EDIT: Art requests are OFFICIALLY CLOSED as of December 7th, 2024! This post is left up as an archive for future reference if I ever open up requests again, so please do not send in any more requests! Any asks sent for art requests while they are closed will be deleted on sight.
So, uh, I know recent news have been...not great. Particularly in the US. And I think it's important to acknowledge that.
However, I also think it's important to take care of our mental health and do something fun since we'd only be hurting ourselves with constant doom scrolling and fixating on the bad stuff 24/7.
So, I decided to officially open up simple Art Requests! And what I mean by that is I'm going to be drawing characters in the style of AVA/M stick figures! Both regular and in chibi style.
Examples:
(If you follow @/a-student-out-of-time, you probably already seen this little chibi drawing of Umeko Hayase, who belongs to the mod himself, I made for fun since I sent this in an ask yesterday. I'm using this drawing since it best represents what I will do for the chibi sticks.)
All art requests for this will be digital and fully colored, but won't be fully rendered. I want to keep the drawings simple and easy to make for myself for as long as I keep requests open.
With that out of the way, here are some rules for what to send in:
Requests for AVA/M characters are obviously welcome and I will be using my own designs & headcanons for them when completing your requests.
For those who followed me for my DRA & SDRA2 stuff (mostly SDRA2), I will also do art for characters from the duology! They will just be turned into stick figures, hehe. (I may even do canon characters from the Danganronpa series in general if anyone sends requests for them.)
(Also, if you want either AIkado or IRLkado in your request, please specify which one you want. Same goes for other characters in SDRA2 if you want their teenager or adult versions.)
OCs (and sonas) are also allowed, whether Danganronpa, AVA/M, or not! A reference is required, though. And if your OC isn't a stick for AVA/M, I suggest giving me a specific color you want me to use for the OC that you feel fits them best since these will be done in the stick figure style.
No NSFW! I do not make that kind of stuff in my art, and anyone that requests that will be ignored or blocked if repeatedly asked.
Shipping is allowed, but anything that involves incest, child/minor x adult, and abusers x victims will be ignored and blocked. And yes, that includes adopted siblings/children, so no Mikako X Yamato and Mango X Purple nonsense. I will smite you on sight.
While I do enjoy toxic yaoi/yuri (*gestures to my Sannotori stuff*), the point of these art requests is to make fun and fluffy stuff, so if you request a ship like Sannotori, I will make sweet and kind art for them.
I have the right to NOT do a ship if I'm uncomfortable with it or just don't like it. (ex. Mango X Navy, Alan X Anyone, Chosen X Second/Orange, Mikado X Sora or Yuki, Mitch X Anyone, etc.)
(This includes shipping in SDRA2 in general due to a certain twist that makes it...a little strange. While I'm pretty sure all the characters are adults, I decided that it's best to treat it as more of a case by case basis and how big the age gaps are.)
I will draw a max of three characters per request.
If the request is a ship, please specify it to be romantic, otherwise I will assume it's just a friendly interaction between two (or more) characters. Or use their ship name (with the characters' names as well just to make sure I know which ones I'm doing).
If you have a specific scene for a request, tell me in your ask. Otherwise I will just do whatever comes to mind first. Edit: I forgot to mention this but this applies to which style you want me to do between regular stick or chibi. My bad. ^^;
Requests will be fluff and kind only! As mentioned before, the point of this is to do something nice and relaxing for everyone involved. And personally, I am not in the mood to make angst. Please respect that.
(Funny shitpost requests are also allowed, of course.)
I will only take requests through my asks, no where else.
And I believe that's it. This list of rules may get updated if anything else is brought to my attention, but yeah! I think I'm gonna leave these requests open for about a month so this will last until December 7th, 2024, at midnight! Any requests I haven't gotten around to by the deadline will still be completed if they're ones I want to do but anything sent after the date will be ignored.
Feel free to send in requests!

What if I also asked some pointy objects hypotheticals once again 👉👈👉👈 I want to like ask me silly little questions without asking anything that may reveal The Lore™ so as for my 3am hypothetical questions (i could only think of 3):
-are meetings mandatory/can anyone call them?🤔
-generally how do the demis fare in school (since they all have different schooling and kokichi allegedly cheats off of kaede 😭)
-[in regards to all the characters/pairings,] on a scale of most toxic to least toxic which pointy objects pairings do you think are at the ends of the scale 😭
(Ngl last question was a self-indulgent way to share my opinions LOL for most toxic I vote junko+mikan BOOOO let my girl mikan go (although idk if she's all that good from that whole betrayal thing and attempted child murder thing but still booooo THEY COULD NEVER MAKE ME HATE U MIKAN) , for most healthy I vote hmmm uhm I actually vote Maki and Kaede!!! I LOVE their communication and lore in this story this fic singlehandedly made me ship them 10× more than shuichi+kaede actually) Okay BYEEE goodnight heart emojis *LOUD SNORE* mememmemeeme
HELLOOOOOO CIDER MY BELOVED <3 as always i adore your questions and comments and you have brought me some FUN ones so here we go off beneath the cut to indulge the terminal pointy objects brainworms
(spoilers? no. but i Do do some dancing around some interesting topics. teehee)
so: godly meetings! we've heard quite a bit about them, but don't actually know that much other than: they happen when important events take place, they're meant to be kept hush-hush from mortals, and even at the best of times they're kind of a veritable shitshow with even Career Politician Kiyotaka losing his patience with how they pan out. a big group of silly characters from this series all in a group yelling at each other following big things happening.....where have i heard that before?
