and I’m surprised there havent been more people speaking out about it. Ideologies are inherited not just by fate, but by your genetics. The Senju-Uzumaki obviously have “The will of fire” which is known to be the supreme ideology. It consists of uniting and enduring the hardships of the world under the totalitarian government but NEVER pursuing revolution or change for the better. “The curse of hatred” is its counterpart which has its origins exclusively to the Uchiha. Its explained to be Uchiha culture to some degree. The narrative very desperately tries to paint the pursuit of revolution to prevent more violence as evil, bloodthirsty and selfish. This, in reality, makes no sense. Why are the Uchiha hateful for trying to fix a situation for the better of their family yet somehow the senju arent characterized by hatred despite openly hating the Uchiha? Simply put, the Uchiha are GENETICALLY undesirable and their push for equal rights are characterized as hateful, selfish and lonely. In reality, Madara Uchiha would not become a rogue ninja who decides to attack the entire village including his own family with Kurama because he could not get equal rights for the Uchiha. This doesnt add up with why he was so angry in the first place. Non of the “bloodthirsty” actions of any Uchiha do. They’re a fictional race of people that are only evil by the design of the author to portray oppressed people as selfish and aggressive. Towards the end of the fourth war, the story of Ashura and Indra is told to Naruto and Sasuke. Indra is apparently the original Uchiha who was influenced by some deranged evil spirit to pursue power over unification for completely selfish purposes. This is very unfairly equated to Sasuke and the rest of the Uchiha clan to explain to audience that the Uchiha are inherently evil and selfish detractors. 

• To be a revolutionary is to be lonely. This ties into my last point. Sasuke is constantly referred to as lonely by just about everyone in the cast, Naruto especially. This has always been bothersome because Sasuke wouldnt have been lonely if his entire clan wasnt slaughtered by the very same people that Naruto stands by. This point is incredibly simple yet its overlooked because the anti-uchiha propaganda is so successful in what it sets out to do. To add onto this point, what if Naruto had simply said to Sasuke “I believe you have every right to bring the murderer of your clan to justice and I’ll stand by your right to justice every step of the way” instead of physically fighting him and screaming at him all the time? Sasuke isnt inherently lonely exclusively by his own means, he is alienated by everyone around him. The narrative acknowledges Sasukes emotional unfulfillment, IGNORES the real reason why hes lonely and then states that the only way that Sasuke will find a sense of family through the acceptance of his peers is if he conforms to the government and adopts the hegemonic ideology…. after “repenting” for ever daring to get justice for his clan in the first place. This eerie emotional blackmail is completely normalized and unquestioned by the narrative. It sends a harrowing message to the audience that it’s more desirable and fulfilling to conform to the government despite their poor treatment of your people and should you question otherwise, you must repent for forgiveness. 

• The leader of the village is the most powerful member of the military, who is chosen exclusively through nepotism by a rich man who owns the land instead of the people, and is in power for an indeterminate length of  time. Again with the military obsession! Not even necessarily the best military commander or anyone with experience in any leadership position at all. This is partly fascist due to the fact that theres no limitations on what a Kage can do to their village, they’re selected through nepotism and not democracy and they’re in power for as long as they please no matter how the public feel. The leader is not necessarily someone who is shown to be compassionate, responsible, trustworthy, intelligent or reliable. In fact, you could be a known, unpersecuted war criminal like Danzo and still get the position. 

• To add on to that, war criminals in the Government or Military go completely unpersecuted and often unpunished - as shown by Danzo and the village elders. The village elders are still in the same position during the events of Boruto as they were in over 20 years ago when they conspired to execute the Uchiha massacre. Naruto and Sasuke know of their involvement yet havent held them accountable in any way. 

• Child soldiers are sent to die for the government. It seems that only Obito notices this when Rin dies. The second he becomes critical of the fact of this reality is the second he becomes “hateful” and “evil." 

Theres plenty more but I’ve already spent an hour typing this up and checking over every little detail. Generally speaking, much like SNK, the theme of Naruto is to just simply ENDURE hardship, stay loyal to your government at all costs even if they cause the hardship and NEVER revolt. Naruto as a character serves as the purpose of being as reductive as possible to every single character that faces hardship with "I too was lonely and oppressed but I coped by worshipping the government for a sense of emotional validation and you can too!"

