FFXIV Write 2024 - Prompt 24 - Bar
âWould you put that godsdamn drink down and LOOK AT ME!?â It was more than a little uncharacteristic for Wilan to lose his temper like this, but his mounting sense of urgency was clashing violently with the relaxed atmosphere of that peaceful beach bar, cradled by the gentle waves of Costa del Solâs beach. The burly veteran, however, didnât seem to share the same urgency.
He was a Roegadyn by the name of Wheiskaet. Nowadays he was a personal guard to Gegeruju, but Wilan remembered him from before the Calamity as a member of the Company of Heroes, a group of adventurers who worked independently from Minfiliaâs organization to slay Primals. They werenât even blessed with the Echo. While he had never met them himself, he remembered one time when Nessa and he had hiked all the way to OâGhomoro to slay Titan, just to find out that by the time they got on the scene the Company of Heroes had already dealt with him.
Wheiskaet took his sweet time gulping down his ale. The more Wilan fumed, the more he seemed to enjoy testing his patience. It was only when he could see the bottom of his tankard that he so much as glanced in his direction. âOh, itâs you again.â he acknowledged him, as if he had just noticed him. âWhat was it that you wanted, again?â âTITAN!â Wilan screamed furiously, making even the bartender flinch. Wheiskaet, however, was nonplussed.
âOoohh right, rightâ he said, irritatingly drawling the words âYouâre that hotshot adventurer trying to take a shortcut to fame and glory. Wilian or something.â âWilan.â he corrected him through his teeth. âAnd look, as Iâve told you before Iâve spent the last eight years of my life adventuring, believe me Iâm not in it for the fame.â âRight.â He replied sardonically âYouâre a veteran, I can tell. No doubt many basements can claim to be free of vermin thanks to your heroic intervention. Your mother must be proud. But this is a Primal weâre talking about.â
It had only been a few weeks prior that Wilan had learned that in the wake of the Seventh Umbral Calamity the island he hailed from had been erased from the nautical maps. His mother, his brother, his father, and everyone else he had known back home were dead, victims of Bahamutâs fury. He hadnât yet allowed himself time to grieve. And now it was not the time, either. He pushed that pain back down into the depths of his soul.
âLook,â Wilan said through clenched teeth, in a considerable effort to remain calm. âIâve slayed Primals already. I know how this works.â âYou have certainly claimed so.â Wheiskaet said, slouching come comfortably on his stool, with the face of somebody getting ready to enjoy a performance. âIfrit, was it?â âAnd Garuda.â Wilan growled in response. âAnd King Moggle Mog the Twelfth.â The Roegadyn snorted. âYouâve made that moogle one up, didnât you?â He turned around to loudly laugh with the barman, who awkwardly joined him. He became serious all of a sudden though, leaned forward and inquired. âAs for Garuda, well... thatâs an interesting tale. Iâve heard no reports of the Ixali attempting a summoning.â âNot recently, you idiot. A couple yeaââ he caught himself as he was saying it. âI mean, some seven years ago.â Wheiskaet lifted an eyebrow, as if he had heard a really good joke. âSeven years ago? But I thought you have been an adventurer for eight? What, you claimed a victory on the Lady of the Vortex in your teens?â âŚGods damn it, Louisoix.
Granted, he could have told him about being at the battle of Cartenau Flats, the day Dalamud Fell. He could have told him how Louisoix Leveilleur invoked the power of Althyk to spare him certain death. And he could have told him of how he was propelled five years forward in time from that fateful moment. Somehow, though, he felt like saying the truth was going to make Wheiskaet even less likely to believe him. Still, Gods above, this condition had been nothing but traumatic so far. Before today it never felt so... utterly infuriating.
âLook, all I need to know is how to reach Titanâs lair. Instead, all youâve done is sending me on foolâs errand after foolâs errand, running me ragged, all while peopleâs lives are at stake! What the fuck is wrong with you!?â At this, Wheiskaet stood up, his Roegadyn build towering over Wilanâs. âAye. Peopleâs lives are at stake. Including yours.â he growled, his voice sounding more serious than it had their entire conversation. âIâm not going to send some untrained fool to die under the heel of the Lord of Crags.â âUntrainedââ Wilanâs blood started to boil. âWho the fuck are you calling an untrained fool!? I was part of the raid to take Castrum Novum!â He screamed confrontationally, pointing a thumb at his own chest. âI joined the Grand Companiesâ operation in Rivenroad!â One step forward, his voice rising even louder, his eyes screaming bloody murder. âI killed Nael van Darnus myself!â
Wheiskaet regarded him with his arms crossed, never backing down a single step, waiting for him to finish his speech. Only then, with a smirk, he said: âIf youâre such a big deal, how come Iâve never heard of you?â
Wilan choked a frustrated scream into his hands.

you really have a gift when it comes to writing!
exestolovers! with mason, set after england comes back home after getting eliminated. mason is on the readerâs doorstep in the rain waiting for her to come back home.
she comes home but sheâs with another guy (her co worker or something) and mason is all like iâm sorry iâll leave you two. she stops him is like hey no come in and thanks her her co worker for walking her home. then in her house his word vomiting his disappointment and sadness to her because sheâs truly the only person he can be vulnerable with. then mason asks if they can give them another try â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸đĽšđĽšđĽ°đĽ°
another shot
pairing: Mason Mount x Reader
TW: none
A/N: thank you so much anon! i genuinely enjoy writing so much. iâm 90% sure the layout of this fic is messed up, but i am working on fixing the issue
He sat on the couch on your porch, waiting for you to arrive home so he could speak to you. His hair was disheveled, dark bags forming under his eyes as the rain poured down heavily, exhaustion written all over his face.
A few more minutes pass and he finally sees you walking into your yard, but you were wrapped up in conversation with your coworker who'd offered to walk you home since it was raining. You were laughing and smiling, two of the many things Mason loved about you, but you were doing those things because of someone else. Someone who wasn't Mason.
Mason stood up, the sight of you and another man immediately making him rethink his decision to come here.
"I'm sorry, I'll leave you two-" Mason shows a small smile before grabbing his umbrella and walking towards his car. A hand on his arm stopped him.
"No no, you're fine. Come in" You smiled before thanking your coworker and unlocking your front door.
From the moment Mason stepped inside, he felt like he was back at home. The smell of your favorite candle (that you always repurchased because you couldn't get enough of it) filled the air upon entry, causing a smile to form on his face.
âWould you like some tea?â You offered kindly as you walked around the kitchen. Mason shook his head before sitting on one of the bar stools you had set up at the island.
âSo, you & himâŚâ Mason started before you interjected.
âJust friends, Mase. He was walking me home because my car has been at the shop all week and he wanted to make sure I got home safely. Thatâs all. No need to go into âjealous ex boyfriendâ modeâ You jokes as you put your kettle on the stove, leaving Mason silent as he kept his gaze focused on the countertop in-front of him.
âSorry about the elimination, by the wayâ Mason lifted his head to look at you, clearly in shock that you watched the game.
âYou watched it?â He asked as you nodded.