to answer your more specific question: theoretically anyone could call a meeting, and they definitely have in the past, but generally one of the big five gods are at the helm. in which case they are mandatory, but whether or not all of the gods (of which there are a few dozen) show up is......another issue entirely. lmfao. most of the big five rarely ever go Lmfao it's usually hajime/makoto, celeste skipped the last several for uh. Rantarou Reasons. usually only hajime Or nagito go so one of them can stay at camp. most times absences are more of an annoyance than anything but since the spear went missing (and junko started calling meetings) said absences end up with a way worse impact.
but in Normal times like i said usually hajime or nagito stay behind, and unless there's an absolute emergency one of them is always at camp to keep an eye on the kids. which includes schooling for a lot of them! and as for our year-round kids (gonta, miu, kaede, kokichi, maki, ryoma, kiibo, kaito): it's about what you'd expect. gonta does all of his work by hand while everyone else has an online schooling that hajime and chihiro set up, they take it a varyingly amount of seriously no matter what hajime and nagito tell them about university, kokichi says he just cheats off kaede but secretly they both cheat off each other. tbh most of the summer-only kids go to fancy expensive private schools because they've got (generally) the better parents; angie's the only one that doesn't because she lives on her island with sakura most of the year.
and finally: toxic yuri/yaoi rating <3 you're so real actually for this one to give your hot takes (correct) and i will always take the opportunity to go on about my characters no matter how minimal to the story they are. SO for the purposes of this ranking instead of ranking them one-by-one (i tried tbh and it was really hard :sob:) i'm gonna put them in categories, descending in order of bad -> good
messy messy this is the stuff soap operas are made of:
junko/mikan (toxic yuri of a whole different breed THUMBS DOWN)
celeste/[REDACTED] (toxic yuri: classic edition)
gundham/fuyuhiko (relatively new relationship, both incredibly dramatic, they flirt by arguing)
messy but relatively functional:
makoto/byakuya (common problem-causers amongs the gods, definite flair for the dramatic but operate usually as a unit)
hajime/nagito (married longer than practically anyone else, large amount of people rely on them and places a large amount of trust in them as a team, this drives them kind of insane however. also izuru)
touko[+syo]/komaru (very solid in their relationship however have a tendency to be terrors about their children. in syo's case a terror in general)
flourishing. unbothered. except for the obvious:
kiyotaka/mondo (intense in contrasting enough ways that they balance each other pretty well. as long as maki isn't involved)
sonia/chiaki (new relationship, they hype each other up well, still figuring out how to break the step-sibling news to kiibo and himiko)
aoi/sakura (also an ancient relationship. eternal honeymoon phase. the most Straight Chillin pair among the gods due to loophole of hina living In The Ocean while sakura lives on the island with her non-bio child)
the demigods:
tenko/himiko (middle school sweethearts. very puppy love and sweet. have never had eyes for anyone else)
kiibo/gonta (newest relationship out of the whole bunch. less than 1 day together but hardcore mutual pining for AGES. especially protective of each other)
kaede/maki (untoxic yuri for the win. also very very fresh with even LOOONGER pining oh my god. intimate deeply impactful world-altering girl best friends -> girlfriends arc FOREVER!!! still have some stuff to figure out but their bond runs down to their bones)
#ask#bittercideristaken#pointy objects#if you notice a perhaps obvious absence. pointy objects saiouma are not together so i did not include them#for that and no other reason :)

Thoughts on toxic yuri?
SUPER depends on what you mean by this and which works you're discussing. if you mean toxic yuri in the sense of 'yuri intentionally depicting toxic relationships': huge fan of this, i love toxic relationships of all sorts. however, there's also a trend in both yaoi & yuri to include noncon/dubcon and generally toxic relationship dynamics specifically because it's yaoi or yuri, then present them as romantic. this is really common in published manga/doujinshi and older fics. i feel it's less common these days. i don't think these should be banned or anything and i'm not judgemental of people who read them. however, i don't personally like it and i do feel it's worth unpacking why people go to this as a default. i think people tend to equate these two things OR to mistake a desire to think critically about the second as a call to ban it. because of this, discussions about the matter tend to get really fraught; everyone is using different definitions and getting mad at each other even in cases where they'd probably agree. (not that there aren't people who are genuinely saying ridiculous things about one or the other.)
#also there's not always a clear line between the two#i also read the latter sometimes ftr bc it is SO common you basically can't read yaoi/yuri without running into it#i would just prefer it wasn't the default

I think it's weird that that Irish guy compared women reading erotica to men watching porn, when a more apt comparison would be men reading hentai. Like both written erotica and hentai are bad for the soul, but don't have any victims outside of the reader and writer (out of their own will, but victims in a way). None of these have actors drugged up so they can perform very humilliating acts and risking STDs, pregnancy and UTI.
Plus I hate when people try to equalize what men and women go through. Like, most people who watch porn are men (including some Christian ones, lets be honest here), and porn its literally catered to their fantasies. It's messed up when women stumble upon porn too because they are being fed degrading male fantasies that they might think its normal het sex, and might feel pressured to perform (many girls already admit to this). But then, I guess het porn is so depraved and male centered that somehow womens most watched category is lesbian porn (most of them being straight women). I think its weird he points out to porn with no women involved, because while that its true and bad in itself, het and lesbian porn are far more popular than gay porn. Like this are just facts that can be looked up.
Not to mention that most degrading and horrible acts are performed on the woman, and when its on the male its the bottom in gay porn. They are usually the ones getting choked, spit on, having semen thrown on their faces or being forced to swallow it, being the receiver on anal, having proplapses, being fisted on the vagina or anus, and so on. Its all based on violence and simply focuses on male pleasure. No gentle caressing for the women, or comfortable digital sex, or cunnilingus. Not that Im saying these things shoiuld be included, all porn should be erradicated, but the viewer watching this might expect their sex life to go the same way.
Also, I think its weird this same guy who wants to paint men and women on the same light as culprits on the sex industry, does not care to mention or see women who watch porn as victims and how it affects their self esteem and sex life, only the poor men and their ED and lack of motivation and incel tendencies.