She's referring to a little accident that occurred late last night when Tom had drunkenly snuck in to the girls room to visit his girlfriend Maddie and when things started to get a little... heated, he had burst into flames, setting off the fire alarms, slightly burning Maddie and waking up everyone in the room with the sprinklers.

He was working on it.

Lyla groans. "You know how the people 'looking after us' are about to kill us? Well, my head is pounding and honestly if someone shot me I'd probably thank them."

He laughs but her words make him nervous. A glance over at the large window confirms his suspicions that they're still watching them. He's not surprised, they're always watching them. Keeping up the facade that this is still a behavioural study. Today, they're lucky enough that Charles Vega himself has came to see them for himself.

Six months ago, they were all picked out to participate in a revolutionary study. All teenagers with no ties to the outside world. In a world where the Hunger Games exist, they weren't that rare. This group were just the unlucky ones.

Within a month, they had all changed. This change was sometimes physical, sometimes mental, sometimes lethal. After that it became obvious that the people feeding them and clothing them didnt care about their safety and that once their tests had finished, the survivors would have to be silenced.

It's only a matter of time now.

"What's up lovebirds?" Tash laughs as she sits down beside her brother. She tucks her strawberry blonde hair behind her ears and places her hand on her stomach.

Tom tries not to think about it. His approach towards his 16 year old sister being pregnant with some 17 year old player's baby has to ignore it so he doesnt turn the bastard into a pile of ash.

Instead he focuses on her being a brat and trying to stir up gossip like usual. "Tash, how many times. I'm with Maddie and Lyla is with Danny. Stop trying to set us up."

Truthfully, he'd rather she tried a little harder. He doesnt know what it is, most people find Lyla hostile and abrasive, she's not his usual type physically and they work well as friends but one night, when the looming threat of death made them forget about everyone else, a friendly comforting conversation developed into something much more and ever since it's been playing on his mind.

He wonders if she ever thinks about it too.

As if reading Tom's mind, Danny comes over and sits down, wrapping an arm around Lyla and pulling her in tight. He tucks his large wings behind his back but he cant be comfortable sitting like that.

Tom's stomach turns and he hopes it's just his hangover. Danny's too nice to hate and Maddie's too good to betray again.

The squeak of a door makes him wince and he turns to see Mr Vega himself marching into the room with Rishi close behind him.

"Charlie! Theres better ways to do this!" She cries.

"I'm the only one in this company with the guts to do what has to be done," he growls and reaches behind his back for something tucked beneath his blazer.

I know what's coming but theres nothing I can do to stop it.

The first gunshot hits a girl coming out of the sleeping quarters straight in the chest. Screams pierce the air as people dive for cover, bullets flying through the air.

Rishi covers her mouth and runs for the door crying, slamming it behind her and locking it with a click.

Tom grabs Tash and yanks her to her feet, desperate to get her to cover but it's too late. He watches as the first bullet hits the side of her abdomen and the second her neck. Shes dead before she hits the floor.

Lyla screams behind him as Danny goes down, his wings knocking her to the floor and trapping her beneath his body.

Maddie.

Tom searches for her blonde curls and finds them soaked in red beneath the dining room table.

He has to get out.

They're all dead.

It finally happened.

The door.

He can still escape.

His ears ring from the gunshots as he sprints for the door, Mr Vega still picking off runners as they try to escape into the sleeping quarters.

He rattles the door handle but it wont budge. Rishi is still on the other side, he can see her through the glass. Shes crumpled on the floor sobbing into her hands. She covers her ears as he punches the door, flames covering his skin in a desperate attempt to burn through the wood. It does nothing but leave black scorch marks on the white wood.

Sharp pain rips through his leg and he spins as something hot runs down to his foot. Charles is staring right at him and reloading his gun. He doesnt say a word as he fires again, this one hitting Tom straight in the chest.

He hears the crack as the bullet hits the wood behind him and the flames on his skin start to die.

He slides onto the floor and cant do anything but watch as Charles rolls Danny's body off a still struggling Lyla. She screams in protest as he grabs her hair and pulls her to her feet, ignoring her curses and threats.

He puts the gun to her head and fires.

They're all dead.

It's over.

Tom's eyes flutter open and he's almost blinded by the bright lighting. Hes lying in something wet and sticky and everything hurts.

Something is being dragged across the floor but he cant move to see what it is.

Fuck, he really shouldn't have drank so much. That was a hell of a nightmare.

Laboriously, he rolls onto his side and gasps as pain shoots from his chest. White turns to red as the memories come rushing back.

