Custom ISF - RocketISF
What are common examples of ISF?
Common Examples of ISF The Importer Security Filing (ISF) is a requirement for all ocean cargo imports into the United States. While the specific information required for the ISF may vary depending on the shipment, here are some common examples of the information that may be included in an ISF filing:
Tumblr media
Container Stuffing Location: For less-than-container load (LCL) shipments, the ISF Importer may rely on vendors overseas to provide information about the container stuffing location.
In-Bond Shipments: Some shipments may be transported in-bond, meaning they arrive by ocean in one U.S. port but are immediately transported by truck to another location without entering the commerce of the U.S. This information would be included in the ISF.
Booking Party: The party responsible for booking the shipment with the ocean carrier.
Foreign Port of Unlading: The port where the shipment is unloaded before being transported to the United States.
Place of Delivery: The location where the shipment will be delivered in the United States.
Ship to Party: The party to whom the shipment will be delivered in the United States.
Commodity HTS Number: The Harmonized System (HS) code that classifies the goods being imported. This code helps determine the applicable duties and regulations for the shipment.
These are just a few examples of the information that may be included in an ISF filing. The specific requirements may vary depending on the nature of the shipment and other factors. It is important to work with a licensed customs broker or consult official CBP resources for accurate and up-to-date information regarding ISF requirements.

Hello!! I come with questions for Madame Nuala President 🎤✨??
So I can see how Sandflower could be established since it has a solid foundation on canon BUT what about Immortalflower? Or Immortal Sandflower? ( hope I’m not mixing ships names! I mean Hob x Nuala x Dream)
Do you have any Headcanons as to how those ships come to be? I would be interested in knowing more about them!
Thank you 🖤
You are so not mixing them, dear. It is ImmortalSandFlower, ISF for short.
We have come to it! The idiots at the end of the road. My creme de la creme of polycules.
Okay, so before Miss Madam President gets too excited, this post will be structured in the following way *puts my big girl glasses on*:
Why do I think ISF works so much more for me than any other trio?
My personal headcanons for them
Note to the people: I too have some Dreamling inclinations, I just love WOMEN damn it. Also, she is not my self-insert (that too has been in my inbox). I too want to be a man who is not an idiot and WILL LOVE miss Nuala like she has never been loved before. She is my wife, my girlfriend, my muse. I have no interest in those men. I am in love with her. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
ALRIGHT! It's all under the flower line so I don't do the thing where I clog the tag.
Tumblr media
Why ISF works so much more for me than any other trio?
In the short of it - they have such compatible personalities. It's insane. I have a picture I send to my friends every time I try to explain Morpheus - Hob - Nuala.
Tumblr media
This is how they exist in my head. When they are in couples, their dynamics LARGELY differ, but together, they share the emotional burden of each other - Moon/Star/Sun dynamic. Morpheus is the tired moon, Hob is the bright star, and Nuala is the warm sun, and together they make the whole sky.
It's a very warm triangle, and to me, they are a real love triangle because each loves the other and they stand alone as couples. When they are a polycule, their power dynamics also equal out if that makes sense. Morpheus does not necessarily hold more power over them anymore, so I like that about it as well.
To illustrate their couple dynamics better, I will give examples. I love to give these examples so people see how versatile they are. (happy screaming).
Dreamling
I will not go into details, but my quintessential Dreamling is 1789 Dreamling.
Tumblr media
I think this is the era that really summarizes their dynamic quite well - Morpheus doesn't really force himself on Robert but still holds a considerable amount of power that could equate to him having influence over Robert's life decisions. Robert on the other hand is also very independent, he respects Morpheus, but is not afraid of him anymore. So I enjoy 1789 Dreamling a lot.
2. Sandflower
I won't use the comics to explain what is THE Sandflower dynamic because the real summarized Sandflower dynamic is them:
Tumblr media
I can swear this on my soul, when Nuala and Morpheus begin to act like Elizabeth and Darcy in the show, remember, you heard it here first. Their opposite views on the world, their stubborness, the way he treats her in canon as if she is no more but a mere inconvinience but in reality he constantly does things to protect her, is very Darcy and Elizabeth of them. And as I have always said, Nuala has always stood her ground and protected who she is and where she came from.
3. Immortalflower
There is one perfect media that encapsulates Hob x Nuala's relationship SO good that there is no reason to explain further to people because they usually get it from the get go.
Tumblr media
THEM. Hob and Nuala have THEE Eugene and Rapunzel dynamic. Consider the fact Nuala has never been to the Waking world, she knows nothing about it and Hob is this Immortal man that has been to every corner of the planet already. Her enthusiasm about everything she doesn't know about sparks back his love of everything he does know. So they are very gentle, loving, fluffy, a bit silly, goofy.
Separated, each couple can stand on its own and be entertaining and complex, while being something completely new and interesting when together, which is VERY rare to me. So they compel me TERRIBLY.
ONTO HEADCANNONS
Tumblr media
I have DOMESTIC headcannons the most. If anyone wants spicy HC, you'll have to ask separately. But just so we know, we do offer the Spicy version of the menu.
SO! This is based on the concept of Retired!Morpheus:
The three of them live together in the inn
Morpheus is either a children's book author or a librarian
Hob owns the Inn and does his little Professor gig to the side
Nuala transforms a part of the Inn into a beautiful patissiere, full of pink mugs and live plants and fresh bread, pasteries and wonderful unique blends of teas she learned from her fairy home
They play a board game together once a week
Read together on the couch every night
Saturdays are for movies (Nuala adores animation and Morpheus doesn't understand the appeal of cinema entirely)
When they do go on dates, they usually let Nuala pick where she wants to go because it's her enthusiasm about seeing something new that is more precious to the good old Dreamling who has seen all there is to see from Earth than being on a date per se
Hob cooks, always
Morpheus is a wine mom
Nuala runs around the kitchen to entertain more than to help at any capacity, but she has a talent for vegeterian dishes, but Hob is not a big fan, but they compromise, they compromise
Each of them kind of has their own room, but also they always end up sleeping together in someone else's room.
My hc are all primarily domestic, or maybe my mood is like that right now.
Tumblr media
I will now do something very shameless and admit I have already written an ISF one-shot. It's called "Set Me Free" and it's a Sea AU - Dreamling Pirates and Mermaid Nuala. It's one of my favourite things I have written and it's quite fun short story!
I hope my answer was interesting! If there is any other questions, inquires or suggestions or thoughts, my Asks and DMs are always open!
Love,
Li 🪷

vocalracha and juyeon
a/n: ship popularity is 1-8 with one being the most popular and 8 being the least! this is rated by stay interaction and not a representation of the member’s feelings toward one another.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
kim seungmin (mongmong) + kang juyeon (yaong) ♡ yamong
ship popularity: 8/8
there is an important distinction to make with juyeon and vocalracha, starting with seungmin.
to juyeon, seungmin is like minho but in italics. seungmin is evil and lives for chaos, but he’s cute, which makes him that much more dangerous.
seungmin is the only other member juyeon sees as a real brother; a little brother with devious plans to do something but she’s not sure what yet.
however, since day one seungmin and juyeon have always gotten along very well due to their similar personalities and temperaments. of the 4 traits making a mbti chart, yamong share 3 common letters (isf) and prefer things to be calm and relaxed - 2 things that are rare to come by in stray kids.
this commonality between them grew into a sort of comfort zone with one another which allows them to enjoy one another’s company in different ways from the other members.
for example, juyeon is the only member allowed to disturb seungmin’s ‘tea time’ simply because when it’s just them, it’s almost like being alone.