This dude is sooooo corny and annoying ; he really think he's a Nice guy just because he's against post and agrees prostitution is a form of rape. Big deal. Congratulations for doing the bare minimum I guess?
And he won't make the comparaison with hentai bc the imbalance of male vs female consumption would be even more glaring. Hentai is an industry entirely dedicated to male. There's no female hentai author. Female author making drawn porn are either doing yaoi or yuri (although yuri made by women is closer to erotica than porn - you can easily clock yuri made by men because it's very male gaze-y). And you'll notice that either in yaoi or yuri, are the protagonist dehumanized like in hentai. Yaoi is infamous for sloppy toxic 'love' relationship, but there's still a storyline (tbh some yaoi characters can address interesting/deep issues such as repressed homosexuality, late blooming, etc.). In hentai, the female is treated like a sexual OBJECT with no substance whatsoever. I always said japanese male author were some of the worst are writing female characters and I stand by this word. Most iconic female manga characters were written by women. Period.
Even erotica isn't as bad as porn in male representation: men aren't reduced as "holes" to be "f*cked", and degraded into sex objects to be disposed of.... So even if we can agree exposing yourself to sexual content is ALWAYS spiritually damaging, the fact he removed any of that nuance to his statement lumping porn and erotica together was highly suspicious....
I mean the simple fact he lost his tits the moment people (bc I wasn't the only one) told him porn and erotica didn't have the same impact is everything you need to now about how his statement wasn't about acknowledging the damage of erotica, but rather equalizing male & female consumption of sex as an "entertainment", because men collectively have an extremely hard time to take accountability without trying to rub it onto women.
Remember that post I made a while ago saying some good Christian men on Tumblr pretended caring about radfem calling pro life and tradfem "pickme" and how "misogynist it was, and me pointing out that they actually didn't care about misogynist slurs directed at women, but pretended to do so to diss other women? Because when men defend women it's only to shove under the bus other women. That's precisely what he did there. That irish guy did the same by pretending caring about female consuming erotica...but what's interesting, is that to defend his shitty take, he suddenly got like "we don't speak enough about MALE victim of porn consumption ". See what he did there? He ultimately outed himself by straight up admitting he did all of this because of the poor male victims of porn consumption. Interestingly, in none of his posts he extended the same compassion for women who are reading erotica and who, following his own logic, are victims too. He ultimately only shown himself dragging women down to assimilate them to male pattern mediocrity (disingenuously lumping erotica as something as much damaging as the IRL porn industry), and elevate young boys as victims. Typical.

director's cut of "an exercise in determination" because i think it actually turned out pretty well :]
just going over some of my favorite lines... nothing fancy
kind of insane how "saving" sasuke involves like. killing every part of themselves that could really change anything and also sasuke. something something love doesn't mean anything good necessarily. "saving" sasuke means enforcing the status quo. and making sure that he ends up enforcing it too. terrifying! this is what i'm talking about when i say rin-sasuke parallels. and romance-as-horror.
obirin section as a whole is just pretty dang awesome in my opinion but also i am biased. with great love for rin. anyways the whole thing is playing off of 1- obito being in love with an ideal rather than nohara rin, and that ideal being retroactively added into the world (only alive to justify the eventual mourning) and 2- aromantic rin. of course. she's a little more romance repulsed in this than i usually write her. but in my defense this is taking place in a world where "soulmates" are "guaranteed" to "know you completely". so you can imagine how that would cause problems for her.
terribly aphobic kakashi moment thats extra funny because by the cultural context of this au he's actually being quite progressive by suggesting that soulmarks could reflect anything besides traditional heterosexual relationships. tenzo is very demi to me. which is what this section is about (subverting the subversion of "no romantic feelings = no soulmark). because exactly 0 of the soulmarks end up being entirely accurate to any of these guys.
i dont like jiraiya teehee... firm believe in pan tsunade (plus bonus sneaky orotsu yuri(real)) but SHE does not know that. and doesnt have anyone to engage with this in. becuase orochimaru is not even a little bit out at this point. anyways this section DOES focus on her attraction to men for a reason also which is that i am demonstrating someone "following the rules" of both action + attraction and STILL getting "fucked over" by who her soulmate ends up being. although really in her book never knowing them (she refers to them with he/him pronouns through the section but this is because of heteronormativity) is a win. because of the lack of grief. which is further subversion of "never knowing your soulmate tragedy"
CLASSIC tenji moments. least angsty section because neither of their problems are even a little bit connected to their relationship because both of them are weirdly distant from cultural norms. and are therefore entirely comfortable in their awesome aro all situationship. rock on dudes. very interesting to me though in how it continues the theme of "fighting for konoha perfectly on paper but not "meaning" any of it" and how even though tenten doesnt "mean" it, despite what the narration says she is actually still very much perpetuating these systems. inch resting to me!!! does her self-awareness make her crimes worse or better? neither because intent has no bearing on action.
danzen is always always always most interesting to me through a lense of selfishness vs selflessness. hiruzen is being selfish by wanting the people he loves to outlive him -> danzo is being selfish by giving hiruzen what he wants because doing this makes him happy. and the way he measures it by the effects of the actions... his selfishness is more "morally correct" because it doesnt change the outcome of anything whereas hiruzen's derails the entire village time and time again. but this is hypocritical because he is literally not assassinating hiruzen because of his crush. great stuff as always big fan of toxic old man yaoi. this and the team 7 fic are the most straight-forward critiques of soulmate au because they're based entirely on presence of different attraction rather than aromantic shenanigans which is why i bookended the fic with them.
i wanted to include some apl stuff but i couldnt really think of anything that would fit... plus i feel like in order to properly dissect loveless aro discrimination you have to actually get to a point where "platonic soulmates" are even being brought up. which is not the case in this world. maybe some other time.