It wasnt a dream. Everyones dead. He should be dead.

"Shit. Ones still alive."

"What do we do?"

"You can tell Vega he fucked up."

"Not a chance. I'm not telling someone who murders a room full of teenagers that he didnt do it right. That's just asking for a bullet in the head."

Tom looks up as three Peacekeepers slowly walk towards him.

"He doesnt look so good. Maybe we just leave him to bleed out? No one even needs to know."

One of them crouches down. "Hmm. It looks like the bleeding's stopped. He might have a chance."

"Okay, so this is just a thought but what if we let him go? Maybe a good deed will make covering up this massacre feel better."

Theres a beat of silence then the crouched one turns. "If anyone finds out, you did this all on your own." The other Peacekeeper doesnt answer so they turn back to me. "Right then, kid. You think you can walk?"

SO! Im gunna do a little thinking about my little meow meows all fucked up by religion. Just a comparison for my sanity and interests. Pyroc is my baby i wrote him for the first time years ago. Five?????????? Whadda hell. Going on six.

ANYWAY john joined religion because of his trauma. His sister died and he felt lost. He was unmoored in this fishing village and looking for reason looking for hope. Hed had his heart broken and trying to make sense of tragedy on his own was totally beyond him. Thats why his interactions with riley in AA are SO good like. He knows that confusion and he knows the rhetoric that’s supposed to combat it. Only it dooesnt work for riley.

The same sort of thing happens for pyrc, only inverted. Loss urns him away from god and religion because its SO strong in his family and not only is he loosing trust in god, but his kin as well. He’s suspicious there’s mre they arent telling him, at the point of his fathers death. And he agrees to, on the surface, absolutely wholly throw himself in to being the second the family and the village need. But he’s keeping his treachery under wraps.

That’s one of the coolest things about father paul imo is like. That slow unraveling of what is. Frankly. An awful half assed plan, driven by fear and loneliness and desperation and dementia and love. Even VERY obvious things like. Taking down the newspaper photo of his young self ‘slip’ by him. I think, on some level, its DEEPLY intentional. He wants people to CHOOSE this. He wants people like bev. He wants people who see him and are in aw of him beating god. Of killing death. He wants to be worshiped and adored and for people to come to him willingly, no tragedy driving them to his arms.

Pyroc also wnats to be worshipped, but he ALSO wants to do the worshipping. He really longs for an element of almost????? But not quite??? Subjection?? He wants to be shown something and for a Great Voice to tell him, unquestioningly and unerringly that it is GOOD. Full stop. And then he wants to spend his life worshipping it. But this booko is an exploration of how….. no such thing exists. And more importantly no great voice exists either. There is nothing wholly good, nothing wholy evil. His lack of faith in himself once he becomes god is him starting to understand that as well. Thats on purpose baked into the lore. The starting point was ‘what if god was a position and in order to get promoted you had to be a murderer. No matter what’. He understands things are not wholly good, at that point. I onder how long it will be for him to realize they are not fully evil as well?

Bc pruitt does hm hm hm an interesting move. Where he takes something the narritve is very sure to communicate is EVIL no wiggle room just fact. Even if its driven by animal instinct its. Evil. And he makes it, not just good, but HOLY. And god i LOVEEEE that for him i ADOREEE that what a MOVE. Seeing the privilege he has and being like. Wait. This isnt Right. We have to change thi. And when no one agrees ti shifts to I have to change this. With Violence. Something that I really love about 3H, and which is probably hard to do with an art form other than video games, is how it shows us all these characters in a context of multiple perspectives and possibilities. 

Part 1 is mostly the same but we see what each of the house leaders was individually doing, thinking and feeling during it. 

Then in part 2, some characters can theoretically end up in all four factions, and we get various different outcomes for how the house leaders might have ended up, how they would have acted under different circumstances etc. 

Some have called that wishy-washy and undefined, but I see it as one of my very favorite things about this game and the writing.

In our modern ideology-centric society but in the end all of our actions and beliefs, even our feelings, are ultimately based on who influenced us, what we know, and what our own choices are. You support the things you support because a) you believe they will lead to certain results and b) you believe those results are good. 

If you say that your correct ideology is simply obvious everyone who doesn’t see it is malicious and you would always choose it no matter the influence, that you could be no other way than you are now because obviously the current way is the only “right” then you simply don’t know what’s influencing you and are blind to your potential for being wrong. It’s not something that jives well with our pride that we could be influential or wrong, or that if we’re right it’s in part by chance, but if we don’t admit the possibility (and with it, the existence of gray zones for all that we can all think of objectively bad things) how do we check ourselves for it? 