they’ve gotten so comfortable it’s like they become one person sharing the same thoughts and feelings. those thoughts and feelings are: mmmm nice and quiet ( ˘ω˘ )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yang jeongin + kang juyeon ♡ inju
ship popularity: 4/8
with seungmin and hyunjin as designated brothers, where does that leave our agibbang?
answer: juyeon’s literal child, duh!
jeongin was the fourth member to join jyp after jisung, meaning juyeon has known him since he was about 14. and because she met him at such a young age she has had the privilege of watching him grow from a brace-faced kid to a grown boy!
but no matter how old he gets juyeon will always think of him as the squeaky 16 year old he was(^∇^)
in the early years, juyeon offered a lot of help to jeongin in a much lighter way than she did hyunjin. instead of leaning into the mentor role in which her expectations were almost always juuust out of reach, she was enthusiastic and supportive with each and every attempt.
and honestly, the obvious improvement wasn’t what she was aiming for. all he really needed was confidence and the rest was just his natural talents.
if you ask juyeon, she raised him. (sorry jeongin’s mom) she didn’t personally wake him up for school every day for nothing!
and don’t tell jisung, but juyeon says jeongin is the funniest member in her opinion
seriously we know stray kids has a lot of fun and laughs but there’s something about jeongin that just cracks her up
not much more to say other than there’s just lots of love here (๑>◡<๑)♡

Right okay so I picked up Elite Dangerous for the first time in a while, been enjoying ground missions and all (somewhat.) and then, right. I get a mission, threat level zero, barely any payout, just doing doing it to get access to one of the Odyssey engineers. Legal mission, just gotta go restore power to an evacuated settlement. I’m en route, I get a message that there’s some salvagers there that I should take out (note - they’re criminals, the mission is still legal, killing them is legal bounty hunting). For SOME REASON the fucking SYSTEM AUTHORITY SHOWS UP and open fire on ME (I have no fines or bounties for any faction in the system) so now I’m fighting twenty-something well-armed soldiers when I was supposed to be fighting six dirty scrappers with pistols. And because EVERY combat capable NPC uses the same designation system, the same behaviors, the same voice lines, etc and don’t get faction tags, I can’t tell who I’m shooting. Obviously I get killed and fail the mission (way outgunned, not a chance of even escaping let alone winning) but now I guess I grazed a cop or something and I have a small bounty with the local faction in charge. Not a huge deal but outstanding fines and bounties mean I can’t access a lot of services, and any time I die under any circumstances I respawn not at my ship, not at my last visited station, but at the nearest prison barge (which is fuck-off lightyears away). Normally what you do here is go to a station with an Interstellar Factor contact. They let you pay off fines and bounties from foreign (explicitly foreign) factions for an additional fee, without additional legal troubles. But EVERY SINGLE ISF within some 100-somthing lightyears is owned by the faction I have a bounty with. Which I can’t pay it off without also getting shipped off to the nearest prison barge which is, of course, fuck-off lightyears away. What the fuck. Why did the ENTIRE LOCAL POLICE FORCE descend on me while doing legal humanitarian work. The fuck.

Salt warning for the tags
#disclaimer all headcanons are valid I’m just being an ass about one I personally dislike if you do like it good for u I sincerely mean that#anyway I get why ppl like to see Am.ber as De.vo’s mother figure#like I’m well aware shipping them puts me in the minority I’m chill with that#but honestly i just can’t see him wanting a mother figure. his last one sucked and I don’t think he would take kindly to a new one#he has issues with authority. ESPECIALLY mother figures. he doesn’t want another one.#he wants to be seen as an adult. he wants to be an equal to Am.ber.#that’s half the reason he’s pissed at her. cuz he feels like she doesn’t see him as an equal.#and I don’t think she WANTS to be a mother figure. i don’t think she would be good at it. she’s clearly NOT good at it.#she doesn’t want to mother him. she gets annoyed whenever she feels like she has to.#i love their relationship. like it’s really interesting. obv I like the idea of it being romantic but even in canon it’s great#but she’s NOT his mother figure. that’s a read that goes against so much of the text.#i think people just see a group that could be a found family (not YET they aren’t that for sure)#and try and fit them into nuclear family dynamics.#which is BULLSHIT. the reason found family is great is cuz it gets AWAY from strict definitions of family. FUCK!#also something to be said about an older female character being immediately assigned the role of mother but that’s for another time#anyway salt over.#isfs

Chapter 6: Causing Chaos
——————
Planet Amari was their next stop. It would take only four hours to get there and usually this would be no problem if they weren’t harboring a human. Let alone the human that had just escaped the Dream Team Ship.
Phil shook his head and focused on the increased security around the boarding docks.
Amair is a planet whose only purpose is to entertain, meaning they already have some of the best security in this part of the galaxy. The added security came directly from the ISF and were now searching suspicious ships.
“Check check, one two.” The microphone turned green, “As your captain it is my duty to warn you about extra security measures. The ISF is boarding ships and checking for abnormalities. Please complete protocol 35.0.” Phil spoke into the mic and waited for everyone’s confirmation.
He got up and started the process of taking maps and blueprints that were not available to the public along with future plans and hid them in a document compartment behind one of his shelves. He then changed his normal illusion monitor and changed it to the default screen.
He stepped out of the cabin and cleaned the surrounding area, while also checking for anything that could be confiscated.
“Tommy. In order to go onto the planet I need you to wear this.”Wilbur confronted.
“No! It looks like one of those serial killer masks!! My face is too beautiful to be hidden.” Tommy scoffed.
“Tommy if you don’t wear it willingly, I will tell Ranboo about-“ Wilbur was cut off by a series of curses and Tommy fiddling the mask around his face. “Good. Put this on too.” Wilbur handed the blonde a bundle of clothes and made his way to the lab. Phil chuckled at the brotherly bond that was already forming.
He made his way down to the lab checking for abnormalities before seeping back to the holding cell. The human was pulling at his clothes while packing things back into the shelf.
“Hello mate! Whatcha doing there?” Phil asked, casually. What he didn’t expect was the human to practically jump out of his clothes in the captain’s presence.
“W-who are you?” Tommy stammered, Phil had completely forgotten he had never introduced himself before.
“Oh! I forgot we haven’t formally met. My name is Captain Philza Mine Craft, but you can call me Phil or Philza, whichever you prefer. I use he/him pronouns and am the legal captain of the SBI Craft.” Phil finished his introduction with an easy confidence, even with the face mask you could easily see the kid’s wonder, “We are currently waiting for a formal check from the ISF.” The human tensed at that, “So if you would please follow me to the common room, so I may hide the holding cell.” The human nodded vigorously.
Once Phil had dropped Tommy off in the common room he made his way to the holding cell. With a few clicks and checks the holding cell made a perfect illusion wall, which molded it into the wall not to be seen by any inspectors or gadgets they may have.
Once he had gotten confirmations from all crew members, he made his way back to the pilot’s cabin. If they were even a minute slower with preparations, security would have deemed the ship suspicious.
They settled the ship at the checkpoint and waited for a security officer to signal them.
——————
Wilbur’s leg bounced anxiously as he wore his disguise. He had finished briefing Tommy about the plan. They would lie about their origins, Wilbur doing the talking, and would get what they needed and get out.
The only thing anyone was waiting on was the guard.
Almost on queue the door began to open and a young starling stood at the door. He seemed to be genetically engineered and had wires attached to his head and 3D glasses.
“Hello everyone! My name is Jack Manifold, and I will be checking your ship!” The starling chirped, “I hope you have both we have to confiscate, because everyone here seems like lovely people. I have to ask where is your captain?”
