Yeah it’s two difference depictions. I think Lord of the Flies is commenting on how the idea of a white savior is stupid or just not reality by showing how “uncivilized” seemingly perfect British boys can be.
At the same time, Lord of the Flies and William Golding was not innocent from being racist in his writing as we know that the n-word was edited out… in the instance where Piggy says “savages”nor “Indians” instead I believe. So still not great that in the big moment, Piggy, who is supposed to be delivering a moral message is also talking about how certain races of people are inherently more savage/uncivilized than others.
Now, I’d argue that shows Piggy is also no better than any of the other boys. They all suck. They are all part of this system that teaches/grooms British boys to think of themselves as superior. And you could also say white boys…
So, while I think that’s A BIG part of the message or the point of the story, it’s not innocent to playing into racism. I agree.
And I think there’s a lot to be said about Simon and Roger being some of the only kids described as having darker skin. Idk if I’m the person who should be saying it cuz I can’t fully speak on those experiences. But I think how they take on to very different roles in the story, being the outsider/target and the right-hand man, is interesting.
Along with what you said about Jack’s appearance being pointed hate towards Jewish and Irish people. There’s clear differences made in Piggy and the birthmark kid’s appearance as well while I think purposefully describing Ralph as the “British ideal boy” which is white, blond, golden skin, and built.
Anyway this is such a good topic and an important one in my opinion, because the Lord of the Flies was critiquing the very popular idea white people could civilize natives, while also kind of playing into it at times.
something I've been stewing on for a while now, but I need lotf fans to understand the book has some inherent racism like a lot of classics. and I feel like that's something we should be discussing more often.
of course the rampant nationalism is essential to the boys' characteristics. its part of what makes them shitty preteens. but the slurs and racist remarks that have been edited or removed in the book are part of the larger themes of savagery that are, ultimately, racist. I've discussed before some more nuanced takes like Jack's red hair connecting him to unsavory depictions of Jews/Irishmen, but there isn't much nuance to this. Lord of the Flies is a book that delves deeply into indigenous stereotypes. and when we discuss/depict this "descent into savagery" we all need to be a little more aware of that.
much love for this fandom but please be cognizant of this, especially if you're a younger fan. always be critical of the media you consume.

One of the scariest parts of woman of the hour is how the serial killer had all the “right answers”. Men very much know what to say and they’re aware of the optics and the position the patriarchy puts on women. So they know how to put on a farce. They know what we want to hear.

after SIX YEARS (!!!!) of not drawing her bc of My Shit Teenage Life I have FINALLY redesigned my fursona. she’s goth now👍
↓ sappy stuff ↓
I doubt anyone who doesn’t know me irl is even remotely familiar with kelon but she’s very special to me, a product of my very first bits of real self expression all the way back in middle school, very near n dear to my heart. I’ve been wanting to resurrect her for Years but could never really figure out How bc I hadn’t figured out Myself yet, n I think I am finally finally Finally at a point where I can confidently make her a character that actually represents me(eeeeeeeeeee :3) instead of just making her look nicer n ending up still feeling disconnected. I’m happy that I waited but I’m even happier that she’s finally back. it maybe sounds corny n dumb but I don’t think I’ve felt Whole these past 6 years without having this stupid otter to doodle in the margins of everything. welcome back kelon!
(under the cut is a comparison to her first ever reference sheet, from 2016)

haunted. haunted. haunted.
stuck.
he could never move on.
no matter what he did.
no matter what he tried.
the past is always there.
he is always there.
every moment he thinks he’s free.
he shows his face again
he’s stuck. being dragged down.
being held back
being forced to stay who he used to be.
why can’t i change
why can’t i grow.
i can’t do these things around you
you make it impossible
you’re stuck in my life I have no choice
what do i do to escape you

academic bias is so funny because you’ll be reading about the same historical event and one person is like “Despite the troubles that befell his homeland and near constant criticism of the court King Blorbo remained strong in the face of adversity” and the other one is like “after letting his people carry the brunt of his cringefail decisions Blorbo the Shitface refused to listen to any reason and continued to be a warmongering piece of shit. Also he was ugly.”

Video game I saw in a dream. It was in this low poly style like an older video game. You play as this character I think was meant to be a lamb, or maybe a weird mix of a lamb a mouse and a rabbit, (while not really looking like any of those things) and you’re running away from a wolf. Your objective is to last as long as possible before the wolf catches and eats you.
The house you’re running in is endless and bizarrely put together like most building interiors in dreams are (like the infinite toilet dream dimension on Reddit lol) the layout of the house is pretty detailed, you can stop and hide in places like closets or bins while the wolf looks for you, you can go up and down stairs and into rooms etc.
You never actually know where the wolf is or how close it is to you until it appears in your line of sight, it makes no noise and the game gives you no way of knowing where it is, and it’s pretty unpredictable it doesnt move at a consistent pace. When the wolf catches you there’s an animation showing it eating your character

So it’s Kabru right. Laios’s regent is Kabru. If anything happened to Laios, Kabru would have regency. He would have control over the kingdom. If he wanted. Because he knows how to kill people and could easily take that power for himself. But he won’t, because he likes Laios and thinks he’s a good king. But he could.
I didn’t realize Kabru had This much power. He’s essentially next-in-line until Laios produces an heir.
