“Now Amazonia was in my blood.”, said #MargaretMee our #SS18 muse. She was a British Botanical illustrator and activist who went on over fifteen expeditions to the deep Amazonia to collect tropical flora and bromeliads and paint them. This season's prints and shapes such as this jumpsuit evoke a woman who is fearless, an explorer who loves to know more the world she lives in. She collects, catalogues and paints all the exotic species of medicinal herbs, bromeliads, flowers and plants she finds. But just like Margaret, she is not satisfied to drag a dying plant back to the comfort of her atelier nor to reconstruct from a dead one. Instead, she met them where they lived and painted them there, evolving a highly successful technique through trial and error, even if that would cost her life as she could be surrounded by jaguards, crocodiles, snakes, etc. Mee's later diaries documented the destruction of massive parts of the forests. Mee became a significant spokesperson for conservation of the Amazon, helping to document the devastation through her work. During the thirty years of her career, she saw Amazonia shrink from a vast wilderness to an endangered ecosystem encroached by civilization and commercial exploitation.