“Right here mate.” Philza said, stepping out of the pilot cabin. “I am Captain Philza Mine Craft, of the SBI Craft. Feel free to look around.” Phil said with a hint of impatience. Jack didn’t seem to notice and made his way around the Craft.
Everyone sitting in the common room shared a few nervous glances. The only one who seemed oddly comfortable was Tubbo.. Wilbur took note of the behavior and tried to busy himself with the magazine he was holding...
When did he get a magazine?
He was immersed in an article about room design when Jack returned.
“Everything seems to be in order! The only thing I ask is that everyone introduces themselves.” His tone turned serious as he looked at the crew.
“My name is Technoblade. I am the security officer on this ship and second in command.” Techno said without faltering in tone.
“I am Ranboo. I am Technoblade’s hired assistant and do most chores around the ship.” Ranboo said clearly anxious with the attention on them.
“Tubbo, I am a hired gardener and take care of food supplies and medical ingredients.” There was a coldness to Tubbo’s voice as he finished his introduction.
“Dr. Craft, I am a toxicologist. This is my medical student, Tommy, he doesn’t talk much.” There was a suspicious glint in Jack’s eye as Wilbur continued, “We have been working for this crew for two months, before that we were traveling on our own licensed craft.” Jack accepted the answer and finished checking his notepad off.
“Alright, that will be all then! Welcome to Amari! Once I give this report to my manager, you should be able to enter the atmosphere!” With that the cheery starling left the ship and Phil closed the door before disappearing into the pilots cabin.
To say Wilbur was relieved was an understatement.
——————
Things were falling into place.
Once they were on the planet all Tubbo would have to do is add the substance to one of Tommy’s drinks and he would be acting out in no time!
But is it worth it?
He pushed the thought out of his head and finished packing the small packet in his bag before getting off the ship with the rest of the crew.
“Before we head to the shopping center, why don’t we stop by Las Nevada’s? I mean it’s Tommy’s first time on Amari after all.” Tubbo said. Las Nevada’s is the most well known restaurant and casino in Amari. It was the perfect place for Tubbo to start his plan.
“I don’t see why not. Just stay in the restaurant bit, we don’t want to draw any more attention to ourselves.” Phil answered.
With that the group walked into one of the best and worst places in the city, though no one knew of the worst bit yet…
——————
They sat around a booth compartment. It had soft red padding and purple looking palm trees, without the coconuts.
It reminded Tommy of a stereotypical mafia restaurant. Something Tommy never got the privilege of seeing.
It made him very uncomfortable, especially when the waitress gave them drinks in glass cups. He felt like whatever he touched would instantly shatter into a billion pieces.
Techno was taking Ranboo to the bathroom and Phil and Will were talking to a waitress leaving only Tommy and the scary bee boy . alone.
“I told you I was done Miranda!!” A man shouted from a nearby table causing Tommy’s attention to be focused on the couple fighting.
“You had one job. And you failed it boy.” A man slapped his face.
He was in his third foster home again. They had asked him to get at least $50 from people on the subway, he had only managed to score $20, and the man was furious.
“You’re lucky I see potential, otherwise you’d be back in that goddamn group home.” Tommy’s eyes dropped yo the floor, another slap and a hand grabbing his chin to look at the man, “PAY ATTENTION TO ME BOY. I saved you from that hell hole and I can take you back.” The man sneered. Honestly Tommy would rather be there than here.
“Hey!” Wilbur snapped in front of his face, “You with us?” Tommy nodded. The couple was gone and everyone returned. Now Ranboo and Wilbur were sitting next to him and Tubbo was sitting next to Ranboo. Did bee-boy always look so guilty?
After a minute of awkward silence, Phil and Techno started talking, their voices drowned out by the surrounding noise. Wilbur had turned his attention to his menu and Ranboo was writing in his book again.
Tommy reached for his water and Tubbo turned his attention to the human. The mask he was wearing had a flap so he could easily breathe, eat, and drink. He took a sip of water….. was water supposed to be this sweet?
“Why the fuck would someone put sugar in water as a prank?” Tommy mumbled, everyone’s attention was on the human again, “What?” He asked defensively.
“Did you say sugar?” Wilbur asked as if it was the craziest thing he had ever heard.
“Umm… yea?” Tommy said. We’re these people pulling a prank on him? Why was everyone looking at him like that?
“Tommy, can you give me your water?” Wilbur asked, he was genuinely confused by the reactions. After a few seconds he gave his water to Wilbur who immediately took a sip and spit it out.
“What the fuck?!” Tommy asked as Wilbur gave him the water back.
“That is definitely sugar.. Tommy do you feel weird at all?” He asked.
“Erm no?” This was getting stranger and stranger.
“So humans are immune to sugar…” Will said as if it was a scientific breakthrough.
“Yea? Why wouldn’t we be?”
“Well for one, most species go absolutely crazy after eating sugar, for some it could lead to death.” Tubbo informed. He looked even more confused than Tommy felt.
“So like, aliens go psycho when they eat sugar? That’s lame.” Tommy laughed out the last line. Everyone looked at him with concerned glances, “I don’t think I am gonna go psycho after drinking a small bit of sugar water, I mean most people have been eating sugar their entire lives, me being one of ‘em.” Tommy finished and the underlying tension died down. Well except Tubbo’s which felt more like an angry glare meant to affect him in some way.
When the waitress came everyone gave their orders, Wilbur supplying Tommy’s. The rest of the meal was comfortable, with Phil telling stories and the rest supplying jokes and chatter, along with the occasional glare from Tubbo.
To be honest Tommy had never felt so comfortable around anyone before, he wanted so badly to let down his wall around these people. Still there was that annoying voice that told him not to trust them. For once he didn’t listen to it.
I mean what could go wrong?
——————
The plan failed. Shit.
Tubbo was mad. Not just mad, furious.
The others were having fun with the human, yet again. Tubbo had wandered off, he wanted to destroy everything, and yet he simply walked off without a second glance. He could feel the tears streaming down his face.
“Hello bee-boy!” The human scared the droneling, his ears falling flat against his head.
“I am not in the mood to talk.” Tubbo sniffed.
“Oh..” The human’s tone dropped, it was almost as if it was hurt by Tubbo’s words. “That’s alright big-man! We don’t have to talk.” The human settled with that response, with that the pair walked through the busy street in silence. Tubbo tried to throw the human off his trail but gave up after a few minutes.
After fifteen minutes of them wandering around Tubbo spotted a shop and made his way over to the electronic shop. The human followed him into the small store.
It was a small shop with tight isles and jazz music filling the silence. At the register a tall creeper hybrid fiddled with a redstone contraption. Tubbo paid no mind to him and turned his attention to some of the smaller devices scattered throughout the shop. The human shifted nervously behind him.
Once Tubbo found what he was looking for he took it over to the register. Another man stood behind it along with the original one. His eyes shifted to Tommy.
“Are you sure that’s him?” The original man asked, his name tag reading Sam.
“Yes, positive. Dream will be happy with this.” The other man replied, he stretched one of his fingerless black gloves and turned towards the pair. “Hi. I am assuming you have my boss’s patient?” The black hair man asked. He was a blazeling and had a cruel glint to his eye.
Without warning another man came up behind them and slapped a cloth over both of their faces. Within seconds the pair was out and everything went black.
He woke up in a cage.

 CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
4 W's in customs clearance, what, when, where, who
WHAT
What is customs clearance?