âNever stopped. You know I was a fan of the sport before you & I even got togetherâ You smiled at your ex. Even after months of grief, you could never bring yourself to hate the man in-front of you, despite how badly heâd broken your heart a few months ago.
âWhy are you here, Mason?â You inquired as Mason sighed.
âI miss youâ He blurted out. Before you could respond, he spoke again.
âI was such a dick to you, Y/n. I thought that I needed to be alone and focus on football for a bit, but I couldnât have been more wrong. You donât know how much Iâve cried over my stupid decision to leave you, and I know you mustâve cried much more than I did, and Iâm truly sorry for what I put you throughâ
âWow uhm- that was certainly unexpectedâ You let out a laugh, but immediately frowned upon seeing Masonâs look. He was being serious.
âI accept your apology, Mase. I hope you know I couldnât never find it within myself to hate you for what you did to meâ
âWhyâd you let me in?â He asked.
âLike I said, I canât hate you, so thereâs no bad blood on my end, so us talking wasnât an issue for me. Plus it was pouring outside and you looked coldâ Mason laughed as you said the last sentence.
"If you want, maybe we could this another shot?" He said as he gestured between the two of you, to which you nodded.
"I'd really like that, Mase" You smiled as Mason got up from his seat and made his way towards you, bringing you into his warm embrace.
You really missed this. This is what you'd been waiting for the second you broke up, and you finally had him back.

đ¸ď¸ Got inspired by @bennythespaceman1984 to figure out GCBC's apartment. Took a few scrapped sketches for me to realize I am no designer so I ended up just yoinking this off a site full of floor plans. Only difference is that they have a sliding glass door to their balcony.
Their apartment is on the top floor so they have a skylight. It's positioned kind of in the middle between the kitchen and living room, and is surprisingly large so there's plenty of natural light between it and the balcony doors. The walls throughout the apartment are painted an ivory color, so it's nice and bright and tinted just warm enough it doesn't feel sterile. The floors in the kitchen, bathroom, and utility room are stone tiles. The living room and bedroom have beige carpeting.
They don't really have much for decorations or furniture, as it's just them living there and they rarely have guests. There are several photos of their parents, or them with their parents, mounted on the walls in the living room though, and a few of Good Cop's favorite knick knacks that have survived Bad Cop's cleaning frenzies. Their kitchen island doubles as a bar, so instead of a dining table they just use it to eat on and have a pair of stools on one side. There is an entertainment center against the wall shared with the bedroom, with an LED tv mounted on the wall. A couch sits against the opposite wall facing it, and they have a papasan chair with a tea table next to it positioned to look out over their balcony and into the nearby park. Their computer desk is tucked in the corner near the dishwasher.
A handful of houseplants are scattered around the space as well. There is one singular painting mounted on the wall above their couch. (It's an oil painting of a woodsy scene in autumn. The previous owner was a clever and talented individual who had painted a scene from The Princess Bride into it. Bad Cop laughed himself silly when they saw it so Good Cop brought it home.)

<<part 1 - part 3>> sweetest devotion masterlist here
despite his initial reluctance and annoyed mumbles, Serena managed to sit Mason down for a little longer. long enough to cover the basic terms of communication between them, because Mason was rightâthey at least needed to know each other's whereabouts in case the palace dropped sudden calls.
Serena, specifically, asked Mason to tell her if he's going over to his lover's house. in her defence, it was in order to prepare some cover-ups for Mason, no matter how bitter her tongue tasted as she spitted out the lies she'd cooked beforehand.
it was what you have agreed on, she thought inwardly after placing down her phone, done with another weekly check from the palace. ever since Masonâs private location were almost scandalised, the palace scheduled a weekly check if their good reputation wasnât on the verge of being tarnished while promising a sudden call, should they see the condition fitâwhatever the condition was.
Serena sent out a text to Mason, reminding him to be carefulâwhich was the firstâand of a banquet they needed to attend on behalf of the Eldorran palace in two weeks, as well as the information of the next doctor's appointment the following morning, should the footballer want to come.Â
the same text was what ticked something at the back of Mason's mind. it niggled him, more so than any other time he received texts from Serena, that he had to scroll up their conversation window.Â
Mason realised, after almost two full weeks now since they'd come to a truce to at least inform each other about their in-and-outs, that it was mostly him telling where he was going.
out of all things they'd exchanged one another, Serena only went out of the house a grand total of five times. those outings were also for shopping purposesânot even luxury shopping, but grocery shopping.
why she did that when Mason had hired a staff to take care of basic, simplistic errands was certainly intriguing, but at the end Mason decided to go against his instinct because why does he care?
unless it's of an urgent matter, he didn't care and he didn't want to care. he shouldn't care. they were strangers to begin with, and that was what they would end up as, unless where their child was concerned.
still, finding Serena unmoving from the kitchen stool, every time he passed down the living hall whenever he was home for some fresh linens, unnerved him all the same.Â
âYou're not going anywhere?â
Serena was honestly more used to being ignored while she scribbled somethingâthe homemade recipes she magically managed to pull off from countless trials and errors, which lately was her hobbyâin the kitchen whenever Mason was around only long enough for a cup of tea. So she looked up from her notepad, making sure she wasn't mishearing, and Mason couldn't help but feel weirded out because did I do something wrong?
âno, I do not have a place to go,â Serena gathered her stationery, realising they were all over the place. âBar the monthly doctor visits.â
I must've done something wrong or else why would Serena tidy up the kitchen island?
âwhat about your study?â
the kettle made a whistling noise behind Serena's back. the woman stood up immediately and rushed for the brewing water. two of them? is she expecting me to stay over?
is she always like this whenever I come over?
âtea, perhaps, Mason?â albeit awkward, Serena offered him a small smile as she poured down the hot liquid. âto answer your queryâit's been postponed.â
âwhy?â
âwould you prefer the real reason or the one the palace releases?â
âboth, if you can,â for some unbeknownst reason, Mason sat down this time. Serena had to hide her surprise behind her indifferent mask, the way she was raised. âmay I?â
âthis is your home, Mason,â Serena was merely stating a fact but somehow it kicked something inside of him. âitâs me that is rather intruding your space, no?â
Mason hissed at the first sip. he felt as if he was scolded by the scalding liquid.
âformally so I can focus on my pregnancy,â thankfully, the princess didnât notice his discomfort and went ahead to gently shove his cup towards his direction. âbut we all can agree that it would give them a bad look, would it not?â
everyone and their mothers could say that footballers are stupid people, having not gone through a normal formal education, but it didn't necessarily mean they were fools. Mason immediately caught on the implied meaning between Serena's line.
going around would jeopardise her life and would mean the opposite to the initial purpose of their marriage, which was to hide the fact that Serena was pregnant out of wedlock and to avoid being executed for that so-called mistake.