I wouldn’t go so far as to go with the popular notion in esoterics that people don’t have an inherent nature and that it’s all an illusory ego, but that inner nature and the inner principles that build on it exists in interaction with knowledge of cause and effect, and the available environments.

In other words: We learn a lot of in-depht stuff about all these characters by showing how they would react in certain circumstances. 

What differs between the routes is who the characters get close with, and what they know, both about the setting, and about the intentions of their characters.

The same basic traits and attitudes can interact in different ways with different fact patters. 

That many (though certainly not all!) ppl would agree with Edelgard if she went and explained her plan doesn’t mean the characters are wishy washy, it tells us something about Edelgard and her plan. All these characters have reasons to be against the status quo. It also shows of course that Edelgard failed to communicate this and hurt her credibility with her shady alliance of convenience. She is not really in cahoots with them, but looking like she is is a real political drawback of her decisions.

Another good example is Ferdinand and Dimitri. In three routes out of four Ferdinand thinks Dimitri is a useless leader. But if you recruit him to azure moon Ferdinand actually really gets on the Dimitri bandwagon really hard later on. They actually have pretty similar ideologies as ‘noble traditionalists’, they want to keep the order of society but also they want the institutions to be run properly for the benefit of the people. Out of the leaders, Dimitri actually the closest match to Ferdinand’s own beliefs, but on the other routes, he’s too lost in his reactive emotions to have an ideology. But IF Dimitri got a chance to work on his flaws - bam. Everything is different.

You can get Felix and Sylvain both on the kingdom side, both on the empire side, or of different sides both ways around, and ive seen plenty of fanfic of all those scenarios because they’re all so juicy (Actually even “one of them stays with the church or the alliance and the other dies at Gronder” is juicy though less dramatic)

Another interesting thing is how the religious characters react to the church corruption and how they all do so in different ways. Only Lysithea actually renounces the Sothis religion, Manuela, Mercedes and Marianne all reconcile the contradiction between the corrupt church and their belief in a good deity. We’re given no details on the decision processes Ferdinand, Ignatz or Leonie but presumably they’re also still believers, they’re all tolerant and believe in the value of dissentic opinion tho. 

Of course this potential isn’t quite tapped to the fullest a lot of the dialogue repeats or doesn’t differ as much, but there’s only so much material they could ut in there, the routes are samey at some points etc. but that doesnt detract from how cool the basic concept is. 

We essentially get 4 to 7 outcomes for each character, each route, and then differing on whether they were recruited or stayed with their original faction. 

The amount of difference is itself indicative - Some are more a less samey, others difference between some routes (Marianne and Lorenz notably have more change as characters on the ‘revolutionary’ routes (CF and VW), Bernie ends up more brave if she stays with the Empire, Byleth gets to choose where to live and work in CF/ ends up in different places depending on their chosen spouse, Felix is wildly different between routes, if he stays with the kingdom he eventually follows in his fathers footsteps, otherwise he follows his Lonewolf warrior inclinations, Catherine stays guarding Rhea forever if she lives but starts her own life of atonement and heroism if she dies etc. )

Whereas a lot of the characters who were never that interested in politics or that attached to their home countries essentially have the same endings if they live. 

Look for example at Ferdinand who outright gets this dialogue about “I wonder what would have become of me if things had been different”, but actually he always becomes a politician in nearly all his endings - Even when he sides against the empire and temporarily loses his territoty. But of course he does! Because he always had a positive attitude that pushed him to make the best of any situation, and tried hard to prove himself worthy. So even if he doesn’t get everything handed to him he proves capable of actually earning it. 

The one ending where he ends up a house husband instead is the one where his wife becomes the politician. XD

Oh the production is around and is interacting as well. They see everything. That’s why the last minute change of subject in season 4 suddenly after episode 3. But keep in mind that this will not happen again. Since the team doesn’t have the ability to modify quickly and with depth the script on the spot for the big plots. That requires extreme talent and experience from writers and directors alike. Which they know they are lacking. What they are here for is to feed information and create a certain atmosphere when needed because that is the way Wtfock has chosen to do their marketing. It is not only tumblr but all across the platforms in disguise as fandom members.