Prior to transporting different products, a transporter may consider what customs clearance means and how it's pertinent to their delivery choices. Each international sea cargo shipment should meet the standard of customs clearance in every country. Customs clearance is an important process in allowing merchandise that are moved to a country through a legit customs broker. Inside this interaction, there's additionally data in regards to shipments with imports and exports with parties associated with the cycle.
 WHEN
When is customs clearance needed?
Customs clearance is an important for all stock/bundles entering the U.S. from different nations. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection gives a form to you to finish a shipment portrayal. This depiction will incorporate a particular portrayal of a bundle's content, quantity, price tag, the heaviness of a thing, and the nation of starting point. Within the customs clearance process, it's significant that the declaration of customs form is filled out effectively to dodge legitimate issues. Things under $2,000 dollars don't need customs clearance. An insurance specialist will prepare administrative work for bringing in and afterward discharge it for conveyance. A bundle under $200 is normally cleared without extra administrative work.
 WHO
Who file the Customs Clearance?
Since Customs broker is a specialist for shippers that help merchants/importers with the exchange of their customs business, the can help you in terms of clearing your goods. These specialists are approved by tariff laws. A customs broker is either a private individual or firm that are authorized by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to coordinate custom entries/sections, installment of duties, and how this customs clearance process might be influenced by CBP releases merchandise from custody. Past of the future, future of the past...
Chapter 8. The sky's not the limit.
Author's warning: a suicide is attempted in this chapter. Proceed at your own risk. If computer systems could've been bored, the avionics of the "Hauler" would've been bored for sure. For more than a day, it was slowly doing small burns here and there, carefully deorbiting after having been unloaded, while also trying to evade space debris. Despite being impacted at several points already, automatics deemed the damage acceptable and went on with soft landing program, instead of simply deorbiting craft in they way it will burn and break apart. Right now, as Rayquaza was no longer of any concern and Minior posed not much more danger than debris - even less so, in fact, as they were actively trying to avoid collisions. Back on Earth, not too far away from Zemlino, recovery forces stood by, waiting for the cargo ship to land, so it can be brought back to Space Center for turnaround procedures, much like rocket stages of the "Water Dragon" would be in mere hours. Heat shield, parachutes, gas bags - all landing systems were still green and data meteorology stations was showing, that everything was within acceptable parameters for the landing and recovery. But right now, the ship still had to orbit Earth two more times… ---- "So… what do you think of it?" asked the captain of the "Red Explorer" everyone else, who was currently present in the mess hall in the centrifuge. "The more I think of it, the more it hits me, just what kind of a thing we've done - we've killed Rayquaza, a being millions of years old, who has controlled the skies for many eons." "And?" asked him the engineer. "Well… I mean, it's been around much longer, than humanity. Our actions has removed it out of play and, if data from ISF 9 and Hoenn locals is to be believed, there are two more players in there - Groudon and Kyogre. And with no Rayquaza to keep them in check…" "We may have to," said the pilot. "I mean, even excluding the retro-missiles, we can use solid-core railgun ammunition for orbital bombardment!" "With crappy precision and power," replied the sensors operator. "Atmosphere won't be gentle to it." "Even so…" muttered the captain, then assumed a bit more relaxed position in the chair. "I hope they'll be able to figure something out, back on Earth…" --- "And here our babies are," muttered technician in the Imperial Gray Sea Starport, seeing recovered stages of the "Water Dragon" being towed towards drydock for repair and later reuse, with a few curious Alolan Flygon in Rainy forms flying/swimming around them, as "buzzers" on the ships were now disabled. "Seems like everything went perfectly." "Indeed," replied the engineer nearby. "Just like the previous time." "Which one of previous times exactly?" asked him technician. "The original delivery of landers, docking block and Power and Propulsion Module to the Space Lab 1 to make it into the ship for the Imperial Moon Mission? The missions to build Space Lab 2?" "All of them, starting with the test flights with recovery system installed." "I guess. Kinda shame, that the early missions for delivering satellite constellations had to be only partially reusable, with only engines saved…" "Agreed. Well, they've almost got the stages there, so, time to get to work!" --- As the morning came to the eastern parts of Soris, the Emperor, still stationed in Zemlino Space Center, prepared for something truly special. Dressed in a strict suit, more fitting for a spokesperson of the space agency, rather than royalty, he, nonetheless, appeared to be concentrated, confident and serious. Right now, he was about to give the most important speech in his life so far. When the time came, he entered the conference room and walked onto the scene, under the gaze of cameras. "My dear sorisians, good morning," started the Emperor, sounding far more serious, than ever before. "I want to tell you something… Back before the Shift, when I was a young boy, one of the court's elite engineers and entertainers has constructed the first ever liquid-fueled rocket, which worked on kerosene and hydrogen peroxide. Even then, rockets have already fascinated me, but solids didn't have quite the same impact as this one did. When I first heard the roar of the turbopump, installed on the test stand, when I saw the assembled rocket blast off… I knew, that nothing would be the same for me from this day hence." "Because of that, when I've become the Emperor, I chose to, instead of trying to conquer the rest of the world, set our sights a bit higher and start conquering skies and, later, space." "And look, where did that get us. Even back then, while the rest of the world had to rely on the Pokemon to attempt to traverse the skies, we did so via comfortable machines, more advanced than anything would be in millennia to come. Even now, our nuclear airships are unmatched." "When the rest of the world had to rely on Castform at most and signs normally for predicting weather, we've had meteorological satellites for that. When bulk lifting was unachievable for them, we've used our helicopters and airships for that. When they've had to risk their men and Pokemon to get high-altitude observations, we've had satellites for that." "A lot of our technological achievements can be traversed back to the space program and the applications program for it. Even the TVs you are watching my speech with have a lot of components, derived from the space program." "For many years, we were exploring space. I remember, how happy I was, when we've managed to put the first satellite into orbit. I remember my ecstasy, when I've managed to quietly replace pilot of the SP-04 "Black Bird" with myself for the first mission and has become the first human in space." "For years and years, we were putting more and more satellites into orbits. We've also put men there - first in small spaceships, then in the Proof-Of-Concept Stations, then in the Space Labs… And when Rayquaza, without any warning, has destroyed our satellites, along with Space Lab 2 and LRV-03 with 12 cosmonauts onboard… We've turned our shock and grief into first resentment, then hatred and then - innovation." "Nowadays, there's a huge nuclear pulse battleship, which, currently, is stationed in orbit of the Moon, serving as a deterrent to any aggressor, who may think of attacking the Empire. In addition to that, as researches in the Space Lab 2 and ISF 5 have shown, some normally-terminal diseases can be treated in the microgravity." "As you've seen, aerospace industry was a great part of why our Empire was so successful. Because of that, I want to announce the Integrated Program Plan - our ticket into future. By the end of this year, we will clean the orbits a bit, partially restore the satellite constellations and, once again, have an operational space station, bigger and more advanced, than Space Lab 2. By the end of the next year, the first dedicated orbital hospital will be opened. By the end of third year, the first industrial-grade orbital factories will go operational. By the end of fourth year, the satellite constellations will be completely restored and we will have the Moonbase. By the end of fifth year, we will perform an expedition to the Red Planet. By the end of sixth year, more orbital factories and hospitals will be brought into operation. By the end of first decade of IPP, the assembly of the space colony in the libration point L5 will begin. By the end of the second decade, the colony will be brought into operation. Of course, there might be slips… but all of it will be achieved." "The Earth is a cradle of mankind… but one cannot eternally stay in the cradle. We should remember, what have we already achieved, and go on towards the future. The achievements of yesterday are commendable, but it's the achievements of today, which are truly impactful. Stay strong, my fellow imperials, and together, we will conquer