NAME: "rain_candy" or Ame. However, people also call me by my online alias, Calamity/Cal.
PRONOUNS: She/He/They, uses all three interchangeably.
PREFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION: tumblr asks <3 however, if we're good friends/mutuals and we're comfortable around one another, you can also find me on discord.
NAME OF MUSES: My main muses of the moment are my original characters such as Kasumi Kamishiro and Kadence Irving, and my media muses such as Emu Otori and Sparkle. There is a full list of media muses that you can check out here.
NAME OF SERIES: In addition to my main roleplay muses, I also have muses originating from my different writing series, such as The Emerald Masquerade series and the Needy Streamer Overload series. For most of those series, there is a list of the muses which you can check out here. As for the Emerald Masquerade, you can find everything relating to it here, including both design-wise and lore-wise. A rewritten version will be coming onto this blog, however.
BEST EXPERIENCE: To me, meeting new people (and anons) and discovering the particular dynamics between their character and mine. I absolutely love talking character dynamics and character development a ton! I also enjoy helping workshop muses and figure out their defining traits and characteristics.
...
ROLEPLAY PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS:
- Lack of Communication. As someone with autism, it's important that we have a good communication basis! Especially if you have a concept or a plan you'd like to experiment with. Do you need something? Please, come and talk with me!
- Romanticizing/Glorifying Dark Themes. As someone who writes for certain dark themes and draws from their own real-life experiences, there's nothing wrong with having writings and discussions around these topics (One of the most well-loved pieces from me explores various dark topics.) but I refuse to glorify and romanticize them. Especially when it comes to topics like abuse, harassment, or assault. And if I catch you romanticizing these themes, that is a hard block. And please don't try to justify or defend it, that's disgusting.
...
MUSE PREFERENCES: I'm down for any and every kind of dynamic... but my favorite muse preferences are the hot and cold muses who are opposing in every way, they're so different from one another. I'm also a big fan of different kinds of romantic and platonic relationships! They can be the most normal couple or the very essence of toxic yaoi/yuri, but as long as there's chemistry and chances for their relationship to develop and grow... I'm in! Love a good enemies-to-lovers dynamic...
PLOT VS MEMES: BOTHHHHH. Good god, I love shitposts and memes a ton. I love being able to have a good laugh, and some of the best shitposts come from plot-based interactions. It makes for a good mix of serious writing and lighthearted fun... and sometimes meme-ing on people somehow becomes canon lore. As long as we're having fun, who cares, right?
LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: Oh... hmm. Honestly? I don't mind either. I'm someone who loves a good amount of detail and interest in my stories and my roleplays, but I also understand that fatigue and burnout hit really easily so... anything works! I typically have a more medium length to my responses but... whatever works for you works for me!
BEST TIME TO WRITE: fuck if I know man /j But uh, I think the best time to write, especially a story, is when inspiration hits! Even if it's in small bursts, something is better than nothing, right?
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): ... personally, I don't think so??? My friends might have something different to say though... [ intensive thinking ]

saw the post about not understandimg proshipping and antishipping.
antishipping started when people saw a ship they didnt like and called themselves anti[insert ship] like anti sokoku or anti billford. then antishipping became a word for anyone who is against the existence of "problematic" ships.
that cuased anti antis/proshippers to start being a thing. proshipping doesn't mean you ship "problematic" ships, thats a darkshipper or comshipper- someone who ships dark or complicated ships. dark/comships include toxic yuri/yaoi, abuser x abused, adult x minor, age gap, incest and the like.
because antishippers equate liking a fictional ship means liking the dymamic irl (although they don't believe that liking a fictional murderer makes you like irl murder) they assume that anyone who for example ships wincest or odazai is a sibling fucking child molester. therefore they harrass and dox people. once a trans woman was harrass so hard on the internet by antishippers that she detransioned and stopped creating her stuff, i think it happened around or before covid. cant find the source rn but u can research. There was also this guy in the cartoon/entertainment industry and he harrassed a disabled proshipper so badly they lost their job, he was then exposed for having acutal csa material and antishippers shoved it under the rug. u can also reseach that case urself.
anyways, plenty of proshippers don't even like darkships. being proship means you believe you shouldn't harrass people for their ships. the idea that characters are like dolls and antishippers take things too seriously is a proship concept. being proship means you also believe all fictional media has a right to exist, ships that are toxic and books about bad people of all kinds. being proship also means that if you see ship or headcanon or whatever that you don't, you follow the Don't like, dont read principle(DL;DR) and Your kink is not my kink and thats okay(YKINMKATO) and block and curate your own fandom experience. you can complain about whatever ships you want and how you personally don't like it but don't do that to someone who wrote a fic about it. being proship is being anti-censorship and anti harrassment.
Ao3 was also built by proshippers for proshippers(lawyers for anti harrassment-look up ann rice and the fanfic.net and watpadd purges, as well as anti censorship for all fictional content), it was also made by a darkshipper (one of the creators is a known throki and wincest shipper, so they shipped toxic ships and incest ships). hating on other fics and stuff is strictly against ao3s DL;DR mentality and dnis should be reported. Also you should look up "american feelings yakuza" to see how people in fandoms outside america think of the issue.
Huh thanks. That harassment shit is awful and from what I've heard it happens on both sides, which is awful but yk.
I feel like I saw a post before talking abt all this stuff but I don't remember when. Thanks for all the info tho. I consider myself kinda neutral on this stuff, I'm not rly a proshipper nor an antishipper bc I js don't care. It's none of my business, and I'll talk to ppl on either side as long as they aren't harassing ppl.