Production is very close like I said probably one degree of separation for blogs that are actively in the fandom or insta sphere or twitter world. I dont know about this tho “disguise as fandom members” mainly because they dont need to do that hun. Enough people do this work for free for them. There is no need to disguise it. Also anon just because Sobbe is end game doesnt mean wtfock cant fuck the entire s4 script. Evak is always end game and look at skamfr. Evak being endgame isnt some huge revolutionary plot choice. Now rewriting the original s4 script to introduce more sobbe because wtFOCK needs to play every single card they have honestly makes me nervous. I know the modification to the original script are very much centered around them and in away am like ok maybe this could be cool but I also dont know if Bram wrote the modifications or the intern. We also don’t know who is directing and I have been vocal I am not a big fan of Bente’s treatments. Sorry I know some of you like him and thats fine but I am just objectively as a consumer saying I dont like his style. Am allowed to like what I like. Also concerning the social game knowing wtFOCK they are going to try to push sponsored content and they are not tactful enough to do it well. Its always incredibly heavy handed and distorts the narrative. You all are to close to production if you actually believe that if wtfock fumbles this plot (by lets say episode 5) that the fans wont start dragging them hard then you aint really know wtfam. Wtfock is on an uber short leash. People will come for them and it will be ugly. My hope is the social team learns to use social similar to druck to enhance narratives and make the season immersive and maybe use it to wrap up the other characters while Yasmina and Sobbe play out on screen. Also imo I really wish wtfock wouldn't be so neck deep into the fandom. Gives me David/SkamFR vibes. Thats why people got their feelings hurt on both sides in S4 because they need to back off. They need to stop whispering in people’s ears and leveraging people because its creates this weird vibe imo. Thats just me tho and I dont consider these people friends I understand if you do its hard to not do them a solid here and there.

I belonged to another heated (but no longer debatable imho) ship were I've known a lot to be IH. And ofc I feel bad they have to bear witness to people so salty about the ending and hated Ino. I hate Ino too with burning passion, and that kinda made me feel guilty. But the psychology major in me was baffled as to how they conclude immediately w/ no analysis she was hated not only because of ships but because either she was written terribly, or she was written to be terrible. Or probably both.

Why cant Ichigo and Rukia be married to someone we could *infer* (because duh it’s not canon they will argue) they are in love with? Someone they have shown to share bond with? “Oh well, its becoming commonplace that the hero doesnt end up w/ main heroine, it’s revolutionary!” Bullshit. Sadly that is logic fallacy you dumbasses. Where’s the progress? Kubo tried, barely even. And again, it’s not even about the ships, its the entire work that has become an anomaly–Bleach as became Bleauuughch.

Again, I feel bad they have to bear the weight of evert criticism, the insult, and the salt of basically a majority of bleach fandom. Here’s the ugly truth about people: they can’t read.

We have this holdover idea from the Enlightenment that if you can gather enough evidence in fine and exacting enough detail, that you can not only discern some kind of truth, but convince other people of it through the preponderance of evidence. And we have structured our society around that idea, from politics to law to science to academia in general.

The trouble is that that idea is bullshit outside of academia.

That is not at all how regular people approach the world.

And the more we rely upon an idea that people are rational, the more we will be lost at and disappointed by the actuality that people are irrational and emotional.

Consider climate change. The scientific community has had roughly 97% consensus that climate change is being anthropomorphically driven (that is to say, somewhere between overwhelmingly and entirely caused by human activity) since at least the very early 2000s, if not back much earlier. Indeed, we know that the oil companies were aware of it at least as early as 1981! And here we are in 2020, with some 31% of the population either unsure of or disbelieving in it.

Whenever the matter is debated politically, scientists will trot out their facts and drop them on the table and point. The facts are self-evident, they feel. And then the conservative politicians will shrug and say, “I don’t believe you.”

And the scientists have no idea what to do about that. Because to their minds, facts are indisputable. You cannot argue with them.

But you can, as the conservatives illustrate. You just choose not to believe in them.

We are witnessing something very similar with COVID-19 at the moment, with large swathes of the (American) population simply not believing it to be a threat, in spite of all available evidence to the contrary.

We see the same thing with political leadership debating the question of whether to prioritize health or economics, and our media treating this as if it is a legitimate policy debate, when we already know the answer to that question from the Spanish Flu of 1918: towns and cities that were locked down and quarantined suffered fewer casualties and had much faster economic rebounds.

People generally do not read.

People generally do not process.

People generally do not analyze.

People generally do not learn.