âhow about having friends over?â
âMason,â Serena sighed, a bitter smile making its way to her face. âyouâre the closest thing I have to a friend.â
Mason couldnât hide his surprise at her admission. despite being drunk, Mason did remember that she went to the club that eventful night where he was at, the night that led to their situation now, with so many people in tow. âdidnât you have so many friends when going to the club?â
bitter smile still intact, Serena looked up this time and levelled Masonâs gaze. âwelcome to the lonely life of a princess, Mason Mount.â
âis that why you prepare 2 cups earlier, then?â
Serena's smile was still intact but her eyes had shifted the awkwardness somewhere else, now they were replaced by embarrassment, the emotion obviously present from the pinkish tinge on her cheeks.
ďźâżââââżďźďźâżââââżďźďźâżââââżďź
wishing Mason to stay over equaled wishing for the stars, so when Mason got up to go back to his girlfriend's house, Serena didn't waste more time to come back to reality.
she went on to tidying up the big mansion after finishing up her recipe of the day scribbles, then she made sure she'd left some portion of the dish for Mason, wrapping the plate with a foil so he wouldn't have a hard time heating them up if he felt like eating anytime he was home.Â
none of the activities she did to pass up time in this humongous place was something of her routineâshe was a princess, for God's sake. the palace might've enrolled her to basic life skills but that didn't mean she should be doing all this. Mason even had hired a helper for her but she let her go after the first week because Serena needed something to do while everything and everyone left her behind.
the only thing that kept her straying away from death caused by boredom was the thought of meeting her little one every month.
âit's just you and me, my love,â Serena liked to whisper against the cold air as she stroked the forming bump. up and down, up and downâjust like her life, ironically. âyou won't leave me alone, will you?â
just when she thought she was going to the doctor aloneâlike her usual daysâthe next day, Serena woke up to find Mason already sitting on the kitchen stool, stirring his morning coffee.
âMason,â Serena couldnât hide her surprise and she could only thank the heavens because if the palaceâs head of PR was around, she wouldâve spanked Serena by the butt for letting an emotion slip out of her. youâre back early.â
Serenaâs voice surprised Mason, too, in all honesty because he didnât think. he didnât think when he woke up this morning, he didnât think when he drove to his house, he didnât think when he boiled his morning coffee. he didnât even think heâd stay this longâlong enough until Serena woke up and found him back in the house.
he didnât know how to respond to Serenaâs reaction to finding him here, in the kitchen and supposedly her sanctuary, so he didnât. it wasnât like he owed her anything to say.
besides the fact that she was naturally a woman of little words, Serena didnât mind the silence that followed after. she immersed herself in her daily routine, putting Masonâs presence to the back of her mind.
as she said yesterday, this house still belonged to Mason so the footballer could do anything he pleased. theyâd only agreed letting her stay in this house for a façade, but if he wanted her out of here as soon as possible because he wanted her lover living here with him instead, she would do as he asked.
but Mason was the complete opposite. born an extrovert, he couldnât stand the silence. âyouâre going to the doctor today, right?â
âyes,â Mason watched as she navigated her way around the kitchen like a natural. so natural he didnât notice the slight surprise displayed ghostly across her eyebrows because Mason had never asked about the child. not as far as she could recall anyway. âwhaââ
âhow far along exactly are you?â
his tone might still be clipped and his gaze indicated he would pretty much prefer somewhere else. Why isnât he? Surely heâs not here because I implicitly told him I was pretty much lonely yesterdayâŚ
âentering five months today,â Serena answered and Mason concluded the woman had a dangerous knack to make his heart drop at every one of her revelations. had he been away that long? âIâm finding out the gender of the baby later.â
âcan I come?â
âhowever put later on, this child is as yours as it is mine, Mason.â
Serenaâs answer eased off something inside Mason because while her words were true, he didnât want to come off as breaching her space. that was the least he could do when sheâd been nothing but⌠civil and fair, for the lack of words, about the life he was living outside this house.
âyou know I can always send the ultrasound to you so you donât have to come,â Serena said as they waited side by side outside the doctorâs office. âIâm sure youâre busy.â
Mason didnât want to jump ahead and conclude things himself but if he read the lines correctly, she was abashedly touching on the topic of her own shocking admittance. heâd like to clarify that he didnât do any of this because she was feeling lonelyâshe knew what and where she was getting herself intoâand that he was here because he truly wanted to see his own flesh and blood, which unfortunately could only happen whenever the expert physician was involved, but he decided against it because it wasnât his place to explain anything the same way she didnât have to explain explicitly why sheâd always kept a pair of cups on the table.
âno,â Mason firmly responded, shaking his head. âI want to see how heâs doing.â
âyou sound so sure itâs a him,â Serena spoke up again after minutes of silence between them. âwhat are you going to do if itâs a her?â
âhumour me,â Mason glanced towards Serena, intending to confirm his suspicion, only to find her eyes were covered with teasing glint. he chuckled at sight. âiâve always wanted to have a boy to play football with.â
âare you saying she canât play balls?â the woman was now the one throwing a glance in his direction. âwith a father like you, she might be the next Sam Kerr, you know.â
Mason certainly didnât expect her to know bits about football, especially about the womenâs utterly skilled players that went under the radar because theyâre simply women sometimes. âare you a fan of Chelsea or something that I donât know of?â
âyouâd be surprised I used to aspire to be a footballer if the occupation wasnât deemed too dangerous for a princess,â and that was Serenaâs genuine smile, to which Mason couldnât help but smile back her way. that was also not the answer he was expecting from Serena, the well-known calm princess dubbed as calm beauty.
well, to be fair, Mason hardly knew whom she was marrying from the beginning.
but exactly at that moment, when Mason was about to banter Serena back, his phone rang. he pulled the electronic device out and saw his loverâs name splashed across the screen, the same time the nurse called for Serenaâs turn.
the air now shifted back to a very awkward atmosphere.
âwhy aren't you answering that?â Serena commented when she noticed he put back his phone to his pocket. not because she was curious, but because it was out of place.
mason would go to the moon and back for that woman, there was no possible reason as to why he turned that thing off.
âshe can waitââ
nope, she couldn't.
âyou should take that,â Serena said after a full five seconds of not knowing how to handle it, both of them. âjoin us inside when youâre done.â
but he never did, and Serena, with the ultrasound already printed out in her hands, went out of the doctorâs office only to find Mason no longer occupying the ugly plastic chair.
we all know where he was headed.
next chapter contains:
âjaz,â and the closest sibling to Mason in terms of age, halted her steps away from him. âhow do you know?â
âyou reek of cheap perfume, Mase.â

May 21: Braven, Loft
Bellamy/Raven, ~800 words, in the same universe as this Clarktavia fic.
I wanted to write more in this 'verse and also do some more description practice. I don't like it as much as the other one but, eh, it's something. It's good practice.
*
Bellamy takes over the lease at the tail end of a chilly, wet winter, that part of the season where only certain sunny and bright afternoons feel like spring. At the time, he and Raven are still just friends. Friends who've slept with each other--twice--plus one additional half-time that does not count. They've never lived together, but he knows that she's a morning person, that she's messy, that she never likes to be idle, and so she tends to keep her projects always within arm's reach. He knows she'll sell most of her furniture, because "it's all junk anyway," but bring with her an extensive collection of CDs and a gleaming silver stereo system. He doesn't know if she can cook, but he can, so it's fine. She likes the way he makes omelettes, and scramble eggs with tomato slices on the side, and she has what his mother would call an adventurous palette. That means she's down to try anything, even Filipino dishes whose names she can't pronounce.