Good stuff! I will say I'm p sure the reason utena was yaoi was bc the term yuri wasn't used that way yet (it officially became what we know in the early 00s) and b4 that lesbians also went to the yaoi pile. I could be misunderstanding and that's what you meant, but i like talking abt yuri lol. I think yaoi at that point was pretty much an umbrella for all the queer taboo works, but yaoi isn't what i know much abt
Also, the evolution of the term yuri has a few different phases, and to my amateur eyes it looks like yaoi has focused it's scope while yuri has expanded to where they're both similar sized umbrellas. Ofc, i could be misunderstanding ur brevity but i figure expanding on the yuri timeline with what i know can't hurt lol
For the term yuri, we all know abt the yurizoku column in barazoku but I've seen offhand mention that after that straight guys started using it for lesbian porn at comiket. The lesbians saw it and were like, hey, that's actually a p good idea. So when they were officially deciding how to call the genre in the early 00s yuri was on the table and got chosen.
Then it got stuck in a very iyashi rut for a while with publishers a bit suspicious of whether porn could be yuri, or if a certain level of contact made it "rezu". While also being cautious of whether discussion of actual queer issues would appeal to yuri readers, or if that would also be more of a rezu thing. Through the 2010s it evolved to just include all of those aspects as publishers realized yuri readers will read basically anything with girls flirting (going thru yuri hime's early 10s catalogue you can see the experimentation).
I'm not the best person to compare the 2 since idk much abt yaoi, but if i had to pinpoint the difference in vibe I'd focus on the dynamics. Specifically, as i understand it yaoi very commonly features hard line dynamics. Obv uke and seme, but even outside of those yaoi tends to lean into the stratification of the relationship while yuri tends to equalize. Like, even toxic yuri tends to lean into the characters having complementary traits that makes them worse together. While from my limited knowledge of toxic yaoi, it tends to have more straightforward abuse.
Mostly i notice that the yuri pairs i usually see getting called yaoi are ones with more competitive or contrasting dynamics. For example, kuromaya gets called yaoi pretty often and is quite competitive. But that's my 2 cents.
In case you didn't already know abt these sources, as yuri goes the yuricon website is a great resource.
There's also this paper from 2013 that has a lot of good info.
Hi! I came across a post complaining about the guy yuri poll and discourse aside, I vaguely remember you made a post about what is yaoi and what is yuri? I dunno if I dreamed this post up, but I've scrolled and scrolled and I can't find it. So, I wanted to ask (if you don't mind answering >.<), what is yaoi/yuri? (beyond the basic definitions) What counts as guy yuri and girl yaoi?
Uwaa ok so I will say Im planning to actually write a paper on this but I haven't done much research yet so ask in a few months and you'll hopefully have a better answer with cited sources. But here is a bit of what I'm conceptualizing at this point (corrections and additions very welcome!)
What set me down this path really was of course the fantastic Yaoizine hosted by tshirt3000, which includes a rather poignant author's note about broadening the definition of yaoi in public to the abstraction. Indeed, the actual origin of the term "yaoi" is an acronym for "yamanashi, ochinashi, iminashi" (plotless, climaxless, meaningless) from 70s doujinshi spheres wherein it was used as a somewhat self-degrading term to define a specific type of porn-without-plot self-indulgent indie fancomic. These were of course, mostly of the male-male variety. However, as the Yaoizine makes clear, there's not really an inherent gendering within the word in any sense but genre expectation-wise. This becomes particularly salient in the case of perhaps one of the most famous wlw romances out there, Revolutionary Girl Utena. Tshirt cites an interview with the creator of the anime, Ikuhara Kunihiko, where he refers to the relationship between the two main female characters (among other things) as yaoi, recontextualizing the term from merely a mlm genre into a statement on the dynamics of power and consumption as they relate to gender-- an act of sexual passion paired with a reversal of societal norms = yaoi in this case, which is why utenanthy fits perfectly within the term.
Conversely, yuri (lily) is a bit more difficult to analyze from a gender-neutral perspective as it originated not as a counterpart to yaoi, but instead as a counterpart to bara (rose, a term used to refer to erotic gay male content) used when lesbians would write in to gay magazines trying to hook up and whatnot. However, it's pretty agreed upon that the genre grew out of Class S literature, a type of literature based on girls, often senpai and kouhai, going to an all-girls school together and experiencing a connection that straddles the thin line between romance and homosociality. Homosociality like this among women has historically been and to this day remains somewhat under the radar and perceived as a "phase" or an amateur attempt at romance before a woman eventually marries a man. This is where we see significant overlap between pre/early modern Japanese male homosexual literature and lesbian literature, where homosexuality is seen as a youthful phase that will inevitably be grown out of (as in the case with the chigo system, LUG (lesbian before graduation), etc). Essentially, it was very common for the characters of early modern queer literature (mostly written by queer authors btw) to have brief and passionate schoolyard flings before graduating onto "normal" sexuality. Of course, these narratives fell out of style and are considered dead today, but their remnants can still be seen in the subsequent shojo and modern gl manga boom. The yuri that grew from this in the beginning was usually explicitly erotic, but still somewhat held onto the predominant themes of schoolgirl innocence and youthful beauty. Over time, meanings and terminology shifted, and the "yuri" we use today is more interchangeable with "gl", meaning it's not so much of an indicator of explicit content as "yaoi" is. However, I would still argue that one of the largest indicators of a story's "yuri factor" (if you could say that) is its ties to the establishing homosociality progressed into homoromantic relationship genre expectation. Of course, there are many wlw stories that subvert this, (as there are many mlm stories that subvert the yaoi or even bl template) but to me, if you were to compare yaoi and yuri's theming, yaoi's focus tends to skew more towards the intimacy in explicit eroticism, while yuri looks more into the implicit eroticism in intimacy. If that makes sense.