And if they can’t do those things for very large-scale existential threats that can threaten anything from tens to hundreds of millions of people worldwide, to the entire ecosphere of the planet, why would one expect them do so for a piece of fiction?

If people cannot handle cold, hard statistical facts, or simple arithmetic, then they certainly cannot handle something as “subjective” as facial expressions or dialogue. I have written recently about how the attitude toward non-fandom things (e.g., politics) increasingly resembles that of fandom, of approaching everything as though it is merely an aesthetic exercise.

That is really what we are dealing with here: ignorance. There is a lot of tepid discussion out there in political circles that the degree of polarization in society today is unprecedented and that a way to bridge that gap could be through shared interests and values. But in my opinion, fandom proves exactly the opposite is true: the reasons people like things that are nominally “shared interests,” and their view of those things and why they are good, are completely and utterly irreconcilable. There is, essentially, virtually zero overlap in a Venn diagram of the perspectives. Shared interests divide as much as they will ever unite.

In that regard, Bleach should be treated as both a warning and a grim assessment of our world as a whole. It is not really an aberration.

It is the future.

This community (among others) has simply been living in it a few years in advance of other people. Everyone else has gotten their first big taste of it with Trump. (The Republicans have been constructing an alternate reality since 1964, but comparatively few people were aware of how deep the rabbit hole went.)

In my estimation, it is not worth engaging with people over a shared interest with sincerity, let alone in good faith, unless you have done some degree of vetting of their perspective. Most likely observing them or their works for a time. Without that, you simply open yourself up to these people who show a total lack of discernment or rationality.

And that is a large part of why social media is such an absolute garbage fire, because as platforms they are built around precisely the opposite notion. (And largely in defiance of the idea that people might want to curate their experiences or might not want to have “healthy debate,” which is almost never healthy and seldom ever debate). Some would argue this leads to echo chambers and hug boxes, but it’s not like the alternative that these companies have produced (for profit, of course, rather than for of any ideological mission) is any better.

To boil it all down, what we are really forced to rely on (quite sadly) is a free market approach: no matter how much that side rages and waves their “canon” status around, they simply do not produce much content. They will starve long before our side does, regardless of any other factors. (Their “canon” status did not help them any in the past four years.) And the people who are agnostic (e.g., the “I’m Still Bleach” crowd that is for some reason vaguely invested in the series as a whole) will lose interest and move on to the next shiny thing.

The only thing that is necessary in the face of all this is really patience. In the meantime, the best thing is simply to ignore the existence of such parties utterly.

sooo ruth and i watched the first hxh movie holla

me as soon as we’re done w/the yorknew arc: OH FUCKY ITS ANIME MOVIE TIME

i love anime movies. theyre so often Entertaining As Hell, and also Not Very Good. its a very fun intersection 

overall this movie slots pretty easily into that category. it was a good time but nothing revolutionary. which is ok! and that makes sense bc its not canon apparently 

this movie was basically the ‘killua and kurapika have Trauma(tm)’ movie lmao 

we open w/killua having a trauma dream abt illumi, rehashing the stuff we saw in the hunter exam arc....we see this a few more times in the movie, and it really drives home how killua is still rlly scared of illumi and kinda just goes into a dissociative trauma state whenever illumi is around (even fake doll illumi or dream illumi, in this movie). poor kid :( :( 

regrettably tho ruth and i agree that illumis outfit in this movie was pretty sexy 

ok that whole beginning part where kurapikas eyes get stolen happens SO fast hvbfhdjshfsk its like ok guess thats the status quo for this movie!

general thots:

so this was very much an Anime Movie, in that they cant like, advance to plot or develop the characters much, bc its a movie. and this one is non canon

it was enjoyable but i do feel like it was much more typical shounen then hxh usually is...like, i feel like this was made by the same people who make like, the naruto movies or w/e, and w/the same sort of approach/attitude 

this isnt necessarily bad - i LIKE shounen for a reason - but it was a bit noticeable bc it wasnt quite as smart as hxh is usually, and it rehashed a lot of stuff weve already seen in this show itself 

but still i think it did a good job w/what it had, and it had some good angst, and everyone was very gay which is good

the art style was SLIGHTLY wack but it wasnt as bad as i thought itd be 

overall a fun time like most anime movies. didnt reinvent the wheel but i had a good time. im excited for the greed island arc, and im also disproportionately excited to watch the hxh musical bc that is a thing that exists and i MUST see it asap bc that sounds like the kind of hilarious wackiness that appeals to me specifically

Craving for self growth: understanding the logic of "logic"

I remember i never really understand Fe/Fi dominant throughout my life because "that doesnt make sense". Of course i fully understand that, well, perspective matters. But somehow i went through a 'revolutionary' phase that made me thinking about a lot of things. About life and love and being grateful.