She's looking for a place closer to the auto shop and he'll need help with the rent, plus the loft is too big for him anyway. He invites her to take a look at the space. She doesn't say anything, but her eyes flick across the room with curiosity: the gray brick walls and scarred wood floor still shadowed from the gloomy pale-gray of the sky beyond the windows, all the lights off, and most of Kane's old furnishings still in place. He liked leather and steel. There's a TV mounted on the wall between the middle two windows, and a dying plant in the corner, shedding leaves.
She doesn't say anything, and Bellamy can't read the expression on her face. He tells her it'll look different with all of the furniture gone, and reminds her it's a steal for its price: in no other part of town could you find a place this big for rent so low. She says he sounds like a real estate agent, and asks what he needs her to sign.
The TV stays, but the sleek black couch is replaced with a pull out upholstered in worn green corduroy, two overstuffed chairs that don't match, and a large red beanbag, all arrayed around a low wood coffee table, almost perfectly square. Raven sets up her stereo where the dead plant used to be. They curtain off an area near the bathroom for storage, and use bookshelves to create the illusion of rooms. Shelves next to the TV, below the windows, and shelves around the living area, to separate it from the dining area, which is mostly Raven's work table, because they usually eat in the kitchen or sometimes with one of them in the beanbag and the other on the floor. The kitchen is set off in the corner closest to the door: a square space defined by wooden countertops and steel appliances, an island at which they place tall bar stools.
Along the right wall runs a sort of raised stage, which functions as the bedroom: there's no way around it but to share. From a friend of a friend, they acquire a queen-sized mattress and a simple bed frame to rest it on: deep mahogany, with a square headboard. Raven creates a closet for them out of a suspension bar, crates, and several hanging closet organizers, all hidden behind a polka dot shower curtain, discolored at the bottom edge. They use bookshelves as bedside tables. They agree without debate that Raven will take the left side of the bed and Bellamy the right.
He stays up late the first night, wondering if he should have volunteered to take the pull out bed from the couch. But it would be a pain to have to set the thing up every night and then fold it away every morning again. And Raven doesn't care for chivalry, especially when she thinks it's false. Don't be a hero, she'd probably say, or maybe she'd just snort and tell him don't be dumb.
There's a window just beyond his side of the bed, and ambient streetlight shines up through it, the light pollution of the city in yellows and silver and neon. He turns on his side toward it, his back to her, and closes his eyes. He'll have to get some curtains, something--but also better lights, a couple standing lamps for the bedroom or something to put on his bedside table--something to read by--he can see imprints of light on the backs of his eyelids. He can hear Raven breathing quietly next to him. He imagines he feels the warmth of her, trapped with the warmth of him under the covers. She feels miles away, and so unbearably close.

Sweater
The party was mostly an excuse to get Sokka out of his room and into different clothes. His break-up with Ash had been hard, it practically destroyed him. He wouldn't leave his bed for days at a time except to use the restroom and he wouldn't eat unless someone brought him food. At some points, it starts to get pretty pathetic, but whenever anyone looks him in the eye, they can see just how deep this heartbreak is and the sympathy comes rushing back.Â
So Katara devised the plan to throw a party with alcohol- lots of alcohol- to help boost him out of this slump and hopefully start the process of getting him back on his feet. She invited all the usual people and then told them to invite at least 5 people of their own, so this was going to to be a big party.Â
"Are you sure this is actually going to work though?" Aang questions her as he walks in the front door behind her carrying an armful of groceries. "I mean, we started smoking weed in the living room yesterday and he didn't even come out for that. Just texted one of us to bring it to him."
"I don't know. I don't really know what else to do for him. It's getting to the point where I'm thinking of calling reinforcements," Katara grumbles and starts pulling out bags of chips and two-liter drinks. They finish unpacking the groceries for the party and set up the kitchen island with everything that will be needed for the night: red solo cups, their many assortments of shot glasses from all their vacations, bowls of chips, rolling papers, and pretty much anything a bunch of drunk and/or high college kids would need. Aang even found a few chargers that he plugged into the wall and made a sign advertising a charging station if they do a body shot off someone.Â
An hour later, Zuko arrives with Toph in tow, both of them looking aggravated at the fact of having to do a party and socialize. "Don't get me wrong, a bunch of drunk and stupid college kids is fun to fuck with, but I can do that any day of the week if I go to the right frat house. Why do we have to do it the night before I have to be up early for a presentation at my dad's company?" No one really offers her a reason as to why it had to be tonight so she huffs out a breath and takes a seat at one of the bar stools.Â
"Here, I got you a Dr. Pepper, maybe this will appease the monster in you," Aang walks over and places the drink in front of her, and kisses the top of her head. She leans into him slightly as he does this, closing her eyes briefly to soak in his affection.Â
"Dr. Pepper will do nothing to save you, peasants," she grumbles as she opens the drink. After taking a few sips, she mumbles, "Maybe it will, I don't know, the night is still young."
"Where is he?" Zuko asks.Â
"Where he's been for the past month. Go see if he will get up, will you?" Katara gestures towards the hallway that leads down to his bedroom.Â
"Urgh, why do I always have to do it?" Zuko groans under his breath. He hears something about him possibly seeing Sokka naked but chooses to ignore it. He walks down the hallways and pushes open the door to Sokka's room. Just like the last time he was here earlier this week, there are still clothes strewn about the floor, a random Netflix documentary is playing on the tv that's mounted on the wall, and Sokka is laying twisted in his sheets. He's on his stomach with one of his arms hanging off the bed rolling a tennis ball back and forth on the floor with his hand.Â
"Hey, dude," Zuko says, pushing through the door and walking over to the bed. He moves Sokka's feet over and plops down in the spot they just occupied. "You going to get up today?"
"Yeah," Sokka says unconvincingly. It's the same answer he's given anyone who has asked him that question, so Zuko doesn't take the response seriously. He watches the documentary as a cheeta attempts to take down some animal. The show really spared no gory detail as they get in close for a shot of the takedown.Â
"As fun as watching that animal get totally annihilated, you actually have to get up today," Zuko says, looking away from the tv and over towards Sokka who hasn't moved an inch. He doesn't say anything, just continues to roll the ball on the ground.Â
Huffing out a sigh, Zuko scoots to the side of the bed that is against the wall and places his feet against Sokka, one near his armpit and the other on his hip, and bracing against the wall, pushes Sokka off the bed and onto the floor.Â
"Oomph," Zuko hears the wind get knocked out of Sokka and a little strangled cough, "What the fuck, dude!" Sokka yells from the floor.Â
"You have to get up! We're having a party tonight, what if someone needs your bed?" Zuko yells back and scoots off the bed. He bends down and helps Sokka up with a hand under one of his arms. "You're fine, you've survived through worse," Zuko says with a little amusement in his tone.Â
Toph appears in the door frame, her sightless eyes staring straight past Sokka and Zuko and out towards the window. "Katara sent me down here to see if you guys were fucking and if that's what that noise was for."