the space!" ---- William Steelman, the president of Unova, didn't feel well. In fact, the entirety of the last year, especially the months after the so-called "Shift", was a major clusterbomb of problems. Especially when those damn Sorisians launched their damned space warship and demonstrated how they can use it against planetary targets. Especially when they've demonstrated the feasibility of nuclear weapons - something, that he had supported defunding back during the war with Hoenn and Kanto, before his presidency. Especially when he has also supported defunding the space program, considering it a waste of tax money, which could've been spent on more PokeCenters, hospitals, shelters and so on. And now, after this damned speech of this damned Emperor of this damned Soris Empire, he had no idea, what to do. And Sorisians announcing and giving a TV report about recovering all parts of their gigantic "Water Dragon" rocket, including the heavy cargo spacecraft, for a bit of repair and reuse soon after, was making things even worse, given the current-day situation with launch vehicles in Unova. And, what was the truly worst about it all, is that a decent part of the reason for Unova ending up so behind Soris Empire was his own fault. Even when he was defunding UASA and allowed them to lease the Space Shuttles to the rest of the world (mostly Hoenn), he only did it to free up tax money and spend it on social programs, to help everyday Unovans… and then it turned out to be a doom to Unova in the long term, unless some miracle saves them. And even nuclear industry of Unova wasn't in the really good condition, when compared to the Soris Empire… though, at least, he has helped to progress the molten salt reactors, which worked on relatively cheap and abundant thorium… But what's use in all this, if Soris Empire continues the conquest of space and, surely, builds more space battleships and weapon platforms, until they can keep the entire world compliant to their terms, lest the orbital bombardment with nuclear weapons commence?! William opened a drawer of his table. In it, alongside some old-type Pokeballs, which he kept from his League days, original ebonite knobs included, there was a familial heritage - a revolver, made by his gunsmith grandfather, along with a speedloader from the same maker and a small box of ammo. While the firearms were never too widespread in Unova, as Pokemon were almost always just as good and far more versatile, they've still had their niches and customers. Steelman took the revolver in his hands, looked at it, reflecting on the engraved writing and overall beauty of the weapon, then placed it on the table. He grabbed the speedloader and started putting cartridges into it, while thinking of what he has done in his life. After he was done, he used the speedloader to reload the revolver in one swift motion, just like during his time with father on the shooting range. William took the revolver in his hands, opened his mouth and inserted the gun's barrel into it, until it was touching the palate. He cocked the hammer, closed his eyes… and put the gun back on the table. He was the reason Unova was inadequately prepared to deal with the Soris Empire now. "Easy way out" was nothing but a cowardice of the highest level. He will be the one, who atones and fixes those mistakes or, at least, does his best to. As Steelman was unloading the revolver and putting everything back in place, his mind was racing, combing the memory for the project UASA has previously shown to him, what they've promised and how much money will they need to be done. He had work to do. A lot of it. And, maybe - just maybe, - he'll succeed in this endeavour. Even if it will require cooperating with all other member states of the Pokemon Nation. --- Around Zemlino Space Center, as always, there was a lot of work. Just as the recovered "Hauler", moved on the crawler, was rolled into one hangar, from another, a vessel emerged. It was a spaceplane - a sleek, delta-winged one, with boxy engines underneath the fuselage bringing those of "Dreamwing" to mind… and some of them were pretty similar, also being hydrogen-fueled scramjets. Others, however, were not, for they were not scramjets, but nuclear turboramjets. Inside the cockpit, two test pilots were checking everything. As this spaceplane was powered by the nuclear reactor, they've had to be very careful. Even though reactor was built to withstand low supersonic impacts, wrecking such an advanced vessel was… undesirable. "Zemlino, this is Bluebird-1, all systems green, running on batteries. Towing truck at safe distance, requesting permission to start the reactor," said the commander, hovering his hand over one of the covered buttons. "Bluebird-1, this is Zemlino, permission to start the reactor granted. Take off when ready." After receiving those words, commander flicked the cover open and pressed the "START 1" button. Far behind two humans, several control rods were retracted, allowing the chain fission reaction to start and get into high gear soon, heating up the hydrogen coolant, while the turbine pumps were revving up to ensure normal circulation of coolant through the entire system, including the heat exchanger on the outside. As the temperature continued to rise, electric motors inside the turboramjet assembly kicked in, revving up the turbines to get the air going through the heat exchanger and start up the turboramjets proper. "So far, so good," muttered the second pilot, observing the data on the MFD. Right now, the thrust has reached sufficient level to allow pilots to begin taxi to the runway, preparing for the takeoff. As much as they've wanted the Bluebird-1 to go to space today, alas, it was not an option - their test program was limited to some supersonic and hypersonic flight to test the engine assembly, then a bit of maneuvering to test the structure. As the vessel took off from the runway and the landing gear retracted, commander looked to the side and saw a "Whitebird" spaceplane, a recently-built unmanned cousin of the "Dreamwing", getting launched to deploy a satellite of sort and later retrieve it. There were rumors, that this satellite was supposed to house some kind of weaponry… but, most likely, they were just rumors. Author's notes: MFD - Multi-Function Display. BLUEBIRD spaceplane is based on the real M(G)-19 "Gurkolyot". Alolan Flygons are based on that wonderful picture. Hopefully, this chapters will be one of the last, so focused on the worldbuilding. Anyway, by the chapter ten, I will do my best to make story enter the more Pokemon route.

Importing A Car From Japan to USA - What Documents Do You Need?
It is the fact that Japanese automobiles are amazing. not only are they highly durable but also very innovative. For that reason, JDM enthusiasts around the world try to import both new and used Japanese cars into their countries. And the USA is the one of those.
With a vehicle that is older than 25 years old, you can skip all the expensive import tests. Yes that is correct, if the vehicle you are about to import is 25 years old or more, drivers can take a shortcut and pass all the regulations of the USA with no problem. All you have to do is to have the following documents in hand when importing the car:
1. Bill of Lading (BL) from the shipping company.
This is a document issued by the shipping company. The bill of Lading (BL) not only has the car recipient and description but also makes sure the car is shipped out.
2. Invoice written in English
This is a payment request from the car company to the customers. Car owners must check this to make sure it is written in English.
3. Importer Security Filing (ISF) form.
With the US new rule, car owners must fill the “Imported Security Filing (ISF) form” prior to the car arrival by vessel to have the car imported.
4. Export certificate (one original and one translated)
This is a document that makes sure the car is being exported from Japan legally. The document also means that the car has been de-registered in Japan from its previous owner. Remember to bring 1 original form and one english version of the original export certificate, for your local use.
Nevertheless, there are two exceptions to the US rule.
First of all, California has stricter laws on emissions. Car owners need to get a certification in the state even when the car is released more than 25 years and legally imported into the US. Or else, car owners cannot drive that car on the California roads.
Second of all, while the federal law allows all cars which are older than 25 years old imported into the United States, there are rules of the state that need to be considered. Along with that, many states in the US require basic safety car components and features. Seatbelt is one of them.
Long story short, importing a car from Japan to the USA is a piece of cake. Drivers just need to find cars that are older than 25 years old, select the right ports and have the paperworks. Car owners can find even help from reliable online platforms such as Car From Japan or JDM Export if you have trouble with the process.
So what if you want a car that is newer than 25 years old? Is it alright to import to the US? The answer is yes. However, it must be subjected to the EPA regulations and federal DOT. And to be honest, it is a tough job to average guy, but here are the required documents in case you are interested:
DOT Form HS-7: Department of Transportation (DOT) form needed to be downloaded and filled all the required fields. In order to complete this form, car owners need to know all basic car information about vehicle model, vehicle make, date of entry and port of entry. Along with registered importer details, there are all you need to acknowledge in order to import a car from Japan to the USA.