And somehow i find myself living in a sea of people who are Fe/Fi oriented. Really weird.

I remember being really challenged with the culture of 'patience', and 'go with the flow' and 'do what can we do with no limit' and 'liquid target'. Oh and infinite possibilities of redoing everything and just being fine with it. I remember i keep saying to my lovely seniors that 'this is not my pace and i am still not done adapting'.

However, i learn something. A logic of making logic.

Feelers are never illogical. The thing is, feeling for them is the logic. Because making things work while respecting people's choice and people's answer and their opinion, do make things work. Much faster. Much easier.

Blame my Te secondary function for making feelings logical, but it is logical. That's why The Creator asks us to make things easy for people when it comes to doing good. That would accelerate the process, that will bring effectiveness. That will brings productivity.

And it did bring a new perspective to take.

I thought i would leave after a year. But here i am. Continously grateful for myelf learning the hardway. For my self surviving the slow pace. For me appreciating the path i take, because for sure this leads to the better of me and the one i want to become. I am thankful for every feelers i met out there for making my logical-unbiased-centric as* frustrated.

Joliceur D. Grigori age 29

“Father Iron” age 60

this is my ex cp9 oc, he is actually 40 for most of his time in my story that he spends with my main ocs but this is the gist of what he looks like under readmore if youd like to know more about him

Backstory: Joliceur D. Grigori was born on an island in North Blue to an absent father and a half dead mother, she did not survive long enough to raise him beyond his first few days of life. he was raised in a relatively wellfunded orphanage and was as well fed as a D. trapped in a house with 50 other kids who also very much need food can be.

he got a lot of supplemental food by either fishing and foraging it for himself or more reliably, helping old ladies out around the city he lived in and eating with them multiple times a day, occasionally becoming closer to them than their own children/grandchildren. he spent most of his days dogging after older people on the island, whther elderly fisherman at the docks or grandmothers in the market, he was for most of his younger childhood a much beloved pseudo grandchild to every over 50 citizen of his home island.

occasionally in seclusion hed sing to himself or whatever stray animal that happened by and stayed to listen, and dream of one day becoming a somewhat well known musician. sadly this would not come to be however after a small pirate crew targets his home, and ravages his city for 3 weeks until he gets well and truly sick of waiting for the marines to show and takes matters into his own hands. at the age of 8 he takes a boat out after them into the night and “resolves” the conflict. in other words he manges to beath captain and first mate in single combat and terrify the much weaker crew into taking him back to his island and turning their former superiors in. this incident is what getts him the attention of cipher pol 9.

a few months after the pirate business blows over he is “adopted” by a man named spandine, taken to the island guanhao and never heard from agin by any on the island in north blue. this is where is decade long career as an assassin begins.

he spends the rest of histime as an 8 and 9 year old mastering rokushiki at a prodigous rate and eventually is deemed ready to be sent on missions at 10. by his early 20s he is dubbed the human buster call, or among his colleagues buster. he is...not quite depressed but not happy either. he spends most of his work time in a semi dissociative state and his off time rifling through missions lookingg for a job that doesnt seem as taxing as all the rest.

age 27, he is sent on an easy undercover mission ment to serve as a punishment for multiple failures to take out gold roger and silvers rayliegh. it is as an orphanage caretaker and he is meant to keep watch for orphan dealers and slavers, as well as scout for new cipher pol agents on the side.

he is meant to take it as retribution for failure. the job is supposed to grate on his nerves. the lack of action is supposed to frustrate him. being forced to care for 50+ children of varying age and volume with only 2-3 adults to help him is supposed to stretch his patience paper thin. he is meant to spend a year there in penance and come back eager to succeed at offing his marks without fail.

the experience is more rewarding than any of his training or missions he has ever done in his life up till that point. successfully coralling children into meals or games feels more like victory then getting one over on rayliegh ever did. the admiration and attention of a small hoard of grade schoolers is more rewarding then praise from his boss and colleagues ever was. he discovers that he is very very good at teaching and his singing voice is even better than it was as a kid, having dropped into a surprisingly soothing tenor somewhere in his teens. he finds that he very much likes taking care of others.