"Dude-" Zuko starts.Â
"Why does everyone insist that I'm gay?" Sokka cuts him off.Â
Toph snorts and mumbles a 'whatever' and walks back towards the kitchen. "No one is insisting that you're gay, Sokka. We all know that that's my thing. The group couldn't handle more than one gay," he says, trying to lift the mood.Â
Sokka lets out a long breath, still not looking at Zuko. He shakes his head a little as if to clear some thoughts, "I guess I'll go take a shower since I'm up." He grabs a towel from his closet and then walks out of his room and towards the bathroom across the hall.Â
Zuko chews on his lip and stands in Sokka's room for a bit. The truth is, everyone is pushing at Sokka being gay because of Zuko's overwhelming and completely obvious crush he has on the guy. Zuko's tried multiple times to get the group to lay off of it lest Sokka finds out, but none of them seem to want to let it go. Even Aang, the nicest and most diplomatic of them all sometimes hint at the fact that he and Sokka are practically dating.Â
He leaves Sokka's room and walks back into the kitchen where a couple more people have shown up. The actual party doesn't start for a few more hours, but leave it to Yue and Azula to show up early to help with preparations and whatever else they seem to think they will miss out on if they're not here.Â
When he rejoins the group, they're talking about Sokka (shocker) and his current mental health status (also, shocker). "I think he really just needs to get out of his room for a while, see that there are still people out in the world," Aang comments quietly.Â
"Right, but is a party really the best way to do that? Wouldn't a walk through a park accomplish the same thing?" Toph counters, which is weird because she's never been one to turn down a party.Â
"I think the alcohol and chance to 'forget' is appealing," Katara forms air quotes around the word forget. "I swear though if anyone tries to hit on him, especially in the state that he is in right now-"
"No one is going to do that," Yue interjects. "You take one look at the guy and can tell he is shattered." She glances at Zuko as if asking permission, but he doesn't know what for, "I just want to know what she did to him that destroyed him so much." Oh. That.Â
Everyone is quiet for a minute but no one offers up any explanation as to why Ash and Sokka broke up. Naturally, people do look at Zuko for those kinds of answers since he and Sokka share practically everything, but this is a first for him not knowing what the fuck happened.Â
Zuko shrugs, "I don't know. No one does. At this point, I'm a little afraid to find out."
~~~
The shower has been off for about an hour now and they have about another hour until people actually start showing up and Sokka is still nowhere to be seen. Katara shoots a glance at Zuko. Dropping his head onto the back of the couch where he is sitting, he lets out a complaining groan but still, he gets up and trudges back towards Sokka's room.Â
When he walks in, Sokka is dressed in actual clothes but is just sitting on the bed starting at a little figurine in his hands. He's twisting it over and over, completely transfixed on it, he doesn't even look up when Zuko walks in.Â
Zuko moves towards Sokka and nudges him with his knee, "Hey," he says quietly. Sokka jerks his head slightly to acknowledge that Zuko's there and that he's talking. "Party is about to start. You ready?"Â
Sokka finally looks up at him, squinting a little as if he is looking at something bright, "Yeah. Yeah, let's get this-" he stops and frowns, taking in Zuko's outfit. "You're wearing that?"
The frown shifts from Sokka to Zuko as he looks down at himself. He's wearing his navy blue sweater, ripped black skinny jeans, and Doc Martens. "Yeah? What's wrong with it?"
Sokka doesn't say anything, just stands and goes over to his closet. He flips through a few hangers and pulls out a shirt or sweatshirt every so often before hanging it back up. Finally, he pulls out a dark maroon sweater, similar to the one he is wearing. "Here, wear this."
Zuko rolls his eyes but pulls his current sweater over his head and tosses it somewhere in the room before taking the maroon sweater out of Sokka's offered hand. Maybe it's just Zuko's wanting brain or maybe he's wishing for it to be true, but he swears that Sokka's eyes stay on his chest just a little longer than necessary.Â
He pulls on the maroon sweater over his head and is immediately engulfed in the smell of Sokka. Pulling it down and straightening it out, he glances back up at Sokka and sees just a hint of a smile on his face, "Yeah, that looks better. Why is it that that sweater looks better on you than it does me? That's just not right," but he claps a hand on Zuko's shoulder and walks past him out of his room.Â
When both of them emerge into the living room, there's a small cheer that goes up around the friend group. Red solo cups filled with something are immediately placed in both of their hands. Just in the five minutes, he was in Sokka's room, the occupancy of the living room has doubled in size.Â
Sokka is sitting on the other side of the couch, cradling a bottle of vodka to his chest. Zuko can feel his eyes on him as he continues to play Brick Breaker on his phone. Personally, he's reached his limit with the socializing and his introvert battery needs to be recharged, so he is over here avoiding everyone. Zuko's legs are up on the couch with him, both of them bent at the knee so he can rest his arms against them while he furiously taps at the screen of his phone.Â
Zuko feels Sokka shift until one of his feet is nudging his own, trying to get his attention. He only glances up before quickly looking back down at the screen. He's so close to beating his high score, if he can just get past...
Out of the corner of his eye, he notices that Sokka places the bottle of vodka down on the floor in front of the couch and sits up. Zuko glances at him again and sees that Sokka's eyes are trained on Zuko's hands. He looks back at the phone and lets out a quiet gasp. He almost screwed up, he needs to focus, he can't get distrac-
A shadow goes across his phone and lap and without thinking, Zuko looks up. Sokka is hovering right over his lap. Some part of his mind registers the fact that he can hear the game over tune from his phone, but he can't really bring himself to care when Sokka is looking at him like that. One of Zuko's legs drops down to the floor and the other falls against the back of the couch so that Sokka is practically kneeling between his legs.Â
"What are you doing?" Sokka slurs. He looks into Zuko's eyes and he can feel his breath start to shake as Sokka continues to stare.Â
"N-nothing. What are you doing, Sokka?" he asks, his voice wobbling just a little. Zuko glances off to the side to where he knows Katara is sitting and prays to any and every god that she doesn't look over. She became obsessively protective over Sokka because of his breakup with Ash and she even said before the party-
Sokka lifts one of his hands and traces Zuko's jaw with the tip of his finger, pulling his gaze from Katara back to him. "Just wanted to see what you were doing," he whispers. Sokka's eyes drop down to his lips and he moves the finger from Zuko's jaw to his lips and traces the bottom one gently. Sokka's own tongue flicks out to wet his lips before flitting his eyes upwards to meet Zuko's. He can feel the hand that isn't touching his face move so that it's pressed into the couch next to Zuko's hip. "You have really pretty eyes, did you know that?" Sokka asks, shifting even closer to him until he is just a breath away.Â
Is Zuko fucking dreaming right now? Is he in some porno that he doesn't remember turning on? He has Sokka in his fucking lap giving him those eyes and acting like he is going to kiss him and more. He must be in a coma or something because there is no actual way this is about to happen.Â
"No, I didn't know that," Zuko mumbles, swallowing hard. Sokka presses in even closer and Zuko's eyes flutter shut at his closeness.Â
Sokka hums in his throat and just barely brushes against him when he is suddenly ripped away. Zuko's eyes instantly fly open and he is met with the sight of a very angry Katara standing over him.