EPA Form 3520-1: Just like DOT form, drivers can obtain the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) form online. The same with DOT form, car owners must know all the basic vehicle’s information: car status, car model, car use, and independent commercial importer (ICI)
CBP Form 7510: Apart from the other two, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) can only be obtained at a port. All the requirements to complete this form are: (1) A completed DOT form HS-7. (2) A completed EPA form 3520-1; (3) Manufacturer’s certification ( must state that the imported automobile fully follows to the standards set by DOT and EPA); (4) Proof of car ownership.</p>

WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE
Tumblr media
Grace Park is one of two psychologists on a ship bound for Eos, ostensibly to study whether the planet is fit for human colonization. But the space agency, ISF, buoyed by deteriorating conditions on Earth that force people into a life of conscription in exchange for a place on a colonized planet, maintains a tight control over the crew, which means that Park might not know their true mission. It’s unlikely that anyone will tell her what’s really going on either—her crewmates don’t trust her because of her close relationship with the ship’s androids and because they think she might be a spy for ISF. As the crew arrives at the planet to begin their explorations, they fall ill one by one, complaining of strange dreams and behaving erratically. Park wants to find out the truth, but how can she if only the androids are on her side? As Park’s paranoia increases and the androids grow stronger, it becomes increasingly clear that there’s more to the planet than anyone knows, including ISF. Nguyen's debut is claustrophobic and dark, full of twisting ship corridors and unreliable characters. While many of these elements have been seen before, Nguyen combines them in ways that raise questions about totalitarian systems, environmental destruction, and the nature of humanity.

John T Mainer 28840: Legion of Vega
Legion of Vega
I was on Vega brokering a deal to sell some of the garbage the Spirit of Bunny got on their last raid. Apparently fighting evil energy sucking stormclouds gives you crap for loot. Weathermen don't retire rich, I guess that was one of the reasons I became a pilot in the first place, I didn't want to do honest work, I wanted to shoot bad guys for beer money and shiny shiny loot. There was little danger of any of that on Vega. Vega is a desert world, one of the wind swept hell worlds of the Prince Of Iron's Meiji Shogunate. Settled by Islamist Fundamentalists, they got nuked back to the stone age by one of the early Emperors for an assassination attempt, and only rebuilt partially when the nuking clean up revealed some nasty heavy metals useful in biopic production were discovered, and crystal farming proved to be the one thing that Vega's high radiation atmosphere and almost total lack of surface water was good for.
Vega had been a bright spot for the Shogunate during the war against the Illyrian's, but had fallen into disfavor when the garrison sided with the Prince of Flowers in the late civil war, and the once proud 11th and 14th Legions of Vega were disbanded. The scum soldiers of the Legions of Vega had been an open joke, a dumping ground for criminals, stim addicts, discipline cases, burnouts, and political dissidents, yet when the Illyrians attacked the border, and world after world fell, the father of the current Emperor, the famous/infamous Teddy K, lead the 11th in their doomed stand, and the 14th in their epic war to take back not just Vega, but to drive into the Illyrian border worlds and gut the supply chain for the whole invasion. Since the civil war, they had been without anything but local corporate troops and Internal Security Force security troops. With the increase in pirate and Storm linked activity the governor of Vega, the vastly and cheerfully corrupt "Uncle Chandy" had been authorized to raise a defense force if he could equip it out of his own (cheerfully lined) pockets.
Thus, some of the elite of Mecha Galaxy were gathered on a world that made Arakis look like a vacation spa, that made Pirate Moon look law abiding, and made camels sick of sand. Uncle Chandy was a fat, happily decadent and corrupt man whose vast appetites were only exceeded by his intellect and a strange, almost inexplicable desire, to serve the Shogunate's best interests, whether they knew or approved or not. He was so openly shifty he had three boxes on his desk labeled clearly "Bribes" "Blackmail" "Payoffs", they were all full. One thing Uncle Chandy had oddly never once been accused of, is breaking a deal. Win or lose on a deal, he paid in good coin. Thus it was a few of us were gathered on Vega trying to offload some low level gear, crap crystal mecha, weapons you could possibly bother a rat with if he hadn't been eating well lately, and some decent gear we just couldn't afford to level up.
Uncle Chandy was a generous host, and plied us with all sorts of comforts when we were not negotiating, but when we were, he took a duelists delight in a close match and permitted no distractions, so negotiations were not swift. The first reports of storm disruption of the gates were drifting in to us through our own private networks. If we hadn't been busy trying to out outmaneuver each other, and treating each other as enemies, we might have compared notes and been able to get our asses out of there before it went sideways. We didn't. We each had a report of disruption of some of he gates, we each had reports of raiders hitting some adjacent worlds. If we would have compared notes, we could have summoned our own clans to deal with it before we got cut off. Uncle Chandy, well, he had all of it, and played us like the master gamesman he was.
I was sitting in the waiting room, a scantily clad hostess was plying me with some sort of candied fig while I waited to finalize the sale on a half dozen Cindron when Lewis Reed my Logistics Officer burst in.
"Boss, we got trouble. The gate network is down hard. Something has scrambled all the access routines and we have zero contact with base. From the bit that I got, all the teams are reporting the same. They can't get offworld, and we have over thirty percent of our personnel in all Clans isolated or trapped away from support. We also have word of Deneb and Misery falling. Unknown raiders, not pirates, way too big. Not a raid, they took Deneb's main city and shut down the spaceport and the gate complex both"
I just about choked on my fig. Deneb is a sector capital and well defended. Misery is another hell world, but its an ice ball. To be brutally honest, the only export of Misery is misery....and ice. The water to keep Vega alive came on the ice ships from Misery weekly. With the gates down, the fall of Misery meant we were trapped on Vega with no water, in the sure and certain knowledge that the world that should be enforcing order in this section of space just got conquered by "forces unknown". This was not good.
I swore under my breath. I had to see Uncle Chandy right away and see about trading our Cindron's for one of his ships to get offworld while we still could. I wished for the first time that I had brought the clan in a Warship not taken commercial transport through the gate system. I approached Uncle Chandy's door to see about interrupting his current meeting when I heard voices inside.
"Not on your life, no frigging way. Only a lunatic would agree to that, I don't care what you are paying! That is suicide!" I stopped, my hand about two inches from the call plate on the door. I swear I recognized that voice. The door opened and a hard bitten pilot with a angry scowl just about barreled into me.
It was Able Hunter. He took the cigar out of his mouth where it was being chewed more than smoked in his current rage and jabbed it in my direction. He turned back and shouted one more time at Uncle Chandy before pushing past me and leaving.
"Try that idiot. He is just stupid enough to volunteer to commit suicide for this sand covered crap-hole!"
Uncle Chandy was full of smiles and took my arm and lead me to a nice massage chair in front of his massive desk. Easing himself into his own larger version, two of his many semi-dressed assistants settled glasses of melon soda over ice in front of us. He kept up a constant and happy babble of nonesense and routine Japanese politeness to prevent me from getting to business until he could raise his glass to offer a toast.
"To the glory of the Emperor, the safety of his children, and our own mutual benefit. A drink, and some of the last ice of Misery unless someone of experience and standing undertakes the defense of this world. Sadly, there is no way off this world save the Kigamure, which is reserved to trasport the troops of the Legion of Vega for the defense of this world. Sadly, that is by order of the Prince of Iron, and your humble servant could never oppose the will of the Son of Heaven or his war prince." Uncle Chandy's smile was a mix of the beneficence of Buddha, and cold hunger of the great white shark.