he gains a reputation as a hard worker, kind older brother figure to any child that will approach him. he is for the first time in his life well liked for things aside from his combat ability. its a rewarding job and he loves it. it ends by the very next year.

he returns to his house on guanhao. he tries to go on with work as usual. he takes time volunteering to train new recruits on his days off. he tries to go back to his same old missions. its all very grating in ways it never used to be and he hates it more than before when it was all he did and he hadnt known he could still sing or soothe kids or love any of the people around him.

eventually at age 30 he is sent on a mission of high priority: hunt down the beginnings of a revolution in east blue and quash it before it can truly take hold. it should be easy enough. all he has to do is find the right kind of people, express the right opinions and eventually one of them will lead him right to the nest.

he finds that he rather likes it there. not quite as much as caring for the kids in the old orphanage. its both not quite as good and better than before. hes not quite as good with the adults as he is with children but he gets along well enough. the mission goes well and not-quite-as-planned. he ends up doing a lot to gain the trust of the revolutionary army and in the process ends up sabotaging the cipher pol and the marines in equal measure.

still he does pretty well and manages to gain the trust of the more prominent members of the army, namely one bartholomew kuma. he eventually establishes himself as friend, via calculated use of the truth in small increments. he tries not to outright lie to anyone, by omission of key details if he must.

he plays a role of marine deserter on the run for a time with his history he cobbles together with his favorite parts made real by believable dustings of The Bitter Truth.

i m gonna cut this part short. he fesses up to kuma and by extension the revolutionaries. he gives them the whole story and they help him quit his job by faking his death in a show of dragons power. set him up on a nice quiet little island in one of the blues where he gets to own an orphanage/school and raise and teach kids quite happily until my Protagonist washes up on the island at the ripe old age of 6 gets adopted by him and makes trouble for the whole toen until shes finally old enough to strike out on her own as a woman of the seas.

Personality: he is an ice king for most of his life in cipher pol right up until he is steadily defrosted by the kids he looked after and bartholomew kuma. age 35 onwards he is pretty open and honest with everyone leaving out his personal history and all that. hes quite jovial by the time my main character comes into his care. hes big on cognitive compassion after extended exposure to dragon and kuma and does his best to teach kids the Good Morals. though with a broad and loose sense of whats good and what isnt. as an assassin he doesnt have a particluarly strong set of morals. more accurately hes got 3 strong morals in total, which are slavery bad wipe slavers out on sight, rapists bad kill on sight, pedophiles bad kill them when you see them, everything else is try not to steal or kill people if you dont have to, he masquerades as a priest for most of his life with like zero guilt because he does not like women or men and doesnt want them hitting on him for reference. he has kids to focus on leave him alone he doesnt care about how you think he looks or how you want to date him he has 40 plus children with varying problems to look after he doesnt have time to sabotage your first date with him just to make you happy he at least ~tried~ bitch hes got ex slave children to work through therapy for.

Appearance: brown hair when young, salt and chocalate? in his 40s, full white by 60. grey eyes. aquiline nose. used to shave while working for cp9 stopped a while after joining up with the revoltion and has never shaved since. hes had that patchy ass beard most of his life at this point. used to wear his hair in a really tight bun in cp9. stopped wearing his hair up around the same time he stopped shaving. has never cut his hair in his life, but his hairs thick and curly as fuck so it usually only touches the edge of his mid back towards the end and he can wipe his ass without fear unlike some of my other ocs. was toned 20s to 30s but stopped caring so much about staying in perfect shape after taking over his orphange, so still definitely muscular but more dad bod when hes older. he retains tekkai and kamie throughout his life can still geppo and soru but its more straining than when he was younger. doesnt stop him from moonwalking onto slaver ships to steal their child slaves to raise as his own and leave the slavers for the marines.

Miscellanious: he collects rosary and gives a basque ring rosary from his collection to protag-chan before she sets out on her own as a good luck charm/memento. while half the reason he decided to disguise himself as a priest is to use the vow of chastity as a way out of romance he also chose it so he wouldnt have to pick out clothes every day. he doesnt officially run missions for the revolutionary army but he does do things like take in ex slaves and let army members use his church/orphanage as a hideout/waypoint. he rebuilt the church he operates out of himself. he has armament haki and observation haki by age 30. if he has conquerors hes never unlocked it. all his knowledge about priests comes from kuma and he just bluffs through anything hes not sure about.