Of course, when looking into "boy yuri" there's also a transfem-coding factor to consider, which I think is what the majority of people have in mind when they refer to a couple as "boy yuri". Historically, there is massive precedent for feminization between male queer couples in historical Japanese literature, as well as in early modern relatives of bl, mainly Inagaki Taruho's work, so it would be somewhat disingenuous to say feminization is a purely modern, female-created phenomenon. But anyway, those are my (somewhat messy and likely inaccurate) thoughts so far, let me know what you all think. Have a happy yaoimas and merry new yuri, as they say.

So do you um... really think people are homophobic cuz they don't ship a child and a minor and that the reason people prefer RoyAi over it is cuz RoyAi is a straight ship? I'm gay and correct me if I'm wrong but I felt like that was the whole innuendo behind your response to that other anon with your whole "boohoo you're mad I don't ship your het ship" when it has nothing to do with it being heterosexual. Are you only excusing pedophilia because it's a mxm ship? If so, you have ZERO standards and should understand that a ship can be bad regardless of whether it's het gay lesbian or anything else under the sun. Just like people in other fandoms excusing an abusive mother x daughter only cuz it's yuri. Some people have their own traumas and don't like seeing that kind of relationship glorified or romanticized at all whether in fiction or real life, bringing up how love-is-love was changed from including people of all sexual orientations to people excusing literal pedophiles. Their discomfort with it is completely valid. Roy isn't like that, he would never fuck somebody he knew when he was a child. I hate SessRin and KakaSaku for the exact same reason as why I dislike RoyEd because of the age gap. And it's het, so you can't use the "you hate yaoi" argument for that one. Also the logic of "waiting until somebody is of age" doesn't make it any better, because that would mean Roy was still attracted to a child and the law was the only thing stopping him from acting on his pedophilic desires, and would make him a child groomer. The ship makes him look like a horrible person regardless of if Ed is 18 or 13. Also, even age gap aside, how are you going to say RoyAi is toxic but deny Roy*d is even more toxic? Ed couldn't STAND Roy for a large portion of both series and even said he hated him. He constantly argued with him and Roy was always antagonizing him. Roy even used and manipulated Ed at points for his own goals ESPECIALLY IN 03 like wtf. For the record, I'm not really a fan of RoyAi, I followed you for your RoyMaes and EdLing Art, but your hypocrisy is just absolutely ridiculous and kinda disgusting because it's insulting to actual gay people to use RoyEd being gay as some sort of twisted defense. Roy is like a parental figure to Ed at BEST. He's not a pedophile. He's not a child groomer and you're turning him into a horrible MONSTER by defending some sick shit like that.
Next you're gonna excuse Hoheneheim x Ed or parent x child being shipped too in the logic that it's "only fiction" and say people only hate it cuz "they're mad that somebody doesn't ship their boring het ship". Because incest and pedophilia are one in the same in this regard, so don't say one is only fiction but not the other otherwise you're just a hypocrite.
Also if you're excusing incest too, welp. You've got some serious issues, buddy. Don't know what more to say.
You're just mad that people don't like your pedophilic gay ship so you lash out at other ships for being straight. What a 🤡

More Things Than You Ever Cared To Know About My Writing
This was originally posted by ‘vorchagirl’, reblogged by someone I follow. And I thought it would be fun to just outright answer these in a questionnaire type way, rather than as asks. So here we go =)
Feel free to do this yourselves if you like it. Just please remember to add the original poster.
Fanfiction Questions
Fandom Questions
1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?
Properly? Probably Pokemon. I’ve been writing fanfiction for it for years.
2. What is your latest fandom?
Funnily enough, Sonic, despite being a fan since I was like seven years old. I’ve just never seriously got into it since then until now.
3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?
The Pokemon fandom. I’ve made some awesome friends in it.
4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?
You hear things, but I’ve not really come across any toxicity besides the reaction to the Sonic Movie.
5. Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for?
A good few, but the only ones you’ll find are Pokemon, Sonic and Zootopia.
6. List your OTP from each fandom you’ve been involved in.
Zootopia - Judy/Nick
Sonic - Shadow/Rouge, Silver/Blaze
Pokemon - I don’t usually ship in Pokemon, but Jessie/James because reasons
7. List your NoTPs from each fandom you’ve been in.
Sonic/Amy. Sorry. Some art is cute, but it’s not my jam.
Shadow/Maria. I don’t ship animals with humans.
I also don’t ship yaoi/yuri pairings.
I do not poop on any ship. If it’s one I’m not fond of, I just scroll on and leave it be. Shipping can be pretty toxic sometimes, and I just don’t get it at all.
8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?
I was writing Mask Behind the Monster and my husband’s aunt suggested I join a specific Sonic forum to post it in. So I joined the Amino and posted it, all nervous. The reception blew me away, and I met some awesome people, so I stuck around.
9. What are the best things about your current fandom?
The friends I’ve made.
10. Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?
Probably. Can’t think of any off the top of my head.
Ship Questions for your Current Fandom
11. Who is your current OTP?
Shadow/Rouge. Also Infinite/Amy. This is because of my current writing projects.
12. Who is your current OT3?
None.
13. Any NoTPs?
We’ve been over this *looks up*
14. Go on, who are your BroTPs?
Sonic/Tails =3
15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?
Infinite/Amy. I didn’t initially. But if it’s done right, and there are reasons for them to be together in that setting, then it works.
16. Are their any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike?
Sonic/Shadow, Infinite/Gadget
I’m also not a fan of most Pokemon anime ships.
17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?
Knuckles/Amy. I still have a soft spot for it.
18. What ship have you written the most about?
Amy/Espio. I went through a phase... Read a couple of ‘fics and thought ‘Why not? Sounds like fun.’ XD
19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them?
Not really. As much as I like shipping, because I’m a fluff-junkie, I have to just like it.
20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking?
Again. Inf/Amy. This one took me by surprise.
Author Questions
21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?