Choosing the Perfect Interior Furniture for Every Room in Your House
Selecting the right interior furniture for your home is more than just choosing items that look good; itâs about creating a space that reflects your personality, meets your functional needs, and brings comfort to your everyday life. Whether youâre furnishing a new home or updating your current space, working with an experienced Interior Furniture Company in Dubai can help you find the perfect pieces for every room. This blog will guide you through choosing the ideal furniture for each area of your home, ensuring that every space is both beautiful and functional.
1. Living Room: The Heart of Your Home
The living room is often the most used space in the house, making it essential to choose furniture that is both comfortable and stylish. Start with a high-quality sofa that provides ample seating for family and guests. Consider the size of your living room when selecting a sofaâtoo large, and it can overwhelm the space; too small, and it may not provide the comfort you need.
Complement your sofa with a couple of accent chairs or a loveseat for additional seating. Coffee tables, side tables, and media consoles should be functional and match the overall style of the room. If your living room has a focal point, such as a fireplace or large windows, arrange the furniture to enhance this feature.
2. Dining Room: A Space for Gathering
The dining room is where family and friends come together to share meals and create memories. The dining table is the centerpiece of this room, so choose one that suits your needs. Rectangular tables are great for larger spaces, while round or oval tables work well in smaller rooms.
Consider the material and style of the tableâwood is a classic choice, but glass and metal can add a modern touch. Pair the table with comfortable dining chairs that complement the design. If space allows, add a sideboard or buffet to store dining essentials and display decorative items.
3. Bedroom: Your Personal Sanctuary
Your bedroom should be a peaceful retreat where you can relax and unwind. The bed is the most important piece of furniture in this room, so invest in one that is both comfortable and visually appealing. Choose a bed frame that matches the overall style of the room, whether itâs a sleek modern design or a more traditional look.
Nightstands are essential for keeping essentials like books, lamps, and electronics within reach. A dresser or wardrobe is also necessary for storage, so select one that offers enough space and complements the bed. Consider adding a cozy chair or bench to create a reading nook or a place to put on your shoes.
4. Home Office: A Productive Environment
With more people working from home, creating a functional home office is essential. Start with a desk that suits your work style. If you need a lot of surface area, choose a larger desk, but if space is limited, a compact desk or wall-mounted option might be best.
Comfortable seating is crucial for productivity, so invest in an ergonomic chair that provides support during long work hours. Add storage solutions like bookcases or filing cabinets to keep your workspace organized. Donât forget to personalize your office with artwork or decorative items that inspire creativity.
5. Kitchen: Functional and Stylish
The kitchen is a functional space, but that doesnât mean it canât be stylish. Choose kitchen furniture that maximizes storage and workspace. If you have the space, consider adding an island or breakfast bar for additional seating and prep areas.
Stools or chairs for the island should be comfortable and match the overall kitchen design. Consider open shelving or a hutch to display dishes, cookbooks, or decorative items. If youâre working with a smaller kitchen, focus on multi-functional furniture that saves space while still offering style and convenience.
6. Outdoor Spaces: Extend Your Living Area
Donât forget about your outdoor spaces when selecting interior furniture. Outdoor furniture should be durable, weather-resistant, and comfortable. Start with seating options like lounge chairs, sofas, or a dining set, depending on how you plan to use the space.
Consider adding an outdoor rug, lighting, and decorative elements to make the space feel like an extension of your home. When choosing materials, opt for those that can withstand the elements, such as teak, aluminum, or synthetic wicker.
Conclusion
Choosing the perfect interior furniture for every room in your house is an exciting journey that requires careful consideration of style, functionality, and comfort. By working with a reputable Glass Manufacturer in Dubai, you can find the right pieces that not only enhance the beauty of your home but also meet your practical needs.
In addition to selecting the right furniture, consider incorporating elements from other specialized manufacturers to complete your homeâs look. For example, a Glass Manufacturer in Dubai can provide custom glass pieces that add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your space. By thoughtfully curating each room, youâll create a home that is truly your own, reflecting your personal style and making everyday living a pleasure.
Island Countertop
When it comes to designing a functional and stylish kitchen, the island countertop often takes center stage. This crucial element not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen but also serves as a versatile workspace for cooking, dining, and socializing. One of the key considerations in building a sturdy and durable island countertop is the use of steel brackets. In this article, we will delve into the reasons why steel brackets are an excellent choice for supporting and enhancing your island countertop.
Benefits of Steel Brackets for Island Countertops
1. Strength and Durability
Steel brackets are renowned for their exceptional strength and durability. When properly installed, they provide robust support to the countertop, ensuring it can withstand the weight of heavy appliances, dishes, and constant use. Unlike other materials, steel is resistant to warping and bending, making it a reliable choice for long-term support.
2. Enhanced Stability
A stable countertop is essential for safe food preparation and enjoyable gatherings in the kitchen. Steel brackets contribute significantly to the stability of the island countertop, minimizing any risk of sagging or movement over time. This stability is crucial, especially for larger countertops or those designed to accommodate seating areas.
3. Versatility in Design
Steel brackets come in various shapes, sizes, and finishes, offering versatility in design options for your island countertop. Whether you prefer a sleek, minimalist look or a more industrial aesthetic, there are steel bracket designs to complement any kitchen style. Some brackets are even designed to be hidden within the countertop, providing a seamless appearance while maintaining structural integrity.
4. Support for Overhangs
Many island countertops feature overhangs that extend beyond the base cabinets to accommodate bar stools or provide additional workspace. Steel brackets are engineered to support these overhangs effectively, ensuring they remain stable and safe for daily use. This support is critical for preventing potential accidents and ensuring the longevity of your countertop.
5. Ease of Installation
Installing steel brackets is typically straightforward, especially when done by a professional. They can be securely mounted to both the island structure and the countertop material, ensuring a solid connection that withstands the test of time. Proper installation not only enhances the functionality of your island but also reduces maintenance requirements in the future.
6. Maintenance and Longevity
Steel brackets require minimal maintenance once installed. They are resistant to corrosion and damage, making them ideal for environments prone to moisture and frequent cleaning, such as kitchens. Unlike wood or other materials, steel brackets do not require refinishing or replacement over time, further adding to their longevity and cost-effectiveness.
Considerations When Choosing Steel Brackets
1. Weight Capacity
Before selecting steel brackets for your island countertop, consider the weight capacity they can support. This depends on the size of your countertop, the materials used, and any additional features such as built-in appliances or heavy decorative elements.
2. Design Compatibility
Ensure that the design and finish of the steel brackets complement the overall aesthetic of your kitchen. Whether you opt for visible brackets that add an industrial flair or concealed brackets for a seamless look, choose options that enhance the visual appeal of your island countertop.
3. Professional Installation
While steel brackets are relatively easy to install, hiring a professional ensures they are securely mounted and aligned correctly. This professional touch not only guarantees the structural integrity of your countertop but also provides peace of mind knowing it is installed to industry standards.
