The Role of Islamic Schools in Community Building
Islamic schools in Watford play a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging and unity among local communities. By offering high-quality education rooted in Islamic values, these institutions ensure that students receive both academic excellence and a strong moral foundation. This dual approach helps create responsible citizens who contribute positively to society.
Providing High-Quality Education With Islamic Values
Education is a cornerstone of any thriving society. Islamic schools in Watford provide a comprehensive curriculum that integrates national educational standards with Islamic teachings. These schools emphasize subjects such as mathematics, science, literature, and history, alongside Qur'anic studies, Arabic, and Islamic ethics. By blending secular and religious education, they produce well-rounded individuals who excel in their professional and personal lives.
Strengthening Moral and Ethical Development
Islamic schools instill strong ethical principles in students from a young age. They promote kindness, honesty, respect, and integrity, essential values that guide students in their interactions with others. These ethical teachings not only shape individual character but also contribute to a harmonious society, reducing social issues such as bullying, discrimination, and crime.
Encouraging Community Engagement and Social Responsibility
Islamic schools in Watford encourage active community participation through various outreach programs, charity initiatives, and volunteer opportunities. Students engage in activities such as food drives, elderly care visits, environmental campaigns, and interfaith dialogues. These initiatives not only benefit the wider community but also teach students the importance of giving back and working towards societal betterment.
Fostering Cultural Identity and Belonging
In a multicultural society, maintaining cultural identity is vital for personal and communal well-being. Islamic schools provide a safe environment where students can embrace their heritage and religious values without fear of discrimination. This sense of belonging enhances self-esteem, confidence, and overall mental well-being. Moreover, by educating students on cultural diversity and tolerance, these schools help bridge gaps between different communities in Watford.
Enhancing Academic and Extracurricular Excellence
Islamic schools in Watford are known for their high academic standards. Many students achieve excellent results in national exams, allowing them to pursue higher education at prestigious universities. Beyond academics, these schools offer extracurricular activities such as sports, debate clubs, science fairs, and leadership programs, fostering well-rounded development.
Bridging Gaps Between Communities
Islamic schools actively promote interfaith dialogue and understanding. By collaborating with other religious and secular institutions, they build bridges of communication that help reduce misunderstandings and stereotypes. Schools often organize interfaith events, workshops, and open houses that allow different communities to learn about Islamic traditions and beliefs, fostering a more inclusive and harmonious society.
Supporting Parents and Families
Islamic schools do not only focus on students but also support families in their educational and spiritual journeys. Schools offer parenting workshops, counseling sessions, and family bonding activities that help strengthen family relationships. By fostering a strong parent-school partnership, these institutions create a supportive network for both students and their guardians.
Preparing Students for Leadership Roles
Watford's Islamic schools are committed to producing future leaders who can positively impact society. They offer leadership training, mentorship programs, and career guidance to prepare students for roles in politics, business, education, and community service. Adventures in Librarian-ing
Me: Today we're gonna read a story about Eid, since our Muslim friends will be celebrating it soon.
Grade 2: *gasps and raises their hand excitedly* I'm Muslim!
Me: That's right! And Eid's just around the corner, isn't it? (*Grade 2 nods emphatically*)
[After the story]
Grade 2: Can I take the Eid book as one of my books? I want it because I'm Muslim.
Me: Sure, here you go!
Grade 2: Do you have any more Muslim books?
Me: I do need to get more, but I think I have a couple, let's check.
Along with the Eid book they went home with a Muslim retelling of Cinderella (Cinderella: An Islamic Tale) and a book called One Sun and Countless Stars: A Muslim Counting Book. :)

Aya: My name is Aya Ahmed Abdullah Sa'id al-Banna. I study at [UNRWA's] Tulkarm Camp Girls' School.
Interviewer: Did you learn anything in school about the Right of Return?
Aya: Yes. The right of the brave, and we'll return to our land, stuff like that.
Interviewer: What do they teach you about Israel?
Aya: That we'll... That we'll shoot them
Interviewer: Do you hate the Jews?
Aya: Yes, a lot.
Interviewer: Why?
Aya: Because they're our enemies and we'll take back our right from them.
Interviewer: What do you think about the attack on Israel on October 7th and the war that happened after it? Is this connected to the Right of Return?
Aya: Yes. So that we can take Palestine, and so that our land returns to us.
Interviewer: Do you think Al-Aqsa is just symbolic?
Aya: No, I'm willing to fight for it.
Interviewer: Is there room for the Jews in Al-Aqsa?
Aya: No.
Interviewer: Do the Jews have the right to exist here in Palestine?
Aya: No. Because Palestine is ours, not theirs.
Interviewer: Is it possible to divide Palestine between the Jews and the Palestinians?
Aya: No. This is our land.
Interviewer: What do you like to watch the most on your phone?
Aya: I like to watch things about Palestine, the martyrs, the resistance fighters and Hamas.
Interviewer: So, would you want to join the resistance?
Aya: Yes.
Interviewer: Why?
Aya: So that I can fight, and take my rights from Israel and become a martyr.
Interviewer: What do you learn in school about peace?
Aya: It teaches me... that we don't like Israel.
Interviewer: Are the martyrs heroes?
Aya: Yes, they're big heroes.
Interviewer: Do you want to become a martyr?
Aya: Yes.
Interviewer: Why?
Aya: So that we can rise up to Allah.
==
UNRWA is just a front for Hamas.
Reminder that Al-Aqsa resides on the Temple Mount, and the existence of both the First and Second Temples at that location is well-established. Yes, the bible is fictional, but so is Spider-Man and we don't have to assume that New York is fictional too, because fiction can be set in real locations. And we don't have to blindly trust the fables of the bible when there is archaeological evidence.
No matter how much bogus postmodern academic gibberish Hamas supporters throw around, this is about Islamic hate for Jews. And always was.
"You should attack every Jew possible in all the world and kill them." -- Fathi Hamad, Hamas Interior Minister
"People of Jerusalem. We want you to cut off the heads of the Jews with knives. With your hand, cut their artery from here. A knife costs five shekels. Buy a knife, sharpen it, put it there, and just cut off [their heads]. It costs just five shekels." -- Fathi Hamad, Hamas Interior Minister
"... the Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to the realisation of Allah's promise, no matter how long that should take. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: 'The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.'" -- Hamas Charter, 1988

Hi! Please feel free to ignore this if you're not comfortable answering. Your posts made me interested in learning about Qur'anism and I was wondering if you have any book recommendations to learn about this sect? Thank you!

Does anyone have any recommendations of books featuring Muslim characters and/or Muslim holidays?
I'm a librarian for a K-5 school (K-6 as of next year), so anything for ages 5 to 12 or so would be greatly appreciated.
I'm going to be looking at sources like Hijabi Librarians, but I figured I'd ask in case anyone has any titles they'd like to share. :)