Erm... if I remember right, Some cringy self-insert Pokemon ‘fic when I was like 14/15.
22. Is there anything you regret writing?
Everything I regret writing has been deleted.
23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.
The End and Mask Behind the Monster. I can’t choose one over the other. They were both written with a lot of meaning and emotion behind them, and I have a soft spot for both.
24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?
I keep thinking about re-writing The End, but I worry it will lose its fire if I do...
25. What’s your most popular fanfic?
I think... THINK... it’s Mask Behind the Monster.
26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?
To Title is hard. System:Reboot was a suggestion off a friend who I have lost touch with. Its working title is ‘Hacked’. A lot of my stories have preliminary working titles until I come up with something. The End was named after a song. Confectionary Conundrum was originally called ‘Sugar Snow’ which is the name of the sweet shop in that story. The Mainframe Saga’s Scrivener file is still called ‘Datastream’. Its separate books have been renamed as I’ve been ‘planning’ them out (as much as I plan).
27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?
Probably summaries, because FFNet leaves very little space to do so.
28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?
I have actually had fanart, so this is hard to say. A lot of people like drawing my cyberpunk Infinite redesign which has surprised me.
29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?
My husband proof-reads my stuff, and then I question him on it. I don’t have a beta. I’ve thought about it, but I stick to a strict time-frame when it comes to uploads where I strictly give myself very little leniency. So if it wasn’t beta’d in time, I’d get a little frustrated and I do not like to pester people. I also worry I’ll be told to edit and cut a LOT, and I don’t like to butcher my ‘fics. I do that enough while I’m writing 8D
30. What inspires you to write?
My faith. That is a BIG one. You will find references and metaphors to my faith throughout my stories. Particularly in The End and The Mask Behind the Monster. Music is another huge inspiration drive. I’ve come up with entire scenes and even plots or sub-plots listening to music. I was just on a walk listening to some cyberpunk tracks when I got the spark for The Mainframe Saga.
31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?
Oh boy. Where do I start? I think I was especially moved when someone told me they read The Mask Behind the Monster to their sisters.
32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?
Yes. A lot. I listen to a variety of stuff from Christian rock and EDM to cyberpunk instrumental tracks. Main bands are Thousand Foot Krutch, Family Force Five, Cruxshadows, Holon, Misanthropix, Scandroid and Celldweller.
33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?
It really varies. I lean towards epics. Even Glitched ended up being longer than planned, if memory serves, although it’s not epic length. The Mainframe Saga is made up of chaptered ‘fics, ficlets and one-shots.
34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?
I couldn’t tell you, because Scrivener crashes when I try to get the word count for System:Reboot XD
35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?
I don’t, but I have thought about it.
36. What’s your favourite genre to write?
Sci-Fi. Hands down.
37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?
I prefer third person, particularly restricted third person, because it is easier to write about different characters. That way the reader knows what’s going on when the main cast do not. I was very surprised I enjoyed writing first person so much in Mask Behind the Monster, though. But I did leap into third person a couple of times to give a wider perspective.
38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?
I love creating OCs. But I will use canon characters in the Sonic fandom.
39. What is you greatest strength as a writer?
From what I’ve been told, character development.
40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
Violence. And tragic back stories. I have legit questioned my sanity when coming up with scenes that include this.
Also... when I write fluff... I kind of grind to a halt and struggle through it. Often interspersed with gazing from the window and thinking well further ahead than where I’m currently at. This often results in forgetting dialogue I think up during my garden gazing.
Fanfiction Questions
41. List and link to 5 fanfics you are currently reading:
I won’t post links because it is much too fiddly. But Guiding Light by Ambyssin, Heart Song by Suetonicsonic, Fall From Power by Lordius Dannius.
Hands of Creation by Namohysip, and The Curious and the Shiny by Nebula Dreams. Both of which I seriously need to pick up again.
I believe you can find all of them on FFNet.
42. List and link to 5 fanfiction authors who are amazing:
Same applies as above. Ambyssin, Suetonicsonic, Namohysip, Chibi Pika and Nebula Dreams.
43. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you?
Ambyssin has provided some amazing constructive criticism on System:Reboot which has resulted in me making a terrifying antagonist out of Gadget the Wolf. I strongly hope no other antagonists will develop what I have nicknamed ‘Socket Syndrome’. His drive and commitment to his writing has been pretty inspirational, too.
But in all fairness, I think most, if not all, of my writing friends have been inspirational and very supportive. I offer digital high-fives to each and every one of you.
44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?
I can’t think of any. People should write what they like. And I believe if you want to read it, and it doesn’t exist, then you should write it yourself if you can.
45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?
Guiding Light by Ambyssin. It’s not often I fall in love with a fanfic.
Fall From Power by Lordius Dannius is another.
46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?
The End or The Mask Behind the Monster, because they’re pretty special to me.
47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?
FFNet. I’ve been posting there for years. I’m iffy on AO3. I’ve considered posting to Tumblr, but my solution to that is to post links and artwork instead.
48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?
If I feel I have something to say, I’ll post a review. I like to make sure I do so, though, and I have been known to make notes on my computer and post reviews in bulk to works posted on Serebii.
49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not?
I love comments, and I will try to respond to each one. Reblogs are totally welcome!
50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
I’ve been writing for many, many years. Since before I was ten years old. Pokemon likely got me into fanfiction. I can’t remember writing it for anything else prior to that cringy ‘fic I mentioned earlier (which we will never, ever talk about. Ever.)
51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
I love the creativity behind it, especially OCs. Pokemon OCs are my favourites, particularly in PMD or Pokecentric settings. Both Sonic and Pokemon offer a lot of inspiration to create OCs as the worlds are both pretty vast. AUs and canon settings both offer massive scope for creativity. It’s seeing peoples’ headcanons and takes on the franchises that I really enjoy. Yes, I do like shipping, but a story does NOT need it to be a good story. It’s the way people tell it that matters more to me.