Conclusion
In conclusion, steel brackets are an excellent choice for building your island countertop due to their strength, durability, stability, and versatility in design. Whether you prioritize functionality, aesthetic appeal, or long-term reliability, steel brackets deliver on all fronts, making them a preferred option for homeowners and designers alike. By investing in quality steel brackets and ensuring professional installation, you can create a kitchen island countertop that not only enhances the beauty of your space but also stands the test of time with minimal maintenance. Choose steel brackets today and elevate your kitchen to new heights of style and functionality.
What Size Kitchen Island is Best?
The island plays a pivotal role when designing a functional and aesthetically pleasing kitchen. The first step in planning your kitchen island is determining the size. Getting the size right is essential for ensuring that the island fits seamlessly into your kitchen layout and serves the intended purpose effectively.
Guidelines for Kitchen Island Sizes
The minimum recommended size for a kitchen island is 2-by-4 feet. This provides enough space for essential functions such as food preparation and extra storage. However, a crucial factor to consider is the overall size of your kitchen when determining the islandâs dimensions. Ideally, the islandâs total area should be, at most, 10% of the kitchenâs total area. For instance, if your kitchen measures 150 square feet, your island should be a maximum of 15 square feet. This rule of thumb helps maintain a harmonious balance between the island and the rest of the kitchen.
Seating
Now, letâs delve into a kitchen island with seating. How many bar stools should you aim for? Typically, for a 6-foot island, you can accommodate three barstools. This allows for a comfortable dining or casual seating experience without overcrowding the island. Of course, you can adjust the amount of seating depending on the space available and your personal preferences, but three barstools are a good starting point for balance and functionality when planning for a kitchen island with seating.
Other Factors in Kitchen Island Form & Function
To further enhance your kitchen islandâs functionality and aesthetics, consider the types of sink mounts, materials, and colors that will match your new island. Sink mounts come in various options, including undermount, self-rimming, and apron front. The choice depends on your design preferences and how you intend to use the sink.
In terms of materials for the island, you can choose from a wide range of options, including stainless steel, cast iron, composite, or stone. Each material has unique benefits regarding durability, maintenance, and aesthetics. When selecting the material, consider your kitchen and islandâs overall style and design!
Selecting the right size for your kitchen island is a crucial aspect of kitchen design. The island should complement your kitchenâs layout and size, ensuring and enhancing functionality and aesthetics. Go to our kitchen products page to shop more about a sinkâs features, materials, and colors for a kitchen island that will also meet your culinary needs! By carefully considering these factors, you will be well on your way to creating the perfect kitchen island for your culinary adventures and social gatherings.
Takeout Share Kitchen Interior Design Example
When you are working with shared space for your commercial kitchen, there are many things to consider. The most important thing is how the spaces are configured to work â and not to clash. You will want to think about the flow of traffic through your restaurant as well as how staff will move between areas. Then you need to prioritize your needs for the space and how that compares to your wants or nice-to-haves. Check their site to know more details ăă¤ăŻă˘ăŚă ĺ
čŁ
.
For the layout of this space, they wanted to create an open floor plan for increased communication and supervision of all kitchen activities. The space is divided into blocks that follow the proper workflow â a dishwashing block, a food prep block and so on. This helps to increase efficiency and ensures that staff members donât get in each otherâs way or work too close together, compromising sanitation and safety.
A big challenge with shared kitchens is ensuring that both parties have access to the necessary equipment. Sprezzatura worked with the landlord to ensure that their refrigeration and other essentials were located within their space as well as in a location that would be cost effective for them. The team also had to find a solution for the hood system since it is an expensive piece of equipment that will be shared between both organizations.
The best thing to do when planning a shared kitchen is to partner with an expert design firm that understands both the practical and regulatory challenges associated with these projects. They will help you navigate the bidding process, investment, funding and construction to bring your shared kitchen concept to life.
The interior design of a Takeout Share Kitchen is a delightful blend of functionality and aesthetics, creating an inviting space that caters to both culinary enthusiasts and those seeking a convenient meal solution.
The color palette is warm and welcoming, with earthy tones dominating the space. Creamy whites and soft grays are complemented by accents of rich wood and vibrant greenery, evoking a sense of freshness and natural harmony. Large windows allow ample natural light to flood in, enhancing the airy ambiance.
The kitchen layout is strategically designed for efficiency. An expansive central island serves as the heart of the space, providing ample prep area and a convenient gathering spot. Sleek, stainless steel appliances and state-of-the-art cooking equipment line the walls, offering chefs a professional-grade cooking experience.
The open shelving and glass-fronted cabinets not only showcase a colorful array of fresh ingredients but also provide easy access for cooks to grab what they need swiftly. Wall-mounted racks for pots and pans optimize storage, keeping the countertops clean and uncluttered.
Comfortable seating areas with bar stools and cozy booths are interspersed throughout the space, ensuring that customers can enjoy their meals in style. Pendant lights and subtle under-cabinet lighting add a warm and inviting ambiance to the dining area.
Incorporating thoughtful design elements like these, a Takeout Share Kitchen interior seamlessly combines form and function, making it a place where culinary creativity thrives, and customers feel right at home.
Create a Welcoming Gathering Space With a Kitchen Renovation
A well-designed kitchen is an asset that can add resale value to your home. Itâs also one of the most common areas homeowners remodel to make their homes more appealing to buyers.
A kitchen renovation falls into two categories: cosmetic and structural. A cosmetic reno replaces easily removed items, while a structural remodel requires removing or adding walls.
Add a Seating Area
A kitchen renovation is a big project that can involve lots of people. The work will bring strangers into your home for weeks or months and create a major mess. If you hire a general contractor, they will manage subcontractors, track paperwork, and make sure your permits are final.
You can limit this disruption by planning your remodel carefully. Consider making the changes that are most beneficial for you and your guests. For example, adding seating can be helpful for socializing and entertaining. Having a kitchen island with stools is a popular choice that provides seating for guests without affecting prep space.
You can also include banquette seating, a type of upholstered bench that is usually built-in or extends across an entire wall. This seating can also have storage beneath the seats. Alternatively, you can convert a wall of upper cabinets into open shelving where you can store dishes and add a wall-mount shelf for cookbooks.
Add a Bar
A kitchen bar can be a great addition to your cooking area, providing both extra seating and plenty of space for food prep. Itâs also a great way to introduce a fun pop of color that can help establish the overall mood of your kitchen.
One popular move is to line a kitchen bar in bold tile, which makes a strong visual statement thatâs sure to impress. Another option is to paint the bar a different shade from your kitchen cabinets, which will create an intriguing contrast.
If your kitchen opens up to a dining room or living space, itâs important that the design of your bar and those rooms feel distinct but still cohesive. Look for ways to tie the two spaces together, such as by incorporating similar wood tones in your stools and light fixtures. Or, display your go-to drinks on a set of shelves that are coordinated with the barâs color scheme.