I took a sip of my drink, and considered his words.
"If we don't get off this world, you will run out of water faster" I attempted
He spread his hands, and replied "A hundred or two foreigners more or less won't make a difference when two million of my problem children run out of water, yet with a strong military expedition to restore our water supply and to guarantee our defense until such time as the gates stabilizer, would not your people and my own both profit?"
I looked into his smiling face and sighed. I nodded. "Fine, I will lead your defense. What can you offer me?"
Uncle Chandy smiled and pushed across a box. I opened it and found a memory crystal, code locked to an individuals DNA and brainwave patterns, and the insignia of a Tai-Sa, along with eight matching Legion of Vega pins. Uncle Chandy was beaming and his voice boomed happily.
"I offer you command of the glorious Legion of Vega, and all its resources for the defense and strategic security of this world and its trade. This includes the Kigamure warship as well as all the mecha and support resources you can raise as volunteers. Yours will be the war against Chaos for the glory of Vega, and the enrichment of your troops. I guarentee that each will receive a mecha commensurate to their own glorious contribution, paid for from my own, considerable pockets" Uncle Chandy's voice dripped happy avarice at the end that made my mercenary soul perk up a bit. The fact was, generosity aside, eight mecha is a crappy basis for defense of a world.
I countered "I want command of the ISF batallion. Sure they are green troops, and used to only dealing with civil disobedience and labour disputes, but a batallion is a batallion. I want command of them as well. They can be meat shields if nothing else" I demanded.
Uncle Chandy's face expressed sorrow like a baby basset hound, and he let his implant depolarize his huge office window. Outside the demonstration of Sal-Eh-Dim was in full force. Marches and even mecha carrying or draped with banners "Boycott Chaos" pressed against the line of ISF troopers and mecha out front of the Vegan capital building.
"It is regrettable that I must retain the ISF batallion to keep order here at home, thanks to the peace activists demand we boycott the Chaos war, even if that means failing to restore the Ice supply from Misery, and everyone on this beautiful world dying" Uncle Chandy showed absolute innocence and an odd belief that this waterless pustule of corruption was indeed a paradise worthy of the blood of a legion, but he wasn't wrong. If we let things stand, this world died. He was going to see us paid, and paid well. In the end, if you are a mercenary mecha jock, you chose this profession because you wanted to kick ass, take names, and yes by the gods, be a hero every once in a while.
I pinned on the insignia, slotted the memory crystal into the reader on my belt and felt it synch with my implants. I activated the Legion command circuit and the call for volunteers went out. By the time I got Lewis from the front office and had him book transport for our mecha to the Legion barracks, so long empty and probably looted dry, I was deeply depressed. No eight random mecha platoons can defend a world. I opened the bay doors and walked in. There was chaos underway as swearing pilots and technicians in a mismatch of coverals and even bad Hawaiian shirts struggled to slot a bewildering array of mecha into empty cradles and other deeply suspicious pilots started undogging the unmarked crates Uncle Chandy sent over that seemed to be brimming with Meiji Shogunate munition marks that I strongly suspect the Shogunate does not know are no longer on its shelves.
I pinged the officers from my implant, wondering who I had, and hoping I wasn't looking at a half dozen third level pilots with nothing heavier than a Warhorse when my implant accepted the response from the Legions officers. I gave a low whistle.
Ben Rail, Terry Cole, Lewis Reed, Stroker Spot, Mike Ehmann, Able Hunter, Myeponym, and me. Son of sand rat, maybe we could defend this world. If I had to take eight platoons and bet the life of a planet that I could take Misery, at least long enough to get the ice ships flowing back to Vega, this would be it.
The rat banner of the Legion of Vega flies again. A dumping ground for the disgraced, despised, and the disposable, they had turned the tide of war before, so perhaps we could do so again. We are the Legion of Vega. We are coming for you.

5 reasons why supply chain security must be on your agenda
Presented by Intel
How do you know that the critical parts inside your servers and devices are not poor quality, ready to fail at a crucial moment? Or, worse, hide malware with nefarious intentions like key-stroke logging, data theft, or sabotage?
Outside of leading-edge advances like Intel® Transparent Supply Chain  protecting globally linked sellers, buyers, and partners from these kind of threats is difficult. Leaders like GE are embracing new risk management approaches that provide component level traceability and authentication.
Yet many enterprises and vendors remain poorly prepared to prevent or detect growing supply chain cyber-risks. They cannot easily spot compromised parts or breaches that expose their organizations and partners to data loss and widespread disruption.
From not good to worse
Two years ago, Steve Durbin, Managing Director of the Information Security Forum (ISF), warned: “When I look for key areas where information security may be lacking, one place I always come back to is the supply chain.” A widely cited study found 16% of companies purchased counterfeit IT equipment.
Since then, things have gotten worse. A recent global survey of 1,300 companies found 90% were “unprepared” for supply chain cyber-attacks
False alarm or wake-up call?
So it’s no surprise that widespread anxiety followed a sensational report in late 2018 claiming China had hidden tiny spy chips on servers shipped to major companies.
The allegations were quickly denied and eventually debunked. But the incident raised troubling questions: “A lot of people asked: ‘What if that could happen?’” says Charlie Stark, an Intel Supply Chain specialist and engineer.
It’s a critical concern, and not just for industry manufacturers and procurement pros. Supply chains are lifelines for tech sellers and buyers alike. Over the last few years, they’ve increasingly become a battlefield, under incessant attack by nations and criminals. A small but tellingly grim sign of popularity: Presentations on hacking supply chains at Black Hat and Defcon.
Whether you are a technology buyer, seller, manufacturer, investor, or security professional, here are five reasons why supply chain cybersecurity belongs on your radar and action list.
1. Supply chain hacks are growing
Experts says threats are both skyrocketing and under-reported. They now make up as much as 50% of all cyberattacks, according to industry estimates, spiking 78% last year-over-year. As many as two-thirds of companies have experienced an incident. Average cost: $1.1 million. A 2018 study by the Ponemon Institute found 56% of organizations suffered a breach caused by one of their vendors. Federal watchdogs report widespread counterfeiting of ICs and other electronic parts in the DoD supply chain.
Several forces are feeding this troubling growth. Cloudification of supply chains, IoT, globalization, and shifts to vast, interlinked digital ecosystems are major factors. Geopolitics is another. Organized crime also is eager to exploit weak supply chain links. “Hack once-exploit many” is a lucrative business model, with low cost and high ROI, according to researcher Cybereason.
2. Everybody is seeking solutions
Predictably, public and private sector voices are raising alarms. Recent reports by Accenture and BSI, for example, identify supply chain cybersecurity as a top challenge. A leading public-private coalition recently called for rapid and rigorous cooperation on the issue. The most influential of these partnerships, the ICT Supply Chain Risk Management Task Force, includes more than 50 government bodies and businesses, led by the Department of Homeland Security.
The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) issued new guidelines for supply chain risk management. So great is the concern that the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has proclaimed a “National Supply Chain Integrity Month.” A major agency task force report issued in September outlined key threat scenarios, recommendations, and baselines.
3. Hack once, hurt many
Supply chain attacks are actually two kinds of threats. The first seeks to disrupt or cripple actual supply chains. Think of nation-state assaults on key infrastructure or energy systems.
But others use supply chains as a channel to attack dozens, hundreds, or potentially thousands of connected partners. By finding and exploiting weak links, attackers can hop between linked entities, stealing data, and spying or destroying as they go. This is what makes the attacks so dangerous — and attractive for hackers.