I know this says ‘one thing’. But I just want to make it clear, the one part of fanfiction I don’t like, is M-rated stuff. And I will not read it. It... bugs me when a ‘fic I’ve been enjoying suddenly changes its rating XD
(I do not own any of the fandoms or characters mentioned in this post) <- Nervous Nelly moment?
#fanfiction#sonic the hedgehog#pokemon#zootopia#writing#this took me a while but it was fun#I hope you enjoy#everyone should do this#we do not ever talk about the cringy pokemon 'fic

The situation about rev on AO3
So, I think some of you guys who follow the oumota tag have at some point heard or seen something of a person named Rev. Rev is an author and oumota fan, and one of my closest friends. A few days ago, a person on Twitter posted a really nasty tweet about them. And today, I saw a post here on Tumblr on how another person replied to Rev’s original post about this entire thing.
I’m hopefully not going to make an entire essay about this thing, but there are a lot of things these two are totally lying about. Rev was kind enough to not mention the Twitter user by name, but I can’t promise that I will be just as kind, because this person is horrible and someone I hope you never have to meet.
Just like Rev, I too joined a server about oumota a number of months ago, a while before Christmas last year. I don’t remember if I joined before Rev, but I remember I adored their writing and I loved being in this server. The people liked my stuff and soon I had people who wanted to talk to me. Around and right after Christmas, I had a group of friends I talked to almost daily. And Rev was one of them, even if our timezones made stuff difficult XD
But then one day, I started to notice that the entire atmosphere in the server changed. People started to break some of the rules daily, including two of the mods (the Twitter-user and the other peron here on Tumblr). One rule was to not post character hate, which was very logical and good. But soon enough, people started to post lots of hate posts about Kiyo, saying all kinds of horrible stuff. One of my friends is a big Kiyo-fan, and she was really bothered by this. Another thing I personally together with Rev was put down for was the heterophobia (and yes Auz, it is a really thing and you guys need to quit with your bullshit about it). It was apparently okay to personally ship F/M, but not post anything about it. But yuri and yaoi ships was 100% okay for some reason (sounds like the shit homophobes say: it’s okay to ge gay, as long as you don’t show it)... One of these things was that accoring to them, Ouma and Kaito are 100% gay. But nowhere in the game is that stated. Yes, it’s IMPLIED that Ouma might like guys, but we don’t know for sure. Which is why some people ship him with females, same with Kaito.
The last straw about this was when I was personally attacked for liking Junko. I and another friend mentioned in one convo how we liked Junko. I was personally told by THE NEW SERVER OWNER, that he was going to squeeze me to death just like he would to Junko. Auz and company said it was supposed to be a joke, but the server owner never apologized or said anything himself to clarify this. I was never close to him, so I had no idea what kind of humor he has, and he should have known it. My friend was also semi-attacked for defending me, which was what made us thinking about leaving the server entirely.
The reason these people are attacking Rev is purely because they don’t like them. Rev was different from them, liked different things than them. Rev has NEVER done anything to harm anyone, and you guys who actually read their works or even properly talked to them can see that for yourself. Yes, it’s one thing to write something and another to like it outside of the internet. But Rev is nothing but a supporting and caring person. Auz and the Twitter-user claim that Rev is both homophobic and transphobic, but that’s the total opposite of what Rev are.
And about how we were going to spam with art of “triggering” stuff (aka stuff they didn’t like, they are easily triggered), that is without any context, which is something they apparently didn’t care about when they banned us. So for the rest of you guys, I’ll tell you:
We who were banned, before it happened, had done a server just for us to vent and have fun like we couldn’t do in the oumota server. We talked about how we all wanted to leave the server, but we also joked about how we should make a raid as we leave. Keyword here is JOKED. You got words of this, but instead of talking to us you instead banned us without any warning. You had no context for this, which gave you false signals. You banned us on false grounds!
So for you guys who might be reading this, please listen to me: these people are lying about Rev. They somehow also claim that genderbends are somehow transphobic, which I have really hard imagening. Like, genderbends is just that they are opposite of their canon gender, while trans is that they don’t identify with the body they are born in. If you really are grossed about genderbends, simply ignore it. People don’t like the same thing, and you are able to just scroll past stuff you don’t like or agree with.
And listen here Auz (yes I’m calling you out now): it’s totally okay that you don’t like what we like and post. But don’t you DARE threaten Rev or any of us others. We have been nice enough to ignore you guys for the last few months. And what do you guys do? You lie and call Rev something they are not. Simply for drama, which was also supposed to not be okay in your server according to your own rules (but it looks like they never mattered anyway). You banned us yeah, but you could have at least been kind enough to let us be. Returning the favor, what’s that? And for that part about Rev being homophobic:
I DARE YOU TO DM ME AND GIVE ME PROPER EVIDENCE ON HOW REV WAS HOMOPHOBIC. But I think you won’t... Because you probably don’t even care about the truth, but only what you believe in.
And if trans hc in the nsfw-channel wasn’t okay, then you should have banned others too, but one of your mods comes especially to mind.
You are also supposed to be an adult too, yet you never acted like one. You didn’t stop and thought of what maybe made us act the way we did. You never stopped the server owner from harrassing me and my friends. And you never stopped him from from postign that discusting thing on Twitter. If anything, you made it worse... Hope you are happy with yourself, because I will never tell people to join you guys or even visit you. I hope people come to their senses and realize you guys are toxic and not worth being with.
Sorry for the ranting guys, but I couldn’t stand people lying about this. Rev is too important to me and my friends, and we can’t have people going around and lying freely like this...
#rant#i just snapped i guess#i can't stand this situation anymore#i can't believe i used to love these people