Add a Wine Rack
Make sure youâre prepared for the next wine-infused meal by adding a custom kitchen wine rack. This will keep your bottles within reach and add to the visual interest of the room. Whether you prefer a sleek and modern diamond-cube design or a rustic wood cabinet, weâll integrate your wine storage into the rest of the kitchen design.
We recommend storing your bottles upside down so that the cork stays moist and allows air to circulate properly. Itâs also important to keep them away from sunlight, as UV rays can degrade wine. Ideally, your wine storage should be in a cool, dark location like a basement or cellar.
If a full cellar or built-in wine rack isnât in your budget, try a freestanding wine storage unit that offers plenty of space to store your favorite bottles. This style can be a stylish accent to your dining or kitchen island and it works well for smaller spaces, too.
Add Lighting
Incorporating lighting into your kitchen renovation is an important part of creating a gathering space that you love. A well-lit kitchen is a welcoming one, and itâs also functionally optimal for cooking, reading recipes, and entertaining guests.
Start by installing ambient lighting, which is typically overhead lights that can be switched on with a switch. Next, add task lighting to highlight areas of interest and provide focused beams of light for specific activities. Finally, finish your kitchen remodel with accent lighting to showcase decorative elements and add a personal touch.
If you donât have the wall space for additional windows, consider bringing in natural light from the ceiling with a skylight. These are available in a variety of designs to complement the style of your kitchen. This natural lighting will also be more energy-efficient than artificial options, which can save you money on your monthly utility bill. To finish the look of your kitchen, a drywall professional can refinish the ceiling or install crown moulding for a finished look.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the costliest part of a Kitchen Remodel?
Since the price of a kitchen will vary depending on the project, thereâs no one right answer. Some experts believe that the average kitchen remodel cost can be anywhere from $40,000 up to $100,000. So, planning a major kitchen overhaul, you could be looking at a hefty price tag. If there are no structural changes to your kitchen, the custom cabinets will be the most expensive.
25-35% of the total costs will be covered by custom cabinets. Countertops, appliances and flooring are some other big-ticket items. You might need to prioritize which parts of your kitchen you would like to replace if you have a limited budget. You can still have a luxurious kitchen with minimal investment if you do your research.
There are still ways to save money. Instead of focusing on major structural renovations, you can make cosmetic changes. It might be possible to replace countertops or refinish cabinets rather than completely renovating the kitchen. If youâre looking for a larger project to save labor costs, you might be able to do some of it yourself.
No matter your budget, there are ways to make your kitchen remodel more affordable. If you are strategic about your choices, and plan well, you can make the kitchen that you want without breaking the bank.
Are open-concept and modular kitchens in decline?
Open-concept cooking is still very popular as they allow for easy access to all the kitchen areas. However, some homeowners return to more traditional kitchen designs for several reasons.
An open-concept kitchen can make it very noisy. Open-concept kitchens can be difficult to clean due to all the cooking fumes and dust that circulate throughout the house.
Family who enjoy cooking together will love open-plan, well-designed kitchens. But they can also be a nightmare if you have kids that like to play in the kitchen and donât always listen to their parents! If youâre considering an open-concept kitchen, carefully weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.
Vancouverâs climate is white-colored kitchens an option?
Vancouver homeowners love white kitchens because they bring light into the space and give it a modern feel. However, we donât get as much sunlight in Metro Vancouver so itâs best for natural elements such as wood to add warmth to the space.
How do I figure out my budget for a kitchen renovation?
You can use the following guidelines to help you figure out your budget:
Begin by estimating the cost for materials required to remodel. These materials include countertops, cabinets, paint, tile and lighting.
Research the average cost of labor in your area. Add these numbers to your total budget.
Add up all labor and materials costs to finish your project. Divide that number with the square footage of your kitchen. This gives you the estimated cost of each square foot.
Subtract any savings you anticipate from doing some work yourself or buying materials at a discount.
To cover any unforeseen costs, consider adding a contingency rate of 10 to 20%.
These are just estimates. For a more accurate estimate of your kitchen remodel cost, contact a professional.
These guidelines will help to create a budget plan for your kitchen renovation. Keep in mind that costs will vary depending on what materials you use, how big your project is, and other factors.
How To
How to design a kitchen youâll love cooking in for years to come
Kitchen design should balance aesthetics and practicality. The space you choose should be thoughtfully planned so your kitchen becomes a place where you feel at home, cook delicious food, entertain friends and family, and relax after a long day.
Here are some tips to help plan your dream kitchen.
Choose the layout that suits your needs best. The three most popular kitchen layouts are L-shaped, U-shaped, and galley. L-shaped Kitchens are perfect for entertaining, and can easily hold multiple cooks. U-shaped kitchens work well for families that spend a lot time in the kitchen. They offer ample storage and counter space. Galley kitchens are great for small spaces, as they can be accessed quickly and easily.
Take the time to research all options in cabinetry, and then choose high quality products. There are many options to choose from, depending on your budget. High-end cabinets can pay huge dividends. They will last for a longer time, look better, provide greater protection against temperature and humidity changes, as well as being more durable.
Use a color palette that makes you smile. No matter what color you like, you can find a color combination that will bring life and color into your kitchen. It could be bright colors or soft pastels. Just make sure it matches the rest of the room.
You should find a balance between beauty and function. It is not necessary that your kitchen be stunning all the time. Sometimes, you have to be more concerned with functionality than aesthetics. However, you donât need to forget about decorative elements. To create a focal point, mix glass, brass, chrome, ceramic, stone and wood.
Create a comfortable environment. Comfort is key when designing your kitchen. This is where you will spend most of your time. It should be welcoming and comfortable. Add some seating areas, lighting fixtures, and other features that will help you relax after a long day.
Storage is important. You should have ample storage space in your kitchen to store all your cooking tools, utensils as well as dishes, pots and pans. If youâre thinking of remodeling your kitchen, add more cabinets.
Include a pantry. A pantry allows you to efficiently organize and store food items. Additionally, a separate place where you can store additional supplies will help to keep clutter away from the rest of your kitchen.
You might consider a new type of flooring. You can make a big difference in the look and feel of your kitchen by choosing the right flooring. There are many materials available. For small spaces, it may be possible to have the same flooring throughout the house.
Expanding plan. The biggest mistake people make when remodeling their kitchens, is not allowing enough room for future growth. You can add a walk-in closet or sliding doors to your existing countertop space if you are thinking of expanding.
It is important to allow plenty of natural light. Being able to see your work is the best way you can enjoy your kitchen. You should ensure that your kitchen is well-lit and has plenty of natural light.
Use energy-efficient appliances. Remodeling your kitchen should be about energy efficiency. This means you need to replace older appliances with more energy-efficient models.
Be careful about what you spend. Do a thorough analysis of your finances before you shop for kitchen appliances or cabinets. This will allow you to narrow your options and help you save money in long-term.
You should designate an area for entertaining. No matter if you like hosting dinner parties at home or entertaining friends over drinks and food, having a designated dining space will provide a place for your guests to gather and socialize.
Add an island. An island is an excellent addition to any kitchen because it provides extra prep and eating space while also serving as a convenient spot to put your beverages, snacks, and other small items.