4. Hardware is a new target
Kingslayer, CloudHopper, CCleaner, ShadowPad, ShadowHammer, Black Ghost Knifefish, Heriplor. All these recent attacks on supply chains used or targeted software. Now, hackers have upped the ante. Thwarted by better software protection, they’re targeting hardware. Such nefarious burrowing into the hardware stack — down to firmware and BIOS and UEFI — is a big threat in any environment. But it is magnified many-fold in a supply chain.
5. Damage can be widespread
Harm from supply chain breaches is insidious. It sows doubt about product reliability and security. As the figure below shows, there’s a spectrum of potential harm in manufacturing, with supply chain attacks at the apex.
Source: Intel
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency warns of supply risks at every stage: Design, development and production, distribution, acquisition and deployment, maintenance, and disposal.
Similarly, breaches cause a range of organizational harm, including damaged reputations, non-compliance, and lost business.
Source: Deloitte
Tech and electronics are favorite targets, as are defense, financial services, and energy, but no industry is immune. The  2019 Global Threat Report found more than half of cyberattacks now leverage what it calls “island hopping.” That means attackers aren’t targeting just one organization. “Attackers… don’t just want to rob you and those along your supply chain,” authors warned. “[They] want to ‘own’ your entire system.”
Source: Global Threat Report
The importance of ecosystem protections
All these factors combine into a grim reality: Supply chain threats are bad — and likely to worsen.
There’s widespread agreement: organizations must be proactive in developing information-driven cyber-defense of supply chains. But what’s the most effective approach? For many buyers and sellers, it’s participation in a certified eco-system.
“Companies should consider defining reasonable levels of security and associated controls requiring sub-contractors, vendors, and critical supply chain partners to meet or exceed those standards as part of established business agreements,” advises Chadd Carr, director of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) National Cyber Threat Research Center.
Accenture makes similar recommendations: ”Organizations should routinely seek full awareness of their threat profiles and points of supply chain vulnerability. [They should] try to improve processes that guard against the cybersecurity risks inherent in the landscape of modern global business operations by integrating cyberthreat intelligence into M&As and other strategically important actions, incorporating vendor and factory testing into their processes, and implementing industry-focused regulations and risk assessment standards.”

For someone like Nalu living in Kauai HI, throwing good aftermarket/replacement parts at your ride is a bit more challenging than most of us have to experience. Remote access + a low population + a high cost of living requires creativity & finesse. Yeah – there’s definitely a lot of siiiiiiick Tacomas roaming the Hawaiian Islands, and lifted small-body trucks are 100% a lifestyle out there. But getting parts shipped around inter-island is kind of a pain in the ass, plus it’s another added expense. So if you want to build something truly hauss out there, you HAVE to get that much more passionate about it. At the same time, you’ve gotta learn to stay patient, flexible, and open-minded. And – it helps to have some trained mechanical/fab/paint skills. Well between Nalu & his brother Golden, they’ got the skillsets covered… they literally have their college degrees in this stuff. And it doesn’t hurt that back in the 80’s, Toyota was building trucks that could outlast the end of days lol.
High mileage ain’t the killer in Hawaii, but the elements are. That salt-air wears on ‘em hard. But Toyota struck on something so right with these 80’s/90’s pickups. Simplicity + durability… that’s the formula. These trucks can handle anything you throw at ‘em. Plus – they were built so practically, that anyone with basic tools and a fridge full of Heine could learn the entire machine in a weekend. Seeing these island-built trucks re-calibrates us to the fact that: If you slow your pace-of-life down just a little damn bit, you really don’t need all the modern beef that a new truck boasts… to get through the mud & sand in life. You don’t need it. There is comfort in simplicity.
Ok so let’s get to the build…
In 1984, Toyota Pickups were carbureted with a straight axles front & rear. In ’85, they went to fuel injection (still straight axle). And for ’86-on, they made the switch to independent front suspension. And while Independent Front Suspension (IFS) makes for better handling at higher speeds on paved roads… it’s not as capable or flexy off-road. So 1984 & 1985 are kind of the sought-after years to have if you can find one. And a lot of people with later models will just swap to a solid front axle if they get serious.
Nalu’s truck is an ’85, but it’s got the 81-84 Toyota 22R carbureted engine with an earlier 20R head for higher compression (since it’s got a smaller chamber) & hot cam.
Nalu’s got Trail Creeper dual transfer cases with 2.28/4.70 reduction. So sick! The two transfer cases give you a ton of low range for churning, climbing, & crawling. Basically – you get a 2wd-hi, 2wd-lo, 4wd-hi, 4wd-lo, and 4wd-lo-lo. We were rolling 5th gear at 6mph! Plus in the cab, you’ve got 3 shifters!
The FRONT axle has been rebuilt & trussed. And the REAR axle is from a later model 89-94 V6 Taco/4Runner. (Note: people will often call the 86-on trucks “IFS trucks” simply because they had Independent Front Suspension. But that can get a little confusing… because you might hear someone say “they put an IFS axle on the rear of their 85”. You’re scratching your head, thinking they put independent front suspension on the BACK of the truck?!?? But it has nothing to do with the actual “independent front suspension”. What it means is: The ISF trucks had a WIDER rear end, so they took that wider rear end, and put it on their older-body truck. Now you’re even more confused huh?)
Nalu upgraded front hubs from a later-model IFS truck, which allowed him to run the later-model, larger brake system.
For the FRONT suspension Nalu did the 3-pack ‘Rears Up Front’ leaf springs from an 89-94 pickup. Which is pretty much just as it sounds… where you take the leaf springs out of the rear of an 89-94 (IFS)… and stick them in the front of your ’85. Nalu mixed those OEM leafs with some All-Pro leafs, for a 7-pack total. In the REAR, he’s using Trail Gear 5in leafs, with the 3rd-to-bottom leaf pulled out. On top of that, he’s got a 2-inch body lift with a custom-made steering shaft extension… and a u-bolt flip-kit all around for that extra ground clearance (and to keep the u-bolt threads away from rocks).
Nalu & Golden triangle’d the positioning of the rear shocks… so that they move inline with the rear axle as it flares over obstacles. And they made the front & rear bumpers. Pretty neat!
The truck has happily taken everything Nalu’s thrown at it – just as Toyota intended. It’s been laid on its side, drug through the mud, wrung-out in the Pacific… and pulled many-a rental Jeeps outta Polihale. It also gets him to work everyday… 40 minutes each way… ironically at Nissan. 40 minutes on Kauai is a big-ass commute! But I guess not toooo crazy now… they’re only rolling about 35mph.
Nalu’s Pickup made its way into the family through his brother, Golden, who had been living in Idaho. When Golden came back home, he brought the Pickup with him. Shortly after, Nalu and Golden traded trucks. With a Pro Comp lift, body work, and primer already on the truck, Nalu wanted to throw more mods at it… but had to do so through a number of unorthodox ways. Using other manufacturer’s parts, like Chevy, replacing front suspension parts with rear suspension parts, or fabricating pieces in house, like the custom tube front stinger… these are all solutions and adaptations to the world Nalu lives in. He works with what’s he’s got. As far as he may be, I feel we we can all relate to that in some way.
Just like Toyota intended it, the ‘85 Toyota has taken everything Nalu’s thrown at it, and more. Nalu casually mentioned the time he flipped it on its side, trained it through a mud pit, and effortlessly crawls over rocks that would crush your daily beater. As you’re reading this, it’s still his daily that takes him to and from work 40 minutes each way. Nalu’s kept it alive for another 6 years and 350,000 miles… and counting. If you askl me, that’s about as Toyota as it gets.
